Dramabeans 5-Year Anniversary Giveaway #4

javabeans: So here we are with the last giveaway in our five-year anniversary extravaganza! Phew, I’m tired. All this organizing is exhausting. Next year Dramabeans is just gonna have to deal with a store cake and a third-rate magician.

girlfriday: Just no clowns. That’s no way to spend a birthday.

javabeans: Now I know how Santa feels. Well, maybe without the drunk crazy.

girlfriday: Maybe this is why he drinks.

javabeans: Who knew it was work giving stuff away?

girlfriday: Well I’m inherently selfish, so not me. But it WAS really cool to read everyone’s thank you’s to our hard-working contributors and guesties. Thanks for giving them so much love!

javabeans: Yes. It makes us feel better for loading them down with recaps. What, this recap factory doesn’t run on unicorn dust and fangirl dreams, you know.

girlfriday: No, it runs on the blood sweat and tears of the few willing to be paid in Dramabeans Dollars, aka Abs Photos of the Day.

javabeans: Anyway, this is our last giveaway to celebrate our fifth birthday, which means this is your last chance to enter to win a birthday giveaway prize!

girlfriday: For the last big hurrah, we’re giving away a Samsung Galaxy Tablet, so you can watch dramas, listen to kpop, and read Dramabeans wherever you go! If you end up in rehab because of it, we will disavow all knowledge of enabling your habit.

javabeans: Enter at your own peril.

And now, for our winners. Congratulations to…

  • Jules (aka snoozit), winner of a one-year premium subscription to Dramafever,
  • Missyu_who, winner of the other premium subscription to Dramafever,
  • and Carinne, winner of the iPod nano (with javabeans playlist).

Giveaway #4

Question: What do you want to see on Dramabeans in 2012? This is your chance to tell us that one thing you’ve always wanted to see on DB or what you want to see more of this year. Maybe that’s more of the same, or maybe you’ve got a wild ‘n crazy out-there idea. We are not averse to crazy. (As always, please use a valid email in the comment form. No need to tell us where you live this time.)

Prize: A 7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tablet 7.0 Plus.

Winner announced: Sunday, January 29, at 8pm, Pacific Standard Time*

*Or, 10pm in Mexico City, 11pm in NYC, 1am in Buenos Aires, 4am in London, 5am in Paris, noon in Singapore and Manila, 1pm in Seoul and Tokyo, or 3pm in Sydney and Vladivostok. Okay, you get the point. (You can refer to this handy Time and Date converter to find out what this is in your time zone.)

i would like to see more series reviews. i know recaps of every individual episode are very burdensome, but basically, i only like reading the "thoughts" section of the recaps and getting recommendations on what to watch. i like the series reviews you guys have done so far--like "princess' man" and "color of a woman."

as always, thank you for being the BEST source for witty commentary and kdrama news...and post-army ab fawning. :)

I love this site more than any other blog,
Without checking for updates every seven minutes,
I'd be nothing... my life would be a murky fog.

I laugh, I love, I sob when my celeb-'husband(s)' get engaged,
(I swear, I would love nothing better than keeping them caged)
So thank you, thank you, from the bottom of my soul,
For the updates on my not-so-secret hobby.
This blog protects me from reality, shielding me from cold.

What to improve, you inquire? I grin.
Oh, how I would enjoy giving this question a spin.
Those reviews/ratings at the top of the tab...
Saved my soul, was my compass, they are totally fab.
When I was lost and overwhelmed in the beginning of my kdrama journey,
Those rescued me by providing me direction
They saved me multiple times from being wheeled out on a gurney.

I would love more old reviews (not recaps!) of the classics and oldies,
Since those are like trips down memory lane. I started out on those.
They are the goldies.

Ha.

And more cultural posts, food posts, and maybe a tourist-y post for all of us noobs?
Seriously, I'm afraid to try restaurants
Since I'm vegetarian and I'm scared of eating the wrong foods.

I love reading about the actor/actresses' interviews; they're so insightful and cool.
Knowing that they're human beings
That being a pretty talented person doesn't necessarily make you a tool.

I love listening to the Podcasts, it puts audio to voice
Maybe the faces can follow? haha, just kidding :P
Anonymity for internet-bloggers is always the best choice ^_~

So yeah - more overall impressions of dramas, of directors, writers, and such
Though I do firmly believe that if nothing changed in the upcoming year...
If nothing was different...
I'd be just as grateful and thankful of your awesomeness
- or at least that much.

Dramabeans (and its writers) should be be congratulated for its 5 year course so far, sometimes it had to go through those "space time conundrums".

And since it has proven that it can, it would be great if sometimes, we could have a throwback kdrama oldie recap.

I havent seen such a generous child in awhile. Happy Birthday DRAMABEANS!

I wasn't going to delurk (or is it unlurk?), but this prompt is a bit too good to pass up. I've always wanted to know what the Dramabeans team thought of Bobby Lee's Mad TV sketch on Korean dramas. Anyway, thanks so much for your hard work throughout these years! I can't imagine watching dramas without this site.

Happy 5th Anniversary again to DB!

I've always enjoyed your cleverly written drama recaps. I aslo loved the occassional mini series recap and kmovie updates. I think, for 2012, it would be fun to read your take on more of those! I absolutely love your writting style and it would be nice to read your comments on new/old kmovies!

Thanks for 5 years of awesomeness and hillarity! May you have more to come! :)

DramaBeans is a very versatile blog and it's my primary source on news about Korean dramas, actors, and actresses. I too would like to see more reviews (movies, music, and dramas not recapped).

In addition, I have a very specific request. I started watching the amazing 1n2d after you began recapping it (i.e. from when Uhm Tae Woong joins) and am so so so sad that it will be ending soon. I'm going to miss all the members so much. Some of the members are not involved in dramas and therefore, would normally not appear on DramaBeans. Therefore, I would like to ask for DramaBeans to keep up with the 1n2d members by posting news about them after 1n2d ends. Otherwise, it would be very difficult for me to access news about them.

Thank you!

I would really love for more Pop Culture & Society posts. For the criminally short time you were doing them, the posts were my favorite thing on dramabeans, even more so than the drama recaps. It would be great to see some more analytic and socially informative posts like The Fairy and the Woodcutter, or prime examples of what an intelligent debate should be, as demonstrated in Point-counterpoint: Pursuing beauty in 200 Pound Beauty.

While you sometimes do posts alerting us to new movies coming out, rarely are there follow-ups once the movies come out. I'd love to see some more movie reviews, if you can work them in. If not, I'd completely understand. What all of you do already is a lot of work and I definitely appreciate everything you're all doing. Thanks for all the awesomeness!

Dear Javabeans and Girlfriday,

I feel that this website includes great discussions into past and upcoming Korean dramas...

However, I would enjoy more comments/articles about the writers or writing teams behind the dramas.

Do they even remain the same? Or do the teams quickly change from episode 1 to the final episode (whether it's 16 or 24)?

With all the inspiration that's fit to print,

Poetry_Lyric

However, even without movie reviews, this site is still awesome!!!! Thanks for creating this site!!!!

For this year, like many other people have said already, I would love to see more movie reviews. It's hard to find a credible and in-depth review of Korean movies. But other than that, I think that the site looks pretty good. Thanks again for all the hard work! =)

I would really like to see We Got Married/Strong Heart Recaps around here more :) Once when dramabeans did that Strong Heart recap it was so funny xD I would like to see more of those~ And I would love to see the recappers rag on couples that don't do enough skinship or cringe at the (too) cheesy moments :) However, I do appreciate all the awesome recaps of dramas/drunken podcasts :)

Dramabeans is amazing already, and it's hard to think of something that I'd like to see on DB...

but if there's ONE thing, I'd like to see the faces behind everything!! Just one picture of javabeans and girlfriday!! Everytime I read something on DB, i always wonder how you guys look like, haha.

and perhaps maybe movie reviews? I don't think movie recaps would be necessary because that would be basically spoiling the entire movie, but you guys would do an awesome job at giving reviews! I would totally take DB's movie reviews seriously in my viewing selection process.

I loved the My Lovely Kim Sam Soon recaps (the blast from the past hits!) and would love love love to catch up with dramas I have missed only by the fault of being born in the wrong culture (Just a couple thousand kilometres off!). What would I like to see here for 2012?

Well, that's an easy question to answer - every time you or our new recappers are undecided as to which drama or variety show to recap, I want you to call me right away and I can give you the dramas that I want to see recapped! And right after we talk, I'll go out to feed my pet unicorn his meal of Lucky Charms & 4-leaf clovers.

Since the name Dramabeans says, we could have an online rant (spill the beans...not lame haha) between the writers about dramas that could have been something but lost it (Myung-Wol the Spy, oh the frustration!), or the dramas that just get better and better (Cityhunter, discussing how hot Lee Min Ho is is a bonus hehehe) etc. Now that would be enjoyable to read!

And include something that the writers of dramabeans would like to see from drama! I would love to read what kind of dramas girlfriday or javabeans like/dislike and actors that'd they'd like to see :D or perhaps, have a section discussing which idol actors you should think should act or shouldn't for all those k-pop lovers!

Dramabeans is basically perfect (I only speak the truth). It's been the source of my dark eye bags on many many mornings due to addictive reading of your recaps but needless to say, I'm completely unshamed to say I don't regret it nor is seeing Jung Il Woo's face just before I sleep.

P.S. Totally irrevelant but I have always loved your ever-changing banners with the site name!

Happy 5th Anniversary, Dramabeans!

I liked the addition of movie reviews last year. Hopefully that will continue this year. I wouldn't mind seeing something like music reviews. I generally like the songs you guys add to your posts and sometimes I'll never have heard of them before or the artist singing. So I think every now and then an artist/album review would be nice. Not so much mainstream music but your indie/alternative kpop groups and singers would be nice.

Thanks for all your efforts over the past 5 years x

Personally I believe a culture is something you have to experience to understand - and sometimes become exaggerated or overlooked in dramas or songs. Like the drama "myths" busted: such as is aegyo common? Do all omas' force their kids to go for blind dates? Do women get angry and throw their water in each other's faces?
I would love to see Dramabeans address some of such questions. :) Especially for foreigners like me, a lot of what we assume of the Korean culture comes from dramas... And such things actually might misrepresent a lovely and interesting korean culture.
In addition, I also love LOVE LOVE what many stars wear in the dramas. I'm not very sure about this point but many fashion trends are led by kdramas right? >< Dramabeans could keep track of some of these styles so we can know whats "in" and whats "out":D Hehe.
Overall though, Dramabeans is kdrama heaven so God bless your souls for listening to what we have to say!

Even though I'm more of a lurker than a commenter, I'd like to say thanks to Dramabeans for reviewing so many dramas I wouldn't have watched if I didn't get a chance to read a recap/review beforehand. I would love to see more varieties recapped here. They're hilarious, and amazing to read on a bad day. They're especially great to read after weeping over a drama.

I love dramabeans as is but if I had to pick something, I'd ask for more reviews/recaps on the long dramas, like Smile Again, Donghae. I love dramabeans, it's the only site that satisfies my drama obsession aside from the streaming sites but most of the time I like reading your recaps and reviews more than watching the dramas themselves. I love the little jokes, analogies and analysis of Javabeans, Girlfriday, and all the other writers; it's like you're part of the drama experience when I read. Happy 5th and here's to another awesome 5 years!

I am seriously so impressed with the Dramabeans empire that Javabeans has built over the last 5 years with Girlfriday and the awesome guest bloggers that I almost feel bad asking for anything more. I know you guys are busy (in that real life we sometimes mention outside of K-drama land), but I would love to see more stuff about Korean culture and society! The recaps are always great--funny, detailed, insightful--so please keep that up, but what really drew me to this site initially was the highly intelligent level of discussion relating to all things pop culture in Korea. As much as I enjoy the snarkiness and humor, I would really love to see in-depth analysis and hear your personal opinions on some of the issues raised in dramas or movies, like you did with 200 Pounds Beauty. No other site that I know of fosters such simultaneously intellectual and human/ relatable discussion of the Korean dramas that we so enjoy.

Dramabeans has greatly enriched my love of Korean culture and popular culture, even though I'm Chinese myself. Thank you so so so much to all the contributors, and once again, happy 5th anniversary! I sincerely hope you'll be here for many more years to come (:

Movie Reviews would be nice :)

But it would also be fun to see something really funny...like a comic strip. It doesn't have to come out every week or so. More like every month or bi-month--an inside the dramabeans office type thing (even though I don't think there is an office...is there?)

That'd be so cool and gives readers a chance to get to know the site owners a littler bit better.

Music reviews would be cool, I've seen a couple music mentions from time to time but it'd be cool to see what you guys think of an OST or that one song that always plays during the DRAMA MOMENTS in a drama. Hahaha.

I'd also like to see a vlog post one day if no one is camera shy. It could be one person or a group if you if you're in contact with each other. It could be like a little talk show. Recapping would be a little quicker that way too (:

Happy 5 Years!

I would like to see some variety show recap or just some special part that is worth to recap because i know shows are long and hard to recap. It is also hard to find shows online to watch so I gave up chasing some shows that I used to love and I wish I can see some recaps from you guys such as we got marry and happy together. And as previous people mentioned, I would also love to see some good old drama recaps. Thank you

I think your website is wonderful as it is and truly I had to think for a bit if there was anything I wanted you guys to add. I think it'd be great to have some type of ongoing list of favorite dramas of all time (because we have the favorites of the year) and who's favorite's they were. (ex JB's are this, girlfriday's are this). I think it'd be helpful because I'm finding myself starting to go back to older dramas that I didn't have time to watch before. An all-time favorite list would be pretty cool I think. :D

Thanks for the giveaway guys! You guys are too thoughtful and kind.

As non-Korean speakers who often miss out on the nuances of the Korean language and culture, I'd say that it would be nice if there were more topics in the extended glossary. For instance, the whole deal about house buying/renting in Korea and the 'wolsae' business, which always stumps me.
