Dramabeans Podcast #9
by | January 16, 2012 | 105 Comments

Another podcast, and this time, girlfriday and I converse with a couple of our guest recappers. Kaedejun, gummimochi, and HeadsNo2 have done such fantastic jobs over the past year or more that we’ve decided to grab them and hold on tight, making them an official part of the Dramabeans family as regular contributors. We think they’re wonderful additions, and we hope you do too (don’t forget to thank ’em in the giveaway post!).

So, we’ve brought them into the latest podcast to introduce them officially to you all; this podcast features gummimochi and kaedejun, while the following one (coming soon!) will feature HeadsNo2.

Lemme just say… great choice of Super Junior songs for the podcast!!! Excellent! I’m thinking it was gummimochi’s, kudos to you! I like those songs a lot.

And it was a wonderful idea to include all gummimochi, Headno2 and kaedejun for the podcast.

  8. Ani

I totally find it weird to hear the voices to the recappers when using their word selection and writing style I come up with what I think they sound like in real life. And then even after listening to the podcasts, I swear I keep some idea of what they sound like, but definitely go back to my the voices in my head that I assigned to each recapper. XD

  9. mud

Hooray! Dramabeans is the gift that keeps on giving!

  10. 10 Kandy

Yay!!! All my favorite writers together!?! This is great:)

  15. 15 Amberscube

This is like the best podcast ever…

    Dramabeans, you rock!

    • 15.1 hic!

Haven’t listened to it yet, but it’s gonna be mighty hard to beat the drunken podcast. That was hilarious! Hopefully that’ll be a yearly tradition that the new members of the family can join in on later this year. Keeping fingers crossed that someday, samsooki will participate in a podcast too.

  16. 16 anotheraddict

I swear, the Drama Gods have really been smiling on us lately. It’s only mid-January and so far this year, we’ve already gotten: muchos dramas, including some great ones, a DB giveaway with great prizes, DB podcast #9, moar wonderful recappers joining the DB family (yay!)– just in time to meet the need created by the muchos dramas. We’ve even been enjoying another swoonworthy Lee Min Ho.
What’s not to love about 2012 in K-dramaland?

  17. 17 Eleven11

These are always fun to listen to. Thanks, gummimochi and kaedejun for your contributions!

I think its really easy to forget that you’re more than just screen names that provide delicious recaps – so its nice hearing from life on the other side of things =]

  18. 18 mezzed

Lee Min Woo isn’t coming back from the army until Feb. 2012! =(
Then they’re planning their comeback for March!! ^___^

  21. 21 Jen

It’s nice to hear from gummimochi and kaedejun and I look forward hearing from headsno2 next time. This is shaping up to be a great year for recaps and drama watching. I’m looking forward to all the great recaps that will come this year and thanks to all of you for all the great recaps that I’ve already read. 🙂 A visit to dramabeans totally perks me up when I’m having a down day and it’s great to be able to make a quick stop in here when I don’t have time to watch my dramas. I appreciate all that you all do for all of us.

  22. 22 Jas

I LOVE your podcasts so very much!!!! Thank you so much for another installment 🙂
Even though my first day of classes is tomorrow I stayed up late to listen to this!

  23. 23 Lady Seoul

You guys are awesome. I wish to meet you guys in person one day. ^^

  24. 24 bashful

Congratulations Kaedejun, gummimochi, and HeadsNo2 for becoming Dramabeans regulars! 🙂

So, what are the perks of becoming a regular, aside from gaining lots of adoring and grateful readers? 😉

Congratulations again and I look forward to reading your next recaps/posts.

  25. 25 doozy

Omo! Thanks for another entertaining and informative podcast! And better yet, this time we get a chance to know the guest recappers better. Guest podcast = Love!

  26. 26 KTV

thank you for the podcast. It was so fun to hear about your experience about recapping and your first K-crush. Can’t believe that we all get addicted to the same crack. It is just too awesome to have companions to share the addiction with.

  27. 27 luraaa

Thanks for the podcast. It’s great that the Dramabeans family is getting larger and larger.

  28. 28 VanillaSalt

  29. 29 kapmsT

I love your podcasts so much! I was honestly thinking last night, ahh, I wish I had a dramabeans podcast to listen to. And welcome (officially) to gummimochi and HeadsNo2 😀

  30. 30 Bluefyre

    YES! Thank you!
*downloads and saves for work* 😀

DB podcasts always make my day!

    • 30.1 Linda165

      Hey! Congratulations on your prize!!

      • 30.1.1 Bluefyre

        Aww, thanks! 😀

  31. 31 Kushi

I think that if you want to please viewers who like dramas you don’t, you should probably get a second recapper to defend the drama against your opinion. Nobody wants to see a recapper hate on a drama they like. And especially since it’s only 1 opinion ragging on the drama, the negativity amplifies.

Personally I like it when I have an opposing opinion (as you recappers usually make me see what I’m overvaluing or missing). However, even if you have the best points to defend your opinion, not everyone wants to listen to reason.

  32. 32 currypoker

haha! shinhwa is back, because they are coming back soon. i mean on music shows. XD

  33. 33 Dorotka

    Podcaaaaaaaaaaaaast!!! Great!
And with new voices! Super great!
Going to listen to it soon, hopefully.
BTW, any chance to get samsooki in the podcast… or Santa??? 🙂

    • 33.1 Dorotka

Don’t know whether I should actually share this… but… your podcast really turned cleaning the guineapig’s cage into a pleasant activity :-))))

As for the recaps, I read them for 2 reasons. The first is the same as you said, to once again “relive” the episode together with the thoughts of the recapper (+ extra information, Korean culture references, discussions….). This goes for dramas I watch and there I usually first watch the episode and then read the recap. The second reason is to get the story of dramas I don’t want to or can’t watch (from various reasons like time, life, universe and everything). Like 1000 Days Promise (too melo for me), High Kick (no time), Bad Guy (don’t want to spoil the visual memory by the horrible ending) or Lie To Me (is it still so crappy?). And sometimes I get interested and start watching… and sometimes I stop watching and just read. I think Musical is the one exception when I did both 🙂

Anyway, thank you again for this podcast and long live the recaps (and recappers)!

  34. 34 Brenda

Missed your podcasts too much! 😀 Nice to hear some new additions to the dramabeans family, always fun to hear 🙂
The inclusion of super junior songs for the breaks was great too haha.

Love the shoutout for prosecutor princess! I think it’s seriously underrated and it really was a fun watch and i was so suprised that i was emotionally attached to it, i was expecting it to be just fluff but it became one of my favourites. Thanks for the recaps even though there are alot of recaps from the guest recappers that i haven’t read because i just haven’t started watching the drama or i’m not interested (will watch Whats up soon, but generally i’m waiting for the new dramas coming up)

  35. 35 Arhazivory

The podcast was great. 😀 It was really nice having the guest recappers on….aaaaaand since I like HeadsNo2, I’m definitely looking forward to the next one. I don’t know if its because of the type of drama TWDR was, but I picture HeadsNo2 having a mature sage-like voice. Haha…I woner how warped my perception will turn out to be.

Seriously though, the podcast was awesome. Thanks to all four of you~!!

    • 35.1 Linda165

LOL! I hope HeadsNo2 speaks with a saeguk voice

      • 35.1.1 Bluefyre

        LOL! Same here! Haha.

        Sageuk voice, pretty please? 😀

      • 35.1.2 Ani

        That would be awesome.

        • HeadsNo2

Oh dear, you’re all putting your expectations too high! We did have a discussion about sageuk voices, but not sure if it’ll end up in the final product. 😉

  36. 36 inquisitiveinquisition

Dramabeans is a pretty big site now.

So all these recappers are paid employees?

  37. 37 Ana

This was so much fun to listen to.:-)Felt like I was eavesdropping on one of your conversations though:-D It’s amazing how much the site has grown. And your guest recappers add so much more to the site. It’s nice to put voices to the names.:-)

  38. 38 ivy

OMG I totally watched Happy Together when I was young on my local TV station (dubbed in Mandarin and all) but I forgot what it was called. Now that I googled the cast I found it so familiar… I can’t remember a lot about the plot of the show but I did like it! Only vague memories about that Lee Byung Hun was the big brother of the family… Oh and Cha Tae Hyun’s character had cute stalkerish crush on Jeon Ji Hyun’s character (and something about her drinking raw eggs – random thing to remember, I know) and she was like a wannabe-singer who sings at pubs? Okay my memory fails me I might have gotten it all wrong.

  39. 39 Selli

Aw, thank you guys, you all have awesome voices! ^^ Loved this podcast : )

  40. 40 yeha

fuck headsno2 is now regular? aesdnvsgdnhgscmkhjdfjmafchmks omg this is the best news ever i loved the twdr recaps TT_____TT YAY

  41. 41 Mystisith

My first podcast ever. Woaw ! What an experience, i love it ! So now, after helping me with my written english, i can train my ears in a pleasant way. :).
Warm welcome to the knighted contributors – sword on the shoulder -.
    Kaedejun : You’ve been beanrolled ! AHAHAH !
You guys should start a Youtube channel so we could see your smiling faces. Yes i know : So many dramas, so little time… I truly believe than the k drama community gains in having diversified points of view and recappers. And yes, i agree : K dramaland is for fun. I bless the selective memory ( or rather amnesia ) for the bad dramas, mean comments or korea military duty : Binnie and Rain, i miss you !!
Ajusshi idols : One character pops up in my head. Oska in SeGa. What can i say, some actors are born to age elegantly.
Once again, thanks to all of you for your good job and enthusiasm. We love you and appreciate your dedication. But i guess you already know if you read the comments of the Giveaway #3…

  42. 42 Mawiie

It was really nice to listen to the “new voices” of the family! It always seem as if we know the person more personnaly once we can associate a voice with a name. You girls did really great!

On a side note, as I was listening to podcast on my way to school, I had that super big Eureka moment. You know what you should give away as a part of the 5 years anniversary givaway? A guest spot on the next podcast for some luckyy fans! I think that to have the opinion of an “amateur” can be great too. We, after all, represent all the “commoners” on this website hehe. It would cost nothing and I’m sure that the fan will feel super honored to talk to their “idols” xD

    • 42.1 Mystisith

YES YES YES !! I subscribe to this !!!
Not for myself, but that would be great to hear a fan interviewed by the DB team : Nothing as good as a grilling session with the in- law family ( insert sadistic laugh ).

  43. 43 reddandelion

First time hearing this. This is surprisingly entertaining.
    I love javabean’s voice!

  44. 44 cranky

It’s a wonder that not many talk about Infinity Challenge here since it’s such a popular show and it’s such a great variety show.

  45. 45 Cabbage

The title for the job that lets others skip through episodes for “The good parts version” = recappers.
Sorry. It doesn’t come with health coverage.

  46. 46 olsen

    thanx for the podcast

    love love love!

    I lurve ur voice!

    Btw, what does ‘kaedejun’ mean?

    Just being curious

  47. 47 bluelime

thanks for the podcast!! =) love it!!

  48. 48 Diya

I have always been curious on how long it takes to recap a drama? And I have wondered that if professional writing/film/theater is your day job. I have always been impressed by the awesome quality of the recaps!

  49. 49 Indigo

Love your podcasts, they are so informative. I feel like I’m in a class…a K-drama class (BUT I actually care about the topic).

Though I do have one tiny little complaint… It is sometimes hard to differentiate words when your voices overlap. Maybe you could try to avoid speaking at the same time, or maybe repeat some of the things. Especially when it comes to drama titles or names (I like to look them up, so I would know what/who you are talking about).

  50. 50 Bluefyre

I’m in love with the song choices for these podcasts! Especially this one. JB and crew, you are awesome! 🙂
