Yeo Jin-gu & company in March’s magazines

They grow up so fast. One day they’re playing swindling little tykes as young Jang Hyuk in Tazza, the next day they’re playing teenage warriors as young Jang Hyuk in Tree With Deep Roots (yes it’s him, really, in that one episode), and then suddenly he’s rocking the pompadour, the geek-chic specs, and the suit jackets like a little mini-fashionista in the making. He’s like a young Rain, crossed with Lee Min-ho.

Yeo Jin-gu may no longer be appearing in The Moon That Embraces the Sun, but his popularity is still on the rise. He’s in two magazine spreads for March: The first is for Allure, and the other is for Vogue Girl and features his Moon/Sun co-stars, Kim Yoo-jung and Lee Min-ho. Sigh, can’t they escape the angsty love triangle even outside the drama?

(Fashion-wise, I love that the kids look like fresh, fun kids in the Vogue Girl spread, although it does have the Flock of Seagulls hair as a strike against it. And the crazy New Wave suits.)

how old is this kid again? Still have yet to catch Moon/Sun (a certain Wild Romance is dominating my heart and time at the moment, funnily) but I keep seeing these young'uns everywhere! The ones to lookout for, I bet.

Oh my. I was just looking at the third picture thinking he would have (visually) made a much more convincing Momo than JGS, but that would have been a much too young Momo!

He looks older than 14 to me. Well, maybe. I'm starting to find it harder and harder to judge ages because of these trends to make people look older/younger, the generally younger-looking flower boy look, and so forth...

Of course, that's right (for it's American age), but it's Korean age means he's fifteen now. ^_^

I'm sold on these kids - if they're in a drama, I'm watching it. To be frank, I still think of Yoo Jung as Yeon Woo, not Han Ga In. She seemed to embody the character much better.

Funny I don't have to remind myself. He looks too much like a baby to me. But that's coming from a person who raised 5 younger siblings. I think when he's 21 (by Western count) I'll start singing a different tune. All 3 of them are totally adorable.

THIS is what the West needs to learn! How to dress teenagers and child actors attractively and fashionably, but tastefully. None of those creepy doll-like Fanning spreads.

And man, the new generation is crazy talented, aren't they?

Isn't it ironic that his "older brother" in Giant (Kim Soo Hyun) plays his older self in Moon/Sun?

*sigh* Giant... you were so good in the beginning until the first half. Then you went makjang and should have ended early.

Is this why you're giving us Salaryman with 90% of the old cast of Giant but making it lighter and funnier?

Makjang -- que?

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

Makjang refers to all those over-the-top cliches that dramas love to toss in, a la Winter Sonata: cancer, birth secrets, angsty angsty love triangles, separations, forbidding parents, etc.

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

Haha, I know makjang, it's just I didn't see its presence in the show. Throw in a cliche or two (around the middle of the series) that was imperative to the storytelling but didn't see no makjang. I was just surprised by the comment is all. But eh, it's all subjective.

0

Well then "almost-makjang".

Kang Mo and Jung Yeon's complicated love story of "your father killed mine" + Min Woo (whose father also directly killed Kang Mo's father) to make it a triangle, then Minwoo loving Kangmo's sister, Mi Joo, who ends up having a secret child and running away.

And Jung Yeon's birth mother being unknown to her the entire time. And talking about mother, Jung Yeon's step mother goes from bad to worse and tries to take her husband's life. And then there's all that other conspiracy stuff.

The drama was so perfect in the first half, but then everything went crazy in the second half.

Biscuit: I actually thought it was great how they used all that in an ironic, sometimes even darkly humourous way, with surprising amounts of emotional resonance and more importantly tied in with the structure of the real overarching story. It is actually our generation's closest answer to the two greats Sandglass, Eyes of Dawn.
The details may or may not have worked with us, but the context... it left me speechless!
The only crazy I noted was Jo Pil-yeon's downward spiral, he pretty much exploded towards the end, poetically. But if that's makjang then viva la makjang! :)

He has this look in his eyes that are really intense.

Looking forward to his future projects.
