Yoon So-yi cast as lead in Color of Woman

Cable drama Color of Woman has cast its leading lady (or recast, after Eugene dropped out). Yoon So-yi, who most recently starred in fusion sageuk Warrior Baek Dong-soo, will be taking on the very difficult job of romancing Jae Hee in his first project since his return from the army.

I’m excited for Yoon So-yi, who’s having a good year. She’s not a new star, but she has yet to be a headliner, so this is the next big step in her career. She was great and really expressive in Baek Dong-soo as the daughter to all and lover to none. Her unrequited love for best friend/first love Dong-soo pretty much killed me. (It also didn’t help that her romantic rival was a cardboard cutout who paled in comparison to the spunky, badass Jinju.)

Anyway, in Color of Woman, she’ll be playing a career woman at a cosmetics company who’s bright and ambitious, and works her way up from nothing. She comes from an average family and is described as having average looks, which is always a hilarious description for female leads. Yes, because most women are this statuesque and born with her bone structure. Comedy. Her character undergoes a massive upheaval at the outset of the drama: she’s betrayed by her boyfriend and her dream of becoming a teacher goes down the drain. So she turns her life around by starting at the cosmetics company where drama and hijinks ensue. It’s described as a melo-comedy, so… I guess it’s going to try for poignant and funny, though I’ll tell ya, that’s not really the easiest combo out there.

Also joining the drama is Shim Ji-ho (Stained Glass, Frozen Flower, pictured below) as the second male lead. He’ll be playing the nice, warm, daddy long legs type, who’s a good listener and keeps to himself, enough to be considered secretive.

Color of Woman will air Mondays and Tuesdays on cable network Channel A. It’s been planning for a December premiere, but that’s pretty tight scheduling, by my count. We’ll see if they make it!

I really liked her character in Warrior Baek Dong Soo. She was also great in Goodbye Solo, but then again everyone was great in that sho. She is very beautiful so they'll have a hard time making her look plain. My bet is on chunky glasses and a pony tail.

Don't forget the possibility of frizzy hair. They tend to have a thing for that too.

Well, in all fairness, they all start like that...
"...she was betrayed by her boyfriend and her dream to become a _________ goes down the drain"
so we and the hero meet her at her lowest point.

Oh, because the whole world revolves around boyfriends. Right...
There are other ways to be at one's lowest. Like losing your life-long bestfriend or being god-damn broke.

But yes, it's true. Most dramas start with the female leads down in the dumps.

exactly. and don't forget, it has to be betrayal. the ex is always a cheating scumbag. It was never a fulfilling, loving relationship that naturally ran its course. of no XD

She is ebullient, effervescent, and bubbly.
She is always the cutest part of the cast interviews and BTS vids.

I hope a good director will keep her more even when she is supposed to be up, but I loved her sad and pensive faces in WBDS. I guess you learn a LOT when you play opposite sunbaes like Choi Min Soo.

She reminds me of Song Hye Kyo only with emotions.

True, of all the characters in WBDS, hers probably had the most interesting scenes with Choi Min Soo's Chun. What a great opportunity that must have been for her.

me too! They had such a more meaningful relationship than she and her actual dad. And Chun was a far better daddy to her. And he needed her to give meaning to his life. And Chun just deserved more than he got. Waaaaaaahhhh.

I wanted to strangle the stylist in WBDS, she looked terrible. I get it that Jinju was raised in the mountains etc but her hair and styling just covered up her gorgeusness.
But yay, looking forward to seeing her in this.

Totally agree.
I think they had to do that since it makes no sense that Dong Soo wouldn't fall for her instead of Block of Ice Nun! .... Deep breath ....

I don't remember another show bringing out more frustrations than this one as far as who ended up with whom. The whole series, with almost every pairing.

Agree. It was almost as if the writers sat down and said, "let's see... how can we frustrate our audience the most?"

Good to hear that she's a leading lady this time. She totally deserves it. She was amazing in WBDS. Totally dwarfed the "cardboard-cutout" (lol'd on that one, gf)

I just googled Shim Ji-ho, and I think if he plays evil (fingers crossed) he will be giving Jae Hee a run for his money with uri Jinju.

Oh, I am POINTER SISTERS for those one!

I'm jumping with joy when I found out she's finally gonna be lead in a drama and of course we know what this means. SHE GETS HER MAN! Wohoo! I'm so glad somebody noticed her performances and decided to make her lead! She's great in WBDS yet for some unfathomable reason the powers that be in WBDS kept on pushing that ice biotch for Dong Soo. But that's all in the past now. Her being cast as lead now opposite no less than Jae Hee is enough cause for joy!

So happy for her. After having come across her great performance in Say You Love Me, I was surprised that she had not taken off more.

As for her being normal, she's my definition of drop dead gorgeous. Her face can range from being the subject of a Hollywood glamor shot by George Hurrell or Cecil Beaton to being full of vitality and cutesiness to being ice queen cold to being heartbreakingly poignant. I hope she continues to grow as an actress.

Agree 100% regarding her appearance. The SECOND she came on screen (as an adult) in WBDS, my first thought was "OMG - she has Kate Hepburn's facial structure!"
Those wide-set eyes, high cheekbones and square chin are unmistakeable. I haven't seen another actress before or since who has the same look, as she does. How they're going to handle her being "plain" is going to take some doing.

Oh, and I know why else. It's not just the cheek bones. She and Kate Hepburn both have cat eyes.

Man, I LOVE Jae-Hee (who can forget his wide-eyed sexyness in 3-Iron?) but I have a feeling that if Shim Ji-Ho plays his cards right, he's going to end up charming me.

Especially if the daddy long legs character SMILES and is kind in addition to being the secretive daddy long legs type.

From my understand, Jae-Hee is supposed to be playing the rich angsty chaebol fallen on hard times trope. I like a good drama lead but these days, I've been wanting some variety :(

ROTFL!! Best. Line. Ever. Can't you tell there's no freakin' way we will let the WDBS writers off the hook? I WILL NEVER FORGIVE THEM!!!

If you guys remember correctly, this is the second time Yoon So Yi was called upon to fill in for a departing lead -- she did the same thing when "Hero" had to replace Kim Ming Jung (after Han Ji Min had left prior to that). In the Foreshadowing Department, one of her co-stars in "Hero" was Hottie Boy Ji Chang Wook. And this should be interesting, since her new show is on Channel A Mondays and Tuesdays, with his new show is on Channel A Wednesdays and Thursdays. Ah, the planets are in harmonic convergence again. :)

(thumbs-up) ;) She's really beautiful and I am sure that she would be DEFINITELY match to this drama with Jae Hee...ah, I expect that they would have an unbelievable chemistry while working together.

I am looooooking forward to this drama because of my JAE HEE and Yoon So Yi ~ ~ ~ ! ! ! \^___^/

I really like Yoon So-yi, but I'm going to disagree w/ GF about YSY's role in "WBDS."

Didn't think the character was that well written (granted, there were worse - like the "other" girl) and YSY doesn't really do the cheerful girl act well (kinda came across forced).

She is SO much better when her character has an edge and attitude like in one of her early roles - the urban martial arts action film "Arahan."

And yes, she looks fabulous in athletic gear.

she deserves to be the leading lady , I was so sad that she was only the second female lead in warrior baek dong soo and that she didn't get baek dong soo at the end even though she had wayyy better acting skills than the other actress ( sorry , no offence to her fans )
