Jang Geun-seok is showing off an image transformation for Love Rain, the upcoming drama where he plays a young man in the 1970s who falls in love with Yoon-ah, and then also portrays the man’s son three decades later. These stills come from a recent shoot in Hokkaido; who wants to bet Jang spent all morning cruising the streets trying to get recognized?
They’re calling this look “homme fatale,” which makes me wonder if they understand the term fatale. And homme. His 1970s character, Seo In-ha, is meant to portray a “gentle charm,” while his 2012 character, Seo Jun, is his polar opposite. You know how children love to rebel against the ‘rents. Jun is frank and free-spirited, which is expressed here in his asymmetric hairdo and rocker earring/chain, which inexplicably makes me want to give it a tug. A total id-like response, but you can’t just dangle that thing at me and expect me not to react, can you?
With “Season director” Yoon Seok-ho at the helm and his love of classic melodrama plotlines, expect lots of heartfelt tears, pretty scenery, and depictions of “pure romance.” There’s definitely an audience for this kind of old-school sentimental romance, but I do think it’s passed its golden age, aka the late ’90s and early 2000s. Now, the story seems a bit passé. Let’s hope the drama pulls out some fresh new surprises when it premieres on March 26, ’cause I’ve seen the Season Dramas already, and once (or four times) was enough. Love Rain follows Dream High 2 on Mondays and Tuesdays on KBS.
Also: Hooray for haircuts! Don’t get me wrong, I think Jang Geun-seok pulls off the long hair. It’s just that it’s been a while since he’s had an image change, and I welcome the edgier new look. Even if that chain, I swear. I just want to pull it.

Exactly what I feel like at the moment. I saw the tweet and was like… “FINALLY!” Not that I don’t like the long hair, but, seriously, that was like so last year. Imagine my disappointment when I saw the pictures… *sighs* He should really fired his stylist or at least get a second opinion before cutting or growing his hair next time… Seriously JGS, are you trying to kills us??
I’m confused, why does he have to fire his stylist or get a second opinion about his hair? This hair is specifically for his character in the drama, that is how his character wears his hair. The drama people dictate what this hair should look like. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t like his hair when he was in-between dramas (where it was mostly up to him how his hair looked), but I don’t think that’s the case here.
I actually kinda like the outfit. I’d so wear that on a cold day, haha!

I am not sure why people keep commenting about his hairstyle. I think he looks great with any hairstyles. It is also kind of boring if all k-drama actors have the same short hair.
I am excited to know that this drama will air soon. I hope Yoona can prove that she is a better actress now since melodrama definitely requires better than average acting skills.

Yea, I don’t get it. I thought ppl would be raving abt his hair. It looks really nice. Like one of those kpop boys styles. And he rocks it, as he did with all of the Hwang Tae Kyung hair which I really liked as well.
I like JGS. But his long hair was not the best look for him. Plus, he has been doing the same roles or at least roles that seem the same, he is getting typecasted and that is not good. Yes, he is more popular now, but I don’t like the box he is getting stuck in.
I don’t know if he really cut his hair, he still has that little ponytail, but the hair has been styled differently here. I wish he sported a shorter hairstyle like he did way back when.

Just used a little styling mousse and voila…I think you may be right. If he needs to switch back and forth, it makes sense not to cut it versus wearing a wig. I do like him in shorter hair tho.

JGS is one of those people who look disturbingly feminine in pictures…and then has this totally unmistakably masculine aura onscreen. That deep deep voice doesn’t hurt, but when you see him in action there’s no doubt that he’s a guy.
A purely technical question : Did Korean guys already dye their hair in the seventies ? Was it the norm or was it exceptional ?

I like JGS. I just wish he was a little cooler. Enough with the weird clothes and awful hair. Laughing out loud at the thought of his next drama, where he plays all roles in the love quadrangle, plus appears as himself, singing in a club. And just to make it interesting, they’ll intersperse cuts of his younger roles so he can play the child versions of the love quartet too.
