Finally! “Now Is Our Time,” indeed. (Now is past time, I’d say.)
What’s Up has been in stasis forever, and even though it’s premiering this weekend — yup, tomorrow — we’ve seen and heard very little from it. Posters are out now, though, so at least there’s a teeny bit of movement in the promo front, which has been practically nonexistent for months.
The drama set in a university musical theater department is taking up the weekend prime-time slot on new cable station MBN, and will air episodes on Saturday and Sunday evenings. Given that its rocky production road has pushed back its premiere by over half a year, the drama has long since completed filming and will be 100% pre-produced. While pre-produced dramas haven’t had much luck hitting the popularity jackpot with the public, they do tend to boast higher than average production values. (That doesn’t mean pre-produced is automatically better — that’s dependent on writing quality — but it usually means pretty.)
A lot of What’s Up’s cast members have actually moved on to other projects (I wonder if that’ll keep them from being able to promote this show): Kim Ji-won is currently acting in High Kick 3, while series lead Im Joo-hwan is serving army duty. Lee Soo-hyuk is about to make his bow in a different MBN series, the sitcom Vampire Idol, and Jang Hee-jin already has another drama under her belt, Myung-wol the Spy, which wrapped this summer.
With such early buzz, a star writer (Song Ji-nah of Sandglass, Story of a Man, and Legend), and cast of budding up-and-comers, it’s amazing that this drama hasn’t had a smoother path to getting on the air. Maybe there’s something wrong with it that we aren’t aware of (since we’ve seen so very little from the production by which to judge it), or maybe it’s just been hit with a string of bad luck: First SBS canceled the timeslot it was slated to occupy (the now-defunct 9pm hour on Mondays and Tuesdays), then Daesung got into the car accident that led to a motorcyclist’s death, perhaps making some people wary of involvement.
But that aside, I’m looking forward to checking it out, even if it’s coming into a super-crowded field with very little fanfare. Let’s cross fingers for a decent premiere.

I saw that drama on viki few months ago and the comments added to the show were crazily entertaining. So much fun… I hated the girl part ( did she had extra lacrymal glands ?? ). Buy IJH totally conquered me. He was convincing in every aspect of his role : funny, serious, romantic, even action scenes ! I hope he’s doing fine in the army and hope this new/ancient work will be good.
I watched what’s up on youtube and everyone just talk about Daesung, so sad! But here, I see Team Park Kyu and feel happy! Love Park Kyu – Im Ju Hwan forever!

the mv makes since it has some dark feel to it. The original shots from way back seemed like this would be another fun lighthearted music drama but I like that they’re breaking the mode from what Dream High has set

Yay…I hope the acting and writing for the drama does justice to some, if not all, our expectations. It has been a rough path getting this drama on air but fans have been patiently waiting and hopefully it will not be in vain
I’m so excited…not only because of Daesung, my favorite idol and BB member, but because Im Joo-hwan was great in Tamna and I wanted to see more of him after that.

Judging from the teasers, it seem like KJW is going to be the centre of triangle love. Yet, in the posters it’s Im Joo Eun at the centre. On the official website of the drama, the characters introduction is only Im Joo Eun, Daesung, Im Joo Hwan, and two others..
So weird… i’m really not sure who is gonna be the female lead.
I was really hoping for Im Joo Eun especially after her acting in “Hon”. KJW is alright but she doesn’t really charm me (judging from 40+episodes of HK3)

earlier this year after finish watching Dream High, i was waiting for this drama so badly because i love watching music drama… i was really upset when it cannot be aired due to some issues.. AND NOW..YAYAYYAYA.. CAN’T WAIT TO WATCH THE FIRST EP… I hope this drama will be successful.. since i didn’t watch any good dramas since September!

You DO realize Daesung is in the drama and thus will be bringing a HUGE fan pool of Big Bang fans to the show right? lol
We’ve seen before that even an idol with a big fan following doesn’t necessarily mean instant numbers for a drama.
i think the “little fanfare” referred to the promotions being made for drama, not daesung’s casting. they should have advertised this drama better, maybe released more posters/stills and released them earlier like they usually do
