Good morning, OTers!
Wait….what? I’m first?
Everyone sleeping in today?
Hellooo? **looks around in confusion**
I think they all had a late night reading up on SSH and his various…umm…talents and ummm… upcoming projects and all that important stuff.
psh!
So, instead of suffering from a hangover, it’s an ‘abs-over’?It would account for the cyber grogginess…
Cynthia! you rock! how many more abs related words are going to be coined up on DB? Let’s see we already have absworthy, absismal and now abs-over.
I’m sure they were more though…
Park Shi Hoo?
Abstastic!!
I’ve got one! I’ve got one! *tilting excitedly*
Abscent makes the heart grow fonder. *beaming*
@joanne,
hmm maybe I do mean park shi hoo.
PARK SHI HOOOOO! I always do that to my best friend whenever she types pssshhhh
He’s abstastic. I will always remember that comment that “YY” made about the spinoff story of PSH’s horse who had to go into retirement after carrying PSH, a well fed heroine and PSH’s abs.
I did that specifically in honor of you, Raine.
Unni gets an awesome PSH high five!!!!
Hi Cynthia,
And yes, you are first! isn’t that great
Congratulations!!!
Well, thankyouverymuch (think Elvis voice) – but truly had nothing to do with scoring #1.
Maybe I should buy a Lotto ticket today?!
I don’t know about the Lotto ticket for today (I wouldn’t want to be held responsible if you don’t win and I wouldn’t want to jinx it either). I would say however that I LOVE your Elvis voice. Did you do the “shaking of the legs too?”
He was really more of a ‘hips swivel’ thing…
Ok, that:-)
So did you do it, as you said “thankyouverymuch”. I have to say that his legs shook as he did his hips thingy. Maybe I remember the legs more, for some reason…
good mooornninnngggg Ms. Cynthia!
MOOOOOORNING!
hi rainey!
Mooooorning Raine !
Hey my loves, how are you? I’m sitting in the hospital waiting for the nurses to prep my mom. Dad’s in there and I’m the lucky one in the waiting room…
Hahaha! Most people write FIRST! But not you! You rock! *waves*
I agree… it’s really lame claiming first
LOL
*coughcough*
Instead of first we should claim dibs on like:
1) THT (that recent posting session was even commented on by JB and GF. WHY was I working when that was going on????)
2) Park Shi-hoo
3) General MINE-ing of men (and ladies. Yoo In-ah for Ricky)
We already do that
Rain is mine.
Just putting it out there again, to be ABS-solutely clear.
*cough cough*
so true, reaaaaaally lame…….
and yet there has been a time when you’ve been in the #1 slot claiming “first!:D” or something of the like
Oh really???? I never knew I did that before!!!
Seriously my memory must be even worse than I though -_-
Good Morning Cynthia!
Morning! Everyone woke up fast! Musta been my fishwife yelling… I know my dulcet tones always irritated the heck out of my teen child. But then again, no one told him to sleep till noon, either!
Have a lovely day! ^^
Good morning!!! Well, it might be afternoon for you now, but anywho…
We should give out awards for firsts! hahaha…. but then maybe Leaf will hog them all.
I promise I won’t…
[shouldering Leaf outta da way]
..
..
..
[then stopping to hug her]
Did you see how well I did today!!! I wasn’t anywhere near first!!!!
^hugs back^ Hey Shuk Unni!!! Your stories great!!! <3
Leaf! How’s my favorite cuckoocloudlander!!
—
Anybody guessing who the mysterious figure in the Nice airport is?
Fine thanks
But nothing particularly interesting ever happens in my life ^sigh^
Hope you have a great week!!! (with lots of time to write your story!!!)
<3
hehehe
Good evening!
You beat out the competition today!
[stretch] Hola / Hello / Aloha / Konnichi wa / Bonjour/ Yo!
Got off work at this morning at 7am, went straight to my parent’s house and did yardwork until about 15 min ago (1:45 EST). Dog tired and desperate for a nap before tonight’s 12-hour shift at the rescue squad.
I hope everyone is having a good week!
My recent viewing:
- I marathoned TWDrama Summer’s Desire, KDrama Bad Couple, and TDrama Ngao Hua Jai. I hope to finish the last three episodes of OB at duty tonight. After OB, I intend to catch up on SUFBB.
- I also watched a Malaysian film, Pisau Cuker, which means “razor” and is a term for a gold digger. I found it on ionair.tv. It’s about two women on a cruise ship looking for a sugar daddy. Kinda cute in a low-key way, but it helps me assimilate the culture a bit more. Plus, I imagine Ricky probably sounds like this! Plus the lead actress curses with brand names “Oh my Dior!” lol
Oh, and tonight’s meatless dinner is lime shrimp with mango salsa over coconut rice.
Shuk, how was Summer’s Desire?
Yunno, I still think Peter Ho needs rhinoplasty…lol
***
I enjoyed it! He still does the jut-the-lower-jaw action occasionally, but his character is engaging. Along with the second lead, I thought it had some steamy overtones. Not a lot of absaction, but I’d recommend it.
Oh noesss. He’s perfect as is. l’m already fighty off too many fangirls throwing panties and themselves at him. If he fixes anything else then fangirls will multiply. Yeah, I’m selfish like that.
Sent via my G☆Note
I don’t mind the nose, it keeps him from being too pretty!
I’m STILL laughing at myself over the fact that I thought he was some little nobody I found all for myself, because he wasn’t really mentioned in the things I saw about Sophie’s Revenge before I watched it.
Leave it to me to prove my discerning taste by ‘discovering’ one of Taiwan’s biggest stars…
Speaking of Ionair….for those interested, Silenced is now available there as a single episode, with Eng subs
I just downloaded it and I’m hoping to devour it sometime next week along with Ahjussi again so I can review it.
I was just saying I could actually watch that again.
Raine, weren’t we suppose to watch Silence together?
Hey / Konnichiwa!
Whoa, that’s alot of stuff. All I did was marathon the twdrama Bump Off Lover and catch up on SUFBB. I’m also starting History of the Salaryman to see if it’s as Crazy Awesome as everyone says it is.
Your dinner sounds really yummy! Where can I find the recipe?
I made it up. Coconut milk in place of water in the rice cooker; I soaked the shrimp in lime juice and grilled them in the toaster oven. Mango salsa from a supermarket poured over the rice.
And was the drama any good?
I posted about it below. Basically, I found it flawed but enjoyable, and I kept on wishing Korea would remake it with better production values as I watched.
Can you please share the recipe for your diner? It sounds like something I could try to make
Iv! Bonjeour (that’s how I pronounce it)
I’m really just a simple child – I answered this one string up. No real magical eating skill, just lazy experimentation.
I have a bit of lent envy.
LOL ahjbun! Don’t be envious; at some point in time I will succumb to Long John Silvers!
My comment absolutely does not fit in this thread but it’s Open Thread Friday and this song has been in my head all freaking day. Enjoy anyway.
http://youtu.be/d8kCTPPwfpM
Happy Friday and happy weekend everyone~
To you too Angel!
Hello! Happy friday every one. I’m enjoying OP a lot nowadays.
Also, I’m strangely interested in time travelling jins. I wonder why? It’s usually not my type of kdrama.
do you really wonder why? really?
Me too! *shrieking* I LOVEEEEEEE time travel dramas! I discovered how much I love them 24 hrs ago, how amazing is that!
We are going to have SO.MUCH.FUN. talking about this. Even if it sucks, I hope JB + GF recap just because they want to see what we’ll say in the comments!
YES! That’ll be sooooo much fuuuuuunn!
hmm a time traveling jin ot/recap thing sounds interesting. But where is the song seung hon love coming from, where did he steal your hearts? I only saw him in as kim haneul’s annoying boyfriend in happy together. Maybe it was kim haneul that annoyed me?
My Princess. Autumn in My Heart. Summer Scent was irritating. He Was Cool. East of Eden. Any photo ever taken of him since the beginning of time.
For me, My Princess.
It was light and sweet and he wore the best clothes.
Everything else was painful for me.
Autumn in My Heart I watched till the bitter end, but wanted to dig out my heart and stomp on it so I would feel BETTER.
There were 5 mins total of happiness in that entire drama.
Fate and East of Eden -also painful.
yes Jomo but sad pretty man, me likey.
HA HA HA.
I think more than one person had that reaction
Hello buddies ! How is everyone doing ?
I love the music track of that OT !
Imma listen when I get home and we can start a discussion. I’d like to do that every OT, discuss the music that JB puts up!
I hear you. I don’t love everything JB puts up, but I like nearly all of it. My dramabeans OST folder is one of my favorites overall. I can literally listen to it for days at a time.
hello comrade!
Jumma, you make me think of that gambling ad on the radio. Have you heard it?
Happy OT Friday!!
I guess everybody is in the other thread loving SSH…..
I saw that…I had to join in too…
Happy Friday! I watched both seasons of JIN. And am looking forward to the upcoming korea ver though i wont set my expectations high. Happy the weeked is here!
What did you think of the ending? I thought it was a moving and bittersweet ending as I really wanted Saki and Jin to be together but it wasn’t meant to be. The bromance between Jin and Ryoma was epic ‘ You are my best friend…. my worst friend… and my hero.’
I really have to get the DVD of this.
I am also trying not set my expectations high for the Lorean version as it can never top the J-drama.
Happy weekend everyone. I had a wonderful week and The moon that embraces the sun just exceeded my expectations.
However, harsh reality has kicked in. No OB
I thought I would definitely be gobbling and drooling over moon but I’m not at all. It’s on my list but all I’m watching is fermentation family and salaryman. Oh I started Tazza but there’s something so unsettling about that show.
I’m tempted to start FF and Salaryman more than MoonSun even though I want to see my Soo-hyun. I’m still really disappointed over WR
I recommended you watch FF. It’s a great show(I don’t say that often). You won’t be disappointed!
They finished airing the last episode already but I’m waiting for the sub to come out. ^^
I thought WR was cute but there wasn’t much romance between the two leads. Kinda sad but it sure was a wacky drama. haha!
Zgz unni suggested FF too. I think I’m gonna start on it.
By the way, I met Zgznoona and she just the most adorable delightful person!
How many total episodes are there of FF? I am waiting for that last batch to be subbed on dramafever.
Awsome! just got done watching the last episode–24. (sigh) Sad that it’s the end.
I really like FF alot–it’s one of my favorite dramas. It’s not fast pace or slow but just right. It hits you in just about all the right places—love, life, family, and hope. You’ll laugh with them, cry with them, smile with them, and have hope with them.
This is definitely one drama that if you haven’t checked it out yet, you should give it try.
@Raine: you’re pretty awesome too. And I love your band
Raine puts so much feeling when she plays the cello. One can tell she’s having a great time playing
Anyone here who is a follower of Wild Romance?
What do you guys think of the ending?
I love all the characters and they act really well..but there is definitely lack of romance between the two leads. Their bickering relationship and their interactions are so cute and fun to watch, but i wish that there are more romantic moments between them. And I actually love Robotic Kim-Kim couple more than the main one! Hahaha.. Anyway, happy friday everyone! =)
Me too! The robot couple stole the finale for me. I think the leads had just fine chemistry but it was all about the stupid stalker and not enough about them.
I feel the same way too. At times, I actually look forward to their scenes and their development rather than EJ-MY. And Dong Ah is totally my bias, super love her in What’s Up!
I love Im Joo-eun too! I even started watching her older work Hon after seeing her in Wild Romance.
She’s kind of different from the typical Korean actress with the sweet voice and long tresses. A fresh breath of air to me…
Loved Hon. Check her out in What’s Up.
Yes : She’s not the Boyish girl or the Fashionista. And she’s a fabulous actress.
I know, she was so fabulous right from the beginning.
I’m scared to watch Hon…but JoAnne nni told me it was good. And whenever she does that…I end up watching things…
How adorable was Dong-ah showing up in the hanbok. I thought he was going to throw down on the table when he was tying her back up!
Hon was really good and I LOVED where they went with it.
And not to mention that the ahnjumma’s reason for stalking MY doesnt seem to be substantial enough.. It just seems to be really lame..
Yes it is! Which makes the last two episodes really flat. Since we already knew it was her, what was left for the viewers were the reasons and motivations behind her actions…. which was totally not original nor convincing…
Herein, we see the truth: Stalking is really lame.
Then freaking out, murdering people and being all weird with Münchausen syndrome by proxy really makes the stalker even creepier (and lamer). This behavior rarely gets your guy to love you, remember ladies and gentleman.
Seriously! I couldn’t believe how many times they kept going back to her sitting in the cell and repeating the line ‘When a princess falls in love it’s a fairy tale, but when a witch falls in love, it’s a curse.’ The first time I heard it, I thought it was cool, but by the third time I felt as if I were the cursed one.
They totally dropped the ball with that one. Wasting all that time on her old crazy behind, when they could have been showing MY-EJ going on a date, doing cute stuff
They could’ve made the stalker thing interesting. But it wasn’t. If she was just plain ol’ crazy without all that backstory, it woulda been more interesting. Also, the reaction to her was so lame. Tears and thats it?
Did you guys read MadDino’s suggested endings? I agree with those.
Develop the couple a bit in the end and send them down the road.
I agree with my suggested ending. And the lameness of Ajumma. Why didn’t they go all out with the craziness?
I thought that kinda made it more realistic. Frankly, the reasons why real life people stalk are usually that mundane…it’s all in their heads ^^;;
I left my last impressions about WR at Maddino’s place. Definitely didn’t like the end. And i shipped the Kim Kim couple too.
Now i’m excited about all the ( hopefully ) good dramas that are about to start. Dramaland never sleeps and we must keep the pace.
Hahaha..Yup! my friends find it amusing that I spend so much time watching dramas! And then I introduced Vampire Prosecutor as a starter for them ( they don’t really watch K-Dramas) and now they are hooked! Looks like I have to sleep less this year, need to juggle between dramas and studies.. Tight schedules! Hehe.. =)
My only regret is……. Why don’t I get to see Manager Kim in a robotic suit doing a robotic dance??!!
Oh well…. at least Dong-ah got all decked out in a hanbok to fulfill Manager Kim’s fantasies. I’d NOT have forgiven the writer otherwise…
That was so funny, how robot pulls over to hear her fantasy and then, flop you she he’s face of frustration when it’s just the robot armor
I really adored robot boy – mostly because of that little ‘knowing’ half-smile of his – and that translates [to me] that he’s one bad boy in bed. And that is where it counts, no?!
LOL
Seriously… I couldn’t agree more
I’m glad you went there first. I totally expected him to drag her out of that coffee shop the minute she untied that bow *growl*
Yep. I’m a sucker for bad boys. OK, i didn’t want to sound creepy with that one.
How true. Any guy who pulls over to the side of the road just to give undivided attention to your latest fantasy, is the guy you want in your bed.
The loud party boys who are busy entertaining their buddies while wearing a dual beer-can hat won’t make you half as happy as the guy who is quietly observing you from across the room – concentrated thought can translate into concentrated actions. Know what I mean?
Omo! I love your thoughts on the robot boy! I was like hyperventilating everytime I thought he’s going to do sth with Dong Ah..Hahaha
Seriously, those secret smiles were so hot. You know the lyrics “I like a lady in the streets and a freak in the bed”? That’s how I think of him. He needs SOMEPLACE to unwind…pun intended.
Hah! That’s exactly what Rain (Bi) said about his ‘ideal’ woman! Lady by day – wild woman at night!
Morning, M!
I was okay with the WR ending – I mean, it wasn’t Shakespeare but it tied up the loose threads.
Best line ever: GG Jessica pretending amnesia and asking Wookie “Should I stop painting and just act?”
How many of us yelled “NOOOOO!!” at the screen?!
Seriously, girl cannot act. At all.
That amnesia bit was really cute though. I will give them that.
Hahahaha. I had the same reaction. She looked particularly scary in the last scene she was in, she climbed into the taxi and glanced up…and I shuddered. I think there were nightmares.
The amnesia was kinda cute. They needed to poke fun at themselves.
I know – that taxi scene was downright creepy. It was almost like she was autistic.
Hahaha… Oh yes i was yelling, No Way.
Please you can paint all you want.
I was really annoyed of her character. Even the way she walks…
Just watched WR. I thought I was the only who noticed how annoying she walks. LOL.
I was actually fine with it. They spent a little bit too much time on the stalker ahjumma but I think the main OTP had a lot of screen time together in that finale (maybe not in the romantic way that most of us was hoping for … but still) and of course, robotic/nerdy OTP stole the show. The only thing I really wanted (and did not get) was when she introduced him to her father/brother as her boyfriend… that would have been hilarious (and they could have cut ahjumma’s screen time in half and accommodated it). I totally loved how she resolved her problem with who to back for the game.
I agree with you, Hillary. I felt the characters were true to their characters, but they actually repeated the same thing with the ajumma three times in the same episode. Why show? I did like the slap stick interactions throughout the show between the OTP (and KimKim was splendid). I figured we’d only get the kiss at the end when the episode prevented the kiss three times (hilariously). I enjoyed watching them become friends more than others-which made me accept the dancing quality of the romance, versus something more on the nose. The neatly tied box of loose threads was very satisfying, plus, the ending was adorable.
IzOcha – I do like the development of friendship in a romantic relationship rather than just instant chemistry that becomes the basis for the entire romantic portion of a drama. Goood point!
I totally agree, I thought the way their relationship developed was great, and I really liked the fact that she became someone important in his life that he couldn’t do without (i.e. when she quit being his bodyguard) even before he realized any romantic feelings for her.
I agree with you. The development of their relationship was different than what is normally seen and because of that , I didn’t really have any issues with the lack of romance in the finale or in their relationship in general. Their relationship was gradual. It was enemies becoming friends becoming lovers told in a very natural way. Of course more cute with the OTP is always appreciated but I wasn’t disappointed.
+1
Oh, I thoroughly enjoyed WR. I loved that they had a relationship based in happiness and spontaneous rejoicing instead of some deep wound healing heart wrenching fate. I like those too, but I’m a bit burned out with them atm. My whole family caught a horrible high fever respiratory flu that lasted all Feb, so there was that coming into play in my drama preferences. WR provided the cheerfulness boost we needed I guess. I’d like more shows where the couple breaks out in laughter when they could get caught up in drawn out couple trouble instead.
True. One of my favorite things about WR was when they would both burst out laughing at something – her with that snorty laugh and his guffaw – they were both such idiots I had to laugh listening to them.
Good morning fellow OT peeps! Hope you are all well today.
I actually just finished watching episode 16, and I was reading some comments about it on another blog. I actually liked the ending, although I wish the show didn’t have the word “romance” in the title. I was expecting more romance because of that. I think if it was marketed as a mystery involving a baseball player and his bodyguard who he eventually falls in love with, I think that would work a bit better. You’re right, though, I would have liked to see more romance between Eun-jae and Mu-yeol. Heck, I admit it, I wanted a bed scene or at least the motion of mad rolling around in the hay. Still, I enjoyed it over all and would watch it again. I did love Robot Kim and Dong-ah’s scene in the last episode with the hanbok, and her telling Robot her fantasy about him. Hilarious! I will miss those two, as well as EJ and MY. Oh, and no one really said it anywhere else, but I will miss EJ’s father and brother. Dad is hilarious and brother is such a cutie patootie.
Liked the ending too. I really don’t like too much angst in my drama ( reason I dropped Scent of a woman) . It was a fun ending and realistic as normal people who are in love.
Ah, that reminds me. The mom’s story seems unresolved to me. I know Eunjae gave her blessing, but shouldn’t we see an explanation of why mom left and why mom wanted to come back? It’s like the writers felt it wasn’t important enough to tell in which case WHY INCLUDE IT AT ALL DUMBOS! Gr. I’ll stop here. I’ve ranted enough about Wild Romance today. X/
Yup, i agree with you. Many things seem to be left unresolved. Some of you have mentioned them. The writers focused too much on the stalker, which I dont really mind at first ’cause I thought the story behind the stalker will be something shocking and jaw-dropping. But at the end of it, I was like, ‘Huh? That was it?”
I agree about adding ‘Romance’ to the title. I loved the show, but I started watching it because I love romantic comedies. The lack of romance was a little jarring, especially since the little bit of romance that we did have came from Jessica, who’s horrible acting only made me long for more scenes with the OTP. I guess that can be seen as a blessing of sorts because if she had actually been a useful character, then I would have shipped her and MY and then become disappointed when it didn’t work out in the end.
I actually liked the main couple AND the Robot couple. I liked the Muyeol liked Eunjae for Eunjae and I did find they had chemistry. Well, before they dated when Eunjae liked Muyeol, and than Muyeol started liking Eunjae, there was chemistry. Afterwards, when they were dating, it was a comfortable type of chemistry, and I can dig that.
What bothered me is how some things was pretty much dropped from the plot. In Jong Hee’s case, how come she never found out about Sooyoung’s miscarriage? Did she even find out? I felt the one plot point that could’ve motivated Jonghee’s character to grow and become less selfish/childish was ignored when it came to her. It’s like the drama is telling us that if you’re pretty, talented and weak, than everyone will step up to protect you so please feel free to continue being a spoiled brat. *facepalm* I also found the pool scene unrealistic. Seriously Jonghee? You could’ve struggled. Are you that pathetic? And as if it wasn’t bad enough, when she was supposed to look scared, but it seemed more like someone who was constipated was trying to look pretty while taking a dump. GR! What the hell? This was your moment to shine and you missed it.
I got mad that Eunjae seemed to have gotten weaker and weaker near the end. How can a lethal weapon like Eunjae get beaten up by high school kids? How can her fight with Dongsoo seem so lame? What happened to the girl that kicked Muyeol’s butt in episode 4? We all knew she was holding back with Muyeol, so why not go all out now? Even worse, how could Eunjae just let the Housekeeper/stalker just put that bag over her head in the pool scene without struggling a little? We can make excuses that she didn’t want to hurt the high school kids or Dongsoo, or that she didn’t want to struggle for Jonghee’s case, but really? That just leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.
Other than that, I think I enjoyed this ride, minus annoying ex-girlfriend who was only useful in pushing our main leads together, but I find we could’ve done without. I am happy with the main pairing and the robot pairing. I’m happy for the married pairing, but wish the wife had some closure by confronting main lead’s annoying ex-girlfriend. Overall, I can find a lot to love about the show that outdoes any of the bad. X)
Ani, you totally hit everything dead on. I complain and complain, but at the end of the day, I was on viki’s page waiting for subs to come out…I must’ve enjoyed SOMETHING. LOL
Man, as annoyed as I’d be, I’d be on Viki as soon as I come home from work to watch Wild Romance. It’s because there were characters I loved enough and were acted well that I was WILLING to stay. I stuck around because I wanted these characters to find a happy ending. I got invested and loved the quirkiness and therefore can only deduce that for the last couple of weeks I was a Wild Romance addict. Well, WR and F-Fam. XD
The robots are the best,They should have their own show like a spin off!
Totally agree! At first, I thought I’m probably one of the few people who are really excited about the robots, but glad that I’m not alone! =D
Nope, there is a LOT of robot love going on. Their first kiss KILLED me. It’s the first time I thought a kiss was sweet and romantic….but cracked up the entire time I watched it, too.
i loved the robot pairing as well. man, the growth of their relationship was even faster than that of the main leads. LOL. my fave scene of them was when dong ah was crying and the couple were having their own moment while reporter go was just there watching awkwardly. from one side of the room, it was sweet, while the other side was just hilarious! XD
I watched episode 16 yesterday. I really enjoyed Wild Romance. As many of you have said, there wasnt enough romance between Eun-Jae and Moo-Yeo. That would make the drama better (and less time for the stalker lady) but I liked it the way it was. They definitely had the chemestry, the first episodes were really funny. When Jong-Hee appeared I rolled my eyes (seriously? the ex girl-friend?) but at the end I was ok with it.
The characters had somenthing I liked: Dong-Soo, the reporter, her dad and brother (They were so funny and cute! I still laugh when I remember that she didnt bring anything from Japan, her dad said they should teach that in school and her brother said “Should I sue the school?”), Kevin, even the actress.
Usually I like the male lead more than the female lead. I liked both this time but I loved Eun-Jae. She reminds me of the girl in Paradise Ranch (all the faces that she made) I couldnt stand the girl from Paradise Ranch but I loved Eun-Jae (the way she laughs! hehe). In episode 16 when she was remembering the words from the ahjumma and she suddenly screams “Shut up!” hahah i loved that. The actress is really pretty and the short straight hair framed her face.
But of course, Dong Ah and Manager Kim…THE BEST. I love them. One of my favorites couples of all the dramas I have watched. Every single interaction. (When Dong Ah is crying and Manager Kim hugs her and reporter Go said “Oh” hahaha. That scene was awesome, they were in their moment and the reporter felt totally awkward)They should have stole time from the ahjumma and gave it to the three couples.
I think it deserved better ratings, but Moon/Sun is strong. Some wednesdays and Thursdays I was looking forward to the new episode of Wild Romance than for the episode of the Moon/Sun (I have to watch episode 15 and 16, They look very good).
But at the end, good drama. Enjoyable. Its not a 10 but its not a 5.
Yup, Moon-Sun was getting a little slow especially in Episodes12 and 13 ( I was a little disappointed) but the show manages to pick up and now I’m really looking forward to it again.
On a random note, I really miss the child actors and actresses! They are so awesome and their performances were way beyond my expectations..
I wanted to ask if the PMY intended to save Gullhead then why was he shocked to see her face? Or was he actually amazed that it was her he saved?
I love this show and I can totally forgive the lack of back story on some of the plots. To me, attemping to explain everything will end up distracting the main story. I love the baseball theme and I think the story was well written with strong performances from the actors.
The scene where Dong Ah cried in the restaurant, the reporter’s reaction was priceless…and I thought he was awkward because he thought Dong Ah was interested in him……
And the award winning performance of starstruck Eun Jae at the Seagull fan-signing event..I can watch that over and over again!
Some said OTP didn’t have enough chemistry – I feel it’s there since Ep 1 when they flare up at each other and the Robot couple, haha, they should have a spin off like some said above.
Robot couple were my fave.
Main couple I liked, but too . much . Jessica.
They could have written it better, including the ending. The basic premise was good, they had some characters that were easy to love BUT they didn’t make the most of it, and got distracted by famous people and the ajumma who wasn’t particularly interesting.
Hi there 8siupo and fellow WR Watchers!
8siupo I agree with you about the leading couple.
I totally got into the second leads too.
Look forward to catching the final once it’s subbed:)
Hello OTers!
My mom is having surgery today! I’m going to take her in just 1/2 hour! We’re a little nervous…
Speaking of…how’s Shel? SHELLLLLLL!!!!
What’s the scooby doo on the group movie? I have my Korean cookbook ready for WHENEVER it is.
K-drama: I’ve caught up on SUFBB and I really wasn’t into the first 2 episodes but then I got really into it after. I haven’t seen Sung Joon so awesome in anything before.
******WR sorta spoiler********
OMG that ending was soooo cookie cutter, bow tied and cop out! The show was so addicting but the imo’s excuses for being a stalker and then Moo-yul’s reactions were so annoying! At least EJ’s cuteness came back in the end. I dunno…even when it was rolling downhill it was so addictive but I totally deflated. Am I alone in this?
********end spoiler********
MadDino finally started WU and I’m stoked. I’m going to live vicariously through her as I start MoonSun and/or Operation Proposal.
How’s everyone else doing?
I hope everything goes well with your mom.
I think I’ll start OP and go back to Moon/Sun too, now that most of the shows I was watching are ending.
About WR well…SPOILER at least creepy bartender was killed, though, it was such a stupid way to die.
I can’t wait to see Deeno talking about WU
By the way I have to go and read your WC recap
I pray that your Mom does well.
But imagine if the dog had died too!
At least the dog is snuffed your dramaverse
Sending good luck to your mom!
Thanks guys! She’s being prepped now and I’m waiting to be called to see her before she goes in…I’m on OT to keep my mind off things and you guys make me laugh. Talk about the Hand Towel more…
Can I just say that the reason it always confused me is because that is NOT a hand towel? That is a bath towel. PUT THE MAN IN A HAND TOWEL, DRAMA GODS!
For one thing, he’d have to choose what to cover…
I will suggest his feet.
@ JoAnne [busting a gut] HAHAHAHA
—–
@ Raine – hope everything went smooth with your mom.
Shuk here’s how my thought process went:
face: um, no
chest: obviously not
back: it would be hard to hold there
pelvic region: HELL no
rear end: again with a heartfelt no
His feet are really the only thing that could be covered without anyone screaming in outrage. And I’m guessing he’s got fans for those, too. It’s a big, weird world out there.
JoAnne: You could totally hang it off of different body parts depending on your mood….
—–
Shuk: Thanks! Mom’s still in surgery. Dad and I are doing paperwork in the cafeteria (IE. I surf the web and send a few emails for him while he makes phone calls) We’ve gotten two in surgery check up calls, both positive. It’s another hour or so of waiting….
I completely agree with you regarding WR, but I think my disappointment with the last episode and the way they did the conflict between MY and EJ just cements how much I loved this show, and how unique I thought it was. There was no need to tack on that much angst and conflict in the last episode, when there could have been so much fun, and the final scene just shows that! And I kind of wanted to slap MY and give EJ a big hug…
I wanted to slap MY too, but then I thought about it a little and his reaction was in character for him.
She was feeling insecure and he was hurt because she doubted his affection for her. He’s a jerk. He’s been a jerk for just about the entire drama. But his intense reaction should let her know once and for all that she’s the only one for him. When I think about it that way, it’s kind of sweet.
Agreed, both reactions were completely in character for the both of them, and the scene in the yard was really well acted! And when you mention the intensity of his reaction to her doubt, it really does show his affection for her.
Hi Raine,
What does “imo” mean, please? Thank you!
I think aunt (on mother side of family)
At least, that was explanation given when I saw it used in OB.
Yup! But, i think it can be used in various ways. Example: I visted Korea over xmas, and became good friends with the family that ran the hostel I stayed at. The owner’s daughter in law had a baby, and when I started becoming close with the family, the she started referring to me as “imo” to the baby. Because my “connection” was through the baby’s mother. I guess it seemed distinct to me because the daughter-in-law, the owner’s daughter and I would hang out…and they’d call the daughter “komo” but me “imo.”
MY was called Sanchon, remember? That’s Father’s brother. I thought it was because even though he was friends with both of the kid’s parents, his connection to his “hyung” was stronger.
So (and I could be wrong) I think if your not related, the title goes by where your connection comes from. In MY’s case, I took it to mean that he saw her as a mother-figure. Well, not an actual mother replacement, but since imo is mother’s sister, as a kind of a maternal connection. I could be reading to much into it though.
It means aunt, but sometimes it is used to refer to a store employee or maid
Also Raine,
I hope your mom’s surgery goes well!
Thank you ladies!
@Hillary: Thank you for clarifying the whole “shout out” thing in the last OT.” I wasn’t clear on what a “shout out” is. I thought one had to specifically say “a shout to….” for it to be a “shout out.” I am totally not hip when it comes to those kinds of things. I just remembered the times when I had heard people say (on TV and in other places) “and a shout out to so and so…). Since no one had ever associated my name with such a phrase, I just assumed I had never had “a shout out”
I guess I learned something new!!!
I think I listen to my 19-year old foster child too much… And don’t consider myself hip at all … LOL.
Hi Hillary,
Then that makes at least two of us. Glad to know I am not alone in this. And I think it’s OK not to be hip, I mean… there are other things we are good at and knowledgeable about, right
Also, I didn’t get the nanny position I interviewed for last Saturday:-( and the other leads I had didn’t pan out either. So I am back to square one. Thank you for caring enough to want to be informed about how things went.
I hope your Friday is going well. How do you feel after the ending of OB? Where you happy with the ending? I personally wished Tae Pil had gotten the girl, I thought he deserved a woman more than Tae Shik and I didn’t really buy the whole “He isn’t mature enough” argument. I mean, he turned Y’s store around with his business strategies and hard work, he never treated her badly (unlike his brothers and their women), and he didn’t waste time playing a mouse and cat game once he knew that he loved her. To me, he was mature enough (considering his age and his growth in the drama) and he usually told it like it was. I couldn’t believe Tae shik was getting a woman (still acting like a little bit of an idiot not knowing how to read his son and forcing the sex issue on MS in the kitchen) and not Tae Pil. But then, Fandaray made the argument that he it gave the actor who played Tae Pil the opportunity to show his acting chops as well, showing how he was handling his break-up, and I will give her that.
Maybe they could have had him break up at the beginning of the episode (or in the previous episode) and then by the end reconcile with Y. I don’t think they needed to force the marriage issue, I think that they could have just dated and seen where that led. I think that Tae Pil was really good for Y, he helped her in her professional life and he built up her confidence and she never treated him like a child, which was good for him (unlike the rest of his family). I think both characters deserved a happy ending. Or maybe they could have introduced Tae Pil to an older woman who wasn’t family related, so he could date her in the end (to avoid the whole “what does Cha Gom call Y if she ended up marrying TP” issue.
Any way, that is my rant about the ending of OB. I wanted to see all the brothers with a woman, not just some of them. Have a good weekend
@ Ivoire :
Tae pil’s couple was my favorite one. My feeling is that the writers separated them because one couple had to fail. And it fell on them.
But good news, maknae oppa is going to be back in a 4 parts drama special : Ordinary Love.
http://www.koreandrama.org/?p=16041
PS : I’m working on the massive reply, but can’t give you a deadline. Stay tuned !
First Rule of Hip: don’t use the word hip
@Ivoire:
I am sorry that your leads didn’t pan up. Keep on looking … something will come up hopefully sooner rather than later.
With respect to OB, I totally agree with your analysis. I was pissed when TP and Y did not end up together because I thought he was the most mature in handling women. Isn’t he supposed to be 30 or something, 1 year less than TH. Only in Korea would a 30-year old be not mature enough to get married, even if she is an older woman. And I agree that if it wasn’t for TP, Y wouldn’t have made success of store; and if it wasn’t for Y, TP probably wouldn’t have been ready to settle down. That is why I was a bit upset with the ending. And I don’t know what they did to that poor child’s hair for the wedding.
Imo means ‘aunt’ on the mother’s side. or it can be a mothers friend who is like an ‘aunt’.
Bonjour Ivoire! Comment allez-vous mon amie? Vous avez trouver du travaille?
Hi Raine,
How is your mom doing? I am in the process of moving so I can’t stay. Je vais bien, and I will catch up with you later. Take care… And non, je n’ai pas encore trouve du travail.
I hope everything goes as it should. Have a good dramaweekend!
Wishing your mom the best of luck with her surgery. Hope everything goes well.
Good luck and prayers to your mom that all goes smoothly!
And I’m hanging in there…..I posted downthread…
@Raine: True dedication to OT. Can’t believe you had time to visit before your mom’s surgery. Hope it goes well.
It’s called saving my sanity, Hillary. I actually brought the computer so we could skype with my sister in Colorado…then thought…what the hay…I can go on OT too….
Now that is an excellent multi-tasking use of your time.
I hope everything goes well with your mom’s surgery.
I didn’t like the ending all that much either. But all together it was a fun show,so I have no regrets. And also madDino’s recaps were hilarious,so it was totally worth it…
Deeno is pretty darn funny!
I wish the best for your mom Raine!
Stop stealing my life! Nah, I’ll probably tweet about it more now so you’ll be happy. Even if I’m still calling him Dong Soo…instead of whatever his real name is.
I hope your mom does well.
I have to say that it’s pretty awesome that there are so many Wild Romance comments in today’s open thread.
I love it. Still sad about the ratings. It was such a quirky little show.
I still don’t get the MoonStarThingaMabob love.
I really think that got big time reflected love in anticipation of viewing because of the DEEP, DEEP, DEEP love we noonas have for Sam Dong. And Choi Chi Soo/Scheduler.
And then when it started, it was so PRETTY. And all the favorite child actors were in it.
Sam-dong ah!!!!!!!!!!!
Me too. I sound like a broken record but I would really love to see LYS and LDW work on something else together. I loved them in WR so much. I could even see Robot Kim and Dong-ah in their own spin-off.
Moon is good, but overrated I think. Also, people got dazzled by Jung Il-woo. I don’t know man, ever since Flower Boy Ramyun Shop I remember him yelling, “Intern!” So when I see him in the saeguk outfit I expect to hear the same thing. Plus he kinda acts like a Chosun-era Cha Chi-soo. Hee.
Oops I meant LSY, not LYS. Much love to Eun-jae — miss you and your antics already!
Sending good vibes to you and your Mom!
Hi Raine!
All good here.
All the best for your mother’s surgery and recovery.
La la loving History of the Salesman:)
Happy weekend! Just found out that Lee Jun Ki and Shin Min Ah have been confirmed for MBC’s upcoming historical drama Arang. Yay!
It seems like a mix of Gumiho and Chilling Romance.
Sidenote : I saw LJK’s drama Hero and i liked it. I know it flopped, but really i found it good.
I like most of hero too. But for me his ROLE is time between dog and wolf. I couldn’t get enough of him after that. I missed him!
I mean the K character after he loses his memory. I have mouth- watery-ness!
KAY IS MINE! When he gets out of the car, and he is chewing gum, and sees our heroine who is staring at him opened mouthed in shock, so what does he do?
HE WINKS AT HER!
That moment-of-time-in-the-drama-Kay is MINE. <3
No way
*pushes Jomo out the way*
Kay is mine. MINE. MINE
I’m so excited for that one! yeah..if the castings are confirmed for both of them, I couldn’t agree more! I’m starting to spend my time looking for the folktale and stuff, then I realize it’ll be aired only in July..that’s still far away..
where can I find info about arang?
http://www.hancinema.net/lee-joon-ki-to-come-back-with-arang-and-the-magistrate-39144.html
kamasahabnida! kamsahabnida! ( sung like the kamshabnida song from gag concert)
OMG OMG OMG
That photo is just amazing.
Nobody looks like him. He’s beautiful and manly and has that deeeep voice that travels deep inside me.
Maybe this sageuk will break all barriers and have more than one kiss…
So after time travels it’s inter species couples. Impossible romance ? I hope not. I want him to be a true rewarded lover.
I know!!! how gorgeous did he get! My cat makes a now now now sound when he wants to go out side and that’s all I can say to that photo. Now now now!
Inter-species couple/romance?
Aren’t they already doing this on ‘Vampire Idols’?
WHAT? WHERE?
excited!!! though I’m REALLY behind on my drama watching these days…
Fabuloso!
Thanks for sharing the news Patrice!
BigBang!!!!!
I absolutely LOVE their new single “Blue”! I can’t wait for more!
And also…
I love LMK’s “Not in Love” from SUFBB OST. It has a great Modern English kind of vibe that takes me back to my youth….
I love “Not in Love”. Lee Min-ki is a pretty decent singer, huh? I think someone somewhere said it’s a cover of Crystal Castles’ version.
Yeah, that is what I read.
Someone in the comments down below corrected this info and said that the original was done by Platinum Blond, so yeah, learned something new.
haha. did u watch him singing in the old xman? totally hilarious.
glad he went for alt rock style
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Mu8um_GNvM
That track is my Favorites at YT. I love how he says loaaave.
no way, it’s a cover of “not in love”? i freaking love that song. i need to check this out.
I´m watching Flower Boy Band and so far I love it and suprisingly not for those “flower boys”
) – it speaks for itself. Anyone else?
BTW I don´t watch Moon/Sun cause I´m totally bored with the plot and all that hype surounding the drama. I´m blaming fangirls and weather changes. I need some reason, you know
)
Dude, I can talk about Shut Up: Flower Boy Band all day! Hit me up, puppy! Are you a Ji-hyuk/Su-ah shipper? Do you hope to see Teacher Kim become the band’s mentor or manager? Do you wish Woo-kyung would wake up and smell Do-il’s coffee? Would you like to see someone slap Seung-hoon or his sister? Tell me anything.
OMG! *butts in*
Yes to everything! And Teachem Kin needs to be band’s mentor.
This drama is so good. Like chocolate good. I can’t believe it’ll end next month.
Aww I didn’t think about that.
I don’t want it to end! I wanna see these guys tour and everything! haha…
Anyway Seung-hoon needs to get a hint because Su-ah already told him that she doesn’t like him *that* way. I wonder how long they will drag that out. I also don’t want them to drag out Do-il and Woo-kyung’s story. I wonder what it’s going to take to see those two happen. Is it too much to ask for Ji-hyuk and Su-ah to go out finally in one of the next two episodes?
I really don’t want to hate Seung-hoon because I think his character had potential to be a cool guy, but I kind of sense that he’s about to turn into a pain.
And yes…he needs to stop with the stalking. She probably still sees him as the geeky, shrimp she had to carry on her back as a kid. She’ll never see him as a man, especially with Ji-hyuk on the sidelines with his gruff charm and yummy kisses.
yeah, and the sister should stop acting like she owns-owns them. ok you make the single. but she was already basking in their future glory before they signed anything.
I prematurely called SeungHoon a jerk, but I think it is more like he is a loner…
I like that iin that drama there is always a ray of hope shining through every cloud. we might have had to worry about Teacher Kim, but his connection with that Rock guy might show a new perspective. when a door closes, a window opens.
but damn it. where is that site with the video and fan count. I have been searching like mad. dont you all dare give me “it is just a drama, it is not a real band”. it feel real enough to have me constantly keep my fingers crossed
I agree about Seung-hoon. Even though he acted a bit jerk-like to his friends, I don’t think he is, really. Just a lone wolf type. Everyone’s been saying on soompi that they want him to become Eye Candy’s songwriter, but I don’t know if that’ll happen. It’d be cool if it happened, though. As far as SH sister goes, I can totally see her butt heads with Ji-hyuk and (yuck) enjoy it.
@redfox
Which video are you talking about, btw? You mean on yt or a different website?
Thank you, ladies!
Thanks for brightening up my lousy mood. All your comments in the post about Song Seung-heon made me laugh!
Aside from the fact that you girls should clearly be jailed :p , I do think all of you are a hoot!
Unfortunately I can’t stay today. I have to study for a test tomorrow. Have fun!
okay you too. I’ll call you oppa this once! Oppa
Good luck on your test, Oppa!
**pout, wiggle, giggle**
Oppaaaaa!Hwaiting!;)
Good luck ricky! ^^ you’ll do just fine! Fighting!
Happy OT Oppa!! Hope you have a great week!
Oppa Ricky, you’ll do well — just think of all of us waiting on pins and needles until your return!! No pout/wiggle from me, though… last time I ended up pulling a muscle.
You have to tell us how it went, YRH! Oggling SSH won’t be nearly as much fun while we worry about you.
@ ahjummabunny, Cynthia, shirin-noona, cv, Leaf, cherkell and cmrprindle
Thanks for your warm wishes!
The test went well
I had to memorize a lot of stuff but it was worth it.
yay! Now come play.
What’s up?
Wahoo! Awsome to hear that! ^^ Have a good weekend.
Wahoo! Awsome to hear that! ^^ Have a good weekend.
Ohayou minasan… a short post from me because I need to head out for what looks like another really freakin’ long workday. I’ve just pulled two 20-hour stints back-to-back, and I’m sure I’m gonna be stuck with another one for this lovely Friday morning. Argh.
But before I bug out, I wanna know why the people at DramaFever are so pissy!!! I e-mailed them months ago to tell them that they had wrong information posted on their Bachelor’s Vegetable Store homepage (some biography details were incorrect and the number of shows should be 24 instead of 20), but they never responded. I sent another couple during the run of the show to tell them there’s a bunch of typos in their subs (mostly in Episodes 9 and 10), and didn’t hear back from them then either. So then yesterday (and @Cynthia can back me up on this), they sent out a Tweet and posted on Facebook saying that the ‘second-to-last episode’ (Episode 19) was up with subs. I sent them a tweet back saying oh no it’s not; this Show is scheduled for 24 episodes and it’s even listed on the Channel A homepage! So I get a nastygram from some DF minion last night saying the information given to them was for 20 episodes and basically thanks, but no thanks and butt out. Checking the site this morning, they STILL haven’t corrected themselves. I give up being Ms. Nice Gal… what a bunch of dickweeds. Hmpf.
But Our Hottie Bachelors’ ratings are rising quite well — Episode 17 had a high that evening of 1.007% before settling down with an .849% for the night, with a series-high .887% clocked for Episode 19 — they even beat out “Operation Proposal” that night (sorry Seungho-ssi!). I just hope that folks will give this show a chance once all the big blockbusters have finished their respective runs. You won’t regret it, even with all the makjang being thrown at you left and right.
I’ll try to check in later if I ever get to a stopping point. Save some veggie oil and a few hand towels for me, ne?
Okay veggie store is a must watch now. I do want something foody anyway after fermentation says adieu.
Cherkell…….does Apple do summer internships for legal students? My son is looking for an internship here for mid June til end of July. He’s interning in Santiago, Chile before that. And do you know who he would contact about that?
Hiya Shel!! Glad to see you’re on the mend… and isn’t it too nice a day to be cooped up indoors like we both are? ::grumble::
Sweetie, I answered you in last week’s OT but I think it got buried, so let me cut-and-paste here instead: Sorry to report that Apple did away with their legal internship program back in 2006; the only internships offered now are in engineering and finance. What does he want to specialize in (eventually)? I can ask around to see which outside counsel firms we contract with might be looking for summer help…
He’s still kicking around….this is his first year. He’s thinking patent, environmental or international. (Hence the Santiago internship…he speaks fluent Spanish)
Sorry I missed it last week. I didn’t even ask until late Saturday, and I figured you were “gone” until the next OT.
No worries. I’ll put some feelers out next week, but up here in The Valley, the private firms usually hire summer clerks/interns for a full summer term (Memorial Day to the last week in August). Fingers crossed!!
Thanks! He got a lead for a spot at Monterey County that sounds promising. Which would be a lot closer, but not exactly what he’s interested in. They’re hoping to stay with us next summer to save on housing costs, so he’s looking anywhere within about an hour of here.
Morning, Cherkell – you need a vacation!
For some odd reason, several sites have BVS on a 20 ep. description.
Just left another comment on the DF FB page. It was obvious after watching ep 20 that it wasn’t in any way, the ending. Which the DF minions will figure out next week when our 6PACK continues to run around taking up programming space on Ch.A.
But sending you a nasty email? Not nice.
Heh – just checked the DF FB page. Guess who just posted a “You’re right, we were wrong” comment?
LOL
awww… i guess I’ll have to wait another 2 weeks before the end of the show. Oh well, it’s getting good now. ^^
LOL Cynthia — I’m definitely being punished. guess that will teach ME to take a day off! Hmpf.
I haven’t had a chance to check FB yet, but I did receive a “we’re sorry” Tweet from the DF folks saying they’ve corrected their egregious error. I just saw that both 19 and 20 are up on DF now… but I don’t see myself being able to watch until prolly midnight tonight. WAAAAAAAH!! Oh well… I’ll just have to console myself staring at the new JCW pics I posted on my Tumblr last night.
Just out of curiosity, does “ne” mean “Ok” in Korean? I know I have heard it in kdramas, but I was never sure how to interpret it. And I know I have experts here and people who are more drama knowledgeable than I am, so, at the risk of sounding dumb, I am asking. Thank you
@Ivoire
“Ne” is Japanese. They sort of use it for OK and Right. It’s informal
“Ohayo minnasan” is also Japanese. It means good morning (ohayo) everyone (minna-san).
By “right” I mean the way we use right as verification and not the direction
LOL.
The “ne” word in Korean is “yes” and as “huh?”. It sometimes pops up the same as the “ne” is Japanese (as verification “ne?”) but it’s rare and they don’t use it as @Cherkell does here, which is the Japanese way. ^^v
@ Bluefyre,
thank you for the detailed explanation. And also for teaching me a little bit of Japanese on a Friday morning. This OT thing is great, we can learn all kinds of things and ask all kinds of questions, I like that
So am I safe in assuming that Cherkell meant “ne” as in “Okay?” Because that is what it seems like to me. And also, I have heard and seen “ne” in Kdramas but also “de” to mean “huh?”, are they the same and interchangeable in that sense?
Looking forward to your (detailed) answers
Can’t speak to the Japanese, but I do know that Ne and De are actually the same word. It’s just some pronounce it de. The word is ne.
Gomen nasai for confusing everyone — I was up waaaay too early on a conference call with Japan and I guess my speech patterns were still stuck in Nihongo…
@Bluefyre is correct; I proferred a “ne” in an “okay?” usage. Unfortunately, I use it a little too often and probably should dial it back. I’m also starting to unconsciously spit out a few “dehs” and “ottokes” and “aigoos” when something goes wrong at the office, which always draws a few stares from my co-workers… well, more than normal.
In Korean, “yeh” and “deh” are somewhat interchangeable — it all depends on the inflection of the usage. I still kinda giggle at all the “deh?” thrown around a K-drama, as it sounds to me like they’re saying “DUH” instead.
Enough Language 101 for today, chingus. I gotta get back to work. Laters!
Thanks again guys! So another question now: “Gomen nasai” is that Japanese for “sorry?” or “I apologize?”
Hi there Cherkell!
Some people don’t like help especially if it makes them look inadequate…
Glad DF have acknowledged their mistake
Well, they ‘kinda’ acknowledged it by saying the next four eps were EXTENSIONS. Hate to nitpick, but no, they’re not extensions. BVS always had 24 eps. Which I stated on the DF FB page because I’m petty and need to have the last word.
So THERE. Stick THAT in your pipe and smoke it, DF.
@cynthia, thanks for having my back. I saw that a few hours ago and was going to say something… but got sidetracked by the news that My Precious Changwook-ssi was involved in a car accident at 5:00 AM KST (Sunday the 26th). His manager-driven van collided with a dump truck who crossed the line after the driver allegedly fell asleep from driving all night. The dump truck then caught fire but was quickly extinguished, and everyone was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. I have not stopped shaking since hearing this… I’ll report back with more news once I get it from the Fan Club. In the meantime…. SOB!!!!
@ cherkell : No !!!!! Wookie !
Hope for him to be alright. Those damn accidents always happen soon in the morning or late at night when everyone is toast or sleepy.
Big Deep Heavy Sigh… after slogging through several (incomplete) reports and the news programs from overnight, the truth finally comes out: It was his MANAGER that caused the accident, as he allegedly because drowsy and the van they were riding in plowed into the back of a dump truck waiting at a traffic light. The van caught fire but was quickly extinguished and ended up totalled. This all came about due to the BVS late-night shoot that ended at 2:00 AM, but Changwook-ssi was required back on the set by 7:00 AM to resume filming some last-minute scenes, with the accident occurring at 5:48 AM KST 26 February.
Both JCW and his manager were treated for their injuries and released, but the most disturbing fact is that Changwook-ssi received a 4cm-long gash to his upper forehead near the hairline, which the doctors bandaged up so he could return to the BVS set around 1:00 PM. He finishing filming on Sunday and will return to hospital to receive further treatment on 27 February. Good thing too, because I will make it my life’s work to ensure someone pays dearly if that gorgeous face of his ever received a single scratch!!! Hwaiting nae salang-ul Jibaewoonim!! ♥♥♥
Thanks a lot for the report. Ouf !
They should really install dorms or trailers near the shooting locations to alleviate cast and crew. Basically it was an all nighter and i’m sure it wasn’t the first time.
And they should separate managing and chauffeur job. One day we will have a kill.
* throw salt above my shoulder *.
Poor kid. It sounds like that accident that SSH was in while filming WBDS. Why these actors won’t unionize is beyond me – it would solve 90% of events like these from happening.
Happy weekend everyone!! i’m gonna take a backseat and watch you guys talk ( nothing new there)
Good morning OTers! How was everyone’s week?
I’m still plugging along trying to get well. I feel mostly OK, but can’t get around too well yet, and I’m not allowed to drive, or even be in a car unless I’m going to the doctor, which is driving me insane. Especially since we’ve been having absolutely perfect beach weather….gah! I had lots of company over the holiday weekend; my sister and her kids, my son and his wife, and one of the sisterwives brought her family over for a bbq. I miss her kids, so it was fun to have them here.
I haven’t been watching as many dramas as I thought I would. LOVING the ones I’m watching, though: FF, which ends this week (bummer) and has such awesome cinematography and all the different kimchis and dishes they make are interesting, and the characters likeable and a lovely story. Shut Up, which has the awesome Sung Joon. Great story, fun music. Moon/Sun got a little slow, but once Wol got her memory back, now it’s kicking again. And I just started Operation Proposal, which is kind of cute so far.
I made myself a list of stuff I could do while stuck in this chair and one of them was to finally work on hubby’s photography site. In a few days, it’ll have it’s own URL, but it’s up, with a few galleries and I believe it’s fully functional. Let me know what you think and check back often as I have TONS of pics left to upload and a very slow internet connection. But, you guys get to be my guinea pigs! If you just can’t stand it and want to order something DON’T DO IT until you talk to me and I’ll get you a coupon for a discount.
http://www.zenfolio.com/sambaileyphotography
@Sethe…..how’s our man doing? I keep forgetting to read my news page, lol.
@Shukis LOVE the story so far….anxiously awaiting the next chapter (but I know that you have RL, too)
@Ricky Where/How the heck are you???
@Ivoire How did the live-in situation hunt go?
Everyone have a lovely weekend….
Hi Shel, glad to see than you’re doing fine and have your family around. Will definitely take a look at your photo website but later : I love guinea’s pigs btw. NOT enough time, so frustrating…
Shel, I’m glad to see you are recovering well, and even working on hubby’s website
beautiful pictues
I’m going to miss FF too, I love the interactions of the characters, and the food. That show makes me always hungry.
Am glad to see you are doing well, and you had me on your side until you mentioned beach weather.
Now I am looking out my window at the 24 degree F sky and trying not to be completely jealous of you…
NOT really! Hope you can enjoy the weather soon!
I’ll go eat my lunch out on the deck and watch the itty bitty waves that I can see from out there and pretend, lol. This is weird weather for here. It’s usually rainy from about November until about April. We had a big storm in Oct, a couple in Dec, then nothing until a few weeks ago when we got a bit. Now it’s sunny, almost 70 and beautiful. In the summer when you guys are having lovely weather, we’ll be having our summer fog and gloom. Very strange place, this is, lol.
Hi Shel.Glad you’re doing better.
Yay for recovering! You’re still getting more drama watching done then me!
Hope you’ll be able to move around soon!
Hi Shel!
Glad to hear it sounds that you’re recovering, albeit slowly
I visited your husband’s website, and thought the photos I saw were pretty amazing. I’m not really an artsy type [translation: I don't care much about photos or paintings or any of that] but I did think the photos I saw were pretty beautiful.
Our man seems to be back on top, after a time of running second to “repulsive bigot” (as one salon.com columnist rightfully called him, in my opinion) Rick Santorum. (Don’t Google “Santorum”
)
General consensus is that our man won the most recent debate, in Arizona. No one doubts that he’s intelligent and competent… but it was kinda funny as hell when the moderator asked all the candidates to describe themselves with one word, and Mitt chose “resolute.” Really? The only thing he’s resolute about is his desire to be President
(BTW, Newt Gingrich describing himself as “cheerful” is also funny as hell.)
Ha! I heard he was in my homestate, but no one from home said anything. I get most of news from left-leaning NPR when hubby is home, but he’s been working onsite these days, and I just don’t think to turn on the radio. After about four days, I’m wondering if the world blew up or anything whilst I was oblivious, lol. Then I go check out CNN to see if we’re still here. ;0)
Yeah, all the commentators are talking about how Michigan (primary next week) is a “must-win” for him, but really, this race has been so crazy, who knows?
All the GOP “elite” are apparently still fantasizing about someone else joining the race… they just can’t fall in love with our man (exactly like the voters, it seems
).
Enjoy your lovely weather… I’m jealous
Hi Shel.
Hope you are get the freedom to move a.s.a.p. Till then all the more excuse to immerse yourself in KDramas (when you’re not working).
Have checked your husband’s photos. They’re great. Hope you got to enjoy the places he went to too.
Take care.
Oh yeah, he’s not allowed to go on a photography trip without me. Frankly, he’d never get there….I’m the travel agent, lol. I’m going through our Alaska pictures now, so check back in a few days cuz he got some pretty spectacular stuff there.
And we live where most of the coastal shots were taken, so that’s just a Saturday afternoon outing.
@ Shel
Aww, you missed me?
I was buried under miles of work for the past 2 weeks.
I’m glad you’re getting better
Ricky, oppa! Of course I missed you. :0/
Sorry to hear school is so tough on your social schedule (at least the online one), but it’s to be expected, I suppose. I’m glad you’re working hard, though, it’ll pay off in the end.
And, although complications have made my recovery a little slow, my doctor told me yesterday that I’m healing faster than she expected. At first when the complications set in, they were predicting a couple of months, but now she’s saying maybe a month until I can be out and about as long as I’m somewhat careful.
In the meantime, my ukulele playing is getting a lot better, and I”m working on hubby’s website…both of which are good ways to avoid getting the taxes ready, which is what I should be doing, lol.
Yes! So awesome to hear about your speedy recovery. People with a sense of humour always heal faster!
My best college friend called a couple of days after surgery and wanted to know when I was going to be “cleared to laugh”, lol. Like I have any choice when I’m talking to her…
I heard Marie Osmond say once that most people say about their problems, “We’ll laugh about this some day”. She says her opinion has always been, “If we’re gonna laugh about it someday, might as well laugh about it now!”
So we deal with life at our house by laughing and praying. Not always in that order….
@ Shel – I just wanna know what kind of clock did they stick in the hole in your stomach – is it a Seiko?
@ Ricky – I’m glad everything is going well for you. I was kinda worried when there was nary a peep from the Malaysian contingent. Keep doing well in your studies!
@ Leaf – In order to do a movie night for our European family, I figured that it would have to be done at 2100 Saturday GMT / 0800 Australian time Sunday. That’s if the Kiwi contingent thinks it’s a workable solution. Lemme know, and I’ll help coordinate it. The other Movie Mavens can do the main movie watch. Is that okay with everyone?
@ everyone else – Sorry for not being as active as I usually am on the thread. It’s just been one of those weekends.
And, tonight, the Oscars! I actually took off from work just to go to an Oscar party. Not that I’m that deeply into movie-watching, but the people who sponsor the event are all in local theater and TV production, so it’s amusing to watch theatrical types freak out over fashions and winners!
I hope everyone’s week is safe and healthy.
9pm saturday sounds fine
However I’m not that bothered about it (as I take forever to watch stuff so it would be more like a movie weekend… yes, I get very easily distracted… and also I rarely have anything to say) so it’s mainly for the other Europeans here!!
Hope you have a good week Unni!!
Hi Shel,
Good to know you are doing better. We are pulling for you, hang in there and keep on plugging away. The live-in nanny job search is still going on, as the four leads I had didn’t turn into an offer. I had three phone (kind of) interviews, I had one real interview and they decided to go with someone else. So I am back to square one. Thank you for asking and for remembering. On top of all that, I found out today, I need to move out by March 1st, so I will be very busy and will answer to the comments made to me later (and by answer, I mean my proper [read "detailed"] answers).
I very briefly visited your site (I am into photography as well and I do take a lot of pictures too) and it seems lovely. Will wait until I have more time to leisurely look at it. Thank you so much for sharing.
Gotta go, hope your weekend is going well, considering…
hi all!
so frustrated with dream high2! last week made it seem promising of a turn & it went right back to being a lil wonky. aish. but for all my complains, i’ll still be watching it cos of cute male candies. well, can’t blame a girl.
still loving shut up! flower boy band
(except the female lead…)
byunghee craze drove me to check out Dal Ja’s Spring. the writing is so amazing! such a gmh for all us single ladies. & i can’t wait for yeo jin gu to grow up to see if he would really look like lee minki when he matures. (i’m guessing prob shorter version)
& kim yoo jin is on every magazine spread looking so gorgeous! in 5 years time, she wouls so be the representative face of korea actresses.
the twelve man in a year recap has got me revved up. hoping the upcoming episodes will proof to be a great draw..& that some kind souls will sub the show.
hoping for moon/sun to pick up its pace. may future saegeuks base their scenes more in the out and open instead of within the confining palace walls. . i think there’s a correlation between their location and how grabbing the scenes play out. I got so bored watching them taunt with their mouths while sitting stiffly in their seats. Never understood why the king couldn’t just off his biggest political rival. he could so pull a nokyoung or a woon or some other corruption charges on minister yoon. problem solved. ok, maybe not. if so, minister yoon & his ghastly facial hair would become the protagonist of the show. horror!
BTW Ricky says hi but he’s got to study! HWAITING RICKY!
ohoh,i forgot! check out john park’s single falling!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dw-kA8bjG8o
so awesome!
heard its rivalling big bang in the charts. proof of its worth!
ps. i think it sounds better than blue :p
Oh! Very Nice!
Thanks so much for the link. This is one of the things I love about this site… I have been introduced to so much good music since becoming a Beanie!
so have i
I heard it just yesterday and i love it, I also love Big bang blue what a beautiful song. i like sad songs so if you know any good songs just tell me. Happy Friday
Went on iTunes and listened to clips from the entire album….it’s all great. I’m downloading it now ;0)
Nice! thx for the introduction. Is this his first single?
Yay, Friday.
Watching Beauties of the Tang Palace (Chinese drama) on viki.
Really like it. One eye roll is the “flying kung -fu” scenes. Really, is that necessary? Otherwise, lots of palace intrigue.
Watched Sophie’s Revenge too. Cute !
yes flying kung fu scenes are absolutely necessary!!!! kung fu elevates you!
Sophie’s Revenge was adorable.
Ok, I’ve reached the end of the subbed episodes of Beauties of the Tang Palace, so I’m watching Schemes of a Beauty.
Regarding beauties, the actresses are pretty and I love the sound of Chinese.
Pretty good, I wish the video quality were better though.
On a food note, I mentioned awhile back that the wife and I were going to brew some mead. That’s currently in progress, should be ready around September.
We also decided to give kombucha (fermented tea) and kefir ( water, not milk) a try.
Various trial and error with several different fruits. The kombucha with ginger is delicious, second favorite is with lemon. We’ve tried blueberry, raspberry, lemon & lime, and orange. The kefir isn’t quite as tasty but doesn’t take as long, a few days as opposed to a week or so for the kombucha .
Okay, John, time to let everyone else have a taste…it sounds good!
Happy OT everyone!!!

The week went by so fast.
WR and FF are over, I’m not terribly satisfied with WR ending. But by now, I’m used to disappointing endings.
I’m think I should star OP and restart Moon/Sun.
My birthday is Monday, so I’m celebrating this weekend with my friends. Not too sure what they have in mind tho.
On top of that, my best friend’s mom, that takes care of me like my own mom, just came back home from the hospital. So I couldn’t have a better birthday present.
Well I hope you all had a great week and have a better weekend.
Shel, I hope you are recovering well.
happy birthday zgz! Have fun this weekend.
Happy Birthday!
Happy Birthday to you-na!
Happy happy birthday, zgsnoona, dear! Have fun celebrating….milk it for several days, that’s our family tradition, lol.
I’m doing OK. Mostly just bored waiting for all this to heal.
Happy happy birthday zgznoona, may all your wishes come true this year, and may you see lots and lots of Korean actors:)
Happy Birthday for Monday!! Have an awesome day (and weekend!!!) <3
Happy Birthday!!
Happy Birthday!
How do you like this pretty cake? It has strawberries and sliced oranges on top, courtesy of BVS!
thanks ahjummabunny,come2noona, Jomo, Shel, shirin-noona, leaf, cruelsummer, Cynthia
I wish. I’ll have to move to Korea for that.
I’ll try ti have as much fun as possible.
@shel I think I’ll adopt that technique of milking for as long as possible
@shirin-noona, do you mean in real life?
@Cynthia are the pretty bachelor delivering it?
Didn’t you hear the knock?!
All 6 of ‘em were lined up at your door…..
Yeaaaaaah! Tell them to wait for me, I’ll be there in 5 min.
The have to come when I wasn’t home, damn it
I just hope you’re sensible enough to greet them at the door only wearing a towel….cause you were in the shower, right?
Of course…this noona knows how to treat her guest
Happy early birthday!!!
Feliz cumple!!! Que la pases superbien!!!
Happy Bday!
Happy birthday, noona!
Thank you Jennifer, alua, aoiaheen, and ricky the royal highness
@alua I didn’t know you speak Spanish
@ricky how did your biochemistry exam go?
Antes de venir a Londres, vivía cuatro años en Costa Rica. Y hace mucho tiempo vivía en España (Granada y San Sebastián) por un año. empecé con castellano adaluz pero ahora hablo sólo hablo español tico
It was okay, I think. I mixed up one amino acid structure – Asn (asparagine) with Asp (aspartic acid), but whatever. I did my best. Thanks for asking
I do that every day, Ricky. It’s such a common mistake…
TOTALLY! lol
I once got a benzene ring and an engagement ring mixed up…
chemistry jokes FTW! Haha
A neutron walks into a bar; he asks the bartender: “How much for a beer?” The bartender looks at him and says: “For you, it’s no charge”.
Is that a bad joke? I’m not positive!
Happy Friday everyone!
First off I have been watching JIN/JIN2 this week and it’s fabulous. I don’t think I have seen a show where the sequel season is better than the first one. I am happy that I choose such a great drama for my deflowering. Anyone has any other good j-drama shows to suggest? Oh and if you haven’t watched Jin please do it’s great.
Second I watched Cha Seung Won movie Secrets on Netflix and I have to admit he is looking extremely sexy with his long hair minus the goattee. ( I never thought he waas sexy before even in Best Love *hungs head in shame*)
Third I recently watched the Princess Hyeopyong (sp?) Weight Loss drama special and it made me sooooo mad. I can’t believe she went back to her husband instead of getting with her fitness guru who clearly loved her whether she was fay or thin.
I’ve started the new Yamapi’s drama : Ending planner, and i like it a lot.
I’m enjoying Ending Planer as well. I’m also enjoying Hungry, but I don’t know what happen to this week’s episode
anyone watching History of the Salaryman? gosh, I can’t get over how sweeeet Hang Woo is when he’s with Woo Hee!
Salaryman ROCKS. Everyone in it rocks. The directing and ost – you guessed it – rock. I guess that’s all I can say about it, lol.
Yes, he is definitely sweet (on and with) Woo Hee. I started watching it because of the Dramabeans’ recap and now addicted. The viki team that translates it must feel the same way as it is the fastest show translated (I think) on viki.
the no salary team on viki is awesome! They have good taste and are so committed to keep me in drama. I really hope someday to give back to the fan subbing community.
Salaryman is great. Drama & Comedy mixed just right.
Yes, Viki translates that show extremely fast, ( thank you x 100 )
So sad that Ojakgyo brothers comes to an end. Great drama.
Well WR ended, a little sad here but love this show bec it’s very unusual Korean drama . It’s not typical and the writer portrayed her characters boldly that I felt they were real people with real feelings. MY as a man that is stupid and acts just like a man ( his way is better and always right), EJ as any woman( expects her man toread her mind).
His answer that he feels that he will love her till he dies is the sweetest ever ! But ,come to think of it, E J neve said he loves him! Hmmm…
Side note: love how the men in EJ ‘ s family do the household chores : like cooking and folding laundry and they always listen to EJ.
I think with this drama it showed us that love for family is important ,love can be obsessive and dangerous, love can bring the worst and best out of a person but will also bring the greatest joy if you belong to someone who calls you their ” my gull head” !! Sorry for the long post! Have great weekend !
Happy OT! How was your week in terms of dramas?
For me, Wild Romance went out on a fizzle this week. It has long known that the Ahjumma was the culprit behind all the doings to bring Mu-yeol down. As early as episode 2, it was clued when she was shown boiling some herbs in Mu-yeol’s kitchen, followed by the poisoning of his teammate. Following that, however, Ahjumma was relegated to the sidelines, while the show sought to cast suspicions on nearly every other character in the show. When the Ahjumma was confirmed as the culprit, I felt like I’d been led on a wild goose chase by the writer through a selective representation of scenes.
And the last two episodes fell flat for me, ‘cos all there was to uncover was Ahjumma’s motivations for her actions, and it was neither original, or convincing…. Disappointed…
HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAPPPPPPYYYY Friday!
I am wearing my new glasses, do you like?
I just ate the BEST donut I have ever eaten in my life – fluffy and creamy with chocolate on top.
I watched Brain with Shin Ha Kyun. Then I watched it again. Then again. Then, again. I wanted to kill Dr. Brain and hug him at the same time. Despite the blood and brains all over the place, I LOVED IT.
SHK is a force of nature. Since I watched Thirst first, (why not? It rhymes.) it took me about 5 episodes to connect him to the wet character he played in that film. Holy Moley!
Now I am watching and cringing at and belly laughing at Harvest Villa. It is really strange.
Really strange.
I know the reviews of it were very good when it aired. It feels like a film, and watching SHK go from afraid to adorable to angry to astonished to adoring to sad thrills me to death. Am only on ep 5 now.
OK Casting the girl for Towel Slip McJin:
I vote Eugene.
Donut? Darn you Jomo, you’ve just awakened my donut craving. And there’s a lovely shop just down the street.
Oooh, Harvest Villa has been on my list for a long time. I love black comedies (must be why I enjoy Salaryman so much). Speaking of which, hooray for the extension! I usually hate extensions (ahem, MoonSun), but for this drama I was jumping around all over the place.
I hate you teasing me with the donut. Well I don’t hate you, but you made me hungry.
Havest Villa, one of my favorites. I love dark comedies
isn’t harvest villa great! you won’t believe where it takes you! the people who did it also did sign ( they’re a couple writer and director) shin ha kyun is pretty good too. Maybe I’ll put brain on my list although that gory stuff is not on my list of things to watch.
I can’t say that Brain wasn’t gory but it wasn’t really bloody.
You could cover the important icky parts with your hand and still see the subtitles. Yes, I did that.
I just had to keep saying “It’s not really a brain, it’s just a prop.” to keep from gagging a little.
But the drama was non-stop. I don’t know why I started at 9PM one night, but it was 1:30am before I could stop.
The character was extremely well written. SHK put a lot of his own ideas into Dr. Brain’s idiocyncrasies, but he said many of the odd tics were in the script.
He was so intense, I thought he was going to turn himself inside out. I have never seen anything like that before.
ah keurae yo? okay thanks. It’s on viki right? I’ll have a lot of time in april so I can drama-out.
I watchhed it on Kimchidrama and Jacinda First.
Both load faster and don’t have commercials like Viki.
Sometimes the synch was off on one site (I think that is my wifi problem) so I would switch between them.
The romance didn’t take up a lot of screen time, but I loved that part of the show. The romance we did see was intense. I replay all of the romance scenes when I am feeling stressed.
bunny, you might actually like Brain. I didn’t quite enjoy the excess of hospital conflicts. But I think is a kind of show you would like
I loved Brain. However, I must admit that I laughed whenever I saw doctor leading a whole pack of doctors/residents battling it out. I have seen maybe 1 doctor with 3-4 doctors trailing behind in US hospitals. But in kdramas, I really don’t get how you could have 10-20 doctors following behind like sheep and “duking” it out based on the sheer number of doctors trailing behind you.
The crowd going down the hall all in white reminded me of a bizarro bowling game — where the pins travel together in a pack trying to knock down what crosses their paths!
Watching Brain can be for one reason and one reason only – Shin Ha Kyun. He can glue you to your seat effortlessly. I wonder how much of his Dr Lee persona is created by him – apart from the line and personality written in the script – his way of walking and little gestures (eg scratching his lower jaw when he’s a tad nervous).
I never thought anyone would surpass my favourite kdrama Dr – Lee Bom Soo’s Dr Ahn in Surgeon Bong Dal He. But SHK did in Brain!
Ooooo…..doughnuts…….
OK ….that’s not even fair. Now I’m craving donuts, I live in the “sticks”, hubby is gone to work and I’m not allowed to drive. :0(
Oooh! I’m with you on Eugene!
Also jealous about the donut
*Jumping on the donut craving bandwagon*
I had a donut this morning, but it wasn’t nearly as delicious as your donut sounds
That is the thing about donuts.
Your craving for them rarely matches the sensation they deliver, but when they do, man!, it is god’s food.
A reliably always hits the spot food I crave is:
Ruffles potato chips and Bison sour cream and onion dip
in the summer with a tall glass of iced tea with lemon, lightly sweetened… Yummmm!
Now I want chips and dip. Jomo’s bad for my “in-name-only” diet. You know the diet that I go around telling everyone that I’m on while I’m snacking on donuts and chips
I am on the same diet! It’s delicious, ain’t it?
Hi Jomo!
Always great to see you here
What I miss more than anything here in Seoul is Mexican food (burritos, nachos, chips and salsa…) and Indian buffets… both were abundant in NYC, and I just can’t find the same thing here.
I also miss American Chinese food. Occasionally my co-workers will order “Chinese,” but as far as I can tell, in Seoul, that just means jjajangmyun plus regular Korean food. I miss my vegetable lo mein and broccoli with garlic sauce…
Hope all is going well with all of you
I was looking for you earlier! Nice to see you.
Here I am back in my chair on a Friday evening.
My husband just handed me a chocolate Frosty!!
(Much easier to eat in the dark than a cone.)
I like Tex-mex, too. Quesadillas and fajitas with guac.
Enjoy your Seoul food; you will miss it when you leave!
Oh, quesadillas and guacamole… why are you so mean?
Being vegetarian seriously limits my food options in Korea, but I do love kimbap and bibimbap (along with the little side dishes they serve at restaurants, and that always come with food you order, like kimchi)… I will miss those when I leave Korea.
How are you doing these days, Jomo?
Sorry!
Although you are taunting back with you side dishes a plenty!
Things are going OK. Mostly I keep a close eye on my 16 year old, and try to get her to want to do well in school. Enjoy the time I have with her since she will be off to college in under two years!
Is Spring on it’s way over there, or is Winter still lingering?
Sorry
Difference is, I’m sure you can find Korean-style food there without too much difficulty, while it’s pretty hard to find American-style “ethnic” food here, even in the areas that cater to foreigners.
It’s spring-ish here — as in, I’m not freezing to death when I go out in my winter coat and scarf and gloves, as was the case for the last few weeks. Supposedly more cold weather is on the way, though.
I don’t think I was very appreciative of/nice to my parents when I was a teenager… hope your daughter’s a better person than I was
Hiya Jomo!
New glasses? Pictures please:)
Was your donut from Donut Plant? They have my favorite donuts of the moment.
May have to make a visit tomorrow:)
http://eyeglasses.go-optic.com/DFRAMES/images/Madison_8619.jpg
Here is a link. Mine are dark brown.
(Of course you didn’t want a photo of ME in them!)
I dunno where my donut came from. Some kid brought them in to work. I am going to give him money to get me some later on when the craving hits.
@ KDramaFan -
Donut Plant! You mean the one in Greenwich Village? Lovvvve those fried creme-filled squares of joy, even though I don’t always make it there when I’m in NYC.
Happy Friday! I was about to put myself under a drama ban for midterm week, then failed miserably when the latest Flower Boy Band episodes got subbed
There are so many upcoming dramas I’m excited about – 2012 is a great year already. Lots of noona romances these days though. Not that it’s bad, but I wonder if it’s because hallyu leading ladies don’t get lead roles as young as the men do. I mean, I can think of a whole bunch of leading men of age 25 and under: Lee Min Ho, Jung Il Woo, Sung Joon, Yoo Seung Ho, Kim Bum, Kim Soo Hyun, not to mention idols like Yoochun and Taecyeon. Just over 25 are actors like Lee Seung Gi, Song Joong Ki, Yoo Ah In, and Jang Geun Seok.
Whereas the only 25 and under list for the ladies is (at least for me) much more difficult to think of: Moon Guen Young, Jung So Min, Park Eun Bin, Park Bo Young, Park Shin Hye, Ham EunJung, and a bunch of idol girls.
I think it’s army duty that gives us the noona romance and also the wan jun ahjussi to 19 year old lead actress roles too.
Anyone her who feels like the last weeks for Moon Sun is not enough? I feel this way since there were less SKINSHIPS and couple-y moments were very much rare. While most of the show has been spent on “is-she-YW-or-not-and-can-you-give-up-everything-for-her talks, I think the rest of the drama will be spent on the reunion then the “pseudo-fall” aka you-thought-they-are-done-but-not-quite-yet then avengers strikeback after tha the resolution. I’m not saying that it isn’t good but it should have been titled “the moon that FORGETS the sun” (oh yeah.. Sorry for throwing hysterics.. :p)
By the way what’s the title of the song that plays after the episodes?
Do you mean Back In Time by Lyn
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkx8o6i_X0w
I just heard a song by lyn that I thought was by jisun. I like the song and lyn’s voice over jisun’s.
Hi All!
I’ve never been so happy to see a Friday before. This week has been a beast!
I’m going to put a hit out on ‘Lovebug’ for her enthusiastic commentary on ‘We Got Married’ last OT. It’s like the best thing ever! So addicting. Love. Love. Love the ‘Lettuce Couple.’ Seems like they’d be really fun to have drinks with. I now completely understand Kim Hyun Joong fans. I still think he’s an acting fail, but he’s pretty incredible in his own element. And I totally want to be like Hwangbo when I grow up and I’m completely jealous of her body. Makes me want to hit the gym hard.
Sad to see ‘Wild Romance’ go. It had it’s issues, but I was satisfied. Fun while it lasted, but seriously…that kiss should have been so much better. So frustrating.
I’m afraid to watch Ep. 8 of DH2, but the preview makes it look like it’s going back to Stupidville and my week has been stressful enough without adding that to the mix.
SUFBB continues to charm me to bits. Sung Joon is just fascinating to watch. I seriously miss his face when he’s not in a scene. I also felt this way when watching ‘Lie to Me’, even though his character was a crybaby punk. I loved the introduction to the family members at the record company. Hajin’s face when he comes trailing in behind his ‘ladies’ is priceless.
Gah…such a long post. I need a drama buddy in real life, so that I can stop torturing the OT.
Morning, CS!
Another innocent lured into the WGM cave…welcome!
Glad to see you discovering the magic of my cyber-husband with his first wife. Those eps are my ‘happy place’ – never fail to make me laugh. Did you see the blind date eps with SS501 & Wonder Girls? The dance-off was crazy good!
DH2 has finally reached a clear path and is now enjoyable watching. The aimless musical interruptions are gone and now the plot is pushed forward. Apparently, the writers woke up, looked around and found a direction.
Gah…I totally wanted to be at that party! Even though the awkwardness was still there Hwangbo and hubby really worked well together to make everyone comfortable. Such a cute episode, but if I was Hwangbo those cute young things would have never been able to cross my threshold. You know they were probably sneaking glances at her hubby when her back was turned…I know I would, lol
DH2 is sooo much better, but much like ‘Wild Romance’, I get really annoyed when they start messing around with my OTP. I’m so happy they stopped with the musical numbers. That was the worst thing ever. I would have dropped the show immediately if it weren’t for Jinwoon. Who I’d never even hear of prior to this show?
Jinwoonie…don’t you love his little chicken hawk nose?
Yeah, it really is a little beak, no?
I just want to feed him corn and chase him around the yard, lol.
Sidenote: I really need to start proofreading my post. Geesh.
Yay Cruelsummer!!!! I know it sooo good. My mom is still watching it a week later (away from my influence)!! I have been so addicted that is been hard to make the transition back to dramas! But i must, this weekend I have to return to my true love and get my drama fix!
Your Mom is cool. My Mom would just call me corny and wonder if she actually gave birth to me.
I love that it’s giving me a chance to step away from my dramas. It saves me from having anxiety attacks while waiting for subs
Kim Hyun Joong makes me happy. Kim Hyun Joon in WGM makes me want to travel in time, kidnap Hwangbo, disguise myself as her, and experience the KHJ WGM awesomeness.
I think JoAnne is working on some kind of teleporting system that will make this happen. Hwangbo’s reputation will be in shreds and the marriage dissolved due to excessive skinship.
Last two episode of Fermentation Family this week. I can’t wait to settle down and watch it.
Happy Friday Beanies!
I was hoping there would be an extension of this awesome show! I’m going to watch episode 23 as soon as my boss leaves ( In half an hour!!!!) I’m really going to miss it. It did all the things I liked about the latter part of gourmet as well as the romance is so perfect. Usually I have to yell at the couple to hug each other when they’re having a hard time. But how awesome is it that they do it so naturally. Song Il Gook is perfect, Park Jin Hee is Park Jin Hee.
I just finished 23. I tried not to cry! I don’t mind even when they lay it on thick.
Oh noes! Tears? *prepares self mentally* Than again, I really shouldn’t be surprised that I’ll be crying.
By the way, I for got to mention that I too LOVE how the main couple (or resident OTP) in F-Fam are always hugging. There were so many hugs going around (AND handholding) that I’m satisfied. We haven’t had a kiss since the last time, but I find that realistic considering the ton of things they’re going through right now.
Crying? Over Fermentation Family? I’m not even through Episode 7. I cried when Ho Tae ran toward Eun Bi and picked her up and swung her around a couple episodes ago, but I was laughing and smiling while I did it. Something made me a little weepy last night too (so, Episode 5 late, through Episode 7 early) but I can’t remember what. Loving this. Just loving it.
Hahaha. I hope you’re in for the long haul JoAnne. It’s such a good drama. There are tears, laughter, and heart-tugging moments that don’t necessarily make you cry but make you warm and fuzzy all over. For your sake I’ll keep in mind after I’m done watching F-Fam to let people know I’m about to reveal spoilers when I repost on OT. X)
Oh, I’m in it for the long haul. I actually expect to be done with it before the next OT, since they’ve only got one more episode to post. I haven’t marathoned anything since White Christmas, in December…this feels good.
How awesome is it that there was no “rival” to either one of the OTP… just like real life. That is the one thing I dislike about kdrama … the writers always seem to feel that there needs to be competition to get the “drama” going.
Right? And without the usual pesky love triangle/square/polygon/etc, we were able to focus on the stories that count. The stories that I want to see were front and center and I kiss the feet of the writers of this drama for doing that.
I deliberately prolonged my watching the final two episodes so as to hold on to this gem in Fermentation Family for a little bit longer….
Anyway, finished it last night – really satisfying including that final kimchi in ep 24. Never thought about a seafood kimchi and the seafood rice steamed in a whole baby pumpkin. Just talking makes me drool!!
Of course, the exquisite food is one of the many memorable things from this wonderful drama. All the characters and their own stories, the superb and natural acting, the cinematography, the music and the overall unique combination of serenity and also intriques that you don’t find often in other dramas.
I’m going to get the DVD for keep and also checking out those yummy dishes when next in Korea. Anyone knows where we can get them?
I’m going to miss its characters and the food.
Happy Friday everyone!

You’re welcome. It looks awesome.
Thanks a lot!:D And sorry I misspelled your name:p
Not really spelled wrong. I just have nicknames and variations.
Happy OT Friday everyone!!
I have finally got back to watching Dramas this week! Due to Shut Up flower boyband!! Which is fun <3
But this wasn't really a week I needed to get back into Dramas… ^sigh^
Anyway hope everyone's well!!!
happy ot! I hope you are well. Have a good drama week.
Thank you!! Same to you!!
Happy OT Leaf. What happened to being first?;)
I decided to stop being first and let someone be it
Hence why last week I wasn’t first either
Someone replied me in a OT- cant remember which – if i liked mingdao?
Hmm. It was back in 2005 when the taiwan drama “the prince who turned into a frog” aired. I sort of just liked his pairing with Chen Qiao En and his potrayal of the arrogant shan jun hao and dangou. He used to host this variety show called “the king of adventure” which was nice. He would visit different countries and experienced different cultures.
Thought SETTV really came out with drama series that were nice. My top favourite would be ‘My Lucky Star’. Was really addicted to the drama- OST, the storyline, the chemistry of Xia Zhi Xing and Zhong Tian Qi. The later part of the drama really surprises me. Yoo Ha Na is really beautiful and makes you want to protect her.
Morning Dramabeanies! (Yes, I’m officially adopting JB & GF’s nickname for us dirty ol’ noonas)
In weather news, we went from two days of 50-plus sunshine (in New England, in February!) to a surprise snow storm this morning. Guh.
Happy Birthday Zgznoona! Good luck to your Mom, Raine! Study hard, Oppa! Hang in there, Shel! Leaf, you are getting slow, slow, slow.
Drama updates: SUFBB: omg how do you build from awesome to even more so every freaking minute? Love these boys. Love Su-Ah. BVS: DF, you have serious problems. Hurry up and get right! …Raine, I’m sorry, I slipped and watched an episode of Fermentation Family and have completely let TPM slide. But I’m on episode 7 of FF and LOVE LOVE LOVE. What else have I seen the Han Dol son in? Song Il Guk: want to kiss his face! So sweet. The kids: adorbs. The food: I ordered a cookbook. The uncle and the teacher: ahhhhhh! Please go where I think you’re going. Operation Proposal: Liking everyone but seriously, Ji Won is such a good guy…I’m actually praying that Yi Seul and Back Hoe AREN’T meant to be. DH2: Ok. I now seriously like that JB kid, since his face has begun moving. I’m a little surprised by the suddenness of his romantic about-face, though. Still – enjoying where this is going, even though there are characters who seem to be just standing on the sidelines and not getting much story and making me wonder if that will change. COMPLETELY irritated by Ri-An and Dong Soo or whatever her name is, that irritating girl who can talk to spirits. CRUSHING HARD on the principal. Seriously…feelin’ the ahjussi love, here.
Movie Updates: Alua, I watched Castaway on the Moon – have you seen it? What a sweet, funny movie. Seriously, laughed hard so many times, and then in the end was completely touched. I am not familiar with either actor but did get a chuckle out of the delivery guy, who is one of the friends in Operation Proposal.
Looking forward to: Towel Slip Dr. Jin, Rooftop Prince, 12 Men in a Year, Arang…LMH in Faith?
Ha! See, last week was a practise run at me not bein first! As I came second I sorta failed ^sigh^
But this week I did much better!! Yay!!
My quest not to be first has been completed!!!
Being the leader can be tiring and burdensome. Sometimes backseats are better.
Exactly! I felt it was time someone else bared that responsibilty!
Thanks JoAnne
JoAnne –
It did cross my mind that BH and YS would NOT get together in OP, but that would result in too much unhappiness all around. Remember how much her parents and friends are pulling for them?
BH would have to have something else really BIG to be able move on, and he would never have adressed his biggest failing – lack of confidence in himself. It would be tragic!
I don’t think making him a pro ball player would be a warm enough resolution.
Maybe he could keep growing his hair through-out the drama, learn swordmanship, then rather than time travel back to 2000′s, he goes to JOSEON times and saves himself from his Una fate?
YES!
Yes!!!!
Although…I keep wondering who the Conductor is. 49 Days has me convinced that the Conductor isn’t simply some baseball loving fan. I say he’s Future Baek Ho. Or possibly a descendant. Or even the little boy who throws eggs at Baek Ho. But mostly, I say he’s Baek Ho.
and I can’t help thinking that everyone is ‘pulling’ for them in the real present simply because Baek Ho is so clearly pining for her and they love him. Yi Seul certainly seems to be content with Jin Won. (And talk about a man who can wear a suit, will ya…nice, nice, nice.) If BH had manned up earlier, I think everyone would definitely have been on board. But now that ship has sailed, and I think they just feel bad for him.
I think the whole reason he keeps going back is because he clearly has some growing to do – as opposed to going back specifically to end up with her. I guess I hope that some of the growing will be recognizing that Yi Seul was his first love, but not his last.
I also think he is the conductor, who appears to be quite happy, btw.
So maybe Future BH is giving himself the chance to put his whole body, mind, soul and heart into the effort of going after YS, but it is the journey that matters, not the destination.
That being said, if he does NOT end up with her, that would make me, YSH and happiness 0 for 2, and I would have to kill a writer…again!
Jomo – ding ding ding ding ding! That’s EXACTLY what I think (hope) this is about.
Conductor is so cute, too…Enjoying him. He was the cop in Ahjussi but I haven’t seen him in anything else. LOVE the grin.
Ok. I think that I will now wait until end of series to decide whether to watch. I don’t like “surprises” in my OTP.
If they don’t end up together, I’ll swear off Kdramas for a month! Okay, maybe a week.
OMG! Yes Jomo!!!! Long live Una!!!!!
JoAnne! I was looking for you. *Waves, very excited to have someone shout out to me on the OT before I have even gotten here*
Just finished work, which was less stressful than expected because some students didn’t show up for scheduled tutorials and the seminar I did on Comics in Translation actually was fun!
No, I haven’t seen Castaway from the Moon – bookmarking that NOW. Actually sounds like something to watch on a Friday evening, but I won’t! simply because I’m determined to review every film I watch and I have SUCH A BACKLOG of reviews to write and too many films scheduled to see (like 5 next weekend as part of a film festival
). Still only have notes for Treeless Mountain review I promised you. I’m working on it, but I might postpone it until Korean Blogathon Week (March 5-12)…
But I did see fabulous movie this week, 風の又三郎 ガラスのマソト (Kaze no Matasaburō: Garasu no masoto/The Glass Cape), a 1989 oldie which the Japanese embassy here screened and it was so so lovely! Unexpectedly enchanting. Sadly, it’s a pretty rare film so chances are you’ll never see it.
Also saw 여배우들 (Yeobaewoodeul/Actresses) as part of the Korean Cultural Centre’s film night screenings, which was good, but not amazing. Still need to review that one too.
Dramawise (I’m so hijacking your post to write about my film/drama viewing):
-Keep on loving SUFFB, I agree with you, it keeps getting better.
-Wild Romance: still adore the robot and Dong-Ah the most and agree with everyone else that there was too much Jessica and not enough wild romance with the main couple. Overall a good drama, but they could have made so much more out of it. Ah well.
-Seinaru Kaibutsutachi: Is anyone else watching this? Talk about creepy. That drama creeps me out. Like psychologically creep me out. Not too realistic (but I don’t think it is meant to be) but I think they are trying to convey this sort of ‘Lord of the Flies’ message and exposing the evil that hides deep in people. Oh my. I’m only saved by the eye candy of Okada Masaki and the fact that his character remains ‘pure’ (better stay that way!).
Other than that, there are all kinds of dramas I want to start watching but haven’t gotten to. Busy week ahead, need to prepare a conference paper and work on the PhD generally. And finish this really boring book review (on an academic book).
I’m sitting in the Korean section of the School of Oriental and Africans Studies (the best uni to study non-European things in London) by the way. It’s totally disorganised but I eventually managed to find the book on Korean cinema that I was hunting for. Really like the rooms they have got at SOAS (compared to my own uni’s) but I’m starving so I should head home soon.
I’m so in love with your academic life, Alua…
I am making note of Seinaur Kaibutsutachi, since I like to be creeped out. If you ever run across the rare one online mention it in a future OT and I’ll try to see it.
Castaway still had me chuckling and thinking about various scenes a couple days later, and I do love a movie that can be funny and still have something to say about human nature. Wherever I read the review said it was about the isolation some feel in society today, but I don’t necessarily agree with that. At least, not yet. Still thinking about it. It was much more about the strong drive human beings have to make connections and live their lives than it was about how society can isolate those who don’t fit in, to me.
Why are you in love with my academic life?!?! *feel free to write that 100,000 word thesis for me by the way… actually, that’s not the part that scares me. The part that scares me is being grilled during the oral defense. Fortunately I still have a couple of years to mentally prepare for that*
I don’t think Matasaburō is the kind of film one will ever come across online. (Well, maybe.) Which is too bad. It’s actually based on an apparently very beloved Japanese children’s book, with Matasaburō being this boy that comes to a remote town on the 210th day of the year, and the village children believing that he is the son of the wind good (because he appears on the 210th day). I love this fairy tale aspect. Actually ordered the children’s book (which has been translated).
Your take on Castaway sounds interesting. I like when movies on serious issues still manage to throw humour in. And movies you still end up thinking and/or chuckling about a few days later, those are the ones!
*wind god {hate typos!!!}
I knew what you meant. I’m going to look through Hulu’s Criterion collection, and Mubi’s catalog. If anyone would have it online, it would be them. Failing that, there’s the book!
Forgot to answer your question…mostly because I love ANY academic life, but especially those centered around language and books. I am well aware that there is lots of hard work involved (especially coming up for you!) The thought of being responsible for putting new, serious thought out into the world – amazing and terrifying, no?
Gosh, you are optimistic about academia.
There is, ummm, a lot of BS here (especially with a certain pressure to publish).
And although we put out new, serious thought, I’m not sure if it’s of much use (some is, of course). I mean, I can’t pretend that what I research is of any relevance to anyone at all, it’s just the luxury of the West that we can intellectually entertain ourselves. Which I enjoy… but I don’t have any illusions about it!
@alua: a good way to prep for the oral defense is to get published at conferences and defend your work among the academic elite.
Within 4 months of starting my master’s program, my advisor submitted a paper I wrote to a conference and it was accepted. Then you get to present the paper at the conference and defend your paper (because the people who attend conferences do ask a lot of questions).
By the time my Ph.D. orals came around, I had already defended my work at 10 conferences in 4 years all across the U.S. In addition, I was able to get feedback from those conferences and incorporated negative feedback in my paper (thereby cutting off that line of argument as I anticipated it and responded). The first one is scary but it does get better in time. One of the lecturers who was on the Orals panel told me that because I anticipated where the attacks were going to come from, there was very little they could do to trip me up (which put a big smile on my face as that was my goal).
@Hilary… What did you do your PhD in? *curious*
I have actually been at a quite a few conferences already (5 and one coming up next week). Admittedly mostly PG ones (with one exception), so I need to face more established scholars for sure. Haven’t had too many useful questions at conferences thus far, which is in part because I’m with a foot in three different fields (yeah, I have three feet
), one of which involves computers. I’m not technological enough for the computer conferences, but I’m too technological for humanities ones. So often it isn’t possible to have a conversation at a level where it would be most useful, because I have to explain either the technology-based methodology, literary/linguistic concepts or translation theory.
Though you would not know it by reading my posts (too many grammatical errors … LOL … I cringe when i re-read my posts), my major was in computer science, specifically computational linguistics, natural language processing and artificial intelligence. So, I essential used machine readable dictionaries to develop programs that understood the written/spoken languages.
While the first conferences were low key, my advisor was well known in the field, so we were able to do joint papers that got me in the door (and were published) at the bigger conferences for computational linguists. And I got to present as I was the primary author. It helped that no one else was researching my topic at that time … when I first started the MS program, my advisor provided me with a list of several topics that she said were really important in the field but where there was very limited research. I just happened to select one of the most under-researched … just my luck.
Keep up the good work and don’t give up on the conferences. They do pay off even as they are a pain to prepare.
@Hillary Ah! I like your topic. See, one of my ‘feet’ is in Corpus Linguistics and I use corpus software (WordSmith Tools) and corpora (BNC, COCA, etc.) for literary analysis.
I’m always eyeing those Computational Linguistics and NLP conferences, but they are too technical for me.
Ha, now I want to read your PhD, although I probably wouldn’t understand most of it!
My thesis had to do with the semantic knowledge (case theory) that is inherent in verbs. I posted link of paper below which describes it (the paper was in a book of NLP essays as memorial for industry pioneer). I don’t think it is too technical because it essentially discusses the “natural language” part of our system, as opposed to our program. If I were you, I would definitely find some way to bridge the gap to get published in a NLP forum. They ask a hell of a lot of questions

Am I the only one in serious 1N2D withdrawal ? I have been crying buckets for the whole week now, and I don’t think they will dry anysoon…
happy OT everyone!
checking after a long time
moonsun is epic! just when you think it could not go any better, it goes off with a blast much louder that the last one you’ve heard. that is the effect of moonsun.
wr *shakes head* *sighs* but for all that it’s worth it, writer-nim is good… case is, they wrongly classified the drama genre… it is so not romance but thriller/horror. and i still love to watch it… waiting for even the tiniest interaction of the OTP… well cf course kim-kim still the best.
terribly missing OB… i am not in withdrawal tho… no symptoms whatsoever… (in denial forever).
Hey, everyone!
Love reading all the comments
.
Soo last year I started to watch kdramas and I’ve been such a fan of them that I started a little picspam with all the kdramas I watch last year. Today I finally wrote my little reviews and opinions for all of them, so here it is…
My 2011 K-Dramas!: http://gravityofdreams.livejournal.com/11528.html
Too late, but whatever. I’m so happy to have discovered kdramas! And this site. Nice people around here
!!
Welcome, gabilu!
Is this your first post here?
Welcome!
@gabilu: I enjoyed your post and agreed with most of your ratings. Good for you.
You just need to switch the descriptions of My Name is Kim Sam Soon and Lie to Me.
Morning guys,
Its snowing here in Burnaby and I’ve got a midterm in two hours. Ugh!!! But I couldn’t resist not coming to this website.
What I’m Loving:
Shut up: Flower Boy Band: OMG!!!! The boys are so good. And a good story, with realistic teenage scenarios makes the show wonderful to watch.
History of a Salaryman: I glad of the extension of this show cuz I always wondered how they’re gonna tie up all the loose ends together. There is also alot of story left, as Yoo Bang hasn’t really become a big name in the business world. and then there’s the battle between him and Hang woo.
Since I love Jung ryeo woon (yeo chi) in HOTsm so much. I decided to check out her other dramas. And i’ve started watching Ja Myung Go. I’m currently watching the first episode. and I’m already eyebrow raising at some scenes, particularly the crying scene of the prince…I was like what the hell?! He was going on something about showing mercy to the people of the land they conquered and started crying. And that caught me off guard to the point I actually asked my screen: “Why are you crying?” But I’ve been through Legend with Yon sama (please remind me never to watch anything with Lee Ji ah ever again), which was not the best show, so I’ll be able to go through this as well if only becuase this show has jung ryeo won in it and i’m actually curious to see how the story is going to get.
I should also get back to watching A thousand days’ promise.
Looking forward to: Time Slip Dr. Jin, Chilling romance
Fingers crossed for your midterm!
Gahhh!!!! it was terrible, thanks though!
I was over at KShownow.net and caught the eng. subbed ep of ‘Healing Camp’ with Big Bang – specifically, it’s Daesung’s first lengthy interview after his accident.
That poor kid – he’s the sweetest thing. It’s a miracle that he didn’t attempt suicide (although he spoke about wanting to). I very rarely get teary while listening to idol interviews. This one made me cry.
These Big Bang members have such a tough persona – and yet one poke reveals the soft goo…. if you have time, I recommend watching it.
oh thank you for telling me about it…we all know how I feel about TOP, and now that I’ve seen What’s Up I just adore Daesung too – and his story is so sad, I’m happy to know that he is on his way back up emotionally.
Yes, he still can’t look anyone in the eye (something the interviewers pointed out, much to the discomfort of everyone involved) but when he smiles…well, you just want to hug and squeeze the breath out of him.
What really bothers me is how he isolated himself after the accident and people allowed it to continue. I just don’t get it.
I noticed that he has problems looking people in the eye. That poor boy has been through so much. I too want to just give him hugs!
I had noticed the shyness and then seen it carried over into What’s Up, but since I didn’t ‘know’ him before all this, I didn’t know that his hesitation and timidity were relatively new until last week, watching some older videos of theirs. I recognized that he appeared to be much more confident in the past, but I also thought it could just be that he’s got that showmanship gene that lets him be one person ‘on stage’ and another in his personal life. ‘Look at me, Gwi Soon’ had me rolling…he was such a confident, hammy, comic performer.
As for isolating himself, all I had read was that he retreated to his church – which apparently has an active mission – and that while he might have removed himself from his work life, he was surrounded by people who were watching over him, all the same.
It’s interesting. He did the variety show ‘Family Outing’ with Jae Suk, Hyori, Chundarella, etc., and he really showed a bright and funny personality. There was one episode where he was tattling on TOP to Jae Suk and it was hysterical when TOP overheard him and went after him.
He was fairly regular on that show (it was Season 1), so it was easy to see his real personality. He was happy, mischievous and all-around a good kid.
As far as his being isolated, I had also thought like you – that he had lots of support, etc., but after hearing what he had to say, it was obvious that he self-isolated for months, never leaving his room until he began attending his church. He was too ashamed to face his family or group members. It’s a miracle that he was able to pull out of such a depression. One curious thing, there was never a mention of any psych counseling – it seems to be a verboten activity in Korea. If you watch the Healing Camp ep., let me know your reaction? Oh – and there was a terrific (and funny) long Rain interview, just before his Busan concert. You’ll likee.
Just watched all of both, minus part 6 of the Healing Camp – my computer shut that down with a virus on Adfly, for those who come after.
Thoughts:
Daesung’s parents brought that boy up right. He is a complete love. I want to hug him. And not in my normal filthy filthy noona way, either.
GDragon…on that subject, I just think the whole thing was shocking from the get-go. That they could call him in and test him because someone said he LOOKED LIKE HE WAS HIGH ON STAGE? No. Also, since marijuana is not such a big deal in this country, I find the whole thing hard to fathom. But, accepting that different cultures are different, ok, it’s a big deal there. Still, I felt having him follow Daesung almost cheapened the unarguable seriousness of what Sungie went through. And I’m not entirely convinced our young Mr. Jiyong really didn’t know what was happening. There’s the guy who can’t meet your eye because he’s crushed and ashamed, and the guy who can’t meet your eye because he’s telling a story. YaknowwhatImean?
As for my beloved: he is so charming and handsome and focused on making money! I love my baby boy
I’m glad you took a few minutes to watch it until the rampant viruses on the site found you. My Norton kills them all and then proudly notifies me.
Yeah, your take on GD was the same as mine. C’mon boy – you didn’t know what weed smells like? Give me a break. And when someone hands you a tube of ganja disguised as a ‘cigar’, don’t take it, especially with the weak “I was drinking” excuse. Have to admit that the interviewer with the glasses really held GD’s toes to the fire.
You missed ep 6 of the interview? So you didn’t get to see TOP’s electric teal hair?! A truly fascinating color.
The Busan interview with your man-hunk was good – did you ever watch ep 27 of Strong Heart with him? Just watched it yesterday – pure gold!
awww Daesung-ee, I’m glad he pulled through and hopes he continues to! Of course it’s much harder since everyone knows about it compared to an average person getting into that type of accident.
Hello Readers:

Not In Love Lyric
I saw your picture hangin’ on the back of my door
Won’t give you my heart
No one lives there anymore
And we were lovers
Now we can’t be friends
Fascination ends
Here we go again
Cause it’s cold outside, when you coming home
Cause it’s hot inside, isn’t that enough
I’m not in love
I’m not in love
I’m not in love
I’m not in love
Could it be that time has taken it’s toll
Won’t take you so far, I am in control
And we were lovers
Now we can’t be friends
Fascination ends
Here we go again
Cause it’s cold outside, when you coming home
Cause it’s hot inside, isn’t that enough
I’m not in love
I’m not in love
I’m not in love
We are not in love
I’m not in love
I’m not in love
I’m not in love
I’m not in love
Cause it’s cold outside, when you coming home
Cause it’s hot inside, isn’t that enough
I’m not in love
I’m not in love
I’m not in love

Lee Min Ki [이민기 / 李民基], Shut Up: Flower Boy Band [닥치고 꽃미남밴드 / 闭嘴! 花美男乐队]
Actually the song was sung originally by a band called ‘Platinum Blonde’. Sadly, I’m old enough to remember that
Awesome…I love this thread. I learn something new every week! I had only heard the Crystal Castles/Robert Smith version. Thank you!
Been listening to it non stop since last week!!
Me too.
It’s a good thing I use headphones because I think the neighbours would have started hammering on the walls already otherwise!
Weeee! I’m kinda back (I’m watching Once Upon a Time right now teehee)
From the last time I’ve been here there were so many wonderful suggestions for stuff to watch and I’m utterly grateful to everyone. Cheers!
I discovered Ratatat today. They are just wonderful!!!
I wish for a lovely weekend to everyone!
My weekend playlist says Hello! DB team! I love the song!
Good morning DB OTers! It’s 1-ish a.m. Saturday in Laya’s part of the world, and I thought I’d check DB before going to bed.
Hope you have a happy weekend!
Mom and I watch the local dub of City Hunter on a local channel. I keep trying to convince her to watch the DVD, but she hates the bad subs and would much rather just listen to the local dub. And then she falls asleep and has to ask me what she missed and stuff like “who is that man? (Seo Yong Hak) and why is Johnny (Yoon Sung) after him now?” I’m glad she fell asleep though because it was the rooftop kiss and I’d have felt kind of embarrassed watching it if she was awake. Dunno why. But I’ve noticed LMH’s kisses look hot
They’re exceptions to the usual kisses that make people wonder why they look so stiff (remember Brilliant Legacy and that hanging bridge?). Now I’m remembering the “Game over” scene in Personal Taste.
Gawd, I’m not gonna sleep at this rate
We need an Abs-Over kiss from Mr. Hand Towel, I think.
JoAnne, I might not fall asleep at all then
Happy Weekend, Laya! So good to see you early/late on the OT
/hugs cmr.
I was going to sleep, I promise. Then I went to this post one last time, so… /facepalms self.
Speaking of sleep, I have a question for the OT… which Korean actors/actresses/drama characters do you dream of, if ever? Because KNG, LMH and SJK keep showing up in my dreams, lol. Funny thing is, I dream of being close to/”friends” with LMH and SJK, but with KNG, I’m still a fan looking from a distance. /sigh.
I have had dreams about cha seung won, ji chang wook ( he was my dream abs guy last week while on medication) It’s rare that I have dreams about famous figures.
Jumma Bunny Love! Hihi
I had a dream about CSW as well during the height of my Best Love watching (which was a few mths after everyone else’s, of course). It was weird though. Either I was dealing with him on a totally fannish basis, or there was some strange fourth wall/non-fourth wall interaction… I can’t remember exactly how it went now, but even then I thought it was odd.
I agree with you, Jumma, I rarely dream of famous folk.
There there, laya. That’s how the OT works. You swear you’re only going to skim, then somewhere around post 2.1.1.3.14 you realize you’ve been on for 2 hours straight and there’s 30+ sets of threads to look at, not including all there replies.
I am hoping, though, that you are a-sleeping while I’m posting. Just saying.
PSST !!! Raine ! I have news for you about your hubby.
http://www.hancinema.net/top-k-pop-star-rain-to-serve-as-entertainment-soldier–39156.html
Entertainment soldier ? Can i choose the meaning of this, because i know exactly how to be entertained by that Man.
My thoughts at 1:00 PM on Friday at my work desk:
Scented oil, a pole, and body waves under the moonlight.
I sincerely doubt that this is what the S. Korean military had in mind.
And people ask me why i have mixed feelings about military… Pole dancing should be part of the soldiers training. I wonder if they have an equivalent of Pi in NK ( since Spy Myung Wol plan failed so pitifully ).
Excuse me? No. MINE MINE MINE MINE MINE.
Just read the article…two thoughts:
I wonder why the switch?
Rain as a drill instructor omg my fantasy life is now complete…although his cadence calling in that one video left something to be desired, I assume that’s because he was trying to be a bit musical, and in another language. No baby. Give me the drill voice.
Should I say it? Or should I let Cynthia, or YY?
I will.
Drill me, baby.
Unni, drill is the funnest word.
My sister and I were at a friend’s and we were all hanging with her 4 year old who had dressed up her Justin Bieber doll as a dentist.
I mentioned that Rain and other K-drama guys are a lot prettier and that a guy that pretty could ‘drill me anytime’
Yes, I was drinking beer. No, the 4 y/o mother wasn’t drinking beer and the 4 y/o was buried in the closet looking for her Tinkerbelle costume.
But, I was pretty typsy and it became the talk of the circle for a few weeks. “You need to schedule a drilling?” “Yes, yes I do.”
Damn. We really need to publish a relation chart somewhere in DB. I’m all embroiled.
I’m just trying to find an in. All the guys I want are taken and no one is trying to share
Are you confused over ownership?
Hmmm…the lines in the sand are well-defined in MY head….
Alright I’ll start. The following men have been MINE’d.
Leaf – Bummie
JoAnne – Rain
Raine – PSH
Shirinnoona – Gong Yoo
Cynthia has Kim Hyun Joong
Love how I am first
He wanted active duty but the military isn’t dumb enough to challenge a world of fangirls!
Entertainment soldier. *Cue music, lights, silk sheets and running away from JoAnne unni….*
No, there would be no running away.
LOL! Oh the mental image!
This statement has a creepy Kathy Bates ‘Misery’ feel to it
Ok. There would be no running away, and there wouldn’t be any broken ankles, either.
But there would be handcuffs and beds, right? Or, in your case, camp cots?
Yes to all the above. Plus hot wax, warm oil, scarves, feathers, honey dust….costumes….
ok going away now.
WAIT! I forgot ice cubes. Ice cubes are important.
He is too precious for the SK economy. Seriously, sending him to the front line and risking injuries ? He can do that later in his next movies and dramas. Even on the stage : imagine a muddy Rain with a panel ” free hugs “.
LOLOL FREE MUDDY HUGS! If jump through the computer screen powers haven’t been invented yet, it would be as soon as the images were up!
Rain, standing next to Lee Min Ho in that muddy field from the beginning of City Hunter…
My work here is done.
THAT is one hell of a good picture
But I’m sure we could add to it!
Like the not so covert perverts we all are here…
That’s us, alright. The Not So Covert Perverts.
But really, child…there is nothing perverted about admiring God’s many gifts to us.
“entertainment soldier” has only one connotation for me: bachelorette party
LMAO!
Between Joanne and her “drill” comments, cruelhammer and her “pole” comments and you and your “bachelorette party” comments, I only have one thing left to say: It is getting hot up in here … LOL!
Happy Friday everyone!
I’ve recently finished Bump Off Lover, a Taiwanese drama about a 17 year old girl investigating the death of her identical twin sister. I picked it up after seeing someone on mydramalist rec it for those who enjoyed White Christmas. It is also a psychological thriller/mystery, and the plot was pretty good, but sadly I didn’t enjoy it nearly as much as I did WC. Partly because it was made in 2006 so the production values weren’t as good as I was used to, partly because some of the moral messages rubbed me the wrong way, and partly because I guessed who the guilty party was halfway through so the reveal didn’t shock me as much. But this is a series where I realllyyyy hope they would remake it as a kdrama, because it would be so much more enjoyable with better production values (-and prettier actors-).
I’m so excited to see this Bump Off Lover mentioned! I remember watching this in 2007 and thinking it was one of the best TWdramas I’d seen. I didn’t guess who the killer was as soon as you did, just kind of enjoyed it. Judging from your post, I should really watch White Christmas.
I agree that Bump Off Lover would be really interesting remade into a Kdrama, although hopefully they could add some more levels of mystery to the plot and change the villain, so those of us who’ve seen it will be left guessing too.
whimsyful! WHITE CHRISTMAS! Yay, another lover of WC!
I didn’t know about mydramalist. I’m joining now…
Whimsy! Where would I find this drama to watch?
I dl’ed it, and there are unsubbed eps floating on youtube if you know Mandarin, but there are eng subbed streams here:
http://www.dramaheaven.com/taiwanese-drama/bump-off-lover/watch-online-bump-off-lover-episode-1-14941/
Video quality is pretty bad though.
Happy OT!
I finally watched Shut Up Flower Boy Band. I love it. I watched all 8 eps yesterday. The show is fantastic. I love how they filmed it and the music is perfect. I haven’t been this excited about a show in a longtime.
Am I the only one whose pissed with the events in Wild Romance? The romance took forever and now Dong Soo took the blame for everything and not just the painting incident which he could of said he did because he blamed Jong Hee for his wife’s miscarriage. Can’t they tell that each poem on the back of every picture sent reads like a love letter? Can’t they tell that it was written by a woman?
Before I get sucked any deeper into Comment 1, Happy Weekend OTers!! I’m battling a sinus cold, not sleeping enough, and a serious case of distraction with 2 out of 3.5 bosses out on vacay, but otherwise it’s all good.
I am proud to report that, 3 mths after I started, I have finally finished ep 14 of Protect the Boss! Woohoo!!
Okay, yes, I know how sad that is, but I see it as a turn-back-around on my drama watching. I just didn’t realize how much of a whammy marathon-style watching Twinkle Twinkle did. I promised my sunbae that I’d watch History of the Salaryman next, but Padam Padam is calling me! Suggestions? Votes?
Um…”romantically”, I thought the Hot Spanish Guy had found a new beau. Nope, just new digs
He’s still mine for the drooling! lol
And that’s kinda it. Am I supposed to update on anything else? I have plans to clean and go to the movies this weekend, mayhap even dinner. How are you, OT? *HUGS!*
Oh, and if anyone’s still following, I’ve posted a “found” chapter to my Tell Her stories. I’d forgotten I’d written it
Read it!
*hugs*
I, on the other hand, am behind on Ch. 18! And to think I saw when you posted it.
* high five * No worries. Still plugging away at the plot.
This was the impetus I needed to read it.
OMIGOSH THE CLIFFHANGERS YOU LEAVE US ON!!! And Sethe
Yes
- Sethe was mentioned in a previous chapter as his little sister teaching English in Korea. Now she’s finally back to stir up the pot a bit, along with Leaf. You know, siblings can be a pain in the rear…
Also, the artist mentioned in Chapter 18 really exists. You should look at his metal art as well as his paintings for a feel of how his culture celebrates.
I love finding new artists
/hugs and runs
I’m watching PTB on and off too. Alternating between it and Best Love.
I made it aaaaaall the way to the end of BL and never quite finished it. *hangs head* Thanks for reminding me
*hugs!*
Padam Padam gets my vote.
Seriously, it’s beyond good and intensely romantic.
Hope you feel better!
And it’s got my Bummie, even if he looks underfed (and is now proved to be so
) Certainly all you guys have been so gushy about it, it’s high on my list!
I vote salaryman because it’s funny and fermentation family because it’s so charming and food-y.
I totally want to see Fermentation Family. I was looking to dl it from myac before the megaupload disaster. le sigh. Isn’t it another 50 episoder?
FF is availble in torrent form on d-addicts.com. I don’t know of any place it’s on p2p sharing, though.
I haven’t tried torrents in *years*. Not since I tried while still on dial-up. Probably free dial-up knowing me. Worth a shot though! Thanks, Shuk
I do both, with streaming on the side. I don’t have internet access at work, so I have to download to watch stuff at taxpayer’s expense – lol.
–
I don’t know if you saw one of my previous strings, but ionair.tv has streaming malaysian stuff too. I watched some, and now I have a better idea of how Ricky talks like in Real Life.
–
I was thinking to myself earlier this morning about all the research you’re doing and how cool that is. Yes, I am a geek in real life. Anywho, you seem to be enjoying it.
*adds ionair.tv to list*
@ Shukmeister
Awesome in-depth research!
So how do I talk? I haven’t watch ‘Pisau Cukur’ yet.
But I have to say that a lot of people curse using brand names (at least the ones I know). So “oh my Dior”, “Oh my Dolce” “Goodness Gucci Gucci” are somewhat common.
@YRH – that actually sounds like fun. I wonder if I can incorporate that into my lexicon of non-curses.
@ Ricky!
Glad you appreciate my research, which has taken me farther than I thought (right down to the food!). I have to admit it’s interesting looking into a society where most people have never seen snow and tropical flowers are an everyday occurrence.
From the TV series (KAMI) and the movie (and the youtube stuff), it’s not quite as melodic as Thai but not as gutteral as Korean. I notice that photography is much more conservative than other countries.
Just finishing up Chapter 19; working on everyone in the Harem’s jobs, and getting ready to decipher the strange email from the mysterious woman in the airport.
I started Protect the Boss months ago and I am still on episode 11. My goal is to finish episode 13 by this weekend.
If I can do it in 3mths, you can totally do it in a weekend! SweetiePie fighting!
I think you should move in on Hot 000 Guys before they get snatched up, next time.
LOL! We are so not well matched. Actually, we’re getting “divorced” at the moment. He drinks all the seltzer like its flat water, while I’m saving it for upset stomach times. Plus, I’d been buying it mostly while he kept buying and forgetting to bring it to the office. Our various cubemates are our lawyers
This can only be an amusing past time b/c I’m strenuously against frivolous divorces and hope and plan to be married to one man for the rest of my life, God willing.
Update: We skyped with my sister in pre-op and my mom felt a lot better. She’s gone in and is relaxed because she had everyone around her. I KNEW it was a good idea to bring my laptop.
Great idea! Sending ~speedy recovery vibes~ to Mama Raine!
*more speedy recovery vibes*
oh good, bodes well for her recovery!
Thanks everyone! We just got 2 good news mid surgery call updates! One more hour then momma’s back!
Woohoo! Happy for her progress so far and that the Skyping helped. Raine Omoni fighting!
Update: She came out well and slept soundly through the night.
She MAY need another surgery though so we’re hoping that it’s not necessary and we can bring her home.
KAMSAHAMNIDA!
Yeah Raine!! I’m glad it all went well! Hope the prognosis is good, too.
Yay…..I’m so glad she’s doing well. Here’s hoping that this is it and she won’t need any more. ;0)
I haven’t been watching my hubby in “Take care of us Captain”. I hear him going over his lines in the shower… So, how’s he doing? Anyone watching?
that sounds stalkery.
Why yes, yes it does!
Anyone watching TCOUC? As much as I love JJH, I can’t bring myself to watch… I have heard it is not so good.
JJH is fine, but the drama itself is wtf.
SPOILERS********
He really looks like GHS’s mentor or fatherly figure, not a lover. He’s hot, but seriously : That woman will never have chemistry with a man.
Here is my comment :
Seen ep 13 : Now they are playing the card of the young guy ( flower boy ? ) who falls for his noona heroine. It’s cute, but it really feels artificial in the story. And now we have a love rectangle : Poor Dong Soo ( Chunderella as the flight controller ) is here to decorate. Weird.
They are really trying anything they can to curb the ratings, and it feels like a panic rewriting attempt.
Quick, the end for this misery. And let everyone go to their next hopefully better projects.
I would really like to say something good about this drama, but except the guys are hot and Fluffy ( heroine’s sister ) is cute, i can’t find anything. It’s supposedly a blockbuster drama : Obviously the script wasn’t the priority. And damn, it must be exhausting to be a copilot in Korea : Each flight you have accidents, harassment, suicide attempts…
SPOILER;
SPOILER ALERT;
YOU WERE WARNED;
And have you ever seen such wide aisles on an airplane?? I actually watch the show (even though the subbing is really far behind now) and like it, though I don’t know why.
The unrealistic things just bugs me about it though … how the heck can Australian scenery ever pass for English countryside was one; why she didn’t know what a “date” as in fruit was when I saw dates being used in some of the kimchi recipes in Fermentation Family; why they walk to her house instead of driving the car to it … and have seen car in front of her house before so know it can be done; why a girlfriend would sit in the back seat of her boyfriend’s car; and the aforementioned width of the aisle … as I used to have trouble navigating it with my daughter’s airplane seat and my carryon as I was always bumping into someone’s arm while going to my seat. But I really like the show…LOL.
That’s the problem : And idk, apparently copilots spend their time walking in the plane, chit chatting with everyone. She’s a social worker, not a copilot. I have nothing against GHS as a person, but honestly she’s been miscast for that bad written part ( too young, bad english… ) : If she’s a pilot then I’m a nun. I traveled a bit by plane in my life and i never saw the face of the pilots. Even more now with the terrorism risks : They lock themselves in the cockpit and get down when every passenger has left.
I would have loved to see more of the australian landscape though : It was so green, exotic and beautiful. I loves the mobil home and the old bus. What a scenery.
Hillary@
Spoiler Alert for wide aisles on the plane? Wait – were you being snarky and I just missed it?
Mysitith@
It probably goes without saying that I haven’t watched this. My overwhelming ‘love’ for GHS put paid to that. But it does sound exactly like the criticisms we had for The Musical – both dramas tanking and with the same issues?
Stick a fork in her – she’s done.
You know Cynthia, about GHS : I can’t hate her, really. I have the feeling she must be a nice person in real life. But she also has bad artistic management and coaches, and limited acting capabilities. People who obtain non fitting roles for her are a nuisance for everyone. They don’t help at all.
I wish her good luck for the future, but she’d better give up dramaland as an actress, to focus on something she likes and she does well.
Don’t get me wrong – she seems to be multi-talented in several different areas. She’s well-spoken, has a positive attitude and is passionate about what she does. It’s just that her acting sucks and has been static for the past several years. These last two dramas have been very telling in that respect. It wouldn’t surprise me if her next projects are away from Korea.
@Cynthia: Me being “snarky?” How dare you … call a spade for a spade … LOL.
Or, the pot calling the kettle black….
