Happy Open Thread February 17th!
M O V I E N I G H T!
We want to do a consensus based on the last two OT movies:
1) How often?
a – Once a week
b – Bifortnightly / every two weeks
c – Monthly (Second Saturday, for instance)
d – Every other month
2) Best day of the week?
3) Best time? Base this on OT time, which is Pacific Standard Time.
4) Movie options – nationality
a – Stick with Korean
b – Try other Asian markets
c – Mix in American or english-speaking movies
d – Try other markets (European, South America, etc.)
5) Movie options – type
a – Stick with rom-com
b – Try a drama
6) Any other comments
Hi Shukmeister:)
Monthly!
Saturday!
Stick with Korean!:)
Monthly!
Saturday (though it would be Sunday in my zone)!
Stick to Korean, for the moment.
Mostly rom-com, a drama now and then.
I was not able to watch Finding Mr. Destiny with you guys during the movie time but looked at the website earlier, and read the posts later. What a blast.
This global movie watching is so daebak!
1) b or c
2) Saturday night?
3) How many hours is Pacific Standard Time from Greenwich Main Time? (I thought that was established the world’s central timeline since it doesn’t change? :-p)
4) Korean. I’m open to other Asian markets. I vote NO to any English-speaking movies. They get enough exposure as it is, I think we should expand people’s cinematic horizons into subtitled films!
5) Any!
6) How about opening the floor to film suggestions?
We definitely wouldn’t want to monopolize the movie selections, so open to the floor is welcome. We have to figure out a way to manage that, though.
Time zones. We ended up doing it when we did because that’s the time that it came up the first time, just by chance, but we aren’t committed to that in perpetuity, by any means.
We picked Pacific Standard Time as the baseline because it’s OT time and everyone could easily judge against it.
Two runs would work, or we could just alternate so that there’s an early show sometimes that would accommodate our UK friends, and a later show that would accommodate our US friends. Ricky is the farthest afield – when we watched it in the late evening in the US, he was mid-day the next day. But no one is going to make every viewing, so changing it up to allow everyone to have a chance is only fair.
We’ve also considered taking it off the OT, although I do think that others have fun reading the comments later.
Have everyone suggest films and then do an online poll? Or a draw?
OT time for me is simply Friday afternoon, around 3-ish. I truly have no idea what that translates to in terms of Pacific Standard Time, but I’ll google. (I was teasing anyhow.)
Have we got no (lurking) Kiwis and Ozzis on this board? I’m pretty sure it’s not just us UK residents, but more Europeans. But yeah, no time will work for all timezones…
Alua – Just look at the timestamp of your OT entry. Tht’s PST time.
That’s an 8 hour time difference! More than I expected.
Kiwi! I’d be keen if it works out conveniently, but I think I’m like 21 hours in the future…
I don’t mind though, this is a cool idea
11-11 – we have someone in Malaysia join us for our movie times, so it’s not impossible.
A Kiwi here!
Yay to all the Kiwis! *Waves*
No one from Oz? Or any Pacific island?
21 hours time difference is not bad, it’s actually pretty good to combine with Pacific Standard Time. The only thing we need to be careful about is to make sure to alternate Friday/Saturdays (PST) so that there are options that don’t interfere with you guys going to work on Monday.
Definately NO ENGLISH LANGUAGE FILMS!!!!!!
But seeing as I’m not gonna be able to participate… ^sigh^
Maybe we could two timezones runs? I’m in your boat (since we are in the same timezone that really doesn’t match with the predominant one on this thread.)
Exactly… It’s late at night for the US and early for Asia… but we’re in the middle (which is a pathetic, boring, stupid place… yeah… anyway… look on the bright side right?)
Did you watch the Korean film “Treeless Mountain” on BBC iplayer this week? It’s available till the 19th, possibly longer if you download it (haven’t figured that out yet, so I’m watching it tonight for sure).
iPlayer HAS A KOREAN FILM??????
Wow… BBC I’m impressed… now if you could show a drama I’d be even happier…
Anyway, positive thinking remember… there are good things to living in the UK… there has to be… and they are…?
the NHS!! Right… sorted, my whole family would be dead if we didn’t have that… so… yeah…
Positive thinking… you actually worked!
For a second…
I have that in my Netflix queue! It’s been there for a while…will you do a review on your blog? I put Duellist on my list simply because you enjoyed it. And..Kang Dong Won.
Are you on Twitter? If so, follow the KCCUK, they will announce these things there. (Actually, I picked it up from someone else, and then messaged the KCCUK, who then tweeted it.) I don’t think they announced it on FB or their website, these kind of things mostly go through Twitter.
Haha, I was thinking, maybe I should bring up the health insurance thing in terms of the goods things WE have.
Ha… it is like the only good thing we have isn’t it?
She should’ve just suduced her way across like my Grandma did back in the day ^sigh^) so I’ve heard A LOT about the US healthcare system… and none of it has been good…
Especially as my Family is sorta anglo-american (my Mum got trapped in the UK due to visa stuff
Nah I’m not on twitter but I like them on Facebook… but that normal ends up with me being depressed I can’t go to the film nights in London… ^sigh^
@JoAnne – Yep, I will definitely review it. I plan to watch it tonight, and aiming review it by next Thursday. Hangul Celluloid (a Korean film blogger I follow) has review:
http://www.hangulcelluloid.com/treelessmountain.html
and I generally heard good things about the film.
@Leaf. What part of the UK are you in?
I think we have other good things, not just the NHS. I’m saying that as non-Brit, who has only lived here for 3.5 years total (1 in Edinburgh, 2.5 in London, both of which, I realise, are rather privileged places).
You should plan a London visit to coincide with a Korean Film Night or the Korean Film Festival (-:
I come from the South-west
Not there at the moment as at Uni. And yeah, London and Edinburgh are probably the 2 best places in the UK
But unfortunately it looks like no travelling to London for me as I barely have enough money to cover food ^sigh^
@Leaf
Just got this on Twitter:
“THIRST (Park Chan-wook) will be shown on Film4 tomorrow (Sat, Feb 18) at 11pm – part of Film4′s vampire season”
(Too bad I’m not into vampire films. But anyhoooo, more Korean films on British TV.)
Will update you on the OT about these things, Leaf, since you aren’t on Twitter!
I actually have the DVD of that… been meaning to watch it but I don’t like watching films on my own… Dramas fine but not films..
And I should get that info via Facebook soon… but obviously Facebook isn’t as quick as Twitter ^glares^ So don’t worry! I won’t miss anything!
BBC4 have a foreign language film about once a week. It’s a fairly variable selection but Treeless Mountain was a wonderful choice this week, one of my favourite Korean films from a couple of years back.
Film 4 is a better bet for the better known ones – it’s shown pretty much all the Park Chan-Wook, it likes The Host, and it’s got the UK theatrical version of The Good, The Bad and The Weird.
Generally there aren’t many East Asian films on though – I was involved in a film list a few years back and we tried to give a heads-up if there were any on TV, and we were lucky if we had a couple a month (Film 4 also have a few Ozu they occasionally show).
But Treeless Mountain – a very definite thumbs up. Far better than the somewhat similar themed The Way Home.
Hi Leaf, I’m from the South West too! This is actually my first post cos I feel so shy about posting here. The only Korean films I’ve seen on UK TV are ‘The Host’, ‘Thirst’, ‘I’m a cyborg…but thats ok’ and I watched Treeless Mountain when it was on the other night. (That was the only one I hadn’t seen before it was on TV so I was really excited). The only channels that seem to show Korean films are Film4, Channel 4 & BBC4. It happens rarely but I always check each week in the hope they’ll show one!
WHAT!????? Another K drama fan from the South West???
What part do you come from??? I’m from Devon/Dartmoor area.
Seriously this is epic!! The South West is like a cultural black hole so anyone different is a miracle!!!
Welcome Emma, to our crazy in-verse. Feel free to ask anything!
@ Leaf: Sorry I’m a bit late replying, hope you still see this. I live in Somerset, near Bristol and Bath. My Nan lives down in Devon!
@Shukmeister: Thank you!
Wow… still impressed there is another K drama fan from the South West!!!
Anyway welcome to OT!!! Everyone’s super nice here so keep on coming!!!
Monthly
Saturday
7-8pm
Stick w/ Korean for now… other Asian markets maybe later?
Either or for the movie type
I’ve been a little out of the loop the past few OTs, what is this movie thing I’ve been hearing about and how does one (namely, me, I’m just feeling a little pretentious today) get involved?
Essentially, we decide on film, time and place to stream. Everyone stream movie at the same time (some came in late last week) and comment on OT as we watch. If you check comments on last week’s OT, you will see where we started watching movie and our comments throughout.
Hey Tiac -
You can check page 3 and of the previous OT. Basically, we all the same movie at the same time in our respective locales, commening as we go along on the thread. Some of us are a few minutes ahead or behind of the others, and it makes for some fun conversation.
Last week it was Finding Mr. Destiny. The week before it was Cyrano Dating Agency.
Monthly
Saturday
7pm
All Asian films!
Preferably comedy
Thanks for organizing this Shukmeister! I hope we can do it
Thanks, Mellow!
Although it’s our west coast Movie Noonas who are in charge. They just asked me to put up a pole as early as possible upthread, and I beat out Leaf [WOOT! Fist in the air], for the first slot.
I’m a third shift worker on the east coast, so I usually work nights, and can’t always be online when these are scheduled. I missed most of the first one, for instance.
Once again I let you win
I WANTED you to win!!
[looking at timestamp showing one minute difference]
I told you that was because I got bored… and started refreshing and refreshing…
And if you notice the post says that I gave up first place… which I wouldn’t have written if I was actually trying to get first post, so there
you’re welcome! I’m on the east coast too, so I may/may not be able to join in depending on what time it is. hope I can though – this sounds fun!
OMG…just spent a happy happy happy hour picking through your blog. (Just one more post, then another, then another…tomorrow morning me and my coffee are just going to go to the beginning and read everything.)
Bopping along to Siji right now. Holy crap.
I’d actually like to suggest that we watch classic film. I just started watching them again and they are really just as zany and adorable as some kdramas. I’m not very familiar with international classic film but I’d be happy to include them.
hi ajb… just got back to checking OT thread and i’m curious about this movie watching thingy… care to share, thanks heaps.
it started two weeks ago with cyrano dating agency being watched by a group of oters while simultaneously oting. it was so much fun they invited everyone to the next one and that one was also a lot of fun so they decided everyone who ot’s should join and in order to draw everyone in we have this post.
1) Monthly
2) Friday or Saturday
3) Anytime after 7:00 pm PST works for me
4) Korean and maybe other Asian Markets
5) Rom-Com, Action (Maybe historical movies … I have never seen one)
Thanks for organizing it. I like the suggestion about alternating times so that our European friends can join in the fun. After OB ends this weekend, my weekends are totally free as I can always wrap my activities to suit and unlikely to take up another weekend drama soon.
Hey we thought alike
Different times but not necessarily same movie
Your European friends thank you kindly for your consideration and send you some yummy virtual European chocolate.
Thanks
My dad used to go to the lindt factory to get some (boxes) every time I went back home. But I told him to stop. I really love chocolate and it was too much temptation for me
1) b or c
2) Sat
3)how was last week? I think was 7 pm Pacific, 10 Est Coast
4) a. only Korean for now
5)Any kind but Horror
I see You were able to be first Shukmeister
I was thinking
Why don’t we do alternative weeks with different times, so those in Europe and some parts of Asia can join the fun
Thinking…thinking….what if we come up with a movie schedule and then….
that movie runs for a month. Two Fridays, one early, one late, two Saturdays, one early, one late.
It sound interesting, though I would rather not to do the same movie, just in case someone wants to participate both times.
but creating an schedule of movies, sound like the best thing to do
@ JoAnne -
The other thing is, I don’t want to step on the toes of other OT’ers, so having movie night on Friday would not be good, I think. At least, by Saturday evening USA time, the thread has slowed down enough to make it feasible.
Good point, Shuk. I had a flash of inspiration, but because I’m old I didn’t realize it’s the same flash I had and dismissed already before – we talked about this last week, I’m pretty sure!
We want to be respectful of the main purpose of the OT and while I think that the movies fall within the heart of it (community, discussion of Korean dramas and movies, etc) – consideration for the desires of others is important. There are a lot more people here than just the most vocal, and taking over OT for a movie many won’t be watching is like skateboarders doing tricks on a crowded sidewalk. Not cool!
That is an interesting idea. But wouldn’t you need a “leader” to start the show (so to speak) on each night it is running?
I think so, that means some one has to commit to be there no matter what.
But I guess we can chose the movie and dates, and those who can say at what time they sign in for
Happy Friday Weekend, Shukmeister!
Weekly!
Friday!
Korean! (for now)
Rom-coms! (occasional dramas may be warranted, so there should be some wiggle room)
I haven’t been able to participate yet (dratted busy weekends!) but I love this idea and that it’s working out. Also, I’m saying weekly so that ppl can hop on and off this train of joy w/o feeling like they’re missing out. If you get burn out…don’t watch for a few weekends. On vacation, going to a wedding, need to work overtime…catch you next weekend.
Hey CMRPrin!
Glad you’re enjoying the fanfic. Several of our nakama hail from France, so stay tuned to see how I incorporated them into the story. As for the mysterius figure at the airport, I haven’t seen her online as yet today…
As an update for those who are still monitoring this thread, Chapter 18 is up on the fan-fic.
Wait what’s this about?
Kmovie night. We’ve done it two weeks in a row and it has been fun.
A time and a movie are set, and whomever wants and can participate watch it at the same time while commenting in OT
See my response in 1.6.1 as I previously described.
Check upthread, Noelle.
OMG How did I miss this? I’ve been so busy…*sob*
1) I think we should do bimonthly and screen the same movie 2 weeks in a row so people who miss once can come the second time! (IE MEEEEE)
2) Honestly, Friday, Sat, Sun are best for me in terms of watching time.
3) 6-10ish EST? so… 3-7ish PST (But I LOVE staying up late…so BRING IT)
4) Stick to Asian Markets because I watch non-Asian films in RL all the time and you guys give me an awesome field for discussion with Asian films.
5) I don’t care. I just wanna watch movies with you guys
6) GREAT IDEA!!! So we just go to a streaming site and all watch the movie?
Wondered where you were today…
First one happened by accident, a few of us were up late and checked OT and Ricky happened to mention he was watching a movie…
Second one was deliberate and lots of fun.
Now we’re trying to figure out how to corral the beast and give everyone a chance to ride.
I’m totally on board. I’m ALWAYS lonely while watchign shows and spazzing by myself. Zgznoona is often on twitter with me holding my heart in her hands as I sob and rant!
You know I there any time for you, or any one else in need to discuss, cry, rant, or rave
Zgznoona UNNI is the best:D
So what is the status on the movie? Should we have another place to host the discussion?
Hi Shukmeister
1. Bimonthly
2.Saturday evening
3.Ot Time
4. Mix it up!
5. b
Thanks!

Anyone want to consider possible movies for next week?
–
We still have Petty Romance, which was our alternate last week.
Also, in this week’s OT Thread (String # 63), talks about Penny Pincher on Dramacrazy.net.
Any thoughts?
I’m open for anything! Did anyone email JB to ask about a thread for this?
Not to my knowledge.
Movie noonas? Anyone?
Hi – just caught this (the ‘reply’ response option is coming in handy, popping up in my email) – anyway, I just watched ‘Penny Pincher’ last night, having remembered that JB did a review of it a while back.
It would fulfill the genre requirements. It seems to be a mash-up rom/com/drama. It’s amusing, kinda depressing, well-acted, and the pairing of the two leads is rather strange. But, it was a nice movie with a nice ending.
I noticed that someone vetoed horror movies (which I agree with), but maybe we can consider the thriller genre? Specifically “Blind” – it has two strong actors that many of us love, a tight plot, very atmospheric, and plenty of tension. KHN won a Best Actress for it, and being paired with our sexy sweetie from WBDS is just special.
As long as it’s on a platform that’s available to everyone, I’m open to suggestions.
===
Did Ricky *ever* show up?
Probably we shoukd post results next week as well, since many might have miss it and vote then for Sat movie night
Happy OT everyone!!!
Hope you have a good week!
And yes… I got bored with being first
Hey Leaf – Happy Friday!
How are you doing? I’m just finishing up the last three episode’s of “Summer Desire” with Peter Ho.
I loved summer desire. I have no idea why! must be because of peter ho! because the story is kind of wierd.
Kissing scenes maybe? Second lead Huang Xiao Ming is hot, with that half-smile and those nibble-able lips…
Ah! yup! now i remember. It was the kiss scenes. The one in the middle of the road? HOT!
Hmmm… ages ago I was debating whether I should watch Summer’s Desire or not… is it worth it?
The plot’s bit…well…makjangy with all types of kid / teenager / adult lines of separation between the primary and secondary characters. Not a bad watch, though.
I like all the makjang in it. Mostly because it stands out from the typical Twdrama crowd.
Agree, Deeno. Still haven’t seen the last two epi’s as I’m drifting in and out of consciousness trying to get some sleep banked for this evening’s 12-hour rescue duty.
Still, with all the misunderstandings and diseases and family tree twists and turns, it’s been an interesting time!
Heh… I kinda like makjang… but when it’s done well (?)
I actually really enjoyed Autumn’s Concerto mainly because I thought the charectors were really well developed and generally understandable…
So… yeah maybe I’ll check it out… although I suppose I should really be watching Mainland Dramas as they’re in simplified charectors…
Ah well… I’m waiting for Da mo yao!!!
I’m fine thanks
Got my results back this week which was worrying but I did well (89% in my Mandarin yay!!)
But unfortunately it looks like I won’t be studying abroad in Korea… not gonna lie, I was in tears when I found out… ^sigh^ But seeing as contrary to what everyone thinks I believe I am a (generally) positive person… so I’m trying to look on the bright side… at least I have enough money now to go to China and Vietnam over the summer which is awesome as well!
I haven’t really been watching any dramas recently… I don’t know what it is but none of them have really appealed to me…
Anyway enough about me… How was your week Unni? And I hope you’re spending lots of time on your most excellent Fan fiction
Doing good! Made some awesome ribs last night, just got off work about 2 hours ago.
It’s foggy outside here but all is bright in OT Land!
Sorry about the Korean thing, but you’re still young enough to plan it for another year! It’s great that you’ll getba chance to use your Mandarin skills for real. Unless you’re talking about your skill with oranges…lol.
LOL… 89% success rate in peeling Mandarin without getting juice everywhere
It’s a high level skill!!
It’s those white stringy things that lower your score – LOL.
Nah… I’m an expert at those bits!!
(This was a joke but now thinking about it I love oranges and I am really fussy about them so I actually do get really obcessive about doing them well… ^sigh^)
Fan-fic is up to Chapter 17 and 10K words. Starting to bring in the darker elements and link the different characters together.
I’m feeling a bit like Charles Dickens writing serial novels – lol – I want to keep the plot going but have the occasional cliffhanger too!
And have it ultimately make some sort of sense, especially since most of my chapter writing is between midnight and 4am, and no editor to pointt out flaws.
Have to add your OCD for oranges somewhere too….
ha… my OCD is insane… it’s on everything BUT my room…. which is a biohazard…
Yeah… weekend reading.
That’s next on my Peter Ho list. I’m already listening to some of the music. Sigh. Peter Ho…
No shower scene, though. At least, not yet.
Well there’s plenty of skin in Ring Ring Bell and I am STILL laughing over his introduction of…um…himself to her when she comes face to face with his junk.
“Say Hi”
Ahem.
It was just such a real scene. Men really are like that. So proud of themselves.
Introduction to “junk”? Well I’m convinced. This drama will be a part of my weekend viewing. Much obliged.
@CruelSummer – we are not treated to quite the view she is…just upper torso and some thigh. But there’s lots of upper torso throughout the series, lucky for us. Lots of kissing and hugging too.
I have just come up with a movie. In all awards ceremonies, I will give proper credit and thanks to the person who finally connected all the dots for me: CruelSummer
Introduction to Junk: A mature KDrama viewer is secretly transported through time and space by a handsome Conductor who can magically put her ‘behind the scenes’ during the filming of any Post-Army Shower Scene (PASS). Once on location, a cranky Scheduler will assist the viewer in positioning herself in a prime location for a true ‘behind the scenes’ view. The viewer flirts with both Conductor and Scheduler, who becomes increasingly cranky as he realizes that he has not yet filmed his own PASS. Will he look up someday to realize that a stranger is viewing his junk? Will he mind, when he sees her smile approvingly? Will the Conductor himself rush to film a PASS of his own?
Bwahahaha…awesome. Now will our souls be transported into some unsuspecting actress, Secret Garden-style? Because if that’s the case I’m ruining the lives and careers of some of Asia’s most promising starlets
Scandals left and right!
WHERE IS RICKY?
Anyone else here hearing “Magic Carpet Ride” by Steppenwolf? Just sayin’.
And I think JoAnne’s been stealing a bit of Shel’s Magic Pain Pills…
She’s welcome to them, I’m not using them, lol.
OK….that was me ^ up there….That’s what I get for letting my daughter use my computer…..I forgot to change the poster’s Name.
Shel!! Welcome back, even without the narcotics!
Watched it last year. Kind of makjang but liked it for some reason. Mostly because of Peter Ho, I think. He’s hot!
The second lead is very handsome, but I think he had plastic surgery and that made him less attractive. Also, Barbie Xu looked kind of haggard.
I also liked the OST, especially Peter Ho’s version of the love theme. However, they overdid the Black Cat and Milk Song.
It’s Peter’s nose right? JoAnne is obsessed with Peter Ho’s schnoz…
Yeah. It’s the nose. And the lips and the eyes that crinkle when he smiles and the smooth brown sugar skin and the height and the long, lean muscles and the smile and the way he busts out with the English for no reason and the smile and…
Down, girl…
Lol, I couldn’t help but notice all the Peter Ho talk. I was like woah woah woah…should I even get in on this? I have a picture of him saved on my computer in a folder cleverly titled “Cute Guyz”.
Yeah, you can guess what’s in there LOL
I’ve watched Summer’s Desire. It was angsty and good but so hard to tell who was the male lead and who was the second male lead sometimes. I watched all of it though!
I guess I should Ring Ring Bell next, I like that actress too (:
Hi Leaf
How have you been?
Fine thanks! My life plods along doing nothing particularly interesting with me daydreaming about a day when I can go see the world and do interesting things…
This involves having money (I’ve heard that you are unlikely to ever rise above the income level of your Parents on so I guess I’m completely doomed…^sigh^) and losing weight… so diet FIGHTING!!!
Anyhow… how have you been Unni?
Don’t worry, you can get rich if you really want to.I know a lot of people who are way richer than their parents, not me though!
I’ve been busy working and working and watching Yoon Shi-yoon!:D
Well watching K drama guys is pretty much the best use of time there is!!
Happy OT to you Leaf:)
Thanks!!!!
Hope youu have a good week!!
Happy OT, Leaf!
So kind of you to let someone else be first
How was your week, dear? Any plans for the weekend?
I figured it was about time
I couldn’t help myself though and kept on refreshing the page again and again getting frustrated that it wasn’t appearing ha. Hence why I was second whereas I’d meant to just turn up whenever ^sigh^
And my plan for the weekend is to put in the application for a job and play Quidditch… so nothing too exciting…
Anyway, how was your week? Hope you have a good weekend!!!
My week was normalish, which was very strange :s My weekend will be appropriately odd, however. 2 baby showers and a family-friend gathering. I’ll be more tired after this 3-day weekend than when I started, but it should be fun
I’ll get to see my goddaughter and 1 of the showers is for a friend I haven’t seen in ages.
Lemme know how Quidditch goes. Haven’t caught a game in too long
No…you just got beat, admit it!
NO I DIDN’T!!!! I fully inteaded to not be first today as it doesn’t give me the sense of achievement it use to do!!
And plus the Movie Unnis needed first post!
Uh-huh…you know I’ll NEVER believe you. But you’re right, the movie thing is the most awesome OT idea. I love love love love it.
Well fine. Don’t believe me. But I am ACTUALLY TELLING THE TRUTH!!!
Mmm-hmmm…
[snerk]
Hi everyone!
Loving operation proposal right now. and ofcourse Shutup BB.
YSH aah! why so cute??? or should i say, why so young?
It’s my b’day today, and I only older
Really! why can’t we have one of those grow younger b’days every year?
happy birthday!
Wishing you a very Happy Birthday!
happy birthday aoiaheen!!!! see i don’t have that problem.. i’m turning 23 for the 4th time this april… i think it’s more about how you feel… but i have the samme problem with the shut-up boys..why so young…. they make me feel like a creep sometimes…but then again…even the 30yersold korean actors look not a day older than…5 … ^^
“30yersold korean actors look not a day older than…5″
ha ha! so true! I was thinking of Rain when you said that! That guy looks young… !
Since he is MINE, his age is irrelevant. Pretend he does not exist.
You’ve already MINE’d him? when did that happen?
Rain? First minute I laid eyes on him. Before I ever even knew about OT. Then I came here and found out that Raine had a claim, but I plotted diabolically and charmed her into calling me Unni, and then begged her to give him to me.
I have said in the past that people can look but not touch, but even with the looking…don’t stare. Just admire, compliment, and move along, people.
Thanks for letting me know the rules. I think we need a “MINE” notice board on DB with a list of who belongs to whom.
I think we did compile a list on the last OT…
Watch your back, JoAnne. If you let your guard down even a little, it’s on
Suddenly imagining me against…well, pretty much everyone, a la Chris Pine and Tom Hardy in This Means War
Or Jet Li during the ending of ‘The One’. Battling it out until the end of time. Tell your man to stop being so sexy, then there would be no problems, lol.
He’s gotta get old and fat someday, right? Right?
… a girl gets TIRED.
Guys, I already battled it out with JoAnne unni. She get’s Bi, I get Park Shi-hoo. That is a fact of life. Unless she wants to share. I don’t share. Shi-hoo oppa = MINE. Finding Nemo seagull style.
Hey some of those actors up on Shutup BB are in their mid-20s … not that young (if you are 23 for the 4th time, iena). And why can’t the OT women be cougars … it isn’t only celebrities any more. Unfortunately for me, I pretty much realized that I could have been their mom. Feeling my age here, guys.
oh, Hillary…
I was feeling pretty dirty this week when I realized the cute boy in the video I sneak to watch is actually a year younger than my daughter…who is 30 years younger than I am.
Fortunately, I have since seen him on a music show and dressed normally (ie, NOT in dark aviators, skin tight jeans and dark red Doc Martins, dancing like he could give lessons to Chippendales) he looks like an exceptionally pretty 8 year old girl.
Apparently, I’m only going to hell if he stays in costume.
Ok..who are you talking about? This is the second time you’ve mentioned Doc/Aviator boy. I want to share in the pervy fun
Youtube. Teen Top, Crazy. Watch the video. You’ll see him. Then google images of Ahn Daniel. They’re what saved me from perdition, in the end.
Oh my…I’m traumatized. Korea needs to impliment some new laws. No gyrating and crotch grabbing until you are able to grow body hair.
Sheesh…if boys were moving like that when I was a pre-teen I would have shamed my entire family.
I know, right? I watch between my fingers even though I’m the only one in my house. It’s just WRONG but they do it so WELL!
Plus the non dance scenes are a cute story, and the song is a lot of fun to listen to.
But OMG that BOY.
I am so glad I have company. This proves I am not a perve, right? Or does it prove that I am… LOL.
I feel ya, girl. Every time I look at those SUFBB I feel myself whispering, come to ajumma…err I mean noona. Oh well. I can admire the pretty from afar, can’t I?
Just admit it…we’re all cradle robbing noonas.
I know I am…lol
I realized I forgot to say SUFBB boys, but maybe they’re men, too? I don’t know…damn getting flustered…it’s like high school all over again!
Well, all the boys in Eye Candy are cute but only Sung Joon actually appeals to me at this moment. There was a day when Do-Il would have done for, too, but the others – cute but in a random, as I walk by I notice kind of way. Not in the I’m going to STALK you kind of way.
Seung Hoon, I know a lot of people like him and I did like him in his model persona on BOF, but here..he just looks constipated.
Happy Birthday!! Hope you have a great day!!!
Seconding Leaf!!
Hi aoiaheen
Happy birthday:)
@aoiaheen sweetie!! Saengil chughahamnida to my Fellow Sister-in-Lust — lots of fantastic birthday wishes to you, my dear! MWAH!!
Hi aoiaheen.
‘why so cute??? or should i say, why so young?’
Definitely know this feeling.
As to age it’s a state of mind I think. I like knowing what I know from the years I’ve spent here but I can still appreciate the cute:)
And happy birthday!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday! May the Shut Up Flowerboy Band sing you a birthday song!
Happy Birthday!!! Spend the day watching dramas
Age is a state of mind. I’m stuck at 18, and it’s been years since. Haha!
생일축하합니다 (saengil chukha hamnida)! Keep the kid within and you won’t feel a day older.
all the best!
“You’re only as old as you feel” – Some days that’s about 112, but in most cases much much younger.
Thanks everyone!
I’m really glad my b’day fell on a friday this year. I’ve been giggling at the OT comments for the last hour! Nice start to the B’day.
I have no idea where my first birthday comment went, but Happy Birthday (again, sorta).
Happy Birthday!!
Happy Birthday!
Happy Bday! ^^
Age is just a number… don’t worry! Have a good Friday!
Happy birthday!!
Happy birthday. When it falls on a Friday, make a weekend out of the celebration.
Hey Happy Birth Day. When you find the technique to become one year younger let me know. I’ll use it from then on to stay for ever this age. OK maybe go back 4 or 5.
I hope you have a great weekend
Happy Birthday, aoiaheen! Celebrate in style! Y’know, things get more precious as they age, so this is a good thing, the getting older.
Happy birthday, aoiaheen.
Is Operation Proposal really good? I have been reading the recaps and thinking about it … on the fence right now.
I really like it. The chemistry between the leads is really good and I love how the story shows the hero growing as a person. YSH is adorable in it. It is light hearted but it still has some angst in it but the good kind.
If you like rom-coms then i think you should try it.
I love rom-coms. Actually hate angst but cannot get away from it with korean dramas … sigh.
Color of Woman, for example, was supposed to be a rom-com … started watching it because it was a rom-com … and ended up watching trainwreck instead. Just had to mention … I am still bitter about wasting that much time on it.
OP is based on a japanese drama and the korean one is much better, story wise. If they dont do anything silly in the end, it should be a happy ending and a satisfying one as well. *fingers crossed*
Ok… Will try it out. I have a long weekend this week … 3 long days to watch kdramas.
@aoiaheen HBD.
Happy Birthday!
Happppy birthday! Mine was last week! Happy birthday month buddies!
Hey! you’re an aquarian too
I missed OT last week. Happy belated bday.
Happy OT everyone!
I can’t even describe how much I am loving SUFBB! That kiss! I was totally not expecting it….
Yeah! me too! Things are really going fast there
and to repeat what the DB’ers all agreed with on the episode recap comments. AAHHHH! that jawline!
The jawline, the hand hold, the fact that it was actually a real kiss…. *melts*
Oh the hand hold! it was so hot it was practically indecent!
I just watched it AGAIN. Ji-hyuk may as well have been taking off her coat. So hot…AND the guide song he sung earlier was playing in the background! Wowie… *sweat*
Eek! haven’t seen the episode yet!!
Don’t worry, words alone don’t do it justice. You are in for a treat!
Ok, just dashed off for a quick peek at the rooftop smoochies. Me likey!!
Sigh. He’s perfect.
I still wouldn’t call Sung Joon cute but he sure is sexy … and love his moves (especially on the rooftop).
That hand-held kiss is going to be a strong replay candidate (I think I replayed it 5 times on dramafever until I figured out that somewhere on youtube, it has already been cut appropriately… LOL).
SHARE THE LINK, WOMAN!
Sorry… For your viewing pleasure and the other insatiable OT followers of Shut Up Flower Boy Band.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8xHrb7brFuw&feature=related
Geez…I didn’t even mean to watch it five times in a row. It just happened that way.
But wow…the hand holding and grasping her by the neck. It’s like he’s planning on being there for a while. Seriously…stop the madness, Kdramas!! These guys and those hot kisses do not exist in real life.
Speak for yourself, Cruelsummer. I have had a few of those in my lifetime… LOL.
*Raises hand*
Oh yes, they do exist. Unfortunately they usually come from the boys you aren’t going to want to spend forever with.
*starts counting fingers and smiling*
Lucky. Every hot guy I’ve ever dated gave kisses that were as appealing as being smacked by a dead fish. Even the guy I ended up marrying was a notoriously bad kisser. That should have been a warning.
@JoAnne- You hit the nail on the head. I was always too much of a punk to do the legit ‘bad boy’ thing. Always went for the cute and safe. Gah…I wasted my youth
May be that is why I am still single… LOL. I think I went with every bad guy out there… or rather, every guy I ever went out with were great kissers but had no relationship staying power.
Sung Joon can hold my hand any day. *hawt*
Me too….and that’s a highly inappropriate comment since he’s twice my age and I’m married. :0)
But we can all dream and fantasize, right? And not necessarily about significant other?
@shel
I feel ya, girl. K-drama Cougars Anonymous meets here every Friday.
It was even better because we could imagine than the poor girl was hearing her heart pounding from the heights fright. If i overcome mine, will i be rewarded the same way ?
And now like GF, i want my own rooftop room : I think prices will skyrocket in Korea.
Hi everyone!
So last week I had so much fun crashing open thread that I’ve decided to crash parties for real! Although I don’t think people will have the same reaction in the real world, hmm…
I just finished marathoning me too flower and even though it wasn’t the greatest drama,Yoon Shi-yoon was way too cute to be ignored so I made a video for him. Here’s the link if you’d like.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VoYkLaHWzOE&context=C3085946ADOEgsToPDskL9_1kCTPrPo4tj4ej2Joml
Now I need some suggestions for my next video project.I wanna make a video of drama couples who are absolutely perfect for each other, those that you’re sure that no matter what, they’ll stay together and love each other…for me Jim and Pam from the office are like that, they complete each other, they’re just perfect, and in Korean drama couples I think Han-Gyul and Eun-Chan from coffee prince or Tae-Wong and Miho are like that.Let me know which couples you think are perfect so that I can make a good video. Thanks!
Definately do the crashing Parties for real!!
Hope you have a good week!!
I like Kim Sun Ah and CSW from “City Hall”, especially the makeout session in the car and the final gardden scene – great onscene chemistry!
Ooh!The makeout session,that’s a good one!
City Hall ! Yes! The wife & I are watching this, 2 episodes left. I love Kim Sun Ah.
Definitely City Hall!
And I like the May-December romance of What’s Up, Fox?, escpecially since the jailbait has a better handle on their relationship than the ditz-noona. LOL. Favorite scene: in his bedroom up against the column, both holding their breath – epic!
What’s up fox…Now I miss PIE!
Their chemistry is awesome. I saw some gifs the other day of City Hall and was reminded of the hotness. I love that look of confusion on CSW’s face every time he finds himself wanting to be with KSA and being drawn to her. Stop making me want to re-watch! I swear I just rewatched CH about three weeks ago.
It makes me wonder if CSW has something in his contract that ensures smoldering kisses? I mean I know he’s married and he may or may not be getting a kick out of it, but he’s probably like “I’m a grown 40+ year old man, there’s no way I’m doling out some chaste pre-school kisses.”
Yeah, those awkward bug-eyed kissing scenes are certainly not for him!
Um, it wasn’t exactly a LOVE scene, but if you like CSW’s, um, make-out scenes as much as I do, you’ve got to catch his, um, sex scene (really can’t call it a love scene, cause it’s not) with Lee Ji-ah in Athena. Smoking!
I saw some gifs the other day of City Hall…
I’d love to have a gif of Kim Sun Ah doing her swimsuit flash from City Hall.
Lol, she’s crazy.
Um Sethe;) I don’t think I’ll include that um,sex scene in my video,I wanna make a happy cutesy video for now, maybe after that I’ll make one of the hot couples…
@John,yeah that scene was hilarious,I’ll probably use that, thanks for reminding me!
i really love dong-ah and tae-han from wild romance. they’re both so strange i can’t imagine either one of them with anyone else.
i’ll love it if you could make a video of them!
You’re right , They are the sweetest weird couple ever!
I second Dong-ah and Tae-han. So weird, but so good together!! What’s up with his hanbok fantasy (WR ep 14)? hahah…
Yeah,They are one of the weirdest but the best couples ever,so funny together!
That reminds me of the drama, Bad Couple, where Shin Eun-Kyung tried to seduce Ryu Su-Yeong by wearing all sorts of hot outfits… even going so far as to show a silhouette of her undressing through a screen, which didn’t work. She did not want the guy, she just wanted to get pregnant so that her child will get his great genes.
She finally got him into her bed when she wore a hanbok… LOL.
I haven’t seen Bad Couple,is it good?Judging from the scene you just explained it’s probably funny.
I started watching Bad Couple and dropped it twice … because the Shin Eun-Kyung played a very “aggressive” female (which, while funny, really turned me off). She’s is the aggressive, thoroughly modern, boss of a magazine who wants a baby and doesn’t believe in marriage. He is a botanist and the conservative first son of a traditional family (hence his love of the hanbok) who doesn’t believe in sex outside of marriage.
But I loved Ryu Su-Yeong and there were comments in dramafever for viewers to really “stick” with show as it got better. I normally view shows which have the highest ratings and Bad Couple was one of those.
What sealed the deal with me to give it another go was Dramabeans’ recaps. I figured if Javabeans continued to recap the entire drama (and you know, she drops them when they start going south), then it was worth giving it another try. The third time was the charm. I ended up absolutely loving that show. I think it got better in the 5th or 6th episode. And, I replay the last 4-5 episodes quite frequently. Absolutely love this drama.
After reading what you said, my first thought was 5 or 6 episodes to get good?!That is too long!I don’t think I can stick with it.But then I remembered some of my favorite dramas were like that too. I guess I’ll give it a try. Thanks!
I remember that! I think it’s hot in a nerdy-sexy sort of way that these guys prefer the hanbok. =P Regarding Bad couple, unlike others who posted about it, I loved the beginning episodes and then hated the last half.
For me, Bad Couple was cute and funny – and it didn’t take me 5 or 6 eps to start liking it. I enjoyed it from the first ep, on. And it’s one of the few where I really loved the ending.
SPOILER ALERT
I also liked the ending of Bad Couple. Hey, miracle cure saving mother and baby … so my thing, however improbable. And mother goes from not being able to have kids to getting one of each with a few years in between. Happy ending. What more can you want?
I love happy endings,as long as my beloved couple stay together and alive I’m happy.Miraculous recoveries don’t bother me at all.Good to know it has a happy ending!
Thanks for the vid shirin-noona. Those 2 are the cutest couple on Earth, i swear.
I know,right?!
Hwang Tae-hee and Baek Ja-eun from Ojakgyo Brothers, it was epic. It’s 58 episodes and you get to see their love story from start to finish, the puzzled glances, the awkward tie tying, the froggy dance, playing mook-chi-pa the most heartbreaking breakup scene and the best reconciliation ever, they’re giving us a wedding yippeeeee.
How come I didn’t think of them??I absolutely loooooveeeee them! Thanks for the idea!
Oh yeah I second them, too. I love them, from start to finish…and they end up married, too! Yay!!!!!!
Hi,
And let’s not forget Tae Bom (sp?) and SY, his wife. I thought they had great chemistry as well and their comedic timing was just great. They were very funny, when they were funny. I can think of many scenes: in the bedroom, after they have acknowledged their feelings to one another, when Tae Bom comes and catches her making sexy poses, before that in the bathroom, when TB is getting ready and she walks in on him, in the next episode, at the office when TB tries to kiss her (or hug her) and the boss walks in on them, there is the tea scene, when TB burns himself because he drinks his tea quickly so his mother in law will leave, and then in the bedroom when the mother in law’s voice interrupts their hug or something, etc…(there are so many scenes of them being funny). And they are so many scenes of them being romantic and cute in the process. There are the ways TB looks at SY (throughout the drama but especially after he confesses his feelings to her in episode 46, I think), we have that look in the hospital when she is sleeping and he is looking at her (if that doesn’t say I’m so in love with you, I don’t know what does. And he looks like he could do it for hours and not mind), there’s the scene in the grocery store (they are so cute!!!!) when they are shopping together, the different scenes when they hug each other (by accident and on purpose), the scene when he listens to the baby by putting his head on the tummy, etc… I could go on and on. They were an amazing couple I thought and they had great chemistry, even in their fights.
I hope you will consider making a video about them as well (you will have many scenes. The scene in episode 5 [I think] when they realize they just slept together the morning after is quite funny as well!). You would have a lot of material, if you made a video about them. And the scene where they confess their feelings for each other again in episode 46 (I think) after their radio show when he takes her home was awesome. It was heartfelt, genuine, there were tears and it looked great. I bought what they were selling (I believed in their characters and in what they were going through).
OK, I will stop my rave on Tae Bom and SY, with the hope that you will make a video of them
Ivoire,I loved your detailed explanations.Knowing which scene is in which episode is a great help. These two are so cute together.I will definitely include them in my vid. Thanks!
Maybe I should make a video for the Ojagkyu couples…All of them are cute!
@Ivoire
Oh yeah, I do like Tae-bom and Soo-young, too. It was so funny when they had that fight in the editing room, but then hours later, jumped into bed. haha… I also thought it was cute when Tae-bom explained to Soo-young how he got the name Cha-gom for their baby. Very sweet.
Gong Ah Jung & Hyun Ki Joon of Lie To Me.
drama may not be as hot, but the tandem smolders.
Oh and Lee Yeon Jae & Kang Ji Wook of Scent of a woman. Flammable chemistry.
iZzie I’m actually looking for the cute,Gong Ah Jung & Hyun Ki Joon were smoldering hot ( who can forget the cola kiss!) but I don’t think they were cute.I wanna make a happy cutesy video for now, maybe after that I’ll make one of the hot couples, hmm…
Sorry, I forgot about ‘cute’
When i think of cute couple, i think of Best Love.
Best Love was cute, but my heart broke into a million pieces for Yoon Pil-joo…I’ll probably include them too. Thanks!
Cutesy couple? Personal Taste with Lee Min Ho.
I didn’t want to bring it up and have OTs on my case because I love Personal Taste. And Lee Min Ho and Son Ye Jin had great chemistry I thought.
Umm,I think they were too cutesy…I don’t know,I just didn’t like them all that much..(Am I going to be safe after saying that or should I go hide?;))
I loved that show. The “game over” kiss was the first time I thought of LMH as a grown up. :0)
I loved every minute of Personal Taste. I laughed when they did, I cried when they did, my heart STOPPED when he did the game over kiss…and I LOVED LOVED LOVED his buddy who pretends to be gay and her friend that was married.
Yes, his buddy pretending to be gay was hysterical, definitely a highlight of the show. My only actual complaints about it were that evil dad was way over the top, he gave me the “willies” to even look at him, and the evil 2nd lead, who was just TOO evil, although I really like the actress.
Now that I have company, I can say that Personal Taste is definitely one of my top 15 dramas. And, I too thought that the “Game Over” kiss really ignited my love for Lee Min Ho. Ok, I admit it, it was Boys Over Flowers … Don’t kill me, OTs.
Yeah, Hill, you’re losing me on that one. I stuck with BOF for Jihoo Sunbae, and the sheer incredulity I felt that there could actually be a tv show where a mother would BUY A BUILDING SO SHE COULD TEAR IT DOWN to break up her son and the poor girlfriend.
I truly could not and still cannot understand the appeal that Gu Jun Pyo had for so many. He was mean, and not mean in the good My Princess/Brilliant Legacy way, but just MEAN. And his clothes were ridiculous and DO NOT GET ME STARTED ON THAT HAIR.
To be fair…I thought Jihoo’s clothes and hair were silly too but he was sooooooo pretty and sweet and sadly in love that I didn’t care. I guess he got all my willingness to ignore the rules of good taste. And I really liked cranky grandpa doctor and flaming noodle shop chef and Kim Bum/Eun whatever were a pretty sweet little side story. I still listen to some of the songs but Almost Paradise is probably the worst thing I have ever heard and makes me think of Love Boat Theme, every single time.
True. It’s not every guy who’ll run to his Mom’s house for Pamprin and then come back and rub your tummy to help your cramps. That, ladies, is a real man.
Whoops! This thread just got confusing. My comment was in reference to Personal Taste….
oh ok, ’cause I was like..whoaaaa….I missed that scene in BOF, did Kim Bum do that? Jun Pyo did bandaids and I’ll admit that was kind of sweet and I DID like when he carried her away from the insane flour/rock/water mob….
but yes, loved when Lee Min Ho went to Mama’s to get the Pamprin, that was awesome. I hereby solemnly swear and declare that the first KDrama that has a man go out to buy tampons for his girl will be my favorite drama ever, even if the rest of it sucks donkey b…
you know what I mean.
@Joanne
Re: Gu Jun-pyo’s hair. Hahahaha…the Japanese comic of BOF also shows his Japanese counterpart with curly hair, so they definitely had to put that in the Korean version.
Also, I would have liked to see more from Yi-jung and Ga-eul. I thought they were cute.
See this is why I don’t like bringing up BOF… I knew it would generate that type of response. I admit that he was mean. I admit that I cringed at the bullying scenes. I admit that I hated Lee Min Ho’s hairstyle and clothes, pretty much without exception. I admit that the acting was not great and the story was mediocre.
That being said … Don’t know why I like BOF but I still do. And the BOF OST is still in my playing rotation. Irrational love for BOF … I know, I know… I am one sick puppy.
Oh, don’t get me wrong.
I LOVE Boys Over Flowers. That was my second K-Drama. I just hate Gu Jun Pyo.
I had second lead syndrome before I even knew there was a thing called ‘second lead’.
I watched that one and Goong all by myself (sobbing) I didn’t know about DramaBeans or any of YOU guys or anything at all…
I watched them both over the course of a week. Sigh. I had no idea what was going on or that there were others like me out there. I thought something was WRONG with me.
Then I found DB and read the recaps for BOF and I was all ‘whaaaaaaaat, people LIKED him?’ But what about…(breaking into sobs for Jihoo).
And then I found you guys, and now I know I’m not alone.
JoAnne@ – don’t you remember LMH going out to get tampax for her when she got her period at the fancy dance? She was hiding in the bathroom stall while he was at the pharmacy trying to hide what he was doing from the swooning teenage girls – and when they found out he was buying tampax for his GF, they were thrilled to see a brave guy doing that!
Oh, did you guys read Hana Yori Dango–the manga?
Somewhere in that epic 32 novel series, they give an explanation of why he is such a douche pit, actually. The drama doesn’t show it- but it’s a mix of psychological and privilege.
So basically, he comes from a messed up background with a scary mom and does whatever he wants and everyone just lets him do what have you. Except his sister (but she moves cuz of all the messed-upness) and then he meets Makino (whatever her name is in the korean drama) and he starts to change because she’s literally the only one that calls him out on his bullshiiiiit.
He’s not so bad deep down, he has his good moments–BUT he does have some kind of social disorder of some sort. You never know what it is, but it is there, I’m sure.
Also his hair is naturally curly hahaha-so it’s not his fault it’s awful. He tried to straighten it when Makino said she hated it but it just went back to being curly in protest.
I have nothing to say about his clothes though. O___O lol, Sorry.
Sorry for the late hit on this string – blame it on a busy night at the rescue squad.
@ Hillary – Never be afraid to proudly stand up and say “I like a show that everyone else think sucks!” Look at the discussion generated by my Personal Taste comment. hee
@ Shirin-noona – yes the PT couple was cutesy, but to me, it was the first show I saw where the female was a bit of a horndog and not some sweet “Glass Menagerie” lead.
@ JoAnne – yes, LMHot’s hair was little over the top in BOF; much like the manga (and the Japanese live action) I think it was to make him look a little unrealistic, to match his attitude. The Korean hair team should’ve made an Expository Hair Change as his attitude changed, but I’m guessing the fangirls would have nixed it.
And I absolutely hated what they did to Jihoo’s hair in the second half.
Wowww was this thread insane or what? 17 replies…
@Hillary,I only watched BOF because of Gu Jun pyu, even though he was possessive and mean and had questionable sense of fashion I was just drawn to him,so don’t worry you’re not the only one who liked him:p
@JoAnne,Goong was my first kdrama too,and since it was my first drama and I didn’t know the rules of kdramas till the end I had this hope that the second lead would get the girl…sigh…I can’t even begin to describe how broken-hearted I was…oh and I think Jihoo’s hair in BOF was worse than Jun pyo’s
@Cynthia:Yeah that kiss was great…
@ Shirin-noona: glad you liked my rave on TB and SY. I do think you should make a video of all the OB couples, they each had their charms and the men definitely grew in the process of the show (a lot of it because their female interests).
@ Kewbie: yeah, that scene in episode 5 (I think) is hilarious. I LOVED their fight in the editing room, it was soooo childish with hair pulling etc… and this is from grown ups who also happen to be professionals (but one could already see the sparks, I imagine?) and then they kissed in the noerabang and slept together. The morning after was HILARIOUS, when he was looking for his underwear (I think) and she is like: “what are you looking for, tell me, I will help you find it” and he’s like:” No, it’s OK, I am fine.” (and she was the one who threw his underwear behind the chair, I believe). Yeah, I would be terribly embarrassed too, if I were in that predicament
.
As I said, great chemistry and great acting. Both actors really nailed playing their characters. It’s interesting to know the SY actress got married last December (in real life) and that she had that much chemistry with her co-star. I was quite impressed.
@Kewbie: also, in the scene where Tae Bom explains how he got the name Cha Gom, both of the characters (literally) looked like they were 16 year-olds in love, with their smile and their gidiness. So cute and sweet and adorable
(I was like, “how do they do that?” Oh yeah, that’s why they are actors and I am not). Ok, I will stop here, for now…
They are cute! Although I read online that the actors preferred it when their characters were fighting. haha…still they are so sweet together. A testament to how good their acting is.
Shout out to Ivoire. Did you decide yet on your next job?
@ Kewbie: really? They like it better when their characters are fighting, why? Can I ask where you read it? That’s too bad, I really enjoy when they are being lovey dovey with each other (I mean, they are married, who wants to see married people with a baby on the way fight all the time? That doesn’t bode well for the baby, does it now?). Oh well, I am just happy they have great chemistry. They do really well together and seem to work well together and with the rest of the cast.
@Hillary: Thank you for the shout out
. It’s the first time I have ever gotten(sp?) one. I actually have an interview today at 3:00pm, Pacific (CA) time, so think of me if you happen to think of me (hope that makes sense). I am not out of the woods yet, job wise. I will let you and Shel’ know what happens. Thank you for asking and for caring.
@Ivoire: I know this isn’t your first shout out… maybe the first one from me. But have seen shout outs to you in past threads. Keep us in the loop about your job search. Good luck.
For me the best couple ever were Seo Jing In and Kang Hyun Su from Smile You. Once they got together you knew nothing on Earth was ever going to split them apart.
Phil,I haven’t seen smile you.I’ll check it out .Thanks for the suggestion!:)
I agree with Phil– I’m surprised no one else has spoken up for this couple. If you’re looking for a super-cute couple whose love you just know is going to last forever, it’s hard to beat the OTP from Smile, You. The drama itself had lots of mediocre parts (especially the extension– ugh!), but I loved it anyway because it was so full of touching moments and because it had one of the sweetest OTPs ever.
like the video. I love this couple. I stuck with the drama because of this couple.
You liked the video?Yay!
They were the only reason for me to stuck with the drama too.I felt so sad when Kim Jae-won had to drop out and Yoon Shi-yoon was cast.I thought he and Lee Jia had no chemistry and could never make a believable couple but then I saw the drama and they were perfect.I couldn’t imagine anyone else instead of Yoon shi-yoon…
The rooftop kiss from Shut Up Flower Boy Band (Sun Joon and Jo Bo Ah). Also, my favorite couple of all – Princess Man (Park Shi Hoo and Moon Chae Won)
You know I think I should make 2 videos ,one for HOT couples in which I can include all the hot kisses like the rooftop kiss and of course when Park Shi hoo kissed Moon Chae Won’s back in princess’ man ,and one for cute couples. Thanks for these suggestions.Any suggestions for cute couples?
I think there is a video on yt with hot k-drama kisses, but since SUFBB isn’t on there yet, you can make a new one! The one that’s on there already has Daniel Choi’s scarf kiss from High Kick Through the Roof, I think. I’ve also seen ones made with the Coca-cola kiss from Lie to Me, the bubble gum kiss from Brain and a few others which I can’t remember right now…I’m a sucker for good kisses, and kissERS.
Oh,then I should be super fast before somebody else makes a video of that kiss!Goes to make a video…!
Bubble gum kiss from Brain. Probably the most intense kiss I’ve ever seen on a Kdrama. Woooooo
What about
- Rain and Son Hye Gyo (Full House)
- Mickey Yoo Chan and Park Min Young (Sunkgyunkwan Scandal)
- Lee Seung Gi and Han Hyo Joo (Shining Inheritance/Brilliant Legacy)
- Kim Jae Won and Hwang Jung Eum (Can You Hear My Heart)
- Jang Geun Seuk and Park Shin Hye (You’re Beautiful)
- Kim Hyun Joon and Jung So Min (Playful Kiss)
and though this is from a movie, I loved
- Kim Rae Won and Moon Geun Young (My Little Bride)
I must admit that I often “continue” the stories of the couples mentioned above in my fantasies.
Great list Hillary. Thanks, but I think some of them would’ve ended up getting divorced had they been real. For example Rain & Son Hye Gyo or Kim Hyun Joon and Jung So Min.They were constantly fighting.I don’t know, maybe it’s me,but I wouldn’t want to be in a relationship where there is so much fighting and a little understanding…Kim Jae Won and Hwang Jung Eum in can you hear my heart, however, are the perfect example of perfect couple.I love them so very much.
Thanks again
Hmmm… have we all forgotten the EPIC kiss from ‘Goong’?
Now THAT was a kiss!
Goong…sigh.
My first drama. I cried BUCKETS over that boy.
My vote for hottest kiss isn’t a kiss. It’s the hand scene on the train early on, in Padam Padam.
Now I have to go and look up “Goong”.
And I LOVED the lake in the moonlight scene where he lifts her up out of the water, holding her and looking up into her face.
Romantic gold.
I looooved the kiss from Goong,Goong was my first kdrama as well, and I caught second lead syndrome the minute yoolgun was introduced! But the second time that I watched I liked the lead more.
I like Kang-chil and Ji-na from Padam Padam. They have kissed but some are not exactly kisses but lots of lip touching/rubbing…still hot, though. haha…
Yep, real kisses. Can’t stand the wide-eyed, surprise, lips locked tight, Koo Hye-seon kisses.
Happy Weekend, shirin-noona!
Despite what Leaf says ( :p ) I don’t think the real life party crashing will go as well, especially if you literally crash through things. But maybe party insinuation? It doesn’t sound as cool, but I bet you get to stay longer
Just a thought.
Nope, Party Crashing is definately the way to go
Hey cmrprindle!
Haha, you’re probably right.I shouldn’t crash parties, however,I’d welcome any Korean actor who crashes my party with open arms;))
Have a great weekend!
Yes, any Korean oppas who want to crash ANY party are all more than welcome!
We’d welcome most party crashers at our occasional parties, as long as they are fun, nice and not drunk. :0)
Hi shel
How are you feeling?I hope you’re better:)
I posted below….I think on JoAnne’s comment. But, I’m OK, not dying yet….its just taking longer to heal than we hoped.
SHE’LL!!! So good to see you! *hugs!!!!* I know I’ll read more abt how you’re doing further on, but I had to get the love in
Hi, cmr! Glad to see you on here, too!
Farp! Drat darn you autocorrect! Not she’ll, shel! One L, no apostrophe!
Ha!
Thanks for the video.
I mis that copuple, they were really cute together and you used Nagging that is one of the only two Korean songs from which I really know the lyrics
By the way, you know you can crash this party any time. Tho in OT everybody is welcome. So you’re not really crashing
Hi zgznoona
Glad you liked the video.I tried hundreds of songs to match the video and nagging was the only one that I liked. At first I wanted to use an English song and I tried Just the way you are by Bruno Mars, which was good but not exactly what I wanted,so then I tried all the Korean songs that I had and nagging was the one I liked best. However I have no idea what the lyrics mean.I hope it matches the video as well!
Have a great weekend!
The song is about a couple on the brink of breaking up, and complaining about each other but loving each other
I guess it was a good choice then:) Phew! Thanks zgznoona!
I actually learn the song to be part of a video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HLrKzuRBcPw
That was awesome, which one were you?;) You don’t have to say it:)
I appear only for 15 seconds , but it was fun anyways
KIM SUN AH! IN anything…for serious.
And…Park Shi-hoo…cause he defines the word chemistry. He would have chemistry with a rock…although I prefer moon chae won!
Fab video!
Park Shi-hoo is all my sister and I talk about lately.Seriously!Don’t worry he will definitely be in the video…
Hugs!
Shirin-noona…I already “MINE’d” him. Check out my blog if you don’t believe me!
:P:P But you can look.
Ya, he’s pretty awesome. I love taking screencaps and watching him grow through all of his dramas.
LOL I sure as heck didn’t want to usurp Leaf’s position as Number One, so I waited a bit…
Happy Friday, OTers! Did you all survive the Valentine’s Day onslaught with only a few bumps and scratches? I’m on another hit-and-run posting, but this time, of my own making because I’m heading down to Los Angeles shortly for some much needed R&R and to visit some friends I’ve sadly been blowing off for months now because of work constraints. I plan to do nothing except troll bookstores and hit a few noraebangs and stuff food in my face for three days straight – I hear a new restaurant opened where their specialty is Chuncheon gak dalbi, and I insisted that be my first meal when I arrive later today. Woo hoo!!
Anywho, great news on the Hottie Veggie Bachelor front that Episode 17 (that aired Wednesday night) received a whopping .849% AGB rating!! Weird that Episode 18 then only gathered a .381% rating, but I guess beggars can’t be choosers. If it could at least stay in the .500% range, I’ll still be happy – 6 episodes to go and My Precious JCW is angsting like there’s no tomorrow, so bring on the Brooding Shower Scene already, dammit!!
And White Christmas/Hottie Bachelor Kim Young Kwang has already been cast in his next production as the ‘first love’ to YoonA in that “Love Rain” drama coming out with KGS in March… which I find a little hard to believe since isn’t he like 187 cm (6’3”) or something? Awfully tall to be playing a teenager, I’m thinking.
Nothing else really on my Watch List, as BVS sucks up what little life I have outside of the office, but I’m reallyreallyreally looking forward to “Faith” being resurrected. I like it that I can actually call Choi Min Soo oppaaaaa! without a trace of embarrassment on my face. Hee!
Shuk sweetie! *waves* For Movie Night, I’ll just go with the general consensus — I never know where I’m going to be from day-to-day, so if ya call for one, I’ll make an effort to join in!
The Servo Mobile is gassed and ready to roll and the OST playlists are plugged into the iPod for listening, so I’m outta here. Have a great holiday weekend (where applicable) and I’ll check in when time allows. I promise to post the ‘food porn’ over on my Tumblr… Annyeong!
Don’t worry
The satisfaction of being first (ie the main achivement of my week) has run out so I’m gonna let someone else have that position and let them get the satisfaction instead
Anyway hope you had a good week!!!
The movie-noonas made me do it!!
I saw
That’s why I was very glad you got first!!
Don’t worry I wasn’t gonna try and beat you!!
That’s us! We’re the movie-noonas!
This noona is grateful for your hard work
The hard work was staying awake on my couch after a long night at the precinct. lol.
I set up my alarms to wake me about 15 mins after the hour and then it was the race between the limey teen and the yank ahjumma.
Luckily, old age and treachery beat out youth and skill! Then I took a nap.
Pfft… didn’t you read what I said? I let you win!!
I wasn’t even gonna try for first today but then I got bored and ending up refreshing and refreshing… and yeah… so I came second… so maybe next week I’ll be third!!
Did I really type ‘gak dalbi’? It’s DAK GALBI. Way too early in the morning to be literate, I guess…
Veggie Bachelor
My wife started watching this yesterday. I came in at Episode 3, so I’m having to go back and watch the first two. Looks good so far.
Happy Weekend, Cherkell! Enjoy your traveling, and especially the visiting!
Enjoy your weekend
KIm Young-kwan…yum….hi cherkelllll! I have to start my dose of veggies, but I always always think of you whenever anyone mentions it!
@ cherkell
Hey, my son is looking for a Norcal law internship next summer. Does Apple have a summer internship program? He’s a first year at BYU law.
THanks!!!
Hiya shel! *waves* How are ya feeling, sweetie?!? Things going better this week than last?
Sorry to report that Apple did away with their legal internship program back in 2006; the only internships offered now are in engineering and finance. What does he want to specialize in (eventually)? I can ask around to see which firms we contract with might be looking for summer help…
Is anyone else here loving the moon that embraces the sun’s ost?! I am in LOVE with Lyn’s song back in time!! Perfect!!
I love the background music in that. It really sets the right mood.
So am I
I meant I too, LOVE Lyn’s song (Back in Time) on the OST of the Moon That Embraces the Sun.
That song has already made the daily rotation of my playlist since this drama first came out.
So much to do. So little time. Trying to keep up on real life, anime, and kdrama
oh… what anime are you currently watching? Anything good?
Nisemonogatari just came out and the chapters I’ve been waiting on for a year and a half finally got animated in Naruto. It’s his Parent’s story and what happened for him to become an avatars.
Seriously I was crying watching Naruto last night lol.
Finishing up the Black Lagoon OVAs and thinking about rewatching Madoka Chan.
I still need to watch season 2 of From Me To You as well
Oh… Kimi ni Todoke!!!
Is the anime good? I’ve been meaning to watch that!
Loved Black Lagoon! The dark humor is topnotch!
TGIF.
I’m keeping my kdrama list quite short at the moment, because the To Be Watched queue is long enough that if I try for more than one at a time, I’ll never finish anything.
So I’m currently only watching: Bottom of the 9th with 2 Outs (aka 9 Ends, 2 Outs), which I was hesitant to start watching because I thought it was about baseball; thankfully, it’s not, and is actually the story of two best friends who insist they think of one another only in a platonic sense… until they’re forced to live together and to confront their growing attraction to each other. I’m really enjoying it and the forced proximity trope is pretty much my favourite, ever (and the show stars Lee Jung-jin and Su Ae – what’s not to like?).
I’ve also been watching High Kick 3 for quite a while now, and the storylines this past fortnight have been intriguing, to say the least. Firstly: regarding Ha-sun and Ji-seok and the thing that happened at long last? Thank. God. Their story makes me smile every week and, unless they die in a freaking car crash (*pointed glare*), theirs is the happy ending of which I feel most assured.
Secondly: Ji-won and Kye-sang. I love their relationship and admit I do still ‘ship them (though I love Ji-won and Jong-seok, too) and the way that their relationship has been – and continues to be – built throughout the series is interesting to me. If she were a few years older, or this a less family-oriented show, you’d swear they were the secondary romantic pairing. Ah well, whether it’s friendship or friendship-with-romantic-potential, I enjoy their every interaction.
Happy Friday, everyone.
I love 9E2Os….it made me a Su Ae fan and the guy helped me watch Plan B beyond my love of Rain
I have quite a a long list of dramas to watch after Bottom of the 9th, but Runaway might just jump ahead because of Lee Jung-jin…
I enjoyed 9E2O too, but sometimes I thought there was a little TOO much angsting going on. That show was best when the tone was lighter and more playful. And it totally turned me into a fan of Su Ae and Lee Jung Jin.
I’m only halfway through and thus far the angst has been minimal – unless you count the drama surrounding Nan-hee and Jung-joo’s relationship (which I don’t *g*).
If there’s angst between the main pairing in future eps, I… will buy ice cream. And a big spoon.
9E2O = LOOOOVE
It’s so classic and full of understated punch.
I know! I went into it a bit reluctantly, but as soon as Nan-hee and Hyung-tae were introduced, I was hooked (which, okay, was perhaps due to the fact that Lee Jung-jin is shown mostly naked, in bed, within the first fifteen minutes of the first episode).
Jules – naked = good. Great. FABULOUSSSS (Tim Gunn style)
I need to rewatch that. AFter I finish the rest of my 100 drama list.
Good morning/afternoon/evening/next day for time travelers Everyone!
I bring news from Shel, who may check in tomorrow when things settle down a bit. She is mending slowly and I think might be worried that our raucous (sp?) behavior might injure her with laughter!
This week was very difficult as my daughter lost a young friend in a particularly tragic and senseless way. Much sadness in my little town, and many questions. I have been looking forward to the giggles here, believe me.
I am in the homestretch with Ring Ring Bell and despite Deeno’s anger over the angst, I find that we move past those issues quickly and there’s PLENTY of screen time for our couple, who have sizzling chemistry. The show actually plays for laughs quite often between them, which I welcome.
I am just as much in love with SUFBB as everyone else is, and pray to God that in my next life I remember something, anything at all – and hold out for a high school Sung Joon of my own.
I am enjoying Operation Proposal, and managed to watch about half of an episode (raw) of 12 Men in a Year. Looks good, peeps.
Otherwise…suffering through Wookies sadness right along with him in the Veggie Biz, and considering starting WR just because I miss Sun Man so much.
On movie night – I’m good with consensus but will lobby HEAVILY for it being on a Friday or Saturday night.
Sorry to hear about your daughter’s friend!
Thank you. It’s been a shock to everyone. He had just turned 15 and to think of someone so young losing hope just…as a parent, it’s horrifying to think about. For the kids, they’re just so lost in sadness and questions.
So young
Hi JoAnne,
Sorry to hear about your daughter’s friend and the way it has impacted her and the whole town. That is really sad. Sending you *hugs* (that’s all I can think of at the moment), and I will be praying for you guys.
JoAnne, sorry for the kid and for your daughter.
. This kind of event makes you cherish life and grounds you in reality like nothing else…
If you want to laugh a bit ( including your daughter ), you should try the japanese drama Switch Girl ( a teenage version of Hotaru no Hikari, for those who know it ).
Mystisith~
Where can I find good subs for Switch Girl? I watched Episode 1 and found it hilarious, finding other English subbed episodes seems to be a problem.
Hello John,
I found ep 2 at asiancinamatic, aveoh.net and doramax264. J dramas are always slow for the subs, so we’ll have the rest progressively…
Correction. Subs at aveoh are wtf. Watch it only if you want to top the hilarious cake with unintended comic translation. My gosh, some people should be kept at bay from subbing if they don’t know a minimum of the language.
Mystisith,
Yeah, I saw that “sub” too.
Meanwhile, I’m reading the manga online. It’s funny too.
<— Adds manga reading to list of " things to do" .
Sorry about your daughter’s friend. My little cousin just lost one of her friends and it was really hard on her…
What horrible news. It should be a law of nature that kids don’t die before their parents do. So sad.
I agree. The poor parents! And all those people whose lives he had touched.
I’m so sorry for your daughter, JoAnne, and their friends and the family. It’s a tragedy at any age, but it really gets you when it’s someone so young. *HUGS*
As always, the OT will be happy to give you a slice of our collective joy. That’s why we keep it in cake form. Easier to pass along.
Happy Cake! (Not good with kimchi)
Bleh! Yeah, let’s keep the kimchi far from the cake…with many courses in between
I’m sorry about your daughter’s friend. I’ve had gone through that twice, at 16 and 18 and I did a lot of thinking trying to understand what happened and wondering If I was living to the fullest.
At about the moment he was ending his life, my daughter was angsting over what she should do: a, or b? Maybe even c? And was she becoming socially anxious? I lost my temper and told her to get a grip and do some growing up.
An hour later she comes downstairs sobbing to give me this news – and I have not heard her make a peep about her ‘problems’ since. All the kids are huddling together, and I think a lot of them are doing some real soul-searching. This is a very privileged town, and some of these kids live with luxury and options that I can’t even imagine myself, in my own comfortable life, and yet they all swear they’re miserable.
Maybe now they know the difference.
Hopefully they will. tho you know, all teens complain no matter how easy their life is
It really does throw life into clarity when tragedy strikes. There were a few poignant deaths in high school that rocked the entire community.
Suicidal depression can strike anyone, at any time, regardless of background or family circumstances.
I was suicidally depressed during my sophomore year at an Ivy League university, despite the obvious privilege inherent in that status, and despite my family’s rise to upper middle class status.
All I can say, I guess, is that feelings about life and self don’t go hand-in-hand with outside perceptions of richness and privilege.
That’s true, and I’m not insensitive to it. But sometimes a drama queen really is just a drama queen.
I agree… sometimes a drama queen is just a drama queen.
But at the same time, many depressed people act out in pretty dramatic ways, looking for understanding or help…
Agreed. It’s actually quite a difficult problem to tell the difference. I myself face a lifetime of wondering ‘is she being dramatic, or is she sinking again?’. Just the thought makes me tired…
Hi. I made it. Just got back from the doctor’s office. This has taken an unfortunate turn, but eventually it will all be fine. Just makes for a longer recovery. We were hoping to make a wedding out of state the middle of March and that’s not possible now. Not to mention, we’ll be broke when it’s all over and can’t afford to go anywhere anyway. Good thing we already live where most people wanna vacation. When I’m up to it, I’ll have hubby take me down to the beach and it’ll be great.
Upside? I’ve lost 20 lbs. I guess several days of broth and jello, the removal of a big water balloon and what hubby calls “the invalid diet” ie I can’t get up and graze the kitchen and only eat what someone brings me. However, I do NOT recommend this as a means of weight loss. I’m not noticing it so much cuz I live in my jammies, but they weigh me every time I go to the doctor, which this week has been daily.
My sister has been here helping the last several days, my daughter in law got here last night, so we have help until Tuesday when everyone leaves. Having company is also alleviating the sheer boredom of being stuck here. The laughing part is probably technically healthy, but can get kind of painful sometimes.
Lots of time for watching dramas, though, when I’m awake. This last week I finished Padam Padam ….LOVED it. I was so worried the ending would be ultra sad, but it was actually somewhat hopeful.
Caught up on Moon/Sun, and I’m mostly really liking it. I have some of the same issues that JB (or whoever is recapping it) does….I feel that it’s kind of stagnated a bit. I feel SO sorry for Jung IlWoo’s character, but I still want the king to figure out who Wol really is. Not sure what he would do about it, exactly.
Started Shut Up! Love love love it. Although the end of Ep 2 gave me quite a start. Rooftop kiss was AWESOME!
Still watching FF, still enjoying it. Last weeks eps were kind of slow, but this week is shaping up to be better.
Totally skipped the last 6 eps of ATK. Watched the last 10 mins of the last episode raw and decided it wasn’t worth it. Glad THAT’s over.
Still enjoying High Kick 3, too, although Dramafever is WAY behind.
Think I may start What’s Up? I downloaded it all, and while I”m convalescing I don’t feel bad about marathoning something and everyone’s been raving about it. I also have Bachelor’s Veggie store and Salaryman as far as they have them, so those are possibilities, also.
Hope you all have a lovely weekend, and to those in the states: enjoy your three-day weekend!
I’m glad you’re okay.I hope you’ll fully recover really very soon.
Fighting!
SHEL!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m sooooo glad to hear from you. Take your time healing. People rush through that process and it really worries me sometimes. and here are hugs…and I promise a few laughs. You should read me and Deeno’s joint padam recaps. We have 2 out. Third is coming as soon as I stop roving around OT…it’s pretty darn funny if I do say so myself.
START WU! You’ll never regret it. It’s so poignant. And full of everything you want in a good drama. It’s great to marathon too.
I wish you a speedy recovery!
Shel!
SO glad to hear it sounds like things are going to be okay!
Wishing you a speedy convalescence and a healthy future
Yeah, the US health care system needs a serious fix… I’ve had huge ER bills from my various uninsured times (I guess I can say this, since y’all know about my epilepsy)… and I wish things could change, somehow. Doesn’t seem likely in the current political climate, though.
Hi Sethe….wondered where/how you were! Thanks for the good wishes.
Unni- so sorry to hear about that boy. How’s your daughter doing? How’s you?
Shel- give her my loooooooove! Tell her I’ll record something for her! Bach? Brahms?
WR is slow to roll but it is strangely addicting.
RRB – So between you lovin’ and Deeno hatin’ I think imma have to watch. I hate shows that make lukewarm reactions but this one seems to trigger big ones!
I agree with Fri or Sat.
Raine – She’s ok, thank you. What I find is that she’s really good about being strong when others need her…it’s left to her own devices that she overthinks and creates issues for herself.
RRB – admit it. After I sent you that email, you knew you were going to watch it.
*hangs head* You know me well unni mine.
As for your daughter, having a role in a tragedy is quite helpful for coping. I have always been that ‘helper/pillar’ figure so when it’s time for me to let go, it really just comes right out. I hope your daughter has a similar experience. Plus she has you who loves her so.
BAch, Brahms, Mozart, Rachmaninoff, Gershwin, Beethoven…it’s all good.
LOVE cello music of any kind, actually.
Give me a bit of time to think and I’ll make you a post to help you get well:)
Anyone watching Glowing She ? That little drama (12 eps) is becoming one of my favorites. And it seems we will have some choco abs to eat ( to lick ? ) in next eps. Check this out :
http://www.hancinema.net/kim-hyeong-joon-s-triangular-shoulders-38848.html
I have just registered an account on mydramalist ( same name ), so if someone wants to : see you there.
Are subs out yet for RadioactiveChick?
For ep 3, yes. Patience, patience…
Funny thing is two weeks ago I found someone on youtube who has up to ep 4 Spanish Subtitles
I sometimes watch French subtitles cause those sometimes come out faster than English ones! The french speakers know how to enjoy their dramas!
I might be able to get by with either, and a dictionary….hmm.
@Raine: where do you watch Kdramas with French subs? I would like to do that as well. French subs on Viki don’t come out fast. Can you recommend another site? (sometimes they don’t finish the subs at all)
There are only 2 sites i use when nothing else works for english :
Mangagaru.net
nanhiko.over-blog.com
The french drama community is not well developed.
I would like to help them, but sadly i don’t have enough time, and i’m so used to eng subs than reading french on my screen feels bizarre.
I had never even heard about it!What’s it about? And has Kim Hyung-joon’s acting become better? He really was like a robot in BBF …
I think it’s the Kim Hyun(g)-joon(g) from SS501….
Yep. The worst : The have almost the same name, they DO look alike, but i’m happy to say this guy is actually good at acting, at least for comedy.
Oh,I didn’t know that!
Whoops.. meant to put ‘other’
They are actually both from SS501….just to make it more confusing. Kim Hyun Joong from BBF was the oldest in the SS501 group, Kim Hyung Jun was the youngest….he’s the one in Glowing She. Kim Hyung Jun actually had a cameo in BBF in the bluc scene where SS501 was performing. Can’t remember which ep. While KHJ was doing BBF and Park Jung Min from SS501 was doing a musical, the other three boys tours as a subgroup and they had a cameo on BBF.
Yeah, it’s Hyung Joon, not Hyun Joong. Both in SS501 though. Seriously, people. Think about the names when you make a group. I’m too old to keep this sh** straight for long.
lmao!!!!
I seriously rolled on the floor cackling when I read this, I don’t know why it was so funny to me, but you sound kinda drunk, and maybe I’m high on something so it was extra funny.
Not drunk. No. Working from home with two computers going. Sigh.
But I probably do sound like that when I’ve had a few.
Listen up people! There’s nothing wrong with a few nekkid boys running through a field rubbing vegetable oil on themselves! It happens! Every day!
I need a field. Where’s my drink, dammit?
I think you need your Rain fix.
LOL Definitely nothing wrong with that. By the way, if you see those boys, send them my way. My plans for tonight got cancelled
JoAnne – you give me some of the best visuals for my fiction…
[picturing Rickie (my guy) covered in oil, wearing Patrick Starr bathing trunks and running along a beach, slo-mo, theme from Chariots of Fire</I. in the background]
sunlight glinting off the sequins….
He says he runs in the evenings….
WHERE IS RICKY!!!!
RICKY OPPA! (pouting…..can’t wiggle right now, lol) WHERE THE HECK ARE YOU!?
LOLOL Unni – i need to get into some music too. We should start listening to a song a week too and talk about it! mooooosic…moooo. No wait, Kdramas like boars…there are at least 4 dramas I can think of that have boars in them…oink oink
Was your sister the one who ask about the boars/pigs and Kdramas?
Talking about music, I’m waiting for your WU masterpiece (not pressure intended) . I know you are super busy these days.
And there is actually no rush
Yes, it was my sister actually! I mentioned that there was one in PdPd and she was like they’re in EVERYTHING! Haha. You need to meet me and my sister together. You’ll be like…there are TWO of them.
I finished the bassline and the vocal line entirely. I’ll send you the midi when I finish and then record me singing with piano…and then arrange it for cello. It’s a process! But it’s fun. Thank you Unni for inspiring me.
The guy is the typical jerk : Show business star, arrogant and player. He gets hepatitis B thanks to a one night stand, and is stalked at the hospital by “her” : A desperate journalist who has to do the scoop. She gets infected too, but we don’t know yet how ( sharing food with him ? previous incident ? ). She proposes to declare herself as his patient zero, in exchange of an interview. This is where we are at this point.
Good afternoon, all!
I’ve been attempting to watch Glowing She – but the eng subs stopped after ep 2. What’s up with that?! It’s aggravating to find a rom/com that I really think is going to be especially good and then can’t continue with. Anyone find it subbed anywhere?
Also, am really enjoying Wild Romance – it’s taken a turn into left field in these last 2 eps. All the original stalker/eye poker-outer suspects have now all gone nuts. Auntie, Wifey and BFF have gone psychotic. It’s either writing gone insane or just genius to twist the plot.
One thing I really love about the OTC here is that no matter how angsty the plot gets, all they have to do is laugh about something together with those manic laughs and I fall in love all over again with this pairing.
The only negative note in WR is the use of Jessica from SNSD (unless the character is supposed to consist of expressionless, catatonic acting interspersed with small explosions of cringing aegyo spasms. Even the cats look suitably horrified. Jessica has this dead-eyed zombie stare that’s not to be believed.)
“Even the cats look suitably horrified.” lmbo.
I seriously wanted that feral cat to lay down the law. I guess it took one look at her dead eyes and gave up on life.
I’m starting to believe the writing is genius. No matter how frustrating it becomes, I’m still on the edge of my seat and still waiting for the next episode. Now if I still feel this way by episode 16 with no resolution in sight, then I might feel a little stabby, but as of now…it’s all good.
I totally agree with your comments about Jessica. To say that I look at other things when she is on (especially just by herself) is not an understatement.
I would have been okay if Jong-hee/Jessica turned out to be the WR stalker.
“It’s either writing gone insane or just genius to twist the plot.”—> That is exactly what I was thinking after watching ep 14. I’m just waiting for Jong-hee to come out now and say “haha, i”m in on it too!” I love WR! It’s got its crappy episodes, but it always comes back around.
That’s what I was thinking – how did it go this way!! I welcome the turn of events, so I’d go for ‘genius twist’.
I loved all the episodes except for a bit of gripe that ex-love stayed too long.
There were many moments that deserve much praise and it is a pity they don’t do well in ratings, to me it’s a great rom-com with a bit of meat! and I want to see Eun Jae roll her eyes again…
I cannot believe that we are on episode 14 and the main OTP has not even had their first kiss.
I really wanna watch Glowing She too. I was interested when I first saw news of it but I don’t see any subs anywhere.
*sniffle sniffle* )’:
I’ve vaulted all the current episodes of LightUp Girl like a cask of amontillado, just waiting for softsubs to show up. I’ll delete the file sight unseen if none show up, so as not to again be sucked into a series without subs.
Canxi@
Kimchidrama.net has the first 3 eps up.
I think the subs are resuming – #3 is new.
Oooh, I seee.
I mean I thought it would be more popular since a member of SS501 is in it, but I guess not? Is no one paying attention to the OTHER KHJ. The Shadow-KHJ perhaps? That’s a shame, he’s a cutie.
Thanks Cynthia! I’ll make sure to stalk kimchidrama for subs. 12 episodes right?
It is a nice one indeed. Every drama whithout a withering-flower-heroine indulging in noble idiocy is at least worth trying. There is the ever present element of a liver condition, but it is used in a really intelligent way.
I do find myself fast-forward this and that moment, but hey, I do care to watch next episodes as soon as they’re subbed. I want to know what happens next
I was going to write that there are dozens of actors and other people capable of playing Kim Hyung Joon’s part, but then I clicked at the link, and decided he actually is OK
lol ! Saw something you like ? I’m sure someone else could have done the part, but the contrast between cute hedgehog face / womanizer attitude / killer body / hospital pajamas is a blast for me.
Yeah, just when I promised myself I won’t be blinded by abs/cheekbones/eyebrows or any other anatomical detail…(hopeless fight against the inner little pervert in me)
It’s just that my strong will is a bit weak at the moment. But on the bright side, I was able to reduce the amount of chocolate I eat.
You know…that’s about the best diet. Less chocolate, more abs-viewing.
Hmmm…..wonder how that would work?. The CHocoAbs Instead of Chocolate Diet…..
I tend to eat chocolate while watching chcoc-abs, so maybe for me not-so-much….
:0)
I muscle my own abs laughing like crazy when i watch yummy dramas which show abs that have been obtained by pain and sweat. Does it make sense ?
Hi everyone, Happy Friday! Congratulations on your results Leaf
! I got mine this week as well and know how nerve racking it can be waiting for them. Happy Birthday aoiaheen! Hope everyone had a good week!
Thanks!! Hope you did well!!!
And have a good week!!!
Thanks NKB
NKB!!! *Waves* I dont know if we’ve met before. I’m sorta in and out of OT because I’m a musician and my schedule changes from week to week. The past month I’ve been a bad OTer. *sob**shame*
But HIIII
Hi!!! Replying the day after you wrote this so not sure if you will see this (typical me). Oooh a musician!? Why am I imagining a female version of SUFBB Byung Hee right now?? LOL
*laughs hard then runs off so as not to pee on herself*
Bwahahaha!
I haven’t seen it yet…but I’m about to start just to get this reference!
I check OT every few days!
I’m a cellist and a singer. I play classical and in an indie americana rock band. Zgznoona has heard me play! I didn’t get to sing that day tho…:( Haha.
SUFBB…here I come.
Hi there everybody.
So happy to be able to get her early in the piece.
You guys make me smile.
I want to share 2 stories:
Last year I was meeting an acquaintance who was in town for a while to go for a bike ride. She arrived and was doing something to her bike so I took in the view. And there in front of me jogging towards me was a guy with a big smile who looked like a judo athlete. He totally looked like Jung Kyeo-woon from Dr Champ (now in History of the Salaryman) but before I could take a REALLY good look he’d jogged off (in the opposite direction to which we were going). I wanted to see more of this guy but unfortunately it was a no-can do and I’ve thought about off and on about him -Was he? Wasn’t he?) ever since. And then, yesterday, as I was on my way home I ended up walking behind 2 guys in the arcade. They were cute (-not young cute, but cute cute) and I thought one looked sort-of familiar but then we came to an intersection and I had to turn right while they kept going straight. Then I realized the sort-of familiar guy looked like this guy from a Taiwanese Drama and I thought I’ve got to check this out and I went back and tried to catch up to them so I could listen to their maybe Taiwanese accents but they had gone.
Basically these stories have become my 2 maybe-claim-to-drama-fame stories.
Wonder if anyone of the Beamers have actually met a KDrama actor in the flesh.
If so please let us know.
P.S. I’m off to bed now but I’ll catch you all later in the morning when I wake up with my coffee:)
Oops! I meant to write ‘get herE early in the piece’.
Meet a K drama actor for real?
Of course!! You didn’t think that Kim Bum being my boyfriend was just virtual? ^shakes head in disappointment^
Leaf- I just KNEW you would say that. I read this and I KNEW you would write.
Kdrama Fan – I will meet PSH one day…you just wait! The only ‘famous’ people I’ve met are Jon Secada (TODAY actually), Tracey Ulman, Nester Torres, and a bunch of clssical people. If you’re familiar with them that would be: The Borromeo String Quartet, the Miro String Quartet, the Emerson String Quartet, Leila Josefowitz, George Ricci, Ruggiero Ricci…um…ya a lot more. In the Classical world its a tad easier…
How could I resist?
You can’t. That’s why you are the most awesome Leaf.
Raine, that’s an impressive list!
Good one Leaf. You crack me up:)
Glad to hear it!!
You walked away from Jung Kyeo-woon?!!!!???!! Does not compute!
Maybe it was him. There could be some hunky Japanese guy that looks like him in the city. And I was working otherwise I’d have totally found out:)
Totally caught up in Linsanity! Anybody with me?
…and that’s all I can say as I rush off to the airport.
Definitely lots of talk about him in the hallways and at the water cooler!
his college team came to play at my college a few years ago – he’s awesome! my friends are slightly annoyed at him because he’s like the perfect Asian kid, lol.
He did a pretty funny video on YT with Ryan Higa (from NigaHiga) on how he got into Harvard. I appreciate that he can laugh at himself and the Asian-as-smart-person stereotype.
really? ryan higa is hit or miss for me, but i’ll watch this on your recommendation
Linsnity! OMG it’s so funny. My BFF is ABC too and everyone is like, aren’t you PROUD? REPRESENT! And then of course watching the man on the court is so fantastic. This is why basketball is my favorite sport.
Plus, he’s kinda hot. But I’m also known as a Rice Queen around here…
That said…go HEAT!
OH! I remember what I wanted to tell you all!
Listen…for those of you who gave up on Dream High 2 in the first 2 or 3 episodes…you might want to reconsider.
The acting has gotten better, the music is becoming integral to the plot, and the storyline is actually quite interesting. As someone said the other day:
Shit just got GOOD.
The conflict is real, and has validity on both sides. The interactions between the Idol kids and the school kids have meat to them, and the lines of loyalty are actually very interesting because they aren’t always what you’d expect them to be.
Hmmm… now this is odd.
On the old OT people said it got better…
however Javabeans said on twitter that this week was even worse…
funny – I thought Episode 6 really made a huge leap forward! I often agree with her although she is much more critical than I, being more experienced. On this one, I suppose we will just have to be in opposite camps.
Was it ep 6? Maybe she meant ep 5 then…
Nope – I agree with you. I’m wondering if public (negative) opinion has turned the tide here and forcing DH2 back on track (or finding a track!) for making some sense. And, are the lovelines switching? Sure feels like it.
I don’t think that will be permanent but it will keep us going for a while.
And are you LOVING Nana and the curly headed guitar maestro with the sweet voice?
Well, I have to agree with you, since this week for the first time I saw my self caring for the characters. Last weeks it took a lot of me to watched the ep 3&4, but this week I finally came around.
Though I’m still skeptical about the whole drama.
I saw JB said it got worse, but guys, JoAnne unni has NEVER steered me wrong. So…damn you! I have ANOTHER thing to put on my plate….unni. You’re fired.
you love me, come on.
…ya…
I find some things got better but it’s still weak. I’m beginning to hate the female lead : Can’t sing, dumb like the other girl in What’s up ? ( i hate those stupid characters ), and she puts everyone in trouble. Plus she’s a coward. Don’t get why our cute male lead falls for her. JB can be watchable when he smiles and relaxes : He should just loosen up and act like if he was the character.
I’ve done a lot of thinking about her, too. I wasn’t really thinking about her behavior beyond the one shocking thing she did – but all the other kids reactions to the various little things and personality traits have made me consider her more critically.
To me, she is becoming one of the more interesting plot points as her weaknesses become more apparent. This came up in DH as well – is it more kind to tell someone up front that they suck and let them look for another interest, or is it the job of teachers to help bring them along, no matter what? But it’s the kids who are interesting in their handling of this, because they need her to know that sorry doesn’t always cut it, that her lack of talent will have a negative affect on them, that she shouldn’t expect that really wanting something will automatically mean you get it – because they really want it, too, and they have talent. And the idol girl she’s pitted against has that struggle too, in a sense, because she’s not as talented as the others in her group.
Anyway..I want to see what happens with her. Does she suddenly bust out with some ability because the boys manage to get some things through to her? Does she make a switch a la Chae Young? I’m curious. I liked her but thought she was kind of hapless – I may not end up liking her, or at least may end up being irritated by her – but I do want to know what happens.
Girl…I was about to come in and say the same thing. Dream High II is getting really good. I’m glad I didn’t give up (shout out to Jinwoon’s smile for keeping me captivated). Hate that Raina chick and was bawling for Kang Sora. Is bullying really that horrible in Korea? Now they’re messing with my OTP’s. Good stuff.
Oh..and I just love how they were dancing for Cola in the chicken shack. Made me giggle because everyone in my family dances for food. LOL.
I like Jinwoon’s chicken beak nose, too.
Episode 6 was much better then the last couple of episodes. They must have stepped up after hearing so much bad reviews from netizens? Who knows but as long as they keep the pace and acting going like this, DH2 will actually be “not bad but good”. LOL Just have to wait and see!
Well, I may check out the last 2 episodes as I stopped in the middle of the 2nd episode. We will see. The problem is that there are so many other interesting dramas that I am currently watching and I don’t have the time as is.
Yes! I was going to say that
It just got so much better, the story is not all over the place anymore.
here to represent the dh2 survivor group!! lol.
i wish we could get a full audio of when hae sung sings hello to myself. i liked her version. the wonder girls one is good, but… there was something about hers that i really liked. it’s like, gasp! she can actually sing! she just gets nervous i guess.
“dh2 survivor group” Haha…I love this!
Joanne i totally agree with you…
seriously… it got alot better -_-
There are no more random performances..if not, not as many.
Im glad they’re finally focusing on the relationships and stuff — setting up the love rivalry..
But, i mean.. im not going to invest in this drama or have high hopes.. But in terms of my lack of interest, they finally have something i care about..
I understand you – for me it’s not like What’s Up or Shut Up (which I even watch raw, then read re-cap, then wait impatiently for subs, then REWATCH with subs, then go back and replay favorite bits) or Padam or FBRS, which I read recaps and waited impatiently for subs and thought about watching raw)…this is not insanity, it’s more comfortable. I’ll watch it, but maybe not even the day it’s subbed, maybe the next day. And then after I realize I enjoyed each episode more than the last, and if they keep on in this direction…I will end up with as much fondness for the little brother as I did for the big. It just won’t be as quick to develop.
Happy Weekend, DBers!
I checked last week’s OT and the thread is insane.
Most number of comments for OT, is it? The movie viewing seems like a blast. Looks fun, I’m hoping to join this weekend.
Anyway, it’s nighttime here and I can’t sleep after munching on choco bars and guzzling choco drink. I think this calls for a drama marathon.
Happy OT!
Hah,that’s funny cause every time I can’t sleep I drink chocolate milk and I sleep like a log afterwards!:D
Wish choco gives me that same effect. Oh but no, I should be tired from work and sleepy, but I’m excited – over nothing.
ooh just reminded me that I still have some Dove dark chocolates left over from Mr. Destiny…[pattering back to the ktichen].
Giving me ideas. Bad ideas.
hmmmm how is this just coincidence? I started craving chocolate a couple weeks ago and started on my second bag on Dove dark chocolates today… now I want some more…
[Looks behind] Is my butt getting bigger?!!!
if you can’t see it without looking behind yourself…
it’s not too big.
^sigh^ I wish I could eat chocolate…
but then again I had a chocolate bar the other day and it made me feel really really sick and I wanted to throw up… so maybe it’s best I don’t… not until I’ve lost some more weight!
I wish I had your will to lose weight!
It’s been a ongoing battle for about 2 years now…
The main problem is I’m not overweight or anything (just slightly chubby sometimes) so I then tell myself I’m being stupid and should just eat whatever I want ^sigh^
But recently I go to the gym for around 2 hours every day and have cut back on basically everything… so maybe this time it will actually work!!
But yeah… losing weight is a nightmare…
Re: Weight loss
Have you considered yoga ? Relaxing, builds strength and tones your body too.
Yeah I did that for quite a while actually… should start again soon…
Try pole dancing.
Happy.
Ha… lots of girls at my old school used to do that….
Don’t think I’ll be trying soon…
When you choose exercise, make sure you throw in stuff you like! For example, for me just going to the gym all the time makes me feel like I’m taking medicine or something, so I try to switch it up by going to the group fitness classes, playing a pick up game of soccer every once in a while, dance, etc. That way I’m not bored and I’m having fun moving around!
Good luck on your goal!
@Leaf
What the hell did you attend? A school for strippers?
Good luck! I’m sure you’ll do fine.
I’m a procrastinator when it comes to exercising! LOL
(sigh) I’m suppose to be going to the gym at least twice a week. Been lazy and for the last couple of months, I’ve only gone once a week. My friend who also goes to the gym kept badging me about wasting money to pay for the gym if I wasn’t going to go. I know…I know… Imma procrastinator. No motivation.
@JoAnne
Ha… basically… it’s a tragic fact in almost all schools…
But you know, I’ll be like that too once I’ve lost a little weight heh…
Re: group fitness classes
Another excellent suggestion, aerobics classes can be fun.
u could try swimming, I heard it was the best. You get both your aerobics and weight loss training in and have fun at the same time! That is of course if you like to swim…
I’m in the same boat re: weight loss, although it sounds like you’re doing better than I am. I need your dedication to go to the gym! Good luck with everything!
oi samsoon!
Well, I believe there is no point if you get fixated too much on the weight. Just find the right feeling to your body (as you wrote, you’re not even overweight).
For me it was when I took up jogging after being idle for abt 2 years. I didn’t lose much weight if any but I did feel lighter, fresher and had more energy. The point is – whatever you decide to do – do it for YOURSELF and not to satisfy some stupid ideas of a perfect body. Good luck!
And now we have lots and lots of snow so it is the time to do some cross-country skiing. My silly idea is to wear light clothing and thus use more energy on keeping the right temperature. Lazy me, lazy me…
Hwaiting! on the weight loss!
I hope u achieve ur ideal weight soon so u can enjoy the foods u want again. In moderation, of course.
OMG I’m changing my diet to lose weight too and I’ve been good…but Icaved today and had a coke…(my weakness). But milk makes me really sick so I avoid it or drink lactose free.
But I got a Korean cookbook for my birthday so for movie night I’m gonna make Korean food and watch!!!!!! I can share the recipe I’m using!
FIGHTING!!!
Good luck everyone!!!
And yay!! Korean food!! I have a recipe book too but not enough cooking stuff here at Uni
Anyway tell us how it goes!!
Good deal, Raine! Tell us all about it! You know I like to talk about food experiments.
Now can you imagine if we decide to do a drama marathon and post comments in OT. Bet you we will break current record (and probably put it out of reach for a while).
I think, my fellow Joanne, that you are brilliant.
Consider this possibility, although sadly it would take us away from the OT.
Maybe there could be another thread each week, if JB and GF would consider? First post lists movie, time, places to find it online. (That doesn’t have to be them, it could be one of us. I don’t want them to have to do any work beyond opening thread…but if it costs, then I don’t even want to ask that and would think of something else. Or if it takes more than a minute to do, I wouldn’t feel right asking, either.
Then whoever wants just joins in at the appropriate time. OMG…imagine if we did marathon a drama over a weekend or something…
Unni- you’re nuts. NO, really. But, you’re brilliant. We can do marathon weekend like once a month or 2 months. Or marathon week.
Maybe you can email them with a proposal and we can sign or something!
The thing is, I use my weekends to marathon dramas anyway. So, doing it with people who actually like to watch them would be awesome.
weren’t we talking last week about the possibility of using some kind of chat room, to avoid any inconvenience for OT and DB?
I’m totally in for marathon weeked
MOVIE NIGHT IDEAS
Well, here’s my idea. WordPress/blogspot and all those host free sites.
All we have to do is start one and we can put all the show information at the top of each post and all the abbreviations we want to use and use a new post for each movie and provide streaming sites and times and updates for all the new stuff.
and with those sites you can add different admins so we can share work and stuff.
What do you guys think?
That would be awesome! Like a regular, virtual sleep over.
(are DBers starting a new trend or what? Someone make a record of this so the world would know where it started.)
Fun!
I just hope JB & GF don’t mind that we’re camping out in OT with this.
Do you think iTunes will ever get the Shut Up FBB OST? The links to download the two songs by LMK are down already. I HAVE to have them!
Are you talking about “Not in Love” and “Jaywalking”? I think Not in Love is the only LMK song.
Alice Chen might know. She’s a genius with OSTs
definitely, ask Alice Chen
while napping this week I had a reoccurring dream about a half clothed young man I can’t place! It’s driving me crazy because I keep thinking it’s marco, but marco isn’t as attractive as he is! I know he’s someone I saw in a drama recently so I can figure it out after going through my recently watched list. I hope you all had a great drama week! I did for the most part except waiting for fermentation family.
“while napping this week I had a reoccurring dream about a half clothed young man”
Which half?
[snerk]
LOL
Why I didn’t think about that. I’m rolling on the floor laughing
Zgznoona….but you still haven’t answered the question.
You should ask bunny that is the one who dreamed it
OMG these threads…I get so confused once we get 10 or 12 layers in!!
Bunny Love! Which half was clothed?
ai yi yi! you ladies!
half clothed fortunately refers to the top half. These naps were in the cafeteria and while the area is with the couches is pretty secluded I would’ve been very embarrassed for this young man if he jumping up and down without pants. I figured out who it is by the way- mr. veggie batchelor himself with sageuk hair. I am very susceptible to the influence of pain medication.
Pain meds? I hope you are feeling better…but at least you had the consolation of Baek Dong Soo. I mean really…it does not get much better than that. Especially since, you know…the chest was involved.
We could just call him The Chest…but I actually vote him for best smile in KDramaverse. He lights up the room.
My ears were burning… was someone talking about My Precious and his Absworthy Hotness? Was veggie oil, a halo of light around him, and a shower involved? Oh wait… that’s MY DREAM we’re talking about…
Happy Friday! This is my first time commenting on the OT but I’ve been Dramabeans for more than a year now.
I’ve recently finished FBRS. It’s so cute and fun-loving. I’m currently watching the Taiwanese version of Skip Beat. I love the manga, but as always with Taiwanese dramas, the acting is super exaggerated and the lead actress can only act cute.
What drama should I watch next?
Hi Cinderedna
I’m a newbie here as well, everyone is so nice in here.
Shut up flower boy band is awesome.
Hey!
I’m debating whether I should watch that. Some people really like it, but I’ve heard many complain about it too, especially the romance part.
Have you watched The Moon That Embraces the Sun?
No I haven’t started it yet.I’m kind of waiting for it to finish so that I can marathon it…but every one says it’s great.
I have watched both Shut Up Flower Boy Band and Moon That Embraces the Sun. I actually stream both live as I am totally in love with those stories. Highly recommend them.
I haven’t actually seen any negative comments about Shut Up Flower Boy Band (and I thought I frequent a lot of sites).
There have been complaints about MoonSun (with respect to Han Ga In’s acting … which I think are overdone … and the pacing) but I still love that show. The Cadence blog recaps MoonSun within 30 minutes of show’s air time, so a lot of us live stream show on iOnAirTV (which has English captioning) while camping on her blog until she provides the recaps.
Hmm, maybe I’ll try Shut up Flower Boy Band then. I think most of the comments I read asked for a plotline more focused on the relationship between band members (bromance!) rather than the relationship with Su ah? I’m not sure. Haven’t started it yet, but definitely looking forward to it!
Thing about it. The main OTP for Shut Up Flower Boy Band had their first kiss at episode 6.
I am still waiting for the kiss between the main OTP for Wild Romance and we just finished episode 14 out of a 16 episode drama.
The bromance is great too but I don’t watch it from bromance … I want romance … with a capital R.
I meant “Think about it.” This is where my typing is faster than my thought processes… LOL.
Hi Cinderedna, welcome in Drama Heaven !
From what i saw on your page, it seems you watched Secret Garden. If yes, and if you liked it, maybe we have the same tastes.
To be able to give you matching suggestions, please precise :
genre,
favorite topic tropes,
actor / actresses name
airing or completed.
Or are you willing to trust me and try something random ??
Haha, yes, SG is my favorite Korean drama of all time. I’ve been watching Kdramas off and on for a very long time, and SG is definitely and will always be my favorite.
I love gender bending. It just sets up the stage for so much quirkiness. I’ve tried watching Who Are You, but I’ve never finished it.
I’m looking forward to watching one that recently finished airing and is entirely subbed. Ughh, hate waiting for episode updates. That’s what I’m stuck with for Skip Beat… it’s updated once a week.
SG is my number one favorite so far! Scary..er…*Great* minds think alike…
Do i look scary on the net ? I had no idea… ‘ false drama tears falling down ‘.
Great minds speaking of DB’rs is an obvious statement.
Nothing can beat Kim Joo Won and his blackmailing :
- If you don’t stop struggling, i will squeeze you even more.
- If you don’t take your shower with me, i don’t do the audition.
Add the ” Yah ! ” of exasperation to complete the picture. Ways of being a romantic jerk.
Have you seen the J dorama I.S ( for Intersexual ). Not a comedy, but not depressive either. I give you a link to check :
)
http://www.mysoju.com/japanese-drama/is/
You also have the TW Boy and Girl ( a lot of other titles ) :
http://www.viki.com/channels/1631-girl-in-boys-dorm
I’m also having fun these days with the TW Magicians of love ( ep 10 on 22 ) : It’s cheesy as hell, but a lot of eye candy and funny stuff ( and just a bit of cross dressing
http://8dimentions.com/the-magicians-of-love-episode-01/
I looked at Magicians, but the description didn’t catch my eye. If you like it, I’l try it out.
Haven’t seen any info on the other two before.
Welcome Cinderedna
What Kind of dramas do you like? SUFBB is ok, but in my opinion, too melo.
I tend to like rom-coms better. Any ways with out knowing what you’ve seen and you preferences it hard to recommend anything
Someone suggested the J-drama Lucky Seven to me. I just started watching it myself. Seems pretty decent so far. BTW I loved FBRS!
Happy Friday to you! I loved FBRS. I finished it in 2 days. So so so cute.
I don’t know what you like but I started History of the Salaryman this week and it is HYSTERICAL. I was laughing so loudly that the people in my office were looking at me like I’m crazy.
I’m going to start Skip Beat this week. I’ve heard mixed things about it, but I’m going in with an open mind.
I tried watching Skip Beat. I loved the actress in another drama (Black and White). She was so kickass. And seeing her act like most of the actresses in a rom-com idol Taiwan drama is just so annoying – I wonder if the post-productions of these dramas runs the actresses’s voices through some machine to make them sound all squeaky and whisper-y.
Watch Fermentation Family for a breath of fresh air and there’s food porn. I haven’t watched this week’s episodes yet but it was still going strong at episode 20 (out of 24, i believe). Usually dramas drop the ball at this point in the storytelling.
That’s so true. I think Taiwanese dramas just like exaggeration and ditziness. This version of Skip Beat really reminds me of the Taiwanese version of Hana Kimi. Both mangas are way better.
Drama watching:
-Shut Up Flower Boy Band (-: They are subbing it so quickly, I’m very pleased! And it’s so good. The leader rocks, I like Sun-ah, and all the bromance. And Do-il is so pretty to look at.
-Wild Romance Still waiting for this week’s subs but I did watch the Manager/Dong-ah scenes raw already. The only complaints I have is that those two NEED MORE AIRTIME. Just love them loads.
-Finished What’s Up. I probably skipped an episode or two), the ending was sad and I would have liked more closure on some things, especially Hades’s situation, but generally I was content. Not top of the tops, but definitely one of the best musical dramas. I would probably rate it even higher than Dream High, just because the writing was consistently good, while in DH some episodes felt uneven. (BUT I still love Sam-dong’s character more than anyone else’s between the two dramas.)
Saving up all other drama viewing (Padam Padam, Lucky 7, Moon Embraces the Sun, Seinaru Kaibutsutachi, etc.) for later.
I went to the cinema loads this week though & saw:
-The Artist, which was enjoyable (will have a review up soon)
-ぐるりのこと (Gururi no Koto/All Around Us), which I enjoyed even more (and it wasn’t as heartwrenching as I though it would be, in fact, overall it gave you that feeling of ‘there’s a light at the end of the tunnel’)
and
-ネムリユスリカ (Nemuri Yusurika/Sleep) which was expectedly heartwrenching and bleak but one of those films that I think do need to be made (will review those two soon as well). Great Q&A with the director too – felt very lucky too, as this was probably the film’s only screening in the UK.
Wishing I had more time & money to see more of the J films that were being screened in London this week though.
My best news of the week: got tickets for 5 (!) films at East Winds, the East Asian film festival in Coventry in two weeks!
Final note: watching the Korean Treeless Mountain tonight, which – everyone in the UK take note – is available on BBC iplayer until 19th Feb!
Happy Friday! Happy OT!
I like Lucky 7, waiting for Ep 5 subbing. Waiting for Viki to finish subbing Eps 13 & 14 of Moon/Sun
Glad to hear you are liking Lucky 7, not too many people here seem to be watching it.
I’ve got Lucky 7 and Hungry queued, just trying to find the time.
oh i looooove hungy! got me hooked to japanese dramas again… and lucky 7 is just… i mean… half nekkid eita…. and man has he ‘grown up’ … that is compared to matsujun who still looks like a baby 8 at least to me) but as said before… i don’t mind them looking like 5yearolds ^^ ok now that sounded wrong…
Hungry is actually pretty good so far. I haven’t seen Lucky 7. I may give it a try later on. What’s the plotline?
Detective procedural, with seven detectives.
Time, time… yeah my problem too. What’s Hungry about?
I think I might wait until it’s finished it’s run to watch Lucky 7. Already watching too many currently airing dramas. Is it taking a while for the subs to come through?
I’m watching both and enjoying them
alua, you can find WR subs on viki pretty fast. They usually have them in less than 12h from the airing
No Viki outside the US…
sucks
You can watch some of the viki channels outside the States, but not all. Also some channels are not available in the States. I really hate those licensing problems
I can’t really complain… it is being subbed rather quickly elsewhere too. I don’t mind waiting a couple of days, I fully appreciate the subbers.
Yay it’s great to know I’m not the only one hooked on dong- ah and manager kim! I actually fast forward to watch their scenes first before viewing the episode in its entirety.
They’re the only reason I’m still watching WR.
happy OT hope Oters had good week.
please wellcome me, new here…
nice to meet you all.
Welcome fairycutter!
I’m kinda new here as well, had my first comment 2 weeks ago.
Have a good weekend!
thank you… nice to know fellow newbie.
i bet you’re not new to dramabeans right?
No,I’ve been lurking around here for over a year, just never had the courage to speak!
I know what you mean. There are established commenters here that already seem to be cyber-buddies and I kinda don’t want to rock the boat by doing something weird like posting first in the Open Thread! I like reading everyone’s comments and I just want to keep it happy and light. You’ve been around here longer than me, though. I’ve been here like 3-ish weeks, maybe. I think you might have a better chance than me, since you’ve been lurking for a year. I just write/react to whatever and hope that no one hates what I have to say! Anyway, Happy Friday!
@kewbie I understand your fear, but you don’t have to be afraid. We’ve been all there, at one time or another. The first time a dare to talk in OT was back in June and I felt the same way you do now.
Open up and you’ll see we are all very understanding and supportive of each other.
@zgznoona
I’m glad to know that everyone comes to Dramabeans not only to read the great commentary on k-drama stuff, but also for the cyber-camraderie. Happy to be here.
Yes, yes, I see that now.
Oops I meant camaraderie — I really need to edit my stuff!
Welcome here fairycutter !
Is there a special story attached to your name ?
Anyway, enjoy the time and place ! I presume you’re interested in dramas… So, what are you watching currently ?
Welcome fairycutter!
I’m also curious about your name!
Welcome!!! nice to meet you too!
Welcome! I’m about two weeks new as well. What are you watching right now, Fairycutter?
Cruelsummer,we have the same OT age!:))
OT Twins!
Now my Friday’s are filled with refreshing and commenting. Not sure if that’s a good or bad thing yet, but I guess the most important part is that I really don’t care. Everyone here is so smart, nice and fun.
Well,it’s not like that we do this everyday,it’s only Fridays and it’s so much fun,so I’d say it’s a good thing!OT is like rehab for kdrama addicts, except that it’s for encouraging it not quitting it!:-))
thanks for the warm wellcome Shirin-noona, Mystisith, Alua, Aoiaheen, and Cruelsummer.
please forgive me, post no 24 should be reply for Mystisith, Alua, Cruelsummer, i know no need to explain but i’m replying trhough my phone (old one) n feel lucky enough to be able to reply after alot of error. this is the time when i dearly missed my stabil net conection.
congrat to the born of OT Twins, hope get one too.
Welcome! Have a good weekend and watch lots of dramas
I would “like” that comment (like in Facebook) if there was an option. Have a Happy Friday and a happy OT day.
Welcome to the OT, fairycutter! We’re happy to have a new voice
Love when newbies come out of the woodwork. Means that I am not a newbie any more… Yeah.
Welcome to OT.
How is your drama watching going? Are you in love with any drama lately?
Hola!!! Nice to meet you too! Have fun here
thanks alot for the warm welcome.
Tinabobina: i had good
Does anyone else stockpile their drama thoughts until OT? Just me? Of course I don’t write anything down and forget it all by Friday, but I’m gonna give it a shot.
It’s been a bummer of a week. After being depressed for about two months straight, I finally crawled out and was in really good spirits and then my step mother passed away on Valentines Day. I didn’t even know she was sick. I got a call at 10:00 to say they were putting her in hospice and then I got a call at 11:35 telling me that she had passed away. I complain about my kdrama addiction all the time, but if it were not for my addiction I’m not sure I could have managed this week.
Okay…so none of that.
Dream High II- Yeah…I’m still in. It’s getting much more interesting. Still hate JB and Raina, though, but their flashback scenes are the cutest. I need JB to keep up with the cute and drop the jerk act.
Wild Romance- This show will be the death of me. I can’t even explain it. I think I may just love it so much because it frustrates me. Dong Ah and Director Kim are so much fun. Their entire conversation about what turns him on from the elevator to the car was worth the prive of admission, but then to add MY and EJ being so goofy in love. Ahh…so satisfying. I seriously need them to wrap the stalker bit, though.
SUFBB-I always want to start off by saying how much I love it. I want to stop, but I can’t help it. Nothing but love. Someone asked in a previous thread, but I don’t think there was a response. I would also like to know the name of SuAh’s favorite song that Sung Joon sings and I also liked the song that Strawberry Fields performed at the show (even though they still shouldn’t have won). If anyone has any information, please let me know. I also happened to see those Beats by Dre earphones when I was wandering through Best Buy. How on Earth are those kids supposed to afford $300 headphones? Maybe JiHyuk bought a pair for everyone before he fell into poverty, lol.
Rewatching ‘Protect the Boss.’ Need some silly JiSung to pull me out of my funk.
Oh and I forgot to add my praise for the ‘Wild and Wacky’ subbing team over at Viki. The subs for Wild Romance have been coming out consistantly on the day of broadcast. They are super fast and accurate. I really admire their dedication and am very appreciative.
Viki subbers, especially the Wild and Wacky team are awesome, glorious, incredible, talented people. I watch the live streaming version of WR in the morning and by around 8pm-ish eastern time, it’s always 99-100% complete. Much love to them!
They are amazing, and ck10z – I hope I got it right – is a great team leader that looks after the Wild & Wacky Team. Except fort those 2 episodes a while back where they prety much took out Eun Jae for 2 episodes to focus more on Jong Hee, I haven’t missed a single episode. The other 2 episodes I just skipped through. Heh.
Yeah…that was a dark time in WR World. I believe that’s when she put out the disclaimer for ‘No cursing whatsoever’ LOL. Jessica’s arrival was bringing out the beast in everyone
Yeah man, I fast-forwarded those Jong-hee parts. I mean I like Jessica, just not in this — and I agree with most folks on the WR forums — Jong-hee acted so much better when she was with EJ. Plus she looked really awkward kissing Lee Dong Wook. He’s what, 10 or more years older than Jessica? It just looked strange.
Re: Beats by Dr. Dre…maybe Do-il got a gangster dad hookup, a la a fall-off-the-truck discount? Just sayin’…
Well maybe Gangster Dad can get an off the truck drum kit as well. Poor Do-Il and his bootleg drums, lol.
*comes running* Do-il? Someone said Do-il! X) Almost Monday.
Do -il ! LOVE HIM! Let me count the ways
1) OMG ! he looks HOT when he plays the drums.
2) OMG! he looks HOT when he stares at someone in anger.
3) OMG! he looks HOT when he speaks ever so calmly.
4) OMG! he looks HOT when he doesn’t speak at all.
and another reason why i love him… he’s so hot.
How about his hair? Pretty, shiny Pantene hair. (I think I started something when I said that in the SUFBB Episode 5 comments.)
aoiaheen, you forgot the lovelorn look.
I always like those silent type characters (and even more so when they are eye candy).
Dude I would totally post one of my favorite Do-il pictures (really, Lee Hyun-jae) here if I could. Instead, here’s the link. Happy Friday, y’all.
http://bit.ly/yQAHEm
Ee-Gads!! I literally jumped back in my office chair. Damn he’s hot. Geesh.
@Cruelsummer
I know, right??? Lord, have mercy! *like a gospel singer with hands up in the air and head down*
Kewbie, that was so pretty I actually got flustered and closed the webpage instead of clicking backward!
I’ve been listening to Mate a lot this past week. Really enjoy them.
yup, the lovelorn looks has me going “aaaahhhhh”.
and kewbie, that pic!
Does anyone think he looks like a young tom cruise?
@aoiaheen
I actually saw an interview on Youtube from the SUFBB press conference where they asked L something about his co-stars, and he said that Lee Hyun-jae looked like Tom Cruise, and when they pan out you see Lee Hyun-jae laughing looking shy and nervous, and Yu Min-kyu nudging him saying something like, “Look, he (LHJ) likes it.” Then they ask LHJ something but then I get totally lost looking at him again so I have no idea what he said.
@aoiaheen-I hate to admit it because he’s nutso, but I am getting a Tom Cruise Outsiders vibe from him.
BTW, is your name Hawaiian based?
@Joanne
Oh yeah, I love Mate, too. It’s too bad that Jong Jun-Il and Im Heon-il are in the army now. We’ll have to wait 2 years to see Mate back in action/in concert. Speaking of Mate, I saw their movie Play from last June, and it’s weird (but cool) to see Lee Hyun-jae talking and smiling so much in it (vs. in SUFBB).
@kewbie. aha! so it’s not just me!
@Cruelsummer. I’ve never really thought of Tom Cruise as HOT, even when i was young. I know he’s good looking and all that but he never really did it for me. Now Do-Il on the other hand….. Sigh!
My name isn’t hawaiian. aoi is just my fav name and aheen a family name.
Aw, Aoiheen, you shoulda said something like:
“Yes, my family has made flower-printed sparkly ahjumma pants in the Hawaiian islands for more that ten generations.
“My grandmother raises the conch horn skyclad everyday to greet the dawning.
“My mother is the local shaman and will tattoo you using an exacto knife and different-colored sharpies.
You know, just a typical family.”
—
Or not.
BTW, I’m the resident storyteller and weirdo. Welcome to our humble world!
@Shukmeister ha ha! If i could tell a story then I’d be a super tall-super skinny girl who lives in a rooftop apt next to a bad-boy-in-a-band. I would also have been blessed with everlasting youth. Very vampire like but i can go out in the sun without shining and i can get a tan.
Sorry to hear about your step-mom, Cruelsummer – sending hugs and good vibes your way ^^ glad your k-dramas are keeping you in relatively good spirits
Thanks, mellowyel. Not sure if it’s really hit yet, but I am so thankful for the drama distraction.
Sorry to hear about your step mom. I understand how much help and source of distraction dramas can be when depressed.
I hope you can find the strength you need to stand up again and go on with your life. I’m looking for mine as well.
Every day we get up and breathe, girls. That’s the only thing there is. It hurts less, eventually. It really does.
You aer right
So sorry to hear about your Stepmother.
I’m glad you had a distraction.
I have yet to finish Protect the Boss. I’m stuck at episode 11. Not necessarily because I don’t like it but I always end up starting and stopping in the middle of episodes to deal with other things. I swear the universe knows I am watching it and purposely creates things that I have to deal with in the middle of it. I’m hoping to finish it this weekend as it is a holiday weekend.
I love Wild Romance. It has its flaws, but I love it anyway. It wasn’t at all what I was expecting as the first two episodes were seriously comedic and wacky, but I like what I got.
Hahaha!! *wipes tears* YES! I love SUFBB so much but every time one of the ‘poor’ kids has a Dr Dre Beatz headphone around their neck I can feel all my sarcastic senses tingling. Really Show? Really? Please let me reach that level of ‘poverty’ so I can buy those kind of quality headphones from my meagre student budget. Lol! Aaw but enough bashing. The drama has gotten practically everything else right how can I not forgive them for that minor trip up? :* Now all you have to give me is a little more of Sung Joon and Do Il’s backstory. The curiosity is killing me!
I also agree with you on Wild Romance. I really like that show and of course Manager Kim and Dong are are my favourite couple. I know this is sacrilege (prepares for all OT’s to permanently ostracise her)…but I didn’t really like Scent of a Woman. It was too depressing for me (and this is a hardcore drama fan who is addicted to dramas that make her howl by their end). I only got halfway through then had to stop. The finality of her waiting for her impending doom was too real. Especially her mom’s reaction etc. (Sidenote: LOVE Kim Sun Ah though). So I was really glad to see Lee Dong Wook in this funny rom-com shedding off that angst depressed suffering image. Li Si Young is killing it as Eun Jae too. For me she is one of the best young actresses in Korea. She has no qualms about shedding her ‘pretty’ image and getting stuck into her role. I already knew she could do comedy from her hilarious dumb character in Birth of the Rich but her tomboy representation here is awesome. Though it may be a bit exaggerated to compare it to Yoon Eun Hye in Coffee Prince (one of the first dramas I watched so I actually thought she WAS a boy for the first episode), it’s just as believable.
Dream High is getting better…but I still cringe whenever JB comes on screen. He’s debuting at the same time as Junior (who plays Yoo Jin’s dancing friend) but Junior is so much better than him. Why didn’t they just make Junior the lead? I guess I’m just being harsh because I loved the first one so much (Sam Dong-ah!!). I’m also a bit biased toward Kang Sora because I know what a good actress she is despite her annoying character.
*Whew! Sorry for such a long post!*
Re: SUFBB
How far did you get in the show?
Ji-hyuk (Sung Joon) may or may have come from a rich family, but he rejects their life/lifestyle. In episode 2 a man shows up at his rooftop home and introduces himself as the “family lawyer”, but Ji-hyuk says something like, “I’m not part of that family.” Then the lawyer dude says his stepfather is sick or something and they want Ji-Hyuk to sign over his inheritance, but he kinda pushes the paperwork away. Then the lawyer dude says, you’re making it harder on your mom, who apparently is being pressured by other family members to give up her parental rights or legal rights on Ji-hyuk, and then he says to the lawyer, well go ahead and do that. Sad.
Do-il (Lee Hyun-jae) is the son of a notorious gangster/mob guy which we found out in episode 3 when the gang from their old high school drops by the pool hall (which Do-il’s mom runs) to taunt them about their friend Byung-hee’s death. They get into a fight, they call their older brother, who arrives, but then recognizes Do-il as the son of this mob boss Jo Sung Pa. They cower in fear! haha… Do-il’s friends/band mates didn’t even know of his background (except for Ji-hyuk).
So you see, either of them could probably get their hands on Beats by Dr. Dre easier than the other guys.
Damn forgot to edit again…I meant to say that it seems like Ji-hyuk came from a rich family. What poor family would have a lawyer coming over asking to sign over his inheritance?
What I want to know is this: what would possibly be the reason that she would need to give up her parental rights to Ji Hyuk? And if it’s his stepfather, why does he have inheritance rights at all?
Maybe it’s easier to wrangle Ji-hyuk out of his inheritance if he’s not considered a family member.
As for his stepfather, maybe Ji-hyuk’s parents had a company, dad died, and mom married stepdad who also has a company. Maybe they merged assets? Who knows?
I know they sorta implied it in BOF when Jun-pyo’s sister Jun-hee was telling her mom, something to the effect of, “You wanted a hotel, so you married me off to get one.” Share and share alike, I guess.
Yeah…I watched all that. But I also got the vibe that they don’t accept money from their parents on principle. Ji Hyuk because his mother has obviously remarried and is prioritising her new family over him and Do-Il because his dad’s a gangster. That’s why they were scrambling for money for the drums and for their uniforms. If they can’t afford money for those things (especially the drums since they centre their lives around the band) how and why are they willing to drop serious cash for Beatz? I dunno…it’s not a big deal but little things like that need some explaining lol.
Haha…I know.
Cool headphones are just *that* important to a high school band, I guess. I think the producers of the film didn’t expect the viewers to notice that their headphones were the expensive kind.
Anyone know if Beats are really that good? Hmm…
Re: Wild Romance
What I like about Lee Shi Young as Eun-jae is that even though her facial expressions and her acting are sometimes exaggerated, she really has some of those characteristically male behaviors down pat. For example in episode 12 (or was it 13?) when they go to the mall and she sees the Blue Seagulls player, Mu-yeol asks her, are you that happy? She totally hits him like a guy, although in happiness. I also love to see her interaction with Mu-yeol — even when they hated each other, it was so good and so funny to watch.
I love Dong-ah and Mgr Kim, too. They are so strange, but somehow something is working between them.
I didn’t get to see all of Scent of a Woman but Kim Sun-ah was really good in the parts that I saw. I didn’t care as much for Lee Dong Wook as much in that one as I do in Wild Romance. Maybe because his character in SoaW is so much more subdued than his character in WR. Mu-yeol in WR is arrogant, bad-tempered, and really just a guy’s guy. He kills it as much as LSY does with Eun-jae. I have said this multiple times in the past but I REALLY REALLY want to see LDW and LSY do another comedy together — maybe a movie, if not another show. I just love them together.
Re: DH2
Your Jr. comment is what I’ve been thinking throughout the series so far!! Why didn’t they make him lead?! I mean, DH2 is major PR work for both of them pre-debut, and Jr. is a stronger actor (not great, but better than JB), so yeah. I don’t know why they didn’t have him play JB’s role given that JB plays the cute role better, and Jr.’s character in DH2 is a ball of cute, so I feel like they really should’ve switched the two.
Man, here’s to hoping the script changes make this a stronger drama, so it can cover up the bad acting at least (like it did in DH).
Can’t wait to watch this week’s episodes of Fermentation Family. Gosh, it’ll end by next week. I wish there was a way I could give encouragement to the cast and crew of this wonderful drama. Happy Friday everyone.
Yes, Love FF too! Can’t wait to see the ending but sad that it will be the end of the show soon. (sigh) such a great drama.
I know right? This is definitely joining Fantasy Couple (Oh Ji Ho, Han Ye-seul) and Thank You (Jang Hyuk, Gong Hyo-jin) as my favorite kdramas. Sad to see it coming to an end, but my love for the actors continue to grow and I hope to see more of them in the future, especially our sizzling main couple.
Don’t you think every character in Fermentation Family has his/her coming around moment that makes this drama so special and poignant?
In the last couple of episodes, I felt for the president’s son for the first time especially during his late night chat with HT where you’re seeing how lonely and defeated he is but yet feeling the comfort of having someone to open up his inner thoughts. And you can’t help but care more and more about the president’s aide who has been in that regretful pain for so many years on what he did to the boy HT.
The return of the father in the latest eppisode just brought me endless tears. I am so proud of the grumpy grandpa for his selfless thought, putting the cure of the father ahead of his. The two daughters are showing their virtues in their finest in dealing with the heartbreaking challenge. The way our OTP support each other is a joy to behold.
I am not sure if the president has his turnaround moment but his quest for his wife’s love seems to be genuine.
Two more episodes and this wonderful drama will be gone….arghhhhhhh.
Yes… I agree. Every characters in this drama no matter how big or small has a story and they all get their time to shine. I love that the Lee family of Earth and Man are so humble due to how they were raised by their parents and how they continue to pass what they learned onward. I haven’t seen this kind of writing– of characters so warm and loving that you can’t help but watch the show to see what happen to them.
As for the president, I don’t think he’ll have his turnabout moments. He seem to want to get rid of all problems that he can’t deal with or he’s in denial/blame other because his wife never loved him. I don’t know why he’s so crazy to stay in a relationship/marriage like that. Must be the money since he wasn’t rich before he married her? I hope he get what’s due him soon since episode 22 was sorta hinting at something big coming. As long as the bad guys get caught and the good guys don’t get hurt, I’m all for it. ^^
Yeah, I don’t think Oh Myung Chul is going to turn around. Maybe they might give him a moment of pause. His son might convince him to stop, but he’s past the point of no return this man. I think he loved his wife and what’s motivating him now is partially heartbreak and partially money. Man I love this show. And I feel bad for his son and how he was pretty much put in the same situation with his father: that she ignored him over her obsession of the child she loved.
Who else loved it when Chairman Jung told President Oh that he will NOT hurt her/that child again? God, the actress Jung Ae-ri pretty much came to life in that moment. She was totally a Wild Mother protecting her young, I almost expected her to snarl, hiss, and show her claws. She was that good.
And I always like to come back to Song Il-kook’s eyes. He expresses so much through them. A couple of episodes back when he found about his dad and he was raging in front of Kang-san about how he was never going to forgive “them”. The camera stayed on his eyes the whole time and you can tell he was livid. But right when Kang-san touched him (back hugs for the win) you pretty much saw the anger just melt away. And all that was left in his eyes was heartbreak and pure vulnerability. I think the intensity of those eyes and how Song Il-kook can display so much emotion through them will be the death of me. I even got a bit spooked this one time when the camera was showing just his eyes over someone’s shoulder (it was a night scene, I forget because all I can remember were those eyes) and I would hate to be the one that those eyes look at when angry. *shivers*
Yeah, I don’t know when I’ll ever be able to stop praising this drama. It’s just so damn good. I know the drama is not perfect and I know there are people that might find fault with every little thing about it, but I love it and I don’t regret the hours spent watching it. X)
his supposed quest ( oh myung chul right?) is ridiculous and while I understand that he might have liked her more than she liked him when they first met and married, from the little snippets I’ve learned ( he quit his job to work in her company, kidnapped and ordered the death of her child, hated that she pined for her old lover) all seems more like general possessiveness and greed. Some of his possessiveness I can forgive but his calculating behavior does not forgive all of it.
What channel is Fermentation Family on?
JTBC
thank you.
my name? well, blame FT Islands.
sadly, currently i’m not watching new drama thanks to my internet conection that been cut since last month.
last drama i watched are padam2, wild romance, HOTS, BVS (minus first 3 episode). now just keep update HOTS recap.
reading MoonSun, OpPro, SU:FBB recaps, while hope can watch it soon.
Are there any great search terms, in English, for OST songs, etc, on itunes? So far I just find Secret Garden and then just follow a few crumbs here and there to other random songs, etc. Or is there another site for legal downloads? Nothing by Rain is on itunes. Pffff!
Leaf, I relate. My husband built standing desks for us last week. Trying to burn some extra calories while doing my daily 8-10 hours of computer work and extra hours for various kdrama watching. 50-60 extra calories burnt per hour standing versus sitting. So far, I can manage 5 hrs/day standing at the new desk but I have to set a timer to track how long I am standing just to encourage me not to perch per the old habit!
Ha… standing desks? I could never do that… I spent most of my day lying in bed on my laptop…
Sometimes if you copy and paste the korean into itunes it comes up, but I haven’t searched for rain on itunes
on itune you can find also The Princess’ man, Teh woman who Still Wants to Marry, Oh My Lady, The Best love (only on itunes is called My Last Love), Sungkyunkan Sancandal, Coffe prince, 49 Days, and a few more
I was actually quite surprise this week when I found so many
Me too!! I spazzed soo much on MY & EJ on their near kiss , I think my neighbor thought I was being assaulted!! I need to petition for a bed scene for those 4 dorky people!
Heck yeah! I was beginning to pump my fist and kick during MY and EJ their almost-kisses. I yelled a little bit, too. Good thing I was alone in my house when I watched. Wasn’t MY’s confession the best? So sweet for someone who acts so agressively at times.
I really want them to have an incredible kiss, but other people think that’s not going to happen since it’s almost the end of WR, but I’m holding out for some fanservice. I will miss Lee Shi Young and Lee Dong Wook together. I would love to see them together again in another project. I think they would do great together in another comedy.
That confession was too adorable. Hilarious that she bolted, not a playful trot, a full out sprint.
I made the most noise during the last interrupted kiss. Too funny. They broke away so fast and covered their faces like they were on an episode of ‘Cheaters’. I think I’m looking forward to MY meeting the Dad as EJ’s boyfriend, than the actual kiss. I want to see Dad struggle to keep his promise and I want to see EF cheering for her Red Dreamer in a sea of blue.
Oh yeah, it kinda fit EJ’s reasoning — that she was happy and scared. I get it, girlfriend. She totally bolted when she and MY were about to kiss and her dad and brother drove up. I hope they can accept MY as EJ’s boyfriend when the time comes. I love that MY has softened up a little bit towards EJ now that he totally likes her. So, so sweet, this couple. *blows kisses to MY and EJ*
Can you imagine EJ’sdad when MY comes to her house stepping on his face rug! That would be so funny!
The best part that I spazzed so much is when he first tried to kiss her then she pushed him away to catch the cat! I mean MY literally rolled on the ground!!
Haha I think I actually screamed at that one…because I really wanted him to kiss her! I found it funny that she ran away thinking he was trying to sexually assault her. The second kiss attempt would have been better if the cops hadn’t interrupted!
It was funny that while she was busy shrinking back from him and squinching her face up, her lips were puckering for that kiss – every time!
Happy Friday everyone. So haven’t watched any Drama’s this week, which is shocking but due to my mom visiting and work craziness i have been reluctant to start anything new. (Am still watching the awesomness that is Salaryman though!)
However i have watched a crazy amount of We Got Married!!!! Holy Addiction Batman is this show awesome!
I am like strangely invested in almost all the couples even though i realize Season 1 was like 4 years ago, oh and they are fake couples.
I refuse to believe that Andy & Solbi aren’t meant to be together forever in real life. (I had a alarmingly high degree of anxiety when she lost the ring, Why didn’t you tell him Solbi!!! Why!)
Also Crown J + Seo In Young = Comic Gold.
And I finally get the appeal of Kim Hyung-joon who I watched in both BOF (soo wooden) and Playful Kiss (much better). He is freakin adorable!!
The best thing of all is that I have my mother completley and utterly addicted to the show. (She plans on watching it by herself when she goes home!)
I have been meaning to add WGM to my list. Your enthusiam makes me want to jump right in this weekend. Where are you watching it, btw? Are there english subs?
Yes you must watch it!!! Its soo good. I watch it with a big stupid grin on my face! I watch it on Dailymotion but I know MySoju has it too.
KshowNow.net has many of them – most are eng. subbed.
Thanks for the link Cynthia!
Forgot to add – JB & GF did a Variety Roulette a few weeks back on WGM. It’s a fun read and we had a good discussion in the comments. You might want to read it if you missed it.
Season 1 is the best season for sure. Everyone likes the yongseo couple now or gain and jo kwon or khun and that other girl (don’t remember her name) but nothing beats season 1
hi Tinabobina!
i hadnt saw season 1 in full due to sub that lit bit hard to find. but i saw few of pudingjelly and lit of kang in.
before i lost my net conection last month, i already plan to watch lettuce couple (that the right name right?) after reading how awsome they were… hope can watch it soon.
Yeah thats what I have heard about Season 1 being the best. But I am scared for myself because I feel the need to watch all the past episodes/seasons in order to get current. Season 1 is like over 50 episodes! But I am compelled….
Has anyone started dating for real as a result of the show? Or wait! Don’t tell me I want to keep the hope alive!
Hi fairycutter! Yea, season 1 the couples were really entertaining, and it was new and fresh. Seo In Young and Crown J were really funny, KHJ is just so weird it’s cute and Andy/Solbi were adorable. I watched some on kshow and ktopia I think, I don’t know if they have everything but I think they had some of the first season. Now the show has lost its appeal to me.
and lovebug, season 1 really doesn’t have as many episodes as the current seasons do!
happy friday too Lovebug.
i also refuse to believe adam couple was not meant to be….
please be secretly dating Kwonie and Gain unni.
really miss them…
Cruelsummer, there’s sub from kkapline subbing, not sure bout the site though.
happy friday too Lovebug.
i also refuse to believe adam couple was not meant to be….
please be secretly dating Kwonie and Gain unni.
really miss them…
Cruelsummer, there’s sub from kkapline subbing, not sure bout the site though. or kshownow dot net.
Since I’ve been obsessed with WR, I’ve been trying to find the episodes with LSY and Junjin when they were on the show. I’ve seen a couple of their scenes but not a lot.
Kim Hyun Joong was SO cute. I have all the episodes with him and Hwang Bo and I watch them when I need some cheering up. KHJ…so adorable…and hot
LSY and JJ were really funny, only because they were so mismatched, initially. She was an anal neat-freak who hated having any of her ‘stuff’ touched – she was big into buying (and displaying) those little gundam toys. She had them displayed in cases and shelves. The first time she met JJ, she warned him not to touch anything, and like the magpie he was, picked one up and accidentally broke it. You’da thought she was gonna pass out from horror and rage. It really was funny. I don’t recall them lasting that long as a WGM couple, but they did date after the show.
Mysoju.net used to have all of the older eps, but they were listed as ‘broken’ last year and were never repaired. Sad.
Hi everybody!! Have a fantastically fantastic day!!!
Happy Friday!!!
I think I’m getting pretty good at this speed reading thing, this OT only took me 30 mins to skim!!
But Leaf, congrats on your awesome Mandarin skills, maybe we can converse in both Mandarin and Korean when we travel the world together someday
.
And JoAnne, hope your daughter is taking things well. Where I live, I feel like sometimes these things happen so often that it doesn’t become that big a deal anymore…. It’s sad, I know. The world that we live in…
But on a happier note, I’m auditioning for SM Global Auditions this weekend!!! As an actress… though I barely speak any Korean… we’ll see how that goes… Wish me luck!
Oh another thing, anyone have a sideways hot man in black and white on your header right now?
Just wondering who it was…
Don’t see it but it could be one of our new headers with Lee Min Ho or Yoochun. LMH has a suit/tie on, Yoochun is in a tee.
Both are yummy.
I love all those new headers, and i noticed they refresh more frequently. Little things can have a great impact on fans.
There’s also one with a guy in a sweater, but sleeveless, big collar? Believe it or not, that’s Uhm Tae Woong. The one that always makes me laugh is Kang Ji Hwan ‘I will eat your tears for breakfast’
bwaaaaaaa hahahahaahah every time
Dog-Feet has his own header?! How could I have missed that one?!
Apropos of nothing, I was reading over at Soompi and they have a post up about Goo Soo going off the market today. Talk about a star-studded hunklicious showing of the guys in their suits! Gah!
Today’s the wedding? They don’t have long engagements, I’ve noticed.
hmmm haven’t seen any of those yet, I keep on getting the ones with Gong Hyo Jin.
the hot man is wearing a white tank I think? or was it a black tank?
But yes, these hot men headers do make my day sometimes. Like little bursts of happiness that lasts all day.
Good luck on your audition.
Best of luck on your audtions.
Haha yeah, that would be awesome
And OMG GOOD LUCK ON THE AUDITIONS!!!! That’s awesome!!!
And they take people who don’t speak Korean so you’ll be fine!!! And seriously, that’s awesome
Good luck Jennifer!
Good luck at your audition!!!
Happy Friday, Jennifer! Good luck!!
heehee thanks for the wishes! I’m gonna come back and read these right before I audition to boost my confidence and feel lovely like I do right now.
Why can’t everyone in the world be like people in this OT?
Just think of us as your private ‘rah-rah’ support group!
Good luck with your audition!!
That is a question I always ask myself
Maybe we should all just create an Dramabeans Country and move there!!
hahaha that would be interesting. As long as it doesn’t turn into a cult!
With all you awesome people? Unlikely
omo! I just learned that Antarctica isn’t governed by any country. Idk if I’m the only one who didn’t know that, but is it just coincidence that I learned that last night after having this convo about starting a Dramabeans Country and moving there?
I think not!
There’s some kind of agreement about it not belonging to anyone, I think…which kind of makes me laugh.
Let’s all agree that no one owns this!
Okay!
What about the guy in the corner who had his fingers crossed behind his back, I wonder?
Thumbs up for the speed reading @Jennifer!
good luck on your audition! my friend is auditioning this weekend too! tomorrow actually. (=
Break a Leg! I hope you kick some butt at the audition!
Hello Everyone!
Happy Friday and OT! A couple weeks ago I said I was going to interviews for an internship, and I got it! I really like it, good environment, am learning a lot, it’s great
As for dramas, I am trying to decide if I should watch dream higher(er). They aren’t doing recaps anymore, and I don’t want to be disappointed bc the first one was so good. iunno, we’ll see. I think I’m either gonna rewatch a fav (samsoon?) or watch a classic rom com.
On another note, my family is gone for the weekend so I have decided to make kimchi dumplings! Going to the korean market either today or tomorrow I think, I’m really excited.
KIMCHI DUMPLINGS!!! Omg they sound so good
Good luck with them!!!
But the best thing is Kimchi fried rice <3 (for now…)
Give Dream Higherer a chance. I’m up to Ep 6 and firmly invested. It took a little bit.
yummmm that sounds good, I’ve never had kimchi dumplings before but I love dumplings and kimchi so them together must be amazing.
I’ve heard they’re kinda hard to make though so I haven’t tried making them yet even though I’ve wanted to eat them for a while.
Dumplings are REALLY HARD TO MAKE…
Trust me on this… I made some Pierogi (Polish Dumplings, which are basically the same as Asian Dumplings… which supports my theory that Polish food is basically Korean food minus the chilli lol) for me and my Mum’s super traditional Polish Christmas Eve and they were so hard too make… but fortunately they tasted ok!!
So FIGHTING!!!
^sings^ Mandu mandu mandu!!
American dumplings are easy, fortunately. And my friend Dan taught me to make chinese dumplings – a bit more intensive than my normal cooking, but not actually difficult, just time-consuming with the making.
But maybe that’s just because we eat so many.
Sort of a really dumb question, but what exactly do you refer to with American dumplings?
it’s just a simple milk/flour dough (and maybe some herbs) dumped in little lumps into stew or soup to boil up for the last bit of cooking. Here’s the link, there’s a good picture if you click for the classic chicken and dumpling dish most people in the states would think of when you mention dumplings.
http://simplyrecipes.com/recipes/chicken_and_dumplings/
Ah, that makes sense now! Thanks for enlightening me!
Well I don’t think they are that hard to make. I’ve made them several times. Though I buy the dough, and just do the filling for the mandu.
Also, since I don’t eat meat, I add more tofu and shiitake mushrooms
I make them with napa cabbage and tofu usually.
I don’t think they are that hard to make either, it’s just practice and you’ll get the hang of it eventually. But admittedly, I will half the time cheat on the dough too (i.e. buy it pre-made).
I have made it from scratch too – Chinese dumplings, Nepali momo, Korean mandu because I looove them all. Such comfort food.
And sometimes I totally cheat and buy the whole dumplings pre-made (veggie Korean ones actually!) – that and (nice) ramen are my standard don’t-feel-like-cooking-go-to-quick-food.
I made them from scratch… and plus they are more like pasta then the thin wonton skins asian dumplings tend to use…
Anyway I found them difficult!! But then I am not a pastry person or anything. So I found rolling out the pastry difficult especially as in the end I rolled them too thin so they broke apart and we had to fry them instead of boil them lol. But I like stir frys etc etc not baking.
@Leaf I’ll have to try making the dough one day
I wonder if rolling the down a pasta cuter will make thins easier. Then the dough will be the same thickness of a ravioli
Thanks guys! Eek! Well if they’re hard then it will be a learning experience, I already figure it’ll take a while since it will be just me and my dog (she can’t help, probably will just try to eat everything unfortunately). I’m just thinking really simple, kimchi, tofu, chives/green onions and whatever pepper/that type of thing, and I am buying the dumpling wrappers.
and JoAnne, if you say it’s good, I’ll trust you, I will try dream higherer
You can find useful tips (including videos) here (WARNING: this will make you crave dumplings!):
http://www.asiandumplingtips.com/asian-dumplings-cookbook.html
I actually have the book from that site too.
I had to laugh – just this morning I opened up my latest issue of Cooking Light and it landed randomly on a page showing a recipe for BiBimBap, although they called it BiBimBop. And then there’s Part 4 of their Best 100 Cookbooks, which is focusing on Asian cook books (nothing specifically Korean that I noticed) and finally, an interview with Marja Vongerichten and a recipe for Dukbokkeum, which is some sort of chicken stew that looks pretty yummy!
Our little enthusiasm is now spreading to mainstream American magazines, LOL…
I gave in and bought some Kimchi at the grocery store today, along with gochukang, bean sprouts, and tofu. Gonna make some bibimbap with a side of kimchi at SOME point this week. I have no fears about the bibimbap…but 10 years in the Army hearing people complain about kimchi have me a little anxious about opening that jar.
Ooohh…..we HATED it when my Korean roomie opened her Kimchi….you could smell it through the entire apartment (of course, it was a very small college apt.)
That’s potent smelling stuff. Of course, at the time I didn’t like sauerkraut either, but I learned to like it in Germany.
I noticed that our new favorite Chinese buffet in hubby’s hometown is owned by Koreans, they have kimchi in the salad bar, you’d have thought I’d notice it sooner, but I don’t go to the Chinese buffet for salad, lol. Not brave enough to try it yet, either.
I find recipes online, try this sites:
http://www.koreataste.org/lang/en/category/en/food-en/recipes-en/
http://www.maangchi.com/
http://aeriskitchen.com/
It might help you to buy the ingredients you need. I always use store bought wrappers
Tina…skip all the music bits from the first 3 episodes. just pay attention to the parts that tell you who people are. Starting with 4 you begin to get a feel for the story, 5 helps it along, 6 you are IN it.
@alua & zgznoona: these sites look amazing! I’ve been meaning to try a few recipes and these look most helpful, planning on making them tomorrow, we’ll see how it goes
@JoAnne: Okay, I heard the music bits were a bit much in the first couple episodes, but I’m still looking forward to it!
OTL Can someone recommend me some good recent sageuk dramas?
Watched Dong Yi/The Princess Man and I’m hooked again . CRIES. HAN HYO JOO, MOON CHAE WON, Y U DO THIS TO ME?
- I’ve watching The Moon Embracing the Sun, Yi San
-Watched Dae Jang Geum ( I mean, who hasn’t?)
- Tried SKKS but it just wasn’t for me :’(
are there any other good ones? OTL im going through a sageuk drama phase
Tree With Deep Roots is a recent one that was well-recieved – HeadsNo2 recapped it here on Dramabeans.
yeah I was looking at that.
It’s not to sad is it? The poster looked so dark and gloomy and ominous.
Most of the sageuks are sad,but I haven’t seen TWDR so I don’t know!
yeah. hm, I guess i’ll just have to deal with them all being sad.
Any other recommendations?
Or any other Sageuk with some BOSS female lead characters?
Thanks btw!
Warrior Baek Dong So was excellent –
I thought TWDR was great! You should definitely give it a try!
No, it’s not too sad – more dramatic, with some action, mystery and a touch of comedy as well. I haven’t seen it yet, though – saving it for a future marathon
Conspiracy in the Court, Damo, Emperor of the Sea. All three are very good and well worth the watch!
While not all Sageuk end in tragedy, they do tend to have rather high body counts.
I love Sageuk. It’s probably my favorite genre. But it never hurts to have a box of tissues handy when watching.
SPOILER …
SPOILER
It was a great drama and I don’t regret not watching it but it does not have a happy ending for the OTP.
oh lord. ok. I don’t think or know if I can watch it. I hate it when the OTP gets split up or if one of them dies. it bugs me so incredibly much.
That is why I generally watch the last 10 minutes of the last episode of drama series … to make sure that all is well with the OTP.
I would occasionally watch a drama where I knew (or thought) the OTP was not going to be together … such as Scent of a Woman (and was pleasantly surprised with the ending).
While I was surprised with the ending, I would have probably still watched Tree With Deep Roots, despite everything because the 1st episode caught me.
Either javabeans or girlfriday said that Tree With Deep Roots is better than Moon Embracing the Sun. I am thinking of putting TWDR in my drama queue.
I don’t think this is considered recent anymore but I really like Queen Seon Duk. It’s about the ONLY sageuk I’ve seen since I don’t really like watching dramas with a bahgillion episodes.
Didn’t really like the ending but the beginning and acting were superb.
oh i saw that!
really? I had some issues with the casting. park ye jin as a sister was to unbelievable for me. I was under the impression that her charc was supposed to be the same as age Queen Seok Duk, yet they looked ages apart.
The Duo was good too.
Cathy,
don’t you mean historical drama? How about Giant, Seoul 1945 ( I’ve only seen one episode of this one and don’t have a true yay/nay opinion about it yet) I think the sacrifices in these dramas will be a little more easy on your heart. While I like the period dramas and most of them have awesome starts the middles can be really cliche and tiring.
Happy Happy OT Friday Everybody
So I just love Fridays thanks to y’all
@Leaf Hey I’ve been trying to lose weight and I have been, thanks to a more meatless meals. Yes I know how can one live without meat but it’s quite possible. Try eating more veggies, wheat products, and drinking real natural juice. Trust it will make a huge difference and doing about 30 to an hour of low impact exercises like my Fav DANCING!!! helps a lot also. Cut back for just a month and I know that you will start seeing a difference or rather people will start asking you if you’ve lost weight or doing something different because you look different/good/skinner/more glowy ^.^
@JoAnne so I’m not sure if you know this but Rain is so my Oppa for life, not like a BF but rather like a Big Brother, love my Oppa so I’m one hundred percent behind you as you being Bi Rain Oppa’s number one, as long as you don’t hurt him then all is well cuz no one hurts Oppa and gets away with it >< hehe but no seriously ^.^
So idk where everyone lives but I'm so down for the movies, I live in NY time, idk what the time zone is but yay I'm down for movies.
And I have great news, my New Bestie moves to Korea in a week YAY so excited for him. Next up is ME!!!
Just a couple more months to go and yes anyone can email if they want me to send them stuff from overseas as long as you got the bucks to pay for it hehe.
So freaking excited for these upcoming shows in the Spring/Summer, can't wait for by real Oppa Yoochun to come back to my computer screen.
So far I'm watching only Skip Beat, S. GanG, Lucky 7 and random Kmovies. Recapping SU: FBB love this show can't wait to have time and give it it's proper attention, and I really like OP, it's cute and gives me a pause to think what if I had done this or that, would we still be together? I like the idea of changing certain events to give a better outcome.
K I think I'm mainly done with my loooong rant.
Keeping everyone in my prayers especially for those dealing with all these losts going on in people's lives.
OTF HWAITING !!!
Hey KStyle!! There’s a bunch of us East Coasters here (VA is for KDrama Lovers!).
Last week’s movie was set up for Saturday, 10:30 pm (2230 hours) EST.
Happy Friday everyone!
So law school has been beating me to a pulp the last couple of weeks, but I finally get a reprieve – a 6 day weekend! (Presidents’ Day + a Faculty retreat) FINALLY I can sleep and catch up on… schoolwork. sigh.
At least I have the Eye Candy boys to keep me company. I’m planning on re-watching episodes 1-4, then going on to 5 and 6, because I want the full buildup to the festival and the rooftop kiss. Because of this drama I’ve been listening to a lot of rock music and dreaming about the rock band groupie adolescence I never had, lol.
Once I have some more time on my hands, though, I’d actually love to make music – maybe re-learn how to play the piano, or try out guitar (bass, natch). Because clearly if I ever want to meet a hot rocker to kiss on a rooftop, I can’t wait to be chased into a rooftop room by gangsters…
@Jennifer You will do excellent. YAY for actresses!!! I’m one too even went to school for it.
Omg I have yet to make any knishes, kind of scared. I don’t really know of any market places here in FL’s capital so boooo.
I can’t for my boys Big Bang to hurry up and do this concert in the States. Awww I love them Oppas sorry I had a moment but I’m so freaking excited fo them to be finally coming to the States so that all VIPs can equally enjoy their awesomeness!!!
Now I just need SS501, Si Won from SuJu and my Oppas doing their military services to follow their example and Get Over Here !!!
Have you heard the teaser for their song “Blue”? It is really really good! I am looking forward to hearing their new stuff!
haha thx! I wish I had some experience!
What are u doing in Korea? Just for fun, vacay? Take me in your suitcase!
Are they all doing their military service? I thought I saw Si Won in Running Man a couple weeks ago…
Happy Friday Weekend, OT!
I’ve had such a normal-ish week this week I almost feel bad being able to be on the OT on a Friday!
No real news to post, except to say the Hot Spanish Guy is a total seltzer hog. This decreases his hotness by a factor of upset tummies.
No dramas this week again. On the flipside, though, I have been doing more writing so that’s a plus. I’ve recently discovered MNet…which has made me realize that although I like k-music, k-videos don’t work for me. Apparently I can’t not understand the words *and* not understand what I’m seeing. It’s gotta be one or the other. Storyline-y videos mostly work for me, or ones w/o candy colors and strange sets. :s
Um, so, yeah. I’m sure there’s more stuff I could post, but I really do feel strange taking a normal lunch. I’ll be back via mobile later.
*HUGS* everyone!
Plume! How is your own hottie-watching going?
hello prindley!
JUMMA LOVE! Missed you
Happy OT everyone!
Gonna go see the new Studio Ghibli movie! Then gonna eat some bomb pizza. Yum.
Hope you guys have a fun presidents day weekend.
借りぐらしのアリエッティ/Kari-gurashi no Arietti/Arrietty? Or コクリコ坂から/Kokuriko-zaka Kara/Up from Poppy Hill? Must be Kari-gurashi no Arietti, since that’s currently screening in the US, while Kokuriko-zaka Kara (despite having a run in Japanese cinemas already in the summer of 2011) is still awaiting release worldwide….
Enjoy!
I’m looking forward to that movie. I think it’s being distributed by Disney over here because the voice of Arietty is Bridgit Mendler from “Good Luck Charlie” (a Disney show). I actually want to see that movie, since I have enjoyed other Studio Ghibli films.
Already watched Arietty and liked it. It wasn’t as absurd as Ponyo, but wasn’t as gripping as Princess Mononoke. Slightly more cutesy than Howl’s Moving Castle.
Never watched one in english after Nausicaa.
It’s the anime rule: NEVER WATCH IN ENGLISH!!!!
Mainly because as I’m partically deaf it takes too much effort to listen well so I prefer subtitles… I put subtitles on for normal TV lol…
) mainly cause I think the English actress has a better singing voice…
Although I will admit to much prefering the dub of Whisper of the Heart (my favourite Studio Ghibi film
I have Whisper of the Heart – so is it really better? I heard that people were up in arms at the english dubbing of Kik’s Delivery Service.
Some of my Ghibli purist friends decried Liam Neeson doing the voice of the crazy guy in Ponyo.
My favorite would probably be Howl’s Moving Castle, followed by one that’s never been englished dubbed: Only Yesterday.
To me it is… and I really hate dubs… but that could just be my personal preference on it…
I hate dubs too. They make me *cringe*.
Although I have watched some Studio Ghibli dubbed by accident. Of those accidents, Howl’s Moving Castle was delightful (especially Christian Bale). Rewatched it subtitled though.
Other than the fact that I think a lot of the feel of the film and it’s culture being lost in dubbing, I also hate how the dubbing of animated films seems to have become a business of “Which is the biggest-name Hollywood actor we can involve in this project”? Not only does it take away jobs from people who do voice-acting for a living, but the focus shifts too much to the big names rather than being on the film!
Arrietty is good – but it doesn’t stand out as much though. But you’ll still enjoy it.
Mononoke Hime is one of my absolute faves. It’s so, so good on many levels. Narratively complex. Thought provoking. A fabulous heroine. And a wonderful and gorgeous hero (anime or not! Ghibli gives us eyecandy just as much). And I loooove Howl’s Moving Castle (Howl being another bit of eyecandy. Hehe. His character was in fact the one that made me realise that drawn characters can be gorgeous. If that sounds weird…. someone tell me that you get what I mean!).
Anyhow, better not get started on Studio Ghibli. I might never shut up and it’s past midnight already (and I’m tiiiired).
I vote for the subtitled too btw….
Oh, The Secret World of Arrietty
One of my favorite book series as a kid was The Borrowers, so I am sure I will see this when it comes out streaming on Netflix.
I don’t have a copy of The Borrowers, do I…hmm.
Book store tomorrow!
*A Moral Vacuum or Mental Illness*
In the place where Confucius was born, the fastest growing religion is that of “Protestant Christianity”, while Seoul Korea has the largest Christian church in all the world, with over a million members, and yet the incidents of high risk mortality due to suicide, in South Korea, Japan, and China, are some of the highest among nations.
So the question that keeps running in my mind is this one, “What is it about, Asian’s in particular that makes them so prone to choose suicide as an alternative coping mechanism”?
And my answer is very simple, even when I do not have all the answers, I am incline to believe that the basic philosophy of life, whether religious, ethical or secular, is what people used as the basis for all personal choices and that includes, the way that people go about choosing suicide as an alternative.
So than what about Suicide Bombers (martyrs)? Where to they fit in the equation?
Is self sacrificed while killing others, worst or better than killing once self because life is to hard?
Than what about Jesus, did he committed suicide or not?
But the most elementary question of them all is, “Is Suicide a valid form of human conduct or not”?
I am heavily motivated by my ethnic background, and as a Mexican in particular, our culture by enlarge does not condone the practice of suicide, and on the question of “Honor”, we feel that is better to go out in a “Blaze Of Glory”, than to commit suicide, and this philosophy of life have turn Mexico into one of the most violent country’s in the world, something I am not proud of.
I have suffer from mild depression all my life, but the fact that my cultural background, does not accept suicide as a honorably choice, nor my religious influence, I cannot consider even for a moment, suicide as a viable choice for my personal life.
So the question remains the same, what about suicide? Please do not take me wrong! I like most of you love Asian culture, and dramas Korean in particular, but while I have fun and enjoy watching all the shows, I am constantly aware, that in the same manner that not all is well with, my Mexican culture, South Korea, is suffering from the highest incidents of suicide of all modernize nations!
So instead of proposing a “Movie Night”, where we all can participate, why we as a Dramabean’s community, instead choose to “Pray” for the Korean people, specially those that suffer from mental illness, and for the culture of suicide to be turn around, since we all know that any life is worth living, no matter the circumstances, and as the old cliché goes, ‘There is always light at the end of the tunnel”……..
Well historical Christianity is also full with people who committed suicide (“martyrs”). People will feel like they have no choice if they are in a desperate situation.
And about the praying thing, I’m an athiest (and a very strong one) and I always feel really uncomfortable when people say we should ‘pray’ for others (something which thankfully doesn’t happen in the UK much) as I don’t understand why a (rather small) section of society should force it’s own opinions on other people.
I guess this just boils down to my servere dislike of religion. It’s not that I believe in telling people they can’t be religious (even though I can’t understand why people would choose to be) but it’s the massive gap between what religions say they are and what they actually are.
I mean even putting aside all the wars that have been fought over this there are still massive problems.
Like in Christianity they preach forgiveness however many Christians can’t seem to forgive people if they are gay or have an abortion (along with many other such issues). Now personally I would never have an abortion (and this is a choice I would never have to make) however that is my personal choice and I wouldn’t dream of telling others what they should do, unlike religion which seems perfectly happy to do so. I also fail to see how Politicians in the US (and with Tony Blair in the UK but thankfully slightly less so because really if he’d been any worse the UK would have collapsed) can claim to be oh so virtous and religious and then tell everyone that poor (and even the not so poor) people don’t deserve healthcare (even if it would save their life) etc etc. This is so different from what they should be preaching if they were actually following what the bible says (and note I’m not even judging their actions but just what they SAY).
Yeah… so basically I really really dislike religion and was obliviously overdue a rant about it…
So basically just ignore this ok?
Historical Christian martyrs were actually killed by other people – they didn’t commit suicide. Though I guess if you think that putting your life in danger for the sake of your beliefs is the same as killing yourself, then it could be seen that way.
I will agree with Leaf to the extent to say that your post, Amg1, makes me feel queasy because you throw religion in there, and it seems like a suggestion that certain religions condone suicide, and others don’t, sort of implying that some are better than others. I may be misreading you here, but that’s how it comes across to me.
Most religions, as far as I know, don’t condone suicide. Extremists, such as suicide bombers, that use religion as an excuse for suicide, or scaremongering and stereotyping of certain religions in the ‘West’, also don’t mean that those religions condone suicide.
Wiki stats, by the way, put Lithuania at the top, and seem to suggest that it’s not just Asians that rank high in committing suicide (not that the stats matter) but rather people from a mix of countries/cultures/religions.
Is suicide a “valid form of conduct”? I think that’s a very complex question. Valid? In what way? Based on which criteria? Does it really matter whether it’s valid or not? Do you want to a straight-out answer to that question, or a discussion?
Also not comfortable with the “pray” – not in the context of this board. :-\
I don’t think any culture accepts suicide as an honorable choice. I think it is only that the value for life is so great and explicit that to continue living when your life has ceased to be valuable is considered worthless and already being dead. At least this is the impression I get from people who do commit suicide. My problem with your preaching is always your INTENT. I can’t say that I respect every cultural expression but I know enough to not insist that my own cultural ideals are superior which is what you do EVERY TIME. I’m sure you’re very passionate about what you choose to preach about and I respect you for your attempts to change things in your world.
I must be on the same boat as you ahjummabunny.
Wanting to help is an honorable thing, but suicide is not a religious issue : It’s a different human matter for every separate individual. And it’s a social problem : The consequence of numerous causes, the end of the entangled chain.
A prayer can’t harm anyone Amg1, but i personally think the OT is not the place to preach any kind of religion ( or absence of ).
I have adopted Korea as a foster country, and i think everyone here want for its people to be happy and live in dignity. I wish one day i could repay koreans properly, on a fitting manner, for everything good they bring in this world and in my little life. But i’m almost completely sure if i want to do so, i will have to go there and put some dirt on my hands.
i just realized something…and i think it needs to be told… i had a little nervous breakdown over not fitting into my jeans anymore… i blame it entirely on the dryer.. anyways, i went shopping and do now own a beautiful pair of lee-min-ho-ish/cityhunteresque light pink/mauve colored pants.
Oh man I breathed really sharply as I tried to supress a laugh at that. I just had this image of Lee Min-ho in pink-ish pants. He’s so cute but what’s up with the pastel colors? I was watching a video by the Eat Your Kimchi folks on Youtube, and they make a big deal about Korean idol groups wearing pastel pants. Obviously the wearing of pastel pants is not limited to idol bands.
Anyway congratulations on the pants! I feel like pants shopping now, myself…
I was just thinking that I would love to buy a pair of colored pants, but these days they’re all in light, bright colors that do me and my big butt no favors. Glad you have the courage to rock the salmon pants! Now all you need is a trenchcoat and you’re all set to be a vigilante heroine
you know yel, thinking of it I don’t think those colors do any favors for anyone’s botty.
LOL truth! I’m waiting for dark colored pants to be in fashion. I would totally rock some dark red skinny pants
I want a pair of them too!!! Anyway congrats
I’m sure they look awesome!!
ah yeah I saw a dramafever advertisement about pastel jeans as the new spring thing. My large botty won’t look good in pastel, or it will look even larger so I won’t be trending in jeans this spring. Remember not to put the new pastel pants in the dryer- or eat less dukboki and bon chon chicken. Whichever!
I’m so glad I didn’t give up Dream High 2… and it’s funny because that’s what happened to me with season 1. I didn’t get what all the hooplah was about up until episode 5, in which I started to get invested (granted, this one had different problems than the 1st season, the main one being too many random storylines).
I had a really hard time liking the main girl but now I don’t find her as insufferable. I would have liked them to focus on the main guy for a bit, I like him but I feel like they didn’t give him enough backstory and screentime in the first episodes. Maybe I’m alone in this but I think Rian is hilarious. The flasback scenes of her and JB made me like JB more, his acting was surprisingly better than when he has the ._. face. Hope he keeps it up.
I’m really wondering what will happen with the main girl in the end though… I mean, she’s basically talentless and she’s not doing anything so far to change that (like get serious lessons with a vocal trainer or whatever)
@come2noona Nooooo I haven’t heard it yet, dang it. I totally stalk YGfamily website and I haven’t heard about it. I am so happy and proud of them for not giving up/ in to the viciousness of the netizens. I mean geesh can a person get a break.
@Jennifer I’m going there to teach ahhhh so excited. I can’t wait. And yes you have full permission to be in my suitcase but you will have to share that space with my sister cuz she wants to be smuggled as well.
@lena don’t freak out. It happens. Now take a breath. Step back and reevaluate what steps you need to do in order to fit your jeans again. Promise it wont be that hard to fit them again if you put your mind to it. Watch your portions, eat more veggies, drink 100% juice, eat more natural/organic foods, less neat and thirty minutes of cardio every day and VOILLA back to a more healthy you!!!
Hi everyone! Just wanted to say hi.
I don’t know why but I am so tired today. I’ve just been waking up and going back to sleep. It’s awful :l
I wish there was a gallery with all the cool sweaters from the dramas. I want to knit something in that style, but it is hard looking for captions and photos randomly. there were especially many cool knits in Best Love… there have been others but I cant remember when and where. but they were cool.
Start collecting them while you watch on Pininterest? Maybe there is a possibility of a ‘joint board’ on Pininterest (other contributing) and that way you might gather pictures more quickly?
not familiar with that [yet] but if I learned how it works I´d definately start some kind of gallery for future reference. I am pretty good at imitating the knit, so sometimes a picture is all I need. will look into that pin thing
I don’t pin a lot myself but it’s great fun (= addictive) looking at other people’s pins – you can basically pin images or video stills, which is great of things you want to remember visually. You know. Food to cook. Crafts to make. Eye candy.
I did check – didn’t get any hits for “korean drama sweaters” tag. So you better start that board!
That’s exactly what I need: A gallery with all the cool sweaters and other knits from dramas (and movies, tv, etc). I think one of my favorite sweaters (not from a drama, though) is the cardi that Cameron Diaz wore in “The Holiday”. I know there’s a pattern of it now on Ravelry but that was one of the first sweaters I thought, I’d love to make that! I’d also make one or some of the many hats that Eun-jae (Lee Shi Young) wears in Wild Romance. Very awesome hats. Maybe I’ll start one.
OMG..hahahhha, so funny to see someone talking about Ravelry on a KDrama website. My worlds, they collide.
Haha I’ve been waiting for mine to collide.
Besides, I don’t think there’s a k-drama group on Ravelry anyway…unless they started one since I last checked (a few months ago). Where else will I go? Soompi seems a bit die-hard for me to start talking about knitting. haha…
*laughing* I DARE YOU
Well I must have been looking at the wrong thing coz there is a Korean Drama Addicts group with 340 members on Rav that has been around since ’08! The icon is BOF. Time to join.
SO GONNA! I haven’t been active on there in a long long time and was never really in the groups. I’m LeftKnitting. Who are you? (Yes. I’m left-handed, the oldest child, and a Scorpio. Born in the year of the Tiger, and my element is Water. I’m bossy, creative, and highly sexed. Like any of you had any doubt.)
@Joanne
I’m twinstars. I don’t have many projects but I sweat other peoples projects all the freaking time. Brooklyntweed is my knitting crack. (Too look at, at least. I’ve only made one of his patterns.) Takes gorgeous pictures. You’ll know it’s me in the group because all the new posts are all me. haha…
BrooklynTweed! I was reading his blog back when he was working on his masters and hadn’t even gone into publishing mode! I made that circular blanket he did that’s really a big doily for someone for a wedding gift.
Who do you follow? I have SO MANY KNITTING blogs! I think Yarn Harlot was my first – have actually met her, and Moth Heaven, and a few others.
As far as knitting blogs I follow Yarn Harlot occasionally. I never met her but I saw her at Stitches East a few years ago, and I overheard her telling a table of other knitting bloggers her height. She said her “aura” was 5’4″ haha…
I used to follow Grumperina and cosmicpluto a lot but I haven’t been keeping up lately. I used to read Wendyknits a lot but I can only take so many pictures of her cat. She does have great projects, though. I also really liked gloriana/A Mingled Yarn, but I think she took down her blog. I find myself listening to knitting podcasts more. Stash and Burn is my favorite. The one girl from S&B, Jenny Check, is Korean. I wonder if she watches k-dramas.
I love love love everything about the clothing in Wild Romance. Makes me wish I could knit. But everyone on the show is styled so beautifully to match their character.
MY’s school boy sweater, tie and hooded bubble vest was the cutest darn thing in ep. 14 and the double sweater hood combo that EJ was wearing when MY picked her up for a ride in ep. 13…seriously cute!
movie nights: no time. no one to watch with. no money to rent or buy. no snacks.
sorry, I missed that topic introduction thing in the beginning
Anyone watched Chilling Romance yet? Is it good?
And where can i find it with subtitles so that i can watch my pretty Lee Min-Ki.
Please and Thank you!
Public call :
- Who has seen the first eps of Twelve men in a year, Syndrome and Korean Peninsula
( Hanbando ) ? What are your first impressions ?
- Who’s dying from waiting for the coming soon I need a Fairy ( i don’t watch sitcoms normally, but hey, it’s with Park Min Woo aka Ba Wool ) ? Also Ordinary Love, the drama special with Yeon Woo Jin : The little bro noona killer from Ojakgyo.
I have seen part of the first episode of 12 Men in a Year and I think it looks like fun. And God I hope that boyfriend is not who she ends up with. No interest in Hanbando. Which one is Syndrome? I am looking forward to I Need a Fairy. And Rooftop Prince.
Syndrome is that new ” revolutionary” drama taking place in a neurosurgery service Brain siamese twin.
If the Twelve Men boyfriend is a cheater à la I Need Romance style, i certainly will not root for him !
You know where I can watch that with English subs? I’ve found a few sites that have it without subs, but none with.
Twelve Men in a Year, I meant.
Nope I watched it raw on Ionair, sorry.
I didn’t think he was a cheater, at least not what I saw…I thought he was gay.
I watch Korean Peninsula on dramafever. However, once it is out on dramafever, it is generally available on kimchidramas.net on the same day and dramacrazy the day after.
I am still reserving judgement on it. I quite like it so far otherwise I would have dropped it.
I will probably watch Syndrome once drama is completed and marathon it.
I am looking forward to Rooftop Prince.
I discovered a hidden talent a couple of days ago. I know the exact episode of kissing scenes in the dramas that I’ve watched. Even the dramas that I hated (see: Lie to Me).
Moral of this story: I need to start dating again -_-
^sigh^ I think that’s the moral of my life too…
But I think I’ve been ruined by K dramas into having too high expectations… plus the fact that my super power is being invisible to guys and I’ve got a doomed combination!!
Anyhow… best of luck to us both!!
You know what? I have been watching kdramas for more than three years and I didn’t look away when there were handsome and lovable guys on screen (my understatement of the day) BUT recently I ran into a friend from high school. He’s just as ugly as me, but I found myself crushing on him just as if he were a hottie. I will never understand myself.
Leaf, is it the doomed combination described in Petty Romance? LOL
I think it is not that bad. You choose precisely, to whom you’re visible, without being bothered by idiots and pervs.
Heh nice way of putting it
I’ll remember that!!
lol everyone keeps on telling me that. They think I’m super obsessed w/ Kdramas and that I won’t date anyone cuz I can’t find anyone who looks like the guys on tv in real life.
I’m like that is so not true! Maybe… they have to at least be a little cute! but sadly it’s so much harder to find cute Asian guys than cute American/Caucasian guys…
Unless that’s just because I’ve been around Americans my whole life and that just alters one’s perspective.
But really… I’m not THAT addicted to Kdramas X)
The news of the recent days for me is hands down Lee Jun Ki’s comeback from the army. I am really looking forward to seeing him on the screen. Preferably in a rom-com series. No need for a shower scene, though
.
As for my weekly drama fix, I am mourning the lost potential of Color Of Woman. It started off so nicely and broke down in the middle. It is bitter to be disappointed by a drama, but please, being disappointed by both JaeHee and Yoon So Yi? World is cruel indeed.
Fermentation Family is such a comfort watch – with a mellow pace, lovable characters and landscapes. Even the villains were not cut of a cardboard. My precious
And last but not least: History of the Salaryman. Gosh, I was reluctant because of the corporate setting, super reluctant because of Jung Ryeo Won – but I love her now. I just wonder whether she really curses – I mean can anyone read her lips and identify the word she utters? just a technical little thing, but makes me curious?
I agree about Color of Woman. It started out fairly well, but I started to hate Jae Hee’s character, Jun Su — and you know what? So Ra ends up with him at the end! She really needed to end up with her friend Chan Jin. That was a waste. It totally lost steam in the middle.
Chan Jin was the best friend boyfriend ever. And she was so comfortable with him. Jun Su was kind of a crush. But to spend quality time and cuddling Chan Jin had the upper hand. Did you see that MV on YT ?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GiB9fH3ivqM
It puts together all the cute scenes i want to remember from that drama.
Cute video! I wish they ended up together. There were just so many misunderstandings between So Ra and Jun Su, and he never seemed to want to clear them up. Plus he had daddy issues which he also was kinda passive about. Seriously, it took them how many years to have their first kiss??
The video is totally cute. And Chan Jin was too cute for me. I am always for in some bickering and teasing. For me the optimal ending would be Sora with someone else. And the two guys should just keep living together
Well, i love jerks AND cute guys. Yin and Yang. Balanced nutrition etc…
Both guys together ? OK, but with me between them to be sure nothing funny happens.
I love how you called F-Fam “my precious”. Mine too. Hell, episode 21 and 22 are up and I’m not going to wait. Heading off to watch it right now. It’s been said before, but I love how when people find out about things, they are willing to confront others about it. They either reveal in the current episode or the following episode. People are willing to ask questions, and people are willing to answer if it makes sense that it’s something to be revealed. No agonizing over something for episodes on end. Yay for breath of freh air dramas like these. X)
OT! There are already 546 comments and I JUST got here.
So this weekend my band is going crazy. We had a performance at an Art Museum, today we were on local NBC and Sunday we’re rockin’ an arts festival! Tomorrow I’m judging an elementary school cello competition and gigging. I haven’t had 12 hours days since graduate school and they hit this week…4 days in a row!!!!
Stay tuned for Padam Padam ep 9 recap…me and Deeno went really crazy with our comments this week…:D It should be a fun read! It’ll be out sometime tonight…and the only time I’ll blog this weekend…
I’m suffering SEVERE K-drama withdrawal and listening to Kim Bum-soo tracks until my ipod wears out. I haven’t watched for like…2 whole days. *GASP*
I’m also having trouble making a MAJOR decision in my life. I want to move across the country but it affects my band, my income, starting over in EVERYTHING, auditioning for things all over again…but I really really really really really love Colorado. It would be starting from ground zero in my career here in Miami…but…it’s a tough decision, especially as my band is finally getting off the ground here.
Anywho, how is everyone? I’m about to go delve into the fray known as Friday OT….wish me luck…or pray for me…
Hi Raine! *waves* I was wondering where you were. And Ricky. And Jawa (though I’m assuming she’s too busy still).
Maybe do a list of pro’s and con’s for your major life decision? Sometimes that can help immensely.
How quickly do you have to decide? Is there a specific motivation to move right now or could it wait?
Well, if I move, I need to sign a lease by May cause I’d move in with my sister. The list keeps growing. I think fear is my biggest road block right now. I need to get past the ‘irrational emotional’ involvement and really try to see it clearly.
Last weekend was my birthday so I was so busy and then it continued into the week! (I posted my presents on my bloggggg. Korean cookbook and a beautiful charm bracelet. The family went allll out!)
Raine, have no fear.Make a decision and never stop believing that that was the best decision. You can do whatever you want.Don’t let fear hold you back.
Fighting!:)
I played in my band yesterday and I’m a total music high right now…how to choose when the good stuff about Miami keeps cropping up?
Well… me being me I would naturally move… however I can easily understand why this is a difficult dicision…
One tip I’ve heard (I’ve never had to use it though) is to flip a coin. The response the coin gives you will make you think of your first reaction to it and might help…
As I’ve said, I’ve never used this… but it sounded good to me so it might help….
Leaf – gut reactions are something I rely heavily on. My BFF says i light up when I talk about Colorado. Imma try this coin thing…
Hello Raine ! Waiting kindly for the padam recap. You and Deeno are doing a great job, and it’s utterly entertaining to read your dialogues.
. But that’s not an excuse to increase the dose on next injection.
2 days without dramas.
The dialogues on this next one are CRAZY. I’m trying to reinvent the format to make it clearer. Hehe. It’s soooo fun. Recapping in pairs is the most awesomest evar!
Sometimes when I can’t decide…I don’t decide.
The answer will come to you, because the question is still there, working away quietly behind the scenes.
If the reason you struggle is only fear of the hard work, though…I say that you’re young and single and now is the time.
I don’t fear hard work. I fear…disappointing people I think, which is silly in the end. But the fact is that I feel it and the emotion is blocking me. I fear to disappoint and make trouble for the band, for my students.
I’m used to starting over…I usually make life decisions on a whim: graduate school, traveling to Europe, to Israel, being a cellist over a researcher. I’ve thrown down my life so many times and started over, I’m wondering if I should do it again. But it’s rather obvious I’m searching for something. Question is…what? I seriously can’t wait to get over this phase of my life, but at the same time, I love the freedom!
I totally understand what you mean. Mine of course are my parents… I really don’t care what other people think, but since we’re Asian, they of course do and it inevitably leads to “caring” what other people think if that makes sense.
But there’s so much I want to do with my life and my parents aren’t really the ones who’ll accept that type of freedom. It’s like they have one goal for me and that’s to get a job at a big company, get married, and that’s it.
Starting over might lead you to something wonderful and/or unexpected so I say go for it if you truly want to move and do it! They’ll respect your decision and if you’re still young and have people supporting you, what’s wrong with having that freedom? Few people actually get it!
And Colorado’s amazing with all the mountains and snow, I want to ski there soooo bad!
Jennifer,
I totally get you! I had no choice but to do well and get good grades in school. (I have a Jewish mother…a special breed)
I really want that freedom, especially after the way you wrote about it.
Colorado is SUPER SUPER SUPER SUPER amazing. And my two best friends are out there…best friends like FAMILY. And my baby sister who could be my twin.
It was a lot of fun writing it this week. Crazy is becoming a norm for us.
Yeah, Deeno, you can partially thank Wild Romance for the crazy. Great recap for ep 14, btw.
Wild Romance helps make me crazier. It’s so much fun. The dark humor keeps slipping into my other writing.
We crazy! Kewbie did you get to read the recap? Some WR references were snuck in there…
I also have a favor to ask.
I’m writing out the music for the What’s Up? duet between Tae-yi and Byung-gun (With You, I believe it’s called), but I need the lyrics. Is there anyone who can write them down (in hangul is fine, I can put them in romanji). I’ll make it available to anyone who wants to play it!
I’m actually planning on using it for K-drama tunes cello style…but that’ll take a bit longer.
Here’s the link:

Kamsahamnida mina-san! (Yes, mixing languages…)
I am so in love with Shut Up: Flower Boy Band. It’s brilliant! I loved the ending of episode 6… SO CUTE! <3
Finished Padam earlier this week which was pretty good. The ending was a bit meh though…
Speaking of meh, I'm watching Bachelors Vegetable Store. I think it's nearing the end (thank God).
I need to catch up on Dream High 2! I'm liking it a lot more than Dream High because the tone of the show is totally different. It's a lot less serious and a lot more silly; makes for good light entertainment imo.
I've started watching Operation Proposal, which is promising so far. I'm only one episode in though so I don't have much I comment on.
