Lee Beom-soo and Lee Min-jung for Salaryman?

Some say it’s a done deal; others say they’re still deciding. Either way, new SBS drama The History of the Salaryman has got some big names attached from the get-go. Salaryman is the new drama from the Giant team: PD Yoo In-shik and writers Jang Young-chul and Jung Kyung-soon. It looks likely that Lee Beom-soo will play the titular salaryman (he’s been attached to the project for some time), while Lee Min-jung has recently sprung up as a possible leading lady. That production staff, along with Giant‘s leading man Lee Beom-soo? You’re basically looking at a Giant II: The Reckoning. It’s no wonder they’re calling this the “dream team” drama.

Giant was last year’s mega-epic, that went from 20% ratings to the very elusive 40% finale, that swept up all the awards at the end of the year. Salaryman is thankfully shorter than the 50-episode epic, with a planned 20-episode run. It depicts the trial and tribulations of the average salaryman, from humble beginnings to success. It sounds like the more realistic version of Giant, made for the everyman.

The drama plans to portray the salaryman’s loneliness and isolation, struggles, sorrows, hopes and successes in a realistic light. It’s described as a story that will have a cathartic effect on its audience. I see what they’re going for, and why. It’s the rare k-drama that actually attempts to stir emotion in the most mundane, direct-identification way, instead of going for high drama, crazy plot twisty stuff, as is the norm. The average salaryman’s struggles certainly ring true to more people than the plight of the chaebol, and we often feel more emotional pull from mundane true-to-life problems. Sometimes the quiet stories are the ones that really move you. And casting these two would be a hell of a start in the right direction.

Salaryman plans to premiere in November on SBS, following Thousand Day Promise.

They are both good individually but I do not think they match that well somehow. I hope LMJ does well in this drama,as Midas performance was lacklustre. LBS was great in Giant and will suit being a salaryman.

Its amazing how such a normal-sounding story can get me so intrigued. Its nice to break away from the typical kdrama plot and I love Min Jung. <3

It might sound ordinary, but this synopsis interests me more than any other I've heard for a while. It definitely appeals to me more than Me Too, Flower's wacky and schizophrenic premise. Like you said, girlfriday, sometimes it's the most realistic stuff that moves you the most. And with this team you can trust that's they'll do it right.

*AVERAGE*? I'm already really interested. Something that's not involving chaebol and makjang plots will be pretty amazing if it's done correctly. Crossing fingers this winds up a hit so average people in dramas becomes a trend. Better even if it's average man pitted against average man instead of chaebols for a lady's love.

If this is Lee Min Jung's drama in November, I wonder if Wonderful Radio won't push through? I was waiting for it : (

Wonderful Radio is a movie and I don't think a drama would affect the movie release.

Wonderful Radio is plan to release at December, and yup as pauper said before, this is a movie so it wont have any affect to the drama.

I'm surely intrigued.. It's a 20-hour-long story about a salaryman, which is potentially (and hopefully) without chaebols & geniuses.. I'm sooo curious, what would they use as the conflict??

I hope they finish the casting process soon so they can start filming.. I don't want another story written hastily or another actor admitted to the hospital bcuz of the hectic schedule..

The mother in law.Loosing his/her jobs.Office romance with their colleagues.Backstabbing colleagues.Promotions.Job opportunities in another city/country.

The possibilities are endless.Haven't we seen all of these in our own workplace?

Even her detractors (if she indeed has any) must admit that Lee Min Jung is one truly beautiful woman! Good luck to her and this production should it become a reality...

Looking forward to Lee Min Jun :). I didn't watch Giant, but it sounds like Lee Beom Soo is amazing.

Ohh... Yes, please, let this come into fruition!
I was wondering what this future Giant team collaboration would be titled and what genre it would cover and this just sounds absolutely magical.
'Giant II: The Reckoning' indeed. Let there be gangsters, fistfights in public toilets and pummeling ones enemies with pool balls.
I love Lee Beom-soo, his magic never quite translates to his photos, you have to see him on screen to believe it.

Oh yeah, minor corrections, 'twas a 60-episode series and ratings started at around 0.9% then after a steady rise its finale hit 40% -- pretty awesome, really.

Another Genuine only Lee Bum Soo can give. Sadly, he didn't win Deasang Award last year on SBS Drama Awards, anyways, if it's him, I'll join the bandwagon and watch this.
