Happy Friday everyone! Hope everything is going well in dramaland.

Had the freaking shock of my life yesterday when I tried to download History of a Salaryman and found out Megaupload had been shut down PIPA-style. (0_0). All I could think was "….my dramas! They're gone!" This weekend I'm going to have to buy an external hard drive and stuff it full of you-know-what. There's no way I can buy all of them on DVD, plus fansubs are much better. Any other ideas? The thought of living without access to my dramas is heart-stopping.

On a lighter note, how come all the drama smartphones are suddenly huge? They used to be handheld-size, and all of a sudden they're the size of bricks.

MegaUpload is a Fed's case I heard... the US government did not actually shut it down. So I'm assuming it's permanent.

Nope, that's a real shut down. They were raided and led out in handcuffs. The whole deal. The U.S. is trying to get the owners extradited to the U.S. to try them under the current online piracy laws.

hey dio... happy OT! tho it seems PIPA cut short most of our happiness, i was shocked too when i saw the announcement on the dss shoutbox... i had just downloaded last night the Smile You OST and not until i opened again myAC that i saw the announcement! a big loss for all of us.

you can do with the torrents. and i had not been streaming or watching online but storing all my dramas on external hd, i already got two 500gb, i don;t want to use a thera coz it;s quite bulky.

Try downloading through torrents (utorrent.com) There's no limit to the number of GBs that can be downloaded daily.

It will be difficult to find live torrents for old dramas, but occasionally users at d-addicts will do sometimes. You could ask, and someone might comply.

YES what is up with the giant phones? I've only seen them on Salaryman, but I think those surpass the level of helpfulness, it looks like everyone is talking into a paperback book...

Not sure, but it may be the newish Samsung Note -- reviewers are generally going gaga over it. And I say about time! Enough of these small toylike phones! I refused to get iphone just for that reason! Too dainty!

bah, it seems the whole MegaUpload debacle will be delaying my drama-habit... some sites do have mirror-sites like MediaFire and FileServe, but a lot (a lot a lot a lot a lot) of sites do not T_T Which means it'll ridiculously hard to find raws now...

In better news, Brain just blew my mind. It was so well-done, so beautiful, so... so... everything. The last ten minutes of Episode 19 had me close to tears. Episode 13-16 *had* me in tears. Next to watch is What's Up and Office Girls (if I find raws.... aaaaaah~!!!).

Happy Friday!

So this may sound like a weird question, but I was wondering if anyone could tell me what the floors in traditional Korean houses are made of or how they are constructed? Everytime I watch a sageuk or a modern k-drama that has a character who lives in more of a traditional house, I see those yellow-type floors and I've always wondered how they're made. At first I thought they'd probably be wood, but then I noticed I didn't see any individual planks...Anyways, if anyone is knowledgeable about Korean architecture and would like to enlighten me, I'd get my nerdy fun for the day :D

Do they use tatami mats as well?

0

Wow, I thought I was the only one who wondered about that type of flooring. Glad to know someone else was curious, too. :)

One of my kdrama daydreams is having that kind of traditional house, sleeping on the floor, and eating at the small table with the whole family while seated on cushions....if that doesn't define kdrama addiction, I don't know what does. LOL

Required fields are marked *

I wondered about that too (around the time I was watching Goong I think) But luckily, during my first encounter with Arirang, hehe, they were discussing Ondol or the heated Korean flooring. Apparently, the floors are cemented and underneath is a series of pipes that carries the heat throughout the floor and which generally heats the whole room.

About the yellow surface you were asking, well, I thought it was linoleum because of the size it covers the floor. Some do use linoleum much like carpeting though some use wood chipboard (like the ones used to make desks you can assemble yourself). There are probably other surface materials which I too would like to know about.

Required fields are marked *

I often wonder about the flooring too, but mostly because they spend so much TIME on it. So I think about how the home is heated, whether they construct their floors differently to have a bit more give, how do really old people deal with all that getting up and down, how often do they clean them since linens go on them every day, that kind of thing - I'm nothing if not practical!

I don't think MU was shut down because of SOPA, since the SOPA bill hasn't been made into law.

They were shut down because they were accused of piracy, though.

Hey Sethe!

Are you teaching English in Korea or are you actually a licensed teacher? I was wanting to teach English in Korea through those abroad programs for a year or so and maybe pursue a career in interpretation or something. But I've heard that depending on which company you go through, sometimes you don't even get paid on time.

Do you have any knowledge/advice in that area?

Hi Jennifer!

I am actually teaching in Seoul at the moment, and I certainly could give you advice (although I don't know about all the options available).

If you're seriously interested, I'd be happy to talk to you more,

If I can post an email here, it's: aot531@gmail.com

Otherwise, I'll talk to you more later!

0

P.S. Even if I'm personally ignorant, I have a lot of coworkers who've been around awhile and know a lot about teaching in Korea, so, again, don't hesitate to email me if you're seriously interested :)

0

Thanks! I will deff email you once I decide for sure!

Wait, "my" man? I thought he was "our" man! :)

Yeah, Perry clearly wasn't ready for the, y'know, major leagues. What astonishes me about Gingrich is his amazing talent for hypocrisy. Y'know, in the debates he'll act all offended, and as if it's all due to the media criticizing and persecuting an otherwise innocent and reformed man.

I can forgive infidelity, but I can't forgive jackass-ness and hypocrisy, and in those areas, Newt seems to, as many commentators say, have no shame.

0

I didn't know you were willing to share, lol.

0

I'd rather not share, LOL. Those hairy forearms (SO sexy) and stupid plaid shirts are all for me :)

(Couldn't decide whether some kind of joke about polygamy would've been funny or offensive here... what to do?)

0

Some Mormons would be offended, but we make polygamy jokes all the time, lol.

My BFF's family stayed with us for a month while they transitioned from military to civilian (he was looking for a job). When they left, hubby joked about missing his other wife. While they were here, she and I could tag-team dinner, hauling kids around and laundry and a lot more got done. Hence the start of the "sisterwife" jokes.

We joked about the four of us (BFFs) dressing as "sisterwives" (like the Texan polygamists) for the church Halloween party. But, there are Mormons with no sense of humor, and one of us (Not me, lol) was worried about offending someone.

SO....you can joke about polygamy with me all you want. My gr grandfather was a polygamist, my grandma had 16 brothers and sisters. She had some interesting stories.

0

I thought the sisterwives joke had begun as a reaction to that tv show that has been on for a couple of seasons. I was fascinated by that show! (Not Big Love, which is fiction - the other one on LifeTime or some channel like that.) I can see that there are pluses to their choice but I also see how hard it is for some of the women, what a mixed bag it was - and I'm sorry, I just thought the guy was an ass. It's not that he didn't treat them well or anything, it's just he was pretty full of himself.

hope MU will be back soon...

Currently in New York City, where the temp is 28 degrees Farenheit. Just finished watching a taping of an NBC show at Rockefeller Center, scored a decent Japanese bento-style lunch (loved the eel!), and now getting ready for the Broadway show "Seminar" staring Alan Rickman. Woot!

0

AWESOME. I always say you can sleep when you're dead. Hehe

0

Thanks, guys, just got home about an hour ago. No real problems with the snow, except I have to clean the salt off my leather walking boots.

I'm going to do a quick skim of OT, then sleep, secure in the knowledge of having 1/2 suitcase full of yummy Italian baked goods.

Sadly, my Chinatown search for the final ingredients for the Malaysian dish I was attempting was a failure. No tamarind, no pandan leaves. But I will soldier on!

0

Have you tried a Latino market for the tamarind? They sell it here in California in the Mexican market I used to buy my veggies at. There's a veggie market closer to me now, so I haven't been in awhile, but I could look. And we have a big Asian market near here...not so much Chinese, it's mostly Korean, Thai and Japanese stuff. I could look...

0

Shel - Yep, I tried that on a recommendation, but they didn't have any.

My next chance is to go to Trader Joe's.

After that, I'll have to see if there's a ChiaPet variety where I can grow my own - lol.

0

OH....and you might check amazon.com (of all places)...they carry all kinds of weird groceries you can't find anywhere else. My gluten free sisterwife gets a lot of her stuff from them because it's cheaper than in the store.

Also, there's a website called http://www.efooddepot.com that has a lot of Asian stuff. I haven't ordered from them, but I have a friend in NC who does.

0

Do you need tamarind paste or the pods? Amazon and the efooddepot both have the paste. I'm certain they sell the pods here, but amazon has a package of Thai tamarind pods.

Pandan leaves are tougher, but there is apparently a huge Filipino store in Jersey City.

http://www.philamfood.com/company.html

They carry frozen leaves in their online store, I would imagine they'd have fresh in the store.

0

Hey Shel! You're the best. The recipe calls for a "ping-pong ball" size amount of tamarind pulp, which you then soak in water and squeeze to extract the juice, then use the pulp later on.

Online may be my last hope. I'm pretty sure I don't want to go to New Jersey unless I'm heading for Atlantic City.

According to RHRH, the pandan leaves make everything smell floral-y, so they aren't necessary to the dish.

If I'm successful with this, I'm going to try something easier like Coq Au Vin - lol.

0

You'll have to let us know how it turns out. My husband took a Pacific Rim cooking class one year before we got married and we have a ton of great recipes, several from Malaysia, but we don't have this one.

I should dig that pile of papers out and see if there's one that sounds good for the Lunar New Year. I may attempt something Asian on Tuesday (we have to drive tomorrow night to go get mom in law, so no cooking tomorrow)

0

Happy Friday! And an early Happy Chinese New Year to all Chinese (and Lunar New Year for other Asians)!

Fermentation Family love here!

Man, the ending of episode 12 was heart stopping awesome. I just love the hug that Ho-tae and Kang-san had. Wish his jacket was a bit bigger so it'd sort of be like the coat hug scene in Devil Beside You. But the Chemistry between them still had me chanting (er, more like yelling) "KISS! KISS! KISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS DAMN YOU!" Hahahaha. The way the drama is just teasing us with the coupledom that is to come is as bad as NCIS with Ziva and Tony's sexual tension. Kerfuffle. Can't wait to see episode 13 and 14 for this week. XD

Love this show! I waxed poetical about it on soompi, here's a repeat for those who also love the show:

Some of my favorite things about FF:

- the cinematography is jaw-droppingly beautiful, especially the scenes at Earth and Man and of the father's journey. I love the shot of the lone tree where the mother is buried, with the sun and the mountains in the background, the shots of the restaurant where the pine boughs encircle it like embracing arms, the father sitting all alone in an abandoned courtyard, bars on the windows behind him...I could go on and on.

- the story is interestingly twisty; at this point, I have no idea what happened in Ho Tae's childhood, each piece of information just seems to lead to yet more questions. I like the fact that we are sharing his journey of exploration, and that there are parallel journeys going on - the father is looking for the child he abandoned to get redemption, his daughter is searching for where she belongs as a chef and at her father's restaurant, the other chef is desperately searching for parental approval but at the same time what he sees at the restaurant is opening his eyes to a different set of values and a better way to live life. Even the side characters, like the social worker, are allowed to grow and develop and learn.

- the characters are delightfully realistic. I get annoyed with shows that give us perfect heroes and all-bad villains. Here, our "hero" is a short-tempered ex-gangster with a troubled past and an uncertain future. The "heroine" is also short-tempered, a bit proud, suspicious, and pushy, as well. The evil gangster can literally have someone on their knees in one scene, and then he is figuratively on his knees in the next while he is deep in the throes of his puppy-love. The popular actor is kind and generous but also weak and cowardly. Even the evil corporate kingpin has his moments of kindness. It's much more true-to-life and interesting and involving to have well-rounded characters that are a blend of good traits, bad traits, and a healthy dose of mystery and longing.

I love this drama so much! And the mystery about Ho Tae's childhood is done well enough to keep me anticipating while not overshadowing or taking over the drama. I looooove the scenes where the two sisters would make kimchi outside and then have flashbacks of their younger selves pop up as they're doing so. The music is great in this series too. I love the ending theme!

Love, love Fermentation Family. Just finished watching Ep 13 and 14, Ho Tae's story is now front and centre and I just can't wait for the mystery to unfold. Can next week come sooner?

SIK is really in top form with nuanced portrayal of the tenderness and vulnerability coated beneath that rugged exterior. No offence to SIK fans - it is a revelation to me! PJH is matching up well with her natural performance of that skunky girl. Their relationship is so natural and I love their hugs than the kiss.

And don't get me starting on the food - persimmon kimchi, aubergien kimchi.....

0

Oh epyc! it's ok. I just discovered Song Ilkook during last year's Crime Squad. And his vulnerable exgangster portrayal in F-Fam just continues to win me over heart and soul. *hugs all the F-Fam fans* Glad to know I'm not alone on this one. X)

In an attempt to keep myself busy while waiting to watch The Moon That Embraces the Sun after the whole series has aired, I've gone to sageuk city. I'm watching The Painter of the Wind, which is like Sungkyunkwan's more melodramatic, makjangy cousin--or, in other words, my *dream* drama. (Because, after all, I love makjang.)

Does anyone have any recs for girl-centered, romance-based sageuks? I've only seen SSS and Princess' Man at this point, and loved them both, but am reluctant to watch action-based shows or ones that run for a billion episodes.

I could recommend a few titles, although not all of them are necessarily "good dramas" (LOL), so watch at your own risk. In order of the year it was aired:
Damo
Dae Jang Geum/Jewel in the Palace
Hwang Jin Yi
Princess Ja Myung-go
Dong Yi

For historical J-doramas or Taigas with a female lead, I highly recommend Atsuhime or the 2-episode SP ChouChou-san, both starring the lovely Miyazaki Aoi.

Hope that helped. :)

1. why do koreans turn away when they drink in front of someone such as their boss?

Same answer for 1 and 2. It's a tradition and a mark of respect from youngsters to the elders. Drinking alcohol in a formal korean meeting is almost like a tea ceremony if you do it " properly ".

Happy friday, everyone !

Two things:

1) Kim Soo-hyun oppa : SARANGHAE.
2) Jung Il-woo oppa : SARANGHAE.

When two of your bias appear onscreen for the first time in a good while (at least, in KSH's case) the day you turn 18, it feels GOOD. 'Nugh said.

... Just kidding, this is not enough said. I also need to rant about the glorious quality of Padam Padam - LOVING the feel of the drama, this camera work is impressive, and Jung Woo-sung's performance is GAH. Also, the potential biological son (or not) is amazing, I look forward to seing him in other dramas.
Also, What's Up. Whatsupwhatsupwhatsup. It's been a good while since I last cried for a drama, and the last four episodes got me there. I think the duet song sung by Tae-hee and He-of-the-facial-expressions-who-cannot-sing does help - it is haunting and powerful and pretty much triggers my tears whenever there is a heart-tugging scene. Oh, and Im Joo-hwan ? Loving his character big time.

For those of the OT who know Amos Lee (I KNOW you're here, guys !) I was at his concert last night in Paris. It was an amazing experience. Damn, is he great when singing solo with his guitar. It was possibly the best way to spend my first evening as an adult. Yeah, 'cause I turned 18 just yesterday. Adulthood, HERE I COME (... NOT. Anyone has some spare cotton candy around here ? I need to regress, like, right now.)

Me too, but I wear mostly only Birks, and with a little care and an occasional resoling, they last a long time.

Happy Birthday, Mirabeau! I remember 18.....back in ancient history, lol....it was a good year.

Enjoy being young. The whole "adult" thing is WAAAAAY overrated, lol. Have fun celebrating and best wishes for a great year!

Yeah, I was half-expecting some kind of godly lightning to fall on me yesterday, accompanied by a deep voice saying : "Thou now art an adult ! Be wise ! Make thy family and friends proud !" and all... But nope. Nothing happened. So I guess I'll just stick to being an immature kiddo for the time being, hah.

Thank you, Shel !

I say....GO FOR IT! You're only 18 once. Just don't do anything REALLY stupid that you'll regret when you're my age. Not that you'll know what that is at the time, lol. I could do 18 SO much better with my years of acquired wisdom since then, lol.

0

Huuum. I thiiiiiink getting a tattoo would be considered stupid, wouldn't it ? When I see people whose arms are tattooed in the street, I can't help but imagine how they'll look like as grandpas and grandmas with those. Damn, they'll totally creep the kids out. Still, getting a tattoo has been on my mind for quite some time now so... I guess I'll go for it when I feel ready :)

But yeah, I wish I had an elder's wisdom to pair up with my *cough* youthful body *cough*.

0

OK..have to tell you a story. I don't like the idea of tattoo myself because I can't imagine that I'll have the same opinion of it in 20 years and they're so permanent. I'll just put it on a t-shirt that I can throw/give away when I'm tired of it, lol.

However, my sister's best friend is the tattooed lady. I adore her, she's been such an amazing friend to my dramaqueen baby sister. She showed up at Mom's house one day when I was visiting and had just finished the outline of a huge dragon on her back and wanted to show it off. It was pretty amazing, but my Mom said, "But, Rachel, honey, what's that going to look like when you're 70??" To which Rachel replied , "Oh.....I imagine it'll look kind of like my grandma's tattoo...kind of saggy." Shoulda seen the look on my mom's face! Ha!

0

Hahahaha. "Saggy", LOL. That's to say the least.

But yeah, tatoos are like hairdye (not exactly, but sort of. I get my own point). I use temporary dies that fade within two months of regular shampooing because I'm not terribly enthusiastic about having a permanent, non-natural color stuck on top of my head. So I guess henna's the better option for a tattoo. Kinda real but also kinda temporary.

0

Henna's PERFECT. I have a friend here who is a henna artist. I've let my15 yr old daughter have a couple of those from time to time. They last a couple of weeks, sometimes longer (she's on a swim team so she's in the water alot). And, it's funny how much her taste has changed in the last year. She is younger than you, but not by alot.

0

Tattoo? Aigoo! (Not a big fan of tats on women)

0

And, btw...I'm STILL waiting for the 'godlike voice" to proclaim me an adult.....been waiting for 35 years.

You'll find, that in a lot of ways...other than acquired wisdom and achy joints.....you don't really feel much different at 50.

0

@ John...

My hubby (who is a photographer) and I photographed a wedding for a friend a couple of years ago. There was this absolutely drop-dead could-have-been-a-model gorgeous tall girl, totally rocking this red mini-dress EXCEPT, she was covered in tattoos. Like skulls and bloody fangs tattoos. Hubby told me that it was saddest thing he'd ever seen...."to graffiti up such a perfect bod".

0

I got a tattoo, and I haven't regretted it yet.

See, I was a pretty meek-spirited teenager, so I found my rebellious side later in life ... I got my navel and nose and tragus pierced, all as a kind of warm-up to getting my tattoo.

I ended up getting an ankle bracelet tattoo... covers up easily, probably won't stretch unfavorably, and isn't considered slutty or trashy in any group I know of.

What a rebel I am, right? :)

0

That's nifty, Sethe!

I can't get a nose- or eyebrow piercing because of my job, and I have to add another one because of a significant life event (that's how I got the 5 ear piercings I have), so the tragus sounds like an option. Do you use a ring or a barbell in it?

My tattoo location of choice is the right shoulder. It was either a tattoo or satellite radio in Attila for my birthday this year.

0

Aw. Shel-omma~ haha.

I'll check out the greatness of henna, then ! Thank you for the advices !

I turn 20 in a few months but I gotta say that my year was when I was 18. I had the most fun, right before I enter college. Bun that aside, college life means you can drink, but always drink moderately.
Don't drink alone, esp. if you plan on getting hammered.

so, i'd say enjoy your day and pop some bottles!

I'm in a Foundation course right now and I have SO MUCH work I barely have time to enjoy myself these days - and the little leisure times I have get wasted on the few dramas I have enough time/will to follow. But, yeah, as soon as this school year is over, I'm def going to enjoy my youthful life with my buddies :)

My mom has CARPET in her kitchen (yes, you heard it right)....so if we're standing around "snacking", we'd better be hanging over the sink, or we get whapped. Or she makes us vacuum the house. Hubby has a habit of standing with his back against the counter eating his toast....not a huge deal in my kitchen since I can just sweep it up (or make him do it). But he learned pretty quick not to do that in mom's kitchen, lol.

Required fields are marked *

Carpet in the kitchen? That would be extremely hard to keep clean, and what about grease?

When I bought my house, there was pink shag in every room including the bathrooms. I installed light gray one-inch tile in both, and red oak engineered flooring in the bedrooms, halls, and dining room. The kitchen had 4 layers of rubber tile and linoleum, and I just let it be.

Then the sink sprung a leak, which destroyed the wood in the dining room, so I put in 12' beige ceramic in both the kitchen and the dining room. I also put in a tile walkway from the front door to the rest of the house. That made it easy to clean, even if you brought mud into the house.

I've got industrial kitchen mats in front of the stove. That way you can take them outside and scrub them. I use a giant brush like you'd use to wash a car.

Still, carpet. That just doesn't seem practical in the kitchen. Doesn't it trap odors and stuff too?

Happy OT everyone! Olen Maniya guys!

I must say was really shocked this morning when i read about the MU shutdown since i had just downloaded a night before that. :(

Sooooooooo addicted with The Moon That Embraces The Sun! Whoa, they were even able to break the 30% rating threshold... and that's just episode 6 this week.

My heart skipped a beat when Kim Soo Hyun appreared, gah, i am very vocal that i took on this drama because of him... but in fairness, the drama, its story, the cast, especially the child actors, are awesome. Who can also resist the very colorful and vivid. Another plus for MoonSun is that Blue from Electric Ground is translating/summarizing the book. Likewise Softy of Cadence (soulsrebel.wordpress.com) is transcapping MoonSun. I can;t get enough reading the recaps from Softy's to here to AKP. and I have been bawling so much because of this drama. Yeo Jin Guk and Kim Yoo Jung are super amazing child actors as well as Lee Min Ho. Everything seems perfect with MoonSun, from the story, cast and ost... the editing tho, sometimes leave some error just like at one time, a certain passerby or cast is visible when yeom was about to ride a horse.

Still loving Ojakgyo Brothers and we only have 10 episodes left to wrap up loose ends of the drama;s story. Will surely miss this really EPIC drama, made me stream and watch without subs, but thanks to Softy, i can understand it.

Ugh, not much Jinhee this week either, why do they have to torture us with that story line. That girl is awesome. And Yoon Kye Sang is adorable. In fact I like everyone in that show. They are all so human!

In other news, saw the last two running man, and the killer specials + IU has become my favourite. Macho man Kim sung Soo singing along with IU is adorable. Not to mention Joo Sang wook's adorkableness. And Gwangsoo + Chunhee Combo. And Ji Jinhee being the mob boss. I love Running man, and these ahjusshis together!!

I've not watched the latest eps of What's Up yet but they're on my to watch list for later! I can't wait :)
I watched the first episode of Take Care of Us, Captain yesterday and I wasn't really that impressed. I actually really like Gu Hye Sun even though she's not exactly the best actress. Her character in TC annoyed me quite a bit and it doesn't help that the show's not very well written (I don't usually comment on things like that but the first ep just frustrated me so much!) so I don't think I'll be sticking with the show.

Good morning, all!

Fast week - here we are back on the OT.
If y'all haven't read the Seung-gi post, take a minute - it's hilarious with the rabid fangirl response. GF stepped in with a warning and an abs pic to calm down (and mesmerize) the mob. Who knew that Puppy would elicit such a response?!

Anyone watching Batchelor's Vegtable Store? Having accepted my initial disappointment over the in-my-head-they're-all-cavorting-in-a-field-wet-and-half-dressed storyline, I'm enjoying it. The melo evil mommy stuff is rather heavy-handed, but the story is funny and sweet and touching.

Wild Romance just continues to skip along, delighting me with every episode. The plot has big chunks of serious (crazed, killer fan stuff - is it the aunt?!) and the dawning realization of our leading lady's attraction to Wookie is charmingly hilarious - and his character becomes less one-dimensional and more humanistic, week after week. I'm truly enjoying every minute of WR.

And then there's A Thousand Kisses. What can I say? Except - shoot me now, please. And then shoot this drama. Put us BOTH out of our relative misery. Thanks.
:)

Maybe it's because no matter how rotten we think our lives are...theirs are worse so it makes us feel better?? As in, "it's been a sucky week but at least my mother in law isn't my mother! and my bitchy ex isn't stalking me! and no one's bilked me out of $20K!, and my father in law isn't trying to get me to divorce my hubby!, and my baby sister isn't spoiled like Soo ah".....oh wait, strike that last one, lol.

0

If i were an actor of this show, i would pray to break my leg ( ok, i'm not wishing for this, they suffer enough ) so i could leave this Titanic. Or go til the end playing a comatose character : Eyes closed, plugs in my ears. Wake me up when it's over.

0

Actually, the Hye Bin storyline is the only thing I'm finding funny (in a NICE sense) in ATK. Her expressions just kill me when talking about her 'height' issues about him- and he's like a chihuahua with a big-dog mentality. It's like there's a different writer in charge of writing for these two. Which, now that I think about it, may be true.

0

I'M happy. I'm thrilled because I am no longer watching this horrible show, I am just enjoying everyone else's rants about it ("Yuck-skank"! "A Thousand Kicks"!). The miscarriage is what did me in - anyone who writes about such a thing in such a cavalier, clumsy manner is both the world's worst writer and official possessor of a heart of stone.

We need to celebrate when this nasty tale is finally ended, most likely laid in a lead-lined coffin with a wooden stake through through its wizened little heart. It is the Wicked Witch of the West of 50-ep dramas, only without the witch's eloquence.

0

Preach! What the heck is up with ATK? I had to stop watching for awhile. I just want to wait until everyone gets happy again, really. Except for WooBin's crazy ex.

I hope you are able to shake off the crabs that are pinching at you and regain your usual self.

0

MJP,

I worry about your sleep schedule. Are you getting enough sleep my dear? Hope you got some good rest. I try to go to bed early on the weekdays because I have an early start in the mornings. But the weekends is when I stay awake as much as possible. XD

0

Ani,

OOOOOOHHHHH I just want to hug you for being so sweet and caring. I have to stay up at least until 2 a.m. to make sure Wee MJP gets his middle of the night squirts out or else he urninates in the bed. :-) So once that is done then I can go to bed unless I am otherwise entertained. But I did get 8 hours of sleep.

0

MJP,

That's good. I figured your lack of sleep stems from being a mom - since I remember you were talking on the other OTP about taking mini-MJP to school after a night of marathoning a t-drama. Hahaha. Well 8 hours is good considering too much sleep is just as bad as too little sleep. I had to raise my 5 younger sisters - I try not to think about mom and dad's prowess in the bedroom XP - so I instantly turn on the big sis mode without thinking. But that also means there are no kids in my future unless they are adopted and are 8+ years old. Hahaha. *whispers* But I have a pretty mean streak too. Heh.

MJP fighting! Mothers of the World fighting! Dad's of the World fighting! Older siblings of the World fighting! XD

I don't know if she's in 'cahoots', but she's coming across as a rather odd personality. And, is she really his aunt or is he just calling her 'aunt' (like ahjumma) - a respectful address? And I'm also kinda suspecting his BFF - there must be loads of resentment there, especially now that he's voluntarily taken a manager's job.

I'm super curious as to what that kid whispered to Wookie just before the Wook beat the crap out of him.

I also agree about not tampering with LSY's look with some kind of make-over, although I would image they'll have a scene where Eun-jae wants to show Wookie that she CAN be girly - just hope that it holds to the flavor of the rom/com and comes off as hilarious.

Yeah! What did the kid whisper to Mu Yeol to make him beat the crap out of him? I know Mu Yeol said that if it was about him, he wouldn't have beat the kid up, so apparently he said something about someone he cares about. Must be someone from his past because when Mu Yeol when to visit the kid at the hospital he asked him, how did you know that name? I'm guessing that the stalker person somehow told the kid to whisper something bad about that particular person. Why else would the kid have the picture of Mu Yeol with his eyes scratched out? Like that actress -- she said she received that picture of Mu Yeol two days before they met at the hotel. Manager Kim also said that the stalker person is using other people to do his/her dirty work.

As for the aunt...I don't think she's really his aunt. He said in ep 6 that she had been with him for 10 years, and Eun Jae was impressed that someone would be so dedicated and generous to stay with Mu Yeol that long. Makes her sound more like an employee who turned into a family friend.

I don't know what's up with Dong Soo. Right now I don't think he would hurt Mu Yeol, but I can see how he could harbor resentment.

I like the idea of Eun Jae trying to be more womanly in a funny way. I also am a little bummed that Eun Jae seems to be attracted to Mu Yeol first and not the other way around. He doesn't see her as a woman yet. He just thinks she's weird for acting more strangely than she does as of late. What I would like to see happen (only in my kdrama dreams) is for him to protect her somehow -- not so much in the bodyguard way, but maybe defend her honor or something like that. He seems to be so protective of the people he cares about -- to the point of being angry/violent even. It would be natural for him to develop those protective feelings for Eun Jae eventually, especially since they seem to be getting more comfortable with each other.

Ah, if only Wednesday would get here faster...

Good comment.
I'm wondering who the 'first love' was for Wookie, and if the kid said something about her to provoke him? He practically went into a fetal position when he discovered his necklace was gone. I think something big is cooking in that area.
And by the way - who in the heck is that bar kid Wookie beat up?! He looks so familiar and I just can't place him.
Anyone know?

0

I'm pretty sure that in Korean, people use the word 'imo' (aunt) for housekeepers as well. I heard it used in another drama in this context. So that would explain Eun Jae being impressed that one housekeeper would work for 10 years in one house.

The guy who got beaten up by Wookie must be related to the housekeeper, probably her son, because when Reporter Go went to visit the granny, we never got to hear what happened to the kid's mother. Also, it would explain how the kid knew exactly where Wookie would be that night and what would rile him up.

Also, I'm betting the name the kid whispered to Wookie was his past love's, because I can't see him getting riled up about any other character that we haven't been introduced to yet that way.

And about Reporter Go's scar...I'm fairly certain Mu-yeol was the kid in the story about how he got the scar. Otherwise, what else could make the reporter resent him so much?

0

mems~
You had me right up until your last theory. Don't think that Wookie could have been the kid on the bike, only because I don't see much of an age difference between the two of them. They come off (to me) as contemporaries.

Did BarBoy ring any bells with you? It's gonna drive me nuts trying to place him in whichever drama I saw him in...
:)

0

BTW @Cynthia..."BarBoy" in episode 6 is Hong Jong Hyun. I found the info on Soompi forums.

0

Big, smoochie kisses to you!!

Omg - no wonder I recognized his face - he was in WBDS and A Frozen Flower! Just couldn't place him. Thank you!

I also wonder if Mu Yeol may have something to do with Reporter Go's scar - Reporter Go just keeps gunning for him!

I'm loving Wild Romance right now. The first 3.5 episodes were pretty blah and I didn't care much about what happen to any of the characters. But after the fight and seeing the expressions on the characters' faces, a connection sparked and then it became my drama crack.

I'm wishing for a mini-recap of Wild Romance as this show is crazy enough for rant about.

Manager Kim looks extraordinarily clean & delightful with a pair of glasses and Mu Yeol is warming up to Eun Jae like a baseball buddy.

Aunt is getting creepier by episodes and no matter how many times I've seen the pix with dotted eyes, I still get freaked up.

And Eun Jae's hair - It's really out of the world...and I think it brings out her character even more.

Happy Friday!!! and Early Chinese New Year!!!!

Been sick with a cold... so I did manage to catch up with some kdrama.. marathoned the first 5 ep of The Moon embraced the Sun... on man.. i cried so hard on ep 5.. the child/teen actors/actress are amazing.. sad to say goodbye to them... it's kind of remind me the time when I watch the first few episode of CYHMY and i loved those child actors so much that I would like them to stay a few more episode.. but then when the adult casts came in.. I was totally loving it.. so I would imaging the same for the Moon embraced the Sun... so can't wait for ep 6 with eng sub.. so i can see JIW and KSH..

I am loving Padam Padam... such a beautiful drama.. solid acting, writing and directing.. i always love Jung Woo Sung and thought he is a great actor... his padam padam performance is beyond solid... and kim bum... he has definitely grown in terms of his acting and his physical... honestly.. who doesn't want a guiding angel looks like KB.

also loving kimchi family.. it's slow at time... but it grows on you... it's nice family type of drama...

What's up is great.. loving it.. loving the OST as well.. the acting is sort all over the board.. but Im Joo Hwan and Oh man Suk are excellent.. OMS is my favorite along.. not to mention the red track suit dude.. is funny..

oh Brain... waiting for the last ep in eng sub... the last couple mins of brain.. love love love...

and I also has been in j-dorama kick lately... marathoned Bloody Mondy 1 and 2... surprisingly addicting...

Take care of us captain, wild romance, history of salesman, B. vege store.... i have heard about them but have not start watching... anyone has suggestion which one to watch if you have to pick one?

have a good weekend!!!!!!

I'd have to go with Wild Romance. It's a hoot. But, I don't know what your kdrama preferences are soooo.... You'd have to be someone who likes tomboy heroines who are badass and makes mistakes, the way the hotheaded hero is just as flawed. But man, it's a Wild Ride. I mean Wild Romance. Hahaha. Fermentation/Kimchi Family is totally opposite from Wild Romance in humor/genre, but they are equally heartwarming, because I've fallen in love with the characters in Wild Romance especially that I know more about their past and why they are the way they are. Is it crazy that I love Lee Dong Wook's assholery in this show? He even has a douche-stache (I saw that term somewhere on this site), and he is SO working it! I even love Lee Shi Young's ajumma haircut. It works with her character, whether she's being ridiculous or not. I am still looking forward to finding out who Mu Yeol's stalker/hater is, and I am looking forward to Mu Yeol falling in love with Eun Jae, especially because she already sorta kinda likes him (at least by ep 6). Also, is Soo Young ever going to tell Dong Soo about her pregnancy (even though he sorta knows about it already)? So many questions...

Me too!!! Loving Wild Romance. The song there is very beautiful ( not the Jessica one) ! Just wish he fell for her first though not the other way around.

I love the Douche-stache. This is probably the first time I have actually liked Lee Dongwook. I've never thought him hot until he grew some facial hair and got a temper to boot - with a heart so heartbreakingly vulnerable.

Eunjae + Mu Yeol = WINNING!

0

like, like, LIKE! Everything is working. The haircut, the LDW assholery, the Douche-stache, the Seagulls, everything! I have a suspicion as to who the stalker is, but I have to get past the next few episodes to be sure.

It's a shame there's only 4 episodes up on Drama Fever :'(

0

Viki is a few eps ahead - do you get it where you are?

0

Thank you Cynthia! I didn't know Viki was doing subs for this. They're up to episode six. This is MUCH appreciated.

0

Since I have nothing better to do, I decided to rant here.
(no really, it's just that I want to)

I'm planning to watch the early episodes of Moon/Sun since the ratings just wouldn't shut up showcasing how good it is. And besides. It has Jung Il-Woo in it. Nuff said.

On the side note, I'm just done poisoning my fellow dorm-mate slash neighbor to watch the princess' man. I managed to watch the first few episodes alongside her and now I seem to be suffering from the same park shi hoo's-mane-of-glory-withdrawal-syndrome a.k.a PSHMOGWS (man that's a mouthful) that I've just recovered from not so long ago.
Oh, well, hello there, marathon and endless youtube streaming of fanmade MVs and BTS.

And Happy Chinese New Year for everyone! How are you guys going to spend it? I myself am going to make the most (money) out of it since after the CNY break, I've got a long list of papers and tasks to do.
(To all high schoolers out there : use your time well, kid. once you get into uni, you get into this spiral doom of never ending misery a.k.a papers, tasks, and quizzes). and the second year is just much worse.

Oh, and can I ask a question? Is Tree With Deep Roots really that good? People can't seem to stop clamoring how good it is and they just wouldn't shut up. I've downloaded the first 11, or 12? episodes but still can't decide whether to watch it or not. If anyone would be so kind to explain why should I watch it, it'd be grandly appreciated.

Tree With Deep Roots really is that good. The material has great depth and the actors more than live up to it, they make it soar. You really care about the characters, their choices and the consequences, and the world they are in and that they're trying to change. Plus, it's got slam bang action and an understated but heartfelt romance. It's really one of the finest series I've watched.

I agree that Han Seok Kyu was totally amazing, but for my money, Jang Hyuk was right there with him. The absolute best scenes of the series were the ones focused on the two of them, and of course Song Joong Ki as younger Sejong was also incredible. I'd say watch it!

Finally finished listening to the whole thing this morning. I really wish you ladies could hook us up with these things on a daily basis (weekly basis?? *hopeful plea*) because you're all hilarious. It's like the perfect thing to wake up to and listen to while gettting ready for school or on a long bus ride. I totally did a podcast marathon when I went on a bus tour to NYC, and laughed like a lunatic and garnered weird stares on the bus when girlfriday was bargaining her soul for Lee Min-ho time. Anyway, as always I love the song choices. And I was always curious about how javabeans got her music. Speaking of which, what's the hangkuk wording for the Loveholic "Life of a Liverpool Kid"? I'm trying to look for it to dl but I'm not getting anything. In drama related news, I'm picking up MiSa again after a year of hiatus. I'm now at ep 10. It's kind of wormed its way into my heart. The whole brother-mother things kinda icky, but I adore it when Moo-hyuk and Eun-chae are together. I'm going to get ready and stock up on tissue paper for the ending.I'm excited for Kim Soo-hyun's appearance in Moon/Sun. I honestly started this drama just for him. I tend to stay away from melodramas and sageuks, but after having marathoned Dream High just 2 weeks ago, I need my Kim Soo-hyun fix. I hope he sings in this=)I can wait for Dream High 2 because it kind of seems to jazzed up, but I do like Kang Sora because she was in Sunny, so I'll catch the first few eps. But I can't wait for Flower Boy Bands!!! Lee Min Ki!!!! Also, how can I say no to underdog rocker boys? Cable TV really know their audience well.

Surprise! I'm getting ready for a new teen from Korea to come live with us. I spent my usual OT time responding to an email he sent me. We traded specs. so we know how to find each other.

LOL! His last response was at 2:32 a.m. Korea time. He, his mom, and his sister were up watching Secret Garden!!!! At 2:32 a.m. LOL!!!! And he's going to be going to the airport soon to fly here. I guess he figures he'll be sleeping on the plane.

So here I am, dealing with clogged drain pipes and plumbers trying to get everything ready as much as possible. I'm currently ironing his bed skirt, which is taking forever!!! It doesn't help when I stop to type. :-)

What are you doing?

ahjummabunny Love,

This young man cooks, cleans, does laundry, likes to spend time with his family, and emails people to get to know them! Wahoo!

Cynthia,

Yes, we were approached to house students for varying timeframes. And yes, this time around we reviewed the applicants files and chose the one we and the agency agreed would be the best fit for our family, it wasn't an urgent need situation as it was with the 6 prior student candidates, of which we only housed 1.

0

So, cool! We have a Korean family at church...the guy's been here awhile, but he just married a girl who came here to marry him. Unclear on how well he knew her before she came here. She's very shy, so she's been kind of hard to get to know, but she seems very sweet. My friend's Korean mom has kind of latched on to her so she doesn't feel too out of place.

It sounds like this will go much better than the last one. Yay for you!

Hey! How did that mystery pain thing go?

0

I apparently have a "mucinous cystodonoma" (may be spelled wrong....hubby calls it a "mucinex sistamonica", lol) on an ovary. Anyway, it's huge....like a softball or a little bigger. My gyn is pretty confident that it's just a cyst and not something nastier, but there's really no way to know for sure until they get it out. So, on the 8th of Feb, they're taking it out, along with the offending ovary and the rest of the related "plumbing". She's saying 6 to 8 week recovery time. Sounds like lots of drama-watching time to me (once I get past the I only wanna sleep because it hurts part)

0

Shel,

Glad to hear they know what it is, but bummer on the surgery and recovery part. Are you sure you are not trying to relive the Kdrama "What's Up Fox?" if you haven't saw it yet, it's a perfect fit for your recovery time with Kdrama watching.

A friend of mine also has a mother with memory loss issues. She's met me for the "first time" at every birthday party for my friends family members. It makes me think of the movie "50 First Dates" with Drew Barrymore. Does "Mom" usually live with someone else?

Also, since you have so much time for recovery, try that Thai drama over at Viki.com "Roy Marn - 2011" very long episodes. It took me a bit to stop dissecting the sound of the language (sounds like a mix of Hindi/Mandarin), but I finally stopped after the second episode.

0

Aw, Shel, sorry you have to go through all that, but I'm happy it isn't as bad as it could be.

MJP....Mom usually lives with my sister in law about three hours away. Once upon a time, most of the family lived there, but now it's just SIL and MIL, so she really has very little help with Mom. It's funny, because she can still take care of her own basic needs, we don't have to bathe her or anything like that. But, it's still really exhausting because you kind of have to watch her like a hawk so she doesn't decide to cook something and leave the burner on and wander away, or take her medications twice, or stuff like that. And, apparently now, she gets confused as to what time of day it is. Woke SIL and her hubby up at 2 am one night, all dressed for church, asking why wasn't somebody getting up to take her, lol.

SIL is in the process of selling their business (retirement time anyway) and moving to another state where there are several of hubbies sibs and countless sweet nieces who are willing to help. SIL won't let anyone else take Mom full-time because she promised Dad when he died that she'd look after Mom and she takes that very seriously. Hubby will miss having his mom close, but it's really going to make life so much better for SIL. We're too far away to help out very often and it's harder for me because I have a kid that I have to haul around to assorted functions. SIL's an empty nester.

I think I may venture into Thai dramas...I'm used to the language, I had several Thai roomies in college. My first college roomie was a Chinese girl, who introduced me to a Thai girl, who introduced me to another Thai girl, and then a couple of Japanese, another Chinese and one Korean. All over about five years. The Thais were the most social...had friends over and cooked together a lot. I loved them. I'm still in touch with one who lives in Bangkok, and I sure wish I could find the other one.

0

Shel,

I had a friend whose mother had alzheimer's and even though I didn't live with the situation, I was able to see the deterioration. Removing the nobs on the burners, putting baby safety gear on all the doors so she wouldn't wander outside. She didn't want to put her in a nursing home so my friend quit her job to take care of her mom.

It turned out that she took care of her mother and down syndrome sister and mentally handicapped aunt. By the time they all had passed on 15 years had gone by.

It was rough for my friend because she developed a phobia of leaving the house because she became too cut off from friends being so house bound.

I've lost contact with her, but I did see her two years ago at a mutual friends anniversary party and she seemed to be doing much better at getting out and fighting the phobia.

What I'm trying to say is that I agree it's best for SIL to move closer to relatives to share the burden. One person is not meant to handle life's "stuff." We need each other!

0

Shel, here's to an uneventful surgery and a speedy recovery :) I'm guessing the sister wives will help as before and I'm happy you have that blessing.

0

I am blessed. The sisterswives and hubbies came over the night we found the unidentified "mass" and hosted a naming party:

Cyster Act
Massapotamia
Kid Cyster
and the winner:

Exorcyst.

There were lots of others....we laughed a lot....and I felt much better about the whole thing.

Thanks for your good wishes, JoAnne, MJP, Ricky ...I'm sure that, while it won't be fun, it'll all be OK.

Those off color jokes kept me visiting the OT weekly.

Chartruese!! That's my off color. I mean, be yellow or green and make up your darn mind...

Just doing a final check of OT before shutting down for the night. Great day in New York City, but it's supposed to snow / sleet / rain tomorrow, so we're a bit worried about traveling back to Virginia. Wish me luck!

Today's meals were Japanese broiled eel for lunch at Aoki on West 48th St, and crispy fried duck in tamarind sauce at Pongsri Thai Restaurant off of Broadway (in honor of you, Rickie!).

@ MJP - got into a discussion with my Thai waitress. She like Hello Stranger better than Crazy Little Thing Called Love, and hasn't watched Roy Marn. I greeted her like the series though, so I think she was secretly laughing at the round-eye ahjumma and her "sawatee"...

Tomorrow is Little Italy and Chinatown before heading home.

I'm present!
I was just too exhausted to participate last night (or during the day for you, MJP).

Awww, no fan-fic today? Darn, you!
No biggie, seriously. I'll wait.

Oh my goodness! You watched episode 8 of Roy Marn?
That 'Big Mark' scene was hilaaaaaaarious! I watched it without subs at first so I thought that he was merely gesturing at the color of his boxers (fluorescent green, really? REALLY?). When I did watch it with subs, I finally understood. And it killed me!
Nothing says wedding night than having your contract wife holding garden shears and threatening to turn you into a girl. LOL :D

I suspect I'll have lots of time in a month or so, so I have the Thai movies bookmarked for then, In the meantime, RL is kind of sucky time-wise at the moment. And otherwise, too, actually, lol. But, this, too, shall pass. Eventually.

I always found the eyebrow moving thing fascinating, cuz I can't do that at all. My dad can though. When I was a little girl, my daddy was a clerk at church and my mom was the organist. Dad had to sit up near the pulpit and me and my two next sibs sat on the front pew in front of him where he could keep an eye on us. He could totally control us, just with a look...and one raised eyebrow, lol. I was a teenager before I figured out that Dad was the easy parent....that eyebrow thing was just too intimidating. :0)

@ Rickie! Welcome back the land of the living; it' always sunnier when you're with us.

Roy Marn was, in the end, a cute rom-com. I totally wanted to knock May upside the head on more than on occasion, and for me personally, a guy in uniform is HOT. So Sunny wins hands down. Still, once Bee calmed down a bit from her manic behavior of the first group of episodes, it got a lot better. For the early eps, I kept thinking: for a culture who prides themselves on family reputation, there is no way in the world they would tolerate Bee's behavior. No. Stinking. Way.

Thanks, Ricky...I'm sure it won't be fun, and it's messing with our trip to see a favorite kid of mine get married. But, life goes on, and the plan is to feel "much more better" as my daughter used to say, when it's all over.

Ricky TRH!!!!!!!! *Squeals, runs and envelops in a Bear HUG*

Smart man to get some sleep when tired. How is the Royal Family?

I have random questions:

Have you ever been outside in the midst of a snow fall? I have never been outside in the midst of a monsoon. It's snowing right now here. But it's supposed to get into the 40's for the next two days which will melt all that snow. It's been unseasonably warm here for the most part and as soon as it snows, it gets warm again and melts all the snow.

Do you ever go crazy with all the rain? I was reading that basically there are only two good months a year to visit your country. And depending on what area is visited is what months to go because this side gets hit with monsoon A and that side gets hit with monsoon b and the other side well they just get hit with everthing so they only have one good month of weather a year.

Is your house built in the style of the longhouse? I just saw some pictures and it seems absolutely gorgeous there. Reminds me of pictures I had seen in the past of the Incas and the Mayans.

What is your absolute favorite, must be modern, Thai drama?

Is it too late to post a reply? Hmm..

Unfortunately I've never touched real snow before. But questions about the rain? I can handle that. It actually doesn't rain that much where I live. It pours on May-June and Nov-Dec. My place doesn't really get affected by monsoon A and B. However my school does. So it rains almost daily every late afternoon. Yeah, I grumble but I have come to accept and embrace the rain. If it doesn't rain, it will be scorching hot. So it's a relieving respite from the heat. I much prefer the cold, really.

Ahh, longhouses! I've ever seen a real one actually. Alas, my house is purely brick, concrete, metal and mortar. Longhouses are more common in a different state, I think.

I have only watched two Thai lakorns. The previous one was Freshie High School. I think I loved it. It was maybe 5 years ago so Ican't remember much.

Happy Friday Everyone!! I am trying to stay positive right now, but having a hard time as MY INTERNET (SOB) WENT OUT last night in the middle of a episode of Couple or Trouble. (Han Yeseul is totally killing that role by the way!). And comcast will not be out to look at TILL SUNDAY EVENING (GASP/SOB!). This basically ruins my weekend plans of catching up on History of a Salary Man (Jung Gyu Woon! sigh) and finally starting Dream High in addition to finishing CoT. What is a drama addict to do!?!!!? Sigh I guess I can finally catch up on Vampire Diaries. But seriously whats the use of the weekend if you can't marathon dramas!!!

Happy OT Everyone! Happy Soo-hyun smile on DB homepage :D:D

So I'm watching How to Be a Perfect Neighbor and I think PSH is so adorable...but...I do have weak spot for PSH as a few of you know...Did you see the new twitter photos?

I LOVE PADAM PADAM! I'm only on episode 9 cause it takes me forever to get through everything, but OMG so amazing. I'm also only on episode 4 of my recaps....guh...but I'm almost done recapping Pasta so THAT's good. I have 3 more episodes! w00t!

Anyway, this week has been a tad lazy for me. which is nice because I'm usually Go! Go! Go!

What do you guys think of this whole PIPA/SOPA thing?

Is how to meet a perfect neighbor good? i kind of wanted to watch it just because he's in it, but it's so outdated that i'm not sure if he's as good as he is on his recent dramas.

The SOPA thing is really a nuisance. Someone should really get Kira to write that old guy's name on the death note. (too much 9gag browsing)

LOVE PSH - My first true drama love! I did watch How to be a perfect neighbor and it was ok, PSH did a good job acting i thought and I can see why they had him get the girl.

Wow to those pictures! Why so hot PSH?!

Love PSH. But I hate office dramas, so I just watched Queen of Reversals from around episode 14 on, when the story shifted to focus more on his character. I don't feel like I missed anything!

I hope PSH is in another good drama soon where he's hopelessly in love with someone. Also, sword fights, or the modern day equivalent, are welcome ;-).

Hello my OT peeps!

Got into New York City 0600 EST (it's currently 1245 here), manage to get on Good Morning America (waving like a fool, of course!), scored tickets to this afternoon's taping of Dr Oz.

Already have tickets for "Seminar" tonight, and got our hotel room early. Woot!

For Cynthia, JoAnne and Whimseyful, watched the first three episodes of "White Christmas" on the way up, and it's really really good so far! Also read about 25% of "Mockingjay", and not as good by far.

I hope everyone is healthy and safe on this Friday. Take care!

Is Dr. Oz that show that gives people medical advice with that cute guy doc? I don't have cable anymore due to a broken tv and hadn't watched the show very often so I can remember anymore.

And Cynthia your idea is NOT overindulging at all! hehe maybe she can mouth "I LOVE K-DRAMAS!" instead.

Hope you had a good time Shuk!!!

I should have thought about holding up a sign that says "K-Dramas Rock! http://www.dramabeans.com". Ah, next time, I'll need to remember that...

The taping was good "99 Tasty Diet Foods" and "Jeans That Make You Look 10 Pounds Lighter". It sure wasn't Oprah, though, only got a coupon or a free low-fat burrito.

LOL

PS Has anyone seen Rickie? I didn't see any postings, although admittedly I'm flying through them as I'm putting on my makeup.

I like Lee Soo Hyuk's character Yoon Soo. For some reason, I always identify with the Cuckoo Cloudlander.

I also think Mad Mi Reu's pretty cool. It takes a strong man to have hair the color of red licorice...

Just finished episode 5 on the trip back. I was distracted trying to figure out what other shows the actors have been in.

Hello everybody! Happy OT.

Has anyone watched Boku to Star no 99 Nichi? Kim Tae Hee and Taecyeon are in it. It's good so far even though their acting isn't the greatest and sometimes seems noobish compared to their Japanese costars. It's a fun watch and the music is awesome. Only 10 episodes.

FINALLY watched Sunny! I cried, laughed, and than cried some more. So good. Got the song stuck in my head though but I only knew the one word! Argh. Hate when that happens.

adorable Kim Tae Hee and Hottie Taecyeon?! I'm in!

Though their acting aren't the best, I don't think they're that bad. Japanese dramas do have a different style than Korean dramas so maybe the discrepancies were due to that rather than their acting?

I hope....**Crosses fingers**

I wasn't impressed (that's the polite way to say it).

I didn't think it was possible for a couple to have LESS than zero chemistry. I don't think it's the language barrier, Kim Tae Hee is actually doing a great job with the Japanese and trying to carry the emotion, but she's getting no reaction from Nishijima. His reactions are always irrationally rude - way beyond the "antisocial guy" standard. I've never liked him in anything else, though.
Big casting mistake.

Also a waste of Kaname Jun. Why is the hottest guy on the cast playing the bad-guy reporter?
Oh, second hottest guy - I forget about Taecyeon when his character has no narrative purpose. But he does work in a construction site from the middle of the drama onwards, and THAT is a reason to watch.

Hey y'all!

Anybody-else watching Color of a Woman? I really like the actors though the script is meh and the character for the BF of Sora is pretty much the worst friend in the world. CO(a)W made me remember Jae Hee and watch 3-Iron and Witch Yoo Hee again and also some of Delightful Girl Choon Hyang (with Uhm Tae Woong! OMG!)-the former oh so much better than the latter 2 and way more watchable than CO(a)W. Happy for that.

As always following the Ojak Bros and History of a Salaryman.

Watching Wild Romance and The Moon Embraces the Sun. And 1N2D:)

Also caught Sorry I'm Late (with actor Yoon Joo Sang) which was a major tear jerker.

P.S. See a subbed episode of Vampire Idol is out. Anybody been there?

P.P.S. Anybody hoping for a celeb video shout out to the Dramabean Dream Team for the 5th Anniversary? Wouldn't that be awesome!

Hiya ahjummabunny.

Jin Joo (the BF) in CO(a)W is not totally wacko like In Hee from Personal Taste. However, she wears Sora's clothes, is all over Sora's guy, and is a slob/leech. If she was a sister I could probably live with it-can't choose your family and all that-but she is supposed to be a BF and the script writers don't give her many redeeming features for me to sympathize with her. Though I must say Sora is a total enabler/walk-over and pi**es me off because of that.

I agree. Jin Joo is not as bad as In Hee from PT but I think it is only because she does it with a smile while In Hee did her stuff with a sneer. I was thankful that I found someone who is recapping it as now that viki is no longer subbing, I am not sure who is. It has been on #9 subbed for a while.

I was just thinking about in hee marrying son ye jin's boyfriend. I'm waiting to start everything. I remember how great Tree was and how upset I would've been if I hadn't waited until episode 12 to start watching it.

0

Oh, who is recapping? I've found one person, but they are stuck at ep 9, and I have a feeling that it's about to (finally) get really interesting...

0

I had to stop watching Color of Woman for awhile because I could only get it with English subtitles up to ep 9, and I know there's 14 out now. JinJoo is not a good friend to SoRa, but SoRa puts up with her. What is up with SoRa's boyfriend? JunSoo, right? I forget his name. He needs to step up before ChanJin takes her away! ChanJin is so into SoRa and he would treat her better, I think, but we'll see. When the rest of the episodes get subbed, then I will definitely watch again.

I have to say that I do like the side characters on CoW -- the conniving lady director (forgot her name), Secretary Nam and Secretary Oh and their secret marriage, and the two marketing managers who are trying to hide their romance, and everyone else. I had hoped to see a little more from Jason/Lee Hyun Jae. I hope he does better in Shut Up: Flower Boy band. At least he gets to play drums in CoW. ;-)

"An Entertaining Cup of Morning Tea" is doing recaps for Color of Woman. She normally completes them by the next morning after episode has aired. That is how I am getting my CoW fix because the subbing has grounded to a stop since viki took it off their site.

I watched "Shining Inheritance". It wasn't bad, especially the female actors, but I was very disappointed in LSG.

The argument goes either way: wooden performance or two-dimensional character, I could never sympathize nor feel like I was invested in his story line.

With his new fictionalshow filming soon, I hope we'll see some of the animation and expressions he does with his variety series.

No matter how many A-list actors and/or unlimited resources flush to fund into a movie, if the "alien" is stupid then the whole movie sinks to the abyss.

What do I know, see for yourself... maybe I'm just jaded by the CG evolution of Avatar and Transformers that this film is way below par for my entertainment needs.

Where did this movie tank? Lack of suspense. Alien and/or Predator are far better movies than this one, and those were classics.

Hi Everybody! Are you having a nice weekend?

For me this was a week of revelation - I realised the potential of Jung Ryeo Won. I used to remember her from dramas where she was cast in deer-type roles, which I hate. (By deer I mean the character that just wanders and looks around with those big teary eyes, and probably the character is supposed to evoke sympathy for being so poor, naive and helpless. Yuck!) I admit I didn't see much, just the prevoius roles made me reluctant to catching anything more with her. But watching HOTS I am delighted! The role is well written and she's brilliant in that.
How about you, did anyone realize that some of your bias/prejudice was simply wrong?

BTW I hope that Jung Gyu Woon will show an acting talent as mesmerizing as his abs. Poor dude, he is always a spoilt-but-good-at-heart-chaebol or a poor-but-bubbly-and-good-at-heart-joe. Basically he just switches socio-economical status :) Of course, he's adorable, but ya know, I want some serious substance or really edgy comedy. Am I becoming greedy? :)
