Happy Pepero Day!!!!
I learn something new on DB every week!
Happy pepero day to you too
Pepero Day?
what’s that?
“Pepero Day is an observance in South Korea similar to Valentine’s Day. It is named after the Korean snack Pepero and held on November 11, since the date “11/11″ resembles four sticks of Pepero.[3][4] The holiday is observed mostly by young people and couples, who exchange Pepero sticks, other candies, and romantic gifts. ”
blurb from wikipedia. LOVE this.
Thanks for explanation Raine!
(sounds so commercial though…anyway the more celebrations the merrier!)
It’s not just for couples, by the way… teachers and students at my school gave each other Pepperos today. And yeah, it’s an extra-special day because it’s 11/11/11. (Pepperos are generally skinny pretzel sticks dipped in chocolate, although the stick can be something other than what we’d think of as exactly a pretzel.)
It’s amazing… some of the convenience stores have these huge displays set up outside, with Pepperos, but also with chocolates and flowers and all those things that, yeah, would be associated with Valentine’s Day in the US.
Haha! Pepero is a brand, so really, it’s totally commercial.
So, Valentine’s Day Feb 14 – women give men chocolate
White Day March 14 – men give women candies
Black Day April 14 – thos who didn’t receive any will eat black noodles
Pepero Day Nov 11 – exchange of Peperos.
Burp!
I’d like this kind of Pepero, though.
I can see why
.
Just cause something is commercial doesn’t mean it can’t be awesome…
like White Day is a BRILLIANT IDEA!!!!
Yet is completely commercial.
Actually, I don’t mind the commercial side as long as I receive chocolate.
Haha!
Bring on the food exchange!
Happy Pepero Day, Everyone!!! *HUGS to ALL*
iZzie,
That’s a good idea. Let’s have a DB OT potluck and everyone has to “bring” a food item, no duplicates!
Here is the start of the potluck spread, some delicious South Korean food!
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_gp6J06tVO3w/TLGxgiXolbI/AAAAAAAAAxI/XK0MFH3oSmg/s1600/Korean+Food+1.JPG
Hello MJP and all! I bring fried banana balls.
I swear! that’s a real dish and I absolutely love them.
“no duplicates”
LOL. Knowing DBers’ quirky sides, this rule scares me a bit.
LOL. MJP! I instantly felt hungry when I followed that link.
Gotta get me some food. BRB!
thanks for the note, i was wondering about that too.
I hope everyone had an awesome Pepero day! I wish someone had given me some.
In spirit!
hmmph!
how can you say happy pepero day without a link to you passing pocki sticks to us!
Sorry Unni…. I definately should have done that!!
So I post this in return!!
http://thejuliejuliagiselaproject.blogspot.com/2010/11/pepero-day.html
Disclaimer: It is not mine but it has the best Pepero pictures plus the history!!
Happy Pepero Day too!
Happy Pepero day!!
Does Pepero ever get old? Because I remember buying a pack back in like August and I have yet to open it. I think this would be the perfect opportunity.
Well, if you get sick you can lay in bed all day and watch dramas!!!! Go for it!
Now, THAT would be perfect! Thanks! haha
Coz nothing helps in recovery like a drama marathon.
amen
Seeing as I am ill at the moment I will totally follow this advice!!!!!
Wait… I already am… lol
Hey, me too. :0)
Happy Pepero Day to you! Wish I had remembered early enough to get some Pepero sticks to celebrate.
HAPPY PEPERO DAY to you, too, Leaf!
HAPPY PEPERO DAY to you all, dear OTers!!
This is the first time I have heard of this celebration. It’s cute and sweet. And it’s doubly so this year as the date is supposed to be very lucky – 11/11/11.
Is it too late to wish the OT a Happy Pepero Day? If I’d know I would have bought some pocki sticks from Mrs. Yee on the way home yesterday.
Hello everyone! Happy friday! Did anyone get a chance to see the T-ara “Cry Cry” video yet?
A must see if you’re a CSW or JCW fan. JCW is amazing as a seedy villain.
Not yet, but I’ve seen Brown Eyed Girls’ “Cleansing Cream” which is quite interesting. The song is fine too. I’ll check on “Cry cry”.
Wow, such a dramatic video! I like it
.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Ju79e8rM0c
I’m assuming there is going to be a continuation, does anyone know? It’s like a drama short set to music. Very good!
I’m pretty sure they said it was a two parts video.
So we will be able to watch the second part, hopefully soon.
I know absolutely nothing about T-ara(티아라), but I was intrigued by this! 감사합니다 for sharing!
::still drooling after taking over 100 screenshots of My Precious’s bad-assed-ness:: Sweetie, that’s one way of not getting constantly typecast as a ‘good guy.’ Did anyone notice the Baek Dong Soo-type scream JCW let out towards the end? Yeah, I’m still squeeeeeing. What of it?
The second part (premiering “Lovey Dovey”) is supposed to be released sometime over the weekend. I found it hilarious that LOENENT’s YouTube site crashed about 2 minutes after the MV was released, and they had to kill the feed for an hour in order to fix the problem. LOL!!
ok. I’m guessing it was hit video.
I was really really impressed by his villianeousness. I didn’t expect that from him.
Are there only 2 parts? I want more!
And now I want to see JCW as an anti-hero type character. But ofcourse he should get the girl and not die at the end.
BDS-scream. He does it soooo good doesn’t he?
Good thing the BDS-Scream wasn’t accompanied by its usual chin-wiggling leading into a full-blown BDS-Sobbing Attack. I let out a full-blown belly laugh when I saw the Wanted Flyer used a picture of JCW from his MBC “Hero” character shoot. Yeah, he looked real dangerous in that drama. NOT.
The T-ara Promotion Juggernaut ™ is in full swing now, with their releasing “The Making Of ‘Cry Cry’” video earlier this morning: http://youtu.be/c_a-_xA567U. That’s one thing I love and/or sometimes hate about Korean Idol Marketing — first, you tease the casting and concept in a few media outlets… then you start filming and release the teaser BTS photos (IMHO in this case, really had *nothing* to do with the actual finished project)… then you release a teaser MV of the soon-to-be-released real MV… then the actual MV is released… then a BTS video is released showing how hard everyone worked on the MV… lather, rinse, repeat ad infinitum.
Oh well. Should be interesting to see what Part Two brings, especially since it brings more of the Changwook-sshi goodness to our small screens!
I love Cry Cry and really enjoyed the video. I thought that the smarmy baddie looked familiar and didn’t realize it was JCW! I’m sad though that part 2 (where it looks like the Ji Yeon character is being played by Qri) is done to the Lovey Dovey song.
ooh, meee!
Besides the fact that I luff the song, I also luff the music video! It’s the classic Kpop formula.
The Weepies again?! I love you JB. My Friday has started out happily! I really love the Beatles vocals plus r&b harmonies. Count me a fan.
I’m on Episode 13 of Sang Doo and I had to stop watching ’cause I was all weepy. I’ll continue tonight. Seriously, Lee Kyung-hee. She punches in you in the just after Ji-hoon makes you laugh until your belly aches, so its a double belly ache. My favorite pairing is Sang-doo/Bo-ri. Every time they’re on screen together I rewind. Family dynamics at its BEST. Bravo. Still baffles me that it is Rain’s debut. WOW. I see that in Full House, but his character wasn’t nearly as meaty. But he did very well with what he was given.
*Sigh*
You reminded me that I need to continue downloading the episodes…
I had to get an upgraded to my internet service for faster down/uploads. I’m waiting for it to go into effect. They said three to five business days, so it should be good to go next week. Then I will be back to business with downloading Sang Doo.
Ya, I downloaded it thanks to JoAnne unni. She inspired me to watch and I have 1 more episode…O_o. I dunno if I can handle it…
I was going to post a thank you for another Weepies song too! Love them so much…
Raine…the last 4 or 5 episodes I would watch 15-20 minutes, then switch to check email or look at DB or play words with friends or something…too intense for me to watch just straight.
Unni – I did. It was so hard. I’m writing a list of things to talk to you about. But right now…
*****SANG DOO SPOILER************
OMG when he shaved her hair off….I had to stop it for the night. Ji-hoon seriously is an amazing actor. But when he’s with that little girl, it is EVEN BETTER…er worse…er bad for my tissue stash?
I’m still pissed about the dog. SERIUOSLY? You went there? And Se-ra…how does she get away with that crap she pulls? Taking over Eun-hwan’s room? Her clothes? How is she fit to be a mother?
Raine – she was also a little girl whose mother left her…and then immediately began raising another little girl. I felt really bad for her in those moments because you could see that it was the little girl hurt inside her – and she really didn’t keep it up long.
I feel badly for her now. But there are so many ways to handle things and seeing her next to Sang-doo just highlighted how badly she did. Not that he was perfect….
But in ep 14, my heart bled for her.
Happy Friday everyone!!! Hope you’re all enjoying better weather than we are in cold miserable England
NKB – come down to S. Florida. The weather is PERFECT this time of year. (Every other time is horrid, but right now…yessss)
So jealous!! Packing my bags mentally….
I spent a couple of months in Key West back in med school… loved it! (Even though it was early summer, and unbelievably hot and humid…). Loved the people, loved the culture, got my first, um, non-typical piercings and tattoo (no, not facial) there… amazing time
Key West is its own UNIVERSE. It has an island feel to it. All laid back, totally relaxed. I love going down there. It’s a day trip or a weekend trip if you time it right. I just walk down Duval or go to the pier or even drive up to Sugarloaf Key. Key Large (which is WAY closer to Miami) is awesome too. I actually always take guests down to the keys when they visit Florida. But now that zgznoona has intro’d me to some good food I might have to take them there too.
So you finally went to the restaurant, and I see you like it. Great!
I went there Friday night and had some BBQ
This is my favorite season in South Florida as well.
It is like a perfect spring, no humidity, no crazy heat, no rain, and we don’t need to use the AC.
Lucky youuuu this time africa is blazing hott
zgznoona- I drive everywhere windows down (and keep sunscreen in my car…) I think I was up by you just yesterday. Perhaps past you. I was in Palm Beach playing at the breakers. Where is that restaurant again? I’m going to be going back to play next week sometime up there and I’m going to take a friend.
STOKED.
tru t – Keep cool! S. Fl. loves guests. Come on over for a dip and a cool breeze!
You went way far north from me, since I live in Broward.
I see you love the restaurant. I also take everybody there.
You’re probably having a lot more music work now since is high season down here, no?
By the way, of you want to try the ice creams, like this one
http://simplynicky.tumblr.com/post/3931973189/papico-korean-chocolate-ice-cream-funny
you can go to the market across the street.
Disclaimer: the photo is not mine, I just looked for an example online
Oh, I’ll forever remember Broward from that Presidential race in 2000. What would the world be like today if things had been counted differently in your county?
Otherwise, yeah, I miss Key West, and hope to go back to the Keys someday…
zgznoona – totes gonna hit it up
zgznoona – I went to the Asian store down south today. I looked around and I think I can find the stuff to make some good Korean dishes! Today though, we’re going for Chinese. Rice noodles, ong choy (SHHH!), tofu.
Is there any other weather in england?
^sigh^ Can’t wait until I leave!
No really S-Florida is a great choice for a visit, enjoying the beautiful weather today in Orlando..
Keiiki55 – I’m going to GO THERE and say Orlando ISN’T S. Florida. (I’m a bit snobby, I know.) But I will also say that I LOVE Orlando weather. And its lovely up there. I have a friend up there so I stay at his parent’ house and have a blast. The town is nice…and then…there’s disney world…you’re never too old for disney world…
I know it’s Central Florida…but the weather was great theat day..even though I had to go to work…:))
Seriously, this is the point where talking about the weather is really not inane. When its gorgeous outside I HATE staying inside. I literally just want to run outside with my arms flung out…wait…I DO run outside with my arms flung out…
I’ll stand up to defend English weather. It actually doesn’t rain half as much as (by international reputation) people think it does.
Cold? England barely gets cold. Winters are just around freezing point, the European continent gets much colder (in the central European country, where my family lives, -5 to -10 C are normal winter temps, and we can hit -20C too. This doesn’t happen in England.)
Now what I will bemoan about England is that England is terrible with dealing with weather, particularly snow. Last year’s snow in London was… ridiculous. Two hours of snow and the whole city collapsed for several days. Now that only happens here.
Will get off my high horse now
Ha… your forgetting the Great British tradition of complaining about everything!!!
If you need lessons this is how you do it:
It rained all the time where I used to live (South-west, pre-Uni). Seriously during August we didn’t have a single 24 hours without some rain!!!!
It was awful!!!
I hate british weather as we don’t have proper seasons. We never have a period where it is really hot and anytime when it is really cold can be anytime within about a 4 month time period.
hate. hate. hate. hate.
There? That’s how you do. Actually I was far to nice there…
I agree with you on the seasons. I’ll also complain about England not being cold enough or hot enough. Summer? What summer?
And I like my snow in the winter. Like days and days of snow. I would rather be properly cold and than half-miserable, semi-cold without snow!
But in terms of rain, I have never found the UK all that bad. Neither in London now or when I used to live in Scotland. But I’m also the person who loves the Asian monsoon or the Central American “winter” (meaning every day from 2pm or onwards it’ll rain – for several months).
Hey, I spent a summer in London and thought it was fantastic! Hot and humid, sure, but no more than the US East Coast, which was where I was coming from at the time. I loved the place!
Now, the last time I was in England for a stay was in 2006, the year of the HEAT WAVE!!!!! I am used to heat and humidity but I was MISERABLE. There was no A/C anywhere (yes, I’m spoiled) and people were walking around with umbrellas and fans and I saw a few fainters. It was horrid. The weather was, that is. London (where I was at the time) was fab.
With snow, it depends where you are in the US. when I went to school in the South, they closed everything for snow. In Colorado, they only closed if a meteor was about to strike the town….In Miami, if it snowed, the earth would be readying itself to implode.
Today was our first day it snowed. It didn’t stick because the ground was too warm.
Its snowing/ raining right now. Giant clusters of flakes. Not sure if I happy or sad over this…
SO HAPPY OT Friday, everyone!!! And 111111!
Cold boring weather here in central Europe
. No November rain yet.
Yesterday it poured here in New England. Today is pretty breezy, and colder – but brilliantly sunny.
Happy 11-11-11 Day!
What will your super wish be today at 11:11?
Or do we get 2 super wishes?
Wow! I didn’t realize this. 11-11-11 11:11 in 1 hr 20 min for me.
On TV there was a national hysteria regarding 11.11 and “The end of the world”. They even announced it on the news, that “nothing happened”. Yep, I’m still here
. Third time this year…
ok. So i’ve got another hr and 11 till my end of the world
I don’t know why the end-of-the-world hysteria comes on unique numbered days.
I remember the new year eve celebration for the year 2000. People actually stocked up on water thinking that the world was going to end.
midnight was such an anti-climax. Even the firecrackers seemed to go out with just a fizz.
I wonder what having a lot of water does for you at the end of the world? Does it help put out the fires of hell that surround you? Hmmmmm….
There’s something so odd about stocking up for the end of the world. if everyone else dies, it’s not like you’ll have competitition for whatever stock is left on the grocery shelves.
Hey, Jomo, why do you think the fires of hell will surround you or any of the people here?
What have you, or the rest of us, done?
Hello Sethe-
While I am not one of those who stocked up on water for the end of the world, because that would be, um, stupid, I am concerned about the fiery flames of hell because of my latest
man-session: Yoo Seung-ho. He will soon be added to my
Bumper Crop:
http://lemmesee.shutterfly.com/pictures/27
Although I need to make it clear I am claiming him for my 16-year-old self, who still exists in many facets of my personality!
Couldn’t see your pic for some reason, Jomo (probly cause I’m an internet idiot), but all I have to say is that God wouldn’t have created beauty (in any form) if he didn’t want us (all) to appreciate it, right?
Hi Jomo!
Also, truth is that I’ve done plenty that could send me straight to the fiery flames of hell (no, nothing illegal or totally egregious… just personal/interpersonal things…), but I believe in forgiveness and mercy… (self-serving? perhaps…)
My wish? Blessings for everyone.
and more quality & fun kdramas.
and meet LMH/KB/JIW/GY/YAI/WB/CSW
and totally recover from cough
Happy Friday to you, Jomo.
I wish to meet any or all of them+SJk.
by CSW, I meant Cha Seung Won.
… in case Viola drops by (where are you, sister?) and mistakes it for Choi Si Won.
Would she not even allow us to ‘meet’ him?
I don’t how lenient she will be with you.
Look but not touch. No ogling either. But I don’t complain. It’s a sister thing.
Viola gave me the 5-meter distance to maintain from SiWon, coz I tend to overdo fangirling at times (which is really difficult to curb in the presence of exposed abs).
Kim Bum!!! ^faints^
How on earth am I meant to cope when I actually meet him? (WHICH I WILL)
I mean, it would be inconvient if I spent our whole relationship fainting….
I love your confidence, Leaf. When you meet Bummie tell him hi from me
ms. prindle is it this weekend? I don’t think it is, but you should say when it is so that it won’t be strange for you to come on ot and say it’s my birthday. I’m assuming it’s a friday like mine. It is a friday right?
Nay, Jumma Love. My b’day is this coming Monday. It hasn’t been a Friday in quite a while, lol.
We are talking about my birthday, right? Because this is a strange non-sequitor from having Leaf tell Bummie hello
Happy 11-11-11 Day!
My wish, to see Kim Jae Won shirtless post-military! But I don’t know if that will happen since he is having or had shoulder surgery, poor man.
Thanks Javabeans, for reminding me that we seriously missed out! JB Quote: “He takes a shower — and to think, that was to be Kim Jae-won’s post-army abs scene! Not that I’m complaining about Yoon Shi-yoon nekkidness, mind you — just mourning the loss of Kim Jae-won’s.”
http://www.dramabeans.com/2011/11/me-too-flower-episode-1/
There is a solution to this: apply as a personal aide/nurse to Kim Jae Won as he recovers. U know, coz taking a bath, let alone taking off/putting on clothes, would be very difficult with a shoulder injury. I’d be very happy to help.
I’d do it pro bono.
Oh and Happy Pepero day! Yay for Pocky!!
Hello everyone!
Here’s some eye-candy to celebrate the weekend:
Daniel Choi:

And that kid-looking guy everyone seems to like:
http://vehilien.wordpress.com/2011/01/19/song-joong-ki-elle/
I just found this blog yesterday. Enjoy!
wait you seriously don’t know who jaejoong and joongki are? wow sorry but this is a shock to me LOL O_O i thought EVERYONE knew who they were @_@
lol i’m still a novice
…I just assumed she was joking, hahaha
Oh Plume, you are a darling person! I don’t have time to drool now (I know, right?!) but I fully intend to become an incoherent puddle of goo before the weekend’s up.
Yes, that was definitely the cherry on my weekend dessert
Thanks for sharing!
Won Bin is looking amazing!
He is!
Plume, did you intend to glue crazy k-drama fans everywhere to their computer screens? How are we supposed to get anything done?
Now that you know who those two ‘guys’ are, we can forgive you your previous ignorance.
You know, it’s just for the week-end
Each day that passes by brings some new k-knowledge for me. And it feels so rewarding
.
Yep, I don’t feel ignorant any more!
Doesn’t it just? I’m learning about SKKS and Song Joong-ki now.
She wasn’t joking?
Well it takes time I suppose. But is strange she know enough to call Mr. Hand Towel by his preferred name here Hand Towel, and not Song Seung-heon
So, Plume is clearly joking
Only because Hand Towel was easier to remember than Seung Seung-Something
! I still have some problems with memorizing Asian names… I didn’t know the two other guys because I didn’t watch S(Something)-Scandal and Protect The Boss (yet). Wasn’t joking! (blushes).
lol
You just need to read more dramabeans, that’s all
The kid-looking guy can also be seen recently in the first episodes of TWDR and the movie Many a Little Romance
Plume – for a really good experience of Hero Jaejoong, watch Heaven’s Postman. I think you can see it on Drama Fever – it’s an actual movie, so it’s less than 2 hours. Beautifully, beautifully filmed, and such a lovely story.
Happy Freeday Everyone!
To all those watching The Musical, how did you like this past episode? I liked the fact that Jae Yi is FINALLY starting to show some personal growth. He was funny in a bohemian kind of way in the beginning, but his lack of investment in the musical beyond how fun it would be with Eun Bi was wearing on my nerves.
I love that he admitted out loud that he lacked sincerity. I don’t like that he’s going to try and fix everything on his own (just like Eun Bi did by leaving) without discussing with the whole team.
Yoo Jin was adorable this week, but as he becomes more aware of his feelings for Eun Bi, I hope he quickly shares that his heart is wavering with Ra Kyung. She has been refreshingly honest with him about her own insecurities and concerns in their relationship, and hope he will be the same.
Another refreshing element was Jessie unmasking herself. I knew there was a sharper and more cunning thought process happening under all that aegyo, but it was a great unveiling. She showed the stark reality of her selfish motivations without shame or pretense. It was a nice contrast to help unmask to Jae Yi his own lack of sincerity and honesty in his feelings about the musical.
I actually have become less and less excited by Jae Hee being in the OTP as the weeks go by. He was so cute at the beginning of the series, but now I just want to lock him in a closet somewhere so I don’t have to sit through more of his angsty talks and staring contests with Eun Bi. And the only reason why she gets to stay around is because she makes Yoo Jin smile, which is what is keeping me from breaking up with this drama.
I too like that Jessie is not just a stereotypical idol star, but the show should have made her presence more significant (in terms of time on screen) if they wanted to give her that kind of depth. The problem was that her character was thrown in with a whole mess of new plotlines, and I am getting whiplash – why can’t the writers just pick a plot and see it through before jumping into another? I wish I could have seen Jae Hee and the production try to work with Jessie before the whole thing fell apart.
I liked Musical at the beginning but it started to fall apart and I didn’t like the new plotline with Jessie either. It sort of takes away from the main characters. Just please, concentrate on one thing at a time. I’ve stopped watching the show……will go back and scam through it some other time…considering that there are better rom-com out the past week or so.
I agree about the jumping plotlines. Since it is a once weekly drama, it might have served better to set it up with 1-2 episode arcs in which they are overcoming issues during the production process.
But as it stands, there’s:
*a love hexagon (possibly a septagon if the preview is any indication)
*an imminent showdown between the two musicals
*a buttload of problems in producing the Gumiho musical
-money issues
-constantly losing femal leads
*chaebol family angst
It’s just too much, but I can’t turn away because I find Yoo Jin’s character growth so compelling. I have always loved shows that turn storytelling conventions on their head by doing things like making the villain more sympathetic or outright heroic characters.
This drama wasn’t originally planned as a once a week deal. You have to think it started filming last year and it has been sitting on a self for month looking for a place to air.
So for instance the story with Jessie started in ep 9 ended in ep 10 (one traditional week or airing)
My favorite character at the moment is also Yoo Jin,because when he is with Eun-bi he is able to be the person he has never allow himself to be. It is good to see someone so self-control and oppressed liberate himself from his own trap. I’m glad Jae-yi is digging himself deeper into trouble at this moment, since eventually it will help him grow. By the way, what successful adult allows his sister to control his finances? The again he might have no money if it weren’t because of that.
I have only a complain, with all the characters and different plotlines this drama needs more than 16 episodes to reach a successful conclusion.
There was a soccer game tonight on SBS, that most likely means no ep11 till next week.
I don’t care much for Yoo Jin but I feel bad for his long time gf.
I would like to see more romance between the two lead characters though.
Same here, the last episode was really good! I found too that Jae Yi’s breakdown, and Jessie’s disillusioned look at the entertainment industry were really interesting. (And Yoo Jin humming “I took off my chains” over and over eh eh). It’s so refreshing to see people with real personalities and not just (angelic/evil) caricatures as in so many dramas. Anyway, I like Daniel Choi more and more! And Goo Hye Sun’s disturbing laugh is less present so all is well ^^
The Musical is one of those dramas where all the characters are realistic and human, not flawless. I find you enjoy it more if you do not take everything as face value, and reflect more on what is being said.
I do miss the highly imaginative and funny sides of Eun Bi of the first few episodes. I wish they had continued with that. I still like EunBi character and her determination.
I think the story suffered from being shown only once a week, so for the viewers, it seems slow. On the whole it is well produced , with solid acting.
The ending I hope for is EunBi be successful on her own efforts and the 2 male leads have character growth and find themselves their own passion. It really doesn’t matter who EunBi end up with or not.
Does anyone (in US) watching Dancing with the Stars? I’m suffering from Tristan withdrawal
Yaaaaaaay Friday! Hope everyone has a great weekend!
First, I love Big Bang. I don’t give a rip about whether or not the EMA award means anything to the world at large – I was just SO HAPPY to see all 5 (Daesung smiling!!!!!) on the stage together. What made it even better was that I was actually watching them in “real time,” not on a recorded video. Okay, fangirl moment over.
Had to cut myself off from watching dramas for a while. Got a statistics project, a research paper, and a handful of minor essays to finish over the next 4 weeks, so I finally had to face the sad reality that successfully completing my degree is more important than watching dramas. *sobs* On the up-side, I’ve promised myself a marathon or two when I finish everything.
However, just ‘cause I’m not watching dramas doesn’t mean I’m not keeping up with drama news. Which brings me to this Soompi article: http://www.soompi.com/news/kim-soo-hyun-cast-for-a-new-drama-the-moon-embracing-the-sun I’m hoping to see something from Dramabeans about this soon, ‘cause my interest in this drama just shot sky-high. *crushes on Song Sam Dong Kim Soo Hyun* Also, Lee Min Ho is mentioned in the article as a cast member. Say what???? I need more info noooooowwwwww……
I saw that article about the moon-sun-hug too. I don’t think Lee Min Ho would be cast. Wouldn’t there be mass hysteria when his next project comes out? It must have been a typo or something.
Unless he’s a cameo or something
That’s what I was thinking, or that it was another actor with the same name or something. Ah well, even without Lee Min Ho I’m interested in the drama.
I forgot to add in my first post that I’m looking for Lee Min Ki recommendations. Has anyone watched I Really, Really Like You? Is it any good?
IRRLY is one of my sentimental favourites. It starts slow but it has a really nice story about growing up and family. It’s kind of a coming-of-age story for both leads and it has a funny and touching romance, too. Lee Min-ki is wonderful in it and he has great chemistry with Eugene (the female lead). It’s written by the writer of Who Are You? and Twinkle Twinkle, so it has reliably good dialogue, which is a must in my book. It’s a little long at 34 episodes, but totally worth it IMO. I hope you enjoy it.
Lol! Big Bang!!! *joins you in fangirling* Yeah they totally made my week
I almost dropped my computer because I was so excited (considering that I got it a month ago that would not have gone down well with my parents)! I love how TOP barely said anything but was just smiling somewhat creepily in the background. Lolol!! He was so excited that his inner nerd just popped out. Love him! And it was awesome seeing Daesung smiling. I can’t even imagine what he went through this year. I’m almost the same age as him I don’t know how I would have coped. I’m glad that he seems to be getting through it.
Am watching 19 in bits and pieces…gotta say, I’m starting to see what T.O.P. fever is all about.
Just read the article. I’m so looking forward to seeing Kim Soo Hyun on screen again. It’s been far too long for me to go without squealing at the screen each time he comes on. However I have an issue with them casting Han Ga In as his love interest. As pretty as she is and despite how much I like her…isn’t she too old to play opposite him? I mean despite her youthful looks it’s pretty obvious that she’s way older than him. Hmm…I just hope they don’t go down the path of Me too Flower! and give us that mother-son vibe…ugh *covers her eyes as if that will somehow get the image out of her mind*
I’m with you – I’m praying they’ll cast someone younger and better at acting. The casting is the reason I’m not watching MTF. What a waste.
TGIF ALL!
I like BigBang too!
I’m glad they won. Lots of BigBang fans around the world for sure!
Ok, I seem to remember JB writing SOMEWHERE about this Lee Min-ho being different than Shity Hunta LMHo(t). I’m trying to find said post….
I just finished episode 15 of Biscuit Teacher Star Candy last night. Almost finishe!. I have been really liking it. It’s fun how they structured student stories into individual episodes along side the over arching plot. Bo Ri is a great heroine with her huge heart.
So . . . the place I have some difficulty is the teacher/student boundaries. Yes, I know its just a drama. But I see this plot device much more in Asian plots (kdrama and j manga). In the US (where I am) this is a huge sexual harassment wall and in the view of protecting our children there is a definite “hands-off” message to teachers. The media stories of teachers consorting with students is seen as abhorrent.
So, what do you think? Is this a significant cultural difference? And these relationship are seen differently? I admit my only knowledge of Korean culture is through drama so I can’t tell what is normal. Or just a favorite drama trope of kdrama and I shouldn’t take it so seriously? I have to remind myself that kdrama IS fantasy
As a teacher myself, I enjoyed BTSC’s portrayal of how Bo Ri grew as a teacher. Like you, I also wondered about the student/teacher boundaries. It’s almost like Bo Ri was a surrogate parent to her students, even outside of normal school hours. I was like, where are the kid’s parents??
Also, and I’ve seen this in Jdramas as well, I’ve wondered if it’s standard practice for a teacher in Korea (or Japan) to make “home visits” for absent students. It makes me wonder just how much extra work, outside of actually teaching class and it’s associated responsibilities (grading, lesson plans, etc), teachers have. Cause Lord knows, my school day often didn’t end until 5 or 6 pm, even though school dismissed at 3. I can’t imagine having even more responsibilities added to that.
(Just to preffice: I’m particularly sensitive about this because sensitive because of real-life high school drama. A coach was accused of approaching current multiple students after they turned 18. At the time this was not illegal in the state I lived in.)
In the US it is more about the power dynamic. Even in the college setting it is sensitive because a professor has power in the relationship over a student even if they are closer in age.
Thinking about this more . . . this drama setting falls more into the category of “situational romance” like a work place. Still loving the drama itself.
Yeah, what about the whole Penn State/Paterno thing? Clearly a huge deal, and very controversial…
There is a huge difference between the U.S.A. and asian countries regarding sexual consent.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ages_of_consent_in_Asia
China – 14 yrs
Hong Kong – 16 yrs
Japan – 13 yrs (some areas restrict to 18 yrs)
South Korea – 13 yrs
Taiwan – 16 yrs
Yet, I find it extremely interesting that most of these countries don’t let people drive until 18 yrs of age. You can’t drive, but you can make babies!!!
Just have to comment on this… two of the classes I teach (in Korea) are 6th-graders, and we do a lot of current event/controversial topics in our speaking/debate class, and the most recent one we did was gay marriage… anyway, in the course of the discussion, it came out that none of the kids had any real idea of what “sex” involved… so if the age of consent is 13, it seems safe to say that a lot of these kids have no clear idea what they’re consenting to.
Yea, I realize that the student/teacher relationships in US dramas seem more “taboo” than in Asian dramas, where they’re more innocent. Maybe it’s because in kdramas/jdoramas the focus is more on respect and a pure love blossoming between the 2, so it’s more PG13, while in american shows it’s more, idk…sexual?
Honestly, I’m a fan of the teacher-student relationship trope, especially when done right. For now I’m loving Flower Boy Ramyun Shop, which is hilarious.
I’ve been wondering about this myself…in the US, even though he is 19, a relationship between Chi-Soo and the teacher would be absolutely forbidden and they really wouldn’t make this show and (especially) be joking about it. She would lose her job, and there might even be criminal penalties – not sure about that; he is ‘legal’ but because of her job, perhaps?
On Glee right now, Puck is attracted to a teacher, and they even kiss – but I think they will handle that in a way that demonstrates she recognizes it’s wrong, and why he feels that way really (she adopted his baby)
I’m a teacher and my first reaction to this was, “Oh man, this kid is going to get her fired! Never be alone in a room with him dummy!” He’s 19, so there wouldn’t be criminal penalties (plus that’s more like university age), because he’s a legal adult, but she would lose her job and most likely her certification. No one would hire her to work in a school again. That’s a lot to sacrifice for a cute, but obnoxious, boy.
Oh wait, he’s Korean 19, American 18. Yeah, she’d totally be in trouble. Though, watching episode 3, he and his friends would be in trouble for sexually harassing a teacher.
I feel the same way too in seeing the teacher/student boundary get crossed in asian plots. It is definitely not one of my favorite tropes. Though in a rom-com context and in manga, I don’t mind as much because the comedic aspect of the rom-com tends to distract me enough.
However, for a more dramatic plot, I start thinking about the taboo-ness of it all, the psychological state that has led to the relationship, the psychological effects this relationship will have on them and on future relationships, the power dynamics, etc. Does she have daddy issues? Does he have mommy issues? Was the teacher trying to rectify his own miserable high school years?
I have noticed that I don’t mind teacher/student romance AT ALL in Asian drama. But if I see it in American drama I cringe and wait for the cops to come.
Brings up another thing I’ve noticed. office romances. Here (US) we frown upon it but in Asian shows, people actively try to cultivate them.
What is actually accepted in schools and offices and what is drama fantasy…?
Cha chi-soo could tempt any teacher with those lips….:D
Hi! Happy Friday! Haven’t commented here in a long time, since I’ve been studying for my a levels. I had my math paper today, and I’m pretty sure I’m going to fail it, which is really depressing since that limits my college options doesn’t it? D:
So I tried to de-stress by watching Korean dramas.. And yesterday’s episode (32 I think) of High Kick 3 was SO good! It had something to do with Jongsuk sitting for his university entrance exams and how his whole family was supportive of him and he felt guilty for not studying hard- I totally cried.
And I already commented on the recap of episode 10, but I’m seriously starting to crush on King Sejong from Tree With Deep Roots!! This is so weird… But I get excited everytime he appears on screen, and he’s so cute!! Does anyone else feel the same way? I know Chaeyoon and Soyi are probably the OTP, but I love Sejong and Soyi’s interactions, and how it’s so obvious that he values her opinions.
Ah I feel much better now.
Tree is charming me and all of the actors are just as they should be. I’m not complaining at all. My sister and I already have dibs on Lee Do and King Sejong so you can only crush in private! I don’t even care if there’s an otp I just want chae yoon to realized that oori Lee Do is a nice guy and stop wanting to kill him ( I’m only at episode 7)!
I don’t think too much about soyi and king sejong’s relationship because then I’ll want to know how they got so close and I get the feeling I won’t ever find out, but I love to see them interact.
I think Chaeyoon starts getting the sense that Sejong is different, and forms some kind of respect for him, but right now revenge is pretty much the only thing on his mind.
OMG you should totally watch episodes 10-12! Things really get amped up from there.
Oh man! I didn’t know Sejong was so popular, haha. But I guess sharing is caring?
I don’t totally understand the whole “A-levels,” “O-levels,” whatever… the bulk of my knowledge comes from two books I read a while ago about a kid named Adrian Mole, and then from the obvious equivalents in Harry Potter… but is it really the case that if you fail/don’t do well on (not sure which is more accurate) your A/O-levels, you’re screwed forever?
I ask cause in Korea, it seems to be pretty much the same thing… if you fail/don’t do well on what’s essentially the college entrance exam, you might as well buy yourself a motorcycle and prepare for a life as a food delivery person (and that assessment comes from the Korean-Americans at my school, not from me)… but in the US, if you don’t do well on the SAT, you can take it again, and you will obviously be penalized for repeating it, but it’s not fatal…
“…in Korea, it seems to be pretty much the same thing… if you fail/don’t do well on what’s essentially the college entrance exam, you might as well buy yourself a motorcycle and prepare for a life as a food delivery person”
SERIOUSLY? Wow no wonder there’s all this stress and fussing about nowadays. A levels is what we take to get into college, and since it’s really competitive now, one has to get at least 3As to get into a good course. :/ You can repeat A levels too, but you’d have to wait another year I think.
Well, that’s what I hear from everyone here in Seoul… if you don’t get into one of the top 3 universities… (Seoul National, Yonsei, and Korea University) you’re pretty much SOL… you could certainly go to a lower-level university, but there’s pretty much no point, as I hear it from everyone here… you’ll be wasting your time and money on an education that won’t be generally respected…
No joke, the Korean-American teachers (and Korean-Korean teachers) at my school joke all the time that students who aren’t so bright in class might as well just not waste their time coming to school and just learn how to drive a motorcycle so they can be a delivery person… it’s really cruel, but probably not completely inaccurate.
Oh, so that’s why apart from regular classes the students take tutorial sessions – everyday. (Not to mention high expectations & constant pushing by parents.)
Stressaurus!
Yes… the college entrance exam for the high school students happened here just a couple of days ago, and (as I heard from colleagues), they stop any plane traffic around and over the city that day, so as not to distract the students taking the exam, and the exam proctors are forbidden from making any noise at all (sniffling, coughing, sneezing, throat-clearing…)… they all take this exam REALLY seriously.
Well if you follow the British School system or study is a former British colony you would go through the O and A level testing system.
O-levels are month long exams you take at the end of your 4th year high school on your eight chosen subjects (it takes 4 years to prepare as the examiners can test you on anything you have learned in high school). If you fail this chances are you probably will not make it into your chosen discipline or university of choice. However, you could go to private universities, colleges or abroad.
A- levels are exams you take after your 5 and 6th year of high school especially if you are in the UK or planning to study abroad in the UK. You mainly take advanced math, bio, chem, phys.
By the way, check this out:
Actor Lee Min Ho recently appeared on a Chinese test paper and proved his high popularity.
An online community posted a scanned test paper, in which Lee appeared as a question. The test paper includes Lee’s picture and an English table.
The question is about Lee’s lifestyle. It says, “Describe Lee Min Ho’s lifestyle with 60 words referring to the table.” The table says, “Exercise everyday, Eat vegetables twice a day, Eat fruit four times a week, Drink milk once a day, Eat junk food once a week, Sleep about eight hours.”
http://en.korea.com/blog/enter/tv/lee-min-ho-appears-on-a-chinese-test-paper/
lol.
They put his picture on a test paper??? ok. Do they expect the girls to actually FINISH the paper?
Best way to lose concentration.
LOL, I wish my tests were that easy.
You just made my day!
Wow! Thanks for the detailed explanation. Sounds much more rigorous than anything we have in the US (which has its pros and cons, I suppose… and I certainly can’t say US students are distinguishing themselves in international rankings these days). I’ve gathered that it seems to be a trend in many countries to make students select a particular track (science or humanities, basically) fairly early in life, and that sort of determines their options in the future.
Truthfully, that sort of required selection (if I understand it correctly) might have been good for me… my problem has always been having too many options… I was an English major, then I went back to school to do the pre-med classes, then I went to med school, then I did cell biology research, and now I’m teaching English… maybe if I hadn’t had so many options, I could’ve just found one career and been happy with it.
Tracking is really frowned upon in American education. You can’t even use the word without getting parents up in arms. I think that’s VERY culturally American. The whole, “You’re not the boss of me!” thing. That can be challenging when you have parents in deep, DEEP denial of their child’s strengths and weaknesses.
Me: Timmy has difficulty in math.
Parent: Timmy is going to be a doctor someday.
Me: Well, Timmy is very confident. He always seems surprised when he fails the math tests, but he still fails.
Parent: Well, he’s surprised because he’s Timmy, the future doctor. No. You’ve got to figure out how to teach Timmy correctly. You can’t keep letting him fail math tests. He’s going to be a doctor someday.
This is the life of the American teacher.
I think the life of the American teacher must be incredibly difficult and frustrating.
I’m guessing you teach elementary school? In any case, I know teachers have to deal with not just parents, but so many emotionally disturbed kids, with their autistic-spectrum disorders, and their ADHD, and their IEPs… not to mention the ESL kids, who may not speak much English… plus the kids without parents, or whose parents are the problem, for various reasons…
I’ve considered trying to teach in the US when I come back from Korea, but I’m not sure I could deal with all that crap… I really admire teachers who can.
“I’m seriously starting to crush on King Sejong from Tree With Deep Roots!! This is so weird… ”
Knowing how YY fell of Grandpa in My Princess… that’s perfectly normal.
(peace, YY!)
Who’s the grandpa in my princess??
Lee Soon Jae
Mr. Hand Towel’s wealthy grandpa.
HAHAHA oh my goodness!
No wonder! Love him as the cranky-ass doctor, king, etc. Maybe I should fight YY for him *peers out to see if the coast is clear* on second thought I should leave him alone.
izzie and Shiku, I came to this post late and scrolled down the page hurriedly until I reached this post where my eyes chanced upon the word GRANDPA. Oh, how long it’s been since I saw him. Shiku, you have incredible taste in (old) men, I must say. Izzie, I’m all pepero-ishly benevolent today so I’m not taking any (violent) offence at all…..*hums a hymn*
Aha, so I am not the only one. I have fallen in love with King Sejong/Lee Do myself!
And King Sejong the Great, seeing the awesome reforms he made in Joseon, has become one of my historical figure idols.
The Hangeul Project was really, really, DAEBAK, don’t you think? And the way this project is being unfolded in TWDR is just so fascinating and compelling.
Am eagerly anticipating the moment when Chae Yoon realizes how good the king really is (and that Sejong was really the one who saved his life and is innocent of being the cause of his father’s death). Also looking forward to Chae Yoon and Soyi finding out their true respective identities.
Happy Friday everyone..Catching up on VP, so far so good. Next I have to finish Best Love… Hey do anyone have any drama’s they have watch on Netflix..?
I watched hero on netflix.
@ahjummabunny, was that on Streaming Netflix or Disk Netflix? I checked my queue, and it still states “unavailable” (as it has for several weeks now)…
Same thing happened with “City Hunter” — one minute, it’s available for streaming… and then three days later, it’s been pulled from both options! ARGH!!! WTF?!? THIS is how you lose subscribers, Netflix!!!
I watched it streaming. Someone else mentioned that a few dramas were gone before. I hope it had something to do with the fan subs they were charging for but not paying for.
I am thinking I started City Hunter on Netflix but finished on Hulu/DramaFever. I’ve watched episodes of BOF, Goong, Fugitive Plan B, Take Care of the Young Lady, Manny (ooh, yum) and really – tons of stuff, but I honestly can’t tell you whether it was Netflix or Hulu. I just remember it was on the tv, not on the computer.
I hook my computer up to the tv screen…:D
Raine-y…yah, I have to get that cable thing
The best thing I ever did. Seriously. I can hook it up and exercise on the treadmill while watching, or expose my entire household to K-drama
OOOOH – So I totally gave my mom a few K-drama songs from OSTs and she’s rockin’ them. And I taught her Ahnyong and kamsahamnida/kumawa!
Slowly but surely…
Is “Will it snow for Christmas” worth watching? I want to get in the winter/Christmas mood and I’d need some drama suggestions
.
I’ve already seen “Secret Garden” last year, it had a nice winter atmosphere (loved the glass house! and the moody night walks). I also started recently “Snow Queen”, which is lovely, I seem to be a Hyun Bin fan. So any other ideas would be welcome.
I liked will it snow for christmas. The first is really nice and angsty. the second half is a little wierd and draggy but still ok. It’s pure melodrama so expect tears with no laughs, but it’s one of my fav ones.
Go Soo is SOOOO Good in it.
Agree – before WISFC, I had seen handsome Go Soo, but didn’t give him much thought, but he broke my heart in this.
I have the song he sings over the phone on my daily ipod play list.
Wait! Did you say Gong Yoo?
What? I’m hallucinating?
*SIGH*
Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo… Gong Yoo…

Wow. If u look at this ^ long enough, you’ll see the image of Gong Yoo.
*pours more soju into glass*
Go Sooooooooooooooooooooo
I stared at this for 10 minutes straight and izzie’s right….I saw Gong Yoo. He was leering and making bedroom eyes at me.
I saw Gong Yoo too….
MJP’s Daily Vitamins
Why didn’t it work for me? I so need training on how to do what Jomo can do!

“Is “Will it snow for Christmas” worth watching?”
Yes it is!
My Girl is set in the winter. You have probably already watched it but I promise it doesn’t get any less amazing the second time around (or the third.)
I don’t think there’s a christmas episode in wisfc but it does snow and that episode with the snow is one of my favorites but the path to it is very path-like.
It will depend in how much do you enjoy the angs and the suffering.
The beginning was ok for me, but the second part was way to crazy for my taste. I finished it, but that was when I started watching dramas, and didn’t dare to leave one unfinished.
But if you enjoy the melo go for it.
If you want check the recaps here in dramabeans first, it might help
The WISFC early episodes were great. Both the male & female lead (kids) were wonderful.
When the story moved on to the “adult” part – it wasn’t so great… not sure if it was because of the noble idiot thing.
Oh I just remembered, I think “The Woman Who Still Wants to Marry” is set in the winter too.
Saw that one, loved it
.
Which reminds me to go on Kim Beom marathon before Padam Padam comes out.
I’m spoiled by the new look bumi has been sporting. The hair out of his face is a very good look for him.
OMFG….. that is the greatest idea ever!!!!!
^sigh^ Damn Uni…. making me miss out on that….
But hey, nothing’s gonna stop me watching Padam Padam when it comes out!!!!
I’m also very much looking forward to Padam Padam!
Kim Bum is looking so damn fine! Can’t wait for Dec 5
I think I’m legally obligated to promote The Woman Who Still Wants to Marry. It’s so fantastic. And it does start in the beginning of winter and, appropriately, ends in Spring/Early Summer as the main characters “blossom” into the good parts of their life. Everyone except Boo Ki, who’s already fabulous but is more than willing to help her friends get there, too
::gets off soapbox::
It’s so on my list cmrprindle. I’m downloading it RIGHT NOW actually. Oh happy day!
Yes yes yes to Will it Snow at Christmas! But it’s not really about Christmas, and a lot of it isn’t even in winter, so it might not do the trick for you.
I just realized you are looking for winter/Christmas themed dramas. After going down memory lane, I found some of the ones I watched:
White Christmas (if you like a psychological thriller) only 8 ep
The Woman Who Still Wants to Marry, I just love it
Sign a forensic/investigative drama. I like it
My Girl, how coll it is that every time it snow is her birthday.
Mary Stayed Out All Night, not that I recommend it, but it was filmed during Christmas
Dream High, I felt cold everytime I saw those poor actors and particularly the actresses with those mini skirts and steam coming out of their mouths when they were suppose to be indoors.
Heard about White Christmas, but though I’m not currently in a thriller mood I might give it a try.
MSOAN, I don’t think I’ll try that one. Kind of disappointed with JKS lately.
Dream High yes please!
White Chirstmas is great! it takes about two episode to really settle in but then it really gets going!!!!!
How about “Winter Sonata”?
It’s all so totally sad and mopey and CJW does a huge amount of left-eyed tear dripping while BYJ concentrates on holding his coiffed, frosted hair perfectly still so as not to disturb the magnificence of it all ……. but at least there’s LOTS of snow!!
Mary Stayed Out All Night, not that I recommend it, but it was filmed during Christmas
lol, zgznoona. all the reviews/recaps of MSOAN have always made me reluctant to try this one.
cmrprindle,
MSOAN was quite a crazy and disappointing ride. but Plume just asked for Christmas/Winter dramas, and I remember that about a year ago I was reading recaps here and watching the episodes while pulling my hairs.
Why is it that the worse dramas are the ones that become more addictive if watch while airing?
It’s a mystery
Maybe it’s like watching a car crash? It’s horrible, but you can’t tear your eyes away because either you’re have to see how it’s going to end, or you keep holding out hope that it’s going to get better (even though you know that’s not possible).
cmrprindle,
It was one of my first k-dramas. I watched it for JGS ’cause he was the first K-actor whose name I knew. I just skipped over all the screaming parents parts. The first time around. Skip to the cute. And daydream about what could’ve been…
But since it was one of my first dramas, it has a spot in my heart…
Some things are like that. In our house we call them our Favorite Two Star/B-Movies.
Yes, MSOAN is definitely one of those for me. It also has a good sound track…I don’t particularly like My Precious, but the other music is fun/good/funny.
Actually I didn’t!
I only have aprox. 1 year in dramaland so still lots of new things to discover. Thanks for suggestion!
I’m not sure if you’re into romantic comedies but if that’s your thing, you’ll love it! It’s absolutely hilarious. Plus it has pre-army Lee Dong-wook as the lead.
Yoo AH-in’s movie “Punch” breaks 3 million admissions. I wanna watch it so bad. Anyone got a chance to watch it yet?
Happy Friday and Pepero Day!!
Is it okay if I eat Pocky instead? It’s not blasphemy or anything lol. It’s all I have at home.
So I know i’m fifty years late on the Jdrama bus but i’m watching Pride and it has to be the best, if not one of the best Jdrama’s i’ve seen. It’s just lovely, not over the top, just…perfect. That’s a lot coming from me seeing as i’m as indecisive as they come.
Even the theme song doesn’t bother me. “I was born tooo love you….”
I can’t wait till this evening, I get to mini marathon on episodes 11 and 12 of a Tree with Deep Roots. That show is like chocolate for me…. you just want to savor it.
Pride is one of my fav jdrama’s too. I absolutely LOVED Kimutaku as Haru. So cool! And they sizzled on screen. Loved the drama.
What’s Pride about? Do share. I don’t have nearly enough jdramas in my queue
I have it stocked in my computer but didn’t get to watch it yet. It’s some drama about hockey I think. I love hockey. I’m watching it this winter. Along with other 20 drams I plan to watch by the end of the year
.
Haru (kimutaku) is an ice hockey player who is also a bit of a playboy. Aki works for the same hockey team as an office lady. She’s been waitying for her boyfriend for 2 years so Haru suggests that they pretend to be BF-GF till he returns. That way she’ll have company to go to the movies and he won’t be disturbed by the many girls running after him. And complications ensue.
The plot is very simple but it’s so cute and kimutaku is so adorable as the playboy. You really should watch it. plus its only like 10 episodes.
Aww, that sounds adorable! Thanks for the synopsis aoiaheen. I’ll add it to my ever-growing queue
Didn’t we have the Purido discussion a few weeks ago? That’s okay! Never get tired of it! Or…Kimutaku…*drool*
It’s deals with adult issues, doesn’t get too into histrionics and works in one of the drama tropes that JB and GF hate quite well. Don’t want to mention the trope for fear of spoiling.
That and Takeuchi Yuko is fabulous. I loved her in Natsu no Koi wa Nijiiro ni Kagayaku (ya, I had to go look that up…)
TGIF!
And thank God for FBRS! Some of the current dramas are too melo for my taste. Though VP’s good and darkly humorous. Also watching current episodes of Ojakgyo Brothers. I started with the last few episodes so I don’t know why Ryu Soo-young’s character got married. Anyone want to give me the reason? His wife’s mom (the one who played Hyun Bin’s evil mom in SG) is hilarious, UEE’s stepmom is annoying, and Jung Woong-in’s relationship with his son intrigues me. Hope they’d have more developments in the next few episodes.
Anyway, was disappointed with Lee Seung-gi. Of all the many “ideal girls” out there…he picked out the one I sincerely don’t like. He worked with quite beautiful and talented actresses/celebs before (Shin Mina, Han Hyo-joo, even Kim Yuna) but he still picked out Yoona. Again. *shakes head in disapproval* Oh, well nobody could be that perfect right?
Totally agree on the whole Lee Seung-gi thing. I honestly rolled my eyes when I saw that article. Maybe it’s because I’m not a Korean male but I honestly don’t see Yoona’s appeal. She’s so, well, boring. Or is that just me?
About OB:
Ryu Soo-young character after a long night of drinking had sex with his supervisor (now wife). She had always love him in secret, but they have a very confrontational relationship at work. She gets pregnant, and though he tries to ignore it, family gets involved and they have to marry.
Jung Woong-in character has been a jerk most of the time, and I think the arrival of his son will finally make him realize who he really is and what it is important in life.
stepmom has been a bitch since ep 1, now is back in UEE’s character’s life just to get the money for the farm and run.
It is a good thing that the characters have grown, because at first I dislike the brothers-mom-grandma combo and even Baek Ja Eun
She’s pregnant? Really? With the episodes I watched, there’s not even a hint that she is. Wow.
Oh, man! I felt sorry for the kid when Tae-shik was scolding him for every little thing. I know he’s in shock, but for an older brother, he sure doesn’t have any understanding of little boys. poor kid.
They showed SY eats more than normal, some morning sickness and stuff like that in other episodes. So I guess you’ll have to go back and watch.
Except for TH, all the other brothers started off being very selfish and TS is purely and ass that believes he is so great when he clearly isn’t. So having a good those of reality is good for him
Shin Mina! The girl is adorable AND beautiful AND sexy. Yoona…is cute?
Happy Friday y’all!
Frivolous fan-girl poll time! If the world was going to end in five minutes, and you were able to choose one K-drama hero (or heroine, I don’t discriminate) to have… *fun times* with, who would it be? And by hero/heroine, I mean the character and not the actor/actress who played him/her.
My choice? Moon Jae Shin.
Your turn!
Darn, you beat me to it. I’d pick Cha Dae-woong then from MGIAG.
woong ah! he totally blew me away in episode 13 I was wishy washy before that.
I wanted Moon Jae Shin too
Can’t you share?
Ok, then I’ll choose Lee Yoon Sung.
See, this is why I didn’t pick out Lee Yoon-sung. I knew there’d be a lot who would pick him. I’d rather pick the guy playing him.
You took the best ones.
In the name of goodwill, since the world is ending, I will allow for the bending of the laws of physics, so that the same super human Moon Jae Shin, to be in multiple places at once.
hmm
cha ji hyun/cha kang jin/shim gun wook(anytime prior to episode 15) They will want to play with me so I shouldn’t just choose one.
Please mention drama in (). Sorry i’m just curious.
cha ji hyun- protect the boss ( I love jisung!)
cha kang jin- will it snow for christmas
shim-gun wook- bad guy ( I’m mad for kim nam gil right now)
Oh, I love this question! I’d actually choose (and this may surprise some people, who know of my adoration for others) Oh Ji-ho’s character from Chuno.
This is too hard for me. I can’t make my mind. If there is something I don’t like about eating out is that it takes me forever to decide what I’ll eat.
But since we are talking about the end of the world and just about having fin and playing. Why don’t we just make a party and invite everybody here and every character we like?
I’m sure we will be able to have fun together.
Since Moon Jae Shin’s taken… I’ll have Kang Ji-wook (Scent of a Woman). Hotness.
Kang Tae Bong (Dal’Ja’s Spring). Young, fun, smart, urban.
Ah yeah and that second lead from “I need Romance”. Yum.
oh curses! how could I forget choi ji hyuk!
Lee Yoon Sung (City Hunter). He’s so cool although actor who played it is Hot.
RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN
CRAP I got too excited and didn’t finish reading. Um…I’m going with Cha Sang Doo (SDLGTS), Lee Young Jae (FH), Kang Bok Gu (ALTK)…any of those.
But yeah, to Oh Ji Ho in Chuno…sigh…that would be fun.
And if the milliions upon millions of clouds won’t let me have Rain…then I’m going with Kim Jung Woo in Swallow the Sun. Or Cha Kang Jin in Will it Snow for Christmas….or even, yes, Jihoon Sunbae in BOF.
…or all of them?
I mean, the world is ending, right?
I’m with you. KJH character in lie to me (even though I was ended up not really liking the show) Ji Sung in PTB, Dokka Jin, GY in Coffee Prince, LMH in City Hunter…..
OH yeah, JiHoo, I was ticked that Jandi went with the jerk, even if it was LMH. I’m like “come to mama, baby, I’ll take care of you”.
And Daniel Choi’s character in The Musical. Love me a musical guy. And he’s cute, besides. Mr Shel sings Italian opera when he’s working around the house and plays a mean blues harmonica.
Ooh, and Ah In’s character in SKKS. (I’m sorry, I’m terrible remembering character’s names unless I’ve seen it recently). Sorry I’m making so many posts..as I remember.
Shel – ahhahahhaah – ‘come to mama, baby’…that’s it, exactly.
Except this mama wants to do bad, bad things.
@ JoAnne …You can’t have RAIN…:() LOL
Keiki…I WILL fight you for him ; )
Keiki55 – I’m just warning you…there is a very special bond between JoAnne Unni and Rain….beware….
Unni – I was wondering when you’d pop in with Rain. I’d have to say
Rain as anyone. ANYONE. Because unni and I have similar taste in Rain…and Rain’s v. nice ass….and Rain’s v. nice…everything.
Park Shi-hoo as In-woo or anyone really. As long as he smiles.
LMH as YS (And the CH theme will be playing in the background)
CSW…let’s go with Dokko Jin. Heehee.
I love KJH, HGD? pre- episode 24?
Gong Yoo Han-gyul
Bae Soo Bin as Park Joon Sae
aww park joon sae my first second lead crush how could I forget it!!!!
Raine, ajbny..I just finished that one and raved about Joon Sae the whole way through
ajbny and Unni – I SO CALLED HIM FIRST! MWAHAHA!
But that aside, he’s amazing. He is built, tall, sweet, makes a good living and he enjoys his job. He’s dedicated and NOT a pushover. He’s fun and has BALLZ. Standing up to daddio? Ohhhh yes.
LOL I’m trying soooooo hard not to be biased (and failing miserably…), but one of the characters I’ve always thought would make a great :ahem: companion would be Song Ji-pung (played by Son Hyun Joo in “Sons of Sol Pharmacy”). He was just so teddy-bear loveable and I’m drawn to sweet, sensitive guys like that, so I’m sure he wouldn’t mind a major ahjumma-crush on him…
Besides, it would be too creepy for me to go after (Smile) Donghae-sshi, right? RIGHT? ::Other OTers backing away slowly::
Creepy? No… The world is going to end ! You shouldn’t have regrets. Just say’n.
Heh. Then I’d better get my claws into him and call dibs right now… I’m too crazed today to have to break out my own Sword of Glory to fight off the hordes of squealing fangirls…
Min jae from The Woman who still wants to marry!!!!
Or Yi Jeong sunbae…. (yes know…. but still, how can you not love him?)
hmm…. I think my bias is showing…..
It would have to be Dokko-jin in Best Love.
As many of you agree, is it CSW. Anywhwere.Anytime.Anyhow.
I know, CSW (especially as Dokko Jin) was the one who came first to my mind (OBVIOUSLY), but I guess I just find historical dramas more… I don’t know… compelling? dramatic? different from my real life and thus more exciting? Who can say? I love historical novels and dramas. But as soon as I see CSW in a sageuk, it’ll be OVER.
Jo Gook (Cha Seung-won) from City Hall.
*faints*
It was a tough call between Jo Gook and DJ, so I went with the one with a couple more years experience!
Haha. Dokko Jin is too crazy for me. Jo Gook is just… bad. In all the best ways.
HAHAHA. Bad…is good. OOOOH yes.
PEEING myself laughing here – Greatest Love is the best.
‘Oh look, the cherry blossom of shame is fading. Time for the camellia of revenge to bloom.’
Delicious potatos indeed.
Ok. So someone, tell me: am I SUPPOSED to hear ‘if you won’t accept my potatos I’m going to torture your chicken’ and think dirty thoughts? This would be my first KDrama double-entendre, if so.
Oh, you’re making me really want to eat some potatoes right now
How could anyone even THINK of eating a potato after that show?
Umm, if the potatoes belong to CSW/Dokko Jin, I’d eat them, as Jomo puts it, anytime, anywhere, anyhow
@JoAnne
Don’t know about “torture your chicken” (although my dirty mind can certainly think of plenty of double entendres for that).
Anyway, the whole “potato” thing, and “eating [someone's] potato,” became a metaphor for a certain sexual activity, somehow, during the course of our watching Best Love.
I feel kinda dirty even typing this, but that’s pretty much the double entendre.
Sethe, I’m with you on that one! I had to make a quick run up past Boston to see my poor sick baby girl at school and during one conversation I said ‘ so if I said to you ‘if you won’t eat my delicious potatos I’m going to torment your chicken’ what would you think?’ and she (non drama-watching child that she is) said MOM, that’s DISGUSTING, what do you THINK they mean?
STILL LAUGHING over Greatest Love, although I think we’re about to move into angsty territory. Its ok though – everything has moved at a very nice pace this drama. The bad people arent horrible, the good people aren’t too good, the weepers aren’t fricking annoying balls of goo, DingDong is cute, the jokes are funny, and I do see glimpses of why everyone thinks CSW is so hot.
It’s wierd though – I can SEE it…and I can HEAR it..but I don’t really feel it – not the way he means us to, anyway. He seems too joke-y to me, no matter where I see him.
I’ve recently seen some things with T.O.P. Not really into the boy bands so he was not on my radar, but um…now he is. That, ladies…is SWAGGER. And a sexier voice than CSW, I think.
He’s going on that list from earlier, for sure. All I want for Christmas is Rain, Ji Sung, Go Su, Oh Ji Ho, Kim Hyun Joong, and T.O.P. All lined up outside my door, wearing faded levis and a well-fitted white tee shirt. Barefoot. Smiling. Maybe a wink in there somewhere. There’s a couple I’d let sing softly into my ear, maybe. And a couple I just want to hear growl…
Unni -have you seen CSW in other things? And what’s with the clothes in your fantasy? Ooooh, you mean wrapping paper right? RIGHT?
Christmas list:
Rain, Cha Seung-won, Kang Ji-hwan, Park Shi-hoo, Yoo Ah-in, Lee Jung-jin, Lee Min-ho, Lee Dong-wook, Bae Soo-bin and….don’t kill me. Jang Geun-suk. Just so he can stand there and look pretty…in clothes and a haircut THAT I PICK FOR HIM.
Now I know they have to be shared. But if I may, please let me have them for a week. Then I’ll keep Park Shi-hoo and send the rest on their merry ways.
ha, Raine, no I’ve never seen him in anything else (CSW) but I will be adding stuff to the list based on this. I’m at a point in GL now where he beat up that awful manager, and he and DingDong are really good friends, and he’s dealing with his illness…and now that he toned down the crazy I find it easier to see the sexy.
Its just that…well…if I’m lying in bed and he yells Naaaaaaaaaaaaaa Dokko JIN yaaaaaaaaaaaaa…I’m going to punch him.
And the clothes? NOTHING SEXIER than really great abs and narrow hips teasing me over a pair of faded levis…and the unbuttoning. Ohhhhh, the unbuttoning….
Yeah…I gotta stop.
Ya, he’s a pretty rockin’ actor. I’m downloading a few things now to watch him as an action star!
I really like how he can get all crazy and then get all sexy.
But I agree: if he announces his dokko jin ness he better go play with himself after that…wow, that sounded way dirtier than I anticipated…oh well.
I like the picture you paint, but I like back facing me and shirt coming off so see neck and shoulders…:D
THere’s a CSW scene in Athena. Not sure the rest of the show is worth it….I didn’t even finish it. BUT….Ep 10 was lovely. :0)
He was AWSOME…
Easy choice Kyung Dae Sung from Age of Warriors
Why?
1. He was fly, smartly dressed and a heart for the people.
2. He went toe to toe with the famous Archfiend and his axe (if you see it this thing is huuugggeeee!)
3. He formed a loyal militia known as the Dobang group who kept corrupt officials at bay and distributed food to the poor.
4. He gave back all the land that was illegally obtained by his father back to the people when all other officials were busy stealing land. (He was able to stand up to his dad unlike you know who in 1000 day promise who is the very definition of spineless!)
5. He came from the warrior clan who were deprived and undermined while the scholars in this time period had everything which was the main reason for the coupe de tat that led to military rule. Warriors couldn’t even read so the fact that he was literate was astounding.
6. He was able to fight with a variety of weapons but his favorite one was the crescent sword (glaive?).
Got to be LEE BYUNG HUN from..ALL IN & IRIS…Yum Yum Yum… RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN RAIN I just love him…
err since you made a mistake!!! I’m going to add inha from all in
It’s Millenium Pepero Day and also my 11+11+11=33 years wedding anniversary. Was in Busan, now in Jeju, and leaving for Seoul tomorrow ^_^
Having a fabulous time!
I only have one grouse to air regarding some of the recent and current k-dramas and that is, that the rich and mean family members think nothing of slapping or throwing a glass of water on our lead (as in A Thousand Kisses). I really hate this.
Congrats for your 33 wonderful married years! Wish you more happy years.
btw, how’s the weather in Jeju? I’ll be there next weekend and I’m quite excited. Are there autumn leaves still?
It was very wet yesterday; overcast this morning but the sun peeped through this afternoon. The next few days will see a bit of sunshine and I hope the weather will be perfect for you when you’re here. Not much autumn leaves though.
Thank you so much!
I’ll only be there 2 days tops and I’m wondering if I could squeeze in a hike to the peak of Mt. Halla. I hope your wish for a good weather comes true.
Thanks again!
Happy anniversary and enjoy your trip.
Happy anniversary! May you have many more.
Congratulations! What a lovely anniversary trip. I hope you have a wonderful time.
Congrats on your anniversary.
Totally with you with regards to A Thousand Kisses. I find it very, very disturbing how certain characters (and not just one or two, but whole families) treat other characters, with no one (or just about no one) standing up to that abuse or questioning it.
Happy Anniversary!
Congratulations, Rubysing!!! 33 years is absolutely amazing! Have a wonderful time in Seoul
There you are, Happy Anniversary!!!! Be happy and best wishes for many more!!
Are they in a relationship or he’s just praising her? I find her totally uninteresting (I mean her face, know nothing about her acting skills or music). I wish he’d praise Shin Min Ah, she’s a total beauty and a very good actress.
that’s exactly what I thought that they might be dating. which is gross! not that I want him to date a knock-out like shin mina but yoona is a bit meh.
Yoona….:( I don’t know what it is about her. I guess it was after I saw her in 9 Ends 2 Outs that I became filled with dread whenever I heard her name in relation to any drama I was looking forward to. In fact I feel that way about all the SNDS girls. As musicians I don’t mind them so much but acting…? No.
And to TiaC…I would pick Song Sam Dong…because he is the cutest sweetest person ever. (After which I would pick Gu Yong Ha from Sungyunkwan Scandal then I would pick Cha Kang Jin from Will It Snow for Christmas then I would pick…..*seeing lists of handsome actors rushing before her eyes* that was just EVIL making me pick 1!!)
Greedy, greedy
. There’s plenty of cute k-actors/characters though, I don’t know how can a country be so prolific in hot items
.
you’d be pleased to know that Song Sam Dong aka Kim Soo Hyun has been cast in the sageuk the Moon embracing the Sun as one of a Joseon F4!!! I’m so damn excited right now!!! I jumped and squealed , surprising even myself when I found out last night
Does anyone else watch “Late Night Hospital”?
I’m really hooked.
Give us some details!
I might watch it in the future.
It’s about a doctor who’s wife was murdered. It was made to look like he murdered her.
He is scouted by this gangster who has information about the wife’s killer. He has to operate on him in order to get said info. However, he has an injury which prevents him from practicing.
He hides the injury while trying to investigate the murder on his own.
In the meantime he operates this late night hospital for gangsters, with this female doctor who seems to have a problem practicing medicine in a regular hospital due to some incident from the past.
It looks very cool and has very strong cliffhangers plus a very tortured hero.
And some hints of romance.
Sounds interesting, rather like an actual movie than a drama. Thanks
.
Hi, could anyone here tell me where I can watch orř download the drama Sun Hee and Jin Hee? It´s starring Son Ye Jin. I saw this drama many years ago and now I´d like to rewatch it. Thanks fo any info
P.S. Sorry for my english, I´m not from the english speaking country
I’m loving Ojakkyo Brothers right now. I really want OTP to resolve their differences very soon or I’ll go crazy.
Anyone else watching it?
I just started watching it because of Softy’s recommendation, and I’m loving it. Still only on episode 11 though (when she shows up with the tent). I never thought I would watch it because it’s so long and I was annoyed by UEE in YB, but it’s so well-written and -acted! And UEE is so good in it, she’s totally changed my opinion of her.
I REALLY hate the mom. I just want to stab her every time she gives Ja-eun that evil glare. In fact the whole family needs to do some serious growing up. I can’t wait til they find out that the mom stole the contract. Hopefully she’ll get her comeuppance.
Just give it some time and your perception of the mom will change. i hated her at the beginning as well. Her and all her biological sons, not I’m feeling better about most of them.
Though for me CYHMH is still the best family drama of 2011
CRAZY about Ojakgyo right now…definitely my favorite family drama of the year!!!
Hehe, I didn’t know when, but somehow your Open Thread is one of thing that I wait (>o<)
Tonight, just meet someone who loved L'arc en Ciel to death. Super happy and feel warm inside because of the nostalgic effect. Remembering how hard my love for Hyde is, keke. Still love him though, but in smaller portion. Right now, my mind already in K-Land (づ ̄³ ̄)づ
I used to love L’Arc en Ciel. Between the fantastic music and a french name I was all about it. Unfortunately, I was introduced to them by a former friend and I now associate them with end of that friendship :-/ I’m sure I’ll get over it.
L’arc en ciel will bring you back cmprindle! THEY WILL!
Hello, everyone! Last weekend I saw “Blind” (without subs) and the movie is great. So if you miss Yoo Seung Hoo you can see the movie on http://www.dramastyle.com.
Thanks. Watching it right now. I didn’t know about this site till now. It’s a nice site. It even has Ben-Hur
Aoiaheen – I loved that movie as a child, we watched it every year and then we stopped for a very wierd reason and I haven’t seen it since…maybe I will watch it again. (Weird reason: our dog got hit by a car in front of the house while we were watching the movie. She was ok, just a little scraped. The next year, we’re watching the movie again and I AM NOT LYING ABOUT THIS: as my brother said ‘remember last year when we were watching this and…’ CRASH out front…same dog, same driver, another run in. This time she broke her leg but he messed up his car by trying to avoid her. So freaked out, we never watched it again.
Ouch! I feel sorry for your dog. Is she fine now? Maybe you can get her to watch it with you. Lots of horses, so she might sit through the whole thing.
Aoieheen – that was almost 40 years ago…the dog is long, long, LONG gone. She did live for a long time after her traumatic events though!
Apart from it being Pepero Day it is also Remebrance Day.
I am ashamed to admit that I forgot to observe the two minutes silence at 11 today. I only realised when I switched on the television to watch the news.
poppy day, oh yeah. I’m not sure if they do this in elementary schools in america but in guyana poppies would be all over our uniforms.
Haha I was wondering if anyone even remembered that in the mass of “Happy Pepero Day”s.
Have a virtual poppy.
Where’s Shel? I think it’s Shel, anyway, who loves CSW? I am on Ep 5 of Greatest Love and oh my. I get it now. Of course, all I really needed to do was close my eyes and listen to that voice…
“who loves CSW?”
Here!
keu mok sori! maeumi tro!
translate for me, sweetie! I’m just not there yet.
Also…speaking of translating, LOL – while I study in bits and pieces, it’s SO COOL to hear something I didn’t ‘hear’ before but now that I know what it is, I do: for example: oori/woori
And can someone tell me about ‘krom’ – have never seen it, can’t look it up, seems to be used in multiple ways, like ‘well, then’ or ‘really’ or ‘of course’ or ‘naturally’ – exclamations like that.
Keurom- iroke
that was one of the first words I learned.
That voice! I like it( it enters my mind/heart) I’m not sure about the spelling of the “tro”.
I keep saying I’ll buy a dictionary but I keep forgetting. the word that I’m dying to find is the one that sounds like ta-i-nae. I get the feeling that it has wonderful properties.
Thanks AhjummaBunny…how long have you been studying? I don’t know why, I thought you were actually Korean.
I have been studying since january of this year ( when we had the drama slump). Alodia’s website had these lessons. I’ve been formulating a craigslist ad in my head for a language exchange for a few months now, but I want to lose 10 more pounds first. I don’t want to weigh more than my future oppa.
HAHAHAHAHAHAH omg you made me laugh – they do tend to be pretty slight, don’t they. I mean, they’re TALL enough most of the time…but seriously? How many actual men weigh 150lbs? (not saying you weigh that or more than that!)
I’m always like this: You cannot have those muscles and weigh 148lbs AND be 5’11, dude, unless your waist is 19 inches and your legs are like muscle-y little twigs.
Know what you mean, ahjummabunny… my future oppa (except he’s younger than me, so I guess the term may not apply?) is about my height (when I have no shoes on), but he’s pretty skinny… now, I’m not overweight (except by model standards, in which case I’m huge), but my ancestors were Vikings, and I take after them — tall and strong, let’s say — and it’s just a little uncomfortable to feel bigger than my man…(and no, here I don’t mean Mitt Romney… he’s actually several inches taller than me, quite a bit older than me, and has a bigger frame… yes, I think about these things
)
Oooh Unni – tell me about oori/woori. Is ‘oori’ like ‘our’
yes, that’s it exactly, just hadn’t seen it yet and wasn’t sure how to spell it.
He is awsome in greatest love. City hall too.
Isn’t CSW’s voice fan-tastic? Omigosh… *melts*
Hi, JoAnne! I’m here. Better late than never, eh? I totally forgot it was Friday….when I don’t go anywhere and sleep 15 hours a day I forget what day it is. :0)
Yes, I love CSW, although, KJH is still my fave. Oh wait, maybe it’s JiSung. Daniel Choi? So many cute boys, so little time. Especially for ahjumma such as myself. But, when you’re just looking, you can spread the love around a bit, lol.
I’ll post down below….watched LOTS of dramas this week when I was awake.
BEST LOVE is amazing! I’m Dokko Jin! Actually, I know you’re Dokko Jin. Now stop declaring it and drag me into the back of that van you won’t share.
Sounds like your studying is going pretty well.
Its so true about being skinny. The women in my family are all voluptuous Marilyn Monroe style. There is NO way Imma weigh 100 pounds unless I’m emaciated.
Oh ya, Unni, Rain is 75 kilos…A man with some meat. Oh yes.:D
Raine. Meat…heh, heh, heh.
I knew you would pick up on that, Unni dearest.
I’m pretty sure my bones weigh more than 100 lbs. :0) (I’m almost 6′). Somewhere some genes skipped a generation though, cuz I got beanpole kids….the 14 year old is 5’6″ and just broke 100 lbs. She wears a size 0 tall. The Boy had such a skinny butt that hubby used to say it was pointy, lol. But his wife took care of that, she’s a good cook, lol.
I’m 5’1…and a half! So is my sister. Which isn’t fair, cause all of my extended family is over 5’5…
I have two 5’10″ sisters, one 6’2″ brother and one 6’8″ brother AND a sister who’s 5’2″. We call her the mutant cuz she’s got naturally curly hair, has no allergies, and is short and thus cannot be our sibling. However, in her baby pics she looks almost identical to me. Weird, eh?
Isn’t that bizarre how that works? My sister could be my twin and we often get asked that. Our reply is that my mother conceived us, bore me (sister didn’t want to come out), conceived my brother, bore him (sister still didn’t want to come out), and then my sister finally decided to come out five years after first conception. So sure, we’re twins.
We often say we are for kicks. and that she’s older. I love it. She hates it.
Me and Short One are 18 years apart….she was born whilst I was playing the piano for the Concert Choir at Baccalaureate. I was relieved my mom wasn’t there, actually, as she’s the only person who makes me nervous, lol. We were doing the Wilhousky “Battle Hymn of the Republic” which was written for an orchestra, “reduced” (ha! not reduced enough) for the piano. Last verse is all running 16th note octaves, both hands.
Shel – ACK. It’s sounds like Rachmaninoff on drugs. Seriously, a good reduction is quite hard to come by. Did a pianist write that reduction?
I can always tell when a pianist writes a cello part. I was like, that’s left hand, not cello, you do not put consecutive 10th, 11th, and 12th leaps for 4 bars straight unless you’re a pianist. You don’t DO that on a cello. No, no no no. Bad composer.
Dunno who did the piano reduction. But if you youtube “Battle Hymn” and “Mormon Tabernacle Choir” it’s the arrangement that they use….but they have a whole orchestra AND the tabernacle organ, sometimes.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpZ3jPMM5Ac
And at 0:32, is my college neighbor….he’s been in the choir for 20 years. I had to teach him to sight-read for the audition.
And the stupid 16th notes start at about 4:00. This video doesn’t have great sound quality, unfortunately, but you get the idea. I coulda searched around for a better one, but I didn’t.
Hi everyone Happy Pepero/Veterans Day
So I am way behind on my k-drama watching as I got derailed because of the girl trilogy (Dragon tattoo, played with fire, Hornet’s nest). It was so addicting that when I finished one I had to rush to the store to get the follow-up twice (actually the last one I went to the store 10 min before closing time to get it). I like the female lead as she is flawed and has been through so much including being abused by her doctor and guardian which leads me to the second thing I want to talk about….
PennState Scandal. For those who are not aware Penn State is a top tier university in the US that is famous for its academic and athletic programs. However, this week it has been revealed that one of their highly regarded former assistant football coaches sexually abused 10-year old boys on school property and outside it. He was actually caught red-handed twice having sex with 10-year old boys in the shower by a janitor and grad student. The grad student didn’t call the police only told his dad who told the main coach who told sports director and all they did was to ban him from bringing boys to the school and didn’t call the police. Mind you this pedophile had an organization where he had access to a lot of at-risk boys and they didn’t stop him. Was anyone thinking of the victims or potential ones? Or they thought they would just sweep it under the rug and it will go away?
Shiku – Penn State is a major topic of discussion around here lately! Just can’t believe what people will ignore…
On The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy – LOVED the books, watched the swedish movies with subtitles, happily waiting for the American movie coming out soon…really sad that he died before he could finish the series.
It’s sad he died, I would have loved to read more books from him. I haven’t watched the swedish movies are they good? I saw the poster for the american one and they had Lisbeth topless but when I read the book I don’t think she would have been pictured like that as it wasn’t her style.
PennState thing – Why do you think they ignored it? Is it like a group think mentality where if you are injured in a crowd people wouldn’t help as they assume that someone else will come to their aid?
I feel like it’s more like sheep mentality than group think mentality, how people mindlessly defer to those they believe are the authority figures. It’s not that they assumed that someone else will come to their aid, but more like “I’m sure the bigwigs up further in the chain knows best. And if they say that a tickle on the wrist is all that person deserves for molesting little boys, then I’m sure they’re correct”. It’s like the Milgram experiment.
I actually think it’s a bit of what AsianRomance thinks, plus a willingness to put ‘the team’ ahead of the individual – in this case, the child. I have deliberately not been reading the articles and so all this time I thought that he was molesting members of the football team – I did not know it was young boys brought to campus for that specific purpose. Even more disgusting -and they all convinced themselves that ‘it wouldn’t happen again’ and ‘better not shake things up – it will hurt the football program’. You know that’s what it was. But children. Actual little small boys. My heart breaks.
It couldn’t possibly be to protect the cash cow that is college football. Especially at an upper tier school.
Sorry for the sarcasm. But people who either harm children or look the other way are the lowest form of life.
I mentioned this above, in the conversation about relationships between teachers and students. Not quite the same thing here, obviously… it’s been all over the new in the US, but I actually didn’t know how young the boys were.
I imagine it’s, like others have said, a case of “Don’t rock the boat”… also, I think Americans have this kind of idea that you should keep out of someone else’s business… what they’re doing is their thing, and it’s their business, not yours. That mentality has its pros and cons, obviously.
Since we’re talking about inappropriate sexual behavior, anyone have an opinion about Herman Cain and the allegations against him?
Plus, truthfully, many people might not want to get caught up in the distasteful kind of scandal that would undoubtedly result from them reporting this kind of thing… they’d have to discuss in detail cringe-inducing, disgusting things, and frankly, they very well might not even be believed, and might be accused of having some kind of agenda by coming forth with these allegations… considering all that, it’s not that hard to imagine why someone might prefer to just keep quiet about the whole thing…
Herman Cain, sigh, I honestly do not know why people are drawn to him or support him. I don’t think I have seen anyone be defended more than him in regards to the sexual harassment charges. He is always talking down to people all the time yet people mistake as ‘straight talk.’ He says racism ended 20 years ago and black people are where they are because of their life decisions. He says the unemployed are in that station in life because of their own fault. He says the poor are poor because its their own dayum fault. However, when it comes to these charges he is blaming everyone but himself. He blamed the democratic machine, lame stream liberal media (the story broke in Politico which is conservative), Gov Rick Perry, a reporter (who supposedly was one of the victim’s sons because they shared the same name and worked for politico), racism (yet it supposedly died 20 years ago) and a former campaign manager. This was after he went through all the amnesia not remembering to somehow remembering stuff phase.
I think he has women issues or maybe he prefers women in the kitchen which was illustrated by his calling former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Princess Nancy.
He has nothing to bring except his 9-9-9 plan which ironically would raise taxes on the middle class yet the top 1% pay less taxes. He doesn’t know or care about foreign policy because all the questions he was asked in Monday’s debate about the foreign events he kept on going back to his wretched tax plan!!!!!
Anyway if people want to throw good money after bad, it’s their own choice.
The Penn-State thing really disgusts me. The willful ignorance of others is akin to other sexual abuse scenarios of action vs. power. The harm done to the victims should not be acceptable collateral damage.
But my line in the sand is merely that-any ideas for resolution?
Well, we can start by not having an immediate “Blame the victim,” and “The victim is lying” kind of approach, which is how I think most people approach these kinds of cases today. (Again, witness Herman Cain, who’s able to blame the media, his opponents, racism, whatever… and get away with the narrative that of course he didn’t inappropriately approach at least 4 women back in the ’90s… of course the accusations are all coming, unfounded, from the liberal, racist media [yeah, I won't go into all the obvious falsehoods with that narrative].)
Point is, US society these days is so quick to blame the victim, to assume she (or he) was asking for it, by going out for drinks with the man, or… I don’t know… looking cute around him, or even flirting… y’know, I might flirt with people, but there’s kind of an unspoken code/agreement that flirting doesn’t mean I’ve given consent to sleep with you, or have you force me to… do… whatever with you. Right?
But it seems that a woman who feels a man forced her into doing something she didn’t want to do — which is her right, regardless of how she was dressed or how much she flirted with him (she still doesn’t have to have sex with him, or blow him, or whatever, if she doesn’t want to)…anyway, a woman who does that is either a slut or a gold-digger, and either way, she has no right to say the man tried to force himself on her when she didn’t want it.
Now, okay, you may say she was putting herself out there sexually to get a job or a promotion or whatever… fine… if those are the qualifications she’s going to show, she may not deserve that job or promotion… but the point still is that trying to have sex with a woman, and making any kind of threats about it, when she makes it clear she doesn’t want it, is always going to be inappropriate.
I agree with everything you said about how many people blame the victim instead of the perpetrator. I think people should start putting themselves in other people’s shoes.
Here is a link to the grand jury report of this scandal if you want to read it.

I think the what happened at Penn State is very similar to what happened with the Catholic Church abuse scandals. Some people knew for sure what was going on, some people heard rumors, but rather than bring scandal to the school, rather than sully their spotless reputation, they all decided to keep quiet. Well, look what keeping quiet got them. That spotless reputation is completely destroyed, and they’re all getting fired. After 61 years of service, Joe Paterno, a living legend, was dismissed with a phone call. A phone call. I think it’s sad, but I think he deserved it. He said with hindsight he wished he had done more. Yeah, understatement of the year Joe. What drives me up the wall is that now that the proverbial fecal matter has hit the fan, they all keep saying that they didn’t realize how serious it was. Hearing that a coach was fondling a 10 year old boy in a shower wasn’t serious? How serious did it need to be???!!!!! I’m sorry that Paterno’s storied career had to end like this, and I know the students at the school think it’s unfair, but he was a leader. This happened on his watch, and he did nothing to stop it. Sorry Joe, you gotta go. They should be happy they’re aren’t going to jail. Teachers, nurses, doctors, social workers are all mandated reporters. If we did what these guys did, which is say nothing when presented with evidence or suspicion of abuse, we’d go to jail.
hear, hear!
Can I recommend the following link to people for a treatment of this subject?
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3096434/#45253985
Also watch the previous and following videos… really informative.
These MSNBC hosts are really sympathetic to abuse victims, and really sympathetic to those whose campaign may have gone totally off track with one unfortunate comment…
Interesting piece about the missing DA who was part of the 98 investigation. I wonder if he is dead, ran away to a new life or was a victim to the PSU scandal?
I saw 만추 (Late Autumn) with Hyun Bin last night, as part of the London Korean Film Festival. Really enjoyed it (will review it on my blog this weekend). Even the experience of watching the film was intriguing. There is a scene when Hyun Bin comes out of the shower with just a towel draped around him. Showing off his lovely six-pack. A significant part of the audience (45% Korean, 45% Chinese, 90% female I would estimate) went “Ahhhhhhhh”, while the rest of the audience broke out in laughter in reaction to that “Ahhhhhhhh”. So funny.
Watching (drama-wise) at the moment:
-Sunshine Angel (TW, half-heartedly only, skipping scene)
-In Time with You (TW, getting rather annoyed Ariel’s character. she’s just behaving idiotically and there is no excuse for it. You do not, at 30, go back to someone who cheated on you, you broke up with 5 years ago, especially if you had more being-cheated-on-experiences in the meantime. Simply does not compute. And Li Da Ren either needs to tell her his feelings or move on. Arghhh.)
-A Thousand Kisses (skipping scenes also, the way they treat divorcees is just too upsetting)
Hoping to watch Flower Boy Ramyum Shop Eps 3 and 4 soon – I did not enjoy Episode 2, but JB’s recap give me some hope. If we get a battle between the leads with both being flustered, I might start enjoying it again.
alua- you will be pleased I think. character and plot development and the jerk gets some good comeuppance! I think when I revisit that first episode after watching the series I will have a different take on it…but by itself…guh.
Hi all! Happy Friday. And Remembrance/Veterans Day.
Wow, it’s been AGES since I posted on OT. So many new names.
I’m currently recovering from a very long illness (almost ten years). It’s been an incredibly long and devastating road, and there were many times that I felt I couldn’t go on. Looking back it amazes me what I went through and how I survived. One of the things that helped to pass the painful days and sleepless night was k-dramas, and of course Dramabeans. Thank you javabeans, for creating this wonderful haven of sanity, humor and good writing where we can spazz about our k-obsessions to our hearts’ content.
Healing is a painful and tiring process, and it’s also hard to believe that I’m actually getting better, that I might actually regain all the things I lost and have a life again. It’s a scary feeling to hope, when you’ve been forcing yourself not to hope for so long, so you won’t be disappointed. All I can do is be grateful every day, and pray that things will keep getting better.
I just wanted to share that with someone. Love to all my fellow beanies. May all your dreams come true.
*hugs* What a wonderful message! I admire you for the strength that you had to get through your illness while maintaining your good humor. I hope your recovery will be much shorter than your illness.
Oh my! I am amazed at your strength and that you are still optimistic and hopeful after all this time. I honestly don’t think I have a fraction of your strength. I hope everything goes well and you finally beat the disease and get your life back. We beanies will be praying for you..
I’m so happy for you that you’re recovering. I admire you for your courage to get through your illness without giving up.
I wish that you get to do all the things that you wanted to do.
I’d be one of the new names, but wanted to say glad to hear you are recovering and keep up your good spirits.
Thanks for all the good wishes everyone! <3
Hurray for you, Laica! I know people who have ongoig illnesses/physical issues, and both my grandfather and a beloved great-aunt had longterm illness before they died. As you said, it’s a painful and tiring process. Thank God that you made it through! *hugs* We’re happy to have you back in the Beanie ranks
Thank you. *hugs back*
Consider it shared and happily received! Your story hit me because my aunt is battling an illness and we actually have to move her from a different state so she can be near us. It’s really tough to fight one’s way through illness.
We’re glad to have you here and cheerful!!!!!
Happy Fiday/OT everybody!
Finally it’s here!
All week long I’ve been waiting for 11-11-11 but we’ve got no places to buy Pepero’s down south in Laredo TX.
I’ve finally started watching High Kick and I’m loving it! Don’t let the 160 episodes stop you like I did.
Have a happy Pepero Day everyone!
Watching Partner this weekend. I started it last night and I’m enjoying it so far.
Happy Friday/Pepero Day/Veterans Day/Rememberance Day to everyone, and Happy Anniversary to @RubySing too!! Arigatou gozaimasu and kamsahamnida for all the birthday wishes — fighting off the ahjummas at the grocery store took a lot out of me last Saturday, so I decided to skip going to see “Silenced” that evening and made plans to see it on Tuesday night with a few like-minded friends.
Then I walk into the office Monday AM to find out one of my team members quit over the weekend (she was too stressed out over the amount of work on her plate that she decided to just up and leave with no notice)… and all her projects were reassigned to me until we find a replacement. So much for having a little breathing room, ne? We’re under severe hard deadlines on all these projects that I’m now back to 60-hour weeks again. Sheesh. (The screening has thankfully been extended another week, so we’re hoping to watch on 15 November instead.)
And such a busy week this was, with the T-ara MV dropping on Wednesday, the news that Kim Soo Hyun is returning to our small screens with a new project (squeeeeee!), and last (but certainly never least), there’s finally more news about JCW’s “Bachelor’s Vegetable Store” drama!! I’m running the forum over at Soompi, and have been soooo frustrated over the lack of information provided by Channel A, their parent corporation, and the usual news outlets that I was headdesking every day waiting for goodies to arrive.
But I woke up earlier than usual this morning with a feeling that something had happened overnight… and there was!! The production had their Prayer Ceremony out in Yangpyeong where the first scenes will be filmed… with baskets of fruits and vegetables taking the place of the characters yet to be cast. A ha ha ha ha ha! With the other “bachelors” not even cast yet (if the production stays true to the book and/or musical, there should be 6 of them), and Channel A not even going on-air until 1 December, I bet I’m going to be pulling out my hair until this thing goes live on 21 December.
And lastly, I’m attending a dinner tonight in honour of Veterans Day onboard the USS Hornet 2, which after being decommissioned by the US Navy, was dry-docked up in Alameda Harbor and turned into a floating museum. My father was the Mess Hall Sargeant on the Hornet during World War II, and saw lots of action in the Pacific Theatre (Guam, Saipan and Okinawa especially). When he passed away in 2005, I donated his dress blues, official papers and foot locker to the Museum, and I go up every year on Veterans Day for the dinner and a Big Band concert thereafter. Sadly, the numbers of veteran attendees decrease from year to year… I’m just glad that I can contribute a small part of their organization while they’re still alive. ::salute::
Gotta run, minasan. Be back later tonight. HUGS TO ALL!!
*HUGS* cherkell! You’ve been a busy, busy bee, and it sounds like you’re going to be even busier soon. I hope you had a good Veteran’s/Remembrance Day.
@cmrprindle HUGS BACK to ya, unni! And Saeng-il chukhahamnida to you — hope you get lots of Birthday Loot!! Us Scorpios RULE!!
That sounds fun, I love big band music. My Dad was just too young for WWII and just too old for Korea and Vietnam. But hubbys Dad and Uncle Paul were both involved in DDay: Dad got shot down parachuting into France the day before (he survived, but it’s an amazing story) and Uncle Paul was on Omaha Beach where all but 3 of his unit died. He never talked about it until about five years ago when hubby convinced him to let us film him telling the story.
Becuase the Defense Language Institute is here in Monterey, I have many military friends. I’m always in awe of their dedication, their love for their country and their willingness to up and move every couple of years. After they leave here, we have many who are deployed to scary parts of the world (most are here to learn Arabic, Pashtu, Urdu and Farsi), and the strength of their wives who become single parents for a year or more is just amazing.
I don’t always agree with the conflicts we get ourselves involved in, but I love the troops for their willingness to go where they’re sent.
I attended the Defense Language Institute in Monterey in..I want to say it was 86/87, for Russian. Loved the school – wasn’t really crazy about the area, but I was young (23/24) and grew up pretty much literally on the Atlantic – the Pacific coast is so different! I did learn to love those rolling brown hills, but it took some time. Now of course, I look back very fondly and would love to re-visit.
Did you know a Kenn Garner when you were here? He taught Russian there off and on and they were here a couple of times. He retired as the head MLI six years ago.
Shel…it was so long ago, I don’t know honestly! I mean, the name sounds familiar but it’s not an uncommon name so who knows? At this point I remember my roomies name, and the name of the guy I dated from Ft Ord, LOL
I can say, though, that I only had native Russian speakers as teachers.
He’s not a native speaker. And it’s possible that when he was here in the 80′s he was learning, not teaching. It was a long shot.
Was it you that got the new Sharon Penman book? Wondering how you like it….I haven’t started it yet, attempting to finish the book I’m already reading first. I put it on the bottom of the stack when I got it, but my sister keeps calling wondering what I think, so I moved it up to next. :0)
Shel, nope, not me with the book
I LOVE it here, but I’m a west coast girl, grew up in the Southwest. After living in Phoenix heat and Salt Lake winters, I love the temperate weather and I really love having the beach close….just five mins away. I moved here in 95.
@JoAnne, if ya ever make the trip back here to the Left Coast, there’s a cushy sofa bed waiting with your name on it…
@shel darling, I hope you get better soon! I’ve had a few bouts over the years with pneumonia in this schizoid Cali weather, and it ain’t fun. I highly recommend picking up a jar of Citron Tea from your local Asian grocery store — it kinda looks like thin orange marmalade, but has amazing healing properties for me. I think the combination of hot liquid and citrus oils somehow loosens up the ol’ lungs and soothes the owies away.
And the dinner/dance was awesome, even with the sad news that another 15 sailors who served on the Hornet passed away just in 2011 alone. Sigh.
I’ll check it out…there’s an Asian store down the street from my BFF in Marina, I’ll be there tomorrow.
Happy Pepero, Great OT, and TGIF squee to everyone!
I am almost jumping for joy to be back here after a two week absence. I was mostly on the road (more like on the air) traveling back to the Philippines from Maryland with several stops in between. Was in San Francisco, then Seattle, then Vancouver, then Las Vegas (where I won the whopping amount of 12 dollars!)
It was a great 2-month furlough for me and part of that was of course spent on downloading and watching kdramas. My only regret is that I missed the snow by one day! Although there was a North’ester in some parts of the East Coast, the snow was just beautiful in the Maryland area where I lived. *sob* Should have booked my flight back one or two days later.
Happy to report that I was able to invite my friend into kdramaland. We started with City Hunter on Netflix, then BOF, City Hall, etc. She is now hooked, even marathoning SKKS in one weekend. When I left, she was chuckling over some antic or other by Kim Jo Woon (Secret Garden). I left her with 500 GB worth of kdramas to watch. I shall be monitoring her journey into kdrama addiction. *smacks lips* Such a satisfied feeling he he.
I’m dying for the Flower boy ramyun shop ep 3-4 subs to come out omggg it’s been like 4 days alreadyyy wahh I am distressed XD been trying to distract myself by watching hana kimi but sadly I don’t find this drama (or other jdramas) that appealing or interesting, tbh -.-
why is hana kimi so boring? I’m like falling asleep here lol~! the only good jdrama I watched was Kimi wa Petto ;A;

Happy OT everyone!
Anyone here crazy over Flower Boy??? Ani and ALvina, spazz up~~~
Gah, this show is just killing me for the waiting time. I already rewatched 1 and 2 with subs like a dozen already. Episode 3 and 4 without recaps too. Mind you, I read JB and GF recaps on FBRS for like the nth time so that even if I am watching the raw I could understand. Ahhhh, what a drama can do to us!
I had not had this feeling again with another drama since Dream High and My Princess where the anticipation for the next episodes is very high. My crack this season!
Sure am watching other dramas, OB, MoH, ATDP and High Kick 3 (so behind already) and TWDR too. They are so good, I wish an additional extension of time to get going each day coz of my time spent on each drama.
Another one that got me so addicted is OB-Ojakgyo Brothers. Wow, this drama is sure to keep you glued to it. Been residing at Softy’s Cadence just to keep myself updated and not miss a beat about it. Softy’s live caps, with Fanderay, are just awesome. I never even thought that I would be able to watch or follow a 50 episode drama but here I am following it like crazy. You should watch it guys.
Hi MJP & ahjummabunny!
Hi Nonski!
How have you been? I’m going through Gong Yoo withdrawals this weekend.
hello nonski! I hope you are eating and living well.
nonski – I disliked the first FBRS episode. But by ep 4, I’m a total junkie. Funny and with substance!
Happy Friday everybody! (Now that I’ve actually figured out that it IS Friday, lol) Here it’s rainy and windy, and I’m starting to think I’m gonna wake up in Oz with a cranky lady wanting my shoes.
Happy Anniversary up there! I tried to scroll up cuz I couldn’t remember who it was, but I can’t find it and my head’s pretty foggy. Happy whatever-holiday-you’re-celebrating to the rest of you.
Still pretty sick, although I am feeling a little bit better. As long as I don’t do too much. Mostly I’m starting to get kind of bored. But, I have amazing friends who’ve just jumped in and taken care of so much. Hubby started working from home this week for awhile, he has to work nights, but it’s nice to have him here. And, not be shelling out for a tank of gas every other day (he was working 80 miles away).
Saw a lot of dramas when I was awake:
The Musical: LOVE me some Daniel Choi, but is it just me or I detect no chemistry between him and GHS? He definitely needs to end up with someone, though.
Flower Boy Ramen: Really cute, but they aren’t subbing them fast enough. I’m checking about 8 times a day for them to be poted.
High Kick Through The Roof: More Daniel Choi. Up to episode somewhere in the 20′s. Watched the last episode, (cuz I”m stupid and do that sometimes) and now I wanna slap the writers, but I’ll probably finish watching it anyway.
High Kick III: Up to 5 or 6 here. Very funny and I love it so far.
A Thousand Kisses: Terrible name for a drama that has only had about 3 in 22 eps. Getting a little melo for me, but I’m sucked in now and have to find out what happens.
Man of Honor: Like this so far, but I have a feeling it’s heading toward melo-land. ‘Sokay, CutiePie is cute and I like PYM. Wanna seriously take a baseball bat to Evil Dad though.
Biscuit Teacher: marathoned this. Loved it, loved all the student stories. The teacher/student thing bugged me a bit, too, but I still loved it. Of course, what’s not to like with GY in it.
Tree W/Deep Roots: LOVE LOVE LOVE this one. Every week I’m on pins and needles waiting for the next episode. Love the portrayal of King SeJong and the guy who wants to kill him (sorry, drugs interferring with my memory there) is awesome. I like how his character is growing and changing and it’s hard to tell who’s side he’s gonna end up on. And I totally didn’t see the butcher thing coming (won’t say what, spoilers and all).
Man Who Can’t Marry: Kind of marathoning this. It’s OK, but Ah In and So Eun are cute. I kind of wish the story was more about them, but it is interesting to see the lead’s character growing and changing.
One of my “sisterwives” got bronchitis and threw her back out coughing, so we’ve been comisserating at least once a day about how we could use new lungs, and it’s time to call and check up on her. She’s on codeine cough meds and muscle relaxants, so she’s pretty entertaining to talk to, lol.
Have a lovely weekend everyone! I’ll be back at some point, I’m sure.
Wow, lots of typos and missed words in that. And long and rambly. I really shouldn’t attempt stuff like this under the influence. :0)
Aww, Shel! *sends soup and blankets and more dramas* Glad you woke up long enough to join us, and that you’ve got help so you’re not sick with gobs of work to look forward to when you get better
Happy weekend to you. Feel better still. *hugs!!*
Thanks. We’re heading into week 3 and I’m feeling like a hermit. I did get out a couple of times to run errands, where I just drove and sent my teenager in to do the actual errand. She’s been very good about helping, too. It was nice to get out in the sunshine. No sunshine today, though, rainy and kind of chilly and VERY windy. So I stayed home with my fireplace, hot chocolate and “The Man Who Can’t Marry”. I hear FBRS is up now, so I’m off to go see if my crappy internet will stream well enough to watch it.
I hope you were better today. And getting out even a little is good. Wow, 3 weeks seriously under the weather is intense!
I’d love to know what you think of The Man Who Can’t Marry. I have double-interest in it b/c it’s vaguely related to TWWSWTM and the actress who was in BOF.
It was pneumonia, so it just takes your lungs a long time to recover. I wake up thinking I feel much better, but I don’t have to do much to figure out that I’m still sick. I’m the organist at church, and I think I’m going tomorrow at least for the communion service, because we don’t really have anyone else to play. I’ve had pianists cover the last couple of weeks, but none of them are very confident doing it.
The Man Who Wouldn’t Marry (or however they named that)…I kind of liked it. It was funny to the end. The lead character, Jo Jae Hee is so uptight/socially backward. Makes me think of Monk…kind of Asberger’s-ish (I have a nephew who’s very similar). But the story is cute, Ah-In and Kim So Eun as 2nd leads are adorable, and the two main lead’s parents are a hoot as they scheme to get their 40-ish unmarried kids together. I wouldn’t list it as a favorite, I don’t think, but it was enjoyable.
Shel- be well! Stay warm and bundle-y. How’s the pageant coming?
Stop making me want to add MORE to my drama list. When you’re a newbie like me, EVERYTHING lies in front of you ’cause you haven’t seen anything.
*hugs*
I haven’t been to rehearsal for the big program in 2 weeks, but I think I’m going to try and go tomorrow night. My back up pianist has resorted to begging, lol.
The service program is on hold…we just got a new bishop (think pastor) and I haven’t been able to talk to him about what he wants and whether we wanna do the program the week before Christmas or Christmas morning. We have a high number of military in our congregation, so Christmas morning is going to be really sparse as they’ll all be out of town…as will I. So we’ll see what he wants to do. I did go through one box of music, but nothing grabbed me and said “THIS IS IT!”.
Ah yes, its hard with new clergy AND knowing you’re going to be absent and having to prepare. Do you have a handbell choir?
Happy weekend!
What did I miss?
Hi Your Royal Highness! Olen Maniya!
nonski, How are you?
It’s been raining here in my kingdom!
Total mood-kill. Gah!
YRH! Happy Weekend to you
You haven’t missed much at all. Look, it’s still the first page and everything
How are you?
CMR
I screwed up my neck. Weird position in bed and such.
Other than that, I’m fine. You weren’t here last week, were you? How have you been?
I think I missed a lot considering I arrived when 270 comments were already posted. But I’m glad I’m here.
Eep.
“weird position in bed and such”
Taken out of context, that’s just wrong!
I didn’t mean it THAT way, by the way.
Gah, I should edit before clicking ‘submit’!
I did laugh, but I don’t know you yet so I let it go…
LOL
This is what happens when English is your 3rd or 4th language, JoAnne.
kekekekeke….made me giggle!
I actually took that totally straight, YRH, but now that you mention it….lol! I sleep in such weird ways, sometimes, that I totally sympathize.
How many languages do you know, YRH?
@ CMR
I am fluent in 5 languages, I understand around 2.5 and I’m thinking of taking French or Japanese as a minor subject next year. We’ll see
@YRH, to think I only sorta remember high school french. You put this noona to shame, but in the best way possible.
@CMR
It’s not like I wanted to learn all those languages, you know. (I’m not that hardworking, heh) I just sorta grew up with different speakers since I’m a mix-blooded hybrid child. I’ll fail miserably when it comes to proper grammar.
Oh, I heard French is tough but to study Japanese I need to learn all those characters. *sigh*
Dude, I TOTALLY read it the wrong way the first two times I read it…and thought….YOU GO!
I took Spanish in high school, but the only Spanish I remember is stuff that I wouldn’t say in English, lol. And I learned that from my Mexican friends in school, or the Latinos that I worked with. I can swear in Italian, also, thanks to a very hot headed Italian boss. OH, and in French, too, thanks to my best friend’s Belgian mama.
So, mostly, I should just keep my mouth shut, lol.
@Raine
I’m not THAT naughty, you know. But thanks for feeding my male ego for a minute there. Heh
@Shel
Bwa Ha Ha Ha…
We should immortalize those words. Hilarious!!!
Oh, believe me. I learned swear words faster than I learn how to say hello in a particular language.
Shel – Doesn’t everyone learn to swear before they learn to say hello?
French is hard, but so much fun to learn and speak. I really really need to continue my education in it. But there’s that thing called time…et je n’en ai pas.
Ricky – I know I’m the one with the dirty mind…I was very heavily projecting…
oh, Ricky….Ricky, Ricky, Ricky.
That mistake would be made even by people who are speaking their native language – I put my foot in my mouth all the time!
LOL
I can relate.
I did make it on last week, btw, but on the second page as one of the later comments. But I saw your concern for me a few weeks ago and that made me happy
You haven’t heard from Viola Dear have you?
No, I haven’t seen Viola too.
She’s in med school, right?
Good point! She was super busy w/exams around the summer, and I remember all the doctor-types showing their support.
I’ve friends in med school in India & from what they told me, I know it’s tough. Let’s just hope that Viola is doing fine.
Hi, how goes the battle?
Hey, Shel!
Which battle are you referring to? I’m having so many battles now. Heh
How’s life?
Life is the battle, lol. I know you’re doing school, etc and that can be stressful.
Life’s chugging along here. The germies didn’t kill me yet, the hubby is working from home, which means we save all kinds of gas money and I actually get to see him, and Crankypants (the teenager) has been less cranky this week.
LOL! At Crankypants.
You’re nicer than I am. When my middle son was a teenager for about 3 years I quit calling him by his name and just called him Damien. He really was the demon child.
You couldn’t pay me enough money to live through that again.
Thank goodness he finally grew out of it.
LOL at Crankypants. It always amuses me when parents talk about their teens. It hit a soft spot in my heart because I was one a few years ago.
I wouldn’t say that I’m terribly stressed. I’m more or less a calm person. Tired is a more suitable word.
p/s Some people get butterflies, tremble or suffer from insomnia when they’re stressed, I yawn excessively instead. Weird, huh?
I just get headaches, but it takes a lot to stress me. I’m kind of a go-with-the-flow kinda person.
And Crankypants is usually a delightful kid, just about one week a month she’s a stinker, if you know what I mean, lol. So far I love most of her friends and enjoy having them around.
I already lived through one other teenager, but he’s a boy and boys are MUCH easier. He’s in law school now, so he turned out OK. ;0)
If I remember correctly, I used to be a somewhat difficult teen. My sister was so much better as a teenager.
I’m with you on the go-with-the-flow personality. It takes a lot to actually stress me out or even make me angry. I get easily frustrated though, but that’s usually because of trivial things and my own short-comings, like forgetting where I put my house key-card thingamajig.
I think with The Boy there was just a lot less drama. Boys (at least his friends and most of the guys I know) are lot more straightforward and not into headgames. Girls tend to be snarky and kind of mean. It seems like we’ve always got one of these girls mad at another one for some perceived slight. You need to have serious diplomatic skills to keep everyone happy.
It could just be me. I’ve always related to guys/men better than women, and really didn’t have too many close female friends until after I got married. Now I don’t know what I’d do without them, my “sisterwives”. ;0)
Shel, it’s not just you. My mom was the guidance counselor at an all-girls school for….4 years? You have described many of their relationships to a T.
Headgames are sooo much fun! LOL
I used to be a master at the art of reverse-psychology in my teen years. (Still am, I think)
Oh, my poor mom.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Episodes 3 and 4 of FBRS are UP!!!!!
YAY!!
Unni – I marathoned them at 3am even tho I had to get up and teach. I hadn’t expected to but by the time 3 had ended my hand pushed 4 of its own volition. My cat was even watching over my shoulder!
Raine – it’s pretty addictive and I’m loving Kang Hyuk so far (I think that’s his name, the giant from ALtK). But at this point my total heart belongs to that sweet face on Ba Ool
Where have we seen Ba Ool before? He looks familiar, what a cutie he is!
Shel, apparently he was in My Princess – this is only his second drama. I haven’t seen My Princess yet, but he’s such a cutie I’m going to check it out.
OOH….was he the cook? He was adorable…
He was the cook/servant boy in my princess. The one on the bike! I thought he was adorable then AND now.
Happy Friday/Weekend, OT!
Happy Veteran’s Day/Peppero Day/Thank-God-We’re-All-Alive Day
I’ve had the day off, and I’ve alternated betw slacking and hanging out w/mom. We did brunch, some early birthday pastry shopping (my b’day’s on Monday), and picked up groceries. It wasn’t quite in the order, but you get the gist of our day. Like many folks, it’s cold and overcast here, but we enjoyed ourselves. It’s just nice to have a day off!!
My drama watching is at an absolute crawl. I just finished off ep 45-46 of Twinkle Twinkle, so you see where I am in life >.< Speaking of which, Show, you made me cry not once, but twice. What happened to fun and the romance, and the indomitable power couple who couldn't be beaten back? Now I truly know the look of The Noble Fool. He's hot (Editor Song = yum) but he's a blinkin' idiot.
I'm in the process of editing my first essay for NaNoWriMo…from which I'm doing the other half of my procrastinating by reading comment-fic on livejournal and Leverage fic on FanFiction.net. *hangs head in shame* I hope to post this tomorrow if not tonight, along with the story I'd originally started for NaNo.
How is everyone? MJP unnie, how is MJP family? I know I've mostly been away, but I feel like it's been a while since we've heard tales of MJP oppa, Wee MJP and Teen MJP. Then again, you are very, very busy these days, unnie.
Of course lately that seems to be everyone's story :-/
Let me be your first OT family member to wish you a Blessed Birthday!!!
Knowing you has been great and I hope for the best in your life, CMR!
CHEERS *raises soju*
*bear hugs*
And I want to read that fan-fic, please.
Aww! Thank you, YRH! *hugs back!* I always do enjoy a good hug.
But what fanfic do you speak of, sir? The Woman Who Still Wants To Marry one that seems to be going nowhere slow, or what I wrote for NaNo this year?
I’m game for anything. But that TWWSWTM idea is very appealing to me. I remember that you introduced that idea 6 months ago, give or take.
I posted the TWWSWTM story a few weeks ago, but I’ll gladly repost to my fic-journal and link for you. By tomorrow. I’m tuckered out.
You’re too nice to me, CMR!
Pshaw, YRH. And trust me, any writer is more than happy to share their work…eventually
TWWSWTM is here: http://august-85th.livejournal.com/13704.html. The newly finished second part is disgustingly long, and linked in the first section. (or it will be shortly)
It’ll take me a lil while longer to put up my NaNo fic, mostly because I’ve been super distracted all night :s
Happy birthday!
Thank you, Shel
CMRprindle, *HUGS*
Ricky The Royal Highness, *HUGS*
It’s 2 a.m here and I am falling asleep trying to read all the posts. I was only able to be on for an hour on Friday and just stopped by before bed. Hopefully, I’ll be back after some sleep to chat.
CMR,
Happy Birthday, Sweet One!
May God bless you and continue to keep you.
*HUGS!* Thank you thank you, MJP unnie! Your birthday wishes couldn’t be more welcome if they were coming from one of my own aunts. (I know “unnie” translates to “big sister” but in my family it’s the blood & honorary aunties who are a big deal.)
I hope you slept well and have a wonderful weekend.
CMRprindle!
Yes, I had a good sleep then a busy Saturday. Now I get some free time! I am assuming you are currently celebrating.
How is Mom?
MJP unnie, Mom is wiped out and has been a-bed since about 9pm. I’m not much further behind her. I totally could have gone to bed at about 8:30, but I can be a stubborn someone. She gave me the loveliest sun, moon and stars birthday card. I saw it in her collection last month and really, really hoped it would be mine
On the whole, though, she’s extremely busy at work. She leaves before the crack of dawn and is often home sometime between 6 and 9. :-/
To celebrate, Mom and I actually went to the circus to, which we used to do every year for my b’day until I was an older teen.
It so happened that my adult cousin was taking her great-neice for the little one’s b’day which is two days after my own
She was totally adorable and very well behaved for an almost-4 year old. The adults around us were worse, on occasion. (Seriously, we were sitting in 2 different sections, so they decided to come over to us pre-show. When the rightful owners of the seats next to me and Mom showed up, they gave a very adult-to-adult “You’re in my seat” to the almost-4 year old!)
But we had much fun being together at the circus, and managed to sit together after intermission.
Have a lovely Sunday, unnie and MJP family
Sleep well, MJP!
Hello again!
Ricky TRH how are the studies going? Have you got your goove on?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3FjzK5LJw3o
LOL perfect song from a fellow royalty!
I’m fine here. These next few days are going to be slightly hectic because EVERYTHING needs to be submitted this week.
How’s the teen?
Ricky TRH,
The teen is doing alright. Honestly, I have a lot I want to share with you, but just not with the rest of the world, if you know what I mean. But we are all growing and learning together.
oh it’s monday. Happy Birthday! You should watch Tree with deep roots. It’s sooo goood. Well I noticed someone mention they hated they flying but I LOOOOVVEEE it.
lol…I feel like we’ve gotten all our wires crossed, Jumma. And it does sound like Tree with Deep Roots is fantastic. The love coming from everyone is serious stuff!
Happy Birthday!!!
I hope you are enjoying your weekend.
Thank you, zgznoona! So far I am enjoying myself
Happy Birthday.
Hope you meet your K hero this year
ck10z! What a wonderful birthday wish!
Thank you
on a completely unrelated note to anything so far…did anyone ever see the movie Sweet Sex and Love? I watched it the other night (blushing) and all the while I’m thinking – where do I know that guy from, he seems so familiar? (For anyone who has seen the movie, I’m talking about his FACE)…after it was over I had this wierd urge to watch a bit of Full House. And what do you know, there he was – the second lead!
Of course….not acting quite as…um…naturally as he did in the movie.
Now you’re making me very very curious, JoAnne
Now I’m REALLY blushing.
The movie is about a hook-up that morphs into a relationship but then can’t sustain itself. There’s lots of really graphic intimacy, to the point where I was actually a bit embarrassed even though I was alone in the house.
And then I spent several days thinking of various moments and wondering how actors can bring themselves to be so realistic in that kind of scene with someone they aren’t involved with in real life. Because they went absolutely everywhere with it and short of actual porn, I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything quite so – I don’t know how to put it. Detailed? Graphic? Realistic? All of the above.
Exactly!
I mean, those male actors, don’t they get… you know…umm, bodily reactions and stuff?
I don’t see how there’s any way, in this movie, that some of the stuff they did wasn’t real.
They are giving dedication a whole new meaning.
ricky – I always wonder the same thing. Have you seen Y tu mama tambien? Seriously, I wondered how they made some of those scenes without actually having sexual relations. How do you act when you’re not making those scenes? Even watching kiss scene NGs and making ofs and such, the actors are sometimes embarassed or really just treat it as work. But how do you do that when…um…parts are…ya…
And if Unni is blushing, do I want to see it…*is curious* Like KSS
Maybe the fact that you are surrounded by 15 to 20 people from the staff and a director telling you “put your head this way”, “move a little bit to the right, no wait to the left” can keep you from really getting in the mood.
Raine,
No, I haven’t seen Y tu mama tambien? Is it Spanish? *googles*
Oh wow! Even reading the wikipedia page is making me O_O.
I understand that three**** and kissing occur between both the male leads.
This raises another question. How are they able to portray intense passion during a love scene with a fellow male? Assuming, of course, that they are both straight. Examples are K-Movies such as No Regret, Frozen Flower etc.
It’s hard enough to act in those kind of scenes with an actress and having to control your own umm.. excitement, but having to do it with a fellow man AND having to do it under the watchful eyes of all the production crew? Wow. Actors are amazing!
Ricky – even with that amount of scrutiny I wonder at times. And how do you get over embarrassment? And how do you get yourself to accept a role like that?
zgznoona – I can’t imagine having 20 people watching me naked…
I think you are referring to Kim Sung Soo, who is also the second lead in Bad Love.
Someone once mentioned in this blog site that Korean movies tend to be much more raunchier, as if to make up for the restraint in kdramas, where we often times complain about the awkward kisses (if any kisses occur at all) and how most of the heroines stand stiff as a ramrod with their arms down their sides while being kissed.
I came across some R-rated movies and you will be surprised to see who are appearing in the altogether and featured in elaborate sex scenes (i.e., just this short of showing genitalia) Some notable examples:
Plum Blossom – Kim Rae Won
Summertime – Ryu Soo Yeong
The Intimate/Aein – Jo Dong Hyuk
Yes, that’s his name – I was just really surprised to see someone from such chaste drama in such a not-chaste movie. He actually did the movie first.
Some more suggestions:
Naked Kitchen (Shin Min Ah)
Good Day to have an Affair (Lee Min Ki as a young goofy student)
A Frozen Flower
These movies have some “graphic” moments but not in bad taste. Really enjoyable.
I’ve seen Naked Kitchen – but didn’t know from Shin Min Ah at the time, I was watching because Ju Ji Hoon was in it – I did like the movie very much, and dont remember it being particularly graphic although it was much more sexual than any KDrama I’d seen at the time – I think at that point I’d only seen Goong, Mawang, and maybe part of BOF. Frozen Flower is in the queue anyway but I’d never heard of Good Day before. Isn’t Lee Min Ki the guy in that movie coming out with the girl from Personal Taste?
Yes, that’s the one. I’m actually quite eager to see Chilling Romance.
Plume, I’m really looking forward to it but have no idea how long I’ll have to wait to see it with subs on a decent site, so I’m a little bummed about that.
I just got done with Bu Bu Jing Xin. My first C-drama. Simply a great year for dramas so far. But now what am I going to watch???
I’m currently watching c-drama “Beauty Knows No Pain”. Positively the most stupid drama I’ve ever seen, dunno why I’m still watching it but I guess junk is addictive
. It’s about women working in the beauty industry etc.
I’m enjoying FBRS, buy honestly I don’t get her attraction to Chi Soo. What sane girl would go for someone that obnoxious, over the LOVELY, though very sleepy (which, by the way, is a detail I adore) Kang Hyuk who cooks for her. Give me a man who cooks over an entitled brat any day of the week.
I had this same problem with BOF. I couldn’t for the life of me see how she picked Jun Pyo over Ji Hoo.
Actually, this problem goes all the way back to 1986 when I couldn’t for the life of me understand why Molly Ringwald chose Blaine (“Blaine??!! His name is Blaine!!??”) over Duckie.
LOL! Kiki, would it help you to know that Andie was supposed to end up with Duckie, but they changed it? Also, I completely agree with your BOF assessment. Sometimes I think I got through the whole 24 episodes to watch our secondary couple, and in the vain hope that Jan Di would end up with Ji Hoo. Oh those car crashes…
CMR, after you wrote this I did some research as I was amazed at your revelation.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0091790/trivia?tab=tr&item=tr1331409
Molly Ringwald had her own version of what she believed would happen after the movied ended. Click on the link to see what she said.
p.s. click on the reveal spoilers button for her comments to appear.
Ha! Nice one Ringwald.
Funny that Molly decided that Duckie would have outed himself. Funny b/c while watching Purple Rain all the way through for the first time in years, it struck me how different the standard of masculinity was at the time. Those same guys who were de facto womanizers and top dogs (emphasis on the dogs…ugh!) would be anything but in modern thinking.
Anywho…
Kiki – I totally get you with BoF. But Cha Chi-soo’s advantage is he’s blatantly sexy. He uses sexual energy in a way that GJP would never. And, thus far, its exploring casual relationships and committed relationships. So she’s attracted to him cause damn, when Jung Il-woo pulls you that close with that amount of sexual charm…um, even if you don’t want to, you pay attention…even when he’s not there. But I definitely don’t think she likes him in other other way…yet. Just girls don’t have another head to think with doesn’t mean they always use the head they got….
Ah, see, I think that’s where individual taste comes in. I think Cha Chi Soo is a very pretty boy, but I don’t think he’s sexy. He just seems so *young* and immature to me. Jung Il Woo might be very sexy. I don’t know. Someone meet him and report back to me on that. But the character to me seems like a kid whose playing at sexy, rather than a man who actually is sexy. I spend half the show wanting to kick him in the shins.
Now, Kang Hyuk on the other hand could pull me as close as he wants. Chefs are super sexy (and they know it). The man is an expert in food and sleep, my two favorite things.
I agree with Kiki on this one…I don’t think Cha Chi Soo is compelling as a man at all, but he’s a cute kid. Fun to watch but not sexy. Kang HYUK, on the other hand…that big ol’ lamp post can grab me any day. Love the lazy smile, love the slouchy stance, love that he cooks…love that he’s freaking HUGE.
Unni – I LOVE big guys. And Manly men. Cha Chi-soo is pretty and has sex appeal. But in real life…hmm…me likes ‘em big.
He…he…he…
Oh ya…the chef…I was seriously about to pitch a fit if he didn’t show up soon…and I’m sooo glad he did. I’m actually shippin’ the second lead…again…
But Raine, he can’t really be the second lead…you can’t tell me even in a KDrama that she’s going to end up in a romantic relationship with Cha Chi Soo. It just ain’t gonna happen. She’s ending up with the chef. And I will live vicariously through her…
Scroll up I added to an old conversation…have discovered T.O.P. I mean, I was vaguely aware of him before in the sense that I’m alive and he&
