Dramabeans 5-Year Anniversary Giveaway #4

javabeans: So here we are with the last giveaway in our five-year anniversary extravaganza! Phew, I’m tired. All this organizing is exhausting. Next year Dramabeans is just gonna have to deal with a store cake and a third-rate magician.

girlfriday: Just no clowns. That’s no way to spend a birthday.

javabeans: Now I know how Santa feels. Well, maybe without the drunk crazy.

girlfriday: Maybe this is why he drinks.

javabeans: Who knew it was work giving stuff away?

girlfriday: Well I’m inherently selfish, so not me. But it WAS really cool to read everyone’s thank you’s to our hard-working contributors and guesties. Thanks for giving them so much love!

javabeans: Yes. It makes us feel better for loading them down with recaps. What, this recap factory doesn’t run on unicorn dust and fangirl dreams, you know.

girlfriday: No, it runs on the blood sweat and tears of the few willing to be paid in Dramabeans Dollars, aka Abs Photos of the Day.

javabeans: Anyway, this is our last giveaway to celebrate our fifth birthday, which means this is your last chance to enter to win a birthday giveaway prize!

girlfriday: For the last big hurrah, we’re giving away a Samsung Galaxy Tablet, so you can watch dramas, listen to kpop, and read Dramabeans wherever you go! If you end up in rehab because of it, we will disavow all knowledge of enabling your habit.

javabeans: Enter at your own peril.

And now, for our winners. Congratulations to…

  • Jules (aka snoozit), winner of a one-year premium subscription to Dramafever,
  • Missyu_who, winner of the other premium subscription to Dramafever,
  • and Carinne, winner of the iPod nano (with javabeans playlist).

Giveaway #4

Question: What do you want to see on Dramabeans in 2012? This is your chance to tell us that one thing you’ve always wanted to see on DB or what you want to see more of this year. Maybe that’s more of the same, or maybe you’ve got a wild ‘n crazy out-there idea. We are not averse to crazy. (As always, please use a valid email in the comment form. No need to tell us where you live this time.)

Prize: A 7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tablet 7.0 Plus.

Winner announced: Sunday, January 29, at 8pm, Pacific Standard Time*

*Or, 10pm in Mexico City, 11pm in NYC, 1am in Buenos Aires, 4am in London, 5am in Paris, noon in Singapore and Manila, 1pm in Seoul and Tokyo, or 3pm in Sydney and Vladivostok. Okay, you get the point. (You can refer to this handy Time and Date converter to find out what this is in your time zone.)

I love this suggestion. Yes, more movie reviews please. And I would love more guest bloggers (gotta print more of those Dramabeans Dollars ^-^) to do first impressions, year-end reviews, etc.

Diverse opinions and intriguing perspectives makes it fun to visit and helps DB from becoming complacent as it grows larger. Wishing this site continued wit, wackiness, and K-ent warrioresses.

Honestly, for me, there's nothing missing from this site. Every time I go on, there's at least one interesting thing for me to read, be it a recap or just a snippet of news. Everything I read on this site is written wonderfully, dramas are recapped so quickly, and there's nothing I would change. DRAMABEANS FTW. :D

Please go back and recap some of the oldies, but the goodies (i.e. The Princess's Man, Delightful Girl Choon Hyang, etc.). I know you guys have a very limited amount of time because the world doesn't stop for dramas (sigh), but this would be wonderful. Perhaps you could even get volunteer recappers to do it!
Thank you, as always.

My sister and I always eagerly await your recaps for every drama we watch - sometimes on a regular weekly basis and sometimes bolus-ed in one manic weekend of 'must watch this entire 16 episode drama in one go'.

As to what I would like to see in 2012... I always like hearing your movie suggestions/previews and I think maybe more movie recaps would be great!

Thanks again!!

Holy guacamole! You're lucky you're stopping where you are, or you'd be giving away a mortgage payoff if you kept this up!

Hello, Javabeans and Girlfriday. I would like to see/read Dramabeans interviews with Korean drama stars if and when they're Stateside. You certainly have enough cache to make it happen.

Required fields are marked *

haha, i was about to request the picture of Javabeans & Girlfriday, too! glad i'm not the only voyeuristic one ;p.

on a more likely note, it'd be cool to see some more profiles/interviews of kdrama actors/actresses, and directors and writers. i've noticed that you don't translate as much of these any more like you used to, and i really liked the ones that you shared in the past (especially the multi-part drinking interviews). it's also cool when you check in on actors/actresses who were beloved in the past but aren't as active now, and explore the reasons why that might be.

and lastly, i know that you all are busy (and seem even busier lately! hmm... personally busy?), but it'd be really cool to see javabeans' take on more dramas, especially the really good ones like What's Up. I really miss reading your opinions on them, especially since I don't watch as many dramas as I used to, and it makes it that much more special when I do watch something to hear what you think.

I'd guess movie recaps and maybe links or whatnot about older dramas. I guess I'm kind of hoping for more of historical context and how it affected modern today dramas, or more discussions about older dramas, such as what was Jealous about? Or maybe day-to-day lives of Koreans beyond the dramas.

Older dramas, Yes. But....

Infinity Challenge! Pretty pretty please, cherries on top! Whenever I see your recap posts on 1 Night 2 Days and/or Running man, I let out another sigh--it's a sigh as in "No Infinity Challenge again? Sigh." Right there, that sigh.

Infinity Challenge is all time favorite variety show for Korean fans in Korea. And when I say Korean fans, I mean everyone, whether it be youngster, children, youth, young adult, ajumma, ajussi, grandmas, grandpas, you name it. People fall head over heels over it. These amazing 6 guys have been standing steadfast next to every Korean sometimes like an amicable neighbor, a hilarious boyfriend, a warm family, or a trustworthy friend. They never fail to draw a huge smile on your face (or my face, to be concise) and most of the time this smile transforms to an uncontrollable laughter which prompts me to roll on the floor. By posting IC recaps here, not only will the readers be provided with a sheer pleasure that equates to a cold beer at the end of the day, they can take a peek inside Korean culture and stay tuned with the most updated hottest issue of Korea since it's the program producer's forte to tastefully touch upon such matters in each episode (no wonder higher-ups don't fancy them much). Also you hit jackpots occasionally; chocolate sweet eye candies who are always enjoyably indulged by viewers, or just humans in general, have made guest appearance in the show--Jo In Sung, So Ji Sub, Kwon Sang Woo, to name a few.

So please consider Infinity Challenge when you deliberate on what variety show to recap next. If IC doesn't pop up in your head, please reconsider. Haha. :)

Happy 5 year anniversary and we love you oh so very very much. Muah.

This is going to sound really cheesy but there really isn't anything I would like for you guys to add. Between the recaps, podcasts, drama news, drama ratings and such, you pretty much have everything covered. I think it's awesone you guys have expanded as much as you have already!

Happy 5-Year anniversary! :)

So far I love everything.

But maybe more movie reviews. A lot of Korean films are hard to find with subtitles and I love your intake on Korean dramas, so I would like your input on that too.

BUT this may sound weird what about like once a month, you can feature a korean food? And talk about it and what it is made of. I would love to have Korean food but I never know where to start or what to eat.

Just a weird suggestion (hehe), it totally doesn't even have to do with dramas, actors, or even movies.

But other than that, please keep up what you are doing. It is really appreciated :)

YAY. Congratulations to all :)

Hmmm. I think more weecaps for dramas unlucky enough to be not recapped would be all around fun and not too crazy. I know the DB crew is strapped for time enough as it is. ;)

Also, movie recaps would be nice but not a must. LOL.

Thanks as always, DB Crew!

Can you just get even more famous and then ask the actors of the recapped dramas to guest recap for you now and then? :D That might be interesting , although I'd miss the snark.

But realistically... I'm with Eunice: More movie recaps, please. I'm always excited to see your movie previews, so recaps for those would be very appreciated.

Piggybacking on Lazy Goose's comment, I would also like more music posts but perhaps some Korean traditional music (or a fusion of modern and traditional instruments) or music that is not deemed popular e.g. trot. Thanks for all you do :)

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

Trot is not popular? I always thought it was popular.... at least in Korea..... Or maybe it's just me and my odd taste in music. Can't be helped since trot reminds me so much of Enka, a Japanese music genre I enjoy listening to on occasion.

0
3
reply

Required fields are marked *

Well, I don't think trot is very popular to the international community. I guess it reminds a lot of American country music. It has its strong backing, but not really known internationally. I think it's a shame too because like you I like Enka and trot...and American country music haha. You don't get many asian girls admitting they listen to country music where I come from.

And replying to avonmarissa, I think it would be great for JB to feature trot maybe in like the OT or a post or two, but I think the main focus of Dramabeans is korean drama news. But certainly when the drama or news is appropriate, then it's definitely much appreciated! You can probably find more trot and other traditional music news in allkpop (hopefully!).

I'm an asian girl and i like enka, trot, and country! (woooo USA!)

i also hope to see more trot on javabeans. :)

0

Required fields are marked *

Oh, what I meant was that most people outside of Korea do not know about other Korean music outside of K-pop; that is why trot is not viewed as popular. I love trot which is very weird to my Asian friends since I am black, haha.

Although, I love the site as it is.
But I would love to see more movie recaps. I love watching K-Movies so I would love to see DB's opinions on movies which ones are good which ones should pass.

Also I think it would be cool if you guys would talk about actors/actresses and what you think about their acting through various projects and if they improved or not. First impressions etc. Career History. Sort of like an Review. Of course filled with your opinions and witty comments.

I will continue to love and read DB's its my top site for Drama addiction! :)

I agree with Devon.
Movie recaps and mid/end drama recaps.

I know there is not time to recap everything, so I love what girlfriday is doing with Ojakkyo Brothers. I usually try to avoid the super long ones, but this made me start it. If we could have that done with some older ones too (ex: Biscuit Teacher, just started it!) I would be forever grateful.

Also (sorry to add another to the list) I love the glossary, it really helps explain stuff. My friend and I actually started trying to learn some Korean during the past year and your explanations were better than any of the other ones I had seen.

Good luck in the new year! Thank you for bringing joy to all of our sad, mundane lives!

I would like to see just simple first impression then you can decide whether to do recaps. i feel kinda sad for you if you got to stuck with bad dramas or one you don't like. My drama preferences a lot like you two so if you don't like the show, sometimes i'm not even going to read the recaps. To think that you put so much hard work for something you don't like is great but i don't think you need to do that anymore. the reader could understand if you decide not to recap some drama.

more reality shows please.. play the reality roulette and include the guest bloggers.

and, oh.. old skool drama / reality show / movie recaps, the one that have significant memory for you.

you guys already bring so much to the world, and i think you guys should bring MOAR XD mostly becuase this is one of my fave sites. EVER.

i would especially love recaps for some more sitcoms and variety shows if possible (Vampire Idol, mostly because I can never seem to find it with english subs, unless i'm not really looking hard enough -_-), and more movie reviews, because who wouldn't want to bring the awesomeness of drama recapping over to the movies?? only1tony has good ones, but the need for MOREMOREMORE is overwhelming, especially since other reviews i have read do not bring me over to the dark side
as much as anything posted on dramabeans does [and that is a compliment ^^] XD

There's nothing that someone else hasn't already mentioned. With your limited time, movie recaps are probably not practical.

My favorites on your site are the Korean cultural entries - honorifics, formal / informal speaking, etc. etc. I'd like to be able to ask questions for future answers (for instance, we were discussing in Open Thread the whole sleeve-touching thing when pouring soju).

You guys are excellent in all you do!

I really enjoy your recaps and I think the site is wonderful the way it is. But if I was forced to choose something else to add to the site (only if you had time of course) maybe it would be to add an animated gif now and then if the scene is funny and brief enough. Like from sungkyunkwan scandal, the animated gif would be micky and yoo ah in shoving each other on the bed. Or in Dream High it would be taecyeon trying to get back his underwear from soohyun. :P
