Oh Happy, Happy Friday!
And belated Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
Oh yeah, and I’m thankful for:
* all the blessings I’ve received
* all the loved ones who surround me
* all the friends I meet
* all the friends I keep
* all the dramas I’ve enjoyed
* all the fun that came along
* all the battles I’ve won
* all the lessons I’ve learned
And I wish for more blessings. For me and for everyone.
*goes to watch FBRS* Ha-ha!
Happy Friday, tOoNsKiE, and Happy Thanksgiving to you as well
Happy belated Thanksgiving! I’m still in bed, recovering from major turkey coma!
I’m sending you good vibes to help with the digestion.
Aja! Aja!
Happy Friday every-one.. n’ Happy Thanksgiving too..
guess most of you are busy with Thanksgiving shopping and dinner..
since I dont live in the US, this is just another working day for me..
anyways, I watched the 1st 8 episodes of FBRS..love the drama, fast-paced, funny and lots of
eye-candy.. cant wait for the next 8 episodes.. though I must say, I thought JIW didn’t seem
that intense(or natural) in the last scene of Epi 8..loved his acting all through, but I thought
he could’ve done a better job in that particular scene(bathroom scene)..
since I’m off my partial-drama break, I think I’ll watch ‘in time with you’ this weekend.
anyone seen it? the premise sounds very interesting..Ariel Lin as a succesful working woman, I need
that after finding her immature and clingy in ISWAK..
and I have a confession to make:i find the alpha-male attractive in the dramas but in real life, i
just dislike and keep away from such kind of guys..anyone else like this or am I the only weirdo here?
@cmrprindle:how r u doing?i took a break from watching dramas just like that.. couldn’t keep away from the recaps
though:)..
I find in real life alpha-male attractive but arrogant, therefore I usually avoid that type. I rather choose a down-to-earth guy that knows his strengths as well as his limits.
I made a big mistake in my 20′s dating an alpha male for way too many years. Thankfully, I came to my senses and married a sweet, gentle guy. We’ve been married a long time and it gets better and better!
now that’s a success story!
lucky girl!!
Happy Friday, luv_KimRaeWon
I am doing well. Happy to have this Thanksgiving hol. Totally needed it.
Since I’m watching waaaaay few dramas, and none of the dramas I’m watching have recaps (at least not here) I find I’m not as interested in recaps in general. What I do read, however, are all the photo shoot posts (the pretty!) and various news posts about upcoming dramas. Especially anything to do with Padam Padam
in time with u started off well but now its boring.
ohh, disapppointed.. had expectations from it
One of my good friends in college was the alpha/arrogant type. I was dating his much nicer/down to earth best friend when we met. The BF and I broke up, but I stayed friends with Mr A. He was a GOOD looking guy and had no shortage of females chasing him. But, he usually chased the few that weren’t. I had to warn him off a couple of my friends, though. I told him that if he was serious that was one thing…if he was gonna play around with them like he did most of the others, I was gonna punch him. He must have decided I was serious, cuz he was very sweet to my girlfriends, lol.
On the other hand, he was handy for scaring off unwanted guys. I worked in a mall in a jewelry store, he worked next door at the shoe store. I had this guy that just wouldn’t go away and my crazy boss thought I should go out with him (customer service!). He was about a foot shorter than me and about 20 years older, so I was disgusted. He would come by almost every day to visit. I’d tried ignoring him, and even being kind of rude (when boss wasn’t watching). One day I went to lunch with Mr A, and when we came back I could see Mr Creepy in the back of the store waiting for me. So we ditched next door, and I called my boss and told him that I wasn’t coming back until he convinced Creepy to go away. He essentially told me to get my butt back to work. So, Mr A says, “Come on, I’ll go with you”. (FYI, Mr A’s real job was a blacksmith…he was seriously built). So he walked me in with his arm around my shoulder, gave me a kiss goodbye and left. Mr Creepy asked a coworker if that was my BF, to which she had the presence of mind to say yes. He never came back again. For which, I made Mr A his favorite peach pie. :0)
Haven’t seen him in 20 years, although I hear he’s still shoeing horses, so he’s probably still in good shape.
You know, in my experience, the ones who THINK they’re the hottest, invariably AREN’T. Mr A was an exception, he was a beautiful boy. I’d be curious to see how he aged….he’d be close to 50 now.
I used to date an alpha male, he was the leader of his group, handsomer than anyone else…but a total two-faced coward. Took years to realize this.
I saw him recently and he gained has some serious weight, he no longer looks like a Greek god
. So the bottom line is, it’s no use if a guy is very handsome in his early twenties if by the beginning of his thirties he’s going to be a big fat couch potato. Right?
What a fantabulous story. I enjoyed myself whilst reading AND imagining Mr. A.
You know, if I can find an old pic…..
He was so cute, he really did have a cute/fun personality when he wasn’t scamming some girl. I loved him, but would have never trusted him as a BF because I knew him too well. His cute/down to earth BFF was a lovely man, and although we broke up, in was amicable…just bad timing. I sort of keep in touch with him, but he says he hasn’t seen Mr A more than once or twice since I have. When I’m home visiting, I see his family’s Ferrier business trucks around, and every once in awhile I think I should stop one and ask about him. I know their
business really picked up once they got a contract for one of the arabian farms in north scottsdale, so he should be doing OK.
oooh….pic….:D It’d be interesting to see how he’s fared over the years. See how he’s settled…or not settled. lol
hmm isn’t this from a sageuk drama? the guy is a blacksmith and the girl is rescued by him after she is harassed by someone who harasses?
Arizona….he was a cocky cowboy, lol. I remember, in the early 80′s he stopped at the mall to see a friend between farms. She saw him and said “What is this? Urban Cowboy?” He said, “Nope, it’s the real thing, still have horseshit on my boots!”. Ha!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Good thing he didn’t go on to become Joseon’s Greatest Blacksmith, or else he would have been forced to hang around with (F-U) Cho Rip!!
Happy Thanksgiving everyone, been a long time away from the OTs but I’m back now.
Welcome back, MsScorpion! Happy Thanksgiving
Despite the chronic lack of time and an irresistible urge to watch Flower Boys Ramyun Shop, I yesterday picked up Me too, flower! and I’m loving it. Despite not really digging Yoon Siyoon’s lipstick shade.
I cried a bit at the end of the episode 2. T__T
Now I’m hooked and I want to see more but I don’t have timeeeeee… Eh.
Those are my 2 favorite dramas at this moment.
I really need the laughs.
Those are my favorites right now too.. sometimes I can go a while without having any dramas I like and sometimes I have so many
me too!..i just picked it up yesterday and now im kind of in love with it…but most of the first episode was spent imagining the awesome it would be with kim jae won *sob…not that yoon si yoon is bad…hes doing a pretty good job but none of the story archs relating to a 30 year old man is believable…but despite all this im digging the tone of the drama and the characters.
I was initially put off with lee jia cast…but im enjoying her character the most at the moment. I never though her and kim jae won would look good together, but after watching this im sure she would have made it work….argh well nothing we can do about that now TT
Happy OT and Friday everybody. I’ll provably won’t stay for long, but at least wanted to say hi.
Feeling kind of down lately and besides FBRS and MTF I’m losing interest in dramas.
I suppose it’ll come back once I star feeling better.
The only good thing coming in my future is that in 2 weeks I’ll be in Spain with my family.
I never thought I would deal this badly with a breakup.
Oh Well…
I hope you all are doing much better
break-ups do bring down most of us.. dont worry.. you’ll
get over it in time and be better for the experience..
yup, watch lots of funny dramas to make u feel better..you can try all kinds when you feel better..
I usually immerse myself in dramas when I’m feeling down. I try the melodramas that make me feel like crying. Usually I never watch these, but when I’m down, fictional peoples misery makes me feel better.
Hope you feel better soon. My last breakup, I didn’t get over it for months, but now I look back and think “what on earth did I see in that guy, in the first place?”
Sapin?? Sounds like major fun ahead
. Bring us some souvenirs
.
Oups Spain. My typing skills are horrible as always…
Break-ups suck but after some years you’ll be happy you’re no longer with the loser. I say that from experience.
Cheer up and look ahead, the sun shines for everyone
.
agree with this.. i’ve seen friends who were down in the dumps after their break-up, but much happier and with a much better and deserving person later.. good luck zgznoona..
Oh, zgznoona! *hugs* luv_KimRaeWon and Plume are right. You’ll get over this and be better for it. Right now, though, there’s nothing wrong with mourning the loss of the relationship. You’ve gotta go through this part to get to the better part, unfortunately. *hugs s’more*
I wish you good luck while healing that broken heart. My friends say, sometimes you have to emo it all out to speed up ‘recovery.’
I dunno, but I think keeping yourself busy with new things/hobbies does the trick.
Probably the best time now for a drama marathon to keep your mind off it.
Or not – depending on the drama.
Aja! Aja!
Yeah… of course I don’t know anything about your particular breakup circumstances, but sometimes the timing is just wrong, or you’re in the wrong emotional place with someone who could potentially be really great, or he’s in the wrong emotional place, or circumstances are just wrong… I don’t know… I guess I’m just saying this because it’s not always the case that you were, per se, wrong for each other, but that the circumstances were just wrong, and that just plain sucks… but what can you do, besides wait out the pain and hope that maybe someday there’ll be someone else…
Espero que te sientas mejor dentro de muy poco. (Haven’t used Spanish for many years… hope I’m still reasonably grammatically correct
)
Thanks Sethe, your Spanish is great.
Actually, my situations was kind of like that. We were in different places emotionally. It’s not that we don’t love each other, or that he didn’t care for me. It’s just that he is not ready for the kind of relationship I want and I got tired of having to deal with a lot of things and forgive a lot of things.
He’ll be a great partner once he is ready to be one.
In the mean time, I have to get over it and find a good guy
He’s out there, and he’ll find you. Or you’ll find him. Either way
I hope so, though at this moment it is hard to believe.
But I know that how a feel now has nothing to do with how I’ll feel after a few months.
Isn’t it crazy and unfun how knowing you’ll feel differently not too long from now seems to do nothing about how you feel right now?
@cmrprindle so true.
Yep… sometimes it’s like that, I guess. The one person who I think could truly have been the love of my life, I met under circumstances that were, well… just wrong for both of us. In the long run, yeah, it’s better not to pursue something that’s clearly not going to go anywhere healthy, but at the time, the feelings are so overpowering… yeah, let me repeat myself, it just sucks…
I wasn’t ready to find a good guy for, well, probably years, but I’m kind of an over-emotional, over-dramatic type, and many people probably wouldn’t have carried on for as long as I did…
(P.S… you’re sweet to say my Spanish is great… like I said, it’s been quite a while.)
So we are two over-dramatic and over-emotional.
Maybe that is why we like dramas.
@zgznoona
We are over-dramatic and over-emotional… yep, totally guilty.
I sometimes truly think watching dramas and reading romance novels spoils me for real life… I want high drama, and passion, and a love to fight/die for, and all that… and today’s world just doesn’t seem to offer that… what’s a woman who’s immersed herself in romance novels and dramas to do?
@Sethe,
actually I think I am realistic in terms of love, never look for Mr. Perfect. Maybe that is the problem. I should be more demanding and less understanding
Hmm it sounds to me like your guy wasn’t really ready to settle… or something of that kind. Yeah it’s sad to see a long-term relationship and yes, the perspective of being single is really frightening, but at least whatever he lacks in won’t be able to hurt you any more.
I’ve been through this and it was horrible but at least now I can lead my life in whatever direction i want, without having to please anyone else or compromise.
I’m in my mid-twenties and some people already look at me as they would doubt I’ll ever get to marry since I ditched an apparently “perfect” boyfriend, but I’m happy as I am and I’m sure that at some point in this life (or another one
) I’ll find my true mate. Not that I believe in fairy tales… Jane Austen, where are you?
Thank you luv_KimRaeWon, aoiaheen, Plume, cmrprindle, tOoNsKiE.
I know it is for the better that is over. But after being on and off for 6 years, I suppose it is going to take some time to get over it.
I think the bigger issue for me is that I have to rearrange my life now, since there were so many plans and dreams built around the relationship.
That is the tougher part, and the feeling that I’m in my mid-thirties and feel like I have to start over with my life.
Plume, about my trip to Spain, I usually go once a year to see my family. Only this year I really need all their love and care more than I usually do.
Wow, I never thought I would talk so much about my self here. But it kind of helps, since I’ve been keeping this from my people because I didn’t want to worry them.
Thanks again
*hugs* Cry it out now, but keep in the back of your mind, maybe a month from this day, two months from this day…a year from this day, a bit of happiness will find you. it is something to look forward to. Then cry again – this time happy tears because you’re feeling lucky to have gotten out of a relationship that wasn’t working work.
Thanks for the hugs I really need them.
You’re welcome.
A fresh start can be an exciting thing. Scary, but exciting.
I think you shouldn’t worry much about what your loved ones or friends will say about what happened. Sometimes, when we’re in an emotional pothole, we tend to underestimate the capacity of people’s hearts to embrace.
And better that it happens in your mid-thirties than staying in a rocky relationship all your life. Many people who mean to have a restart, but are too scared to go for it, get stuck in such situation for life. I think you’re lucky. More than that, I think you’re brave.
That’s true, though I feel kind of old now and I know is not the end, I feel it kind of is at this moment.
But you guys are so great that I’m feeling a little bit better just but letting it out here.
I believe in ‘venting’ and just getting everything out. The pain is there and time won’t pass any faster, but you get your issues out where you can see them, you can have someone on the outside to bounce ideas, thoughts and emotions off of and its nice to just let is all out!
I went through a LOT this year and without those people who just listened to me, I think I would still be where I was. I’m glad you found them here:D Not only do k-dramas rock our worlds, but they bring lovers together not only for drama related things.
That’s true Raine.
But I always feel kind of uncomfortable if I talk too much a bout my personal life. I feel I’m bothering people. I yet I made a small comment just o explain maybe why I don’t feel too much like watching dramas, and you guys have been so great and supportive.
You just to have to test the waters to see if people are receptive. Most people are. We are social creatures by nature. Both talking and listening are things we are (should) be good at. At least here you have kindred spirits who really do exemplify that part of human nature, ya?
Lots of hugs for you, and a visit with family always helps me.
Hope you feel better soon, and there is a guy out there for you somewhere. You’ll find him when you’re both ready. :0)
Un abrazo. Un abrazototototote! Ojalá que te sientas mejor pronto!
De dónde eres en España?
Muchas gracias.
Mi nombre lo dice zgz (Zaragoza)
De dónde eres?
guess I can’t call you Zigzynoona in my head anymore…
<3 and hugs to my S. Fl buddy. Have fun in Espagna. Lose yourself! Let your heart feel what it needs to feel.
Thanks
In a few days I’ll do my best and try to get all the love and comfort for those who know me the best
Morning! Happy friday, happy thanksgiving! I’m glad jb did Series review of the princess’s man, I started watching it last week and I like it a lot so far. I’m not going to read the review until I finish, but I’m excited for that. It might take a while because of all the shows I’m currently watching though. I used it like I was using protect the boss before, watching episodes when there are no new episodes of my current shows.
I meant to comment previously on protect the boss… Did people like that show? I loved it. The extension did slow it down a little at the end, but I stil liked it a lot, I didn’t think the conflict was too convoluted or anything, and the chaebol family was always a hoot I thought. It was a really cute show.
I still haven’t finished, queencircles, but I totally loved Protect the Boss. I think you’ll find that it had a rabid following on the OT! And most people also feel as you do, that the extension brought it down. I think I agree with an assessment that AhjummaBunny made a while ago, though, that the more serious turn it took near the end felt like a natural progression of the show and not so much like they threw it in b/c they absolutely had to find filler for the extension. It does bring the show down from its happy place, but, b/c I presume it gets happier again, it makes you appreciate the giddiness when it comes back.
I totally agree with that assessment. I thought everything seemed really natural and the conflict wasn’t just a filler conflict.
I really want to watch PTB too.
I’m so happy and angry that JB published her review. I’m trying to write one myself and I KNOW if I read hers I’ll be totally biased because she’s such a convincing writer. Now I have to get off my butt and do it so that I can read hers…how’s THAT for motivation.
Anyway, please let me know how you liked TPM because I was seriously head-over-heels in love. (And not just cause of PSH, although he was the main reason I watched it in the first place.)
Hello dear OT-friends!
I’m finally over with med school, I’m officially a doctor. I’m really thankful for that, can’t wait to start working!
Currently watching Zettai Kareshi – and loving it. I’m curious how the Korean version is going to be.
I saw yesterday in a local shop some products made in Korea. Guess what. Those sheet-facemasks everyone seems to use in the dramas. Didn’t buy any though, because I don’t believe in face-masks
.
How’s everyone doing? Any holiday plans?
wow..congrats..good luck for the specialisation or job
Thanks! I’ll only start in January so plenty of time for dramas till then
.
Happy Weekend, Plume, and CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I know how much work that’s been for you!
So proud
Congrats!!!
Holiday plans include packing up, leaving the city, and going back to my hometown to spend it with my folks.
Aaand before I do that, setup the Christmas decorations at work. Cuz I’m always in charge of that. I’m still thinking of a theme, though. I wonder if an Angry Birds theme would be appreciated.
Oh, and I almost forgot… (sorry)
Congrats, Dr. Plume!
Angry Birds? Like… Hitchcock’s Birds? Wow that’s original, I’m sure they would appreciate it
.
I’d like a whimsical Christmas theme, something in the Lewis Carroll style… makes me dreamy.
OMG, PLUME,
Congratulations!
I have a friend who is just starting Med School and it is kicking her butt. I don’t know you, but I am very very proud!
Thank you Jomo!
Wish your friend good luck and strength!
do you mean you don’t believe face-masks work?
Yep, i usually say “i don’t believe in” just for fun.
I think skin-care is more about giving skin what it really needs and skipping the unnecessary irritants, alcohol and fragrance that facepacks sold in shops usually contain. I’m otherwise a big cosmetics-junkie.
Congrats Plume! I toyed with the idea of med school a few years ago but decided to leave it to my more science-minded brother, so props to you for sticking it out.
What kind of medicine are you planning on going into?
I’m going to be a cardiologist, that was my dream for ages
.
Wow… congratulations! I know firsthand how… well… stressful and painful it is to get through med school, so you have my total admiration. Not sure where you’re from… do you have a residency/post-graduate training lined up?
I’m from Romania but I’m moving to Germany soon for the residency. At least for 6 years, hopefully.
My med school best friend was from Romania! Small world, huh?
What are you planning to specialize in?
It really is a very small world! I always hear about Romanians in most surprising places in the world, last time I even heard about a small Romanian community in Argentina. Wow.
I’ll specialize in Cardiology, my fave
.
Also, one of the most beloved and respected attending physicians at my med school (for outside rotations) was a VA (Veterans Administration) doctor from Romania… he had experienced serious persecution in Romania before he came to the US… and, well, I guess his approach is best summed up by one of my classmates who said, “He has a low tolerance for nonsense.”
If he was persecuted then it means he really was elite in Romania before he moved to US…
Lots of Romanians left the country during the communist period and some of them really made it in the US. It was nice for me to discover that quite well-known American brands like Mario Badescu or Anastasia of Beverly Hills or Jessica (nail-grooming stuff) were founded by Romanians.
Cluj is an academic city so it’s pretty lively because of the large number of students. Just ask your friends show you the places young people go to. Clubs, cafes, you know what i mean. For real tourist attractions you’d have to leave the city and visit some other places in Transylvania.
Your English is spectacularly good
And congrats, Doc!
Oh (blushes) thank you
.
Second that!
I’m planning a trip to Romania in January, to see a Romanian friend of mine in Cluj. Superexcited because a) haven’t been to Romania before and b) haven’t seen my friend in three years.
Where in Romania are you from?
From Cluj!!
Need any travel advice? I’m here for you!
Thanks for offering. I’m totally leaving it up to my friend (also in part because she is taking care of her father who is quite ill… so there might not be much flexibility in terms of travelling). Anything you’d recommend I see in Cluj itself?
Just ask her to show you the places (cafes, clubs) where the young people go. Cluj is an academic city so it’s usually pretty lively. It might be very cold in January… but if you have the possibility, do go outside Cluj to see the real tourist attractions of Transylvania
. How long are you going to stay in Romania?
Not too long. I’m planning 5 days to a week. (I’m stopping by Budapest for 2 days on the way.)
I don’t mind the cold, especially if there is snow
Hopefully I’ll have some sort of decent digital camera by then to take pics with (will bring my film camera, but I always take forever to develop film for lack of time and money).
Congratulations! It’s great you are moving to Germany, life in our dear little country is too hard (I’m from Romania, too,) so have a nice life there.
Maybe I just need a change of environment, I don’t know… Living to many years in the same place makes me want to get out and see the world
.
Which part of Romania are you from?
I’m from Bucharest. I’ve never been to Cluj but I heard it’s a beautiful city.
I’ve been twice to Bucharest but always with business so I missed the best parts of it… Too big to see in one day!
Can you believe it that I’ve lived here my whole life and I still haven’t seen Casa Poporului? Bucharest is too big and dirty for my taste.
I did visit the Parliament and Cotroceni Palace but I didn’t get to see the old Bucharest. I heard it’s charming…
Congratulations. Now you deserve a good break and lots of dramas to celebrate.
Funny thing is, I never got myself to watch a drama about doctors, and there’s plenty of them. I like dramas about people at work though. I’m especially fascinated with people working in creative fields.
Provably if you watch a drama about doctors you will be pulling your hairs out thinking how ridiculous it is.
I’m not a doctor and I have felt that way when watching medical dramas.
I tried to watch one episode of Grey’s Anatomy but that was it. I just wasn’t interesting in watching people getting stressed in hospital while I had already spent the day getting stressed doing that. They are sometimes a bit ridiculous, I admit. Anyway, doctors in dramas are too beautiful to be true
.
Ah, do vet-med dramas count? I enjoyed once one with Shun Oguri. So funny to see him performing surgery on a hamster! :
juui doolitle with narimiya hiroki!?? I haven’t seen it, but I considered watching it because I was charmed by hiroki san but he’s not the lead is he? how is he?
He’s there, and he’s handsome but he’s not the lead. The lead is Shun Oguri (Rui from Hana Yori Dango). And the girl is Makino from Hana YD.
You can watch one or two episodes to figure out if you like stories about animals. The drama doesn’t really have a plot. Each episode has a little story about a pet and an owner and a fact about life. I personally enjoyed it, it’s not your regular drama about romance, lies and mothers in law.
Congrats!! Going through medical school and the whole doctor route is so stressful – physically and emotionally- I always feel grateful that there are people out there who are willing to step up to the plate!
CONGRATS, Dr. Plume! And, your English is really good, I’d have never guessed you weren’t a native English speaker.
I like my cardiologist. He’s from India, and from what I can tell so far he has absolutely no sense of humor. My husband and I get a kick out of attempting to make him laugh, but no go so far, lol. He always just looks at us like we’re certifiable. He is however, absolutely no nonsense, and I do like that.
Thanks, I’ve been studying English since early childhood but I only started to like it in my late teens, when I discovered that English novels are more interesting when read in original. For a non-native speaker, learning English is a life-long process…
Your cardiologist is the very committed type I guess, and that’s very good for your heart.
I’m no nonsense about work too. I think it’s cultural in my case. It makes us seem unfriendly. My friend is always hearing that in reviews. I usually agree with how she interacts with others because it’s work, but she suffers poor thing.
Ahjummabunny, which is your cultural background exactly?
I’m guyanese- post colonial english. very victorian, very late 50′s to early 60′s american culture. I live in the us and I haven’t managed to acquire enough us culture and when I attempted to, I chose late 40′s to early 60′s because it made more sense.
Random thought… Isn’t it kind of amazing how at this forum we have people from all over the world, with all different cultural backgrounds and native languages, coming together to comment on Korean dramas in English?
(I feel like a Hallmark card or something… I think Thanksgiving has made me a little sappy
)
Hi Sethe…haven’t seen any comments from you about your honey. Has he fallen out of grace with you?
Hi Shel!
No, I still love my Mitt
Despite what the media says about him, despite the ugly plaid shirts he wears to try to look like the “average Joe,” despite his awkward attempts to bond with voters, despite his transparent pandering to whichever constituency is most likely to elect him… I still love him
I guess I’m just trying (belatedly) to refrain from making political comments on a site where that’s not really the agenda. Plus, I’m a little preoccupied with my current real-world crush on a co-worker… seems like there’s real potential there, but anything in the workplace is dicey, so I’m being very cautious…
And now that you’ve gotten me started, can I just say, Newt Gingrich over my love?!?!? Really?!?!?
Newt Gingrich is one of the most mean-spirited and hypocritical politicians (and people, frankly) I’ve ever seen in my life, and yet he’s Republicans’ top choice for President?!?!?!? (One of my favorite quotes regarding Gingrich comes from Paul Krugman, who cited someone else saying that Gingrich is “the stupid person’s idea of how a smart person talks.”)
What are people thinking? Do they not remember the ’90s?
My love (Mitt Romney, for those of you who don’t know) is an intelligent, knowledgeable, competent, and sane person, which puts him head and shoulders above the rest of the current Republican field… do Republicans really want to nominate a clown, ignoramus, fool, or jackass? Seriously?!?!?
Newt’s an idiot….for the rest of this comment, see #52 where it posted when I tried to reply. Stupid computers. ;0)
Why doesn’t anyone ever compliment my English?
Hmmmmm…………………..maybe because it is my first language?……………..OK, then.
Jomo, your vocabulary is broad and I particularly like the way you use ellipses…
You do, too. Thank you!!!!!
Congrats! What a big thing to achieve! So much hard work, and surely a lot of long hours and sleep deprivation!
CONGRATS!
CONGRATULATIONS! That’s really amazing, Plume. And Cardiology? Someone like you helped out my brother when he was fainting and we didn’t know why. We are forever grateful to cardiologists!
I love the interests that doctor’s have (yes, you are now lumped in with all those practicing doctors out there!) One example is my piano teacher’s husband who is a neurosurgeon. He also plays the oboe in an amateur orchestra! He’s always traveling for conferences and surgeries, but he still plays in an orchestra and keeps up his chops!
I don’t believe in facemasks as my skin is SUPER sensitive, even to the hard water we have here.
Anyway, congratulations, congratulations!
(And yes, your English is super good.)
Oboe? That suddenly reminded me about the grandpa in Beethoven Virus
.
I’ve noticed too that top doctors have hobbies besides their work. I’m not good at anything else except for using my brain and maybe, but just maybe, cooking, so I mainly spend my free time reading about things outside medicine.
Is it only water making you trouble? I am prone to allergies and for a long time I had no idea what was triggering them. Some of the chemicals and plant extracts in cosmetics caused me some terrible rashes, but it was hard to identify which one exactly I am allergic to. So far I only know I can’ tolerate chemical sunscreens (oxybenzone, octocrylene..). Reading the label is the best thing we can do for our skin, wish I’d known this earlier…
I don’t use any product on my face…except make up. Haha. I’m a label reader cause I do it with food. HF corn syrup makes me really sick. And then when you buy foods with ingredients you can pronounce and you feel better…well, you stop buying crap.
And this neurosurgeon does remind me of the old oboe player from BV! It’s funny because most musicians have personalities that match their instruments. I can always tell a singer, a brass player, a jazzer, always. Always. Haha. Sopranos and violinists are special breeds of human beings all on their own. kekeke
Med school and u had time to watch dramas?! I commend you. I was pre-med since I was interested in the sciences, but I figured I wasn’t passionate enough to continue down that path, plus my awful MCAT scores for not studying as much as I should… so it went downhill from there.
Anyways, Congratulations Doctor! Residency will probably be hell but exciting at the same time! Come to the US if u get a chance.
Actually everyone I know in med school watches some sort of series or drama, be it Dr. House, The Bing Bang Theory or Gossip Girl. No sane person can spend his/her whole life only working or studying
I know there are exceptions, but most of us like to relax once in a while too. I discovered Asian dramas one year ago when I just wanted to try something new.
I heard residency is really tough in the States… Here in Europe it’s not easy either and the salary is not that great in the beginning but I think the level of stress seems to be slightly lower. Probably because we don’t have those atrocious student loans and the healthcare system is different…
I’d love to visit the US as a tourist, it’s such an amazingly diverse country!
speaking of grandpas- did you take thundie’s -est quiz?? It was soo hard!
I truly think that much of medical practice in the US revolves around “medicolegal reasons.” I mean that we learn in med school that more is better, right? If you aren’t sure whether to admit a patient or not, if you’re not sure whether to do a procedure or not — you’ll do it, to be on the safe side, in case you’ll get sued for not doing it.
That is, truthfully, the predominant ethos in US hospitals these days, and undoubtedly contributes much to the skyrocketing cost of healthcare in the US today. Obviously, all these procedures cost money, and obviously someone pays for them… if it’s not the patient, presumably, it’s the taxpayer.
Now, I’m completely for citizens’ taxes going to subsidize the health and welfare of others, but I truly wish the prevailing ethos in health care delivery could be changed.
Sadly it’s becoming the same everywhere… Our health system here is in collapse, for the same reason. The limited number of contributors cannot sustain the huge expenses, and each time a doctor is supposedly mistaken, a whole media scandal explodes. It’s like witch hunt, but for doctors.
Congrats!
Happy TGIF!
I’m waiting for TWDT to be subtitled at viki so I can watch it!!!
Been helping segmenting a few dramas there also.
It’s gonna be fun!
Hi everyone! Happy Thanksgiving for all those who celebrate it
Happy Thanksgiving, NKB
cmrprindle – I nominated you for an award on my site:D I saw some people already clicked on the link to your site!
Hello guys! Happy friday!
I’ve found my perfect guy… Tai Hee from Ojakgyo brothers. How can a guy be so sweet, so vulnerable and so sexy all at the same time. added advantage, he’s not a chaebol.
A good week for me, since I just heard that Yoo Seung Ho is cast in the korean version of operation love, the boy who played young Dong Soo in WBDS is cast in Moon embraces Sun thingy and Dec21(when I get to see JCW in veggie store) is coming closer.
Isn’t life just amazing?
It’s the little things…
Hey A!
Did I already tell you I am making tshirts?
Una Lives!
and
F*&& You, Cho-rip!
I wanted the Una Lives one to have an image of him against a night sky with a big moon behind him, but I am having trouble finding the right photo of him with the right expression.
I’m buying!!!
what expression are you looking for…happy? smiling? crazy-in-unrequited-love?
I wanted a happy face – calm – like he is where he is supposed to be.
I can’t remember any time in the drama where he looked at peace.
Have you seen this website?
http://dongsooslashyeoun.tumblr.com/
It has amazing gifs of the both of them.
I want to see pics of those shirts. I’m sure they’ll be so cool
LOL great minds think alike — I threw this together in a tryptophan-induced stupor last night. NSFW, chingus!
http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc405/CherKell1/744a1745.jpg
OMG cherkell!!! That’s so perfect!
Perfect perfect perfect!
I think I read your post TP and that inspired me to do shirts.
I love the idea that there are prolly less than 500 people in the world who would get it.
LOL
That feels so good
though the rational part of me feels bad for the actor who played the role
I know! I was just thinking the same thing. I hate that guy, and all because he followed the directions of the writer.
aoiaheen -
After a very stressful week, I spent a couple hours on tumbler a couple Saturdays ago*, just crying and crying at the photos of those two.
It was not this one, so now I have another place to go.
(*Speaking of using drama watching as catharsis…)
I can make you cry again, if it helps….
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddwHMnCvCUI&feature=colike
I watched this MV so many times and it still makes me feel heavy in the heart.
Thank you, aoiaheen.. I think.
I watched this about ten times before falling asleep last night, sobbing.
So what was it, exactly, that made the two’s story so compelling? Am I so shallow that it is their beauty, or can I give the writers, actors and director credit for building a world where their friendship is sooooo real and soooo heartbreaking?
The Duo also had an affect on me, but not like this.
Sandglass, otoh, definitely did hit me deep in the heart, too.
Jomo – I’ve been wondering that myself. This isn’t the first time i’ve watched a movie/drama where brothers/friends end up on opposite sides. But this is the first time I was so invested in thier relationship. I wonder if I would have felt the same way if Una hadn’t died the way he did. I wonder if I would have forgotten the drama by now, if Una had somehow lived and ridden off into the sunset with JS or GH or even alone.
It’s his death that makes me feel so sad when I watch videos like these. The way DS closed his eyes knowing he would be killed yet not wanting to kill Una and then his expression when he realized what Una had done.
The writers really knew how to make the love between the two so believable, even with the so obvious conflicts. But I think it’s the actors whose chemistry is so strong and who nailed every scene between the two of them. They were so natural in every scene that it felt that they truly felt the way thier characters did.
when you say operation love are you talking about proposal daisekuesen? I loooove that show. I think it is uniquely japanese and would fail as a korean drama. I’d love to be proven wrong. Speaking of Japanese dramas, ramyun shop reminds me very much of a japanese drama.
Yup, it proposal daikusen. I have to watch it, even though I’m a yamapi fan. Guess what I’ll be doing this weekend?
Which jdrama does ramyun shop remind you off?
at first just japanese dramas in general and then of yankee kun to megane chan specifically. But I don’t watch korean high school dramas. Also japanese dramas usually have a bit more fantasy to them- overt fantasy and in moments there those elements in ramyun shop.
Proposal Daikusen SQUEEEEEEEEEEE! I haven’t watched that in ages… I have the DVDs here somewhere… ::tearing up apartment:: Yamapi-kun!! I might have to forgo sleep and watch a few eps over the weekend now.
I don’t see the word FAIL anywhere near this project — with Yoo Seung Ho attached to it, I can’t see how this cannot be anything but awesome thanks to the major love he’s received because of WDBS. I am totally looking forward to him taking this on… and not having an unrequited love fixation over a cardboard cutout ever again!!
@cherkell.
I’m so looking forward to this too. He had chemistry even with the cardboard cutout, so with a good actress he’d be awesome.
I hope they cast someone closer to his age though. I wonder if they’ll cast Ji Hyeon from T-ara. I love her.
@ahjummabunny. I see what you mean. I just marathoned Proposal Daisekusen and there is a slight exaggeration to everything that makes it above ordinary.
I really loved the beginning but towards the end I was like “Geez! just together already!”
I hope YSH is able to make the role his own. Yamapi was just amazing as Ken that I can’t see anyone else playing the role.
Totally there with you as to the OB’s 3rd son. I started watching OB got bored then went back to it around Ep. 20. Now totally there:)
I am loving Me too, Flower! right now. Even more than Ramyun Shop. Yoon Shi Yoon is doing a great job. Fun banter between him and Lee Jia.
Ramyun Shop gets too manic for me sometimes. Chi Soo creeps me out a little, too. Anyone else find his behavior disturbing sometimes? I was honestly a little scared for Eun-bi during the last part of the latest episode. o_O
That said, Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Shopping on this Black Friday (if you’re into that)!
so many positive responses to MTF.. I’ll wait till atleast half the episodes have been aired.. otherwise the wait’ll be too agonising for the impatient me..
Yeah, I feel it is taking forever for the subs to come out. But hey! I shouldn’t complain since at least someone is doing the great job of subbing this drama.
I love Me too Flower too! It’s even edging out Tree With Deep Roots for me. It’s up there with City Hunter with the whole “it’s going to mediocre at best!” before I even start it to “omg, this is amazing!” when the story gets going. YSY is doing a great job (though I hate his chaebol outifts and styling), but Lee Ji Ah is the one really catching my eye and getting me to really invest in her character, Bong-sun, and in the story.
wow finally found guys who luv MTF. i think its more addicting tan glory jane.
Definitely! And, it is only at ep 6!
I hate his chaebol hair. It sometimes reminds me of Herbie the Dentist from RtRNR!
Herbie Hair
Happy OT!
I can’t get over how much I love TWDR (Tree With Deep Roots). Every episode leaves me wondering how they are going to keep up the awesomeness. The story, the acting…everything. So far, it is one of my favorites of all time.
I am also watching Man of Honor (aka Young Love Jae in) and really enjoying it. Anyone else out there watching it? The father is so evil, I can’t wait to see him brought down. And PIE is just so PIE. I want to kiss his cheeks!
Anyone catch episode 11 of The Musical? What is up with the new girl? She’s already hitting on our Hong Jae Yi (not that I could blame her!) The character is moving so fast it seems like the writers decided that now was the time to add a romantic rival and threw her in there.
I hope everyone has a great weekend!
The Musical. GAH! I am getting pretty frustrated with it. Why is a drama named ‘The Musical’ hardly about the musical in question, set aside the fact that there is hardly any music in the show anymore? And where is this drama going? What is the central issue of this show that can be resolved within the next five episodes? I am about thisclose to dropping that drama and picking up something else – Me Too, Flower is looking a lot better to me right now.
ohh, you have put me off this drama now..
does ‘The Musical’ have cute and romantic scenes?if yeah, i’ll give it a go..
TWDR – awesome awesome and awesome!
I am waiting for recap here even though I watched them already.
I also like Man of Honor with big birth secrets.
and Me, too flower is ok (if mis casting is ignored).
The Musical is so-so. Wish they have more song and dance, and sorry but I am not fan of GHS. She was so good in King’s Woman (was it?). What happened to her?
Happy Friday
Happy Open thread.
I too would think the new girl was moving fast–but I buy it because she and Jae-Yi went to high (?) school together. She played in the school orchestra that he conducted, and they had run into each-other when they were abroad. It just took a while for him to remember who she is.
I think he was always someone she was interested in but he hardly noticed her and when he did he only saw her as a friend.
I think she sees her chance and is reaching for it with both hands.
I buy it.
Daniel Choi?? I’d go for it in a heartbeat if I was her. :0)
I’m enjoying Man of Honor/Young Love a lot. Of course, PIE is so darned cute, but I like PYM, too. That Dad, though, I wanna take a baseball bat to him. He better get what’s coming to him in the end. And I don’t mean death by heart-attack, either.
The Musical is frustrating me a bit, too. I love Daniel Choi, but I’m not a GHS fan. And I don’t feel any real chemistry between them. I’m actually kind of rooting for the new girl, but I don’t think it’s gonna happen.
Currently hooked on Man of Honor as well. For some reason, I find Hong Joo very amusing even if she’s a complete b*tch to Jae In. PMY is amazing as Jae In. Stll haven’t seen eps 13 & 14. I wonder why it’s taking so long for subs to come put.
Aside from Man of Honor, I’m also enjoying A Thousand Days’ Promise since I happen to be a huge sucker for angst.
I love TWDR too! It’s awsome! every episode pulls you in more and more. (sigh) I’m just so impatient when waiting for it to get sub. LOL
Is MOH really good? I haven’t been watching it yet but if enough people like it in here, I may watch it later on.
Musical? Ahh, that one is frustrating! I watched it Raw and didn’t understand anything. LOL but I didn’t like it that the two lead couldn’t reach each other because of misunderstanding. I Hope it gets better soon or lead the to character to each other. The romance just seem not to be there for any of them anymore? Blah! But I will watch until the end…
It must be a holiday if my post is somewhere in the upper tens instead of the lower thirties…
Happy Thanksgiving, American OT! Happy Friday/Weekend, everyone! I have the day off (woohoo) which means I get to do housework! Yeah!
I’m only being half sarcastic, here
As a matter of fact, after I post this, I am off to do my hair (takes about 1hr30m total) which will be the perfect time to watch Twinkle Twinkle. Yes I’ve been watching it forever. It feels like a year, but it can’t have been that long, can it? I’m downloading Return of Iljimae, which I started way back when, and Gumiho: Tale of the Fox’s Child, but I plan to watch Zenkai Girl or some other j-drama next. After all this twinkling, I think I want something with 10 eps or less.
How was everyone’s holiday? Happy, restful and full of family I hope.
No news worth reporting on the personal front…which is typical. lol. Oh! For anyone who was interested, the bit of a NaNo novel that I got written before I changed tracks will be posted some time today, fingers-crossed, and I’ll start posting my essays if not today then this weekend.
hi cmrprindle..how r u doing?
in answer to last week’s Q(saw it only the next day):
i took a break from watching dramas just like that.. couldn’t keep away from the recaps
though:)..
And my reply to you is up above, lol! We keep missing each other
i saw it too late:)
Time to see some movies then?
I’ve watched quite a bunch lately but none was as good or entertaining as a nice drama. Except for (maybe) a j-movie I watched and still keeps me thinking about it. It’s called “My Rainy Days”, you can find it on doramax.
Any news about HSG??
Le sigh…no real news about HSG. I scared him half to life on Weds, though. I was literally running around trying to get this package together to send to my boss before the FedEx guy left. HSG stepped into the hall between the copy machine/printer and my office wanting to help, which was fantastic of him. But then he kept standing there watching me. Then I nearly ran him over trying to get back to my space. He jumped out of the way and kinda yelped, I think. :-/
I was hoping to get a hug out of him before he left for the long weekend, but we’re working on it, we’re working on it
Thanks for asking Plume.
What’s “My Rainy Days” about? I’ve been trying asian movies lately, but have only watched Aladin, an Indian movie (fun!).
It’s a japanese movie that has most of the motifs of japanese manga/dramas/movies. Lots of cliches I would say, but the overall result is good in my opinion and it wasn’t so predictable as most movies. It’s about a school girl (not a regular one!) that falls in love with her teacher who has a terminal disease.
I also watched the korean movie “The Classic”! Now I understand why it’s a classic.
Recommended.
A male friend said that k-movie “More Than Blue” was the only movie that made him cry but I couldn’t find that one…
Thanks for the synopsis, Plume! Onto the queue it goes
after I post this, I am off to do my hair (takes about 1hr30m total) which will be the perfect time to watch Twinkle Twinkle
Please be very careful if you’re using one of those heat-emitting hairstyling things. Oh you multi-tasker noona. Somehow, you make me think about Oska.
Otherwise, enjoy the viewing!
I know! How dangerous would that have been, tOoNsKiE! It’s a largely heat-free process, but I’ve still done stupid stuff while watching dramas and doing my hair :s You’d think I’d learn.
Hey CMR!
You are still watching TT? I skipped the middle and went to the last 2?
Tell me what you think!
Maybe I’ll have to do so, I stopped at 34 and thought on not going back to it. But I always feel kind of regretful if I don’t finish a drama.
I suppose I’ll watch the final 2 or so.
zgznoona, I have a whole handful of dramas I never quite finished: Protect the Boss, The Greatest Love and Scent of a Woman. :-/ I know why I’ve been avoiding SOAW, but PTB and TGL? I’ve no idea what’s up with me.
I finished all those, but I have to confess that I didn’t really feel like watching the final episode of any of them. Strange, I think that the fact that I had already read the recaps and knew how they ended had to do with that.
I am still watching…almost done, thank God. It’s been an interesting road/journey/thing into the land of maekjang, but, y’know, it’s still great writing. In certain ways the plot has ceased to make sense overall (did Editor Song’s mom really have to be a cutthroat loan shark w/half of Korea’s powerful people in the palm of her wrinkly hand? really show? b/c it wasn’t interesting when she held the lives and happiness of 3 people in her wrinkly hand?) but the writers remember that Editor Song used to be an investigative journalist. They bring back old characters and use them well. The don’t forget that Kang Dae Bum has a family elsewhere, or that he has a little baby that the poor family loves dearly. And the writing….the actual writing itself still sometimes just moves me with its beauty. Serendipity is often the main translator, and s/he just gives us these lovely turns of phrases.
So I’m not happy where TT went overall. It doesn’t feel as natural as the emotional downturn of Protect the Boss, but it’s still suckers me in. I still yell at the freaking screen. At least Geum Ran has, almost overnight but not quite so much, become a better person. I was ready to strangle the Show if she somehow stayed a horrible wretch and got any of the guys.
One thing I do hate about the show, is how people get and/or accept blame for things that are tacitly not their fault. Like, not at all. Jung Won is blamed for her relationship issues even though she fights like mad to keep things together most of the time. Poor Mom blames herself for going blind and being a burden to her children. Et cetera.
And here I thought I had no more TT treatise in me. lol!
hello. enjoy your weekend and day off!
hihi, Jumma! Thank you kindly. How are you doing?
I’m at work, there’s nothing but ridiculous meetings ( teamwork! teamwork! teamwork!) and some idiot keeps calling me and cussing at me as an expression of outrage at my company. I missed lunch today I’m the only one without turkey leftovers and I’m wishing now I didn’t tell my sister not to make a big dinner and that I had a hankering for something specific to eat. She was very cross with us and went out to eat by herself and didn’t bring leftovers.
we’re only off when the stock market is closed- 9 days out of the year and vacation. I’m no longer the maknae but I still don’t qualify to request vacation during the holidays as requests are granted based on seniority.
Sounds rough, Jumma. I’m guessing you really prize your days off. Years ago my mom worked in a seniority based vacation requesting place, but she could often get around it by asking for vacay extremely early. Like she would have asked for the day after Thanksgiving for 2012 today. Is that something that could work for you?
Hi, cmr! Have a great weekend. I should probably clean house, too, but I don’t think it’s gonna happen. It was a cold, windy Thanksgiving, but today is sunny and hubby has the day off. Not up to much yet, but we may go for a drive up the coast.
Eh, post-hair I got as far as the bathroom. My bedroom is next. We’ll see when that actually happens.
Have fun with your hubby, Shel! Might as well enjoy the nice weather while it lasts, right
Yay! Your writing!
How are you getting your hair done? A friend of mine has 3 or 4 hour stints at the salon but her hair looks amazing after that.
Whoo-hoo, writing posting!
I’m downloading RoIljimae too. And Kimi wa Petto. I’ve seen it 100x but I really love it. I’m scared to watch the film.
I’ve heard mixed things about Kimi wa Petto, Raine, so I’ve been afraid to try it, lol.
As for my hair, I wash it then while it’s wet I do something like cornrows but with two-strand twists instead of braids. Later I’ll take it out and my hair will look like it’s naturally corkscrew-curly. Unless it gets humid o.O Right now my hair looks something like this but not nearly as light or neat. Her hair is meant to be worn as a style. Mine is meant to be slept in! Again, not my hair color, but this is basically what it will look like when I take it out. If the picture on my blogsite were better, you’d see how I normally wear my hair. If I did a really, really good job it looks more like Corrine Bailey Rae but without the length (right color, though
)
Argh with the bad formatting! Forgot to close a tag somewhere between the first “this” and the second “this” in that uber-long link.
It’s okay, I have NO skillz in the code department whatsoever. I like the corkscrew look! (And CBR’s singing…:D) One of my students just got twisty cornrows and she looks so adorable! I think her parents are Jamaican and Haitian and that mix makes her and her little brother just the most beautiful kids (the parents are beautiful too!) That and she has long arms and fingers which are PERFECT for cello.
Anyway, you should show me when you’re done! I need to get my haircut because I look like a shaggydog with my bangs really long…haha.
Kimi wa Petto…I love JGS (I can’t help it) but…*crosses fingers*
I’m in the midst of reading your NaNoWrimo blog entry. I’ll comment soon!
The first time I’m actually on time
My week off for Thanksgiving break is nearly over now, and haven’t watched many dramas T__T I want to watch FBRS, but I’m saving that for a marathon
(I’ve learned my lesson too many times from watching airing dramas to feel withdrawal every week keke)
I was like that with City Hunter. I would go crazy when Thursdays episode was over and then I would refresh the subs page until it posted!
Happy Friday and Happy Shopping Day!
I hope everything went well for everyone yesterday, whether it was US Thanksgiving or just another wonderful Thursday…
I am in Grand Rapids, MI for the holiday with my inlaws…sneaking away from the ongoing party to watch Me, Too Flower and type like a madwoman about it!
I hereby declare that Me, Too, Flower has the KISS of the year!
It took thirty or so viewings, but, yep it wins, lips down!
(I won’t say which episode so as not to spoil, but head over to soompi where it is being majorly discussed.)
—–> SPOILER <——-
There is a BTS clip for the scene [not translated] that is amazing to watch:
http://www.imbc.com/broad/tv/drama/meflower/sketch/index.html?list_id=1771319
During the torrid torrid realistic kiss, the director has his hand on the actresses back. It made so much sense to me that this fatherly figure would be there, kind of as a security blanket for her. In direct opposition to the tension in the scene, the set was relaxed and light-hearted. I like how YSY interacted with LJ.
The director is kinda cute, too!
MTF is now my favorite drama, despite not being subbed where I can see it. I didn't like YSY this much in Baker King. He gets to play a less heroic character, which suits him more. He still has the worst hair, ever, but, my goodness, he is beautiful beautiful!
“sneaking away from the ongoing party to watch Me, Too Flower and type like a madwoman about it!”
imagining that made me lol !
I have to put me too flower on my list now.
Thanks for the BTS.
Does he wear handcuffs in every episode?
I only saw two and three and he wore handcuffs in both.
I disliked how the kiss was shoehorned into the story (obvious fanservice/ratings grab), but my, my….what a kiss! Just when I’ve been used to those chaste k-drama kisses and didn’t complain like everyone else did about the blandness of it all…. we have THIS! It’s hard to go back to normal kdrama kisses from this.
I know that scene could have worked plot-wise without the kiss.
Although I am glad it was there!
The same writer as WUF and MNIKSS knows how to write a real woman, how she really feels and what she would do in the arms of a man who is hot for her!
I am hoping for such a moment in FBRS, too, when they finally get to a kiss!
Agreed!
I felt (still do actually) really uncomfortable with him manhandling her like that, but I tried justifying it as if I was handcuffed every time I saw a hot policeman with that amount of sexual tension, I’d probably try the same.
It IS going to be hard. I’m crossing my fingers for FBRS. Since it’s a cable show, it should get away with a looooot more. After all that teasing with the almost-kisses, we need some well-deserved payoff!
Okay Jomo, you might have convinced me to watch this. I still wasn’t sure, but your enthusiasm is infectious!
And I LOVE how you snuck away from the party to watch k-drama. I’ve done that too…
At the moment I am obsessed with FBRS!! I even made my friend take me to this ramyun shop that is like a half hour from where I live just so that I could eat it and see all of the radish hahaha
fun!
Happy Friday y’all, and where applicable, Happy belated Thanksgiving!
General question for my more knowledgeable k-drama sunbaes: So I am a total sucker for all things Christmas season, and one of my December traditions is watching classic American Christmas TV episodes. I’m hoping to start folding K-dramas into the mix, but I am having some trouble finding them. I know there’s the drama Will it Snow for Christmas, and MSOAN references Christmas a lot, but are there any particularly Christmas-themed episodes of K-dramas? Thanks for your help!
There’s “my girl”. It’s not christmas themed, but there’s a lot of snow and some scenes with christmas trees.
And snowglobes galore.
where there are gifts exchanged and the otp/characters in general acknowledge and are pleased to be together on christmas day? I can’t think of any, but the first image that came to mind when I started to answer this post is samsoon’s raccoon eyes in my name is kim sam soon! The second is of oh seung hyun as min so young in I love you don’t cry saying merry christmas to lee jung jin’s han young min in I love you don’t cry. They had recently broken their engagement. That is probably the nicest part of that episode though. Third- seo hye rim and ha do ya in dae mul have a christmas episode- I think the last episode of the drama. That is a great episode because they finally get together after years of waiting for each other.
I’ll think about a few more dramas and let you know.
Secret Garden has one. I can’t recall which ep, but it’s the one where Kim Joo Won made his staff setup a Christmas tree in front of his home. He also kissed Gil Ra Im by the tree.
Oooh! I had totally forgotten about My Girl – definitely think I will have to rewatch that one. And Daemul has just been bumped to the top of my watch list! Thanks for the suggestions!
There’s also a Christmas episode in BOF, though I doubt it if you’d want to see it.
Hello OT children! Hope everyone is having a good Thanksgiving weekend! (Assuming you celebrate Thanksgiving, I guess. And if you don’t, I hope your weekend is going well anyway!)
Since my friends and I are all family-less here in Seoul, on Thursday we went to an unni’s house and spent the day with her family, eating home-cooked Korean food and taking a driving tour of the national park near their apartment complex, ending up at a oriental medicine clinic where one of my friends got acupuncture to alleviate some of the pain in the foot she injured a while ago. (I got a free massage while I was waiting too, heeeee~) It was freeeeeeeezing cold, but the park was pretty and I enjoyed spending time with her family. And since our unni’s brother is currently doing his military service, her parents invited us to come over any time and spend the full weekend with them (and sleep in his room). Apparently we were the first foreigners they’d ever met.
In other news, yesterday on the subway ride home I saw three people watching dramas on their smartphones — two were watching Vampire Prosecutor, and the third was watching Tree With Deep Roots. I was watching VP over one guy’s shoulder until he turned it off and went to sleep, so that was fun. Reading lips in Korean is hard when you barely speak the language to begin with.
And in other other news, my husband Kang Dong-won may be in the army but his commercials are still everywhere. I nearly have a heart attack every time one of his coffee CFs appears, and the first time I saw one I nearly started crying in the bbq restaurant where we were eating. And yet most non-Koreans I know have no idea who he is, which amazes me. (Amazing and gorgeous and talented and perfect human being, how can you not know who he issssss?) Koreans who find out that he’s my favourite K-celeb all smile and nod knowingly though.
And in other other OTHER news, next week I’m going to the Wave-K (a music show on Arirang) recording, where my friend will swoon over Brian (it was love at first sight for her when we saw him there two weeks ago) and another friend and I will swoon over Trax and MYNAME and whoever else is scheduled to show up and our other friend will just stand there awkwardly wondering who all of these idol groups are. Maybe we’ll even show up on camera more this time, who knows.
And in other x4 news, I love Korea.
The end.
I wonder if any of those people on the subway visit dramabeans. I’m waiting for someone to go “so, Kender, you were the creepy person peering over my shoulder!”
Well, he was Korean and in high school, so I doubt it.
lol! I think there are other people at my work who use dramabeans because there are no ” we haven’t classified what type of website . . .” notices so someone else definitely accesses it.
Just two words: SOUNDS AWESOME!
IT IS. And being an obvious foreigner helps, because a lot of people bend over backwards to help you.
Also, the boys think I’m pretty because I’m blonde. Never in my life have I had so many boys ask for my number.
Wow, you must feel like a queen
. Hmm, are Korean boys as cute as in the dramas?
It’s actually a little weird, because I don’t want someone who sees me just as an interesting new toy. It’s hard to weed out the weirdos from the genuinely interested guys because I’m on such high alert now. :/
And I think there’s probably the same percentage of attractive guys in Korea as there are in other countries, but I’m biased towards Asians so I find more of them attractive than I did in the States. Most of the good ones are taken though, or gay.
How long are you going to stay there? Do you consider dating anyone there? Ah and I’m curious about something: are Koreans open about being gay? Because I just read an article on The Grand Narrative these days which stated that in general Korea (just like my own country) is not really comfortable with this topic. I find it useful to know from the beginning if a guy I may find attractive is gay, at least I understand why I have no chance at him
.
I’m here for..as long as I’m here. I have no set end date. I could leave after I finish this program, or I could get a job and stay forever. ^^;
Oh no, they’re definitely not open about being gay. I know one gay guy who’s dating one my classmates, and they always refer to each other as “my friend” rather than admitting they’re gay. One Korean guy I met made a big deal of the fact that he doesn’t mind if people are gay, but I think he may have just said that to show off in front of all of us foreign girls. :/
Oh, and I would date someone. I’ve already had a few prospects, except I randomly met my classmate’s best friend’s friend and totally fell for him..via the internet..in Canada..yeah. So. Basically the guy I actually like (who likes me too, I should add) is far far away and currently unattainable, so I tell myself I should date a Korean but I can’t actually bring myself to do it because I keep thinking about this Japanese boy in Canada. And it doesn’t help that we chat with each other on FB and Skype so I CAN’T forget him.
Oh, and did I mention he’s a good three years younger than me? Not only did I pick an inappropriate guy location-wise, but also age-wise. Thank god he speaks English because if I had to add language-wise to that list too I’d be upset.
/ranting
Um, I might have to disagree with you a little bit about Koreans’ attitudes toward being gay.
One of our recent debate topics at my school was gay marriage, and the kids were pretty much split 50/50… some were vehement advocates of marriage between any people who loved each other, and kids growing up in a family of parents who loved each other, gay or not; and some thought the very idea of a homosexual couple was anathema, disgusting, clearly something that could never produce children who might benefit society, and disgusting for non-gay people to think about…
In other words, Korean opinions toward gay marriage aren’t that different from Americans’ opinions… except that in the US, the 50/50 is progressing toward a majority in favor of gay marriage.
I feel like most of the younger generation are pro-homosexuality these days though, no matter where you are in the world.
awww!! that’s cute! I do think K-celebs generally are ‘more’ down-to-earth, thankful for their fans’ love, etc. so it’s refreshing when compared to their more egotistical Holly/Bolly-wood counterparts. It’s funny coz with every kdrama i swoon + fawn over a new k-actor, heh!! Since i’m more into K-ent I do find K-actors sooo incredibly beautiful!! mmm…. I had a question how do you socialize in Korea if you aren’t conversational in Korean?! just wondering…
Lol seriously. Back in the States I mostly watched K-dramas and K-movies so I was accustomed to Korean faces long before I came here.
Ah, I’m conversational in Korean so I generally don’t have too many problems, and the constant speaking practice is helping too. Most of my friends aren’t conversational though, so I end up being the group translator a lot.
What r u in Korea for? school? I really want to go but don’t have a reason… YET. I’m thinking about an internship since i just graduated but it’s tough finding a good one, except for teaching english….
but lol on whole creeper thing!
I’m at Yonsei’s Korean Language Institute, just studying Korean. I already graduated college too, but I want to be a translator so this was a logical step for me. Some of my friends are just taking a year or so off before heading into the work force or going to grad school, so you don’t really need a reason.
Most people think I’m a teacher, though. Apparently foreigner = teacher. (Unless you’re in Shinchon, where Yonsei is, because everyone there knows about Yonsei’s language school.)
That sounds so awesome! I wish I had a reason to go too. But I’m stuck in real life working real jobs…haha. Although a cellist friend of mine went to Korea for a semester abroad and he rented a cello there for the 6 months…I could do that. Korean boys…:D
And yaaay free massage. Seriously that is the way to my heart. I LOVE massages. Maybe its cause I’m a cellist, or maybe just cause I LOVE massages. Not sure.
Anywho, sounds like you’re having a blast? What are you there for?
Lol I almost fell asleep during my massage, it was awesome.
I’m just here studying Korean. Hopefully starting next semester I’ll find a part-time tutoring job or something because I’ve realized that I’m uncomfortable spending so much money without earning any to balance it out (tuition + housing + travel + food + alcohol + shopping = lots), but right now I’m just learning.
And the Korean boys are cute.
If you’re a Westerner, though, you just have to be wary of the ones who randomly approach you in the street and try to get your number. Also of guys in the club who just want a one-night-stand with a foreigner. I haven’t yet figured out how to pick out the good ones, but I have met a few so they do exist..
That’s awesome. I would kill just to study a language (and music). And I’ve often traveled and nervously watched my accounts dwindle. How far along are you in your Korean studies?
I love cute guys. But seriously, every single time I’ve traveled my ‘foreignness’ even in ENGLAND (I’m American) has gotten me unwanted…and wanted…attention. That and I can dance. The people in clubs, at least where I went, can NOT dance. EEKS.
I did have a nice little run with an English fellow from Leeds. Next should be a hot Korean dude…
Happy OT everyone! I need to rave about JIW.
Found him (or perhaps due to the scripting of his character) boring and passable in Take Care of the Young Lady.
And personally felt that his acting was a lil unnatural in 49 Days sometimes.
But I’m really really impressed with him in FBRS!!!
He acts all the moments really well, even the corny and exaggerated ones, so much that I can’t help laughing my eyes out.
Happy Thanksgiving!!
Totally agree with you!! I’ve been on a drama drought of late wherein none of the dramas tend to make an impression on me which frustrates me to no end. So, JIW and FBRS are currently totally rocking my world!!
Loved his doubled over/trying his mighty best to breathe after being punched in the chest bit after he spots Eun-bi in her volleyball gear; the EPIC ‘sit-down’ with the ex-bf!! bahaaha-just thinking abt the heavy breathing and HARDCORE has me in splits, lulz!! Also, the concluding scene in Ep 8 O_O; someone above pointed that CS scared her in this scene…i think for me it was like, he’s frustrated not coz she’s another gurl who’s crying but he CAN’T see her in tears esp due to another guy…viz kinda romantic–the hand shaking, his heart in his mouth, and shaky breath did it for me!! At first when her ‘husband’ appears out of nowhere i went, arghhhh!! but in the next episode apparently Eun-bi will have the mighty revelation that both the guys are interested in her and toy with the both of them and CS’ll go, ‘i can’t believe i was abt to kiss her’ so when finally the kiss happens i want Chi Soo to sweep me off of my feet, ermmm, i OF COURSE mean Eun-bi!!
I agree with what GF and JB said in their podcast that this show has me LOLing at random places….CS’s father has it soo difficult that he has to compete with Pororo for Chi-soo’s affections, heh. Also, at first when CS’s buying the backpack I was all like how is he trying hard, acc. to whatshername Ba-wool’s gf, and then it dawned on me that the boy has been attending school thus far w/o one!! He’s sooo in LURVEEEE, it’s actually funny. And, Ba-wool is SOO adorable. what a cute dongseng…so concerned abt his noona!! Infact, i love all of the four FB’s Chi-soo’s friend included!! This is my cue that I should stop RIGHT NOW with my gushing!!
Oh, and Happy Friday OT’ers!!
Happy OT Friday and Post Thanksgiving Day
While here in the mountains celebrating with family, I have shared the wonders of Moyashimon: Tales of Agriculture with my sibling. She would have never explored its wonders without me. I am hoping this will open gateways to further understanding of my drama obsession. I also was able to giggle my way through a portion of FBRS, until my battery ran out, both figurative and literal. So I am off to finish ep7:)
I hope all of your holidays are splendid!
Do you think that the Cha father in FBRs took the job for baths, or that he feels all pruny after a hard day at work?
LOL – in my head I call him Cha Pa.
I’m planning to organize a KDrama viewing party with my friends who are also addicted to, well, kdramas.
Since we haven’t seen much of FBRS, I’m thinking of a catch-up weekend marathon. About the snacks – which is an essential – I’m deciding between having chips and all things guilt-inducing, and ordering all-Korean food (which might lead my friends to insisting on having soju. You see, soju and a bunch of crazy noonas almost always result into trouble of the unimaginable kind, starting with a noise war with the neighbors.) Which one, which one?
noise-war of course!
What if they watch Me Too, Flower next door?
I agree. :0)
Happy (Black) Friday! – I do not participate, for those of you who are American
My friends do. I sleep, because I am sane.
Just began A Thousand Day’s Promise. I’m going to cry a lot, aren’t I.
Hear hear. I don’t do Black Friday either. We passed WalMart on the way home last night and there was a line of cars waiting to get into the parking lot! No thanks, there isn’t anything I need/want that badly.
My daughter and her friends went to Walmart for 10 last night – my incredulous response: Walmart is bad enough…but now it’s going to be filled with actual Walmart SHOPPERS ( google the website, it’s hilarious). They went from 10 last night until 5:30 this morning. WalMart, Target, the Mall, Kohl’s, Best Buy, you name it. (Actually….*I* name it: Hell on Earth)
After 11 years in the US, I’ve never gone shopping on Black Friday. It is too crazy for me.
About TDP, tough it is sad, haven’t feel like crying yet. I’m enjoying it, but find it too slow. Nothing much has happened yet and if you think about it is almost over.
I just watched the bit in the first episode where she runs into the men’s bathroom and sobs in the stall…my eyes watered sympathetically but didn’t quite overflow. Still, for me to have that response half way through the first episode is something. I can see that they both love each other, and the chemistry is good. I’ve been reading the recaps so I do know what’s coming but that’s ok, because there’s always more to the story. The recaps didn’t make me feel anything one way or the other, but it seems the show will.
Also: Just finished ’19′ – nice little movie. And am watching Series 2 of the UK version of Being Human. Loved both Season 1 of the US Version and Series 1 of the UK version, so: happy!
I think the problem with thousand day promise is it requires you to be in your head a lot and you spend a lot of time just thinking and distancing yourself. There’s tragedy and misfortune but it’s so personal to these people that I can’t get in there with them. I’m finding myself a bit disinterested and anxious for the actual drama to happen. The beans ladies via podcast mentioned that people don’t talk as much and there are useless scenes- I don’t mind the so-called useless scenes. In general I try to limit the things I say to be succinct, and exacting ( I usually hear talking to me is like pulling teeth, but I’ve said exactly what I want to say and I mean what I’ve said) but I find that most people do talk too much or say too many things. What I do like about the wordiness of these people ( so yon specifically) is that it isn’t idle talk they actually say things that I want to know, or would want to know. I don’t believe that these characters would really be like this- in that sense she talks too much, they talk too much.
My friends and I saw Soo-ae filming for TDP a week or so ago in Shinchon where we live.. It was cool to see, and she blushed when the guys in the crowd kept telling her how pretty she was. (The scene showed up in episode 11, so they’ve still got a decent shooting schedule I think.)
And I’ve never participated in Black Friday except online. My family is allergic to crowds.
Ha! Last night my cousin said, ‘Why would I want to go to something so awful? I don’t want people TOUCHING me!’ Pretty much sums up my feeling about crowds. Plus, it gets too hot.
This cousin of yours is wise, JoAnne.
I actually dislike going shopping. If I could I would buy everything online. I wish more shops gave discounted shipping. I was a good older sister this year I gave everyone a birthday present- august, september, october. I’ll just get diamond earrings for my sisters and tigerdirect gift cards for my brothers for christmas. I can get those online. I think you’ll cry a bit, but mostly you’ll be thinking.
Ok…the unusual segue there had me thinking, “yes, I will be crying…because none of my sisters would ever give me diamond earrings for Christmas…’
hmm maybe I’m being too generous! those diamond commercials make it seem like everyone gives diamonds.
Jumma…’round these parts, diamonds are strictly a romantic gift
hmm,
it’s just that they’ve both reached milestone ages one turned 21 the other 20 so I thought I should get them grown up jewelry for christmas. I’m always curious about the boyfriends that buy jewelry for their girlfriends and how to meet one. Then I remembered I haven’t really dated since college and then I was dating broke college students.
You’re a very good big sister!
LOL, that’s what I was thinking, JoAnne.
JoAnne, I think your brain and mine work along similar lines sometimes.
..I wonder what that says about us…
That you’re two dramabeaners!
DBeaners for life! Or until real life takes over
Real life has NO sway over DB!
I avoid Black Friday like the plague. I worked at Starbucks a while and I experienced 2 black Fridays. I don’t even remember the day, it was so busy. I cannot TELL you how made drinks I made those days.
Unni, you let me know about ATDP. I’m still wounded by uri Sang-doo….
I feel like everyone, everyone, should work retail during the holiday season at least once. It would give all of the crazy, overdemanding, impatient, self-righteous shoppers proper sympathy for the people who are helping them. I did it once I had some of everything happen: some guy literally threw money at us, someone hurled abuse at us b/c he couldn’t buy batteries after the store had closed even though there was a little newsstand right there that sold batters, people were generally verbally abusive, we were overworked, etc, etc. Some folks were very nice and understanding, of course, which made the bad ones stand out so much more, but still. I’d like to think everyone would have a better experience overall if they’d had to experience shopping from the other side of the shopping counter.
/soapbox
Yep, I worked at that mall for five years. Every year, starting Black Friday (although it wasn’t this crazy back in the 80′s) we worked 9 am to 9 pm, 7 days a week until Christmas Eve, when we would get off at 6 pm. I hated it.
I stopped at that half way point and picked up again witih Being Human…I am very hesitant about getting too involved with another drama right now, LOL
Sang-doo-ya! I was recommending this to someone else and I started misting. Seriously, what did you do to me??!
BTW, Unni, how was your Thanksgiving?
Raine, Thanksgiving was very relaxing and nice – we ate at my mom’s and then visited friends later in the evening. The weather was positively SPRING-like all the long weekend, the kiddo was here and I got to see her a little bit even with her busy social schedule, I watched all of Season 3 of Being Human (UK version) so I’m caught up there, we celebrated my step-dad’s 79th birthday, I kicked my step-sisters BUTT in Words with Friends, and the Christmas Tree is now on the porch resting for Christmas Eve. Yay! How about you? How is your aunt?
PS..Yeah, I can’t talk about Sang Doo for more than a sentence or two without getting a choked up feeling in my throat.
I want the Christmas tree to go up NOW. I see them on carhoods everywhere and the lights going up…YAY!
Your Thanksgiving sounds lovely.
My aunt is doing really well. She’s lived alone for over 30 years. She was completely choked up during Thanksgiving. It was her first in nearly 15 years. She finds herself in common areas because people are there. She’s hardly cranky (before she was all the time). She loves the cat (who was initially terrified of her wheelchair.) It’s really good to see her doing well. It’s amazing what family can do for the ill.
Oh ya, I wrote a tribute to dramabeans on my blog!
TGIF Peeps!
Another anti-BF participant here. I hadn’t tried it, but I hear stories from several cousins and bro-in-law. Scary parking lot robbery stories. Makes shopping less fun and exciting, doesn’t it?
I’m also following A Thousand Days’ Promise and I’m really enjoying it. I guess you can blame it on my love for all things angsty hihi. I still haven’t shed a tear, yet I’m sure I’ll be crying a river in the upcoming episodes. I just love how the drama deviates from the usual Kdrama structure. It’s one of the must-see dramas for 2011.
Last week belle reminded me of Playful Kiss, which in turn reminded me that I’d been intending to watch the Taiwanese version, It Started with a Kiss.
I have to say that I prefer Jung So-Min’s Ha-Ni to Ariel Lin’s Xiang Qin (she’s sweet, but lacks Ha-Ni’s charm). However, Joe Cheng’s Zhi Shu is miles better than Kim Hyun-Joong’s Seung-Jo and the relationship between the main characters in ISWAK feels more reciprocal than in PK (to me, at least). I wonder if this is because of Kim Hyun-Joong’s, er, limitations as an actor or because of the directors’ differing visions. (PK seemed to be focussed almost solely on Ha-Ni for the most part, whereas ISWAK – whilst also focussing strongly on Xiang Qin – gives us more of a window into Zhi Shu’s world and feelings.)
Something to think about.
And in other news: today is my birthday and to celebrate, I have bought myself a Pig-Rabbit. (also: cocktails. though the two are in no way related.)
Ugh, coding error. How I wish it were possible to edit or delete comments… :-/
Me too! But I think no one minds.
Hmm. Pig-rabbit and cocktails. Fun! (although not related. but you can make a kdrama story around these two. Say, call it Pig-Rabbit Boy, Cocktail Shop.)
Happy Birthday!
Hee, that would be a disturbing kdrama. (though I’m now picturing Jung Il-Woo wearing Playboy Bunny ears. it’s… kind of hot.
)
And thank you for the birthday wishes!
Are you saying that the only clothes he’s wearing are bunny ears?…uhh that is an interesting fantasy.
Some one please do a magazine spread with this theme.
It might help me forget about any memory of my ex
@zgznoona No, not just the bunny ears – he’s also wearing a big… smile.
Pig-Rabbit
It’s so cute!
Happy birthday!
Thank you!
congratulations- happy birthday jules!
Thank you!
Happy Birthday, Jules!
Thanks so much!
Happy Birthday! Mine was yesterday.
Loved that you bought yourself a pig-rabbit. I should do that too! I think the pig rabbit – the idea of it and the word that describes it – is such a fabulous thing.
happy belated birthday alua! And many more!
Happy belated Birthday to you, Alua!
Happy Belated Birthday, alua!
I always think of potato curry when I see your name. I have this memory of visiting my friend zaynab’s house as a child and eating aloo curry.
LOL. Loving it! I like evoking that kind of yummy memory
Thanks for the bday wishes everyone!
hehehe. nice.
Happy birthday to Jules and Alua! May you have many more k-drama filled birthday!
Thank you! And a belated Happy Birthday to you, too. I hope you had a fantastic day.
And the Pig-Rabbit *is* fabulous! Though my flatmate thinks it’s a crime against nature and won’t let me put it in the lounge…
Did you get the stuffed toy? I actually checked online, and am debating with myself whether I should get one too. Or whether I should just start with the mobile phone pig rabbit first….
Ha, I wouldn’t put it in the lounge to protect it from any and all harm! Much safer living in a person’s room!
*nods* The stuffed toy, yes. I got it from yesasia.com and although it does not come with a sparkly hair clip, it *does* have a plaid bow tie (which actually reminds me a bit of Doctor Who, because: ‘Bow ties are cool!’).
(Pig-Rabbit is currently sitting on my dresser, watching me type. which is… not as creepy as it sounds. *g*)
@ Jules @ alua Happy belated birthday to both of you.
Thank you, zgznoona!
KEY WORD:reciprocal
I swear, that drama pissed me off like no other drama before. KHJ seemed like an abusive husband. He never looked at her with affection! It seemed insane that Ha-ni still saw something in that ass. Really, KHJ butchered that role. It was meant to be prtrayed at affectionate without the use of words. That actor wa supposed to convey how much he cared for her by looks and glances, which KHJ was highly incapable of.
Oh, and Happy Birthday!
Wait, that remind me of a very pissing-off story
http://purerants.wordpress.com/2011/11/22/the-wise-women-shall-prevail/
villager – i loathe that drama. seriously. i don’t know why i watched it from beg to end. i had to skip through a lot of each episode. it was like a car wreck. i had to rubber neck.
Thank you for the birthday wishes!
Yes, I think the role of Seung-Jo was supposed to be more… nuanced… and I do wonder how different the drama would’ve been had KHJ not been cast as the male lead. But a part (albeit a very small part) of that lack of reciprocity in the eyes of the viewer was, I think, due to the director and his choice of which character to focus on during certain scenes. (this makes sense in my head, but may not to anyone else reading this comment, so… as an example, the first kiss scene. in PK, directly after the kiss, Seung-Jo walks away and the camera focusses on Ha-Ni’s shocked and dazed face as she sags against the wall, touching her lips. in ISWAK, the camera focusses on both of the leads as they process what just happened, with quite a bit of attention on Zhi Shu’s confused and surprisingly – well, surprising to him, not so much to us – affected expression.)
I sat through PK solely for Ha-Ni; I kept hoping that one day she’d start to love herself as much as I loved her, but… that didn’t happen, which was incredibly frustrating.
And I don’t know if you watched the youtube ‘extras’ post-PK, but there were a few snippets from Seung-Jo’s diary in which he said (paraphrasing here): I wish she could see inside my heart for a day, so she could know how much I love her. Which was sweet and mollified me somewhat, but- why could we not have seen that in the drama? And *why* could he not have just *told* her and then proven his love through his every day actions instead of just writing it down in his diary, treating her coolly, and then wondering why she didn’t understand how he felt? Argh, so frustrating.
I did not see that AT ALL. I felt like he love for her just popped out and was all in words and lust.
PIG RABBIT! MadDino made a pig rabbit cap that I’m COVETING!
MEE TOO.
I want it so bad. Wish I had awesome tech skills plus the ability to make PIG RABBITS out of scratch
I know, she even posted how to make it but I could never.WAIT!!!!!!!! I just remembered, my SISTER crochet’s….HALLELUJAH!
You two are so cute with your desires for a pig rabbit hat. I wish I had time and energy to make them for you.
Imma show my sister the pattern.
And ask for it for christmas….haha
Happy Birthday!
Pig Rabbit and the 49 days tear necklace are on my christmas wishlist this year…
I have to say that I prefer Jung So-Min’s Ha-Ni to Ariel Lin’s Xiang Qin (she’s sweet, but lacks Ha-Ni’s charm). However, Joe Cheng’s Zhi Shu is miles better than Kim Hyun-Joong’s Seung-Jo and the relationship between the main characters in ISWAK feels more reciprocal than in PK (to me, at least).
I could not agree with you more….. their character was infuriating and the fact that Ariel really becomes her character made me want to kill them both at times…but Jung So Min added a certain charm to Ha Ni that made her even more adorable….and YES Joe Cheng’s Zhi Shu was not only way better as a character, he was also a much better actor than KHJ (dont kill me KHJ fans, I do love the guy in other thngs just not here)…It was like he was born to play that role…wow…this really makes me miss Joe….it’s been a while since I;ve watched any of his dramas to completion
Thank you! And it’s funny you should mention the 49 Days necklace, because I bought that, too. (it’s so pretty!)
And yes! There was something so incredibly endearing about Ha-Ni – I just wanted her to be happy. But Joe Cheng was fantastic as Zhi Shu and his character seemed to not only love Xiang Qin and want to spend time with her, but to also find her physically attractive, whereas Seung-Jo was rather… passionless, in all regards. (and They Kiss Again certainly lived up to its name, is all I’m saying.
)
I haven’t seen It Started With a Kiss, but my friends have been telling me how they found Joe Cheng’s acting way better than that of Kim Hyun Joong. I think Jung So Min did a pretty god job as Oh Ha Ni.
Happy birthday Jules! Hope you have a great one.
Thank you, belle! It was a fantastic birthday.
And I would agree with your friends: Joe Cheng was so good in ISWAK (and the fact that he’s a better kisser than KHJ – on-screen, I mean; I can’t vouch for their real life, um, talents – certainly didn’t hurt.).
Been back a week now from my 2nd trip to Korea. I don’t think I’ll tire of this lovely country and want to make a third trip there, God willing. Love the sights, food and Hongdae, in particular the cafe culture there. Hangook joaheyo! (is that correct? I learned it from a female taxi driver.)
Wow. That’s exciting!
I’m happy for you.
I agree, Korea has this sort of magnet that keeps you wanting to return. For one, the people I’ve met there are incredibly nice. Pray that I get brave enough for a return visit this winter. Brrr!
If you do decide to come back this winter, don’t go anywhere that will require you to take off your shoes outdoors. We went to a Buddhist temple yesterday and I swear I almost had frostbite on my toes by the time we finished touring the place. ><
I have a food hangover from Thanksgiving. Undoubtedly too many carbs. I’ll go easy on the carbs today and I’ll feel better……
right after I eat this piece of pumpkin pie for breakfast.
Not much going on this week, just the teenager’s homeschool and Christmas crafty stuff. Oh and getting ready for yesterday’s carb-fest plus turkey.
Marathoned SKKS whilst I knitted, dang I love that show. SJK is so stinking adorable in that I just wanna pinch his cheeks. And I’m probably in the minority, but I still want Moon Jae Shin to get the girl. I think that’s my favorite Ah In role, he’s beautiful with his sageuk hair clothes.
Still keeping up with FBRS…awesome, 1000 Kisses ….meh, MOH…..not bad, TWDR…awesome, Musical….OK, mostly watching for Daniel Choi. I don’t care who he ends up with in that show as long as he gets someone.
Gearing up for the most expensive month of the year for us: both kids have birthdays, (and my DIL was last week), we’re traveling out of state for Christmas, and property taxes are due. Not as bad as my poor mom though, 8 of her 22 grandkids have December birthdays, in addition to my brother and a sister in law. And my little sister is due any minute, if she doesn’t have it by the 2nd they’ll induce and that’ll be one more.
Totally ignoring Black Friday and just marathoning Dream High while I continue to knit….
I was watching top chef yesterday in one of the episodes susan feniger was the guest judge. I love her and I always think she’s like someone’s grandma always smiling and she’s got an attractive laugh and of course she cooks. Anyway, mentioning your mother and her 22plus grand children reminded me of susan feniger.
What are you knitting?
Right now I’m knitting a Dr Who scarf for my sisterwife’s nerdy husband, lol. He’s always wanted one. If you go to http://www.doctorwhoscarf.com you get an idea, if you don’t know. I didn’t, I don’t watch Dr Who. Anyway, Nerdy Hubby’s bday is Monday and we’re having a party. I’m a little more than halfway done, and it’s going pretty fast so I should be able to finish.
I know the doctor who scarf- as soon as I read the phrase I pictured it. That man is very strange looking. I think it’s because his face is all sharp points and thin. One summer my mother attempted to educate me in specific ideas of femininity ( sewing, knitting, cooking, watercolor painting) and it failed.I always rejected that kind of education as a young girl. A roommate of mine tried once more to teach me knitting and I would’ve liked to learn to make socks but my spatial intelligence was malnourished already.
Lovely scarf! I proudly own a similar one. I’m sure your husband will love it
.
It’s actually for my best friend’s nerdy husband. Mine is pretty nerdy, too, but not THAT nerdy, lol.
@ ahjummabunny Both of me grandmothers were knitters and I learned pretty darned early….I think I was 6 or 7. I don’t knit a lot, but every once in awhile I catch the bug. I used to knit baby blankets for all the new babies in our family, but with “greats” coming at an amazing pace these days, I just don’t have time. For me, it’s a something that’s easy to do when I’m watching TV or riding in a car.
I’m almost done with SKKS. Joong-ki ssi is SO ADORABLE. And I love YAI. But the chemistry she has with MY is amazing. And their romance based in friendship is the way to my heart…*le sigh*
Okay! ME TOO FLOWEr will be the secoNd of my waiting list recaps besidE fLOWER boYS RAMYun Shop,, start reading nOw \(^__^)/
when i was in hi9h school, i could finish/marathon watching kdrama in just 3 days.. BuT nOW? I haven’t finish City Hunter, Iljimae, bEetHOVEn Virus, pRotect The bOss, Spring Waltz, Baker King, drUNKen to Love you, (i knOw i’m suck..)
buT great dramas keEp flowing.. You knOw what? I wanNa watch PrincesS’ Man, Ojakgyo Brothers, FBRS, ME Too Flower, Scent Of Woman, and so on and so on.. Ah, that must be great!
I saved City Hunter for some more quiet days, when I will come home from work and cuddle on the sofa and slowly sip my tea and enjoy His Hotness
. Till then I’m chaotically watching everything I can.
I know it’s not drama-related, but I know some people here would appreciate this:
http://procrastibaking.co.uk/
How fun. I could spend hours on there…
Um….is it bad that I’m already making the fluffernutter cups? What. They have to be tested before I add to the Christmas gift rotation. That only makes sense!
No, I practice my dutch apple in advance…very much in advance. keke
Im thankful for my family and for all my friends, but Im not thankful for the fact that my newer laptop is now a pile of crap… now I have to use my old dino laptop… they conned me by telling me vaio was a good make Ive had nothing but troube with it since I bought it a year ago… at least this acer though old, and has a crappy keyboard still has a working harddrive unlike my vaoi. sorry for the rant but ive had it up to my gills with that crap comp.
*hugs* I think we’ve all had to deal w/crappy computers we wish we’d never spent money for, Min. You have all my sympathies.
aww, well, acer is tough. I have an old acer for emergencies. Dunno why it’s not dead yet.
Min-yah – I have a Dell that I’m on now, but I have NO idea when its going to tell me that I have and NTSF problem again…I bought my dad’s macbook off him for cheap and now I have to get used to mac again. Poop. But I think you knew this.
HOWEVER> BESOS!!!!!!!! SO SORRY SORRY!
I’ve just started watching Qing Shi Huang Fei over at Viki.com. While much respect to Viki and their hard-working subbers, only about the first 12 episodes are adequately subbed and I don’t understand Chinese. Can anyone clue me in as to another website where I can continue to watch QSHF with English subtitles?
Happy Friday OTers. For Americans, I bet you all are still full. For everyone else, HI!
I decided to start teaching myself Photoshop so I could make a banner for my blog. I stayed up 6 hours last night and got about a 2″ x 1″ square done. How frustrating! But it was good to learn.
I’m hoping to catch up on FBRS this week because I’ve been glued to SKKS. Three more episodes! At first I wasn’t a fan of Mickey Yoonchun, but now….I giggle when he smiles. And YAI is so adorable when he hiccups and SJK’s character is finally really developing. He’s brilliant.
What is everyone watching?
1. Ojakgyo Brothers
2. Flower Boy Ramyun Shop
3. Tree with deep roots
4. The musical
I’m so scared to start the Musical. I was so disappointed by Glee and I had high expectations because of Lea Michele. It butchers so many wonderful songs. Although the Idina, Kristen, Neil cameos were AWESOME
Zettai Kareshi (niiice!!)
Dal’Ja’s spring (still haven’t finished it yet but I love it)
Some more or less crappy reality shows… like My Fair Wedding, My First Home, etc. Makeover shows in general.
DalJa’s is taking forever to download for me.
I admit, I watched Zettai Kareshi for Hiro….keke. He’s so flippin’ adorable, even with that crazy hair. And the fluent English is so sexy…*le sigh*
The guys in the drama are not exactly my type, but I’m head-over-heels for the story. The idea that a robot could having his conscience awakened and start developing feelings for his owner is really fantastic!. I can’t foresee the ending for this drama and I won’t even try to because it is exciting as it is. I don’t want to spoil the surprise.
Plume AVOID spoilers at all costs. This drama/manga is super atypical. You’ll enjoy it for SURE. Avoid the k-film posts/comments!!!!
EEE!!! SKKS. Micky Yoochun was pretty amazing in it. Not so spectacular in Miss Ripley, though. But that drama was prettty horrible so…
I’m watchin FBRS (but you already knew that)
If I find time I want to put up a new post on my blog
OH! and I want to break into T-dramas (finally) and watch Devil Beside You. Deeno really liked it, so I’ve got my hopes up. But can someone tell me, are T-actors as hot as Korean ones???? I’m almost afraid to find out. I know how superficial I am.
Villager – I don’t know about T-actors. But I’m avoiding Miss Ripley cuz I heard that it was less than stellar. I’m going to finish my PSH post and then get onto FBRS:D:D:D Then tonight finish SKKS.
I’m superficial…its okay. Half of Korean drama is the pretty. kekeke
I am watching:
Goodbye my love (last episode)
Stained glass
Tree with deep roots
Flower boy ramyun shop
A thousand days promise
Sejong the great (sejong isn’t as loveable as in tree)
Live in Style ( it’s irritating me a bit)
All in (I’m stuck at episode 14 or 15)
Sanctuary, Burn Notice, Top Chef ( all on demand)
I want to watch Poseidon, The Musical, Man of honor, delicious proposal, new wise mother, good wife, surgeon bong dal hee.
bunny – what a nice group of shows. It keeps you interested with so many genres and currently airing versus not. I only have 4 going right now and I find it hard to keep up with. You have to tell me your secret!
Flower boy ramyun shop
Me too flower
The musical
and seriously considering starting Princess’s Man and Ojakgyo brothers
Red- when you start the princess’ man, you will stop watching everything else. I’m SO serious. It’s magnificent in terms of almost everything. I’m a diehard PSH fan but the entire cast was fabulous (save 2 people, but I won’t go into that). The cinematography was lovely, OST rocked, plot and character development was solid (very little typical k-drama-y stuff).
I’m considering Ojakgyo brothers too. How’s Me too, flower?
Flower Boys Ramyun Shop
Thousand Days Promise (haven’t seen this week’s)
Me Too Flower
The Musical
Ojakgyo Brothers (stopped ep 27)
Vampire Prosecutor
Office Girls (haven’t watched last two weeks)
In Time with You
(I’m losing interest in most of them, except FBRS, MTF, VP)
This week I marathon through Mr. Brain, Hana Kimi (TW), and Down with Love
Trying to keep my brain busy with dramas so I don’t think about reality at this moment
As you can imagine not much sleeping these days
Yes, get oneself so tired that you’re dead asleep or focusing on someone else’s issues. I started an American show. GASP. Once Upon a Time. I’m dying for Cinderella to show up. It’s my favorite favorite favorite fairy tale, Disney and original. I’m only on episode 3, so hopefully she’ll show.
She does. At least, I think it’s her. I missed an episode, I think.
It’s definitely her. Not this past episode, but the one before that. I just watched it last night.
YAY! I started watching it but I have to watch Pasta to recap it for tomorrow. I’m still only on 3 and 4 of FBRS cause I’m writing a review for that. However, I’m on episode 16 of SKKS. SO CUTE! I needed some cute.
Happy Friday and/or Post-Thanksgiving (where applicable), minasan!! Congrats to Dr. Plume on finishing your studies and on to residency (I hate my cardiologist, so can you be mine instead?), Happy Birthday to Jules, and a large round of hugs to zgznoona {{{zgznoona}}}. Having gone through the mother-of-all-breakups earlier this year, I know exactly what you’re going through. Vent all you want; we’re here for ya, sweetie!
Sorry for missing last week’s OT, but I’m at the end of Week Three (out of six scheduled) of the Trial From Absolute Hell™ which was foisted upon me when one of my co-workers up and quit with no notice. Since I’m the only other paralegal with a litigation discipline, everything plopped into my lap and I’m now burning the candle at three ends. To utter those infamous words: I WILL NEVER FORGIVE HER!!!
So my drama-watching has screeched to a halt until this nightmare ends the Court goes dark for Christmas on 20 December. Good thing the weather turned cold and rainy out here in NorCal, because it makes staying at the office for hours on end tolerable. I’m heading back again after lunch to finish typing up more motions and start in on the jury instructions. Argh.
Besides, any spare time I have available has been scouring the Internet Tubes for any tiny piece of information about JCW’s upcoming “Bachelor’s Grocery Store” drama and trying to keep the Soompi page updated. What a freakin’ nightmare!! Geez, it’s been like searching for a needle in a haystack, especially since Channel A has been keeping everything so tight-lipped and the production has yet to fully flesh out the cast! They’re casted the mains and the kids, but they’re taking their sweet time filling in the middle. Some ‘model boy’ named Sung Ha was just signed on as a “toned and strong character,” apparently to give Changwook-sshi a run for his money in the Eye Candy Department. Hah — good luck with that!! I see an EPIC FAIL over that decision — unless the PD-nim treats us to a dual brooding shower scene… in slow-mo, while a halo of light in the background accentuates their rippling muscles, and a cascade of water runs slowly down their rock-hard abs… :blinkblinkblink: Oh sorry, where was I?
In other news, I finally got to see “Silenced” last week with a few of my classmates (I had to bribe them with a BBQ dinner once we’re done with our final projects). Even at a Tuesday late afternoon matinee, the place was packed with ahjummas like me and other students (probably cutting class too LOL). No spoilers will be given here, but there were some extremely squirm-worthy moments crucial to the plot (so you have been warned). I also have to say that if you think the U.S. Judicial System is screwed up, then the Korean Judicial System is absolutely off-the-charts batshit crazy!! I was shaking my head throughout the courtroom scenes trying to make sense of it all, but I always have a hard time watching any media focusing on the legal system.
Gong Yoo did an admirable job with his role, but there were moments when I thought he played it too mellow and I was yelling to myself “DO SOMETHING, DAMMIT!!!” I could go on for hours about this, but all in all, it was very well-written, beautifully filmed and acted — if those child actors do not receive some sort of award at the Baeksangs or another awards show, I’m gonna punch someone big time…
Gotta run, chingus. Hope everyone has a great day — seeyas later tonight!
DO YOU KNOW HOW HARD IT IS TO CLEAN EGGNOG OFF A LAPTOP KEYBOARD?
Well, I do now. Thanks to you. The double shower scene…oh wait, here, let me find it for you:
dual brooding shower scene… in slow-mo, while a halo of light in the background accentuates their rippling muscles, and a cascade of water runs slowly down their rock-hard abs…
was like being wook-rolled with WORDS!
Call me in 6 years!
Hey you’re blog is awesome!
damn it, i meant your blog
anyway that guy is hot, I should start watching some dramas with him…
JoAnne unni- your poor computer! I thought about you when i was searching for Rain pictures and I saw one of him in jeans…and unbuttoned jeans…:D
おはよチェルカル!(my guestimate of your name…)ごめんごめん!!I HATE taking on other people’s work. But you seem to be handling it without going (completely) insane as you can still talk about dual shower scenes…I was editing a shirtless photo of Rain yesterday. Put HIM in one of those shower scenes….:D
I will watch Silence and get back to you on it. Sounds..intense as it did when I read about it.
Thanks cherkell, as I said before, you guys are great. Feel much better reading all your words of support.
Your blog is great.
I was waiting for the Bachelors Shop at first, but I’m not too sure about the story.
I’ll give it a try any ways, who knows I might like it.
@cherkell
Thank you so much for the birthday wishes!

I just seen Sunny (2011-South Korean Movie) here. I want not wait to watch this after I watch The Musical episode 11.
Here is the hyperlink to Sunny (South Korean Movie) @ dramacrazy.com:

I think this “Sunny” is an older movie and not the one that topped box office records recently.
Happy Friday! And Happy Thanksgiving to the USAmericans! As happens every few years, I had my birthday on Thanksgiving. Had to work all day (from 6 am till 4 pm), but did go to the cinema in the evening (saw an absolutely fabulous Iranian film called “A Separation” – highly recommend it) and then had a rather entertaining dinner in a Turkish restaurant with a friend. We made our waiter suffer because we insisted on sitting outside and asked questions like “Which vegetables are in the spicy vegetables? What do you mean with ‘Turkish tea’ exactly?” Poor guy. He ended up stuttering about ‘that white one’ and ‘the green version of aubergines’ (=courgette) and things of the sort…. The food was pretty good though (although I was hoping to try out this South Korean restaurant, but couldn’t find it unfortunately. Another time.).
Also keep realising what a small world it is recently. Met a Japanese lady at the farmers’ market who knows a Japanese friend of mine AND my PhD supervisor because she acted as his interpreter in a conference once. And today I realised that a Peruvian girl I went to uni with in the Netherlands lives in the same hall of residence as a friend of mine. Totally random.
Who knows. I might run into one of you on the street somewhere in the world one day.
Alua!! *waves*
As for the meeting thing, isn’t bumping into each other somewhere in cyberspace (eg, Dramabeans) the internet equivalent of bumping into each other at the convenience store/park/restaurant/whatever? LOL, Though I guess it’d be termed ‘stalking’ if I knew you’d be here to begin with. LOL. And Happy Thanksgiving to you (we can all give thanks no matter where on earth we are) Cheers!
It’d be the equivalent only if we randomly bump into each in cyberspace in some completely not-k-drama-related website.
*waves back!*
It is crazy how that works. I’ve had it happen several times this week, actually! The best one though is this:
I was in a string quartet from the age of 12-16 that was a gigging string quartet. The violinist/violist (who was 2 year older) ended up going to Duke for medical school. He is from Miami. Let’s call him Bob
My college roommate is from North Carolina and now goes to Duke for …something medical and science-y (she analyzes blood and stuff…clinical…i dunno) (I know I’m a bad former roommate!) Let’s call her Lucy
ANYWAY, I get a facebook message from Bob that he saw I was friends with Lucy and I told him that we were roommates. He gets all excited and tells me that he wants to ask her out O_o. So of COURSE I immediately text Lucy and tell her what he’s thinking (chicks before d*cks is my motto). Apparently, Bob is the talk of the med school ’cause he’s SO nerdy. He kept trying to ask me how to woo her and she finally started dating someone so I had an easy out! kekeke
Anyway, small world eh? I’m still game for k-dramaing when I’m in England!
Poor Bob! I like nerdy guys. They are soo cute.
Hahaha, poor Bob!
We can totally k-drama when you come to England! Did you book your ticket yet?
No, I haven’t booked it yet. I’m waiting for an e-mail reply. If I can stay on a sofa, then I can stay longer. If I can’t, I will have to spend that money on a hostel. Seriously, if sleeping in a park was safe, I totally would do it. I don’t need a bed. I just need to travel. Ha.
Similar story here, and not the only one I have: lived across the hall from a girl 10th grade boarding school. She now lives in Miami and does something artsy with her musician husband. We reconnected on Facebook, and I happened to notice the name of a woman I go to church with here in my tiny town in CT. Academic, I think, but also runs a theater collective. Turns out they went to college together!
No joke! I wonder if I know her too. If she’s in the artsy realm I may have run across either her or her man!
I love the 6 degrees of separation.
I am 3 degrees from the President. I found this out last week. I was like NO WAY!
She works in admissions at the Art Institute of Miami now, I think, and has a theatrical background and he’s a musician with a band – blues guitar, I think. Somewhat hazy on the details, she told me quite a while ago.
That’s so cool though. Small world!
Hello lurkers and commenters of Dramabeans! After a drama dry spell, seems like there’s so much I want to watch. Its not fair.
I’m still on the 5th episode of FBRS. They better give guy#2 some bad qualities, ’cause at the rate it’s going, Imma fall for him instead. Cha Chi-soo is cool and all that, but the other guy is just too darn perfect at the moment. I hate it when dramas openly manipulate your feelings and then in the end say ‘Oops!’ and run loaded vehicles over the remains of your heart. No fair! But I guess that’s exactly why I watch K-dramas in the first place, I am a slave, helpless to keep myself from repeating the same addictive behavior.
Also, I was thinking of writing a review of the episodes I’ve watched so far, but when I thought about it seriously, I noticed there’s TOO DARN MUCH. I wish I’d taken notes or something. There’s so much that I’m loving atm.
All of the characters in particular are so entertaining/endearing/snarky/plain awesome, it’s ridiculous. I even love Coach and the Swan agashi. Another thing that struck me was how real the bitchy character is. In real life, you seldom have out-to-get-revenge-at-any-cost types of people. Most people who do hurtful things are simply…superficial and vain. And Swan agashi is a perfect manifestation of that. That’s probably the best thing about the drama so far, that the baddies aren’t truly manipulative, they just lack awareness of anything outside themselves.
somehow I think I’m the only one on dramabeans not into FBRS… I’m just annoyed by a couple of things so I gave up watching (but I’m totally enjoying the recaps somehow?!?!?)
My plan is actually to try watching it at some later point again (when it’s finished), because I have had it before that I tried watching a drama, somehow didn’t care for it, stopped after a couple of episodes and then tried a few months later and totally loved it. And it might be this way with FBRS.
I thinking writing reviews of dramas (as opposed to films) is haaard. So much more to talk about – it’d probably be better to do it by episode, every time you watch one. But if you do end up doing it, I’ll be impressed. (-:
Alua – as soon as it differentiated itself from the j-dorama highschool genre I was okay. I’m going to do review for each week (2 episodes each) I’m going to try to do one today, but I have something else planned…but I KNOW what you mean about FBRS. I’ve avoided JB reviews BUT her writing style is enjoyable whether she is hatin’ or lovin’. Maybe thats why you’re enjoying it.
I think what has annoyed me has been the acting. Not because it’s bad acting, but because it’s a bit too over-the-top for me.
Like when they put in silly sounds for comic effect.
And I sort of don’t like Cha Chi Soo as simply not having a grasp of, ahem, anything. But then that sort of initially bothered me with the lead of Protect the Boss as well – and I’m totally digging that drama now (started watching it again after dropping it initially). Although with PTB Noh Eun Seol, from the very start, was a strong counterpoint to the male lead’s immaturity, which isn’t quite the same with FBRS (the dumbly-love-struck Yang Eun Bi I don’t find very easy to appreciate either).
The recaps take all that away, and simply leave me with plot and dialogue which I do think works wonderfully.
But since everyone keeps raving about FBRS I *will* give it another try – in a few months, after I have sort of forgotten about it, and might be able to appreciate it better. We’ll see.
but it’s okay with chi soo because he’s a HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT!
I’m actually enjoying the over the top acting, because I’m taking it as part of the comedy and the silliness of the narrative. They are like characters in a manga, and that is how I take them.
The first scene of the first episode was kind of a turnoff, until I realized that the silliness was part of its charm.
Now I just laugh and enjoy each little crazy thing they do
Both of you are probably right…. I’ve been thinking lately that maybe I’m being too rational when watching these things.
Need to let go of that and just allow myself to enjoy the silliness…
Alua – Your issues were mine. I’m writing a review for ep 3 and 4 now and the overthinking really helps me to deal with it I think! When I’m done I’ll show it to you. Maybe you’ll be inspired
Or maybe you’ll hate it.
I totally can’t deal with Hyun-joong…like at all. No matter what anyone says. Or what I listen to, watch, read or anything. It doesn’t matter. He looks like an alien and acts like a robot. *Runs away from fangirls*
No. 2 must have an iron deficiency to sleep all the time and anywhere. Personally apart from being gorgeous and older and being able to cook and speak English and Japanese…oh no I can’t write anything bad about him…
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! Or an awesome Thursday for those of u not from the US!
The drama I’m on now: The Return of Iljimae.
On the 2nd episode but so far, awesome! Jung Il Woo
And sorry, I’m not as talented as everyone else in the world and only watch one drama at a time.
Jennifer you are not alone. I, too, can only seem to watch one drama at a time. When I was marathoning them it was no big, but now that I’m watching stuff when I get a long enough moment….let’s just say I’ve been watching Twinkle Twinkle since Spring >.<
But, hey, ROI is on my list. As a matter of fact, I'm downloading episode 17 right now
I always try to convince my sister by saying, but do you just watch one tv series a week? you watch at least 3! It’s true that sometimes I’m watching so many dramas I get them mixed up, or I put one on pause for a long time but mostly I organize them based on what I’ll be doing with the rest of my time. Like at work I can only watch 1 hour- so whichever drama I can only watch one episode at a time of I’ll watch at work and then let’s say on thursdays I watch yoo hui yol on tv at 10 so which ever drama won’t need too much of my attention and I can watch in between commercials of yoo hui yol I’ll watch on thursdays.
lol you’ve got it down ahjummabunny! so THAT’S how people maximize their time to fit in all those dramas.
I try to rationalize it that way, too, Jumma. It only seems to work when I’m live-watching…which doesn’t happen often. I tend to just marathon watch anything I’m working on.
I can only watch one drama in a day. and I usually take a while (well for a k-drama fan) to finish anything. I’ve been watching SKKS for about a week now, I’m still on episode 5 of FBRS, ep 14 of Pasta…haha very very slow
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=SWkhTpY5VAs#!
Hello everyone on OT. Been keeping sorta on my resolution to not stalk blogs :-0 Still reading the recaps though.
Hope everyone is having a great weekend and Happy Thanksgiving and was Black Friday good shopping for all you lucky people?
Only popped by to say it’s another end of an era as the last of the F4 becomes a man.
With Lee Min-hot dating and HOT
Kim Hyun Joong who dyed his hair and now looks SO sleazy when he was so hot before
Kim Joon in the Police for his national service.
And….now Bummie
who has lost all his baby face cuteness.
When…when did you grow and grew your hair!
Happy OT everyone *waves*
its been a while since my last post here. been a silent lurker.but i had to delurk to say congrats @Plume. wow, thats awesome..some of us still have 5 and a bit years to go..only in my first semester of the first year..
@Plume here‘s to you and i wish you all the best on your futurplans!!
Thank you and good luck with your studies! Med school seems to last an eternity but eventually it does come to an end
.
First year is a pain, but next years will be really exciting, I promise. Everyone here has really great memories from the student days.
Happy Belated Thanksgiving! Hope everyone had a happy Thursday and has an even better Friday! If your planning on shopping please be safe because people be acting crazy.
I’m in Love with Flower Boy Ramyun Shop! The mocking dance just sealed it for me. And the abs. Oh those abs. When we’ll I see them again?
Hello, OTers!
Just recovering from my turkey induced coma and now I have to find a creative way to feed everyone the same stuff again, but disguised this time around.
We amped up Mr. Turkey this year by beer-butting him on the gas grill. Totally delicious result!
Decided to give myself a dose of “happy” for this week and rewatched MGIAG. There’s nothing like a healthy dose of Puppy/Woong-ahh! to make me fangirl – I even love his perm in this one. Charming from beginning to end.
I’ve also been hooked in by A Thousand Kisses. I’m not even sure of how it happened, but here I am on episode 28 and as confused as ever with the family secrets. This last one is a doozy, I guess. I’m saying “I guess” because for the life of me I can’t figure out what in the heck is happening. Something about the dead dad’s student’s mother-in-law’s aunt?!
Seriously, anyone watching this who can figure out what’s happening?! The wailing and screaming, fainting, gastro-attacks, nastiness, blackmailing are over the top.
And yet, here I am, confused and still watching. **sigh**
Hi Cynthia!
I was wondering whether anyone at DB watches A Thousand Kisses. I don’t know how I ended up watching it at all. I mean I almost developed an allergy to rich guys marrying poor but oh so cute heroines. It must have been for Ji Hyun Woo, but his character turned out as cute as his GF’s. Too much sugar in sugar coating.
Only his nuna is a piece of work – blant and open in her hatred, but on the other hand she is the best dressed female character EVER for me. No frilly minis, no nauseating pink – really classy stuff.
As for the recent development, I guess the writers want to elevate the art of conveying birth secrets to unknown heights. I don’t speak Korean (yet, sigh) but what I have gathered from the fansubs is that the older sister is going to marry her biological cousin (like she was a child out of wedlock). That would be crappy, let’s be reasonable.
When I started watching this drama I liked the realtively fresh characters. Now they seem so clichee-ridden that I rely heavily on fast forward button. Hence old chaebol ladies scream, have headaches and plot.
YuMi was a likable, modern girl who seemed to use her brain, but now she is shown as a cute idiot who just demands all the silly things “that othe people do” like fancy proposal, couple t-shirts and so on. What a waste…
But still, anyone tell me why am I going to watch the next episode?
I’m watching it too (I think there are several of us).
I’m on episode 26 only though – waiting for subs, although I have skimmed through the RAWS (not wanting to wait).
I think Yoo Mi is still sort of modern, although somewhat struggling with the family she has married into. She seems to be sort of shocked with what she is seeing (the father-in-law’s treatment of his wife), but still unable to communicate that most of time. But yes, in some ways she is also acting silly, with the couple T-shirts and all that.
At least she hasn’t given up her job, and fact, refuses to….
I actually like the other couple better b/c Woo Bin is so fab.
Woo Bin would be a perfect boyfriend in real life, but he lacks some flaws in a drama
In real life I’d probably not be so keen on him being a CEO for soccer/football (but would still forgive him since he is perfect otherwise
)
I love that Won Bin’s sister is so openly hateful – and when she’s sympathetic to her shrew of a mother (and what’s with Shrew demanding equal gift status from Grandma?! Could she be any more spiteful and grasping?!) I want to throw a can of V8 over both of them.
You think this latest birth/secret stuff is that they’re cousins? My brain hurts. That would mean their fathers or mothers would have to be sisters or brothers. We know the shrew and our long-suffering m-i-l/mom are not blood related. And their husbands are brothers, but not related to YooMi’s father. And they keep angsting/yapping about YooMi’s professor father’s student and some kind of shameful event there. Like I said, my head hurts.
I’m still getting a kick out of YooMi/Adjusshi and their age difference impacting upon the relationship. Her pregnancy should amp up some funny (to a degree, considering all the gloom coming up!) I’d still like to slap the younger sister. What a brat.
What I understood (I can be wrong): JooYoung is the daugter of the mother we know and of her lover (professor’s student=Woo Bin’s mom’s dongsaeng who died some eps ago in America)
I know it’s far beyond ridiculous.
Ooooo… the fog is beginning to lift.
This is the Shrew’s brother who was forced to emigrate to the States years back and just got killed in that auto accident (and had a wife and child)? And that was why Shrew threw water on mom/sister-in-law in the restaurant because Shrew was hysterical and blaming her for the brother’s death, right?
So, if older sis is a product of her mother and Woo Bin’s uncle’s affair/whatever – they ARE cousins. Ick. Too bad they don’t live in Appalachia. I think kissin’ cousins are legal there….
I got very confused with the last birth secret as well (I thought first maybe Woo Bin’s father isn’t his real father but no one except his mom knows?). I’m just hoping Woo Bin/Yoo Young being potential cousins is a plot twist to create drama but that turns out not to be true.
I also always thought/assumed that Yoo Young/Yoo Mi’s mother is in fact innocent – i.e. chased out of the house, but in fact because of a misunderstanding rather than anything else.
I don’t know! I’m just going to keep watching and hopefully it will all be revealed at some point but Woo Bin and Yoo Young will still get their Happy-Ever-After because I want them to have it! LOL.
The sisters have the same father. The dead Proffessor. Grandmas Son. Their Mother is the Step Mother of the older cousin WJ. She supposedly had an affair years ago with one of her husbands students. Who was the younger Brother of the Harpy Sister in Law.The younger cousin WBs Mother.
The Cousins are NOT related by blood to the Sisters.
Nu-uh. I’m up to ep 30 (Raw) by now.
The two sisters have the same mother, but DIFFERENT fathers. The older sister’s father is the Shrew’s younger (dead) brother – mom had an affair w/him and got pregnant.
As near I can figure, she must have hidden it until after Joo Mi was born, got found out and got kicked out by Professor.
Grandma just found out when Mom confessed to her in the coffee shop.
I hope they never do a family tree for this bunch. It’ll look more like jungle vine on steroids…
I used to follow this drama, but I decided to give it up. I was a Woo Bin/Joo Young shipper (well, I still am), yet all the drama had become way too much to handle. I know a lot of viewers are rooting for the second couple. However, I’m one of the few who just couldn’t stand them. To be completely honest, I find Joo Mi rather annoying.
I’ll probably get back to it when it’s already nearing its end just to see what will happen.
I’m a fellow Woo Bin/Joo Young shipper (I thought I was the only one here!) and don’t care so much for Joo Mi at all.
I love the Joo Mi character.
Why? For a totally shallow reason.
Because she’s Kim So Eun, whom I’ve loved since her BOF days, and every time she’s now in a scene with “Ajusshi”, I imagine replacing him with Bummie!
Sad, but true.
I’m just hoping that the writer uses Joo Mi’s pregnancy to amp up some fun. I know that the odds of that are minuscule, but hope springs eternal!
As much as I find Joo Mi annoying, I find Kim So Eun really likable. I didn’t want to develop an aversion towards the actress just because I’m not that fond of her character so I decided to stop watching the drama. And yeah, I really love her with Bummie (and I’m still hoping to see them again together onscreen one day). How I wish I can imagine it was Bummie instead of “Ahjussi”, but it’s just so hard for me to do hihi.
I have to agree with you on Hye Bin’s fashion sense. Yes, she may be a total b*tch, but I must admit that her style is impeccable!
It’s like a trainwreck, you just can’t stop looking, lol.
I’m only up to ep 26, I think, so that dad’s student’s mother in laws aunt thing is just starting, but if I figure it out, I’ll let you know.
I can’t believe I”m still watching either, lol.
It’s like we’re all ashamed.
And we’re all watching it.
RAW. (me) **slinks away, head down**
HA! Me too for awhile….I gave up watching it raw now, though. I’m following too many other things. I’m trying really hard to be more patient…
But it’s quite satisfying when you realise you got this and that right, isn’t it? After all typical melos do have their advantages
Too true.
It’s only when all these convoluted plots pop up and everyone is yelling and crying and wrist-grabbing (for a ride down to the Han River) that my frustration at not understanding what they’re screaming/sobbing about just frosts me.
It’s kinda like not understanding Pig-Latin and everyone around you is using it on purpose, just to exclude you.
I do like watching it later and finding out that I understood enough to get the gist of it. And, while I’ve been sick this last month, I’ve had time to watch things twice…once w/o subs and one with. But now, real life is butting in and once is all I really have time for.
That’s exactly what I was thinking! Why I am I watching this? But I can’t stop. Haha. Glad I’m not alone.
@Cynthia
I’m still addicted to A Thousand Kisses, though right now it’s solely due to the Joo-Mi/Woo-Jin pairing. (so. cute! and now she’s pregnant! *squee* though… have you seen the preview for ep 31? hmmmm.)
I still like Joo-Young/Woo-Bin, but God, the angst is killing me. With this couple, it seems as though everything and everyone is against them and it makes me feel so *tired*. Regarding the cousins rumour: if it’s true, then why has her bio-mom not tried to prevent their engagement? surely she of all people would know if Joo-Young and Woo-Bin are related? I’m so confused. o_O
Isn’t this drama just cracktastically delicious?!
Mom DID try to talk both of them out of it, but she couldn’t do any more than that because then she’d have to tell JY that her real father was Woo Bin’s uncle, and then everyone would find out that she’s the sister’s mother, not just the MIL, and that Woo-Bin and JY are, in fact, cousins (squick!!) and probably shouldn’t get married to avoid two-headed potential offspring.
So, between being blackmailed and having the Shrew SIL figure everything out, Mom is having a REALLY bad day.
Everybody’s in a slappin’ mood, now!!
@Plume
thanks so much. Its hectic esp wen u are far away frm home. I’m frm zimbabwe and am studying in Russia..
How come Russia? Why not Romania?
Do you study there in Russian?
I can sympathize with your longing to be home with your family…
@Plume
i actually wanted to go to Cluj and evn had my appliction forms bt due to finances don’t permit..so that’s hw i ended up here. My couse is in english thank goodness becoz my russian is poor
then catch some Russian dramas – it will surely help with the language. Or have you seen soviet cartoons? really good stuff, especially Вини Пух. Anyway – good luck
You can do it!
I asked this because many foreign students are studying medicine in Cluj…you could have met a nice community of them here. It’s true, the school taxes and the cost of living are high
.
Where in Russia are you studying?
@Plume i’m in Nizhny Novgorod actually. Yeah its a pity bt i am enjoying making new friends. Bt i hate the snow, it looks great on tv. Too cold.
@aardvarkmile yep i think i jst need a bit more time and practise. Its only bn 2 months since i started learning russian. Bt soon.
Does anyone know if THE MUSICAL was preempted in Korea this week?
I haven’t seen the raws for episode 12 as of yet and they are usually out by now.
The only time they weren’t out by now was when the show was preempted.
Hi guys just wanted to share the pretty
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5j7NitCxGs&feature=youtube_gdata_player
It’s the making film for a phootshoot ELLE KOREA’s Dec issue starring JYJ( Jaejoong, Yoochun, Junsu), lil bro Yoohwan and actress SongJihyo.
Just sooooo much pretty in a well -done vid.
These 5 beautiful people are recently from the same company, in case anyone’s wondering. The shoot is for a charity project ^^
Thanks for that clip
Jaejoong is stunning, and Ji hyo has to be one of the most fortunate girls alive. It’s like she’s got her own private F4.
Annyeonghaseyo, everyone, hope you’re having a happy weekend!
Crunch time again at work– when I get home, I fall right into bed and forget to watch dramas
If you guys disown me I shall understand!
Also, I have been rather blind… I’ve got vids with songs from the You’ve Fallen For Me soundtrack on my YouTube playlist and realized only now that The Stupid is essentially a CN Blue/FT Island combination– Yong Hwa and Min Hyuk, plus Won Bin is a former FT Island member and Se Hyun is FT Island Seung Hyun’s younger brother. LOL.
Annyeong, laya! *HUGS!*
Sorry about all the crazy going on at work. You’re so not alone. I can’t remember who it is right now (cherkell I think) but someone else is also in the midst of full-blown craziness at work, too.
NaNo novel is up if anyone’s interested (feel free not to be). It’s broken into to 2 posts and is incomplete…perhaps forever.
And now, I must sleep.
Came home from the cineplex for Breaking Dawn Pt.1. Ahh~ another cameo from Stephanie Meyer, and she favors the bride side… after all, we’re only human! From now on, I’m gonna giggle every time I find news babies born named Renesmee as the aftermath of BD pt.1.
Sillest name, EVER. Can you imagine anyone naming their child that?
On a better note, the wedding stills from BD are spectacular – and the wedding gown from CH is just lovely, along with the bridesmaid dresses.
Happy Belated Thanksgiving everyone! Yay for 4 day weekends. I avoided the black friday crowds, most things I want I tend to buy already and anything else I want isn’t on sale. Plus I abhor crowds. Hope the people that braved the craziness had a successful shopping trip.
I love Flower Boy Ramyun Shop, as much as I love Jung IL Woo and think he is killin it with this role, I simply go googly eyed when Lee Ki Woo is on screen, the fact that he plays such a strange character is icing on the top. What can I say, I like my guys really tall (I am 5’10″ myself). I haven’t had a crack drama in so long (work has been killer this year) so I am glad I can finally have a drama I can spaz about.
does anyone know why the palms of work gloves painted red?
Usually the underside (palm & fingers) are rubberized to provide a tactile grip for work gloves.

It’s rainy and cold here. He’s my favourite singer Sung Shi Kyung. Makes you feel in the mood for a melancholy song.
This is one of the better translations for the A Thousand Day Promise ‘One Love’ OST. I am not watching it but even I am touched by the lyrics.
