Dramabeans 5-Year Anniversary Giveaway #3

girlfriday: Week three of the blazin’ birthday giveaway extravaganza extraordinaire!

javabeans: You know what that means: More presents! Man, what a spoiled 5-year-old Dramabeans is.

girlfriday: Right? If DB were a kid, we’d have one needy brat on our hands.

javabeans: Then again, most 5-year-olds receive presents, and DB’s giving ‘em out. Although I don’t know who gave that kid my credit card info.

girlfriday: Is that what’s going on? That explains a lot. This time we’re giving away a brand new iPod nano, but that’s not the best part. It’s chock full o’ goodies! It’s got a Javabeans Playlist on it, which I’m gonna venture to say is worth more than the player itself.

javabeans: We’ve also got a few more premium memberships to give out to Dramafever, in case you want to get friends/siblings/parents addicted to your drama poison of choice. Because as we know, drama addictions are best shared, not cured.

girlfriday: Yeah, rehab’s for quitters, and we’re no quitters!

javabeans: So get crackin’! By which we mean, please post up lots of nice thoughts for our many many guest posters over the years.

girlfriday: They know how much we appreciate them, but as we know from personal experience, sometimes the warmest thanks comes straight from you guys, so please be generous with the love!

And the winners of Giveaway #2 are…

  • Bethany, winner of a one-year premium subscription to Dramafever,
  • PrincessSerenity81, winner of a one-year drama membership to Crunchyroll,
  • and Bluefyre, winner of one $100 gift certificate to Yesasia.

Congratulations! We’ll be contacting you shortly via email. On to the next one!

Giveaway #3

Question: Actually it’s not a question this time, but a prompt: Thank a guest blogger, any guest blogger. That can mean any of our current contributors (i.e., gummimochi, kaedejun, HeadsNo2) or anybody who’s ever written a guest post on Dramabeans in the past. (*Don’t forget to use a valid email address, and please indicate at the bottom of your comment if you are NOT a resident of US/Canada.)

Prizes:

  • 1-year premium membership at DramaFever (US/Canada residents only)
  • another 1-year premium membership at DramaFever (US/Canada residents only)
  • an iPod nano (maybe with some stuff on it, wink-wink).

DramaFever offers free legally-licensed dramas and movies with high-quality English subtitles. With a premium membership you can watch unlimited, commercial-free, and enjoy extra content as well as unlimited mobile device access and high-definition. Check out recently added titles here.

Winners announced: Sunday, January 22, at 8pm, Pacific Standard Time*

*Or, 10pm in Mexico City, 11pm in NYC, 1am in Buenos Aires, 4am in London, 5am in Paris, noon in Singapore and Manila, 1pm in Seoul and Tokyo, or 3pm in Sydney and Vladivostok. Okay, you get the point. (You can refer to this handy Time and Date converter to find out what this is in your time zone.)

I love Samsooki! His recaps on City Hall really cracks me up. I am always looking forward to his comments as much as the recaps =) And in Open Threads, though i haven't followed the threads religiously, but when i see him in the thread, i will certainly follow it. He gives advises and answers any questions. His knowledge on Kdrama is the one that i admire the most and to think he has a demanding day job (from what i gathered from the thread). On top of that, he practically know most of the regulars =)

So i take this opportunity to sincerely give my heartfelt thanks to Samsooki and to ask also, what is the meaning of the name Samsooki? <3

Dear gummimochi, thank you so much for recapping Running Man (RM). Recapping is really hard work (since I have done it before myself, though not for Korean dramas because Korean isn't the language that I'm good in), so really, I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Thank you so much for taking time off your schedule to fill us in on what's going on in RM. I watch RM with subs but I still come here to read your thoughts and see the screencaps.

I have probably never left any comments on your posts since I'm a silent reader, but here, I would just like you to know that you've really done a great job! I don't come here very often now due to my heavy workload in school (which means I can't watch that many dramas now), but reading those RM posts after watching it brings a smile to my face.

And to all other recappers, thank you all for the hard work as well! ;)

Last of all, thank you javabeans for the conception of this website! <3

First: red pill, for recapping SKKS, i could have never loved that wonderful drama more without your wonderful recaps. You made me appreciate the drama more.

Second: HeadsNo2, for your working Tree With Deep Roots. I know I am trending on sageuk. I love them. But with recappers like you guys, I am addicted to them.

Thanks.

I want to sincerely thank gummimochi for the amazing RunningMan recaps and the superb collab work with JB on High Kick 3, which I like to read about more than watch it haha You are witty, charming, honest and you get perfectly to the point without missing any important details :) You are the one, who confirms my thoughts and even gets me to think about some stuff, that I normally neglected. All in all, you did, are doing an awesome job and I really hope you keep doing it! :D Hwaiting! (I had to write it haha)

I'd love to say thank you to kadejun for recapping what's up, I watch the episodes subbed but I always read your insights because I always miss a lot of things and I literally go "OHHHH" when you produce amazing analyzations of a certain scene or action that I would have never thought of :)

Ok so this is my first comment ever.
I live in Iran and living in my country is quite difficult, since everything and I mean it,EVERYTHING is forbidden.Basically we have no freedom...anyway,my one and only joy in life is watching k-dramas and reading your recaps makes it doubly joyful for me.So I wanna thank everyone of you for that and specially kaedejun for recapping some of my favorite dramas.
that's it !thank you again:)

To Kaedejun: Thank you for your never-failing, always insightful recaps! I still go back and reread the Prosecutor Princess ones (which had some hilarious commentary)! You and aberdeen_angus were glorious in those, and I've tried to follow your commentary even now on shows I haven't watched (i.e. What's Up, Athena, etc.) to get an idea for whether I'd be interested in it.

I love your writing, so definitely keep it up! Thanks again!

Good day Dramabeans!
I'm really enjoying how interactive and open this site is especially to guest bloggers who also want to share their insights and views on a certain K-drama or film.
Though this post may sound ostensible or superficial, just because this is a contest/promo, still I wanna use this opportunity. It's because I think this is the perfect chance (since I know you're receiving lots of mails everyday) for these guest bloggers to notice how grateful I am to their posts.

To samsooki: Oh yeah. I really like your writing style. It's straightforward and fun to read. Also, you're not using too much highfalutin English terms to describe something, which is I think, one way to show how considerate you are to non-English speakers like us. I just wanna commend you on your point regarding 200 Pounds Beauty for defending it so well. You didn't even hold back despite that a lot of people really dislike the film. I'm also happy that someone like you (wow, Adele) recapped City Hall, Chuno, My Love Patzzi and one of my all time rom-com favorite, My Name is Kim Sam Soon. Too bad, I'm not seeing any of your posts lately. Hope we'll get to check more from you. Kudos!

To only1tony: It's nice to have you in Dramabeans since you're the one who initiated the movie reviews/recaps in this site. I'm a K-drama fanatic, but because of your interesting movie notes, I'm also checking the K-films now. Hope you add more films from the list, especially the rom-com or action types. More power!

To gummimochi: High five! I really salute you for recapping and providing us plenty of variety and sitcom recaps such as Running Man and High Kick. I don't know how are you managing your time for being so active in recapping such lengthy shows. Through your recaps, you're also helping me make my day at ease after studying. Your way of narrating every detail of it makes it even more fun to read, and at the same time, comprehending the jokes/stills well. For that, you really deserve some recognition.

And to the rest of guest bloggers, thank you for making Dramabeans a site-to-follow everyday, by providing variety (with different taste and aroma) of delicious and healthy K-drama/film meals for us. Hope to see more from you in the next 10-20 years. God Bless everyone. More power!

I would like to thank Dahee Fanel for her year-end reviews! It is just sooo unique and different. Even though I don't agree with most of it, it's really fun reading them, coz y'know it's no fun if we all have the same opinions right? I remember you not liking you're beautiful, and I just went, "What?!", lol I think that was the first time I read one of your reviews, so I must've been shocked. But as I read your reviews, I find it really interesting

Who knows, maybe I'm just used to agreeing all the time (girlfriday and javabeans), which is not a bad thing, of course xD. But keep writing your honest thoughts and keep writing year-end reviews please! It's fun reading 'em :)

I have to give a big thanks to samsooki for his lovely recaps of My Name Is Kim Sam Soon. I'm sure many of us readers were desperately waiting for this, despite having seen the drama prior to the recaps, but it's always fun to see other people's take on it - it opens up so much discussion AND you get to learn new things. Also, an added thanks for introducing me to City Hall - admittedly, it's not my favourite drama, but the chemistry between CSW and KSA is just...

I would like to thank Samsooki for the wonderful MNIKSS reviews! It was the first k-drama I ever watched - and to me - the best one to date. I've always been wanting to re-watch it but never had the chance - the reviews were a great way to relive the fun.

All of you other fantastic guest bloggers are equally wonderful though ~ thank you all for taking the time and effort to write such great reviews ^ ___ ^

i would like to give my heartfelt thanks to SAMSOOKI for recapping one of the most sentimental kdrama i have seen, My Name is Kim Sam Soon... recapping it after so many years past it was aired, it brings back that nostalgic emotions you have been missing from recent dramas...

i know recapping is a very difficult task and it requires patience and dedication, so this post of gratitude goes out to other guest bloggers who extended their views and sharing it to us... you all just don't know how thankful we all are for this awesome site...

i wish i could have my own 5 year birthday giveaway for this site as well but alas, i don't have the resources for it....

so instead, please accept this POST OF HEARTFELT GRATITUDE as my little giveaway for all of you...

THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!! ( and keep up the good job)

Long overdue but here I go...

Grazie-grazie-mille.... *still echoing* I had so much fun reading Pasta with skimmy and Andromytta (still on hiatus it seems) when JB handed over the sauce pan to Team Italy vs. Team Korea. It was fun while it lasted "Chep."

Where's the wise ol' samsooki? Ah~ trip back down memory lane when he decided to recap My Name Is Kim Sam Soon. It took a while to get there but I'm glad he did it. Who can get tire of MNIKSS? How many of us followed him and done a marathon? C'mon~ let's show some hands. I think I lost some calories w/ Sophie when she was broken hearted. 謝謝!

I can't deny this importance, Sungkyunkwan Scandal was epic during its time and I have red pill and cassie.opeia along with The Mighty GF to illuminate the darken maze to a Sungkyunkwan Scholar's life. To borrow Harry Potter's spell, "lumos maxima" it be! Gratias~

All right, I'm almost done... I promise. We have great shows and then not so great ones been threatened to shutdown. These ones stand out the most for me, I have to howl to kaedejun for keeping Romance Town flapping its fins out of the fish bowl fighting to stay alive. I, for one, appreciate that a lot. And I'll dare say it, javabeans and girlfriday weren't thrilled to start recapping Playful Kiss. However, they surprised me sticking through it to the finale, even though Bi's physique then tiny eyes are very attractive in Runaway Plan B and a S-line model gumiho was wafting chicken drumsticks up their noses no thanks to the Hong Sisters but those distractions weren't kryptonite to these Super Duo. Goodness gracious! Where's the time? Kamsahamnida~

I really don't mind having an iPod nano. ^ __ ^ v

First, thanks a lot to all the recappers in Dramabeans. Led by Javabeans and Girlfriday, you have done so much to make us kdrama addicts, particularly non-Koreans, understand many aspects of the shows. Our enjoyment of the dramas are enhanced by the quality of the recaps here, such that I await them as eagerly as I wait for the English-subbed episodes.

Many kdrama addicts have acknowledged how daebak JB’s and GF’s recaps are. Facility in language and style, high level of social commentary and discourse, much insight into Korean culture, and humor – all these and more make DB recaps the ones to beat, the standard to follow.

The guest recappers have likewise done an awesome job in adhering to the standards set by JB and GF. And more of them means more recaps, yay! yay!
* does a dance of joy *

My most recently loved recaps by a guest writer were those for Tree with Deep Roots. Thumbs up for HeadsNo2 for the recaps that made possible such challenging and stimulating discussion/debate in the TWDR blogs. A high five, too to Santa and Thundie for their ROFL tongue-in-cheek recaps.

And most of all many cheers for my favorite guest recapper, no other than THE Samsooki! His City Hall recaps sucked me into the world of Dramabeans and kdramas. And Samsooki, thanks for recapping MNIKSS, although they came much later than the watching. But then, they made the rewatching doubly satisfying.

Kamsa hamnida, DB recappers! Hugs to all of you!

Well I'd like to thank Samsooki for recapping MNIKSS. It was actually one of my first Kdramas and I just randomly started watching it, and I loved it even though I didn't really understand the plot and all. Samsooki let me understand all that was happening and also it was fantastic reliving the drama again!
ALSO I wanna thank kaedejun for doing You've Fallen For Me. It was.. a drama that could've been good but OH WELL. :D
And last but not least, Red Pill and Cassie.opeia for doing Sungkyunkwan Scandal! It was AN AWESOME DRAMA but the recaps really made it for me because they were just... I don't know, so enjoyable hahaha.
So thank you EVERYONE for making dramabeans one of my favorite sites ever!! Boy am I glad that my friend introduced me to it ^^
