I miss Baek Hee… Eunjung could have saved this drama for me >< or at least made it bearable. Sigh.

  7. Cabbage

    Awww, the Dream High girls!
Reminds me of Dream High 2.
    Happy thoughts gone.

    • 7.1 Elaine

      Hahahaha, totally.
Dream High 2 is so bad, I don’t even know where to start.

  8. charlie

I cannot believe it’s the 11th podcast already. 11 isn’t really a special number but I guess since it has two 1’s, I remember when the first one came out lol
Looking forward to listening to this one and many more!
    Thanks javabeans and girlfriday!! 🙂

  9. Dorotka

    Thank you!!!!!!!!
I really like listening to you… I even recently re-listened the old ones (for the 4th time?)… but perhaps shouldn’t do it before sleep, I then get those funny dreams… ^^
Anyway, thanks again! (…off to listening…)

    • 9.1 Ris

Hi! I also have a playlist of old podcasts which I listen to at night… I don’t mean to say the podcasts are boring, because I do enjoy them, but listening to replays help me sleep at night. And you’re right–they give me funny dreams, too! 🙂

  10. 10 nuri

Yay!! New podcast! I’d like to hear about operation proposal. Unfortunately I didn’t watched Salaryman.

I’m curious what else you’re saying about Shut up. Durududu

  11. 11 MsScorpion

Wooooow, I was just thinking when the last podcast was and wondering if there’ll be another one soon.

Thank you for reading our minds 🙂

  12. 12 Sienna

Kwak Jung Wook (Maro) is in the same company as L (Hyun-soo), and Jisun (ex-Loveholics, who happen to compose the songs in SU!FBB).

    It’s like a reunion.

    /crawls back into hole

  13. 13 Liam_H

Sorry to hear that you guys can’t comment too much on Salaryman since you’re behind. But would enjoy to hear your thoughts on it whenever you do get a chance to finish it.

  14. 14 cherkell

Woo hoo… the gals are back!!! Perfect timing, since I’ve gotta drive to The City today and needed something awesome to listen to!! Thanks tons!!

  15. 15 kbap

Thanks! 🙂 I’ll enjoy it after work 😀

  16. 16 sara

First time listening to your podcast and I really enjoyed it.
And the song by Yoonhan is really nice.

    Thank you for doing this.

  17. 17 olsen

    Podcast! Yay!
    Thanx <3

  18. 18 Lovebug

At times like this I curse my inability to watch dramas as they air. I really really really want to listen but don’t want to be spoiled. The only thing I am current on is HOTS and it has been excruciating waiting for the next episodes (not to mention subs) to air. Maybe I should really stop feeling the need to marathon all my dramas and succumb to the call of simulcasts…. oteke!

    • 18.1 Saima

      • 18.1.1 nomu nomu nomu

HOTS aka HOTsm aka History of the Salaryman

    • 18.2 Linda165

Why wait for subs? The No Salary Team @ viki had it subbed in less than 24 hours.

  19. 19 theedie

Ooh another podcast, awesome to hear your thoughts again.

I don’t recall if you’ve ever talked about this before, but something fun that you could discuss next time are dramas that you wish had a do-over. Like, the premise was just so amazingly awesome and the potential was there, but the execution was just horribly beyond repair (whether it be because of the acting, directing, music, or any mix of things). I think number 1 for me would be Goong. Other ones that would have been nice would be Boys Over Flowers, Cinderella’s Sister, and Moon.

Anyways thanks again, can’t wait til the next podcast 🙂

    • 19.1 alua

Love that suggestion about talking about “do-over dramas”. Darn, there are so many of those.

I think the problem with Goong though is that the manhwa that it is based on is a mess too. I have never actually watched the drama, because the manhwa put me off! I read a LOT of the manhwa which just goes on and on and gets more annoying and eventually unbearable…. uhhh.

      • 19.1.1 Theedie

I totally agree about the manhwa too. In an ideal world I’d have a Do-over of both the manhwa AND the drama. I love the basic idea of this story, but both were just so disappointing. I’ve come up with my own ideas on how I would have handle the drama, but alas I don’t think my dreams will come true.

    • 19.2 Jules

      Ah, good idea!

Goong… personally, I’d change: the ending (because seriously, after all that angst and “I don’t know how I’ll survive without you by my side!”, she sees him again and is all, “Oh, hey. What’s up?” Argh. I actually assumed that when she was racing home on her bicycle it was because she had a phone date with Shin. But apparently they hadn’t been in contact since she’d left? I… don’t understand.); Shin’s characterisation (he was such a dog-in-the-manger and he clung to Hyo-rin for far too long and treated poor Chae-gyung so badly…).

Yeah, apparently I have issues with this drama. *g*

      • 19.2.1 Theedie

I’d change everything. Directors, actors, story, music, setting, costumes, the whole shebang. The only thing that it really had going for it was cinematography and YEH’s charm. That’s why it’s my number one do over because there’s so much that could have been done to make it better imo.

        • alua

          Wow, it was that bad?

          Glad I spared myself that!

          • Cynthia

No, actually it was good – right up until the last 15 minutes -kinda like WBDS. You go along in your happy cloud, enjoying what you’re watching, mooning over the OTP (or in WBDS’s case, the Bromance Couple) and then it’s a great, big WTF for an ending. But that alone doesn’t take much away from the enjoyment of those other watched hours. Goong still remains as one of my early favorites.

          • Theedie

It’s not the worst k-drama ever, it definitely had its moments. But overall I was just really disappointed because I know it could have been so much better. I think I’m more critical than others when it comes to this drama because I love the idea so much that the disappointment is harder for me. You should really watch it and judge for yourself.

    • 19.3 Rossi

ooh I want to play this game too! I would choose “Mary Stays out All Night” b/c all of the three leads are awesome actors and the plot potential of marriage hijink is so rich and cracktastic. Yet, the drama fail so horrendously in so many ways.

    • 19.4 mihinikki

I LOVED Goong and still do. Maybe because it was only my 3rd kdrama ever, but I love it warts and all. I was re-watching an episode the other day and still getting all teary-eyed over the ridiculous angst! I’m hopeless. But, I’d redo My Princess.

  20. 20 alua

I have never listened to any of your podcasts (in fact I never really listen to any podcasts) but I just have to download this one and listen to your 5 cents on SUFBB!

  21. 21 Cynthia

    Thanks for the Podcast, ladies!

It’s nice to know that playing ‘gross-out’ games at PJ parties will never go out of style. I’m way older than you two, and we did the same stuff back in the Dark Ages!

Looking forward to the next Podcast. Hope you’ll take up time-travel, why every K drama ends up with 15 different titles and the reasons behind the revolving door of main-lead casting. It would also be interesting to hear your take on the current strike and the domino effect it takes on all K-drama.

  22. 22 Tee

wow my first time listening to a podcast and it was great!! I look foward to listening to more in the future 🙂 now I have to go back and catch up on the ones I missed 😉

  23. 23 JoAnne

Thank you for the podcast! Having been one of the ‘just watch a couple more episodes, it gets better’ people – I can say that listening to your thoughts on the drama has clarified my own.

Things I was confused by and just thought it was me, I now realize are faults of the drama. JB being so different and me not understanding why, for example. The ‘bad but not really’ dancing and singing.

Still, I will watch to the bitter (and recently slightly bloody) end, humming the B Song and wondering how JB could adore Rian, then Hae Sung, then Rian again, with nary a breath between them. As long as my Jin Woonie gets some happiness and I can look at that cute little chicken beak nose…I’m good. I’m thinking his song will be for his mom, of course.

…and I’d like to know how NaNa resolves her two suitors situation. Maybe she ditches them and runs off with Ailee.

    • 23.1 Mystisith

      About DH2:
The rookies are supposed to be bad, but they aren’t. The Idols are supposed to be great but are average imo. Conclusion: Everyone has the same good but not exceptional level in acting/dancing/singing, and i don’t even understand why they bother with marks, grades and ranking in that school. I will watch till the end for the few cute sequences here and there (and the male lead–WARNING-WARNING, A STAR IS BORN!!), but the artistic part of that drama is a fail all the way for me. The sudden change in characterization just made me laugh: If they had kept the “everyone is evil” ways of the start, i would have dropped it. That said, changing the psychology of the characters (and the love interests) so suddenly and for no clear reason keeps me from taking this show seriously. The recent Truck of Doom was supposed to bring angst, but seriously… I think we don’t have a pilot in that plane, or it’s a monkey.

      • 23.1.1 JoAnne

        hahahah ‘truck of doom’

When I saw that coming I actually said out loud to the computer “You have got to be sh***ing me.’ I mean, why bother. Sam Dong can still sing, so of course JB will still dance.

As far as grades and marking go, they gave up any pretence of it being a school long ago. It’s a captive stable of auditioners for the super idol group. I don’t even CARE about that, or who gets it.

I want to see my cute little Chicken Beak, and I want to know what happens with Nana and her boys, and I’d kind of like Emo Girl to get some traction with her dad. And go on a date with that cute boy.

I don’t particularly care about JB, that other girl who’s not an Idol, Ailee, or the teachers. And after watching the ridiculous attempt at stunned/shocked/dazed/WHATEVER in the hospital and after….I no longer care a bit about Hae Sung. She phoned in the SJS of performances.

        • Ariel

I stopped watching at ep13 with the “truck of doom” and now debating whether I would like to waste 3 hours of my life until the end. I figured that I’ll just wait for the last 3 episodes then fast forward it to the end because I might get more Jinwoo goodness. I’m insanely in love with his version of Starlight is Falling and You Walking Towards Me. I no longer care about the characters I’m just trolling for downloadable songs.
JB and GF were spot on, the cast did get a lobotomy en masse because it’s 50% discount.

          • asianromance

That’s my relationship with Dream High 2 too, I’m just going in there to listen to the songs (“B list life” is addictive) and to look at Jin-woon/Yoo-jin.

    • 23.2 Linda165

And why is Ailee in one episode and MIA in the next? Really, that intrigues me and keeps me watching 🙂
Oh… and to keep an eye on my new boy toy: Siwoo.

    • 23.3 Anu

I really have no idea where DH2 is heading..I had ditched the lead pairs after the 4th episode itself….Nana and siwoo are the only pair am currently interested in….they do have some cute moments here and there…but their screen time together is so limited:(

  24. 24 kandy

    thank you 🙂

  25. 25 Jas

Ahhh you mentioned Veronica Mars!! That is my favorite American show ever!!! And I really like Flower Boy Band too 🙂
Thank you for another podcast–I have an eye infection so I can’t watch dramas so this was perfect haha 🙂

  26. 26 jcay

Wow! Happy to know that there’s a new podcasts. Here I am making a comment even before I listened to it! Thanks! Off to listen to the podcasts now.

  27. 27 Cassandra

Woot!! New podcast totally made my morning better. 100% agree with your thoughts on Dream High 2, I check my brain at the door when I watch it.

  28. 28 sandrouu21

From Paris, Thank you and you’re so right! overrated, honestly i can’t even watch it properly, it kind of boring.. Moon/Sun (sorry for the fan) and i looooooove Shut up Flower boys too, awesome shows. And true me too, i wondered if the mother would come up. “enough to know what that means for him” so true!

And yeah in Proposal, i don’t know how to feel about it, it cute. I like to watch it and….that’s all 🙂
And Thanks to you i began to watch 1n2d !!!

Lookin forward for your next podcast : D

  29. 29 trotwood

This is hilarious. I was hoping that they would talk about Twelve Men in a Year when they were trying to figure out all the dramas that have started in 2012. Oh well. Is anyone watching that show? No one seems to be talking about it anywhere.

    • 29.1 trotwood

What I meant was I was hoping to hear more about it than what they do say because I cannot find anything about it.

    • 29.2 Mystisith

I’ currently watching ep 10 raw of 12 Men. Not bad. The tone is close to the one of Glowing She: Modern and light. I like how both depict the business world of edition, and the way women deal with their love life.

  30. 30 redfox

whenyou were talking about Shut up I was thinking: hmmyeah, but I really wanna know, so they should write a novel!
and werent you just distracting your minds from the angst and anticipation

  31. 31 ryuu99

agree with the “Strawberry game” on 1N2D.

It’s the most boring game ever. BRING BACK BOKBULBOK!

  32. 32 Laica

Oh wow, awesome! Thank you! 😀

  33. 33 WhiteBirch

I totally agree with javabeans and girlfriday’s opinions on Moon Sun being very overrated and its ratings being overblown and only having good ratings because of context. I mean, I gave it 10 episodes and it went nowhere. I love sageuks, I will normally give sageuks the benefit of the doubt, but when two brothers actually end up pointing a sword at each other because of a woman…that makes it all go downhill. and yes, Yeonwoo is not as well developed as Yang Myung and Hwon. And that lack in writing after the initial worldbuilding is what is making Moon Sun so boring.

    • 33.1 redfox

agreed. I lost interest at ep 8. actually I never had enough to begin with the child actors were cute yes, but…
it doesnt really have heart. it is like tepid water, without tea or even lemon zest. not even hot water with lemon. tepid lemonade without bubbles.

  34. 34 Hanna

You know, Dream High 2 is seriously bad and it has a lot of flaws.

But what I dislike most about it is that after 14 whole episodes I’m not sure 1. who I’m supposed to cheer for, 2. what I’m supposed to cheer for, 3. where is this drama even going.

And it’s not in the sense of Dream High the First, where I was never really sure if I wanted Suzy’s character to be with Kim Soo-hyun’s or Taecyeon’s, but here I’m just .. flabbergasted.

Shut Up, on the other hand .. *swoon at it all*

    • 34.1 xoxobal

My thoughts exactly..We only have several episodes left, but I still dont understand where the drama is going, I dont even understand the initial premise of the show. And not too mention, so many characters, I dont know who are the main and who are the supporting characters.

  35. 35 chillinducky

    thanks for the podcast! WOOT!

Really appreciate your review about Shut up, it’s going on my to-watch list, for sure. The title of the series initially turned me off from tuning into it. And I totally agree about the vanity in music dramas– the polished version of songs vs a raw form, which would make more sense, depending on the context of the drama.

I only watched the 1st episode of Dream High in the first season, didn’t grab me at the first episode so didn’t continue further. That sucks that the actors/idols will still continue to sing amazingly when their character isn’t supposed to be!

Have you guys seen What’s Up? Jo Jeong Suk is amazing and sings horribly in the first episode, because his character has a singing fear. The actor (and the character) has such a powerhouse of a voice! Maybe What’s up can be covered in the next podcast?!

  36. 36 hanie

aww….seeing the picture makes me miss DH.
I watched DH2 for few full episodes but didn’t get the direction where it going. Not to mention nobody, even the so-called underdogs appeal to me to cheer on. Too bad since I really like DH. Not saying that DH didn’t have issues with bad acting but DH2 is unbearably bad, acting & plot wise.

Shut up/SUFBB worked because the relationship btw them feel real to me. The storyline is nothing new but well executed. I’ll miss my Eyecandy when it ends next week. ~sigh

I agreed, Moon is overrated. I like it the first 7-8 episodes but after than the plot feel stagnant and boring. I abandoned it and only read recaps. Hopefully I’ll be able to finish it at later time. Ha!! wonder when it be…

  37. 37 panshel

I watch sageuk dramas for the child actors. I would sometimes drop the drama after watching the opening setup. The back story is always so much more interesting than when they grow up.

After next week’s finale, Shut Up can totally be my all-time favorite Korean drama. I can’t remember any drama that was this good for this long — 14 episodes. Ramyun Shop dragged by the halfway point, so I was praying the second Oh! Boy installment wouldn’t slow, and not only did it not disappoint, it blew all other dramas out of the water. I lurve it so much, it breaks my heart.

  38. 38 Bluefyre

YAY! Podcast time and I totally agree with everything! 😀

You girls make my day^^ Thank you!

  39. 39 doozy

Always fun to listen to! Thanks for another podcast, javabeans and girlfriday!

  40. 40 For The Backup Cast

I could listen to an entire podcast on Shut Up…

Suffub is amazing, I care about all of the characters, and the plot is less about stuff happening to them, than them bouncing off each other and trying to move forward together and grow up. I luff it. I like what you said about why the support characters seem so real – I wouldn’t actually think of Ha Jin or Kyung Jong as support characters, but then i realize they haven’t really had their own storyline or anything, and it blows my mind.

I know you don’t do requests, but if you wanted to do a post about Sung Jun, it would make my day. Of course, there should be pics. There should always be pics.

    Thanks for the podcast!

  41. 41 Carinne

I giggle like crazy hearing this podcast. One is tipsy while the another just comply to whatever the other says. Not much of a rebuttal tonight GF, you tigress. I miss your ‘Rawr’ moments, kitty.

  42. 42 Brenda

Thanks for the podcast! Love listening to it while i do my homework haha.
I’m still watching Dream High 2 (really..delayed though, only up to episode 4/5) and i really don’t understand the direction of the drama at the moment, i’ll probably still try to stick it out for the entirety of the drama BUT even though i like kang sora, i really don’t like her character… i don’t actually seem to like ANY of the characters which is puzzling for me, i usually seem to latch onto someone.
I’ll definitely watch shut up flower boy band soon, i’m excited since db and gf both seem to really enjoy it 🙂 Salaryman was awesomeeee despite the lackluster ending for me~

  43. 43 nonski

hi javabeans and girlfriday! thanks for the the new podcast. really want to hear your view of the above topics. 🙂
one thing tho… i have been collecting your podcasts but the i have missing podcasts and can’t seem to download them.

  44. 44 TaPiOcA

I’m still watching DH2 despite not knowing where the story is heading. I really have to say that I don’t really like Kang Sora in this drama. I’ve actually wanted to stop watching since episode 4 but weird enough,I just couldn’t coz the ending of every episode never fails to make me want to continue watching. So in conclusion, only the beginning and ending of each episode is worth watching imo. 🙂

  45. 45 Shawn

Hey in which podcast do they talk about Shut Up Flower Boy Band?

  46. 46 lorena

hearing the ost of all this dramas, makes me want to rewhatche them, (spe. moon sun, even when its not my fav, but its ost is beautiful)
