Happy OT where the dead OT of the past is cast aside and we may start anew!
1) Loving FBRS. I’m a bit behind, only on Ep 7. I think EB should have both men. One as a hubby and one as a pet. *wink wink* I really love how the light-tone belies how well-made the drama is. Oh yes, the incidental music (background music) is awesome. Bluegrass fiddling? HELLZ YES! Hokey, ‘bone heavy music as closing credit music? ALRIGHT! Oh yes, and Ba-Wool (Park Min-woo) is so hot AND cute. I remember thinking so in My Princess. I had minor character shipping in that. He’s my fav looking Flower Boy although all casting very much fits the drama. Omg that smile…*le sigh* Come to noona.
a) THE SPARKLY TRACK SUIT IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SG references = win
2) In the Camry commercial (I keep bringing this up, don’t I?) The singer of the song that plays sounds like Lee Min-ho. I found some posts from questionable sources saying that it is indeed him singing. Does anyone know for sure? If they do, he has a pretty tone! A bit wobbly, but does uri LMHo(t) have latent musical talent as well. *swoon*
3) I’m on ep 16 of SKKS. Guh, the hotness of YAI (those lips, those lips, those lips) and JSK (smile smile smile smile smile). MY isn’t my thing, but he definitely has a sexy thang. In any case, his chemistry with PMY is awesome. And holy crap that hat kiss. I felt like he was going to continue undressing her! (Like proper Sun-joon would do that…but a girl’s imagination can run wild, can’t it?)
Hi Raine,
Yes, it is in fact Lee Min Ho singing in the Camry commercial. He actually sang that song for the drama Boys Over Flowers.
I struck everything about BoF from my memory. I seriously didn’t like it. But I really liked LMH in it. He did a good job with what he was given. I just didn’t like what he was given.
But thank you for answering my question! YAY LMH!
Gah! How could we have SUCH a different reaction? I loved BOF and HATED HATED HATED Gu Jun Pyo. Well, I guess that means LMHot played him well but I’m not really even sure about that, because I just found him unlikeable and unattractive and ridiculously over the top. And I found the ‘bad acting’ of KHJ perfect for his role, very subtle and restrained and self-protective in a much more real way than bully-boy with the stupid hair.
It was my second drama, so I didn’t know much. I could watch it now with more experienced eyes, I suppose, and have a different feeling. But I don’t think so.
Wow… to continue your point… BoF was one of my first dramas, and I thought LMH was FANTASTIC (yes, deserving of all caps) in the role, while I thought the drama, on the whole, was shit. I totally bought him as someone to hate initially, then slowly realized he was the hero, and slowly fell in love with him, just as the female protagonist is supposed to do…
Sethe, I know I’m pretty much alone in this, and I can’t really explain the depth of my dislike for that character. I have rewatched clips here and there, and while I can see why the ‘revised’ GJP would be an attractive partner…he was so incredibly awful (and unattractive) (right through Malaysia) that I would not have ever felt one second of attraction to him to GET me to that point.
Especially with Jihoo Sunbae right there being omFREAKINGg perfect.
GJP had a brief shining moment in the little ski hut but that was about it.
I’m right with you there with JiHoo. I saw an interview where KJH said the character was hard for him to play because he’s a much more “out there” personality, and playing restrained and stoic was tough. I thought he did well and I was rooting for him the entire time. I would never have been patient enough for GJP to grow up, he was a jerk far too long. I thought LMH played him well, I just couldn’t figure why JanDi liked him at all. And poor JiHoo, I just kept wanting to give him a hug and tell him to find a girl with a clue.
Huh… as I’ve said, this was one of my first kdramas, so I didn’t know anything about the formula, or about what was supposed to happen… yet GJP (Lee Min-ho) was by far the most compelling male possibility for Jan-di (and presumably, she’d end up with one of the guys in the story, right?
I dunno… I mean, I’m remembering back over the time he carried her away from that murderous crowd ( and believe me, that brutal crowd was more shocking to me than anything else), and I’m remembering the band aids…and I’m thinking ok, there were moments – but they just weren’t enough to do it for me with JiHoo right there being consistently wonderful.
you are not alone… I hated Gu Jun Pyo b/c I don’t care how “good” he turned out in the end… he was the sadistic leader that started the chain of events that lead to the almost suicide. Oh and that hair! BoF is the show that I watched.. the ending twice b/c I kept hoping for Geum Jandi to fall for the KHJ character.
Okay, in real life, the truth is that my younger (stupider) self (which is evidently the self that identifies with these kdrama females) would’ve been head over heels for Jun-pyo, but my older (and so much more mature
) self would absolutely want Ji-hoo instead.
JoAnne unni, Sethe, Shel, Soso -
I missed the action! I had to work ALL day yesterday. I played at the WINDIEST wedding in the universe. It blew my violinist’s stand down and we finally ended up sharing one stand and the male violinist kept his foot on it…guh, anyway, K-drama.
Let me clarify about LMH – I may have though Lee Min-ho perfectly embodied the part, but I didn’t like the role…at all. I didn’t like the show…at all. I did pull for the Ji-hoo character, but I didn’t like the acting. Guh- thinking about this drama makes my head hurt.
How did this post get focused on BoF….haha
As for real life…I woulda gone with Ji-hoo…actually, I would’ve gone for Bummie.
JoAnne unni – I know better than to get in the way of your Hyun-joong love.
Raine! I wondered where you were – figured you must be out doing that wierd thing called ‘real life’, though. Glad you could finally join in!
Sethe – I, too, am very drawn to the bad boys…but not MEAN BULLY bad boys, just…walk in the wild side bad boys. I never got over how horrible he was in the beginning, so I could never acknowledge his growth – in fact didn’t really SEE measurable, sustained growth, until the last couple episodes (including the 5 years later bit.) With that…in real life, he never would have had a chance with me because I’d have been long, long, LONG gone.
Hi Raine! Dealing with the elements is always interesting in a performance. We did a nighttime outdoor performance in college…we had our own lights, and stage setup, etc. But they borrowed the piano, it was in the back of a pickup. I had my left arm in a cast, but had figured out how to fake the bass to most of the stuff we were doing. We had two pianists, so while I played, she held the flashlight and vice versa. HOWEVER, there were all these little black bugs flying around….this was in the day of thick shiny lipgloss (late 70′s), and most of the women singers had bugs sticking to their lips. WE had our own problem…the flashlight was going out, so it was only providing a small orange circle of light….and there were little black bugs crawling all over the music.
I hate outdoor venues most of the time. Glad to hear you survived, lol.
OMG real life this week is preventing my OT visiting time and it makes me MAD!
Unni – I agreed about GJP. I would NEVER date him. He almost had a kid suicide and didn’t do ANYTHING about it. WTF?! Nuh-uh. Nuh-uh
Sethe – That sounds AWFUL. I Have about 70 bug bites on my legs from a beach gig two weeks ago. I have a clause in my contract about weather…and outside weddings in summer. I think I Just need to tell people not to get married outside….everything ALWAYS goes wrong…
You are welcome! You guessed it right when you thought it was LMH singing.
I wasn’t too crazy about that song when I first listened to it last year, but recently it has grown on me (I have the CD). When I heard it in the commercial, I thought it was appropriate to have it there and it made sense that they would want to promote LMH singing in this commercial, since it is LMH acting. I felt that the flow of the song went well with the commercial.
Ya, his singing voice really resembles his speaking voice! Thanks again! I like it.
BoF was my 2nd drama to watch and sealed my addiction to Kdramas. It’s just funny though, I can’t help but find parallelism with that other Kdrama ‘You’re Beautiful’ with Park Shin Hye, Jung Yong Hwa and Gang Geun Seok. They’re like the Gu Hye Sun, Kim Hyun Joong, and Lee Min Ho characters of BoF in another dimension. Then, KHJ went on to be the lead in Playful Kiss and JYH went on to do Heart Strings where they finally got the girl. Similarities much? Maybe I’m delusiona.
Nah, I don’t think you are. A lot of cult hits often have these patterns. Producers take advantage of the fact that people have second-lead syndrome!
Oh, yes. The hotness of Moon Jae-shin (can’t really say it’s YAI, cause he looks like such a baby in real life, but damn I loved his character!)… and yeah, that hat kiss… WOW. Super hot!
Maybe I should watch that one again… SO many good moments…
(BTW — can’t remember what episode it was in, but Sun-joon and Jae-shin’s butt fight over the sleeping space cracked me up for days
)
It was 16 I think. Somewhere around there. I watched the butt fight 3 times! Haha. And the kiss like….a lot. I blamed it on the fact that I ‘didn’t get any good screencaps’ better try again.
YAI is adorable and as MJS…You can have Sun-joon, Yoon-hee. I’ll take Geol-oh!
I watched this a couple of weeks ago while I was sick. Every time SJK came on I was saying, “that kid is just so stinkin’ adorable”. And I loved all his schemes to “out” Yoon-hee.
And Jae Shin….I loved him, too. I loved his hiccups, and how he protected her after he figured out she was a girl.
I thought MY did a pretty good job with Sun Joon, and he did have great chemisty with PYM, but I thought the other two guys stole the show.
Shel – SJK and YAI are my FAVORITE parts of the show. I haven’t finished because this week has been crazy for me. But you know, I kinda like that because I get to enjoy it more and KNOW that the rest of it is there for me when I get home. Instead of sitting on pins and needles from week to week.
Talking SG references i just can’t stop laughing with the ‘you got a message’ — mountawachion—. I definitely voted for SG at KoreanDrama for best drama of the year. No competition. But now that i’ve done my duty i will help my little favorites to save their honor.
I cracked up at every reference, the tracksuit, the song, the message. I had to pause cause I was cracking up so hard and missed what was happening.
I have a love/hate relationship with SG. I hated it. Or at least I tell myself that. “I hate everything except for the soundtrack and how hott Philip Lee is.” But then I’ll listen to the OST…and watch it again. Telling myself I hate it…rinse and repeat.
I don’t understand.
Could it be that while Joo Won was really kind of a jerk, Hyun Bin, in his three piece and/or track suits was ridiculously sexy, funny, silly, charming, heartbreaking, compelling, frustrating, and sooooooooo good at kissing that you just need to go back over and over to confirm he really was so?
(That is my excuse, anyway.)
Oh yes he was!
Truthfully, what kind of bugged me (as a former semi-psychiatrist) about both Secret Garden and Protect the Boss, was that they made it as if a fairly circumscribed phobia (like that of closed-in spaces [SG], or that of… I don’t even know, cause the drama didn’t really make it comprehensible [PTB]) could spill over into the rest of your life and make you “crazy”… I felt that the portrayal (for all that people praised PTB for confronting “this type of issue” in a courageous or straightforward way, or whatever), was astonishingly ignorant. I gather that it’s progress that any type of mental illness is presented on TV with any sympathy at all, but, well, I wish they’d go a bit farther, I guess.
Hello!
I’d be curious if you ever watch M2F (WATCH IT!) what you would think of how they are handling depression.
I guess the best part is they are actually showing a person with depression on a TV show and we go to her counseling sessions. Maybe it is to show the K audience you don’t have to be 1…stark raving mad to benefit from talking to a mental health professional, 2… ashamed to talk to a mental health professional.
We are so used to it with Bob Newhart’s shows, humorous films like all of Woody Allen’s, and serious ones like The Three Faces of Eve.
OMG Stop it guys!!! You’re bringing back the nostalgic scenes and it’s making me want to go back and rewatch SG! I completely forgot about his claustrophobia and now I want to rewatch it!
And I’ve got a HUGE list of dramas I still need to watch, not to mention I’ve started subbing dramas which take up even more time! (Did I mention that I’m one of those people who is semi-OCD and likes to watch things depending on the year they came out so I don’t miss any dramas? I’m still in 2009 watching Return of Iljimae!)
I NEED a time-freeze machine!!
Hi Jomo!
No, haven’t watched M2F, so I can’t comment on their treatment of depression. You make me very curious, though… (what the devil does this show call depression, and what kind of clinic visits do they think will treat it)?
Even today in the US, there’s a significant stigma to saying you’ve been depressed or treated for depression… maybe even more so than saying you were treated for alcoholism or drug abuse..
I guess Americans have been made used to thinking of drug/alcohol abuse as a vice that’s totally forgivable especially if you’re a presidential candidate, in which case they’re quick to extend you the benefit of the doubt…
I guess drug/alcohol abuse is viewed as a treatable illness these days (which is GREAT progress for my field, absolutely), but depression is still seen as a characterological trait/weakness among the general public, both in the US and elsewhere, so there’s progress still to be made.
I buy Jomo’s explanation. Felt exactly the same way.
I’m wondering if I’m quite correct in the idea I’ve had about the random person’s opinion about this…
If you’re someone seeking an elected position (Congressman, Senator, President, whatever…) it’s death to your campaign if you admit to having been treated for depression (see Thomas Eagleton). On the other hand, rehab for alcoholism or drug abuse can be treated as a “redemption” story… (in part due to the obviously religious language and ethos of 12 step programs), and you can spin it into a benefit for you, whereas I’ve never seen anyone spin a history of depression into a positive for their campaign.
What’s my point? I guess it’s basically that certain things are considered moral failings in a person who’s otherwise pretty okay (such as adultery or alcoholism), and that can be dealt with by a brief stint in rehab or a conversion to Catholicism, and others (such as depression) are considered fundamental failings of the person that damage/stigmatize that person forever, whatever he or she might do in the future…
Americans love a redemption story, yeah, and that’s great, but only certain people and certain stories qualify for “believable” redemption, right?
Jomo – That was a hot, hot, hot kiss. NO! Will not rationalize my love/hate with this show. I mean hate/love.
Sethe – I do notice how completely inaccurately these things are portrayed. Which is why I was shocked at the semi-accuracy of the child with autism in Shining inheritance.
Don’t even GET me started about the perceptions of mental health and all of its components. How is mental health any different than physical health? Why do people insist that you must be a paranoid schizophrenic in order to see a psychologist. The only time I’ve seen it widely accepted is when there is death/murder in school or after a disaster. And even then reception is…guh.
I think you’re right Sethe. I just read an article about a VA facility they are wanting to build in San Diego. My friend sent it to me because they mentioned her comments about it. Because she has two small children with mental health issues….one her own biological child and the other an adopted Fetal Alcohol Syndrome child…. and family members who suffer from depression and bipolar disorders, she really tries to speak out on these issues. Here’s a link:
http://sandiegonewsroom.org/news/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=44189%3Alocation-of-va-rehabilitation-facility-draws-controversy&catid=192%3Aold-town&Itemid=214
I think our association with her and her family has been really good for my daughter. She loves L’s kids and has learned to have patience when they are having bad days. It’s taught her compassion for their mother, too, when things are crazy my usually kind of lazy daughter is very good about helping her get kids in the car, entertaining one or more of them or whatever.
It seems that society as a whole is still a little afraid of people with these issues.
No one wishes to be ill, mentally or physically – well ok some do, but that in itself is an illness. But it’s time to face facts: mental illness is a PHYSICAL illness. Brain chemistry is still body chemistry. It is time for us to acknowledge that and recognize that it is as inhumane and unthinkable to blame the victim of mental illness as it is to blame the victim of cancer.
JoAnne unni- very well said. Seriously, so well said I was biting back tears. I work with kids who get blamed for their illnesses by their parents. The parents follow those hokey ‘cureall’ approaches. They blame them for everything. Gah.
That and I’ve had…issues in my life that deals with it pretty severely. It’s nice to know other people have this outlook.
Without going into details, Raine, I’ve had very close experience with mental health issues in my own family, and I was guilty of not recognizing the issue early enough. I spent a lot of time saying ‘get over yourself’ before I finally caught on to what was going on, and actually began helping the situation.
JoAnne Unnit,
Me too. I know what its like and the tragedy. I’m sorry to hear it happened to you. I always think, I hope it only happens to me and no one else. Here’s to hoping.
I was so busy laughing at the SG references that when the “mujawashong” message rang…. I kept looking for my cell and couldn’t find it near me… I kept swearing my cell sounded like my phone was right next to me!
I nearly pee’d in my pants laughing when I realized it was the drama and not my cell!
I’ve had this ringtone since SG first came out!
That’s awesome. I cracked up and had to pause the video.
The song is sung by Lee Min Ho and the title is “You’re My Everything”. It’s on the BOF OST. There is also one nice song sung by Kim Bum.
Anyway… I really want to thank you for recommending Zettai Kareshi – it was so wonderful! I was really impressed with the story and the cast, I didn’t expect to like it so much.
It seems that there is a T-version with Koo Hye Su (yeah, I’m one of the few people who actually liked her in BOF) so I’m looking forward to watch that as soon as I can find it online.
Then there is the K-version to launch next year, but that one seems a bit weird to me because of Kim Ha Neul – she seems a bit too mature for this role, wouldn’t it be just the same as “You’re My Pet”? The T.O.P. guy seems to be a good choice although he doesn’t inspire romance to me, as much as…ahem…something else.
Plume…boy got swagger in SPADES.
@Plume Don’t worry you are not one of the few people who liked Ku Hye Sun in BOF. I liked her too and there are MANY who liked her in BOF, too. Just perhaps not from this site. She has a lot of fans and that is probably why she was casted in the T-version of Zettai Kareshi.
JoAnne unni- I’m going to watch TOP in something just to see this ‘swagger’ you speak of.
Plume – I really want to hear Kim Bum sing! I’m glad you liked Zettai Kareshi. It was well put together and for a dorama, really well-represented the manga I think. As for Goo Hye-sun, I like her as an actress. I don’t get why people dislike her.
Watch any video. And then watch 19 and see him play someone who is finding himself.
I’m downloading 19 right now.
And started Dream High.
I only got episode 1 before I fell asleep. It was ok and the girl totalllly MISSED her high note that last song. But for a 17 y/o that vocal development is pretty awesome.
AND OMG SUMI JO! I’ve been flipping out over that on twitter. SUMI JO WAS ON DREAM HIGH! She’s one of my favorite coloratura sopranos EVER. I’m writing a post on her. Haha. And now that I’ve seen her in k-drama, my post and me are even happier.
But Dream High has potential. I’m guessing its just a slow to warm up show.
Raine,
I wanted to ask you, have you assisted in the past with translating Manga’s into English?
I ask because I have seen in the credits on some of the manga’s “Raine” and thought it might be you.
Oh no, my Japanese isn’t good enough yet. But if it ever was I would totally do it!
Yay it’s finally Friday! Though at here it will be Saturday soon.
Happy OT Friday everyone!
Stupid question: are you really from Malta? I love that island!
Hi everyone man I can’t believe it already December the year is almost over end with that I’ve been thinking about 2011 Dramas. I think out of the 3 ½ years of been watching K drama this yea , to some it up in one word is Character. I know a lot of the characters I saw this year will stay with me. They were flawed and yet everyone single flaw made them so loveable. I really felt connected to them this year going with them in their ups and downs loves and loses. Going from Dream High ,Can You Hear My Heart, City Hunter, Protect the Boss, Ojakgyo Brothers, Flower Boy Ramyun Shop. Its not to say that there weren’t other Dramas that had great characters or plot lines or that they were perfect is that I really feel like I went on the roller coasters with the characters in these shows. The great thing is there still a month left and I’m sure my list will get longer.
Also what a great year for cable I’m awaiting to see refreshing story lines twist on new character types and hoping to see some of my favorite second male leads and female get to be the lead.
Alicia, its my first year as a drama lover and I feel like I came in on a powerhouse year. I hope next year isn’t like 2008 but tops this one! I want to see Song Jong-ho (TPM) in more things and Park Min-woo (FBRS).
Wow Raine, these are exactly the two actors that I want to see more of too. In the beginning of TPM, I seriously had second lead love b/c of Song Jong-ho.
And Park Min-woo is my favorite character in FBRS. I confess that this is b/c he reminds me of G-Dragon from Big Bang, whose facial expressions remind me of my cute little cousin, so it’s like I automatically love them all, lol.
Ennayra – I’m glad someone else feels the same. If you watch Song Jong-ho in interviews you see how lovely his smile is and how relaxed he is in person. I think he could pull off a nice lead role. Please K-drama gods, give him one. And Park Min-woo. I just finished episode 10 and the chest pounding, manly man moments he pulls off are just hysterical. He can do what Lee Chung-ah and Jung Il-woo can and perfectly embody an emotion on the flip of a coin. Plus is flippin’ adorable
Oh I forgot I have to add High Kick 3 to my list I love the characters here.
Right now I’m really watching so much shows and I am to invested to give any up so here is my current drama list:
K Drama
Flower Boy Ramyun Shop
Ojakgyo Brothers ( marathoned for 3 days caught up)
We Got Married: Campus Couple
High Kick 3
Me To Flower
A Thousand Kisses
Hooray For Love
Brain
TW Drama
In Time With You
Office Girls
Real Love Please Press The Bell Twice
Plan on watching -
Padam Padam
Bolder by the day
Bachelor Vegetable Store
This list may grow longer. This list does not include American shows I am currently watching.
Man I just realized I left out High Kick 3. Its my first sit come but I love the characters and how they interact with one another.
Right now I’m really watching so much shows and I am to invested to give any up so here is my current drama list:
K Drama
Flower Boy Ramyun Shop
Ojakgyo Brothers ( marathoned for 3 days caught up)
We Got Married: Campus Couple
High Kick 3
Me To Flower
A Thousand Kisses
Hooray For Love
Brain
TW Drama
In Time With You

this is a long list!
good luck on watching everything in the list.
I used to watch this lots of drama in one go….but I’m trying to slow down my pace….
but I still love watching kdramas!
Actually I have a system for them TW dramas air Sunday subbed by Monday so I watch them Monday/Tues.
Flower Boy Ramyun Shop gets subbed on Tues/Wed.
I Literally just started Ojak Brothers and marothned this past weekend and am caught up so I’m just waiting for the subs. High Kick 3 I am on ep 24 the subs are a little slower for this one.
I have to admit that I did slow down on Hooray for love ep 19 and A thousand Kisses ep 14 but this was before FBRS and now the show is my preference for shows to watch first.
The key is watching shows that get subbed first while waiting for the others.
I stay up late so I am a night watcher. When ever a new episode is subbed I decide if I want to go addictive show or savior it watch it after. Or watch the show that I’m dedicated to which could be a dramatic show or then a more light hearted drama. I actually am an aspiring script writer so I love seeing the art of story telling. That’s why I watch so much to study of course.
wink wink.
nice system!!!!
they maybe in the future we can watch your drama???hehehehe!!
The perfect job right?! Watching dramas is work not pleasure! XD
Yeah, I finally figured out too when the recaps and subbing takes place for FBRS. I’m right there in the Net (via whatever method, pc, laptop, smartphone w/c ever is accessible at the time) by 8pm Central/US time. It’s crazy!
Just about no one’s posted yet… only Raine (*waves*)
Still watching the same:
- Sunshine Angel – really very bored of it (fortunately only 2 more episodes to go) – Rainie’s rationale for why she can’t get married is just duuuuumb, wanted to scream at her that you don’t ‘get back to real life’, real life is always happening, both in good and bad moments. But then I don’t care about her character enough to get worked up about it. Still hating An Qi – everyone seems to have forgotten that she killed the grandma too.
- In Time with You – equally, the female lead just continues to act like… I don’t know what. I find her annoyingly selfish and self-centred. Very happy to see other characters – Nic, Da Ren’s ex, etc. – telling her straight to the face what they think of her ‘we just best friends’ antics. Too bad Da Ren will end up with her…. he deserves better.
-A Thousand Kisses… some secrets are about to be revealed, hehe! Let’s see how things pan out…
-Protect the Boss – NOT marathoning this, just enjoying it. Ahhh. At least one good drama.
-Me Too, Flower! – Been sort of peeking into that, just feeling curious about it and I think I might just start watching it right in the middle!
*waves* I’m going to start Protect the Boss soon. Im currently catching up on FBRS. OMG it gets better. What else has the writer worked on? Yoon Nan-joong, do you know anything about her? I haven’t been able to find any information.
For some reason I was put off Me Too, Flower in the promotion stage. But with everyone talking about it, I might get my foot wet and see.
FBRS seems to be that writer’s first script.
About MTF, during promotion I also felt kind of disinterested, and even during the first couple of episodes I was kind of put off because, lest face it, Yoon Shi Yoon has a baby face. But right now I’m loving their performance and the story. We can’t forget that is the same writer of MNIKSS and WUF.
I wasn’t going to MTF either, but I started it b/c I didn’t have any FBRS episodes to watch and I lost interest towards the end of two other dramas I was watching (Goong and Can’t Lose just lost me towards the end) and I didn’t know what else to watch. Anyway, I don’t love MTF like FBRS, I don’t quite love the story line, I hate two of the secondary characters, but the two leads’ performances are fine and worth watching for. My 2 cents.
Never tried Goong. The manga was such a frustrating read (can we say it draaaaaaaaagged like never-ending chewing gum?) that there was no way the drama was going to be able to remedy that.
Loved Goong…that was my first drama and I was just spell bound. I think I watched it in 2 days – even took a vacation day from work.
The criticism is correct, it does drag a bit – could have been a 20 or even a 16 episode piece and would have been MUCH tighter and compelling, but I adored every moment and just absolutely fell in love with Yoon Eun-Hye and Joo Ji Hoon. I had no time or patience for his cousin AT ALL and when Shin tells him ‘this is what your love does to her’ towards the end, it truly echoed everything I felt about him from the first moment. His selfishness was so much worse than Shin’s.
I think I will re-watch over Christmas.
Goong – I’ve been flip floppy over it. Think I should give it a go?
Raine – YES. It runs a bit long at 24 episodes, but it’s SO lovely, and she’s SO heartbreaking, and HIS transformation is awesome. Plus Grandma is THE BOMB.
JoAnne Unni – Ooh, I love awesome grannies! Guh I seriously need to stop working so I can catch up on OT. I was driving everywhere yesterday so I can follow twitter and email on my phone, but OT is kinda hard…
I originally watched the first episode of Me Too, Flower!, but it didn’t pull me in. But I was reading the recaps, and they seemed interesting enough. Haven’t watched a full episode yet, but I think I’ll just jump in and see how I like it. I get the impression I’ll enjoy the two main characters, but not necessarily any of the others.
I don’t mind the “baby-faced” male lead – because there are people in real life that look younger than the are. If he acts his role well enough, I can live with that and it seems that’s the consensus everyone is slowly coming to.
Really like the female lead in Protect the Boss. That’s how I like my female leads – she’s got her own mind and isn’t afraid to speak it. Even if it’s just to honestly say “I’m confused about love” rather than playing some stupid game.
Happy Friday everyone!
Loving every minute of Me too, Flower! What awesome episodes we had this week. I’ve been laughing and crying and giggling with Bong-sun and Jae-hee… so much so that I am dreading the upcoming weeks.
And Ojakgyo Brothers! Anticipating Tae-heeee and Ja-eun’s romance……. jealous Tae-hee makes me very happy… he is so funny being all pouty!
Between these 2 shows, I am losing my eye sight.
And as of day before yesterday I am TOAST!
Jomo, save me!
I know…my eyes! I wish computers had those eye friendly screens that the nooks/kindles have!
and I need some instant hair growth serum….. I think I have pulled one too many hairs in frustration at drama plot points… GAH!!
*need coffee – runs off*
Hae Mae Tae Dae Ku-rae?
I am also TOAST which is what you become when you fall in love with Jae Hee in M2F.
Here is a fanvid for Me, Too, Flower with spoilers through Ep 8.
It is not too difficult to guess at what point in the drama I thought of this song as perfect for the OTP.
Jae Hee and Bong Su Moments
This is Megavideo so there’s some clickin’ to do before you get to the goods.
Who else is watching this show?
LIKE!!
NIce vid. Jomo, did you see the the MV of M2F made by 92Ayachan on You tube “until we bleed” ( sorry, i don’t know how to give the links ). I thought it captured quite nicely the bittersweet feelings of the show.
I did!
Thanks to my “friend” May Tae, I spent yesterday at work WSAD (weeping silently at my desk) and RGWT (removing glasses wiping tears.)
Bittersweet is right.
I wonder if there is a certain audience for shows like this.
I eat them up if it is done right*. I LOVE the angst. The mildang. The evil folks getting in the way of true love. The rewarding reunion of like hearts.
In Life is Beautiful, for example, I cheered so hard for
Kyung Soo (Lee Sang Woo) and Yang Tae Sub (Song Chang Ui) to be happy.
(*I have to add that in Men of Honor, I don’t like it. It is too drawn out with too many dumb obstacles.)
Man of honor hum. I love and hate it. The evil Dad scared me to death at first ( maybe more than his son, LOL ) then i HATED him like i’ve never done before in dramaland. I read somewhere that actors who play villains are the nicer and funnier people in real life so he must be a true teddybear.
Poor second lead : they really enjoy mentaldisturbed patients in dramas these days. I must be a repressed nurse cause i welcome them with open arms…
That’s nice. Also, I think that singer has a beautiful voice.
Ep 8 has appeared on Dark smurfs!
Currently at 25%.
If you donate money there, you don’t have to wait for them to get to 90% done, btw.
DSS: Me, too, Flower!
Two my TOAST girls, have fun …. we will all need new glasses after this season, it’s been killer. I keep telling myself to go to bed or turn off the drama, but it just doesn’t happen.
I know the feeling…but who cares if we start our days only with 3 hours of sleep?
Who needs sleep when we have drama?
okay, why is tree with deep roots so awesome! I don’t know what I’m going to do when it’s over and I’ve rewatched it twice! Happy friday dears. I hope you’re all having cooler weather, eating well, working hard, hardly working, feeling great, laughing, crying, meeting new people, falling in and out of love and expressing yourselves. Have a great December!
TWDR is indeed so awesome.. i have never thought that I will enjoyed it so much… even with JSK gone.. i’m missing him but i’m loving every moment of it.
I am trying to answer that “awesome” question about TWDR myself. I think it created its own plane of existence…..lol
Happy OT everyone!
LOVE IT TOO!!!
it’s just great, the story, the actors and everything about it!
miss JSK too! but we’ll see him in another movie so that’s fine, although I kinda wish he takes another drama!
I got my sister who refuses to watch Kdrama (“too melodramatic, too whiny, too ridiculous…”) to watch TWDR. She’s at episode 10 in less than a week! And she’s now reading HeadsNo2′s recaps as well!
nice one!!
another person added to the family who loves kdrama! let her watch another drama after TWDR is over!^_^
lol first how old is your sister? I have a little brother and I always want to tell him to watch certain dramas and variety shows, but I painfully hold it back.
School first! Don’t be like me and disregard everything just to watch dramas!
Thirty five. This is a major score on my part.
TWDR is awsome! I have to say, it keeps you on the edge of your seat just to see what’s going to happen in the next scene. Awwwwww! frustrating sometime when the show leave you hanging! ahahahhahah
That’s what I call a goood show, keep you coming back for more!
TGIF ALL!
Hello AhjummaBunnyLove! (ABL) *HUGS*
DAEBAK! Tree With Deep Roots just rocks–on all fronts.
happy friday!
A few weeks ago I watched White Christmas, aftering hearing on one of the TWDR recaps that Pyung was in it. I kept forgetting to post about it since then, but I just wanted to take the chance and say WOW!!! I don’t think I’ve ever watched anything quite like it, k-drama or otherwise (except maybe Criminal Minds?). It’s so psychologically twisted that I’m not sure I’d want to rewatch it, but it kept me thinking for days after I finished it, and it’s earned a spot on my favorites list. I’d definitely recommend it for anyone who is into psychological thrillers—it’s really worth the watch!
I watched White Christmas a few months ago and I absolutely love it! It’s one of my top 3 favorite dramas. The plot just sucks you in and twists and turns you around a few times. The characters are also well developed and well acted by the cast (which I found surprising since the majority of the cast is young models without any previous acting experience). And a superficial plus is that the cast is gorgeous male model eye candy. It looks like a couple of them have been cast in Vampire Idol as well (the “Angel”/guy who plays Pyung in TWDR and the guy with bright red hair (that he dyed back to his natural color). And I agree, if you love psychological thrillers this is a MUST watch and I think it’s only 10 or fewer episodes as well.
I agree…the plot was perfectly paced and always managed to stun me with its twists and turns. Delving into the characters’ dark histories and inner thoughts was so compelling. And eye candy never hurts! I had known that “Angel”/Pyung had been cast in Vampire Idol, but I did know that the red haired guy had been—that just peaked my interest a bit more. And yep, it’s only 8 episodes, so it’s just right for a rainy day or a slow weekend!
I also really loved that show – it was so well plotted and suspenseful. I watched it because the same writer as Mixed Up Investigative Agency (my favorite K-drama) wrote it. I like that the two shows are so different but share the same common elements – the tight writing, the well rounded characters, the lead’s name being Park Mu-yeol. I’m really looking forward to Wild Romance next year.
Thanks guys for recommending White Christmas. I’ve never heard of the show before, but started it today and now I’m hooked. The only unfortunate thing is that I have finals! What am I going to do??? hahaha
How is everybody this Friday?!!
I’m feeling better this week, and I’m counting the days for my trip. I’m so excited about it.
In the drama watching world:
I watched today’s ep of The Musical, and I’m kind of annoyed since during the first half hour all the scenes between Daniel Choi and the new girl were repetition from the previous episode. I wonder whet happened to make such a mistake.
FBRS every new episode better than the previous. There is only one problem, only two more weeks left.
I don’t want ti to end.
Enjoying right now ep 7 of MTF, I’m so happy it is out already.
About my weekend:
Trying to convince a friend to go to the Korean restaurant tonight, since I’ll be away for more than a month.
Although my family likes Korean food, I rarely get to go sit at the restaurant. Can you do take-out?
Take-outs, Yes they do take-outs. Though since the place is a good 25min away from my house I just go there and enjoy the BBQ or some jjigae
You have talked me into in.
I am getting Korean tonight!!!!
Hi zgznoona…
So glad to hear you’re feeling better this week
Thanks Sethe.
How was your week? any thing planned for the weekend?
Went out for lunch with my current workplace crush/love (at his suggestion), so I have to say things are cool (although I’ve done nothing since our lunch but re-hash everything I said and decide it was completely off-putting and idiotic).
Have to work tomorrow, and have some editing projects (for my second job) to work on over the weekend. Yeah, I’m a pretty boring person these days…
lol, better not rethink about what happened during the lunch, and think about creating a second chance for meeting.
I hope you can find some time to have fun during the weekend. Working too much isn’t good.
You’re so sweet… my heartache is ages old and doesn’t really matter, but the feeling is fresh and raw for some of those around here, so if the sympathy and understanding of anyone can help, well… um… I hope it’ll be useful.
Hello Dear!
I’ve been shopping at the Korean grocery store and making food at home. We have a korean restaurant close by, but I haven’t eaten there yet. I ate there when it was a Chinese food restaurant.
We have 2 or 3 in the little town near us (about half the population is asian) and there is a good asian market there. I haven’t attempted anything korean yet. Most of it looks good to me, but I’m not so sure my hubby and daughter would be up for it. I cook Thai, Chinese and Japanese, so I’ll get brave eventually.
We have been to a Korean BBQ place in the city where my sister lives, but we went with a friend of mine who lived in Korea and could order for us, becuase I would have had no idea in the world what to get. It was all yummy, though I wasn’t brave enough to try kimchi yet. I might now, though. I’ve found out that I like a lot of things I thought I wouldn’t.
Shel,
We tried kimchi… None of us liked it. Hubby took it into work to see if any of the coworkers would like it. Definitely an acquired taste!
I had a Korean roomie in college and we HATED her kimchi….we never tasted it, but every time she opened the bottle we were all “open the windows!!”. My Thai roomies later could make curry that made my eyes water while they were COOKING it, much less eating it. I ate that, but I never got the guts to try the kimchi.
But, I never liked sauerkraut until I went to Germany and now I won’t eat a brat without it. My husband thinks I’m loony. ALthough, quite possibly not for the sauerkraut, lol…
Glad to hear you’re doing better. I bet your stoked for your trip. Did you end up convincing your friend. Tell her ITS GOOD!
Up early this morning, waiting for my daughter to get out of her religion class.
@ Sethe; I posted your Mitt story
@ Ricky TRH: we missed you last week, hope everything is OK
Mostly marathoned Dream High, I’m up to 12 or 13 and then got sidetracked by real life. Like it so far…
Still watching my airing shows: FBRS (was the end of ep 10 hot or what???), ATK ….I may be getting tired of the melo on this one, we’ll see if I make it to the end, TWDR….several eps behind. Problem with this one is that I have to pay attention to know what’s going on, and being sick made it hard to stay awake. I plan to catch up this weekend, I hope. MOH….like it OK, but if someone doesn’t “off” evil dad soon, I may do it myself. I’d like to think there aren’t people that bad in the world, but I’m sure there are.
In real life….I can’t believe it’s December. My brain is still back in March somewhere. This week, though, I got a new great-nephew, and my little sister had a miracle baby girl yesterday. She had to go through all kinds of expensive fertility stuff to get her son, but about the time she decided it was time to start over for one more, she just got pregnant the old fashioned way. Yay for her! Yay for new babies, she lives fairly close..as soon as I’m germ free (yeah, I finally ditched the pneumonia and then caught a nasty cold) I plan to drive down and make sure that baby girl knows who her favorite auntie is!
I have a niece in Ethiopia right now, in the process of adopting two children. The adoption is final, but the embassy is embarassingly slow getting their papers together to come back. Reading her journal of her experiences there, which she’s been emailing once a week (she’s on week 5) makes me grateful for where I live. She’s had money and and iPhone stolen. She was standing on the corner holding her kids’ hands, when someone snatched her new daughter away and started running down the street. The little girl screamed and my niece managed to catch the guy and get her back…but she says she scooped up both kids (ages 4 and 6) and ran the mile back to where she’s staying. Good thing she’s a marathon runner. When she mentioned to her driver, who has become a good friend, he told her that he’s sure they were grabbing the little girl for trafficking purposes. I know bad stuff happens here, too, but that’s pretty bold….to take a kid away from an adult to steal her. We’re praying like mad that they’ll all be able to come home by the end of next week.
THAT is horrifying and heartbreaking and I am so glad she got her back. Oh my stars! I will also be praying!
OMG!!!! Shel, will be praying for your niece and the 2 little ones… and your family.
That is scary!!! I am so glad she got the baby back.
O.O
OMG!! we’ll be praying for the safety of your niece and the kids!!
I just hope they’ll be able to go back home…
Praying for the immediate return of your niece and her children.
Hey Shel!
First, glad for your sister’s miracle baby. Second… wow… hope things work out for your niece and her children.
I saw your story about my Mitt. Cute
Unfortunately, he’s had kind of a bad week. I loved some commentator’s characterization of the (current) race between him and Gingrinch (er, Freudian slip… comparing “GinGRICH to the GRINCH… so easy to do) as basically that between the high school Prom King and the tech nerd… but damn if it doesn’t look like Gingrich might run away with the nomination!
Yeah, it’s looking that way. I”m gonna have a hard time voting again…. I hate when I don’t like any of the candidates. Grrr….
My niece, E, is pretty tough, she’s seen more/been through more than most 35 yr olds. She has six kids waiting for her at home, they’ve been skyping when they can and the kids are just as excited about these new sibs as she is. When my other niece, A, adopted a couple of kids from the same orphanage, E saw a pic that these kids were in and just couldn’t get them out of her head. After much deliberating, she decided to check it out. It’s been a very expensive, heart wrenching journey. Her husband went over with her for the first 2 weeks, but had to return home to work, so she’s been alone, except for a friend she made there, since then. These kids are sibs, with their only living family member a mother who is dying of aids and was terrified as to what was going to happen to her kids. My niece has taken the kids to see her a few times (she’s some distance away from where the kids are in Addis Ababa) and has filmed and interviewed her with the help of a translator so that they have a record of their family. She’s determined that they don’t forget their heritage, but that they have all the opportunities they can have in the states. I’m so proud of her, she’s an exceptional person. I have a lot of nieces and nephews….hubby and I both come from large families….and I love them all, but some of them are just amazing, special people and she is one of those.
Some people amaze me with the sheer volume of love and energy and generosity they possess
wow… seriously! hope everything works out well for them!

Pic of her with her husband and the two kids she just adopted.
Kiss those pudgy cheeks for us when you meet them, please!
Absolutely, but they live on the other side of country so it may be a bit. They did promise to skype us when they’re home. They have really spotty internet access, so she’s only skyping her own family and her parents, and the sister who adopted these kids’ friends. All four kids were good friends in the orphanage and are VERY excited that they are cousins now.
Thanks for sharing that, Shel. Not only for bringing light to a certain cause (which is fantastic), but also for highlighting some of the better parts of people… I spend so much of my time being cynical and feeling that humanity is hopeless — so to be reminded that there really are things people can do to make things better, and that there really are people who are doing those things, is a great kick in the pants for me… thanks
My thoughts are with them Shel. We need more people like her in the world.
Congrats on your sister’s miracle baby!!!
and I love the feeling of being the favorite aunt. It’s good you live near your sister.
I live in another continent, so I keep the relationship on skype with my nieces. But I’ll be holding them next weekend. I can’t wait for that. Make me soooooooooooo happy
I hope your niece returns home with her new children safely.
I’ll keep them in my thoughts.
I enjoy having at least one sib close, the rest of them live in another state. She’s about four hours away, but it’s fairly close to my mom in law, so we try and get down there every few months or so to see them both.
Wait, what? You had me at, “up early waiting for daughter…religion class.” Hmmm.. Then a story about Mitt? Me thinks we have something in common. I too am often “up early…daughter…religion class.” And here I thought I was I was an anomaly.
Ha! Hello there! Yep, I get to sit out on the driveway and steal their internet connection whilst she has seminary at my best friend’s house. I’d go in, but if I was in a comfy couch I’d probably fall asleep and snore and that would be embarassing, lol.
And Sethe has a “thing” for Mitt, lol. His nephew was the local Emergency Preparedness guy when he lived here…he had lots of stories, so I shared one with her.
I knew it! Too funny. Where are you from (if you don’t mind me asking)? I’m in the San Diego area.
I know no one who has a thing for KDramas…with the exception of soon to be Laurel daughter. She’s a huge BOF, YB etc fan. Give her Jang Geun Suk or Lee Min Ho and she’s a happy girl. Well, me to, but I’d never admit to it.
It’s so nice to meet you! I’d love to know how you were introduced to the land of KDramas and how you find a balance. So far, I’m not so very balanced, much to the chagrin of my dear hubby. Clean the house? Never! Not when FBRS is on! Iron?! Hardly! Don’t you know this episode of Office Girls is the best and I must watch it right now!?!? Prepare a lesson… well, okay. If I have to.
(I teach TFOT during RS…)
Once again, nice to meet you!
I’m up the coast in Monterey. I grew up going to Carlsbad in the summers (I lived in Phx), LOVE SD-area. I happened on Playful Kiss one night when we were down in LA at Disneyland and I couldn’t sleep, so I was looking for something to watch on Hulu cuz I didn’t wanna turn the TV on (hubby and daughter were sleeping). I don’t know if you’ve seen that, but the first few minutes of the first ep are like “what IN the world is this?”, but once it got to the story I found it kind of fun and charming. I like that most of them have definite story run times, instead of the American way of several seasons that get progressively worse (or weirder in the case of Lost). I like that most of it is vastly cleaner than almost anything on American TV. I have one friend….actually the husband of the seminary teacher, lol….who likes some of them, and my daughter likes them. Oh, and another friend let her daughters (10 and 12) watch Playful Kiss. But, mostly, I’m it, lol. We have a huge Korean community here and several in our congregation, but we haven’t talked Kdramas yet. One girl my daughter’s age has a Korean grandma, so they compare notes on Korean TV and Kpop, but the rest of her friends think she’s crazy, lol.
As for balance….I watch in the mornings during Seminary and sometimes at night…hubby is in YM so he goes with my daughter to YW/YM one night, so that time is my own. I’ve had to limit what I decide to watch that has all the episodes out, because I can’t resist watching “just the first part of the next episode to see what happens” and turning it into a marathon where I don’t go to bed until an hour before I have to get up. Unless I”m sick or something, I stick to currently airing shows so that I HAVE to wait until next week, lol. We don’t have cable or satellite, so online television is all I watch. We don’t do any TV on Sunday…we either all nap (gotta make up for those early seminary mornings) or play games. I’m thinking overall I watch less total TV than most people, it probably averages to 1 or 1 1/2 hrs/day.
Just got to work and checked to see if you responded, and you did! I won’t be able to properly responde right now, but would love to chat more.
Do you have a FB? I’m /tammie.reber…
Reber? We’ve got some Rebers here….
Mine is Anne Michelle (no last name). I’ll go see if I can find you….
Hey, found you, sent a request. I know people from your hometown, too…we may already have friends in common.
Oh my, we do! Is it a small world, or what?! :0)
So jealous! Wish my daughters were old enough to appreciate some k-drama. Have brought it up occasionally with the RS Sisters to blank stares and polite nods. Sigh.
Most of them would probably think I’m nuts, but my two BFFs put up with me, lol. One of them has let her daughters watch a couple of them….Boys Over Flowers (not one I woulda picked, but whatever) and Playful Kiss. We do have some Koreans in our congregation, but I haven’t talked to them about it at all, yet, as I don’t know them well.
If you’re still around Thunderlyn, can we ask whereabouts you are (even if it’s just general)?
Shel, *HUGS*
That is a mother’s worst nightmare, having someone snatch your child away from you!
I praise God they are alright! I pray they are kept safe for the rest of their journey.
I have a friend who lives in South Africa and she has mentioned someone was breaking into her house while she was home, one time. Talk about scary!!!
I thought Em was either really brave or really crazy to stay until the papers cleared. Usually, they stay at the orphanage and the parents come back and get them. Not only does that make it even more expensive, but Em did not have a good feeling about leaving them there. Actually, I’m not sure who was braver: Em, for staying there with the kids and no husband, or hubby for leaving his wife behind in a strange country. Fortunately, she met a good lady at church there, who gave them a safe place to stay. The adoption agency has been very slow filing the paperwork and act all annoyed when she questions how long it is taking (the courts ruled the adoption final three weeks ago and the agency is supposedly filing the final papers with the embassy on Monday). Her new friend has been helpful in cutting through some of the BS or she’d be there even longer. But she doesn’t go out for a walk without at least two adults now.
Geez louise, Shel — your Family Tree goes on and on and on (in a good way, of course)! Prayers to everyone for good health, safe travels, and that everyone gets the chance to reunite for the holidays!!
open threaaaad!
I feel like such a noob since 2009. lol
so many unfamiliar names… lemme give you a proper greeting *bows*
I just finished steaming my upholstery and carpet and that was freaking mission impossible!
I’ll be half pissed off and half amused come tomoro they’ll be mouldy… imagine that haha.
Anywho Im camping out on Kbsworld waiting for the new 1n2d ep in about 20mins…
Adios!
Hello Jossy, *HUGS*
Have you been absent since 2009? If so, what kept you away? Why did you decide to return?
Greetings everyone ! First time on OT. Splitting my time reading the posts here and watching ME2F raw. I LOVE the old little house with the wood stove and comfy carpets everywhere. Want to mimic that at home. And the two cute lovebirds can come too if they want to hide : I’m very loyal and reliable. How to coat my heart with sugar; really i’m a simple girl…
Welcome to OT
Yay! for another M2F watcher.
Thank you for the welcome ! Yeah this show is getting really serious for me, need my fix. I’m the first surprised since i wasn’t expecting to much, but what can i say : It’s like when you say your type of men is blond surfer with blue eyes and then you fall for the dark haired mysterious guy riding a Harley. This is why i love K dramas : so full of surprises( and of clichés of course
… must be a yin/yang thing.
Just started M2F, only up to Ep 3, but I like it so far…except JB is right, the lead guy doesn’t look his age, he looks like maybe 20 to me.
Hang it there, despite the numerical age difference, the relationship works on screen.
Ahhhh, it really does!
Jomo to the rescue !!!
Not a surprise but i agree. and now that i’m done with the Ep 8 i can confirm even more that we are right. O people ! convert yourself and see the light ! What can we do to raise the ratings ? otoke ????
You know, talking about age cast issues i still can’t forgive for Can’t lose. Damn, the leading woman looks fine about her body, but her face is like 45. And she behaves like a 20 brat. I know she’s done winter sonata blablabbla but they could have cast a younger one to play against Oska nym oppa ( my guilty crush ). Preferably with the same kind of “energy” and comic timing in her acting. If they wanted to use her they should have dealt with questions like kids, maturity problems… I felt so frustrated and sorry and disappointed. one of the few dramas that i dropped midway : just unbearable.
I have so many screenshots of my YSY from 7 and 8!
—- heart speeds up just remembering —-
They really manned his look up for us to go with his deep voice…I am…TOAST!
Didn’t you think he looked like Gong Yu in the dark coat with the shoulder pads?
HA ha whatever pill you are on, I’m taking it, Jomo! You’ve got it so bad!
Me wants pilsl too…. although I think I have taken one too many of them already…
Welcome! *HUGS*
Glad to have you here!
Happy Friday everyone…
so I was basically sick throughout the thanksgiving break and the first part of the week.. so i basically spent a lot of time lying in the bed… so if u could not do anything else except lying in the bed.. marathoning k-drama since the best thing to do..
so i marathoned Hong Gi Dong and Coffee House and of course both of them staring Kang Ji Hwan.. one thing i realized that KJH of course is super hot.. and he has great charisma.. i was impressed with him in LTM even the drama is a little disappointment for me… but his chemistry with YEH was off the chart… remember the cola kiss and ice-cream kiss everyone… i think KJH can basically have chemistry with anyone even with a piece of wood i would imaging.. his chemistry with PSY in coffee house.. the phone booth kiss and the train kiss.. was intense and hot… he is really becoming my fav actors..
i also managed to finally finished Biscuit Teacher, Star Candy … oh mine.. so much fun… always love Gong Yoo and GHJ.. their chemistry was excellent.. even though it’s kind of hard to convince me gong yoo being a HS student. but who care.. it’s GY…
for the current drama… loving VP, FBRS and TWDR… 3 very different drama.. but totally exceeding my expectation…
cheers everyone!
I could watch KJH read a phone book. He’s my all time fave! I’ve seen all of his dramas except 90 Days….sounds too depressing for me. He does great comedy, but is still sexy as heck. LOVE LOVE LOVE him. :0)
I saw KJH first in Lie to Me and for some reason couldn’t figure out why Dramabeans was raving about him. I actually thought he wasn’t even good looking, but it must be the hair and how well he played the chaebol character in LTM. Out of curiosity, I watched Coffee House and then Hong Gil Dong, then I got what they meant by what a great actor he is. The guy is pretty versatile!
Kang Ji-hwan could rock a phone-book reading script. He is a FABULOUS actor. He can do anything. Except not have such a tenor voice…
I hear he does musicals…I’d like to hear him sing.
He definitely has the charisma to be on stage and you need a lot of it to be an effective stage actor. KJH learn some English and come to Broadway okay?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0tlMw2S336A&list=PLFF018DAAB1EC120D&index=11&feature=plpp_video
He sings! This is for a commercial, but he definitely sings, and is definitely a tenor.
Drooool
Since I am on a M2F binge….. here is one of the tracks..
Suzy (of miss A) – So Many Tears (눈물이 많아서) Me Too, Flower OST
I have a weak heart – I get really lonely too
Sometimes, I cry by myself too
Because I’m a fool, I only know one thing
Even though I know how to give love, I don’t know how to throw it away
I have many thorns so I have a lot of scars
Can you still hug me, who is like this?
I want to lean against you in your embrace
I want to believe in my love that I kept throwing away, once again
* Because I have many tears, because I fear love
I can’t take a step toward you although you are in front of me
If you really love me, run to me and hug me
I can’t see because I have many tears
I have many secrets, so there are a lot of lies too
Even if I’m this way, do you understand?
I want to erase, I want to turn it back
I want to forget the past love that deceived and deceived me, once again
* repeat
The wind is blowing and I softly close my eyes
I feel your fragrance
Where are you? Are you looking at me?
I want it – I want you
Because tears overflow, because my fear for love overflows
I don’t recognize you although you’re right in front of me
If you really love me, run to me and hug me
I can’t see because I have many tears
With your hands, wipe away my tears
You are in SO deep, Baby Girl!
I can’t help it unnie…. I have been singing this one and
네가 있으면 좋겠다 – Taru all this week….
*cries* this is self torture
LW says that crying a lot helps prevent eye disease.
Does your training back that up?
Not sure about my training… but I do think they help, natural eye drops to my dead tired eyes
http://creation.com/the-design-of-tears-an-example-of-irreducible-complexity
*read it for the science references, my sister’s friend sent this to me a while back and was what I was referencing in jest
OOOh like this:
Scientific studies have found that many people feel better both physically and physiologically after crying; conversely, suppressing tears usually causes people to feel worse. Persons who suffer from diseases that prevent them from crying tears—such as the rare, inherited disease called familialdysautonomia—tend to deal with stressful events very poorly.
Love the line from the Meg Ryan character in X
when she says something like, “I’m crying because I’m angry!” Anybody remember this?
X= Courage Under Fire
It’s kinda like math, only it’s just me being stupid…LOL!
“Although the exact role of these chemicals in lowering stress is not fully clear, clearly, a good cry can be a healthy response to stress.”
I agree!
Good morning, OTers!
Well, I know it’s December because the husband is hauling all the Christmas decorations out of storage. We’ve whittled down the amount over the years – it’s easy to accumulate when there are young kids in the house. Some years it looked like Christmas had thrown up in my house. Now I just have to wait for my kid to get married and start his own traditions – and send a bunch of this stuff his way. Heh.
Anyone see the final Camry episode with Lee Min Ho. It was a hoot – that car wasn’t so smart after all!
I’ve been watching Man of Honor – anyone else? Just watched this last ep raw.
I had always wondered what happened to BOF’s Ji-Hoo’s homeless, fisherman, ex-president, wealthy doctor grandfather. Did he die? Wander away? Keep treating patients at his questionable clinic? Still free-loading at the restaurant?
I can stop wondering. He just showed up (in his same grubby rummage sale clothing, sans fishing pole) over at MoH, planted on the lobby floor, curmudgeonly self intact.
LOL!
Harabogi had some side trips, too.
Among other things, he was really mean to LDW in Scent of a Woman!
This guy was bizzay:
Scent of a Woman (SBS, 2011)
Romance Town (KBS2, 2011)
Sweet Palpitations (KBS2, 2011)
It’s Okay, Daddy’s Girl (SBS, 2010)
Athena: Goddess of War (SBS, 2010)
IRIS (KBS2, 2009)
Don’t Hesitate (SBS, 2009)
Take Care of the Young Lady (KBS2, 2009)
Partner (KBS2, 2009)
Saw the final episode of Camry and i was like WTH.
The real Joon was not real in the end. The car seems stupid now
Hello, I’m a relative newbie here and don’t comment much, but I wanted to day ‘hi’ and also had a question.
How/where do you watch your dramas? I tried dramacrazy and mysoju but some of the videos are on sites with lots of popups and I’ve gotten a couple of serious computer viruses while watching off their links. Now I stick with Viki and Dramafever that have their own videos. The problem is that they don’t have all the older dramas that I’m interested in watching. Anyway, wondering if there are other safer sites.
Also @kaleido, I agree that KJH has crazy charisma and I also marathoned HGD and CH after watching him on LTM… but HGD lost me towards the end with all the political intrigue BS and I skipped the last few episodes and just watched the final.
Then I watched You’re Beautiful and Beethoven b/c JGS while wooden on HGD was still kind of hot enough for me to check him out on another drama. I loved YB and Beethoven was okay and it was nice seeing JGS with a normal haircut.
Thanks!
Hi Soso, welcome.
Dramafever should have them up. You may have to upgrade your account if you want commercial free video watching but they have them on their site
Hope this helps
Hi!
Have you tried hulu? There isn’t a wide selection but they have some of the older dramas like “Autumn in My Heart” and “What’s up Fox?”. There’s also Crunchyroll.com (which I’m pretty sure is a legit site) that has a larger selection than hulu and it has a lot of older dramas as well.
Weldome to the OT, Soso!
Agreeing with MT, for $40./year, you can commercial free access to a large majority of shows.
Beyond, that, get yourself some more storage, and download away.
Not only can you get dramas from sites like AM Addiction, but films from My Asian Cinema.
Subs are done by WithS2, Viki, Darksmurf, etc.
As a K-drama watcher that crossed over into the downloading phase of my obsession, I have to tell you there is almost nothing I can’t find with a little help from my many net friends.
Good luck! Let me know if you need any other info.
Hullu usually has what dramafever, viki or Crunchyroll has
that last one has old dramas too, it is similar to dramafever.
But sometimes the only option is dramacrazy thought I had some problems with its popups you can use it as reference and from there go to the primary source where those episodes are (youtube, dailymotion, tudou, etc)
this is the link for crunchyroll
http://www.crunchyroll.com/drama/kdrama
Welcome SoSo.
Apart from what other Beaners have mentioned, if you have Netflix, you can get the older kdramas there too.
If you’re not in the US, try epdrama.com, randomdetox.com, and dramacrazy.net. All of those usually have subtitles of popular dramas pretty quickly.
If you are willing to spend a few dollars, I suggest you subscribe to Dramaload (www.dramaload.com). Currently they have around 250 kdramas (English subbed), from 2000 to currently-airing dramas.
Most are soft-subbed so you have to download both the .avi and .srt files to get the English subtitles. The dramas are in high definition format, too.
The money I shelled out is all worth it.
Happy Friday everyone!
This week I watched High Kick 3!. I haven’t watched Friday’s episode yet but so far this is my least favorite week for HK3, it was definitely still good but it lacked something for me.
I finally watched Girl K and loved it. There’s a Kill Bill vibe (although not nearly as graphic as Kill Bill) that I enjoyed and I couldn’t help but wish that the series was longer.
I’m on episode 11 of Thousand Day Promise and although it isn’t my favorite drama I do appreciate the characters’ development and dialogue. That scene where Soo Ae’s character was lost in traffic just about broke my heart.
I am looking forward to What’s up airing tomorrow! I don’t think I have ever waited so long with so much anticipation for a drama before this. There are a couple slightly different trailers floating around and in one of them it looks like there will be a love triangle between Im Joo Hwan, Kim Ji-won, and Dae sung’s characters. I’m surprised by the lack of attention that they are giving Jang Hee-Jin and Im Joo-eun, not that the drama has been that much attention in general but I thought Jang Hee-Jin and Im Joo-Eun were some of the “bigger” stars. It’s been really quiet with the news of their characters in this round of press releases because last year there was a lot of buzz for them while Kim Ji-won barely received any press. I suspect that if ratings do well then Im Joo-Hwan, Kim Ji-Won, Im Joo-Eun and maybe Lee Soo-Hyuk will be the actors and actresses to be shot up to a new tier of stardom.
I know I’ve been raving all year about it but I’m always happy to know there are other fans of White Christmas. Even though it’s not a fuzzy drama, it’s December and that’s a good a reason as any for me to finally rewatch it. Christmas… I love this time of year.
I asked my friend who is Korean if she knew about this drama and she looked confused so I’m guessing that the viewer ratings weren’t stellar.
Ohayou minasan! Court has ‘gone dark’ today, which means no testimony can be presented due to a conflict with the Judge’s schedule. Hopefully that will give me some time to catch up on everything I’ve had to punt for the past month… sleep, laundry, grocery shopping, drooling over well-lighted, moving in slow-motion, oiled-down, chocolate-absily Veggie Boys soon to grace our small screens… ::swoon::
Dayum, it’s December already? Heck, I wouldn’t have known except for writing that big-ass rent check every month. NorCal rents have gone off-the-charts because of the foreclosure crisis, and it’s a Landlord’s Market out here as to rent increases. Having a deja-vu all over again that it’s when I moved here in 2001 and was staring a $1,750 monthly rate on a studio apartment in Silicon Valley. Ah, good times… NOT.
Sorry to report that I’m still kinda not watching anything right now that I could hold a coherent conversation with anyone in OT. I did catch the first two episodes of “Glory Jane” (“Man of Honor” to the rest of us) on KBS World and thought it had some potential, so I’ll keep it on the DVR grab list for now. But geezus, does Lee Jang Woo *always* have to play such a jerkwad? It’s getting old, dood… you tormented My Precious Changwook-sshi through 159 episodes of “Useora Donghaeya,” and now I gotta see you do the same to Chun Jung Myung as well? Whatevah. But Park Min Young looks absolutely GLOWING in this drama — better be good to her Minho-sshi, or legions or crazed fangirls will come after you with pitchforks and torches!!
And I was also pressured into singing something at our Christmas Party next Friday night. Argh. One of my team members sings in the Opera San Jose Chorus, so we decided to throw out the “Letter Duet” (Sull’aria) from The Marriage of Figaro. She’s a high soprano, and I could probably croak out the mezzo-soprano part… but it’s gonna be a slog since my range is more in the contralto area these days. Oh well. What don’t kill ya, makes ya stronger.
Starting to wrap my brain around other Christmas activities — at least I found some time to attempt a first pass at my Handmade Holiday Cards for this year. Constructive criticism is always welcome: http://tinyurl.com/cherkell-2011-Holiday-Card
And on that note, I need to start running errands and get today’s show on the road. Have a great day, chingus — be back later!!
Silicon Valley rents (and at the time, home prices) are what drove us to Monterey county. My house payment isn’t as much as that studio apt, and I have four bedrooms and 10 acres. At the time hubby was working in Morgan Hill, but we knew the commute was always a possibility. He’s done it off and on…the furthest was Mtn View, up by Moffat field. But, at the moment he’s contracted to a company in Milpitas that will let him work at home most of the time, so that’s good. He misses Apple, but they were not open to contractors working from home…their engineers like to look over his shoulder (which he hates hates hates). I think he mostly misses Cafe Mac, lol.
Cool on the singing thing, I say go for it. My hubby was tenor in college, but he rarely sings seriously anymore, and he’s now a bass. But we go to Messiah singalongs from time to time and he attempts all the male solos, lol. Just a little croaky on the top notes…
That Holiday card is awesome! I approve
Only thing I would say is maybe use a more festive font?
also, are you a lawyer?
Hiya @mellowyel — good suggestion! I’ll look for something a little more Christmas-y to brighten it up. I thought better about hanging a wreath somewhere on all that hard work of his. Don’t want to cover up The Pretty!
Nope, I’m just a lowly paralegal currently working on a huge construction defect matter. I didn’t have the inclination nor money to get through law school, so here I am slaving away for other attorneys instead. I see you’re in your first year — where at? Brings to mind what Scott Turow said in his book “1L” — “The first year, they scare you to death; the second year they work you to death; and the third year, they bore you to death.” So hang in there, ‘coz it will get better. Trust me.
Hey @shel, I miss Caffe Macs too… and I work there!! Since I’m waaaaay off the main campus, I never get over there at all. I know the pain of the telecommuter, though — I was on medical leave for 11 months and my doctors said I *had* to work from home, but my beeyotch manager gave me such a freakin’ hard time about it (scheduling mandatory onsite meetings when she knew I had physical therapy appointments; requiring staff meeting conference calls at 7 AM on Monday mornings, etc.) that when I finally returned, I turned around and joined another business area. Take THAT, you witch-from-hell! I have since learned that HR does not like lowly worker bees and other hired guns to telecommute — it’s all about the face time with them. I know that’s small consolation, but hope it makes Mr. Shel a little happier…
Even after living here for 10 years now, I have never been to Monterey or Carmel. Is there something wrong with me?!?
And with this, I don’t know whether to laugh or cry.. I was fighting off all the other ahjummas at the Hankook Grocery this morning before heading to the Fitness Center (for the first time in two months — ow!). I finally get to the checkout line, and I chirped out a bright “Annyeonghaseyo!” like I always do when I shop there (because they all know me as the crazy red-haired girl who buys kimchi and ddukbokki). The checkout girl replied with a “Annyeonghaseyo Halmoni” back at me!! HALMONI? Did I look *that* bad to be called “Madam,” hm? Why I oughtta pound you… ::grumbles::
I knew what would happen, and yet, somehow…
cherkell -
I usually think that family home made Christmas cards hurt my stomach like the covers of jigsaw puzzles that my aunt used to buy me from the dime store.
This one was so subtly holiday-ish and you captured the spirit of the beauty of the season so nicely.
Well done!
How did you choose the Letter Duet? It’s not too ridiculous right? Are you singing acapella or did you get you a pianist? It has pretty harmonies in it. You gonna dress up?!
That rent is RIDICULOUS. You can pay $1000 for a 900 SF 3 bedroom apartment in a good neighborhood in N. Colorado.
As for criticism – why haven’t you sent me one of these yet?
Happy OT everyone! gah, i am in high spirits tonight, we just brought home the bacon on our inter-office bowling tourney.
So obssessed with Ojakkyo Brothers. Joo won is awesome as well as UEE. The writer is absolutely love with his/her work. Every episode, it seems to keep getting better and better.
Swooning over FBRS. Cracktastic drama! and what a way to end an episode last tuesday. it was a real hot kiss there.
Still watching MoH, TWDR and A Thousand Days Promise.
Holy crap I had a blast screencapping that kiss. Way to go from High school kid to man in .05 seconds.
Yay it’s friday! :]
Hola OTers!
I can’t believe it is already December! My job gives us two weeks off for Christmas so I plan on spending my time reading and watching dramas. After May madness, I became lax with my drama watching so I’m excited to catch up.
Any recommendations for dramas that I HAVE to see? I’m planning to watch Flower Boy Ramyun Shop (saw the first ep and thought it was cute), A Thousand Days Promise, Ten (if I can find it subbed), and The Duo. I have a bunch I have to finish like Yacha,Scent of a Woman, Protect The Boss, The Empress, but I’m looking for new ones to start.
Happy Friday (or Saturday for some of you):)
I heard that kim sun ah wants to do or will be doing a rom-com this 2012. Could it be hong sisters next drama? I REALLY hope so. I wanna see sun ah in rom-com again.
OMG, they would be crazy to turn her down.
I know Leonardswench and I have our fingers crossed that Lee Jun Ki coming straight outta the army, abs and all, would be offered and take the lead for their Spring drama.
I have to consider whethere that match up would work…
That would mean both My Girl heart throbs would play opposite KSA!
I think I’m on board for that, Jomo! There so many match-ups I want … not enough time! But older woman-younger man dramas are a trend right now, so this could be very, very good.
I still would like to see LJK with Ko Hyun Jung in anything.
Not sure what type of script could hold both of them.
How about an Out of Africa redux, only not Africa but Jejedo where she works tirelessly on her tangerine farm and he is a pilot whose plane crashes on her land and they fall in love over watermelon?
Only funny.
LOL omg lmao!
LMAO!
Happy Friday! Happy OT!
FBRS…so amazing. I giggle at work thinking about the hilarious secretary sidekick (Pororo? He’s a penguin. [I die])
I also have been in the throws of food experimentation. This is normal, nearly every time I watch food being made, but recently red pepper broth soups have been my passion. I went crazy with the noodle soup too, for awhile (exp. after watching that Britney Murphy film, Ramon Girl)…I mention this because the irritating end slot on Ep. 8? where Lee Ki-woo appears to have lost a bet and must tell how to make ramyun somehow quells my appetite. It looks so blah. I have to fight back with colorful food.
LOVED Ramen Girl, that movie was so touching! I have been thinking about watching it again, recently.
Loved it too! That girl was one rockin’ actress.
Hi fridayers !
Some news, joo ji hoon is now a civilian and will be
working on his 1st project – a stage musical :-
“Dr Zhivago”
http://youtu.be/0rz7wUJBtSs
http://youtu.be/Qz5PZihINU0
Here I’m feeling like re-watching The Naked Kitchen *sigh*
Also very good
My introduction to Shin Min Ah
JoAnne, how is you WBDS watching going?
The Prince’s woman has her back tattoo’d, the 3 boys are grown and have just received their first mission. Wookie’s face makes me smile like an idiot, it’s like when you see a baby and you just have to touch it and smile. Yeo Woon has been my poor little puppy since the moment I laid eyes on him and I can see how he’s being set up with conflict and that hurts my 100% mom heart. I didn’t have any such sympathetic reaction to Dong Soo, who’s also had his difficulties. Yeo Woon would always be the one for whom I secretly saved the cookies with the most chocolate chips.
Jack Sparrow Ninja killed the Captain, so now he’s gone from being ‘just an outlaw’ to someone I don’t much like. And why does he always ride that horse like he’s a freaking passed out Don Quixote, all slumped over? Sit up straight, man.
Are you getting excited for Spain? I have a friend who lives here but her family moved back to Barcelona so she goes to visit them every year, and she loves it so much – I think the only reason she stays here is because her man is a pretty simple guy, a fisherman from CT (yeah, we still have them) and he can’t imagine leaving.
Woon is everybody’s favorite, at least he’s my favorite. Dong-soo once he leave the goofy personality turns into a boring character.
Sky Lord aka Jack Sparrow Ninja has a lot more to kill, but then again, that is his job as a killer for hire. Believe me, with all the bad he does he is still good.
Spain plans can’t get better, well there is always room for improvement, but I have already arrange a meeting with my old high school friends. This will be the third year we meet, and though my best friend won;t be coming from London for the meeting I’ll finally meet with a friend who lives in Montreal and haven’t seem in more than 11 years.
Also planning on meeting with my scouts friends, I was in a scout group (coed) since age 9 and I haven’t seen most of them in ages, so I’m working on meeting them as well.
My father has safe me some paint work to do at our house in the mountains. We’ve been working on restoring and remodeling and old barn into a house for the last 20 years. Sound like a lot, but we’ve done all the work ourselves and without asking for any loan so is kind of hard.
here you have a pic from the village, uri jib is the tallest on the left gray roof, chimney, and window at the frot

the picture isn’t mine though
Besides that I’ll be meeting all my family and relatives
Oh my GOD that picture…
Oops I said left when I meant right.
I have that problem some times.
My ex used to say that one they I was going to get us kill because of that.
I haven’t seen WBDS, but I just wanted to drool over that picture you posted. STUNNING!
Hi, joined this OT a bit late…just finished school. Anyway, watching FBRS, still on episode 10 but I am still enjoying it. Also started brain, which I am enjoying. Didn’t like the lead at first but watched ep 5 and 6 RAW and man that loss at the end was totally worth it. I was afraid there wouldnt be romance or the romance would be slow but they’ve really approached things head on and me likey!
Happy Friday, Everyone! *HUGS* to all!
I just typed this very long and detailed post regarding my past two weeks events. The system ate it!
So, I take that as a sign that I was supposed to just type my cares and then let them float away into cyber-space!
I will be short the second time around as I am now almost out of time.
MJP Hubby’s grandfather died last week Tuesday. His aorta burst. As a result, Thanksgiving day MJP Hubby was out of town with his family and I was home with the kids.
Found out my two closest girlfriends definitely do not share my love of Korean dramas or music.
Busy preparing for Christmas, failing miserably at getting time to practice singing in the Christmas program.
Wee MJP has his school program tonight. I’m sure glad I got additional memory for my camera!!! This is gonna be good! I want to post his church choir video for you guys to see, but am concerned about perverts watching it. I think Jomo is very brave to have shown a video of her kids.
But here is the list of what I am watching. Don’t be surprised at how short it is. OCKoala has got me into manga reading now. Reading is my first love, but I had to quit due to the migranes. Mangas are really short and have very little reading.
Flower Boy Ramyun Shop
Me Too, Flower
Yokai Ningen Bem
Nazotoki wa Dinner no Ato de
As you can see, I’ve cut my list way back! Not enough time in the day right now!
Well, I must dash to pick up Wee MJP from school!
Hey MJP!
Sad to hear about arabogi.
Good luck heading into the madness of the holidays!
Yeah, I understand the reluctance about posting the kids.
I hope you don’t think it was too risky, do you?
I have to say, since there are so few views (LOL!) of my video, I am hoping the preverts stayed away!
None of my local friends share my interest in K-dramas, thus my growing family of online ones that do!
Whaaa… what a coincedence… I saw your video with kids and dad a few months ago and last night I saw a comment posted by Jomo on a kdrama Youtube MV, so I followed the link to see if you were the “Jomo” I know. It lead to your channel and I watched the NG’s and the video again this morning. I really enjoyed it!
PS: i’m not a stalker or pervert! LOL
LOL we all tell Jomo that! **cough**
LW, otoh…has an alarmingly elevated level of of abs identifying skills.
I’m pretty sure that she could name the actor with a, say, 6″X 6″ sample of skin.
I just may put together a test to find out.
And, NO, it is not a “blind” test! I want you to use your eyes, not your other sensory parts.
I do my ab workout everyday, that’s why!!!!!
I’m laughing so hard right now, you have no idea, Jomo (and you need to go read the new SNL post on DB!)
SQUEEEEEEEEE!!!!!
And I’m up for an ab-test, any day you name.
I think I heard the squeeeee from up here near Canada!
I WILL do the abs test, too…Problem isn’t finding abs pics, it’s finding abs pics we all haven’t memorized.
Thank you again, Celexa!
I don’t think you are either, btw.
This is my third (?) YouTube account on accounta they like to shut me down various copyright infringements or what have you…
My comments on YTube try to be positive to make
up for all the NUTJOBs saying cowardly anon mean things.
Jomo,
It’s your comfort level that’s important. I am just a very cautious person. But I do think you are brave, that’s for sure!
First, MJP, HUGS of epic proportions, sounds like a lot of hectic and emotional stress just hit you.
I love reading mangas (mostly because I just started 3 years ago and there’s so much to catch up on) and I save them for times when I’m sitting, waiting on one of the kiddos to get out of a lesson. Sometimes one will read the manga out loud as we drive down the road.
Yokai Ningen Bem I just know as the anime, I did not realize there was a manga (should have known), is it any good?
leonardswench *HUGS*
I am watching the Live action version with Kame! It’s really good. No manga. That was a list of the dramas I am watching. I cannot list the manga because there are way too many I’m reading.
http://www.dramacrazy.net/japanese-drama/yokai-ningen-bem/
sigh…Kame…although he’s so skinny now his face looks like it could cut you.
Unni- it’s so sad. He just keeps slimming down. In Tatta Hitotsu no Koi was my favorite of his looks wise. And acting wise he did well. I think he’s like 125 now? GUH.
A grown man should not weigh a buck and quarter unless he’s MIDGET.
Unni – HAHAHAHA! I like my men big. If you’re 130 and 6’0 You’re going to be a pole. not my thing. One guy who was 6’3 asked me out and he was skinnier than my thigh. I have very nice thighs, so that super creeped me out.
Happy Friday everyone – hope you’re all enjoying drama-watching
Hello OT’ers!! I had a question: what is the background score being played when Chi-soo and Kang-Hyuk are conversing on the terrace in Episode 9? It will be much appreciated.
Morning, Night, Greetings all!
(so excited) Kim Hyun Joong will be in a drama in April. I know, he’s not good. I don’t care, I LUFF him.
Actively watching:
FBRS (episode 9 tonight, episode 10 tomorrow..considering upgrading to premium). SO VERY MUCH on Team Hubbie, but I am excited to see ‘the kiss’
WBDS (up to episode 6, I think? The first episode where Dong Soo, Yeo Woon, and Cho Rip are grown up and return to town and get their first mission.) Wookie’s face just makes me smile. It’s wierd. Heart breaking for Yeo Woon since oh, about the first moment I saw him. (And who was the kid? What an adorable little face I want to pinch his cheeks and kiss him!) LOVED the guy who gave up his hand, and the Captain of the Boy’s Guard. They both look familiar but I don’t know from where and I never got their names so I couldn’t be arsed to try and figure out who the actors were…but if any of you know and want to help out a lazy beaner…)
DH (started last night, thinking I would break up the old-style pretty with new-style pretty. Um…on episode 5 already, and yes, I made it to work on time today.) LOVING this. Was a huge fan of Fame when it was a tv show back a million years ago and getting a lot of the same vibe. Does anyone else think Director looks like what KHJ might look like in 20 years? And that the Art Dept Chair looks like the Japanese guy who hosts Iron Chef?
Watching sporadically but happily:
Vampire Prosecutor
A Thousand Days Promise
Swallow the Sun
Hong Gil Dong
Chuno
Take Care of the Lady
Manny
Lie to Me
The Relation of Face, Mind, and Love
…Kang Ji Hwan, yeah. Oh yeah. But I wish he had a deeper voice. It’s a little squeaky.
You can also watch this week’s episodes of FBRS at:
1. Dramacrazy(dot)net.
2. http://minyuhsubs.tumblr.com —-> their subs are pretty good and they’re generally quick as well.
thank you Saima!
Yeah, we watched “My Girlfriend is an Agent” which was really funny, but I have to say that he screams like a girl, lol. Of course, he may have done for comedic effect and it WAS really funny. Love love love him, though. Maybe it’s cuz he does comedy so well, I love me a funny dude. I married one. Last night we saw a Fiat 500 in the parking lot at the store and hubby says, “How cute! We should get one of those and keep it in the glovebox for when our real car breaks down.” (Secretly, I know he wants one….he drove a real Cinquecento when he lived in Italy and always thought it would be fun to have one)
I have the Kim Hyun Joong LOVE, too, Joanne. I haven’t seen the rumours yet about the topic of the drama, so I’m hoping it is something that suits him very well.
It was a little blurb over on Viki – a direct quote from him confirming that he will be in a drama in April while at a news conference, and then filler about how there are absolutely NO leaks and no one has any idea what drama it will be.
Yeah, I’m a KHJ fan, too. I watched some youtube vids of him on Strong Heart and stuff, and he is really a crack up. I’d love to see him in a comedic role or something where he doesn’t have to be so stuffy. As a person, he impresses me because he’s so honest about everything and very modest and polite. I saw an interview where they told him that he was popular in Germany and what did he think of German girls. He had this funny look on his face and said, “hmm….when I think of Germany I only think of sausages and dark beer. I don’t think I’ve met a German, but my impression that they even have beer for lunch!”. Ha!
fangirling alert!
lol i thought i wld nv see any love for KHJ expressed on DB. :p yay! great to see that there’s alot of us lurking ard here ahha. yep, any time he’s on screen i’m happy. if he shows improvement in his next drama, all the better. i’m hoping for more megawatt smiles + dark broody character (not angsty!) + well, if the PD decides to fanservice us with some packs, that wld b epic. heh.
just hope that his next acting gig wld be recapped in DB. its ok, we can handle the criticisms. : )
news article mentioned abt possibility of either KHJ, yoo ah in or lee jung jae for drama ‘speed’ and possibly sooyoung frm snsd as female lead. well, i’ve always thot khj n sooyoung will make a great pair for their awesome personalities but still, as a fan, i’m pretty sure i’ll still get into a very jealous fit seeing him ard any female costar. ha.
wld b happy too if yoo ah in / lee jung jae takes the role instead too. cos i miss seeing them on screen too! but then.. i’m not so sure sooyoung wld b a gd fit w them. khj ftw! haha.
ok, i’m done rambling about my love here.
Life is too short to NOT love what we love, especially and even when it is KHJ, LOL!!!!! The haters have their loves, too, leave them to it, I say, and leave us to our KHJ-love!
The KHJ bus is filling up!
Watched KHJ’s MaMa Awards interview (he picked up Solo Male Artist this year) – where he sat there and said that “Speed” was his new drama and that his world tour schedule had been cancelled for that time period so as not to conflict.
The next thing out was KeyEast’s statement saying the Speed lead had been offered but not decided upon, yet. Which means they’re haggling over money/contract issues.
Dollars to donuts, he’ll be doing the lead in this one. There’s one thing about KHJ – he’s his own boss and doesn’t allow others to make his decisions. For him to state publicly that “Speed” is the drama he’ll be doing, means that he’s decided. This is what he’s been looking for, for his next role. He wanted dark and edgy – I’m hoping he’ll be more successful with this kind of character. That mini-drama (Solo Collection) he did with SS501 was really good.
This is the first time I can recall anything like this between him and KeyEast Management.
NUTS!
Thanks, Cynthia, I knew I should have tried to squeeze in the time yesterday to watch the interviews at least. Any chance you have a link handy?
Cynthia, what is Speed supposed to be about? It’s not a remake of the Keanu Reeves/Sandra Bullock movie, please say that. I enjoyed it and all, years ago, but it’s not what I want to see KHJ in.
add me to the KHJ bus. Maybe because Playful Kiss was the very first drama I watched. His smile is amazing. I love his appearances on variety shows–the Strong Heart episode was really good.
I think he has the potential to be a good actor, so I am excited he will be doing another drama.
Leonardswench@ – Soompi has been doing coverage, along with Allkpop and the MaMa interviews are on YouTube. The coverage will amp up as one of the SNSD girls (Sooyoung?) is a possibility for the female lead.
There hasn’t been too much regarding the story description, other that the male lead is described as a cold, racer-driven personality. That’s why I mentioned the SS501 Solo Collection mini-drama they did. Seeing Hyun Joong as a knife-wielding stone-cold killer was an eye-opener. And I could definitely use another of those shower scenes from him…
The female lead is supposed to be some kind of sport professional adjunct to racing? It’s all kind of vague. I’m sure that the story will change a dozen times by next week.
Thanks, Cynthia, I will make it there some time this weekend to catch up.
I’m a KHJ fangirl too!!!!! Love his face, his voice, his everything!!!!! Especially love his (old) nose….sigh. I fell in love with him in BOF, yellow hair, bad acting and all. I so so wanted him to get the annoying girl (didn’t know what the heck he saw in her), but alas! my hopes were dashed! I fastfwded all the scenes to HIM – washing the car in that green shirt, wet paler yellow hair swishing slow-mo in the water, him racing, him munching on food, him smiling, and YES! him playing the violin, which Bad Jomo asserts he never ever finishes. Jomo, a KHJ fangirl will never buckle to such an insult, never! I did not, however, enjoy him dancing. These eyes, blinded by love, were none the less horrified by the sight of him woodenly dragging Annoying Girl like a piece of log, dressed in feathers, across the ballroom floor. In Playful Kiss, he was beautifulllll…loved him there, and he did act better there. Loved the kisses….ooooh
So now he’s in Speed whatever. Can’t wait! Miss Jung So Min though, love that girl. I don’t want him to kill anyone. He can just non-act throughout all his scenes, fine with me. Yellow Hair Forever! Ever!
JoAnne unni- MY ONLY complaint about KJH is his voice. He’s brilliant in HGD. And everything, but HGD is a fav of mine. YOu HAVE to tell me what you think. And also tell me what you thought of FBRS ep 10!!!
As for the KHJ bus…totally not on it. BUT I’m interested in seeing whatever he’s in. I always hold out for actors I dont’ like to prove me wrong:D
Raine, I think my reaction to Ep 10 FBRS is different from most. I do agree that the kiss was completely swoon-worthy and literally made my heart beat faster…but I still believe he acts like a kid (ok, a kid who kisses WAY too good), and maybe I’m projecting but I think she responds quite emotionally to Kang Hyuk whenever he touches her or says something sweet. I’m feeling heat there.
I’m not sure HOW to read her reaction to his holding her hand in the movie theater – she didn’t get googly, she definitely looked surprised by something, but given her previous responses to him I’m not ready to say she was surprised to feel nothing, as others believe.
I honestly am not sure she’s going to end up with either. If she does date jailbait (Chi-soo…hehe) for a little I think it will be a growth dating, not a permanent situation. I would love to see her with Tall Guy (Kang-hyuk, but when I write about him he is TG) I totally think that she could have a slow building love with TG.
I think the actress herself has the hots for both guys so the chemistry is there. But I really how the show isn’t totally making her feel ‘the friend’ vibe from Kang-hyuk from square one. makes it more interesting.
I just started watching Flower Boy Ramyun Shop and I can see fun and fluffy weeks ahead. I might actually finish it hehehe
Hey Rebecca, I hope you read this!!
I’m in China and its awesome, although my internet connection is dodgy. Got your email about the Xmas ninjas, so freakin cool, will reply if I can
Just finished Secret Garden this morning :3
Also, lied that I’m a lesbian because people were pissing me off…
Love you! =]
Helloooo OT-ers!
Now, I have a VERY, VERY important question : does anyone here know the korean name of the hairpins gisaengs or Joseon noble ladies wear ? In hangeul and romanji, if possible
I am currently planning to apply at a famous Art university for a Jewellry Design BA, and I wanted to do a whole research notebook on them (they told us to express what we’re passionate about, how could I miss putting in Kdrama knowledge ? hehe. Plus these hairpins are an amazing potential source of inspiration.) but I can”t seem to find the original name on the internet – and I’m totally not korean, so I can’t ask a family member or anything. I’d be SO grateful to whoever could tell me ^_^
Other question, though less important : I just downloaded a hugh bunch of indie korean songs and am particularly enjoying bands/singers like Ibadi, Mad Soul Child, Raspberry Field, Winterplay, Yozoh… Do you guys have any other recommendations for me ? I am open to anything, from a simple duo voice/guitar à la Yozoh to more Lady Gaga-esque W&Whale (disliked her song Break It Down, loved R.P.G. Shine and Moonlight).
And, to finish… FBRS is cracktastic ! WOO-HAY FOR THE WOO-BOYS !
I don’t know, but what a great idea!
The hairpins as plot device, or way to separate the classes in the sageuks are so meaningful.
Good luck with it!
I believe it’s called dduljam
Good luck
I mean sonjjang
Thank you so, so very much zgznoona ! Both words are very helpful ! Do you also have the hangeul name by any chance ? I’ll probably be able to find more sources/images if you do, and the more, the better !
손짱 = SONJJANG
떨잠 = Dduljam
Perfect ! Thank you !
The Nutz
Not sure which hairpin exactly you mean, but I’m sure you’ll find them here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Korean_clothing#Headgear
I’m guessing it might be Binyeo (비녀), which often seems to play a role in Sageuk dramas.
OMO ! I love yoooooou !
found what you’re looking for? I’m glad I could help.
Good luck with your application and let us know how it goes!
Seeing that you only mentioned noble ladies and Gisaengs you could also be looking for Tteoljam (떨잠 I think)
This is… perfect ! I couldn’t ask for more !
And, sure, I’ll let you know about my application – I’m still hesitating between Product Design and Jewellry Design BAs, with a strong inclination for the second one – and will only have the results around… Marcha, I guess ?
But if the notebooks turns out well, I’ll try and post pictures of it on the OT in the weeks to come. Maybe. (:
Please post! I would love to see. GL!
Sesame and Cotton Seed have a self-titled album that I love. There are other k-indie artists/albums that I adore…I’ll peruse my collection when I get home. I’d love to know who you’re into, though, mirabeau.
Apart from the ones I wrote above (Ibadi, Mad Soul Child, Raspberry Field, W&Whale, Winterplay, Yozoh…), I like Dear Cloud, Donawhale, Lucitte Rabbit, Urban Zakapa… Most of the musician that work under Fluxus are great, actually (:
And please do tell me your favorites when you get home, I really want to widen my k-indie scope on my Itunes haha.
I like quite a few in the list and will definitely check out the ones I don’t know yet, sounds promising
Do you know 루시드 폴 (Lucid Fall)? I like his music, it’s very mellow, mainly acoustic guitar, and as far as I can tell the lyrics are pretty good, too. 어른아이 (Adult Child) and 푸른새벽 (Blue Dawn) also quite nice. Same kind of style.
Haaa, Adult Child. Just like for Tearliner, those were my beloved Coffee Prince days.
I’ve never heard anything of the other two before though, I’ll definitely check them out ! Thanks !
Standing Egg, Clazziquai/DJ Clazzi, Symmetry, Nell, Tearliner, The Koxx, Idiotape, Apollo 18, One More Chance, 10cm, Bye Bye Sea (Annyeong Bada), Mimi Sisters
Omo, love Clazziquai, Nell, Tearliner and 10cm. Haven’t hear about the others, though, I’ll check them out ! Thanks
Listening to Alex’s most recent release “Just Like Me” on this foggy NorCal morning… his ultra-smooth voice is just like buttah melting over pan dulce… me likey lots!! Also on repeat listening is Tablo’s latest (“Fever’s End”), some Baek Ji Young and Huh Gak singles (love love love their voices!), and when I found some strength yesterday and decided to *finally* clean my apartment, had to put on some Leesang to get the juices flowing.
But my Crack of the Moment: Jang Gi-ha and the Faces! Oh my gosh, what goofy boys with goofy lyrics… but still awesome in their musicality! I’ve been listening to them ever since JB talked about them here waaay back in early 2009 and I decided to check them out. Quirky and listenable hits my heart each and every time!
Totally crystal clear down the coast here today….has been for almost a week now. Very weird for December, it’s supposed to be rainy. I think we’re finally having the clear fall weather that we were supposed to have in September/October.
My housecleaning music is weird mash up of kpop, blues, 70′s rock (think Rush, Yes), 50′s bop, swing, lol. My husband says it’s the strangest playlist he’s ever heard. But, my daughter and I like it cuz it keeps us moving…
oh sorry, the link isn’t quite accurate, scroll down a bit until you get to accessories
I forgot to tell you all that I found the movie Blind (the one with Kim Ha-neul and Yoo Seung-ho ) on youtube, here you have the link
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ags6yQVMKTE&list=LL16ofytuxXLnc00KLcio0Iw&index=1&feature=plpp_video
Good film! Great suspense and acting.
There are a couple of shots of YSH where he looks like he stepped out of a manga, as usual.
I remember hearing that title and thinking I wanted to watch it, although I don’t remember what it’s about now…but thanks!!!
It was excellent!
I can see why KHN got her Best Actress award for her role in this one. It was a good watch!
Totally going to watch this
What a delight Nodame Cantabile turned out to be. I fell in love with Chiaki especially in the two Specials that followed the drama. So now I have a Japanese crush – Tamaki Hiroshi. I wish I can find all the discussions on this drama in previous Open Threads.
I must admit experiencing some shock in the opening episodes though as I was expecting something more ‘sober’ along the lines of Beethoven’s Virus. It took me till the 4th episode to get on board. But I ended up loving all the actors, the music and of course Chiaki!
Now to get hold of the two movies. Are they as good?
I loved Nodame Cantabile too! However, I thought the 2nd season wasn’t as good as the first. The movies were pretty good too, but also not as satisfying somehow as the 1st season.
You can watch the Nodame Cantabile movies (The Final Score, Parts 1 and 2) here:
http://www.filestube.com/282c387c62b3b0dc03e9,g/Nodame-Cantabile-The-Final-Score-Part-1-2009-JAP-DVDRip-XviD-AXiNE-cd2.html
The link connects you to MegaUpload. You can then watch them on Megavideo. Or download them if you have a premium subscription.
I like the two movies because they provide a good closure to the story of Nodame and Chiaki, both in their careers, and in their personal relationship.
And the music collection for the movies are daebak. Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture is one of my favorites. And, Nodame and Chiaki get to play again Mozart’s Piano Sonata for Two Pianos.
Great! Thanks Jennifer and Dramabliss.
Jadielaw – I seriously bought everything after watching it. I LOVE this dorama. LOVE. LOVE. Could be because I was in music school for 6 years and loved to see my plights acted out (in crazy scenarios…but this is dorama after all). Or because of Ueno Juri and Tamaki-san. I love his horrified expression.
Hi Raine. I have bought the drama, the specials and have the movies on order. Definitely all worth it.
Hey All…it’s been a long week. (actually my cube-mate and I decided that each day has been long, but the week itself has gone fast) If I wasn’t sure, I could tell by how daunting reading162 comments is. I don’t have it in me now, but there’s 2 whole more days of weekend yet, right? Right!
Anywho, hihi all
Hope you’ve all been good. I shall comment later.
Hey there, cmr, good to “see” you!
CMRprindle!
*HUGS*
I was daunted at the number of comments also because I had so little time. So I did what I had to do and came back later! I’m just taking them one at a time.
I want to respond to everyone, because that’s just me, but I am purposefully not so that I don’t spend my whole day reading and typing.
p.s. I left you a message in our “hangout.”
hey OT-ers!
Been a minute since I’ve been on here… law school has taken me and won’t let go. About to go into a marathon two weeks of finals for semester 1, year 1. thoughts/prayers/good vibes much appreciated.
I have found time to procrastinate with k-dramas, though, and I LOVE FBRS. Also can’t wait for vacation so that I can watch TWDR and a bunch of older ones I’ve been meaning to get to.
I also had a great idea the other day: wouldn’t it be fun to create our own drama? I came up with an idea for a drama the other day, and thought it would be fun to write it here and do fantasy casting and stuff like that. So here’s my idea:
Title: Ebb And Flow
Theme: Love is never static, always changing.
Main couple: guy in a good stable relationship finds himself falling for another girl; is it love or not? other girl has dated a string of guys and is pretty sure she’s tired of love. they sort of circle around each other, trying to figure out if it’s worth the plunge.
side characters:
recently divorced couple working out their new lives, a divorce lawyer wondering if marriage is worth it or not, young couple dealing with an unexpected pregnancy
Thoughts? Anyone else with a drama idea should post it too!
Don’t get mad now, when someone from Korea (they read this website a lot) goes and uses your idea!
Really ? They do read us ?? I didn’t t know we had so much influence… Good to know ! Now, bucket list :
- writers to threaten
- actors to stalk
- producers to subdue
- hair stylists and wardrobe assistants to bribe
- cute actor kids to adopt
- nice houses seen in dramas asked to do couchsurfing
…… add your ideas…..
locations to take pictures at (Han River! Pretty Gardens! lobby of TV station headquarters which is in every drama ever!)
cute restaurants/coffee shops to eat at
I won’t – I’ll be glad actually, cos then I can get something different from the norm. It’s always the heroine’s first or second love, or the guy has a pissy ex-girlfriend. it would be nice to have a different sort of main pairing for once?
if i come up with something i think is REALLY good though, I’ll probably just write it myself and then sell it to a better writer, lol. save myself the intellectual property woes.
there is a mini series called couple braking that deals with some of that stuff
you can find it in dramfever
http://www.dramafever.com/drama/208/1/Couple_Breaking/?ap=1
ooh, this looks fun. will check it out – thanks zgznoona!
So freakin’ hilarious. Thanks for this. It’s Soulmate-esque… awesome!
watching TWDR has got me thinking about the order of korean history. Dramabeans, cld u do a post which give a condensed history of the diff dynastys n list the different saeguk dramas (& the corresponding fictional heroes i.e. iljimae, hong gil dong etc) that were based on the different periods? a lil mind boggling!
oh n King Sejong in TWDR mentioned about the rise of the officials with the rise of usage of Chinese characters… so what system of words did they use prior to chinese (if there were any? when did korea become a tribunary state to China?)
dying to know the impact of sejong’s implementation of hangul on society, the changes, resistance and evolvement on the society brought about by this new system of words. why did king sejong had so much brain n foresight? i’m in awe!
Hi amelia,
That sounds like a very time consuming task! I can’t speak for JB, but I assume from previous writings, she is a very busy woman.
Maybe you could start researching Korean History, if you’re really interested in knowing, then piece it all together and present an article to JB and she may post it, who knows? Or just create your own blog like a lot of people here do and post it there.
Sounds exciting! I hope you can do it!
Korean history through K-drama – that’s actually not so difficult. Methinks. At least not if the timeline is done using the big ones.
Koreans have used the Chinese script FOR EVER!! There is no prior. And the question probably isn’t when did Korea become a tributary state to various “Chinese” states. It’s probably when was it not.
K – I’m starting one. Perhaps when it’s a bit fleshed out, I’ll post it here or somewhere for others to further flesh out?
Here you go. You can thank my OCD.

I’d say.
Impressed.
::clapclapclapclapclap::
I bow to your researching greatness, @anais. I wish I could be that focused!!!
(making list of other sageuks to watch when weather gets nasty…)
This is very useful and interesting information. Thanks so much anais!
TGIF everyone! Hope all had a great week of dramas!
I know I did! Can’t wait for FBRS AND TWDR! I’ve gotten back into MTF—Kiss between them at the restuarant…WoW! That was deeeeeep! They were sooo into it! hehehe (sigh) I have to wait until the next episode is subbed to watch.
Other dramas I’m watching:
Real love please press the bell twice–last episode was awsome but the preview for the next episode..goshhhh, more problem/complication in their relationship! EErg! hate when they do that!
waking love up—can’t wait for sub!
Office girls–awsome as always! finally, they are going out! sooooo sweeet!
Royal Harem—chinese drama—so far so good. Just need more segmenter and subbers to help sub this drama on viki.
Ahhh…. I got the header of Gong Yoo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
“Lucky, lucky bastard” (to quote my favorite Monty Pythons)
mirabeau – you just got extra cool for quoting Monty Python
I read that as, “Ahhh…. I got the head of Gong Yoo!!!!” And I thought, gee that’s too bad, he was so cute.
lol
Good thing I was done drinking my coffee when I read this comment. I could have choked. I laugh so much
LOL KIKI!!!!!
LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL……………..
HAHAHAHA! I freaked my cat out laughing so hard.
Wow its been a while since I commented on here. Hello my friends! Sorry I’ve been out for a while. Life, death, school and work took over…mostly death
I haven’t watched drama in a while! what should I watch first? any recommendations?
I very recently started writing on a blog and I was wondering if I could get some critiquing from my cyber friends. Although it has nothing to do with kdrama I’m hoping I can get some comments of how to improve.
Please help me out and fill me in on dramas!

Happy Friday everybody!
First time posting something on Dramabeans OT since I today seems to be a good day to finally do it. I just feel like pouring my little heart out
Nowadays my feelings go back and forth between disappointment and sadness that a lot of people think I’m weird for being so invested in Korean culture and totally ecstatic that I found a friend who finally shares my interest and isn’t resistant against my recommendations when it comes to K-dramas. On the other hand when it comes to my best friend with whom I’m not sharing many interests with anymore anyway, she just gets annoyed if I just do as much as mentioning something about Korean Dramas. It makes me depressed to realize that we are growing apart more and more everyday and that there’s not much we can discuss with each other either… Of course this is not only about our hobbies and interests but many other things as well, so sometimes I feel kind of scared that we are going to lose touch one day.
I have the same feelings for my favorite Drama at the moment, M2F. It has totally sucked me in and it’s making me so impatient to watch the next episodes that it sometimes interferes with my daily life.
Plus, I can really feel the pain the both protagonists are feeling too. I think after watching K-dramas for more than 3 years this is the first time where I can identify myself with the characters because their pain seems so palpable and real. The same goes for the way they fall in love with each other.
SPOILER
Especially in EP8 I couldn’t help but think that this is exactly the way people behave when they are freshly in love. The way they were always touching, even if it’s only their feet, the way they smile at each other etc. SPOILER END
So, I guess what I actually wanted to say is I love M2F!
Welcome Momo! *HUGS*
We all go through the issue with the friends when they don’t like our Asian dramas.
Welcome to the club Momo !!! Yes M2F rocks !
: CURIOSITY in life is always a good thing and can bring you more than what you asked for.
I love FBRS as a funny show, but i already know that the one show who stealed my heart is M2F. The scenes will stay tattoed. One thing about losing your best friend : It happened to me 2 years ago and we knew each other for … 23 years so you can imagine. But it’s like for love : When you no longer share the same vision on life and when the relationship becomes more a burden than a pleasant thing, all you have to do is move on. I KNOW it hurts, and it hurts as much as you liked the person. But if you artificially cling to someone, ( and try closing your eyes on the matter like i did for a while, thinking it would get better… ) it brings no good : deception and bitterness, emotional toxicity. Life is all about that : changes, evolving, trying to catch all the good things that come to you. Ironically that period in my life made me discover asian dramas, Korea and its wonderful culture, the world community and the friends who share sincere interest in all those things. So all i can say is FIGHTING !! Take exemple on Jae Hee
Awww, thanks for the nice welcome
I always thought the dramabeans community is really awesome, but most of the time I’m more of a silent lurker. Don’t know why I decided to change that just today.
Yes, I know my best friend since kindergarten as well, so even though I know that our friendship is kind of dysfunctional for a long time already, it’s not easy to accept and move on. But thank you a lot for your heartfelt advice.
I’m a person that cannot let go of people easily once I got attached to them but I guess at this point it’s kind of unavoidable that we will lose touch more and more especially since I decided to move abroad soon and staying in contact will cost even more effort from then on.
And what you said about M2F is exactly what I think right now as well. There are scenes in this drama that have left such a great impression on me that I will probably never forget them. Not many dramas have done that for me so far.
I watched FBRS first and thought it was totally awesome so I was kind of reluctant to watch M2F at first because I thought nothing could top FBRS at that moment but I’m so glad I started it after all. Somehow that drama changed something in me and I just hope that it will continue to be this amazing.
I know a lot of people think Yoon Shi Yoon looks to young for the role and at the beginning I thought so too, but after discovering his charm and acting skills I don’t even see the age factor as a problem anymore. Jae Hee is a complex and very interesting character and Shi Yoon portrays it perfectly in my opinion.
Momo, BIG HUGS and welcome.
I think we all have been there. None of my friends or family share my interest in Korean movies and dramas.
When they ask me if a know of any good movie and I recommend a korean movie they make a face and say “Korean again”
My dad complains because I’m “always watching those Chinese people” and so on.
But the great thing is that we have this place among others to share our love and talk about those great dramas.
I’m loving M2F too, though it’s walking towards the melo now.
LOL zgznoona!
I had a girlfriend tell me yesterday that I sounded “funny” when I was telling her about Super Junior. She said that maybe Wee MJP is so wild when he dances and sings and jumps because he likes to watch their videos. And the way she said it sounded like that was unacceptable behavior.
I guess we all sound funny to them, but we have fun and they just look and judge.
In any case how old is Wee MJP? as far as I know all toddlers dance kind of crazy. That is part of the magic of their age. If he were listening to Lady Gaga I’m sure she’ll say he dances crazy because of her.
THat’s probably true. My daughter was a crazy dancer…she started bopping to the music when she was only 9 or 10 months old. If there was music on (usually her dad’s blues music), she’d be bouncing up and down. By the time she was three, she was a dancing maniac, lol.
We go to this local fish/chowder restaurant where they have live bluegrass. She was always dancing in the aisles, pulling her dad up to dance with her. A couple of years ago, the lady bassist came up to me and said, “you guys have been coming here for a long time…is this the same little girl who used to dance in the aisles?” She was about 11 and already “too cool” for that.
You should see my friend’s 10 yr old dancing to Michael Jackson. Ha!
zgznoona,
Wee MJP is now 4 so I guess he is no longer a toddler but a preschooler. I always thought they were toddlers then kindergartners, but things changed. I keep calling him a toddler and then have to correct myself.
i guess im very fortunate that even tho my best friend for 14 years is not very much into kdrama, she never stops me from rambling on and on about all things kdrama. that’s what a friend is for. to hear you out even when she thinks what you’re saying doesnt interest her. but then again, it may be because being malaysians, we adapt to foreign culture more easily?
sorry to hear about you feeling like ur losing ur best friend momo.
What does M2F stand for? Seems interesting
Me too flower ( i agree : silly name and totally meaningless even for Kdramas used viewers ). But i guess they are currently really “into” flower themed titles “… and veggies
… but it’s another story !
6PACK!!
Woot!!
So once the choco-absy vegetarian bachelors are done planting veggies and showering in the halo of light, what are they going to do? Maybe have meaningful conversation like this:
6P1: Yo, bro.
6P2: Yo.
Silence.
6P3: Abs itch, bro.
6P4: It’s all that showering, bro.
6P5: Yeah, I’m cutting mine down to 100 a day.
6P6: Yeah, bro. Me, too.
Silence.
Scratch, scratch.
6P1: I’m bored, bro.
6P2: Yeah, me too.
6P3: Let’s take a shower.
6P4: You got the veggie oil?
6P5: Yeah. Not much left, though.
6P6: Told you guys to quit drinking that stuff!
Note to Self: DO NOT read @YY’s comments so early in the morning with a mouthful of coffee…
You forgot to add (all 6 together): “Let’s go back out to the fields and harvest more veggies so we can press more veggie oil for our pre- and post-shower rubdowns.” Then they wander back outside, while a montage plays of of our 6Pack taking their shirts off in slow-mo, with the BVS theme song playing in the background reaches a crescendo… ::fanning self::
Yo. 17 days… 17 days… 17 days…
Welcome, Momo! and BIG TEXAS SQUEEZIN’ HUGS!
Yes, been there, have the tee shirt, hard to let go, please try to remember we will all be behind you in your Kdrama love.
I LOVE M2F, too, but I’m going to get behind now that “Santa’s Workshop” has opened at my house! I am going to collapse on Dec 26 and catch back up on everything!
Hi Momo, I never comment on these (too shy) but i just wanted you to know you’re not alone. My friends think i’m absolutely insane ,and many of them stopped talking to me.It can be sad sometimes but at the same time I think it shows you something about your friends. I hope things go well for you in the meantime!! btw I’m totally in love with M2F i already liked YSY but now i think I’m absolutely enamored with him!
Thanks all of you! And a BIG GERMAN HUG back even though German hug doesn’t sound as warm, as texas hug for some reason
I read somewhere up there that a Korean celebrity thought all Germans are eating sausages and drink beer all the time and found it really funny
I was feeling pretty down yesterday, but now I feel much better after reading all of your replies. I guess a lot of people get to this point one day where they feel kind of alone with their interest in K-dramas and I shouldn’t take it too seriously that some of my friends think my hobby is weird. I mean I have a male friend who’s totally into cars, which I don’t care for at all but I still listen to him when he rambles on and on (not that I understand what he’s saying but at least I’m listening to him) so I guess I could expect the same from my friends.
I read somewhere up there that a Korean celebrity thought all Germans are eating sausages and drink beer all the time
Don’t’ most Americans think this of Germans? Isn’t that why so many Americans visit Germany during Oktoberfest?
Momo, friendships come and go. They will change as you and your friends change. Think of it as your gracing the life of another person and vice versa, for however long Life deemed it good for you to share the road. Then, let go of friendships graciously, so that both you and your friend can grow into the persons you want to grow. Life will send you other people who will walk with you. And sometimes, it’ll send you the same person more than once, and each time you’ll find that – though you both have become different – you can still share that road. I’ve so many friends all over the world, friends I haven’t seen in a long time, but friends who will be glad to see me and whom I’ll be glad to see if/when we next see each other. And for that, I give thanks.
That said, until Tree With Deep Roots, my favorite sister (yes, I am a bad sister who plays favorites) REFUSED any and all things Korean drama. The most she would do is tune me OUT whenever I needed to gush or rant. Thirty-some years of that. Grumble grumble grumble.
Momo@
“I read somewhere up there that a Korean celebrity thought all Germans are eating sausages and drink beer all the time”
I feel a little guilty ratting out “my husband in an alternate universe”, but the celeb that uttered those words was Kim Hyun Joong during his MaMa interview (boy was exceptionally busy that day).
He was asked what he thought about German women, said he didn’t know any and then tried to change the subject and came out with his usual 4D response – and, he thought that Germans drink beer at lunch, too.
I think he was really trying to be complimentary, since alcohol and snacks are his favorite go to subjects.
Momo – Friends. I’ve come to this philosophy about friends.
There are different friends for every part of your life. They fulfill different functions. Work friends, play friends, friends you chat with into the night with, friends you try new foods with. They come and go, even when there is history.
It’s sad. But that footprint they left behind will always be an influence, and hopefully a comfort, to you. But it’s also not sad. Even when a friend isn’t in your life anymore, they still shaped you. The beauty of friendship is that even when it ends, you’re a different and better person because of it.
I’ve lost 2 best friends in my life. Now that they’re gone, I’m grateful for the time I had.
Wow its been while since I commented on here. I’m sorry I’ve been absent. Life has a way of getting in the way…
Gosh I haven’t watched drama in a while! how has everyone been? what should I be watching? please fill me in.
Right now I’m working on my school final project which is to manage a blog till June next year. Its on customer service. I was wondering if I could get yourselves to critique it for me. None of my friends in the real world actually read so I’m officially lagging behind with a possible F! please help me! I have to graduate lol
But seriously what should I watch first?
http://lyfizgud.wordpress.com/
Good to see you, Marteki! *HUGS*
What do you want to watch? Sad or happy rom-com? Historical? doesn’t matter?
I would recommend Greatest Love, Scent of a woman, and Flower boy Ramyun shop(–airing right now).
Thanks! *hugs* right back! I don’t want sad..not the right time. I’m looking for fluffy! I see a lot of talk about flower boy ramyun shop but I can’t find it on viki
I’m surprise that viki doesn’t have FBRS….but oh well…they only have so much dramas on there–meaning theres alot but not not quite all. LOL I help seg there and if they had FBRS, I am so in.
Try dramafever or dramacrazy.net. That’s where I watch it.
dramafever or dramacrazy.net have it
its awesome give it a try
I was surprised viki didn’t have it too! …thanks I’ll check it out on those sites
How is everyone doing?
Marteki dear,
I read the first one Ms Just N. Fair. What type of feed back are you looking for? I can be very straightforward… Not sure you want my opinions. But I will say that you may want to correct your spelling on “maneuvering”
If you want me to be honest with my opinions, let me know. I won’t sugar coat it.
yes please give me your feedback without any sugar. I can only get better with the truth. lol my “maneuvering” mistake has been noted..I wish I had seen that before my prof did -_-
could you email me? markndmark@gmail.com
Happy weekend everyone ^_^ Just watched FBRS Ep. 9 & 10 last night.. And OMG, what an ending and whatta hawt preview of ep. 11. The hottest kiss of 2011 perhaps. Oh Monday come now ^_~
It’s hard to say…that CH kiss rocked my world…
Question: Does anyone else think that in Flower Boy Ramyun shop there is a subtle implication that Cha Chi Soo’s father is very Americanized? He eats an American style breakfast, he always has the American and Korean flag on his table, and Cha Chi Soo said that he was “Made in the U.S.” so he doesn’t have to join the army. Then I started thinking about how he’s portrayed. As a powerful and successful person…who is really kind of ditzy. HEY! Also, he’s a super over indulgent parent who is competitive with a cartoon penguin. Double HEY!
Maybe his mama is American? Hmmmmmmm…
I watched ep.10 of FBRS 5 times, including the time I watched it unsubbed. And the preview? Lost count. I love Jung Il-woo & Cha Chi-soo! Been shouting my love for him/them in my twitter and FB page.
Not sure if anyone else is watching Man of Honor…I started at ep.7 when I had nothing to watch and caught it on KBS World (the title there is Glory Jane – what the?). The story’s a little bit over the top like the villain (okay, fine, it’s really over the top!) but I can’t stop watching it. I think this is my guilty pleasure of the year. Park Min-young has grown on me (I’m not as irritated with her like in her previous roles) and I love her short hair. I haven’t watched any CJM dramas before so I’m not really a fan of his. In MOH, he has some moments but overall the character’s really not that awesome. Still, I have to know what happens next!
Hello everyone!
Sounds like there’s a lot of drama watching going on and everyone’s pretty happy.
I’m happy I’ve got back on board with Flower Boy Ramen Shop and Ojakgyo Brothers.
I marathoned How to be a Perfect Neighbor and really enjoyed that.
Also enjoying reading the recaps for Vampire Prosecutor here on DB.
We have a lot of Korean dramas on TV here so I’m able to catch some episodes of Hwang Jini, Gloria, Stairway to Heaven, Will it Snow for Christmas, andMary Stayed Out All Night among others.
Wish I could watch subbed versions of Strong Heart and 1 Night 2 Days on TV as well but for those the internet usually comes through.
Wishing you and all the Dramabeans Dream Team well.
Holy Noodle Shop, Batman! I just finished Ep 10 of FBRS and my GOODNESS was that a kiss or what. My heart actually raced.
Even so…I don’t think she ends up with him. I definitely see chemistry and interest between her and Hubbie, and I still see ChiSoo as a boy in his reactions and responses. (Um, except the kissing part. He’s all growed up in the kissing parts.)
I think they’ll have an interesting ‘let’s chalk it up to experience’ moment, and then they’ll both move on as they are meant to.
Ok. Going back to watch that kiss again.
That kiss was fumazing. I had to watch it many times to make sure I had good screen caps *nods*
I like how there IS interest between her and hubby. Unlike in a lot of shows where second leads are just hopeless piners.
I want her to get with one of them. But CS is so immature. It’s brilliant how they have him learning emotions painstakingly slow, one by one. But that is not a man to support you. It’s a man to giving you sexy, sexy kisses. But in a relationship? If they do end up together…I wonder how that will happen.
And hubby is a second lead. Save for uri Park Shi-hoo…they don’t really get the girl.
Think about Dream High. Everyone THOUGHT the one guy was first lead and the other guy was second lead, and they were WRONG. (yes I’m watching it even though I know how it ends.)
Okay. I just watched that kiss on FBRS. I’m the first to admit I stopped watching it around ep 5 or so, but after reading your reaction, had to see for myself and watched it at the end of ep. 10.
Did either of you find that kiss familiar? As in, GAME OVER or the Streetlight Kiss in CH?
JIW kisses exactly like Lee Min Ho. Same moves, same technique.
All I can say is if Kim Bum gets to kiss anyone in Pandam, Pandam, and it looks the same, I am SERIOUSLY gonna suspect that the three off them (being BFF’s and all) practiced on each other at some point! (Wait! I’m picturing it in my head…. okay, done … nope, back there….)
Not that there’s anything wrong with some intense bromance!!
Achieve perfection by repetition… I like that !! Poor guys, leave them alone !
. Wait… We should check that with a good variety show and a lot of fan service. Well, joking set aside they finally understand in K dramaland that a nice spontaneous realistic kiss is more effective on the audience to convince us that 2 people are in love. Well filmed, it’s no gross or vulgar or something that you have to be ashamed of. It’s just esthetic and moving. Tell me about Korean schyzophrenia… While they have the most extreme erotic movies ( frozen flower, addicted… ).
Cynthia, you made me laugh so hard! I did think the kiss reminded me a bit of Game Over – but it never occurred to me the Biffies might have practiced on each….wait…ok, back. Interesting theory!
I have no idea how it ends. I’m totally going in blind, like I like to. Although Sang-doo…my heart may have fared better if I’d known….
Annyeong everyone.
How is your weekend? Schizo weather is once again schizo… I feel like we’ve run the course from rainy to sunny this morning before lunchtime! Makes for sniffle weather, yes?
Lined up unfinished on my drama list:
You’ve Fallen For Me – because I still can’t bear to watch the last episode.
Painter of the Wind – about halfway through, if I weren’t so exhausted on worknights that I fall right into bed when I get home.
Dramas to watch:
City Hunter
Best Love
Gourmet
My Fair Lady
The Fierce Wife (Taiwanese)
Strictly speaking, the last three are supposed to be my sister’s Christmas present, but might as well watch them before I send them to her.
LOL…I always (carefully) read the books that I send my mom before I send them. I always felt a tiny bit guilty about it until I found out that she reads the books she sends US before she sends them. Must run in the family, lol…
LOL! I do that with books too
Maybe it’s because stuff like books and movies can be enjoyed like that by many people without lessening their value to the person who will receive them? Not like clothes or shoes.
