Good morning!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day for today and tomorrow!
Anyone watching Glowing She?
If so, have you recovered from ep. 5 yet?
Is Glowing She any good? I read a few bad comments about it so I’m hesitating about watching this one :s
I haven’t watched it yet, although it’s been on my radar. I was looking for decent subtitling.

Hi Cynthia,
. I have been thinking about you since Tuesday… Did you know about this? Your “virtual” husband continues to go places. This doesn’t surprise me, considering how philanthropic he is. You must be proud! Were you there with him while he was making the speech, or did he just “kissed” you goodbye that morning before he left without telling you where he was going? And where you there when he got the news?
This is for you
*Placing mic in front of Cynthia* “And how do you feel mam, about such an honor bestowed upon *yours* [as in you have mined him] ?
Enjoy
! I Wouldn’t be surprised if you already knew about this…
Thanks, Ivoire!
Actually, ‘Mr. Perfect’ discovered the new hiding place for the handcuff key and snuck out while I was shopping.
Apparently, hiding it under my pillow wasn’t one of my brighter ideas.
Bad boy.
But, I know he will be back soon. The man just can’t resist me.
And yes. I am immensely proud of him. He’s a good kid.
Umm… clearly I’m missing something. Handcuff key? Bad boy? What kinds of things are you getting up to, Cynthia?
OMG, OTs on Friday are so fun!!!!!
@ Cynthia and Sethe, you guys had me literally LOL… It is 9:24am here, so I thank you for my dose of morning laughs.
) and more importantly with his charity work if you keep him locked in? The world would miss him and all that he does for it.
Cynthia, you have the poor baby locked in your house, in your bedroom no less? How is he going to contribute to the world with his singing, CFs, (and yes, acting
I have to say that I do admire him for his hard work and that I do love his stance on giving back. I have read some of his interviews and I have read reports about his giving back, some of which he wanted to keep private but word got out. I have seen him on TV volunteering as well, I know that this aspect is important to him (truly) and I appreciate someone in the public eye who doesn’t make everything about him/her, because at the end of the day, it is not all about us. And when we die, we don’t get to take it with us, so how about sharing some of our wealth/blessings with others, especially the less fortunate? We could be them one day because of life’s uncertainties, and wouldn’t we appreciate it if someone helped us?
It’s funny how now whenever I see KHJ or I read something about him, I think about you. He does need to change his opinion on what a wife is and what a wife does however, I think he is mislead in that area. And after reading some comments he made on a show about marriage and about how many children he would like to have (4), I got the sense that he didn’t fully realize/understand what marriage and family (with children) entails (sacrifice, among other things). I imagined him at 2 or 4 in the morning with a sick baby or child and wondered how he would handle it. It’s not all fun and games. I helped my parents raised (literally) my siblings and I was a nanny for a very long time in different countries, so I have an idea of the dedication, love and commitment it requires.
. He’s also very cute, I will give you that
and very loyal to his friends, which I like as well.
The interview was interesting, and the host’s comments were as well. I know KHJ means well as a whole, and I appreciate how honest and blunt he can be. I think sometimes when it comes to women however, someone should tell him or teach him about the importance of being tactful, it goes a long way, especially with women, and especially if she is your love interest. The boy is young, so hopefully he will learn along the way, or maybe you could have that conversation with him
P.S.: Before you think of attacking me, just know that I have NO dibs on your “hubby,” so you are safe with me. Hopefully I don’t have to go hide somewhere now, do I?
I would NEVER attack you…. give you a ‘look’ maybe, but that’s as far as it goes.
My cyber hubby is one in a trillion, but a total dunce when it comes to women. How do you think I caught him so easily?! Men are so easy, especially when the women are. (Easy, that is. What?! So?!)
It was funny hearing him tell what he wants for a wife. She has to wants lots of kids, not be concerned about money, has to drink, doesn’t care about brand-label clothes or accessories or fancy surroundings, and be extremely beautiful.
Like the MC said – he’s going to be single a LONG time….
Cynthia,
. Yeah, so he made those comments (and I could just imagine his face as he was speaking). He looks at you like nothing is wrong with what he just said. I thought that was kind of ignorant and arrogant and a double standard. And it’s not like it has never dated before. He seems to be dating occasionally (no offense), which made me wonder what kinds of women he had been dating? Isn’t part of the dating goal or result to become more knowledgeable about oneself and about the other gender as one gets older? Hasn’t he learned anything being around women? (I get that he has a brother, so he grew up with a guy, doesn’t he have female cousins or female friends he talked/talks to?). I don’t want to sound mean or condescending but I just didn’t understand, after all he is 26… and has been on his own since his mid teens…
you are hilarious!!! I loved your comments. What does the word “dunce” means? Is it Italian, Latin? I love your comment about “Easy, that is. What?! So?!), you crack me up!!!!
I am so glad you actually saw that show. I read about it on Soompi and went back and looked for it and realized it would be time consuming for me to find it because it wasn’t showing up. So I am glad to see that you know what I am speaking of
I thought “how interesting that he has so many qualifications/demands on someone he might not have met yet, let alone someone he is not involved with yet. He will be very surprise when he experiences a committed relationship and marriage”. I also thought that it was interesting that he listed his expectations but didn’t say anything or much about what he would be bringing to the table. I always find it interesting when people list what they want in a relationship and yet fail to talk about what they would contribute, as if it is all about them. As we know, successful relationships are not that way, it is a give and take, and self sacrifice is involved, especially when you add children to the mix. I thought his ideas were very naive and I didn’t understand how he could want to live well (because he does), which indicates that he cares about material things some, but his wife, shouldn’t? So, if she is busy, being pregnant (because he wants a lot of children), and she is busy raising (primarily) the children since he works so much (hopefully he will be involved and dedicated to his children), and she is busy running the household and taking care of the family (including the parents since that is important in the Korean society), how is she to live and what kind of life will the children have (they would have to be provided for)?
. He might want to sign a pre-up or something if they do that in Korea, but still… His expectations were just not realistic, especially if he wants a good, nurturing, solid relationship and not just a doormat. Even doormats eventually (hopefully) wake up one day and want better things for themselves and demand/work for them.
) and that part was funny…
Who in this day and age is not concerned about money, seriously???? Doesn’t he care about brand label and clothes? And he expects her not to? How? Where does he think he will find such a wife? In a village somewhere? And even if that were the case, just bring her to the city, give her a few months/years, and she will show you… She might become worse than the city women
The MC told him that with what he was saying, he would be 40 and he would still be single. I thought that was a very good answer, because it’s true. I hope that gave him food for thought. I know that Bae Yong Jun is a mentor of KHJ and that he idolizes the man. BYJ seems to be thoughtful and very considerate, he is also older and has life experience, so I thought maybe they could talk about those things. I don’t know really well how relationships are between sunbaes (or hyungs) and hoobaes in South Korea, so I don’t know if they would ever talk about such things around some barbecue and a bottle (or a few bottles) of Soju or beer. I just think it would serve him well (KHJ) to be more thoughtful and tactful with people sometimes, because we do love him, and we like him and we do want him to do well. Social skills (which I know he has some) are still very important in this day and age, and some of his need to be sharpened.
That being said, I did like him in WGM. I liked how he was protective of his wife, how he took her side during arguments with others (that was really funny), how he took the contract letter with him to Japan, how he remembered what she wanted when he came back from the trip, how he made the gift (the 1,000 paper thingy that he made and had his boyband help him with) and sang to her and how he basically put himself out there and showed a vulnerable side of himself. It made me go “awwww” many times and he was only 22… And he had fun with her and he was fun to be around, even though he was competitive. But then, there were also times when he hurt her feelings, but one could tell that it wasn’t intentional, he was just clueless (a dunce, would that word apply here?
It is soooo nice to be able to go on and on with you about KHJ. He can be so adorable at times, really. I agree with you, he does have a good heart and that is a big part of what makes him attractive (as a person) in my eyes.
Just out of curiosity, what is it that you like so much about him (besides the way he looks like, I assume)?
Ivoire – you really tickle me. You’re so enthusiastic and open. Let me guess – you’re the last one to fall asleep at a Pajama Party, right?
Okay, here are some answers:
Dunce generally means idiot/stupid/dumb
I can tell you for an almost certainty what’s going to happen when KHJ meets his “I’m going to marry her” woman. He’ll fall in love with her and won’t give a crap about all of his prior requirements for a wife. Because true love wipes away all those silly ‘must haves’. She’ll probably be a materialistic, doesn’t want kids, fairly average-looking, few years older than him, woman. Cause that’s the way life generally works out where real love is involved.
Why do I like him? Just do – he hits all my psyche buttons. His personality is actually very close to that of my husband’s. Talented, smart, ambitious, caring, protective with an odd sense of humor, who also (as I keep reminding him) totally adores me and our son.
Had to lol about your comment of KHJ and BYJ – one of KHJ’s goals is to get BYJ married. What he doesn’t see is that BYJ is probably just as picky as he is. I always wondered why BYJ broke off his relationship with Choi Ji-woo. Bet he got dumped – they both appear to be really high maintenance people.
Hi Cynthia,
I have been meaning to respond to your post, but I have been caught in commenting and responding to other comments. I just wanted to let you know that I will come back and respond because your answer elicited laughter and some remarks I would like to share. If you can remember, check back every so often, at some point I would have answered. To be safe, I think I will have answered it by tomorrow night, because my day will be busy today, but I do want to answer and comment and I will. I also left a comment below in response to the funny story you shared about your daughter and her friend.
I hope your weekend is going well!
No problem, Ivoire – take your time and have a good, safe week.
Hi Cynthia,
I am finally getting around to adding my comment to what you said. About me being the last one to fall asleep at a Pajama Party (how did you guess that, btw?) I would say, that is “if I fall asleep at all
,” because it has happened that I ended up talking all night long until 6-7 in the morning. And yes, unfortunately (or fortunately), I do have stories of my cousins (males and females) and of some of my friends begging me to let them go to sleep and for us to continue our conversation later that day
. To be honest, talking (or writing for that matter) and listening to others is how I bond with people. I do like my quiet times, but I get a lot of energy interacting with people, which is one of the reasons why I have enjoyed participating on this blog.
“You are so enthusiastic and open,” yes, I usually am. I have also noticed that when I care about someone I really do care about him/her, hence the amount of attention I put on some of the Korean celebrities (even though I don’t know them personally), I care about their well-being and I think I get a little emotionally involved, as demonstrated by my long posts about KHJ (LOL).
So, coming back to your comments, I really hope that is what happens to KHJ when he meets “his future bride.” That would teach him about life and about the fact that life is not an exact science where we can control and predict with certainty that we will always get what we want.
. It was interesting to me to read that in many ways, KHJ reminded you of your husband. Would it be fair to say that you go for the same type
? (both virtually and in real life).
I think it would be hard for him to not meet a woman (or at least not date, which might lead to marriage) who is materialistic in huge part because of the world he lives in. Because of how driven he is, and because of how much he works, he is constantly around a certain type of people (both male and female) and it is usually how we meet people. even if his future bride is not from that environment (like Go Soo’s wife for example), she will still know that he’s a successful celebrity and she will have certain expectations of a certain lifestyle, which in my opinion, she should have. And if he really wants as many children as he said he did, he HAS to take care of them (both the children and the wife), and that would be expensive. I think I was taken by how clueless he seemed to be about how much work and effort and energy a committed marriage is. I felt like he needed (or will have) a wake-up call, or maybe the reality for Korean celebrities is different from ours, I don’t know (they will be able to afford nannies and maids, so maybe she won’t have to work a lot. Still, I think she will have a lot of responsibilities) .
I wonder if KHJ will end up with a fairly average looking woman because when I see the women those celebrities date and end up marrying, they always look pretty and if they don’t , they get plastic surgery to look pretty. That seems to be a huge pressure in that world, especially for the women. It would be interesting to see who he ends up marrying, if she is average looking, I feel like that would be a first. KHJ himself had plastic surgery to look better (and feel better about himself, maybe?) so it would be interesting to see how he gets to a place where looks are not as important to him. Right now, I don’t think he is there yet.
I also think it would be interesting to see if she is a few years older than him and if she is, how that might change and influence him.
I agree with the qualities you have attributed to KHJ and I like that he is caring, even if at times, at first he doesn’t come across that way. I also like that he is (actually) protective because that tells me that he will do what he can to make sure the person he loves is ok and happy (I hope). As far as his sense of humor, I wonder if he thinks he is funny, because I don’t always find him funny, which might be where the “odd” part comes in.
You sound like you have a great husband, and you also sound like you adore him as well
I didn’t know that KHJ was trying to get BYJ married, wow!!! Good luck to him! and LOL. I guess he cares that much about his hyung , huh? “What he doesn’t see is that BHJ is probably just as picky as he is” LOL at that comment which probably is true. Why they don’t see it, I don’t know, I guess they are men, although women can be blind as well… I didn’t know BYJ dated Choi Ji-Woo but that is not surprising, maybe a result of them shooting Winter Sonata together? BYJ dumped, imagine that… I think when I see those stars, I forget that they can be dumped as well.
So when you say “they both appear to be really high maintenance people” did you mean BYJ and Choi Ji Woo or did you include KHJ in that group as well? (just wondering…)
As always, it was good chatting with you. I hope your week started well.
Glowing She is light and funny – Shuck, I’ve been watching it at kimchidrama. The subs are pretty good, but they’ve only gotten to ep 5. It’s like the subbed ep comes out once every two weeks, beyond slowwww..
The reason I asked if anyone was watching ep 5 was because I was astounded at one scene. The leading lady is a wannabe writer who the leading man (Kim Hyung Jun from SS501) is trying to get her to write his biography for him. She figures out that he’s trying to use/trick her and so she starts to ask him ‘life’ questions for the book. First question? “Tell me about your first wet dreams! And, do you use boxed tissues or toilet paper?” She goes on to repeat this twice. When he’s too frozen to answer, her next question is “How many women have you slept with? A truck load or enough to fill the Sports Stadium?”
For a rom/com in K-land, I was amazed. Just amazed.
Wow, I may have to marathon there tonight, then. Depending on busy I am.
“Tell me about your first wet dreams”
WHAT? Like, seriously?
That’s probably one of the most insensitive things you could ask a guy.
It does make me interested about the drama though.
Selamat Petang, Ricky! Also good to know you’re still alive and sentient.
–
Maybe she was asking if he ever wanted an inground pool?
LOL
Selamat petang, shukie!
LOL If a girl (or even a guy, for that matter) asks me that question, I’d bolt!
Not me…I want an inground pool.
Bwahahaha! You guys are funny… :0)
I know, right?!
And the funny thing was, she REPEATS it when he’s too shocked to answer. It was hilarious.
It was like 5 minutes into ep. 5. Worth watching!
That show is totally crazy. I love it! And the boy has been cast for another drama already. I’m not the only one who was impressed!
It wasn’t like 5 minutes into ep 5. It was more like 42 minutes. Heh.
I watched it! Made me laugh like crazy. HAHAHA
Ricky, why is it insensitive?
amended to add: if they are sleeping together, I mean. If they aren’t that intimate then it’s a very shocking question, I agree.
Yunno, it’s private and stuff…
but if you’re sleeping together….?
That still doesn’t justify the question, I think. It’s too personal (maybe I’m slightly prudish though).
You don’t strike me as a prude at all, Ricky. Everyone has their areas where they like privacy.
Sort of related…
One of the novels I’m teaching now with my middle school students is Flowers for Algernon (I’m sure some of you know it)… deals with a man with a very low IQ (68 or so, which is in the range where people can sort of function independently, but need a lot of help).
Anyway, this man has some kind of neurosurgery that makes him become gradually much smarter, until he becomes a genius.
In addition to his intellectual awakening, the novel also goes into some detail about his emotional awakening — meaning that, prior to the surgery, he’d been childlike, both intellectually and emotionally, and he suddenly begins to become aware of women, sexually.
The novel does mention him having wet dreams and erections as a teenager, but he clearly never understood what was happening… and now, following this surgery, he’s starting to have sexual feelings toward women, and he doesn’t know what to do with them.
Point is, the curriculum at my school includes questions relating to these sexual feelings he’s developing, but the middle school kids find it highly embarrassing to talk about, which in turn makes me embarrassed
This was a movie (old) with Cliff Robertson, right? He reverts back to his low IQ in the end.
It’s just an awkward subject – like masturbation. Not many adults feel free to discuss these subjects, never mind adolescents.
HAHAHA
Who would want to talk about wet dreams and erections to teachers?
Right? One of my students was like, “It’s just an uncomfortable subject, teacher”
Seen this and read this. Wasn’t it called Charlie?
Kind of related… I just had a lecture half an hour ago about sexuality. We were discussing “missionary position” and why it’s considered the proper way of doing… well, it. Embarrassing? oh hell yes!
My mom was equally nosy when I was at that age. She kept asking me all these uncomfortable questions. On the dinner table! It’s downright embarrassing. I’m scarred for life!
@ Noelle
HAHAHA Seriously? What subject is this?
All I’m going to say is that people have a lot of hang-ups about sex these days, and it might be useful to consider why.
@Ricky
Sociology.
Then we started talking about how it got its name lol
@ Noelle
So how did it get its name?
@Ricky
My teachers belief: Missionaries would watch how the indigenous population would have sex and then correct them in the “Godly” way of procreation. Can’t even imagine that situation.
It’s funny because on the face of it…it’s something pretty much all adults do, so we should be able to discuss without embarrassment – but even I would find it difficult to have a serious discussion about sex/masturbation/wet dreams *as these things relate to me, with details* with even my closest friends.
I can joke about it all day long. I can talk about ‘yes, I like’ or ‘yes, I have’ with my friends. I could discuss sex in general terms in a class room situation, too.
But masturbation, somehow – that would be something I could only discuss with someone I was already sleeping with. I wondery why that is.
‘Missionary’ position. LOL
That’s what happens when religion sticks it’s nosy nose into people’s lives. Back then, the Bible-beaters made sure to instruct the non-believer ‘heathens’ that man has dominance over the female in all aspects of life, and that correct ‘godly’ procreation could only be achieved when the man was dominate over the female. They also insisted on having intercourse with a sheet covering the woman with a discretionary hole cut to allow for the ‘business’ to ensue.
I remember reading this book in middle school and that part about wet dreams and sexual feelings was glossed over… nobody tried to talk about… of course I attended a catholic k-8 so it’s no surprise that they wouldn’t make that one of the topic questions… heh.
I come to OT…and we’re talking wet dreams. While we’re at it, remember the erections floating around in middle school? I admit, I was one of those girls…the point and laugh girls…I wouldn’t dare now…but…well, I was quite the little B…
@Raine… you know I never noticed them? even when I was always with the guys, because of what the nun’s termed as my hoyden personality. (I was oil to the rest if girls’ water, we didn’t mix well)
See, Raine! I told you the OT is weird this week. Haha
I remember those kind of girls. You girls are nasty!
I remember my sister’s husband (who attended middle school with us) talking about how those Trapper Keepers (anyone remember those?) were a teenage guy’s best friend
(You know, because they could be used to cover an erection at school
)
Funny, I don’t remember that in middle school. But we’re talking about the dark ages here….
And, my friends were all guys. Since grade school. I was cheerfully oblivious, I guess, lol.
I never noticed the random erections floating around at school, Raine. I always thought it was just a joke for the movies!
@noelle, the book was “Flowers For Algernon” and the movie with Cliff Robertson was “Charlie”. I remember reading the (edited) version in grade 8 English class. The edited version deleted some of the more explicit sexual content.
BTW, Ricky,
Some of the male teachers at my school were talking about how often guys think about sex, and they seemed to agree that it’s kind of a constant subterranean, so to speak, current, that’ll flare up (mixing metaphors… sorry) whenever an attractive or desirable woman comes into view. Do you agree (if it’s not too personal to ask)?
Yes, it’s kinda true, although if you ask me in person, I’d deny and run away. Hehe
It’s the testosterone. It boosts up libido in men (and also women). Since guys produce this hormone regularly, it’s expected that we think about sex all the time, no?
I read somewhere that guys think about it every 6 seconds. LOL That’s an exaggeration though.
So yes, it’s a constant ‘current’ in guys. We just can’t help it. Don’t hate us because of that, please!
It’s the biological need to procreate and pass on the genes.
Every guy I know is like that, lol.
@ Shukie,
Ok, so I might be 5 here, or 7, doesn’t matter… I didn’t understand the inground pool comment, care to explain, if you can?
It was a pun:
“wet dream” = “A dream of swimming in a beautiful pool surrounded by sago palms, ending with a little floating plastic island containing one incredible mai tai in a tall frosty glass with a paper umbrella in the twisty straw made by a stunning bartender named Steele.”
That kind of wet dream…
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
It sounds dreamy to me.
Thank you Shukie for explaining about the inground pool, that was helpful. When I don’t know, I would rather ask than assume or pretend that I know. I am glad that there are no small (or stupid) or big questions on this blog, and that if our heart is in the right place, it is safe to ask questions.
No worries, Iv!
Sometimes it’s hard to remember that each one of us has different experiences and different internal references, especially when it comes to puns, jokes, and general craziness.
@Ricky Some how I miss this discussion earlier. Yes it is intrusive and is meant to. The woman felt insulted when a twenty something asked her to write his life, so she fires back with this ridiculous questions to cancel the contract she just signed.
Yep. You’re correct. I watched that scene to confirm it.
Hi Zgznoona,
Thank you for explaining because I watched that particular episode (I haven’t watched the drama and I am not familiar with it) and so I didn’t really understand. By that I mean that I didn’t understand the purpose of her questions, and your explanations make sense, so again thank you for explaining.
Whelp…looks like I need to add this one to my list
I never even heard of it. *looking up*
Hahahahahahaha!This whole section was hilarious!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you. And Happy Weekend too!
Haven’t seen Glowing She. In fact, I haven’t seen any kdrama lately. From what I’ve read here, ep. 5 seems interesting.
What I’m curious about, though, is if they let KHJ read the script first, or if they kept the questions from him until camera roll to get the right shocked reaction from him.
LOL! I would have chased the director til the end of the world if he done that to me! So cruel! Bwahahah…
I have a question: after the passing of the dad of the Yoochun family, it was said on Soompi that Park (Micky) Yoochun (older brother) was the “mourner in chief.” Can anyone explain to me what that is, please and what is his function in relation to the family and to the people who are coming to pay their respect?
I’m not Korean, but, assuming KDramas have a basis in reality, it looks like a receiving line of one; mourners come into the worship area and formally bow to a member of the family to express condolences (recently the 3rd epi of FBRS at 36 min mark).
I found this blog that goes in some detail: http://sanchonhunjang.blogspot.com/2005/11/sanchon-hunjangs-guide-to-korean.html
Hi Shukie,
Thank you for taking the time to respond to my question and for adding that link. It was very helpful and I quickly read through it (I will have to go back to that website) and looked at a couple of other pages just to have an idea of what the blogger talks about.
What you said about the meaning of the “Mourner in chief” made sense and I went and read the recap of FBRS (I haven’t seen the episode yet, I will later) and I remembered seeing a similar scene in the drama “Bad Love” with Kwon Sang Woo (about a funeral) and I think some of it happens in “Man of Honor” even though I am not sure how much they focused on the funeral and I watched that episode a while ago, so I don’t remember it well.
You know, the blogger mentioned Koreans basically giving money to each other to help cover the costs of the funeral expenses and how at first he didn’t understand what they were doing. The interesting thing is that, that was the firs thing I thought about the money as well (that it was to help with the funeral costs), because we do something similar in Cameroon. I was not surprised by the donations and the meaning behind them. It was also very interesting to read about their customs (related to funerals) and about the order in which they do things and the meanings behind them.
Again thank you!
Happy Friday OTers! Yes, it’s another hit-and-run from me, as I have been laid down hard with a case of strep throat this week. One of my co-workers brought her son to work last Friday because his day care kicked him out for being too sick to be there. He was diagnosed this past Monday with – you guessed it – strep throat, and it spread like wildfire through the office. There’s about six of us out at the moment, and I have a feeling it’s going to be a zoo once we all return to work. And here’s silly me thinking I couldn’t get strep throat because I don’t have any tonsils! Sheesh.
So being home pretty much all week coked up on antibiotics and scotch, I really haven’t had a chance to start and/or finish any new dramas. And I’m royally pissed off at KBS World for changing up their schedules – I was hoping to check out “Wild Romance” once it started airing a few weeks ago, but instead of keeping to the Korean time schedule (which meant airing at 9:50 PM here on the Left Coast), KBSW runs it at 7:00 PM instead. Yeah, like I’m home that early in the evening EVER! Guess that means I’d better get my Tivo fixed STAT!!
Gotta run, chingus. I have a follow-up with my ear/nose/throat guy in an hour, so I’ll check back in afterwards. Stay frosty, kids!!
Cherkell! Always glad for the hit-and-run posts (in a very non-violent-collision way). Hope you feel better soon, or at least hope another bottle of scotch is nearby… lol
Strep throat? Nasty!
Woops! Pushed the button too soon.
Cherkell, hope you come right soon though your remedy of ‘antibiotics and scotch’ does sound like fun in a way but strep throat definitely not.
Strep is no picnic.
Hope you feel better soon!
Aww.. feel better, Cherkell.
Whiskey is just an antiseptic, right? So that makes it a healthy choice for strep!
Of course I have scotch and/or whisky at Casa de CherKell — being half-Irish, there’s always a bottle of Bushmills at the ready. And being half-Czech, that also explains always having a bottle of Slivovitz (plum brandy) available for emergencies as well. YAY BOOZE!!
Liquor cures everything and then makes everything worse the next day!
Feel better, cherkell.
Ricky oppa!! I wonder if there will ever come a day when the OT Noonas could take you around on a pub crawl… ::sigh::
LOL this week’s chatter just lends itself to several classic quotes!! This time from The Simpsons: “Booze. The source of… and the solution to… all of life’s problems.” WORD.
“Vice is nice, but liquor is quicker!” ~ anon
WORD, cherkell. WORD!
I don’t really drink though. I suck at it.
Don’t suck the whiskey, Ricky. That’s your problem, right there. Whiskey’s for sippin’.
Oh, you know what I mean!
I don’t either. We’ll go around with them and piggyback them home when they get enough. :0)
We’ll have almost as much fun and we’ll still remember it in the morning, lol.
And we’ll be the ones taking pictures, Shel! MWAHAHAHA
Ha!
Wow, I wish not having tonsils would save you from strep throat, lol. Would have saved me for 40+ years of strep episodes.
I feel your pain, and I hope you feel better soon! Glad you caught it, though. Strep does some pretty nasty things if you don’t get it treated…
I hope you get well soon, cherkell. Eye-ear-nose-throat problems are nasty.
Hehe. Glad to know that I’m not the only one who seeks immediate relief from throat problems with alcohol. The more bad stuff, the better.
oysters, wine and pepper are great for strep throat.
Those are good for so many other things, too.
Ask Cynthia. LOL
Or JoAnne.
Those two are experts.
True true.
Amen.
*blushes* but does not deny.
Hmpf. I’m sticking with my hot veggie oil and celery sticks… and handcuffs. Can’t forget the handcuffs…
Gosh, you’ll just have me blushing and cracking up today … and I am in the office … LOL.
Hey!!
Okay.
Can’t deny it, either.
I prefer to think of it as hard-earned experience garnering a positive outcome.
Hillary, you can just tell people you are reading examples of people who’ve taken advantage of the low hanging fruit, studied theories and put them into practice, then made results-based refinements. It’s a process of continuous improvement spanning years.
oh dear! It’s the last time I offer you lot medical advice!
hehe… everything that’s said, could be taken for its double entendre here… but that’s cool^^ makes it interesting
Ahjummabunny, hope you had a good week
Hmpf. Doctor says that after five full days of meds, things still aren’t healing very well so I’ve got a new prescription for antibios to try. Good thing, because the ones he prescribed last week really made my ears ring. To quote a famous MST3K line, “Now I know how the world sounds to Pete Townshend.”
CROWE!!
Strep throat is the worst.I hope you feel better soon.
take care, drink hot lemonade and bear through it! kramas will distract you.
Feel better Cherkell! I hate strep throat! Dramaland, soothe her pain!
cherkell,
I hope you feel better soon!
Cherkell~
Sorry to hear about your strep. Hope you get well soon.
On a side note, some antibiotics might wreak havoc on your stomach. If that’s the case, probiotics can help restore the gut flora . You know, all the good bacteria that lives there.
Climbs on soapbox <—–
History: I became deathly ill after a visit to Egypt, Curse of the Mummy? Curse of the Tummy is more like it and I wound up in the hospital for three days. During that time I was fed all sorts of antibiotics.
For years after that incident my stomach gave me fits. I'll spare you the details of the fits but they were tortuous.
Years later I had a sinus infection, antibiotics helped that but my stomach was worse that ever, the doc says, "Yeah, that might happen." What's the fix?
Crickets… No, they weren't the fix, that's what I heard….
I 'd eat yogurt, (yum!) like a fiend, it helped but it didn't cure. Numerous visits to doctors about my stomach…
Doc says, "Acid reflux !" I think, "Quack!"
So…… Anyways…
I mentioned a few weeks ago that the wife and I have been brewing fermented tea , Kombucha
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kombucha
and water kefir
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_kefir_grains
Not only is it delicious, it turns out that this stuff is probiotic !
To make a long story short, the kombucha and kefir has been a godsend . Voila ! No more intestinal distress. The little critters that should be there have been restored, (I'm guessing).
* Disclaimer * I'm not a doctor or a quack for that matter, I've never stayed at a Holiday Inn and don't pretend to be a doctor or a quack, on the internet.
Climbs off of soapbox <—-
As far as brewing and fermenting goes, we have a batch of fermented lemons going as well some lemon wine or "skeeterpee" brewing.
http://skeeterpee.com/
Last but not least, some sauerkraut as well. Did you know Genghis Kahn fed sauerkraut to his army?
Sorry for rambling on, but I do hope your strep is over with soon.
skeeterpee
the mind boggles
Hey, otherwise known as lemon wine. I do look forward to getting boggled though.
Happy friday everyone !
(I’m sooo gonna miss Salaryman!)
Happy Friday! I have yet to watch it!
Raine I keep forgetting to ask you – my daughter really really loves a cellist named Zoe Keating and is all excited because she’s about to go on tour again – are you familiar?
Hi everyone, and Happy Friday!
Iv! I think that’s the shortest post ever!! Haa Haa, just kidding. How are you doing? What do you think of your character in my fanfic? The mayhem starts soon, I promise.
LOL!
According to Shel, your avatar is getting cheeky…
You mean in your fan-fic?
Yep.
He IS getting a little grabby, but he has neither back-hugged nor tucked back her hair yet, nor piggy-backed her, so there are still several KDrama milestones left to do. Hee.
At least HE is getting some action.
What, Ricky, you “don’t get no love”?
I’m ‘loveless’ for the past few years now, Sethe.
Ricky-oppa, that’s so sad. :0( You’re such a great guy! One of these days, some great girl is going to figure out what a catch you are, and then we’ll never see you cuz you’ll be too busy. . . My 17 year old self will be devastated, but my current self will be cheering for you!
Thanks, Shel.
I’m not sure if I’m as good as what you think I am though. I have a lot of flaws.
Ricky-oppa, EVERYBODY does. You just gotta find the one with the flaws you can live with. :0)
And, who sees the good stuff in you that makes the not-so-good stuff seem trivial. :0)
@Shel
I LOVE what you said here about everyone having flaws, and how you just have to find the one with flaws you can live with (and similarly from their perspective, presumably).
That’s what I think, too.
LOL! I am there with Ricky
BTW, where you laughing at me or laughing with me? Or maybe laughing at Shukie or at her comment?
I was laughing at Shukie’s comment.
It was surprising to see such a short comment from you though.
Hi Shukie,
and I kind of agree with you. I think the 1st time I participated on OT, I started with the same sentence, and then things went down hill from there
!!!
LOL at your comment about this being the shortest post ever
I am good, thank you for asking. I am still looking for full time work and I am still tutoring French part time and I STILL get more excited about the language than my 14 year-old (boy) student does, which is so interesting and funny!!! Maybe I should stand on my head or do something to get him excited about our tutoring sessions. Any suggestions, anyone?
I am SOOO enjoying the new # (apartment) I am living in. The neighborhood is really nice and quiet (there is a swimming pool too) and I will be here for 2 months instead of one. This week, I am by myself, my friend will be back from IN. next week (I get to live here for free thanks to her and thanks to another friend who suggested she let me live here since she is now working in another state but still has this lease, so that’s a blessing. In return, I am here when people want to check her furniture and buy it, and I will help her pack and clean before she leaves. She feels overwhelmed by it).
I was also sorry to hear about the death of the dad of the Yoochun’s family. God’s comfort to them, I lost my dad recently after his battle with Leukemia, so I can relate.
I did read the episode 19 the same day you mentioned it to me, and meant to comment on that (my comment in my mind was semi-long
) but one day turned into another and then another and time got away from me. I wanted to say, “Thank you” for the shout out to Cameroon, it was a little weird (strange) to see my country mentioned in a fanfic, especially because of the fact that I had finally had the courage and push to participate on the OT and see what that was like. It made me realize that when we dare to step into something, we never really know how things might develop, so just dare away…
I also liked how you incorporated some aspects of the language (kya!!!) and I thought it was so cool to see my native language written down with some explanations. Where did you find that information? (I am just curious) because there is actually a well written and detailed BULU and French dictionary (with phonetics and everything) and I have a copy (in a box somewhere). I wanted to go and look up the words you mentioned but my dictionary is in a box. My screen name here is actually one of the (many) translations of one of my names in BULU. That is how my dad used to call me. He would remind me that I was his “Ivory,” someone very special to him, and “Ivory” is also an important commodity in Africa (banned to protect the hunting and killing of elephants), so that’s part of the story behind my screen name, very personal to me.
The only issue I had was with the fact that you wrote that BULU was the main language in Cameroon, because it is not. Cameroon has over 250 native languages and has French and English as official languages, just like Canada. Some of the native languages are somewhat close in writing and in the way they sound and belong to the same umbrella, just like French, Spanish, Portugese and Italian for instance fall under the Romance languages. So BULU falls under the BANTU languages that are spoken in a number of African countries. Some are similar (close) in the way they sound (but they still have their differences) and some are very different from one another.
So, the reason I had an issue with the comment you made about BULU being the main language in Cameroon is because it simply is not. BULU is one of the main languages, not just the ONE. That fact is important to mention because Cameroon is not a fictional country, so I feel that accuracy matters in this case. I am sensitive to that because as an immigrant, you can only imagine the kinds of questions I would be asked when I lived in France and now since I have been in the US (19 years and counting). Now, I don’t pretend to know everything about the rest of the world and I do ask questions when I don’t know and when I have the opportunity to be with a native of a particular country. However, some questions and comments can be downright insulting and offensive (trust me on that one, I am not just being sensitive) and after a while, one gets tired of even being asked (sometimes). you know, there are such things as the internet (even though you can’t always believe all that you read on it, but it seems that Skukie used it well when she researched my country, thus proving my point…), and the public library, museums when they have exhibits about Africa, etc…. and those things are free, imagine that…
Because of how little people in this part of the world seem to know about Africa, I think it is important to be accurate, even if it is in a fanfic because you never know who might be reading it. Again, if this was a fictional country, I wouldn’t mind as much, although I would venture to say that I think all African countries have one or more official languages and many, many native languages. Some like Kenya have a Lengua Franca (Swahili) which is also spoken in neighboring countries, but they still have other native languages because there are many ethnic groups and I believe their official language is English.
I get a little sensitive about how Africa and African countries are represented abroad because I know that the media usually doesn’t do a good job of it (it is often biased and one should check many other sources). Just like Cmrprindle (I might have spelled her screen name wrong, I am sorry if I did, I want to quickly post this, so I will check on this later) gets sensitive about issues related to African Americans and takes the time and effort to explain and clarify certain things, like she did with the “Black Face” issue. I totally understand and respect that. I don’t think Africa is a perfect place, no place is in the world for that matter. I do think however that because I was primarily raised there, and because I have been privileged to read books written by African authors about their own continent, I have learned a lot about African history, read magazines created and funded and ran by African journalists, listened to African politicians, singers, activists, watch African movies and TV programming, etc… (the list is very long) and I still keep in touch with people who are there and I have made friends with Africans from other countries (thus learning about other African countries in the process) and I have traveled to a few other African countries (so, you get my drift here, right?), I know and believe the continent and the people in it to be different than what I see here in the media.
Oh, I can be critical of the place, mind you, but it is in a constructive way, from a place of understanding, which is not always the case when I read or hear some reports done here. You know, people remember what they read (the good and the bad) and so I think that being accurate, even in passing, is important. I also think that it is respectful to the country and to its peoples. Believe me, when I go home and some of the people I know or happen to meet make some inaccurate comments about the US, I don’t hesitate to correct them based on my experience living in this country (and it is just my own experience, I am aware of it). As I have said earlier, no place on earth is perfect, and every place has contributed and continues to contribute in natural resources, labor, brain power, research, development, entertainment, etc… Some places and peoples are just more acknowledged or known than others, and if we can correct that, we should.
Now you see why it took me so long to add my comment. How is that for going back to being my regular “Iv,” with her long, detailed posts? When I am done writing, one definitely knows how I feel and what I think, huh
(I hope this helped) and thank you for asking. As you can guess, I DO love Africa and its peoples, even though I might not agree with all that is going on there and I get frustrated, sad, confused, excited, etc… at times about what is going on there. I have learned however, as someone who has actually lived there for a long time and was nurtured and raised there and has seen and understood the values of what was instilled in me and how it has served me well since I have left home, to usually try to understand before I judge. Many, many things in Africa are actually grey (or gray) and not black and white as people tend to think. Again, this is not to excuse some of the horrible things that have happened. I could however point to other places in the world where horrible things have happened as well, done by the inhabitants and foreign nations (including this country) and so I don’t think it’s enough to label a place totally bad or good.
Education (as in “being aware” of the world around us) as I mentioned on another post 2 or 3 days ago, is very important to me, and we need to learn about people and understand them, before we form an opinion. That has definitely been my journey since I have left home (learning about myself and about others) many, many years ago.
Aaaaaand “Ivoire” is back!!! Man, this was long… Shukie, I hope you are happy, because you partially made me do this:-). Why do you care so much and ask me questions? It makes me want to answer and tell you how I feel. And you know me, one or two or three sentences are not enough. Maybe I should go to Graduate School (I have always considered it and I plan on going at some point), where I would enjoy writing a thesis. Maybe something along the lines of the impact of the Korean entertainment industry on us females who live outside of Korea, Hum… That’s a thought.
Man, do I like to write… And Shukie, I actually love the fact that you care and that you ask questions, I am the SAME way
@Ivoire: You are definitely back. Of course, I read your posts and as always, your detailed explanations are delightful to read (at least for me) because I learn something new every time.
@ Hillary,
Helloooo there, how are you? Sooo good to hear from you!!! Thank you so much for your compliment, it REALLY made my day!!! It is comforting to find out that one can educate others while sharing one’s life experiences and thoughts on the world. I was delighted to know that you enjoy my writing and that you look forward to getting to know me through my posts. I love reading your posts as well, and I came across one on OT 226 where I mentioned that I had been looking for your post and expecting it (I don’t remember why, I probably wanted to see your answer to something) and you had to remind me that you also had to work, since it was a Friday. The sweet thing about it for me was that I felt like a little sister who was waiting for her unni, so they could talk. My (slight) impatience was actually kind of cute and sweet to me.
I hope you will have a great weekend. From what I read, you will be catching up on some dramas. I hope you will make time for your mother and your daughter (this is a pun on the comment you made about your mother saying that you have changed since you started watching Kdramas)
. Have a great weekend!!!!
Ivoire –
No worries at the criticism; I rewrote the paragraph in my fan-fic. Let me know if it sounds better, or if I need to wordsmith it further. I want happy people reading it!
—
The words I used I found in an online French/Bulu dictionary I found while wolfing down all-you-can-eat pancakes at a local Denny’s Restaurant.
I didn’t keep the site information, being more than distracted by the syrupy sweet goodness and the happy sounds my stomach was making at the time. If I can backtrack to it, though, I’ll let you know!
Hi Shukie,
I am so glad you took my constructive criticism well because that was what I intended it to be. I will have to reread the paragraph and let you know what I think about it. I appreciate the fact that you allow me to critique your work, it means I get to be one the people who helped you with your fan-fic.
I LOL at the fact that you were looking up Bulu words while “wolfing down all-you-can-eat pancakes at Denny’s,” multitasking, were we?
)
I am definitely interested in that site (where you found the Bulu words) and I would love to have a look at it and see who created it and who is maintaining it. I am also interested in its content. If you do happen to come across it again, please let me know. Thanks! (I am glad however that your meal was that good and that your stomach was making happy sounds
So, I have a question about your fan-fic and you might have mentioned it before and I just missed it, but I will ask anyway: what is the rating on your fan-fic: PG, PG-13, PG-17, R (I am thinking that it wouldn’t be higher if it is written like a drama and staying within the frames of a drama. Am I correct in assuming so?) I am asking because in your response to Ricky on this thread, you said that the male lead was getting grabby which makes me wonder: how grabby is he going to get? Is he eventually going to go all the way? Who is the female lead again, please? (Who is she on this thread?)
In your response to me, you also said that the mayhem would be starting soon. Will my character be a part of the mayhem? (I am just wondering because I am curious, that’s all).
You mentioned that you are moving soon (I think), where to? I hope it will go well for you. Have a great weekend!
@ Ivoire -
A response to your response – lol. I may need to measure it’s length against yours…
A) I’ve done a quick online skim for that FR-BU dictionary, but it may be serendipity to find that site again. I won’t give up, though, because I know it’s out there (unless it’s Shangri-La and only shows up every 100 years).
B) Multi-tasking over food is an Italian tradition, whether it’s eating or cooking (remember the OT where I made Malaysian food while chatting with everyone onthread?).
C) My fan-fic, hmm, will probably be rated a PG-13. My regular writing tends to be a lot racier than that, but part of the challenge is keep the writing within the bounds of standard KDrama fare. In terms of Rickie’s “grabbiness”, I look at that as more hand-holding and less goofy looks over food.
D) The female half of the OTP is a fabrication based on my best friend who lives in San Antonio, TX. I made the decision from the beginning not to base her on any existing OT chingu, to eliminate any catfighting or Shuk-bashing over Ricky’s avatar.
The RL Meaghan is contributing to the fan-fic, mostly with editing and the espionage, sabotage, and general sneakiness portions of the story arc.
At this point in time, there is no Shuk character; I tend to make myself the landlady or the local crazy woman who talks to buildings and has a couple dozen cats. LOL. I haven’t decided my incarnation yet for this work.
E) Your character is currently being stalked by a shadowy female figure, in Bankgok by the Wat Chana Songkram buddhist temple off of Khao Sao Road. Will you escape? Only I know! Mwuahaha!
In terms of mayhem, John and Ani are on the gas platform in the South China Sea, with a mysterious aluminum briefcase.
CMPrindle’s covert ops in China have yielded wiretapping information regarding an event that’s going to occur during a series of back-to-back festivals in SE Asia starting June 1 (10 book-days out from the last published chapter).
Plus Leaf’s birthday party this coming book-weekend; a bunch of girls at a slumber party is almost the definition of mayhem…
F) I’ve made the decision to rent a mother-in-law suite in North Carolina, just over the Virginia border, so that move will be accomplished in April. After being homeless since I sold my house in December, it’ll be a nice change!
My Birthday Party… oh god… this is not gonna go well ^shudders^
Awww, Leaf! It’s Tina’s Sweet Sixteen! What can go wrong?
Unless you want it crashed by a group of black-leathered bikers, the leader of which has your name tattooed down his arm with red roses and barbed wire entwining the letters…
Wait, that almost sounds like a good idea…
What would be your idea of a fun party?
Haha I think Leaf would definately appriciate the tattoo
Personally I don’t really like my birthday that much. I used to be one of those over the top hyper kids but several years ago I discovered I just didn’t care anymore.
Now my Mum organises what we do for my birthday because she knows I would never organise anything for myself. It’s normally a haircut (being taken by my dad so therfore hell and leaves me in a bad mood) and a meal out with my Mum. This year I won’t be home and will have exams though (not that’ll do any work) so I guess nothing much. I might buy a cake?
Fun party… I honestly have no idea. I guess being with my friends… hmm… I’m wouldn’t be good at organising parties. Here’s a conversation between me and my Mum before she was going away and leaving me alone in the house for a month.
Me: I’m gonna hold a mad wild teenage party while you’re gone.
Mum: Really? How many people are you inviting?
Me: Um… three?
Mum: That doesn’t really make a mad wild teenage party does it?
Me: I guess not…
^sigh^ I fail as a teenager…
Aww Leaf, I’ll try and give her a fun one, then. No angst, promise.
“In terms of mayhem, John and Ani are on the gas platform in the South China Sea, with a mysterious aluminum briefcase. ”
Hahaha. Were we wearing black suits with bells on our shoes Running Man style?
@ Ani – Chapter 23
“….Behind him was a young woman with nondescript short brown hair, dressed conservatively in a dark blue dress pant and suit. She was carrying a metal briefcase in one hand, a large duffel slung over her right shoulder. He gestured her forward.
“This is Ani. She’s in the final stages of her doctorate in geophysics and will be assisting me during this inspection.” She nodded towards the group, but didn’t say anything. “If you could show us where to stow our things, we can start the discussion soon after…”
Shuk,
You shouldn’t be called Shukmeister but the Spinmeister instead. I feel like this is an opening for me to help write the story, but I like how you’re handling it. Please, feel free to continue either here or next OT. I look forward to your next installment. Hahahaha.
MOTHER OF MOSES!!! I visited your blog Spinmeister, and WOW! Where have I been? Under a rock? *runs off to read*
Um, Ani?, doesn’t that make me the mother of an old guy that’s been dead for 4000 years? Thanks, I think…
lol
Ani, I’m basing the story on KDrama tropes and standard plot arcs, so a lot of it is probably predictable.
But in case I can actually blow your socks off, here’s an excerpt approximately one week later book-time:
—————————————–
“…Rickie’s phone immediately rang again. He quickly turned away from JoAnne and opened his phone again, hoping it was Meaghan. Instead, it read “Unavailable”. He answered it anyway, and an unfamiliar female voice spoke.
“Good evening, Prince. I hope you’re feeling proud of yourself regarding today’s events.”
“Who are you?” he all but growled.
“I’m just looking for some information from you. And before you hang up, you might want to see this.”
A beep on his phone announced the delivery of a video.
Rickie was stunned speechless, his heart in his throat. The picture was distorted and wavered a bit, but there was no mistaking what he was seeing.
A featureless room. And an unmoving Meaghan, chained to a metal bed.
Rickie felt a howl trying to get out as his free hand curled into a fist…”
Oh Shuk,
Hahahaha. “Mother of Moses” is an expression I use a lot, to be followed by other things like “Son of a Mother” and “gorrammit”. Hahahaha. Sorry for the confusion. Also: “Who are you?” he all but growled. Reading through the excerpt… I may have read too many harlequin/Nora Roberts/Juila Quinn/Romantic Novels in High School, but there’s quite some, er, erotic tones going on in your writing my friend. *wiggles eyebrows* You are the Spinmeister indeed. ^_~ Kekekeke. XD
Ani – I hope you enjoyed reading it. I just added Chaper 28 right off the hot keyboard at work- lol.
Feel free to comment on anything you’d like to see in the story. Since it’s new for you, the concept is to write a story on the fly, several chapters a week, incorporating statements, concepts, or anything that catches my eye during the OT discussions.
With few exceptions, all characters in the story are inspired by, based on, or used with impunity, the screen names from OT as well. It is, however, a work of pure fiction.
My previous works were a little more along the line of Vickie Thompson in terms of their language. If you’re interested, I can email a pdf copy of my most recent completed work, Hidden Agenda.
That having been said, the YT link in your screen name, is that you? And if so, what part of UK does the accent come from? I’d like to incorporate that into your character, if possible.
Thanks for the positives! This ahjumma appreciates it…
Hrm. Hahaha. That’s not me in the YT link. That’s Natalie Tran, a sassy lass from Australia.
As for my accent. *squirms a little* I, uh, have two accents – believe it or not. My Dad is American and my Mom is Samoan/British/Australian so I grew up speaking an American Accent for school (US school system) and then for summer and the holidays I spoke a Samoan-New Zealand accent because I would spend it with my mom’s side of the family (this accent also comes out when I’m very very drunk, and makes for some very very embarrassing scenes as I try to rein it in as my American friends look on with amusement).
Thanks for the response Ani! I changed the story to give your voice “an exotic mixture of American and Samoan”…
Hahahaha.
Exotic American-Samoan accent? Cute. Hahaha. If anyone wonders what a Samoan accent is, it’s pretty much the same as a Kiwi (New Zealand) accent. ^^; Until Friday Shuk.
Aaaand, she’s back!!! Hahaha
Yes, I agree about what you said about being sensitive towards where you come from and that the media is doing a bad job in portraying the correct information. I get funny question a lot of times and it gets frustrating to correct the misconceptions about my hometown and people.
And the same goes to you as Iv, Adik. Let me know if anything needs to be reworded; I don’t want to offend anyone if I can help it.
I WAS thinking of adding in a cave scene though, maybe one with Internet and a hot tub. LOL.
Adik??? Wow, people would call me abang instead so that’s a first!
LOL at the cave scene. HAHAHA
Well, Abang is the Malay equivalent of “oppa”, I think, so maybe we can get the Movie Noonas to swap languages…hee
—
but you should still expect the pout / wiggle.
I’m game.
Is it more bang, or more bong?
No, no, no.
Calling me Abang would mean war. I hate it when girls call me that, actually. It makes me feel old, for some odd reason.
It’s more like ‘bung’.
I won’t use it…but I like to know what a word sounds like when I say it in my head.
Not that I’m going to say it in my head to you. Just, you know, if I come across it.
Hi Ricky,
Good to hear from you!!! It felt like you had been avoiding me for a while, hopefully we can clear the air today. How are you? And how is life treating you?
You know, I made that comment about me being back because it seems that I don’t seem to be able to write short comments for too long. I think I do Ok, occasionally, when I ask questions or like this week where I wrote (literally) just one paragraph as a comment on a few posts by DB. For the most part, my comments as we know tend to be long. I knew when I responded to Shukie that I had written a lot, I just didn’t think that it was that long… Oh well, at least it is informative right? So it’s not just verbiage.
You know when you get funny or weird questions a few times about your place of origin, I think it’s Ok, people don’t know, and it is what it is. However, when that happens quite often or a lot, then it’s like “argh!!!!, what you would have done if you hadn’t met me to ask these kinds of questions? Please go educate yourself and use the free resources available”. I don’t say that of course, but seriously… I have gotten questions like “who IS the president of Africa (like Africa is a country) and what IS the capital of Africa (again Africa is not a country, it is the 2nd largest continent with 54 countries and some islands)” and it has contributed to the world since time immemorial and continues to do so like every country/continent does, no matter how small the country might be. We might just not know about it yet.
And I know about the misrepresentation of Africa in the US media because I wrote a paper about it in my Mass Communication Class, when I was in college. The findings were really interesting and I got an “A” of course. My professor liked my paper so much that she made a copy of it to put it in the library so that other students taking that class could use my paper as an example on how to do research, the methodology and the writing of a paper in a Mass Comm class. It was an honor and I learned a lot in the process, so I am not saying what I said just out of anger or sensitive feelings. It has been my experience living abroad and I do have the research to back it up.
People might not realize it (I don’t know how?) but some comments/questions are just plain hurtful. I have had people ask me if Cameroon (after I said that it was my country) was the name of a dish (as in food you eat), yeah… You can just imagine my face/reaction…Wow, can you imagine your country being reduced to a dish? Where do I even start? So, I have learned to take things with a grain of salt (ignorant people will be ignorant, and some choose to be that way) but sometimes, you wonder if we all live in the same century and on the same planet because it doesn’t always seem to be the case and that can be hard to stomach. I am still human, after all. Because I am a woman doesn’t mean that I am sensitive all the time (because I don’t think I am).
Ivoire, re: Camaroon being the name of a dish – people are silly, but I wonder if the person asking you was thinking of camarones – which is Spanish for shrimp? Or yummy, delicious, coconutty macaroons, or even the special fancy macarons that the French make (no coconut in them, sadly…)
My only experience with being a foreigner was 3 years in Germany, which cannot compare to your experiences. Well ok, maybe my three years in Texas, married into an hispanic family – that might count, too…and was actually the much more confusing of the two, by far!
But in general what I think is that most people aren’t trying to be hurtful, they’re searching for ways to connect with someone different, and maybe they just should be thinking a tiny bit more before they ask that conversational question.
@ Iv
No, I was not avoiding you. I’m sorry if I made you feel that way. It’s hard for me to find the time to reply sometimes, considering how busy I can be with my assignments and revisions.
I’m coping pretty well. I met my academic adviser yesterday and had a long chat with her. I like her, she’s like a therapist except I don’t have to pay a fortune to talk to her. I have 3 papers due next week and also 2 tests to study for.
And how are you?
Hi Ricky,
.* There are times when I am around people and I just don’t have anything to say, even with one of my best friends. So I don’t say anything. When that happens, people start asking me if I’m OK, and they ask many times. It seems like they are not convinced when I say that I am OK, I am just listening to what is being said (LOL). Their insistence however used to make me feel bad, and I used to defend myself (LOL) and say that they were giving me a bad name (read a bad rap), making it sound like all I did was talk (which now that I think about it was partially true, LOL, but at the time I didn’t want to admit it LOL
).
Glad we are continuing to communicate. Your comment about my short post being surprising was interesting, because I get that in real life. Believe it or not, but I don’t talk ALL the time, *no, seriously
So I would become a little defensive and say I didn’t talk all the time, which honestly I really don’t, it would just surprise people when I would be quiet. It is better now, because people know that I can talk but I also have my quiet times. I have also learn who to be talkative with and who to keep it short with. We are all a work in progress, right… So, tbh, there are times when on this site my comments are just a few lines long or one or two lines long if I have a question. It was just funny that it surprised you and Shukie with its length (the 1st post). Well, we got a good laugh out of that one.
Thank you for your apology, it is accepted. I do have to say that it did feel like you were avoiding me because the last time we corresponded was on OT 226, page 5 (I went and checked). I wrote the last post, and you never commented or responded to it. I was OK with that, even though I was a little surprised, because I shared some stuff that I thought would have elicited a response from you. I was just curious about what you would have said, I guess… This was also after I asked you if you wanted to be friends on FB, to which you said “NO,” an answer I was actually OK with (I thought it was worth a try and I left it at that). The thing that threw me for a loop however, was that when I would participate in the following OTs, you wouldn’t say “Hi” or make a funny comment like you would in the past, and yet you would do it with others. It felt a little strange, because it was different. Everyone else seemed to treat me the same, but you. It made wonder if I had revealed too much on OT 226 (and I would say I didn’t, not more than Mysti did today, and she got a great response. Not that I am jealous of her or anything but that showed me that it is OK to open up in that way, period. People on this OT and on this blog will embrace you). It also made me wonder if I had pushed you away because of the FB request. I guess underneath it all, I was partially missing our banter and the correspondence, if I may be so honest. I decided to give you your space and just let the chips fall where they may (or they would in this instance). And so, here we are. I guess I just didn’t know how to read the situation, hence the importance of communicating, I guess.
That being said, I am glad that things are going well for you at school and with your advisor. I am HUGE on education, and so I definitely would not want anything to interfere with your schooling. I think no one here would. I hope you will do well on your papers and in your tests. Ricky, Fighting!!! What subjects are you currently studying?
I am doing good. I gave my update on “Ivoire 4.1.2, the first 4 paragraphs” if you want to know. I hope what I said earlier didn’t make you uncomfortable, because that was not my intent. I merely wanted to be honest and let you know how I had been processing things on my end. Don’t be offended, but I see you as a little bit of my little brother, so I think I got attached a little as can be expected when people get to know one another, just as I am getting attached a little bit to Mysti, and JoAnne, and Shukie and Cynthia and Shel and others I am getting to know here. I think it is because I care about people, as most of us do here. I am not trying to be possessive or anything and I hope I didn’t come across that way.
Again, it is good to hear from you. What time is it in your part of the world, now?
Aww, that was sweet! I’m glad that you think of me like a little brother. Again, I must apologize. Sometimes I would be reading posts on the OT and think “Oh, I’m going to comment on that!” but then it would slip off my mind. I blame my brain. I can be very absent-minded especially about things like this. That’s why I have a tonne of post-it notes on my wall to remind me of important stuff, actually.
Even if I don’t reply, know that I would most probably have read and thought fondly of you (and all the others as well) when I’m reading your posts. Once I start commenting I generally couldn’t stop. I would feel bad if I comment on one person’s post but don’t comment on what the others have posted, but my fears came true and I’m sorry that you were the one who had to experience it.
Also, I’m scared of saying “Hi, Iv. I’ll get back on this one later” because I don’t like breaking promises. It wouldn’t be very fair to you if I somehow forgot about commenting afterwards.
Two of the subjects I’m studying this semester are Anatomy & Physiology and Biochemistry.
Hi Ricky,
This is late (relatively) but I still wanted to respond to your response
. I had been meaning to get to it but as you know (I am sure), life happened.
Thank you for your response and for apologizing again, I appreciate it. You know, the other thing that threw me for a loop was the fact that we were having an ongoing conversation that was getting very interesting (remember that comment I made about feeling like my mother wanted me to go “From my parents’ house to my husband’s house,” I was going to explain it later) and it felt that the conversation had been dropped. It made me wonder if I had something to do with it.
In any case, you did apologize and I accepted it. I just wanted you to see and understand where I was coming from.
You made a comment about wanting to respond to as many posts as possible, and I can totally relate to that because I am the same way. And the issue with me is that I am also long winded, so you can imagine how time consuming contributing here can be. I have to say that I have learned quite a bit by reading these posts and by contributing as well, and it is something that I have enjoyed doing, so it’s not like I am complaining. I actually appreciate that you took the time to explain that you wanted to respond to many posts, which was hard to keep up with. I understand that and I appreciate your honesty.
It really helps when people communicate because it confirms the fact that we can’t read people’s minds and we shouldn’t assume things. That is one of the reasons why I would rather ask questions when I don’t understand or when I am not sure of something, instead of assuming that I know.
You mentioned that you have 3 papers (I think) and 2 tests or vice versa. I hope that you will do well in all of those. I hope that your week started well and will end well also.
Take care,
So true. I have to catch up on your fic shuk!
Please do. It’s going along at a good pace.
I stated downthread I wrote some of the dark chapters this week, so I can tell you, your avatar will have a chance to kick some butt at a later time.
In fact, you might even get the chance to get Rickie drunk… lol
If you follow JoAnne’s comments closely, the thinks I’M drunk half the time…but yay for kickass! LOVE IT SHUK! I’m going to get other people to read your story too.
Everybody needs a friend to first pour your soju and then pour you into bed.
And remembeer, even if you are the China ops director, you’re still an agent.
You are.
Reread my post and realize I had a Freudian slip:
“Remembeer” – I mean, isn’t that the one thing it doesn’t do?
lol
Happy Weekend, all my OT buddies!
Finished watching “Wonderful Life”, but that’s about it this week – work has been busy with a lot of people taking sick leave. I hope everyone else is healthy!
Wonderful Life was my first Kdrama. I liked it very much!
I watched it on your recommendation! It was pretty good. I haven’t seen anything else that Lee Ji Hoon has done, though. And I felt the overwhelming urge to suck on his lower lip…
His lower lip is big and wide!
It bothers a bit. Haha
How could I forget he was the second lead in that drama? Too many dramas lead to forgetfulness, could I use that as a excuse?
In any case Lee Ji Hoon sexiness…why did you have to mention him? I can’t be daydreaming at this time of the day!!!
His lips are mine!!!
Seriously, though, has he done anything recently? I think I would remember him.
My Daughter the Flower (SBS, 2011) daily
Identical Criminals (KBS2, 2011) special
and that explains why we haven’t seen him
Found the special – downloaded it. Thanks!
Lee Ji Hoon was the lead on Hello Miss.
I heard him sing for the first time in a “talent show” scene, dressed in drag in that rom-com. I was curious. I Found a cd of his and YesAsia, ordered it and fell in love with his singing. I find his voice very soothing, but not boring. Similar to Super Junior’s Yesung’s voice.
I believe that the only singing he’s done since 2007 has been in musicals.
You might want to see these live performances at his Tokyo concert
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCI-mvHnDwg&feature=related
Sweet!!! Thanks
My ex-boyfriend -who was also my first love- really really looked like him, every time I see him I feel a bit sad.Heh,I guess Korean drama heros and their inability to forget their first love has had a really deep impact on me!I can’t seem to forget him!
remember how I said uhm tae woong looks like someone I can date, turns out he looks exactly like one of my exboyfriends! I was looking through some old photographs and there he was. I liked that guy a lot he cancelled so many dates last minute, he never had a working phone. He was a broke musician and it drove me crazy.
But it was his fault that you guys broke up.In my case ,it was my fault. That’s why it makes me sad every time I see him…
Who can forget their first love, shirin noona?
Especially us, hopeless romantics who watch Kdramas.
Lol,you’re right oppa:)
I have one like that, shirin-noona. We were childhood friends, he took me on my first date, and we dated through high school. It’s a long story, but I still wonder what would have happened if I’d have been smarter. I adore his wife, she was one of my closest friends, he met her at my birthday party after we were no longer dating. And, they are very happy, and I am with my hubby. But it doesn’t change the wondering about “what if”, you know? Part of it is maybe nostalgia…I dunno.
Shel, have you seen the movie “Mr Destiny”? It’s from the 80s and I was a child when I saw it,It was about this guy who kept asking “what if” and then Mr Destiny showed him the what if part…I wish there was someone like that in real life ,you know, someone who could show us the what if part .
I haven’t seen it….I’ll have to look for it.
Yeah, by the time you get to my age, there are alot of “what ifs”. Even if you’re as happy as I am; I have a great hubby who I adore, good kids, a reasonably comfortable life and wonderful friends.
It would be interesting to see where my life would have led had I made different choices, even though I’m sure that I would end up sticking with what I have.
Just watched Wonderful Life a few days ago. Did not know about this drama until it was mentioned here (Ricky, I guess).
I’ve watched Eugene’s and Kim Jae Won’s dramas but this was the first time I saw Lee Ji Hoon. And the first thing I noticed was his lower lip! Nibbling and munching instantly came to mind.
Haven’t seen him in any recent dramas, though.
Loved the little girl in WL – both the character and the child actor who played her.
Yeah, I’m not sure if she still acts, but, man! She was cute as a button.
I had hoped for a bit more realism; I worked for three years in a Children’s Hospital in the Hematology/Ocology Ward (blood disease and cancer). I thought they should really lose her hair, moreso than just a clump or two. I would imagine a lot of people would have strenuously objected, but it would have lent more realism (considering it’s implied that all the other kids were bald).
Still, I really enjoyed the series.
Happy Friday Shuk! Hope you don’t get sick! I remember when everyone at my workplace took turns catching a cold. Lots of sniffling everywhere and all Kleenex vanished within a day.
Purell is a wonderful thing. So is Lysol. It’s a shame we don’t delouse our prisoners, lol. Just kidding.
Trying to keep away from the sickies as much as possible, and I’ve been continuously wiping down all public surfaces to keep the bacteria count down.
I promise I’ll try to keep the writing going, no matter what. In fact, if anyone is interested, I can put in an excerpt from one of the ‘dark’ chapters that are coming soon…
Seriously guys, you’re adding ANOTHER drama to the list.
Happy OT drama peeps!
Happy OT, kewbie!
Hello ricky! I hope your day/night has been well. As for me i am sitting in a restaurant waiting for my meal. It’s good I have a lot of Dramabeans posts to read. How are you?
It’s around 1.30am for me.
I am good, thank you. My eye-bags have officially mutated and I’m a bit hungry. Staying up late always makes me hungry. What are you having?
I went to vending machine to get barbq chips and the thing gave me two for the price of one. I definitely deserve it because it’s given me .25 instead of .75 change at least 3 times! I had lychee vita juice and left over lo mein.
I had fish and chips. It was actually pretty good but I didn’t get a chance to finish it. You should probably go to sleep, huh? Otherwise you’ll think too much about food.
Chicken fried rice and boneless barbecue pork. And for those of you familiar with NYC and the general American craze for cupcakes…my darling daughter and her best friend were in NYC yesterday and came home well after I was asleep. So I woke up this morning to a surprise! Red velvet cupcake with cream cheese frosting, and not just from anywhere, either – from Crumbs, one of the best cupcake bakeries out there! (Magnolia Street is my favorite…but no one is ever near there
Some of the best food I ever had in my life was London fish and chips… greasy, salty, wrapped in newspaper, with vinegar… DELICIOUS!
Working on the meat wagon tonight, so I’ll be up for a while here. Dinner was a vegetarian cosmo sub sandwich, with the bread just tiniest bit burnt on the edges – heaven!
A bag of salt-n-vinegar potato chips, and the one Diet Dr Pepper I allow myself per day. Luckily, I’m only 2 1/4 hours away from tomorrow!
What are you having?
What kind of restaurant are you in that has internet? (Or maybe I just live behind the moon.)
Oopps, just saw you told ricky what you were having.
Are you in the UK? (fish & chips and all)
Oh fine. Now I’m craving fish and chips from Greedy’s in whatever little Cotswold village that was.
And I’m in California. Bummer.
@alua
I’m in Atlanta, actually. I just had fish and chips because it’s a Friday during Lent, and I’m observing the no-meat-on-Fridays thing.
I’ve been to the UK but I don’t think I’ve ever had fish and chips there.
I had INDIAN FOOOOOOOOD. And lots of Khee…heehee.
@kewbie. So they don’t call it Fish & French Fries (or Freedom Fries, LOL) in the US?
@alua
Nah they still call it fish and chips here.
There are a few restaurants that do have wifi of some sort, although when I was checking OT I was just using my own data connection. I had an urge to read Dramabeans at that moment.
That’s it, I’m dragging my friends to the nearest fish and chips joint for dinner tonight!
Aww…I’m glad I inspired your dinner choice, albeit indirectly.
**Uh-oh…**
Why does this keep happening to me?! This is either serendipity or just plain bizarre.
OTers, anyone else up?
Helloooooo??
See how upset I just got?! I forgot to attach my comment to the #1 post…
I was waiting in the wings, because I hate being first.
Okay, I lied. I was on the NASCAR website and lost track of time before my OT alarm went off.
It’s ok
It will get back to normal soon! But OT do seem to be slower these last few weeks!
Leaf!!! How are you doing today?
Yea, OT has been slow, I think partially because Ricky has been here to get our hearts a pitter-pattering. lol
For me, it’s twofold: (1) I’ve been pretty busy during my downtimes when I pop online; and (2) My internet has been intermittent for about 2 weeks now. Hopefully that’ll change once I move.
As always, though, there’s definitely stuff to share!
Unni!! Hope you have a good week <3
Oh…. bad internet… definately one of the worst things ever.
And yeah, I guess being busy makes it more difficult to post etc. I wouldn't know… I just ignore important stuff ^sigh^
lol -
I managed to whip out about 3000 words of my fanfic this week, so the brain is slightly fried. With no internet to distract me, the story is forming at a pretty good clip.
Plus, one of the police officers I work with was involved in a serious MVA with a drunk driver who then fled the scene. I took my angst out and typed up the darker chapters. They are still a bit farther out in the story, but I felt better for using all that negative energy.
Still, I’m happy to be here. We had a record 87F / 30.6C temperatures yesterday. I slept through most of it, but still got to nap outside.
I’ve been seeing all the awesomeness that you’ve been posting <3 That's so good cause I am such a slow writer ^sigh^ I'm never gonna finish writing anything…
oh and yeah… harnessing the dark power truely is a great way to write. Almost always comes out fast and requiring very little rewriting!! YAY!!
And 30C???? wow… sure it is not summer there? When we get temperature that high the whole country shuts down…
Yep, it’s pretty warm – but I like it!!
I am here!!!
And my morning just got brighter, R.
Terima Kasih!
It’s funny how I speak more Malay with you than with the people around me.
Sama-sama!
Too much of that darn research and my nosy thirst for knowledge. Hopefully, you and your friends aren’t laughing too much at my use of your language.
With the exception of the Duanwu Festival (part of the upcoming chapters), I’m trying to keep it as accurate as possible. If only that festival was actually June 3rd this year it would have been perfect: Gawai Dayak, King Harijadi Agong’s Birthday, Dragon Boat Festival, BOOM.
Yay! The party can start now!
No, no. Use it as you please. I’m happy to offer assistance about the language too. I need all the practice I can get since I speak mostly English here.
Researching for writing is the best!!
I spend hours figuring out each little detail. Suppose I really should be writing instead but it’s fun! <3
Some of the research has been interesting.
In a list of Malay-based English words, I found:
* Cockatoo / kakaktua
* Agar – the culture gel I used in Biology got it’s name from the Malay word for red seaweed.
* Dugong / duyung, meaning ‘mermaid’
and my personal favorite:
* Cooties / Kutu, meaning ‘lice’
The South China Sea has an estimated 7.7 billion barrels of oil ad 266 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.
Malaysia spends 2.03% of its GDP on military expenditures. USA spends 4.06%.
It’s also a UN Tier 2 Watch List for human trafficking.
And so forth and so on. Very little is getting into the fanfic except in passing, but it’s still fun.
LOL You got cooties, don’t touch me!
It doesn’t sound as poetic when you say it in Malay.
an effect of the solar flare too?
Happy Weekend!
HELLOOOOO!
Everytime I see your name, I think about the time I was in Italy and the cute little Italian doorman couldn’t say our violist’s name properly. She was Cynthia too. But he called her “Cheen-see-ah”
Makes me think of ‘You’ve Got Mail’ and that one character, Che-chi-li-ya – who turned out just to be Cecilia.
Hehe, got to love the Italians. I really enjoyed them my 3 weeks there.
Good morning! Happy OT! ^^
Finished watch Moon embracing sun…. Good show, could have been better though.
Can’t wait for the last episode of skip beat this weekend. ^^
Glowing she: actually not bad… waiting for last episode too!
Saw the end of Captain: meh…. was alright.
Will have to catch up on some of Tdramas: Fondant garden, love foward and my splendid life.
Can’t wait for rooftop prince, king2hearts and fashionking.
Any other dramas I should be checking out?
Also, I’ve been watching alot of Bigbang’s mv’s(repeats) on youtube@@! LIke, wow, fantastic baby!
Me, too.
Pretty much all I listen to in the car, at the office and at home.
Did you see Eat Your Kimchee did BB three Mondays in a row?
I heard about that! go BigBang! I watched the review on fantastic baby! pretty good!
I’m waiting for my Alive album to get to me! I ordered a week ago and haven’t seen it yet. gosh, it better get here today! LOL
You can get almost all of their stuff on iTunes, too.
jomo: yep.. but I wan’ted a physical one where I can hold it.
LOL and my little niece who’s six loves Bigbang too.
I totally agree with getting a real album
KOREAN CD PACKAGING IS AMAZING!!
And appartently this CD is particually epic in packaging (as well as the music!) <3
Can't wait till mine arrives!!
Leaf: yes! I love their packaging. sooo unlike americans. I’ve got their other album and was blown away. I have tablo’s also and I gotta say, it’s worth every penny.
Oh Tablo’s latest album?? Cool <3 I need to buy that when I go to Korea!!
And the packaging makes english albums look so pathetic and unimaginative. It's a disgrace really.
My twin IU's Last Fantasy special edition is the best so far I've got but Big Bang's last album is close as well! <3
leaf: see, i don’t listen to rap cuz it’s harsh…don’t like the way it’s sung i suppose.
I wasn’t much of a kpop fan before until Big band and Tablo.
I was really blown away with Tablo and Top’s voices.
Epik High were my first K pop band and I still love them to this day. Although I do prefer their more mainstream stuff which has less rap so I guess even with them I don’t like rap that much…
But I do like some of their very rappy songs as well, but mainly for the lyrics!
Are there any problems with the CD’s in the States? I thought they had to be region-specific or something like that.
Nope! CDs are universal!! It’s only DVDs which have that problem
I listened to a couple of song from epik high on youtube. It wasn’t bad. I guess I just like Tablo’s voice.
I ordered my CDs from yesasia.com and had no problem with it. I didn’t like them adding the international fees but oh well, it was worth to just get the albums.
I’ve heard the Big Bang album is in an aluminum packaging whilst the individual members’ is in a tin packaging. I’ve seen pictures on the web of fans cooking on the aluminum packaging to see how it can be used in different ways, heh.
haha!! Martina is a hardcore VIP…she LOVES TOP!! umm, viz common knowledge!! She soooo lucky..she got to meet GD backstage last year at Inkigayo!! ughhhh
Dang, lucky her!
did she get autographs too?
@ cv: dunno abt the autograph. But, the vid’s on their channel “Eatyourkimchi” on YT. Just search for inkigayo on their channel.
I totally watch Eat your Kimchi…Simon and Martina are pretty funny but sometimes their off-topic jokes take longer than I expect them to. Still, I enjoy their videos.
Who hasn’t been? <3
That album deserves to be on repeat. It’s Fantastic baby….
yup! it’s fantastic baby!
I’m planning to get one of my friend into listening to kpop or just BigBang after I get my album.
The other friends aren’t into Korean music. Oh well….
If they decided to do an English version of
Fantastic Baby, it would be unstoppable in the US.
I hope they do too. But you know, sometime the translations or how it’s pronoucation isn’t the same. Of the three languages: Mandarin, Japanese and Korean, in the music industry—-I have to say, Korean is lyrically more sounded to the ear.
@cv
Definitely. When folks listen to what I play, many of them assume it is french.
Oh god… the idea of an english version of Fantastic Baby both makes me super excited and fills me with horror…
I hate rap and all that in english music but like it much of the time in k pop. I believe this is because it doesn’t sound harsh like it does in english. I’m not sure that an english version could replicate that.
jomo: LOL
Some people I know can’t even tell the difference between groups of asians or where they are from. To them, we are all Chinese. I thought that was hilarious.
leaf: that’s what i’m saying!! I can’t really stand rap….must be cuz it sound so harsh in english? but in Korean, it sounds like… like music…nice and melody even though it’s rap. weird eh?
Perhaps you could start off w/ Tonight, Love Song, their Japanese songs, Haru Haru (acoustic), Lies etc?
saima:I love Tonight! it’s really catchy and awsome beat. ^^
I also love Tell Me Goodbye and Sunset Glow…and that Knock Out song GD and TOP did always makes me laugh to watch it, plus the lyrics are very catchy.
Well, Western rap more often is about drugs, hoes, partying etc viz off putting to me atleast. Whereas BB’s songs are abt love/heartbreak etc. Altho, you should watch their song “Lollipop 2″ w/ eng subs. ohhh, that one (altho a lot tamer by Western stds) has dirrrrrty lyrics. heh
It looks like I am going to have to be the one to say it.
BOOM SHAKA LAKA
BOOM SHAKA LAKA
BOOM SHAKA LAKA
Dance dance dance dance
BOOM SHAKA LAKA
BOOM SHAKA LAKA
BOOM SHAKA LAKA
Dance dance dance dance
Wow Fantastic Baby
It needed to be said! <3
I do love how – especially in their older songs – Big Bang borrows so faithfully and lovingly from early rap/hip hop. There’s one whole video – I can’t remember the name of the song now, but it starts with GD yelling at someone to go out and sweep the street – practically every line is recognizable from a song that I knew and loved 20 years ago. I don’t know who wrote it – I assume GD – but I admire the depth of his knowledge of music that – let’s face it – probably predates his birth, and certainly is from another language, culture, continent.
Very fond of these boys.
@ Jomo: lulz!! The phrases: wow, FB!! and boom shakalaka are being abused in my household! Yes, I’m VERY mature!!
@ JoAnne: on YT I believe there’s a vid of a 9-10 y.o GD where he’s rapping old school and performing on stage!! Apparently, SM rejected him cuz he was NOT good-looking!! *rolls eyes* You so shallow, SM!! heh. anyways, he has been training under YG since he was 13 y.o!! I did read somewhere but don’t know the authenticity of this but GD would clean up the YG buldgs when he was younger….so, yeah, good for him that he’s being acknowledged these days for his inherent talent for music!!
Have you heard Dae’s “Look at me, Gwisoon”? You should read the backstory of that song…it’s just darn adorable!! GD composed the chorus of that song spontaneously on a variety show and ‘gifted’ it to Dae since D. loves trot music!! So heartwarming!! <3
LOL. it’s SM’s lost. I’m glad they didn’t keep GD. He’s doing well YG family.
Saima – yes, I had read the story about it at one point – that made me go look for the video. Absolutely fell out laughing watching Daesung be so cheesy and having fun – here that’s what we’d call a lounge singer, for sure! GD is developing strong producing skills, that’s certain.
I like that he makes stuff up on the spot because I do that, too. When my daughter was young I would make up songs about the things we were driving past or what we were doing, and her friends used to always want to ride places with us to see what crazy thing I would come up with next – a story about a tree we pass or a song about a bird, you name it. At work, I come up with haikus to make my co-workers laugh.
Dramabeans Haiku
Funny comments here make me
Blow Coke out my nose.
And that just made me do the same thing, Shuk…
And, as always, Shel
I start stuff with smiles and then
finish on a laugh!
Oh yes. I haven’t been that crazy about a song/mv since DBSK’s Mirotic. Which is a darn long time.
Yes…fantastic baby is just… well, fantastic. I hope they do mvs for all the other songs too.
I forced my daughter to watch that because I wanted her to see TOP’s hair, since she loves to make hers different colors. She said ‘ they sound like LMFAO’ and was not impressed, although she has listened more appreciatively to them when I’ve pointed out things in the past. My too cool for school kid with the shaved head who only listens to dubstep these days…she’ll come back around
Meanwhile I, on the other hand, am LOVING their new releases. Well, what I’ve heard: Blue, Bad Boy, Daesung’s Wings, and then Fantastic Baby. Favorites are Blue and Fantastic Baby. Their English is getting better, LOL.
Tablo – I think I really have only heard one or two songs and especially like the song he did with Jinsil from Mad Soul Child – Bad. I would like to hear more.
Gosh, TOP look so smexy in Fantastic baby. That man’s got the look—manliness. 0_0 And he didn’t even have to take off his shirt.
Tablo’s Bad was awsome! I liked it better then Tomorrow.
Oh yeah, that TOP guy is one good-looking mofo. I think he did a fashion-y spread in Cosmo not too long ago. He was rocking a bow tie, if I recall correctly.
Big Bang are definately getting better and better!!
And for Epik High I love ‘One’ and ‘Love love love’ and ’1 minute 1 second’ and others but I’ve forgotten them now.
But seriously… ‘One’ is a perfect song <3
One of the reasons I love southern Florida is because I’m mesmerized by the night-time fluorescent neon colors splashed up against the tall white buildings. And that’s what I think of every time I see TOP’s new hair color. I could look at that teal color endlessly, running my fingers through it, all dreamy and spaced out…..
i love Big Bang too.. but i just watched one video several hours ago and there’s no title so it drives me crazy not knowing. its not Blue. it has this catchy tunes that keep repeating itself in my head.
can you repeat any of it at all? Someone here would probably know.
The english lyrics are “I know you know”
I love Blue! I even got the hubby into BigBang. Total awesomeness.
If it’s from ALIVE it’s called “Ain’t no fun!!”
Since, I’m in a GOOD mood here’s the linky of their perf @ M! Countdown
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rEvHjXxrhUE&feature=player_embedded#!
LOL wowowo.. thanks. vips! ^^
it is! and that the performance i saw. but i saw them from the middle so thank you!! its so catchy..
omigoshhh!! I’ve missed ALL this Big Bang discussion!!! waeee?
But, yeah they’re awesome!! They’re receiving so much love these days. I.AM.SOOO.HAPPY!! like spazztastic happy!! Among other things they were feat. on Grammy’s homepage. GD esp is receiving all these love calls from musicians, directors etc. GD just makes me blush like a green school girl….i think i’m more touched by his personality offstage….he’s soo shy & respectful!! Watch @4:16
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9UOGY_yipI&lc=kSNb2uCi5bWjypovqiHi3pp3kMVug-4XSzgHm-N54nw&feature=inbox
gahhhh, kills me ALL THE TIME!! Male idols are wary and faux disgusted (which annoys me SOO) of Jung Juri (she gets all handsy when dancing w/ other idols) and seeing GD being soo respectful to her which in turn makes her shy is so heartwarming!! *fans self*
Also, watch TOP in this one. Disclaimer: Do NOT watch this whilst drinking!!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1JE3POUOz0
omg! thanks for those!
BigBang members all all very sexy and chrismatic.
Ok – that GD and Seungri clip was adorable. My cynical brain tells me that these kids are brought up in an actual PR factory and that nothing we see should be taken as representative of themselves…but I can’t help hoping that they really are that adorable and funny and charismatic in relief. Now off to watch Mr. Hot But Really Not, TOP.
The thing w/ Big Bang is that save for Daesung none of them have been regulars on variety shows. It’s a good PR move by YG as he knows that over-exposure will lead to boredom down the road for his idols. Also, their humor is not the typical gag humor that Koreans love. I definitely watched their MVs and I thought ohh GD n TOP are super cocky n swagalicious!! But, this could not be farther from the truth. Their all dorks, kinda spacey (esp TOP), and the bromance is genuine as opposed to for fanservice. Seungri has this reputation of being the naughty maknae who always tells on his hyungs. Cuz of this both YG n his hyungs are always concerned abt his whereabouts and his tendency to let in on their secrets. Tae, TOP, and GD are kinda quiet guys who try not to be the attention of the crowd. Dae is just a pleasure to watch on these shows. He was giving his BB mates a quick rundown on Variety 101 on their recent stint on Running Man!! HA!!
Ok. First off: above ‘relief’ should be ‘real life’.
Second: That boy cannot dance. Thank God he knows it and pokes fun. That clip just PROVES my ‘Mr. Hot but Not’ nickname. Is he Dr Jekyll and Mr. Hyde? How do you get to be the sexy guy in Turn It Up AND the dork in every BTS/variety show/skit ever made?
My mouth was literally hanging open b/w laughing and being in disbelief when i watched their cover of 2Ne1′s “I am the best”. All that feeling himself up and touching his behind at the end was hilarious. Such a good sport tho. Actually on the side panel you should watch fancams that are focused on a single member. Dae at one pt is pulling at his virtual bra?, Seungri trying soo hard but failing adorably, and TOP —> It’s a bird?! Oh wait, it’s TOP!! The less said the better!! bahaha. Infact, in the GD fancam you’ll see that he laughs when TOP’s performing his bit @ the beginning. GD is the only one whilst doing CL’s bit retained some of the swag despite doing those feminine moves!! This vid is an instant pick me up. heh
Hello, happy Friday everyone!
I’ve not been doing *that* much drama watching recently… Just been watching Shut Up and Dream High 2. Shut Up is brilliant as always. Only two more eps left though which is really sad – what am I up posed to obsess over now?!

With that being said
So I have been watching K drama for four years now and I picked up on some little cultural aspects.
Like pricking your finger for indigestion.
Now I don’t assume everyone in Korea goes around pricking finger but I find Midwives tales or home remedies from other cultures very interesting especially if there is a story or reason behind it.
My family is from West Africa a little country called Liberia but I lived here in the US my whole life so, Here are a few midwives tales that my grandma and aunt have told me.
1. If your baby is crying put a piece of thread or yarn on the baby’s head I have no clue what its suppose to do. My aunt said she did it to my cousin when he was a baby and it worked.
2. If your right eye jumps (the muscle in the eye twitches) someone’s talking and or gossiping about you.
3. If your hands are itching that means your going get some money soon.
Anyway I wanted to do a little cultural exchange anyone else know any home remedies or midwives tales from their culture.
Welcome!
It is interesting that my Irish gramma told me
3. If your hands are itching that means your going get some money soon.
If we all think that, it MUST be true!
I mean I wonder who the first person that started saying that or maybe since money is dirty your hands itches from the germs you never where your money has been. LOL
Really? Cause my hands itch sometimes, and I haven’t had a windfall come my way yet. I guess there’s a lot of ambiguity in the definition of “soon”
Try some aloe, Sethe – LOL.
I think next time my palm feels itchy I’ll get a couple of Lottery tickets.
Yeah, it’s probably just dry skin (I’d be ashamed for anyone to see the condition of my elbows
), but maybe I should kinda, you know, stick a limb out (what the devil is that expression that I’m blanking out on?) and go play some blackjack next time I’ve got itchy hands.
Sethe, my poor confused metaphor maker -
Stick your NECK out
Go out on a LIMB
My favorite wrong metaphor was when female colleague was at a big staff meeting trying to get us all hepped up for a big sales goal. She said, “We need to put our balls on the table this quarter.” We reacted with stunned silence as we visualezed THAT, then looked at each other giggling, but nobody corrected her.
She had combined “put our cards on the table” and what our VP said — that we needed to go “Balls out.” (I am not sure where that is from. I assume some sport reference?)
After about 10 years, I still make fun of her.
@ Jomo
Thanks for giving me the correct metaphor
Don’t know why I was just completely blanking out.
“Balls on the table…” Love it! (Anything to do with “balls” is funny for some reason, right?)
I really, really don’t want to proselytize here, but the most recent Stephen Colbert show addresses exactly what Jomo is talking about here … if it FEELS right, it must be true. Anyone who’s interested could check it out
Hey, they say that in my country (Trinidad) as well. As a matter of fact, whenever my hands starts itching and I am shopping with my best friend, she makes me buy her lotto tickets. She swears that she wins everytime.
“If your hands are itching that means your going get some money soon.”
funny, my culture (malays in malaysia) uses that kind of saying too. the world really is small. =)
yes, my condolences to yoochun and his family.Hope the brothers are doing okay.
I heard on soompi that Jaejoong got iv drip. So sad…why bad things always happening to JYJ? they are so loveable! fan needs to be fan, not fanatic–pathetic, makes me mad! arrgh!
anyhow….
pricking ur finger, yup… we do that too! ^^
if ur ear is itching, someone’s talking about u.
bottom of ur foot itches,u’ll hear someone u know or close to u pass away.
If you get a headache, get a cup of water and swirl it clockwise a few times and drink it.
Don’t point at the moon, get ur ear cut.
If a wild bird flies into your house it means someone will die.
Sorry ’bout that, couldn’t think of anything else.
any kind of wild bird? I hope no one has this happen to them!
okay, my ear’s itching. LOL dang!
Well when I was younger and lived bird/moth/bath did fly in our house. It was dark in the house cause we were watching a movie I turned I see something flapping out of nowhere. It was all the kids so we start screaming run up the stairs everyone tripping and falling over each. We all go into separate rooms scared. But then a week later My mom is gathering laundry in the room and it flys out the laundry bag and out the window. So Thank You Jesus and good riddance – bird/moth/bat.
Ack…I had a bird in my fireplace about two months ago. There was a death in my family. That’s kind of creepy
In my family, if my grandmother dreams of fish someone in the family will become pregnant. It never fails. All the women in our family quiver in fear when she starts talking up her fish dreams.
Dreams of fish. Mom my told me that her grandmother had a dream about fish as well as I was making my way to the world.
Ive heard this one alot
My mum said if you dream of snakes, that means you’re getting married soon.
really ricky!???
I heard that if u dream of snake, the baby’s going to be a boy….
but that must have been a lie cuz i’ve dreamed of lots of snake many time before.. and I’m not prego or married. lmao
waaaaait…. altho… some close to me have gotten married and others have baby boys now that i think about it. o_0
LOL… to quote another great MST3K line: Watch Out For Snakes!!
It’s mostly true in our culture. I never dream of snakes so I’m still safe.
Aww, c’mon!
Everyone knows that if you dream about snakes, you
just want sex.
Wait… if you’re a FEMALE dreaming about snakes, I mean.
Otherwise, if a guy is having a snake dream, well, that’s just awkward….
LOL
We get the symbology, Cynthia.
Funny story, speaking of itches:
My friend and I had taken our 11-year-old daughters out for lunch after a basketball game one Saturday. My friend’s daughter began to rub her chest, and mentioned that ‘they’ were itchy. So her mom explained that she was probably growing, and she seemed to accept that. But my daughter immediately looked very distressed and said quite sadly that she guessed it wasn’t good news if her butt itched, in that case…
We SPEWED coke across the table, the other mom and I. We STILL laugh about it.
HAHAHAHA I think I just woke up the house Unni!
Bwahahahahaha!
THAT was a funny story, JoAnne
. Made me feel bad for your daughter though, poor child. I hope she feels better it about it now and I hope she won’t get any complexes about her body growing (such as gaining a little weight etc…).
She’s a gorgeous woman now, Ivoire, but doesn’t see herself that way – maybe she does more now that she has taken control of her looks instead of lamenting that she’s not the twig thin blonde beauty all her friends were in middle school/high school, though.
She is tall, her natural hair color is auburn (it’s often something else, though – I think TOP’s latest color might be a future pick) and she has freckles, but she also has a more olive complexion and very dark eyes, so the coloring is unique. She also developed curves pretty early – thank her Italian/Mexican heritage for that, LOL but you know, so many girls go through that now.
These days she dresses to flatter those curves rather than hide them, her head is shaved (hair is about 1/8 inch long), she has some tattoos and a few piercings. Her make up is always flawless, her smile is wide, her laugh is infectious – people literally stop her in the street to say how pretty she is. And she is doing it her own way, so she is more comfortable about it.
The only part none of us can ever figure out is…she regularly reinvents her look and it’s often something most people wouldn’t be brave enough to try…but her natural personality is a bit retiring unless she’s only with people she knows well, and so these dramatic looks that garner her attention can be a bit at odds with her wish to not be actually singled out for attention. I guess she doesn’t mind if you look at her, but she doesn’t really want you to comment on it.
You know how you sometimes get a little bump thing on your tongue (at least I do) that kind of hurts….sort of like a pimple…my mom said that if you got that, it meant you’d been telling lies. Even now, if I get one of those, I think about it.
If your ears are ringing, someone is talking about you.
My gramma used to tell us if we were sewing or knitting on sunday, that in heaven we’d have to pick it out with our nose, lol. I usually tried not to laugh until she left the room. I believe in honoring Sunday, but that seems extreme…
When my “Wise Sister” (i have three sisters: Wise Sister, Engineer Sister and Dramaqueen) was pregnant, my gramma told her not to raise her arms over her head, or it’d wrap the umbilical cord around the baby’s neck. There was something else too….can’t remember…..but Gramma was living with her through most of that pregnancy and she about drove her nuts with assorted things.
That Gramma was where we got most of those kinds of things….my other grandmother was very practical and didn’t believe any of that “nonsense” as she called it.
I’m a practical person and don’t really believe in some of those things until it happened to me… that’s when I believe in it.
so basically, if I don’t see it, I don’t believe (most time anyway). ^^
Well what I’ve noticed so far is that a lot of these midwives tales have to do with our senses hearing, feeling, seeing. Some add to fear, other give tips. Great keep them coming.
Heh – when I was a kid, if one of our parents thought we were lying, they’d tell us to stick out our tongues. If there was a black line running down it, we were guilty. Of course, only a parent could see the ‘line’ – no one else.
Genius, huh? I used it on my own kid until he wised up and refused to open his mouth, just compounding his problem.
They always get the best of the parents, somehow.
I have one on my tongue now…since yesterday. And I haven’t forgotten about your song. I think I’m going to change plans a little. Me and Ricky were talking…
Talking about my song?
And what did we talk about?
Some of the stuff my grandmother says:
Don’t play hide and seek at night, ghosts will hide you.
If one of your eyelashes falls, someone is missing you.
Fallen lashes should be placed on your head so that you won’t be bald when you’re old.
If you sneeze, someone is talking about you.
You shouldn’t sing while you’re eating otherwise you’ll get married to a much older person.
Girls shouldn’t sit on staircases, you’ll be a spinster.
Boys shouldn’t eat food placed on a lid, you’ll get married to someone with kids.
And many many more!
Oh wow! but so many girls have sat on staircases. LOL
And I’m guilty of random singing when I eat!
I’m destined to have my own noona love story. LOL
lmao! wowowoow! We’ll just have to wait and see. If u do ricky, let us know.
another:
u aren’t suppose to sing at night, the ghost will hear you and follow you home!!! 0_0
I’ve heard tales of this being true…….so I’m inclined not to do that.
My mom always say never blow a whistle at night. Ghosts will follow you home.
Kind of tricky: So if I want to have my very own ghost, I have to play hide and seek while singing and whistling…
@ricky -
That is the scariest thing I have ever heard.
If someone told me that as a kid, I would be looking over my shoulder constantly.
I can barely be myself downstairs by myself in my own house because I start to hear and see things. Especially hear.
Oy!
Jomo,
Are you saying that you have the ‘eye’? The ability to ‘sense’ perhaps?
Yes, it is scary.
shukmeister: errrr… i hope u are just joking…
cuz, dang, I can’t even think about it. LOL creeepy u know.
@ CV
LOL – I just think that if I was in a graveyard at night, alternating between yelling “Come out come out, where ever you are”, whistling “Bridge Over the River Kwai”, and singing Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition”, I’m pretty sure every ghost would shed ectoplasm to get away from me.
Just sayin’
8-D
We used to play hide and seek at the City Cemetary at night. That could get kinda creepy…
Oooh true story!
Every time the night feels hot, I would observe my grandmother. She would go outside and hum or whistle a tune and a strong gust of wind would come. The tune is like a ghost’s laughter and it never really bothered me. Well until one day, I decided to try it out while I was sitting in the park with my friends. One complained that the night feels hot, so I said my grandma used to hum this tune on nights like this to call the wind. I started humming and then all of a sudden the trees began to shake and a strong breeze hit us.
My friends never looked at me the same way again. And I never tried humming that tune again.
That would give me the creeps. Even more than hiding behind a tombstone….
I’d not be humming it again, either!
Ricky: and that is why, the og’s warn us not to sing/whistle at night.
Night time seem to be the time for ghost to come out. yikes! yea… definitely creepy.
And I’ve never gone to a cemetary at night and I don’t plane to anytime at all. 0_0
Why are old people always try to scare us youngins. But if they really believed this stuff life must have been hard trying to follow all these rules. LOL.
You shouldn’t sing while you’re eating otherwise you’ll get married to a much older person.
Hey older people are well established. And a study was done that says if your father is older the D.N.A makes live longer.
LOL yea… right? I think there is always some truth to it or else it wouldn’t be been told. perhaps kind of like some sort of warning to the younger generation?
EXACTLY!
I think it’s mostly done to keep kids from behaving badly.
It doesn’t work.
LOL
True, it doesn’t always work but I have to say, for some: there must be some truth to it!
For us, if an eyelash falls out you have to hold it on your finger, make a wish, and blow it into the air.
That’s a waste of a perfectly good thatch of hair on your head! Hehe
LOL, but I like JoAnne’s visualization better.
She gives me some of the best ideas.
Dude, that staircase thing doesn’t work. hehe
My mom and grandma used to say various weird stuff like:
- If you (a girl) sing at the supper table, you’ll marry an old man.
- If you comb your hair at night, that means you want your mother to die. (Totally crazy!)
- If you rest your head on your palm, that means your lazy as hell. haha…
- If the top of your ears lines up straight with your eyebrows, that means your smart.
- If the head line and heart line on your palm are one (a simian line), that means you’re crazy. Apparently there’s some truth to this. I read that supposedly many serial killers have a simian line on at least one palm. Strange, huh?
- If you walk backwards you’re imitating the devil…
…and many more!
I had to take everything they said with a grain of salt.
Ah – that resting head on palm thing is true. Though…it doesn’t take much to be lazy.
And then throw that grain of salt over your left shoulder to ward off the evil spirits!!
Outside of most of these, the only one I subscribe totally to is “Sing before breakfast; cry after dinner.” Damned if that doesn’t happen to me each and every time, so I’ve stopped my morning warbling in the shower until after my bowl of Wheaties. Or is it because my upstairs neighbor gets annoyed and bangs on her floor to make me stop? Darn music haters!!
ricky :
“Girls shouldn’t sit on staircases, you’ll be a spinster.” or girls shoudlnt sit at the front door. spinsterdom awaits.
and girls shouldnt sing while cooking in the kitchen. they’ll end up marrying a way much older man.
i just think all these stuff said just so that we kids/youngsters would behave. ahahah
Hello Licia, welcome!
At the OT we love to share experiences, point of views and funny anecdotes.
Well I am inspired now,so heres are a few I came up with.
The following OT/Asian Drama Addicts tales and remedies are completely true.
1.If your to stressed out to watch the next scene or episode in a drama (which is Shut Up: Flower Boy Band for me) go in the closet turn clockwise and say: Theres no word like OPPA, Theres no word like OPPA, while hitting your heals together and then hop on your right foot out of the closet.
2. If you are currently have or will have an impending drama with-drawl eat a snickers and look at snapshots from past episodes
It will calm your nerves. (works every time).
3.If your eyeballs are tired from watching a boring drama or scene but the completeist nature in you says you must finish it though, its dragging on with all the birth secrets and crazy 2nd leads. Eat ramen, if its over dramatic then add an egg and green onions.
(Your going to make it don’t worry )
Not only does it taste good but the everything is looks when you eat ramen.
4. If your marathoning a drama and your on the 5th hour by all means continue on. You must finish the show this will give you great hair however you will get bags under your eyes and may snap at someone for interrupting you.
5. If your day was not that great and you need a quick boast in energy look at pics of Park Shi Hoo
1 bad day + PSH pics= a rush of 3 energy drinks. (You can be so much more productive).
( my personal preference but you can use anyone from Kdrama that you like but I highly recommend him:)
Does anyone else know of these ancient teachings/remedies the has been passed on from one OT generation to the next. LOL
You forgot the tongue-to-nose-to-tongue touch whenever you have backache due to excessive drama-watching.
Exactly what does that tongue-to-nose-to tongue thing mean? I have seen it done in kdramas.
yeah this is the one I forgot what is it suppose to do.
But then I can’t see the screen…
Uh, my tongue doesn’t even reach the NEIGHBORHOOD of my nose.
It’s when you drink something too hot, burning your mouth. Then they do that.
What Cynthia said. I think it’s to deal with pain.
@ JoAnne, use your fingertips, not your tongue.
My tongue is short too btw
This is awesome, lol.
LOL
So here’s some more that I came up with.
The following OT/Asian Drama Addicts tales and remedies are completely true.
1.If your hair itches on the day of or while watching the first episode of a drama you have not seen before
your going to have 2nd male lead syndrome.
2.If you go to sleep on the right side of the bed at 9 o clock subs will be completed sooner.
(Timing is the key here)
3.If your fan girl /boy scream is not loud enough you lose 1 eyebrow.
4.When you dream of rabbits it means there will be plot holes.
5. Don’t talk bad about your friends favorite drama or your new favorite drama will have rushed a ending.
6. If you see a blue bird it means the drama is going to start being a bad melo-drama.
7. If your ears itch at night it means the OST is really good.
LOL
I like #4 and #7.
Haha I second #7.
If you dream of rabbits, MadDino will come and steal them for her army.
BTW, Licia, I will check out your friend’s contest entrance, and I’ll try to pass the info on to all the gyopos I know. Thanks for the info!
thanks
Ok, I remembered wrong 1. the thread on the head is for hiccups
I have some:
1. If somebody passed away on Saturday and fox rain happened (i don’t know what else to called it so i’m using my girlfriend of gumiho terms; its when suddenly raining lightly and sun is shining), then someone close to him/her will passed away the next Tuesday.
2. Girl not allowed to sit at the door. wont get married.
3. if your upper left eyes twitches, something good will happened to you.
it mostly myths, there’s a lot of them and i couldn’t remember because mostly i just ignore them.
For us, if your (I don’t remember left or right) eye twitches, something very bad is going to happen.
BTW where are you from nuri, if you don’t mind me asking?
hi ricky! im from Indonesia, and nope, i don’t mind at all.
actually if its right eyes, its something bad. but i don’t want to believe anything bad so i pretend that myth doesn’t exist. hehehe
Ahh, so am I correct when I assume that your name is taken from a particular beautiful bird?
There was one time when my right eye twitched almost non-stop for a day. I got so scared but nothing happened.
yes you are correct sir! kekeke
what time your place right now?
it happens a lot to me.. but sometimes when my right eyes twitches something good happened to me so i kinda don’t believe it anymore (yes, i used to believe them)
It’s almost 2am.
She’s awesome!
And I got some tales.
My G-ma is a Russian Jew so shes got a bunch of stuff.
1. Never talk bad about a pregnant woman
2. Don’t give the shoes of the dead away
3. If you sneeze someone is talking about you
4. Never let an evil eye near your children
5. Knock on wood/spit to get rid of a ken ayina hora (jinx)
Oh well I have one that kinda goes with your number
Don’t talk bad about someone else baby or your baby will be ugly.
here another Who ever you mad at or hate when your pregnant your baby will look like them.
Haha.
Lmao. Oh goodness. I hope that’s not true!
Those sound like things my hispanic husband’s aunt told me. Also, if you admire something (anything, but especially a baby) too much, you must touch it so that it’s good, not bad. Because wanting something too much that doesn’t belong to you isn’t right. That’s the gist of it anyway…it was only partially in English.
Oh and the egg thing! Ojo! If a baby cries you have to rub a cold egg from the fridge on it. Arms, legs, body, everywhere. Then you put the egg in a glass of water. If the egg sinks, someone gave the baby the evil eye. And if there’s bubbles in the water, however many bubbles is how many times, I think.
Anyway…if I see a baby I always want to touch it anyway – so strangers, keep your babies away. I will be looking, and wanting to sneak a kiss, but I am well brought up so I won’t approach you and scare you.
If everyone has been voting for Allysse in the Big Band cover contest THANK You, because she moved from third page to the second page. If votes keep coming in she moves to the 1st page.
Here is the new voting link to 2nd page. Hers is called SassyEnt

I may have to provide a link 1 one more time if she moves to 1st page YAY.
Good luck to ur friend! ^^
joon achim tadeul!
I’m slightly hitting and running too! I’m going to watch drama but I wanted to ask for your help and say a few words about my recent drama watching. I hope you all had a good a drama week. Don’t feel too badly, new dramas will start soon and there are a gazillion you haven’t seen and might like.
I’m watching once upon a time in saengchori, liking it a lot and I noticed it was very high kick-y ( it’s the same writer) and the ost is great but I wasn’t able to find it. Can any useful type dramabeaners help with that? I think I heard some zitten ( I only know 2 of their songs) but it did sound like them. I finished Insoon is pretty last weekend I liked most of it and I would recommend it. The couple theme song onjae kaji nan by chae dong ha was perfect but I had to throw it away when I saw he had recently died the song became even sadder. I haven’t looked at the lyrics or my dictionary but I think the first line goes something like “until when will I remember”. Really sad considering the singer.
I’m not learned on the saints but I have a vague idea about saint patrick, I think he was alright so I’ll give you good greeting in his name. See you in a few hours!
Bunny, I’m assuming the spanish wine cure you from the cold, since your not talking bout it
I’m glad your enjoying Once Upon a Time in Saeng Chori. I love that drama. The mix comedy and mystery. How ridiculous its characters are. By the way, have you seen the episode with the secret garden parody. Yoon Shi-yoon is great there
yes, that wine is awesome! I really loved the choi daniel cameo. I’m just busting out laughing all the time one of my favorites in the first episode was the simple “kopi, kopi” ( coffee, nosebleed) gag and then the one I was recently cracking up about is the ridiculous “mystery writer” who I think is not quite who he seems. I also really love the irony of the maths genius losing all comprehension or concept of maths.
This show is so underrated, more people should watch it. But then again, it’s not your every day drama.
Well the writer is the police officer who is there investigating the murder.
The plot keeps you always guessing who could be the murderer almost until the very end, and that’s genius. And because almost all characters are so lovable, you don’t want any of them to be the bad guy. All the jokes, and the warmth of those employees sent to work in the middle of nowhere… I love the drama
I think I know who it is and I hate that it’s him! I hope I’m wrong I really like him, except for na young he’s my favorite character. I saw the young actress playing na young in a really heart breaking drama special Last Flashman last year. I miss kbs.
You’ll probably be wrong. You’ll see
That’s what I love about this drama. It’s like Unstoppable High Kick, they made us think the killer was one, when it was something we could even imagine.
You are thinking is Ji-min, aren’t you?
A SeGa parody with Yoon Shi yoon?? You’re kidding?
I’m dead…WHERE?
In episode 13 of Once Upon a time in Saeng Chori
Thanks! I take note of that one. I’m already laughing, just imagining the situations. Some drama characters just haunt you forever, and now they team up… OMG, i won’t complain!
Hahaha me too. SG parodies are the BEST. It will never end. I just added this to my list, unni.
Happy OT thread everyone!! Hope you have a good week!
I’ve been reading more recently than watching dramas (thanks to Rickie Oppa for mentioning Divergent! It was brilliant
) but am definately enjoying Shut Up <3 And am (slowly) suffering through Dream High 2…
Love xxx
I haven’t seen that one – what’s it about?
Divergent is a dystopian teenage novel (my favourite kind!) about a society where people are split into different fractions as a teenager. These fractions all value a different personality trait (selflessness, bravery, honesty etc). The main Charector is rare in that she fits into more than one.
Anyway… it’s really good!
My daughter in law told us about that one…she’s big into Young Adult fiction, but we haven’t read it yet. I’ll have to tell my daughter about it.
That’s because some young adult fiction is amazing <3 The quality has gone up exponencially in the past few years!!
Leaf, are you waiting impatiently for Break My Heart 1000 Times?
I am hoping to have lunch with Dan and my old boss soon – I can’t wait to tell him I met a young fan – on a forum for Korean drama, of all places.
Definately!! But it’s coming out October… that’s ages away!! And I really really want a new Generation Dead novel… I need to find out what happens to Karen!!
And ha that’s awesome!!! Tell him I loved his books and convinced the Librarian to put them in prime position!! Also he needs to come to the UK!! Particularly somewhere where I can get too
And me being a K drama addict as well just proves my good taste
Ah, the books by Veronica Roth. I’ve got Divergent for Kindle, but I haven’t had time to read it yet.
You should do!! It is really worth it! I can’t wait till the second one comes out!
Another good one is Matched which I thought would merely be ok from the blurb (sounded kinda ordinary) but actually turned out to be excellent and am looking forward to reading the next one
My daughter loved Matched….seems she’s read the next one, too….is the sequel out yet? I have a hard time keeping up with her, she reads a LOT and I never seem to have time. I started tackling my stack of books to read when i got sick, and I’ve managed to finish about a half a dozen of them. If I ever get to the bottom, I have a list of her books I wanna read: Laviathan, Matched…can’t remember the rest.
Have you read the “Uglies” series. We really liked those, read the Uglies and Pretties out loud together on a family vacation. We read all three Hunger Games books, too and are anxious to see the movie.
I believe the sequel is out now. I need to order it from the library! It is Divergent which the sequel is coming out soon and I need to get. (it’s called insurgent and is going to be great!)
I also can’t wait for the Hunger Games film and am trying to get someone to go to it with! I read a review today and they said it was amazing <3
I am currently reading and almost finished Uglies at the moment and am finding it good but… dated? I know… but it is a whole 6 years old after all
That's really good you try and read what your daughter is! My Mum never would because she always thinks what I read is too depressing lol…
And I used to read a lot (I was always the bookworm) but stopped a while ago. I think I was feeling better recently though and a few weeks ago I started reading again and have been devouring books! They're great!
I’ve always loved to read. When I was 11 or 12 I turned the bathtub on to fill up, then sat on the counter with a book to wait for it. I got engrossed, and it overflowed and flooded the bathroom. BOY was I in trouble for that one…. When my daughter was younger (say 9 to about 12) I read everything before I let her read it. She reads on a high level for her age, and always has, but some books on her level deal with social issues that a 9 year old just isn’t mature enough to deal with. But, about the time she hit 12, I just couldn’t keep up with her anymore. Fortunately, my DIL reads a lot, so she gave us great suggestions. Now that she’s 15, I don’t worry about it as much.
My Mum always let me pick what I thought was ok. I never had a problem with anything though fortunately because I’m not easily affected by anything…
It’s good if you have people to recommend books to you! No one I knew really reads a lot so I never really had that. ^sigh^
There was a segment on The Today Show this morning about the Hunger Games. It sounds interesting but I know nothing about it, other than it involves snacks and hunting? Really?
I just read the first book and LOVED it. I was on the fence until the very end of Part I, when they interview the tributes and Peeta says what he says. Between that and the final bits with Rue, I was a goner.
I borrowed Book I, but am going to buy the trilogy tomorrow.
and based on reviews, will own the movie as well.
Cynthia – Hunger Games world is a dystopia society where oppressed and conquered areas of a post-apocalyptic America have to send children to fight to the death once a year to the centralized government.
I looked at it as Stephen King’s “The Running Man”, but with youngsters.
It’s loosely based on a future version of Rome – Bread and Circuses etc.
It definately worth reading and the film will be excellent <3
I got the Hunger Games Trilogy last Christmas and I still have not read it. I am on the fence about it. One of these days I will read it. I hope.
Kewbie it’s a fast read – I began Book 1 in the evening (read for about 20 minutes before falling asleep) and finished it the next day – and really, honestly, it’s not like I sat there all day, either. I spent 3.5 hours driving, we went out to lunch, I watched some KDrama…
YAY! Really glad that you decided to read it!
I’ve been passing my copy around to my friends, asking them to read it.
So are you an Amity, Dauntless, Erudite, Candour or Abnegation?
hmm… well I’m quite easily swayed so naturally I think I am divergent lol… ^sigh^
But I’m not nice or selfless so I couldn’t be Abnegation or Amity.
I am brave (sometimes) but hate most pysical activity and am small and weak and would never pick Dauntless cause I think they’re insane.
I like knowledge and learning but hate studying so I would never be erudite (although I was a super hard worker and studier when I was little so maybe I’d be more like that if things were different).
And while I can be brutally honest much of the time I lie as much if not more so I would never never be Candour.
Guess that makes me factionless right? Lol…
Harry Potter is so much easier, I’m definately a Gryffindor in that (Pottermore placed me there, I wanted to be a Ravenclaw but then realised that was never gonna happen ^sigh^)
What about you? What faction do you think you’d choose?
I can lie and manipulate people easily so I’m no Candour.
I’m a scaredy-cat, so bye-bye Dauntless.
I like knowledge, but like you, I dread studying. *kicks out Erudite*
I’m quite vain & I don’t think I could live without any mirrors, so Abnegation is out.
I guess I’m Amity but I don’t think it fits me like a glove.
I’m factionless like you. Or maybe we’re Divergents. Or Detergents.
Can’t we be Addicts instead?
We should create a new faction! I’ve personally always believed that the world would be a better place if everyone watched Korean Dramas and even more importantly read Fruits Baskets. So maybe that should be the qualities we try and promote?
And I just remembered Dauntless fashion… maybe I will have to pick that after all…
Wait… I’d die… hmm… this is tricky…
Hence a new faction is necessary for people like us!
As long as it has Dauntless fashion!!! But maybe without so many tattoos or piercings…
Loved Fruits Baskets! Even clueless ditzes and angry young men can find love!
How can one not love Fruits Baket???? <3
And don't you agree the world would definately be a better place if everyone read it? It's so… optimistic about humans… ha
And their was a time of life when I definately wanted to be Tohru for everyone around me! I think I did actually become quite Tohrulike so it was a success! Hopefully I wasn't as ditzy as her…
I’ll have to read this, sounds fascinating.
I don’t like to lie outright, but I am guilty of NOT saying something if don’t feel like making waves or if I don’t want to hurt someone’s feelings. So, not really Candour.
I’m definitely a big chicken, so not Dauntless.
I love reading and learning about things, so maybe Erudite. As long as there is no pressure and I can go about it on my own. If I’m forced to study, it’s different.
Not even remotely vain anymore. I wear shoes that are comfortable, not stylish…mostly live in Birkenstocks and sneakers. I have to be nagged by my mom (who dislikes having a grey haired daughter) to color my hair, and I only wear makeup to go to church or on special occasions. I don’t mind dressing up occasionally….formal nights on the couple of cruises we’ve been on are fun…but I mostly live in jeans and hoodies. But, I think I would want a mirror to insure that I’ve not forgotten something important….pants, combing my hair, lol.
Think I need to know more about Amity….
Amity focuses on peace. They value interpersonal relationships — how people relate on an individual, personal level. And as supporters of “self-sufficiency” the Amity are in charge of agriculture. Little is known about Amity, as it was the least described in the book. They wear red and yellow. They are the only faction to focus on music and art. They value trust, forgiveness, kindness and involvement. Dislikes confrontation.
That sounds more like me. I like living in the country, and really like growing our own food. I’ve always been into music and art, started playing the piano when I was four. I really hate confrontation (hence the tendency to just not say anything instead of candour). I try to help people when I can, but I don’t feel like it’s from a sense of selflessness, more like I’m lucky/blessed to have the things I need, and feel, partly due to my religious upbringing that God mandates that I share. I do love the feeling of being able to help someone out, especially if it’s someone I love or have a high regard for.
Although, I have to say, we’ve helped out complete strangers….someone who contacted our Bishop….a couple of times and both times ended up with lifelong friends that I NOW love and have a high regard for. Only once so far has it backfired on us, and we didn’t lose anything material by it, and we choose to not associate with them anymore. But, I don’t hate them…..and I still kind of miss their kids.
I think I would be in the Erudite faction, then…because I like to study.
I just got Hunger Games as a belated birthday gift but haven’t started them yet because I’m reading a friends 200 page story…O_o
Good morning, beanies! Happy Friday and Happy St Pat’s Day. We had corned beef and potatoes last night to celebrate. Hubby loves it, I’m kind of “meh” about it. I’d rather celebrate Cinco de Mayo, lol….prefer a good tamale over corned beef any day.
We’re doing the “halfway house” thing again. Aquaintances that are waiting for a job offer out of state had to move from where they were, but don’t want to sign a lease until they hear back so they know if they’re staying or going. She’s from Armenia, a very sweet girl and he seems nice….he works a lot, weird hours, so I’ve only seen him a couple of times. No kids, so it’s still pretty quiet around here. I miss all my little buddies, I’ve only seen them a couple of times since my “house arrest” to get well. We’re trying to avoid catching any cold/flu germies and little people are the worst about that. Right, Cherkell?
Unfortunately, someone else streaming tv in the house has put a dent in my dramawatching. My retarded internet just doesn’t have the “guts” to keep two of us streaming at once. I managed to catch the latest of Shut Up and I swear that show has me in tears more than anything I’ve ever watched. But, I love it so far. Haven’t watched the end of Sun/Moon, but as much as I liked it the first half, it’s not that exciting now anyway. I tried to watch it last night, but I was so so sleepy I couldn’t stay awake. I’ll wait until my download site has a subbed version and download it in the middle of the night while everyone is asleep. I just watched Ep 11 of Operation Proposal, and while it’s pretty good, I’m starting to get tired of the “no matter what he does, he can’t win” scenario. Poor kid and he’s so cute.
Doctor says I’m healing very quickly, maybe only another two weeks. I’m grateful it isn’t as long as they originally said, but I’m starting to get cabin fever in a big way. I went to church last week, regardless, and was glad I did. And, I made hubby take me to the grocery store last night. Pretty sad when a trip to the grocery is the highlight of the week.
Well, time to get everyone up and on to the day, never fun, as the only morning person in this house is me, lol. My gr grandpa used to call at 5:30 in the morning on Saturday mornings “What’s everybody doing?” “Sleeping, grandpa, what do you think they’re doing?” “What? The day’s a-wastin’!”. lol. Who have thought I’d be the one up at 5:30 now? Except I like that I’m the only one up for a couple of hours, no phone calls, no cranky teenager. Can do/watch whatever I want. :0)
Have a great weekend, all….
OH….how could I forget. There was something exciting this week….
My daughter in law has been working on a novel for about a year now. She started sending query letters to agents a couple of months ago…..if you don’t know, that’s a letter with a really short synopsis of your story, asking if they are interested…. Anyway, after several rejections, which she and The Boy have made into some bizarre game…love those guys….she got a letter back from an agent who wants to read the entire manuscript! Of course, even if this agent takes it on, then the agent has to find a publisher, etc etc etc But, we’re seeing it as an important milestone.
Leaf’s post reminded me, cuz DIL writes YA fantasy stories and this is one with angels and demons and some other critters. She hasn’t let me read it yet, she’s still editing.
Good luck to her!!! I’ve heard how hard it is to get published!! But getting a agent is a massive achievement and a huge step forward!! Heck, even getting an agent interested enough to read the story is amazing <3
Hey, Shel!
You sound perkier this week, so you must be feeling better, no?
Hope you enjoyed your corned beef dinner. It’s way too salty a meat for me, so I don’t make it here at home but the hubby and son get to eat it their fill of it at the monthly Firehouse dinner. Win-win!
I don’t know about you, but I love going to grocery stores!
It’s so much fun to peruse all the items and read labels.
Yes, to waking up early on weekends. I do that, too!
It’s great that you’re healing very nicely as well
We stopped at the Asian market this week on the way home from the doctor…I need some sambal oolek for a Thai soup I was going to make….and we spent about an hour in there. I probably would have spent a bunch of money in there, but I’m only cooking a bit yet…it’s still hard to stand long enough to cook anything too complex.
The soup was awesome…I’d been craving Thai, so I’m glad we stopped.
Once you’re fully healed, you can try cooking all different kinds of Asian dishes.
Yeah, some of the Malaysian dishes I looked up online look really good. When hubby was “between wives”, he took a Pacific Rim cooking class at a cooking school up near San Francisco. He still makes some of the stuff, but it all requires ingredients that are a little tough to find. But this Asian market was pretty decent sized, I think I’m gonna dig out some of his recipes and try some. He said there were several Malaysian dishes, and that they all were really spicy, but he liked them.
Ahh, so he must have tried some Malay-style dishes.
Chinese Malaysians don’t really cook spicy food.
When I find them tomorrow, I’ll let you know what dishes are in there.
Nasi lemak!!
Oh, wait, that’s already been done….LOL
Glad to hear your healing faster than you were anticipating.
Shel,I’m so glad you’re recovering quickly, and it may sound funny but I actually like grocery shopping!
Hugs!
I like grocery shopping in interesting grocery stores. But, the neighborhood Safeway doesn’t qualify, lol.
Hiya shel! *waves* You’re sounding quite chipper, so I’m glad to hear that all is mending nicely. I thought about you cabin fever-wise, as I’m suffering through the same right now. Any project that I should be working on while under quarantine goes by the wayside, as I cannot put two brain cells together to concentrate at all. Good thing it’s clouding up again so I can justify curling up on the couch with a blankie. Today’s Dilbert cartoon is so timely, and really sums up my situation: http://tinyurl.com/7fhfjer. LOL!!
Also thought about you as I’m putting together a two-column shopping list for when I make my next visit to the Hankook Market in Sunnyvale. It’s sad when I even run out of gochujang, because I normally buy the big tubs so I don’t have to keep running to the market. If there’s anything you can’t find down by the Coast, lemme know!!
::sniff:: Ah, my own corned beef dinner is almost done baking. It’s my late father’s recipe… simmer first to get most of the greasy stuff out, and then finish in the oven with a brown sugar/yellow mustard glaze on top. NOM NOM NOM.
We have Hankook Market in Seaside, haven’t been in there yet and don’t know if it’s related to the one up there. We went to one of the Asian markets in Marina….they had Kdrama posters up all over the back wall, and the store’s signage is all in Korean. They have a pretty decent selection and so far I’ve been able to find whatever I’ve wanted. I’ve cooked a bit of Vietnamese, lots of Thai (my fave) Chinese, Japanese. But, I haven’t ventured into cooking Korean or Malaysian food yet. I almost bought some gochujang, but I decided to wait until I’m cooking more. The market is around the corner from the Sisterwives, so I’m there a lot when I’m not under house arrest, lol. Give me another couple of weeks and I’ll be ready to be in the kitchen more. I enjoy trying new stuff. Right now, our houseguests are cooking Armenian and it’s been fun to try new things and not have to do it myself, lol.
I’m on break right now from drama watching waiting for the Subbed Eps for Switch Girl, Hungry, Salamander Guru and Shut Up. Been watching a lot of films though I hope someone would be kind enough to sub Chilling Romance and I could not find Wandeuki with subs. Ahhhh the dilemma of a rabid J and K drama watcher. Promise myself that I would not start watching currently airing drama to spare myself the aggravation of waiting but maybe I’ll check out Roof Top Prince and King 2 Hearts see how that works out.
Hi. I think you can check darksmurfsub, they have both and I just watched chilling romance. It was cute and not at all creepy.
Oh. I think the name is spellbound in darksmurf.
I really want to watch that just to see Lee Min-ki.
I”m waitin for chilling romance to be subbed too! It looks good. Keeping my fingers cross that Hungry episode 8 will get subbed soon too! Getting interesting.
ups… are we not suppose to mention other site? i really didn’t know…
anyway, i just watched chilling romance and its cute and its lee minki and its cute.
You can mention any site you want to on OT.
but did you watch it….SUBBED?
We’ve been dying here waiting for it to show up somewhere, anywhere at all, with subs.
yes, since im not patient so i took it when it was 70% subbed. but pretty decent sub.
If you plan on live streaming the new shows, use ionairtv … it provides English close-captions and I am pretty sure that RTP and K2H will be captioned.
Ariel, it’s available streaming on Ionair.tv with English subs – it’s called Punch.
Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
It is a BIG deal in my town, not so much for me, but that is just because we are/were a blue collar town that loves beer!
I burned through all of Feast of the Gods last Monday when I was sick with this stupid cold that is not going away.
So much pretty on the screen! Seriously couldn’t tell you who looks the best:
Sung Yu Ri /Joo Sang Wook / Lee Sang Woo /Seo Hyun Jin
I really like the love square – at less than halfway there it really could go any way at all.
Pulling for LSW currently, although, JSW is a viable altnerative.
The soompi comments for FotG seem to lean towards LSW since we got to see him in a freaking speedo. JB and GF, can’t you do a drive by ABS “article” for FotG and post THAT screen cap? If it is OK with Mysthisthishti and your mad scientist, that is…)
LSW man is absolutely massive all over. Not in THT way, who while gorgeous, is too cool, as if his eyes keep us at a distance. LSW has an animalistic manly vibe, like he is ready to pounce at any moment. There were a couple shots of him fully dressed eating noodles that made me weak in the knees. They shot it from over his shoulder, and then profile, so we could feel the strength of his shoulders and neck. I get hot and bothered just thinking about it.
This show is similar to Gourmet in that we hear a lot about the importance of spreading Korean cuisine globally. We see lovely food being prepared and presented. They don’t get as foodie, though. We don’t hear how the wonderful details of the tastes and textures like we did in Gourmet.
I recommend it, but beware it is a melo, so there are twists and you have to suspend your disbelief at a couple situations, but that element adds a little frisson of excitement that surprised and pleased. Think Clark Kent/Superman.
Hope everyone has a nice this week!
The LSW speedo… That’s the best swimming pool scene i’ve ever seen. And the wet hair…
I didn’t see anything with him before, just Life is Beautiful. You see, i had that impression of innocence and purity. So i did my homework and found Searching for the Elephant on YT. And now i’m completely in shock (licking toes, really???). That man is the devil in disguise. Funny to see that in FOTG he plays along with the other “twisted mind” from TEN. And now, i want to save the poor girl: Does she know where she has landed? The den of the wolves.
LSW is an interesting actor to watch.
He does a good job with characters who need to hide their true feelings, but is irrestible when he gets to finally turn on the charm. OMG, I want him to cook ME coq au vin in a VAN!
I fell in love with him over the many episodes of LIB, in fact, my favorite sweet OTP of all time is Kyung-soo/Tae Sub.
I tried to get 18vs29 onto my laptop, but could not find anything that works on my Mac.
Btw, I haven’t seen SftE, but will ce soir. Merci!
Just to warn you. There is also some bloody disturbing scenes (like the end of 1st episode of TEN actually. See: Circle of life).
Thanks for the warning!
That is OK, I’ve gotten really good at distancing myself from what I see on film. “It’s not real. It’s not real. It’s not real.”
Guess I know what I’m starting this weekend.
The camera loves JSW with all its heart.
I started screen capping the scenes where his eyes looked beautiful and I had to stop. There were too many!
OK
THT in a diamond print ad campaign.
There is NOBODY better looking that HIM here:
In every shot, for crying out loud.
http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.265446980138275.86737.163257623690545&type=1
You’re welcome.
I don’t need diamonds these days thanks, but the man is as always on those pics. Attractive to say the least.
Those eyelashes kill me.
GUH
That’s the sound I make when Rain does the stomach role thing, or the hip thing from Hip Song…or says ‘I have a strong waist. I am lonely. Please help me.’ on Strong Heart.
I literally make that noise, involuntarily. Every time.
While there have been many times I have done that, the most memorable:
Watching Secret Garden in my two-butt wide chair.
My son, 11 at the time, was reading a book next to me.
When Joo Won gets up to give Key Lime the foam kiss, I GUHed really loud. He thought I hurt myself.
There is a kiss in Life is Beautiful between Kim Sang Joong and Jang Mi-hee that was unexpected and incredibly sensual, I GUH’d. I swear I can still feel it on my lips.
KSJ was one sexy ahjussi in that show. Holy canneoli!
Hi everyone!,
Am I the only one who’s been plodding through Dream High 2 even though it kind of sucks?? I feel bad I was hoping it wouldn’t but it just….does. Even the lovelines are confusing and sucky..*sigh* oh well.
Hope everyone has a good day!(i think thats the most i’ve ever typed here)
Nope, u aren’t the only one.
Dream high 2… first couple of episodes, dragging…but the last couple wasn’t too bad. at least the pace has picked up a little and the acting from all of the leads were actually good. Made me want to root for them now. We’ll see how the last two episodes will wrap things up.
i was looking forward to watching dream high 2 but the comments have made me think twice.. its, i’m sorry to ask…pathetic?
Let’s just say it’s not Dream High. LOL
The writing and storyline isn’t all that great.
Still with it… but I have no idea why… I think I’m using it as an excerise in how NOT to do a drama… ^sigh^
Still struggling through. It’s literally like a drug. It’s bad for me. I shouldn’t want it, but I do. I need to know how all of this foolishness will come to a close. I think I might actually be disappointed if the last two episodes are actually good. I want it to be a complete madhouse to the very end.
I’m with CruelSummer. I have to watch, because I need to know what happens. But the whole time it’s happening, I’m sitting there saying ‘WTF is happening? I don’t understand why he…wasn’t he just…but last time didn’t they…are they doing ANOTHER…oh I give the F up.’
I want to know these things: does Jin Woon Chicken Beak get to be happy? Does Nana finally convince her two boys they should really be dating each other? Does Principal Lee stop being an ass to his daughter?
I can’t give a fairy fart about the rest of it.
Actually, JB & GF did a really interesting DH2 discussion as part of the last Podcast.
I’m still watching it, mostly because I’ve given up any expectations of coherence from the Writer’s Room. The colors are pretty, the wardrobe is cute, the cast is shiny and the music is toe-tapping or ballard-ie.
I’ll be watching it soon, but I wanted to wait until KBS World started running it this week. Call me silly, but I like to watch the KBS1/2 offerings on my TV instead of streaming on my laptop. Saying that, I hold no high expectations for this one because none of the characters have grabbed my interest right off the bat like the ones did in DH1. Right now, it’s just fluffernutters to me…
Hey, people!
I forgot to mention that I got stuck in an elevator last week. It was probably the most traumatic 1 minute experience EVER in my life. Well, at least I discovered that when push comes to shove, I’m still calm and serene.
And anyways, Yoo In Na is getting a lead role!
OPPA!!!!
Wow… how drama like
I hope you don’t get stuck in any more lifts, particularly burning one!!
Have a good week!
I’m swearing off lifts for now. I’m slightly claustrophobic.
And taking the stairs is healthier
I”m a little claustrophobic myself. But, I can’t haul my out of shape, old, self up more than three flights of stairs, so if it’s more than that, I have to take the elevator.
We were on a cruise ship a few years ago, when hubby and I decided we would never take the elevator, in order to work off all the amazing food we were eating. We made it until the last day, we climbed up to the Lido deck for a late night dessert (9 floors above our cabin), waited around for his siblings we were supposed to meet….decided they weren’t coming….went down to the main deck 10 floors down….then ran into one of the sibs who was on his way up to meet us. The show they’d gone to had run over. We looked up the staircase, which we had also been up earlier in the day for lunch, and decided to take the elevator, lol.
LOL
I’ll see how long I can last before my feet start to kill me.
I was stuck in an elevator once and to my surprise, I wasn’t scared. :O
Well, my heart dropped when the elevator dropped a bit but I had to be the rational one because I was with 3 other girls and one of them was panicking. Thank goodness the power didn’t go off though.
Oooh….a dark elevator with three girls. How bad could it be? :0)
I seriously laughed when I think about the incident. I told my mom afterwards and the first thing she asked me was, “Did you have your own romantic drama scene in there?” HAHA
Was it the triplets?
And if it was the triplets did they call you Oppa?
Ricky: LOL what did u say to ur mom? No? Would make a good story!
The triplets? I wish.
If it was them, I’d be all Hyun-bin like and feign intense claustrophobia attack. Let’s see which triplet would resort to mouth-to-mouth resuscitation first.
Just remember what happened 9 months after the big U.S. East Coast Blackout of ’78.
Babies. Lots and lots of babies.
LOL Yeah.
My grandma always say couples with a lot of children have no TV. No TV, no entertainment. No entertainment, more children.
I should tell DIL that. They’re trying to start their family, but so far, no luck. And no money for the doctor bills to find out why. Although, after 8 years together, and six married, they are still honeymooners, so I’m sure lack of sex is not the issue, lol. She needs to sell this book so she has money to figure out why they don’t have babies. I’d donate the money if I had it, we want babies, too. So, everyone keep your fingers crossed. Otherwise, we gotta wait two and a half years until The Boy graduates from law school.
Ricky…this means you’re going to fall in love with Peter Ho and (eventually) live happily ever after.
Is he good looking? Does he have a mansion? Does he cook? Does he have any OCDs?
I’m extremely fickle
Which drama are you basing this theory on, JoAnne?
You’re forgetting what his Mother is like… very important factor as I’m sure you’re aware.
But still… how much money he has is still the most important thing!!!
Like my sister always say, when in doubt, choose the one with the thicker wallet. LOL
Such good advice!!! Now if only someone in my family had actually done that ^facepalm^
Good looking, yes. No mansion, but a kick ass house. I don’t remember him cooking…No OCDs but he was a STICKLER for doing your best in all things, and being someone who could be counted on. Sigh…he was the exact right combo of dreamy romance/stern taskmaster. My kryptonite.
Ring Ring Bell, of course.
You have a lot of kryptonites, you know that don’t you!
And she NOSE it, too!
Bwahahaha! You’re so punny, Shuk.
I like him IN SPITE OF his nose, dammit.
I believe the only thing I describe as my kryptonite is the romantic/taskmaster combo. There’s other stuff I LIKE…but that’s the thing that kills me.
Oh, bless you! Glad that you didn’t have a “Ju-Won” episode.
(whisks off thoughts of JB & GF’s phobia enumerations from head. argh. must. not. cave. in. to. urge. to. google. about. THAT. phobia.)
Getting stuck in an elevator isn’t a joyride – especially with what happened to me: in there with the garbage collection guys and their big, overflowing, green, rolling bin.
Happy Weekend, ((B))!
You mean trypophobia? Ewwww.. Those images are still stuck inn my head.
LOL at your experience! At least I was stuck with three sweet-smelling girls.
Haha, I have so far resisted googling those images…
But I watched that episode for my Boyfriend and even though it was raw I laughed so much!
Never google them! Even if you’re curious, just don’t!
I never knew so many people were trypophobic
Ooh … that is something that Shuk should put in her fanfic …
Hmm, well I could do a scene like Hana Yori Dango; Rickie on his back, head pillowed on a girl’s lap. Since it would be the office building, maybe the whole harem could be there: Alua, Jennifer, MJP25, they can all keep him company.
Maybe they can give him a sponge bath or something…
Sponge bath?? HAHAHAHAH
I appear in your fan fiction? Wow…
Sponge bath makes me think Bangkok Love Story. No harem and it’s BL, but it’s one intense scene (with fantastic skyline scenery).
I searched the video on YT, alua.
*speechless*
Wow. Just, WOW. O.O
That scene is definitely not suitable for underage people.
It’s not meant for underage people Ricky dear
The movie actually received some awards at international film festivals (smaller ones but not only LBGT ones). Apparently it moves away from stereotypical portrayal of gay characters in Thai films but it does fall into the ‘totally doomed love’ category.
I think I”m not old enough. :0)
@ Alua – Yes, you’re part of his official “harem” – the task force given to protect Malaysia from the forces of evil. You’re my translation expert in Mandarin and standard Chinese. Your boss is normally Raine, but you’ve been “lent” to Rickie (sic) just for this think tank.
Hello everyone!Happy OT.
I am super busy today so I can’t stay, but I’ll come back later.
Some of you may know that I’m into making videos. Here’s my latest video of some of our dear -um, Raine’s dear- Park Shi Hoo in Queen of reversals. Please check it out if you like:)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tkwRdJwJtrY&context=C45b41c2ADvjVQa1PpcFNw8ZOCe08MIhCFFpJ9tPDcdAF2yUkD0FE=
I watched it
Cute – he’s so irresistable! You’re convincing me to check out Queen of Reversals now…
Thanks for watching it Jules. The drama isn’t that great but Park Shi hoo is just so adorable in it.
He’s a big ol’ puppy. I actually enjoyed the drama, better on the latter half tho.
Bless you!!! Wow I somehow forgotten how freaking adorable he is in that Drama!! Its a def must watch for all PSH fans.
Sigh, I miss my true drama love!
Thanks for watching Lovebug:)
This reminds me I have to find time to finish this drama.
Raine will be thrilled when she sees it
Ahh,definitely finish it,it gets better in the end ( more Park Shi Hoo!) .
Raine has seen it before,I was too excited I posted it on her blog:p
Awwwwwww!Raine!:)
Happy Friday OTers!!!!
I finally got on the OP wagon, and I’m enjoying it a lot. I suppose it isn’t as frustrating if you watch several episodes at once
I probably think the story should go in a different direction, accepting the past and learning from your errors to improve your future. And I think that although, Bark-ho y Yi-seul love each other, they missed their chance when they were young, and Jin-won is better for Yi-seul’s carrier and life. But then again, I know there are many who won’t agree with me.
I LOVE OP!
It is my sentimental favorite.
I would be happy if she ends up with either men, but would be happier for BH if he could marry his love…
Well of course, since we’ve gone through all the pain with BH, who doesn’t want him to win. But in real life rarely we end up it our first love. We usually get over that accepting breakup if we got to date that person, or just remaining friends with him/her if we never dare to talk about our feelings and eventually finding a new love.
I love OP as well. Infact, that’s the only thing I’m watching now. I used to love MoonSun but the last 2 weeks I haven’t really been into it.
What episode of OP are you on now?
Uri Una brought it in ep 11, didn’t he?
Plus, he had a new haircut that made him look downright adult. The scene right before he drank the potion at his desk.
OMG! he did!
***Spoiler ep11***
I didn’t expect an 18 year old to kiss like that! My first thought (and this shows how ajhumma like I am) : where did he learn?
And then I remember that episode in Friends where Joey asks Ross to kiss him since he has difficulty looking natural kissing a guy onscreen and he needs practise.
And then I think. Oh for heavens sake! just enjoy the damn scene!
**SPOILERS EP 11**
I enjoyed the scene all 25 times I watched it!
I actually felt my stomach leap when he back hugged and said, “ILY.” I made some sort of noise, too, because my husband said “What now?”
EXACTLY!
How and where did he learn those skills? O.O
I guess all those years living at Sa Mo’s alongside Dong Soo taught him a thing or two…
Oh dear. I’m going to hell for that remark, ne?
Well, I have a time machine, see?
And I traveled in time to when I was 18, let’s call me jomo18, and somehow I majiked jomo18 over to Seoul in the present, and I took him aside and showed him a few things last week.
PS Over at Koala’s Playground, she reported it took six hours to film that scene.
@cherkell. I’ll be glad for the company.
@ Jomo
Six hours??? There must have been a lot of saliva involved in the shoot. I’m surprised their lips aren’t torn.
@Jomo. 6 hours of kissing?! I pity those kids.
Kissing in front of adults who go “Ok, more tongue now! NO! NO! Cut! Not that much tongue. Ok do it again. This time, some tongue but not that much. Yes, and look at her with more desire. No No… Not that much desire! just a little bit. Think CSW… and you’ll have it down pat!”
All those kiss scenes take a long time because they do so many angles.
I cannot think of a better way to spend 6 hours…
I’m on ep 8. I’ll probably get up to date this weekend
I haven’t started it yet,but I saw the kiss and hot damn!I’m going to watch it just for that kiss!:))
You have to wait 11 episodes for that one, but there are two others before that one.
Hi everyone! I was just wondering if anyone has checked out Can Love Become Money – with Han Ga In’s hubby and Uhm Ji Won in the leading roles? I can’t find it with english subs – does anyone know where I can?
Dramacrazy has raw 1 and 2 up.
And for some reason, ep 4 is on YouTube, but I can’t find the earlier ones.
I am chomping at the bit to see this one, too, but I am going to try to avoid spoilers and be patient.
Thanks, Jomo. I’m dying to see it as well
I hate knowing this drama exists! I saw a few seconds of the one episode on youtube and it looks interesting. I don’t mind watching a long series raw I think there are enough episodes for me to figure out what’s going on, but I don’t think I can with a shorter one. I need to learn chinese haru balli!
I had been away from kdramas for a while and want to make a comeback! Which is the best one (airing or just aired) right now?
My heart is with Fermentation Family and Salaryman.
100% in agreement here….those are my favorite two, also. Oh, and Shut Up! Flower Boy Band.
Which reminds me Sung Il Guk had triplets today!Well, his wife did,you know what I mean!!:)
Shut Up Flower Boy Band.
Depends on your taste. If you want funny in a really unconventional way, then that would be Salaryman.
If you want uncomplicated romance with food porn, then that would be Fermentation Family.
And if you want to remember your youth (depending on your age that is), then that would definitely be Shut Up.
Padam, Padam was also really good.
Also What’s Up.
Morning Everyone!
Still watching Shut Up, Dream High 2 and episodes of We Got Married. I’m actually afraid to watch the last two episodes of Shut Up. I’m being a real wuss about it. I really don’t want to see the boys cry. The recap was enough of a blow. I plan on getting a bottle of wine, as well as a box of tissue and battling it out this weekend.
Dream High 2 is just plain exhausting. I swear I would give it up, but it’s just so delightfully bad that I’m actually curious as to what brand of tomfoolery the writers will pull out of their arse week after week.
Question: What’s the deal with aegyo? It’s very rarely done well and overall I find it a bit creepy. Do people seriously do that on a regular basis? Seems like something better left for role playing…behind closed doors.
Why are people always being kidnapped in T-Dramas? It’s so annoying. It starts out as like the best drama ever. Great writing. Great OTP. Hot kisses and then out of friggin’ nowhere someone gets snatched up. There has to be a better way Taiwan. It’s the only time I ever wish for a terminal disease in a drama.
Does anyone have any rom/com drama suggestions? I’ve seen most of the popular dramas. I tried to start ‘Sweet Seoul’, ‘Last Scandal’ and ‘Operation Proposal’ but nothing really grabbed me. Someone mentioned T-Drama ‘Frog turned into a Prince’ (I know that’s not the right title). Is that any good?
Who are you watching on WGM?
After the first season, I tried to watch the second, but for some reason the subs stopped after a while. I guess those couples weren’t as popular and alot of the content was on megaupload. If you know where I can find it, let me know. I was only able to finish the Kangin couple.
From there I watched the Adam couple, Brave couple, and am currently watching Teukso and Woojung. That group dating episode (Teukso) started off cute, but the way they treated that girl pissed me off. I know it’s just a show, but that was really mean. I was trying to figure out why I couldn’t breeze through Woojung couple like the others. Love Jang Woo. I think I’m annoyed by Eunjung. The whole jealousy bit is old. Especially if after eight months the man has to practically beg for a kiss on the cheek.
Sorry…you didn’t ask for all this
I just get excited about my shows and have no one to complain to in real life.
Nope – no apologies. You’re preaching to the choir, here.
You should watch the Goguma Couple (Yonghwa from CN Blue and Seo-hyun from SNSD) and also the Khuntoria couple (Nickhyun from 2PM and Victoria from F(x)) – the eps and subs are complete, many of them at KShownow.net. Have you seen the Halloween Special where they’re all together (including the Adam couple)? Really funny, lots of laughs watching them go through the Haunted School on a timed Mission.
Forgot to add – we discussed Jang-woo on the new post where his being cast Kim Sun Ah was announced.
The thing you have to remember about WGM is that when the couples start to show the signs of real kissing, etc., it’s a sure-fire way for them to get bounced from the show. The PD’s don’t want to blur that line between make-believe and real. Then what happens is the couple ends due to ‘conflicting/busy’ schedule incompatibility with the WGM schedule. Yeah, right. Not. (Except for Yonghwa and Seohyun – they really did get crazy busy with group schedules.)
…WITH Kim Sun Ah…..
Sorry.
Loved the Halloween special! I actually love all the specials. They are so much fun.
I started on the ‘Sweet Potato’ couple. Still feeling them out a little bit. The girl is a little robot-ish right now. I know she’s young so I’m trying to give her the benefit of the doubt. Does she warm up a little?
I may give Khuntoria a try. Don’t know why they don’t interest me. I think the name skeeves me out a bit. Yes…at times I have the mentality of a 12 year old boy.
I suppose you’re right about the smooches. I get so invested that I forget that I’m watching a Korean variety show. But then I try to watch American shows and they’re constantly smooching which grosses me out, so I guess I just can’t win, lol.
*laughing hysterically*
I thought I WAS THE ONLY ONE
Keep watching Goguma – they really were one of the better couples, mostly because you could actually see Seo-hyun’s personality changing (for the better) throughout their relationship. Unless I’m mistaken, Seo-hyun was the youngest ever on WGM – and the most innocent/naive, by far. One of her first questions to Yonghwa was “What’s the difference between liking someone and loving them?” He bought her on book on dating.
Their filming was a few years ago, she has developed into a lovely woman and I’m convinced it was due, in large part, to her time on WGM with Yonghwa.
As for Khuntoria (okay, we’re ALL 12!), they were excellent because Nichkhun had a ‘thing’ for Victoria to begin with – and they really were a good fit for each other – plus they did a lot of different location shoots, etc., and that kept the interest level up. I really was sad to see them ‘killed’ off.
I finally looked up this Jang-woo guy and watched a little bit of him in Glory Jane/Man of Honor and so far I like him. He’s cute and all but he really reminds me of a younger version that Singaporean televangelist Joseph Prince. I have to get that comparison out of my head before I watch him get it on with Kim Sun-ah in May.
OMG, Kewbie! Now I can’t unsee! Way to ruin the hotness for me, lol. Now every time Jang Woo gets frisky, I’ll think about our Lord and Savior
Looks like this weekend will be devoted to Goguma and Khuntoria *snicker*
@Cruelsummer
Haha…sorry about that. It was just really bothering me when i first saw him. I was like…gosh who does that guy look like? Then I finally figured it out. Fortunately they don’t have the same voice, and Joseph Prince is at probably 20 years older than LJW so I think I can successfully think of him as an actor and not a preacher. As long as they don’t have the same hairstyle, I think we’re safe.
I feel like I’ve seen a very rewarding rom com recently but that is probably just the embers from my kim min joon love dying out.
I think you can look through the list of recaps on dramabeans and watch 1 episode of each. I liked most of sweet seoul’s beginning and the over all tone but the story does get a little strange.
How do you act cute well? You either act cute, or you don’t.
I think I just have an adversion to their interpretation of cute. Baby talk and child-like movements at a certain age are just bizarre. I think I can tolerate it better in moderation, with a little tongue and cheek. When it’s practiced and unnatural looking is when the creep factor comes in.
@Cruelsummer and bunny, the problem is the “act” word. One can either be cute or not. When you force your self use aegyo, it won’t come out natural and hence it wont be good.
You should visit mydramalist.com they have a lot of reviews by people who have watched the drama. They also have a lot of suggestions for what to watch.
Frog Turned to Prince was very popular, but it seems it got mixed reviews.
Have you seen “Material Queen”?. My favorite thing about this drama is the role reversal. The girl is the strong character and the guy is the poor, innocent one. Though this drama is not perfect, the main actress does such a great job, that it’s hard to stop watching. She is also extremely beautiful. It was hard to believe that this was her first drama. The cinematography, location shots in Paris, music and even clothes used are excellent and eye catching. IMO. I really enjoyed this Tdrama.
Thanks JadeL! I’ve been wanting to check out mydramalist, but I forgot about it until your reminder.
I didn’t try ‘Material Girls’ because the review that I read wasn’t favorable, but I do like Vaness, so I might do a one episode preview to get a feel for it.
Yes, mydramalist is great. I have discovered a lot dramas and movies because of them. I like that their lists and info includes Japanese and Taiwanese Dramas. It’s very comprehensive. I also like the, “if you liked this, then you may enjoy that” section.
Re. Material Girl. I really liked it. It was different from what I have seen so far. I did not find it boring. I really liked how the main girl is not the typical Asian Drama girl. She is vain, materialistic and does not care for love. I hope you enjoy the 1st episode and get to watch it, if it’s your cup of tea.
I liked it – it’s actually called “The Prince Who Turned Into a Frog” – I will warn you it’s the rich-cold-kid-getting-amnesia-and-turning-into-a-nice-poor-kid-before-getting-his-memory-back ploy.
I watched it for the lead actor, whom I first saw in “Angel Lover” and liked his acting skills, so I grabbed a couple more with him in it, the one above and “Bittersweet Life” which I haven’t watched yet.
For amnesia stories, I liked “Summer Desire” a lot better. Plus, as JoAnne would squeal, that one’s got Peter Ho.
Hi OT. So I marathons On Air this week, and it didn’t really grab me at the start but by episode 5 or so I was hooked in. It was refreshing to watch a drama where I’m still unsure who is the leading couple and there isn’t backstabbing to get the main guy/female. The drama within the drama was really cool and made me think more and have a deeper appreciation for dramas as a whole. And…it made me sad, when I realized the male lead in reality, committed suicide.
Now that’s over and I’ve gone on to The Princess Man. I’m a little weary of running down dramas as they air, which is why I’ve put off MoonSun and ShutUp. When it’s fully subbed, is when I’ll watch it. Well, I’m following Salaryman….which so far is the BEST show of 2012 for me. If I start talking about the awesomeness that is Yoo Bang, this thread won’t be able to handle it. XD
park yong ha really broke a lot of hearts! I didn’t see on air but I saw a man’s story and I really liked the story and his character and I was really disappointed to see he had left this world. I didn’t think on air had anything going for it but I’ll give it a look.
I think it’s the kinda drama that a person might either like or dislike. It’s not a romcom, it’s not a melodrama….it’s just a drama, and I dunno..I just really liked it. Lol
I LOVED Story of a Man..probably one of my all time favorite dramas, and was very sad to hear the Park Yong Ha had died. I went looking to see what else he was in, which is how I found out. Very sad.
that is how it happened with me too. loving story, googling him and find him not alive anymore.
Happy Friday everyone!
Haven’t really done anything kdrama-related this week–waiting for the new wave of shows to premier. I was one of those ppl who were more annoyed by the new shows being delayed a week than by MoonSun being delayed a week.
Speaking of which, does anyone know how that MBC(?) strike is doing? Did the PD come back to finish editing or did they have to outsource the editing?
@ Ivoire : Reply to the Kim Sun Ah’s comment, and little biography of Mystisith: Reality surpasses fiction.
“Hitting Enter key or not, that’s the question”: Enter. Come what may.
Intro: Dramabeans – A second home somewhere in the cyberspace. Everyone knows the web is a jungle. It’s something hard to explain, but to simplify, I feel safe and at ease here, especially in the OT. I’m going to surf on that feeling this week, and open my heart a little bit.
-Lacking social skills: Is it just my assessment or have people told me that?
Both. The reasons for that are in my past. Dramas will never beat my life in term of makjang (I wish it was a joke, unfortunately everything I’m typing here is true). Ready for the ride? OK, let’s go:
I was born in 1976, at only 6 months of pregnancy. I weighed 1,1 kg (yes, 1100 grams), and at that time doctors were very pessimistic. For the little story, I met one of them when I was 18 years old and he told me they didn’t have the proper surgical instruments at that time: They had to use veterinarian needles normally used for kitties. I have pictures of me in the incubator, and my thighs were like the thumb of my mum. No major medical sequelea until now: Isn’t it a miracle? My mother was already 43 years old when she had me (I learned much later she suffered miscarriages before having me, and I should have a big sister but she died 15 days after being born: My parents gave me her first name). So, unless there is other family secrets, I’m an only child. My father was 16 years older than my mom (who was her third wife, and a complete enemy to his family: I have a lot of half siblings, but I never met them, even for the inheritance matters- Not War and Peace, War and more War). My dad was a very good father, but he was alcoholic and violent with my mom (I saw him breaking her arm one day, but usually I was the one able to stop him by shielding her, because I knew he would never touch me). Anyway, I lived in paradise from my 4 to my 9 years old in Spain, in an isolated beautiful house (surrounded by citrus and almond trees) built by my dad. Once again, I realized later my mom her, lived in hell. My dad died from liver cancer while he was operated when I was 7 (no binge drinking people: A dead person with green skin is not pretty). It was July 14th (National Day in France): Talk about screwing a party! My mom died 2 years later from both loneliness/depression and a throat cancer (cigarette people, never start): I was by her side till the end, when she became a morphinized skeleton. After a period of uncertainty, I came back in France and was formally adopted by my aunt (a blind person) who lived and is still living with my godfather. Anyway, I could write an essay about abandonment issues. That’s why I feel so close to Bong Sun’s character in Me Too Flower: I completely understand her, and my psychological defense mechanisms are the same: Leave before being left. When I was 14 years old, my godfather/uncle started to display inappropriate behavior toward me, but hopefully it didn’t go all the way, and when I said NO MORE, he stopped. At that time I thought that if he hadn’t stopped I could have gone to court, or I could have killed him… We’ll never know… I learned later he had been beaten by his father when he was a child, and was sexually abused by his uncle. Wanna talk about karma? Well, for me my philosophy is: Don’t do to others what you don’t want them to do, and learn from the mistakes of the previous generations.PS: Motto of the family: Always tell things when it’s too late and the bad done. We are very good at that.
Add to all that crap that at 10 years old, I entered and lived mostly in a military boarding school for orphan girls in the countryside near Paris (with a castle, look at the pics!!) until I was 18 and got my Baccalauréat (A level diploma) in Sciences Médico-Sociales:
http://www.aepa.asso.fr/cms/index.php?page=historique-3
For the little story, the school and the land has been sold by the army to Paul Newman in 1995. He transformed it in a haven for kids having heavy medical condition:
http://www.leparisien.fr/abo-seine-et-marne-sud/le-centre-pour-enfants-malades-cree-par-paul-newman-prend-un-nouveau-depart-28-10-2009-691004.php
Life is a funny ride, full of twists and turns, and irony. Anyway,I can’t imagine a better idea for that incredible place… (Memories of secret hide and seek games in the basement of the castle, or in the nearby forest). It was really an enchanted kingdom for us kids. Those boarding school years were happy times, but hard times also. They gave me my best friends (and foes too). It certainly contributed to solidify my personality. I have been protected from the outside, and at the same time I’ve been kept from experiencing the normal life of a teenager. On a sidenote, I can totally understand what the boys go through when they do their military duty in Korea. What’s true, is that I missed healthy masculine presence at that time, even if some of our teachers where men doing their military service. Can you imagine? Three young handsome guys teaching literature/swimming/chemistry (in every sense of the word…) for 400 unleashed females (some were 20 years old)… I have quite a lot of juicy stories to tell, I assure you…
My adulthood is more classic and uneventful, but I sincerely believe I had my share of life accidents and bizarre for a lifetime before. It’s a miracle I didn’t became a druggie, an insane person or a homeless, or a teenage mom. Again, my survival instinct, my cleverness and my sense of humor made the difference. And maybe a good star somewhere… I suppose it’s also one of the reasons of my fertile imagination.
-A very good listener: I’m one too, which is a consequence of all I previously said. I’m so sensitive in fact that I get cautious around people. I’m very empathetic, like a sponge. It’s extremely taxing for the nerves, so it’s true that I like to isolate myself. Maybe a light autistic syndrome
.
-“What you see is what you get”: Totally agree with that. Like me the way I am or let me be. When I was younger I tried hard to be what I thought people wanted me to be. First, it slowly kills you inside. Secondly, it doesn’t work: People can see when you’re not yourself, and then you get the opposite of what you expected (affection and acknowledgment).
-Being jealous: I have been jealous before. I’m not anymore. It’s not something you decide to do. It’s a truth you discover for yourself one day, deep in your heart. When I like someone, I want that person to be happy. Preferably with me of course, but if it’s with someone else, then it’s OK. I hate, absolutely hate emotional blackmailing, manipulative persons, and people who treat others like personal possessions. How can friendship or love coexist with such premises? Freedom and truth before anything else.
-Lee Dong Wook doesn’t do it for me, why?
Well, that’s a good question! After having seriously considered the question from every possible angle, I come with 2 solutions: 1° First hand aversion, no valid reason at all. 2° I’m in love with the man and I am in complete denial. Prejudice or cliché, pick one (not even sure I’m joking here…). More seriously: I saw him in only 2 dramas: In Scent of a Woman (acting OK, chemistry good also, but didn’t like the character or the story), and in Wild Romance (if he has a comic talent, I didn’t sense it. Plus I’m allergic to dumb characters: I prefer 1000X devilish ones). Maybe he needs a tailor made character to impress me.
Wow, that’s a long post. Now, end of my story. I’m late and i want to read what others have to say this week…
Thank you sharing a little part of yourself, Mys.
Love that you feel comfortable to share your story with us.
You should put this on a t-shirt (except it wouldn’t fit)
When I was younger I tried hard to be what I thought people wanted me to be. First, it slowly kills you inside. Secondly, it doesn’t work: People can see when you’re not yourself, and then you get the opposite of what you expected (affection and acknowledgment).
but I must disagree on one point.
I LURRRVE LEE DONG WOOK!
(And, sorry, I am JEALOUS because your english is so good compared to my french…)
<3 <3 <3
Long sentences…I’m a bit like Ivoire in that aspect. Being concise is not my forte, and i LOVE philosophy. People must think i’m a know-it-all. LOL.
If you keep Lee Dong Wook, can i have Yoon Shi Yoon all for myself? I need to train my commercial spirit…
I will share YSY, but I will NOT give up YSY!
I actually don’t own LDW currently, sadly.
Who do I own that anyone cares about? Shin Ha-kyun, Ha Jung-woo, Song Kang-ho – mostly film guys, and Yoo Seung-ho, but I don’t tell anyone about THAT.
I LOVE Song Kang-ho the most right now. The sexy, diseased, vampire priest from Thirst. So much.
LOL at the reference of Ivoire being the long winded one
. It reminded me of the expression “pulling a Monica” from the American TV show “Friends.”
On a serious note, “Merci beaucoup!” for taking the time to respond to my post in detail, thus opening up more about yourself. I personally appreciate it and it helps in knowing you better and in understanding you better as well. I haven’t read everything yet, I kept trying to see if you had contributed your post today, and then I kept writing as you can see above and reading responses (and writing some more), so it is only now that I have seen your post. I have to say that I have a lot of empathy and compassion for what you have gone through and also that believe it or not, I can relate to a lot of what you shared. I am not saying that my experience has been exactly like yours, each person’s experience is unique and I value yours. It was just interesting to me the many times I find myself nodding my head while I skimmed over what you wrote, because I have either gone through some of it or I have witnessed family members go through similar (or close) types of situations. Again, thank you so much for sharing, that was brave of you, I appreciate and understand the fact that you made yourself vulnerable in doing so.
I will have to read (a tete reposee) what you wrote, process it, absorb it and reply. I don’t think I can do it right now. I am glad you wrote a long post, I am always interested in what others have to say, and I am always glad to see that I am not the only one who does it, it makes me feel less, I don’t know… weird? I can just imagine people seeing my name and going “oh, oh, there goes Ivoire, how long is it going to be this time” LOL… Oh well… We are who we are, aren’t we?
You mentioned Philosophy, and I mentioned in that Kim sun Ah article that I was a Philosophy and Foreign Languages major so I too tend to like to think things through, analyze, dissect etc… and I used to have to write long papers, so writing is an exercise I like to do. Maybe I miss it on some level, so I get to do it here. I too love Philosophy, and I used to talk about it every day when I was in High School when I would get home. I would want to discuss it with my dad, and he ended knowing my curriculum for my Philosophy class for my senior year in High School. One day my dad asked my mom if I was the one taking the Baccalaureate Exam (Baccalaureat) at the end of the school year or if he was, because he knew so much about my curriculum and about philosophers, when I was the one in High School, not him. That was because I would have conversations with him about that… a lot
. My dad could be funny and cute at times.
I am rambling again, but really what I wanted to say was “Thank you” and that I will get back to this later.
I added another comment below, I am 26.6
My nephew says his motto is: Be yourself. No one can ever tell you you’re doing it wrong.
He put that on the back of his high school graduation announcements.
Love that boy.
Hi Mystisith. Thank you for sharing. I’m so glad that you did. Your story is an inspiration to all young kids going through the same things that you did. (Unfortunately, there are so many of them).
They can look at you and say, if she got through it, so can I.
If this can help just one person out there, then it will be a good thing. And if someone wants to ask me questions about anything, i will try to answer the best i can.
In spite of all that happened to you, you’re one of the people I always look forward to see on OT on Fridays. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks to you for reading. Posting this was a tough decision to take, and i needed some nerve. But now, i feel a lot better. Some things have to be done, and i won’t teach you that timing is important to do so.
I am so glad you feel better after having posted your thoughts and story. It makes me feel better about the questions I asked you in the Kim Sun Ah post and about the long posts I have written in the past in response to your comments.
Me too! I’m so glad you’re a survivor!
And now people can understand why my virtual fathers are George Lucas and James Cameron: To survive as a woman in hostile environments is as natural as breathing for me. The only one checking emergency exits in fire stations is me. You want to be safe on Lost island? Stick with me. That’s also why my handbag is actually a heavy backpack: I always have the solution for people’s who go out hands in their pockets and find themselves stuck in problematic situations. I suppose it does also explain my hate for high heels.
You’re a brave girl, sweetie.
Thanks Cynthia. Part is bravery, and part is innate resilience. And a small little part (in my personal case) is help from friends.
*cheers for Mysti* who is definitely a survivor – and one who kept her sense of humor and wonder and curiosity about the world, too.
Wow, I have no words… just hope you are happy now with people around who love you as you are.
I am WOW about me too when i start thinking about the past, but as you can see, words are my best friends! And i’m certainly happier than a lot of people in the world now.
Thanks for sharing your story unni,I never imagined you had such a hard childhood.I must applaud you for your strength because a lot of people can’t survive the situation you were in…You’re story sort of reminds me of Jane Eyre. She was an orphan too and she had to live in an all girl boarding school as well, and she turned out to be a great person too.
Now,how can you NOT love Lee Dong Wook? He’s adorable!
Awww. And now i’m an unni. You can’t imagine how good it feels to read this. Thanks shirin-noona.

They say what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. In my case, certainly.
Am i a great person? Well, i”m not that bad. And i hope i can get better in the future. I need to stretch my heart a little bit more. “Emotional fitness”.
You’re welcome unni:)
I also wanted to add that you seem to have gotten quite a response and many encouraging comments. “Yay!!!” for that. See how much we care about you?
Yes, i know! I cried seeing the encouraging replies. Sometime you just have to put your trust in the human kind, there is no other choice anyway right?. But that’s certainly not something easy to do for me.
Yay, Friday!
History of the Salaryman & Moon/Sun concluded, all in all Salaryman was a much better ride.
Watching Ten, finished the 1st case, currently on the 2nd.
Wife is watching Feast of the Gods, first couple of episodes. We’re also watching C-Drama, Beauties of the Tang Palace.
Watched the Chinese movie, Aftershock on ionair. Not bad.
I heard TEN was bloody. So is it like CSI or what?
I never watched Moon/Sun but I read all the Dramabeans recaps and only watched the parts I wanted to watch. It was better like that anyway — for me at least.
Do you watch a lot of Chinese dramas in general?
I’ve watched a couple of historical Chinese dramas. The girls are pretty, I like the plots, the costumes are fantastic .
I’ve only watched 2 1/2 episodes of Ten. Yeah, there’s blood and a cringe worthy scene from what I’ve seen so far.
If anybody is interested in Won Bin’s “Man from Nowhere”, it’s available for streaming in amazon.com
- it’s even free, if you have prime membership.
WON BIN!!!
Required Won Bin viewing is “Guns and Talks” 2001 – especially as a counter point to MFN.
So cute and young.
You can see it on YouTube, too, with subs.
Guns and talk! hilarious. One of my fav kmovies
Isn’t it?
I wasn’t expecting anything other than another Shin Ha-Kyun movie where people get revenge and shoot each other and blood spurts out every where.
But I was LOL’ing in the first few minutes and was de-LIGHTed with the whole thing. I actually spent money on it so I could lend it to friends.
It was fun to see Jung Jin Young facing off with the boys. He has so much charisma on screen.
Note to self: watch The King and The Clown again.
Just found these pics!
I could these guys up.
http://www.shinhakyun.com/index.php?mid=photo&page=1&document_srl=16094
So cute. Won Bin is like a totally different guy in that movie. You can’t even recognize him when you compare to Man from nowhere.
Those are the two intro to Kfilms I gave to my husband to watch.
I told him to watch MfN first, and THEN Guns to see the change.
Hey! I know all those faces! Hello funny friends! Maybe should see that. I can’t help but thinking about Marrying the mafia, Dharma, or even Kiss me Kill me. When Koreans go into comedy for their movies, they don’t joke! Hilarious.
Just realized that there is a slew of Korean movies that you can stream from Amazon for free if you have prime membership … which I do. Guess what I will be doing over weekend. Thanks Janet.
Happy Friday everyone! The weather in Chicago has been insane lately (in a good way) and has been distracting me from drama watching. I am also in a bit of a drama funk for some reason. Am on the hunt for my next drama crack but am feeling pretty ambivalent about things. It may be with the exception of the recently completed History of Salaryman I don’t like to watch drama’s live.
I usually wait till all the episodes are over and marathon them. So now I am watching:
Que Sera Sera (ep 7)
The Women who still wants to marry (ep 7)
Fermentation Family (ep 2)
The Bachelor Vegetable Store (just 1st episode)
I am really enjoying the WHSWTM, Que Sera Sera is interesting because I have no idea where its heading.
Fermentation Family also looks good and i have heard everyone raving about how good it is. (The food shots are AMAZING – I WANT TO EAT EVERYTHING).
Bachelor Vegetable Store – the ending of the first episode just weirded me out. I guess i was expecting somehing more lighthearted like FBRS but random unnecessary death, followed by a switched identity, wtf!??! (Isn’t it based on a true story? I am going to go out on a limb and guess that didn’t happen. Plus do people really have star shaped birthmarks?!! Really?)
So Is it worh it to keep watching it? I am still semi-interested to see what happens when they grow up.
I think my issue right now is that i havent really fallen in love with any of the drama’s OTPs that am watching right now. I want the Cute!!!
Any suggestions are dramas airing now to begin watching.
Also Dramafever has a t-drama Love Forward that they just added. Anyone know about it? Is it good?
BVS is melo…not light and fluffy like they tried to make it out to be. It’s not bad. I watch it just to see the main lead. hehe
Fermentation family: very goood drama. i would love to eat all the food shown in there but I don’t live in Korea so I can’t.
sooooo sad.
I loved TWWSWTM (but not that crazy title) from beginning to end.
Bachelor Veggie Store: I started at ep3. All that dysfunctional family affair + the switched girls story is meh… What is good in that drama is the bromance between the boys, and the all story of how they became successful selling veggies, and how they became men.
FF is a kill. I swear i gained weight just looking at the food.
Sidenote: I saw that 2 dramas are in preparation for this year: One about Kimchi and one about magkeolli process.
If you want a cute couple, watch the TW Fondant Garden. You will melt like an icecream under the Florida sun. Me and my food metaphors… Hopeless cause.
Hmmm, all of your comments about BVS is making me more interested in watching episode 2. That and when it was airing i remember something about abs being mentioned….
LOL
Yessh… there was abs. ^^
But I love the bromance between the friends more.
FF made me hungry every single episode. I was like, Okay I kind of see the ingredients they are putting in…could I try it my self? If only I had the amounts
Haha…’cute’ is probably the last word I would ever think of to explain the Que Sera Sera OTP, but it’s a great drama.
I’m getting a little exhausted of live dramas as well, but that’s probably not gonna end any time soon with ‘King’ and ‘Rooftop’ right around the corner.
Definitely, Que Sera Sera is anything but cute. I admit that was a painful drama for me. I didn’t like Erics character at all, made me so mad that dropped it around ep 10 and just went back to see final a few month later.
Cruelsummer I suspect we have very similar taste. As those 2 are on my to-watch list as well. (Also your love for Season 1 of WGM).
Yeah I knew going into it that Que Sera Sera was not going to be light but I had heard Eric really acted his pants off and I am a fan so wanted to check it out. I kind of paused at episode 7 because I was starting think everyone sucked – as in not a good person. (Also my issue with Mad men)
I plan on returning but need some fun to balance it out!
You definitely need balance when watching QSS. I love rom/coms and can only tolerate angst/melodrama in moderation.
Are you gonna watch King and Rooftop live? I’m looking forward to spazzing if it’s good, although I feel so bad for Yoochun I’m not sure how much joy I’ll be able to get out of ‘Rooftop’ knowing how sad he probably is.
Lovebug!! Hello Fellow Chicagoan — what a great winter you guys had this year compared to 2010′s 5-feet of snow! There are times I miss playing in the white stuff… and then I remember having to shovel the stuff and kick those thoughts to the curb, as I sit on my patio in shorts and a t-shirt, cracking open another beer…
I wish people wouldn’t give up on BVS just because of the disjointedness (is that even a word?) of the first two episodes. I may be off-the-charts biased (ha!), but outside of the random moments of crazyness, it really is a sweet little drama and My Precious gave it his all (and then some). I still have my vendetta against DramaFever for misleading their viewers by (1) marketing it as a rom-com, and (2) not explaining properly the 24-episode run was NOT a four-episode extension (which is when the flamewars escalated amongst the commenters there). But I’ll defend it to my death as one of those ‘park-your-brain dramas’ to watch somewhere down the road. And the excess of Hot Absworthy Bachelors helps as well.
BTW, I have a half-moon-shaped birthmark on my upper thighs, so it does happen.
My son has a heart shaped birthmark on his butt. :0)
That would be a TMI comment, if anyone actually knew him and he would shoot me, lol.
Lol
I have a series of freckles on my upper left shoulder that, when connected with pen, makes the Big Dipper (constellation). Go figure.
As for BVS – still detecting some bitterness, C.
Agree though, the original descriptors for BVS led us all to believe it was a rom/com and not the melo animal it truly was.
Once that dawned on me, I really enjoyed it – even if crazy-eyes mommy was over the top. I really did appreciate how thoroughly she was dumped by Daddy, right to the bitter end – and I really loved the ending for the OTP. Just right. Although, do you think they all moved into the fancy house for the happily-ever-after? I hope so. We all deserved it.
lmao. yea…. agreee. BVS is definitely not a rom com! and the mom got what she deserves…go crazy! yep.. or she was always crazy?
I do the same too.I don’t have the patience to wait week after week for the episodes to come ,so I marathon dramas once they’re finished. But I watch one drama at a time.I can’t watch more than once cause it gets too distracting and then I can’t function properly!
@Lovebug: Someone from my neck of the woods. I work downtown Chicago and live in Justice. Glad to “meet” you.
Holy Cow!! I was born and raised at 63rd and Harlem (Summit) and spent a few years in Justice (on 84th Street just west of Archer) as well — my folks needed a bigger house after Child #5 popped out. It’s a small freakin’ world!!
So how about those Cubbies, eh?
Que Sera Sera …can get a little aggravating, but there are a few “OMG DID THAT REALLY JUST HAPPEN?” moments in there that made watching worth it.
I dropped Bachelor vegetable Store after ep 4….I just wasn’t feeling it. I’ll go back to it eventually because I hate leaving any drama unfinished.
Fermentation family is another one I dropped (after ep 5) Nothing really WRONG with the drama but there were other shows I liked better at the time.
I watched about 4 eps of Salary Man. It’s funny but I found I liked reading the recaps …I will watch it in a marathon of a rainy/lazy weekend
I love, love lover SUFBB. I don’t want it to end! Rare for me to say that. Usually I’m ready for the wrap at ep 12.
Sometimes i really dip into a strange one. Gira Gira was really weird for me….I got to ep 3 and thought to myself….can I really watch the rest of this?
I watched Mr. Idol (meh)
I still haven’t gotten back to watching Real Love Please Ring the Bell Twice yet….I was on ep 4
I’ve watched BOF, Hana Yori dango…but never saw Meteor Garden/Rain
I loved Vic Chou as a chef in a drama (but can’t remember the name of it)….so I’m pretty stoked to go back and see a younger version of his bad self!
I’ve watched all types of Vic Zhou stuff – Mars, Corner With Love, Meteor Garden. My favorite by far though, was Black and White, a police procedural that I think just came out last year.
Oh, and the movie “I Love You 10,000 Years” was a fair enjoyable couple of hours.
HIIII ALL! Happy Fridays (:
I’ve been marathoning History of a Saloryman, I’m in the middle of episode 17 and I love it. (My nails love it too since they’ve been Yeo Chi-fied…and awesome)
Lol, forever late since I only watch dramas when they’re done. That being said I’ll be looking forward to watching Shut Up! & Dream High 2 (even though I know DH2 is not all that popular round here).
Has anyone seen the trailers for Marriage Plot yet?!!?!?!?!? I saw them and literally Kang Hye Jung & Lee Kyu Han are at the alter…with guns…pointed at each other. HAHA! I am in love~
Also, I’m really looking forward to Standby O: So much eye-candy for meee. I read that Simon D has also been cast (he’s a rapper if you didn’t know, he’s done variety shows and is hilarious, and this’ll be his 1st drama. Also he’s a cutie!) So I am excites. I hope it gets subbed. Because Lee Ki Woo. And Ryu Jin. And Simon D–even though I’m sure his role is comparably small but whatever!
(Simon D) http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oAx0hKwM8zA/TzJ5Xqw0S4I/AAAAAAAABBs/XuQokUkGGrY/s1600/simon+d3.jpg
Yeah, soooo those are things I wanted to rave about lol!
what about simon d! I saw simon d on yu hui yol’s very charming, very charismatic. I liked him right away. I haven’t seen marriage plot trailer I have to remember to request it on dramafever, and stand by!!!! hmm
He is very easy to like! I liked him right away too. He also has an unexpectedly deep voice hahaha. I seriously hope someone will sub Marriage Plot too. I’m looking forward to that drama, so I’ll be really sad if it doesn’t get picked up ):
Happy Friday Everyone! *HUGS to All!*
I’ve been lurking and skimming the past few weeks but not having enough time in the day to spend on the OT. I trust everyone is well.
Glad to see Shel has been nicely recovering from surgery, at least I assume so since I’ve been seeing your name.
So what’s been happening in everyone’s lives?
On 3/1/12 our KTeen had parent-teacher conferences. His teacher just love him! Man that boy is so smart and we can’t take any credit. Five A’s (3 of which are A+) a B+ in World History and a C in English (which is awesome since he is not from USA). So not only is he extremely tall, handsome, well mannered, sociable, and talented, he is intellegent as well! His parents must be so proud of him because I know that we, his guardians, sure are!
And today we went to parent-teacher conferences for Wee MJP! Man are we blessed with our kids! His teachers think he is adorable and very intelligent. Maybe a bit too smart because he wants to do his own thing. Because he is an only child he need to work on his social interaction skills, but out of all the marks for needs improvement he only has three areas checked, the rest he is doing an awesome job!
Dearest Ricky the Royal Highness. I don’t know if I should thank you or hit you for telling me about Thai lakorns. I am so a total addict now. And they are way too long to be an addict, so I am losing way too much sleep again. So to you I say with heartfelt gratitude, “Thank you.” And then follow up with a *Punch!* on the arm.
I’ve been keeping in touch with my “separated at birth” sister CMRprindle. Sorry to the rest of you who are on Facebook. I am very anti-Facebook/Twitter for my own personal reasons. But I do chat on Dramacrazy’s site, so if you let me know your handle, I’ll look you up. I love chatting with folks here on the OT, but sometimes Friday just isn’t a good day for me.
madam!
I’m glad to hear news from you. Have a good weekend.
ahjummabunny love! *HUGS*
I’ve been reading your comments, my dear. I’m glad you are doing all right!
I was just thinking about you, MJP!
You can punch me all you want, it’s not my fault you’re easily swayed :p
And I’m glad you’re happy with your kids.
Ricky TRH,
I am glad you are doing well with school and causing quite the stir with the ladies here, as usual! Give my greetings and hugs to the royal family, especially the Queen Mother!
“causing quite the stir with the ladies”
LOL That’s one way of putting it, MJP.
My mom brought my grandma, uncle & wife, single uncle and tiny cousins to the zoo today. They had a blast!
Ricky TRH,
Yes, you stir the hearts and minds of the DB ladies into quite a frenzy. I’ve seen some almost declarations of adoration in these here OT’s.
As for the family, I am glad they enjoyed themselves. I love going to the zoo.
I was thinking about you last week and wondering how you were. I’m glad to hear things are going good for you!
I’m recovering s-l-o-w-l-y ….at least I think so, though the doctors say that I’m actually healing very quickly.
Shel, *HUGS*
Glad to hear the doctors are satisfied with the healing process.
Hey MJ25!!
http://www.iheartlakorns.com
Shukmeister! *HUGS*
*goes to check out the link!*
HI MJP!!!!!!!!! Missed your happy presence
Hi Min! I’ve been reading your posts below. I hope you are able to get some rest for tonight! (Saturday)
Hello all and Happy Friday! Wahoo!
I need some suggestions. I finally got my hubby to watch a KDrama with me – Wild Romance. He loved it. Ha! I now talked him into Protect the Boss and he’s loving it as well. Any suggestion for the next one? We watched the first episode of Salaryman and he thought it was funny, but when I showed him PTB, he was rolling.
I can’t believe he’s actually watching these with me. He’s usually a CSI, NCIS etc kind of guy. I’m just so happy that he’s willing to watch and now kinda understands my addiction.
Hope everyone has a great weekend!
Spread the love around, TammieR!
Why not Vampire Prosecutor? Since he’s into procedural stuff.
wow such good news!
I say try salaryman again. I thought the first episode was funny but there were times I couldn’t breathe from all the laughing. I also recently loved tree with deep roots, it’s a thriller.
City Hunter.
How about The Greatest Love w/ CSW as Dokko Jin cracks me up? Salaryman is on my to-watch-list. I’ve heard such good things from the folks here on OT. But I just picked up God’s Quiz.
I also like the same kind of CSI/ NCIS stuff too. So he might like God’s Quiz (on Viki). It has elements of CSI, and House. I’ve heard good things about TEN but haven’t seen it yet. I also enjoyed Special Investigation Team (on CrunchyRoll/ KDrama).
I also agree with the following shows.
City Hunter: cool action sequences and the cliff hangers killed me. LMH didn’t hurt either.
Vampire Hunter: Loved the look & feel of the series. More of a procedural than a supernatural show.
Happy OT everyone! Hope you guys have an awesome St. Paddies Day. Don’t get too wasted. Drive safely.
So since it’s almost St. Paddies, I was wondering if anyone saw the drama Ireland with Binnie. I was put off by the name until I read that the heroine was adopted and raised in Ireland. If that’s the only connection to the country than I’m not sure they should of titled a show after it. Anyways, is it worth watching?
I read some more about that drama and I was put off because of kim min joon’s role. I wanted him to get the girl. I think the lead actress is really good, or she is popular.
Hello, and happy friday, everyone! I think this is my second time posting here? haha!
Just wanted to share, I went through all the 58 episodes of Ojakkyo Brothers in one week or so. It’s been a while since I’ve been that obsessed with a drama, although it may have something to do with the fact that I’ve been doing a lot of live watching, and sometimes it’s not the same as having every episode available. Anyways, I loved it, faults and all, although I could have done without the manufactured angst of the final episodes (and without Kim Jae Ha). Tae Hee and Ja Eun were so cute, although Tae Beom and Soo Young were definitely my favorites. Man, shipping them was so stressful! I ended up getting absolutely obsessed with Ryu Soo Young (again! I loved him in My Princess) and I want to see him in another drama soon. Preferably as the lead. I was checking his dramawiki, and his older dramas look kind of uninteresting, anything I should watch?
Like a lot of people here, I’m following Shut Up and Dream High 2. I haven’t watched this week’s episodes of either drama, but I’m kind of bored by both, honestly. Shut Up is the better drama but after episode 9 I can’t get invested in it, I don’t know why. I loved the first half! ): Dream High 2 is just badly written. I’m only watching because I’m interested in some of the friendships and cute moments, but that’s it. Oh, about Shut Up, is it just me or does anyone find it weird that they’re a legit rock band but they’re being marketed by their company as idols? Like, not having girlfriends, doing press conferences, going on tons of variety shows, having a “face”… like, I watched the Rock Rock Rock mini-drama and the way both bands were shown was so different.
Anyway, I’m considering checking out Salaryman and either Fermentation Family or Feast of the Gods. But I haven’t seen many comments on the later two, so I’m not sure wich one I should watch first, haha!
Welcome, Sunny! I do believe I haven’t said that
Thank You!
Please tell me…how could you watch 58 hours of a show in one week?
I can’t even watch a 16 episode drama in a weekend!
LOL lots of staying up late. Before I realized it, I had watched like 15 episodes in 2 days, it was crazy haha!
I recently finished insoon is pretty from friday night at 10 to 8pm on saturday. I think I had some trouble with the internet and I took a break to cook and of course hwajungshil too.
Last weekend, I watched “Fated to Love You.” I started Friday afternoon and finished around 8 pm on Saturday (think it has 24 episodes). Then I followed it on Sunday with “Drunken to Love You” which I started on Sunday and finished on Monday (it has 18 episodes). It all depends on the drama.
But…I mean….do you fast forward or anything? It takes me longer than an hour to watch an hour long episode (phone, pee break, meals, child, neighbors, mother, dog, need a break, whatever) and I cannot imagine watching 18 hours of anything straight.
Yup, it depends on the drama like Hillary said. Most dramas take me more than an hour per episode (especially those that I’m live-watching) but some dramas just get me so immersed that I watch the whole thing without realizing lol
@ Hil – which one did you like better? Ricky and I are on opposing corners on this one.
I prefer Fated to Love You.
And I preferred Drunken To Love You.
Maybe we’ll both love whatever the third installment will be.
if you haven’t seen bad couple you should see it! I loved him in that one. My first drama with him was that one. I didn’t mind him in lawyers of the korea. okay, that’s not true, I really minded him not getting the girl in lawyers but I could let it go a little. Fermentation family is beautiful. I watched the first two episodes of feast and couldn’t stand it but jomo says she likes it, so maybe I’ll pick it up again when there are more episodes.
Yeah, you gotta get by the first few, I should have mentioned that…It heats up with the adult cast.
Ohh, thanks for the recommendations! I’ll check those out.
Yeah, I’ll start with Fermentation
Reading some comments here it seems like FoG it’s melo and has a slower start, so yeah xD
And Sunny, I second ahjummabunny’s recommendations of Bad Couple and Fermentation Family.
Definitely FF. I didn’t care much for Bad couple.
as for Ryu Soo Young dramas (aah I was so obsessed with him at one point- I even have sketches I made for art class of him… lol) Like Ahjummabunny said Bad Couple is a good drama, though I personally found the last 4 eps a bit frustrating, but still good. Also there’s 18 vs 29 where Siwon played RSY character’s young version…
Morning DramaBeaners!
Sounds like everyone is having a decent week, so that’s good! It was a nice week for me, as well – and it ends with corned beef and cabbage tomorrow, yay! Does anyone else mash up their potatos and carrots together, or is it just me and my brother?
I am current on SUFBB (hurry next week! But…next week, don’t come!) and DH2 (I can’t quit you!…but now at least I know it really is you, and not me.) but I have just begun Ep 11 of OP. I still really think that Yi Seul and Ji Won should be together. I’m going to accept whatever comes and hope that they at least give me a good reason for it, but I wish it could be Ji Won.
For the rest of it….it’s been a drama snacking kind of week. I’ve watched another episode of Princess Man (like), another episode of Love You 1000 Years or whatever it’s called (like), most of Episode 1 of Que Sera Sera (so THAT’s Eric. He has a different look from most of the ‘handsome’ Korean actors, doesn’t he? Very handsome, but different. Think I like.) Part of an episode of Little Mom Scandal (mostly because – what the hell? Seriously? Might turn out to be a better treatment than I expected.) and finallly:
Special Investigation Team TEN. YES YES YES YES YES
and looking forward to The King, RoofTop Prince, Towel Slip Dr. Jin…something else.
Hello, JoAnne!
What is “Towel Slip Dr Jin…something else”?
Is that a legit drama?
Towel Slip Dr. Jin is TimeSlip Dr. Jin, but with Song Seung Heon in the lead role. I can’t take credit for the rename, but I refuse to use anything else.
…something else meant only that there’s something else I’m looking forward to but I couldn’t think of it.
Ahhh, thanks for clearing that up.
oh and I saw that article about ShinHwa and the plastic surgery and when I looked at the picture I immediately said (having never seen them before at all) oh, that must be Andy! – due simply to someone saying Yoochun resembles him in the last OT. He really does.
Fashion King? King2Hearts2?
I love the way Eric moves in Que Sera Sera. He’s dangerous, if exuding sexuality can be considered dangerous. It makes his female lead PERFECT for him through out. Let me know what you think after the elevator scene.
I wish they would hurry up and cast the female for Towel Slip Dr. Jin. Come ON!
Funny you mention how he moves…because I watched this scene where he’s going down a hallway in a hotel (they’re checking out banquet halls but actually got there chasing some woman who cut them off, who of course he’s going to sleep with – he just threw a drink in her face in a bar after meeting up with her again accidentally, that’s the spot I’m at)
Anyway. He’s walking away from me and I thought to myself ‘Eric walks like a BOSS.’ yum.
Jomo –
HO-LEE mo-lee. I felt that down to my TOES. That little smile? His instruction? Her response?
For anyone who’s interested, watch the last two minutes of Episode 3 of Que Sera, Sera. Although you might have to have watched their interactions previously in order to get the full impact…but.
Why is that kiss not mentioned in kiss compilations?
As an aside – I’m really liking this story so far. The love quadrangle is being set up and I am interested in all the characters.
“Down to my toes” EXACTLY!
I dunno – it should be.
There is nothing flashy about it, maybe? People look at QSS as too serious of a drama, rather than one of the fun rom-coms?
Someone did an episode cut and put it on YT, but the network found it and shut it down, but it had something like 70,000 views.
I prolly rewatched 100 times. It really is SUCH A GREAT KISS!!
In this video, at about 1:01, there is a quick view of but the set up and subsequent convo are missing, so you miss half the fun. Now that I think about it, the first few episodes establish the OTP very well. I think that is why I hung on for the ride.

you know what I was thinking, hollywood could benefit from the private lives that chungmuro actors have. I’ve never been fascinated by a hollywood actor’s walk before or the way he makes googly eyes at his costars! I think the affection we have for korean actors is based mainly on their work.
Lesson of the day: “slip” means trunks in French. You can imagine what the words -towel- and -slip- in the same sentence evoke for me…
Slip means slip in english, you can imagine how much mental energy I have exhausted trying to get that damn$d towel to slip…
LOL! “The Force you must use jomo”.
hmm I mash up carrots and potatoes… actually my whole family does, it’s possibly the best combination of starch and carotene xP
hmm I like your snacking variety^^
As for my week of watching:
-I’ve rewatched the last 4 eps of Padam Padam… and somehow it’s sucked the recap writing energy from me… but I’ll get there… I will finish it…
-Also watched Ep 12 of Extravagant Challenge/skip Beat… and it’s supposedly the penultimate episode but I don’t feel like the drama is actually at the end yet… I don’t know how the wrap up is going to be…
- Then I watched episode 3 of Park Jung Min’s Taiwanese drama Fondant Garden and it makes me hunger for cakes…
-I also watched the movie Fujoshi Kanojo (how to date an Otaku girl)… a little strange, but it was warm hearted.
of those you mentioned looking forward to, I think I’m looking forward to Rooftop Prince the most… I’m not sure about the rest of them… I think I’ll check in on Fashion King because of Yoo Ah In, but that’s about it.
Skip Beat goes to 14 episodes.
Yeah, I was confused, too.
oh 14? that’s good, but I think it’s still going to feel incomplete… of course the original work is incomplete too… but I’d like some closure in a drama.
Happy Friday everyone, I’m slowly recovering from my week in Brazil. Caught a cold on the way back but feeling much better now.
My new drama crush is “Strawberry Nights”, I really like a good crime drama.
I’m just waiting for Rooftop Prince like everyone else. Will take the weekend to find me something fun to watch while i veg out on the couch.
Suggestions? I want to watch a seriously funny comedy…no tears or melodrama.
Strawberry Nights? It’s a jdrama right? What’s it about?
It’s a crime drama about a female detective and her team, she has very strong intuition about cases but always gets in trouble for not properly investigating things. The stories are rather dark but I like it a lot actually.
Hola OT’ers! I hope everyone had a good week. My week not so good. I found out I need surgery for an ongoing issue, but I don’t have the money for it. Cue emotional breakdown-it’s been a rough couple of years and I think everything has finally gotten to me. I plan on wallowing this weekend which allows me to catch up on dramas. YAY!! I am still on the mission to finish Protect the Boss. Hopefully, I’ll be able to get up to episode 15. I plan on watching History of the Salaryman. I loved the first episode but I haven’t had time to watch more. Operation Proposal looks cute and I’ve been hearing good things so I’ll check that out. It’s so nice to have dramas so I can escape from my real life.
I hope everything works out!
My family has many health problems so I can only imagine how doomed we’d be if we had to pay for them
Fighting!
I hope everything works out for you health wise. Laughter is good medicine. Kdramas illicit laughter.
I’m living proof that laughter is good medicine, we laugh a lot here. But, seriously, I hope you can resolve it. Nothing is worse than feeling yucky all the time (been there, done that). I hope that you’ll find a solution!
Keep hanging in there. My mom does not have insurance so I am always on tenderhooks with her as she suffers from diabetes and high blood pressure.
Thanks everyone for the thoughts. I’m frustrated as all heck, but reading the comments have made me feel a little bit better.
Hello all,
today was superbusy, I’m quite exhausted and looking forward to the bed time… which is still a couple of hours far away and I still have a lot to do.
On the positive side, the spring came, at least here, in one corner of EU.
As for KDnews, I finished Dal Ja’s spring and haven’t started anything else. Keeping just the Eye Candy boys and waiting for the next week for the new dramas.
This week I realized that the Moon/Sun is the first drama I forward even in recap…
And you will not believe it, but I had another dream with Javabeans & Girlfriday! I think it is this podcast thing, that they then creep in my dreams ^^
But I’m not complaining, so far they took a good care of me! ^^
Anyway, happy spring or whatever season you have!
Ah, forgot to mention that I saw the raw Chilling Romance. Was cute, but my expectations were a bit higher…
wow forwarding even in recaps! I love soo hyuni, why is his drama bad?
Yes, I kept watching just because of him… but even he couldn’t save it and I finally dropped it around ep.14, I guess. It is just a pity that a drama with plenty of possibly interesting characters and huge possibilities of interactions, developments, bromance and sisterhood ended up so flat.
Ah, feeling so exhausted from putting the kids in bed… I should still cook for tomorrow… but I may first check the Fondant Garden to get some energy ^^
Oh yeah those Eye Candy boys are driving me crazy with their pretty faces and bromances and fights and romances. Sheesh. Are there really only 2 episodes left? I heard there might be 18 total vs. 16 but I haven’t been able to find a definite answer. *sigh*
16 or 18 or 24… I don’t care as long as they keep the quality… and the rocking songs… and the eye candy Eye Candy!
(But I rather have 16 good ones than 18 losing its quality. Ehm, I mean 16 episodes… 18 Eye Candy is definitely better than 16 ^^)
LOL!
Also fforward in recaps.
EU?
Eastern Uruguay?
Etats Unis?
Eventually Up?
Or “extremly ugly”… ^^
No, European Union… GT+1…. chocolates and pissing little boys all around ^^
Pissing little boys are positively adorable! LOL
hello ^^ haha i feel kinda young reading all of yours posts….
i got sick of writing chem notes for my upcoming tests so i came here to destress.
i’m currently at the last ep of Salaryman. i dont want to watch it cos i dont want it to end, but i want to watch it cos i wanna finish it!!
still need to finish moonsun. i got bored and too busy so i’m only at ep 12 :/
i wonder how yall can juggle so many dramas at once! i tried to juggle 3 live dramas and failed terribly lol. school is so crazy and tiring.
Hello karecity!
Age is only a number, we’re all young here in OT land
Also, you’ll get there, being able to juggle dramas and school comes with practice! And sometimes you’ll have to go on a drama Hiatus but it’ll always be there for you to get back to!
Hope you do well in chem! Fighting!
hello
haha i get weird looks when i say i like 30 plus or 40 plus actors/actresses. but they’re all so fine looking!
usually i wait for the drama to finish airing before i watch it during my holidays. but these dramas started when i had hols and was free…and i got so hooked i just couldnt bear to stop watching.
i hate chem actually i dont even know why i chose to take it. thanks anyway!!
Oh I know! There are so many hot actors that are older than me that I’ve liked at one point or another, like Jisung, Kwon Sang Woo, Joo Jin Mo, Uhm Tae woong, Ji Jin Hee, etc…
I wish I had the strength to watch a drama till it finished airing, but now that there are so many subbing groups and I don’t have to wait as long as I used to, I can’t keep away from them.
Yay!! Someone else young! But you’re probably younger than me… ^sigh^
Anyway remember dramas are more important than tests!
oh you bad influence! I guess you need a chance to be an unnie too!
how young are you? i’m a 95er. half the age of most people here i think ><
haha which is why im still watching dramas despite 2 tests next week. dramas are like my escape XD
yep that’s young.
I think a few of us can be your parent, but we are still all unnies and ricky.
Yeah…and for some of us I think our kids could be your parent, even, but my baby would just be your Unni.
Speaking of which:
WHERE IS RAINE?
Very good question. Hmmm…
She was working and now she wants to rest. Also, she misses her cello because she sent it for repairs.
I heard you calling for me UNNI!!!!!! *HUGS**KISSES**GOOD DRAMA VIBES*
I’m an unni too. I skipped from comment 18 all the way down here and I will pick up tomorrow. I Must sleep….:’( Why? I’m helping dad file corporate taxes tomorrow….*BARF* PSH, come save me oppa…save me…
hehe I’m an unnie… I’m an ’87er
I’m positively your oppa. I was born a few years earlier than you.
Ricky YRH are you an oppa or a dongsaeng to me? Can I still call you oppa anyways if you aren’t?
I call him oppa, and I’m the oldest one here I think, lol.
You’re my noona. I’m younger a bit.
Ricky’s a 95? I actually did think you were older than that…although I never gave a thought to how much, I just assumed mid to late twenties! I know you are in school but I had it in my head that you were a teacher for a while and were back in school.
I don’t think he’s a 95…I think he’s older than that. I think the responses are kind of out of order. Because he says he went to college, taught school and is now back at college. 95 is only about 16-17
I’m positively not a 95er.
I’m younger (a bit) than Min who is a 87er but older than Leaf (and your daughter).
You’re just a year older than my daughter, she was born Christmas of 96. My son was born New Years Eve of 79.
Oh!! You’re almost my age! I’m a 93er
Welcome!!!
So is my daughter, Leaf. May 31, 1993.
I’m May 15th
Isn’t that funny, so close!
thanks XD so am i the youngest here?
What bad advice you givin’ this chile (in my Trinidadian accent)?? Shame on you, Leaf … LOL. You are a bad influence.
Hillary – one of my favorite accents of all time. The first time I heard Heather Headley speak, I was smitten.
I know… well at least I’m not a hypocrite. I always follow my own advice!!
I’ve been 17 for 35 years here in OT-land, lol. Good luck with the schoolwork…it’s important and will make a difference later in your life. I’m sure no adult has EVER told you that before, lol.
On the other hand, schoolwork does play havoc with drama-watching time. (As I sit here trying to help my teenager with her quadratic equations in stead of watching the Moon/Sun finale….)
For that matter, work plays havoc with my drama-watching time. That includes office work and house work. According to my mother who lives with me: “Since you have found Korea, you have not been keeping up with your housework or the yard … or me or your daughter, for that matter” Which would explain why I never put on the covers for the central air units and it is now March in Chicago… LOL.
[hearing the song "Mañana" in my head]
hello OTers! Hope you all have a wonderful weekend
Take care
<3<3<3<3
Hello!
This is only my 3rd time posting here. It’s a bit intimidating since it seems so many people are regulars and know each other well.
I love Dramabeans and OT is very interesting. Now, I am wondering if anyone knows where I could watch, “Twelve Men in a Year” with subs. It looks interesting, but cannot find it anywhere with subs. Has anyone seen it? Would you recommend it? Do you know where to find it with subs?. Thanks for the info.
I guess ot can be intimidating if you don’t start early. What’s your time zone? I’m gmt-5. No one has mentioned finding 12 men in a year with subs, we’ve mostly been mentioning that it’s unsubbed, or the episodes are hard to find! are you watching anything else?
I think someone mentioned earlier in the OT that the first episode is subbed on Epdrama now.
Really? *Goes to check that*
It is ready…but better wait till more episodes are ready. i’m already suffering long waits with Glowing She, I’ve been waiting 2 weeks for ep.8 subs to come out
You’re up to ep 8 subs?
I’ve only found them to ep 5 – watching on kimchidrama.net. Viki has them, but they’re closed off to most of us.
Where are you watching GS subs?
@Cynthia: I found them with spanish subs in youtube. Ep 7 had a lot of missing subs tho. But is better than having to wait for the English ones. But I’m still waiting for 8 (and the rest, of course).
Her friend (the exwife of her exboyfriend) drives me nuts how petty, jealous, and insecure she is.
@zgznoona
nothing better than being able to watch different language subs. I have noticed subs in languages other than English have a better chance of surviving on YouTube, which is good particularly for older stuff that’s isn’t always that easily available.
@zgznoona yay spanish subs for the win
so glad I’m bilingual, still wish my Korean skills were better though so if neither languages have subs out I could just watch them raw and understand it instead of just getting a vague idea of what they’re saying.
Rats! I don’t think my 4 years of highschool French is going to help me out, here.
Guess I’ll just have to keep waiting for the Eng subs and try not to forget the plot.
@alua: maybe, but two of the spanish accounts I usually go for subs in youtube have been canceled

@Min: I wish my Korean were better too, we could watch the dramas sooner.
@Cynthia: Hopefully they’ll come out soon
Hello JadeL!
Just a few months ago in my case, could you tell?
Don’t be scared! Yes, there is a lot of regulars, but hey, we know each other because we started chatting here one fine day.
12 Men in a Year is one of those dramas going under the radar, but it’s good imo. I love the spunky heroine, and you discover all kind of interesting male “specimens”. Would like to hear what the ones writing on the OT have to say about that.
Only ep 1 is subbed for now:
http://www.epdrama.com/twelve-men-in-a-year/twelve-men-in-a-year-episode-1/
I watch the raws here:
http://www.krdrama.org/watch-korean-drama-online/watch-twelve-men-year-raw
I have the same problem. I heard that Dramafever will get it subbed eventually.
I hope Dramafever gets *everything* eventually =X Their subs are always decent (if not spectacular) and the service almost always works.
I defected to watch the most recent episodes of The Moon That Embraces the Casba or whatever, and was dismayed by the subs out in the wild. It made me appreciate how hard it must be to translate these shows—the last part of episode 18, in particular, was just a Google-Translate jumble of words :b
Yeah, 13 was particularly bad, too.
Love dramafever but nothing beats viki when the subbing team is into the story. I was pleasantly surprised that dramafever subbed SUFBB around in 24-30 hours.
True.
Viki has DH2 subbed within hours of the on-air view.
I swear I saw an episode or two of City Hunter on Netflix that had a subbed by the Viki subbing team message. The format and the team name was like City Hunter on Viki.
Does Dramafever do their own subbing or do they rely on fansubbing and other sources?
I like the Viki Subbing teams. They seam to be the best, for over all grammar, idiomatic usage, and very few, any typos. Also, like you said, if the subbing team is into the story they will have it posted in 24-48 hours. They were really fast with Wild Romance.
Hi JadeL! *friendly wave*
Hehe.. don’t worry, I’ve been a sort-of regular for a couple of years and sometimes it’s still intimidating by the sheer amount of posts that OT can have, especially if you haven’t found the golden hour for posting (I still haven’t been able to catch on to it… heh)
However everybody here’s uber nice and welcoming (just don’t take away their hubbies then they can become a bloodthirsty crowd, myself included ^^ )
@ Ahjummabunny and JoAnne: Thank you for your responses.
@ahjummabunny,(like the name btw): I’m PST. On the west coast of the USA. I guess TMIY, has not been popular since as you say has not been mentioned much and it remains unsubbed. Must look for something else.
I have been watching Shut Up FBB and love it. I am waiting for the last two episodes so I can marathon the last four eps.
I just finished watching, ‘wonderful life”, which someone recommended here and I really liked it.
I also have been watching Skip Beat. Because of this TDrama I’ve been on a drama slump. I found the concept of the drama interesting and started reading the Manga. At first, it was a guilty pleasure. I learned that “shoujo” means that it is a manga intended for teen girls. It’s been a while since I’ve been THAT. Later, it just became addicting. It’s so hilarious. I was laughing and at times crying. I finished 10 years worth of Manga in less than a month. I did not know that Manga could be so enjoyable and have such great banter and attention to small details. I’ve really enjoyed it. Absolutely much better than the drama.
Outside of this, I don’t think I have watched any tv this week. I am planning on starting ‘Save the Last Dance’. I heard that it was good and it has Eugene, whom I really liked in Wonderful Life. Let’s see how it goes.
I’m a left-coaster, too. Welcome!
@ shel: Thank you. Yay for the wild west!
OH, and I really liked Save the Last Dance. Wasn’t that JiSung? He’s one of my faves…
It is him! and Eugene and that guy from the Ojako brothers. They look soooo young. It’s hard to believe they are the same ppl. I could barely recognize JiSung there. He is very good looking there. I really like him more than in Protect the Boss. There my first thought was: He’s so short. Then again he was standing next to Jaejoong, the chances of getting noticed were very slim. IMO.
I’m in episode 3 right now. The quality is not that great in what I’ve been able to find in you tube. I like it so far. Not a lot of music in the background. It feels more like a movie than drama.
I went looking to see what site I watched it at, and I can’t find it. But the one I saw was good quality. Are you looking for English subs or Spanish (did I read up there that you speak Spanish?….I could be confusing you with someone else). I’ll keep looking and let you know. I checked my three main sites and didn’t see it.
Hello! to everyone else who has been so welcoming! I really appreciate it.
I fairly recently discovered Asian Dramas and this site. This site has been invaluable for my enjoy ment and understanding of the dramas. Talk about a difference in culture. MOst of the time, when I started watching K-dramas, I would be wondering what in the world ppl were doing. What is with ppl barely touching each other Why do the villains not look like villains?, What’s with all that carrying around in the back?, What’s in that green bottle they are always drinking?, What’s with the Oppa and Hyung?. I’ve learned all of that in this site! I’m a Telenovela baby, so the difference in the dramas it’s incredible and absolutely needs research. NOw, I’m much better in understanding and accepting.
OT, has allowed me to not feel awkward for being a fan of Asian Dramas when one is from the smallest country in Central America! Yay, for shared joys!
zgznoona and minnetter (aka min): I’ll second that, “yay, for Spanish subs”. Like it was said here, I have been able to find some dramas in YouTube only available in Spanish.
@alua: *wave back*
@Mystisith: Thanks for the link. I’ll save it and wait until more is translated. I’ll see if Viki or Drama Fever has it first. Though, I’d prefer Viki. For some reason Drama fever seems to take too much power from computer. I don’t know why.
@minnetter (aka min): Thank you for your welcome. I hope no one is married to Kim Nam Gil. Otherwise we should be fine. I’ll just enjoy the eye candy
Glad you found us at Dramabeans. Lots of very knowledgeable people here that have watched dramas for so long that they can explain everything. (Very helpful for those of us who haven’t watched k-dramas for that long.)
I think there is a handy glossary somewhere around Dramabeans too, plus some posts explaining cultural stuff. I’ve always found those super interesting.
Ahhh… just noticed: which Central American country are you from? *excited* I lived in CR for 4 years before coming to the UK in 2009…. CR isn’t the smallest Central American country but lovely to know you are from the region. Eat arroz y frijoles for me…. I miss that (and lots of other things).
@alua:We’re from neighboring neck of the woods! I’m from El Salvador. I was born and raised there before moving the the USA.
Even though I have never been there, but I’ve heard that CR is absolutely gorgeous. I love arroz y frijoles, even more when it’s accompanied by a side of platanos fritos and fresh cream. AHHHHHHHH! You just made me hungry!!!LOL
I am originally from Europe actually.
Ha! But I have been to El Salvador! My Dad had project there for a year, and since I was in CR at the time I went to visit. I was struck by how friendly and helpful people where there (more so than in CR). Oh, and loved the pupusas in El Salvador, especially the crispier ones made with rice flour! (Can’t remember what they are called just now)
@ alua: Sorry. You are from Europe. I misunderstood. Even so, you know the culture very well it seems. You just hit me over the head with your like of my favorite food EVER!. Pupusas de Arroz. Yum! They are the best thing ever. I love pupusas (I think it’s considered treason if you don’t), but pupusas de arroz are my favorite. The taste it’s subtler and you absolutely have to eat those right away or they get hard and are not that good. In the USA, as much as I’ve tried I have not found the same flavor in the ones from El Salvador. I think the way the flour is prepared from real corn and the freshly made cheese they use in El Salvador has a lot to do with the difference in flavor. It’s seems you have been lucky to be able to travel to different countries and enjoy their culture.
JadeL – Welcome from one of the regulars here. Please stop by and chat more often!!
My favorite little green bottle is called Jinro, made using rice and sweet potatoes, along with a few herbs and green tea. There’s about 5 varieties of soju I can buy in Virginia.
When somebody calls my cell phone, I like to switch between the Korean or the Japanese “Hello” depending on my mood. It always makes the person at the other end pause, especially if I don’t know who it is… [evil chuckle]
The high/low language thing really was over my head until I read the FAQ in this blog.
jajaja You are funny. I have a cousin who went to Korea for the University exchange program who gave me a taste of Soju and I could not believe I survived my first sip. I though my esophagus had burnt it’s way to my stomach!.
Talk about the difference between the dramas and the real world. I thought that it would be like taking a shot of tequila or Vodka, but that was more like what we call in spanish “Guaro” or “Agua Ardiente”. Too much. In the dramas they drink it like water, but I could not go beyond that shot. LOL.
I devoured the FAQ and pretty much all the cultural info in this blog. Thank you. It has helped me a lot. My cousin has been a lot of help too. Well, she has to bear responsibility since she was the one who introduced me to this whole new world.
JadeL I’m sort-of kind-of your neighbour right now since I’m currently living in Yucatan- anyways… when I was growing up in the US I had one neighbour who was from El Salvador, and she made the best pupusas ever… I seriously loved them
I used to work in a Mexican Restaurant and there were a few people from Yucantan. Pupusas are wonderful. Sadly, I’m a sorry excuse for a Salvadorean in that area. I don’t know how to make them. I always have to buy them.
So you are salvadoreña!!! great another Spanish speaker for the club
I had a coworker from El Salvador, she and her family were really nice.
follow alua’s advise and check the glossary and the post about cultural “stuff”, very helpful.
Good to know I’m not the only one. Spanish in my first language
Since my family in el salvador like Novelas so much, I wish they start watching the K-dramas. I don’t even watch Novelas anymore.
Thank you for the Glossary info. I’ve learned a lot from it.
Hi JadeL, *HUGS*
Don’t worry about us, just jump in and start typing/talking.
By the way, welcome!
Thank you
So many ppl here have been so very nice and welcoming. I really appreciate it. Their kindness can be felt even through this medium. I’ll join more often. It’ll be easier from now one. I’ve really enjoyed getting to know ppl here.
JadeL,
Can you come for the movie tonight (Saturday night 7:00 or 7:30 PST, aka dramabeans time)?
Sorry! I did not see this in time. I hope I can make it next week. Is this the usual time for movie night?
Thank you for the invitation. I will be sure to accept next time.
TEN seems interesting but it (and a certain link to a certain photo in ther recap of ep 2 of TEN here) has again made me desperately crave for <city HUnter Season 2. ahjusssiiiii… pink paaaants……
and Shut Up should just go on endlessly. I dont really see how they can solve everything in two episodes. unless…
a) they end with a see you in season 2
b) they end with a loop where what we have been seeing is like a realiuty show or drama offered to our bunch of broken hearts
…
lately though a site Postcrossing I have discpvered kdrama fans in surprising places like Belarus, Greenland and Togo.
I am late to the OT Party! Wahhh!
Was teaching a seminar while you guys were all having fun.
Funnily enough, in real life I wouldn’t care about being late to a party, but with the OT it’s more fun to arrive on time and be there for the whole ride!
Anyhoooo…
Drama Updates:
-Am behind on Shut Up Flower Boy Band (3 eps), just because of lack of time not because of lack of awesomeness. It’s überawesome of course, and will either watch the 3 eps this weekend or marathon everything ones the final ones air.
-Finished watching Seinaru Kaibutsutachi, which was, overall, okay. Always happy to watch Okada Masaki (he does make such lovely eye candy) and was happy he remained the upright character he had in the dorama. Well, maybe he was a little too upright. Because the baddies got away – he didn’t let them get away with their conscience, but I do wish they had been punished, because the evil and twistedness that hides in people was made pretty clear in this show. Other than the fact that I think it’s wrong for people to get away for terrible things they do, I also thought it wasn’t realistic: neither that the Chief Nurse would repent about what she did (not that quickly, no way!), nor that her sister (& husband) would become ‘normal’ essentially in an instant. Keiko was just way too twisted in her mind – obsessive and really scary in her thoughts.
Other updates:
So excited – they are screening Studio Ghibli’s Poppy Hill!!! And Himizu! And I get to set Oguri Shun in The Woodsman & the Rain! And this really awesome sounding Chinese film called One Mile Above!
-Bought a whole bunch of Asian film DVDs (to support Third Window Films Fukushima charity initiative) AND tickets for four films screening at the Terracotta Film Festival in April and am totally broke now but happy
-A friend is coming to visit me next week. Super happy because the last time I saw her was eight years ago!
That’s it.
Happy Friday/OT/drama watching/St. Patty’s Day/etc.
Oh, if anyone wants a St. Patty’s Day recipe, I made (a slightly adapted version of) this Irish apple cake and it’s awesome: http://www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2012/mar/14/dessert-st-patricks-day?INTCMP=SRCH (I recommend covering it with slivered almonds on the top)
I forgot: bought some 넬(NELL) albums. I don’t know what took me so long (I had a couple of tracks on the computer already), but I love them!
Hi alua!
If you’re broke but happy and entertained, it’s all that matters!
I jump on the St. Patrick’s Day bandwagon: I am very interested in Celtic and Breton culture, and i drink beer only once a year for that special day. I will try your recipe to go with the drink. And i will probably rewatch Feet of Flames, the gigantic awesome musical of Michael Flatley.
If i’m free this summer, i’d like to go to the Festival Interceltique Of Lorient. It’s a super mega party taking place in the all city. Big, big event, with a lot of music, food, public readings, exposures… Incredible atmosphere.
http://www.festival-interceltique.com
It’s in French, but you can translate with the Google button.
Feet of Flames!
Woot!!
In my house we call it “Feets ‘O Fire”
It reminds me of when Michael Flattley hit the scene big-time with his Irish dancing productions on PBS tv.
My younger sister and I were sitting around, enthusing about the dancing, all agoggle at the unison and straight-hopping, etc. I said, “Wouldn’t it be great to do Irish step-dancing?!”
My overly-endowed sister just looked at me and said, “But how would I explain my two black eyes at work?”
She just cracks me up.
That guy is a genius. Period. I saw a fan being interviewed on one of the DVDs, who said that her and her daughter nicknamed him”sex on legs”… That was a blast.
Seriously, a lot of guys that i admire as artists are called Michael (Michael Jackson to cite the more famous), it’s intriguing.
And Ronan Hardinan is forever in my heart with that score. One masterpiece like that and i would die without regrets.
If someone is interested, first part of the show:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxJS7Hh06_o&feature=related
Never watched Michael Flatley although I did once go to watch a Riverdance performance… I remember correctly, he originally he started with Riverdance and then went and did his own thing, no?
That festival sounds brilliant, I hope you get to go (managed to read that without Google Translate, thanks to Spanish plus high school French
)
Riverdance was his first (not bad, but he has improved so much since then…), then Lord of the Dance (producer, dancer, choreographer, musician for some tracks), then FF which is the ultimate LOTD version. It was supposed to be his show of adieu before he got retired. I saw that they recorded a 3D version of LOTD recently, but i don’t want to watch it. Let’s face it: He’s not young anymore, and i cherish my good memories. I know that he is a perfectionist, and i don’t contest his tap dance skills, but still.
Alua, if you never saw anything from him, just watch this 3 mins solo: This is something he included in the show, just to explain to the audience how he warms up before the rehearsals. Hint: How fast can you go with your feet? Bonus: How can a guy look so hot in tight leather pants?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMAgfP7t7eo
The man has also won tons of contests of Irish dance and is actually a good musician himself. Oh, I could speak about that amazing man for hours, but i will spare you.
He also holds the Guinness World record for most taps in a minute (or did).
Always found it interesting that he’s U.S. born and bred – I really believe that it was his American ‘we must be independent individuals’ way of looking at life that gave him the guts to break off from the juggernaut of River Dance to form his own dance company. River Dance refused to have anything but traditional Irish dance and Flatley wanted use more of his body on stage. Lord of the Dance really is a tremendous production and made it the phenomenon it was.
Just dropping by to say that if you’re interested in seeing some Korean Indie bands, check out 3rd Line Butterfly and Crying Nut on their Seoulsonic tour. Yellow Monsters had visa problem (don’t know if they’ll be joining later on or not).

Happy OT Fridays/Saint Patrick’ s Day
Omg I’m so upset at myself for missing out on the OT pike.
Sheesh see this is what happens when one decides to volunteer their time to others, you spend roughly two hours reading everyone’s post and not able to comment.
Any who
I’m glad that everyone has had a good/great week.
I’m so excited for the shows that will be premiering very soon. Sad to hear about my Oppa Yoochun’s father, I know the feeling, lost my mom days before my 17th birthday, the pain decreases over time.
So I finally got my freaking degree so YAY, now I can start step two and three to get to Korea!!!
So happy ^.^ I have so many plans/ events to attend and I’m not even there yet but soon y’all soon and very soon.
EveryOne Enjoy Your Weekend and Be Safe!!!
Saranghue Y’all ^.^
Congratulations! What is step two and can I fit into your luggage?
For realz. I wanna go, too.
KStyle! Better late than never! Congratulations on graduating!
Congrats!!!! Hope everything goes well and you get to Korea soon!! <3
I wanted to pop in to say that I got Never Ending Story with subs and so I’ll probably watch that this weekend. I’m going to keep picturing Jung Ryeo Won as Yeo Chi and wonder why she isn’t cursing, lol.
I’m surprised it came out so fast. Do you KNOW how long I waited for Always (Only You) to come out?! I nearly went crazy. Good thing I enjoyed that movie.
Also, just a question but how old is everyone here (it’s okay if no one wants to say, it is kind of a private question)?? I tend to feel like I am the youngest most of the times. I’d also just like to get to know everyone better
hahaha.
Oh and if anyone was wondering (I’ve been meaning to say this for a while) My name “canxi” is pronounced Candi. It’s short for my actual name. The x came about from another site where candi was taken, I am not creative with the screen names so I just used ‘x’ as a variable for ‘d’.
Hey! canxi, you read my mind! I thought today about asking for your name, because it sounded Chinese to me. Seems i was wrong on this one…
For my part, i will turn 36 next month. Time flies for sure!
Oh! Hahaha, I figured that would be the case.
I’m actually a black girl
I’m 20 but I’m sure I could pass for much younger -16 at the least. I’ll be 21 next month. I’m looking forward to going into liquor stores and possibly seeing the horrified looks of sales clerks wondering this child is their store. Muahahaa.
My real name is Candice (=
Hi! Welcome….
I think we are everything from Leaf, who is still a teenager, although barely, to a few of us that are right around my age (17 for 35 years, lol) and lots of places in between. And someone else posted upthread somewhere that she was young. So, you aren’t the only one. :0)
My 15 year old is a Kdrama fan, just not much of an OT-er. Probably best and we have a couple of people that get a little racy around here….ahem…I won’t mention any names,, lol.
*raises hand*
Lol! That’s nice to hear (:
I like the racy-ness here! I think it’s hilarious and glad I’m not the only one with those kinds of…thoughts. One of my first k-dramas was Coffee Prince and I was probably a perv about 95% of the time Gong Yoo was on screen. No shame! *runs freely*
MINE!!!!! Gong Yoo is MINE!!!!!!!!!!
Step away from the Yoo and nobody gets hurt.
Can’t I just look?? D: And breathe on??..LOL
I think everyone needs to create a list of MINES.
My numero uno “mine” is Kim Nam Gil *drool* T_T
And Joo Won *looks around*
I’m trying to mine Park Ki Woong and Lee Dong Wook too, but who knows. O:
…wait…is there a mine limit?? O__<
Nope, no limit on the MINE factor.
And as for looking… Wanna be a sucker?
http://26.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_kpgi5sycE61qzebjto1_500.jpg
Wanna be facial hair?
http://star.koreandrama.org/wp-content/uploads/2006/06/Gong-Yoo-13.jpg
I am not opposed to being a sucker in this case.
Wanna sing like a girl?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWNoLiIBkiw
@canxi
Actually I think there is an earlier thread where they listed some of the hot Korean dudes who were “MINE’d” already. For example:
JoAnne MINED Rain
Leaf MINED Kim Bum
among others…I don’t remember all of them…so might as well ask before heads start rolling! LOL…
Yeah, Kim Bum is my Boyfriend so just deal with it everyone
As long as I have Kim Nam Gil. *__*
Excuse me?
Kim Hyun Joong.
For keeps.
Period.
@Cynthia
Ah, okay! I’ll remember that the next time I watch BOF or SS501′s stuff on Youtube. I’ll just concentrate my gaze on the other dudes.
Maybe I need to start MINE-ing dudes, too. I initially thought I would MINE Taecyeon from 2pm, but then I thought how adorable he would look with SNSD’s Tiffany, even though they’re just best friends. They were really very cute on Family Outing. Must.Keep.Looking.
LOL. Pretty young ones in here! Is Leaf the only one teen in here-OT? jc how many teens are on here.
I’m 31 but I feel young at heart! ^_^
Age is just a number… all in the mind.
How old is Leaf? :>
Yeah, I still feel pretty young too. So, I agree age is just a number, I never worry about getting older. Besides, I’m always thinking I’m maturing ….and then someone makes a fart joke. Pfffft!
I do have a lot of younger friends too so maybe that’s why. They’re about to start college and they’re getting girlfriends and being taller than me when they were definitely shorter than me just last year. Nearly had a heart attack when a friend answered the phone with a new deep man-voice.
Leaf just turned 18 not long ago.
Ah, cool!
Being 18 isn’t much fun
Leaf….are you wishing you were older or younger? Or just having a bad year?
I loved 18, but I was a pretty young, irresponsible 18. I’m sure my mom worried if I was ever going to grow up.
Hmm… both?
Ha….
Well I think I consider myself old as I’ve always read books where the Heroines were 15/16 and I always felt like I’ve achieved nothing in comparison and have a very boring life (which I do). Stupid I know but that’s how my brain works.
But I also wish I was older so that I could actually enter the real world and start having a proper life and hopefully be less bored.
So yeah… I feel like I should’ve achieved more for my age yet believe the only way of achiving anything is to be older?
Makes perfect sense…
Not stupid, I know how you feel Leaf.
I felt the exact same when I was your age. It’s not much different 2 years later. “The real world” is still boring just with a lot more responsibility.
So, if you really want to achieve something work hard on it now, so it can follow you into the future. Older doesn’t always mean better and it’s not always greener on the other side but don’t worry about it too much or about growing up. Just be an 18 year old.
I think at 18, I was still not sure what I wanted to be when I “grew up”, so I just kind of blew it all off and played around. But, I had the luxury of doing that, to an extent, cuz I was living at home, only attending college part time and had enough of a part time job to supply spending money without a big investment in time.
I remember it fondly, though, probably because many of my life-long friends were made at that time. I met my hubby then, although I didn’t marry him, or even date him, until much later (long story, which I’ve told before so I won’t repeat…I have my own Kdrama story, lol). I did a lot of fun things, many stupid things, but nothing so stupid that it couldn’t be overcome, thank goodness.
18 is still young, you have a lot of years ahead of you to accomplish what you want. I would say that the majority of 18 yr olds are probably more like you than the heroines in the books.
Ha I know the real world is not great either. But I guess I’ll just have to keep thinking it is better until I actually get there and then will have to think up a new plan to be hopeful.
^sigh^ maybe one day life actually will be better? I have to believe that.
I wouldn’t mind being 18 again actually. I just wouldn’t want to do high school again. Blech.
hahahaha I’ve been thinking you were Chinese and your name was Can Xi (Can Shi).
I’m 49. I’ll be 50 on November 1st.
Hahaha, naah. I always wanted to say it but it’d be kind of random on a drama thread or something so I would put it off or forget.
& I think 50 is a great age!
I’ll let you know when I get there
My friend and I both turn 50 in 2013 and our ‘clan’ – 4 women, 1 husband, 2 boyfriends, assorted children ranging from 25 down to 8 are going to Italy that year. Well I think we decided that the children had to be at least 18 to go, because we’re not babysitting. But we’ll see. Last year one of us turned 40 and climbed Macchu Picchu to celebrate. The rest of us looked at her like she was crazy and went to the pub.
Hahahaha!
I probably would have done the same. I dunno if I could ever climb a mountain. Maybe if I never look down ever…and Italy sounds fun. I’ve always wanted to go there too.
heh… I’ve outed my age a bit above by saying the year I was born… but in plain terms I’ll be 25 in just a five months… I think I’m in the middle when it comes to OT age… but really there’s no age limit to perving ::ahem:: loving the boys in K-dramas
I like it, it’s more mature and I don’t have to worry about offending people as much if I say someone can’t act or something. It has happened a couple of times though where I have done so and I’m just like “WAAAEEE!” lol But for the most part people are nice and make me laugh.
@Minnetter
I think a lot of the popular k-drama actors/entertainers are your age. If you were born in 87, then you’re the same age as Lee Min Ho and Jung Il Woo, for example. As for me, I’m old enough to be these guys teenage mom. *sigh* Either that or a super-noona because I’m not ready to be called ajumma. hehe
ok now I have Supa-Love running through my head.
Confessing ages… I think I’ve already said it before, I’m 35. Exactly the same date as Ji Sung, I’m pretty sure his mom and mine were suffering at he same time, just in different continents.
Awe, you’re just a baby! *HUGS* zgznoona!
Hey MJP Glad to see you around again.
And why is it that I don’t feel like a baby anymore?
I read the family is doing great, nothing like the pride of having smart kids.
LOL! Being young is all a state of mind. I married someone younger than me, so I am younger too! My children are young, so I get to play like a child, which keeps me young too! See, it’s all in the mind.
Think young thoughts.
Hahaha, sounds like kdrama destiny~
That’s what I say, but I don’t think his girlfriend agrees
Thats because the girlfriend always gets ditched, she’ll be fiiiiiiiiiiine
46 in two weeks. My screen name is a nom de plume I took up years ago when I started by career as a failed artist.
I’m an artist too! Well an art student, anyway XD
So far, it appears that I’m the oldest. Bummer. Oh well…
Not at all! O:
You get top-scolding rights when everything gets crazy XD
Shel, don’t be ridiculous!
[pssst, I'm not suppose to do this, but you're my fav!]
I’m afraid I can’t scold anyone for being crazy, lol. And, I keep telling Ricky that, here in the OT, I’m only 17….that way I can call him “oppa”, lol.
And Ricky; you’re a sweetie and it’s mutual. :0)
Hey, there are a few artists in here too! 0_0
How awsome is that!
LOL don’t worry, my career as an artist didn’t happened either.
I suppose I was destined for something else!
We can always keep trying
As long as I am around art in some way I am a happy camper.
Well now I draw pictures with words, which is a heck of a lot less messy than the charcoals I used to do…
I want to pursue illustration o__o I really like using ink and watercolor
One of her friends gave my daughter this magnet when she started college (art school, photography):
Oh, so you’re an ‘artist’…
artist was in quotes and italics, it was just black print on a white ground, very simple and hilariously funny.
HAAAA! Too good.
Okay so this comment is going to be so off being so far down the list but…I’m dying right now after reading the conversation between Ricky, Ivoire, Cynthia, and Joanne (I’m pretty sure I’m missing a few names but you know who they were) about this show, which I have never seen, called Glowing She. Well actually a quote from the show Glowing She spurred a conversation that is so hilarious and completely inappropriate that I…I….just don’t know what to say. Maybe…LMBO! You guys are too much and now I can’t stop laughing. Whenever I think of ‘it’ I will think of that conversation.
Geez…even my middle school science teachers avoided that subject. You guys plunged head first and made the whole thing seem like a joke, one that I will never forget! lol
Happy Friday everyone!:)
Glad that you enjoyed our ridiculous conversation.
But really, that woman was too much. And he was blinking his eyes like mad when he heard those questions.
Happy Friday, Big Unni!
Hey Big Unni – It IS a bit surreal when you go to KDrama site and start talking about…ahem…some of the more interesting subjects of the human condition. But that’s how we roll!
I’m glad none of those scary people made you run screaming…
Glad you had a laugh, BU!
I think the ‘funny’ comes in when K-drama makes such a big deal out of a kiss, or backhug or holding hands, and yet, here’s dialogue about nocturnal emissions for boys. And more importantly, what type of clean-up is preferred.
I was as startled by this just about as much as watching Song Ji-hyo from RM doing the deed in ‘Frozen Flower’.
Hello OT. You guys are already over 660 comments! I’ve been out all day and got home a few hours ago. I heard my name from across the internet and have come obediently to your call!
I went up to Boca Raton today to get my cello fixed. I tripped over a remote that my student left lying around and the cello knocked into the corner of a chair! ACK! Luckily it’s not TOO expensive…
I also helped my friend buy a new bow and we got so excited about it we ended up reading music for three hours…
I also finally finally finished the second recap of White Christmas! And put some info on Fashion King and Rooftop Prince up.
Who’s stoked for next week in dramaland? *RAISES HAND*
I’m watching Prosecutor Princess and I wish I knew how to make aniGIFs because PSH smiling…omg…omg…
I’m getting so hyped up waiting for Rooftop Prince.
Imma wear my tracksuits and watch it!
Yeah, me too! I’m just waiting for it… patiently.
Aww, I wish I had a complete tracksuit now. I only ever get the tops to those.
RED tracksuits baby, red tracksuits. The tracksuit ghost should totally make an appearance…wait, I said I was going to bed…and I’m still here.
RICKY WILL DIE FOR MAKING ME COME ON OT WHEN I NEED TO SLEEP!
Nope, he’ll just say it was your own fault. He did it to me earlier.
=.=
RAINE! Always good see you whether you’re angry or sleepy.
Don’t hurt the Rick, though. As our primary Y-chromosome, we need to bow to the Pillow Prince even while we’re kicking his shins…hard.
I think the weapon of choice against me should be tickling. I’m very ticklish. Hehe
Yep, HRH gets away with everything cuz he’s nearly the only one we got. It helps that we love him, regardless, though.
Sorry to hear about your cello….bummer. I’m saving up to have Stan the PIano Man come do some work on my Yamaha. But the stupid cars keep falling apart, so I’m gonna have to live with it probably for a bit longer. I played yesterday for an hour…first time in over a month, but, the poor thing is in need of a good tuning.
Get some sleep and come back tomorrow. Actually, it’s 2:30 am your time, you’d better be asleep already, lol.
I used to sit on my siblings…of course now the boy weighs more than me…heehee.
Ricky, you got away with it cause I woke up cheery today, but when I wake up grouchy…RAWR!!!!! I’m getting my noona broom.
Yeah, I’m the oldest and my poor little brother got tortured a lot. I’m 12 years older, so mostly it was tickling torture. But, then that kid grew like a weed for a couple of years. At 14, he was taller than me (I’m 6′) and by 17 he was 6’7″.
I stopped torturing him. Fortunately, by then I was almost 30, so he didn’t ever try for revenge.
Don’t blame me for my persuasive tendencies.
And the fact that I’m so lovable!
[Mwahahahahahaha!
I've got them noonas in the palm of my hand!]
So I need to have you tickled in the elevator by The Harem…
No ahjumma pants, Ricky Oppa?? [pout, wiggle]
I need me some ahjumma pants these days. Can’t wear my jeans….too tough on my incision. I’ve been living in sweats and jammies.
Upside is losing a 17cm cyst and starving for a few days means that even when I can wear my jeans again, they’re gonna be too big. Yay!
YAY! My mom’s surgery caused her to lose 20 lbs and she’s trhilled! haha. I lost…1 lb! YAY! HAHA…I’m glad to hear you’re doing well.
LOL
Fashion changes all the time. It’s time for Teletubbies tracksuits now.
Hello my dear! Not sure what I’ll be watching tonight. Probably another Thai drama.
I’ve not watched a lakorn yet although i read about one on MadDino’s site, Roy Marn.
Bah! Roy Marn is okay, but there is so much more than that. Shukkie just gave me a website, so I’ll share with you some sites to check out.
http://iheartlakorns.com/completed-lakorns-weng-subs/
http://wiki.asianfuse.net/index.php/Main_Page
Just don’t hate me MJP. Ricky made me do it.
[snerk]
roy marn was alright. could have been better tho!
mjp: thannks for the site! ^^
I like Roy Mai, since it’s a Time Skip / Karma one.
Two people meet in the present with ties to the Royal Court 70 years before. That way you can see the lead and 2nd string in both jeans and boots, and silk shirts with curled-toe shoes.
There’s also a vampire one called Love Never Dies. 400-year old vamp tries to correct the curse that made him while falling in love with a beautiful curator. Guys in black always look hot!
Both are on viki. I’ve been correcting the syntax of the english subtitles and the name spelling from episode to episode on Roy Mai in my spare time, fyi.
I actually like love never die!
It’s different. I think there’s only a couple of vampire lakorns on viki.
Thai dramas and Chinesedrama are the slowest ones to get subbed unless they are really popular and good!
I’ve been helping segmenting a rom-com lakorn at viki called Jao Sao Pom Mai Chai Pee which is pretty funny so far. It’s just sad that there aren’t that many Thai subbers out there to help sub.
I think Love Never Dies will be my intro to Thai.
SANX! Just book marked those. I will definitely check them out!
I’m going to watch some dramas now! TTYL
So are we gonna do a Movie night this week? Detective K is still available!!
[looking over stash of soju, dark chocolate, and a tiny brick of tamarind, fate to be determined soon]
I will, I will. (I think….I don’t think there’s anything going on tomorrow and night and I wanna see that!)
Cool, then the Movie Noonas are on!
Good grief! Are you working tonite? Isn’t it like 3 am there?
Yeppers, running my 12-hour volunteer shift at the rescue squad – a lot of stupid drunken behaviour, until about 0300 hours, then ended up with a 90-year-old fall victim for my final patient.
I did manage to sleep about 3 hours during that time, but I won’t call myself the most chipper person out there. LOL.
Currently 0834 hours EST.
I was up until 1, then had to get up at 5 am. My daughter was going to a church Youth Conference, but it’s up in Oakland….90 miles away, so they were supposed to meet at 6 am for carpooling.
So, did she make her ride? Is the house nice and quiet?
The house is VERY quiet, lol. Except for her dad here on the couch, snoring. He had to take her to her ride, I’m still not allowed to drive. But, it’s only 9 am, if she was here, she’d still be asleep.
I’m just uploading pics to hubby’s photography site, and watching Dal Ja while I wait for my SLOW internet.
What time? I’m going to ZGZ noonas side of town for Korean food and kdrama awesomeness!
We usually do 7 or 7:30 PST or PDT or whatever T it is right now, lol. 10:30 your time, I think.
Raine, I think we can make it
