Oh yeah, that was sad news.

    • 1.2 Shukmeister

      Hey Leaf – Happy Friday!!

Ever considered letting someone else have the first post? Just sayin’.
      8-)

      • 1.2.1 Leaf

        Nope :D
First post is MINE!!! ^insert evil laugh^

But seriously… what else are my superpowers good for? :D

        • 1.2.1.1 Mystisith

I’m wondering if Leaf could actually be JB or GF in disguise… I suppose we’ll never know and that’s fine :)

          • 1.2.1.1.1 Leaf

Haha… no way… I am not that awesome at all!!

JB and GF are like gods…

I went to an MUN conference and found someone else who liked K dramas and we were like “And you read Dramabeans?” “Of course!!! It’s the Bible!”

So yeah, JB and GF (not to mention all the wonderful guest bloggers :D ) are Gods. Dramabeans is the Bible and I am but a humble subject.

      • 1.2.2 ricky the royal highness

I know when the OT is posted but I always get distracted. And I type like a snail so by the time I click ‘Submit’, some other people (like Leaf) materialized.

        • 1.2.2.1 Arhazivory

I thought I’d be first….but beaten for the leaf.

          • 1.2.2.1.1 Arhazivory

            *by* the leaf. -_-’

          • 1.2.2.1.2 Leaf

Lol… I am now ‘the Leaf’?

That’s pretty awesome…. and really weird at the same time… :D

        • 1.2.2.2 Shukmeister

Tuanku Ricky! Did you see, I managed to find a recipe for Kuih Kodok? Posted it after our video discussion in OT225. I hope none of us set our respective houses on fire.

          • 1.2.2.2.1 ricky the royal highness

I saw it. I cooked it before. On my own. Without any recipes. *smug face* And my guy friends wolfed it down in mere seconds. I’m like the Jamie Oliver among the guys. LOL

          • 1.2.2.2.2 Shukmeister

[pout, wiggle] Some of us are still a bit leery of that flamage…

        • 1.2.2.3 JoAnne

When I opened the thread, there were 10 comments. I posted 2 responses and my own post, and in that space of time it went to 96 comments. Three minutes later, it was 127. There’s just no keeping up.

          • 1.2.2.3.1 Mystisith

Getting out of hand, that’s for sure ! What’s the record for number of comments on OT ? Could be broken this week.
I think it’s fun and proves a lot of people are enjoying it.

          • 1.2.2.3.2 Leaf

Record Number was OT #191 with 1327 comments…

Last week we only got to 1225 comments ;)

          • 1.2.2.3.3 JoAnne

oh, we will beat it by tomorrow night. We’re doing another movie marathon. I don’t know what time yet (and of course what time it is for everyone depends on where they are in the world) but last weekend Ricky, Shuk, MJP and I watched Cyrano Dating Agency ‘together’. This weekend we’re watching Finding Mr. Destiny, and I know there are at least a couple other people joining so I expect exponentially more comments! It will be late-ish (eastern standard time) on Saturday night, that’s all I know. I’m guessing not before 9 or 10.

          • 1.2.2.3.4 Leaf

So…. around 2am my time? Hmm… while I have no doubt my insomnia will mean I am up at that time I would hopefully be going to bed not starting a movie….

^sigh^ Further proof the UK is rubbish

          • 1.2.2.3.5 JoAnne

Well, don’t take me as gospel. Really I am open to any time on Saturday, but I know when we were watching at 11-2 am last week, it was still early in the day for Ricky – he’s about 12 hours different and I think that’s the biggest difference we have to accommodate?

          • 1.2.2.3.6 MJP

            :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

            * * * * * M O V I E N I G H T S A T U R D A Y * * * * *

Everyone is welcome to join us in our second venture of Movie/OT Chat. This is going to be FUN!!!!!

The movie is Finding Mr. Destiny.

Everyone will need to go to ionair.tv and get signed up with a free id/pw before the show. The movie is currently located on page 4.

Saturday February 11, 2012 for USA and Sunday February 12, 2012 for Ricky and whomever else may hail from the future. The start time will be 7:00 p.m. Dramabeans time (10:00 p.m. EST and 11:00 a.m. Ricky time)

          • 1.2.2.3.7 ricky the royal highness

Please arrange it according to your time zones. Follow the majority. I seriously don’t mind.

          • 1.2.2.3.8 MJP

            Ricky TRH,

I did adjust the time as best as I could. If I go any earlier, there may be issues with the West Coast time since in America the eating dinner traditional time is 6 p.m. (However my family eats between 7 and 7:30 p.m. and the elderly have a tendency to eat between 4 and 5 p.m.)

Also, by moving the day of the movie from Sunday night to Saturday night, this also helps so that those on the East Coast that stay up late will be able to sleep in on Sunday morning.

I know that this time may not suit every time zone, but it’s the best I could come up with.

          • 1.2.2.3.9 Leaf

            ^cries^ I wanna take part ^sulk^

But everyone else have lots of fun!!! Once I move to a less lame place I will join in!!!

          • 1.2.2.3.10 Jennifer

lol at least u guys are all up early for it, by the time I wake up and check dramabeans, which is the FIRST thing I do the moment I turn on my laptop btw, there’s already like over 200 comments….

          • 1.2.2.3.11 Cynthia

            Don’t forget drinks and snacks!
And perhaps a virtual dish to share?
            :)

          • 1.2.2.3.12 Jennifer

and I would love to join too! but I work until 11pm on Saturday nights so I don’t know if I’ll be able to often… but keep me posted weekly with the movie and times you’ll b meeting!

Do you guys just have a convo on OT?

          • 1.2.2.3.13 MJP

            Jennifer,

Yes a most hilarious conversation on the OT about our thoughts and reactions to the movie, the actors/actresses performances, the writing, etc. Just like we are in the same room together… Well, sort of.

We had distractions like an overwhelming desire to replay the movie scenes or talking with parents on the phone or dealing with children or just needing to come in at a later time and pick up in the middle of it all.

I think the most important and most fun thing was we all finished the movie at different times.

          • 1.2.2.3.14 Hillary

            I will definitely be “there”

          • 1.2.2.3.15 alua

@Leaf…. I didn’t realise you were in the UK as well!

hehe but saying things like “the… is rubbish” is guess is very British indeed.

          • 1.2.2.3.16 alua

            @the Mr Destiny watchers…

would love to join but so not a good hour for my timezone (especially because I have to get up at 5 am tomorrow for work, as I do on most Saturday mornings)

            but enjoy enjoy enjoy

and be warned that the male lead was cast to play two DIFFERENT characters (this isn’t a spoiler… it’s just utterly confusing and I enjoyed the film much more the second time watching because I wasn’t racking my brain trying to figure out whether there was any deeper sense/purpose behind one actor playing two roles in the same film).

          • 1.2.2.3.17 JoAnne

Alua, we’re not doing it tonight, we’re doing it tomorrow night. Saturday night for most of us, Sunday morning for Ricky THRH, PP. So maybe?

Jennifer – we were ‘watching the movie’ for almost 3 hours so check in when you get home?

Leaf – take a nap, kid! Then get up!

          • 1.2.2.3.18 Cabbage

Awww – I love that movie!! It’s dreamy, and he’s dreamy, though his character is so different from other things he’s done.

          • 1.2.2.3.19 Jennifer

wait so you guys watch the movie at the same time you’re having the convo?! Lol that just blows my mind. I will deff try to check in tomorrow!

          • 1.2.2.3.20 ricky the royal highness

            Yes, we do!
That’s why it takes some time for us to finish the movie because we pause and reply comments.

          • 1.2.2.3.21 DeeDee315

MJP, Ionair TV is a new Korean drama web site for me. I took a look (and signed up) and it seems most shows and movies were either unavailable, withdrawn or had no subtitles. What do you know abt this site? I assume it’s new and just getting started. Looks like a great idea if they can get it together.

          • 1.2.2.3.22 Raine

I came and now there are over 750 comment.s What am I to do?

          • 1.2.2.3.23 Shukmeister

Yea! We beat OT# 191 for the most number of entries!!!
            1375 as of this posting.

        • 1.2.2.4 Ivoire

          @ Ricky,

I left you a new reply in the 1.3…..that you can read. Please check the date (Feb 12) and the time (4:55am) for the new post. It went higher than your post I was responding to. Sorry :-(

    • 1.3 Raine

He needs to be SUPER careful about putting the weight back on. He should’ve had more time to lose all of that. That’s so ridiculous what they put him through…but he’s so dedicated! Get better Kim Bum-ssi!

      • 1.3.1 ricky the royal highness

True. You should lose weight slowly, one or two pounds per month.

        • 1.3.1.1 JoAnne

But at that rate…I won’t be in a size 8 until 10 years after I die of very, very old age.

          • 1.3.1.1.1 Sethe

Yeah, fuck moderation. The best way to become skinny, skinny is to starve yourself and continue to starve yourself until you look like the supermodels you see in all the photos and ads, and then continue to starve yourself so you can continue to be the person they see…

Because what should be most important in the life of a young woman (or any woman) is how she’s seen sexually by a relatively small number of men…

(Sorry, there was more to this post, but I guess the men involved either passed out or hooked up :) )

          • 1.3.1.1.2 Raine

I lost about a pound a week, but I don’t try. I just changed my habits. No more coke! and no more dessert…cept icecream. That’s it! and eat more greens! It’s great!

          • 1.3.1.1.3 Shukmeister

            @ Raine -

            That’s how I did it!
I used an online food analyzer to find out how bad my intake was, then adjusted it so that, in general, I’m eating less than 2000 calories a day. No fancy diets or food I don’t like, and I still eat McDonalds twice a week.

Oh, and thanks to my kidney stones, I drink over a gallon of water a day, which limits my Dr Pepper intake to once a week, if I’m lucky.

            Went from 24US / 26UK / 56FR to a 18US / 20UK / 50FR, in a little under a year for a weight loss of about 60lb.

Now, for all day today, I had a bowl of grits, an egg, and some fresh fruit. Pack of peanut butter crackers for lunch.

Tonight for the movie? A bacon cheeseburger, potato chips, Dove Dark Chocolates, and three bottles of soju. And maybe some Dr Pepper, and chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream if it gets too hot.

          • 1.3.1.1.4 Leaf

            Congrats on everyone’s weightloss!! FIGHTING!!!

Now if only that would work for me ^sigh^
I’ve even lowered my expectations from being Asian thin to now being asian normal… (which is possible… maybe?)

My problem is I love food too much!! And when I get hungry my body curls up and refuses to move until fed :(

And to think I use to eat nothing when I was younger… how things have changed….

        • 1.3.1.2 Leaf

Hmm… that’s a bit too slow… how will I reach my Idol weight if I lose at that pace? :O

Not that I am actually doing anything to reach that…

          • 1.3.1.2.1 Hillary

@Ivoire: I had to go into the office today and actually had to do some work for a change… LOL. Then I had a conference call with my boss and some lawyers. So finally was able to get onto OT around 1:15 pm CST and have been on here ever since. I just finished reading through once and am now going back over, though I will be leaving in 30 minutes and of course, come back tonight once I reach home.

          • 1.3.1.2.2 Ivoire

            @ Hillary,

Just read your responses to my comments and I will comment much later. I love your explanations about your Trinidadian background last OT, so interesting and so rich of culture and mixing. I hope you will have a great weekend!
MY weekend and next week will be extremely busy, so I don’t know how often I will be around this OT, just so you guys know.

          • 1.3.1.2.3 Ivoire

            @ Hillary,

There is a Hillary on Cadence’s post (on the OB pages). I was jut curious, is that you there?

          • 1.3.1.2.4 Hillary

@Ivoire: Yes, I am the Hillary that frequents Cadence blog.

          • 1.3.1.2.5 Ivoire

            @ Shukie,
Read your comment (in response to mine) and you are welcome! (about the compliment I made you). I will comment more later. So please visit again later.

            @ Ricky,
I will also comment later as I have a number of things I would like to say but can’t do it now because of time and (you know me), I will be long winded. So, please visit when you can, I will be writing on this post until Thursday (or Friday, until the OT is opened).

I did notice that there were some questions I asked about your educational system (in Malaysia) that you didn’t answer. They are in my 2nd (midsize) post. Would you please answer them?
I can remember some of the things I wrote in those looooong letters (to my pen pals). They were fun to write, it was an exercise I enjoyed doing very much. I will tell you later what I wrote. Part of the fun was going to the post office (and our mailbox) and get letters from Switzerland, Germany, Israel and Mexico and reading them and responding to them. I used the dictionary A LOT and it was my best friend. It was time well spent in my eyes, I improved my English, my writing skills, I was safe (I knew who I was writing to because we had been part of a language immersion program[me] :-) in England and so we had spent time together in class and hanging out during our free time as well), and the content of our letters was always appropriate, which I think is always important in any stage in life, but even more so when children or teenagers correspond with each other. As someone who has cared for children and teenagers and who was one at one point, I am very sensitive about those things. There are so many crazies out there who can pass for anyone, you have to be extremely careful these days. There were also some Cameroonian teenagers who lived in a different city than mine, and I was also corresponding with the older sister when we got back to Cameroon. She ended up dying of Meningitis within 2 years after our immersion program and that was really sad to hear.
MY Swiss friend/penpal invited me to Switzertland the following summer and my mom wanted me to go (she was that adventurous, she would have talked to the parents first and made sure they were OK), but for some reason, I ended up not going. I think we might have had other plans for that summer.

I can relate to the kind of relationship you have with your dad, mine was like that (somewhat) for many years, so although I have always wished to be closer to him emotionally, it has not really been the case and I think the fact that no one taught him how to be a dad and how to be with girls didn’t help (we didn’t have any Dr. Phil. :-) and his friends didn’t know any better either). He was a caring dad (he is sick now), but like yours, he left the parenting to my mother so… He would discipline me though :-) (I remember those times). I can say more about that later.
I am glad I made you grin (yay!!!) and I will stop feeling bad about me writing a lot. It’s not like anyone complains about it here anyway, so I think it’s Ok. You can look forward to some letters then :-)

Did you like the *Oppa* thing? You didn’t comment on that. I think it is good that you have and keep journals, it will help you in your journey with life. It gives you distance thus helps with having a perspective, and even though you feel like you are reading about a stranger’s life, I think it is still good that you are learning about yourself in that manner. I say keep it up…
So, am I right to assume that you are absolutely single these days? Hum… Not that there is anything wrong about that, I was just wondering and wanted to clarify that current status in your life (and no, unfortunately, I don’t have anyone I could introduce you to :-) ).

Ok, that’s it for now. On to other stuff I need to take care of. Hope you guys enjoyed your movie time. have a great Sunday!

          • 1.3.1.2.6 ricky the royal highness

            @ Ivoire

            I posted a reply on page 5 :)

        • 1.3.1.3 ricky the royal highness

Well, that’s what health experts say if you want to lose weight. You gotta do it slowly. If you follow a strict diet and exercise regime and proceed to lose weight quickly, then the pounds you shed would return as soon as you slack off.

          • 1.3.1.3.1 Ivoire

Actually ricky, I think it’s 1 to 2 pounds a week, not a month. My doctor when I was living in France told me that 1 to 2 kgs/week was OK, and that would be between 2.2025 and 5 pounds (approximately)., which to me is still fine. What do you think?

          • 1.3.1.3.2 Hillary

As an overweight person, I can tell you it is definitely 2-3 lbs per week.

          • 1.3.1.3.3 Ivoire

Hi Hillary, finally, a post or response by you :-)

I have been looking for a post or response by you for the last 2 hours on this OT. I did read (today) your response to French posted on OT 225 and left you a message on this OT in the 3 something numbers, below. please scroll down to read, I wrote in response to Ricky (your message is a little further down).

          • 1.3.1.3.4 ricky the royal highness

            Thanks for correcting me.

          • 1.3.1.3.5 Ivoire

You are welcome Ricky! What are noonas for? :-)

          • 1.3.1.3.6 Ivoire

Noonas are partly good for correcting their donsaeng and sharing their knowledge with him, and love on him of course :-) Oh.. and talking about his girl problems when he has any, while watching a Kdrama and eating their favorite snack (ice cream, Malaysian snack, you name it…), while relaxing on the couch. If the noonas are great cook, they also feed delicious meals to their donsaeng who then dons an apron and does the dishes and cleans the kitchen. See, everybody wins and it’s done in love and with love. Hum… I love this tableau, now I need to find me a donsaeng like that (who loves Kdramas so we can analyze them) so we could do those things when we hang out. I do have a brother who is 15 years younger than me, I don’t know how he would feel about watching Kdramas with me :-) . Ricky could you train him and break him in for me? I would really appreciate it :-) .
Awwww and my younger cousins are so cute, maybe I should try and tempt them with something they like (have to find out what) IF they would watch kdramas with me (and be good sports about it).

And Maknae Oppas (like someone on this post) are good for being protective a la Thousand Day Promise and as someone on this post who is a good cook, feeding his noonas delicious food and listening to her when she has boy’s problems. He is especially good with the part where he tells her that the guy didn’t deserve her (if he was a douche bag) and was an idiot. Awwww… I love this picture as well. Now, how do I get in it?…

          • 1.3.1.3.7 ricky the royal highness

            @ Ivoire
If your little brother is willing, of course I would be, too! But generally speaking, boys are not drama watchers. I tried to influence my sister to watch dramas but it never sticks with her. She does watch occasionally though but it still sucks to talk to someone who doesn’t recognize Korean names and the KDrama lingo though. She would be “Who’s Puppy, again?”

          • 1.3.1.3.8 Ivoire

            @ Ricky,

The internet was not working, so I can only answer now. I have read all your responses to my comments (thank you) and I love how you talk about your mom and your sister. I can tell you love them, but you also see them for who they are, and that’s good. You seem to know how to appreciate women and that will be a blessing to you. Whether it is your mother, sister, cousins, nieces, coworkers, classmates, Yeoja chingu :-) , future fiancee and maybe wife, your daughters if you end up having any (Ok even your sons, if you have them. To be honest, men need to be appreciated too), always appreciate women.
Yeah, like all human beings, some might hurt you and make you question things, but as a whole I believe you will be a better person (and a better man) for appreciating women and knowing how to convey that (appropriately) to them.
Man, I sound like a big sister giving advice, don’t I? I hope you don’t mind, I just want to encourage you because you seem to have great qualities I think you should hang on to. I am the oldest of 6 children and I helped my parents raise my siblings and as I mention on this post, there is a big age gap between some of them and me, so for a while, I was more the mom than the sister at home. I think that feeling and mentality has not totally left me, as I was also a nanny for many, many years, across 3 different continents. So sometimes, I act like a big sister (or like a mom) even if I don’t mean to. Just indulge me, please? I will try not to be overbearing. Let me know if I am. Can we pinking swear on that, the Korean (drama) way? Also, now I am curious, are you very close to your dad as well? I know you mention in an older OT how your parents met, fell in love and ended up getting married and you have talked about your dad in the past, but I don’t remember. So that’s why I am asking. Your family seems to be really close. Are you?

2–I watched (finally) the video you posted on OT 225 and I liked it. You asked me how I thought you guys sounded like, I reserve my judgment on that as I have listened to it and watched it only once. I will have to watch it many times as different thoughts were going through my mind. Also, different people in Malaysia had (slightly) different accents, it wasn’t all the same. I did listen to the girl who is like you (I don’t want to mispell it, your ethnicity, since I don’t have the name in front of me but you know what I mean) and now I have an idea of what you sound like. I liked it and you are right, your accent is more British English. I really liked the video and what the guy did with it. He was just himself and I felt that I was being exposed to something new (which I was) and real. He didn’t fancy it up, he just did it and it sounded like he was speaking different Malaysian languages (different ways of speaking in Malaysia), because it didn’t all sound the same. It would be like if I made a video where I speak a few Cameroonian different languages to showcase a little the diversity in our languages. That’s just my 2 cents worth, what do I know, really…(That’s what I initially got out of it).

Alright my dear, I would like to comment on your other responses to my other comments, but I don’t have the time to do it right now. So visit when you can (until next OT, if you don’t mind) to see (if you want) if I had the chance to write something. The internet doesn’t seem to be always be working at home these days, which is another problem and that slows me down considerably.

So, maknae oppa (there is your oppa, at least I included it, right :-) , I actually don’t mind calling you oppa, interesting because I have never done that before. Oh…. the things Kdramas can make us do :-) ). Have yourself a great rest of the day and a wonderful weekend!

            Man!!!! Ricky,

You got yourself a talker… I sometimes can’t believe how expressive I am, especially if I am given the freedom to be. Wow!!! My comments are usually so long, it’s like reading a letter. And the funny thing is, I used to (hand)write loooooong letters (like 16-20 pages on paper like school notebook paper, the long ones. You know, the A4, legal pad type) to my penpals and friends I met in England when I was in High School, it really helped me improve my English, I have to say… Now ask me again what I was writing about :-) . I think I am the kind of person who can always find something to say, a topic of conversation…

I do give the writing skills to Javabeans, GF and Shukie, I would add.
I have to go back to staying away from this post as it is becoming a temptation again and I have a busy day ahead of me.
P.S.: I was wondering, for how many years did you teach? What grade(s), what subjects? Did you go to college before teaching? How old are Malaysians (or students in Malaysia when they graduate from High School?).

          • 1.3.1.3.10 Shukmeister

            @ Ivoire 1.3.1.3.9

Oh Wow, Iv, thanks for putting me in with such distinguished company, but I don’t feel I’m anywhere near the level of our two beautiful Drama Goddesses. [holding hand to burning cheeks]

The ability to recap like they do is beyond legendary and I think you give me waaaay too much credit. I tried one once; it hurt so much I thought my mind was actually sprained. Recapping is not for me; I’m more the doggerel type. ;-)

But thank you!!! [sending much love]

          • 1.3.1.3.11 ricky the royal highness

            @ Ivoire
Aww, I was grinning when I read your replies. Don’t worry about being too expressive. In my book, that’s a really welcoming trait. I love letters and reading your replies feels like receiving one.

I’m not that close with my father, I have to admit. The fault is in both of us. He’s taciturn, preferring to be alone with a cup of coffee and reading the newspaper. While I can’t really connect much with him. We are not hostile towards each other though. It’s just that we communicate less and he leaves all the parenting to my mother.

He’s very caring but he does it differently. Once in a while I would receive a call or a text from mom saying “Your dad wants to know if you need some money”. It’s weird because he could easily call me himself but instead he always let my mom to do it.

Oh, I’m glad you watched the video. Now you have a general idea of how I speak.

I do think that it’s easy for you to strike up a conversation. You mentioned having penpals and friends and how you used to write to them. What did you share with them?
I used to have a penpal but she’s now on Fb so we stopped sending letters to each other. I kind of regret that. I keep a lot of journals, too. Since I was 15 actually. It’s funny because when I read my journals I feel as though I’m reading about a stranger’s experience.

I look forward to hearing more from you. I’ll reply when I can.

        Noble Idiotic Professionalism. :( .
I would send beef and pancakes by express delivery if i knew where.

        • 1.3.2.1 Cynthia

How true. Wasn’t it Noh Min woo who decided to drop all that weight in Midas because his character was dying? The really stupid thing was, the role sucked for him, he really didn’t have much screen time and he jeopardized his health for not much. It’s one thing to be DeNiro in ‘Raging Bull’ – but for a side character in a Kdrama? Nope.
Bummie made a huge change to his physique, but the cost of future double knee replacement sugery had better be worth it to him.

          • 1.3.2.1.1 Mystisith

The Noh Min Woo diet broke my heart too. Apparently, to prove you’re invested in your character yo have to A : Lose a lot of weight. Or B : Learn a new discipline ( sport or music or whatever ). It’s worst than the Actor’s Studio technique. Becoming alcoholic to play one anybody ?

          • 1.3.2.1.2 Ivoire

Learning a new discipline, I can understand and approve, since it actually expands the actor/actress knowledge and skills and could make them more well rounded. Overdoing it in sports and potentially harmful habits, I find highly questionable. One needs to think about the long term ramifications of their actions. Professional success, money and fame are not the end all in life. Health is extremely important as well, at least I think so…

    • 1.4 ricky the royal highness

Leaf, how do you spell color? Do you spell it like me? As in, c-o-l-o-u-r.

Sorry for this random question. I’m just curious.

      • 1.4.1 Leaf

Colour… I speak and type English properly like it was originally intended… not strange weird Americanisms…
        :D

        • 1.4.1.1 ricky the royal highness

Charming! I love how we spell!

One of the things that annoy me is when a red line appears under the words I typed using the British English way of spelling. Take for instance, colour. Oh gawd, there it is again!

I was taught British English since I was 5 so I feel like punching the screen sometimes. The red line is definitely one of my least favourite things. (And there it is again!)

          • 1.4.1.1.1 Leaf

Ha… I used to have to change it over to UK style on word every single time…

But that reminds me when I went to school in the US for a bit I got told off all the time for my bad spelling…
which is particularly funny as I did spell atrociously then… (still do) but they told me off for WORDS I WAS SPELLING RIGHT ^insert rage face^

          • 1.4.1.1.2 alua

British spelling for me too… colour flavour favour programme honour … :-)

although my vocab is sometimes quite Americanised (‘pants’ for example… I use it the American way)

          • 1.4.1.1.3 Ani

I had to learn both British English and American English spelling – and pronunciation since Mom is of the West side of the South Pacific (European Influenced) and Dad the East (American), so I’ve never had to ask people from one place or the other why they spell “weird”. Although, it kind of screws me over sometimes when I forget which particular spellings to use when I’m either in America or New Zealand. Grey vs Gray? Blah.

        • 1.4.1.2 shiku

Yay! for British English ad Nay for strange Americanisms. They just had to be different, change which side of the road to drive on, the way to write the dates, change spellings and pronounciations.

E.g. Water is pronounced Warer in the US while the rest of the English-speaking World pronounces Water.

          • 1.4.1.2.1 Leaf

            Don’t forget ‘erbs!!
I will never understand that word….

          • 1.4.1.2.2 JoAnne

            Shiku, I think you’re talking about the midwest, LOL…I definitely don’t say warer. It’s wah-tur…or possibly wah-dur.

I do however swallow middle t’s. Mitten is mi’in, kitten is ki’in, mountain is moun’in, etc. Kind of like the g/k at the end of a korean word. Barely there. Or the H at the beginning of the second first name.

          • 1.4.1.2.3 Shukmeister

            @ JoAnne -

            Oh no, you didin’…
In my case, my parents are both from New York City, so even though I grew up on the Eastern Seaboard, there’s lot of Brooklyn in my speech. It’s like having a southern drawl slowing down the Brooklyn fuhgeddaboutit.

          • 1.4.1.2.4 Noelle

            What!? When? Who?

          • 1.4.1.2.5 Hillary

Don’t get me started on this topic. I had to re-write my thesis several times because Trinidad uses the King’s English and I completed my degrees in the U.S. So, I had to change a lot to make my writing style US compatible.

There was also a first person vs third person drama that I went through. I was thought that it was “impolite,” to say the least, to write in the first person. So my first draft of my thesis (which when completed was over 1,000 pages) used the third-person quite extensively. Then my advisor (sorry, I should say adviser in the US) told me to re-write thesis in the first person, which at that time, was the hardest thing for me to do (change writing habits developed over 5 years of elementary school, 7 years of secondary school and 3 years of university … LOL). That was quite an exercise.

          • 1.4.1.2.6 JoAnne

I don’t understand this. I attended school from the late 60s through the 90s here in the US, and was always taught that the ‘English’ spelling of a word was not incorrect, but an alternate.

          • 1.4.1.2.7 Hillary

The English spelling is an alternate (or to me, it is the American spelling that is the alternate as Britain was there before America, right??). But there are some spellings of words that have made it into the American common usage that are just wrong. For example, a lot of people in US spell “tonight” as “tonite.” They don’t even realize that “tonite” is not in the dictionary… LOL.

Unfortunately, one of these days it just might because dictionaries are based on the analysis of written documents (the more a word gets used, the more likelihood it is to be included), so it changes over time. I studied dictionaries for my degree in computational linguistics.

          • 1.4.1.2.8 JoAnne

@Hillary – ‘tonite’ wouldn’t be correct English anywhere in the world, of course! That’s written slang and if I saw it in anything other than the most casual correspondence I would be horrified. And I would never use it myself. OR Xmas.

            (spelling snob here.)

Also: even though I don’t add the ‘u’ because among Americans it would be considered a bit…hmm…well, I’d be accused of taking on airs. So for me it’s color, neighbor, etc. But I have always spelled the color ‘grey’ that way, even though for us it’s usually ‘gray’.

        • 1.4.1.3 Jennifer

lol this reminds me of when I was little and went to HK to stay with some family for the summer and my even littler cousins were learning English. My aunt wanted me to help them with their English hw so I was all proud and like yes! I know something someone doesn’t know, mind you I was like 10? at the time. Anyways the word “programme” comes up, and of course HK uses British English, and trying to be a know it all brat and extremely elated at the time I was like, ummmm I think they spelled this word wrong, it should be “program.” What kind of school is she going to, to not know how to spell and teaching these kids wrong?!

Lol, later when I got a little older and wiser, I realized it wasn’t wrong, just British English… and of course I felt like a dumba** which is why I still remember that incident.

        • 1.4.1.4 Minnetter (aka: Min)

I had a twitter rant on this last month, Ricky is a witness^_^.
I was taught British English in my k-8 school and I hate how I always get corrected on spelling, I also was scolded once by my college professor to spell “American” since I’m an American… but habits are so hard to change…

          • 1.4.1.4.1 ricky the royal highness

I spell British but I speak American. Does that make sense?

          • 1.4.1.4.2 Shukmeister

            Um, no.

But we still love you anyway.
            [ruffle hair]

          • 1.4.1.4.3 Leaf

It makes sense to me!!! After all, my friend once told me off for speaking too american!! Ha…

So basically I have a very british accent but the normal vocab (sorta… I can sound intelligent when I’m with adults…) of a typical american teenager…

ie) overuse of awesome, amazing, omg etc etc

        • 1.4.1.5 Raine

C-O-L-O-R. That’s how I spell it. When I write to British friends I change my spelling and do all that ‘s’ ‘z’ changing business too. But it’s easy for me cause I studied French and I just think French spelling.

      • 1.4.2 Shukmeister

My guess is yes, since she’s british. Also, putting “s” in words we Yanks use “z” in… :-)

      • 1.4.3 bourbon

Hooray for more people using British English! Not that i have any problem with American English, i just find it odd when people who have been spelling colour and neighbour for years, suddenly jump to the American spelling when they study in the US. Ditto the date system. I understand requiring it when you’re speaking and interacting with Americans, but it flummoxes me when its used with Non American English speakers.

Sorry, just thought i’d get it out there. Again, this is not in ANY way a prejudiced comment! Just an observation. *wipes nervous sweat off brow*

        • 1.4.3.1 Shukmeister

          :-P – And I mean that sincerely.

          LOL

        • 1.4.3.2 Leaf

Oh god the US Date system… I will never to my dying days understand that ^shakes head in dispair^

        • 1.4.3.3 Mystisith

I think what i’m using is a mix of english and american english, plus some konglish and a bit of french to look cool :)
I’m refraining from using spanish and the 3 words of japanese i know for your sake…

          • 1.4.3.3.1 Leaf

Oh don’t refrain… it’ll make me feel better when I break out my fangirl Japanese ;)

And I use British English, Fangirl Korean and Japanese and a tiny bit of Mandarin ^test on Monday ah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!^

          • 1.4.3.3.2 Raine

I use everything I know! French, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Hebrew, Italian…not that I speak any well (I can get on in French. I’m perfectly comprehensible but…the grammar is gone now!)

It’s awesome how K-drama makes us a bit more poly-lingual. I don’t think anyone here is monolingual.

          • 1.4.3.3.3 Leaf

            Yeap, I am unfortunately… I only speak english :(

But I’m learning Chinese and will hopefully learn some Korean when I go to Korea :D

        • 1.4.3.4 ahjummabunny

          bourban-ah!
          Hello!

        • 1.4.3.5 Sethe

I don’t exactly “correct” my Korean students when they use British phrases or spellings… I just tell them that’s not the American way, and let them decide for themselves :)

          • 1.4.3.5.1 Cabbage

Since I teach in Japan, and Japan has officially adopted American English, I tell my students to stick to the books. But, I still can’t accept the way we’ve bastardized some phrases, like “got” and “forgot” as past participle or “He’s taller than me.” Even as an American, I want to scream, GET IT RIGHT!

But the issue is a big one in American higher education these days. I’m with you guys on this one – if we’re going to take advantage of the fact that our native language is fortunately the international language of academics, we’re going to have to accede that we don’t own the language and should respect regional variations from international students.

I can’t imagine what college professor thinks that spelling is so very important, anyways. He or she should pay more attention to the content.

          • 1.4.3.5.2 Raine

I never ever never correct other native speakers of English because it’s different ‘dialects’ if you will with their own particular spellings. It’s perfectly legible. So why bother? I also spell theatre the French way.

    • 1.5 iZzie :)

Yeah, Kim Beom. We want the sexy you, alright. But be the healthy sexy type.

Arthritis at a very young age. Tsk. Please maintain a good weight from now on. And please don’t plunge into yoyo dieting.

      Happy Weekend, peeps! :)

MAN!!! I am so upset. I just started watching Padam Padam–on episode 6– and now everytime I see him I’ll now cry “Kim Bum nuuuuu, you’re knees! Let him eat Kang Chil, let him eaaaat!”

What the hell, that really sucks. I am so sad after just starting to really like him. ): I hope all is management 7 special exercises will work out. I really feel bad.

      • 1.6.1 Raine

Me too! Poor Bummie! I just took a bunch of screencaps of Bummie for my recap of episode 9 and he’s so handsome but soooooooo thin!

    • 1.7 cmrprindle

      Happy Weekend Leaf!

And I knew Bummie looked too skinny in the promo shots…like the way actors tend to look at the end of a drama (stressed and worn out) but nothing had started yet, and he didn’t have bags under his eyes. :-/ Poor dear.

      Anywho, how are you Leaf?

      • 1.7.1 Leaf

        Good thank you :D

Hope you had a good week!!

  2. Arhazivory

Hello OT. :D And goodbye to 1N2D as we know it. :(

Joo Won will be in though and since I like him, I’m a little happy for that but…… :’(

    • 2.1 Leaf

      I’m gonna miss old 1N2D :(

I mean, I’m not surprised that Seung gi is leaving although I love him. But I am surprised that Ji won is leaving :( I’m gonna miss him!!

      • 2.1.1 Jennifer

Ohh me too! I love Ji Won and his sneaky intelligence. I really hope he does another variety show soon!

    • 2.2 zgznoona

Who is in the final cast for the second season?

      • 2.2.1 Arhazivory

They still say its not fully confirmed but there’s Sung Shi Kyung, Joo Won and that main host guy of Win Win who wears bow ties. I also read that Jang Woo Hyuk (Jongmin’s bestie from the special) might be included. Choi PD who’s now in charge says its not yet determined if its 6 or 7.

        • 2.2.1.1 zgznoona

          So Sung Si-kyung will be one of the members.:D :D :D :D
          I love that man!!! :D
A little bit conservative for my taste, but still I love him
It’s a pity that Ji-won is leaving, though

          • 2.2.1.1.1 Arhazivory

            I agree. We need a genius. :(

          • 2.2.1.1.2 ahjummabunny

sung si kyung is conservative? I saw him on a few kbs programs- I didn’t think he seemed conservative.

          • 2.2.1.1.3 zgznoona

@bunny: Well, it’s long to explain. I love the way he talks in interviews and I show him in the viewers special and I loved him there too. But I tend to read between the lines of the interviews I read about him. I thought It was great that he said he did’t want to marry because he saw how his noona, who had great potential end up just being a housewife. But he could see it in a most constructive way and have said if I ever get married I will share responsibilities with my wife and let her be successful at work if that is what she wants.
Tat is what I mean, he was unable to realized that men and women’s roles are flexible

          • 2.2.1.1.4 ahjummabunny

maybe spanish society has a better lock on egalitarianism- societal role flexibility than the rest of the world? I find that willingness to share the responsibilities endearing but it’s unlikely that it can exist because of the learned behavior.

          • 2.2.1.1.5 zgznoona

Yeah, Spanish society is not that egalitarian either. It’s just my way of seeing things.
But I believe that egalitarianism at this moment is built individually. I know couples who are able to do so very well, but it has a lot to do with how strong the woman is and how understanding the man is.

    • 2.3 Alvina

While second seasons of anything tend to be a pain (especially if the old members leave and it’s been remodeled) I’m interested to see how this one goes… Probably going to be pretty pessimistic about it until I see it. :(

      • 2.3.1 Shukmeister

I’m gonna keep quiet until I see how it pans out. After many many seasons of “Saturday Night Live”, so seasons were better than others, and there was more than one good ensemble cast. Per the usual, I’ll watch a few episodes and render judgement then.

The first season was an enjoyable ride, my recent favorite was the kimchi ones.

        • 2.3.1.1 Alvina

haha, I wish I had your good sense. Maybe I’ve been let down enough to not want to get my hopes up? Kind of sad that I’m hung up over a variety show to this extent, but 1N2D is my prime time-pass show. I’m ~still~ bitter about the end of SGB (and Jihwaza…and X-man…etc). Need to fix that.
I honestly dont know what my favorite episode was. But, some of the most memorable ones were when they brought foreigners onto the show.

      • 2.3.2 zgznoona

Actually, I was wondering how the show started, so I went back and watch some of the older episodes. And to some degree I found them disappointing. So I think it will take a while for the new cast and PD to get it together and get use to the dynamic. I just hope they don’t get canceled before that happens

  3. zgznoona

    Happy OT everyone!!!
Another week has passed and I glad I can spend some time with all of you. :D
Do you have any special plans for this weekend?

    • 3.1 Leaf

Hmm… not really… apart from Quidditch on Sunday…

      What about you?

      • 3.1.1 zgznoona

I didn’t know you were so good with the broom.
What model do you have? :)
Not great plans for me either. I should overcome my writer’s block, and start working on my blog again. But is mostly do to emotional distress, so I’ve been watching some Japanese dramas (comedy) to compensate.

        • 3.1.1.1 Leaf

            Hi everyone, *waves*

I was away for the last 2 days (from Dramabeans website) as I was busy packing and sorting through things. I still have a ton to do, but I decided to stop by and say “Hello!” I was packing last night and taking the trash out and I was thinking of the gang on OT, and realized that I missed hearing from you guys. I couldn’t wait to see if there were any responses to my last comments on OT 225 and there was, from our favorite male on DB *Oppa to some and donsaeng to others*, Ricky, the Royal :-) (Thanks Ricky, I always eventually go and check when I write a post or a response. It was nice to see that you commented back. That actually made my day as I was exhausted from packing and hauling things around. I needed a diversion when I checked back on OT 225, and there… was your response *swoons [and kya excitedly, a la Secret Garden] and grins as she is typing*). Question, could you hear my voice in this long comment? If yes, how did it sound ? (this is related to the comment you had made about liking my long posts because they made you feel like you could hear my voice :-) )

@ Ricky (I wrote this comment first and then went back and wrote the comment above,so that ‘s why I am addressing you in this one)
Just read your comment in post 225 in response to my comment about you loving your mom and being really close with her. That is neat that you guys are so close, you are blessed to have such a mommie who dotes on her children, and who works hard. What an example she must be. I think it’s also a blessing that she is still so young, that might contribute to you guys feeling so close. And your comments brought a few questions in me: how many siblings do you have and what number are you among them (first born, second etc…)? How many boys or girls? Are you close to all of your siblings? If not, which one are you closest to?
P.S.: I can relate to you typing slowly. I don’t type that fast either, and I always reread what I wrote to correct the typos and mistakes I might have made or add things to clarify or be more specific or give examples, hence my long posts :-) .

I hope you are having a great week!

            @ Ricky,

I haven’t watched the video you posted on OT 225 (about some languages from Malaysia and their accents), but I still intend to. I haven’t forgotten, and I will let you know what I thought.

            @ Hillary:

Was hoping to find a post by you, I have been looking around so I could respond. I just read the last message you left me on OT 225 on February 9 (yesterday) and I am glad that you still know some French and that you could understand our conversation. *Yay!* Have a great weekend!

          • 3.1.1.2.5 ricky the royal highness

            @ Ivoire

Glad to see your post here!

I am the eldest son and I have a sister. My sister prefers hunky Hollywood actors. She’s not into KDramas. We are very close. We are a year apart and our way of thinking is similar. People always assume she’s older, a fact which I like to repeat every once in a while, and then she would punch my arm. But she’s a hopeless flirt and would act differently if boys are present. I shake my head every time a boy falls for her manipulative charm.

          • 3.1.1.2.6 Ivoire

            @ Ricky,

your sister sounds charming and fun! Does she OPW? (Ok, maybe not the Oppa, but does she do an equivalent of pouting and wiggling or close to it? I would like to see how she charms the boys. She must have it down to a T :-) ). So neat to know you guys are so close. You must be a great oppa to her :-)

          • 3.1.1.2.7 ricky the royal highness

            @ Ivoire

We fought a lot when we were younger, but now we have a good rapport with each other. I don’t have a brother but I doubt a brother would be able to make me laugh and feel annoyed at the same like she does. She’s incredibly witty, which is something I envy about her. Her sense of humour puts fresh perspective on everything. She’s a bit mature than I am, I think.

She doesn’t do the OPW. She probably wouldn’t understand what OPW means, too. She does this weird high-pitched voice and touches guys. Not very forward but a gentle brush on the hand, for example. We went to the same high school and there was a year where our class was next to each other. She was always flirting and charming the boys in her class. I saw her tying a boy’s necktie once.

          Hi zgznoona,

I remember you had a, um, breakup not too long ago. How is everything going? Sounds like things are still tough (although I’m just guessing that’s the reason, of course).

          All the best, truly.

          • 3.1.1.4.1 zgznoona

Sethe, you are sooooo right on your guess.
It’s been even harder now that I came back after a month with my family.
I just need to get stronger and put my life in order, but it’s not that easy.

          • 3.1.1.4.2 Sethe

I came to love a man too late, under circumstances under which it was impossible, whatever the feelings we might have generated toward each other…

His girlfriend was pregnant, and they were going to have the child.

            God, I sound melodramatic!

            Ummm…. More later :)

          • 3.1.1.4.3 zgznoona

Sethe, did you ever think on writing a script with the story? Seriously, is sad to think how important timing is in life, and particularly in relationships

          • 3.1.1.4.4 JoAnne

And so you ran away to Seoul to repair your heart? Yes, definitely, movie script!

          • 3.1.1.4.5 Sethe

            LOL!

No, at that time I drowned my sorrows in alcohol (and, um, other stupid things). Running off to Seoul came after a different emotional upset :)

(I am actually a pretty melodramatic person, now that I think about it… writing soap operas would probably be the perfect career for me.)

      • 3.4.1 zgznoona

what dramas are you watching at this moment. I know you like makjang

        • 3.4.1.1 ahjummabunny

          keurae, bunny likes makjang weepfests.
I’m watching salaryman and fermentation family right now!
I’ve started seoul 1945 and I’m debating whether or not to continue good job, good job but there isn’t any inclination there’s no chemistry, and the charm of the little girl can’t carry me through. That’s my drama plate right now there’s definitely room for more.

          • 3.4.1.1.1 zgznoona

Some how I found my self trap on melos this season. Watching Fermentation Family and Veggie Shop, what’s Up?, ah! and Moon/Sun
I sure miss a good romantic comedy.

      • 3.4.2 Sethe

I have to work pretty much all day Saturday, but Sunday I’m thinking of going to Itaewon (US/Western area of Seoul, where the US military base is) to do some shopping, particularly for shoes. My ancestors are Scandinavian and German, and these petite little Korean clothes just don’t fly for someone as tall as me…

Plus, I was just in Itaewon last weekend for a co-worker’s birthday party, and it surprised me how much I enjoyed being somewhere where everybody spoke English… Guess I’m a little homesick :(

        • 3.4.2.1 Shukmeister

          {{{{hugs}}}
Well, we type English here, so I hope that helps a bit.

        • 3.4.2.2 zgznoona

Are you working in a public school or a private one?
I’m petite so I would have a problem find clothes there. :) How much longer do you have to stay in Korea? Are you planning on staying more than a year?
Being able to communicate in your own language makes things so much easier and your brain relaxes, so you feel better. I know from experience. :)

        • 3.4.2.3 shiku

          Hi Sethe!

          Still crazy about Romney?

          • 3.4.2.3.1 Sethe

            Hi all!

@Shukmeister — Thanks :) That’s part of why I come here; I can sort of integrate my two lives :)

@zgznoona — You’re sweet — thanks for the understanding and sympathy. I’m teaching at a private school. My contract goes until June, but I actually think I want to stay longer, cause I really like my co-workers (especially one of them ;) ), and the school is OK, and I have no particular career to go back to the US for. But, we’ll see…

@Shiku — You know, I seem to be like the majority of Americans in polls; the more we get to know Romney, the less we like him. Very sad… I still vastly prefer him to the other Republican candidates, but I guess my crush has kind of abated :(

        • 3.4.2.4 Raine

It’s fun to speak such a beautiful language like Korean, but we do end up missing a tongue where we can express ourselves fully.

    • 3.5 Cruelsummer

      Hi!

Well…I had planned to go to New York for the weekend, but that was cancelled :( .

So now I plan on painting the walls of my bedroom a green apple color, taking a course in Korean at my church (They were playing Goong at the sign-up table, I couldn’t NOT sign up), and helping my kid with her school project on jaguars. Fun times.

      • 3.5.1 zgznoona

Sorry about the trip to NY

  5. Raine

    Happy OT!

I’m scared to finish WU. I don’t want it to end and I don’t wanna cry!

I’m rewatching Best Love and I think I love Dokko Jin, Ae-jung and Pil-joo even more this time around. I keep laughing my ass off and rewinding.

    PANTIES!

Wild Romance is finally starting to go the way I want it to go. Don’t kill me, but I really don’t mind Jong-hee…at all. The turn at the end of ep 12 really was annoying. I really hope the show doesn’t go that way. I hope she has more sense than that.

Deeno and I came out with our second collaborative effort on her site!

I’m on the last episode for my first recapping project, Pasta. I was doing episodes 12-20 because DB did the first 11. YAY!

AAAAAAND! My birthday is tomorrow! It came so fast. I’m not really doing anything, just going to a fancy restaurant with the fam. I’m actually working some! In the morning…

    How’s everyone?

    • 5.3 JoAnne

      Happy Birthday tomorrow!

Watch What’s Up – Cynthia and I both cried for most of the last three episodes but the last half of the last episode is..uplifting, somehow. I ended with smiles and cheers for my beloved kids, who are growing into amazing grown ups.

Oh. I watched the first episode of Princess Man. umm…why did I wait so long?

        ***Wild Romance Spoilers****

Basically, Mu-yeol and Eun-jae have a pretty heavy bickering/physical fighting relationship. He’s on the Dreamers who are the rivals of the team she ardently cheers for. Her protection of him starts as a cover up for some media story and then turns real when a stalker starts doing some dangerous things.

Mu-yeol’s got a best friend (Manzzang) who is a failed ball player. Manzzang has a wife and kid. Wifey has her own issues with mom.

The stalker could be Manzzang, wifey or his aunt. His aunt is his housekeeper who has a creepy fetish with poking eyes out of pictures and delivering them to people to get them angry at Mu-yeol.

Mu-yeol’s crazy (literally, bipolar) ex-girlfriend comes back to be with him ad she’s not that annoying, I don’t think. She genuinely cares for him but has pretty crummy timing.

We’re at the point where he finally realizes he likes Eun-jae (Whose having serious mommy issues and jealousy issues and unrequited love issues). But the stalker has gotten to Manzzang’s wife! RUH ROH!

There are also awesome side characters like Mu-yeol’s Manager Kim, Eun-jae’s best friend the reclusive reader Dong-ah (played by What’s Up?’s Im Joo-eun) a dodgy reporter turned helpful, and a pretty awesome evil side character who was the nerdy guy in White Christmas!

Aaaand. That’s it. Was that confusing?

        ****END SPOILER*****

        • 5.3.1.1 Alvina

Thanks Raine!!! Not confusing at all. I’m one of those people that is happy with a spoiler if I cant watch the drama haha. And, your summary was pretty good! I’m excited to watch it soon.

          • 5.3.1.1.1 Raine

Raine, there is nothing to be afraid of about WU ending, we talk about it. You’ll cry a little bit that’s all.
So, what did it happen with the TV appearance?
      Happy B-Day in advance
I do’t suppose you’ll be going to the place you asked me about, since it isn’t fancy at all. :)
About the ending of WR12… I think the writer will push her right till she is about to do something and then, she’ll regret it and turn around. My only concern there is the baby.
At this moment I think Jong-hee will leave by her self, now that Mr. Dense has realize his real feelings

      • 5.6.1 Raine

ZGZUnni! The TV appearance got moved to next week! I forgot to tell you. So the band has a bit more time to rehearse *phew*

I won’t be going to the place, but I AM taking my brother there. He was all worried cause he’s vegetarian I was like…um, you silly boy.

        WR – ****potential spoilers***

Ya the kid worries me most about the whole situation, but I think he could be her redemption too. I think Jong-hee is actually an interesting secondary and you could be right, she can save herself.

About your brother: I’m mostly vegetarian too. He can ask for bibim bap without the meat, eat kimchi or green onions pancakes and eat the banchan.Or they can make some changes on any of the dishes

I wonder if we could have a roll call on who belongs to whom. TBH…I’ve been lusting after your man all this week, lol. I have no idea why, maybe he was dreaming of me or something :) , but on Monday morning I woke up thinking about all things Rain.

          • 5.7.1.3.3 Leaf

            See Reply #37 ;)

          • 5.7.1.3.4 Hillary

Can we share him?? Please, pretty please??

Because my name is also Joanne (spelled differently) but decided to use my middle name as screen name because of you.

Let’s just decide to keep him for anyone with the name of JoAnne/Joanne who frequents OT.

          • 5.7.1.3.5 JoAnne

You can’t ever mention him being yours in front of me, though.

          • 5.7.1.3.6 Hillary

I will try but it will be very hard… I promise that I won’t mention on a frequent basis. I hardly ever post about actors anyway… LOL.

          • 5.7.1.3.7 JoAnne

Ok but just…keep the drool to a minimum. I’m very jealous of Baby Boy.

          • 5.7.1.3.8 Hillary

            @JoAnne: It is a deal.

      • 5.7.2 Raine

        SweetiePie-

Thanks so much! I’m glad you like our blogs. I love Autumn’s Concerto. I marathoned it with my sister and was like scratching at the computer while waiting for new episodes to load!

In term so of crazy and scary…don’t deny it people. We all kinds of crazy, yo.

And Rain…has been given to JoAnne. Just as Park Shi-hoo oppa is mine. It’s a fact of life!

    • 5.8 ahjummabunny

Happy Birthday Raine! Thanks for spending it with us.

    • 5.9 whimsyful

      Happy early birthday!

I haven’t watched last two eps of What’s Up either! What’s Up and White Christmas are two dramas where I’m keeping an eye on all the young actors in the cast, because they are definitely talented.

      • 5.9.1 JoAnne

Dolphin Boy is DEFINITELY the deaf kid from White Christmas. And love how he and the teeny boy from Eye Candy seem to be bonding a little bit. That teeny boy is SO FLIPPIN’ CUTE the way he’s always hugging his guys and resting his hands on them.

    • 5.10 shiku

Happy Birthday Raine! I hope you have a blast.

Hope your family spoils you big time tomorrow, as well as your friends.

Here’s my virtual cake for your (home-made of course, any flavour you fancy) and a big birthday hug!

    • 5.14 Deeno

I’m planning a little birthday post for Raine. I’d love to get some nice words from all or any of you. If anyone wants to contribute feel free to e-mail me some thoughts or stories. I’m planning on posting in four hours (10am GMT). That may be too soon for some, but you can stop by and wish her a happy birthday in the comments.

  6. Alvina

    Happy Friday everyone!
    1. Dusted off some of my old Garwood novels. It’s a happy place.
    2. Friends are dragging me to The Vow. Any reviews?
    3. Sad about the ending of What’s Up :/ Really loving Flower Band, though LMK’s death was pretty haunting. Always the good die young, huh?
    4. Found my mixtapes from back in the day. Found my parents’ records from back in the day. There’s always some good that comes from cleaning out the attic lol.
    5. I find myself incredibly moved by classic rock these days. Is it cliche or do guitar riffs touch anyone else?
    6. Anyone else have a “type”? I’m trying to figure out what that means… Literally, I have a list on-going of the men that I’ve been attracted to and cant really find a correlation lol

    • 6.1 Alvina

Also, anyone watch(ed) Supernatural? I never dared to go past season 3 because everyone warns me that it’ll go downhill. But, Jensen Ackles is drawing me in!!! :D

And, Hart of Dixie watchers? What is going on with Wade?! 8th grader behavior indeed haha. But, I love it. I hope they dont turn Zoe into a Mary-Sue and give her (even more) romantic interests…. There’s a rumor that Wade’s brother will be in town, and he’s a war vet…

      • 6.1.1 Raine

LOVE classic rock and the blues. Can’t help but love me some blues.

As for type, I don’t really have one either. I’m attracted to celebrities and in real life they range the gamut. One thing: they need to be confident and intelligent. I can’t stand wimpy men. GUH!

I ONLY watched Supernatural for Jensen Ackles…I’m definitely going to say he’s my type. Phew. I never finished it. So I can’t tell you. I started graduate school and t.v. watching time went down…good thing I didn’t watch dramas then…

      • 6.1.2 hipployta

I enjoy Supernatural….it all comes together in season 5…I haven’t watched all of the new season

      • 6.1.3 bourbon

I’m currently watching Supernatural, Alvina! It is so AWESOME to find someone new to educate in the Supernatural way.

Its true, the seasons beyond three may get a little… cribby. But the thing is, with a show like SPN, every season is supposed to be an arc in itself, that’s not entirely dependent on the previous season. You can see those arcs clearly defined in Seasons 1-3, but then from 4 onwards the show really develops its mythology (and Jensen ups his sexiness!). 4 introduces new characters, new story lines, and this lasts till the end of 5. Some people have found Sam a little hard to relate with, but trust me, it goes away with 5. But after 5 SPN reworked its staff, so the story may feel a little choppy and different from what it was before. But honestly, if you’ve reached the end of season 5, you’re a fan already, and you’re going to watch ahear anyway. :) I’ve continued to watch all the seasons, right upto 7, because it still… works, for me. But there are some people who can’t swallow some of the stuff that’s going on now. I’d say give it a try, to see how it fits for you.

So , to cut a loooong story short, I’d recommend watching 4-5. I’m certain the SPN claws will come out, and the show will have you hooked. :)

        • 6.1.3.1 zgznoona

          3. I’m missing What’s Up? already. I even wish there was a second season. But we all know that is impossible. Gosh I love those characters. About Shut Up, it going too melo for me, but I will go with the flow. (I think Ramyung Shop spoiled me, and I’m missing a good comedy)
          4. Finding your parents old tapes…that reminds me of my younger self, instead of buying new music, I used to listen to my parents old records and tapes. Good old times :)
          6. I’ll have to agree with Sophia and Plume. It’s easier to know what you don’t want. In any case once you meet a person, you often realized that he/she is not the way you thought he/she was. Then it is hard just to go with first “impression” types.

      • 6.1.4 kewbie

I watch HoD, and I agree, Wade acts like an 8th grader. A sexy 8th grader with a hot bod. Wait, that didn’t come out right…

Seriously, though, he needs to step up and be a man if he wants Zoe. He’s just too busy playing around with other girls. Honestly, I wouldn’t mind if George and Lemon broke up and then Zoe got with George, and Lemon got with Lavon, because Wade can always get some somewhere in Bluebell. I just feel like he’s not very serious about his feelings…either that or he’s just running away from them.

Nice to know someone else watches the show!

      • 6.1.5 JoAnne

Yes to both – have seen at least some of all seasons of Supernatural and squee over not just Jensen Ackles but also Jared Padalecki and Misha Whatever.

        • 6.1.5.1 Raine

Jensen Ackles…Jensen Ackles…yum…yum….I liked Supernatural. I miss What’s Up? I’m writing a post on it right now. Well, inspired by it. It’s semi WU and semi Raine obsessing over music.

      • 6.1.6 Jennifer

haha I did watch Supernatural just for Jensen Ackles, but then it got too scary and my tv broke and it wasn’t special enough for me to fit it into my schedule and watch it online.

But I do like Hart of Dixie. Wade is scrumptious with that body of his, though his wimpy-ness does turn me off a little. But is that a real rumor or something u just made up? Cuz that would be something interesting to see. hehe

      • 6.1.7 Cabbage

Jensen Ackles…*stares off for a minute*
Yes! My hub and I are Supernatural druggies, though Season 7 did overdose on the angst a bit. It’s also the best way to introduce him to the good American music. Without me, he’d still be listening to Carrie Underwood.

Speaking of guitar riffs reminds me of how awesome Mary Stayed out all Night could have been until it went all “Ballad.”

    • 6.2 Sophia

I just know what is not my type, I don’t think I can say what exactly is my type.
Other than the opposite of what isn’t my type…?

    • 6.3 Plume

I jused to have a type, then reality showed me I have none. :)

Have you seen the movie “Vicky Cristina Barcelona”? There one of the girls knows what she wants in a guy, the other one knows just what she doesn’t want in a guy. I’m more like the second girl…

    • 6.4 Leaf

      I don’t have a ‘type’ I have a Boyfriend :D There’s a difference ;)

      • 6.4.1 Ivoire

        Hi Leaf,

and what is the difference? PLease enlighten me and share your wisdom.

        • 6.4.1.1 Leaf

Well… as I have a boyfriend I don’t really have to look for other guys as no one would be able to compare…

Wait… it makes no sense does it? ^sigh^ It made sense in my head…

          • 6.4.1.1.1 Ivoire

I think it makes sense to me. You have a boyfriend, so you don’t need to look anywhere else and your emotional needs, some of your relational needs and stuff like that are filled. Having a “type” means it ‘s the ideal, the kind you aspire to have. With the boyfriend, the type is not necessary since you have the real thing.

            Did I make sense?

          • 6.4.1.1.2 Leaf

            Exactly :D Perfectly explained!!!

    • 6.5 ricky the royal highness

I do have a ‘type’ but it’s unrealistic.

      • 6.5.1 JoAnne

Ricky’s type is one of everything, please.

        • 6.5.1.1 Ivoire

          Ha, ha, ha, very funny!

        • 6.5.1.2 Raine

HAHAHAHA! My brother came out to ask me what was up!

      • 6.5.2 Ivoire

Please do tell: how would you like her to be like? (inquiring minds and noonas :-) would like to know…)

        • 6.5.2.1 Ivoire

Allow us to dream with you for a few moments and escape reality. If you could have your ideal woman, what would she be like?

        • 6.5.2.2 ricky the royal highness

Ahh, I never reveal my ‘ideal’ type. It shall forever be retained in my mind, until she finally appears. And then I’d be scrambling here to tell all of you about her :)

          • 6.5.2.2.1 Ivoire

Awww… why not? *OPW* (because I am disappointed, I know it won’t work, but that was the 1st thing that came to my mind).
At least you are hopeful (confident maybe?) that she will appear, that’s the spirit! And then, hopefully we will meet her, even if just virtually to at least *check her out* (cuz you know, she will be our daughter-in-law), we have to watch out for our donsaeng, aka our maknae oppa, make sure she doesn’t break his heart or she will have to deal with us (and there are a lot of us!) a la Secret Garden. How does that sound to you?

          • 6.5.2.2.2 ricky the royal highness

Don’t worry. When the time arrives, I’ll be sure to tell all of you about my (currently non-existent) yeoja chingu.

          • 6.5.2.2.3 Ivoire

            Ricky,

I meant to say, she will be *our sister-in-law,* not daughter-in-law (via OT, you know).

    • 6.6 ahjummabunny

      Primary attraction
intellectual, disinterested, deep voice, artistic, dark hair, eyes, at least 5’6.

      secondary-
continued disinterest, great talker ( I don’t talk to a lot of people but I like to talk to my people) food interest, no apparent weaknesses, well you can try to hide your weaknesses but don’t whine or ask me for help- I have a dislike for people who need things I think they should have already.

      memory fondness-( the ending attraction)
teach me something new, experience something with me neither of us have done before.

I’ve only once dated outside of type and it wasn’t a total mess.

  7. Shukmeister

    Ohayou gozaimasu!

Finished watching PdPd. (yea!) Finished watching CofW (zzzzz). Watched final of What’s Up! (I want a groovy ending!)

Started watching “Love Never Dies” – Thailand lakorn on viki.
Finished Chapter 15 of my fanfic.

Now have all my ingredients lined up to try out his SE Asia dish… let the OT begin!

    • 7.1 Leaf

      Happy open thread Unni!!!
Hope you have a good week!!! :D

(With lots of time to spend on your fanfic :D )

    • 7.2 ricky the royal highness

When are you going to cook it?

      • 7.2.1 Shukmeister

Even as we speak, the coconut rice is cooking, the anchovies are soaking in water.

And I’m staring at the tamarind…I think its starring back…

        • 7.2.1.1 ahjummabunny

have you ever had tamarind sauce/syrup or the actual tamarind in a dish or as a snack?

          • 7.2.1.1.1 ricky the royal highness

We have dried tamarind snacks here. It’s got lots of sugar. Tamarind is too sour to eat on its own, I think. Have you tried tamarind snacks, Bunny?

          • 7.2.1.1.2 ahjummabunny

yes we make a thing called tamarind ball with sugar and depending the maker it’s savory with minced garlic and ginger or just sweet. It’s a kids snack. If the tamarind isn’t ripe it’s crunchy and you can eat with salt and pepper and when it’s overripe and brown it’s tangy sweet and you can eat that on it’s own if you like that taste.

          • 7.2.1.1.3 Shukmeister

By itself, it kind of has a date flavor, but much more intense and defnitely less sweet.

          • 7.2.1.1.4 Z

In my home country (Guyana) we have sweet tamarinds that you can eat by themselves. Every once in a while my husband and I will get a box at the farmers market and devour it. We also make tamarind balls with sugar (delish!!) and my hubby makes this wonderful tamind drink that I can’t get enough of.

          • 7.2.1.1.5 Shukmeister

Thanks for the info, Z. My next culinary will probably be “The Many Uses of Tamarind” since I have so much of it. I have a lot of sabal left too, but I think that can be incorporated into dishes I already make.

    • 7.3 Shukmeister

The white coconut rice is done. Getting ready to make brown coconut rice.)

Anchovies are fried to a nice golden brown, their little faces shining encouragement my way.

The tamarind is soaking it’s onsen of water.

Time to make the ikan bilis.

      • 7.3.1 ricky the royal highness

        Yes, Chef Shukie!
Your ability to cook and join the OT at the same time is amazing.

        • 7.3.1.1 Shukmeister

Thanks, Oh Royal Pain In The….nevermind…
          —-
Kitchrn smells a bit like low tide at Rudee Inlet, but I think everything is just about done – waiting on the hard-cooked eggs and slicing some cucumbers.
          —-
I’m not sure how thick the sauce is supposed to be. It’s just at the point of not being drippy.
          —-
Most is the kitchen is already cleaned, too. It tends to be that my kitchen is cleaner after I cook than before, maybe because I leave my firstmeal dishes to pile up over a couple of days before I put them in the dishwasher.
          —-
And I still have a whole bunch of tamarind left over. Any other suggestions? It’s “wet” and seedless pulp.

          • 7.3.1.1.1 ricky the royal highness

Yes, not drippy. Can you refrigerate the tamarind?

Ooh wait, my mum used to make iced tamarind juice drinks for us. It’s refreshing and good for those with sore throat.

Lemme see if I remember how to make it.

            1. You need to make some tamarind syrup. Some sugar, tamarind paste/pulp and a bit of water in a pan. Simmer until the sugar dissolves and let it cool.

            2. To make the drink, add tamarind syrup and some water in a glass. Add sugar to taste. Top with ice.

I’m not sure about the ratio of syrup to water though. My mom says it’s up to the drinker to taste and add. If it’s dilute then add more syrup. Too tamarind-y, then add water and sugar.

            I hope this helps.

          • 7.3.1.1.2 Cynthia

Why don’t you freeze it in ice-cube trays, pop it out into a zip bag and store it in the freezer?
            :)

          • 7.3.1.1.3 Shukmeister

Good idea! Ok, now for the final presentation (with photos)

            http://www.shukmeister.livejournal.com

Rick-man – tell me how it looks (fingers crossed).

          • 7.3.1.1.4 ricky the royal highness

You could serve that in Malaysia and people would fight over it. Awesome presentation.

            How was it?

          • 7.3.1.1.5 Shukmeister

It was a lot spicier than I’m used to. The lips still feel a bit puffy, even after a couple of hours of sleep. I’m not sure how to describe it, since I don’t really have a frame of reference.

The overall taste was more complicated than say, the average dish you get at a chinese restaurant here. It reminded me of a vietnamese pho soup, especially after adding in the chili sauce, in terms of layering the flavors.

Maybe if pho was made with dashi as the stock, it would taste similarly. I didn’t really taste the prawns, but the fish essence was definitely there.

I did see why you needed some egg and green stuff to give your mouth a little break from all the spiciness. I also alternated between milk and water while I was eating.

It was a fun challenge! And not too hard to do once I assembled the ingredients.
I don’t think I’d consider it for breakfast, though, mostly because I’m a bacon-and-eggs kind of girl.
Is this what you would eat for breakfast, or would be a less spicy / more sweet version?

            —–
Note: One of the meals in the book will include midin and / or kolo mee
            —–
And, Ricky, as always, thanks for you comments and encouragement!

          • 7.3.1.1.6 ricky the royal highness

I prefer the sweeter version. I look like I’m blushing if I eat spicy food. It’s too embarrassing so I normally avoid eating spicy stuff. I don’t really eat nasi lemak for breakfast. My breakfast would normally be some toast or cereal.

What is midin again? Is it the veggie?

          • 7.3.1.1.7 Shukmeister

            Baby ferns.

      • 7.3.2 zgznoona

        You’re making me hungry.
Now I see the effects of the Diet Dr Pepper

        • 7.3.2.1 Shukmeister

Diet Dr Pepper and Italian genes, lol.

      • 7.3.3 Plume

how do you make coconut rice??? sounds delicious!

        • 7.3.3.1 ricky the royal highness

If I’m not mistaken, you use coconut milk to cook the rice. Please correct me if I’m wrong, Chef Shuk.

          • 7.3.3.1.1 Shukmeister

‘Tis correct, Maknae Sou Chef Rickie. I just sustituted coconut milk for the water in my rice cooker.

Note: Whole coconut milk makes a bettr fragrant rice, but needs to be stirred before you use it. Lite Coconut milk is more watery and can be pour straight from the can, for you health conscious people. I made both as last week’s experiment leading up to this week’s yummy lunch (I hope).

One puzzlement with the recipe. I fried the anchovies, but it doesn’t tell me what to do with them – sprinkle them on the sauce? Or mix them in the sauce before spooning over the rice? Hmmm

          • 7.3.3.1.2 ricky the royal highness

Sprinkle them on the sauce. That would be fine.
People here put the sauce on one corner of the rice and the anchovies on the other corner. It’s the same thing, I think.

          • 7.3.3.1.3 Shel "

            Thats how I make it.

          • 7.3.3.1.4 Jennifer

do u just use coconut rice or mix it with some water too?

          • 7.3.3.1.5 Shukmeister

            @ Jennifer
Just the coconut milk. I didn’t add any additional water.

    • 7.4 shiku

      Hi Shukmeister!

I wish I had your cooking skills or even a fraction of it because I seriously suck at it. Just 2 days ago I offered to cook and my fiance decided he will cook instead. Is that a testament of my poor skills?

      • 7.4.1 Shukmeister

Hee hee – I would never say I’m a good cook, but since my mother drilled into me that I have to eat my mistakes, it behooves me to at least make something I like.

I have a group of recipes that use just a handful of ingredients, but make a pretty good dish. I make these, then portion them out and freeze them. On a positive note, since I started buckling down and making my own meals, I’ve gone done 4 sizes and over 50 lbs. in the past year.

Of course, that might be because my cooking kills my appetite…

      • 7.4.2 Shukmeister

Shiku – do you live in the States?

    • 7.5 Shukmeister

Appears all done and time for the plating…

    • 7.6 Hillary

Did you actually watch all episodes of CoW? I just read the recaps from episodes 12 through 20 on “Entertaining Cup of Morning Coffee” blog and that was good enough for me. I have been so disappointed in that show and it went downhill from episode 9. I posted link below in case anyone wants to read the recaps.

      http://akikosmorningcoffee.wordpress.com/

      • 7.6.1 Shukmeister

Yes, I literally gritted my teeth and watch CofW to the bitter end. That way I can say it was done, delete all references, and never rewatch it.

What a waste of a potentially good plot and excellent actors.
I totally would have had Sora end up with Chanjin. Because there are very few “second love wins” plots, it would have been a great place to explore that.

Bad writers, bad! No donuts for you!

Ohayoooooo gozaimasu watashi no tomodachi! (OMG. I only studied Japanese a few months…and I’m already forgetting with my Korean obsession…)

How did the dish turn out? After OT imma check out the ficcie!

      • 7.7.1 Shukmeister

Dish turned out well, but spicy. Photos are on my livejournal page.

How was dinner with the ‘rents? The cow didn’t complain too much I hope. I hope your birthday was happy!

I didn’t feel like doing laundry this afternoon, so I went ahead and whipped out the next chapter (16), so feel free to be the first one to read it! Added in Ricky’s “Do I sparkle?” comment, cruelsummer’s green apple paint, and durian.

I told Ricky I was willing to type it up using the King’s English but its harder than I thought trying to remember to type funny words…feel free to let me know if I missed one.

    • 7.8 Shukmeister

Chapter 17 is hot off the presses!

      - A mysterious dark-skinned woman with short curly hair sends an unknown email.
      - Tamarind balls show up in Bourbon’s bar.
      - Fate conspires to intertwine our canon couple.
      - In the dark, a writer desperately looks for the last pieces of popcorn in her microwave pouch.

Oh, the drama!! How will it end!??

      • 7.8.1 Mystisith

*Blowing on my burnt fingers…*. Thanks Shuk.
Sending virtual pop corn to Shuk : Check the quality before signing receipt, i don’t guarantee anything.
Staring at my Yoon Shi Yoon header with the eyes of the Chat Botté in Shrek.
Seen Glowing She ep 3 ( also known as She’s insane ! ) : That show is HILARIOUS.
Seen DH2 ep 5 ( i know, i said i would abandon…. but something was cooking, i felt it ) and the last ep of Office Girls. There is a common point between the two, and i’m sure you won’t find it :) .
Answer : Both pay tribute to one of my fave movie of all times. Terminator 2, Judgement Day.
So my inner James Cameron fangirl is happy, and now i can go to bed quietly, even if tomorrow is to be a long and displeasing day.

          ‘Evening Myst.
[sends virtual aloe cream for your burnt fingers]

I’ve downloaded the first 5 eps of Glowing She, but haven’t watched it yet. Anything with crazy women is OK by me.

I’m staying away from DH2 like I have a severe allergy and it’s a huge wasp nest. I liked What’s Up, and don’t want to muck about with another Fame-esque show right now.

Just finished lakorn Love Never Dies this week, and down to a couple of episodes of Ngao Hua Ja, aka The Heart’s Shadow. Then, hopefully, I can pull back from the Thai revenge = love shows and go back to my Korean standbys.

          Take care!

    • 7.9 Shukmeister

I’ve been asked to be part of the backup band/choir for Steve Agrisano at a concert on Sunday, so my next couple of night are going to be ready the octavos and listening to the songs. Because of this, I have to start my weekend cooking frenzy early. Luckily, because I decided to to ribs, it should be easy.

So, one slap of pork spareribs, cleaned and prepped, has been broken up into two cooking attempts:

      (1) Tomorrow, marinating overnight in a bath of Sam Adams Chocolate Bock, with cardamon, cinnamon, ground ginger, and apple pie spice, to be cooked tomorrow smothered in honey barbeque sauce.

      (2) Today, moistened with soy sauce and using a dry rub consisting of Oriental seasoning packets from ramyun, augmented with finely chopped shallots and garlic powder, to be occasionally basted in a basting sauce of soy sauce and tamarind juice.

In the meantime, I’m dancing around, listening to the repertoire for the weekend, and finishing laundry. At some point in time, I’ll sleep, but right now, no rest for the wicked!

      • 7.9.1 cmrprindle

Woohoo! That should be awesome…the singing and the cooking.

        Have fun, Shuk!

        • 7.9.1.1 Shukmeister

Tks, Prindle! It looks to be a total of eight songs, but I’ll only be singing alto harmony on two them; the rest will be congas, jembe, and trap set. And one of my hand percussion team members will be there as well to layer on some rhythmic coloring.

And the ribs are smelling mighty good! ;-)

  8. Helena

I will be missing Jiwon & Seunggi… but will warmly welcome the new members… I hope they do well.

Is there any news on female lead of Uhm TW new drama? My guess is Moon Chae Won.

    • 8.1 Arhazivory

Isnt MCW too young for TW. Hmmmm…..I can’t see it.

  9. shirin-noona

Last week I posted my first ever open thread comment and to tell you the truth it was a really intimidating experience.I mean you guys all seem to know each other ,you call each other unnie and oppa and you ask about each other’s plans and stuff.I felt like you were having a party and I was crashing it.I was an open thread crasher! Anyways today I gathered all my courage again and decided to post another comment .So to all my dongsengs ,oppas and unnies here, hello and I hope you’re all well.I also wanna thank those people who went to my youtube link last week and watched my video:) (I changed my name from shirina to shirin-noona!)
    Have a great weekend guys:)

    • 9.1 JoAnne

Be brave, and expect miracles :)

      • 9.1.1 shirin-noona

        Thanksssss JoAnne,I will:)

      • 9.1.2 Shukmeister

I enjoyed your video! You put a lot of effort into it. And please don’t be intimidated; we are slightly whacked but still very good people (or at least I am) [looking around OT].

        • 9.1.2.1 shirin-noona

Thanks a lot Shukmeister, sorry I got disconnected yesterday and I couldn’t answer you,I know you guys are the best:)

          • 9.1.2.1.1 Shukmeister

No worries. Given my work/sleep/volunteer schedule, and how OT evolves, it’s a wonder somedays that anything I write makes sense, never mind any body reading it.

Just keep up the good work and let us know when your next movie is ready! Take care!

    • 9.2 Leaf

ha… I’ll speak from my own experience when I say that ‘crashing’ is the only way forward :D Everyone starts out a crasher!!

To be honest, most of it is just being ‘polite’. You don’t have to know people very well to wish them well or how good their week is. And once you start bombarding people with comments and they start replying you can have proper conversations and start being able to ask more relevent questions.
People are really nice on here so it will never be a problem :D

And about the Oppa Unni thing… well for me it’s easy as I am 18 so younger then most people but to be honest I don’t think anyone would mind if you get it wrong :D

So keep crashing!!! We love new people!! :D

So, hope you have a good week!! <3

      • 9.2.1 shirin-noona

Lol,Thanks a lot Leaf,I know everyone here is really nice that’s what prompted me to comment in the first place.Cause you know,I always read what you guys wrote here but I just couldn’t bring myself to write anything.I’m definitely going to try to be less shy. Thanks for welcoming me here.It means a lot to me.Have a great weekend:-)

        • 9.2.1.1 Leaf

It’s ok :D I’ve been new so many times by now having been online since… 12/13… and on so many websites due to my every changing fandom loyalties…

So being new online is my expertise ;)

To bad online skills don’t help you in the real world…

          • 9.2.1.1.1 shirin-noona

I’m sure you’re gonna do great in the real world as well:)

          • 9.2.1.1.2 Leaf

            Thanks ;)

    • 9.3 Mystisith

I love open thread crashers !! Damn we invent so many new words here : Sometimes i think ” outside people ” would believe we have an OT jargon. LOL.
So welcome shirin-noona. I also remember my first OT post, and now i wonder why i waited so much. :)

      • 9.3.1 shirin-noona

        Thanks a lot Mystisith.
About the words, you’re completely right, sometimes I use the words that people invent here and no one really understands what i mean:D

    • 9.4 Raine

Shirin! That’s how I joined. I crashed…very hard. Then I meant JoAnne unni and everyone and it went from there.

As for all the oppa/unni/noona/(no hyungs!!!) I started to call certain people that when I felt particularly close to them. If you want to call me unni, you can…if I’m older than you. (27 tomorrow!) There is one rather colorful fellow who loves oppa so much, that we deny our real ages just to call him Oppa – His Royal Highness (LOVE YOU my Malaysian DONGSAENG!)

I watched your video last week! So good. And she’s my favorite ballad singer. You should make Princess’ Man and Secret Garden videos!!!!!!!

      • 9.4.1 shirin-noona

Awww, thanks a lot Raine,I’m soooooo glad you liked my video and I was actually thinking of making one for princess’ man.Now that you’ve inspired me I’m gonna make one:)
Oh and happy happy birthday.I’m actually 29,so you’re my dongseng:) A lot of great things happened to me when I was 27,I hope you have a great year ahead of you as well:)
        Thanks again

        • 9.4.1.1 Raine

Shirin UNNI! There you are now officially an unni! I’m stoked to see your next video. Keep us updated!!!!!

and ricky…You WISH you were Korean…:D But if you eat enough kimchi…maybe

          • 9.4.1.1.1 ricky the royal highness

            Wish???! I AM! :p

      • 9.4.2 ricky the royal highness

        Correction: I’m Korean-Malaysian, thankyouverymuch!

        • 9.4.2.1 Ivoire

Are you Korean by adoption (or by wishful thinking) or might we eventually get a Korean daughter-in-law (you know, in-laws via OT and Dramabeans). I know your mom wouldn’t mind :-)

          • 9.4.2.1.1 ricky the royal highness

By wishful thinking, of course! Hehe “)
I don’t wish to appear vain but I have been asked ‘Are you Korean?” by strangers and new people I met quite a number of times. Those moments made me very happy indeed. But, of course, I have to be truthful and say no. It doesn’t matter though.

          • 9.4.2.1.2 Shukmeister

Nope, you’re still our Pillow Prince. :-D

    • 9.5 ricky the royal highness

Oooh another noona to coo over me. LOL

      Welcome!

      • 9.5.1 shirin-noona

Lol,Thanks a lot ricky the royal highness. So you’re the one who likes to be called oppa?it’s cute:)
Should I call you oppa too?Cause in reality I am the noona!:D

        • 9.5.1.1 Shel "

I call him oppa and I’m twice his age, lol.

          • 9.5.1.1.1 shirin-noona

            really?lol

          • 9.5.1.1.2 Ivoire

LOL, wait, how old IS Ricky, the Royal, if I may ask? (Ricky, you could give me an estimate or an “I am around…” if you don’t want to give me your real age.” I’m just really curious now :-) d

          • 9.5.1.1.3 ricky the royal highness

            I’m in my early twenties.

        • 9.5.1.2 ricky the royal highness

You don’t have to. Just Ricky would be okay.
And by the way, Shel is 16 when I’m around.

          • 9.5.1.2.1 Cynthia

            LOL, and – [snerk]
            :)

          • 9.5.1.2.2 Shel "

I even sent him a 16 yr old pic of myself so he knows who’s calling him oppa. :0)

I believe I may be the oldest one here, though not by much.

          • 9.5.1.2.3 Ivoire

Ahhh…, I see (about your age). Thank you for letting me know.

        • 9.5.1.3 shiku

Or you cud call him Ahjusii! He likes that!

          • 9.5.1.3.1 ricky the royal highness

You best be hiding behind your fiance. I’m coming with my crossbow.

          • 9.5.1.3.2 cv

            LOL you’ll funny!

I’m surprised….I usually don’t see any ahjussi or hyung in here, mostly just unni or noona.
(well, commenting that is…are they mostly just lurking around?)

          • 9.5.1.3.3 Shukmeister

            Hi cv!
I’m not afraid to admit that I’m…
            .
            .
            .
            .
            .
Not the oldest one here. But it’s pushing, it’ pushing.
            lol

          • 9.5.1.3.4 zgznoona

cv, actually I don’t know if he is around today, but John is and ahjussi.

          • 9.5.1.3.5 cv

So there are ahjussi’s in here! hehhe or guys in general. Gosh, I guess I must have assumed that the majority are noonas or ladies. I don’t know too many guys that are into dramas or if they are, they are not letting me know or hiding behind closed doors. LOL

          • 9.5.1.3.6 Shiku

            @Ricky-issi

You have to catch me first plus can you even hold a cross-bow since you aren’t too sporty?

          • 9.5.1.3.7 Cabbage

I think ajhummabunny takes the ajhumma prize. It would be so fun to get some ajhusshi’s, but let’s face it, we are sort of a niche audience.

          • 9.5.1.3.8 cv

@cabbage: I see a few names that looks like guys…they could be ahjussi or hyung. however, I think most guys are afraid to admit they like watching dramas? not as addicted? or just like to lurk around? Correct me if I’m wrong? LOL

          • 9.5.1.3.9 ricky the royal highness

            @ Shiku
I have amazing aim. You better watch your back in the following few days.

            @ cv
You are partly right. I don’t scream out “I LOVE KDRAMAS” in public, but if anyone asks, then I would answer truthfully. I know a few guys who enjoy Kdramas though.

          • 9.5.1.3.10 cv

            @ricky
^^ I’m glad you don’t hit behind the bushes but tell it like how it is. I know some people don’t like to admit that they are addicted to watching dramas.

          • 9.5.1.3.11 Raine

It’s amazing how much I love being called unni and noona. I wish we had an equivalent in English. The closest thing is when my sister calls me a nickname only she is allowed to use.

    • 9.6 zgznoona

I was once like you, not that long ago (well back in June 2011) when I first dare to comment in OT.
People here a awesome, they support you when you need to vent your problems, and they celebrate with you when you are happy.
Thanks for last week’s video. I love those who put their effort on sharing their love for dramas in a way or another.

      • 9.6.1 shirin-noona

Thank you sooo much zgznoona. You are right.people here are really nice.I mean just thirty minutes ago I was this very shy and scared person thinking that I’m crashing a party and now I’m feeling so happy and excited thanks to you guys.
Thank you for welcoming me here:)

    • 9.7 iZzie :)

You can only crash after lurking too long in DB, esp. in OT.

But hey, congrats! And welcome! Crashing here ain’t as bad as bashing – as long as you don’t do both. ;)

I feel ya. I haven’t been around much lately, and it feels like I’m no longer part of the party. Many of the DBers I know aren’t here… so I feel like I’m gate crashing too.

And by not being up-to-date with recent kdramas I feel like I went to a house visit sans gift for the host. Like I forgot to bring my bottle of wine.

      Happy Weekend! :)

      • 9.7.1 shirin-noona

        Happy weekend iZzie
I’m glad you know what I mean.I had seen your name a lot of times in my open thread lurking sessions!:D
I’m actually loving crashing here,it’s so much fun, everyone is so nice, don’t worry though, there’s not gonna be any bashing:)

    • 9.8 bourbon

Hey Shirina! We all feel like that, from time to time. My visits in OT land are so intermittent, it feels like there are new nicknames each time, and the ones i knew will have forgotten me for sure! But what gets me in, is the conversation… once it starts, it never really stops flowing. :) Best of luck on your brave venture into OT! *Grin* No worries, they’re mostly harmless. :D

      • 9.8.1 shirin-noona

        Hey bourbon
        brave venture into OT!LOL
Thank you so much.I’m sure people here will not forget you.Have a great weekend:)

      • 9.8.2 ricky the royal highness

        Forgotten about you???

How can I forget bourbon the fondant biscuit?

      • 9.8.3 Shukmeister

        Bourbon!!!

Your p’macha now has a permanent place as the best watering hole in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia!

    • 9.9 ahjummabunny

shirin-i just jump in anytime! really we don’t bite too much.

      • 9.9.1 shirin-noona

Lol,ahjummabunny.I didn’t mean what I said in that way though.I just felt a sense of closeness between you guys and I didn’t want to interrupt but now I’m so glad I did cause I found so many new chingus:)

    • 9.10 SweetiePie54

I’m a newbie as well. I’ve commented on things here and there but I am on a commenting rampage today after spending weeks thinking about commenting and today I decided to do it too :)

Have an awesomely fantastic weekend! :)

      • 9.10.1 shirin-noona

I guess today is our day!
Have an awesomely fantastic weekend as well!:)

    • 9.11 Hillary

That’s how I did it (just de-lurked over a month ago). I am glad I am no longer the “new” person on OT.

      • 9.11.1 Shukmeister

        Nope, you’re my favorite restauranteur.
        LOL

        • 9.11.1.1 Hillary

@Shuk: I did not expect so much of what I posted (both to you and Ivoire) to end up in the story… LOL. I am so honored to be a part of the OT family.

On a serious note, however, I absolutely love your style of writing. Cannot wait to read what happens next in your story.

          • 9.11.1.1.1 Ivoire

See Hillary, that’s what can happen when you open up, you can end up in a great story written by our Shukie :-)

Thank you for sharing so much with us and it was very interesting and informative. I wrote a paper back in college on Santeria and I focused on Cuba and mentioned the “Buena Vista Social Club” (the movie documentary) because it had just come out and was relevant to my paper (so I did watch it a few times). Reading about your background brought back memories of what I had read, studied and found out while doing my research (I also looked at Bresil).

I really like the diversity on this post, we learn so much about other places of the world. I appreciate that.

          • 9.11.1.1.2 Hillary

Yep. OB has created a mini UN right here … all joined together by love of the kdrama.

          • 9.11.1.1.3 Hillary

Meant OT … I guess I had OB on my mind when I wrote post.

          • 9.11.1.1.4 Shukmeister

            Glad y’all like it!
Finished Chapter 16 last night waiting for the Movie Madness to start. If you didn’t see on of my (hundreds of) postings in this thread, I’m planning to continue using british spellings if at all possible. Let me know if something needs to be changed.

            Have a good Sunday, peeps!

      • 9.11.2 shirin-noona

        LOL,there’s a newbie in town now!sorry I couldn’t answer you back yesterday,I got disconnected and I couldn’t connect again,thanks!:)

    • 9.12 alua

      Keep crashing. :-)

And have a fab weekend too!

      • 9.12.1 shirin-noona

        Thanks a bunch alua,you too:)

    • 9.13 MJP

      Hello shirin-noona! *HUGS*

Sorry I wasn’t on the OT until Saturday last week, so I totally didn’t get to meet you. Welcome to your second week of offically joining into the fray.

I remember when I first started commenting, I just jumped in with nine fingers and started typing away (we don’t use the left hand thumb when typing). Jomo and OCKoala were the first ones to give me a very warm and loving welcome.

I didn’t get to see your youtube link, so I’ll go back to last OT and look it up.

Are you going to join us for the movie tomorrow night? It sure would be great to see you there!

      • 9.13.1 shirin-noona

        Hi MJP!
Thanks a lot for welcoming me,it means a lot to me.Wow,people here are super nice,I am so glad that I commented here.I’ll try my best to join you for the movie, until then,HUGS:)

  10. 10 ricky the royal highness

Hello my oompa loompas of Korean dramas!

I watched Dream High 2 and I find that it didn’t really ‘stick’ with me. And that actor who is playing JB? Oh goodness. How wooden! In one of the scenes, he pauses, supposedly feels something and blinks his eyes.
His inability to emote is like my inability to play sports. We try but we fail and it takes us forever to get it right.

Operation Proposal looks interesting. I love whimsical fantasy-esque stuff.

I read Divergent by Veronica Roth recently. Is anyone reading it? It’s a good futuristic dystopian book where everyone is divided into factions i.e Abnegation (Selflessness), Dauntless (Courage), Candor (Honesty), Erudite (Knowledge) and Amity (Peace). It has been compared to The Hunger Games trilogy as well.

Have a great weekend, people :)

    • 10.1 JoAnne

Oh Ricky, our little Golden Ticket.

      • 10.1.1 ricky the royal highness

Ooooh, do I sparkle like Edward Cullen?

        • 10.1.1.1 Raine

Edward ain’t got NOTHIN’ on you.

I’m considering Operation Proposal but I’m having an aversion to Dream High 2. I won’t even start it.

          • 10.1.1.1.1 ricky the royal highness

I want to watch some dramas tomorrow but I received news that I will have classes tomorrow. I hate Saturday classes. They interfere with my hobbies!

          • 10.1.1.1.2 shiku

Do they just do that? Tell you last minute?

          • 10.1.1.1.3 ricky the royal highness

I got the news two days ago.

          • 10.1.1.1.4 Hillary

@Ricky: Does that mean that you are going to miss the 2nd movie night?

        • 10.1.1.2 JoAnne

          God I hope not.

          • 10.1.1.3.3 Cabbage

            I doubt it.

Hope you have a good week Oppa!!!

      Enjoying the fanfiction? :D

      • 10.2.1 ricky the royal highness

        Yes!
You and I are going to be in-laws soon. Well, if someone doesn’t kill me, of course.

        • 10.2.1.1 Leaf

HA!!! I feel sorry for you already…

But if it goes anything like a usual K drama that could take a while ;)

          • 10.2.1.1.1 ricky the royal highness

Yes. The stalker bit is pretty scary.

            @ Shuk
Do you have the ending in your mind?

          • 10.2.1.1.2 Shukmeister

            Yep, sure do.
You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll get the sudden urge for nachos, extra jalapeno.
            Just kidding.

Actually, I have only vague references in my mind, and a handful of electronic notes, but, yes, I have an ending in mind.
Part of my carefulness in writing it – my other works are decidedly more spicy than this one is going to be [taking another bite of chili-fishy-ricey goodness].

So [rubbing hands togetherr], if all things go smoothly, it’ll be more adventure and less bom-chicka-wow-wow. Hee.

          • 10.2.1.1.3 Shukmeister

            @ Leaf, yep.
Misunderstandings, longing glances from afar, maybe a face slap or too, water thrown into a face (sorry Bourbon), international terrorism…typical.

          • 10.2.1.1.4 Shukmeister

And a big hug and thank you to you guys!!

The bookblog site tripped a thousand visitors today at the onset of OT!

I know, small potatos for some, but since I started this project with no expectation other than as an intellectual exercise, I’m excited at the response I’ve received.

            [high five] Woot!

          • 10.2.1.1.5 ricky the royal highness

You fanfic is awesome bedtime reading, Shuk.

          • 10.2.1.1.6 Shukmeister

Does that mean it puts you to sleep????

Heh I’ll take it. To quote a response to a similar line in a R.H. Heinlein book:

“Truer praise an author need not seek.”
(Jubal Harshaw, Stranger in a Strange Land)

          • 10.2.1.1.7 ricky the royal highness

I don’t mean that it’s boring. It inspired really good dreams.

          • 10.2.1.1.8 Shukmeister

Sorry Tuanku. Spontaneously morphed into Sarcastic Girl, and didn’t realise it. I knew it was a positive statement.
Maybe it’s to get back at you for whinging that Nutella container at me, lol.

Also, in honour of you as my main man, I’m going to attempt to convert my frontier American into snooty British spelling for the rest of my story. I expect and request y’all let me know if I slip up.

[Throws Noah Webster's American Dictionary of the English Language (1828) out the window]
(Actually I can’t do that, because it’s in my Kindle, but consider it as symbolic) :-)

          • 10.2.1.1.9 Leaf

I’ll have you know that speaking British English has no such correlation with such snobbery.
Why, if you hear our many accents every region and social class can be represent accurately from the standard RP to the farmer dialect of the South west (unfortunately where I was brought up…) and many others. To say someone speaks with a British accent is to imply a vast range of possibilities each with its own distinct vocabulary and emphasis.

            :P

Seriously, though, never having done any more UK than read Jane Austin, I’m going to give it a try. I just know from the get-go I’ll be making mistakes.

I’ve already corrected the latin derivatives in my fanfic, and I should complete the greek derivatives and commonwealth spelling by tomorrow.

          • 10.2.1.1.11 Leaf

            Haha… seriously don’t stress about it :D
When english is typed it’s hard to tell the difference (only a few different spellings) as no one would guess that I was from england most of the time… but when I speak all you Americans would ‘omg you sound so cute!’ heh…

Seriously I had a US girl say that we had to become friends cause I was british…

But I speak very very standard english… think… Harry Potter? LOL
But when my Mum is on the phone she sounds like a 50s BBC news reporter ha! (think VERY VERY posh and stereotypical…) And to think she used to be a very very southern US gal… ^sniggers^

    • 10.3 avi

I read Divergent during Christmas Break, during my annual Dystopian-YA binge. It was by-far one of the best YA books I read last year. Another really enjoyable one is Enclave by Ann Aguirre!

      • 10.3.1 ricky the royal highness

Enclave looks like a good read. I’ll see if I can find it in the library or the bookshop.

Divergent was amazing. I can’t believe it was Roth’s first book. Which faction do you like best? Would you make the same decision like what Beatrice/Tris did? To leave your faction and go into the unknown?

        • 10.3.1.1 avi

I rather liked the idea of Erudite – knowledge is power and all that jazz =D I think that leaving my faction would most depend on my family’s reaction, since I’m super close with my parents. If they would disapprove, I’m not sure I’d be able to muster up the courage to leave – even if it means denying my true self. It’s a dilemma, eh? How about you?

I can believe it’s Roth’s first book… I cannot believe she is 23 years old though. Seriously, how did she become so talented at so young? I feel like a total mud-rag now T_T

          • 10.3.1.1.1 Shukmeister

Ok, downloaded Roth for my Kindle. Don’t know when I’ll get to it, though.

          • 10.3.1.1.2 ricky the royal highness

I don’t know, honestly. I could be a Divergent because I don’t fit into any of the five values. But this little online test says I’m Amity. Ridiculous. I don’t run around singing songs and hugging people.

    • 10.4 zgznoona

I’m also considering Operation Proposal, but I have too much on my hands at the moment.

      • 10.4.1 ricky the royal highness

I went for to have very spicy Indian food with my friends three hours ago. They were laughing at me because I was flushed red. And they kept on touching my cheeks to feel my temperature. I curse my complexion sometimes.
Then we went to have some desserts at an ice cream place, returning my skin to its original colour.

        And how are you, zgznoona?

        • 10.4.1.1 ahjummabunny

I want indian food! I can get all types of asian food delivered except indian food!

          • 10.4.1.1.1 Raine

We have 2 great Indian restaurants here. I’ve been hankering to go but no one likes Indian food but me…I’m like the only one of my friends who ventures into Asian food. REAL Asian food. Not sweet and sour chicken…

        • 10.4.1.2 zgznoona

So it was Indian food what made you face go red. I was wondering about that.
Your friends just wanted an excuse to touch you :P
Do you know I really ended up buying the Nutella?
I’ll blame you for all the weight I’ll gain. Nah, I kidding. But the jar is half way down.

          • 10.4.1.2.1 ricky the royal highness

            YES! Join the Nutella wagon.
I just bought a new jar myself even though the one that is opened is still quite full. Always stock up on your Nutella supply :)

Yay, love Nutella, ever since I was a child. Ricky, do you buy the small jar or the big one?

          • 10.4.1.2.4 JoAnne

Now that daughter is home from school, we have two large jars in the pantry. Both open.

          • 10.4.1.2.5 Ivoire

            @ JoAnne,

She must really like the Nutella, huh… I like it in moderation, but last time I bought some I bought 2 because I was at COSCO (equivalent of Sam’s club in the midwest) and they sell a pack of two. SO I will have them for a while.

          • 10.4.1.2.6 JoAnne

LOL, Ivoire – she had a jar, and I had a jar. Now we are both in the same place, and so our jars are, as well.

I buy the large one. It’s more economic.

          • 10.4.1.2.8 Raine

OMOMOMO I love nutella. Ricky and I had a whole nutella twitter session.

    • 10.5 iZzie :)

Have a great weekend, too, Ricky!

Too bad, there seems to be no vibrating-buttocks-worthy drama lately, eh?

I was excited re: dh2 at first too, but…

      • 10.5.1 ricky the royal highness

True. The VB need to make a reappearance, seriously.
I’ll still watch DH2 though, well at least for a few more episodes.

        • 10.5.1.1 iZzie :)

I hope it gets better. I’m so stuck in a drama-non-watching rut. I never thought I’d miss my addicted days.

          2012… what’s the matter?

          • 10.5.1.1.1 ricky the royal highness

Let’s hope Rooftop Prince and Twelve Men in A Year would be awesome!

          • 10.5.1.1.2 Leaf

            Hmm… I’ve had this too…
I started feeling I was watching anything just because it was around…
So I quit so many of my Dramas (even What’s Up and History of a Salaryman even though everyone’s raving about them…)

            It’s odd…

          • 10.5.1.1.3 iZzie :)

Talking about Rooftop Prince… I’ve thought about writing a similar story – only it’s the other way around: modern girl tours a palace, enters the wrong door and comes out to old Korea. :P

*sighs* If only I was given the gift of writing…

Ah, yeah. Let’s keep our hopes up! I really miss watching good dramas. And then having a fun conversation about them here.

I even miss watching kdramas that are so bad, they’re so fun to discuss with DBers. :P

          • 10.5.1.1.4 ricky the royal highness

I agree with both of you.
I think it’s normal for us to feel suffocated sometimes especially when we are watching too many dramas at the same time.
And I love with when people in the OT give out suggestions to make a bad drama better. Drama writers should stalk us.

          • 10.5.1.1.5 Shukmeister

            @ IZzie:)

Wouldn’t that plot be like InuYasha? Yunno, without the half dog / half demon, everybody’s dying for a stupid pearl motif.
            LOL

        • 10.5.1.2 Ivoire

Please guys, enlighten me: what is a VB worthy drama (how are they?) and give me some examples, please… and I don’t know if I should ask this, but why would the buttocks vibrate (Ricky, that is just my very inquisitive mind asking, just so you know and I asking very innocently, I am not being fascetious).

          • 10.5.1.2.1 iZzie :)

LOL! Just a disclaimer: only RTRH is capable of VB. :D

          • 10.5.1.2.2 ricky the royal highness

It’s just one of my many lingos in Db.
Sometimes when we are watching a very funny scene we can’t laugh because we are in public/library/office. But the laughter has to go somewhere, and I always thought that the gluteus maximus would be the perfect destination.

You’re watching a funny scene but you can’t laugh. So your top half stays immobile but your buttocks vibrate instead. Does that make sense?

P/s The VB is also a very tough Kung Fu discipline. LOL

        • 10.5.1.3 Hillary

I don’t know how you are able to endure DH2. I stopped after episode 1 (the welcome party pretty much sank it for me … as well as those really superficial idols). And I know javabeans/girl friday indicated that they probably won’t be providing recaps after episode 4.

      • 10.5.2 Raine

izzie…VB…totally forgot about that! Stoke about Rooftop Prince!

Heehee. K-drama just makes me cackle.

At the end of WU I was BAWLING and then Soo-bin plays the violin and i CRACKED up. It the worst faking I’ve ever seen and it made me feel better. Thank you for relieving the tension.

(For those of you who don’t know, I’m a professional cellist…so I notice stuff like that.)

    • 10.6 RooRocks

      Ricky,

I loved Divergent too! I can’t wait for the new one coming out this spring. I think Hunger Games and Divergent similar, but Divergent felt more positive (you know in a dystopian kind of way) to me. Also, I think Tris make more active choices for herself where Katniss is reacting to the actions of others around her. But I love both!

      • 10.6.1 RooRocks

        *are* similar

      • 10.6.2 ricky the royal highness

You are correct! I like Tris more than I like Katniss. Tris is stronger and the way Roth writes makes her character very real.

        • 10.6.2.1 RooRocks

I agree – I was totally drawn into the world Roth created. Tris progressed and grew in a very realistic way. The part with her parents broke my heart – especially with her dad :(

          • 10.6.2.1.1 ricky the royal highness

            Her mother was awesome though.

    • 10.7 Ivoire

      Hi Ricky,

I have seen that term before, Oompa Loompa. What does it mean?

      • 10.7.1 Shukmeister

        Iv! Welcome to the thread.

Oompa-Loompas are fictional characters from the 2-book series “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” by Roald Dahl.

They were identified in the book as short, with green hair, orange skin and white pants with protruding knees. They were brought to the chocolate factory as workers from another world where they were persecuted.

Ricky is using it as a euphemism for “minions”.
        ***

        • 10.7.1.1 Shukmeister

          And, according to Wikipedia,

“Oompa-Loompa are also mischievous, love practical jokes, singing and are very good at improvising according to Willie Wonka. As each bad child makes his/her exit (throughout the book), Oompa-Loompas sing moralising songs accompanied by a drum beat, and tend to speak in rhyme.”

          • 10.7.1.1.1 JoAnne

That would be us, alright. And Ivoire, my calling Ricky our Golden Ticket was another Charlie and the Chocolate Factory reference.

          • 10.7.1.1.2 Ivoire

            @JoAnne,
Thanks for the explanation. I did see that movie a long time ago (I didn’t sit through it, I was busy doing something else and every so often, I would watch). I remember the Golden Ticket now…
In your eyes, what would make Ricky our Golden Ticket though, just curious. (No offense, Ricky).

          • 10.7.1.1.3 JoAnne

Because he’s a prize, of course!

          • 10.7.1.1.4 Ivoire

Ah… I see! He is a prize, of course. Thanks for reminding me:-) And he is very blessed to be surrounded by so many women (who dote on him).
            Ricky, remember that :-)

          • 10.7.1.1.5 ricky the royal highness

You people are so cute! Adoring yours truly like that :D

      • 10.7.2 ricky the royal highness

JoAnne and Shuk explained it perfectly!
Sorry for not being able to reply because I had to sleep early and attend class.

        • 10.7.2.1 Ivoire

          Yes Oppa :-)
I understand. School is important and we want you to do very well!!!! So do what you have to do and don’t worry about us. JoAnne and Shuk did do a good job of explaining it. Thank you unnies.

Bonjour Ivoire? Comment allez-vour mon amie?

(last time you spoke French was 6 years ago, or did you have 6 years of French, I didn’t understand what you were trying to say). Did you learn French in High School, college?
Passe une bonne fin de semaine! (Have a good weekend!)

  11. 11 Mystisith

Welcome to New OT everyone !
Just finished Padam a few minutes ago and cried buckets of tears. That and What’s Up final yesterday : I think i’ve done my quota of crying for 2012. Now i can’t help smiling stupidly at the sun behind my window. The weather has been so cold this week, we still have a thick blanket of snow.

    • 11.1 Alvina

I know, it’s weird right? And, we were pretty much warned about the sad ending in What’s Up since episode 1… I can’t believe that it took me aback when I finished watching it. It’s no 49 Days, but it’s sufficient enough to make me sad when I think about the series now :/

    • 11.2 shirin-noona

Is it that sad?I was planning on watching it,but if I’m going to cry buckets of tears I think I’ll pass.

      • 11.2.1 zgznoona

It’s not that sad. You might cry, but you’ll laugh too, and you’ll love to see the dreams and hope of the young characters take shape and grow.
There are drams that leave you heart broken, and What’s Up? is not one of them.

        • 11.2.1.1 shirin-noona

I’ll definitely watch both of them, thanks!

      • 11.2.2 JoAnne

It’s sad good, not sad bad. You’ll cry but half the tears are happy, and the final feeling is happy. It’s worth it.

        • 11.2.2.1 shirin-noona

what matters is the final feeling,so I’m gonna watch it.Thanks.

      • 11.2.3 Cynthia

Here’s the thing about watching Kdrama – if you’re afraid that it might make you cry then you’ll be missing about 99% of all Kdramas ever produced.
I’ve been watching for years now and I’d be hard-pressed to come up with one where I didn’t cry about something in it. Granted, there are some dramas where you KNOW that you’ll be sucker-punched in the tearducts (Stairway to Heaven, Winter Sonata, A Love to Kill, etc., ad nauseum) – heck, I never watched the final episode of Chuno cause I just couldn’t stand to see my hero offed.
I’m convinced that Koreans view death in a different way than we do in the West. It must be the Confucian (?wd?) aspect.
So, be brave and go for it – just keep a supply of tissues at hand. As for What’s Up! – it shines. Enjoy!
        Oh, and welcome! :)

        • 11.2.3.1 shirin-noona

          Thanks Cynthia
I know ,I have cried in every drama that I have watched, but I recently finished a thousand days’ promise and it just wore me out.I cried buckets…I don’t think I can bear to watch something that sad for a while…but since you guys think it is worth it I’m going to watch it:)

          • 11.2.3.1.1 Cynthia

TDP killed ALL of us – but we knew going in that it wasn’t going to end up in Happyville. WU! is a totally different animal – the writing and overall ambiance of this is superlative.
            :)

      • 11.2.4 Raine

Shirin unni – WU is WORTH IT!!!!!

        • 11.2.4.1 shirin-noona

I’m definitely going to watch what’s up.I’m currently marathoning me too flower(I know I’m way behind!),as soon as I finish it I’ll start Wu.

    • 11.3 TiaC

I saw this morning that episodes 19 and 20 of Padam Padam are now subbed on Dramafever, but for once I am not devouring the episodes. I just know that I am in for two hours of pure heartbreak, even if I am confident that it will be done skillfully. I am also dreading that this series is going to be over! Gah!

      • 11.3.1 Hillary

Finished watching those two episodes… And you won’t be in for “two hours of pure heartbreak” though it did make me cry for about 5 minutes. It had a good ending (I think).

  12. 12 aoiaheen

    Hi everyone!

Bogged down with work this week :( So i’ll won’t be sticking around.

How’s everyone doing? I loved MoonSun and shutupBB this week. Miss Lee Min Ki though :(

  13. 13 cherkell

Happy Friday OTers! I hate hate hate having to do hit-and-runs, but a full day of court hearings await me and I need to scurry off to the mines. These cases aren’t even mine to begin with, but a HUGE flu bug is going through the office right now and co-workers are dropping right and left around me. I seem to be the Last Paralegal Standing right now (and wouldn’t that make an interesting title for a KDrama, ne?); hence, it’s back to the schedule from hell again.

No real news from NorCal this week; just putting the head down and the nose to the grindstone. I did finally catch up on “What’s Up” over last weekend, and sobbed my freakin’ eyes out for Manzzang… sigh. Have “Operation Proposal” queued up for checking out over the weekend — it’s totally criminal that Un-ah and Dongsoo-ah are going up against each other with overlapping dramas for the next few weeks, dammit!! :)

And speaking of BVS, oh for lame it has gone all goofy (goofier?) on us with a dark twist in the storyline (and it takes all my strength to not yell through my keyboard as I watch for recapping), and it’s really hard to watch Wookiekins cry all the time now, but we were treated this week to JCW singing a cover of “Rain” at a noraebang scene and I’m hoping it makes it to the OST. Regardless, I still love those Veggie Boys and I will follow them to the bitter end…. ♥

So before I leave, shoutouts to everyone who pops in after me. And a big HUGS!! to Shel, who hopefully got through her medical stuff this week with flying colours — check in when you can, sweetie!! I should be back in time for Round 5 at Bourbon’s… save me some snacks!! Laters!

    • 13.1 Alvina

good luck with all of that work~! I hope you’re not too tired after…and if you are, perhaps it’ll make for even more satisfying drama watching? haha.
You’re not the only one who had their heart broken over What’s Up :(

    • 13.2 cherkell

BTW, if you guys are frantically awaiting BVS Episode 15 to air on DramaFever (as I am), we’re going to be waiting a bit longer. They have run into serious problems with the licensing for replay of the tunes the group was singing in the noraebang scene, especially the cover tune Changwook-ssi was singing. You’d think that the DF lawyers would have been on top of this, as we found out in Episode 11 that they had to swap out the song played in the Pool Room/Nose Kiss scene for another version because they couldn’t obtain the proper copyright clearance in time for the rebroadcast. Eeedjits.

Sorry. There’s no ‘Off Switch’ when it comes to legal issues with me… :)

      • 13.2.1 JoAnne

I’ve been wondering where the heck it was!

      • 13.2.2 JoAnne

Hey – it’s on DF now. I just watched the first couple minutes, which would be the continuation of the scene on the bridge between the two, and oh my goodness. I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone be so cold. What that must have cost her…and Wookie’s face :(

        • 13.2.2.1 cherkell

I got an e-mail from DF saying they cleared the rights at around 7:15 PST just as I was turning into the driveway of my house, and couldn’t run fast enough inside to watch!! I checked the running time, and my heart sank when I saw it was 2:15 less than the raw feed I watched Wednesday morning. Did they end up cutting out the noraebang scene after all?!? Oh poopie!!

So I just finished with another viewing… excuse me while I pick up the mountain of wet kleenex that has accumulated around my chair. Lord knows how at the ripe young age of 24 that JCW can summon up such emotions like that, but this time I noticed that his tears were drawing tracks on his stage makeup!! And we get a little bit of the ol’ Baek Dong Soo ‘chin wiggle’ again which made me smile through my tears. :( But I am really glad that the rebroadcast is whole, because those songs were a huge catalyst for setting up the plot for the last few episodes.

Welp, I’m toast so I’ll beg off now. See you all tomorrow night for Dramabeans Theatre, Part 2: Electric Vindaloo! :)

          • 13.2.2.1.1 cherkell

P.S. I was so worried that DF would cut Wookie’s song, so I uploaded that scene to my Tumblr page — one of my followers was so nice to capture and send it to me for ‘preservation purposes’. Good thing Channel A hasn’t been very vigilant about trolling for copyright violations. Yet. ;)

          • 13.2.2.1.2 JoAnne

Your JCW is completely adorable and irresistable, that’s for sure. But for me he’s the kind of guy you look and think ‘oh, what a cutey’ but no lecherous stirrings until some time later, when he’s had a chance to woo you. Enormous gorgeous from White Christmas, on the other hand…he inspires lecherous stirrings right up front, and then later, when he’s had a chance to woo you, you think oh, he’s completely adorable.

Not sure which progression I like better…I’ve had both in my life!

    • 13.3 Raine

Cherkell – *hugs* you’ve worked hard!!! What you do is aweeeeesome!

  14. 14 minhee

I’ll miss 1N2D so much… Seung Gi and Ji Won ah… You’ll be sorely missed…

  15. 15 jazza

I’ve been fan of 2 days & 1 night since 2007. Seunggi was the reason that made me watch that show. And in season2 he’ll not be there. I think I’m gonna cry while watching the last episode. T-T

  16. 16 Sophia

    Hey guys! Happy Friday!

I haven’t been keeping up with Moon-Sun episode-wise, but I have with the recaps…. I wish there was more development for Seol.

I skip episodes 17-19 of What’s Up (but I read recaps, and I have to say that episode 20 was rather disappointing. Idk, I sort of expected more. But What’s Up was, overall, great. Maybe if it had had more episodes, more things would have…. made sense?

I can’t seem to make a proper effort on watching Bachelor’s Veggie…. It’s too much crying = too much effort for me to get through.

I want something fun, lively, not so mucked up in tears and strife and miscommunications…. But, obviously that isn’t really possible in dramaworld…. Not that I love it any less, it’s just harder to… get into/keep with. That’s why I’m not keeping up with History of a Salaryman at all. I guess that’s just not my type of drama, though.

I actually love Shut Up! Flower Boy Band. Lee Minki’s character was seriously amazing…. It’d be interesting to see his development….. But man if Sung Joon isn’t as/closely magnetic, I don’t know what is.

    • 16.1 kaleido

I am with you on ep 20 of WU… i love the drama to piece.. but i found the last 2 ep very rush.. I would love to get more closure for each characters.. the last epi sort of give u bits and pieces of what might happen to the characters in the future.. but very brief… so i left a little bit unsatisfy… but overall… i enjoy this drama very much.

      • 16.1.1 shiku

This is exactly how I felt, the story being left incomplete.

    • 16.2 Hillary

Loving Shut Up Flower Boy Band and Sung Joon’s acting is superb (he is not good looking but just strangely magnetic … I don’t know how to describe). I was not a Lee Min Ki fan but I must say that he did a great job.

      • 16.2.1 JoAnne

I think Sung Joon is very handsome, but the bozo hair is a bit distracting from that for you maybe? He has beautiful, intense eyes, and that strong jawline. I wouldn’t say he was pretty, he’s much too masculine for that – but he’s certainly easy to look at and I think as he gets older he will be even better looking.

  17. 17 ilukd

Happy Friday all the k drama lovers …. Sad about 1N2D …. LSG goodbye … Will miss you so much … Hope new one gets as much love as old one
Me loving the flower boys band …. Coolest drama ever seen …. Liking sun and moon drama

  18. 18 Shel "

Hey ya’ll….I’m alive and kicking and now minus one very big alien thing growing in my belly. They did a preliminary pathology report and said that it’s not cancerous…it’s just a cyst. I’m still in the hospital, but they have wifi. It’s really slowwwww….so I can’t try and stream anything, but I can probably pop in the OT in between nurses visits and visitor visits. The plan is to go home tomorrow, but we’ll see.

I brought my laptop with Salaryman and What’s Up downloaded on my harddrive. But, mostly I’ve been sleeping. My roommate is this 95 year old lady who is a crackup. She’s very nice, but very hard of hearing and her hearing aid is broken. But, I hope I’m that chipper and alert at that age . She’s very proud of it, so she tells anyone who comes in. She’s going home today, I’m gonna miss her.

I caught up with Moon/Sun before I came here, now I’m anxiously awaiting the next Padams…the streaming was so slow here that it drove me nuts…so I’ll watch it at home. Oh and FF, also…LOVE that show.

OK, I’m gonna sign off for now, but I’ll be back sometime today to see how everyone is doing.

    • 18.1 Alvina

I really hope that you feel better soon. I dont know about you, but after the initial 2 or 3 days of the hospital, it becomes kind of unbearable if not for visitors haha. I’m glad that you had a good roommate though haha.

      Good luck with everything :D

    • 18.2 Raine

SHEL!!!! *HUGS* I’m so glad you’re okay. Surgery freaks me out.

      • 18.2.1 Shel "

I’m still a little freaked out myself. I’ve had lots of surgeries, but mostly bone related. Knees, the finger that got broken into half a dozen pieces, C-section when my teenager was born. C section is probalby similar, but I had so many other distractions at the time…it was a last minute decision due to some complications…that I didn’t have time to worry about it.

This time I managed to laugh it off to everyone else and just my poor hubby had to put up with the freaking out part, lol.

But, it went better than expected, I’m glad it’s over, but we’ll see if I have the patience to convalesce.

        • 18.2.1.1 Jomo

Hope you feel well in and out!

By the way, I can see why they would do a C-section for a teenaged baby! LOL!

          • 18.2.1.1.1 Shel "

LOL. that did come out funny, eh? it’s the drugs talking, lol. But, my doctor just came and she says she’s cutting me off. :0( This is one of those pump things where you push the button when you need a shot, lol .

          • 18.2.1.1.2 Cynthia

        • 18.2.1.2 Sethe

Shel! SO glad to hear things went well, and that it’s just a cyst.

Hope the convalescence goes well — try to take all the advantage you can of having to rest and have people take care of you :)

          Keep us posted!

        • 18.2.1.3 Raine

I’m glad to hear your doing better. My mom has to have surgery in a few weeks and I’m taking the day off to be with her and sleep by her that night. HOpefully you have everyone around you. (but with your family, I know they are!)

I think a Congratulations! is in order for it to be benign. Get well rested and stay healthy! At least now you can use watching dramas as a recovery excuse right? Oh… you know what, I think watching another drama will heal me right up! hehe

      • 18.8.1 Shel "

I came to the hospital with my laptop and the harddrive full of stuff to watch. But, alas, I think my painkiller is putting me to sleep….I can’t seem to stay awake through more than about 20 mins of anything. But I have at least 2-3 weeks at home before I’m allowed to go anywhere. That’s when the dramawatching wil really start. ;0)

    • 18.12 Hillary

I am glad you are okay. Use the time to watch kdramas.

Like you, I also walked with my laptop when I went into hospital in November. However, hospital had an excellent wifi connection, so I was able to steam my kdramas to my heart’s content. The nursing staff all looked at me as if I was crazy. The good thing about having surgery (besides fixing the problem, that is) was that I had lots of time on my hands to watch dramas and peruse the blogs in as I was on short-term disability for 6 weeks and now working from home through February.

      • 18.12.1 Hillary

        Meant “stream”

        • 18.12.1.1 Shukmeister

Welllll, they can be steamy, you know…

          • 18.12.1.1.1 Hillary

I wouldn’t describe them as “streamy”. The movies (or at least) some of them may be but not the tv shows. I think I watch kdramas because they emphasize the romance as opposed to the more “steamy” side of things (i.e., sex). Otherwise, I would have probably stuck with watching the shows on Showtime, HBO, etc. Now some of those shows are “steamy.”

    • 18.13 aoiaheen

Shel! Glad to here that you’re doing ok. Hope you feel better soon.

    • 18.14 alua

      Get better quickly!

Sucks that you can’t stream dramas without going crazy b/c of the speed (or lack thereof). Hospital would seem like the perfect place to marathon dramas…

Hope your family takes good care of you too.

    • 18.15 Shel "

Thanks for all the well wishes. My daughter hung out with me today so hubby could go back to work. My doctor came in a bit ago, cut me off of my morphine supply and said I could go home tomorrow!

Yay, a whole night of sleep without being awakened by bloodpressure/temp/oxygen checking. What will that be like? Of course, I probably won’t be sleeping until after the movie night is over. I plan to be there unless visitors keep me from it (which is always possible, I guess)

My sister is coming tonite to stay with us for a week, and my daughter in law is coming the end of next week for a few days, so we have lots of help.

The sisterwives have ferried my daughter everywhere, fed my hubby a couple of times, and sisterwife H came over the night before I came in and cornrowed my hair so that it wouldn’t drive me crazy while I was here. I love those guys.

    • 18.16 Cabbage

take care and enjoy the hours to yourself. Remember, you’re sick, so gorging on dramas and chocolate is totally okay.
er, maybe not chocolate. better stick to the jello.

      • 18.16.1 alua

        haha, love your comment Cabbage!

      • 18.16.2 Shel "

If I never see jello again, it will be too soon. Ugh. They finally let me eat real (?) food, or what passes as real food in the hospital yesterday. I didn’t have one jello today, which made me happy.

Hubby brought me a chocolate fix yesterday, but I was wishing it wasn’t all gone tonite. :0)

        • 18.16.2.1 Cabbage

Well, v-day is just around the corner, and you know what that means?
HALF OFF CHOCOLATE ON FEB 15!!!

          • 18.16.2.1.1 Shel "

LOL. My daughter in law and I always hit the stores the day after Christmas, Valentines DAy and Easter to buy the 1/2 price chocolate.

Hubby bought me Trader Joe’s Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter cups. YUM!

  19. 19 SweetiePie54

Hola OT’ers! I hope everyone had a good week. I am in the busiest season at work so my drama watching is seriously lagging. I am keeping up with Wild Romance which I really like though it does have its flaws. I haven’t been as annoyed with the show as the chicas (and possibly chicos) on Soompi though. Reading their comments has been interesting….

Has anyone checked out the Peninsula or Feast of the Gods? I’m about 30 minutes into FotG and I’m waiting for the tragic event to happen that will affect the heroine for the rest of her life. I know they just started but are they worth checking out?

    • 19.1 cv

      spoiler!

Feast of the gods–girls switched lives… I’ve seen too many of these dramas. Kinda got sick of it. Watched first episode and stopped. If you like this kind of storyline, I say give it a try. LOL

      • 19.1.1 SweetiePie54

Switched lives. Totally not what I thought would happen….hmmmm…to watch or not to watch? That is the question.

    • 19.2 shirin-noona

I don’t know whether I’m gonna watch feast of the gods, but since the perfectest of the perferct oppas ( lee sang-woo) is in it,I’ll probably check it out.

      • 19.2.1 SweetiePie54

I have an affinity for Joo Sang Wook so I may watch this for that. Plus it revolves around food and the foodie in me is screaming in delight at the possibility of food porn.

    • 19.3 Hillary

I watched 2 episodes of Korean Peninsula (Hanbando). I think that I will continue to watch but too early for me to recommend to anyone. I like what I see so far but then I like politics.

  20. 20 Raine

Okay guys, I’ll visit tonight. I’m bringing my laptop in. Pray for a good diagnosis. If not, I’ll be visiting on someone else’s computer…they better realize that once I get my paws on it…

  21. 21 sophie k

    Happy Friday everyone!
And I want to rave about how much I adore Dong-ah (Im Joo-eun) and Kim Tae-han (Kang Dong-ho) pairing in Wild Romance! It’s the FIRST time I’m shipping the second leads in 2 years of drama-watching and they’re also the only reason that I am still watching Wild Romance.

The couple should get more air time!!! Stoic Tae-han and unpredictable Dong-ah is fast becoming my most favorite l-drama couple of all time. I love how weird they both are.

    • 21.1 sophie k

      *k-drama

    • 21.2 kewbie

I love Mgr Kim and Dong-ah, too! It’s too bad they’re having problems right now but I want them to kiss and make up soon! They way thick-headed Mu-yeol is going, I wouldn’t be surprised if Mgr Kim and Dong-ah have their first kiss before he and Eun-jae do. Crossing my fingers!

    • 21.3 Hillary

That is definitely my favorite couple on the show. His expression (or should I say, lack of expression) just kills me every time. And she is so wacky, I keep on thinking, what will she do next?

    • 21.4 alua

I love Dong-Ah and the robot more than the main couple. I mean they are fine too but Dong-ah and the robot, ahhhh! I could watch them for the whole hour of the drama.

      • 21.4.1 Sophie k

Yes! They should just do a drama on them both. I always fast forward to watch their bits first before watching the entire episode.

      • 21.4.2 Sophie k

Btw alum how’ve you been? I’ve FINALLY submitted my 40,000word thesis.
How did your phd presentation go?

      • 21.4.3 Sophie k

@alua btw how’ve you been? I’ve FINALLY submitted my 40,000word thesis.
How did your phd presentation go?

        • 21.4.3.1 alua

Went well… ha, that feels so long ago already (and I have been so busy since then), that I barely remember it! I’m deep in more university work already… (more work for the PhD and teaching the MA students).

How about you? I imagine you will have to wait for a while to get your results?

    • 21.5 Raine

I LOVE them. They are so cute. Im Joo-eun is one of my favorite actresses now!

  22. 22 Plume

    Hello everyone!

I skipped worked today because of a bad cold AND ALL I DID WAS LAUNDRY. Sad, huh? The thing is i’ve been in dramaland for over an year now and it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find and enjoy a good drama. I’ve started several but none really manage to capture my interest, except for maybe Cofee Prince, but that’s a cult classic so it doesn’t count. The problems is that the plots and characters are designed after the same patterns so now nothing really surprises me.

Some examples: the first episode of Material Queen was magnificent but I expect the rest to be very predictable. Protect the Boss is ok but also full of cliches. The World They Live In is so damn boring. I finished Lie to Me is the worst thing I’ve seen this year. I enjoyed SUFlowerBand because of the adorable Lee Min Ki but I fear the rest of the drama will be sort of like Heartstrings but in darker colours. :(

The good news is that I met so many new people lately, I don’t feel lonely or bored any more. I’m also starting to cook again, any suggestions of dishes or recipes would be much appreciated :) .

    • 22.1 Brainy

Please watch Brain. It is a really good drama in terms of casting, plot, storyline and directing. I am rewatching it this weekend.

      • 22.1.1 SweetiePie54

I’m on episode 8. I wasn’t going to watch it but it’s airing on KBS America and I am hooked. So good.

      • 22.1.2 Plume

Ok if i can manage to download it i’ll give it a try! ;) Thanks for suggesting it.

    • 22.2 Leaf

Ah Material Queen… you are right :D The first episode is magnificent… along with Episode 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,10…. and by good I mean best drama ever good…

However once you reach episode 10/11 it becomes one of the worst dramas ever… seriously unwatchable…

      • 22.2.1 Mystisith

Material Queen – sigh – What happened to my poor Vaness ? It’s not like he’s a bad actor, we know he’s good. But when he becomes the trendy cool musician ( my god, that hair : I wanted to grab a mower and his head to rectify ). I wish i didn’t saw that drama.

    • 22.3 SweetiePie54

I started watching dramas a couple of years ago and recently went through drama fatigue. I have SO many dramas that I have started but have yet to finish which is rare for me. I’ve recently just got back into watching again, but I haven’t really caught any new shows save for Wild Romance.

I’m getting back into cooking as well. I’m a hoarder of cookbooks and a bookmarker of food blogs and I’ve decided to finally start using them again. :) Fodd blogwise I recommend tastespotting.com.They always showcase recipes from different blogs that always look delicious. If you want a dish, there are a couple of risotto recipes that I recommend. I like Saffron Parmesan risotto or Lemon Risotto which is in Giada De Laurentiis’ cookbook Giada’s Kitchen (but I’m sure it is online somewhere). Fair warning though the Lemon Risotto is SUPER LEMONY especially if you have leftover and try to reheat it. The mascrpone cheese cuts the sourness of the lemons the day you cook it, but disappears the next day. I can eat lemons raw so it doesn’t affect me much, but I do still have some eye twitching.

      • 22.3.1 Plume

Lemon risotto? how wonderful, I definitely need to try it. I’m only ‘specialized’ in pasta so far but i really love rice and trying new ways too cook it, other than it was made home, would be really interesting. I’m also considering buying a rice cooker, but I don’t know if I can find a decent one here in Europe…

        • 22.3.1.1 SweetiePie54

I love me some pasta. If I had the kitchen space, I would buy a pasta maker and make fresh pasta all the time. Sadly, my kitchen can barely fit me.

I was contemplating getting a rice cooker. I actually saw a cheap one in the store last night and almost bought it. My rice consumption has gone up exponentially in the past couple of years. So quick and easy to make-some rice, fried eggs, gochujang or tabasco and there’s a meal. :)

          • 22.3.1.1.1 Plume

You don’t need much space for pasta, really. Some can be cooked right before they are cut, just watch some Jamie Oliver videos, he makes his own on the spot. The pasta cutter that I’ve seen are also very small. You can dry the pasta on a sheet of paper, you don’t really need to hang them like in the k-dramas :) .

There is only one small asian shop in the city where i live, so i’m afraid they weill only have a cheap kind of rice-cooker, probably even a counterfeit :( . I’ll go maybe tomorrow to see what they have to offer.

        • 22.3.1.2 Hillary

If you like rice, I can provide you with a recipe for a mixed rice cook-up (all in one pot) Trinidad dish called pelau. I have made it for co-workers and friends in US and they absolutely rave about it. Let me know.

          • 22.3.1.2.1 Shukmeister

            [perk]

Sounds like bibimbap, my favorite Korean dish: rice, sauteed veggies, thinly sliced beef, and an egg. Like a skillet but with rice substituting the potatoes…

            What’s in pelau?

          • 22.3.1.2.2 Plume

Please do share ;) I’m very interested in rice of any kind.

          • 22.3.1.2.3 Hillary

Pelau has rice, pigeon peas, carrots, meat (chicken or beef), seasoning (onion, chive or green onions, parsley, celery, ginger, green peppers, ketchup, salt, pepper, and any other non-salt powder seasoning that you fancy), browning (my mom burns sugar but that never works out for me, I use soy sauce) and a small bit of butter. Usually, it is 1 tin of pigeon peas to 2 cups dried rice and 1 chicken (cut in small 2-4″ pieces). So my method is to season chicken with seasoning described above (I use lots of green seasoning … at least 2 bunches green onions or chive, 1 bunch parsley and celery to your taste … finely chopped … do not use green peppers at this stage). Add in the water from canned pigeon peas and the browning or soy sauce. Make sure that the mixture is not too salty and let marinate for about 3-4 hours. Then, in a large pot, you need to put in 2 tbs butter. Once brown, put in the chicken or beef and let brown. Then, add the seasoning mixture. Cook until chicken/beef is half cooked. Then you add enough water (to achieve a 2 cups water to 1 cup long grained parboiled rice ratio) for the rice that you will be adding, carrots and pigeon peas. You will need to adjust seasoning at this point (make sure it is not salty and it should have a nice dark brown color). Once mixture is boiling, add rice. Once it is boiling, reduce stove temperature to low, add cover to pot and essentially steam cook the rice. About 10 minutes before rice is cooked, add in the green peppers (or orange/red/yellow peppers) and 2 more tbs butter. Stir until cooked. If done correctly, this dish can actually last in a fridge for a whole week (the taste peaks in 2-3 days as the seasonings really soak in). I prefer non-sticky rice so I use less water (about 1/4 cup less). Once completed, the rice should be a nice golden brown color, and you should see the different vegetable colors.

Get well soon, Dr. Plume! :)

Me too, I’m suffering from kdrama drought. I thought DH2′s gonna pull me out of it, but…

I’m downloading Moon-Sun episodes now. Basing from my friends’ feedbacks, I think I’m gonna be hooked, but until I see it…

G2G! In 15 minutes my New Girl – 2 Broke Girls – Vampire Diaries – Gossip Girl weekend catch-up TV will begin.

Have a nice and healthier weekend!

      • 22.4.1 Plume

Gossip Girl! I used to watch that, until a few episodes ago. All that ACTA craziness closed down the website where I was watching it. But the truth is 5 seasons is too much even for a show like Gossip Girl because, let’s face it, nobody in real life has only good looking friends and family who all hook up between themselves and have no hard feelings afterwards.

A nice happy week-end to you too! ;)

        • 22.4.1.1 iZzie :)

” only good looking friends and family who all hook up between themselves”

True. It’s the reason I didn’t get past season 2 of dawson’s creek… a decade ago. :D I skipped at lot of GG in the past seasons, maybe that’s why I am able to endure the latest one. I just have to do some catch-up reading as to who had hooked up with who in the past. Lol.

    • 22.5 Jennifer

Is the Material Queen you guys are referring to a Taiwanese drama?

If so, I might go watch it since at least part of it’s “magnificent.”

      • 22.5.1 Plume

Yes, I think it’s Taiwanese or Hong-Kong since they speak Chinese. I’ve only seen the first episode but I was really impressed – technically it was very well done, rather like a movie. It also had som sort of western feel, probably because of the setting (Paris!). So you can watch the first episode as a movie and then decide if you want to see the rest :) .

I really don’t understand why dramas really do have to drag the stories for 16 episodes. 10 episodes or even 8 would be more than enough, for most of them.

    • 22.6 shiku

Hope you feel better Plume. I am currently in the same boat as I don’t know what to watch and the ones I want to watch probably won’t get subbed for a long time.

      • 22.6.1 Plume

Yeah, Vampire Idol for instance! So frustrating, I really felt like watching a parody.

    • 22.7 Shukmeister

Plume – good seeing you again.
For variety, why not try Thai or Taiwanese? There’s been a couple of movies / shows that liven up my asian fix.

      Just a thought.

      • 22.7.1 Plume

        Hello!

Mmm i did watch some TW or HK dramas (Silence, Beauty Knows No Pain), also movies, but what bothers me now is that all that I’ve seen before was done with fresh eyes, not that I’ve watched about 20 dramas probably and lots of movies as well nothing makes me feel some sort of emotion as I once felt. I can’t sympathise with the characters any more and the stories seem repetitive.

    • 22.8 alua

How far did you watch Protect the Boss? Although it’s a little long and some of it is not that very interesting there are also parts where it definitely isn’t cliched. The love rival is very refreshing (I want more of her type in k-dramas) and I loved the friendship between the three girls.

What dramas did you enjoy in the past?

I get what you mean though. Now that I have watched a significant number of dramas already, I’m a lot more inclined to drop them the moment they start to annoy me. Wasn’t so picky at the beginning…

      • 22.8.1 Plume

I’ve just seen the first episode but it felt like rewatching ten other dramas in the past. :) I might watch the rest of it slowly since it’s already in my computer, but i’m not really looking forward to.

In the past I’ve enjoyed stuff like BOF (duh!), Secret Garden, I Need Romance, New Tales of Gisaeng, City Hunter, The Woman Who STill Wants to Marry, Dal Ja’s spring, Cofee Prince (i’m halfway that one actually). I liked a bunch of japanese stuff too, like Zettai Kareshi and a few others.

I wasn’t really impressed with drams like Baby Faced Beauty, Best Love, Lie to Me, Colour of Woman, Myung Wol, Heartstrings, etc etc etc.

        • 22.8.1.1 JoAnne

Plume, give it more of a chance. Ji Sung becomes more adorable very quickly (like, episode 2) and the relationship between the girls is an absolute highlight for 2011. I thought the lead actress had a slightly irritating voice but I became very fond of her as she displayed both backbone and vulnerability very well. JaeJoong was capable in his role, and balanced a very fine line between good guy/bad guy. Ji Sung’s dad and grandma were AWESOME.

          • 22.8.1.1.1 Plume

If JoAnne says so, then Plume will give this drama a seocnd chance :) .

          • 22.8.1.1.2 JoAnne

Ok! I think it’s only stupid for a couple of episodes towards the end, so if it starts to get stupid for you, you can really skip them – and go straight to the last episode. But the rest of them are worth it!

    • 22.9 Raine

I heard Brain was fantastic and I will definitely get on that soon.

You feeling better Plume? I’m not much of a cook or else I’d give you something tasty!!!!

      • 22.9.1 Plume

happy birthday Raine!!! may all your finest wishes come true! ;)

well i have an ugly cough now but luckily one of the friends i made here promised to bring me the proper medication tomorrow so i won’t have to get out in the cold again… i haven’t had such a bad cold in years.

  23. 23 JoAnne

    Good morning Beanies!

First off: Shel is doing great, everything went well, and the news is apparently positive. so yay! She might be around tomorrow night.

Gonna snow all day tomorrow here in lovely shoreline CT, so I’m picking up groceries tonight and tomorrow is going to be cookies and hot cocoa and maybe something yummy and comforting for dinner like shortribs (cooked with tomatos, carrots, onion…served over polenta. It’s like italian beef stew, kindof.) And dramas!

Finished What’s Up. Perfection. Nothing to say, really. Best.drama.ever.

Finished Padam Padam. It’s wierd but I lost interest after episode 17. I watched 18 in full and then last night I fastforwarded (and then backed up and replayed some scenes) from 19 and 20. It ends well, in the sense that there are no twisty endings where it all goes south and you’re screaming at the screen. And yes, it’s sad, because I mean really – the guy has cancer. It’s painful in every way you can think of. And I shed tears at certain points, and my admiration for Jung Woo Sung knows no bounds…but even while I was leaking tears, my heart wasn’t BREAKING, you know? I just kept feeling ‘of course, of course, this is how it will be.’ My feelings were more acceptance and recognition than sorrow, and even though it literally ends on a joyful scene, I was not overcome with happiness for these characters the way I was for my kids in What’s Up.

As mentioned earlier, I watched the first episode of The Princess’ Man this week. Cheeky! Subversive! I enjoyed it and wondered why I waited so long.

I also watched Temptation of Wolves – on Ionair it’s known as Romance of Their Own, for anyone who’s been looking for it. My 16 year old inner child was IMMENSELY THRILLED. My adult self recognizes the weakness of the characterization and plot movement, but doesn’t really care, because my 16 year old inner child was pretending to be her with that dishy boyfriend and that tragically romantic and adorable – other guy. Don’t want to spoil it for those who don’t know the story. Grown up me would have told the dishy boyfriend to get the F away from me with all that macho bull…but there’s no part of me, ever, that could ever send away Kang Dong Won. In that role, or any other.

Ring Ring Bell is progressing, though not at marathon pace. Didn’t have the mental stamina this week for marathons. Get to enjoy my Veggie Boys this weekend. Wookie crying stayed with me all week. ‘Ga On, I’m hurting. I’m really hurting.’ And tears? Lord, have mercy.

Shut Up, Flower Boy Band. Thank you, DramaGods, for giving me this show to soothe the pain of losing What’s Up.

    • 23.1 Mystisith

I know that feeling: Dreading the end of a show cause you like it so much, then finding another crack that sends you even higher. It’s like being Tarzan swinging from one liana to another, fearing it may brake.

    • 23.2 John

You’ll enjoy TPM ( Caution tearjerker ahead )

      • 23.2.1 Raine

LOVE TPM. Worth the utter dehydration from tears!

    • 23.3 ricky the royal highness

Temptation of Wolves? Isn’t that the one with Lee ki-woo (Flower Boy Ramyun Shop’s Onion)?
It’s one of my first Korean movies. Tragic but good.

      • 23.3.1 shirin-noona

I don’t think lee ki-woo was in that movie ,yang eun bi was in it not pillar!

        • 23.3.1.1 ricky the royal highness

Ahh, no wonder I got it confused!
Lee Ki-woo was in Sweet Lie. Now I remember. I watched that movie last week.

          • 23.3.1.1.1 Twinkles

Hottie Lee Ki Woo was also in He Was Cool – great movie, I always end up watching this movie when I get bored and want to watch something that I know I will enjoy – fluffy teen romance. Alas, he was 2nd lead in this one as well………………….

      • 23.3.2 JoAnne

Jo Han Sun is Dishy Boyfriend. Lee Cheung Ah is country girl. Kang Dong Won is…he’s just…

        he’s the boss.

        • 23.3.2.1 Shukmeister

Set “Temptation of Wolves”it for download/vaulting until I have free time.

      • 23.3.3 Raine

You know, I was adverse to tragedy, but meeting JoAnne unni and the K-drama has changed all that. It’s too addictive to steer away from.

    • 23.4 zgznoona

Good to hear Shel is doing well. I hope we can see her around tomorrow.
I think we feel similar about Temptation of the Wolves. It was one of my first kmovies, and cried like there was no life afterwards, but it is sooo cheesy.

      • 23.4.1 JoAnne

Cheesy. Yes. But cheesy in that way that…if you see it at the right time of your life (I’m guessing probably teen years in general) – it actually stays with you forever.

        • 23.4.1.1 zgznoona

          That’s probably true

    • 23.5 shiku

Was Shel sick? Is she ok?

You absolutely have no complaints on What’s up?

      • 23.5.1 JoAnne

Shel had surgery but it went well – she’s up there, somewhere, posting (earlier in the thread) with more details. She wasn’t sure she would be able to get here so I said I would share that it was good news. And then she made it in, and apparently we were posting at the same time, but she finished first.

Re What’s Up: my only regret is that we didn’t get to see the full length episodes. I think some of the complaints others made would have been addressed, that way. But no one really has any major complaints, and I think, taking the plot and characterizations as a whole, that it was perfect.

    • 23.6 alua

I’m dreadfully behind on Padam Padam (not even sure what episode I last watched… maybe 12?) but darn that doesn’t sound too positive what you write.

Shut up Flower Boy: hihi loving that too. But wondering whether I should hold off on it, because lately I end up reading recaps and then not watching, or half-watching and if it’s a drama that promises to be as good as that it might be better to totally ignore the recaps and also wait till the drama finishes and then marathon it. Don’t know. I’m trying to rework my drama watching habits because I have been dropping stuff that’s good and that I enjoyed because I get distracted or too busy and because subs can be slow sometimes… and if too much time passes it can be hard to get into them.

      • 23.6.1 JoAnne

Alua – Padam is worth watching…I think that my reaction is more about me than it is about the drama, so don’t be put off by it. Perhaps the majority of my tears were just used up by Sun Man dying.

Padam is a beautifully filmed, ultimately uplifting and positive story about ‘the human condition.’ All of the actors involved gave skilled, believable performances. In fact, I think some of the most beautifully touching scenes I’ve ever watched take place in this drama. Certainly some of the most romantic ones do.

If I have any complaints, it’s that the whole subplot about proving his innocence felt like a distraction to me, even though it was woven into the fabric of every relationship in a very organic way. All I ever cared about seeing, though, were the relationships between various people. And I can’t think of one pairing (romantic, familial, work-related) that didn’t ring true.

********Possible spoiler ahead, but only kind of sideways************:

The angels, though – I don’t actually think that was handled well. Fine, if we’re angels for each other. But then why does he have ACTUAL wings? Does he seriously have a chance to go to heaven that way? Does his realization of something toward the end make him fully human, or heal his psychosis? WAS it psychosis? Other people saw the wings. The wierd time shifts happened. I would have liked that to be explained a bit more.

        • 23.6.1.1 Z

Yeah I don’t know why they introduced the Psychosis in the first place… was it just to make us doubt our own eyes? They mention it once and then never again. I kind of understand what they were trying to do with him choosing to stay on earth and with everyone being Angels for one another but it was a little clumsily done.

  24. 24 Eked

Thanks to the History of the Salaryman recaps I’ve finally started getting into the show properly – although funny elevator scenes are still pretty much Protect the Boss’s main selling points!

I don’t know if I’m being an idiot or just blanking, but I was writing about PTB and I realised I can’t think of a female equivalent of the word ‘bromance’ – is it that rare in K-drama? Suggestions (or the proper word!) welcome.

Tried Korean Peninsula, very dodgy first episode. Some silly hairstyle acting from the person I assume is the male 2nd lead, and who doesn’t seem to be an actor. Female lead seems to swap between perfectly coiffed jumpsuits and then quite randomly to smart black suits for no reason (and in one odd scene male lead seemed to change outfits in seconds – continuity issues?). But the whole – intro male lead as hero was as poorly thought out as the last thing I saw on a rig like that, Sector 7. Do we add SPOILER tags?

    SPOILER Korean Peninsula

The entire place being deserted so he had to go down in the first place, then stuck life, then stuck oxygen (although once he’d shrugged it off why he didn’t then swim round the other side was a bit baffling), first she was about to go down then suddenly she was back at the console, why they all headed up and no-one stayed at the vid screen to suggest – oh, look, someone else is there. Why no-one tried to go over the side when the door stuck in the first place

It’s all this kind of silliness that sometimes made it feel like Poseidon with better actors.

Actually, I should qualify that – I thought Lee Shi-Young was excellent in Couples and other stuff so for her I’d happily except the terrible script was the problem.

Apart from that just watching Fermentation Family which alternately annoys me and captivates. The former – unless this is common in Korea? – the habit of them all standing round and staring at people eating freaks me out. The latter – I love the way it has undermined common drama tropes by people just doing right away what everything is thinking – none of this birth nonsense rubbish, just get a DNA test. Don’t hang about when you know something and let it stew for the next 20 epis – just ask them. The writers are also, I think, very good at working the various storylines in and out, creating new ones for a short period, and keeping the balance with ongoing ones sitting in the background. My only wish would be better acting from the male lead.

    Anyhoo – female ‘bromance’. Help?

    • 24.1 ahjummabunny

there is no female equivalent to bromance. bromance is the word used to describe an atypical friendship between men- the type that most women already have with work colleagues even.

      • 24.1.1 Eked

Sorry, I’m not really getting what is being meant by ‘atypical’ here :) . Work friendships are still friendships, whether male or female?

I’d always taken it as a celebration of a male friendship, even an initially fractious one, ah la the male buddy type movies. And I don’t think, generally, men have friendships in any different a manner than women do in the normal way of things?

Since PTB has that wonderful developing relationship between the 1st and 2nd female leads – pretty much unique amongst the K Drama I’ve watched so far – it seemed an appropriate analogous term, given where I’ve seen it used on here when certain shows are being discussed. I think!

        • 24.1.1.1 Eked

I think I might have got that smilie wrong too!

I forgot to say thank you for replying – at least it means I’m not being an idiot and forgetting something obvious.

        • 24.1.1.2 ahjummabunny

sorry I sometimes type less than I think. I mean that the typical female-female relationship even one with mere work colleagues and not close friends has the warmth and care that we are fond of in the relationship between men we refer to as bromance. bromance is an atypical or outside of the normal relationship men have with each other- or the relationship men in stories have with each other.

    • 24.2 TiaC

It’s not exactly equivalent to a female bromance (and I agree that I’m not sure something like that exists), but if you are talking about the relationship that forms between Na Yoon and Eun Seol, I think that they develop from ‘frenemies’ to ‘besties’. On a personal note, their friendship is one of my favorites of recent memories, especially when we consider the fact that they are supposed to be the traditionally warring first and second leads.

      • 24.2.1 Eked

OOooo – I like ‘frenemies’ very much.

I thought it was wonderfully done as well – especially coming off a run of shows where you could conceivably end up hating your own gender.

    • 24.3 Cynthia

We had this same discussion on a past OT thread. It seems to me that one of our favorites was ‘WOmance’.
      :)

      • 24.3.1 Mystisith

Oh, i love that one : Womance ! Added to dictionary.
I’d rather see stories having light hearted one than Thelma and Louise versions though.

      POSSIBLE SPOILER RE KOREAN PENINSULA

I swear that I saw a “tail” like a mermaid when the North Korean agent was underwater. Of course, it was late at night and I was looking for something to put me to sleep … so could have been my imagination as well … LOL.

      • 24.4.1 Eked

And suddenly the series sounds just a tad more interesting! :)

      • 24.4.2 Hillary

But I really think it was my imagination.

        • 24.4.2.1 JoAnne

But I really hope it wasn’t.

    • 24.5 Ani

      Fermentation Family:

I’ve found that when they’re standing around staring at customers eating, it annoys me too. Creeps me out to no Iend. XD But I do love how things are in constant motion in F-Fam. I love the leads. I love the chemistry. I even love the gangsters – they’re hilarious I tell you, but are also scary when they use their brains. I love the food. I love the scenery. I love the verbal exchanges. I love Ho-tae’s journey to unlocking his past and establishing a future. Onward I say. Onward.

      • 24.5.1 Eked

The food is amazing. I got really worried near the start because a few episodes in the subs seemed to stop translating the food inserts but fortunately it was only temporary. So much I want to try to make myself!

Also, I was a little hasty on the lead – just watched epi 19 and I thought he as very good.

      • 24.5.2 cv

Yesh, I love the foooooood tooo. I’ve never had real home made Korean food and I plan to someday. Soon I hope! (or learn to make them! yikes!) (sigh) Otherwise, I also like the leads–so cute together. The family’s just so nice and humble–taking anyone and everyone in who needs to be fed. I didn’t mind the staring as much–them just wanting the person to enjoy the food. LOL

  25. 25 ahjummabunny

    yoroboon!
I hope you’re all well! I finally started and gobbled up the new dramas. I was so smug about having a lot of episodes to watch while you were all waiting for each week for new episodes and now I’m in the same boat! I started the giant alums dramas ( fermentation family and salaryman) I will start padam padam next. Salaryman is hilarious- I am laughing so ’til! I almost couldn’t breathe while watching the dinner scene. I’m waiting for the drama like 49 days to be announced though. I remember last year around this time we were languishing and then a ray of light! It’s true we’re not really languishing this year but I feel somewhat ho hum all the same.
What’s the news about the movie tomorrow. Please give details organiser types!

hey Bunny! i remember from a past post that you like Hiro (jap actor) right? i’ve recently seen a short movie with him that might catch your attention ;) .

      • 25.2.1 ahjummabunny

        hi plumey,
ehm I can’t say I know which hiro you’re talking about. The only japanese actors I know by name are yamapi- yamashita tomohisa and narimiya hiroki. Is hiroki the hiro you’re talking about? which movie is it?

        • 25.2.1.1 Plume

yes yes that Hiro! ;) he’s in a 15-minute movie from a compilation of 4 short japanese movies called Sweet Room (i found it on doramax264). it shows looots of skin so not for kids, but I doubt you’re younger than 16 ;) . i was actually surprised to see a j-drama actor in such a movie, but i must say it’s pretty well done and the guy is a feast for the eyes :P .

          • 25.2.1.1.1 Cabbage

            hey, ajhummabunny!
ha ha – I watched those as I was going through a Kaname Jun withdrawal post “Untouchable.” Low on the plot but high on the hot. Keep the kids out of the room when you hit play.

Shel : So happy for you and relieved. :)
Now a lot of sleep and some korean porridge ( tchuk or something ? ).

jook – rice porridge, a variation of which can be found in pretty much an Asian country.

      • 26.1.1 ricky the royal highness

I’m Asian. My mom makes rice porridge whenever I get a sore throat.

      • 26.1.2 laya

We have two kinds of rice porridge in the Philippines, sweet and salty. It’s called champorado if it’s got chocolate and milk and sugar in it, and lugaw or caldo if it’s got meat in it, like chicken or tripe, and spices like ginger and garlic. They’re usually breakfast food, although lugaw is also often given to sick people.

    • 26.2 ahjummabunny

we make a rice porridge in guyana it’s sweet and spiced ( cinnamon, nutmeg, clove)and we usually serve it with milk or heavy cream. I suppose it’s similar to what is called rice pudding in other parts of the world. when I first saw the korean rice porridge being prepared I was put off- not only about the texture just the idea that there is mussels in my rice porridge! We serve soup to sick people though.

      • 26.2.1 ricky the royal highness

        That sounds really yummy!

      • 26.2.2 JoAnne

Yes, here it’s soup, too. Usually chicken noodle, or even just the broth. Your rice porridge does sound like rice pudding.

      • 26.2.3 Hillary

Are you from Guyana? Really? Someone from my neck of the woods. Trinidadian giving a shout-out to fellow Caribbean kdrama addict.

        • 26.2.3.1 Raine

That’s awesome. I have a really good Trinidadian buddy! :D I love my Caribbean friends. You guys are spicy and fun!

We do chicken noodle too. Or matza ball soup (my mama’s Jewish)

    • 26.3 Shukmeister

I have a porridge that I make for breakfast: cooked rice, milk, honey, ginger, cinnamon, blueberries, tempered egg. I make a batch of it, then portion it out and freeze it.

      It’s yummy and it’s purple, so it’s a win-win!

    Happy Friday everyone! ^^
Hoping all have a great weekend!

Dramaland: Best drama so far this year–>(only half way thru) Moon embracing the Sun—altho it kinda dragged little in the last couple of episodes, still very good. I hope the show pick up the pace again. hehe

Fermentation/kimchi family–consider a family show? It is awsome. It has a storyline, happy, sad, frustration, and suspensful moments–each episode seems to have a wonderful meaning to it. It’s not as fast paced but a great drama with beautiful senic surrounding.

Dream HIgh2—what can i say about this one? Let’s hope it gets better?

skip beat–So cute! Siwon–he’s hot so I’ll keep watching. LOL

    • 27.1 Hillary

I have gotten so used to the 2 dramas a week, that Skip Beat’s 1 drama a week pace is killing it for me. But I will continue to watch because of Choi Siwon.

I love MoonSun (love the fact that viki is subbing … their turnaround is so fast) and Fermentation Family (hopefully episode 20 will be out when I reach home). Cannot get into DH2… Prefer Shut Up Flower Boy Band (and finally found a way to stream it on TvN).

      • 27.1.1 JoAnne

I watched on MSN, live, via Ionair.tv

All I did was click – and then scream when I saw what was on. Why was a TvN show on MSN? I don’t know. But it was.

        • 27.1.1.1 Hillary

          Confused… MSN on iOnAir.tv?

Did you mean MBC for MoonSun (I stream that live on iOnAir.tv)? TvN has Shut Up Flower Boy Band which I stream live using SOLIVE (wish SOLIVE has close captioning capabilities like iOnAirTV as their quality is better and there is less buffering than other sources).

          • 27.1.1.1.1 JoAnne

Sorry! I watched it on MNet, via Ionair.tv Streaming live.

      • 27.1.2 Ani

Part of me is glad Fermentation Family comes out with subs over the weekend so I can watch it without worrying about getting up early for work. But I also hate it since it means I have nothing to talk about this week except for the last week’s episodes. Hahaha. But beggars can’t be choosers and I’m thankful for it. Yay for F-Fam love.

        • 27.1.2.1 cv

Heheh Yep! I haven’t checked dramafever yet but I can’t wait for episode 20. Now it’s another week of waiting!ahahahahahha darn it!
At least Skip beat will be subbed by Sunday, I hope!

          • 27.1.2.1.1 cv

Just finished watching episode 20 of fermentation famly! OMg! can’t wait until the next episode. why or why is it only friday? LOL

  28. 28 -K

‘Stalled’ is the word of the week. Got stalled on Color of a Woman, seriously how is one tiny misunderstanding able to stretch for over 16 episodes? Stalled on Wild Romance once they introduced the ex-girlfriend, ALWAYS the ex-girlfriend, blech! Oh Take Care of Us Captain I have renamed to Woe Is Me. So I guess the only drama I’m able to watch is History of a Salaryman, fun stuff. Started watching the J Drama Lucky Seven and that’s been pretty good. Enjoy your Friday folks!

  29. 29 shiku

    Happy Friday everyone!

So I marathoned What’s up this week and it’s a good show but I feel like the ending is incomplete. I mean I want to know how Do Sung’s mother will react if she finds out he is Hades again? Is their connection found out by the public? Did the musical department win the competition although their goal wasnt to win? Did Tae Yi come back to study in the school? Did she get back with Jae Hun? How did the case turn out?

I started watching Shut Up: FFB and I was surprised how much raw and gritty it is. I like it.

Watched the movie Crucible/Silenced and it was so gut-wrenching. It blows my mind how adults could do that to helpless kids like that and get away with it. I hope the cases are re-investigated.

I also watched the movie Blind with Kim Hanuel and it was an awesome but tense movie.

    American Shows:
Who is watching Revenge? This show knocks my socks off with it’s twists and turns. I can’t wait for next week. I wonder who stole her box? Tyler? Ashley? Fake-Amanda?

Smash anyone? Who do you want to play Marilyn, Ivy or Karen?

I watched the Touch preview and it was awesome!

    • 29.1 cv

I’ve been meaning to watch Blind but haven’t gotten to it. I keep hearing great things about this movie. Hmm, I’ll probably watch it this weekend just to see how good it is. ^^

      • 29.1.1 shiku

        You should, its awesome

        • 29.1.1.1 Cynthia

Ditto! It’s really, REALLY good! KHN won a Best Actress award for it.
          :)

    • 29.2 JoAnne

Smash – my heart breaks for Ivy but I think it’s Karen. Touch WAS awesome, can’t wait for that.

      • 29.2.1 shiku

Yeah Touch was awesome. I never really thought about how many lives I touch before or how many people have been here, etc.

I am want both of them to win as they are both good but I have to go with team Karen

    • 29.3 zgznoona

I’ve been looking for Crucible/Silenced with subs. Where did you watch it?

      • 29.3.1 shiku

dramacrazy(dot)net. But its sad and infuriating at the same time.

        • 29.3.1.1 zgznoona

They have finally subs in dramacrazy? Great
I know about the story. By the way, I’m a social worker specialize in child welfare so I’ve been keeping an eye in this movie for a while.
I think is it commendable that this movie generated such a huge social movement that they change the laws in Korea, and they are also reopening this case.
So I’m glad that a movie can have such an effect

      • 29.3.2 JoAnne

I think it’s also on Ionair, which just continues to thrill me with its awesomeness.

        • 29.3.2.1 SweetiePie54

I’m digging iOnAirTV used that for the first time last week so I could watch Wild Romance live. It’s awesome. Of course getting up at 445AM is not fun but Lee Dong Wook makes up for it. :)

        • 29.3.2.2 Hillary

Love my iOnAir.TV. It is truly the best thing I ever came across (besides SOLIVE which allows me to stream TvN).

I was mad with them last week because they pulled the English close captioning feature for Ojjakyo Brothers at the last moment (after having it on the close captioning schedule for the whole week). I saw OB is once again on close captioning schedule for this weekend, so we will see.

Praise the Lord the Cadence blog does an almost-live recap of the show and those who understand the language post tidbits while we stream. Then Softy provides recaps within 30 minutes, Semi-Fly provides torrent streams within 30 minutes and Fanderay adds pictures and commentary by end of the day.

          • 29.3.2.2.1 JoAnne

I um…don’t think I’m quite at the level of addiction you are, Hillary. :)

          • 29.3.2.2.2 zgznoona

You’ll have to give me directions for SOLIVE, Please :)

      • 29.4.1 shiku

I know right! It is so awesome.

    • 29.5 Raine

I just downloaded Cruicible. That issue is addressed in Ahjussi, but that was more of an entertainment oriented movie rather than message related. Well, it had a huge message, but it isn’t the same.

I’m going to watch it when it’s not my birthday cause I wnt to smile!

  30. 30 whimsyful

    Happy Friday everyone!

I still haven’t watched the last two eps of What’s Up yet (*don’t spoil me!*)–partly because it’s midterm season in university, partly because I don’t want to say goodbye to it. Definitely my favourite ‘musical’ drama.

Started watching Soulmate a little while ago and am loving it. It’s like a mix of Sex and the City and an indie film. *GASP* Characters casually have and discuss sex on screen! It’s light and witty and somehow both cynical and romantic at the same time, and the soundtrack is love.

    • 30.1 kaleido

Soulmate has awesome soundtrack.. and how i wishing for an OST for What’s UP!

    • 30.2 zgznoona

Soul Mates…*sigh* how much I wanted it to have a second season :(

  31. 31 Plume

Here’s one thing that annoys me today:

    http://www.soompi.com/news/jyjs-jaejoong-upset-with-his-puffed-up-face

i mean, wtf?!?! i saw yesterday the first ep of Protect the Boss and JJ is a fine looking lad, but it takes more than a pretty face to make a drama really good. this princess/diva behavior just puts me off.

    • 31.1 ricky the royal highness

If that’s puffed up, then I must be Doraemon.

      • 31.1.1 cherkell

::snort:: Ricky oppa, you owe me a new monitor. Mine is now permanently ruined by me spitting my Jamba Juice lunch all over it!! :)

        • 31.1.1.1 ricky the royal highness

*digs around in Doreamon’s magic pocket*

          Here!

    • 31.2 Cruelsummer

That article made me pause as well. I saw nothing puffy about his face and that poor guys is so deathly skinny the last thing he needs to be complaing about is a puffy face. Some kid out there is going to get a complex.

      • 31.2.1 Cynthia

Maybe he’s just trying to deflect some of the heat away from his BFF Yoochun’s blackmail scandal? Kinda like ‘Look at my puffy cheeks and don’t look at Chunie’s package’ thing?
        :)

        • 31.2.1.1 JoAnne

          blackmail? Chunie’s package? Do tell.

          • 31.2.1.1.1 Cynthia

The Korean news reported that a male idol (26) was being blackmailed by an ex-gf using nudie pics she had taken of him. She tried blackmailing both the idol and his management company for 10 million (USA $). The news program described the idol as anonymous, but then showed a pic of Yoochun in the background. Smart, huh?
The police arrested the girl. Now the management company is denying that it’s Yoochun – too little, too late.
But, at least this gf didn’t pee on a laptop for revenge!
            :)

          • 31.2.1.1.2 Plume

Good point, JoAnne! ;) I’m so sick with this line: “I didn’t have a girlfriend in the past 3 years. I’m still waiting for the one”. Give me a break, men are all the same! :P

          • 31.2.1.1.3 Hillary

Whoa! It is Yoo Chun? Oh no. I really like him for some reason.

          • 31.2.1.1.4 Hillary

I hope it doesn’t cause him to withdraw from Rooftop Prince as I am looking forward to that drama.

        • 31.2.1.2 Cruelsummer

Haha…I didn’t even think about that. Or maybe that was his way of saying “Hey it wasn’t me. I’m too concerned about my puffy cheeks” LOL.

Poor Chunie, but yay me…I was having too much fun reading about his alleged misfortune yesterday and all the commentary that came along with it. Too funny!

          • 31.2.1.2.1 JoAnne

            so they DO have sex.

          • 31.2.1.2.2 Cruelsummer

…and with a dash of kink, might I add. Whipping out the camera and all.

I’m just a lowly secretary with a Facebook and Twitter and even I’m well informed enough to know that you never leave evidence of your freaky times. Misguided youth, lol.

          • 31.2.1.2.3 Cynthia

Hah! How funny is it that that was my first thought, too?!
Actually, I was kinda happy for the boy (not the blackmail part, just the ‘getting laid’ part)!
            :)

    • 31.3 qhmieee

I may have got here a bit too late but i just wanna say… Sometimes the boy makes me wonder about his weight and image issues too but this tweet is really nothing to hate on.

If you know anything about JJ’s 4D character he was most likely trying to show off his earmuffs with a random caption. The news articles’ word phrasing probably put you off

      • 31.3.1 Plume

Yes, it may be so, the media always come with the most idiot titles to attract interest… But anyway it’s not the first time a k-star complains about imaginary flaws. I is a bit immature to say stuff like when one knows that 99% of population would do anything to have such an attractive face… not only makes it people feel bad about their own less-than-perfect faces and complexions, but it also perpetuates unrealistic beauty ideals.

I am a small face myself (with a V-line or whatever they call it) myself but I had no idea that such concept existed until I started watching k-dramas. Here in Europe you can have round face, heart-shaped face, whatever-shaped face, square jaws and different sizes of mouths and noses and you can still be considered beautiful or at least interesting/attractive. Nobody tries to sell you drinks that claim to “change” the face structure.

I still wonder what the heck they mean by a “bloated face” – is it a fat face or what? It’s not like anyone pumped gas in their mouth or something…

        • 31.3.1.1 Mystisith

One thing always leave me puzzled in k dramas : The ” My face is bloated because i ate ramyeon “. The stomach, i can understand, but the face ?? Sounds like an urban legend to me or a cheap excuse for excessive drinking… And i don’t understand either that cult of the perfect face. Seriously, i never measure the face or body proportions of people : I’m interested in the whole individual, and i utterly dislike rationalizing attraction. Imagine drawing your ruler at a date : What a perfect way to kill the mood…

          • 31.3.1.1.1 Plume

All this “need for perfection” is actually a cheap scheme that brings profit. When I was a teenager I was also concerned about my “cellulite” (i was underweight!) and about being too pale because of the countless infomercial and ads displaying tanned women wearing swimwear. I bought a few products then only to realize a few years later that everything has been sheer nonsense. People don’t have to be the same colour and they don’t have to fit in the same stupid body “ideal”.

          • 31.3.1.1.2 Jules

The ramen-face bloat is no myth (sadly) – any foodstuff with sodium levels as high as those in ramen is likely to cause bloating and puffiness.

          • 31.3.1.1.3 Mystisith

Jules, thank for the explanation ! I didn’t think about the sodium stuff : I eat ramyeon only at home but i never use the seasoning in the little bags ( artificial flavors are beurk… ). I use my personal recipe : The Thousand Spices :
A random blend of curry + tandori + curcuma + red pepper + black pepper + ginger + everything i can find in my kitchen ( the more, the better ). I also add some herbs ( chive or Provencal herbs ), and just a drop of soy sauce. Delicious and non bloating recipe guaranteed.

  32. 32 Do-ra-ma

First time appearing in an Open Thread in a while.

Lee Seunggi’s goodbye message to 1N2D really hit it home that the season is ending and he and Eun Jiwon won’t be returning. I do take solace in the fact that Sugeun, Taewoong, and Jongmin will still be there reportedly, so I remain optimistic. I’ve followed the show since 2009 (when I first visited S. Korea), and I intend to keep watching.

On the drama front, I’m still keeping up with Wild Romance and High Kick 3, but am planning to watch a couple others. Shut Up! Flower Boy Band is definitely on the list, as are some upcoming March shows.

Also, as I’m a bit of a comic geek, I’ve got excite for the three big superhero movies this year: The Avengers, The Amazing Spider-Man, and The Dark Knight Rises. The recently released trailers for the former two did a good job up amping me up and I anticipate both films measurably now.

    • 32.1 shiku

Me too am excited for all three superheroe movies in addition to the Hunger Games and Ruruoni Kenshin/Samurai X movies

      • 32.1.1 Shukmeister

Oooh I hadn’t heard about Ruroni Kenshin. They’re doing a live-action? I watched all the anime arcs of the franchise!

        • 32.1.1.1 shiku

Yes they are and they better not mess up or I (in addition to millions of kenshin’s fangirls) will personally fly to Japan and kick them where the sun don’t shine.

          Here is a teaser
          http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MmjHpiwVZuY&feature=related

I watched all the animes and the movies they did. However, I haven’t watched the subbed japanese version as I can’t get over the fact they had a woman do his voice. I prefer the more manly English voices.

        • 32.1.1.2 Do-ra-ma

Yes! The Rurouni Kenshin movie is one I’m also keeping an eye on. A very short teaser trailer was released a month or so ago and it looks surprisingly good!

          Link: http://youtu.be/ObdlLp7gkYA

In other anime related news, I’m also very excited for Shinichiro Watanabe’s directorial return to TV (he’s the director of Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo) with Sakamichi no Apollon in April. And Yoko Kanno’s providing the music!

  33. 33 Cruelsummer

*Puts on reading glasses and prepares to sit for a spell*

    Hi All.

I’m kind of proud of myself because I’m down to two dramas (we won’t even mention re-watches. They don’t count :) ) I told myself I was going to stick with DH2, but I can’t really bring myself to watch 3 and 4, so I guess it’s done for.

Good or Bad, I’m enjoying Wild Romance very much. It’s fun to speculate and get frustrated with the characters. Isn’t that the fun part of dramas? Perhaps people are frustrated with the OTP because it kind of works like that in real life. Sometimes love depends on timing. More times than not love can be one-sided. It sucks to see Ej in that situation, because I’m sure we’ve all been there at some point. It’s like reliving those feelings of rejection.

I wish I could give some World class insight on SUFBB, but every time I think of it all I can do is perform a mental happy dance. Nothing but love for this drama. I’ve read some people complaining about the lead actress, but I think she’s doing a wonderful job and she’s super cute. Can’t wait until next week.

Why on Earth do I look at the tags for Wild Romance, DH2 and SUFBB on tumblr? WR=Pages upon pages Jessica’s creepy Puppet Master face. DH2= Pages upon pages of JB’s dead fish glare. SUFBB= OMG…why did he DIE?! I’m not watching this show anymore (even though I only started watching it for L).

    • 33.1 gzenitram

the only tag of those that I officially follow is the WR and I have to agree- seeing 30+ photos of Sica [in a wedding dress/with shoes on/smiling/crying (one after another!!)] is driving me batty. Not gonna lie, I’m sticking it out hoping to get more dong ah/robot gifs.. :)

      • 33.1.1 Cruelsummer

I need someone to make a gif of Robot smacking the bar boy with a napkin, lol.

        • 33.1.1.1 Cynthia

Lol – and it really whipped his head to the side, didn’t it?!
          :)

          • 33.1.1.1.1 Cruelsummer

            So deliciously dramatic.

        • 33.1.1.2 momosa

Violently hot..didn’t know it can be sexy this way! I have watch it again, he stole the whole show with that smack..how is it possible? I don’t know..he is just so awesome!

    • 33.2 IzOcha

ha! Tumblr is like that…esp for trendy things…

But the robot boy smacking bar boy with pink gloves would be excellent. It’s the absurd moments like that which really make the physical comedy in WR so fun…because otherwise strangely dark and then also understated…WR is such an enjoyable enigma.

      • 33.2.1 trotwood

I just finished watching episode 12 on Dramafever. I do not get any of the channels where I live. And I cheered out loud for when robot boy smacked bar boy with the gloves. It was an odd combination of the absurd–pink rubber cleaning gloves warn by pretty boy in a bar (somehow that sounds kinky even though I did not mean it that way AT ALL)–with pure anger and vengeance. I am wondering if robot boy is like a robot onlybecause he is afraid of how out of control he could possibly get. Or perhaps that is why he is pushing Dong Ah away because she provokes him to get out of control, and that is what he is known for. He is my favorite character.

I keep track of episodes of shows that I really love and could rewatch out of order. I do not have time always to invest in a new drama or to completely rewatch an old one, so i look to the list when I need an hour of comfort. Episode 12 is now on my list. the close moments between Mu-Yeol and Eun Jae were like butter on a hot biscuit.

    • 33.3 whatis

yea, I’ve been watching wild romance… well.. skip watching. I only watch for Dong Ah and Manager Kim’s scenes. Gotta say… Manager Kim better GROVEL at Dong Ah’s feet to beg her to come back.

NO girl should ever be assaulted and then have her boyfriend kick her out of the car (doesn’t matter if he opened the door or not) and not contact her. No… THAT is a total dealbreaker!!!

      • 33.3.1 IzOcha

whatis, I agree with you, the groveling etc…but I would like to point out, he did call…just failed to call ceaselessly, and bring her soup and a hot pad. Yet, I feel they were not to that stage yet…since they had only really formalized a list. He isn’t actually human too, so I give a bit more room for not understanding emotion.

  34. 34 niKai

i should have waited for Moon-Sun to finish airing before started watching. NowI have to wait EVERY week for the double doses. Sigh!

  35. 35 Tomi

:( Why isn’t it Saturday evening already? Can’t wait for Ojakkyo Brothers!!!!

    - Ojakgyo ep 47 also. Still root for the noona / kid couple : The scene at the restaurant with the Dragon Lady and the grilling session was just so fun. I know it’s cheesy, but i just adore those kind of scenes.
    - Office girls : Waiting for last ( at last ) ep.
    - Ten : Will see ep 7 tomorrow.
    - Salaryman : Must see 11 and 12. Hey, i’m starting t be left behind…
    - FF : Seen ep 18 : It starts being draggy ( 6 more to go ). Indigestion ?
    - Skip Beat : ep 7. Siwon flipping a bird to the main female character in her crazy dream : Priceless.
    - Bachelor veggie store : ep 14. I’m sorting my veggies, meaning i FF makjang, and enjoy my happy scenes of bromance and hardworking guys.
    - Hungry ! : Ep 4. I just love how japanese pronounce french. Better than the english of some korean characters… No, i won’t give names.
    - Dream high 2 : Seen 4 eps. Dropped.
    - Shut up ! : Seen 4 eps. Canonised.
    - Wild romance : Stuck at ep 10. Anyway, i root for Robot boy and his romance novel girlfriend. Oh Man Seok is definitely my new crush.
    - Glowing she : Waiting for ep 3. Surprisingly entertaining. That Kim Hyun Jun guy is a good actor for a singer, and the dance teacher of hated Heartstrings has comedic skills.
    - Started TW I love you so much, just for Blue Lan and his guyliner, so i know i can’t be disappointed. Unless he gets hit by a truck and ends bandaged from head to toes.
    - Started TW Magicians of love with Ming Dao : It’s like a mix of Skip Beat and Flower Boys concept in the coiffure world. I never knew Ming Dao could act so exaggerated and be so hilarious. I don’t know if it’s a manga adaptation but it feels like it. Also, I’m always there for stupid bets, crossdressing and pranks. And handsome guys.
    - Shukmeister : The Prince and his harem. Chapter 13 before going to bed tonight. Thumbs up for the author.
Ouf ! I thought i would never end. Now please NetMonster, don’t eat my comment. :)

      Ming Dao /perks up

I’ve just finished re-running The Prince Who Turned Into A Frog. Magicians of Love sounds like fun, thanks for the heads up!

    • 36.2 Cynthia

      You are one busy girl!

ATK: It’s over. Thank God. And yes, I will be watching the subbed eps right along with you, hating every moment but too weak to pull away. Scientists think all Black Holes exist in space – nope. This drama disproves that theory. Remember that ending scene in ‘Poltergist’ where the whole house gets sucked into the hole? Yeah. I shall go no further.

Glowing She: I’m really liking this one. It’s fresh and funny. Unfortunately, the subbing seems to have stopped at ep 2. I know that GS is already up to ep 6, and this is only 12 eps long.
      :)

      • 36.2.1 Mystisith

Cynthia, the best comrades are those from battlefields. If someone watched ATK till the end because She/He actually LIKED it, i would suspect serious psychopathy ( if fans of ATK are here i’m sorry to be so harsh : To compensate i allow you to explain me why you like it ).

        • 36.2.1.1 Cynthia

Lol – and sometimes when I have this kind of reaction to a drama, I tend to second-guess myself at the beginning (or when things seriously go off-track in the storytelling), so I generally will check into the Soompi drama/fan threads to see what the overall take is. Seriously, I got more laughs from the ATK postings – they had total outrage for the writer. LOTS of all caps posts – and you know that using all caps in fangirldom means they’re SERIOUS. Like reals.

I loved the finale, because it was just. so. awful.
It’s not many dramas where one of the main characters die, and you’re happy to see her go because her whole life sucked donkey balls and she deserved a rest. It’s just too bad that the OldToad didn’t have a heart attack and croak along with her. Just because he developed a soul at the eleventh hour doesn’t excuse his total douchiness. As for the OTP’s ending – a glance at each other is what they get?
Hope that the writer found a cave to hide in after this mess – and it would be nice if she stumbled her way into the ATK FanGirl cave….. they eat their enemies.
          :)

          • 36.2.1.1.1 alua

ATK… thinking about that drama gets me so worked up.

I have only watched snippets of the last… I don’t know, 5 episodes? Saw the final ten minutes raw (and won’t watch them once they are subbed… I mean, what’s the point? They just stare at each other).

Never liked the OldToad (nice moniker btw).
The evil ex: why did she get away with everything? Yes, she doesn’t get WB, but the overall message the drama sends about her is still wrong, wrong, wrong, WRONG. She was evil, obsessive, creepy, a total psycho and unprofessional in every way! And she neither got fired, nor dumped.

            Okay, I’ll stop or I’ll never stop…

          • 36.2.1.1.2 Shukmeister

            STUPIDifying, isn’t it. lol

          • 36.2.1.1.3 Jules

Oh, ATK. By the time we got to the finale, I had checked out, so the fact bitchy Hye-bin got her happy ending while Joo-young and Woo-bin were separated and that – after being married for God-knows-how-long – Joo-mi and Woo-jin still seemed embarrassed to touch one another (and how she managed to get pregnant again with that being the case is anyone’s guess – though I was glad for that small bit of good news)… eh, I couldn’t really muster up much anger.

(previously, my thought was: rocks fall, everyone dies, the end.)

      • 36.2.2 trixicopper

What is it with that horrible thing of a drama?! I have hated it for probably the last 20 episodes and I still found myself watching. And the really stupid thing is I know better! The days when I would watch anything to the bitter end are long gone.

Thank God that vile trainwreck is finally out of its and my misery! :)

    • 36.3 Shukmeister

      @ Mystisith ~
      Thanks for the read!
Haven’t seen either TW you mentioned, so let me know how it goes while I’m finishing up the Thai lakorn I’m watching.

      • 36.3.1 MJP

        Shukkie! *HUGS*

Which Thai lakorn are you watching?

        • 36.3.1.1 Shukmeister

“Love Never Dies” – and at this point, it’s my favorite Thai series so far.

400-yo hot, spikey-haired vamp trying to break the curse meets cheeky and beautiful antiquity expert, while evil but dumb vampire makes snarly faces and his evil but dumb and gorgeous son walks around contemplating evil deeds while looking in his wine glass filled with a mysterious red fluid.

Add in the usual nosy, pushy family; a buddhist temple; one cute / one incompetant homicide detective duo; and, a couple of jealous female types nobody cares about.

Add one fuzzy, yippy type small dog, and a quest for a mysterious object that can kill vampires.

Did I mention hot guys in black? Of course, they might need to go the dentist, or use that Sensodyne toothpaste…

          • 36.3.1.1.1 JoAnne

            *makes a note for later*

          • 36.3.1.1.2 Shukmeister

Okay, just finished the last epi in preparation for the movie tonight. Typical Thai production with a semi-ambiguous ending, and no tongue – lol.

Still, it’s a nice switch from the almost too-slick KDramas, and definitely one to watch when you just want to zone out.

Now, time for a quick trip to the ABC store, and final preps for tonight’s presentation.

    • 36.4 Hillary

I thought I was busy but your schedule is fuller than mine.

  37. 37 Leaf

So… due to Cruelsummer’s (awesome name by the way :D ) suggestion we are gonna do a list here of who belongs to who…

So step up and claim your soulmates everyone because someone else will otherwise ;)

So, firstly, just to make it clear, my boyfriend is Kim Bum. That’s not a claim, that’s a fact :D And I am gonna force him to eat a proper meal until he’s better again!

    • 37.1 ricky the royal highness

Yoo In Na (and Sofia Vergara)
I don’t think anyone will fight with me, but still…

      • 37.1.1 Minnetter (aka: Min)

I did notice you mentioned the Vergara in your tweets… what made you fall for her?

        • 37.1.1.1 ricky the royal highness

It’s the accent and sense of humour. So sexy!

    • 37.2 shirin-noona

I claim Gong Yoo!He’s been my crush ever since I saw coffee prince. He is Mr Perfect!

    • 37.3 JoAnne

Rain. Rain is mine. Back away people. Look but do not touch.

I flirt with others. (Ji Sung. Pillar…more, but I won’t list them all.) But my heart belongs to Rain.

      • 37.3.1 Cruelsummer

OMG…why do we have the same taste in men?! Well…I’ll just jump in and put dibs on Uhm Tae Woong. I’m pretty sure he’s already taken, so I’m going to pull a Byung Hee and give him a virtual wrist bite. I licked him, he’s mine ;)

        • 37.3.1.1 JoAnne

Tae Woong-i is one of my flirtations, LOL…

but isn’t KJH you? I thought it was you I had the whole handcuffs discussion with…

        • 37.3.1.2 Cynthia

And everyone here KNOWS my alternate universe husband is Kim Hyun Joong, right? RIGHT?!?!
          :)

          • 37.3.1.2.1 JoAnne

oh wait…I seriously saw CruelSummer and read Cynthia. Cynthia is KJH. Handcuffs and all.

      • 37.3.2 JoAnne

Well if we can have more than ONE on our list of claims…

Sung Joon is mine! T.O.P too! (Evil laugh)

        • 37.3.2.1 Cruelsummer

You are killing me right now. I love Sung Joon!! But I was trying to be fair and stay in my age bracket, LOL :)

          • 37.3.2.1.1 JoAnne

Well geez, the only ones in my age bracket would be…I dunno, maybe Lee Min Ho’s Evil Dad in City Hunter? Or the President? Actually…I wouldn’t kick either one out of bed for eathing crackers…

          • 37.3.2.1.2 Cruelsummer

Well I guess all bets are off…I shall add Chung Jung-Myung to my ever growing list even though I had to re-watch ‘What’s Up Fox?’ to erase the drek that was ‘Man of Honor’. I still love you, PIE.

        • 37.3.2.2 Plume

Sung Joon from White Christmas?? Watch you back lady! ;)

Btw, I don’t like his hair in WUFBand…am I the only one?

          • 37.3.2.2.1 Cruelsummer

His hair sucks so bad. You’re not the only one. I still would though…totally.

          • 37.3.2.2.2 JoAnne

His hair is terrible in a cool way, though.

            And I SO WOULD.

          • 37.3.2.2.3 whimsyful

His hair is terrible in FBB. I kept on wondering how someone so supposedly poor could afford a perm like that. Then again, Su Ah has amazingly lustrous locks too…

          • 37.3.2.2.4 JoAnne

That girl who likes him is a hair dresser, that’s how he affords the perm.

I seriously…that is the first time that bad hair never stopped me. It kept me from like Gu Jun Pyo, ever. It made it take longer for me to fall for Ji Sung in PTB. But Sung Joon? I saw his hair in the stills DB posted and said WTF? and then immediately said Yeah..I don’t care. Come to MAMA, baby.

          • 37.3.2.2.5 whimsyful

Lee Min Ho’s terrible hair (and the general terrible fashion) in BOF is one of the major reasons I have avoided watching that drama.

Yeah, I think Sung Joon’s hair doesn’t bug me as much because it sorta suits his character? And the rest of his wardrobe is pretty normal (those school uniforms yum).

    • 37.4 Cruelsummer

Since I’m late to the Kdrama World I have a feeling I’m going to be playing 2nd lead to everyone’s choices. I might as well just cut my hair into a bob and get my bitch on :)

Leaf-Thanks! That’s been my username since I discovered the internet, so it’s probably older than you. So I guess I’m one of the Halmoni’s of the thread :(

      • 37.4.1 Leaf

Meh… age is irrelevant on the internet ;)

    • 37.5 laya

      Kim Nam Gil forever. ;)

      • 37.5.1 shiku

No! Hands off or we will fight even if I shudn’t as you come from Manny’s hometown!

        • 37.5.1.1 laya

          :D :D Hometown of boxing champions /nodnod.

I called it first! Bidam forever. :D

          • 37.5.1.1.1 shiku

Since we are dealing with asian culture shudn’t you respect your sunbae (meaning me) and give her first choice because of the whole respect thingy.

          • 37.5.1.1.2 laya

:D :D But but but. You have other guys. I only want Bidam. /lip trembles.

          • 37.5.1.1.3 JoAnne

That’s how I got Rain, because Raine gave him up to me. But really she’s all about Park Shi Hoo anyway so I think the sunbae bit was just her blowing smoke up my a**.

          • 37.5.1.1.4 laya

I notice no one’s claiming His Royal Hotness. :D

          • 37.5.1.1.5 JoAnne

…someone’s making a play for RICKY?

Ricky cannot be owned, girlfriend. The OT will take you DOWN.

          • 37.5.1.1.6 shiku

But Bidam was the one who got me into k-dramas???

Oh well I will lend (not give) him to you for now. No funny business!

          • 37.5.1.1.7 Shukmeister

            @ Laya -

That’s why my fan-fic of Ricky’s love life has a strictly imagination female lead. His harem would tear me to shreds (or each other) if I picked someone to be his significant other.

So he gets the perfect shy/sweet/sexy girlfriend, and we all get to watch and root for him, shiny ahjumma pants and all.

Or meet him at Bourbon’s bar at the waterfront for a quick pick-me-up.

          • 37.5.1.1.8 ricky the royal highness

            HAHAHAHAHAHA :D

The idea of having a harem is oddly scary to me.

            LOL JoAnne
Sharing is caring. But no touching because staring is also caring.

*sings I’m sexy and I know it*

        • 37.5.1.2 JoAnne

@Ricky – when it comes to JiHoon oppa, I guess I don’t care that much about all y’all. ;)

        • 37.5.1.3 laya

I admit it was Lee Seung Gi who really got me hooked on K-dramas. But you know what happens if I claim that one. /puts on armor in readiness for girlfriday’s arrival.

    • 37.6 Mystisith

First love : Hyun Bin. Would like to switch bodies, but only after military service ( thank you very much ).
Husband and soulmate : Yun Jung Hoon alias sexy guylinered Vampire Prosecutor. I usually save my blood, but for him i’m ready to be a fountain of life.
Jeju love affair : Lee Jun Ki. The welcome back fan meeting has been cancelled btw. We are going to a nice secret pasta restaurant unknown of the reporters.
Best Friend Forever : Yoon Shi Yoon. Can knock at my door at 2 am to hide from the cops.

      • 37.6.1 shirin-noona

Awww,I love Yoon Shi Yoon,is it weird that I think of him as a son?I mean he’s such a cutie pie,I can’t believe he’s only 4 years younger than me…I envy his mother!

        • 37.6.1.1 JoAnne

He is PRECIOUS. Seriously adorable face. And he handled ‘manly’ quite a bit more than adequately in Me Too, Flower. But even with that…I just want to hug him. The only way he can make my ovaries explode is by the thought of how cute he must have been as a baby.

          • 37.6.1.1.1 shirin-noona

I know,He’s just so huggable! That’s why I have those motherly feelings for him!I just wanna hug him and somehow protect him!:D

          • 37.6.1.1.2 Cynthia

Hah! Aren’t these the same excuses perverts make in front of the judge, trying to defend their jailbait proclivities?
            :)

          • 37.6.1.1.3 shirin-noona

Cynthia how can you compare our PURE innocent feelings with that?;)))

          • 37.6.1.1.4 Cynthia

That’s a good story – make sure you stick to it!
See how much more comfortable you are on our bus?!
It’s like one big giggly sleepover with some occasional drama thrown in to keep everyone awake…
            :)

    • 37.7 zgznoona

I don’t mind to share, since my grandpa used to say “Más vale un bombon compartido que una mierda para uno solo”

Then, the list of my “lovers” starts:
Uhm Tae Woong (just too cute to ignore)
Jin Sung (we were born the exact same day, so this is fate)
Sung Si-kyung (Even with what I said before about him, I still consider him perfect husband material)
Kang Ji-hwan (I’ll share it with GF if need it)
Óhay, I could claim more, but I don’t want to be greedy

      • 37.7.1 JoAnne

Laughing my ASS off at your grandpa’s saying.

Better shared candy than shit for one?

        hahahahahahaha oh, I love.

        • 37.7.1.1 zgznoona

My grandpa was a very special man.
During his funeral, we were all laughing remembering the things he did and said, rather than crying

          • 37.7.1.1.1 JoAnne

            STILL LAUGHING

    • 37.8 shiku

I have three unshareable ones so everyone back off!

      1. Lee Seo Jin
      2. Kim Nam Gil
      3. Yoon Kye Sang

      Shareable ones
      1. Choi Min Soo
      2. Kim Soo Hyun

      • 37.8.1 mellowyel

How shareable is Kim Soo-Hyun? Can we make a deal where I get him 8 months out of the year, and you get the other 4? lol

        • 37.8.1.1 shiku

No can do. When I said share, I meant you 1 month, me 11 months. he he heh.

But I will be generous 50:50?

          • 37.8.1.1.1 mellowyel

50-50 works for me – I already have a deal with a friend to have Ryu Soo-young the other half of the year :D Minnetter might have to wait till next year…

    • 37.9 Jennifer

Why hasn’t anyone mentioned Taecyeon? Is it because he’s too childish for anyone’s tastes or has appeared in only one drama?

Well I claim him! hehe I don’t care how many fangirls he has, but he’s mine! ….at least on OT.

He’s cute and sexy! and dorky lol The perfect man!

      • 37.9.1 ahjummabunny

taecyon was in 2 dramas no? I didn’t see dream high but I liked him in cindy sister.

      • 37.9.2 bsmm

taecyeon is smoking hot! but yeah, he may appear kinda childish (as i’ve seen on WGM). it doesn’t matter though. he’s still as hot as hell!

      • 37.9.3 Cabbage

You should watch “99 days with my star” – skip through anything that doesn’t have Taecyeon in it, and go straight to the scenes where he’s wearing a white tank and a construction hat.

      • 37.9.4 Jennifer

haha ok I admit it, I’m not the typical diehard fan who knows everything about my fav entertainers and such or sometimes even the basic things….

        yea yea I’m a failure :(

        So he’s been in 3 dramas!… that I know of…

      • 37.9.5 JoAnne

He’s one of those that usually looks very cute in a boyish and charming way, and then all of a sudden rocks the sexy he-man bad boy look and catches you by surprise.

But am I the only one who also thinks that occasionally he looks not only cross-eyed, but a bit buck-toothed?

So he goes from dorky nerd look to cute boy look to hot dangerous look.

    • 37.10 howforwardsale

Jung Gyu Woon is mine!! Not only do we have the exact same birthdate but I have vowed to invent a balm for his lips so that he doesn’t have to act with severely wind burned lips anymore. My love for him isn’t selfish see? I geniunely care for his career and well being. Plus since no one can cry and drive at the same time like him (witness the magicalness that is Baek Kang Ho in Loving You a Thousand Times) I’m invested as a life long fan.

      • 37.10.1 ahjummabunny

baek kang ho is my first kdrama love! you can’t have jung gyu woon- we may share him.

    • 37.11 ahjummabunny

Cha Seung Won, Jung Gyu Woon and Ryu Seung Ryong. I’m open to sharing.

    • 37.12 Thunderlyn

Awesome. I get Jo Hyun Jae. Ya’ll moved on, but I’ll cry Kang-AHHH forever.

      • 37.12.1 JoAnne

        Sigh. I remember that shower…

        • 37.12.1.1 shiku

Speaking of showers who watched Shemar Moore’s shower scene in this weeks Criminal Minds?

          It was so great

          • 37.12.1.1.1 JoAnne

Criminal Minds is awesome! Shemar Moore in the shower? Oh yeah, baby.

Speaking of…I knew my daughter was growing up (and doing it right) a few years ago when we were watching CSI together and there was a scene where Gary Dourdan takes his shirt off in the locker room. My daughter (maybe 12 or 13 at the time?) just quietly said ‘oh!’ and I laughed so HARD. Warrick was beau-ti-ful. Have admired (visually, anyway – his personal life is a hot mess) that actor since he got his start in that Janet Jackson video in the early 90s.

          • 37.12.1.1.2 Cruelsummer

Oh Lord…why’d you have to bring up that video? *shuffles off to Youtube*

          • 37.12.1.1.3 Shiku

Warrick used to look so good and I believe he wud still be on the show if itbwasn’t for his drug issues. *sigh* What could have been?

@Cruelsummer When I first saw it I had to pause sit-up then rewind it a few times. He is so sexy!

      • 37.12.2 zgznoona

why did I forget him? Whyyyyyy?

    • 37.13 cherkell

Proudly waiving the Ji Chang Wook flag since 2007… or as someone here (forgot who) summed it up perfectly a few OTs ago: “OH. EM. JI CHANG WOOK!!!”

Remember, I have a sword and I’m not afraid to use it!! :)

    • 37.14 Minnetter (aka: Min)

So glad I came to this OT, despite coming late… My #1 husband in my harem… has always been Kim Hee Chul… I got protection from psychic pigeons a year ago… got it?

      • 37.14.1 Minnetter (aka: Min)

        after him… Kang Dong Wan… hmmm… Ryo Soo Young…

        • 37.14.1.1 JoAnne

I’m new to Kang Dong Won but oh lord, that’s an unearthly beautiful man. I wouldn’t even want to do anything with him. Just sit there and let me look at your face, forever.

Except…his baby chiclet teeth are a little freaky.

          • 37.14.1.1.1 Minnetter (aka: Min)

It’s funny you should mention his teeth… if you search for him hardly any of his pics have him showing teeth.

          • 37.14.1.1.2 JoAnne

Because they’re WIERD. It’s like…lots of tiny baby teeth.

    • 37.15 Hillary

Now hopefully as my name is also Joanne, JoAnne will share Rain. But my other crushes are Kim Rae Won (love his smile) and Lee Min Ho (he is so “dorkily” cute… is that a word?). Have watched all of their dramas and movies (some of which I really had to hunt down in the case of Kim Rae Won).

    • 37.16 Deeno

I have no Korean actor claims, but Vanness Wu is all mine in the Taiwanese entertainment business.

I sometimes house PSH in my asylum. He’s probably my favorite Korean actor.

      • 37.16.1 JoAnne

        Can we go by country?

For Taiwan, I stake my claim to Peter Ho.

Japan..Kame with some meat on his bones. Ok, so basically, that’s Akanishi Jin.

I don’t have anyone for China yet.

        • 37.16.1.1 Leaf

Then I recommend Yuan Hong for China :D

          Seriously… love him <3 13th Prince forever!!!

      • 37.16.2 Minnetter (aka: Min)

hehehe… I’ve already claimed some of my Korean loves… though I’m missing a few, but if I were to make a complete list, I’d be giving away the members of my harem, and their lovers may take offense, kekeke

I have very few (only 2) Taiwanese members in my harem but they’re there: reigning king for 5 years Joe Cheng… and the one who de-throned him this past winter Chen Bo Lin.

In Japan I have a few more but I’ll only lay official claim on: Macchan (Matsumoto Jun)

        • 37.16.2.1 Cabbage

AH!!! No, are we claiming Japanese idols now!?

KimuTaku is mine! My husband even said that if I ended up on Smapxsmap someday, I was allowed to kiss him. The only item in my bucket list is getting on SmapxSmap now.

          • 37.16.2.1.1 cherkell

Hands down, Asano Tadanobu and Fukuyama Masaharu (MASHA!!!!) for me. Kare wa utsukushii desu!!!

Cabbage, you’re channeling my bucket list too!! Except I want to go over to Kusanagi Tsuyoshi and push a cheeseburger into his face — he was always on the losing battle side on the Dotch Cooking Show, and always looked sooooo hungry. Just as long as he stays sober and keeps his clothes on when we visit the set… ;)

          • 37.16.2.1.2 Cabbage

Shoot – forgot about Masa the hunk.

Cherkell, I promise you if you promise me – when one of us gets on SmapSmap, we’ll bring the other and mob the stars.

        • 37.16.2.2 Shukmeister

I think I’d pick Wilson Chen over Joseph Cheng, by the tiny margin of his very fine hair.

          • 37.16.2.2.1 howforwardsale

Okay if we are considering other countries then

Japan: Daito Shunsuke (he told me I’m the only one for him)

            Taiwan: Jiro Wang

Korea: Jung Gyu Woon (apparently I’m sharing him *sigh*)

Oh! and can I count George Hu for the U.S.?

    • 37.17 iZzie :)

      Lee Dong Wook. ;)

    /waves sheepishly at everyone

Happy weekend, DBers! I was away for a month or so, mostly because I couldn’t get online at the usual time. Stupid broadband internet /kicks. I’m back at my childhood home, better known as the hometown of boxer Manny Pacquiao. :D Anyway, I hope to get a DSL connection installed next week, so I can be back online as often as I want. /crosses fingers. I’ve also just about finished backreading the month’s worth of posts I’ve missed.

On the K-drama side, City Hunter has started airing locally, and we’ve been staying up late to watch it. Yes, mom is also kind of a Lee Min-ho fan. :D Sister has also finished marathoning Dong Yi. I’m trying to get her interested in Sungkyunkwan Scandal [which will also air locally this month, thank you ABS-CBN] but she only wants sageuks with kings and queens and stuff. Then she went and rewatched Brilliant Legacy instead because of Han Hyo-joo :D

    How’s everybody?

    • 38.1 MJP

      Hi Laya! *HUGS*

I’m doing well. I decided to skip down to the bottom and read upwards instead of down. It makes life interesting reading comments backwards. :-)

      • 38.1.1 laya

        :D So it must!

I only do this stuff during exams though. I often start at the last question and work back to the first one. Makes the whole thing seem easier.

    • 38.2 Ariel

Hi, good to know that your from my part of the woods but separated by a couple of mountains and an ocean. I would like to join movie watching and OT discussion but I get easily distracted. I have other blogs that I’m currently reading and I’m dying to watch Ojakgyo Brothers but the subtitles for ep 49 onwards have not dropped yet. Been watching Shut Up: FBB you should check it out its really really good. Have a job interview on Monday bummer he he he, I was so enjoying my 2 months vacation going crazy watching movies and dramas. I just finished watching White Christmas, it bored me but I like watching the pretty and yes I could endure it all just give me some eye candy. If your going for DSL PLDT is pretty reliable and a lot faster plus I heard they’re having some promos. Have a fun time drama watching going to check out recaps for Ojakgyo at Cadence.
      Happy OT to all DBers.

I thought Special Investigative Unit was a very boring movie. or maybe because the sublect matter has been done before in various formats so brought nothing new. At least Joo Won was rocking his guyliner.

      • 41.1.1 MJP

        Shiku,

Did you see all the guyliner on Lee Min-ki in Shut Up Flower Boy Band???

        • 41.1.1.1 shiku

I did but it didn’t work for him as it made his eyes look huge making him seem a bit anorexic.

          • 41.1.1.1.1 Plume

I think he is anorexic. Just compare his current pics from magazinea with his face from Dal Ja’s spring. I’m so sad, I really like him.

          • 41.1.1.1.2 Hillary

To me he always looked anorexic … I am not a Lee Min Ki fan but I have watched 3 dramas he was in.

          • 41.1.1.1.3 JoAnne

I kept wondering why he looked so strange in this and when I looked at images on google I have to say…he’s REALLY lost a lot of weight.

      • 41.1.2 Hillary

But Joo Won did not rock that hairstyle… I was also disappointed in the movie… 5 on a 10 point scale.

    • 41.2 MJP

      Hi MJ, *HUGS*

Which one did you like the best out of the four movies you watched at http://www.dramacrazy.net?

I love Dramacrazy and Animecrazy and their staff! What a great crew! They are the BEST!!!!!

    • 41.3 JoAnne

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! I’ve been waiting for Always! Thank you!

      • 41.3.1 Thunderlyn

LOVED ALWAYS! loved, loved, loved. perfect romance movie….although I admit I get bored in fight scenes and fastforwarded the final one.

      • 41.3.2 JoAnne

        Sigh…

I finally, finally, FINALLY get the So Ji Sub effect.

Lord, have mercy. That was one sweet movie.

  42. 42 j

Just drop by to say that I’m totally in love with Kang Dong Soo ( Lee Chun Hee ) in Take care of us Captain <3

    • 42.1 MJP

I’ve heard it’s really good. But I just don’t have time for another drama.

  43. 43 shiku

    I need some advice

So am currently staying in an apartment that overlooks a pond that is home to ducks and geese. A woman staying in a nearby apartment brings trashbags full of bread to feed the ducks/geese. She has been doing this for the two weeks I have been here. Currently the ducks/geese are staked outside her apartment waiting in the snow for their food which will come out in approximately 4 hours.

I get that she believes she is doing the right thing feeding the ducks but ultimately I think she is doing them and herself, a disservice. This is because the ducks/geese will stop hunting on their own and be dependent on her. What happens if she moves away? She, on the other hand, will be spending considerable amount of money trying to feed them (unless she works in a bakery or supermarket and can get left-over/expired bread for free).

So should I ask her to stop or let her do her hearts desire (maybe it’s keeping her sane)?

    • 43.1 MJP

Is she old and living alone?

      • 43.1.1 shiku

Middle-aged I think. I saw a young girl over on the weekend, maybe her daughter or grand-daughter?

        • 43.1.1.1 MJP

I could understand if she were elderly and she was doing it. But what she is doing is pretty harmful to the animals natural feeding/breeding/migration and to the residents health. The fecal material that the waterfowl leaves behind can cause serious health issues.

I don’t know if English is your native language, but here is a very handy document that teaches on the subject and you could print it and give it to your neighbor if you feel comfortable doing so.

          http://library.fws.gov/Pubs9/caution_waterfowl.pdf

    • 43.2 Jennifer

lol are the ducks a nuisance to you? Do they quack until she comes to feed them?

      • 43.2.1 Cynthia

Heck – I’d just leave it alone, unless either the duck/geese noise is bothering you because they’re congregating waiting for their hand-out or if their droppings are becoming a sanitary issue for the property.
Otherwise, don’t worry about them becoming dependent on scraps – most of them subsist on pond weeds. Besides, how often do we find starved duck corpses just laying around, silent testament to bread hand-outs being cut off?
        :)

        • 43.2.1.1 Jennifer

agreed! plus unless they’re newborns, they should be able to revert back to their natural habits once the lady stops feeding them.

As for the pond, I probably wouldn’t swim in it…

      • 43.2.2 shiku

Sometimes they are but I tend to ignore them.

    • 43.3 ahjummabunny

      I have an idea!
Slip a note in her mail box, under her door, in the door crease with thanks and praise and then the important information and a kind suggestion. Don’t sound self righteous, heap on the praise.

    • 43.4 JoAnne

They will actually starve to death on that diet.

    • 43.5 Cabbage

I hate ducks. But telling her stop isn’t going to do any good. So, I’d say, get a b-b gun.

    Hello Everyone! *HUGS to All*

I realized that I’m about to get put on the second page, if I don’t hurry up!

    Yikes!!!

I have found myself currently watching those crazy Thailand lakorns, all thanks to Ricky The Royal Highness! I’m going to have to add a page in my Excel spreadsheet for Thai dramas now. Hey I need to update that thing with the current dramas. Then I can give updates as to the crazy amount of dramas I have watched.

One thing that can be a bit trying for watching the Thailand dramas is the two hour episodes. That and the fact that I thought my drama was only 10 episodes (20 hours total) but when I get to the end after marathoning all night long last night, it’s not the end, just all the episodes that viki.com had. *Bangs head in frustration*. They should have wrapped the story up already!!! By the way the drama is Enchanted Moon/Lhong Ngao Jun.

Watching and loving the Jdrama Hungry.
    Jdrama Switch Girl is hilarious.
    Kdrama Wild Romance
Kdrama Shut Up Flower Boy Band
    Kdrama Color of A Woman
    Tdrama Skip Beat
Thai lakorn Abyss of hell is the Colour of Pink(Awejee See Chompoo)

    • 44.1 Noelle

Love Hungry! too. Latest episode had me laughing like a loon.

      • 44.1.1 MJP

Eisuke is such an obtuse man when it comes to people! I laugh at his interactions with those he comes into contact with.

        • 44.1.1.1 MJP

Oops! I amost forgot… *HUGS* Noelle!

    • 44.2 Cabbage

I’m loving Switch Girl, also. I didn’t think they could pull off the irony of the manga, but the actress has some guts.

Happy Friday everyone! Sadly I don’t have much of a weekend, since I have piles of work to get through, but I hope everyone else gets some rest and has some fun!

    Sharing some random youtube clips:

    1. New song by Jang Jae-in – very cute, reminds me of young Avril Lavigne. Also, the video features the kid who played young Woon in Moon/Sun – so adorable!!!
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cvYXBK8xG8

    2. Jung So-min & Kim Soo-hyun for Ceci – not a fan of the music choice, but they look great together. I’d love to watch both of them in a drama.
    http://youtu.be/rtGTE40W3Ug

    3. Sleeping At Last, “Turning Page” – awesome song from the Twilight: Breaking Dawn. The lyrics remind me of Operation Proposal (which I sadly have no time to watch right now – it looks like it’ll be great)

      Hi Mellowyel! *HUGS*

I hope you are able to get all the work done. One thing I have learned in life is that work will always be there.

      • 45.1.1 mellowyel

        Hi MJP! *HUGS BACK*

yeah, i’m coming to terms with that. The thing about being a student though is that you never really have time “off” – there’s always stuff to be done. I usually make Fridays my “off” day, but there’s too much to do >.<

  46. 46 Noelle

Happy OT everyone! Hope your weekend is either fun filled or relaxing. Whichever ya need.

  47. 47 redfox

I take this chance to thank javabeans and girlfriday cause I have been catching up on some dramas and found that no matter what, I can totally trust and agree with your recommendations / ratings. Whatever you say is goo, always is. so thank you. there should be no hesitation and uncertainty what to watch. just pick whatever Dramabeans has rated as the best ones.

  48. 48 chocolate mint tea

This is not what one expects to write or read here, but it upset me so much when I learned. I have always enjoyed the scenery in Korean dramas, and note they like to promote travel, so it is sad when I saw this news:
    http://www.nytimes.com/2011/08/07/opinion/sunday/Steinem-the-arms-race-intrudes-on-a-south-korean-paradise.html?_r=1

    • 48.1 Noelle

Well thats depressing. What a dumb thing to do.

  49. 49 IzOcha

    Happy OT! Happy Friday!

I’ve been weening myself to one drama at a time-which is currently Wild Romance (its stilted but fun, love the actors work, confused by the story, praying the plot ties together. Also adore the pairings, hope the OTP gets it together soon.) But I am in love with Shut up! and am intrigued by What’s Up? I think I will watch DH2 … but I am concerned it really has become more of High School Musical, where it was in the realm of FAME originally…I suppose OT will hold the answer for when I get around to it (If ever).

    Have a wonderful day!

    *Ancestral Worship*
    (Ojakgyo Brother’s a clash of religious philosophy’s).

In episode 48 of the Korean drama “Ojakgyo Brothers”, hundreds of years of Confucian Philosophy. comes head to head once again with common sense, and reason.

    *Warning Spoiler*
*As Hwang Tae Hee, has finally discover that the person that killed his father, was non other than his girlfriends (Baek Ja Eun’s) father (Baek In Ho) , he goes and talks to his uncle (Hwang Chang Shik), and his uncle tell him that they need to brake their relationship, and gives some answer base on the religious philosophy of Ancestral Worship, as the bases for them to be prevented from ever having a full romantic relationship*.

Here we have a instance, were the lines of dogma seems to be the factor, upon where people are bound to make decisions, even when they themselves are not a fault, somehow they have to carry the sins of their fathers, since filial piety is paramount, among cultures where Confucian ancestral worship is practice, Korea being one of them.

So as a non Asian, is of no surprise that I have a bit of a hard time, accepting this premise, since ancestral worship is not part of my religious and philosophical make up, do not take me wrong, I am by no means putting down this belief, or the practice thereof, but it is clear that filial piety can at times be taken, or be interpreted in such a way, as to undermine if not fate, at least the natural order of things, turning this instance into a paradox of sorts.

The great problem that we have at this moment in time, is the shifting values of the younger generations, and the influence of other religions, such as Christianity and Islam, where the concept of “Forgiveness”, can at one point or another “cover a multitude of sins”, thus freeing the person from the responsibility, and the injury from the sins of their fathers.

Let us look at the problem more closely for a moment, is Baek Ja Eun at fault for the fact, that her father killed Hwang Tae Hee’s father, and the answer IMHO is no, so than way should we put that burden on her shoulders? And I think that at the end, it comes to the concept of retribution. Because her father got away with it so far, I know that some may say it is not fair, and indeed it is not, but should the couple be apart if Baek Ja Eun’s father have spend time in prison for his crime, than what? Are they allowed to be romantically involved than, or is she still as responsible as her father for the accident that took place?

There is one more thing that I want to add, so far we know that Baek In Ho, killed Hwang Tae Hee’s father in a hit and run accident, but no one knows if the accident was premeditated or not, so than what if the accident was not premeditated? Is she still responsible?

I do not have all the answers to this particular problem, but I must say that taking any religious/philosophical concept to the extreme, even when in the surface may appear to be the right thing to do, at the end it creates more problems then it solves, creating a vicious circle, upon which all humans get tangle, in an ever growing web of pain and suffering, that can be solve by the simple practice of forgiveness. But some may ask now, define the proper concept of forgiveness, and at that point we are all caught again, in that little web of religious philosophy.

    • 50.1 Mystisith

I understand than ( neo) confucianism is one of the roots of the korean country ( as christianity is for most of european countries ), but it’s not adapted to modern world anymore. The world, the moral codes, the society functioning is evolving so fast… That mold, that influence, will slowly disappear.
My vision of filial piety : The best you can do as a child to fulfill filial piety is to be happy. The best you can do as a parent for your child, is to protect your child happiness. When the goal is the same for both parts, surely there is a way to find an agreement.
Each one is responsible for his actions. Or for a crime should we jail all the family ? In Korea, since population is quite homogeneous, i’m sure than if you search a little bit, everyone is blood connected to each other at some degree. Should we turn the all country into a prison ?
