Happy Open Thread!!!!!
Has anyone watched Padam Padam yet?
I am desperately waiting for subs
No, I haven’t. I’m waiting for VI, PaPa and FBRS subs on dramafever. I’m so antsy!
Even if Padam padam is on Dramafever that doesn’t help me ^cries^
I think epdrama will have it in a day or two. Sometimes their subs really suck, but they are quicker than dramafever for the most part.
I will keep an eye on that!!! Thanks
and about what’s up ? it was good ?
padam padam is now up on dramafever
And I really really want to know what the Gods Javabeans and Girlfriday think of it… I’M NOT ASKING FOR A RECAP!!!!
However maybe a twitter-length opinion would be nice… and perhaps given the large amount of dramas currently showing maybe a weekly twitter-length update on what you think of them all might be nice…
Anyway… your always loyal fans thank you so much!!!
Morning, all!
Soompi (jbarky) is doing short recaps for Padam, Padam.
I know!!! I was so so happy!!
however I still wanna know what the offical Dramabeans line is cause you know… they’re the Gods
Waiting for subs…..
Watched it and it is AMAZING–I am blown away. Watch it here: http://www.natnatvip-online.org/2011/12/padam-padam-episode-2-englsih-subbed.html
Thank you! Watched episode 1 this morning, now will be watching episode 2. My housemates, meanwhile, are downstairs watching X-factor (something like American Idol)… we’re worlds apart…
Kim Bum + long hair – I don’t think he should ever cut it!!!
I’ve seen the first episode raw and I loved every bit of it! Jung Woo Sung’s acting is amazing and his chemistry with Ha Ji Won is sizzling! Kim bum is LOVE.
)) I can’t wait to watch it with subs.
Kim Bum is always love
He is my Boyfriend after all <3
lol…
that’s Han Ji-min, not Ha Ji-won :p though i’d love it if it were Ha Ji-won.
oops, my bad. i had han ji min in mind, yet i typed ha ji won’s name for some reason. thanks for correcting.
Leaf, I’m watching on DramaFever (sorry I know that doesn’t help) but I can at least report that – wow, SO not what I was expecting. Not about whether it would be good or bad but just…how the characters would be. It’s starting off really, really well.
After spending ages trying to fake on to Dramafever I am pleased to announce that I finally found it (kimchidrama I believe?)
And yes, it’s epic
And my boyfriend’s (Inside joke…. not just my insanity) hair is finally growing on me… I mean, he’s always hot!
But seriously… he needs a eat more… it’s disturbing how skinny he is…
Oppa come to mine!! I’ll cook for you!! And make you lunch everyday!!
Watched the first two episodes, this is gonna be a winner. Jeong Woo-seong is absolutely amazing! I don’t usually gush over the acting technique in Korean dramas, but I’m very impressed with this one. I hope Padam Padam continues at this level & draws many viewers. Highly recommend!
Happy OT!!
I’m really sad that “Me Too, Flower!” is ending with 15 episodes! Truthfully, I’m more hooked on this drama than FBRS.
http://www.allkpop.com/2011/12/im-a-flower-too-to-end-with-15-episodes
Is MTF good? lots of people say it’s awesome. I haven’t watched this one. Is it really awesome?
Yes it’s really awesome from the 3rd episode onwards. The characters are really interesting and the acting’s great all round.
I guess you can’t ignore Yoon Shi-yoon’s baby face next to Lee Jia, but he emanates a maturity beyond his baby face that make their interactions believable.
I’m going to miss it so much! Perhaps I’ll revisit What’s Up Fox from the same writer.
Oh, yes, you SHOULD watch What’s Up, Fox ? if you haven’t done it yet, or re-watch it if you have !
I’m like a mother hen with What’s Up, Fox ? (whoever criticizes it shall die haha) but even objectively speaking it is really good. Oh, and did I mention that PIE as Park Chul-soo in WUF? is probably one of the best male leads ever ? (along Gong Yoo in Coffee Prince, of course *mother-hens CP as well*)
I love What’s Up Fox myself. It’s one of my favs and the reason I stuck it out through the painful “Cinderella’s Sister”. The interaction and chemistry between Chul Soo and Byun hee is part of the reason I see nothing wrong with FBRS’ pairing of Chi Soo and Eun Bi.
Because I’m already watching 5 dramas right now (and have to sleep sometime), watching Chun Jung Myung in “Man Of Honor” is unfortunately gonna have to wait until the new year. I did recently watch a street interview with him, showing taped up fingers where he broke a finger catching a baseball…and do admire dedication in a man.
Not enough hours in the day! Just finished skimming Vampire Idol 1 – 4, and Color of Woman 1 -2 at work, and waiting on this week’s Ojakgyo Brothers episodes and the next installment of FBRS!!
Indeed!
Someone once asked, if you could end up with any male lead from any show, who would you pick?
No question for me, it is Chul-su-ah alllllll the way.
Oh! Yes, WUF is one of my all time favs. Top 5.
PIE (Chun Jung Myung ) and Go Hyun Jung are fabulous. Chul-su ah is an absolutely adorable and unconventional first lead. You really do pull for him like nobody’s business.
I am a crazed M2F fan, and I really liked the first 2 episodes, too. The OTP’s interactions early on are very funny and very…not hot, exactly…but you can see the attraction immediately. They did a good job revealing why he would be interested in her type over the glamorous type.
Not only that, you can see JH’s almost naked – in his underwear – and he is obviously pre-Army.
I love and hate it. The acting is great, esp Yoon shi-yoon is doing such a great job that I can actually ignore his baby face now and focus on the character. I like Lee Jia, too and I watch for the two of them.
Just curious, ‘cos I’m so crazy about this drama. Why do you hate it?
I’m just a lil’ bothered by Hwa Young who’s turning out to be the stereotypical clingy second lead, but at least her relationship with Jae Hee makes it understandable why she acts this way. Unlike in most other dramas where second leads are clingy just for the sake of it.
Otherwise, I’m very much in love with the MTF.
I find her annoying but also interesting. It adds dynamic to Jae Hee because his identity as a rich man is defined by Hwa Young, while his identity as a normal person is defined by Bong Sun. She plays a bigger role in his rise to stardom and basically his life than other second leads who are like you say just there for the sake of it. She also really scares me with her .. controlling tendencies and is turning abit psychotic.. literally. D:
I jumped right into the middle of it and am enjoying it. Like it better than FBRS too… it’s just more on my wavelength – I like it a bit more serious. Don’t mind Yoon Shi-yoon’s baby face. Honestly don’t notice it at all. He’s acting wonderfully and, plus, in real life, there are people that look younger than their real age too.
I would Yoon Shi-yoon’s character to be a bit more communicative though – he’s withholding information for no reason, or no good enough reason. He needs to be honest in a relationship, and open up even if it’s difficult. I can still forgive him, because the couple’s good moments have so far made up for it…. (-:
I don’t care for Hwa Young though, but I never care for those kind of characters (or rather: I can’t stand them).
I’m really sad about it too. I stopped watching FBRS and just started reading the recaps. And with Me Too, Flower, I started watching the actual episodes and anxiously waiting for subs.
OCKoala started recapping Me Too Flower!
http://koalasplayground.com/tag/me-too-flower/
haha same here! i started getting kinda bored with fbrs and so i started just reading recaps. but on the other hand, im really really enjoying me too, flower!!
me too!
And I thought I was the only one! Haha, I got so hooked on MTF I dropped FBRS too!
I’ve got evil female second lead dislike syndrome with this one. I feel absolutely no sympathy for her. She has the attitude of wanting the whole cake to just sit there and rot just so that she can control the situation.
But she is a necessary evil for the plot to progress realistically, so I just skip her parts and the step-sister’s parts because to me they are absolutely unnecessary to watch.
stupid question… what does fbrs stand for?
Happy friday everyone!
I watched the Huk gak MV yesterday and I liked it very much. Anyone else seen it yet?
Other than that… nothing new.
Haven’t found my drama crack yet.
I love Huh Gak! Been singing his songs in the showers a bit too much. LOL
I just discovered him yesterday while searching youtube for my Yoo Seung ho fix. My favorite youtube video editor’s account got deleted (curses) and I needed something to watch.
Huk Gak’s voice is so cool. A little old-worldy. Or maybe that’s because the video was shot that way.
Fancy you being out there looking for YSH. Hmmmm.
I found a beautiful song I may do a DS/Una vid for.
When I listened the first time to the lyrics, I started to think of them. DS missing Una. Then I changed my mind. It would be ME missing Una. I MISS UNA!
Yes, they like to delete accounts.
Been there.
Sucks.
Ricky!! *waves*
Welcome back!
Good to be back, jawavillager
Hmm, sings in the shower… In Korean, to boot!
I’m impressed! Do you sing in-tune?
HAHA
It’s one of the few things that I’m sort of good at actually, MJP. *sheepish smile*
Short story of my singing ‘career’:
Mum was annoyed because I sang so much at home and so she forced me to enter a singing competition when I was 13, won that competition (pleasantly surprised!), stopped singing when my voice started to break, concentrated on getting good grades (with the occasional stress-relieving karaoke sessions in my room), went to college, was forced (yet again) to audition for a small part in a show choir/musical, offered the male lead instead – reluctantly said yes, discovered KDramas & started singing Korean songs in the shower. The end! Hehe
Hubby sings in the shower, too, but he sings either Italian opera or BB King, lol.
That’s all in the past now though. I can’t play any musical instruments, I have no knowledge of musical notes – A, B, C etc, and I was never in a proper choir or vocal class.
I do it just for fun, to entertain myself.
What a lovely story. How was it playing the male lead in the musical. Was it fun?
I’ve always loved music, but alas, according to my music teacher, I “have the voice but no ear”.
He literally told me to stop trying.
Thankfully I was never interested in pursuing it professionally. But I really admire anyone who can sing/play instruments.
Playing the lead was a good experience but the preparation was brutal. A lot of lyrics to memorize & so many unfamiliar songs to learn too. My throat was sore for days.
It was fun though. I get to sing Lemon Tree and Bieber’s Baby among other things. Ahh, memories.
some one told her she had the voice but not the ear? you can always trian yourself to hear specific sounds…. or at least recog nize whether they’re sharp or flat….
Are you talking about the two-part MV with Kang Sora?
No. This is “Whenever you play that song” with YSH.
I’ll have to watch it. The other two are really violent, so it would be nice to see a happy(ish) MV from him.
Researched him. Now his voice I like better than Bobby Kim as someone mentioned below. But the video on the MV “Hello” is too horribly sad!
have you heard John Park voice? I watch him last week in Yu Huiyeol Sketchbook. Wow, he got Aammaziing voice!
I’m not so familiar with him before Sketchbook, now I wanna hear more of his song.
Did you know any of his famous track?
Did anybody know?
There’s a you tube vid called “I’m Your Man” by John Park. He’s good, it’s kind of big-band-ish.
oh, I think that one is the song that I heard. Hehe
or maybe not, I can’t remember exactly the title.
I’ll check that out, thank you!
Omigosh, Shel, I love that song so much I put it on my NaNo mix cd and sent it all over the country! Literally!
No, sorry… John Park didn’t win me over.
“Haven’t found my drama crack yet.”
I read that really fast as “I haven’t found my drama *cricket* yet.” Yeah, it’s been a long day! lol!
Happy Friday aoiaheen
Today in the library,
Friend: Hey, what’s up?
Me: I’m trying to find more about this egoistical dude, Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche.
Friend: Ooh, sounds fun!
Me: Shut up! Now go away. I’ve got finals tomorrow.
Friend: Why are you so sensitive nowadays?
*sigh*
*closes book*
*smile sarcastically at friend*
Me: Firstly, my first final paper happens to be on a Saturday. Secondly, I had no internet connection for the past week. Most importantly, I haven’t been watching any episodes lately. WHEEE, FUN!!!
Friend: Ah, you mean Glee?
Me: I’m fine without Glee. I meant my K-Dramas.
Friend: You and your insanity. *rolls eyes*
How is everyone? Not being able to go online made me frustrated. When I was finally able to go online again, I felt so relieved. I missed out on the OT and posts for the past week here in Db. On the other hand, I studied so much I was surprised I didn’t get any nose bleeds. Heh
I can’t stay long since I need to wake up early tomorrow. Happy Weekend
RICKY!!!!!!!! Welcome back to OT…even though we’re on Twitter now.
*offers K-drama crack* Stop trembling my dongsaeng.
Going back and forth from the OT and tweeting a reply to you is awesome, noona!
*accepts K-drama crack graciously*
There’s more where that came from. I love Fridays cause the OT is SO dead by W/T
No twitter for Unni
I just have a regular old cell phone, not really for the innernetz.
Unni! It’s okay, its bad to put too much on your phone because then you become scarily addicted. It’s almost as bad as k-drama.
Whose on twitter? The whole OT? But am allergic to twitter! What will I do?
I’m allergic to twitter too! And Facebook!
Shiku,
What’s up with the “Kind Boobs” statement? Do you mean your friends are mean or that your “assets” are mean?
No I meant it as a joke and I got it from VP. It’s not funny?
I didn’t get the joke because I’m not current on VP at the moment, not even the recaps. Been busy. Others probably laughed if they understood it.
Hi there Ricky.
Awesome that your studying so hard and have survived without an internet connection for a week.
Hope all goes well and we see you safely back in KDrama Land soon.
Thanks so much, KDrama Fan!
^sigh^ When will more people start understanding about K dramas? Why is it still such a big deal?
Oh any Happy Open Thread Your Highness!!!
Don’t worry studies will be over soon!!!!
This friend just likes to mess with me. She’s an occasional watcher too (Read: Only if Lee Min Ho is the hero).
And Happy Open Thread to you too, Leaf! Glad to be back.
ha ha… well that is completely understandable…
Yeah, I have friends like that too haha. Not that I don’t understand them, mind you
We here all agree with you.
It could have to do with the fact with the fact you have to watch subs. For some, that’s a deal breaker.
Then you have this whole 16, 24, 50, etc, episode thingie, which is daunting when you have no idea how quickly that time flies.
Next there is the fear of what is not familiar.
There are two reactions when confronted with something new, and therefore strange.
You can say, “That’s weird.” and dismiss it.
or
You can say, “That’s interesting.” and try to learn more about it.
I think we are here because we are more likely to have said, “That’s interesting.”
Now SK to us is a beautiful place with beautiful traditions, interesting history, gorgeous actors. To most others, it is a big [ ]
It isn’t a negative view, it’s unknown and for some that is scary.
Folks are faced with lots of current domestic shows that they can understand and can watch by putting in a disc or switching on the TV. If I am this person, what would move me to go online, search for shows, rather seach for subbed shows?
A lot of us got here by accident, some because of friends or relatives. We share one thing for the most part, a curiosity of the big world out there and resourcefulness.
(Do you know how long it took me to finally find and download .avi and .srts for TBDaW that would play on my mac? I was like a crazy person hunting it down.)
I have been thinking about this because of what Drina said a couple OT’s back. She was worried that none of her local friends shared her obsession. She seemed to feel isolated because of it.
I am glad she and you and I and everyone else found each other!
Nodding my head all the way, Jomo.
It felt so good to discover Db and the OT. The friends I have who watch dramas are few. Most would only watch if so-and-so is in a drama. If we were to talk about Korean dramas, it always comes back to the hotness of so-and-so. I’m fine with that but it’s tiresome sometimes. I need more ‘substance’ to justify my liking towards a particular drama. Visual appeal only goes so far. So yeah, my real life buddies are not really ‘addicts’ like us.
Dramabeans is perfect for me. I actually learn stuff here. I ogle too but I always have an ‘Aha’ moment when I read the posts here.
People here are not shallow at all (although so many of us claim to be). I would say that my friends are shallow, they never dig deeper. However, we discuss, analyze, compare and share. Isolation and prejudice is nil, since everyone understands each other. No one thinks you’re weird just because you’re a guy who enjoys KDramas a little too much, for example.
Perfect. Just, perfect!
Agreed. I’m the only one in ‘real’ life that I know who likes K-drama. Seriously, how can that BE?!
Something wrong with the world…
I’ve only been watching them for the last year or so (my first being Winter Sonata) and have maybe 40 or so under my belt.
The friends my age (mid 40′s) just roll their eyes and go back to “Desperate Housewives” and “Dancing With the Stars”.
The guys I work with just roll their eyes and go back to “Pawn Stars”.
Only the kids I mentor (ages 14 to 18) think it’s cool, and several of them are KPop fans.
Personally, I like the shortness of the arc. Any big-ticket American series (Seinfeld, West Wing, etc etc) lose my interest by the second or third season. So I figure, why not cater to my ADD by watching a series of shows with an overarching arc and finite number of episodes? Since I’ve been watching foreign films and such most of my life, subtitles don’t scare me.
Plus I love the soundtracks that go with these series! My most favorite recent actor song is probably “Us Again” from Scent of A Woman by Kim Sun Ah and Lee Dong Wook.
I appreciate that JB and GF have a forum where I can see that I’m not the only one out there who loves asian / foreign entertainment media. (for the record, I don’t like Brazilian TV, too much plastic and collagen, and overacting!)
Valid point.
16 episodes can sometimes be daunting. A season after a season after another season of it? Asking too much from the audience, I think. If it gets better, I’m all for it. But often the shows die slowly.
The only American show which I follow is Glee. Which I feel IS getting better in its third season.
Agree with the dying part. I got upset with how the networks ended certain series, most notably Farscape and Quantum Leap.
Haiku:
Saw first show of Glee
What? Journey *and* Guys and Dolls?
[Run away screaming]
lol – I work a night shift (10pm to 7 am US EST), so it’s not easy to keep up with shows. Glee is just a little too manic for me – I was afraid if I watched it too much, I’d spontaneously break out in a song and dance number showcasing my feelings, and that’s not so good when you are a municipal employee. I know a lot of people that like it though.
The trouble with shows having so many seasons is that I don’t feel ‘intimate’ enough with them. I’ll be looking forward to watching a character but lo and behold she’s suddenly not in the next season. Having too many characters is one thing, but creating a story arch that seems to go on forever is ridiculous to me.
Case in point: How I Met Your Mother.
Anyways, the title says it all – the show starts with Future Tedd telling his kids the story of how he met their mom. The Big Mystery is the identity of that woman. Okay, fine. I dig that. The huge turn off for me though was the fact they are currently in their 6th/7th(?) season and yet that woman is still a Jane Smith. Excruciatingly painful for me. I hate the fact that they are milking it all the way to season 6/7(?).
My sister is obsessed with Barney Stinson. I only know him since he made an appearance in Glee Season 2. Heh
Compare that with Dream High whereby the Big Mystery is the identity of Singer K. And finally in episode 16 we finally knew. Short and sweet! That’s how it should be done.
I guess I should point out that I don’t follow How I Met Your Mother so it’s possible that Tedd’s wife’s identity is already known.
Hmm, maybe I should confirm that with my sister.
True dat. Never much got into HIMYM because I couldn’t seem to warm up with any of the characters. Your point about DH is spot-on.
Even reality shows get stale season to season. I enjoyed the first couple of seasons of Amazing Race, mostly for the scenery of the different locations the couples had to get to. Now, I yawn and put in a DVD. Survivor lost me after season one. American Idol made me reach for a aspirin bottle and earplugs almost from the get-go.
The funniest (or possibly the strangest?) thing about my foreign drama obsession is that, with a rare exception, there are very few surprises in the storytelling. But somehow my interest gets captured with the first show, and I stay until the end.
Maybe it’s just me, and my attention span…oh look! A chicken!
(where was I…)
I also watch a lot of DIY shows (Curb Appeal, Holmes on Homes, etc), and we all know that, predictably, with some friends, and a lot of elbow grease, in 1/2 hour we can have the spa-bathroom of our dreams, and a yard that makes the neighborhood dogs think twice about pooping in. Yet I still tune in.
Anyways, good luck in school, eat well, stay bundled if it’s cold, and make good choices. ^-^
Thanks you
Hang in there, oppa. (Remember, I’m REALLY only 17). If I was there I’d cook you something to keep up your strength. Don’t just eat ramen. :0)
YOU CAN DO IT!
Omo, I melt whenever I hear someone call me Oppa.
How did you know that I mostly eat ramen? Haha
Thanks, anyway
Hey, i was a college student once, too. Ramen and Kraft Mac and Cheese were staples. I bought a box of the Mac and Cheese a while back…..nostalgia, I suppose, becuase I make mac and cheese from scratch like my mother does…..it was ghastly. How did I live on that? Back then it was 5/$1, that’s how, lol. Oh, and frozen pot pies were 4/$1.
My hubby can make instant ramen into wonderful stuff, so I still buy ramen. When we first got married, we were seriously broke cuz his divorce left him way in debt and we were paying alimony/child support. We had his family reunion (about 60-70 people then) that next summer, and we were in charge of one dinner that week. We cooked a couple of cases of ramen and stirfried it with veggies and a miniscule amount of pork…like maybe 2 pork chops….and called it chow mein. We fed everyone for like $25. And they all liked, it, lol.
But seriously, eat a banana or an apple once in awhile, k?
hahahahah – when I was driving my daughter up to college in late August, we were riding along silently for a bit and I turned to her out of the blue and said: PLEASE eat some fruit once in a while.
I blame my general laziness to get proper food. Once I’m settled and comfortable in my room, it would take an exploding bomb to actually make me go out again. I’m somewhat a couch potato.
Plus, watching FBRS always makes me feel like eating ramen.
Don’t worry about it though. I received enough scolding from my mum about eating right. Her first question whenever she calls is always “what did you eat today?”.
Yeah, I get that. We have cold cereal or ramen for dinner every once in awhile for that very reason. Especially if it’s nasty weather out, or I’ve had a long tiring day. My husband can cook, but usually doesn’t. My daughter will only make toast, ramen or brownies. If she wasn’t such a skinny little butt, I’d worry about that more.
My default is scrambled eggs with cut up tomato and cheese. Toast, too, if I’m feeling even slightly motivated (and have bread in the house, which isn’t a given.)
Unni- HAHAHA My mom did the same thing to me when I was going to college.
We call it Emergency Food at our house, but lately it has become Defacto Food.
Hi Ricky! Miss you
Sounds like things are very stressful… that’s tough. And having no friends in real life who get it, and no connection to those who do… ouch!
I wanted to say I hope you’ll have some time off for the holidays, but I realized I don’t know what holidays you and/or your school celebrate (if any) in Dec/Jan… (yep, I’m an ignorant American, in the end
)
Anyway, all the best!
I’m going to have a month-long break starting next week itself. I’m looking forward to staying up all night just watching dramas.
Thanks!
I’m jealous… vacation from school for the kids in Korea just means that they (and we teachers) double down on the time spent with classes at academies. Poor kids
Anyway, enjoy your vacation!
Sounds like vacation in Japan’s schools too. But I’m taking time off and GOING to Korea~!
That’s fantastic, haruko! Where are you planning to go? Have you been to Korea before?
Not yet! So I’m really excited, even if this is kinda last minute.
It was too expensive to fly home (america) and too depressing to stay in Japan and work Christmas day…so another ALT friend and I are going to Seoul for Christmas. We’ve never been, so we’re not sure exactly what we want to see…but she has a Korean friend who says he can spend some time and (hopefully) show us around a bit.
…now I need to try and remember my one semester of korean ^^;;. lol
That’s great! I’m sure I could get some going-out-in-Seoul recommendations from my co-workers, if you’re interested… just let me know what kinds of places you like
Any recommendations would be great! Both of us want to do some shopping, and I would love to see some areas of cultural significance as well – my email is haruko.girl.23@gmail.com. Thanks
Hmm, we’re looking forward to your mini-vacation also. Will you be spending time with the Queen Mother?
Oh absolutely!
I’m sure she has some sort of a plan. I recall several weddings she talked about in the phone. I actually dislike it, but I’ll go for her sake. I dread having to introduce myself to unfamiliar ‘aunts’. The aunties always have a ‘daughter or niece who would be perfect for me’. Oh, the awkwardness of the situation.
I have no idea why my parents insist on making me accompany them to such occasions. I would always be bombarded with nosy questions and alcohol. I dislike both.
Why can’t we just stay at home and she stuffs me with food? Now THAT is a vacation.
My father is perfectly happy when I visit them, mostly because my mom will leave him alone and drag me to all of her activities (translation: hen conferences).
Luckily, since they are both in their 80′s, there’s no matchmaking talk, just conversations about the current shuffleboard leader and the new cheap restaurant that just opened at the beach. And most of the action is at the golf course.
On the other hand, you haven’t lived until you find yourself as the youngest person at a Veterans of Foreign Wars spaghetti Wednesday in Florida.
oppaaaaaaaaaaaa
HUGE GRIN!!!
Are you including the oppa-wiggle while saying this?
I did, in fact, wiggle a bit! Because I actually said it outloud while I was typing it…and I think it’s not possible to say it correctly WITHOUT wiggling.
I’m glad the dog was asleep…NO ONE should ever see this.
Okay, that’s hilarious (and I didn’t even see it)
I’m in the same boat, lol. Not so much a wiggle as a jiggle. ;0)
HAHA. I just said OppaaaAAaaAAaa and I DID wiggle. OMOMOMOMOMO!
The thing is, if I call Ricky Oppa, then he can’t call me noona. And I REALLY like being called noona.
I know you do, noona
Well, I can either be 17 and call him oppa, or he can call me…call you call someone 30 years older than you noona??
Nah, I’ll stick with calling him oppa. Maybe I”ll post a pic of me at 17, so he can imagine it’s some young kinda cute thing calling him oppa. Better yet, I’ll post a pic of Jessica Alba at 17 and he can pretend it’s me, lol.
Jessica Alba!*drools*
I had a poster of her in her tight blue Fantastic Four suit before. That woman is fine!
First Jessica Alba and now Yoo In Na. Hmm, I sense a recurring pattern. LOL
By the way, Shel, now whenever I see your name I would picture Jessica Alba. Awesome!
My husband is a big Jessica fan, too. He’s a fan of the “butt-kicking babe” genre, lol.
Noona – hehehe. They can oppa you. You can noona me. And Shel, you can be a noona too!
Oppa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ^pout wiggle^
Sorry… had to join in as I need pratice…
*joins in* Oppaaaaa~
One shall never underestimate the power of the OPW. I re-saw my Korean friend this week for the first time since last June – and I usually call him Oppa to show off my (very little) knowledge of Korean culture, since my watching kdramas is kind of a private joke between the two of us. First thing I did when he entered the Japanese restaurant :
*suddendly raises from her chair* OPPAAAAAAA~ !
And you know what ? Worst thing is that IT WORKS. Even when coming from non-Asian looking girls. My “oppa” spent the whole time patting me on the head during lunch, asking if I was alright and all. He’s a very uptight person normally, so it is kind of hilarious to see. Haaah. Oppa-pout-wiggle has never been so fun.
OK right… I AM SO DOING THIS!!!
Maybe next time I see the hot Korean Guy (which might happen… after all, I need to ask questions about my Study Abroad to Seoul!!) I am gonna call him Oppa and not just impress him with my annyong lol…
Mirabeau! You just made my week. I need to find an older, male Korean friend…NOW.
HAHAHAHAHAHA
I love this!
LOL.
Sometimes it’s good to be offline. At least you are not getting distracted when you need to be studying.
What’s bad though is being offline and having no computer. I had that for five days recently and thought I’d go crazy (until I realised on day 3 that my super-basic mobile phone had a radio, so at least I was able to listen to music from that point on).
Good luck on your finals.
It’s kinda sad how we are lost without technology. I depend so much on the internet and these past few days made me realize that fact.
Thanks, alua
I know, it’s almost scary….
Things have gotten so easy & convenient with the internet, I’m one of those totally guilty of always having my computer on & with me (embarrassing confession: I even sleep with it on my bed at night… because I use the computer’s alarm clock when I need to wake up early).
I look up everything on the internet too – and immediately. My mom (who doesn’t use the internet, doesn’t have an email or anything) once got mad at me and my Dad, yelling at us for constantly using “that Wikipedia or whatever thing”.
But I think I’m just educating myself, feeding my appetite for knowledge and that can’t be bad… *blinks innocently*
You and me both!
Do you think marriage with a laptop will ever be legalized? I sometimes refer to my laptop as a my Wife. I’m thinking of giving it a sexy name too.
I suddenly thought of something. I may be practicing polygamy. I have two wives – my laptop and my mobile phone. Haha
How DID the Neanderthals live without technology?
No wonder they chased mammoths around with spears. Given a choice, they probably would tweet about it instead of doing the actual chasing. Can you imagine if Twitter exists then?
I’m glad I’m not the only one…
My mobile phone is so basic though that I barely use it (plus I’m on pay-to-go so I can’t be bothered to waste money making calls/texting etc.). But the computer makes up for it, since it is with me all.the.time.
No name for it though. It’s just my beloved Mac.
But I have been thinking about getting an iPod touch….
I discovered that I’m my own fractal. I have:
- a 17” laptop,
- a netbook 1/2 the size of the laptop,
- a Kindle 1/2 of the size of the netbook,
- a PalmPilot (yes, I still use mine) 1/2 the size of the netbook, and
- a Nokia phone 1/2 the size of my Palm Pilot
And, of course, all the appropriate cases / covers / backpacks as well.
When the EMP bomb goes off, the only left is to play poker. With real cards and stuff. Or try Angry Birds with real birds, maybe.
yoo hoo! It’s good to see you around these parts. himne!
Thanks!
I’ll do my best
Ricky TRH!
*HUGS*
Good to read you are doing well! Enjoy your sleep!
How are you, MJP?
I didn’t really get a good rest. It’s kinda normal for me to be insomniac on the nights before an exam.
Oh RtRH
(I love that your name could be the name of a drama.)
(Ready to Reach Heroes)
(Really to Right HERE)
(Rocking the Roll Horse)
Titles do not have to make sense.
I believe YY could help here.
I admire your perseverance without internet. The millesecond our internet goes down, there is a ROAR in my house that would scare cats if we had any. That ROAR comes from me.
Proud of you and your hard work that will pay off.
Happy you get a break, too.
Ramen to Rock Hearts – the story of a boy whose gift for dressing up cup ramen wins the hearts of every girl he meets…until he comes across the one girl in Korea with a gluten allergy. How will he ever win the heart of his one true love?
I LOVE this.
Rice noodle ramen. The vermicelli kind or (preferably) the wide, flat ones.
But because of a terrible accident while washing rice, the girl was orphaned. She refuses to touch anything with rice in it, and is limited to eating banchan and galgi.
Ha ha! You are more imaginative than I. I was thinking (after googling the web), rice noodles are more Thai/Japanese etc so maybe it could be that the lead isn’t familiar with them, desperately seeks a solution and only in the end figures out that he can make rice noodle ramen.
But hey, that’s pretty boring, while your rice-washing-tragedy pushes the dramatic tension to a maximum.
Well I say he goes there, Alua, only to discover the horrible tragedy at the dinner table…our heroine of course runs out without explaining, and he is left to ponder the ruins of what he thought would be his successful conquest.
And that’s the end?
I don’t like sad endings… no happy alternative?
No, no, that’s not the end.
Ok, so Rockin’ Ramen Boy’s cuppa brings all the noons to the yard, but he’s secretly lonely and unsatisfied. One day, he sees THE GIRL. She is applying for a job at the local corner store where he buys all his cup ramen. Because he works there too, while attending school, instead of accepting the money his secret father would give him, as long as he would give up cup ramen.
Things being what they are, Ramen Boy manages to gain her attention – but when he tries to share his ramen with her he is flatly rejected. She thinks he’s cute, and she would love to be the kind of girl who could share a pot of boiling ramen with a boy like him, but it’s not possible.
Still, since, as an orphan, she is poor and supporting her cute but fresh-mouthed younger brother, she must continue to work there at the corner market, where she notes his dogged determination to win her heart by feeding her stomach something that won’t give her terrible gas pains. And she is touched by his thoughtfulness when, every time he fails, he hands her medicine to soothe the tummy ache he knows is coming.
Finally, about episode 12, he discovers japanese rice noodles and secretly tries recipe after recipe. When he finally makes a bowl of ramen with the rice noodles that he thinks will win her heart, he invites her brother over for dinner – and of course she must come to pick him up. He casually offers her a bowl of noodles, too, and says these definitely, absolutely, positively won’t make her tummy ache.
She takes one taste, and her eyes fill half-way up with tears. Exactly half-way, where they shimmer perfectly until one sad, slow tear trickles down her face. ‘Your one-sided love must end here,’ she says to our sad noodleheart. ‘The one thing in the world that could work as a ramen substitute, I can never eat. Five years ago, while washing rice for a family dinner, I accidently killed my parents by using a bowl that previously contained pesticides. Clearly, I am not deserving of your love, and I cannot return it. You must go share your noodle skills with someone less lacking than I.’ She turns and runs from the apartment.
‘Don’t worry, hyung’ says her little brother to Noodleboy. ‘Noona will come around. There must be a solution to this problem!’
But a year goes by, and RamenHeart has no solution. He swears off noodles completely, since they keep him from his one true love. As a vegetarian, he naturally frequents the local market often to buy fresh produce.
One day, the half-naked owner flexes his abs while rubbing oil on his torso. ‘Dude,’ he says. ‘We totally just got this awesome squash in…you boil it and then use a fork to scrape it out. It totally looks like noodles, yo.’
Which brings us to episode 15, where Noodleroni secretly replaces the caterer at the engagement party of his one true love to an irish boy who feeds her potatos 3 times a day. He dresses as a waiter and slips her a bowl of his squash noodles. She doesn’t know they aren’t regular noodles, but she takes a bite anyway so as not to cause a scene. Startled by the taste (and lack of gas pangs) she looks up into the face of our dear Ramen Whisperer, only to realize that he is her one true love, able to boil her heart with his noodles after all.
Episode 16 involves a time jump, where the happy couple has a bouncing baby boy and they often visit the veggie shop where their love was saved, and are happy to see the success of the Veggie King and his army of half nude bag boys as they expand the veggie empire across Korea.
*laughing so hard she can’t type*
JoAnne, you deserve an award for this. You’d give some of the best k-drama writers a run for their money!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Can somebody with a decent writing skill whip up a script for this drama ‘Ramen to Rock Hearts’?
And I request a brooding shower scene for myself, somewhere in episode 3.
DAEBAK!!!
JoAnne, your story was FANTASTIC! I loved it… you should really try to get them to make that a real drama. But who would star?
Right, that was going to be my next question too — who is going to star?
As far as who’s going to star…
I would’ve said Cha Seung-won (obviously… unless I’d say Mitt Romney, but even I don’t want to watch him try to act), but the story seems to require younger characters, so I’d have to go with Lee Min-ho. He’d be perfect! (CSW could maybe be the half-naked shop owner
)
As far as the lady… I don’t know… I’m not super-crazy about any of the young actresses that I’m familiar with. Any suggestions?
I want that skinny skinny pretty girl who was Oh Ha Ni’s comic-drawing friend in Playful Kiss. And for the brother…I just really love Ding Dong.
Unni – You better call KBS RIGHT now and get that rolling!
JoAnne, you are a geniius. Thanks for the laugh!
Hey! My whole family has Celiac’s disease. (Not me, da*mit!)
Romancing the Rebel’s Horse: The lead here is PSH’s horse in Princess’s Man. After become bow-legged from suffering the combined weights of PSH, PSH’s abs and the well-fed heroine, PSH’s deeply traumatised horse does some painful soul-searching and voluntarily gallops into rehab at Paradise Ranch and falls in love….
Okay, now, JoAnne and YY, you got me laughing out SO LOUD that my dongsaeng who’s in the room next door came to see if anything was wrong with me. Like, if I was having a hysteria fit or something. Omo. *still laughing*
I knew you’d come through!
Those are some heavy abs!
..I actually peed a little bit.
I love how my name inspires people.
So freaking awesome of all of you to come up with such golden ideas!
HAHAHAH PSH’s ABS?! HAHAHAHA
Hi Ricky-issi or dare I say Ahjussi-issi
Good luck on your exams
*slinks back into hiding*
Ummm, are you saying uri Ricky-sshi is an ajusshi?
uh-huh a 22-year old ajusshi!
YAH!!!!
Hehe :p
Ahh Nietzsche. What a joyful lad. Are you using K-drama at all for examples in your paper? Like InHeeBot from Personal Taste, or, well, any second lead lady ever, as an example of the over-conventional-morality Ubermensch?
Wait? We can do that?
To merge Nietzsche’s Ubermensch ideals with KDrama characters would be so scandalous, it might just work! Brilliant!!
And In Hee Bot is THE perfect embodiment of an Ubermensch! She fits all the nasty characteristics.
*Deep Curtsy* Your Highness!!! *HUGS* I missed you!
I was asking for you 1000 episodes ago, Viola!
How are you?
Happy Friday!
I’m starting the holiday gift shopping and I already broke one of them. The cat has discovered his. (It was a feather on a stick and he was dragging it around the house like a kill.) It was soooo CUTE.
George Carlin on cats. He likes to curse, but he’s HYSTERICAL: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nzvm8k5kSjs
I finished SKKS. <3<3<3. I have way too many screencaps of YAI and SJK. Lots and lots and lots.
Yay for PSH being voted as hottest actor in a Japanese poll!!!
What are your picks for 2011 as the Beanie Awards have come out?
As for this weeks song, it reminds me of a dude Corinne Bailey Ray plus Amos Lee. It's AWESOME. It's got a really strong groove.
hello raine.
I can’t listen to the song of the day right now but I have heard a song by citizen cope before, rather he did a duet with dido that I really like and I wanted to get his music. I agree he does an amos lee sound but I’m not fond of amos lee nor corrinne bailey ray their songwriting irritates me a bit.
I did the poll but I forgot what I voted for! I have age-ed-ness of my brain. I feel somewhat disappointed that I wasn’t able to vote more than once. I texted my sisters to vote too and they might. Are you watching tree with deep roots next?
I dunno why, but Dream High didn’t get as many votes as I thought it would. I mean, I know that this year was a drama-rich year, what with greats like CH, BL, TPM, etc, but C’MON PEOPLE. This is DH I’m talking about! Oh well.
Oh, I watched and reviewed a somewhat old (1999) K-movie and reviewed it on my blog. Attack the Gas Station. I would be happy to have people watch the movie ’cause of it.
OOOh, that reminds me, I have to review He was Cool. Busy busy. I wish I could have all my priorities disappear, leaving me free to watch dramas, movies, and review them. One of these days…..
Because…. because it wasn’t a solid drama through and through. Some episodes just weren’t written well. Some bits didn’t make much sense. Some of the actors were not too compelling, particularly when they had to play against other actors that were fab.
But other parts of Dream High rocked. Like the theme song. And most of all Song Sam-dong/Kim Soo-Hyun (the character & the actor)
.
Well, that’s my opinion anyway…
NONoNOOOO!!! DOn’t say that!!! What the drama lacked, it made up in plenty with loads of heart. DON’T SAY SUCH THINGS…*plugs ears with finger and yells gibberish*
Oh, and yes, Kim Soo-hyun. The drama wouldnt have been the same without him. I liked the teacher romance more than the Jason-IU thing. That was REALLY cute.
Well, you asked (sort of. indirectly.).
I don’t even want them to make Dream High II, not because of the flaws of the first one, but because I feel passionate enough about the first one and worry they’ll mess DH II up for sure. The good bits, after all, were really good and how are they going to match that! Particularly with no Kim Soo-hyun…..
Plus, I have plenty of flawed dramas that I still cherish. Including this one.
@alua:
I feel the same way BUT I am willing to give season 2 a chance. Be positive! I know normally sequels don’t stack up against the originals but hey, there are exceptions to that rule. So yeah, I am willing to give it a chance.
Oh, I’ll give it a try too! ;-p
Alua – I can’t hear you I can’t hear you I can’t hear you lalalalalalalaal Dream High forever!
This IS my serious face.
LOL. Dream High forever.
… the good bits.
Unni- I didn’t watch Ahjussi cause…I WAS WATCHING DREAM HIGH! I’m taking screencaps and I’ll post them when I edit out the nasty ones. We can have Sam-dong in SPADES!
And I”m SO not getting in between alua and jawa. Nuh-uh. I’m just going to try and finish DH before the weekend is over…if work ever lets me get on longer than to comment on OT
I did rewatch it…just as compelling the second time around. Won Bin is, hands down, the best sad face around, ever. And he’s just so darn pretty that when he is threatening, it’s even more intimidating.
When you say He was Cool, did you mean He was Cool the movie that was based on a novel and play by Jung DaBin (and Song Seunghun)??
Owh, I love the manhwa (I can’t read the novel because I don’t have any, only the manhwa that was sell in my country)!! But I couldn’t get to watch the film though I really really want to.
I’m a sucker for romance (result of a dissatisfaction love life) *Sigh
Yes, I meant the movie. It was really good. I wasn’t expecting more than just fluff, but it turned out better than what I expected in that aspect. You can download the film. I’m sure you could find a torrent if you searched for it. LOL, and it has a young Column from FBRS. He’s so cute, even though he didn’t get much screentime.
We all supplement the lack of good romances in our real lives with romance in the form of dramas and movies. You are not alone. LOL
Just one thing about He was cool the movie :
hairdresser, phone ringing, incredulous look, mad chasing while the speakers play a completely misplaced piece of classical music. One of my first K movies, and i still laugh laugh to tears at this scene.
@Mystisith
Yeah, that scene was epicly funny. NOt because we didn’t know it was coming, but because it was played out so well. I dont remember the lead guy’s name (We’ll just call him My Princess Lead, or MPL. Anyone who knows his name can correct me) but yeah, his eyes got SO ROUND when he turned. LOL. He’s a better actor than I thought. My Princess was a fail.
*nearly had a heart attack*
… DID I READ WELL ? DO YOU KNOW AMOS LEE ? Okay, wait, I think I need a minute here. *calms down*
Amos Lee’s just my favorite singer out there. I love, love, love him so, so much. I discovered him by sheer luck during a trip to Munich a year and a half ago, as they were playing his music in a bar. Fell in love at first hearing, wrote down the lyrics on my paper napkin, googled them the very same night and… Here I am, still loving the guy. His latest album gave me a blast as well, I am so glad he’s finally getting a bit of recognition… I live in France though, and absolutely NO ONE here has ever heard of him – hence the the near heart-attack seeing his name here gave me haha.
And you know the best part ? He’s touring in Europe soon, and has ONE concert in Paris – where I live – and it happens to be JUST the evening when I turn 18. I already have my ticket, couldn’t dream of a better way to enter adulthood (:
Seriously? I can play a couple of his tunes on guitar! I love him. Do you like John Legend too? I discovered him…hrm, in 07? My friend was playing a mix CD she’d made and I was like…OOOH when I heard Soul Suckers. I immediately found tabs and learned it on guitar. Haha.
That’s super awesome he’s going where you are. I always manage to miss him whenever he’s playing because I’m working >:-O
Oooh, where in Paris? I’ve only been there once, for 2 weeks, in 2006. I stayed with my friend…I can’t remember what Arrondissement … (bad Raine, bad). But my French hasnt’ been used since then either…it’s horrid.
Never heard of John Legend, but I shall now go listen to him on youtube !
Aaaah, Soul Suckers. It was one of the songs that I heard of him in Munich – and probably the one to get me hooked as well. Along with Arms of a Woman, I think… You’re lucky to play the guitar – I play the piano, which I love, but Amos Lee on piano… Not working.
I live in the 15th arrondissement – the biggest one, actually. And I can see the Eiffel Tower from my balconyyyyy
*NOT bragging*
John Legend has a great voice, so smooth; he’s a very talented musician and I believe he writes – may have been a song writer before he was a singer, actually.
Unni- watching Ahjussi right now. I took a pause from DH because…
***spoiler****
the deafness issue it a gut wrencher for me!
********end spoiler*******
And love John Legend. I love when he sits at the piano and just forgets the world.
Mirabeau- I love the 15th. I got lost there a while…literally, and it was actually kinda fun!
I need to finish SKKS, almost done, but at least now I feel like they could have kept everything at 16 episodes (maybe 18) and it would have been sufficient
I enjoyed its full run but I would’ve preferred a little more tension over her gender reveal.
wow PSH is rising quick! Can’t believe she’s doing another Taiwanese drama soon!
Happy Friday everyone!
Next week is finals week for me and it’s taking all the willpower I have in me to not start any of the new dramas airing this week. Thank god, the subs are a little slow.
Hope you all have great weekend!!
WHY, OH WHY, did the drama gods decide to release all the new dramas the week before FINALS?
Padam, Padam is just a click away!! ㅠ-ㅠ
I think I’m going through a mini-crisis… Or might just be all the coffee in my system.
Hello everyone!
I’m really stressed lately so not so communicative… Hope everyone’s ok here and there’s going to be a nice smooth pain-free week-end
Sorry to hear that! Hoping things are looking up soon…
Here’s some love for you to take on your way through your stress **hugs**
Thank you girls, it really means a lot to me to hear some support words…
aww have Residency started yet? no breaks during the holidays? Hang in there, everything will pay off in the future!
No, it didn’t start yet because I plan to work and specialize abroad but getting there is a pretty complicated process, although I live in the European Union. I also have a resident job in my country starting with January, but I really hope I won’t need it. I count the days till’ January, really
.
TGIF everyone!!!! Great week for sure! So many new Kdrama’s are out! I’ll wait to finish watching twdr, fbrs and mtf before continuing any of the new ones–which looks good.
VI recaps looks good. Recap for padam padam on soompi looks good too. Bolder by day looks good. Saw the first two episode, funni! LOL
Hope everyone have a goood weekend.
Beyond hooked on Me Too, Flower. Went in not expecting much but ended up marathoning all the episodes in a day. YSY is OWNING the role. Do wish it is better appreciated though. The rumor of it being shortened makes me sad
Also looking forward to the onslaught of cable offerings. Haven’t seen most of them but they look promising! In need of more hours in a day heh.
Have an excellent week ahead everyone!!
Absolutely. I actually think it is one of the best kdrama offerings around… and if I had to choose between FBRS and M2F, I would go M2F everytime. I also agree that YSY is superb in his role, and having started this drama not liking Lee Jia… I really like the Bong Sun character and totally feel for her.
So although I’m not that torn up about the 1 episode cut back, I just pray that as they have a bit of time now before the ending, to write it and end the story well.
I also agree! Me too flower is definitely one of the best dramas this year. I actually like it more than fbrs. I really hope mbc doesnt cut it.
Happy Friday! Watching the full moon set over the Pacific Ocean. THere are a lot of things about California that I hate, but this is not one of them.
Shoutouts:
Sethe! Your man is trailing in the polls. I can’t imagine why anyone would prefer someone named Newt, much less the actual Newt. Huntsman would be preferable.
Raine: I posted a link to KJH singing in a CF on last weeks OT, so check it out. He sings pretty good, and is definitely a tenor.
Ricky HRH: I hope finals aren’t kicking your butt. My son has two more, then he gets to sleep.
Dramas:
A Thousand Kisses: Holy cow we’ve got hysterics and slapping and what not as the sh*&^ hits the fan. Not sure how much more patience I have for this, but the So Eun/Ryu Jin couple is still kind of fun.
Man of Honor: Oy vey! The dad makes City Hunter’s dad look like he’s just kinda cranky.
FBRS: Oh. My. That’s all there is to say about that. Hands down, my fave thing airing.
Me Too, Flower. Noble idiot stuff again, which always irritates me. Otherwise, I’m enjoying watching YSY, but what’s up with his hair? It’s got so much mousse/hairspray/gel on it that it looks as if a stiff breeze would send him up like Mary Poppins.
The Musical: Yawn.
Not time to start much of anything else, although I’m anxiously awaiting Padam to have subs.
Real life:
Christmas Concert is Sunday night, then I”m FREE FREE for the rest of the season. Our Christmas service is going to be very simple as our mostly military congregation will be mostly gone. As will I.
My niece is still in Ethiopia. The embassy has her visa/US passport applications, but now they want to interview the birth mother again (the kids’ last living relative, who is dying of AIDS). I understand their concern, but they have to go through the adoption agency to do that, and they are horribly slow. And she lives about an hour from town. In the meantime, her six kids back home are cheering her on like the troopers and awesome kids they are. But it looks like it may be January before she’s home.
I promised pics of Mr Arrogant Cowboy dude. Found it…will scan and post later.
I have three papers to sit for. The first one is in 10 hours!
Happy weekend, Shel!
Shel – Oh my goodness. It was 2 am when I finally put the knitting down and fell asleep. Needed a break from KDramaland so I headed over to Thai Lakhornland and rewatched the end of one of them. That was a mistake. It was dumb and now I’m exhausted. I hate mornings.
As for dramas: May have to watch FBRS yet again. hahahaha. Thinking of skipping this last episode of The Musical entirely. May have to watch FBRS again. Will continue to read the recaps for Thousand Kisses unless something really good happens between Woo Jin and Joo Mi. May have to watch FBRS again. MOH – evil daddy needs to die. Not now, right now! Evil mommy needs to be humbled. Jae in and Young Kwang need to make out. May have to watch FBRS again. Waiting for Padam, Padam to be subbed. Will watch FBRS again.
Are you still in the car?
Nope, I’m home. She gets out at 6:50. We live about 20 mins away.
Yeah, I’ll be watching FBRS over and over and someone gets the subs done on my other shows. :0)
UNTIL someone gets the subs…..my fingers sometime go faster than my brain. Not difficult on a day after I stayed up too late.
Hi Shel!
Yeah… what to say? Newt?!? The very name evokes, like, stereotypical nasty witches’ brews and evil spells and other disgusting things (and the man himself does not fall short of that image
)
But yes, my man (who is CLEARLY the most rational and plausible nominee) hasn’t been doing so well lately… at least he had the good sense and dignity to excuse himself from the Donald Trump (!?!!!) debate.
Just curious, Shel, what DO you think of Huntsman?
Actually, Huntsman is probably closer to my conservative views….pro-life, fiscal conservatism etc than Mitt is. But, he’s still kind of centrist on environmental issues. And, as an added bonus, he speaks fluent Chinese, which can’t be a bad thing. I lived in Utah while he was governor and thought he did a good job, so he has experience. I think Mitt has an edge with his financial know-how, however.
I’m kind of a Republicrat (as my LIbertarian bro in law would say). I’m republican on social and most fiscal issues and democrat on environmental /climate change issues.
While I think that Mitt is the best candidate to oust Obama, because he isn’t a hard right-wing and might be able to win over middle-of-the-roaders like me (and most of my friends), I’m afraid the parties are so polarized now that anyone who is on sensible middle ground is not going to get the nomination.
At one time, I thought Huntsman had a better chance of the nomination because he’s further right than Mitt, but he seems to be kind of fizzling out. Or just overshadowed by the Newtster. Who is a crook, I swear.
Actually, that’s my dilemma….I don’t like big gov’t Democrat politics for the most part, and why do all the Republicans seem to be crooks these days? I had a heck of time deciding what to do about CA governor election last year. Hated both candidates.
I should do what my hubby says; write in my mom. She’d have the budget balanced, everyone working and no one getting away with anything in no time.
Of course, then it would be a “benevolent dictatorship” cuz she don’t take nothing from anybody, lol. She’d probably fire Congress.
Sorry Sethe I just can’t stop laughing at Mittens as he thought he had it in the bag, lol. Not that I like Newt since am allergic to reptiles (lizards and chameleons included and what they eat: herbs).
Huntsman is the only republican candidate who can appeal to moderates but apparently he isn’t ‘conservative’ enough. I still think Mitt will get the nomination but will loose as he talks from both ends of his mouth, no one trusts him so I don’t think he will win as it would require him to unflip all the stuff he flopped over plus the little issue where he destroyed records of his governorship. If he had nothing to hide why did he go to such extreme lengths to erase the records.
LOL! Love how you called him Mittens! Yeah, it’s hysterical how NO ONE in the media thought Newt would ever have a serious chance… and yet, here he is!
Apparently some of the conservative “intelligentsia” or “opinion-makers” or “thinkers” or whatever you want to call them TOTALLY despise Newt, and are, at most, lukewarm to Mitt, and are starting to give Huntsman a second look, as he is evidently quite conservative (much more so than his current image would suggest).
I’m (as a Democrat) torn between wishing Newt would get the nomination (as it’s quite hard to believe such a hypomanic hypocritical douchebag could win the Presidency, but then I also thought there was no way an idiot like GWB, who seems like Einstein in comparison to the current GOP field, could win the Presidency) and wishing for an obviously intelligent and sane person like Romney (who yet might get tugged to the side of GOP extremism…)…
OK, Mr Arrogant may have to wait a week. My computer and my scanner are arguing right now and until they are friends again, no scanning. Sometimes I hate technology.
K-addicts from Malaysia and Singapore may want to watch “Makcik Kay-po(p)” on Suria channel, Wednesday night at 9pm or the premiere episode on Youtube:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P3L5RuwtQL8
and
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQUstsWPNN0&feature=related
For those not in the know, “makcik” is the Malay equivalent of “ahjumma” and kay-po (a Chinese dialect word) means “busybody”. The half-hour comedy features 3 ladies, drawn to k-pop and all things Korean, forming a fan club called “kim-chik”!
I’m a Malaysian and yet I didn’t know about this!
Where can I join this Kim-chik club? I don’t mind showing my kay-po-ness. Hehe
Thanks for the links, Rubysing!
My apologies. This one is the premiere episode (part 1):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hsG8a1zpleI&feature=related
followed by (part 2):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eQUstsWPNN0&feature=related
The first link mentioned above is part one of episode 2. My bad… sorry!
Uh oh.
Already watching a twdrama (In Time With You), three kdramas (FBRS, OB, VP), and a cdrama (Black and White). Now an interesting Malaysian one? Ackk!
[searching frantically for a Harry Potter Time-Turner]
If you one of those Time-Turner thingamajig, I’ll buy it!
If you found one of those Time-Turner thingamajig, I’ll buy it!
Unfortunately, the magic has been disabled for us muggles [sigh]. Oh well, sleep is overrated, even for us working stiffs.
Hermione got all the fun. Unfair!
Yeah, but she got stuck with Ron Weasley, so it’s even.
What… You don’t like the red-headed boy?
Nah, too wishy-washy for me. Personally, I like Neville: kind to his parents, kicka$$ at the right time. Go figure.
OMG – My willpower broke down and I watched that first episode. That just made me bust out laughing. Unfortunately, I was drinking milk at the time so, well, you can just imagine.
The funny thing was, my first KPop music video was DBSK “Keep Your Head Down”, but my second was the exact SuperJunior one they showed!!
I think I made need to check my house for hidden cameras.
“made” = “may”
On a side note, is english a major language in Malaysia?
My new priest is a Fillipino who grew up in Malaysia, but he speaks english very well.
Malaysia is populated with people of various ethnic backgrounds. A mega-diverse country with speakers of 137 languages. The official national language is Bahasa Malaysia, a standardized form of the Malay language. English was the de facto administrative language up to 1969. It remains as a second language and is taught in preschool up to tertiary education. Most Malaysians are multilingual, speaking their mother tongue at home and learning standardized Malay and English in school.
Cool, thanks!
With english being such a twisty language, it’s got to be hard to learn it on top of your native tongue. Heck, being American still doesn’t mean I understand everyone I come into contact every day, and supposedly it IS my native language.
Yes, it was a challenge at first. I had the courage to actually speak English when I was 15. I’m still learning and trying to improve my English to this day.
Well, you type it very well!
Also (chock this up to a nosy round-eye). Does everyone out there use a standard 103-key keyboard?
Sometimes in these dramas, I’ll watch somebody’s hands and it looks like they have to build each character / kanjii / alphabet letter with multiple keystrokes. Same with texting on handphones.
I use the standard keyboard myself. Maybe the speakers of such character-rich languages use a keyboard with special characters/kanji too.
Hello everyone! I’m finally back on the OT after being absent for the whole semester. It was a crazy one but I survived and and now home HOME, where I get fed by Mum. Needless to say, life’s good again.
I hope everyone has been well.
On the KDrama front, I’m currently watching “The Musical” (one ep per week is torture) and planning to take on another series. Also, I’m following the TwDrama “Office Girls” and my! it’s a really great show. Finally, I was introduced recently to the anime “K-On!”, a slice-of-life anime about a high school band and it’s a hoot to watch.
Happy Friday!
Hmm… Office Girls is really popular but I watched 7 episodes but decided (due to my urget need to cut down the number of series I am watching…) to drop it because I just didn’t like it… it just seemed like any other show….
It works for me though! Hahah. Well, we all are different.
Did you eat nasi lemak and drink teh tarik yet?
You never really returned home, unless you have those.
Welcome back, Schmazel! Selamat kembali
Terima kasih, Ricky. And yes! On the very day I touched down at KLIA I was taken to my favourite gerai and gobbled everything in sight. Hahah.
All the best in your finals!
Ooh, now you’re making me wanna have a mamak session.
Thanks, BTW.
are you from indonesia? salam kenal
Nice to meet you, missjb!
But no, I’m from Malaysia.
Being fed by mom is a good thing. I’m in my 50′s and still look forward to Christmas at “home” with mom’s tamales, and chile verde and tortillas and cinnamon rolls and honey mustard-glazed ham and homemade dinner rolls and etc. Even though I now know how to make those things, it’s always better when mom does it. Enjoy your holiday with your family1
Thank you! Mum’s make everything taste better. (:
Shel! I loveee tamales! We make them every year around this time, homemade ones are the best!
I’m hoping to make some next week. Got my pork butt, made my sauce and the mexican market has fresh masa. Yum! I’m still going ‘home” to AZ for Christmas, but my freezer will be full of yummy tamales for the next few months.
My brief marriage was to a Texican, Shel – his auntie taught me to make tortillas and a few other things, and one Christmas I was there to participate in the tamale making. SO GOOD. No restaurant could ever touch them. But my favorite thing, actually, if you know it, is migas – a breakfast dish.
I don’t know migas. I wonder if it’s TexMex. Where I grew up, we ate mostly sonoran style food. My mom made tortillas every week for years. Now there’s a great tortilleria not far from her house and she says she’s older, tireder and richer so she buys them. But I love that place….they have a big long grill at one end and all these Mexican abuelitas patting out and stretching tortillas by hand (kind of like pizza dough). They make these huge, 14″ tortillas that are perfect for big fat burritos.
Funny that I can’t find a decent tortilla in Central California anywhere…at least not the big thin sonoran tortillas. I’m getting psyched to go home…I hope I don’t come back 10 lbs heavier. We have a big extended family Mexican buffet dinner for Christmas Eve.
Welcome back, Schmazel!
Glad you are back at the PARTAY!
Pick up a [festive drink of your choice] over at the buffet table. We also have a lot of [that thing you love] if you get hungry again!
Thanks! It’s great to be back. *glug*chomp*burp*
Hi Schmazel! You’re finally back from the Land Far Far Away! Welcome home!
Thank you YY! It’s really good to be back home.
Welcome Back! Anime, huh? OCKoala got me hooked on mangas right now, so I’m not going to add anything to my list or I may go crazy!
Yeah. Look at all the new dramas premiering on cable networks! I might pick up one or two after they have finished their run (marathon!) so that I won’t have to wait in between eps. Thinking of “Me too, Flower”, “Colour of Woman”, “What’s Up” and maybe an older family series like “Dandelion Family”. Okay…I am really bad at math. LOL.
Happy Friday everyone!!!
too bad I can’t watch any dramas as of now, because of my internet connection! it’s not that good and I hate! so I can only depend on DB for the recaps!! and I love reading it!!
It seems like everyone is talking about Me Too, Flower….is it really nice?? I’m not a big fan Lee Jia…but I like Yoon Shi-yoon…
Did someone already watch Color of Woman with subs?? After reading JB’s post…I wanna watch it!!!
Hi, Neener ~
When you’re back on-line, CoW (heh! Just realized what the initials spell for this drama. It’s totally insulting, but funny.)
Anyway, Viki is doing the subs.
hahahahaha – plus, this one looks good, doesn’t it?
It is really good. CoW’s like a hybrid of Protect the Boss, TWWSWTM and Personal Taste with the female lead’s personality and her relationship with her frienimy turned friend. I like those relationships a lot more than antagonistic catfighting. The girlfriends forever vibe rocks!
I’m just happy Jae Hee’s back from army duty and on the TV screen.
I’m just hoping for a towel-wrapped scene like Lee Ki Woo. [eyes locked onto screen].
Hmm sounds like my type of drama… It’ on my “to watch list” now
. Is it somewhere available for download?
Happy Friday everyone.
Hope you’ve had a good week.
So good to catch the start of OT this week-recently I seem to coming in after everyone’s been and gone.
Wonder what everyone’s enjoyed watching this week.
I enjoyed marathoning the episodes of Ojakgyo Brothers I’d skipped as well as catching up with the newer ones. So good. Though I nearly died over Tae Hee’s behavior in the last 2 episodes, #35 and #36…
Totally on board for Color of a Woman. So much more so than Scent of a Woman-sorry to Kim Sun Ah.
Well I better get back to FBRS #12.
All the best for the weekend and the week ahead.
I started New Heart, my first medical drama ever. I am pretty impressed actually, I expected to be bored but the first episode was enjoyable and I really liked the characters.
I also started a J-drama with a complicated name, which is about a housewife who becomes a part-time detective. Also quite nice, despite not being very original.
I watched Obstetrics and Gynecology Doctors… I sort of expected to dislike it (I like House because Hugh Laurie is super-hot, but otherwise I generally don’t love medical dramas… don’t care to be reminded of all the unhappy days I spent in med school and residency), but it was actually pretty enjoyable.
Sorry you’re feeling stressed… hope things will ease up a little bit soon
Funny thing is that one of the main reasons I’m being so stressed is that I’m on holiday and NOT working yet. I’m fighting with bureaucracy, waiting for some papers to be ready, waiting for some answers from the future employer… yeah, I’m very eager to be back in hospital. Who cares about Christmas now
. Doing nothing is sometimes so hard…
I vaguely heard about Ob-Gyn Doctors but haven’t seen it for download. I tried a bit of Brain but it’s not my thing it seems. There are also a bunch of Japanese medical dramas but I save those for later since New Heart has 23 episodes!! It will take an eternity to finish them. Maybe the whole residency.
Hi Plume.
That Japanese drama is the only JDrama that I’m really following at the moment.
I really like the character Jinnai.
Ah, I think I might know what you mean about your stress. I think that sometimes, for some of us doctor-types (those with the kind of obsessively structured and orderly and compulsive personalities required to get through med school), being in a state where important things for us are completely unpredictable and uncertain, and there’s nothing we can do to bring the situation either under our power or within our zone of predictability… it’s stressful beyond belief. I hear you
I’ve thought about watching New Heart, but haven’t yet. Would you recommend it (as a soon-to-be cardiologist
)?
Sethe: you totally hit the nail on the head. I did become a control freak because of this profession so now anything that is out of control or unpredictable is perceived by my whole being as a potential threat.
On the outside I’m very calm so my parents add further stress and stretch my tolerance to its limits by asking for more action from my side. Action that I’ve already taken, there’s nothing more that i can do for the time being. Now I just have to silently wait and ignore all the whining and unreasonable complaints. Sigh.
As a pre-hospital care provider (ambulance EMT) for 25 years, I can say that the funniest thing about many medical dramas is how to accurately portray the hospital setting without blocking everything. For instance, why do even dying people only get a nasal cannula?
Also CPR stands for “Clean, Pretty, Reliable”, since, after a few chest compressions, a precordial thump and a single shock, the patient immediately awakes and talks! I want real life to be like that!
I helped someone give birth, and she bit me on the hand during the final push. I bet you’ll never see that on a medical drama!
Other than that, though, I always enjoy these types of shows, even though I can’t always ‘immerse’ myself in the storyline.
Good luck to you all with your residency / education!
I’ve seen neither Grey’s nor House, but I recall my colleagues saying stuff like “Amilloidosis! Yeah, I remember that from Dr. House!” or “It’s never lupus!” (also from House M.D.). So I guess their first contact with some medical terms in the preclinical years was through such T.V. series.
I don’t have so many practical skills yet (as a student you only get to do stuff now and then if the medical staff is tolerant enough to let you try it), that’s why I’m so eager to start working at last.
Shykmeister: In dramas everything is cleaner and prettier and they spare people of the appaling/embarrassing aspects of a normal day in hospital, that’s why I wasn’t interested medical dramas before. It’s some sort of “fantasy with doctors” for the people outside the medical system I think. In my first years of med school my colleagues claimed they learned stuff from Grey’s Anatomy and Dr. House, but I was really skeptical towards that. What interests me in such drams is rather the relation between the characters, how they mix the professional attitude with friendship etc. And I like the eye candy
. My colleagues are not that handsome in real life. As for the interesting cases and procedures, I’d rather go straight to the source. Or pick up a medical text-book.
Has anyone seen White Tower?
I can’t imagine what your friend learned of the medical field in Grey’s Anatomy. Was there medicine in it?
White Tower’s on my list to see, but just cannot squeeze it in right now. My last two were KDrama “Sign” (medical examiner/ detective procedural), and JDrama “Code Blue” (rom-drama centered around first years who want to become flight medics on a helicopter called “Doctor-Heli”).
I think the average person thinks of the medical field as this mysterious field shrouded in mist where everything is a matter of life or death.
The truth is, most medicine is practical in nature. In my field (prehospital care) this is main truth: air goes in and out, blood goes round and round, and anything different from that is problem. While I know that in 25 years I have made a difference in the length and quality of years of many patients, in reality, it’s mostly putting the white stuff on the red stuff. So it’s really a practical discipline based on experience.
Of course, I don’t have the years that physicians put into college and education, nor any particular specialized skills beyond defribillators or IV’s, but then I don’t have the student loans and stress either it. It helps that my city is strictly volunteer for Emergency Medical Services, and they foot the bill for any additional training I request or require.
Of course, I won’t say no if someone gives me chocolate-chip cookies as a thank you. That’s also practical… ^-^
Well, some medical dramas are soap operas (Grey’s Anatomy, Scrubs), and some actually care about the science.
I already mentioned House… besides that Hugh Laurie is hot, I think the writers do their research, and the medicine in the show is acceptable. Same with ER (from a couple of decades ago… that was before I was in the medical field, but it seemed to me that the writers did their research and the show was pretty realistic).
How bad can it be, Ji Sung is in it, isn’t he?
Of course, KJH was in Lie to Me…so that approach may be flawed.
I haven’t seen New Heart yet, but it’s on my list.
Yeah, Ji Sung is a cutie
I would like to have such a colleague… His character in New Heart is really warm and enthusiastic and he’s got such beautiful eyes
When he smiles at someone, I bet it feels like the sun came out.
I love Ji Sung…but New Heart was….forgettable. Like, I can’t remember the good OR bad parts. Half the time I forget it existed…so kinda a waste of 16+ hours
I’ve only seen the first episode so far, so I can’t recommend it yet to anyone. But I feel a connection with the topic and the characters so I’ll continue watching
.
same here! it wasn’t bad especially since Ji Sung was in it and he deff has a special place in my heart since Save the Last Dance for Me was my first Korean drama, but I didn’t like Kim Min Jung. She annoyed me a tad bit, those bug eyes are intimidating!
Try “Code Blue”, a japanese 2-season series. It’s a little over-the-top (first or second episode has a field amputation of an arm stuck in an industrial press), but it’s an interesting read on emergency care. It can be found on dramacrazy.net, I believe.
They have stuff like a discussion of a patient that presents with a toothache but ultimately codes out from Coronary Artery Disease.
Just a thought.
Hi Plume.
That Japanese drama is the only JDrama that I’m really following at the moment.
I really like the character Jinnai.
Since I’m horrible with names I’m not very sure who Jinnai is, but I suppose it’s that hot detective? He reminds me a bit about Shun Oguri in Juui Dollitle, same arrogance, same hairstyle, almost same face.
Yeh, it’s the hot detective. I wish Serina-the wife who turns detective-ended up with him but it looks like she’ll be with her husband in the end.
Oups, spoilers
. Anyway it’s somehow in the Japanese style to end up with the “reasonable” fellow, and not with the one we’d like her to end up…
I’m really eager to see Serina’s transformation.
I started sandglass- go hyun jung is really lucky with her roles
highkick- I’m really liking it although I think the drilled butt thing is not funny at all
tree with deep roots- losing some of it’s “traction” but still interesting and strong acting
all in- I’m 30 minutes into episode 16 finally
thousand days promise-I’ve paused episode 15 to say hi to you lot
flower boy ramyun shop- I think I’m enjoying it I can’t remember
ahjummabunny Love! *HUGS*
Think about adding Color of Woman to your watching list. I watched the first two episodes last night and liked them alot.
Hello Madam!
Where did you watch it? surprisingly I’m not ready to commit to a new drama yet but I will keep it in mind.
Viki has CoW and What’s Up?, too.
Yep, Viki is where I watched it.
who’s in that drama?
How is All In? I started watching the first 2 episodes then stopped… it just seem like such an exhausting drama…
If you recommend it though, maybe I’ll go back and finish it up…. the 3 main characters are some of my fav actors/actress.
Happy Weekend y’all!
Am I late for the party? I just finished watching MAMA 2011 on tv and Taboo on Nat Geo! Awesome Friday night! /forever alone
Is anybody here having second lead syndrome with FBRS? Haven’t watched a drama in ages and then I discovered FBRS this week and BAM! I am in love!
I’m only on ep. 6 because I’m catching up with True Blood as well. I’ve been restraining myself from reading recaps. Eep! Can’t wait for the last 4 episodes.
ach…wrong reply! asdfghjkl
I’ve been meaning to watch Ojakgyo Brothers…might start next week.
Happy Friday, Fellow Beaners!! Sorry that I have to post-and-run this morning, but hopefully we will be presenting closing arguments in our trial today if the other side wraps up their testimony as they (allegedly) have planned. If this drags on one more day, that means yet another long day at court, and I will have to miss our Holiday Party this afternoon. Oh well… the rehearsals for my feeble attempt at the Sull’aria were not going well at all — can’t find a good accompanist that can properly keep time! Maybe it’s a good thing… le sigh.
I also wanted to make sure that you have all seen these teaser shots from the Bachelor’s Vegetable Store filming that Channel A tweeted earlier this week. What an eejdit My Precious seems to be, running around in sub-zero weather, showing off those perfectly toned (but not oiled-down as far as I can tell… and I’ve studied these shots *quite* a bit ::ahem::) chocolate abs in front of such lucky ahjummas. My translating might be off, but one of the news sites stated that after these scenes were wrapped, either JCW or his Han Tae Yang character had to be taken to hospital for treatment. Praying it’s the latter instead of the former, or else I’m gonna have to starting looking into flights to Seoul to go beat the PD-nim over the head with a large stalk of celery!!
12 days to go!!! http://tinyurl.com/755kbam http://tinyurl.com/6n2cek3
Anyway, just wanted to say hi to everyone (*waves*), and I’ll be back in some form of sub-human being later. Mata ne!!
Whoa! Hang on, kiddies… that first link became corrupted somehow. Use this one instead: http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/cc405/CherKell1/Bachelors%20Vegetable%20Store/040ee1ea.jpg
ha ha ha! Did the PD read our thoughts??? We ask for a shirtless JCW and he gives us one!
There IS a god in heaven.
I think he’s having a bad dream. I get that sometimes. I dream I’m at a party and I’m not wearing anything. Seriously!
Awww, he looks cold.
Hold on – let me share my body heat…
**taking top off, skin-to-skin contact is much more effective**
Also, 6PACK!!
WOOT!!!
LOL
Here comes the Veggie-mania again!
*sits back and munches popcorn*
Since whe are in veggies territory, i wouldn’t use celery but grenades to settle the score. More effective.
Happy Friday, dear Beanies!
For those who are not yet watching Tree With Deep Roots, I suggest you put it in your must-must-see list. This drama positively, definitely, absolutely rocks.
It trumps all the sageuks, if not all the kdramas, out there, imho.
yes yes yes.. i am watching TWDR and I am not even a sageuks fan… the story is tight.. the dialog is clever and the acting is beyond solid… what a nice ride… I am about 16 ep in and figure will wait for more ep to marathon it… i am ready the recap those…
Oh.. i just marathoned Dal Ja spring last week.. what a nice drama.. I have never understood the buzz about Lee Min Ki… and I don’t really think that he is handsome.. i have never seen his drama.. and he totally win me over and i found him very chrismatic.. will have to catch more of his drama and movie now.. and where is Chae Rim.. never heard from her lately…
also.. can someone tell me where to watch Padam Padam with eng sub also what’s up?
After all the comments I have come across lately, I have added it to my must-see list. But after The Moon Embracing the Sun, which will be my first foray into sageuks…
Based on the first chapter book club recap of MoonSun over at (Electric Ground, I think?), with the people selected to act so far…
omo, omo
we’re going to die of happiness.
Happy Friday everyone!!! Shout out to everyone taking finals right now.
It’s getting especially brutal so I suggest a drama-detox for now. It’s hard… I know lol
1. Saw What’s Up the other day. Was REALLY impressed despite the lack of buzz on various forums. The way it was broken up into “act” like scenes (my interpretation) was brilliant. I was especially impressed by Im Ju Hwan and how he acted his character, making him both pitiable, lovable, and detestable. Misguided youth indeed.
2. Saw Vampire Idol! That was a good throw back to early 90s easy sitcoms, similar to Power Rangers imo. I really liked it because of the nostalgia factor, and all of the pretty! Soo much pretty. And Shin Dong Yup looks badass, for a funny looking ahjusshi.
3. Pretty much gave up on Panda/Pot you guys. Throw me overboard if you must :/
I watched What’s up without subs. I really enjoyed the first episode but i found the second one boring. I’m going to rewatch it after the subs come out just incase it was the dialog that was interesting. I really like Im Ju Hwan, so i want this to be good.
ahh, now I’m nervous. I only had time to watch the first episode so I dont know how episode 2 is.
I think I was mostly impressed by episode 1 because I had high expectations, and it still didnt disappoint me.
I actually adored both episodes. It’s at the top of my list atm, and imo, is the best of the collage music trio (Heartstrings/the musical/what’s up).
Viki is doing What’s Up.
Surprised there isn’t more reaction to it since it was awaited so eagerly by lots of watchers.
I like it but find the overall visual look of it to be kind of ’80′s in appearance (think “Fame” or “Flash Dance”) – but, I really like Daesung and hope he does a really good acting job here. Had no idea of the power of his voice. It’s truly impressive – the boy should be doing musical stage now that he’s back in public.
I think most of the fans just forgot about it. I would have too if i didn’t love Im Ju Hwan so much.
But sadly, I don’t think this will be my drama crack even though i really want it to be.
I agree with the 80′s thing now that i think about it. I think maybe that’s why I found the second ep boring. It didn’t feel current. the first episode had a compelling plot which made me forget about the lighting and the cinematography etc. but the second, not so much.
I really hope the plot picks up. I have so much hopes for this becuase the writer did sandglass and that is one drama that I found really amazing (though I still have to find the guts to watch the last 4 episodes)
yea… I wasnt too impressed by the camera/quality of the series in terms of visual presentation. It seems a little dated but not too bad… I’m used to watching sitcoms with the same time of film, so What’s Up is waaaay better in that aspect
I, too, hope it’s good. I was so excited about it because of the writer and the actors in it:/
It’s funny how important the visual “style” in Kdrama pretty much decides whether or not I’ll be watching it, almost regardless of content.
If it doesn’t look good, I find that my tolerance level goes WAY down.
That’s one of the main reasons why, while watching Vampire Idol, within the first 15 minutes I was having my doubts. The cheap production values, plus the added insult of a canned laugh track made it look and feel like a high school production. Thank God No Min Woo dropped out of this – I would have been embarrassed for him to be in this.
I am really surprised to see how much JB & GF like VI – in my several years here reading recaps and reviews, I can’t remember another drama where I disagreed so much with their take on it. I totally hated it. Anyone else see it?
FYI: Bigbangvip.com is subbing this series. They already finishing translating episode 1, it’s currently in timing.
finally there is someone watchin gwhat’s up.. where you get soft subs??? I really want to watchit with subs but since it’s not popular, it so hard to get it..
Personally, I saw it raw because I didnt have the patience to wait for full subs. As Cynthia said though, apparently it’s on viki…
oh thanks for that…. I really want someone subbing it…
WOOO Top 20! Happy OT everyone!
same to you!!!
Finished Dream High last night. (Sorry Raine, no re-watch of Ahjussi, but I will watch it tonight.)
I even stopped watching WBDS to concentrate on Dream High. It took longer than I expected because I kept youtubing the flash mob and laugh-crying.
Am now UNREASONABLY excited by the prospect of Dream High 2…although I am afraid that the first one was just the perfect meeting of my heart, those actors, and that plot. It might not be the same for me second time around…I keep thinking that if I loved this show so much as a grown up and a mom, how did 16 year old girls and boys manage to keep from exploding with joy watching it?
Now I need to re-watch Ahjussi with Raine, and re-start WBDS, and I have to check out Vampire Idol. I watched the last two episodes of FBRS raw, but then found them on KimchiDrama with subs a full two days sooner than DF does it, so I’m caught up there.
Sunday night I have to watch Bag of Bones on regular tv, and I am an episode behind on Once Upon a Time, Grimm, and American Horror Story – I missed the Black Dahlia ep on that one.
My daughter called this morning and she’s coming home tonight with 3 boys for a quick overnight visit. This is a girls house, and 3 boys is a lot. Plus, two of them are well over 6′ (one is 6’5”) and 200lbs plus and they apparently eat constantly. So I think that means I need to go shopping after my work christmas party at lunch!
YOur daughter sounds like my son, only cheaper, lol. He used to come home from college over 4th of July weekend with four or five girls. Girls eat a LOT less, lol.
He worked his way though dating them all, married one of them and they’re all still friends, go figure.
One of these boys is special to her, Shel, and they have a bit of a thing, but it’s constrained by a highschool girlfriend back home who he promised not to go off to college and then break up with. Sigh. Kids…how do they not realize how dumb they are?
Anyway – they showed up last night much later than expected (Boston traffic) and starving. I fed them baked mac and cheese, salad, kielbasa, and chocolate chip cookies. Happy boys. Enormous boys. The ‘small’ one is 6 feet tall and looks like a midget. One of them must weigh close to 300lbs and is well over 6 foot…the other is 6’5” and I’m guessing between 225-250. Just, massive.
And each one of them SO SWEET and polite and interesting. Art school boys. Tori says they live like pigs in their apartment, and spend all their time painting and drawing – but they actually rinsed out their own dishes last night and left them in the sink. No girl has ever done that, visiting here! They made their beds up, too. Even my tiny dog loved them and walked from lap to lap getting affection this morning.
Aww. I’m partial to big, sweet boys. My sister has three boys: 18, 20 and 22 and I adore them. But, they are all 6’4″. The 20 yr old is a beanpole, but eats like no one’s business, but the 18 and 22 yr olds both played football and are massive guys. The older one’s getting a little chunky as he’s not playing anymore, but the baby is solid.
This last summer they took a road trip from AZ to come see me and we had a blast. My daughter loves showing off her good looking cousins and I think they kind of like getting shown off, lol.
With The Boy and his women….it’s kind of funny because the one he ended up marrying was the one in the bunch that he said he wasn’t interested in. But, she’s perfect for him, and we love her to death.
I’m watching Grimm right now as well. Oddly, and most people were put off by this, I like the bloody aspect of it. I feel like it pushes the “reality” of the cleaned up fairytales to the extreme.
Good luck hosting that visit btw!
I think Grimm is excellent. It’s well-written, funny, beautifully filmed – visually it puts me in mind of the original versions of the fairy tales, which were much, much, MUCH scarier than what most people are familiar with.
Hi, another Grimm fan here.
We get another episode tonight. Yay!
I like that he is taking into consideration his feelings towards the characters and discerning who is naughty and nice. His police captain (?) must be a ghoul we have yet to see….
oh he is not just a ghoul…he is a very high-ranking whatever he is. Another came to town and was treated quite badly for not getting permission and not bowing down before him. I think it’s interesting that he is right there so close to Nick, keeping an eye on him. I don’t know that they want to kill him, exactly.
That scene that you are referring to was…crazy. I had to close my eyes.
I cant believe that they show that on tv; but then again, I dont know the time slot because I watch it online :/
The new episode was yesterday. They temporarily changed the time
yay mskololia and JoAnne!
I agree with what you guys said. It’s fun watching it with my little sister because she’s at that age when she’s reevaluating everything that she “knows” from childhood, and watching it with her gives us good things to talk about.
Do you think that the police captain is a reaper? Some people were suggesting he’s some sort of fox creature because his name is similar to that in french (was reading the forums). I cant think of any foxy creatures in the original tales, but I haven’t read them all so…
The only thing jarring, for me, is the use of german terms. But, it’s not that bad and I like how they try to incorporate that culture into the series
Alvina, I want to say his captain may be “troll”. But a fox does sound intriguing but we have already seen the “Little Red” episode and creature.
I go for a troll only because those creatures are portrayed as being very territorial or something in fairytales. No? And I agree with JoAnne that the police captain is high-ranking and very composed to the point that Nick has not discovered his true identity. He does not give way to his true face. How is that for a commentary on today’s society with your little sis?
That scene with the German (?) reaper dude shook me because he always seems so pleasant. The man is evil and I believe he told the blond that they want to use Nick for their own gains….
I’m intrigued about the show’s addition about Grimms in general. Apparently, Nick is part of THE Grimm lineage but there are people like Nick and his family…
I wonder what the larger category would be for their kind of people? Would they also be called Grimms?
I like your troll theory, and I could very well see a character like that introduced very soon. They already had a forest creature (the charming goat-like creature) once.
If you go on imdb, though, there’s a discussion about Capt Renard’s french origins… talking about the crafty nature. Although, in european fables, the wolf seems to be the more popular creature when talking about tricks. Fox is more of an S and E asian thing, no? The theory is interesting, but like you said, it’s a stretch.
I wonder if Nick’s partner will find out anytime soon? Or if Nick’s vet fiance is actually a creature? That might be a cool twist.
I like your theory about his vet gf being a creature and wonder if he was set up to be with her because of something she’s emitting to seduce/keep him. Maybe that is why his aunt said to call off the relationship.
Foxes are depicted as slippery and clever beings, but the captain is ruthless so I do not see him as a fox creature especially since he is paired with the blond who seems to be death waking and disguised. She’s like his servant or a low rank officer in this battle that lies ahead of us.
Yes, I almost forgot that his aunt mentioned that there are more Grimms. I would love to have him go overseas on a case that involves a fugitive and meets some family members….
If I am remembering correctly, most of the fairy tales we know in the English-speaking world are of French and German origin.
Also, to the fox discussion – Yes, a fox is typically a sly, twisty creature. Tricky and deceitful, but also cowardly.
Wolves tend to be vicious and bloodthirsty in fairy tales. They will eat you, whereas a fox wants to take your food.
Unni- going to disappear from OT until tomorrow night. I didn’t get to Ahjussi either…I was Dream High’ing…:D I’m almost done.
Now my baby sister (she’s 21) is in a study crisis for her UGQE’s (the music exam you need to take to pass into your upper levels of music school.) I’m doing research on Martinu now…She has to analyze these 5 variations on a slavic folk song…Guh, its 20th century music. Not fun to analyze. Anyway, back to my college days for today and tomorrow.
<3
Raine, good luck and enjoy Dream High. I’ll be rewatching it over Christmas break with one of daughter’s friends, while I teach her to knit. My work essentially shuts down for the week between Christmas and New Years and I’ll just need to check emails for emergencies during that time; US and EU celebrate the holidays but a lot of places I work with are outside of those areas and still have stuff going on that needs to be monitored. Plenty of time for knitting and dramas though!
********Dream High Spoiler**********
DH! Ep 13 now. I had to stop for a while after 11 when he finds out about his hearing. It was my nightmare in Drama form with Soo-hyun acting. I went to bed crying and I had a nightmare about going deaf. His reaction would be mine…exactly….It was so much better portrayed than in Beethoven virus. This is what would happen to us if we went deaf. ACK!
**********end spoiler***********
In other sad news, my aunt is in the hospital on her birthday. Multiple sclerosis causes these horrible pains in the face and she hadn’t slept for days and refused to go to the hospital. But we made her go finally. Because she’s wheelchair bound she feels very helpless as a former travel journalist and completely independent woman. We’ve been taking turns calling her and cheering her up, but its been hard on everyone.
Man, that’s gotta be tough this close to the holidays. I hope everything works out for your aunt, even though there’s no cure found yet for this horrible disease.
Gotta leave for school in a bit so I’ll make this quick.
I really want to watch Color of Women. I read most of the recap last night and already fell in love with Sora. She is just an awesome character and I’m actually excited about this girl-mance? womance?
Currently watching a JDrama Yokai Ningen Bem. I didn’t think I would like it because of the monster costumes but it grows on you.
Also, has anyone watched Night Hospital? How is it?
I haven’t heard much about Night Hospital. But I’m with you on the first two you mentioned!
Has Color of Woman been subbed yet? Or does anyone know where it will be subbed?
I think epdrama has the first episode up but I don’t know if its subbed yet.
VIKI
I’m not in the US
I know there are other music lovers here, so I thought I would throw this out…
Dear Drama Gods,
Please add a KDramaland Commandment that states that Bobby Kim must sing a ballad on every KDrama OST.
Much appreciation,
-Tammie
Goes to research Bobby Kim… I’ll be back!
Hmm, good voice. I personally prefer a little big deeper tonal quality, maybe baritone?
I fell in love with his voice during the mess that is called Spy Myung Wol. Here’s a youtube of the song:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrj-khcUdKc
He’s got another song on the MOH soundtrack that’s great. There is an earnest-ness in his voice that I am drawn to. If anyone knows of any others, I’m all ears!
which MoH song is it?
It’s called “Heartburn”. Here’s the link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7JLekS-wK8
I love that song! In fact I love MWS’s OST. The drama, not so much.
hmm which song of his are you blissing out on? I sometimes get down to yak han namja. Is he on bad guy’s soundtrack? My real favorite though is jung yup.
recently,im hook with color of woman after watching ep 1 & 2,quite refreshing plot with Jae hee(long time not see)hehehe!,hope there will be continue with the recaps..have a nice day javabeans and everyone!
Oh! I just watch both ep’s last night! I was hooked immediately. Good writing, good cast!
I like it, too. Love these dramas where the women have friendships instead of catfights.
The relationship of Sora and Roomie in CoW reminds me of the one in PtB with the 1st and 2nd leads becoming friends.
Exactly! Of course I miss that wacky female wrestler roomate! She was a real hoot!
im totally agree with you,im vote for friendship..love the way they bickering with each other, how i wish i have a roommates.:)also nowadays people always take for granted in name of friendship.hope they will never replaces sora & jinjoo closeness with some evil plot..hehehe¬!
Hi! Happy OT Friday!
I’ve been very busy lately, and kinda out of the drama watching except for FBRS … okay lying. I also watched Me too, Flower, until I got bored around ep 7. I think I’ll catch up later…I’ve been trying to find a watchable version of Biscuit Star Teacher Candy but can’t seem to on dramacrazy or mysoju or any general search.
I also have a desire to watch a movie that I saw a half hour of w/out knowing the title, and I thought someone might know what it is if I describe the half hour. {Please, please, crosses fingers} A Japanese student is studying in China. He rents a flat from a women and her daughter who run a convenience shop. The boy has a girlfriend in Japan and they send letters to one another. He owns a red bike. The girl takes care of his bike, she appears to be infatuated with the student. The postal couple may break up. All the colors are rich and the music is pretty. It’s all modern time period, based on the cloths.
Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
If you don’t mind them RAW. Goto http://www.hanju1.com
Great video quality!
http://www.hanju1.com/movie/11582.html
oh I know what you’re talking about!!! There were three parts to it, set in Shanghai, Taipei, and Tokyo.
I’m pretty sure it’s called About Love.
If not… sorry I couldnt help more haha
Great!!! Thank you, MJP and Alvina!
But it is available:
on mysoju under a different name – Hello My Teacher
on dramarazynet under – Biscuit Teacher
Were the key words there “watchable version?”
I can’t check for you because my work network blocks streaming video, for some strange reason. Ha!
And when you decide to download, it is at
Am-addiction
My Asian Cinema
Dramaload (Hello My Teacher)
Jomo,
thanks…I will probably make the download jump eventually. As for your question, yes, sadly the dramacrazy and mysoju versions are not user friendly.
I would fail to work if there were streaming video at work. Absolutely fail.
Actually, I remember looking for it last year and running into the same problem. I didn’t decide to download until after Best Love happened and I HAD to watch more of Gong Hyo Jin.
They added a new stream on dramacrazy just now. Maybe that will work for you? Both videoweed and speedy joe worked for me, but didn’t try wat.
http://www.dramacrazy.net/japanese-movie/about-love/
kinda sad there’s so little talk about what’s up :/ (I guess mainly cos of the promotions too) but I’ve watched the first two episodes and it’s really quite impressive. not much singing yet except for Daesung (who can REALLY sing) but I’m kinda liking where the drama is leading to.
Hi @smiless. I need the subs to watch so that’s my delay in watching. Folks are very busy subbing of late with the influx of new dramas.
Happy OT Beaners!
I loved his parts! I was afraid to get my hopes up…(I mean, look at DBSK – Yoochun and Jaejung did pretty well….but don’t get me started on Paradise Ranch ^^;; ). So I was happy that he was believable as well as a (obviously) great singer. And I loved the quirky girl. Her audition was awesome.
Now I just want subs so I can watch AND understand it
What?!?!
You didn’t LOVE Paradise Ranch?!?!?
It was the most WONDERFUL, well-written, amusing, scenic, romantic……. never mind. Even I can’t keep on with all these horrible lies…..
Paradise Ranch SUCKED. Big Time. As in, the WORST Kdrama, possibly ever!!
**sigh**
I feel better now.
But JSW looked reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeally good losing the girl, again.
Okay, I’ll give you that one.
He’s a good looking guy, but I’ve always found him to be a little off-putting in that (now, don’t get upset – this is just my weird take) his head looks way too big for his body…
I had no desire to watch ‘What’s Up’ given that I am trying to reduce the amount of dramas which I am currently watching….
however I listen to ‘Lunatic’ and now have to watch this drama…
^sigh^ There goes my studying time…
Jo In Sung and Ha Ji Won are confirmed for the fantasy melodrama The King!! I’m soooo happy.
the king by chamae hong?!!!!!!
OOOOH!!!! Nice! I loved them in WHIB!
I’ve never seen JIS’s dramas, but I’m super excited!
Hi Everyone! *HUGS to all!*
I’ve gotta go pick up Wee MJP from preschool now, but I’ll be back soon!
HUGS back MJP!!! How are you guys?! I have MISSED you ALL so MUCH!
I saw Vampire Prosecutor being filmed, omggg. My friends and I walked right through the set, lol (they weren’t filming atm, thankfully). We ended up staying and watching them film for awhile (it was so freaking cold. Seoul has been around 0 celsius for a little while now, but omg. So. Cold. Apparently it even snowed a little bit this morning… I was asleep, though. I have no reason to be up at 9 on a Friday)
Anyway…. YEON JUNG-HOON SMILED AT US OMG. He’s so pretty to look at, oh my goshhh. ♥
Aw lucky, LUCKY you. Hey, say, do you like Paris ? What about switching hometowns ?
have never been but would love to go! But if you want to switch actual hometowns (mine is in the middle of nowhere, southern California) I’m down
unfortunately, my semester abroad is ending so I’ll be leaving Seoul in about two weeks…
Lucky you! Wish I had such luck!
Apparently they film VP around my school pretty often… what would have been really lucky is if I had known before now, haha:) my friends and I took sooo many pictures. We’re creeps. This brings my total number of seeing dramas being filmed up to….. 2. hahah.
How cool is that! Lucky you:)
Happy Friday everyone!!! This week I haven’t had any chance to watch any kdrama! Have exams on Monday and I cannot seem to revise!! Wonder if I will have nosebleed from too much of revision, stress and worry! I wann watch DaeSung’s drama and ad it looks like he got great reviews!! Anyhoo, enjoy weekend and I am back to revision mode*sigh*
Hi Everybody! Happy Friday!
It’s good to be back after missing a few sessions as real life intruded. I am actually happy this year is ending as it started with so much promise yet it veered to the left so to speak. It left me me stuck in a rut or in quicksand where I couldn’t go forward or backwards. But I am finally moving on looking for a job and looking forward to being an aunt for the first time!
K-drama front I have only being keeping up with Vampire Prosecutor but I will definitely catch up with Tree with Deep Roots, Gye Baek, Age of Warriors and finally start Sandglass (anyone wants to discuss the show on facebook with me and Jomo?) maybe start Flowerboy.
In the mean-time I have being watch cycles of American Next-top Model (I thought I was over the show but the all-stars brought me back uugghh!) But I still love it despite Tyra being over the top.
Finished Luther (what a fantastic show!) can’t wait for next season. Started Torchwood but it pales in comparison to Luther so I don’t know I will keep up with it. Any suggestions for another fab BBC show?
Shiku, Your name!!
*facepalm*
Hahahahahahahahaha… Why?
You no likey?
Blame Vampire Prosecutor, I got it from there and it made me laugh hysterically. It is such an oxymoron! Plus I wanted to make people laugh. Don’t worry its temporary.
I was confused, now I must find reference. Very funny in any event.
Oh, it did made me laugh!
Luther fan her @skikutowwshkb. I miss Alice and hope she comes back next season.
I LOVE America’s Next Top Model… why, I couldn’t say… it’s just SO addictive. If you like that, have you tried Project Runway? Another fantastic show (but different in that the contestants actually have some skills in something that they’ve worked at).
Who was your favorite Next Top Model?
Fave Top Model Dani/Danielle cycle 5 winner. Runner-ups Caridee English (cycle 7 winner) and Anne (cycle 15 winner).
I used to watch Project Runway but k-dramas got i the way but I want to watch the seasons I missed especially when it moved to Lifetime. But my fave winner was Christian who was so crazy but so talented.
(Umm, sorry if this posts twice… my internet is acting really slow and freezing a lot.)
I also really liked Dani and Caridee as Top Models (and also Naima, from way back). The modeling business seems pretty crazy, but Tyra seems to know what she’s talking about and doing in that respect, anyway.
From Project Runway, I also love Christian, plus Seth Aaron (got to love him for the name, right?
). I absolutely adore that show!
Also… there’s never much reason to tout (or even talk about) my home state of North Dakota, but 2 (that I know of) of the Top Models come from there… and those are some good stats for a state with such a small population
(For the record, I couldn’t stand Nicole, but Caridee was pretty awesome.)
You’re looking for BBC shows? Have you seen Sherlock? It’s first season premiered last winter with three “episodes” (but each one the length of a full movie), and it is FANTASTIC! Snarky, fun, modern, and it stars Martin Freeman, who played Tim in The Office (UK) and the porn actor in Love Actually. Totally worth looking up.
I also hear that The Hour is really good (it’s on my own to-watch list), with Dominic West from The Wire.
Yes, I love BBC. Unfortunately, Sherlock is not showing up on demand. I did catch the pilot last year though.
LOVE Sherlock. You can get it in netflicks, if you have access to that…
We or “I” stopped Netflix after being aggravated from starting Dark Shadows and stopping at episode 177 or some ridiculous number watched because they promised to get the missing episodes in short order aka lying to a customer and have not fulfilled this contractual agreement as far as I’m concerned. So, no Netflix and it has not been a big loss…..
DARK SHADOWS!!!!
I used to sneak watch (instead of napping on the couch) when I was 4, when it was airing on tv. Have always always always been in love with that show. Watched a lot of it on Netflix again the last couple years but yes, it’s irritating to have missing episodes.
I credit this show for forming my most enduring genre love – the supernatural. I’ve spent my life seeking out vampires, werewolves, ghosts, and witches to watch and read.
Almost forgot to say – you know they are making a movie of Dark Shadows, with Johnny Depp as Barnabas?
That was a secret shame/weakness of mine. The sets were soooo campy but loved the dialogue and the live action recording.
I always hoped that Barnabas would become human and ultimately thumb his nose at Angelique (or any other fingers he could chose).
Some of it is out in boxed DVD sets but its one of the more expensive ones out there, unfortunately. I was told that the entire series actually had a satisfying ending and tied up the loose ends, but I’ve never actually seen that part.
Being Human!
Why is all the hype about Flower Boy and not Me too Flower? Is it just because of Scheduler? (He will always be the Scheduler to me.) Or does Me Too flower have a poor marketing department. I had thought it was just in the States that it wasn’t getting it’s fair shake, but with them deleting an Ep it makes me think that it is all over.
But really, it is such a great show, and it isn’t even available on dramafever, viki, etc etc and you think they would have lept at the chance for it. The subs on KimchiDrama leave a lot to be desired sometimes. (but I am not complaining because at least I get to watch it).
Try epdrama.com. Sometimes their subs are stupid, too, but this one has been OK so far.
My understanding is that both Kimchi Drama and epdrama upload dramas to streaming sites after someone else has subbed them. I think that for M2F, they’re probably both using Darksmurf’s subs. Because they want to make the episodes available a.s.a.p., they upload the subs once they have been “fan translated”, but haven’t yet been edited by the “quality control” team. They have a good QC team working on M2F, so the subs have all been edited (through ep. 8), if you want to download them. It would be nice if there were a streaming site that had the fully edited subs available.
I totally agree that M2F is getting an unfair shake. YSY has melted all of my resistance to his many charms. I officially love him with all my heart. LJ is wonderful.
(But I do think that FBRS deserves all its hype because of the writing and how the OTP sets my laptop on fire when they get near each other. JIW makes me crazy.)
I did hear, however, that viki is subbing M2F and will release them after the show ends. That is good because then Dramafever will prolly put it up.
Dramafever only recently offered Baker King, the most wathche show from the summer of 2010, and it is very popular for them. Any delays from air to them offereing has to do with negotiations with the networks.
Hello!
I have been gone a couple of weeks working at my temp jobs, my first one was great and the one I’m working now is very disappointing. Oh well, really hope something better comes along.
I’m watching Sungkyunkwan Scandal and I really like it, but for some reason I’m having a hard time finishing it. I’m at the point where [SPOILERS] he finds out she’s a girl and he’s like you can’t study at SKKS, blah blah blah. Iunno, maybe my attention span is decreasing or something, not even SJK can keep me that entertained. Also, really random, I never really liked guys with long hair or facial hair but that changed when I saw YAI, he is quite something in SKKS.
I also have been reading Flower Boy Ramen Shop recaps (fantastic, so funny) and kang hyuk needs to step up his game. He’s not doing anything and it’s sort of frustrating for me.
Also, has anyone seen what’s up? What do you think? What do you think of the dream high 2 casting? I personally want more guys, but that may be just me …
How is everyone doing?
That’s exactly how i felt as well once i reached ep 16. I actually fast forwarded quite a bit and when i rewatch i only watch 1-16.
There are something you just can’t miss. the butt fight…
Then it picks up towards the end.
I guess I’ll just have to stick it out, or fast forward some parts like you said, and watch the ending. I do like it, I just think it is very slow certain parts
Same here! I think I stopped watching somewhere in the middle of episode 15 (whenever it aired last year). To this day I still haven’t finished it. As it turns out, everyone said the ending was bad anyway. I guess the good thing is that I only have only good memories of SKKS. It was the first drama I watched while airing and I still consider it one of my favorites.
Hello everyone!!!!! I haven’t been here in a while, and I haven’t kept up with any dramas, so I feel a little lost, but it’s so good to see you guys again!!
So, what has everyone been up to?!
Love you all! ♥
Welcome back, we missed you
How is school going on?
Viola!!!!! *hug kiss kiss kiss*
Welcome back! I missed you.
Viola! *hugs* You must be terribly busy in that Big Bad Hospital, so I wrote these Survival Tips to cheer you up.
How to Survive Your First Month in BBH (Big Bad Hospital):
1. Always skip/hop up and down the wards. Never ever walk like a normal human being. Skipping/hopping like a moron is so cute all the patients and specialists will go ‘Awww Dr. Viola’s skipping and hopping so cutely, what a girl, never fails to brighten up our days!’
2. When The Big Man talks to you, always answer in a moronic-cutesy way: let your tongue hang out and speak through it in a high-pitched cutesy breathy girlish voice: watch Tamra’s Seo Woo for pointers.
3. When The Big Man rebukes you for some mistake, bite the right edge of your lower lip like Oh Hani in Playful Kiss. This requires some skill. Practise in front of the mirror every night before you sleep. Be careful not to bite too hard! We don’t want it to bleed now!
4. Avoid bright light and always stand in the shadows when The Big Man does his rounds. When queried about this or that patient, answer from the shadows. This will create a mysterious aura about you. This will intrigue the Big Man, and his bad mood will dissipate in seconds.
5. When you have free time, do not squander that away on sleep. Instead, scour the halls, the corridors and the men’s washrooms for a glimpse of Hot Guys in White Coats. If you are discovered, quickly switch to Moronic-cute Skipping/Hopping to cover up.
6. OT – this is the most challenging of all, as you cannot skip or hop in the tight confines of the op theatre. But never fear! Decked though you are from top to toe in that awful plasticky raincoaty thing, your EYES are still free to summon the cuteness within you. Just try your best to make eye contact with the surgeons whenever they bark at you to DO THIS DO THAT…..the moment eye contact is established, start batting your eyes non-stop for at least 3 secs. This will reduce the surgeons to mushy pulp straightaway, I guarantee.
Shit, my med school and residency years might have been so much happier if I had just had your rules
Awesome! This will work for any difficult, stressy job!
Me Too Flower! and Flower Boy Ramen Shop have almost nothing in common plot wise or tone wise. I guess they both have the word ‘flower’ in the name and noona romances, but that’s not much. People seem to feel like they have to choose between one or the other, but why? I’m enjoying both immensely. I want Me Too Flower to have it’s full 16 episode run…
Happy Friday Everyone!!! I’m extremely excited to read all the drama review and end of the year wrap-ups. 2011 was a good year!
Happy OT everybody,
How is your Friday going on?
I´m almost over the jet lag, enjoyinmg my mom´s home cooking, and had a great day with my little nieces.
@ricky the royal highness nice seeing you back
@MJP I spent this aftenoon dancing like crazy with my 3.5 years old and I thought about Wee MJP.
Now is time to read all your posts and get up to date to comment more
LOL!
Hello, zgznoona!!!!
It’s good to be back.
I finished SKKS. Lee Sun Joon’s consulting the manual at the end. Hah.
I have three more episodes of Jumong .
What to watch next? City Hunter, Padam Padam ?
If a show is on Drama Fever, I can watch it on television via Roku. If a show isn’t on DF, then I have to watch it on the computer. TV’s a bit more comfy.
I’m thinking of either Nodame Cantabile or the Ojakgyo Brothers for my computer viewing.
So you could watch both City Hunter and Padam Padam on your tv, then. Do both – Padam Padam has just started so you’ll be waiting for episodes, and City Hunter is addictively good so you’ll be able to see as much at a time as you want, while you wait for the other.
Hi John,
Sorry I didn´t get back to you last week. I was getting ready for a trip.
As JoAnne says I would go with City Hunter. I have admit Padam Padam is not on my priority list, but is becasue I´m not a fan of melos and this one looks like one. But I think you are, so you might enjoy it.
I suggest City Hunter.
Particularly if you’re interested in learning how to kill using a spoon.
And learning the right (hot) way to rock a pair of pink pants!
I’m watching Nodame Cantabile right now. It was love at first sight.
I LOVE NODAME! I ordered it when I was halfway through it and own everything, specials, movies, dorama.
City Hunter is awesome. He can fight with anything. He’s ridiculously creative and emo without being annoying.
Lee Sun-joon’s manual consult. If I was her I would’ve just taken it and chucked it. Silly boy.
I just wanted to talk about Park Shi-hoo as I am currently obsessed with him ever since I watched the Princess’s Man after reading javabeans review. I’m currently sifting through his other dramas. To be honest, I did it because I wanted to see more of his pretty face. But if that was all he had, I would have bailed by now. He is definitely one of the better actors to have popped up recently. I am always immersed in his act, in the way he expresses his feelings through his sad eyes. They always get to me. He is one of those actors you tend to look pass the first time around for some odd reason. I say “some odd reason” because I honestly cannot remember why I did it in the first place. It baffles me because I like him so much now.
I have to say that I enjoyed both Prosecutor Princess and Queen of Reversals mostly because the romance between him and the respective leading ladies were so engaging. Honestly, it’s almost always why I love and watch Korean dramas. In Family’s Honor, however, I love him solely for his character. I’m about one fourth into the drama (it’s quite long, with 50 episodes) so the romance is still in its early stages. I’m sure it will be great once it’s in full swing. But I already love this drama because of his portrayal of the cold businessman, Lee Gang Suk. Oh, how I love this character. I haven’t gotten far enough to know the back story in detail but so far we know that his parents were quite poor when he was young and later became millionaires. His parents are naïve and uncultured but they are not bad people. Although Lee Gang Suk is the son, he’s really the head of the household. I think he feels bad for his parents. He was probably old enough, when his parents were poor, to understand and remember the hardships they went through to get to where they are now. That’s probably one of the reasons why he’s so loving towards them and indulges in their silly wishes. I love watching the scenes between him and his parents. He’s a protective and loving brother to an abnormally shy sister, too. You can clearly see that everything he does, he does for his family. He’s the one who takes care of every problem that arise in his family that you had to wonder how they will survive without him. I also love that the interactions between him and the professor are mature and level-headed, albeit hostile. Not every banter has to be loud and silly. They do it with poise and grace, and I guess that has a lot to do with the fact that the professor is so refined, too. He will grow as a person as the drama progresses, obviously, but I believe he’s inherently good. He’s just not showing it yet, at least not to outsiders. And last but not least, he is so damn hot! If this kind of person existed in real life (with his kind of face, of course! haha), I would marry him in a second, LOL.
He is one of those actors you tend to look pass the first time around for some odd reason.
I feel the same. I almost don’t remember him as the second lead in which star did you come from? I’m thinking about it now, and I didn’t mind him at all- or I wasn’t anti second lead and he wasn’t annoying or overly nice. I just didn’t consider him.
The last picture I saw of him, he looked like he had gotten plastic surgery. But then again, his mouth when not smiling always looks a little strange to me.
http://www.dramabeans.com/2011/10/park-shi-hoo-tweets-from-bali/
He looks the same to me, nothing different. Except maybe hotter than ever lol.
I first saw him in Queen of Reversals and loved him ever since. Pictures don’t do him justice. You definitely have to watch him on screen. I feel like in real life he must have a lot of charisma. The kind of person who everyone ends up loving after meeting at a party….He’s probably gotten away with a lot of mischief with that face and charisma!
Yes, that’s probably true, what with that adorable face! And yeah, you really do have to see him act. Once you do, that’s it, you’re hooked. It’s like falling in love with someone you thought wasn’t your type, haha.
@Malta, same here. First saw him in QoR and fell in love with him and his character.
He is a very good actor. Looks-wise, what engages me most is the smile. And you have to see him on screen to get its full impact. You know, he would have this serious expression, and then he smiles…Wow!
I wonder why most people here consider him as second lead in Queen of Reversals? He is usually the one referred to as the second lead who got the heroine. However, from the role and amount of screen presence, I would say he is on equal footing with Jung Joon Ho, who played the husband of Kim Nam Joo.
Oh, Park Shi-hoo. He’s perfect. Here’s a lovely screencap that I shot back when I marathoned TPM: http://s3.amazonaws.com/data.tumblr.com/tumblr_lsx65eF2zg1qf1ofro1_1280.jpg?AWSAccessKeyId=AKIAJ6IHWSU3BX3X7X3Q&Expires=1323575232&Signature=eKuPQ0U3tnx081jNx28hILOun0o%3D
SIGH.
I guess he’s still considered the second lead because in the beginning he was hired as such. He got the girl in the end but towards the beginning we barely saw him at all.
I’m not sure if you’ve watched How to Meet A Perfect Stranger with Kim Seung-woo and Park Shi-hoo but he was, again, the second lead that snags the girl. And it wasn’t the writer’s original intent. I think there’s just something about him that wins audiences. Park Shi-hoo just isn’t meant to be a second lead.
Ahh, love his smile, too! And his voice. That manly seductive voice. I notice he went extra low in the latter half of the Princess’s Man. Pretty freakin’ hot.
Oh the Shi Hoo smile. I feel like if he smiled at me I would just giggle like a fool and melt into a puddle on the ground.
And you guys just gave me my next installment of my PSH series on my blog!
SMILES!
Anyway, I saw him first in PP and actually was awed by the acting. I was immediately taken in by this man who seemed so straight forward but was hiding a HUGE secret. I expected some kind of hot lead so the looks didn’t surprise me. It was how much he made me love him throughout the series. (Kim So-yeon too)
But ya, the smile is pretty ridiculous….
YES!
Jo In-Sung and Ha Ji-Won reunite in:
“The King” is a fantasy mellow drama about a king and a princess from the South and North falling in love with each other. This storyline takes place under the assumption that the king still rules the country and the black comedy is what brings the excitement.

YES!
I see it was posted above. Ooops!
That’s okay, because I’m reading from the bottom up! So it’s the first I heard about it being confirmed! Thanks!!!
Ahh!! Loved them together in What Happened in Bali. I watched it not too long ago. Been wanting to see Jo In-sung in something new since then. And now, not only he’s in a drama again but with Ha Ji-won, too! Super.
i’m wishing for a quick sum up for ‘the musical’:))i love that show despite of all the delays and stuff….
Merry christmas everyone:))
It’s being recapped here on DB.
So what’s with the new dramas being broadcasted by companies besides KBS and SBS? Have they all always been there and just haven’t been broadcasting good dramas or just started to receive recognition? It’s adding to the number of dramas I need to watch, I’m digging myself a BIG hole…….
Wah! Give me all your quick drama watching skills!
Whoops forgot MBC also~
Some cable networks were already there like tvN and OCN, but there are 4 new ones Channale A, MBN, jTBC, and I think TV Chosun.
tvN and OCN had some good dramas before (although often underrated), but this year started compiting in regular hours with the main networks
Thanks for the song.
One that sticks to yourself
Whatever, you’re songs always post casts are always a “plus”.
More live recap..
DramaFever has announced that Padam, Padam will be available beginning tonight on their site! Watched the first 2 eps raw and they looked good, albeit confusing – I think a time jump was involved. Just hope that DF keeps up with the subbing.
Have seen a few comments upthread regarding “A 1,000 Kisses”.
At this point, our two leads aren’t cousins. Whew. ‘Cause otherwise, ick!
The poor mom is getting it from all sides, now.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they all just roll her up in a rug and beat the crap out of her with sticks. Poor woman. I just want to take her home with me and pat her head and give her tea. No good deed goes unpunished in this melo!
Amen. Tammie R suggested we put bad auntie and the evil daddy from Man of Honor in an arena and just let them beat each other to death. We could throw in the nasty ex-gf and stinky sister while we’re at it.
And Mom’s spoiled brat daughter isn’t winning any points with me, either.
Girl needs a fast smack when she’s in her (always) whining mood.
We should have a drinking game with this melo for every time someone gets slapped or gets water/juice tossed their way.
We’d need a gallon of Boone’s Farm Vino to get through an episode.
And how about Shrew Aunt giving those custom shoes to the maid?! Beeotch!
At least our ill-fated couple got to do the deed, even if she did take off in the morning, leaving her ring.
How much y’all wanna bet she’s now pregnant?!
HA! i thought i was the only one who thought that!!
Sorry to butt in.
Still think that mom in One Thousand Kisses likely didn’t do anything at all – but that there is a great misunderstanding (and that the real perpetrators are others).
I don’t know. Maybe I just want her to be innocent, but I have this hunch!
I’m with you. I find it difficult to believe anyone who is such a doormat ever having an affair in the first place.
This woman wouldn’t say boo to a little kitten. She really doesn’t seem the type.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who thinks that way! She’s covering up for someone much more terrible. Like Woo Bin’s Mom or the brother that went to America. Someone of that sort!
I need everyone to watch Brain the chemistry between the lead couple aka Hot Tension is just hot. And the rivalry and hospital problems are so good! It makes my Mon/Tues so fulfilling. Also A Thousand Kisses just had a hot bed scene and finally reached a climax. I guess MBC got the writers to listen because both couples are about to face a lot of problem. I love WooBin/Jooyoung so loving the angst. And poor Woojoomi they are about to face their biggest obstacle. Also FBRS is so good I need another Kimchi Kiss! What’s Up also needs better attention it’s a good K-drama just has a lot of behind the scenes issues.I hope dramabeans can recap Brain soon too.
Hello!so much happened this week and so much to say, but because of this stupid thing called exams… OMG who else is excited for the 1N2D friend special? I can’t wait till January 8th!! I chat wait to see UTW and LSK bromance …those voices *sigh*
But now back to exams.. >(
I saw that KBS isn’t allowing the Spy Myung Wol cast members to attend the drama awards. http://i.imgur.com/5O611.jpg
Soompi ran an article on this today.
I don’t think it’s a matter of KBS not allowing them to attend – I think it’s because the drama wasn’t nominated for ANYTHING, thus no representation is needed.
Or, KBS could just be punishing them…..
I’m watching the first episode of Padam Padam on dramafever right now and my mind is so BLOWN. The acting, the direction, the luscious camera….I’m only half through, but my expectations are crazy high now!
I’m wondering if I am the only one that feels this way, but… Is anyone else bothered by the teacher-student thing in FBRS? I know that it’s not really a huge plot point but it still really bothers me for some reason. Maybe it’s the fact that I’m in high school and the thought of anything close to that happening with one of my teachers is just too strange… Any one else?
I felt that way too when I first started to watch the show but now it doesn’t bother me anymore and I am enjoying FBRS a lot more then I did the first episodes.
I love it when they are all working in the shop together, that is my favorite part about the show tbh,
Hung out with people from my workplace for dinner at my new(ish) and it just so happens that I am in my quiet and socially awkward phase. First impressions are so important and sometimes I feel like I’m trapped by the first impression I give off. And it’s sort of hard to fit in since I’m a few years younger than everyone else, don’t drink (I get almost purple a shot of vodka), and still live with my parents.
Ugh, it’s time to rewatch some Me Too, Flower episodes and find comfort in watching Bong-sun be somewhat socially awkward too and watching Jae Hee watch Bong-sun with those intense expressions of his!
TGIF Peeps!
I want to stop in and praise Fighting Spirit starring Kim Ju-Hyeok and Kim Sun-Ah, plus other great supporting cast. Put me to tears… sooooo good~
Hope y’all enjoy it when you give it a chance.
I know it’s quite late for Open Thread. There is one thing I have to share before I forget about it. When I was listening to my fav Korean radio, TBSefm, one of the reporter for the radio mentioned about reading on dramabeans about Korea SNL. I was jumping up and down out of excitement to hear Dramabeans randomly mentioned on radio. It just shows me that the site has reached to a very broad range of audience.
That’s awesome! I think they deserve a lot of recognition for this site being a clearinghouse of all things drama-based.
Let’s see; in this OT we have people from France, USA (east and west coast), Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, the Phillipines, etc. etc. We have people talking dramas, movies, politics, and music. We have spontaneous short stories, amusing anecdotes, and slices of life.
Plus all the eye candy and goodies that JB and GF can supply!
It’s definitely one of best sites I’ve ever come across.
[thunderous applause and trumpet fanfare]
I’m joining you in the applause!
Best site E.V.E.R!
Amen!
Hear, hear! This was a place I stumbled upon when I first started watching KDrama in June. For a long time I didn’t even realize there were other sites, and I still barely look at them. It took me many months to bother with OT, but now that I do, it really supplements what I learn from JB and GF. Plus, so much fun!
I can’t imagine the amount of work that goes into a site like this, and I think they do it for fun, right – it’s not their job? So amazed and grateful for that dedication!
Very true ! Dramabean Bosses : We love you and thank you for your dedication, passion and hardwork. I hope you’ll stay with us for a very long time………..
I was just blown away by the first episode of Padam Padam. It definitely has 2 of the big three, necessary for an amazing Drama. The acting and the directing were, I felt on a different level. I’m hooked already.
couldn’t agree more! i initially watched the first episode without subs, yet i was instantly sold! i’m actually watching the subbed version right now and it made me love the drama all the more! it’s really off to a good start and i hope it will get all the credit it deserves.
Yeah it looks great
Maybe it will finally give my boyfriend Kim Bum more roles!!
Has anyone seen color of women?
what did it lack?
