  1. 51 ricky the royal highness

I am back in school. *wails*

Currently trying to ask people to go out with me but none of my friends are here yet. So here I am searching for my virtual friends.

    How y’all been?

    • 51.1 Shel

Ricky-oppa, we missed you so much! Glad to hear you arrived safely. Do classes start on Monday?

      • 51.1.1 Shel

The east coasters may already be in bed…it’s almost 2 am over there. But some of us west-coasters are still up. It’s early morning in Europe…like 6 am-ish.

We just sent the party home. Everyone that was over have little people that wake them up early, so we rarely are out past 10 or 11. I only have a teenager that will get up at noon if I make her, lol.

      • 51.1.2 ricky the royal highness

        Yes. 8am on Monday.

Ha, teens! I was one a few years ago but I never was fond of staying in bed until noon. I’m a morning person. I love the coolness of the morning breeze.

        • 51.1.2.1 Shel

Yep, me too. I have an internal clock that wakes me up between 5 and 5:30 every day. I wonder if it has anything to do with growing up in a hot place.? We always got up about an hour before the sun to do our chores in Arizona, cuz by 8 or 9 in the morning it’s over 100. Or maybe I just have my mom’s early-morning DNA.

When we have clear mornings here, I like to eat my breakfast on the deck and watch the moon set or the sun rise. But, we have foggy mornings more often than clear. Mostly I just like being up before anyone else is up to bug me, lol.

      • 51.1.3 Shel

Well, I hope you find someone to play with. Looks like you and me are the only ones here at the moment and I think I’m gonna desert you and go watch FF ep 16. If I can stay awake…it’s pretty late for me.

Take care…have fun this weekend before the “grind” starts!

    • 51.2 Shukmeister

      Rickie!

[running wildly up, then slowing down and walking in a dignified manner].

Your Highness. It is good that thee has arrived. How mayst thy person be today?

[shakes it off; nobody would believe that's me anyway]

      Hey, big guy.

I’m sad you’re back in school, glad that you made it safely, and happy you have some time to spend here.
This week’s OT has been a little like dodging tornados in our Midwest – you never know when running from one, that the next one will grab you.

      Take care, study hard, fighting!

    • 51.3 Mystisith

A bit late to greet you, but hello ricky ! I left school a few years ago ( don’t ask when :) ) but i remember the feeling very well… Enjoy your last days of freedom and stock your energy. And watch a few dramas too of course.
PS : We are not virtual friends, we are real friends physically unvisible and remote, but alive and kicking !

    • 51.4 cherkell

RICKY!!! OPPA!!! You’re alive!! Just my luck that I decided to hit the sack early last night, trying to make a small dent in my overflowing sleep deficit. ::sad face::

Glad to hear you’ve arrived safe and sound back at Uni — what classes are they forcing on you… um, I mean… anything special on your schedule this time around? :)

    • 51.5 Leaf

OPPA!!!!! Hope you had a good week and not too much work coming up!!!

      • 51.5.1 Shukmeister

Hey Leaf [friendly wave] Welcome back on a Saturday.

        • 51.5.1.1 Leaf

Hey!!! Hope you have/had a good saturday!! :D

  2. 52 am

    I MISSED THE PARTY!!!

Shouldn’t we have an ‘Ask JB/Girlfriday/Gummimochi/Kaedaejun/Headsno2′ post once in a while?

    • 52.1 Mystisith

I second that idea of let’s invade DB bosse’s office . And we should also have an arbitrary DB Local Time to synchronize everyone ( yes, i loathe those time converters, my math hate goes to that point ).

      • 52.1.1 Leaf

I think that is a great idea!!! A universal Dramabeans Time Zone!!!

And of course it should be GMT…. :D

lol… ok ok, how about Korean Time?

  3. 53 kewbie

BTW does anyone know if any websites in the USA will air Shut Up: Flower Boy Band? Or does tvN have streaming like KBS, SBS, etc…? I am hoping one of these sites like Hulu or Dramafever will show it since they both had Flower Boy Ramyun Shop.

    • 53.1 kewbie

Hmm I just saw that Dramafever will be showing Dream High 2, but no news on SU:FBB.

  4. 54 JoAnne

Someone up there (waves vaguely toward the earlier posts) mentioned ionairtv and I just went looking for it. The link is ionair.tv. I don’t know if it’s accessible around the world, but check it out.

    OMG AWESOMENESS. FREE AWESOMENESS.

    (runs away squeeing)

    (comes back to add this:)

Watched a movie on Netflix last night: Sophie’s Revenge (Zhiyi Zhang, So Ji Sub) Adorable. Quirky settings, light touch, pretty pretty people, and a sweet love story. Also: Peter Ho. It’s worth it just to watch him.

    • 54.1 kewbie

      @JoAnne:

That is a great website! I don’t seen tvN, though — I hope they will add it soon. At least I can watch other shows on there. Thanks for pointing that out!

    • 54.2 ajbny

things just keep getting better and better!

    • 54.3 Shukmeister

Peter Ho – was he the guy in “Please Ring Bell Twice”?

      • 54.3.1 JoAnne

I do not know – it’s not on this list as far as I can tell, but apparently he’s in every other Chinese drama or movie and I like him so of course that means I will be watching a bunch of them. He looks like a cross between Bummie and Rain, to me. ADORABLE.

And Sophie’s Revenge…really, that was a very pleasant couple of hours.

        http://wiki.d-addicts.com/Peter_Ho

        • 54.3.1.1 JoAnne

Shukmeister, I take it back! Yes, it’s him – the drama was listed as the Chinese title and then the link lists it as Ring Ring Bell on the specific page.

So should I watch that? I vaguely recall hearing people talk about it but since I wasn’t interested in Taiwanese dramas I didn’t pay much attention.

          • 54.3.1.1.1 Shukmeister

            I liked it, JoAnne.

He plays a photographer who falls in love with a masked patient during an epidemic and bumps into her six years later. I’m a sucker for time skip / what might have been storylines.

It was the first time I saw that actor. I thought he nose was a little…erm…scoopy? ski-slope-y?…but his character was engaging. And his english is pretty smooth. And his hair is adorably curly. And his shirt is off at least once.

I’ve already stored a copy of Sophie for my future viewing. Thanks for the endorsement.

Also, I was just randomly wandering through the city of Dramaville and found one on J Street called “Shima Shima”. Check out this premise:

A woman has a ‘stable’ of male employees who are hired out as ‘sleep companions’ for women with insomnia. Supposedly no hankie-pankie, just a warm body to sleep against.

Maybe I should have Ricky become a part-timer. I could change the title of my story to “The Pillow Prince”. LOL

          • 54.3.1.1.2 JoAnne

@Shukmeister – yeah, he doesn’t have a cute little button nose like me, but I actually don’t mind a nose with character. And I think a big nose goes along with…what is that saying…hmm…

Anyway. Shima Shima sounds interesting! And where can I hire my own snugglebuddy?

Ricky The Pillow Prince made me laugh REALLY hard. You have to work that into the story somehow.

And Sophie..yeah, that just left me with a nice happy feeling. I could watch it again.

          • 54.3.1.1.3 JoAnne

OH, Shuk, his English – it’s smooth because he was born in LA. He’s Chinese – American, went to Taiwan to model, then became a singer, then an actor. Or a singer who became a model than an actor. Whatever way it goes, he used to model and sing, now he acts, and his most recent drama (Summer’s Desire) has him credited as a producer as well.

          • 54.3.1.1.4 JoAnne

@ Shukmeister OMG. Remember at the beginning of OT when I said I wasn’t marathoning anything? Yeah. That’s over. I stayed up until 3. I’ve been in love since the first episode. I hope it doesn’t get stupid.

          • 54.3.1.1.5 Shukmeister

Which one? Please Ring Bell or Summer’s Desire? ‘Cuze I gotta tell you, I haven’t completed vaulting S’sD yet, so I haven’t watched a single ep.

            If it’s PRBx2, yeah, it’s a fun ride.

I randomly picked another based on viewer’ ratings from Taiwan. Cute leads, lots of eye candy. I’ll let you know if it’s worth seeing, since it’s 40 episodes, and I don’t want you to get STUPIDfied again.

          • 54.3.1.1.6 JoAnne

PRB2, Shuk. Summer’s Desire is on the list for sometime in the future. Let me know how the other one goes. Isn’t it Ricky who loves T-Drama? Or is the T in that one Thai?

          • 54.3.1.1.7 Shukmeister

RtPP likes Thai entertainment ‘cuze he likes the melodic language. We discussed two movies “Hello Stranger” and “Crazy In Love” and a series “Roy Marn”.

Alice Chen has the movies and Deeno has the series synopsis.

The series is 15 2-hr episodes, and I really had to push myself to watch the first six or so. It did get better. The over-the-top sound editing was just amusing enough to keep me from FF, but just barely.

Anyways, glad you like PRBx2, sorry about the bleary eyes and the busted resolution. Now it’s time for a two-hour nap before getting ready for my graveyard shift.

            Regards,
            Shuk

Close captioning featured worked for sangeuk (MoonSun) and contemporary (Otajjko Brothers) so I am really happy with iOnAirTv. Unfortunately, I don’t think they have TvN as yet but I did send e-mail asking if they are going to add TvN. if they do, will let OTs know.

  5. 55 Z

Padam Padam BLEW ME AWAY again this week! I don’t think I took a breath at all for the first 20 minutes of Episode 15. And if the scene with the big Cancer reveal had been any longer I would have been crying. The only tiny tiny bone I have to pick is with the level of Chang Gul’s Evil. It’s a little over the top. We get it, he’s a mean mean cowardly guy. Framing a guy for a THIRD time in 16 years and basically saying “Do me a favor and die in prison for me so that I don’t have to kill your whole family… ‘Cause, you know, killin’ ain’t nothin’ but a thang for me.” It’s a bit much.

Also, Jina’s a little bit of a horndog, huh? Who knew…

Also, that kid who plays Jung is going to be a BIG star one day… you heard it here first.

    • 55.1 Shukmeister

lol Z. And don’t forget, Eevul Chul also apologized and said, “there’s nothing else I can do for your family.” Can we please get some karma to run his butt over?? Just sayin’.

It’ll be interesting to see if Daddy O’Violence puts 2 and 2 together and gets the-prosecutor’s-been-laffing-at-you-for-sixteen-years as his answer.

I’ll be sad at the end, I think. Good series.

      • 55.1.1 Z

Oh, don’t even get me started on the apology! Really? “I really am sorry I keep doing this to you. If I could go back and change things I would.” Hello! You can! It’s called confessing and taking the consequences yourself. Or, at the very least, stop killing and threatening people! Don’t you get it? The more people you try to kill… the more the evidence will point to you. Pretty soon, everyone who you try to pin the blame on will be dead.

I was rocking the baby to sleep during than scene and I swear I almost dropped him.

        • 55.1.1.1 JoAnne

10-month old babies are THE.SWEETEST. Chubby little bundles of snuggle. And they smell so GOOD.

I don’t think you ever forget that weight in your arms, against your chest. Or the feel of a small, warm head with that slow pulse at the top, right under your lips.

  6. 56 ellesiiAnn

The Take Care of us Captain team at Viki is done subbing episodes 7 and 8 if anyone’s interested.

    Happy Saturday!

  7. 57 Ariel

Addicted to Ojakkyo Brothers, been watching till 4am my eyes are watering and my parents are on the war path. I wake up late, don’t do any chores and hide in my room watching episode after episode. Oh God help me its a long series and I just can’t stop… this is crazy, I’m crazy and I am dying for a piece of Joo Won. Will it be disloyal to look forward to a 2nd season of 1N2D if Joo Won gets on board.

    • 57.1 am

Oh dear, I have been there…I’m currently gathering all the strength to refrain myself from watching anymore episodes until it’s done…but gosh darn…Joo Won is so darn hard to resist! So, I feel you dear, I feel you.

  8. 58 Shel

Saturday morning. Watched FF #16. LOVE that show so much.

Dark chocolate fudge cake with coconut ice cream for breakfast. I got my anti-oxidants, and my fruit and dairy.

(I HAD to do it. Everyone kept picking at the cake and if I didn’t act now, I wasn’t gonna get any. Next time I make that cake, I’m hiding it.)

    • 58.1 Leaf

      ah… lovely :D

Reminds me of when I had tiramasu for Breakfast :D

That was before trying to be healthy ^sigh^

    • 58.2 JoAnne

Ohmygod. I have been wanting chocolate cake for a full week now.

      • 58.2.1 Shel

Yesterday was National CHOcolate cake day….which is why we made it.

        • 58.2.1.1 Shel

According to my one of my favorite young friends….who posts a holiday every single day, along with how many days until Christmas…..today is National Kazoo Day. (I knew you wouldn’t want to miss it!)

          • 58.2.1.1.1 JoAnne

If I had a kazoo, I would blow it in honor of the chocolate cake I am going to bake!

          • 58.2.1.1.2 Shukmeister

Isn’t he Fred Flintstone’s little Martian buddy? Just kidding.

And I thought yesterday was Day-Off-To-Lounge-In-Penguin-Flannel-Pajammas-Day. (consulting calendar). Well, that’s what it said on mine…

          • 58.2.1.1.3 Shel

Sounds good to me, Shuk! I wish I had some penguin jammies. I did buy me a couple of new pairs of jammies for jounging around in post-surgery, but they haven’t got here yet. no penguins, though. :0(

  9. 59 cmrprindle's phone

Happy Weekend, everyone! I’ve spent the greater part of the day helping a friend move. I am paint-splattered, jelly-armed and -legged, and full of food that’s not very good for me :) How’s everyone else’s weekend going? :D I kinda don’t have the strength to read the OT right now (how weird is that) but I am totally looking forward to you guys post-shower and hair-doing.

    *HUGS!!*

    • 59.1 Shukmeister

      Prindle!!

Always good to see your paint-spattered and jelly-armed self. Get yourself comfy and come back! It’s been an interesting OT.

      • 59.1.1 JoAnne

If she’s got jelly arms, don’t waste any cake on her! Give it to ME

        • 59.1.1.1 ajbny

there’s cake? I hope it’s a well-iced cake no frosting nonsense but real icing. I’ll take all of the icing!

          • 59.1.1.1.1 JoAnne

Shel made dark chocolate fudge cake and ate it with coconut ice cream. No mention of frosting/icing. But really, dark chocolate fudge cake with coconut ice cream? I’m GOOD.

          • 59.1.1.1.2 Shel

It was a flourless (for my gluten free sisterwife). REALLY easy…

Melt 4 squares (4 oz) of semisweet chocolate with 1/2 cup butter in the micro on low. How long depends on your micro…took mine 3 mins on a middle setting (5 of 10). Whisk in 3/4 cup sugar (I used whey sugar, which is low glycemic index….didn’t seem to effect anything, tasted fine), then whisk in 3 eggs, one at a time. Then whisk in 1/2 cup cocoa powder. Grease and flour (or use more cocoa powder to stay gluten free) an 8 inch round pan. Pour in batter, cook at 375 for 25 mins. Cool 5 mins, turn out onto a plate and dust with powdered sugar after it’s cool.

It’s good with coconut ice cream, or mint ice cream, or dulce de leche ice cream, or rocky road ice cream, or vanilla bean ice cream, or pistachio almond ice cream…or just whipped cream.

          • 59.1.1.1.3 Shel

OH….important….it doesn’t have to melt all the way in the micro…once it’s warm, just keep stirring it, it will melt eventually. If you get it too hot, the chocolate will either seize or it will too hot to whisk in eggs without cooking them.

          • 59.1.1.1.4 Shukmeister

What cacao percentage for the semi-sweet chocolate?

            I have from 50% to 92% available.

(what can I say, I’m bitter AND sweet, lol)

          • 59.1.1.1.5 Shel

I just used Baker’s brand semi-sweet. I’m not sure what the percentage is…probably around 65. I wouldn’t go too dark, as there really isn’t much sugar in it and it’s REALLY dark/rich.

          • 59.1.1.1.6 Shel

If you have a scale, you could probably just measure out 4 ounces of semi sweet choco chips. Never tried it, but I can’t imagine why it wouldn’t work.

    • 59.2 ajbny

something about the phrase jelly arms is very appetizing. you’re a good friend. I hope you get to lie about tomorrow.

      • 59.2.1 cmrprindle's phone

Mmm, sort of a lie-in. I’m back from church and post-breakfast…gonna iron for the week *now* instead of putting it off, then try to do some writing and OTing. That’s a pretty relaxed day for me, w/no cause for feeling like a lazy slacker :)

        • 59.2.1.1 cmrprindle's phone

And I’m not that good. I was sorta volunteered abt 2 weeks ago, and seriously considered not going until earlier in the week. :s

  10. 60 ricky the pillow prince

Okay this name made me laugh.

I just want to thank everyone for your warm wishes. I’ll be back on the next OT. Have a great week :D

    • 60.1 Shukmeister

      Rickie!!!

Studly…er…study well, and hope to see you back here soon.

          Aw, thanks, chica [blushing]

  11. 61 Jules

So apparently it’s no longer Friday, but is in fact Sunday. I’m not sure how that’s possible, as it was Friday about 2 seconds ago. Weekends seem to slip by, almost as though someone has his/her finger on the fast-forward button. *coughkindoflikewatchingATKcough*

Annnyway. Although I spent most of my time trying to keep the roof from caving in (literally, after a minor flood from the flat above) and not doing my Japanese homework, I still somehow managed to watch several dramas. Chief among them:

Flower Boy Ramyun Shop – finally finished it and loved it (surprise, surprise *g*). Um, but is it bad that at the end I thought, ‘Okay, when Eun-bi decides she needs someone more mature than Chi-soo, can she just move on to Kang-hyuk?’ because I kind of see Chi-soo as being her ‘starter’ boyfriend and Kang-hyuk being the one she could stay with forever. (sorry, Chi-soo, I love you too, I swear! But… Kang-hyuk…)

What’s Up, Fox – at first I couldn’t get into the show because the first episode didn’t create a strong impression, but it keeps getting better (and I have to say, the crotch scene in the first ep made me giggle – it was just so unexpected), so I’m happy with it (only half-way through atm).

Biscuit Teacher & Star Candy – I finished this one a few weeks ago, and have been ruminating on it ever since, because I was trying to figure out why the creepy art teacher made my skin crawl. I think the reason is: aside from the fact that he’s pretty much been obsessed with a student for *years*, something about him is very off-putting. At first I thought it was because he was such a bland milquetoast, but then I realised it wasn’t so much that he was *bland* as he was *blank* – he smiled, but there was no warmth or feeling behind it and his eyes were empty of soul. I think he reminds me of one of the serial killers from Criminal Minds – all fake smiles and politesse, and dead inside. *shudders*
But other than the creepy art teacher, I really enjoyed the drama (hee). Gong Hyo-jin and Gong Yoo were fantastic in it and their relationships – not only with each other, but with the other characters in the drama (creepy art teacher excluded) – were interesting and fun to watch.

and I’ve started watching a few Taiwanese dramas:

Fated to Love You – really liked the chemistry between the leads, but the male lead drove me batty. He was so completely incapable of taking responsibility for anything he said or did that I often myself yelling at the screen. I don’t think I’ve ever shouted at a fictional character quite so much – well, aside from the horrible ‘best friends’ in Full House. And Chae-rin in Delightful Girl Chun-hyang. And… ;)

Drunken to Love You – again, enjoying the chemistry (and the contract marriage trope is one of my favourites) but also loving the fact that the male lead is so level-headed. He doesn’t just believe what other people tell him, not when the evidence is to the contrary, and he’s firm with his ex-girlfriend and generally doesn’t allow himself to manipulated (er… too much. it is a drama, after all). It’s so refreshing.

In Time With You – just started watching this one, but like the set-up of best friends falling in love, particularly as it seems that the male lead falls in love first, which is a bit unusual. (and I’ll admit to having a soft spot for Ariel Lin, so there’s that.)

Hope you’re all having a wonderful Fri- er, Sunday! :D

  12. 62 Shukmeister

Good End of Weekend, Jules. I’ve watched everything but BT/SC.

FBRS – I agree that older is better for Eun Bi

WUD? – Liked everthing, but the final ending seemed a bit rushed and flat. Still, definitely rooted for the canon couple despite the age difference; the chemistry was great.

The 3 TWDramas – The worst thing I could say about TWD’s is the constant push for marriage and children. It gets a little old in my book to constantly bully the females. That having been said…

My favorite is “Drunken” as Joseph Chang hit it out of the park as the lead. Levelheaded and cute wins hands down.

“Fated” – I totally wanted her to end up with Dylan. Do you choose the one who loves you or the one you love? The lead’s whining and ‘dog in the manger’ attitude really put me off. Good show, tho, in spite of it.

ITWY – I think you’ll enjoy it. Both leads work well as a couple (Ariel and Wilson are also in a movie together), and I think it had a pretty satisfactory ending.

    Have a good week!

    • 62.1 Jules

Hm, I can’t speak for the ending of WUF? just yet, but I am really enjoying the sort of bewildered attraction between the leads (at the moment, they both seem to be thinking, ‘But… how can I like…?’) – I hope its charm holds up for the second half of the series.

DTLY is just so good – there are the usual issues and stumbling blocks (the clingy, cannot-understand-the-meaning-of-actual-words ex-girlfriend, for example), but Joseph Chang, the character of Jie Xiu and the relationship between Jie Xiu and Xiao Ru make it a pleasure to watch. I just saw an episode in which he said – whilst angsting to himself about whether or not Xiao Ru has feelings for him – ‘Wait a minute. Instead of talking to myself about this, I should just ask her. That would solve everything.’ because OMG YES. Finally, a sensible character in a drama! (also: he then straight-up *asked* the female lead, ‘Do you like me? Yes or no.’, which kind of boggled my mind.)

FTLY – oh, God. Much as I enjoyed the chemistry between the leads, the character of Cun Xi made me want to shake him ’til he saw sense (or until his snapped off. you know, whichever came first.). Every time I thought he was going to do something heroic, something that would bring me over to his side, he… didn’t. Like the episode in which he leaves his girlfriend for Xin Yi. You think, ‘Ah, finally.’ but then you find that no, he hasn’t actually left her after all – he’s still planning on divorcing Xin Yi after the baby is born (oh, and making her leave her newborn child behind before she disappears into the ether) and his grand romantic gesture is… to change the terms of the divorce agreement so she gets more money? It… does not compute. I could rant on this for a while (or, hah, for longer than I already have, rather), but instead I’ll just say: yes, I totally wanted her to be with Dylan. And I can’t help but think of how good a drama it could’ve been- okay, stopping now, I swear. *g*

I haven’t seen much of ITWY yet, but the premise is cute, and I’m interested to see how they, as youngsters, transitioned from enemies to friends (and why he’d told her he could never love her).

Hope your week is going well!

        * (or until his snapped off. you know, whichever came first.)

Ha, should’ve been ‘until his *head* snapped off’, but you know, whatever other body part you can think of snapping off would probably work, too. ;)

          LOL – I couldn’t agree more. Cun Xi needed an old-fashioned Cher-esque “Moonstruck”-style SnapOutOfIt!

I picked up WUF after watching Cinderella’s Sister because I hoped the actor was more than just intense stares. Happy to say I like this earlier work of his so so much better. And the puzzlement between them was so cute! Their confessions as to when they first fell in love were awesome too.

I also like an older series called “My Girl” starring Lee Dong Wook pre-army that has a similar feel to WUF. She’s a honest con girl (yes I know how that sounds) who is hired to be a pretend granddaughter.

Anyway, enjoy the rest of the series, and let me know what you think of the ending. Time to get back to work [sigh].
