Kim Haneul considers A Gentleman’s Dignity
Okay, now this I can get behind. Apparently when you get a movie star to headline your drama, all the other movie stars line up too. Kim Haneul (You’re My Pet, Blind) is now the latest contender to star opposite Jang Dong-gun in upcoming miniseries A Gentleman’s Dignity, slated for May.
She’s reportedly been offered the role and is considering the reunion with On Air screenwriter Kim Eun-sook (who’s also reteaming with PD Shin Woo-chul of Secret Garden). If this happens, I’ll pretty much be tuning in for the star power alone, and I’m guessing everyone else will too. Not that star power can save a drama from crazyville if that where it’s dead set on going. I’ve been burned enough times to know that much.
A Gentleman’s Dignity stars Jang Dong-gun, Kim Min-jong and Kim Suro as a set of 40-something bachelors navigating the dating scene. I hope that they’re going to shoot for a range of actresses in different age brackets to star opposite them, like at least one noona romance. Where’s Lee Mi-sook when you need her?
There’s not much information on the story yet, other than being called a male version of Sex and the City, but obviously it’s not going to be Ajusshis in the City, because for one it’s on network television, and knowing the writer there’s going to be a lot more melo than comedy. But it’s being branded as a romantic comedy, so I’ll be happy if it surprises me.
A Gentleman’s Dignity is slated for 20 episodes on weekends in May on SBS.
