Dramabeans 5-Year Anniversary Giveaway #4

javabeans: So here we are with the last giveaway in our five-year anniversary extravaganza! Phew, I’m tired. All this organizing is exhausting. Next year Dramabeans is just gonna have to deal with a store cake and a third-rate magician.

girlfriday: Just no clowns. That’s no way to spend a birthday.

javabeans: Now I know how Santa feels. Well, maybe without the drunk crazy.

girlfriday: Maybe this is why he drinks.

javabeans: Who knew it was work giving stuff away?

girlfriday: Well I’m inherently selfish, so not me. But it WAS really cool to read everyone’s thank you’s to our hard-working contributors and guesties. Thanks for giving them so much love!

javabeans: Yes. It makes us feel better for loading them down with recaps. What, this recap factory doesn’t run on unicorn dust and fangirl dreams, you know.

girlfriday: No, it runs on the blood sweat and tears of the few willing to be paid in Dramabeans Dollars, aka Abs Photos of the Day.

javabeans: Anyway, this is our last giveaway to celebrate our fifth birthday, which means this is your last chance to enter to win a birthday giveaway prize!

girlfriday: For the last big hurrah, we’re giving away a Samsung Galaxy Tablet, so you can watch dramas, listen to kpop, and read Dramabeans wherever you go! If you end up in rehab because of it, we will disavow all knowledge of enabling your habit.

javabeans: Enter at your own peril.

And now, for our winners. Congratulations to…

  • Jules (aka snoozit), winner of a one-year premium subscription to Dramafever,
  • Missyu_who, winner of the other premium subscription to Dramafever,
  • and Carinne, winner of the iPod nano (with javabeans playlist).

Giveaway #4

Question: What do you want to see on Dramabeans in 2012? This is your chance to tell us that one thing you’ve always wanted to see on DB or what you want to see more of this year. Maybe that’s more of the same, or maybe you’ve got a wild ‘n crazy out-there idea. We are not averse to crazy. (As always, please use a valid email in the comment form. No need to tell us where you live this time.)

Prize: A 7-inch Samsung Galaxy Tablet 7.0 Plus.

Winner announced: Sunday, January 29, at 8pm, Pacific Standard Time*

*Or, 10pm in Mexico City, 11pm in NYC, 1am in Buenos Aires, 4am in London, 5am in Paris, noon in Singapore and Manila, 1pm in Seoul and Tokyo, or 3pm in Sydney and Vladivostok. Okay, you get the point. (You can refer to this handy Time and Date converter to find out what this is in your time zone.)

I want to see Javabeans (and Girlfriday!) actually post in the Open Threads telling us about your day or whatever...like how it was back then when Open Thread just started. =]

I like this idea :) I don't really have time to visit the open thread anymore but I think I used to remember when JB was more forthcoming on the OT.

On another note, maybe more replies to readers that posts on the threads?

I think everything's been really fun here! Dramabeans has rolled out so many new features since its debut that I don't know how it's even physically possible, =).

But, if you were looking for more topics, =P, I say more on culture, language, and history! And, more recaps (general/episodic) on dramas older than DB!

(I also vaguely remember some kind of review/post about the Japanese drama, Hana Yori Dango, right around when Boys Before Flowers was about to be broadcasted. It surprised me that you guys had time to watch dramas outside of Korea, so I think it would be really interesting to read your thoughts and ideas on non-Korean dramas/movies. Of course, they would somehow be related/linked to Kdramas!)

Heya.

I think this last question JB and GF have asked is the hardest. I already enjoy Dramabeans so much in its present form.

I think there have been some good suggestions from the people above.

However, one thing I'm not up for here is recaps on Taiwanese or other dramas with no Korean elements. I come here for KDrama and things related to it. I think if people want to talk about Taiwanese or other dramas but can't find anyone else doing something they should start something themselves. Like field of dreams if you build it others will come to use it. Like anything there's always someone out there who is into what you are.

Also I would not like this site to go Allkpop or Soompi on us. I think those sites cover the entertainment gossip reports well and it's good enough just to have the links as below. Could I suggest adding Maangchi's cooking blog in the links as there are a lot of people who drool over the food shown in KDramas but don't know where to stary when it comes to cooking Korean food. She does a great job not only with recipes but showing people how to cook with free videos.

These are other things I'd personally go for:

1) It was JB and GF's unique writing style and comments that drew me to this blog and if we could have more of those I'd be up for it. The extras like pictures and music and drama related posts are good too.

2) I like the podcasts as well but I find sometimes it's hard to catch names of people and even dramas if they're unfamiliar to me so I really find it helpful when there are references given as to what is talked about when.

3) I would really appreciate a widget in the sidebar that had a KDrama/variety show phrase of the day with a recording so we could listen to the phrase, a written English translation, and the phrase written in Korean and in roman letters.

4) I would like to have an updated version of suggestions for a KDrama themed trip to Korea.

5) If there was ever a chance for the Dramabeans Dream Team to have interviews with actors I'd be on it like white on rice.

The widget I'd go for would be something like that linked below but with a KDrama flavor.

Congratulations on the success of your 5-year anniversary celebration! Both of you, JB and Girlfriday and your guest recappers have all worked hard in sharing your passion for kdramas and I am very grateful. This year, I wish all of you good health, wisdom and happiness because for one, I want to see all of you continue the awesome job you've been doing of recapping/reviewing more dramas. I may not always bond with a drama but I've discovered more dramas I do like from ypur many reviews/recaps. Great job, you guys and keep it up!

I hope to see more of The Moon That Embraces The Sun's recaps soon!! That's pretty much all I'm looking forward to right now, haha.

Also, can't wait for you guys to continue churning out humorous and delightful podcasts!! Fight on, dramabeans!

I would really love some golden oldies recaps, both movies and dramas. Even if you couldn't do blow-by-blows of every episode like you do for the current shows, if you could give overviews in one two or three pieces it would really help those of us who are late to the game to find good stuff to watch. :D

I would love to see a playlist page for all the amazing music recappers enjoy! I've downloaded and loved many songs that have been put on dramabeans and would love a chance to see it in its entirety! Other than that I have loved reading recaps of my favorite dramas and variety shows and am content with the site as it is :) Looking forward to a year packed with good dramas! Dream High 2 don't let me down! Ojakgyo Brothers finish well! Loving Tae Hee and Ja Eun :)

I really love dramabeans site the way it is! A wonderful variety of drama recaps, variety show recaps, celebrity news, award show pictures, movie news, and even some music news! I love it! As a lot of the other commenters have said, movie recaps would be an awesome addition!

I think an "Actor/Actress of the Month" feature would be awesome (wherein you could rec their best projects or list their hits and misses and hilariously embarrassing moments in various dramas, and of course it provides an opportunity to post pretty, pretty pictures).

And like many others have said, more film reviews would be great.

I would love to see more movie reviews, as everyone else has already mentioned. Also, I think you should post recommendations for old, but worthy dramas. :-) There are tons of dramas that began and ended before dramabeans, but I don't even know where to begin.

Also, I'd love to read more about Korean culture. The last post was way too long ago. :-( I think it would be really interesting if you included a topic about Korean food as well. I always start drooling every time someone eats in the drama. *__*

Anyways, HAPPY FIVE YEARS, AND I HOPE FOR MANY MORE FIVE-YEAR-ANNIVERSARIES TO COME. ♥

I really love this site and feel that conceptually it needs no new changes but I would like to make a recap suggestion. Since you guys have been recapping variety shows it would be cool to see a recap of Hello Baby with MBLAQ only because they are CRAZY. I watched them in Idol Army and have never cried laughed like that before.

I like MBLAQ but there is no other way of saying this but they are really stupid. They are like the Jersey Shore of Korea (without the sex and alcohol of course) but just as ridiculous and addicting. I'm not a fan of Jersey Shore but after watching MBLAQ in Idol Army I can't say anything about people who do watch it. Shear stupidity is fun to watch and could be fun to recap *fingers crossed*.

Anyways, love you guys and Dramabeans

This has been fun! Although a regular reader, I had never posted a comment until this month...I guess that shows you which camp I'm in. =P

I enjoyed the addition of a movie reviewer. I also enjoy the podcasts, and I'm hopeful that perhaps someday a video one will get added? I also like that you recap variety shows, even if you do not continue to recap them regularly. I have been introduced to some that I would not necessarily have known about. Thank you! I also enjoy the interviews that you had translated in the past, but don't see as much of nowadays. I would love (and I am sure you would, too) if you were able to personally interview some of the drama actors, directors, writers, etc. Some of them have to have heard about this wonderful site and the many fans that it has generated! We must know firsthand how they really are! Please do this for us, okay? And maybe just start with Lee Minho.

Thank you and congratulations again! Looking forward to many more years of addiction!

because i am utterly shallow and not afraid to admit it (especially now that i've had a drink or two- who's counting anyway?), i would love to see a weekly Abs photo post to make every fangirl/noona/ahjumma reader here ridiculously happy.

other than that, i would not change a thing on DB. you girls rock! *hic!*

Take your pick whahahahaha but I strongly recommend you choose those with Nkkdnss...(fans self while imagining DB turning into an R rated site)

Well you did ask and are open to crazy ideas.

Hmm...Like everyone else said, more movie reviews would be great, but I think you guys have done amazing with the drama recaps. I think putting up posts about K-indie or just non-mainstream Kpop (since there's plenty of sites on that already) would be a really cool option too.

Either way, you guys are amazing! <3

Congrats to all the winners!

For 2012, I would like to see more movie review and recap. I would also like to see more recap from Santa. I like to see more drunken podcast. The last one was such a hoot. :)

Basically, just keep doing what you are doing. I love Dramabeans regardless. :)

I wonder have you girls went to Korea. I means visit all the drama/movies shooting locations? For eg: The German's village in Trouble Couples, and was in 1N2D. Or French village in Beethoven Virus and was in Running Man wit Nickhun and Taecyon? .. I wonder what was your girls own opinion about the places?

I remember you also did blog and lists all g.o.d's songs in a beautiful sentences (I love g.o.d) and that makes me keep listening to the old kpop songs. Wonder if you have any others old/new kpop songs that you like and can be perfectly fit as drama/movie OST. Perhaps you can suggest one. ^^

Happy Anniversary Dramabeans (being followed this websites since Javabeans time) .. what a long journey. and Happy Chuseok, happy chines new year. May this dragon year will bring more happiness in ourlife and your life too.. Happy holiday.

I think your site is perfect, though I would like to see more of the Reality Show roundups.

As for something new... personally, I'd love it if you'd add a few little In-The-News segments, where you briefly list several of the hot-button issues concerning Korea citizens at the time (almost like the news segments on Saturday Night Live). If you don't want to take the comedy angle, of course, you could just make it into a short helpful list every 4 or 5 months or so. Just to give us a quick overview, since I'm sure some of these issues are reflected in all these dramas, but we're missing them since they're kind of outside our scope...

Either way, awesome site, and thanks so much for these fun contests/giveaways. You can never have too many of those, lol. ;)

Ha! Sure enough, in the first three comments, two people suggested movie reviews. *g*

What I'd most like to see is a feature that feel a bit by the wayside not too long after it was introduced (which I do not begrudge at all -- you both do so much to keep this website running and updating regularly as it is that I feel a little bad even making this suggestion, haha), which is: recaps of the first episodes of older dramas. Your recap of the first episode of Delightful Girl Chun-Hyang is what gave me the last push I needed to watch it, and in my search for older dramas to watch, I haven't found terribly many reviews or commentaries that help in figuring out what to watch and what not to watch.

(Hahaha, my suggestion is so selfish! Sorry.)

Happy birthday, Dramabeans! I might not comment too often, but that doesn't mean I'm not here every day, religiously (and perhaps a bit creepily) reading nearly every post - except, of course, for recaps that might spoil things (unless I want those things spoiled) (it's a complicated relationship). Dramabeans is far and away one of the most informative and entertaining of drama websites, and my greatest wish is that you can manage another five years. Thanks for everything. :)

Happy Birthday again Dramabeans!!

You guys have done great and thank you so much! Please continue to feed our drama obsessions...it's a great drug...how else are we going to escape real world, no? Love the rantings and analysis and side comments that crack me up b/c I'm having the same thought! Please keep up the substance...more drama and analysis, less kpop?

A crazy idea...how do your legions of followers voluntarily contribute to Dramabeans?!

A less crazy idea: a list of all your "watched/seen" dramas with javabeans ratings/rantings?

BTW, was listening to your podcast#10 while writing this, and I'm actually digging the Rain song?! The dude's got a quite jazzy/small bar-cafe voice! Imagine...javabeans and girlfriday, at a table giggling over dramas w/ Rain swaying at the small step-up stage. WAIT! Does Rain even sway?! Probably right after he does some crazy twitching dance....and I don't know about javabeans and girlfriday giggling and sitting at a table in a small bar where Rain is serenading them(depending on how many drinks they've had)....I'll leave that up to their imaginations?

I can honestly say that your site is the awesomest site ever! so I'm okay if you keep it just the way that it is.(you know how in Bridget Jones Mark Darcy says "to Bridget just as she is"?I say to dramabeans !just as it is)
Nevertheless,it's always fun reading the posts that javabeans and girlfriday write together like the script doctor for myung-wol the spy or the promos for salaryman.
So maybe more of those:)

One of the main reasons I enjoy your recaps and other posts (even by guesties) is your take on the drama while giving us information on Korean culture itself. I may be part of a small group, but I enjoy documentaries and have watched all of them available on dramafever (they are so good). What I would like to see is something you want to talk about (culture wise) to help readers understand dramas a bit more. Most of us know why "skinship" is limited compared to say.. the United States. It makes me curious what other differences there are that I could learn more about. I'm honestly not sure if I am getting my idea across correctly.

DRAMABEANS :) All the work you do is amazing and I have no complaints...BUT I do have one suggestion. I think it would be amazing to post actor/actress profiles once in a while, in memoriam of their past works. When you mention some brilliant actors/actresses like Lee Jung Jae I'm afraid some readers don't know who he/she is well enough! Would be great! But keep up the goodness ^^

This site is perfect as it is but I would love to see more articles about korean culture.
Two years ago I discovered K-Dramaland and fell in love with Korea, but since I never actually went there, my friends and parents are always loughing at me, telling me that you can't love a country/culture just by watching tv shows and movies. ... which is true!
So here would be my request : would it be possible once a month or once every two weeks to have a post about korean culture (food, where do they like to travel, the different towns in Korea, korean litterature and history, how is it that korean children are always playing 50 different instruments (!^^), what is real among all the drama clichés, the north/south thing, etc.
Thanks and... Happy 5 years !

Thank you dramabeans and girlfriday for this blog! Quirky yet informative, in-depth commentaries regarding dramas, variety shows, movies and more. Though I don't necessarily agree with you all the time, it makes me realize the bigger picture outside my bias and you guys have presented the most reliable k-drama blog out in the internet! A BIG THANK YOU! <3

I've really enjoyed you 1 night 2 days recaps and how you write them in conversation form. It makes us readers feel that we are just having a normal talk with the bloggers. Unfortunately, 1 night 2 days is ending soon. :(

I wish for you take on the Season 2 of 1night2days! Or if it doesn't meet our expectations, if you could take another variety talk show, like Strong Heart, Win Win, Infinity Challenge, SNL Korea, that would be DAEBAK.

Personally, I'd would love Dramabeans and Girlfriday to infinity if they pick on Strong Heart. :))

Thank you again!

Also, maybe a section where you guys rate the actors based on their dramas..like the drama ratings. That would be fun.

Thanks for all the hard work. I love this site the way it is but: not only does it have drama recaps and reviews, it also has korean entertainment news. I guess on that note, keep up translating for us non-koreans news about our favorite dramas, actors etc. I also appreciate those photo shoots that you guys sometimes put up. If you guys are looking for something new to feature maybe you should do actor profiles? And I think a lot of people have already mentioned movie reviews.

Anyways, keep up the hard work ladies! You guys are the best!
