Dramabeans 5-Year Anniversary Giveaway #4
by | January 22, 2012 | 1,543 Comments

javabeans: So here we are with the last giveaway in our five-year anniversary extravaganza! Phew, I’m tired. All this organizing is exhausting. Next year Dramabeans is just gonna have to deal with a store cake and a third-rate magician.

girlfriday: Just no clowns. That’s no way to spend a birthday.

javabeans: Now I know how Santa feels. Well, maybe without the drunk crazy.

girlfriday: Maybe this is why he drinks.

javabeans: Who knew it was work giving stuff away?

girlfriday: Well I’m inherently selfish, so not me. But it WAS really cool to read everyone’s thank you’s to our hard-working contributors and guesties. Thanks for giving them so much love!

javabeans: Yes. It makes us feel better for loading them down with recaps. What, this recap factory doesn’t run on unicorn dust and fangirl dreams, you know.

girlfriday: No, it runs on the blood sweat and tears of the few willing to be paid in Dramabeans Dollars, aka Abs Photos of the Day.

javabeans: Anyway, this is our last giveaway to celebrate our fifth birthday, which means this is your last chance to enter to win a birthday giveaway prize!

girlfriday: For the last big hurrah, we’re giving away a Samsung Galaxy Tablet, so you can watch dramas, listen to kpop, and read Dramabeans wherever you go! If you end up in rehab because of it, we will disavow all knowledge of enabling your habit.

javabeans: Enter at your own peril.

And now, for our winners. Congratulations to…

  • Jules (aka snoozit), winner of a one-year premium subscription to Dramafever,
  • Missyu_who, winner of the other premium subscription to Dramafever,
  • and Carinne, winner of the iPod nano (with javabeans playlist).

i remember you guys used to do music posts ‘n’ things(: maybe more of those?
and i LOVE the idea of korean food posts. YESS. PLEASE.
photoshoot posts are always gorgeous and tasteful, so moarr~

pahhah i feel so needy and entitled, asking you guys for even more than you already contribute. you guys are the bestest.

and happy chinese new year everyone!!

  2. 52 Ella

I would love to see you write a mini-drama script, with your wonderful sense of humor, it would be fantastic. And you would know the best people to cast too!

thank you for sharing your love of kdramas with so many of us
    !

  3. 53 Yushi

I would like to see maybe a live video podcast, or a live chat where we can ask questions!
I love what you girls are doing and just continuing this would be great!

  4. 54 estar

    Dramabeans flash mob!

movie reviews would be good, even if it’s just an announcement of what’s current in Korea, since this is kind of hard to do without knowing Korean. keep up the amazing work.

  5. 55 Lina

To be honest, there isn’t anything really missing on this site. You’ve pretty much covered everything. I do really like your movie reviews. Lately, I’ve also been enjoying your first impressions on many dramas. If I really did have to choose though, I would love to see more recaps on older dramas.

Thanks for everything, dramabeans! Congrats on 5 years!!

  6. 56 Aye

I’d like more glossary and pop culture posts. They are so interesting to read and help me better understand the things that people do and say in dramas.
Also, I wish to see recaps/reviews of dramas that propelled the Hallyu craze like Full House, Winter Sonata, Dae Jan Geum, etc.

Thank you for all your hard work all these years! You guys are brilliant/amazing/witty/talented. Keep up the great work!

  7. 57 yearofthedragon

I would definitely love to see more recaps. I also hope you can do movie recommendations as well as movie reviews/recaps. And maybe you can teach us korean ;) HAPPY LUNAR NEW YEAR!!

  8. 58 winna

I think having a forum will be cool, you know, to have a place to discuss dramas and stars and other stuffs. Since the comment section under the posts overlap with each other and get pushed down sometimes (when there are new comments being added), I think it’s easier and more fun if have separate threads to do so. Drama spoilers, comments about specific episodes, questions..

And since not many of us could get the latest scoop on K-pop, maybe posting a song-of-the week video clip choice might be cool (the way you do open thread with a song every week). That way we get a bit of K-pop thrown into the mix.

    Just an idea.

  9. 59 hpn88

    Hmmmm..
Movie recaps were started this year, so I’d definitely LOVE to see them continue with JB/GF/Both comments on them too.

I’d love for you to continue those cultural bits you guys did with the connotations of Oppa or what is a Gumiho.

I love hearing you guys discuss stuff, so even if you guys aren’t re-capping, I’d love a half-time reports or quick blurbs on your opinions in written or podcast form.

Also one of my favorite DB post was where you equated dramas to first dates! I’D LOVE LOVE LOVE more creative pieces like that!!

….not to be demanding or anything (haha)

  10. 60 Melissa :D

Happy Lunar New Year!! In Dramabeans 2012, I’d like to see some more drama trailer updates and kpop/other music reviews. I’d also like to see movie reviews! Can you make a top 10 movies of all time or something.

  11. 61 piggy

Personally, I think dramabeans is already great as a whole!

As some people said, movie reviews would be nice!

I was thinking of maybe something like a “Movie/Drama/Sitcom/etc. of the Month” thing :) Telling us what your favorites of the month are~ I think if there is one, I’d take more incentive to watch some of the recommended dramas!

Thanks for all your hard work! :)

  12. 62 magz

I understand you guys have a big load with recapping current dramas pretty much at all times but if there was anything I’d love on DB in 2012, it’d be to recap a few oldies like Delightful Girl and My Girl (yes I’m quite obsessed with the Hong Sisters, completely coincidental why this site is one of my most visited site apart from my emails, uni stuff & running man related sites) Everything else is just amazing and I’m so happy to have stumbled on this site when you were doing the recaps for Daljas Spring.

  13. 63 stars4u

I was so happy when I first read the movie review by only1tony and I hope to read more movie reviews!!!

    And also more podcasts!

  14. 64 Jojo

More drama recaps! Dramabeans’ recaps are the best! Movie recap would be great too.

  15. 65 TheJu

I just love exactly what you guys do! I would feel selfish to ask for more! You guys always recap such a nice variety and are very fast!

  16. 66 Karla

thanks for all the recaps and suggestions… dramabeans pretty much has everythin but it will be nice more movies suggestions and recaps for the oldies.. i loved the recaps of my name is kim sam soon … thank you for your hard work

  17. 67 Ley

I wish dramabeans could feature more movie recaps! :)

  18. 68 Annie

What do I want to see? Well, I love it when two of you guys tag team a summary of a drama. You guys have such interesting comments and dialogue it makes me want to read more. Plus, two commentaries on one episode/one drama (sort of like a summary) would be interesting rather than just one point of view.

  19. 69 patty

Ditto to all! I’ve been a visitor of this site for a long time and came initially for the k-drams write ups but stayed for all the insightful articles and low brow giggles.

Besides the aforementioned movie write ups, I’d love to see more articles on featured k indie bands. I loved the one Javabeans wrote on Lucid Fall–the lyric translation/explaination of “Les Miserables” was fantastic.

Also, on a selfish note, more random mag photos of Kim “choco-abs” Soo Hyun wouldn’t hurt either.

  20. 70 My2Girls

    Hello Ladies,

I agree with all of the above suggestions. I especially like the idea of going back and recapping some oldies but goodies. But more importantly I hope that in 2012 you both continue to love what you do and find joy out of this blog. I would hate for you to find DB a drudgery. So whatever comes this year I hope you have fun doing it.

    Amy

  21. 71 rianna

movie recaps and movie ratings! hehehe.. whenever i don’t want to watch 16+ eps i really really wanna watch a movie cause the time i spend in watching would be less and it would be nice if you have recapped it or rated it~

and some other dramas? like, not only korean drama? hehe……

  22. 72 gusya

I’ve loved whatever you guys posted since the day I discovered your website. You have lightning fast recaps and some hilarious entertainment news, and great podcasts. I love that theres a chance for everybody to rant about anything every Friday. I really appreciate all the guests who appear on your site and of course both of you ladies. As already mentioned, some movie recaps would be great, you did have someone do it but then it just died down, hopefully the idea will be revived again.
Otherwise, your site is perfect and I visit it everyday nonstop just to see some Korean goodies. ^__^
Thank you so much for what you both have done and happy anniversary again!!! >__<

  23. 73 hope

What I would like to see in DB, would be more of the articles you would write about Korean words and how they are used socially. I would like also some facts on culture. I am not Korean so I loved when you and girlfriday would explain things to us non-Koreans because it helps me fully understand some dramas when I understand the customs.
p.s. I really love this website and you guys for working hard on feeding a lot of peoples addictions to k-dramas.

  24. 74 obsidian

Thank you so much for this site!!! Thank you for all your hard work!!!

I would love to see more translated articles. Like the one you just wrote about the young actors from the Moon that Embraces the Sun. I always find those articles to be really interesting to read.

  25. 75 eret

well i think dramabeans is perfec just the way it is but i would love more movie reviews cause im so curius and it takes a long time for movies to be avalible with subs and maybe if u guys more about the korean culture other that we see in dramas!!!!!

  26. 76 li~~~

i honestly can’t think of anything. anything you dish out is great, and i feel like if i ask for anything more, your space-time continuum will spontaneously combust.

i love you just the way you are. <3

congratulations to the winners and to this wonderful blog for a spectacular five years.

  27. 77 Christina Ly

Hehe! You guys are awesome already, but yea! Movie reviews! Music suggestions! More Variety Show recaps! for 2012! :)

  28. 78 annie

i like how u guys rated the dramas u watch. how about rating movies too? i’m always up for a good movie suggestion. & variety show roulette was a pretty good idea :)

  29. 79 SillyRnti

I’d like more of the same. I love the banter between Javabeans and Girlfriday so more posts in the manner of the 1N2D recaps with the back and forth pretty please. Oh, and I second July’s comment about making DramaBeans a lil more mobile phone friendly. Other than that, keep this site as wonderful as it is!

  30. 80 Mymymai

For 2012, I hope to see and read as many great review of dramas as the year before. I’m especially excited about Prosecuter Vampire 2! I would like to see a section for actors’ profile so we newbies can see what other works an actor has been in. Wikipedia may already do that but I was hoping you can include your opinion of that actor’s performance in different dramas.

  31. 81 MStuff

    hello hello,

I’ve been stalking this website for far too long. What would I like to see?

Hmmm.. I’d like to have a good way to get older drama and movie recaps in. It may sound a little silly, but I’m a bit intimidated by the idea of actually posting recaps of old shows. Yet, I’ve watched a bunch of them that haven’t been recapped, and thought, what if I could do that? I hope I’m not the only one.

But I worry because I’m not Korean (I’ve just started taking a class to learn the language), and I tend to feel like I would fall far short of recappers who can actually understand the puns and alternate meanings behind the dialogue in dramas.

Anyway, a guide to recapping, or an easy way to submit recaps of older shows, even individual episodes of older shows (keep off the pressure of recapping the whole thing) would be great. We could add so much more to the recap area of your website! Even if they are shorter, and maybe without all of the insight you provide.

    Cheers! M

  32. 82 jen

Return of the song of the day!
Or at least a link to your playlist…I’m positive there used to be one :(

  33. 83 Bee

I was ecstatic that you guys started giving your take on k-variety. running man and especially 1N2D were my top faves.

but maybe you guys could infinity challenge? i love that show to death & it is ridiculously over the top. I would be great to see what you guys think of the episodes. you guys are just so entertaining together so it’s great to see how you two dialogue-ing, i feel like i’m in the room with you ladies… instead of in my room watching by myself. haha.

    • 83.1 Bee

wow so many errors. welp, my excuse is… my mind is tired? :) keep up the great work.

  34. 84 Kas

Seeing more movie reviews would be cool, but on the whole I think this website is fantastic. And no one’s gotten round to inventing that time machine yet. Lazy gits ;)

  35. 85 Margo

I’m a huge fan of Koeran movies as I am a fan of dramas. So it’d be really cool to have movie recaps as well or maybe a review will do. :D D I think you guys have reviewed some movies before. Well, that’s about it I guess.

You guys already rock so just keep on doing what you do well.

Thanks Dramabeans for always giving me a dose of happiness everyday. No matter how sucky my day went, a visit from this site will always put a smile on my face. :D

  36. 86 Maddy

First, thanks for all your hard work!

Second… I’d love to read more of your perspectives on Korean life and culture… I think I would appreciate k-dramas even more if I understood some of the nuances between the different relationships and familial expectations. I’d also love to read more movie reviews and recaps!

  37. 87 meah

movie reviews and up-coming movie/dramas info.
i would also like to see videos review with the lovely bloggers but thats asking too much.
maybe do some behind the drama/movie fun facts. i think polls for us to vote if you do review older dramas/movie. can you teach us korean too???

my favorite part of the reviews are the songs you put on there every now and then, i would love album or ost review also.

happy 5 year anniversary and best wishes for dramabean.

  38. 88 Anjo

    Hello!

I think it would be great if you guys did some movie reviews. I have seen some around, but it would be awesome to see them more often. I know that there are lots of discussion going on in the comment section, but maybe you can set up a discussion section for us readers to properly discuss the the episode ^^ it gets a little crazy sometimes when we’re really passionate about an episode and it makes it hard to keep track of.

    -Anjo

  39. 89 purty.sunshine

I think it would be awesome to be able to watch a drama with commentary by the lovely staff! I don’t know how you would do it, or if it is even possible…but an old or new drama, with episode-to-episode commentary that we could listen to while we watch. It would be like watching the drama with you guys (or there is a plan! Skype-watching an episode of a drama with dramabeans and girlfriday?? -fangirl!dies-)

Anyway, what you already do is amazing so I won’t ask for more!!! Thank you for all your hard work and here’s to another wonderful year!!

  40. 90 MissMantin

The only thing I want from the Dramabeans team is a promise to keep this site going FOREVER. Because I just don’t know where I’d spend all my time if Dramabeans ever shut down. How would I get my javabeans/girlfriday fix? You guys are as addictive as a cracktastic drama. Happy 5th anniversary! I’ll be here for the 50th!

    • 90.1 Mystisith

I want that too : The Forever Promise. To be precise, i want a signed contract between Dramabeans bosses and us followers. With big penalties for you in case of disappearance ( asking my lawyer for further clauses… ). I myself promise to never leave your side, til death do us apart. Call it family, friendship, addiction companions, or whatever. This site is UNIQUE and so meaningful. I wish
( selfishly and shamelessly ) it can go on forever.

  41. 91 60silverdollars

I would love to see movie reviews and more music related posts. After all, what would a drama be without the music?

Also I wouldn’t mind more posts about Korean culture and current (or past) events. The more I know about Korea, the easier it is to understand the dramas!

  42. 92 gabs

5th year reading your drama reviews and going!
Thanks for the past 5 years and I’m sure I’ll thank you for more in the following years.

I would love to see more movie recaps like everyone else but I would, above all, love to read more opinion posts on various topics in the Korean Entertainment Industry, as you used to do more of in the past.

I read up on those topics through Korean Newspapers and websites but I like how you always make a compelling or insightful point that makes me rethink my extremely opinionated views. LOLL

  43. 93 Jihye

I think recent or old movie weecaps could be cool! Or like radio podcast weecaps! Now a days there are a lot of celebrities radio podcasting and if you recap them this site could be a millionaire! Lol just kidding, I love radio podcast esp. with beast. I mean, this site is perfect the way it is personally. I still love this site and always willllll! Also, having a forum could be cool in my opinion do we all can discuss and fangirl/fanguy. Lol oh like oh like actually I’ll stop here ;)

  44. 94 Rea Seludo

I want to see more drama reviews, movie reviews and variety show reviews “)

  45. 95 Skylar

Congrats Winners! I’m not going to lie, I’m a bit Jelly. ;) <3

What I'd like to see for 2012… more funny recaps! These recaps really make me want to watch the new dramas. Also it'd be cool if you guys did more Movie reviews and stuff too! <3

Maybe… just maybe, reviewing a few Taiwanese shows? Some of them are good, it's just hard to find them. :( I need to find a similar blogging website for them. <3 <3 I love you guys Dramabeans. ^^'
I really enjoy the posts about the actors//idols too. Their personal lives and all that.. maybe some more news about what's going on over in Korea. It's hard for me to find any updates about my actors and shows. XD

Keep it up guys! And thanks for the giveaways! <3

    • 95.1 stratosphere

Have you visited Koalasplayground.com? ockoala recaps/reviews some Taiwanese dramas and C-dramas.

      • 95.1.1 Skylar

I haven’t even heard of it before! Thanks for sharing, I appreciate it! <3

  46. 96 socalgal

I love what you do on this site. It would be great to see some more reviews or introductions of variety shows, especially with all the new cable shows.

  47. 97 hanabi

You guys are doing a great job as is!

One thing I’d like to see more of would be posts about Korean culture. Stuff like the “oppa” posts you did a while back that would help non-Koreans better understand some of the things in dramas/movies, etc.

  48. 98 Yuvee

You guy are doing such great job here that just more of the same awesome stuff would be great! But how about Naked Abs Monday, that might make Mondays somewhat bearable.

  49. 99 Zoee

Hey ladies!! I would really like if yall could add a segment examining and criticizing up and coming actors/actresses…

  50. 100 LindeB

l would like very much to see you write about korean movies to be shown in the US and what state it will be shown. if you can please. l live close to NYC. there were a couple of movies that were shown in NY but when l found out about them, they weren’t showing anymore.

    and movie recaps too.

    thank you.

    • 100.1 alua

Have you inquired about this at your local Korean Cultural Centre? Supposedly there is one in NY.

      http://www.korea.net/redirect.do?redirectJsp=/overseas_officers

My own local KCC in London is great about letting people know what Korean films (or other events) are going on in London and the rest of the UK – both via FB and Twitter. I bet there are NYC based bloggers too that keep close track of events – you might even ask the Korean Cultural Centre if they have any recommendations for bloggers or people on Twitter to follow.

      • 100.1.1 alua

And if you don’t do FB or Twitter, they may have a newsletter as well.
