Jang Geun-seok cuts his hair for Love Rain

Jang Geun-seok is showing off an image transformation for Love Rain, the upcoming drama where he plays a young man in the 1970s who falls in love with Yoon-ah, and then also portrays the man’s son three decades later. These stills come from a recent shoot in Hokkaido; who wants to bet Jang spent all morning cruising the streets trying to get recognized?
They’re calling this look “homme fatale,” which makes me wonder if they understand the term fatale. And homme. His 1970s character, Seo In-ha, is meant to portray a “gentle charm,” while his 2012 character, Seo Jun, is his polar opposite. You know how children love to rebel against the ‘rents. Jun is frank and free-spirited, which is expressed here in his asymmetric hairdo and rocker earring/chain, which inexplicably makes me want to give it a tug. A total id-like response, but you can’t just dangle that thing at me and expect me not to react, can you?
With “Season director” Yoon Seok-ho at the helm and his love of classic melodrama plotlines, expect lots of heartfelt tears, pretty scenery, and depictions of “pure romance.” There’s definitely an audience for this kind of old-school sentimental romance, but I do think it’s passed its golden age, aka the late ’90s and early 2000s. Now, the story seems a bit passé. Let’s hope the drama pulls out some fresh new surprises when it premieres on March 26, ’cause I’ve seen the Season Dramas already, and once (or four times) was enough. Love Rain follows Dream High 2 on Mondays and Tuesdays on KBS.
Also: Hooray for haircuts! Don’t get me wrong, I think Jang Geun-seok pulls off the long hair. It’s just that it’s been a while since he’s had an image change, and I welcome the edgier new look. Even if that chain, I swear. I just want to pull it.

I loved his hairstyle at the beginning of "You're Beautiful" - the sleek cut. He has the perfect face for it.
The hair towards the end wasn't bad but I prefer the haircut he had in the beginning.

Geun Suk has one of those surreal, amazing faces that can pull off just about anything. I was a fervent detractor of his girly long hair until I saw "Marry Me, Mary" to finally realize that he is something else. No other man could look manly and so attractive with such a hair, but he did it perfectly, looking like a man. This guy is so beautiful in his own way...

Yep, Autumn Tale and Winter Sonata were my first two kdramas. Loved them but got tired of the same sappy plotline in both Summer Scent and Spring Waltz. I think the okasans in Japan would enjoy Love Rain.
Will check it out but I have zero expectation.
I think JGS knows what he is doing. Like Rain, one of his role models, JGS wants to be known as both a singer and actor-- especially in Japan because he's been promoting his music there. He chose both YAB and MSOAN as vehicles to showcase his musical talent, and You are My Pet and Love Rain to help solidify his popularity in Japan and perhaps the rest of Asia.

Oooh... I really don't care as long as it's Jang Geun-suk <3 Even for ahjumma's hair, long hair, curly, red or blue, short, or bald/Mohawk or even wrapped by newspapers....he's the only one who can pull it off hahaha~ That's how I like him :-) Can't wait for this drama.....

You need to see JGS and Yoona's dancing! It's just more than lovely!

I think that any hair style looks good on JGS. However, I was fond of his long hair style in 'Mary Stayed Out All Night.' I've read many comments about how JGS should return to a more masculine look. However, I cannot help but ask what's wrong with looking feminine? Why is there so much pressure on men to be masculine? The particular feminine look of JGS in 'Mary Stayed Out All Night' and 'You're Beautiful' intertwined with a certain masculinity (his voice, as someone commented above, and cool temperament) gives off an androgynous visual kei sort of look, and JGS is one of the few men in the Asian entertainment industry who can pull off this look! For instance, not many women look good in blue lipstick, but for the ones who can pull off the look, why shouldn't they wear blue lipstick? They'll stand out for their uniqueness. Although JGS is hugely popular because of his talent, his androgynous appearance did much to raise his profile, and because of this, more people around the world became intrigued with him and came to appreciate his talent by watching his past dramas and movies. If JGS was just another masculine celebrity exhibiting big muscles and abs, I doubt he would be as popular as he is today. Androgyny is far more interesting!

I totally agree with you. I think the feminine look adds the softness to his personality, he's manly in the way he's act, in the way he speak. The 70s hair might not look great on him, but watching the 70s period, you get engaged in the character, and not his hair nor his look, just his character, the emotions and story around his character. It made you appreciate his talent, and you would forget how feminine he could be while indulging in this 70s character. Also, the hairstyle is cleverly done. His hair and yoona's hair change as you get to the end of the series. It show how mature the two of them has become. From a playboy to a softer, more understanding young man to a focus young adult, focus on his work and his life, and not how other view him.
Gotta admit, the fur boots might irk some ppls, but I love it, on him, it show some flair, and he pulled all his outfit off. I wouldn't mind having those outfits, the colour and style are so daring, different yet strikingly cool/stylist that you want them in your warbrobe.

i love his hair. PERIOD! maybe because i love JKS :) hehe. it is our choice to love or not to love something but please be selective about the words we're going to say. sometimes being too critics is not good, then will say, there's a room for improvement. if there's no good coming out to blab about, then don't say it. just think if it happens in your shoes. FIGHTING SUKKIE :)
