Dramabeans 5-Year Anniversary Giveaway #4

javabeans: So here we are with the last giveaway in our five-year anniversary extravaganza! Phew, I’m tired. All this organizing is exhausting. Next year Dramabeans is just gonna have to deal with a store cake and a third-rate magician.

girlfriday: Just no clowns. That’s no way to spend a birthday.

javabeans: Now I know how Santa feels. Well, maybe without the drunk crazy.

girlfriday: Maybe this is why he drinks.

javabeans: Who knew it was work giving stuff away?

girlfriday: Well I’m inherently selfish, so not me. But it WAS really cool to read everyone’s thank you’s to our hard-working contributors and guesties. Thanks for giving them so much love!

javabeans: Yes. It makes us feel better for loading them down with recaps. What, this recap factory doesn’t run on unicorn dust and fangirl dreams, you know.

girlfriday: No, it runs on the blood sweat and tears of the few willing to be paid in Dramabeans Dollars, aka Abs Photos of the Day.

javabeans: Anyway, this is our last giveaway to celebrate our fifth birthday, which means this is your last chance to enter to win a birthday giveaway prize!

girlfriday: For the last big hurrah, we’re giving away a Samsung Galaxy Tablet, so you can watch dramas, listen to kpop, and read Dramabeans wherever you go! If you end up in rehab because of it, we will disavow all knowledge of enabling your habit.

javabeans: Enter at your own peril.

And now, for our winners. Congratulations to…

  • Jules (aka snoozit), winner of a one-year premium subscription to Dramafever,
  • Missyu_who, winner of the other premium subscription to Dramafever,
  • and Carinne, winner of the iPod nano (with javabeans playlist).

Giveaway #4

Question: What do you want to see on Dramabeans in 2012? This is your chance to tell us that one thing you’ve always wanted to see on DB or what you want to see more of this year. Maybe that’s more of the same, or maybe you’ve got a wild ‘n crazy out-there idea. We are not averse to crazy. (As always, please use a valid email in the comment form. No need to tell us where you live this time.)

Prize: A 7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tablet 7.0 Plus.

Winner announced: Sunday, January 29, at 8pm, Pacific Standard Time*

*Or, 10pm in Mexico City, 11pm in NYC, 1am in Buenos Aires, 4am in London, 5am in Paris, noon in Singapore and Manila, 1pm in Seoul and Tokyo, or 3pm in Sydney and Vladivostok. Okay, you get the point. (You can refer to this handy Time and Date converter to find out what this is in your time zone.)

I like how this year you guys reviewed variety shows even though they were super long..like more than 20 episodes. Thanks for recapping 1n2d; i always look forward to it. I hope you guys do more recapping of other variety shows like SNLK. you guys only did the first episode.

Congratulations for your 5th Anniversary.I get my DAILY dose of Dramabeans.Wouldn't miss it.
It's really informative and I love the speedy recaps.
I wished that it would continue to do some bio profiles on the up and coming young actors like the one which you did for The Moon Embraces the Sun. Also some bio profiles on some HOT actors would be nice...Lee Min ho..Jung Il woo..Joo Won
When I first started watching Kdramas, I was totally confused about who were the different actors and actresses and what dramas they had previously worked on.
I would like to see some Korean movie preview teasers, not just the posters or still photos. Some of the number 1 box office movies recapped would be nice also since we might not get them here in the states.Just wishful thinking......

How about some more interviews and definitely definitely more recaps. I like to watch drama if I have time, but I find that reading your recaps on train rides are also very satisfying. Your writing (both of you) are so good that I feel like I haven't even missed a joke.

I like how you 'deconstruct' drama - reminds me first year law school and the deconstruction of ... oh... way too many concepts, but this is much much more pleasant.

Keep up the good news in 2012.

i always check dramabeans, morning and before bedtime. i check it more than facebook and i enjoy reading the recaps or any news. what i would love to see in dramabeans is like to have a "Korean word/s of today" taken from the currently showing dramas. Most of the readers are not Koreans and we want to learn Korean words little by little besides on what we can remember from watching the subbed shows. I do recall some words but it would be nice I could read it in dramabeans since I'm reading it everyday.

I don't want you girls at Dramabeans over-exerting yourselves to grant our demands, but since you asked..

-More giveaways! Just kidding =)

-Movie recaps. Judging from others' responses this seems to be in high demand. Your witty comments are always welcomed.

-Weekly/monthly podcasts? Pretty please with soju!

-More songs to go with posts. I think in the past there were more songs to go with recap posts, like one per post, but it feels like the songs have gone down in number. In general, I just really like your taste in music so it would be nice to have that.

-If not the above, can we have more javabeans playlist?

-News bites. I liked these posts in the past because they were like the hottest entertainment buzz in a few short sentences and it wasn't strictly drama news.

-Translation of news articles related to kpop/kdramas? I remember how there were a few in the past like "Where have all the uljjangs gone?" and those were interesting reads.

-Fashion reports. Kind of like Go Fug Yourself, but featuring Korean celebrities. Release your inner snark!

-A-dol =)

Thank you for Dramabeans. you guys do a lot of work already. if you are up to it, maybe more movie stuff. it is hard to figure out which korean movie is good since I am not korean, so maybe a shout out here and there to good movies will be awesome, probably a recap will be too much because of the lenght of movies.

Aside from JB and GF's photos, I would love to see more Kculture 101 entries and Korean indie or K Classic movie reviews. Also, entries/commentaries on the intertextuality of other things by Kdramas or vice versa.

You girls are brilliant!

The thing I've always wanted to see most on DB are recaps of really good older dramas. It would be nice to see recaps of older dramas! And, I like everything that DB already have, so there's really not much I would want to see. Happy ANNIVERSARY!

Thanks for all the hard work you guys put into DRAMABEANS!!!

Everything's AMAZING! Of course the biggest issue is time cuz this website must be HUGE time-suckers for you guys, though they are FUN, recreational time-suckers of course!

Since we can't clone you guys, I really don't want quality to suffer over quantity so I'm fine with the way things are!

Happy birthday, Dramabeans :)
I'd like to see more coverage on variety shows (one of my all-time favorite recaps to read is 1N2D). I thought you were going to do a "variety roulette" exploring different variety shows, and I think that'd be a fun idea. Especially since Korean variety shows let you see another/intimate side of your favorite celebs. And I'd echo the comment]s above about movie coverage-- looks like you might be even more sleep deprived... sorry!! :)

Thanks!

I love everyone's ideas and suggestions! I would definitely like to see the faces behind Dramabeans, too.*^^* Specials on Korean indie music is a great idea. Movie recaps - awesome.

My own suggestion? A segment for fashion! Who did Cha Yehryun wear on Royal Family? Where did Soo Ae's flowy blouses come from? I'm curious about the designers actors and actresses wear. I would love to see a breakdown of the clothes, bag, shoes, designers and costs. Of course, I know it's a lot more work than just posting captures.....but maybe someone dedicated to fashion could be brought on board to dig up that info?

Anyway, thanks for everything you guys do on this site. It's already such a clean site....I look forward to seeing Dramabeans grow in 2012~!

First of all, you ladies have gone above and beyond in making this website so awesome. Thank you for that.

So you are asking what do I want to see this year in this website. Oh boy, let's start with a simpler wish, how about more podcasts, just because you are just so fun to listen to (not to mention the drunk podcast). Then let's kick it up a notch with possibility of interviews (discussion) with some drama writers/ PD. And as the last over the top wish, how about a creation of original drama story written by both of you.

Javabean, Girlfriday and all the guest writers, thank you for making my days... keep up the awesome-ness!!

I started watching dramas about 5 years ago and thanks to the lovely fansubbers and to this great site, I've kept going. One of the best things about watching dramas has been learning more about Korean culture. It would be great to see more about Korean culture in the site this year.

We get great random snippets during recaps (like during IN2D) and through the definitions feature you had a while ago. It makes for a richer drama experience when you can understand the references and little inside jokes that are unique to the culture. Plus it would be fun to see what you guys and other guest writers/commentators think about other culture movements like internationalizing kpop, fashion, role of religion etc.

Thank you so much for all your work over the past few years and best of luck for this next year and the years to come!

I can't really think of anything to add except i agree with the people that want to have some more old but good classic dramas as well as movies (like sunny) being recapped/summarised :) I feel like suggesting video blogs but that's probably because i love your podcasts so much :D
Keep up the great work!

You guys do such a great job. I've only jumped on the bandwagon recently, so I'm still learning my way around your site. I love the recaps. The more recaps the better! You guys fill in some serious cultural/translator holes. Plus reading your comments has made me a more thoughtful viewer :) Thanks!

I wouldn't mind movie recaps, and maybe some sort of master page to go to of the recaps you have?

Happy 5th Anniversary Dramabeans! Recaps are the reasons why I visit this site every day. Your recaps give details on how this one scene connected with the other and how it is linked with the Korean culture, which I don’t find on watching with a mere subtitle. It is of great help to us who has a little knowledge of the Korean traditions.

I’m hoping to see more entries about Korean customs, food, places, music, and/or anything about Korea.

Thank you so much, more power… and more recaps in the future. Btw, I love your podcasts too…

I would definitely love to read recaps (or weecaps) of daily dramas and sitcoms, but I know that's probably impossible since the commitment that those recaps would require is just insane.

I'm already very grateful that you guys have done many intro and follow-up posts on shows like "You're Here, You're Here, You're Really Here" and "Ojakkyo Brothers" because these are actually shows that I probably wouldn't dive into without having read about them in this kind of detail.

Anyhow, thanks for 5 years of awesomeness! <3

I absolutely love whatever goes on here! I just hope you can keep up the great recaps that you've been doing all along.

My suggestion - maybe have drama competitions? Like pitting Dream High and My Princess against each other last year - that was so much fun as a watcher and as a DB member :)

I love this site and really appreciate all of the hard work and dedication it take to keep something like this going! Happy 5th!

My suggestion is probably too much work but it would be nice to have an 'actors index' where you can reference all of the recaps and stories on the site sorted by actor. Maybe even add your personal comments like "...X is underrated" about the actor or notes like "...X is in the military until 2014.."

Thanks again for everything :)

I've always wanted to see jb and girlfriday's top 5 or top 10 Korean movies. Not a recap or anything strenuous. Just your favorite Korean movies of the ones you have seen so far. I've seen a lot of people recommend their favorite k-movies, but I always gets the same names. I figure you fine ladies might have choices that I've never seen before. It would be fun.

Anyways, Happy Birthday Dramabeans. Let's look forward to another many years of happiness. Ganbatte ne~ Jaiyou Jaiyou Jaiyou! Manseeeeee~

I'm not saying I want a list of things to watch. I'm just curious as to how much jb and girlfriday's list would deviate from the norm. I haven't checked for a while now to see what people are recommending these to watch considering the number of new movies that have been released over the years.

I have only seen 5 of these, but that looks like the mainstream, lightish fare film list, or films that did well in the Korean cinemas (I know 200 Pound Beauty and Speedy Scandal both held records for ticket sales).

I'm wondering now who you are getting these recommendations from... nothing artsy or profound here (I might in the wrong... there are some that I haven't watched AND also don't know anything about). No Kim Ki-duk or anything of that type.

My Sassy Girl - everyone loves that one, personally I really don't like it (I should review it, just so there is ONE dissenting voice out there).

Let's hope JB and GF compile their lists for us to see!

i love reading drama reviews. i wish more dramas were reviewed! also, if you guys did subtitles too, that'd be awesome! though i know a bunch of other groups do them, sometimes i can't find the ones i need!

What I want to see on DB.... SOOOO many things. But if I have to choose one, how about some non-korean movie or drama? (I can dream...)
Or a recap/review of an old variety show (so that we know it's done, and you can just compress the recap. hint. Explorers of the Human Being. or Full House. or longer ones like X-man, Love Letter, etc.)

And since this is the last event.... I'm going to unleash my luuuuuuuuuurveeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!

DB From JB, GF, Writers, to lurkers and everyone in between, SARANGHAEYOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy Anniversary! I love this site; the funny, wiity and interesting things people have to say always has me coming back for me. That being said, new additions like more movie reviews, news about music, etc. is always fun.

Personally, I would love to see a place (like a forum?) to discuss specific topics; like nominating the character you love to hate in Korean drama and why or a program ending that totally ruined the series... Just think of all the things people would have to say!

In any event thank you so much for all of your hard work; it makes people happy. :)
