Happy Friday, peeps!!
- Finished reading Divergent . I kinda liked it more than The Hunger Games in terms of the characters. I think the lead female is bada$$!
- Halfway through TDrama “Romantic Princess”.
- Watched the first 4 epis of RTP and I am thoroughly engaged.
- Watched the first 2 epis of K22H, and, eh, not so much.
- Watched “Beastly” which is a 2011 adaptation of The Beauty and The Beast story. I enjoyed it and thought the Beast makeup was an interesting variation.
And the important info:
- Posted 6 chapters / 3000 words of The Prince and His Harem, including THE KISS. I hope everyone thinks it a visual Rodin.
Happy Friday indeed!
I was wondering if The Hunger Games would make an appearance on one of these posts. It is awesome.
Loving RFP!
Hey Kayleigh! I haven’t seen the movie but it’s scheduled for this Monday.
From a book point of view (of all three), I couldn’t really root for Katniss. It was a good read, but not one I’ll ever reread.
Happy Friday!
You couldn’t root for Katniss? Why?
She reminds me of the scene from “Men In Black” – everyone else shoots everything in sight, then J does one single, final shot.
I felt like her character was more reactive than proactive for all three games, and only stepped to the plate after most of the generalized danger was past and the only thing left was danger directed specifically at her.
Especially by the time we got to the third book.
Hey Shukmeister! I get what you said about Katniss keeping her role in the killing spree to a minimum but that was probably a choice made by the author to avoid us having to cheer for someone who kills with ease.
Haven’t read the third one yet but I will get to it (even if it’s by God’s own intervention).
We saw the Hunger Games last weekend, it was awesome! I thought it was very well done, and really liked the actors they picked for the leads. Totally worth sneaking out of the house for (I was still supposed to be staying home, lol)
I saw it last weekend, too! I liked it quite a bit, even though I hadn’t read the book(s).
Hello Shuk! Happy Friday for you also!
Will read this Sunday!
Last time I checked your fanfic, there were 26 chapters. Yesterday I checked again (with all those great dramas everywhere I hope you can forgive me…) and I almost fell from my chair: 38!! It’s becoming a full length novel! Thanks writer
Hey Myst! Yeah, the creative muse was not only whispering in my ear, we were doing love shots together – lol.
@ Shukie,
Mbolo! on ne voy? (how are you? But literally it means: “are you well? “)
I read the fan-fic chapters 19-30 last week and I didn’t find anything to be upset with you about, which surprised me, because you had told me that I would be angry at you. I kept expecting something bad that I wouldn’t like but I didn’t see it, unless I missed it.
This is what my understanding was: Ivoire found out some things that were bad/suspicious and reported them to her boss (did he then act accordingly [to protocol in those instances, I didn't think so. Am I wrong?]). Her life became in danger so she left France and went to Malaysia (I think?) and is followed there, right? By Mysti, (among other people) and has to watch over her shoulder. Did I get it right?
If anything, I thought it was mysterious, had some danger, adventure and some angst because by chapter 30, we don’t know what will happen to Ivoire. So again, tell me (please) why I would be upset with you?… Or were you being sarcastic and I didn’t get that? (That happens sometimes with me…). I hope you know (knowing what you know of me and of my background) that I do like some adventure, so the fact that Ivoire is going to places I have yet to go to (and does things I wouldn’t know how to do), is great in my book, and I mentioned that in the last OT (remember?).
I would also say that your writing is very evocative. One can very easily picture/imagine what you are writing. I bet that Kiss scene is something, (knowing you) and I will tend to believe the comment Cherkell wrote here:
1.4.1.1 cherkell March 30th, 2012 at 7:21 am
I am just saying
!
Hey Iv!
** spoiler alert!! **
Chapter 16 – You are wearing a bangle bracelet when you email the incriminating evidence at the Nice airport.
Chapter 25 – You’re hiding out in Bangkok and you get an email from Myst stating “they” have tracked you down and they want that file.
Chapter 30 – The body of a dark-skinned woman is found behind a buddhist temple in Bangkok, strangled with a wire, wearing a bangle bracelet.
Chapter 32 – Thai authorities identify the body, and contact your office since they don’t have any next of kin information.
Chapter 35 – Meaghan finds out and promises to discover your killer(s).
@ Shukie,
I AM KILLED?!!!! CHINCHA???? Awww Shukie, Ok, now I can be upset with you! But why???? (is there even a logical and compassionate explanation for why Ivoire is killed?). That’s sad….
So, I have one question for you: how many chapters is your fan-fic and am I even in 1/2 (of the chapters) of the fan-fic?
I am going to go, sit in the corner, while I grieve the loss of Ivoire. I miss her already
Sorry, Iv.
Your information is crucial, so the sacrifice isn’t in vain. Plus, you’re just the first one; you will have company.
–
The problem was, when I started the story, you’d hadn’t been on an OT thread in about 4 or 5 weeks, so your original incarnation was a voice over the phone never to be heard from again.
I expanded on it, but it was hard to 3-dimensionalize the character. I compromised by making you one of the linchpins that will break the case open and possibly prevent an environmental disaster.
As for chapters, I have no idea, since I’m off my original premise by quite a bit. I’ll just write until it’s finished. It’s more than 1/2 way, though.
Please don’t hate me too much!
SHUKIE,
“the sacrifice isn’t in vain” and the more important one “You are just the 1st one, you will have company” LOL, is that supposed to make me feel better? CHINCHAROO? (who ever feels better when their character is killed?) (do I get some kind of brownie points for being the 1st one to die?) (Yay, Ivoire, take one for the team…). Don’t you know we all want longevity? We wont get it in real life, so getting it in a story would be great. That being said, it is your fan-fic, write as you wish.
I didn’t understand what you said in your 2nd #. Did you mean to say that when you thought of my character, I had been on OT for only 4 or 5 weeks or that I HAD NOT BEEN on OT for 4 or 5 weeks (thus making it hard to figure out who I was, although I would say that considering how much I have been writing and been open, one could easily figure me out)? Because I think I have been a regular since I started participating on OT. Please clarify…
My other question is: what does it mean to dimensionalize (explain as if I am 5 or 7) and what is a “linchpin?”
I still have to go process Ivoire’s death and grieve her. She was a great person you know, very warm and caring, I think you would have like her if you met her.
Ivoire -
It would have been the Jan / Feb timeframe; you disappeared from the OT thread for several weeks in a row. I think you were talking about a live-in nanny position but the woman wasn’t comfortable with it.
When you came back to us and ultimately asked to be added to the fan-fic, your character was already established as the email-only contact in France.
“Dimensionalize” – Since you were going to be a long-distance contact with Meaghan, your original character was the equivalent of “just this guy I know”, a sort of walk on / walk off construct.
Like the doctor in a KDrama who only has the role to talk to the family before the surgery, then come back out a second time to say if it was a success or not, and never be heard from again. That was your original character sheet.
By “linchpin” I mean the key to the discovery of the whole corporate espionage / act of terrorism plot.
The actual definition of a linchpin is: A person or thing that holds something together : the most important part of a complex situation or system.
Shuk,
I have to go, so I will comment on your post later.
Hi Shukie,
I had been wanting to respond to the comments here but didn’t manage to do it in time. I like to respond to comments, so I can have “closure” for lack of a better term.
You know, I was being dramatic when I reacted here, this being a blog for Kdramas and all. In reality, I was not angry that Ivoire was killed, I thought it was for the best. She served a purpose and once that was done, there was no need for her to be in the story. I just thought I would be dramatic like some of the characters in our kdramas. I just wanted to mention that, because I didn’t get a chance to say it. And I agree with you, I was the one who asked to be added to the fan-fic, although, as you mentioned later, you had already included me as a small (passing) character.
Also, I went back and checked and I just wanted to bring a little clarification: the first OT I participated in was OT # 219 on Dec. 23-2011. I have participated in all of them so far, except for OTs # 223 and #224. So that was just a couple of OTs and not a few, as you mentioned. At the time, I was looking at being a companion (not a nanny) for an older lady and living at her home. I decided to not do it. It would have restricted me in other ways.
Oh, also @Shukmeister,
I forgot to add that OT #223 was on Jan. 20-2012 and OT # 224 was on Jan. 27-2012. I asked to be added to the fan-fic on OT #225 which was on Feb. 3rd-2012. By that time, I had already been a character in your fan-fic and because I asked to be in it, you expanded a bit on my character. Thank you for doing that.
Hey, Shuk, thanks for the heads up when you got that posted, and thanks for an enjoyable read.
Go Rickie!
Great … I have weekend reading to do.
I’m loving RTP as well (only watched the first two episodes so far, can’t wait to watch the next two).
Haven’t tried K2H heart…
Shukie — Happy Friday!! Thanks for the new chapters… and THAT KISS!! Omo omo omo omo omo!! The thoughts running through my brain right now could make a sailor blush. That was your intention, ne?
I wanted to write what I think a KDrama kiss could be, so I’m glad you liked it. [pure innocent look] nothing more. really. promise. lol.
Your mouth to a typical KDrama writer’s fingers, my dear… that was definitely not a normal chaste closed-mouth no-emotion-shown kiss! (Although we have been blessed in recent shows with some actual decent lip-locking. YUM.)
It just has to be said… [snerk]
I shall give my verdict on which trilogy is better when Insurgent and Detergent are released.
I feel so guilty for not following the fanfic. I will do so soon.
Why is K2H not working for you?
Happy Friday, Shukie!
Ricky!!! My male muse!!! Just knowing you actually have time to stop by makes us all aglow! It’s always much more fun (funner? funnerest?) when you can find time to join us on OT.
How are your classes going? Any news on the RL romance front?
Aww, you sweet-talker!
Everything is going fine. I’m coping better than some of friends but I’ve got to get the engines running more intensely since the finals are coming.
RL romance front?
Yep, that is non-existent.
Ricky-oppa! We missed your royal self last week, a lot.
As far as RL romance goes, worry about school right now. If romance hits now, you’ll have a hard time keeping up. You’re still young. Good luck on the finals!
But, we’re all gonna will you/pray you/whatever that there is a great girl out there somewhere that will show up not too far into the future.
Thanks, Shel.
As of this moment, I manage to curb the pangs of being lonely. But watching people fall in love is really not helping (darn those Kdramas!). I’m happy though. Don’t you worry.
Detergent?
There’s a 4th volume, called Lysergent, where they all go on a trip.
Probably only Shuk will understand the joke there, but I’m laughing.
I googled but I couldn’t find any definite answer. All I got were LSD and lysergic bliss.
Ricky – When you get high on LSD, it’s called “tripping”.
Hmm, how does JoAnne know this…?
ARe you kidding?…. she’s a child of 70′s, like me. I never did drugs, but had plenty of friends who did.
Maybe coz JoAnne was quite fond of taking trips in her past. LOL (Just kidding)
Ahh, thanks for clearing that up. I love it when I get to learn more American-speak.
I’m sorry, but if you can remember the ’70s… you didn’t do *enough* drugs.
Hiya Ricky oppa!! *waves* You were sorely missed here last week — glad to hear your absence was school-related and not Meaghan-related. Tee hee…
LOL *waves at cherkell*
Luckily I think I was single digits in the 70′s.
Otherwise I might have learned that it’s better to lick the frog than to kiss it – LOL.
Well…I was truly a kid in the ’70s (turned 18 in 80) so I don’t have PERSONAL experience with some of the more psychadelic aspects of that decade, but I do remember the music and the hippies vividly from the 60s and the 70s, since I lived in a beach town and all the college kids rented the houses back behind mine – let’s just say when I smelled pot to know what it was in highschool? I realized I knew that smell from when I was tiny. And then too, my dad was a cop, so I had a strong education in drugs as both a preventative measure and as information picked up from eavesdropping on his stories told to my mom after we were upstairs in bed.
LOL JoAnne!! I’m all THC over that one!!
The fifth book is where everything evolves similarly. It’ll be called Convergent.
lol
Divergent, Insurgent, Detergent, Lysergent and Convergent.
Sounds like a bestselling series to me
More awesomeness to read
:D
Thanks for that little present, and kiss scene here I come!!!
@shuk OMG I need to catch up on your story!!!!
:D I go after OT…which may take a while.
@Alua HELLO! It feels like it’s been ages!
@Mystisith Bonjour! Happy Friday!
@ricky I will have to try Divergent after Hunger Games which my best friend told me I just HAD to read
I was wondering where you were last week Raine! I’ve been around, you haven’t!
I know! *shame* I’ve had an extremely long week. I guest conducted an orchestra at a middle school yesterday and later I taught a student who is in the orchestra and she told me that the kids thought I was “awesome” and “really cool”. I just about died. I had NO idea what they thought ’cause they seemed uninterested to me, but apparently they were!
Yea, Raine! Sending you some happy Nodame Cantabile vibes your way!!!
What was that movie with Meryl Streep and…was it Gloria Estefan? A few years ago. Same thing.
It’s good.
*suddenly imagines locking 20 women in a stadium and asking them to fight like in Hunger games*
[Suddenly rethinking the Meaghan character to a tough-as-nails scarred homicidal nihilist].
*shivers in fear*
Be careful what you wish for – MWAH HA HA HA.
Actually, I was thinking – should I include a blog entry showing all the OT tidbits / KDrama tropes I’m weaving into the story?
I don’t know if that would take away from the reading or not. I’ve started tracking them so I can remember the source of so many sparks of creativity.
That would be so awesome! I’m always curious to know about how and where writers get their ideas from. It would be good to see yours, too.
I don’t think it’s bad thing. Case in point: Fans wanted to know every single detail about Rowling’s inspiration when she wrote the Potter series.
@ Shukie,
I 2nd the blog entry showing the OT tidbits. I think Ricky explained well why it would be a good thing to do it. I am curious as well to know how/where your creativity comes from.
Iv –
A lot of it actually comes from the conversations here. I pick up on a word or phrase and see in my head how to incorporate it into the wording of the story.
I’ll go ahead and post it. I couldn’t identify all the OT inspirations, but hopefully everyone will recognize them.
I won’t post the character list, though, because I don’t want to telegrap h who are the good guys and who are the bad guys.
You creative writing types (I’ve never taken a single class, by the way) probably can understand it better than I can articulate it.
I am an avid reader, starting in elementary school when I was pulled out of regular English class in 5th grade (11 years old) to an advanced one where I read a book from a list and then would write a synopsis of the story.
I also have one of the shortest attention spans known to man, but a curiosity that only expands when it’s fed. So I research a lot of subjects, trivia, history, and all that crap picks a neuron to ride on.
So when I have a project that needs creativity (programming, graphic design, writing), I travel internally and find concepts or objects or whatever that ‘glow’ in my head. I pull them out, examine them, and fit them into the puzzle of my projects.
So in the case of this fan-fic, which is very different than any other writing I’ve done, I read the OT’s and look for those ‘glows’. I then matrix them in an Excel spreadsheet, and check them off as I find them a home in the story arc.
It’s both that simple and that complex for me.
I also tend to drop things once I’ve tried or mastered it. I made nasi lemak during an OT Friday (#226). I’ll probably never make it again, although I have used both the coconut rice and sambal in different ways since then, and included it in my book as an OT inspiration.
I hope my explanation helps.
@ Shukie,
Your explanation did help, thank you! So, do you write with the intent of being published? What do you do, once you are done writing a particular piece/book? Do other people get to read the final project?
I write just because I like to. The only “publishing” is to take my completed works, convert them to pdf and e-reader files, and email them to my friends who want to read them.
As for Rickie, since most people outside my chingus here would never understand the character names, OT shout outs, and references, I’ll probably make it into one file for anyone who wants it here, but I won’t distribute it to my usual group of friends. They’re going to have to wait when I resume the book I dropped in favor of this one:
- Antique furniture restorer finds her grandfather’s WW II love letters to a girl not her grandmother; and volunteer fire fighter whose grandmother tracks down her WWII first love using the internet. It’s a multi-generational romance. I’ll pick it back up after Meaghan and Rickie finish their KDrama.
I see… (about who you would let read for the Rickie story) and your purpose behind writing.
The story about the antique restorer sounds interesting. Brings to mind, Love Rain, the Kdrama.
I don’t know Love Rain, but I’ll look it up. Thanks!
Shukie,
I mentioned Love Rain because I think it is a multigenerational romance as well (I think?) and it started this week on KBS and it has JGS as its lead. Dramabeans did a recap of episode one and wrote some posts about it. You can find it here.
The setting is otherwise different (and the people are) but Love Rain is what came to my mind when I read the description of your other work. That’s all. I am not saying that I think it is close or the same as your plot/story.
With your writing, it sounds like you do research a lot? (for the background of the story, the characters, etc…) You must really like doing research? and maybe enjoying learning in the process?
Ivoire -
Yeah, I love the research aspect of it. I like my fiction to still sound plausible and authentic.
Collecting trivia is something I enjoy doing.
For instance, the “LVAD” mentioned in Best Love does kind of exist in RL, but it actually includes an external battery pack that weighs approximately 7 lb.
This month’s Popular Science magazine had an article on the next generation of LVAD’s based on the Archimede’s screw design that’s used all over the world for irrigation purposes.
So a KDrama has a link to a magazine I enjoy reading, and an ancient design for moving liquids from one place to another. I looooove finding links like that!
I ordered it from Amazon last week since I wasn’t ever gonna get to the library. Figures the Dr’d “spring” me this week.
Ricky—oppa! LOL Good to see ya. 20? dang, that I’ve got to see!
Happy Friday all! Going shopping. ^^ Be back later to read OT.
Your name will be first on the list. You’ll get to experience it yourself.
Have fun shopping, cv!
I finnished Divergent during a whole night. I liked it a lot, up until the “battle” which I dont think was so well written. And thats probably why I like THG much more, Collins is a much better writter, I believe. Still, cant wait for the next book
)
The battle was kind of rushed – but yeah, I think I read the entire book in maybe 5 hours. Couldn’t stop turning pages. LOVE Tris and her self-honesty.
yeah i also really like tris!!! i wish the writer create more “mature” battle scenes in the next books :p
The books made me incredibly sad (as most dystopian settings do) so I’m trying to stay away from the movies until I need a good cry. Anyone else not as “hyped” about the Hunger Games as they “should” be?
Hey Shuk.
- Happy Friday to you too.
- I wish you the best of luck with Romantic Princess.
- I watched Beastly and I thought it was interesting. It made me think of the Persian version of the Beauty and the Beast I read eons ago. I don’t know why since it was very different, but I think it has everything to do with that damn rooftop(?) garden the “Beast” created. It was an enjoyable watch, despite it being nothing new. I had to look up the Wiki page for it since I forgot the ending, which says something about the movie being enjoyable at the time but easily forgotten. Heh. I’d sit through it again if someone wanted me to watch it with them because it’s harmless fun. X)
- Will read your latest installation(s) for your writing over the weekend.
Ani!!
Yeah, I really liked the imbedded metal in his head, not that I would do that at my age, but still, it would make a fashion statement at the AARP meetings – lol.
The only thing that bothered me about the rooftop garden is him destroying it during his pout session. Oh, and fridge logic regarding – why didn’t she just show back up at the townhouse and demand her old room back?
Shukkie!!!!!! *HUGS*
Good to see you this fine, albeit cold Friday morning!
MJP!! Happy happy! We are in the 60′s here.
How’s the family? New MJP still meshing well?
The family is good. Today the cat is vomiting up blood, but due to picking the kids up from school, the appointment isn’t until 3:40 p.m.
Yes, Kteen is doing very well and is a great fit into our family. We just love him to bits! We actually correspond with his parents too, which is amazing. They are wonderful people, very loving.
Kteen now, is growing like a weed! He came here in January at 6.1feet (186.5cm). I saw that his pants are looking way to short at the ankle and we measured him with a tape measure a couple of days ago. He is now at 6 ft 2.61 in (189.5 cm). Yes, he has grown a cm a month!!!
His waist is 27 inches and his pant length is 33/34 inches. Try finding that size anywhere! He wears 28 inch pants at 30/32 inches and walks around showing socks!
He and MJP Hubby watch the Brittish drama Dr. Who every night after Wee MJP goes to bed and have their bonding time. All three of them play ping-pong together every day. Kteen helps me translate those “Gotta know!” parts of the kdramas, so I’m really blessed! He wants to watch Rooftop Prince and King 2 Hearts with me this weekend. I’ll rewatch them just for the bonding time.
Wow the 60′s! That’s nice. It was 35 this morning and now it’s climbed to 48. I had Wee MJP in a spring jacket this morning going to school but he was freezing, so I have to bring his winter coat when I pick him up.
Which… I’m late and have to go since it’s 11:33 a.m.!!!
Hopefully, I’ll be back later.
Shukkie, don’t forget to tell me all your latest news!!!
Can you adopt me so we can all watch dramas together? Hehe..
Aside from dramas, he and I can talk about our similarities. His waist is 28 inches, mine is 28 inches too..
I’m not sure if I’d be a very good hyung though.
I love hearing stories about your family, MJP!
He sounds like my beanpole….she is 5’8 now…grew 3 inches per year for the last two years. She now wears a size 0 tall, and those are getting short, but a 1 is too big around. I took her to Forever 21 where they sell women’s jeans in waist/lenghth (which they should do everywhere, btw…or maybe hip/length)…and she got like a 24/34. That’s the same inseam as me, only she’s still four inches shorter. She’s all legs.
The funniest…..a couple of years ago, we were at the beach and she was wearing some long shorts….just above her knee a couple of inches. As she walked away, I noticed the pockets had little cherries embroidered on them and I remembered that I bought some capris like that for her when she was about 7. I had her come back and I looked at the tag and it was a 6X!!! Her butt was still a 6X when she was almost 14! She definitely did NOT get that from my side of the family, lol. She finally grew a bit of hips, so they don’t fit anymore. But she does only weigh about 105 lbs on those 5’8″ bones.
Ricky TRH *HUGS*
Of course I can adopt you, but you’ll have to wait until we can buy a bigger house if you want to live with us. But if you still want to live on your own and just come over to crash, you are now adopted into our family!
How is the Queen Mother and the King Father? The rest of the royal family? School? Oh, what to do, I want to read all your details, but I have to go clean my kids bum! LOL!!!
Shel *HUGS*
I’ll write more later!
Ricky, I’ll be your “foster” mom until she adopts you. We have lots of room, and then I’d have a Kdrama buddy. :0) Maybe you can help wean my teenager off of anime and onto more Kdrama. She watches a few things, but not much.
@ MJP
My parents are good. They mailed some stuff to me this week and it felt good to smell the scent of home on the clothes.
@ Shel
Your daughter is 15, no? I’m not if I can wean her from anime. I watch some too.
You guys should compare notes….although she’s finding that the anime she enjoys is not the same as the anime her guy friends like.
I liked Divergent much better, also. Cannot WAIT for the second book. Tris and Four, Hwaiting!
I’ve been wanting to read Divergent. I’m going to start it right after I finish the Hunger Games trilogy. I can’t wait to read it.
Happy Friday Shuk!
I (still) haven’t read the Hunger Games yet, but I am planning to go see the new movie. *excited*
I checked out all three new Wed/Thurs dramas and I like all of them! Sleep, farewell! Think I like Equator Man and King 2 Hearts better than RP, but RP makes me laugh.
Whimsey!! Glad you could make it to OT! I’m holding off E/M for now, but will probably retry K2H based on the comments here.
I haven’t slept yet. I was going to aroun noon here but my rescue radio called out for a bicyclist struck by a car in my neighborhood, so I jumped in Atilla and rendered assistance until the ambulance got there. So, so far I’m just wide awake.
RP has become a must-watch for me, especially with the fast subbing.
Have a good Friday!
Hi Shukmeister, Happy Friday!
_I’m a fan of the Hunger Games, but I’ve heard so many good things about Divergent, that I want to read it too.
_I watched and then dropped ‘Romantic Princess’. It surprisingly had me watching the first 6-7 episodes in two days and then a twist made me not be as interested. I hope you like it.
_ I read Beastly and liked it much better than the movie. I wonder if I would have enjoyed the movie better, had I not read the book. The book was really good. It was an excellent re-telling. In the movie I really liked the make up as well.
Enjoy the rest of your day.
Hey JadeL!
I didn’t know it was a book – I heard about the movie first. I’m up to ep 5 of RomPrincss, so I haven’t hit th twist yet. Now I’m scared! lol
Thanks for the wave!
I went ahead and posted my spreadsheet for the fan-fic on my blog. FYI!
Patrick Starr boxers, Nutella, hot tub…
DAEBAK!
@Shuk: Some of the paragraphs in your 6 chapters had me blushing and grinning from ear to ear while I AM IN THE OFFICE … LOL. Just finished the last chapter and eagerly awaiting more.
Good morning everyone and happy OT! I hope you will all have a great and enjoyable weekend!
Ivoire!
Mbolo!
Jambo!
Ohayo gozaimasu!
Selamat pagi!
Good morning!
Ummm, aren’t you missing one here?

Great minds think alike
You got that right!
Alua ROTFLMAO!
I mean, we ARE on DRAMABEANS (= K-CENTRAL).
Ahhh, y’all are right. Must have put too much French Vanilla in my decaf.
Cherkell – you are so cute
Shuk – no such thing as too much french vanilla.
zgz – buenas unnnniii!
alua – nice save.
“Hola chingu” is still my fave.
I just don’t get mentioned anymore at all, do I.
SOME little sister.
@ JoAnne
*rolls eyes*
@Raine I miss you chingu
it would be actually 좋은 아침, no?
Since she’s saying good morning
any ways, buenos dias a todos
Well, I don’t know how to say “good morning” in Korean so I just said “hello”…… but you’re probably right!
Plus it’s 3 p.m. for me…..
How about if I just wave – I promise to use all my fingers!! lol
I like the way My Precious tweets his daily waking-up as 굿모닝♡ (“gusmoning” — a noble attempt at English). ::sigh::
Καλησπέρα, from Greece. Since its afternoon already… xD
Yahsoo, p3rk3le!
I have a bestie who was originally from Greece; this year I’m bringing a marble egg to her Easter dinner – I’m determined to win the egg game!!
γεια σου

Ivoire! *HUGS*
Good Morning! What about you? Any plans for the weekend?
MJP!!! *HUGS BACK*
Yes, I do have plans for this weekend. This evening I am going (more like late afternoon that will turn into night time) to my church to watch an awesome play/musical with some guests. I will do the same thing on Sunday late afternoon because I will have other guests (including a Korean family whose husband used to be a musical director at a Korean church, so I know they will LOVE the play/musical. I am just that confident). I am really looking forward to this. Every year, my church presents a play (with a different script) about the life of Jesus leading up to his death and his resurrection and they are so good!! There are about 160-200 actors/actresses, and as many people behind the scenes doing the costumes (the way people in Israel dressed in those days, and the Roman characters are portrayed as well, in full costumes. I always take pictures, because it is so well done), the make-up, the lighting, sound, special effects (such as smoke coming from the ground, etc…). The musical score is played by our church orchestra and recorded and played in different scenes and there is a lot of singing and (dancing) in between by very talented singers (both male and female) that just take you to another world. The acoustic in the main room (the sanctuary) is really good, so that helps a lot.
Anyway, I always get excited because I know how hard everyone involved with this project works and it shows. I LOVE the diversity of the cast ethnic wise (Asians, Black people, Islanders, Whites, etc… We really have all kinds at my church) but also age wise. We have young children (sometimes babies if needed) to older people and everyone else in between. There is also a scene with a live donkey (no kidding) and some lambs (one year, one of the lambs kept “baa, baa, baa” through a scene [it was supposed to be quiet], that was very funny).
It is really an awesome quality show, and I am not saying that because it is my church. Last year, we were featured in one of the newspapers and the (free) tickets go fast because the (yearly) show is becoming more and more popular. Our church seats about 2,500 people and every performance is always full.
My guests this evening are: Mexican Americans and Caucasian Americans. My guests on Sunday are Korean Americans (they have a 13 year old), a Cameroonian High School acquaintance, and my Vietnamese American downstairs neighbor. Next Friday, my guests will be: Samoan Americans, Caucasians and I don’t know the rest because I haven’t met them yet (they are coming with the Samoan and the Caucasian ladies). I am expecting at least 12 people next Friday. I say, the more the merrier. I am excited for all of my guests to be coming!!! This is my 5th year going to these performances (and having multiple guests coming to different performances, and I always go when they go). Last year, I had 30 guests and I went to 4 performances. They were all great! So far, I have never had a single person regretting coming to see the play. It is just that good!!!
They have 9 performances this year and I can’t wait for my guests to experience what’s in store for them. I was hoping that Cherkell would come but she is on call 24/7, so I won’t have the pleasure to play hostess to her
I also love the fact that the performances are all free and are all done by volunteers (both the cast and the crew). No one gets a penny and we don’t ask for donations. I have been told that the cast and crew become like a big family because they spend so much time together, between the rehearsals, building the set together, eating together etc…
Another thing I might have to do this weekend (besides going to church on Sunday morning for the service) is tutor French to my 14 year old student. Other than that, spend time at home, cleaning and organizing. The weekend will be going fast and will be busy.
Thank you for asking MJP, now you got an answer, didn’t you
? What about you? Any plans for the weekend?
@Ivoire: You are United Nations Central all by your little ole’ self, aren’t you … LOL. It sounds fun.
Good morning Hillary,
How you be this morning? I LOL at your comment, but you are right I am the United Nations Central and I LOVE IT!!!! It helps me meet people and when they come, we have a great time together. Last year a Nurse Assistant I was working with (when I was a caregiver) came with his wife, his mother, his daughter, her two children, his sister, brother-in-law and their two children. As you can imagine, they had a great time and they took me to a Mexican restaurant afterwards. The food was great and plentiful! I had fun practicing my Spanish with the grandmother (she was really sweet) and with his wife. We all would not have had such an experience if I had not invited them and stucked my hand out.
Same with the Vietnamese neighbor. I just recently met her in this new building I am living in for two months and I went to her door to invite her. My roommate had told me they knew each other, so I thought “What the heck, what do I have to loose?” Turns out nothing really, as she called me back a couple of days later (she tried to invite a work colleague, guess s/he said no) and said she was coming. I went to see her that day (last Tuesday) to bring her the ticket and ended staying at her place for 3hours doing what else… *talking
* are you even surprise at this point?
It was great though. We have the French thing in common (and she has traveled a lot and has been to France), and she is going through some transitions, so we had a lot to talk about (which I LOVED of course, because that is how I bond).
We talked relationships (I am always up for that!!!! and I am a very good listener and I am wise, so I am a good person to talk to), work, family (she has a great family and friends) and we decided that we will leave the rest (of other topics) for later. She LOVES to cook, so we are supposed to get together for a meal (that we will cook) and also get together to go to a Vietnamese restaurant, which I am looking forward to.
Same with the Samoan lady: she is the manager of our apartment complex and I went to her office to discuss some bill I wanted to pay for my roommate who is away. I ended telling her about the play and she is coming with other people. The neat thing is that we have an AMAZING Samoan singer who works with the Children Ministry at my church. That guy is honestly gifted with his singing and his voice carries. I had a guest last year who is a soprano opera singer professionally and she WAS IMPRESSED with the quality of the singing and the play in general. We have had people tell us that it is like a Broadway show (the quality of it and the scope), except it is free and in my book, nothing beats free, especially in this economy. So, I am excited for the Samoan lady to see him sing (and she is too) and this past Monday, I went back to the office and talked to her boss about the play and she is now also coming (next Friday) with her colleague and there are bringing people with them, Yay!!!
People see how excited I get, but they also see how genuine I am. My own standards are high (very high), in how I do things and in how I see things. I would not trumpet something I didn’t believe in. I don’t want people wasting their time on something they would not enjoy, that would be insulting, and so far, that has NEVER happened and this is my 5th year. I always tell people, “Please, give me a little bit of your time with this, and if you don’t like it, you don’t have to come next year” (which is true, I couldn’t make them come next year even if I wanted to). I have also invited my Indian/Pakistani (something along those lines) next door neighbors to come and they are interested, but the wife is busy because it is tax season (she works with H&R Block), so we will see.
Every one at my church is very professional, from the ushers to the greeters, the medical team on call, the people in charge of catering for the actors/crew, the people at the information desk, the people in charge of child care, etc… There are just so many people involved in so many different ways. And when one serves there in some capacity, it helps to get to know people better because it is a big congregation, so you definitely see some people on a regular basis when you serve or/and take classes and it helps in feeling like you belong, because you see people in a smaller setting.
I credit my mother and my upbringing (being the oldest and the one always responsible for others) with how easily I approach people. My mother is the same way and I have witnessed her in action many a times (professionally and otherwise). She really is gifted with people and work well with different communities. She has a heart of service (and she does a lot for others) and she knows how to bring people together. I learned it from being around her when I was growing up.
I am not afraid of rejection because I think people have a right to say no, for whatever reasons. It won’t (literally) kill me. I also know that it is not about me (because really… it isn’t) and that helps with my feelings not being hurt.
I talked to a lot of people, from the bus driver when I take the bus to whoever I am currently working with and dealing with if I deem it appropriate. I have had a bus driver, a Japanese student, some philipinos nurses (and their families), my bank manager and vice-president etc… come to the play and it is interesting over the years how diverse my guests are.
It is interesting when I approach bus drivers (especially the men) because I open with “are you free this (whatever days)” and I get this look on their face that says “are you trying to date me?” LOL. So I have to quickly say :”No, it’s because there is this play at my church etc… and you can bring people with you” and I usually give them a postcard of the play with all the information. I am seriously not hitting on them.
I was once inviting one bus driver to the play and upon seeing how enthusiastic I was, he asked me “do you work for public relations at your church?” to which I said “no.” With a serious face, he said, “you should, you would be an asset.” I had never thought about that. It made me smile. Cynthia told me once that I was very enthusiastic and open and that’s true, I am easy to read, if one pays attention.
Thank you, Hillary for your kind comment. I have always enjoyed being in a United Nations type of setting. I end up learning about others and about myself through the questions I am asked and the things I am made to ponder. When I was growing up I wanted to work at the UN as an interpreter or something like that. Now, as long as I am in a diverse environment, I am happy (really), and I get plenty of that at my church. I have met and made friends with not only other Africans but also with people from other parts of the world and I LOVE IT!!!! I wouldn’t have it any other way at this point
(We are not perfect, no one is. No institution is, but we get along, and we learn about one another and when a crisis arise, we don’t run away, we confront it and learn from it. That’s the best anyone, any institution can do, IMHO).
Here is you go, another piece of my heart and a little bit about my world
!
@Ivoire: You are such a people-person. I envy you. I find it difficult to approach people and make new friends … though, once you are my friend, watch out … because I can talk your ear off … especially about kdramas … LOL.
@ Hillary,
Awwww…. Thanks again for your compliment!!! I don’t think you should envy me though, because we were all made differently and for a reason. I am sure you have gifts and talents I don’t have and I could learn from you in some areas.
I think you and I would get along because I LOVE talking and I am a good listener. I listen with my ears but also with my heart, and I pay attention to what people are saying and also to WHAT they are not saying, that is important as well. I am part of the praying team at my church and I have learned that very often people won’t say certain things but it is on their hearts or it is a concern of theirs. You have to be willing to not to make it about you (because really, it isn’t), to humble yourself and pay attention. When and if people sense that they can trust you, they will open up. I think there is just some things that people can sense. I am also the same way. I don’t tell my life to everyone, but I am easy to read. I don’t try to fool people and that makes a difference.
I can also relate about the Kdrama thing, I LOVE talking about Kdramas (and Korean programming in general) and I don’t have anyone in my circle who loves it as much as I do (especially the talking about it and dissecting part), so I very often just end up talking to myself
. So again, with me, you would be in good company: I would listen, I would talk and I would not get tired of hearing you talk about Kdramas, because I would understand
The Me being a people person is a “nature and nurture thing.” I think I am like that at my core but also, my upbringing and my life experiences have contributed to making me that way, and I don’t regret it. I do have to read situations though, before I approach people (and I do) and I have to be sensitive (which I think I am, but I can always grow in that area). I think I am so enthusiastic about life because I feel that I have to be. Like anyone who lives long enough (I am in my early 40s), I have had my shares of disappointments, low self esteem (would you believe it?
), experiences with some types of abuse, feelings of loneliness, abandonment issues, fears, feeling inadequate, losses of friends, family members, of jobs, etc… many things that one goes through in his/her lifetime and I have to decide how low I will feel and how long I want to feel that way.
I try to find the lessons (and learn them) in each of my experiences and be enthusiastic about life because in many ways, I have been blessed, and I don’t want to disregard that. I am not naive, mind you but I try to be positive because I have been the other kind (negative) and it is not a good place to be at, for oneself and for others around you. I have to say that my faith has been instrumental in who I am and in how I have handled things and that the churches I have been a part of (over time in different cities, countries, continents) have definitely helped me grow spiritually. MY faith is my foundation and it has helped me stand, especially when I didn’t think I could.
I know what it is like to be hungry, feel lonely, abandoned, miss home, miss family members, be rejected, to be cold, etc… and so if I can help/make someone feel better with even just a smile, or listening or praying for them or with them, or being a friend or being friendly or helping in any way I can (by connecting them with others or someone who can help them), then I do. That is how I grew up, with a sense of service and with high standards when you do something, even if it’s just sweeping the floor (or cleaning the toilet), do it well, because even that matters. Again, I am not naive and I don’t have a polyannish view on life. I have been humbled many times and have learned that it is a blessing to give and it is a blessing to receive, one has to be open to that though and one has to know to ask for help when it is needed. And I don’t consider myself above any of that.
So far, the way I was raised (kudos to my mom and dad) and the lessons I chose to learn (and not let them pass me by) have served me well and have helped me grow.
That is part of my story, those are some of my lessons and I am sticking to them
P.S.: I also wanted to congratulate you on the adoption thing and the fact that you will be “sacrificing” 2 years to be in Trinidad to take care of that part of things so you can help your nephew and niece (right?, if memory serves me right). You are doing a great thing and you will be rewarded for it. I do hope that things will be resolved in a timely manner, so that you won’t get in trouble with your boss. I meant to comment on that, but I didn’t get a chance, so I am doing that here. Thank you for sharing that information with us.
Hillary * Fighting!!!!* Be encouraged and soldier on. I am rooting for you!!!! (Can you feel it
? )
@Ivoire: Thank you. I don’t consider adopting them or even relocating to Trinidad for 2 years as a sacrifice.
My biggest worries were 1) will my US-based job let me relocate and still work for them with same salary and benefits (they did) and 2) will I be able to access viki and dramafever as they generally have the fastest subs when they are restricted to US (found software that allows me to access them even from Trinidad … had my niece test it out for me and she was able to access my dramafever account from Trinidad). So glad someone on Soompi thread introduced me to that software.
@ Hillary,
I have to go, so I’ll be back to comment on your answer later.
@ Hillary,
I didn’t consider what you will be doing for your niece and nephew a sacrifice either, but I couldn’t come up with a better word at the time I was writing which is why I used the word sacrifice in air quotes (if you check how I wrote it). I was thinking when I was writing at the time “sacrifice, if you would even call it that.” So, I would agree with you, it’s not necessarily one. Some people might view it that way, but I also grew up in a environment (in Cameroon) where people do those kinds of things, so I could relate. I was just very happy for you and happy that you could do that and that the other aspects of your life seemed to be working out as well (meaning that you will be able to work from Trinidad with same salary and same benefits and that you will be able to access Viki and Dramafever, which are things that are important to you).
Ivoire dahling!! *waves* I’m sorry I’m going to miss the Pageant because it sounds so wonderful!! But since I never know when I’m going to get an emergency call that it’s better to not accept an invitation and back out at the last moment (that’s one of my pettest peeves). Fortunately I have a bunch of understanding chingus who know what kind of crappy work schedule I’m leading.
But we should meet up sometime for tea or coffee — have you been introduced to the wonder that is Paris Baguette Bakery yet?
Hello Cherkell, *waves back*
You have NO idea how sorry I am that you won’t make it. You would have love it, I am pretty certain of that. However, I DO understand that you have to make a living and I respect that. I can be understanding too, like your other chingus.
And no, I don’t know the wonder that is “Paris Baguette Bakery.” Where is it? (what town?) When we meet, we will be like Raine and Zgznoona (SP?) who met in FL and have hanged out (at times) since they’ve met:-)
I’ve got to say, I love the “DAHLING!!”, I could imagine the British accent and the dramatic gesture in the way it was said
!
Eep OT is early today
Hi everyone. Purposely came here because I am about to burst with absolute love and adoration for Kings 2Heart.
And no it is not even because of LSG cos’ I am not a fan of his. But the whole drama and it’s execution and pace… absolutely smashing. Love it. Can’t even begin to say how much I love episode 4.
Only one whinge- running for hours and a 60km route march without H2O. Plus who does a 60km march in 8 hours.
About The King 2 Hearts: I’m in love with that show, and it almost impinges on my real life… I have always thought that the reunification of the 2 Koreas was an issue taking place on the other side of the world, and that anyway I wouldn’t see the outcome in my lifetime. I honestly knew nothing about the Korean conflict until I started getting interested in K dramas: Those TV shows have so many butterfly effects… With the recent death of Kim Jong-Il and now this drama, I’m beginning to envision things differently. I’m the queen of improvizing, but here it’s certainly not a safe way. Everyone has to be very cautious and open minded at the same time. And we have to explore all the scenarii possible ( Jae Ha: You suck at diplomacy, it has to be said!). Making dramas about this matter is a way to prepare minds and hearts, to dedramatize the situation. And maybe a way to help building friendship between North and South Korean citizens. I’m wondering if that’s the goal of the producers for this drama: Do they treat this project as a simple fiction story, or do they feel like walking in a minefield, burdened by some sense of duty? I must say I find the writer(s) quite bold with that show: To mix up politic fiction, romance, action and dark humor… Not the easiest way. I’m in awe.
Cherkell~ Where in NorCal? I grew up in the Bay Area (60′s-80).
The weather in Virginia is beautiful. Everything is in bloom, lots of pollen though. Achoo.
Breeze blowing cherry blossoms. I felt as though I should be kissing a beautiful girl . The wife wasn’t falling for it though. Oh well, I tried.
We’re watching Fairy Couple. It’s simple, has some funny characters. Not a drama per se. The male lead character is so morally upright it’s exasperating. The female leads are so pretty.
I’ve watched the first two episodes of Love Rain. Seo In Ha needs to quit being passive/aggressive and profess his true feelings for Kim Yoon Hee.
Chilling Romance sounds good, I’ll probably watch that this weekend.
John!! I was thinking about going to the Japanese garden at Red Wing Park this weekend to see the sakura trees, but my poor blue car is now a light shade of green so it’s off to the carwash first.
How’s the brewing going? I know you talked about it a couple of OT’s back.
The brewing is coming along. A slow process. We’ll be transferring , (aka racking) the lemon wine into other containers this weekend. This is to clarify the brew. I need to find some pallets so I can make some low budget wine racks for the garage.
I’m off today, so I do have to go and help the wife out in the back yard. I have a pull up bar that has to go, the posts rotted so It’s headed for the dump. Besides, it’s easier to use the gym at work.
Yeah, I have to do the second Scotts Plus Halts on the parents’ yard, and start dismantling a garden area at their house.
Meanwhile, my new landlord in NC has promised to till me a vegetable garden, so I’m kind of excited about that.
Two things I love my dad for: golf and homemade limoncello.
Not the ONLY two things though, just want to say that…
Shuk~
Yeah, we’re doing a bunch of rip out kind of work, the pull up bar, old landscape timbers, tree roots from the neighbor’s !@#$%^ Maple tree..
We do a bit of vegetable gardening, our yard isn’t that big. We do have several fig trees , ‘Petite Negra’ (Ficus carica), some blueberries. Now if we can keep the birds, squirels and who knows what else from eating them. We’ll do cucumbers, tomatoes, etc.
The lemon wine will be finished sooner than the Mead . I can hardly wait.
John….she works in Cupertino, so I’m sure she’s in Silicon Valley somewhere. I live down in Monterey County. Hubby works in Milpitas, so we’re in the same neighborhood…sort of, lol.
Shel~
I grew up in the East Bay, El Sobrante to be exact, and also lived in Walnut Creek. Most of my family is still in the Bay Area. I don’t get out there too often though.
I have friends out in the East Bay….so we’re out there every once in awhile, in Pleasanton. I really like it there, we looked at property in that general area back in 1999, but it was so much cheaper to build down here. Hubby was working in Morgan Hill at the time, so the commute wasn’t terrible. It’s a pain now, but we LOVE it down here…I can see Monterey Bay from my greatroom and the weather is perfect, so we just put up with it. This $4.50 gas is gonna kill us, though…
Shel~
Monterey. It’s beautiful there. I have a grandaunt that lives in Pleasanton. She recently celebrated her 104th birthday. The local paper did an article about her. She came over from Ireland as a mere lass.
Gosh, her friend tried to emigrate and at the same time and failed the health inspection. She raised her family in San Leandro in a huge Victorian house. We’d often have get togethers there, plenty of room for our rather large families.
Yup, what Shel say. I work at The Mothership and live in Los Altos (at the ‘spaghetti bowl’ known as Hwy 85/I-280/Foothill Expressway). Ivoire is in my neck of the woods as well, along with newly-found-out @lessofapern. *waves* We’re taking over the OT World, one post at a time!
Oh my, I just had to post, I lived in San Francisco for a few years and totally miss it!! Live in Hawaii now but nothing beats the Bay Area……..you guys are making me jealous!!
I’m really trying to get into King 2 Hearts but I’m having a hard time. I will seriously have to watch the first 4 episodes before next Wednesday.
I am loving Rooftop Prince, though.
In the same boat with you Kewpie. Everyone else is raving, though, so I will probably retry it.
Ditto on both accounts!
I can see why others like K2H, but I found it pure suffering to slog through the first episode. Very slow going and liberal use of the FF button. I’m going to keep trying, since everyone seems to like it so much, but I’m ready to admit that it’s probably just not my thing.
I’m not TOTALLY into it but I do find it watchable. RTP is not doing it for me though. Different things for different people hey:)
It’s so interesting, that most people are loving one but not the other. I’m on the K2H boat, it seems very tight and the characters are ricocheting against each other so nicely.
(Pause while the grammar freak in me tries to figure out if that verb needs 2 t’s. I think, no.)
But Rooftop Prince seems canned and pathetic. I don’t care about the sisterly unlove, I don’t care about the family intrigue, and I only barely care about the heroine’s fruit stand, because that much peace, love, and happiness needs a pair of sunglasses.
Is there anyone around who likes both K2H and RP?
I like them both. But I like K2H more. RTP is beginning to get on my nerves. I blame it on SUFBB. Everything was so logical and smart, that I’m having a hard time accepting stupidity, lol.
I was wondering myself how that particular aspect of this show was being received in South Korea. I don’t know if anyone in North Korea is even able to watch it, and I honestly don’t even know if there’s any interaction between the two groups of citizens. My guess is probably not. We never even hear about people defecting; there’s so little information coming this way.
Hey ck1Oz –
I thought LSG’s character was a little to whiny to be likeable, but maybe I should soldier on and watch the next two. Certainly the subs for both K2H and RTP are flying out like gangbusters.
Oh my gosh yes he’s whiny.
Then I think you’re such a loser. Then the writer writes such bursts of principles and he becomes a guy you Kang Ah can respect. Then he goes back to pouty boy you want to send to bed without dessert.
That’s the beauty of the show. It makes you hate him and then go ‘he’s not so bad’
However what’s great is the acting from the whole cast and how it meshes so well. So watch this week’s this week I went from good show to becoming a rabid fan.
He’s playing unlikeable SO well. For a kid that you practically can’t NOT like in RL. I’m really wanting to whap him up side of the head and tell him to grow some manners. And I think the RL LSG is a cutie pie, who seems so nice on the shows he hosts, etc. Not to mention the refrigerator commercials, lol.
I love K2H (probably not as much as RP). And, I found LSG’s character in K2H much better (less petulant and whiny) than his character in Shining Inheritance, so I am happy.
I thought exactly that,. How can they run 60 km in 8 hours. I actually remembered when I used to hike and it was like 5km per hour, of course not running, but with a backpack fully equipped in my back. and you have to drink or eat fruit every hour, not much, but you can dehydrate if you don’t.
Any ways, i’m loving the drama, and next week it seems we’ll have a wedding to attend
I’m probably wrong, but I have a feeling king hyung might get out of the picture (death or sickness) and baby bro will have to take charge, hence the need for him to realize and learn early in the drama.
In any case, I can’t wait for next week
Agreed. When I suggested to my sister that we watch it, she (unpopular opinion warning) didnt want to because she doesnt like LSG. But we watched it anyway because Jo Jung Suk (What’s Up) is in it.
I really LOVE the pace and the setting and hope that future episodes do not disappoint.
Ahhh! That’s what I’ve seen him in! It keeps niggling at me!
ck10zzzzzzzzzz!!!!!!!!!! *Squeals, Runs, HUGS*
It’s so good to be on today and be able to see you! *Does a Happy dance*
How have you been? Still volunteering over at V?
Oh hi
* I would do a SNSD dance for you if I could * I have been around but whizzing through.
I am fine. Took a break after Wild Romance and uploaded about 53 Kdramas for my cousin. Who should go down on her knees in thanks as I downloaded so many for her post MU collapse.
Viki…er, I guess. I am on RP, then Bride Mask ( squeal Joo Won the cutie pie) then Arang ( Lee Jun Ki better be confirmed). So yeah on viki till Oct at least. Haha…
Currently obssessed with Kings 2Heart. And next week, looking forward to Standby cos’ I need my dose of Mon to Fri hotties.
What about you? I am about to hit ZZZZ…..
@ck10z: I have to say I agree with you. I might, for next week only, have to stream K2H live rather than RP. The preview of next episode looks great.
@ck1Oz
Are you subbing K2H this time around on Viki? I’ve been trying to start it but have a bit of trouble with it.
She said in 3.5.1 that she is RP.
How could I miss that? Damn allergy meds…
Happy Friday, Fellow Drama Devourers! It’s been a wild, wet and windy week — we’re getting a last blast of what passes for ‘winter’ here in NorCal, but it’s been miserable just trying to accomplish daily tasks without getting soaked up to my knees. Not complaining (much), because we really need the rains to keep the hills lush and green and the fire dangers down… but can you stop for at least an hour so I can get a run or two in before I turn into a pile of non-exercised mush?
Phew! To all the recappers here: How do you guys do it?!? I am truly blessed that you gals are plugging away and posting so quickly — you definitely need Hazard Pay for all the dramas that have premiered during the past two weeks!! I’m exhausted just reading the reviews, but thankful for all the immense work that goes into them. I guess we should be careful what we wish for, because although there were some exceptional dramas in 2011, didn’t we all want just a little bit more to chew on in 2012? And now our cups (and TiVos) runneth over!! Put yourselves in for a raise! MWAH!!!
And speaking of TiVos, because I refuse to run around in this weather and possibly risk catching some sort of creeping crud again, I’ve been cleaning off my DVR this week. Caught up on “Wild Romance” (liking it, but not jumping up and down in glee over it), finished “Brain” (very well done, but if I have to shield my eyes while watching a drama [all that blood made me dizzy], it kinda defeats the purpose), and something I may regret while on my deathbed, the travesty that is “Dream High 2.” I think the reason DH1 succeeded on so many levels is because we actually cared about the characters, whether they were underdogs or superstars. Here in DH2, they’re just too pathetic to give a rat’s ass about. I’m only on Episode 4, but I still want to shake Kang Sora so hard to make that small piece of brain she has return to that hole in her head. Hmpf.
I also talked to my friends in Japan earlier this week — they are besides themselves that “Warrior Baek Dong Soo” will be airing on Asahi TV in April. Make sure you have several boxes of kleenex and something soft to throw at your TVs in anguish, and get yourselves ready for massive doses of The Pretty!
Nothing new to report on my department’s reorganization. Any attempts I make to glean the tiniest bit of information out of my managers is met with a stone-face look. Argh. It’s already all I can do to keep from busting out into tears when I attend another ‘going-away’ lunch for someone who’s being kicked to the curb. Oh well… one foot in front of the other, right?
So it’s time to get all dolled up and pull on some panty hose (EVIL!!) and haul my butt over to court for a full day of pre-trial motions… maybe. The judge that was assigned has had the flu this past week, and hearings have been cancelled at a moment’s notice. If I have the good fortune to have that happen today, I’m gonna take a day of PTO and return to my couch thusly. “Operation Proposal’s” finale is waiting for me, and I don’t want to keep my Back Hoe waiting too long… Ja ne!!
Hey Cherk!
Good luck with your cases, sorry about the hose (as I lay on a couch wearing fuzzy slippers and pink pajama pants with little scottie dogs all over them).
Based on everything I’ve read here, you might want to put DH2 on the bad pile next to ATK…
Oh pantyhose…I really despite pantyhose…
Yay for Tivo!!!!
I’m staying away from DH2 and I have yet to tackle Brain. Maybe I should…
with you on the pantyhose thing. i gave them up for lent or whatever years ago and never looked back.
of course, I wear mostly jeans and longer skirts anyway.
Cherkell!!! *HUGS and more HUGS*
Glad to read that you are hanging in there in the midst of some not so nice things going on right now.
Cherkell FIGHTING!!!
*Gives a bag of chocolate for medicinal purposes*
*HUGS, HUGS, HUGS*
MJP! I’m sure you posted downthread, but greetings! How are all the MJP men doing?
MJP!! How’ve ya been, sweetie? Missed ya around these parts!! And you always know how to bribe… erm, I mean… make me feel better with chocolate thoughts! Although I’d much prefer being bribed with chocolate abs right now…
Hi from Cupertino
Good luck with your cases. Hope you stay well because a nasty bug has been going around here. I can commiserate about the rain too. My sister was visiting from Maryland and it was raining the whole time she was here. Meanwhile it was sunny and in the 70′s back home in Maryland
Go figure. Last time she was here was during El Ninio when it was raining buckets. We are supposed to be sunny California
Poor thing had booked a double decker bus tour in San Fran and got soaked to the bone.
Hope you get to see the OP finale today.
Have a great weekend
My friend and I plan to have coffee this morning and watch Rooftop Prince at my place. It’s great to watch Kdramas with someone. I rewatched Greatest Love with my sister and she loved Doko Jin. My husband and I are watching History of a Salary Man. I’m slowly but surely getting everyone I know hooked
Reel ‘em in, lessaofpern!! The more, the merrier!!
I’m working on it
At first I have to twist their arm and I am subjected to some eye rolling. After a few episodes, they are willing to stay up until 2 in the morning and I hear them say… just one more episode, then I’ll go to bed. Muu Haaa Haaa!!!!!! Yes, I know I’m EVIL
I just finished Brain yesterday and I kind of want to run off and set up a shrine to Shin Ha Kyun. The man is amazing! It took me awhile to get into it, but once I got going I simply couldn’t stop. Such an enjoyable watch, though I suspect that it wouldn’t have been half as awesome without the combination of Shin Ha Kyun and Jung Jin Young’s considerable acting skills.
In hindsight, I can see why the production team ditched Lee Sang Yoon, Lee Hyun Jin and Yoon Seung Ah for a more experienced cast. Still an epically rude thing to do, but I can see why.
Well, this is interesting… I drive down to the Santa Clara County Courthouse and notice only a smattering of cars in the parking lot. The attorney I’m supporting on this litigation parks right next to me, and we both look confused while walking up to a dark lobby.
The attorney pulls out the Notice from the Court saying we have motions scheduled in front of Judge X today (March 30, 2012). But the Courthouse is locked up tighter than a drum, with a sign saying “All California Courts will be closed in observance of Cesar Chavez Day – March 30, 2012.” We look at each other with a WTF on our faces (we’re not used to celebrating this holiday because law firms are always open on CCD). So we try to find one of the bailiffs walking the perimeter and show him the Notice requiring our appearance, and he’s confused as well. The only thing we three can surmise is that since these notices are computer-generated from the Court, the system didn’t take into account today being a State Holiday.
Long story short, there’s no Court today!! We hop in our respective cars and head out, but not before I told him that I’m going to work from home the rest of the day, because I’m behind on my “legal research reading.” So that means just one thing — TAKING OFF THE PANTY HOSE AND HANGING OUT WITH YOU COOL KIDS TODAY!! W00T!!!
Oh! Forgot to mention earlier — are there any OTers that live in Singapore? Get your Stalking Caps on, because Changwook-ssi will be arriving there on 8 April for a week to film some segments for a travel show he’s been asked to host!! My Precious wasn’t kidding when he said in his last interview that his next role was going to be way different than his last three. DAEBAK!!!
Yea, Cherkell! Kick back, ‘cuz it’s Miller Time!!
Blech. Miller is Mississippi River Piss Water (but I appreciate the reference). I’m crackin’ back now with a Lagunitas Brown Shuggah Ale instead. Even with living in the Land of Wine and More Wine, I would rather remain a Beer Snob. Less hassle that way.
Debating whether or not to go see “Nameless Gangster” at Cupertino Square at 4:10 PM today, or wait until Sunday when I planned on seeing it then. Decisions, decisions…
The best laid plans, ‘o mice and men…
Crappity crap crap. Had to return to the office at 3:30 PM because 15 mechanics’ liens were filed against one of our Canada stores… and since I cover Canada, I’ve got to play Miracle Worker and get them all released by the end of the day on Monday. I see some serious hours NOT being taken up by pleasurable means. Geez, can’t I EVER get a break? ARGH.
FIFTEEN? Tell that bookkeeper to pay the bills!
You know, Cherkell, you could still come to the play this evening, I will be there
and I have extra tickets.
(It’s ok if you don’t, I understand…)
Tights, woman! Navy or black tights, they’re very “in” right now. Men don’t even notice.
I’m here early for once!
HAHA
Congrats!
I’m currently hanging at the postgraduate room of the School of Oriental and African Studies, just because it’s so much more awesome than the postgraduate room of my own uni down the street. It’s on the second floor! It has a view! It has a semi-circular shape! There’s a microwave and a water boiler and people are actually sleeping here, because it’s a comfy place. Not like at my uni where they stuck us in the basement…
Anyhow… just watching Rooftop Prince at the moment and loving it so far. Might jump on the Kings 2 Heart train but haven’t yet – quite busy and not much time to watch anything really.
Did watch a lovely, old-ish Japanese movie about one of their classical music composers (Taku Rentaro) this week, and unfortunately had to skip the Korean film screening of “Meet Mr Daddy” with the director’s Q&A because I was just too broke to afford the cinema ticket (just waiting for my jobs to pay me for this month!!!). But I’m totally psyched for all the film screenings at the Korean Cultural Centre in April (all films by Song Il-gon) and can’t wait for the Terracotta Film Festival, plus more. I think I’ll be watching a lot of films, and not so many dramas as a result….
Happy Friday, happy weekend!
YAY! Beautiful rooms. I wish I could wander around an English university again…wait! I can…Oxford in July!
How are you love? I’m going to have to go haunt your site this weekend. I saw you posted a couple reviews on things I’m interested in!
How much are you loving RTP? I’m like waiting for my next hit…for serious…
I’m partial to lovely rooms for studying. Particularly having a view (which is very hard to come by).
I’m dreadfully behind on reviews… have about 10 that I need to write… and a LOT of films I will be watching in April, so I need to catch up.
Totally loving RTP so far… I’m really tempted to watch episode 3 right now (since I haven’t yet and it’s up), but I think I’d crack up and end up laughing out loud. But this room is a “silent” space and I’d embarrass myself terribly.
Hehehe. I didn’t think it could get funnier and then episode 3 happened. You will just die laughing.
As for beautiful spaces. When I went to UNC, there was this building that was for people who made good grades…I forget what it was called. But the study lounge covered the entire second floor and was stunning and overlooked the quad. It was across campus but I would always haul myself out there just to study.
Sounds like a fabulous space at UNC!
Don’t you think they would make an effort to create such spaces everywhere? To get people to study? I really think it makes a difference.
I feel so lucky I discovered this space (a friend showed me) and that I can sneak in (since it’s not my uni… but you can get in with a library card, which I do have for this uni).
Can’t wait to watch ep 3 and 4 of RTP! I just loved it when all the guys were dressed modern-style and showed off their glorious manes of glory that were hidden under their hats (having forgotten of course that that was the hair style way-back-then).
Raine dear, by the way, I saw this Japanese film from 1993 called “Bloom in the Moonlight” this week – about this guy: Taki Rentarō. You would love it – it’s all about classical music and although the physical quality of the film wasn’t always great (they were using old film reels!), the music was wonderful. The two leads actually played the piano *themselves* in the film and gave some amazing performances.
I’ll review it (hopefully sooner rather than later – will let you know when it’s up), but the film really made me want to find out more about classic music in Japan!
Happy Friday, Alua! *HUGS*
Glad to hear you have found a nice space to hang out and watch the dramas.
Hang in there with the budgeting. I can so totally empathize to that wait for payday.
*hugs back*
I’m hanging in there… I work mostly freelance and although I generally work for the same people, not all are equally timely with paying… :-/
Most of the time it’s okay though…
Hellloooooo everyone! I know I disappeared last Friday. This week as been CRAZY! I haven’t forgotten about you.
How are you? Tell me how you’re doing! I’ve missed the Beaners!
JoAnne unni – HIIIIIIIII! *hugs* You will get e-mail soon.
Shuk – how’s the story
Shel – Halfway through your little gift…heehee…it’s kinda goofy
Cherkell – you still working harder than anyone I know?
Ricky – Still super super busy in school?
ck10z – your rockin my world with your subs. For reals. Just had to send some mad props
zgzunni – *hugs*
cmrprindle – Hi!!!! How’s the writing going?
AND
ROOFTOP PRINCE = DAEBAK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m so in love. So so so so so in love. MadDino have little spaz attacks every Wed and thurs over the awesomeness and then continue to spaz in our recaps and then over the weekend I rewatch things. How priceless is Micky Yoochun dancing? Elevator scene? Whipcream? Stoplights? Toilet water? Tracksuit trio?
So much clever writing, directing and acting. And Han Ji-min is so cute and Lee Tae-sung is ALL GROWN UP!!!!!!
Fashion King – how I love to make fun of this show. I’m enjoying myself. No, for real. It’s so much fun to make fun of. It’s the entirety of my recaps I think. That and taking screencaps of Lee Je-hoon. WOW. I’m in love. He’s like up with Park Shi-hoo on the hotness factor…
I haven’t started K2H, L&S or Equator Man. What’s the verdict on those thus far?
I wasn’t present last week too.
Yes, still quite busy with assignments. One big hurdle (research paper about the aboriginal community in Malaysia) has passed though and I’m very happy with my grade for that assignment.
I’m excited about Rooftop Prince, as well.
And again, I’m so glad to hear the story about your new 5 year old student
Aw thanks! Let me tell it here cause it was so awesome.
I teach an 10 y/o private cello lessons and every week her mother says that the 5 y/o asks for lessons too. So finally, they got her the most ADORABLE half-sized cello and I gave her her first lesson.
The girl couldn’t sleep the night before she was so excited. She was SUPER focused the entire half hour and very carefully chose a sticker to put on her notebook afterwards. When I left her mother texted me that she was running around the house screaming, “I LOVE CELLO I LOVE CELLO I LOVE CELLO!”
And I burst into tears. I seriously was floored to hear that. I felt like my chest was going to burst I was so happy. I shared my happiness with Ricky yesterday.
The part about the sticker killed me!
She sounds so adorable.
I love the fact that you love your job very much.
She’s ridiculously cute. I’m going to take a picture of her cello next week so you can see how small it is. KAWAIIII!
Wait “1/2 size cello” – isn’t that a viola??
[ducks]
Oooh, you’re in for it now, Shuk!
You’re right, maybe it’s a vertical guitar…. [eeevil grin]
Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Well, I will bow down to her musicality.
I hope my wit is sharp and my jokes don’t fall flat.
I didn’t mean to orchestrate such a long string of funny, but I won’t fret about it.
I didn’t mean to be such an “F-hole”.
Okay, I’ll stop now.
So many puns!
HA
That just made me smile a lot!
Both the fact that you must be an awesome cello teacher as well as the fact that a little kid can be so wonderfully excited and enthusiastic about something!
Ha! The 5 year old kids I know are so uncoordinated and have the attention span like that of the evil villain in King 2 Hearts.
Only an awesome teacher can make her sit down and concentrate.
Hi Ricky,
Glad to know that you are doing well in school, those long days and nights toiling and studying do pay off, don’t they? Keep up the good work.
I did notice that you were not on OT last week, and I wanted to let you know that I had left a response to your last response on OT #231, you might not have been aware of that. Here is the link to my post, it’s on the first page:
4.1.2.3.13 Ivoire March 20th, 2012 at 1:44 am
Just wanted to let you know. Hope all is well with you!
I went and read it.
Thank you for that response, Iv
You are welcome!
Congrats on the paper, Ricky!
Thanks, Shel!
I worked really hard to complete it. It’s incredibly satisfying to know that your sweat and tears paid off.
Was there anything about caves or internet in your paper?
Ahh yes, actually. I decided to do my paper on the Aboriginal people in Peninsular Malaysia and there’s a lengthy paragraph about the stereotypes regarding this community, one of them being related to caves.
Hello Raine!
What a frantic week we had! How are your eyes? Mine are ruined. lol.
MINE ARE SHOT! I don’t have eyes. I got implants for drama watching and recap writing! I stayed up til 2 with Deeno writing and then til 4 finishing up the post. It’s been a long week of recapping but I seriously love it. especially with Deeno. I think I’m funny, and then she says stuff like “Go towards the light. It has yogurt.” And I laugh so hard I can no longer write.
You think you’re laughing…you should hear me. So much nonsense streaming out of my mouth.
Raine! *HUGS*
Glad to see you are doing well. I totally agree about Rooftop Prince. I haven’t been able to keep up with Fashion King, but from your comment and my Kteen’s comment it looks like it’s gonna be good when I can get to watch it!
K2H AWESOME!!!!
Equator Man very melo, not for me.
L&S??? Don’t know.
Your teen watches Kdramas, MJP?
Raine dahling!! *waves* Yup, there’s never a spare moment to myself… unless I smuggle my iPad into an unused conference room and lock the door tight. KDramas…. take me away!!
Heard the Saint-Saëns Cello Concerto No. 2 on the radio the other day and thought of you. Have you ever attempted it? Not one of his more prized works, but still sounded awesome to hear in the middle of rush hour traffic.
Anyway, good to see ya back — how goes the packing and moving and stuff? Loving what you and Deeno are doing with the Rooftop Prince recaps — major liquid-snorting moments there. Keep ‘em coming!!
Raine, *hugs* I saw you are having awesome rewarding moments at work. I’m sure you’ll miss all those kids once you move to Colorado. But there you’ll find new pupils who love the cello.
@Ricky: congrats on your paper. Is this the one you got an A+ in? I felt so happy for you when I read that this morning.
You’ve been working hard and deserve it.
Happy OT beautiful people!!!

My weeks wasn’t as productive as it could have been, but it’s been good.
Last Sunday I watched Chilling Romance, it was really funny, and made me jump out of my chair a couple of times
if you are interested, you can find it here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sGNMIx3NaS8&feature=player_embedded
maybe we could make it the next movie, for the noonas movie night.
or could we watch “Going by the Book” I really like that one and I watched it long time ago
Just saying
No new on the job, front, but I’m not surprise, since it’s been only a week.
Bout my drama watching, almost done with OP, well I already watch 16 raw, but I’m waiting for the subs. I really enjoyed this drama. Though 15 made me cry like a little girl.
Oh goodness!
The temptation. And I have to type and study this weekend.
Evil noona! :p
Thanks for the link.
An evil noona is exactly what and evil dongsaeng like you deserves.
evil noona teasing dongsaeng
Will you have time to watch it with us during tomorrow’s movie night?
That would be great
By the way. did you find a biology topic for your English presentation? Not that I have one for you, I’m just curious
Tomorrow’s movie night would be sometime around 11am for me. I think I can make.
You know what, I’m still thinking about that elusive topic. I’m thinking about doing one about chromosomal disorders and relating them to the sex versus gender debate. We’ll see how it goes.
Innocent dongsaeng bullied by evil noona
Sounds like an interesting topic for a presentation. I would love to learn about that.
by the way, not to sure you are so innocent
I have no idea what you’re talking about :p
Chilling romance was so cute though! We made a mini movie night with me, zgz and Deeno. So fun. I want another OT movie night!
That would be a great MN movie, it’s on my list since I saw Dal Ja and commited to watch anything LMK ever did, lol.
ZGZ dahling! *hugs* Oh, I totally agree with “Chilling Romance” being an Official MN Selection. I started watching but had to put it aside due to time constraints. I liked what I saw of the first 20 minutes, at least.
And WORD on the OP Ep 15 — Seungho-ssi is definitely not shy in the Tears Falling Like Rain Department. My heart was breaking right and left and up and down and sideways for my little Back Hoe. On to the Finale!!
Hi cherkell, I’m happy to heart you had the day “off” to watch dramas, and that so far you are surviving the craziness at work.
I hope you are enjoying OP Finale, I did an hour ago and like it pretty much. I’m really happy with this drama, though I know some people were a little desperate with all the fruitless time traveling. But the truth is that each trip had a reason to be so uri Baekho could learn that what needed to be change wasn’t the past but the present
Seungho-ssi has a very special place in my heart, he’s growing to be such a great actor.
I think this week is a Movie Noona week, right? I haven’t seen “Chilling Romance” so I’m down with it.
We have to set the time for movie night then
Zgznoona! *HUGS*
Hello GORGEOUS!
My weeks are never as productive as I wish them to be! LOL!
I hope the job prospect works out for you.
So, for you OP is overall a “Thumbs Up?”
Hi MJP,
I missed you, I saw you around last week, but it’s been a while since we last talk.
I guess we set the goal to high some tiems, and it’s hard to reach them all.
OP for me is a good drama to watch, underrated in general, and you have to understand that all the drama moves around the hero trying to get the girl and failing. Because once he gets the girl the drama has to end. Some people lose their patience with the story because of that.
So, how are you doing? and how is your family?
CHILLING ROMANCE!!!! yes yes yes yes yes yes
I have been WAITING FOR SO LONG….
My internet woes will hopefully be solved Saturday so I am UP for a Noona Night, definitely, and vote with both hands for Chilling Romance!
zgznoona: Hello! Thank for the link. I’ve been wanting to watch this movie ever since it was mentioned here in DB. I also want to participate in the Movie Night I’ve read so much about. Please let me know if it is decided. I’ll wait to watch it till then.
Take care!
You’re welcome.
Movie night usually every other Saturday night US Eastern time around 9:30 pm
It would be great if you can participate.
Just watched ‘Chilling Romance’. I was thinking as I was watching that I should stop because it’s probably up for MN viewing. Now I’m bummed. I wanted to spazz with everyone else. LMK is a dollface.
@Cruelsummer:
Hello! I’m happy to see you here today. I wanted to thank you again for the Mars on YTube link. I was able to watch it in a bigger screen and enjoy the better quality in both image and translation. This was my first full Vic Zhou drama and wow, I’m crushing on him now even more. He looks waaaaaay better than as an F4. The character of Ling, fit him to the ‘t’. I even read the Manga a long time ago and that was a head trip too. They stayed true to it. The acting was excellent. Again, thank you so much. I had been wanting to finish watching for a while now.
Enjoy your weekend
No problem, JadeL. I really enjoyed Mars, so I was glad to be able to share the love. Vic is gorgeous. I actually read the manga after the drama and I too was impressed by how close they were to the original material.
Cruelsummer, I already watched it and don’t mind to watch it again. So far I’ve seen before hand all the movies chosen for movie night. Some times I have forgotten of things, and watching it a second time gives you the liberty to pay attention to details you miss while reading subs
I actually watched it without subs last week — I know, I got it bad for LMK! Though he should eat more. Anyway, it was really cute, from the 50% of it that I could figure out.
I saw Chilling Romance on Friday, which led me to finally watch Dal Ja’s Spring – saw 16 episodes over the weekend (will try to finish tonight)…. now, I’m in love with Lee Min Ki!!!
Hey everyone. What another great week in Kdramaland.
Rooftop Prince was again hilarious. And King of 2 Hearts got intense. The subbers at viki have been super fast so as soon as everything is subbed I watch. But then I don’t have anything else to watch after. So my current night time drama is Once Upon a Time in Saengchori. Why didn’t I watch this show when it first came out I always avoided it. I am on ep 16 right now 4 more to go. And now that I know that Ha Suk Jin has been cast in Stand By I am even more excited for this daily drama. He and Ryu Jin do the fumbling straight laced guy so great. I know Call of the Country was not that popular but Ryu Jin’s performance in it is hilarious. Stand By what a Great Cast plus they have Lee Ki Woo( Pillar). I hope he gets the girl this time. With the new the old must go on. It means High Kick 3 is almost over. Anyway it only subbed up to 72 on drama fever so it behind and subbing buy I am thankful. I just hope some one is dedicated to Standby.
Well here the a few things I wanted to share with everyone. I mentioned in the last OT about how I noticed Korean actors were starting to do more TW/C Dramas and then during this week I found out Choi Siwon is going to do another one.
Its about a woman who is thirty-six she gets into a car accident and her soul returns to her twenty-two year old body. She has a chance to re-do her life again, and she plans to not make the same mistakes this time around by not marrying Si Won’ s character again because in the future he is fat and bald. She tries to go for a richer suitor but fate brings her back to Siwon’s character again. I like the premise its apparently a remake. Just hope they get a decent voice over. Also Yoon Shi Yoon is in talks to do a Chinese drama he has such a Big voice who in the world would they get for the voice over.
Ha! I read the article about Yoon Shi Yoon hired in a C drama. I was surprised! But it’s OK. If they dub his voice, it’s an unforgivable blasphemy indeed! But i read he was seriously working on his Chinese… Wait and see.
If it’s a Mainland drama, then they’ll definitely dub Yoon Shi Yoon, no matter how much his Chinese improves. They dub everyone, actually – it’s simply faster and easier for everyone to go into the studio and record a track so that they don’t have to worry while they’re filming. Hong Kong and Taiwanese actors usually just roll with their Taiwanese accents or speak in Cantonese because they’ll just be dubbed over later. It’s one of the things I really don’t like about cdramas, but eh, what can you do.
Yuck.
I abhor dubbed anything.
Wae, YSY, wae?
Yeah, I noticed the trend too. I wonder why they decide to venture into the Taiwanese market.
I like the premise of the drama you described. But again, the trend about space-time continuum keeps popping up in Asian dramas now.
My guess is to be on the Hallyu Wave. But as a said before hen they do (V.O) its after filming. A person watches scenes on screen in a audio both and then has to put their emotion to it. Problem is you have to be good because the voice actor could have a different interpretation of the emotions then the actor who is on screen. And then there’s the whole thing of not being there and having the interaction with people to react to in that moment there nothing like it. I mean how do you convey chemistry with someone with just your voice and on top of that happened about four months ago and you weren’t even there.
The dubbing of voices is a problem for me. I find it so off-putting. I remember watching Boys Over Flowers on TV that was dubbed in Mandarin. It wasn’t very well-made and I think that was why I sorta kinda wasn’t into the BOF hype, even to this day.
Hello ricky!
From what i understand, the SK officials strongly bet on the Hallyu to expand outside the homeland. They must provide money and facilities for co-productions i suppose.
Hello, Mys!
Well, I don’t think they have a problem with that. A lot of people are into Kpop and Kdramas. Even educational institutions in my country took note of this phenomena and decided to have student exchange programs with the schools in South Korea.
Me too. I haven’t finished EC/SB. I need too. He’s so hot in it and his acting steadily improved.
I’m in love with RTP. I think I said that 4 times already but I’ll keep saying it!
@mystisith – YSY seriously? And the dubbing drives me crazy cause I can lip read a little Korean and it makes me bonkers when they don’t line up.
Seriously! It was on viki news if i remember. I will let them dub anyone else, but not My Sunshine. Not possible. I will steal the dubbing files if they dare to do it!
Oooh, they best be scared! That’s so nuts. I’m really appreciating Viki, for all the things that annoy me. It airs in the morning for me and by dinner, subs are out. At least for RTP and FK.
And K2H
I really enjoyed Saengchori, although I bought it before wising up on Chinese DVDs and subtitles so had to pull out all the video files and rematch them with proper subtitles (I’d thought it was a legit purchase which was really annoying – last time I made that mistake).
I’m enjoying King2Hearts, think Rooftop is a bit meh (writing OK, acting not so). Equator Man I’m not sure – it’s not really my type of drama I guess – I’m not one for the more soapy ones – but it seems pretty decent so far. Unlike Love Rain which was a quick drop. I’m going to try to rewatch Fugitive Plan B this week to see how a 2nd viewing sits with me – whether I am more forgiving of some of the slower parts knowing how it pans out.
I didn’t think much of Hunger Games (ditto the books) but my star cinema trip of the week is the new Aardman – Pirates in an Adventure with Scientists (which I think might have a slightly non-science title in the US – something like Wacky Crew?). Brilliantly silly and scarily imaginative – loved every minute. And proper voice acting, not stunt star vocal casting. I almost didn’t miss Gromit!
A little about me and my thoughts on Fashion King:
When I was going to school it was for screenwriting, its a requirement that all Motion Pictures and Television students take core class or the fundamentals of the movie making process. So as a screen writer major,I had take directing class, editing class(One of the most time consuming classes I have ever done but I learned a lot) and acting. You can imagine my shock, ME who likes to be in my head and laugh at the scenarios that are in my head in the middle of the night (Ok a litttle weird). I had to interact with people.HA. Not to mention the whole class was boys Its just that when your the only one of your kind its abit weird. There was only 2 girls in the whole class including myself and girl from South Korea she was so surprised and thought it was cool when I said I like Kdrama because I’m black (Liberian to be specific) We actually became good class buddies. But then I learned some great things and learned how to think in the perspective of an actor which helps me in my writing process. Anyway my teacher told me that the definition for acting is this: “Living truthfully imaginary circumstances.”
So with that my view on Fashion King so far.
First I love Yoo In Ah and the character Kang Young Gul he cries in every episode so far more then Ga Young LOL. He is a bit different from of the mold of Kdrama male. Ok I know there are exemptions to this but for the most part Kdrama males types are either distant and cold but somewhere under there is a heart and the love interest is able to let them shed this coldness. The other is the poor kid who has courage and determination despite being knocked down over and over so you root for them. And I never get sick of these types either. And there are couple more but I am not going over them to save space.(I know its long)
And yes these things are there in Young Gul but there’s more elements. He’s crafty ,resourceful and quick on his feet to get himself out situations yet he’s not selfish and quite caring he won’t just throw someone under the bus. When he fights he loses but he sure does give all he’s got. He has the persona that he so cool with everything and maybe even a bit a slacker but he’s a hard worker.
This where the “Living truthfully imaginary circumstances” because every time his character in knocked down Yoo In Ah really makes me believe that he going through a hard time. I see it on his face, I hear it in his voice even though I don’t buy the circumstances. I do like Ga Young she has some backbone is smart she is assertive and has pretty good perception which is refreshing to see in a female lead.
The overall story still in my opinion has not been set yet. I think it wasted a lot of time getting to New York on circumstances that’s a bit far fetched but ok drama I’ll go along. I also think they already established that our two main leads are the underdogs that are talented but they keep hitting us over the head with this. He’s didn’t go to school for fashion and does not have the best home life this is enough to go off for me. You don’t have to keep throwing more stuff in there. I feel like I have to keep digging to get through all the circumstances to get to the heart of the story. I am not even going into details about the portrayal of Americans cause it kinda of hurts a little. But again drama I get it so I will just cringe when the Americas pop up. I mean why don’t people every try to do something different when it comes to stereotypes. I know they exist and there some truth to it but do I have see it every time expand on it give some detail depth after all a stereotype is a human being and humans are complex creatures.
Anyway the second leads were in a relationship but I have not seen anything that makes want to learn their backstory or what the bond is that makes get back together. Usually I don’t like flashbacks but I think one is necessary here so that I can become more invested in them. Also the Madam Jo character, I just wish they had established a better reason why she does not like Ga Young. Like she envious because Ga Young is so talented and her time is fading and she just does not no why but she finds herself in admiration , and envious at the same time. With all that being said I’m totally invested in this show because of Yoo Ah In I’ve been waiting for him to be the lead in drama since 2009’s He who can’t marry. When his face was more chubbier and he wore BIG GLASSES. I don’t know why I just love guys in glasses. No matter what circumstances they through at me in in for the long haul.
I totally quoted wrong I just remembered its “Living truthfully under imaginary circumstances”. LOL
When you typed “Yoo In Ah”, I was distracted like crazy! Hehe
LOL
I’m watching Fashion King on that premise as well – many said the story & pace are all over the place – but to me, I’m feeling what you are feeling, the YAI factor. He made me feel the hardship, the struggle, the give it all even at the last minute through his acting.
I do think they have over-done the hardship part though and Jung Jr’s girlfriend is going to be downright mopey.
It helps that Ga Young and Jung Jr. are good actors to help compliment YAI. Hoping for turnaround soon.
Licia! *HUGS*
I’m so happy to see you today!
I must admit my envy for you to be watching as many dramas. I no longer have the time and I want to be with you sitting on a couch watching them by your side and chatting about them all!
I too heard about Si Won and the new drama. I’ll watch it. Hadn’t heard about Yoon Shi Yoon though. But yes, a lot of K actors/actresses go to where the money is to do the dramas. Kwan Sang Woo has been working a lot with Jackie Chan lately. Of course I think it’s good that they move around and get experience.
The Korean market is a bit over-saturated with actors/actresses because the have so many “idols” who do it all. I confess, I always feel bad for the actors when they hit the point where they are not popular anymore. To be in such demand and then suddenly nobody calls you anymore. It’s gotta be hard not to take it personally.
You know I had never thought of that before. With an idol you pull in more viewers. I mean a well established actor/actress has established fan bases. But what id that spot get taken. Thanks really informing
that dramas sounds like two kdramas I haven’t. I think one is called 18 vs 29 where the woman reverts to her 18 year old self after an accident and the other please come back soon ae where wife and younger mistress swap bodies. I actually started watching please come back soon ae and I might finish it now. What’s the point of vacation if you don’t become fat-eyed!
Wasn’t there a Korean drama with almost the same premise?
I have watched all episodes of RTP and I am enjoying it so far as well. I have only watched up to episode 3 of K2H, and after reading the recap of episode 4 yesterday, I didn’t feel like watching it. I am glad the villain wasn’t in that episode, though…
I didn’t fully understand what happened with Jae Ha, especially when he was trying to defuse the situation (when he was held by the collar) and what happened with the fake shooting. I will have to read it again and maybe watch the episode and maybe then I will get it. I was hoping the princess would be introduced this week, as mentioned on Dramabeans this week, but maybe that will happen next week? (I guess we will find out soon enough). I am wondering when the marriage will happen and what is the reason that will cause the king (his brother) to be out of the picture (illness, a coup, an attack).
I thought it was hilarious when Jae Ha gave a hard time to his brother (and was worried) when he thought his brother was thinking of having an affair with a North Korean woman. He was genuinely concerned, “what, sister-in-law can’t conceive? You are going to have a kid, right? Because I am definitely NOT eyeing your position (as a king)”
@ Hillary: ended up finding out that the actor who plays young Jae Ha was the one who played young Gun Jun Pyo in BOF, I checked and it is definitely him. His face has changed though. In BOF, his face is longer. In K2H, his face has gotten more square, like it expanded a little bit, that’s why I wasn’t sure it was him at first, because he looks a little different from 3 years ago. I guess he is still growing, and that is understandable and to be expected. The actor you thought played him (child Jae Ha) is actually playing the king’s character as a child. I also checked on that.
I cannot wait for the marriage to happen!
It’s one of my fav K-Drama tropes ever.
You know, I know we were only at episode 4 this week and that the writers are building the relationship between Jae Ha and Hang Ha (Sp?), but I would like to see them fall in love already because I want to see what it would look like. I know I should wait (and I am being patient), I am aware that we have 16 more episodes to go and they need to have something solid to say, not just be fillers, but I hope that when Jae Ha falls for HA, he falls really hard for her to make up for what he did to her in the past (and of course, I hope he will cry, more than once). I am getting a little tired of Jae Ha’s immaturity and I know he won’t change overnight (where would be the fun of seeing him grow and transform in front of our eyes?) but I guess now I understand why some people wait until a drama is done and subbed to start watching it. I have a friend who only watches dramas this way and it makes sense, when you badly want to see what happens next.
I also hope as was mentioned by JB or GF that HA won’t change down the line and that she will stay her strong self, while still being feminine and cute in front of her love interest.
I have said it yesterday (or two days ago) but I will say it again: I LOVE the Shi-Kyung character. Soooo cute and charming, and devoted and adorable and playing it straight (faced). I just love him. I really wasn’t impressed (read I didn’t like it) with the stunt Jae Ha pulled with the computer thing and blamed it on Shi-Kyung. Sooo childish, and after the way that Shi-Kyung keeps protecting him and saving his behind (treadmill incident, exercising for him etc…), I was a little annoyed with Jae Ha and with how he was behaving.
I have a question, because I am getting confused: is Shi-Kyung North Korean or South Korean? Because he is protecting Jae Ha as his prince or because the North Koreans feel that nothing should happen to the prince while he is under their care (while he was in North Korea)? (that would be bad for the North-South Korean relations, I am assuming…).
What was the point of the whole simulation conflict? I wasn’t sure about that. Were they rehearsing in case something like that ever happened? Why did the king have to show up, to cover for his baby brother, or were there other reasons? I am so confused…
Please (anyone), help me understand, thank you!
I love the characterization in this drama. You’ve got an immature prince who comes through when push comes to shove and then you’ve got a female soldier who squeals and does normal girly things with her friends. I love it!
I think (but I’m not too sure) that Shi-Kyung is South Korean. Somehow I don’t think any North Koreans in this drama would help Jae-ha. Borrowing Hang-ah’s words in the 2nd episode, they (the North Korean soldiers) were trained to kill Prince Jae-ha on sight.
The whole point of having the soldiers train together was for the reunification of North and South Korea. So I guess the simulation was a way to test if the soldiers can trust each other when an emergency occurs. If they can work together in stressful events then the countries have a chance to be united once again.
Gah. I’m so bad in explaining! Please correct me if I’m wrong, people.
Shi Kyung is South Korean, he is the son of the secretary to the King as shown in the first episode.
I think the simulation was triggered by the King’s fear of an external force sabotaging. In 2nd episode there is a scene in the gym where there is news that Belgrade (not exactly sure here) had a terrorist bombing and it was triggering a new war. Previously in one of the scene the villain in Club M mentioned they are planning something there.
Shi Kyung is the king’s head secretary’s son. The one in the wearhouse in the beginning, who the prince shot at. (His bio is hard to find on wiki-drama and only has a couple projects listed on hancinema, he’s doing a great job with such a short resume.)
The World Officers Contest (I think that’s the abb.) is probably headed by the UN. When the king received the message that they need to reevaluate the combination of the two countries’ teams, I think he wanted to do this simulation so that they will prove either way whether the teams can trust each other and get along to complete the contest.
That’s my understanding of it. Love this drama so much! Hard waiting for the next week.
I saw the preview for next week’s episodes and am pretty sure …
SPOILER ALERT FOR K2H
SPOILER ALERT FOR K2H
SPOILER ALERT FOR K2H
… Jae Ha admits that he loves Hang Ah and there is a wedding… So for next week only, I am streaming K2H live rather than R2P.
Also, to respond to your earlier post at 9, I thought that I read somewhere (probably on Soompi) that the King will be kidnapped (I don’t think he was killed) but could be wrong.
SPOILER ALERT
SPOILER ALERT
OK. I went and re-read Soompi thread and apparently the King was killed.
meant … streaming K2H live rather than RP… LOL.
SPOILER ALERT K2H
SPOILER ALERT K2H
SPOILER ALERT K2H
Hillary, I think that’s their FATHER, not the hyung.
SPOILER ALERT K2H
SPOILER ALERT K2H
SPOILER ALERT K2H
SPOILER ALERT K2H
@JoAnne the father is already dead. I was thinking the hyung was going to die, and that’s what will finally make Jae-ha mature and take responsibility.
That’s also why will most likely have wedding by next week
I just love SPOILER ALERTS!
Yea, I had thought that too when i saw the preview. His hyung must have been killed by the psycho club owner cuz that’s the only way for ja ha to step up and be King. otherwise, I think Ja Ha is happy just being the happy go play prince.
Hello Ivoire! Hope you are healthy and happy!
K2H is playing the card of the hot and cold. But what i love is that every issue is solved in one episode. The story moves on quite fast this way, and it’s more gripping, at least for me.
I was the glad the villain was not in the episode as much as well.I get it they are trying to have a real creepy villain that is a loose canon emotionally but I think you should always have a shroud of mystery around a villain cause if you see them to much and their eccentric like this one. I don’t get that feeling of “Oh my gosh what is the bad man going to do next”. I just want to forward his scenes.
Yeah, I personally hate the “Lex Luthor” kind of villain like the one in this drama, and the less we see of him the better
Ivoire ma belle! How are you? I haven’t kept current with your news. How are things on the job front. I can’t comment on k2h. I’m going to watch this weekend.
Hi everyone,
I have skimmed your responses but I have to go. so I will be back (hopefully) later to respond. Thank you, I appreciate your explaining K2H to me and that was helpful.
Hi Everyone!!
Hello there! *HUGS*
I cannot recall if we have met and my brain forgot. If not, please forgive me because your name looks very familiar to me.
Happy OT, rfc!!
Good to see you here.
Hey Beanies…. Happy Friday! (or Saturday, as the case may be)
Shuk! LOVE LOVE LOVE the story so far!
Ricky! We missed you last week, glad to see you made it this week. It’s funner …and funnier….when you’re here. Glad school is going well.
Raine! I’m excited to see what you’re cooking up!
Mystisith and Ivoire! Bonjour!
Cherkell: I hear ya on the rain thing. My sandy hill’s gonna wash away. But I was worried about fire season too (we’ve had two grass fires go across our property in the past) so I guess I”m relieved. Just ready to see the sun again.
SO, I had my last appointment with my main doctor yesterday and she said “I guess I’ll see ya in a YEAR”. Yay! I still have one more appt with the plastic surgeon/wound specialist on Tuesday, but last time, he popped in said “looks good!” and popped out. I’m sure I’ll get a $200 bill for that.’
Still have some friends staying with us as they transition. Lovely Armenian girl and her american husband. They were living with his mom, but she’s crazy/looney/witchy etc and they finally couldn’t take it anymore. They are paying us a little rent, waiting to hear from a job in Kansas City…they don’t wanna sign a lease here until they here one way or the other. They don’t have any kids yet, so they’re pretty quiet and seem to be really lovely people. We’re enjoying them. We played cards until way too late last night.
Everyone cross their fingers and toes, say prayers, Hail Mary’s,….whatever. Hubby is interviewing for a new job. It’s hard to change employers at his age, but the guys he works for have lied to us several times. So, we’re putting some feelers out…..
Now that Sprint has iPhones, we finally broke down and got iPhones to replace our “ghetto phones” (as hubby calls them). Fun toys, but taking up way too much of our time so far, lol. We didn’t get them when he was actually working at Apple, because so far, Sprint is the only carrier that gives us reception out in our corner of redneck country. We’ve had AT&T (The worst!) and Verizon in the past.
Dramawise: I’m following RTP, K2H, FK, and Operation Proposal. All of which I’m enjoying and all of which I’m getting behind on because of real life. Why couldn’t these all start a month ago when I had an excuse to sit around watching dramas?????
OK….gotta get up the rest of the house and get on with the day….
Hey Shel
I went and check last week’s OT and it feels pleasant to be missed.
It also made me feel like a superstar when I was mentioned in the post about Queen In Hyun’s Man. Heh.
How are you? Are you perfectly mobile now?
Have a good day and all the best to your husband.
I am perfectly mobile, and more importantly, no longer have a huge gaping hole…the doctors were right, it healed from the inside out. Very weird, and I was high skeptical, but there you have it. I attribute my rapid healing to lots of prayers, my awesome nurse/husband who had to re-stuff me full of gauze every night, a lot of laughing, and sheer determination. They told me 2 1/2-3 months to heal from that, but it’s only been about 6 weeks.
I snuck out of the house last weekend to see Hunger Games, though. Some things are just important, ya know?
HAHA How juvenile of you to sneek out. I love it!
And your spirit is so contagious!
I’m ashamed of my own monotonous life.
If it’s contagious, I hope you catch it, lol. School can be very monotonous, but after you get through it, on to bigger and better things, right!?
While you’re “getting through it”, laugh a lot, make time for your friends, make NEW friends, do something slightly irresponsible every occasionally, call your mom often, and don’t let too much get you down! I heard Marie Osmond say once, “You know when you say, ‘We’re gonna laugh about this later?’….I say you might as well laugh about it NOW!”
Ricky-oppa, fighting!
And the “slightly irresponsible” thing is relative. When I was in college, “slightly irresponsible” was deciding on a Friday night with my cousin to drive the 11 hours home overnight, so that we could see our families/friends…..playing all weekend and then driving back Sunday night after we ate our mothers’ Sunday dinners. Made for a tough day at work/school on Monday, but we needed it. Now, “slightly irresponsible” is sneaking out of the house to the movies when I’m supposed to be “recuperating”, or letting the homeschooler have the day off from quadratic equations so we can make cookies.
Drunk is over the top. People just get sloppy, say stupid stuff and don’t remember it in the morning. AND have a hangover for breakfast. How is that fun? (I was always the designated driver, I have lots of experience with drunks, lol)
I think I am one of those people who thrive on laughter. I swear, some people here give me dirty looks just because I laugh a lot. I’m not ashamed of my deep laugh lines. And I like making other people laugh as well. I can impersonate The Nanny’s Fran Fine’s laughter to a tee. Let me tell you, nothing cuts tension like a nasal laughter.
I think my “slightly irresponsible” thing is exactly that. I can be pretty vocal and jokey in class. Not exactly the class clown but rather the one who just can’t shut up. I’m too playful for my own good.
I was super shy in class until I was about a 10th grader in high school. Then I met a couple of friends that managed to bring out the silly me, to the consternation of a couple of teachers, lol. My friend, Mark, and I managed to get kicked out of accounting class to sit in the hall at least once a week. I still got an “A” in there, though. I think I would still be pretty quiet in class unless I had someone with me that I knew well. I’m not sure why that makes a dif, but I think it does.
Ricky! I wanna hear your Nanny Fran Fine impersonation, lol.
And laugh lines ARE THE BEST! It shows you have a happy personality.
I used to be the President of the ladies auxilliary at church. The previous pres warned me about the few “cranky old ladies” at church, but wouldn’t tell me who they were, cuz she didn’t want to prejudice me against them. But, I could tell the “cranky” ones from the pleasant ones because laugh lines make you look happy, even when you aren’t smiling. And, for the record, I even love the cranky ones…cuz they’re funny cranky, like Weezer in Steel Magnolias.
Absolutely. We all need catalysts to make us feel comfortable about showing our real selves.
Hi shel!
I love expensive good news when it comes to health. Easier to swallow. But i agree, specialists are not shy with the bills…
Doctors kill your ills with pills, then kill you with bills.
Amen. We have Ok insurance, but I’m sure it’s still gonna be a hefty bill. But, it’s OK, I feel vastly better than I did last fall before this long onslaught of health issues, and I say it’s worth every penny.
Plus, I got about six weeks of excuses to sit here and watch TV in between homeschooler math/science/geography etc.
I was just lurking around this OT as usual and read this and thought it was super random. I live and have grown up in KC. If you have any questions about here, let me know. I own this town… hahah… not really, but have a bunch of random knowledge about KC.
I”m not sure what company he’s waiting on, but I know he has a degree in psychology and works at a group home here for mentally challenged adults. But, the cost of living here is crazy high, and so he’s hoping that moving somewhere where it’s more “normal”, that they’ll be better off. Her family is out of the country, and he doesn’t get along so great with his mom here, so they don’t really care where they go. He’s been to KC and really liked it, so that’s one of their choices.
Good luck to them then. It’s good he likes it, but hope she does too. It’s definitely quieter and a slower paced life out here. And minorities are really a minority. Hahha… but it’s home to me and I love it.
Happy Friday all! OT Friday started early today. Must be because it’s close to Easter…or maybe not. Just about to step out for a bit to run some errands, but I’ll be back to be scandalized by all the comments once again.
Holla!
Cool, for once I’m not lucky #13! not that I’m against that or anything.
I finally have a chance to sit down and read all the OT comments while I sort through my kids’ Easter candy they got in school. Typing will keep me from eating the mountain of jellybeans they got in their baskets.
Random stuff:
-I’m totally digging Shinhwa’s Venus. Just another album I need to buy now. I just bought BIGBANG’s album not too long ago
-I got my 5 y/o daughter asking me to play Super Junior every now and then. I almost got a convert!
-Trying to get ingot K2H as I said before, but loving Rooftop Prince.
-I also finished watching Glory Jane/Glorious Jae-in/Young Love Jae-in/Man of Honor recently. Not too bad.
-I really miss those Eye Candy guys.
-It’s about to rain here in Atlanta, and I’m looking forward to it.
That’s it for now…
I keep thinking these days, how much I want Lee Dongwook and Lee Dahae to star together in a drama again!!! I cant think of a duo I wish to see together in a drama again so much as these two.. <3
I’d like to see LDW in a drama again, too, but since he’s starting to host Strong Heart soon, I don’t know how much time he’ll have. I mean Lee Seung Gi had to quit Strong Heart to do King 2 Hearts, right?
O.O I didnt think of that.. noooooooooo… waee?! Aish.. still, I need to see this couple again, and I think these days they both look at their best!!
Actually, LSG indicated that he did not quit Strong Heart to do K2H. He said in interview that he had been planning to quit it before but then the other host had to quit (tax problems then early retirement), so he stayed on until replacement could be found.
Ah interesting! Well, all good things, right? I guess you can host a talk battle show for only so long, huh? Anyway I hope LDW does well in Strong Heart. It seems like LSG is doing well in K2H. I heard KHD opened up a fried chicken restaurant, so I think he’s moving on just fine.
Happy Friday! Anyone watch Shinhwa comebank performance? Wow, I just watch their comeback on KBS Music Bank. It was deabak… and truly a legend idol. They dance better than the teen idol… That ajushi look smoking hot and so manly… love them.. and not to forget, Eric rapping voice is the sexiest ever on idol..
When was that? I wanna see what those guys are all about.
You can watch their music video. I saw it earlier thanks to uri Ricky
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1qWVQMbmk2U
Hah! Thanks for reminding me. Might download the whole episode.
Considering it has CN Blue and Big Bang as well.
I can’t wait to see Eric and Andy and Dong Wan and and and…
Eric, YongHwa, AND TOP/Daesung/GD/Seungri/Taeyang?
Oh I am so IN. Where can I watch this?
Very nice! I love TOP’s voice. soooo smexy. LOL Eric sure can rap but his voice isn’t as deep as Top.
We started our posts at the same time!
I put a link to the Venus MV down there.
Love Eric’s rapping..,
Eric…
So far, there are only two guys in Kdrama who make that weird feeling in the pit of my stomach when I see them. (Ok, and one teenage boy with aviators, Docs, and shaggy hair. I’m ashamed, but I’m honest.)
My Beloved is the first, and Eric is the second.
It’s not a pretty thing. There’s LOTS of them I think are pretty, or handsome, or sexy.
This is something different. Like the pheromones just come through the tv, or something.
I am curious to know who the other two are! Was it you who mined Rain??? I know someone has, but I forget who.
I agree Eric is super-sexy. It must be a burden to have THAT much sex-appeal, hahaha.
Latest person to make my heart thump at just a sight is Sung Joon! I realized after watching Personal Taste over that he made a cameo in one of the beginning episodes! It’s hilarious because back when I was watching this drama for the first time years ago I REALLY wanted to know who he was. That PT part was so small I didn’t even recognize him when I watched Lie to Me (aka that drama that wasted his talent :’[)
Off to watch ‘Personal Taste’. I had no idea Sung Joon had a cameo.
Lol! It’s super-tiny and silent! But his shirt is open!
Candi, yes, Rain is mine. I let Hillary pet him now and then if I’m not around, but otherwise, people can look but not touch. He is generally referred to as ‘My Beloved’
Eric does the same thing to my insides, they go all melty.
And the one I only whisper about is Neil, from Teen Top. And while I do kinda like him no matter what, it’s really only in the Crazy video that I get stupid. He’s younger than my daughter, thus the shame. But I figure if I don’t hide it, the sunlight will dry it up and blow it away. So I’m being brave.
Hahaha! It’s OK, I think I’m pretty sure I have an innocent crush on Yeo Jin-Ku. Definitely not even in my age group, at all.
A private mute conversation, heart to heart.
Do not disturb!
Whatever it is, I am also afflicted.
It is NOT a brain thing; it is a DNA speaking directly to DNA.
It means reproduction should be happening stat.
Just how do we make that happen, I have no idea.
pretty much how I feel. I see them, I think this:
I should be making babies with that man right now. It’s a genetic imperative.
“Officer, Officer!
You can’t stop me [forcing her way into Eric's bachelor pad]
The universe has spoken. We must mate!
[Being dragged down the hall]
It’s a genetic imperatiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiive!’
Well when you put it THAT way, I sound crazy.
@JoAnne & @Jomo: Girls you’re killing me. But I totally understand the feeling. My hormones are a little bit crazy lately, tho I blame it at being single
@ zgznoona I blame the Spring for that sudden increased libido. We are just flesh and blood after all.
JoAnne-You know I’m forever bitter that you got the jump on Rain, but I can’t help but to applaud you on your impeccable taste. You are like my kindred k-entertainment spirit
I love me some Eric and the fact that he’s GROWN just makes it worse.
You snooze, you lose! I actually begged for him from Raine, back when I first started here. Because her real heart belongs to Park Shi Hoo anyway, after all, as I pointed out to her. She couldn’t argue with my logic…plus I make her laugh.
omgosh I LOVE their comeback. I have their album on repeat ever since it came out, and the performances give me the chills.
I L-O-V-E “Hurts” and how Eric kinda changed the rap rhythm at a certain part while singing live!!!
And Dongwan *o* his voice…. SO F GOOD!!!
Love love LOVE them!!!
Is anyone watching Channel A’s Immortal Classic? I found it funny that with the current trend in medical dramas, Han Jae Suk’s character plays a neurosurgeon? The males of the family go into medicine while the females continue the kimchee tradition? Apparently, Park Sun Young’s character is also a doctor, but focuses on eastern/oriental medicine.
However, I am confused on the parent generation. Anyone who is watching care to explain that?
Okay loves. I’m off to teach. I’ll visit again tonight when I’m watching K2H! <3<3
okay. I need help deciding something. I need to switch out winter-running gear to spring and summer set. I think I got the tracksuit infection from kdramas, so I am thinking of getting a really flashy one.
which one would I pick? Red, green, yellow, blue….or sequined?
oh, wasn´t there a purple one somewhere? Shut up, Ha-Jin, yes?
Ahh…. but I should get a red one. Just imagine a natural redhead in a red tracksuit running along the beachside.
I would take a sparkling red tracksuit. But I would have to drink some strong alcohol before leaving the house…
beats going running with a hole in your pants though.
I might sew somnething, then I can have it however flashy I want. red and black with ….something…. maybe?
heh. I’m thinking you should go with the Hyun Bin inspired one. That might lead to either some really weird looks or some great start up conversations.
I am really tempted. but Estonia is a very conservative country….
You can try the Lithuania flag colors, lol: yellow, green and red.
But leopard print works too!
A little leopard print ALWAYS works!
I wish I could find pink leopard print somewhere. That would really blow their minds. Plus a hood with furry cat ears.
I think you should get yellow or green with blue and white stripes.
but Eun Bi in FlowerRamyun wore the regular navy blue… ah I dont know. I should have one for my every mood swing. or they should make a very split personality track suit
HELLO AND HAPPY FRIDAY!!!
Super happy because I just came back from an exam and havent gotten rid of that high of nerves
1. I have to do this project for one of my classes where you analyze a website and write about how identity, communication, and people intersect.
Any possible websites I can do? The examples my professor gave were reddit, 4chan, dating sites, fanfiction.net, etc.
I honestly dont know where to start; I ~was~ going to analyze the convergence between tumblr and fan-communities and how people use social networking to fuel participation. Or how internet filters facilitiate “groupism” by isolated information that could potentially counter/widen your worldview. I was also thinking about looking at kpop websites and talking about international identity (because, then, it wouldnt really be work since I’m always on those websites anyway).
2. “Currently” Watching: Grimm, Psych, Blue Bloods, BreakOut Kings, Community, Supernatural, Hart of Dixie, Avatar: Legend of Korra, King2Hearts, etc. Any thoughts on any of these?
Kind of impressed with the steampunk nature of Legend of Korra.
http://www.timburtoncollective.com.
once infamous and lively, now kind of died out. knocked down by many spam attacks. degraded through the invasion of ignorant fan-babies who are obsessed with Corpse Bride or Charlie and the chocolate factory.
once very close-knit with a core leader group and sidekicks.
ahh….the beginning of my internet life…
Wow, that’s crazy. Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll check it out. I reminds me of all of those “internet archaeologist” papers I am currently reading where they find a “deadzone” that once had a thriving “population”. The most popular examples are Myspace and Xanga haha
LOVE Community! Such a hilarious & smart show. Sometimes they just pull out episodes that blow my mind and it even gets a little heartwarming. So glad they took it off the bench, don’t know what NBC was even thinking with that one.
I watched A:LoK too and it was great. It seems that it’ll soon be all about Korra getting in touch with her spiritual side eventually, since that’s the side she’s not too in touch with as well as those modern/city fighting styles. Love that this avatar is completely the opposite of the last. Hot-headed, female, a fighter first. It’s a nice change that makes a story really feel like it is continuing and not just a sequel.

If you like Community you might want to check out my friend’s art. He’s a big Community fan.

So cool!
Exactly! Community is one of those few shows that can make me chuckle and feel warm to realize that I’m not the only nerd lol. Some of my favorite episodes are Debate 101, Epidemiology, Paintball (all three episodes), etc. It’s a great show and I’m glad all the internet mobilization is getting more attention on the show.
And, yea, I like that it’s the flipped version of Season 1. With Aang a monk, it’s cool that they took a step in a new direction for Korra. More than our lead heroine, I’m already loving the Air Bending master’s children. Absolutely adorable. I’m not sure how I feel about Mako, however. They’re almost setting him up to be Zuko 2.0… only, Zuko I feel utter sympathy for. Mako isn’t bad (he apologised, he acknowledged her efforts, etc) but seems to be the broody badboy loner from the get-go, a characterization that is annoyingly popular these days.
Hahaha, he does, but it’s still too early to tell. I also love the children! You think they would be so calm, cool, and collected. I love how hyper and curious they are. The boy cracks me up! I loved it when Tenzen asked his daughters to not be like Korra when they become teenagers and one replied “I will make no such promises.” HAAA! XD
Where did you watch Legend of Korra? Any online sites?
I was such an Avatar fan. I’m an awesome water-bender, you know. Hehe
http://www.goodanime.net/category/avatar-the-legend-of-korra
A thousand episodes worth of appreciation to you, topper!
You’re welcomed, I’ll gladly accept a thousand episodes of good dramas. I’ll subtract the next 16 episodes from that for King 2 Hearts in advance, please writers do not fail me. LOL
Yes, please!!!
I also watched it at http://www.korranation.com–it‘s part of the nick website so the first two episodes are in one video and it’s high quality if anyone else wants it
Thanks!
haha, a water-bending master eh?
That reminds me of the debates I used to have as a kid with my friends. I think I always chose earth…dunno why.
I like the idea of water-bending. The versatility and different forms of it. It can be used for good, i.e healing and it can also be deadly and ethically wrong, i.e blood-bending.
Earth-bending is cool too, especially after Toph invented metal-bending.
I may have just revealed my Avatar-obsessed tendencies.
Why not write about THIS site? In addition to the normal posts, the OT has evolved from a Friday morning thing to (pretty much) a Friday thru Sunday thing, with offshoots of relationships into twitter, FB, email, and real life. And we might be the only fan forum anywhere that hosts actual movie nights.
hmm…that’s definitely an interesting thought. I dont know how I can construct that into a thesis though. Can we call ourselves a community/collective? I can definitely see it, but we also have a considerable floater population… No doubt, though, alot of javabeans’ stuff has translated well back into soompi and influenced a lot of people when she did the shift.
It’s something to think about.
What about Soompi … the kdrama threads. Now that is a lively community with all sorts of interesting issues and arguments erupting every day.
I second that. They are extremely lively over at soompi.
Alvina –
You can look at this site like opening Google Maps:
- First there’s the entire spherical world (How ever many hundreds / thousands of people that tap into the Javabeans community overall)
- Then smaller groups that focus on a particular actor / show/ music.
- Then several dozen that show up for Friday OT faithfully.
- And within those few, we exchange personal life experiences, cultural references, and tiny slices of ourselves.
- At at the very tip of the pyramid, there are individuals (like our Miami contingent) who meet face-to-face, and who probably would have never met if it hadn’t been for this site.
For me personally, it has a awesome greatness to touch people from countries I’ll never see annd get a glimpse of what their life is like.
Still, I wanted to put in my humble opinion.

Sorry to wax rhapsodic, coming off a night of little sleep.
Good luck with your project!
True dat, JoAnne.

That, and The machine tastes nice.
And now i dance with my butt stuck in my shabby armchair. With a cup of capuccino on the left hand. Will let you know the outcome…
LOL
You can do the hand movements the girl dancers are doing during the first chorus. The ones where they touched/tapped/caressed Shinhwa’s torsos. HAHA
I’m sure none of the girls “missed” their steps on that part. Hee! It’s always the men who take advantage of the situation in dramas, in order to get their prey. I say i want to see the other version!
If you look at the choreography closely, you can see pelvic thrusts as well. HAHA
First thing I said when I saw that was
“HEY! Those hands are awfully low!”
And they linger for far too long, in my opinion.
Oooh, Ahjussi Idols still got the moves!
I love the choreography.
Me too….that was awesome. Even my teenager is impressed “even though they’re old”. Whatever.
Old? They’re like what? 30-ish?
To a 15 yr old, they’re old. EVEN though, she’s obsessed with ROBERT DOWNEY JR of all people, who is even older. She’s nuts.
There’s a new boy band here called One Direction that all of her friends are obsessed with. She’s countering it with Shinee, old SS501 (cuz there isn’t any new), 2 AM. She even made a K-Pop T-shirt. She’s funny…..she’s always anti-whatever-the-latest-thing is…hates Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus. She listens mostly to the same pretty obscure bands as her brother: Bayside, Eisley, Regina Spektor, Paramore, Evanescense…..he gave her several thousand MP3′s, all screened for bad language (he’s very protective of his little sister).
One Direction? Some of my friends are into them as well. I tried watching one of their videos but the tight pants and poofy hair didn’t reel me in. LOL I just described a large population of Kdrama and Kpop guys. To be blunt, I just think they suck.
And yes, Robert Downey Jr is ancient compared to Shinhwa.
She says they suck, too. She doesnt’ get the all the “hoo hah” as she calls it. But, I’m guessing if she thinks Robert Downey Jr is cute, then those One Direction boys got nothin’ for her, lol.
I hope she doesnt’ end up marrying some guy older than me, lol.
No, my daughter has always thought RD Jr was hot. Which he IS and always has been, so…props to me for bringing her up with the taste to recognize it.
She also likes Regina Spektor and went through a Paramore and Evanescence phase…tell your daughter to check out Angels and Airwaves (re-think of Blink 182) and Mika.
Currently she varies between classical, indie rock (think Iron & Wine, Oh Brother (ESPECIALLY Oh Brother), Manchester Orchestra, Foster the People, Mumford & Sons, stuff like that) and then her beloved dubstep. Oh and there’s a big push for Zoe Keating in our house again since she’s going back out on tour, but that’s …I dunno what you’d call it. It’s contemporary cello.
My 16 year old has a crush on RD, Jr. and Jude Law from watching Sherloclk Holmes.
I told her to watch him in Chances Are (1989)
He plays a major noonah-killer in that with Cybill Shepard.
She’s been hooked since Ironman….but she has a list of “old” movies to watch now. Makes me laugh, “old” movies have Cary Grant and Gregory Peck, not RDJ, lol.
Old enough so I don’t feel inappropriately attracted.
HAHAHAHA *buttocks vibrate*
Dude they’re like 31 or 32-ish. My brother’s age. ACK.
Duuuuude, with brothers like that , girls would only use me to get to them.
WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH tHANK YOU!
I have heard a few of the songs but hadn’t seen any videos.
DYING…grown men (handsome men) dancing and singing! LOVE
Eric. sigh…
But I did keep getting pulled out of the video by this thought:
Why is Yoochun in this all of a sudden? Oh yeah…that’s Andy…but more importantly, where’s ERIC?
And they are soooooo cool in their suits and sliding feet.
You really should watch their variety show then. Eric was being incredibly cute and very much 4D in his actions (as always). I’m sure it’s eng subbed already and floating online.
I loooooved that. Now I’m gonna be humming the chorus all day.
I have had it on repeat all day as I do other people’s expense reports…
Bopping to Eric BLOWING MY MIND!
Just saw the video. Now I feel like buying their album. Grrreeaaattt…
I’m not that much into Kpop but my nieces are and they are loving Shinwa. I had never, ever heard of them, but I was impressed by both their video and music. Actually I liked the fact that they had adult faces and great bodies, combined with teen idols moves. Whole package.
Hiiiii guys! Happy Friday~ I love the weekend, lol.
I actually should be working. I’ve been hired to do some freelance work and today is the day I’ve decided to do my final touches before I send in all the designs I did. YAY for getting paid for doing something that I love!
But, I watched Chilling Romance and I loved it. It was so cute! And sometimes, yes, terrifying. I definitely jumped once or twice. I think that director knew a few things about horror.
Haven’t tried any of the new dramas yet, because I think some of you know my drama-rule LOL, but can’t wait! They sound awesome! Really hoping that Marriage Plot and Standby will get subbed too (: I also think that Dramafever may be picking up Glowing She????? I bookmarked a link to ep.1 on youtube and checked it and apparently it was taken down by them. Needless to say my face was filled with mixed emotions at that point. Happy/disappointed/excited. Hahahaha
Candi!! Happy Friday!
Chilling is getting a lot of positive play in OT. I haven’t seen it yet, but now I’m feeling compelled.
Happy Friday Shuk!
You must! It’s really good and funny. I think I cried in some parts so it’s touching too. I wish America had romantic comedies like this. Horror+romance+comedy doesn’t seem like it would mesh well but the director did a really good job. Also it’s pretty to look at
Hello buddy! I wait for the week end too! What do you design exactly?
Chilling Romance was a nice ride for me too. I can’t resist weird couples, may it be in dramas or in real life. It’s just so more interesting. EXOTIC.
Hi Mysti! Well, I designed some t-shirts for a store
I sent them everything just now and am waiting to see what they say. Apparently my client is super picky, but I thought what his store needed with their gear was something different that stood out so I gave them that (and some plainer things).
I love weird couples too
And they made such an endearing one. Loved that the ghosts had stories too and they weren’t just following around to create mischief.
do you ever send anything in to Threadless?
I have not, but maybe one day I will! Threadless is a whole other ball park, the talent over there is lightyears beyond my own right now!
Happy Friday canxi!
I still have to watch Chilling Romance but for some reason I can’t get Lee Min Ki out of my mind as Byung Hee from SUFBB. haha…
Hahaha! That cameo was really strong, I’m not surprised. That’s the thing I like about him–he makes his time on screen count and then when he’s gone you really miss him! But his acting in CR will help you forget some
Pitch-perfect as always!
Hi canxi!
I liked chilling romance too! ^_^ It was funni and scary at the same time. LOL does that make since? I even laugh at parts that suppose to be scary.
Have good weekend!
*sense. haha
Hi cv!!!
I did too. I still have it on my computer so I can watch it again, lol.
Makes perfect sense!
Happy Friday Everyone!
I think Christmas came early for my little saguek-loving heart as God of War/Mushin/Soldier is now showing on Dramafever. I guess all that campaigning worked! I haven’t started it yet but I am planning to this week as it has received extremely good reviews.
Still in my Alec Su obsessed marathon mood so am currently watching Princess pearl 1 & 2.
I havent watched any of the wed-thur dramas yet as am still in a wait-to-see mode but am leaning towards King-to-hearts.
Watched Hunger Games on Monday and was surprised to see that the theater was pretty full. It exceeded my expectations although there were some stuff I wish they could have explained better for people who never read the books.
I envy those who get to watch the Hunger Games. The nearest theater is an hour away.
Probably makes it easier to not ditch schoolwork in favor of the latest flick, though, huh! I spent way too much time in movie theaters in college. I had a friend who was going into computer aided animation…which was a VERY new thing back then….late 80′s….and we saw nearly everything that released cuz it might have something computer generated in it, lol. LOTS of midnight movies, cuz they were cheap, made for difficulties staying awake in Economics, lol.
When you said “ditch schoolwork” I was reminded about something my mom said to me a long time ago…that she used to skip class to watch the latest movie by her favorite actors when she was in college…haha…
I’ll be watching it this weekend! ^^ yay!!! I hope it’s as good as the book.
ricky, take some time off and go see wth friends? That’s what I’ll be doing.
So envious of you!
My friends are mostly gone. It’s an unlucky weekend for me because all of them are back to their hometowns and I have to eat alone. I’ll be nursing my lonely soul with a cup of kimchi ramyun.
WHY YOU ALL LEFT, CHINGU-YA?!
awwww… poor oppa! If only u live closer, we can all go together. ^^ Cheer up. Maybe u can go see it next weekend with them? or wait until it comes out on DVD.
But I think this movie is good to watch on the big screen.
Not to worry. I have a lot of things to do this weekend to actually dwell on the fact that they left. The weekend just zips through like that.
Yeah, I kinda figured it would be better to watch it on the screen too.
hahhhaha oh, Ricky, I just had this sudden flash of ‘forever alone’ – are you familiar with it?
God of War is really good. It has a cast of thousands and there are a LOT of familiar faces. A lot of very good Sageuk actors.
Happy Friday to all my DB friends and family:D It’s been a while since I have been on the OT. Life has been hectic.
I’ve missed all of you!!!! I hope you all have a fabulous weekend. I plan to kick mine off with a nice hot cup of coffee and fresh bread from my new bread maker. The best part is that I will be watching Rooftop Prince with my best friend this morning. (She made me promise not to start watching it without her) I’m so excited, everyone has told me it is fantastic so far
Pooh Bear Hugs to all!!!! <3
You’re in for a treat with Rooftop Prince… totally cracking so far!
Welcome back to the OT!
Thank You
Me too…I am laughing a lot while watching that show. Han Ji Min’s character is so much more animated than her character in Padam Padam. I actually like her acting like a mom to those 4 Joseon dudes.
I know… I like HJM’s character a LOT better than the passive one she played in Padam Padam.
Watched episode 3… have to say, I’m not a fan of grandma. And the two antagonists (HJM’s sister and TY’s cousin)… and think they’ll soon get on my nerves.
But love everything with HJM and the four Joseon boys!
Welcome back, lessaofpern!
Nice to officially greet you
Thank You
We met a while back. You know most of my Facebook Kdrama folks group: Diadda, Jomo, Okie Dokie,
Brookeeve, Viola , Theasianstalker, Pipit , djes , pohonphee, YY, Leonardswench, splgt001, AmbieH , Lisah and Claire Kimchee
We did?! Cool.
Yes, the manes are familiar to me.
DARN!
Names. Not manes.
Stupid sageuk thoughts are messing with my grain.
Brain. I meant brain. Not grain.
Oh, I give up!
lmao!
RtRH -You can’t even blame autocorrect on that one!
LOL
Kdramas can turn any brain into mush. *pats ricky thr on the back* there …. there, it’s O.K. it’s happened to all of us.
Hello L of P!
Nice to see you on the OT. You are going to laugh with RP!
Have fun and let us know what your theories are on the little mysteries.
JOMO!!!!!! HUGS!!!! Jennifer’s son is home sick with the flu, so we can’t watch it together today. We were supposed to start it last week, but her daughter had the flu.
It’s killing me to wait this long!!!!! I have to keep reminding myself that I PROMISED to watch it with her. (She also made me promise that I would watch it for the for the first time with her, so no watching ahead for me
)
SIGHS….. Patience is a virtue….. *repeats every five minutes
That sucks.
Is there anything esle you have been meaning to watch?
Are you watching K2H with a surprisingly sexy LSG?
Operation Proposal ended – you could marathon that.
I am going to watch 15 and 16 together when I get home.)
Operation Proposal Marathon planned for Monday!!!!
I’m late! I’m late! I don’t even know what I was doing to be so late. Happy weekend everyone! I’m lost in old dramas, netflix added some to their dvd collections and I started an old one with a young jang hyuk and kim hyun joo called Into the sunlight. Between discs I’m also finally watching return of iljimae. I’m not liking it as much as I liked lee jun ki’s iljimae but it does have nice moments. Sometimes I think I must have fallen asleep and missed something but mostly it’s worming its way into my heart.
I met up with mywei this week. I was glad to experience dramabeans in real life and we ate at a korean restaurant in korean town ( typical k-town experience) and rambled about swapping drama stories.
Next week I’ll finally see Niagara falls in real life, we decided to go through canada, first time there too. I feel slightly obligated to bring a camera, but I’ll probably forget it.
Best Drama Wishes!
Welcome ahjummabunny!
.
I have the feeling the OT this week will live long
So much activity in dramaland… My head is spinning.
I love Jun Ki, maybe i should check iljimae before he starts arang, even if sageuks are not my cup of tea.
lee joon ki’s iljimae is pretty funny and it’s not as long as typical sageuks, but it does have the sageuk deaths.
You get to meet a fellow Dbeaners? How cool!
Best Drama Wishes to you too!
Hola, ahjummabunny! Always good to see that you are doing well.
hey,
is this week movie week?
As far as I know, yes. I’ll be running rescue, so I may or may not be watching based on someone dialing 911 (or 112?).
–
Everyone is talking about screening “Chilling Romance”. but it’ll need to be confimed by the Movie Noonas.
So no whimpering or foot-stomping – hee!
Sorry gals, I’m gonna have to beg off for Movie Noona Night. I forgot that my attendance is needed at a friend’s 40th birthday party tonight. I’ll finish watching some other time, so enjoy!!
They are talking about Chilling Romance, but I won’t be able to do it this week due to church obligations. I’m kind of bummed, but I’ll go watch it on my own.
In real life DB meet ups are fantastic. I have had three so far
I also plan to meet four beaners at the L.A. Kpop festival next months.
I’m more excited about the meetup than I am the actual concert.
Aww…makes me wish I was in L.A. for that.
wow! lucky u!
wish i could go to a kpop concert or festival. It’s too bad I live too far from those places.
Oooh! I’ve seen Niagra Falls too.
If you’re in Canada, you’ll be able to see people walking through it too with slickers on
. You totally get splashed even if you’re no where near it,lol. Not drenched splashed but you’ll feel water. Bring a camera! It’s really pretty! I took lots of pictures of it when I went.
but a camera is for tourists! I live in the state, so I don’t need to photograph it since I can see it anytime.
Oh! Are you Canadian?? That makes sense then XD I was there from New York, so I had a camera with me lol
Morning All!
I’m actually late today. Office is moving around, so I atually had some work to do today
Loving all the new dramas out there:
K2H is my crack.
RTP is hilarious, but I’m a little leary about the Prince’s grand announcement at the end.
Skip Beat-Gah…whoever suggested this to me last OT is in for a beating. I was all ready to marathon this. I was even late for work because I wanted to watched the last episode, but friggin’ hell it’s not finished yet!! So now I’m stuck waiting for the last episode. Not happy.
Love Rain- Still debating on whether or not I can handle the cheese factor.
Currently fascinated with KPop. Not the music per se. I can count on both hands how many songs I actually like. I’m interested in the idols themselves. It’s fascinating. I know it’s all a show and it kind of reminds me of old Hollywood. Scandal is not tolerated, only the pretty is visible. It’s only after the people have died do you realize how nutty things were behind the scenes. On one hand I feel sorry for them, but in the other I kind of wish that our stars here in the US still held that kind of mystery. Knowing all about our celebrities kind of takes away the glamour and appeal. Some artist I can’t even listen to because I can’t stand their real life personality. It’s all very interesting to me.
Mornin’! It’s actually 6pm here, and i’m enjoying the incredibly sunny day by the window.
I bet next week we will learn Skip Beat runs for 16 eps… It’s also driving me crazy! Die already, show!
@Cruelsummer: Sorry about Skip Beat. I was surprised like hell when I realized that they still had at least 1 more episode. As of last week, every website that provided information said that it was 14 episodes. Viki still has it listed at 14 episodes and wikipedia at 15 episodes. DramaWiki took out the number of episodes entirely from their description … LOL.
“I’m interested in the idols themselves. It’s fascinating.”
I find it all… rather scary. I’m not sure I would compare it to Old Hollywood, I think the fact that now there is media that watches everyone and everything 24/7 makes it quite different – what was mystery due to not knowing then nowadays is mystery due to a mask that is put on, hiding things away and pretending because you are under constant scrutiny.
I find that very troublesome…
I completely agree. It’s super scary, but that’s what I find so fascinating. Sorry, I’m the morbid sort. It makes me wonder what happens when they’re not idols anymore. It makes me think about the Korean society’s hand in creating these masked, shiny creatures. Who knows what horrors hide behind the mask. You would have to have a very strong character in order to make it out of k-stardom unscathed.
It makes me think of Joo Ji Hoon and his downfall. Nobody can tell me that he was the only one getting his party and drugs on. I’m sure he took the fall for a lot of people. I wonder what kind of threat (or incentive) they gave him to keep his mouth shut. Fascinating.
I misunderstood your ‘fascinating’ then! I thought you meant it in a positive way!
You’d need a strong character… or be willing not to climb to the very top. That reminds me of Kim Jae-Wook again, and his message before entering the army, which sounded like ‘I need a break from this because I don’t want to end up losing myself’.
I guess what’s needed is more stars willing to be themselves, and standing up for this. But it always seems like it’s one or two only and then they get isolated. Like that actress (can’t remember her name) that spoke out about drama-filming conditions, with no one else really coming out in support although it would be in their own benefit…
Also reminded of E J-yong’s docudrama ‘Actresses’ (reviewed it a couple of weeks back on my blog) which was supposed to be all about bringing out what’s behind the mask, what happens offstage, but I felt that although there were hints of this, by and large, the actresses were guarded, still worried about their careers…
I’ll have to stop by your blog to check out your review.
It seems to me that they (the fans/netizens) aren’t interested in real people. They want the pretty dolls that they can dress up and do their bidding/fan service. It makes me wonder if actors/actresses may have a little bit more (not much) freedom than idol singers. Those poor kids are just puppets.
Are you talking about Han Ye-Seol by any chance? She’s the only one I could remember who did that even though it may not have been in the best way.
I also think that the fans don’t really regard them as real people sometimes. Like that crazy “fan” who slapped Yoochun “to be remembered”. That was weird and so unbelievable.
@canxi… I can’t remember. I know she was mentioned in a 2-part article on hancinema.net on the “Dark Side of Korean Drama”.
The “fan” (fan????) who slapped Yoochun… I do not understand people like that. (Whatever happened to that “fan”? Anyone know?) Or people who hate their idol’s boyfriend/girlfriend. It’s just wrong, wrong, wrong and very, very disturbing.
Ya know I never thought that was real. The crazy of the fans and netizens that is. I thought it was all Kdrama fiction.
I find it scary how one fall step could be the end to a career even if its something innocent like a girlfriend/boyfriend. I don’t understand the “scandal” in such a situation. Makes me think of the showbiz aspect of Korea to be very strict and old fashioned. I guess it has a lot to do with the culture.
@Noelle — some fans are crazy over there. You kind of get a bit of it over here in America with Justin Beiber, lol. But, yeah, I think lots of idols aren’t allowed to date for a while because it’ll cause a decrease in popularity or something and then SCANDAL. Any little thing they do besides singing and dancing (entertainment related stuff) seems to cause such a decrease.
And in many cases what Jomo is saying below.
It’s true for many girl groups I feel they’re is an unusual amount of sexualization going on that I don’t like. The only 2 girl groups I’ll watch and listen to really are f(x) and 2NE1 since they don’t really have that aspect (although Minzy of 2NE1 was a bit scandalous in the beginning before YG told her she had to tone it down: respect there!) But I think the entertainment industry over there has a lot to do with aesthetics and so people don’t really take the time to look at all the behind the scenes stuff because SPARKLE.
I’m sure not all the idols go through the same hardships w/ their companies but it’s still disheartening.
I agree on it being scary and troubling. It is difficult for me not to go into parent mode when I read about them.
(Please do not read this if you like your KPop. It is written by the parent of teenagers, not a fan…)
I like the dancing beats, the pretty words, and catchy tunes, I don’t want to know anything about the singers. When I do, I feel guilty of exploiting child labor, because that is what most of them had to endure to end up on that stage singing those songs.
I don’t want to read any of the nonsense I sometimes read on allkpop or soompi “news.” It goes beyond voyeurism.
What would you call it when the fans’ desires/insecurities get projected onto these kids? When the fans force the idols to select their ideal or force them to confess embarrassing facts about themselves.
Do I really want to hear that IU’s hair is falling out from the stress?
Do I want to know that [Insert tiny bodied person here] struggles with her weight because she loves to eat spicy rice cakes?
And when they smile sweetly on talk shows, but don’t complain about the last three months they trained for 12 hours daily to prepare for their come back, I want to fly over to SK, drag their parents into the studios for that many hours and ask, “Is this what you think is a GOOD life for your child?” You allowed your precious daughter to have plastic surgery at 15, allowed these lecherous men teach her how to move like a stripper, signed the slave labour contract because she was a minor, and you cringe hearing that she fainted from exhaustion on her world tour.
And, really? The fanservice for the boy bands may be cute, but who is the audience for boys kissing? I know I run contrary to popular opinion on this, or maybe not because of the outcry against Shinee’s latest promo pics for Sherlock.
I don’t feel the managers are properly protecting their artists. They are selling them to the highest bidder and looking the other way as far as the fall out. Car accidents, sexual abuse, physical harm, constant attacks on their self-esteem, drug/alcohol use, complete loss of privacy. That is how I see the K-pop scene.
I put blinders on to enjoy the music, I’ll admit. And I am happy when bands like Shinwha manage to survive intact 15 years after their debut. Whatever success they can enjoy now, they have earned every penny of it.
Amen! I can’t imagine what the parents are thinking. It could be for financial gain or the pride of having an idol child in such a beauty ridden society. Perhaps I too should put on blinders and enjoy the body rolls because if you think too hard about it, it’s rather horrifying.
Happy Friday, everyone!
I… am not really watching anything at the moment – just Prosecutor Princess, now that High Kick 3 has ended.
I think I’m actually in mourning for HK3 because, well, it’s over and it was a part of my life for so long… But on the plus side, the last three episodes were great on the Ji-won/Kye-sang front (feelings revealed! presents! looks! letters!) and now that the show is over, no-one can convince me that they didn’t get together in the end. (I’m a shipper: I’ll bear it out even to the edge of doom.)
And now it’s the weekend, the sun is shining, there are chilled drinks in the fridge… life is good.
Hi Jules! You made it!
Hi Shuk! I did make it, after weeks of not being able to join in due to RL insanity.
I hope you’re having a great Friday!
Hello OT Friday Fam!!!
I hope every one has been watching the newest crack addictions in Kdramaland ex: RoofTop Prince, King2Hearts, Fashion King, Equator Man, etc.
I happen to have a really strong addiction to K2H, omg now that’s how you do a show. I love everything about this show. Ahhh is it Wed yet?
Hope all is well, healthy and ready to enjoy their weekend free from stress!!!
Saranghue
Hey, KStyle -
Yes, OT has been hummin with K2H / RP / EM talk. It’s hard to think that they are all going head to head with each other.
Hola OT’ers! I hope everyone had a good week. Mine was looooonnnnnnngggg. Pilot season is over so for the next month or so it will be slow until the Fall schedules are announced. Perfect opportunity to catch up on dramas!!! I am making a conscious effort to keep myself current. I can’t wait to watch Rooftop Prince and King 2 Hearts. I’ve read the recaps and they sound interesting. I’m gonna give Equator Man a shot but I’m not sure about it. I haven’t heard much about it and the stuff I have heard has been really mixed.
I hope everyone has a GREAT weekend!!!
Hola Beanies!
No internet at home all week (except for occasional spotty minutes) so I am WAY behind and this is the extent of my watching this week:
Episode 1 and part of 2, RTP; Episode 1 and part of 2, K2H; Episode 1 of EM.
Slammed at work trying to explain the theory behind some of what I was doing to the people who will be doing it. They know the what’s, but don’t really understand the overarching ‘why’ of particular things, and some of it is just…you just kind of have to have a feel for it. Already training on the new position. AND still doing all my stuff from the old job, so it’s been hectic. But it’s good.
Dinner tonight with my parents and my daughter, internet hopefully resolved tomorrow and YES to a Movie Night for Chilling Romance if that does get to happen. No other real plans for the weekend beyond catching up on my dramas. And downloading every MV of Shinhwa I can find to further fuel my Eric love. He will fill the gaping hole left by My Beloved’s mililtary service.
Good thoughts out to uri OTers looking for homes and new jobs and studying hard for tests and healing from crud and wounds!
Raine – here’s to cute music students!
I’ll be back, but probably much much later. Tomorrow night later, probably.
Hi there everybody.
Looks like I’ll have to give RTP another go.
I’m not really sure of all the elements in K2H but I’m enjoying it.
Dream High, My Fair Lady, and My Girlfriend is a Gumiho are showing on the telly so I’m enjoying those.
Apart from that it’s Spring with warmer temperatures, plum blossoms and
everywhere so life is good.
Happy weekend, DBers
Now that I’m on vacation, I really should spend more time watching K-dramas. Except that I can’t use the DVD player during the day because my mom and aunt get mad if they miss their favorite local soaps (especially Angelito). As for the computer, it’s in the same room as the TV, so bummer. I end up staying up late at night (midnight, after the night’s episode of City Hunter on local dub) just to get in a few episodes before my mom wakes up and finds me still awake and chases me off to bed. Sigh. Anyway, the previous weeks I finally finished the Taiwanese drama Fated to Love You (Sorry, Ethan Ruan, you’re cute, but I love Ming Dao better) and this week I took up He Who Can’t Marry, again, because I still hadn’t finished it.
Tomorrow is going to be rather busy because a cousin who lives with us is graduating from college so all his siblings are in the house (they’re orphans, and each of them is a goddaughter or godson of my parents or my aunts). There’s talk of going out to lunch after the ceremony, so won’t probably get online till late afternoon and even then it will be bedlam.
Have you tried headphones? I always watch with them.
Ahaha, unfortunately the ones I have won’t fit the new computer. I’m between jobs at the moment and just finished moving back home so I’m still adjusting to being back with my family after seven years and kinda short of cash. Plus, if I’m in the same room I keep getting interrupted with requests to fix baby bottles and get diapers and stuff. It’s better at late night, no one interrupts, and I just keep the volume low.
Anyway, just got back from lunch. Roast chicken.
The relatives are all leaving because they’ll have another celebration at home, so whew. Now if only the baby will stop shrieking three feet away from my ear…
Hi
Can someone explain to me why the Sister in Law in Unexpected you is hiding the evidence that the Doctor is in fact her sisters? long lost son.
I don’t really understand what she stands to benefit from this?
She doesn’t have any children of her own?
Thanks
Her motivation is yet to be revealed – but it’s a pretty sure thing that she’s the one who kidnapped him.
Thanks
I’m really getting into this series although quite why I couldn’t say.
Random Rooftop Prince Conjectures ^^: (because guessing is fun~~)
Remember the great chemistry between Yi Gak (ancient Yoochun) and Buyong (ancient Han Ji Min) in episode 1? Remember how Hwayong (the wicked Crown Princess) tricked her way into Yi Gak’s heart? Well, if Yi Gak remains in modern day times, what happens to Buyong, and her budding romance with Yi Gak? My guess is that Yi Gak will return to the past and fulfill his love with Buyong.
Also, in episode 1, there was a budding romance between Taeyong (future Yoochun) and Bakha (future Han Ji Min). My guess is that Taeyong never died, but was rescued and is lying unconscious in some hospital in the U.S. His death was never confirmed, and hey, this is a kdrama! I think Taeyong will regain consciousness when Yi Gak goes back to the past, and start afresh with Bakha.
It will be sad when Bakha and Yi Gak have to part, but there will also be a new beginning for Bakha/Taeyong and Buyong/Yi Gak. My guess is that RTP will be like 49 Days: Jihyun and Kang couldn’t end up together, and neither could Yi Kyung and Yi Soo. But Yi Kyung and Kang had a chance at starting something new together.
OR….if the woman who drowned was really Princess Buyong, then there would be no need for Yi Gak to go back to the past (permanently, at least). According to Theory:Rebirth, Yi Gak was reborn as Taeyong and Buyong was reborn as Bakha, which explains the butterfly connection. If Theory:Rebirth is true, then Yi Gak has to go back to the past (temporarily) to solve the mystery of the princess’ death, etc, etc. This means the time portal in Bakha’s rooftop apartment will open again, etc, etc. <– actually, the more I think about it, the more Theory:Rebirth makes sense. Props to whoever came up with Theory:Rebirth!!!
Also, about that mysterious incident where Sena's apartment door was propped open…I bet that it was Yi Gak, one of his Aquamen, or someone else from the past. Since there's time traveling involved, maybe later on it will be possible for our posse to jump back and forth in time, manipulating the time-space continuum, sort of like what happens in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban or Back to the Future.
that reminds me of Meet Joe Black where Death takes over a body but later the person returns
I wonder if that’s why I wasn’t mad about 49 days…I loved Meet Joe Black but it wasn’t received particularly well.
I really love that movie too! I didn’t see it in theatres but I always watch it when it’s on tv. I also always watch the count of monte cristo, but I haven’t seen that one on tv in ages. I must have watched it at least 15 times and I can’t remember anything except the orange of fire in a cave and fire light on gold. I read somewhere that people who have trouble with their oxygen supply ( asthmatics for example) have spectacular light shows in their heads and other hallucinations involving lights. Once, when I was very anemic and didn’t know I was walking and I saw this scene with light and glass and people and I had the idea that I could write it exactly like that so it would appear that way on the page like a photograph you know. It was only after I’d rested for awhile I realized it’s impossible to write that.
I don’t get why. I thought it was a great movie.
OH crap I completely forgot about how she got into Sena’s apartment! That opens up a can of questions. Hopefully the show answers them all.
I totally want it to be like Azkaban. I wonder if we can spot some clues? Like what if we see someone familiar in the background. Off to rewatch.
I also agree that it might be like 49 Days. Yi Gak and his men got to go back to the past. If he ends up falling in love with Bak Ha, I might end up crying my eyes out.
Duckie put the shoe in the door and then hopped in the shower, thinking it was his girlfriend after hearing the bell. Although why he wouldn’t just have opened the door and stood there while she walked in that case, I have no idea. So I could be wrong…but he clearly thought it was her when he got out of the shower and said ‘did you forget your key?’ So he must have thought he was her when he set the door ajar.
Time for a lunch break. I got the posts from the pull-up bar out, now it’s removing the cement that held the pole in the ground. Ugh. Too much like work.
For lunch it’s ramen with sardines, actually herring in hot tomato sauce. Throw in chunks of bread to make a soggy glop. Tastes better than it sounds.
Off to preview an auction later .
I am so late this week. But OT is kind of slow.
How is everyone doing?
One more epsiode of Operation Proposal left to watch and then I have to choose which will be my next drama.
I’m thinking Equator man. (I love love-hate between boys) I’m not so much into rom-coms lately.
Have a happy weekend everyone!
HI! have a good weekend too!
Can’t wait for the last episode of OP to be subbed so I can understand what’s being said. Saw it raw and gosh…so sweeet ending. Cried a bucket of tears for it though. (sigh)
HAPPY OT!/ Ceasar Chavez Day.
I’m in love with the shows Rooftop Prince and King 2 Hearts. They are so good and hopefully they will keep it up till the end.
No one has mentioned ‘Love Rain’. Is anyone watching it? I’m not, but I’m curious to see if it’s being received any better.
Hi! I watched the first episode and didn’t bother to even skim through the second one. If I am to choose Yoona or, let’s say, an IKEA catalogue, the catalogue is more exciting. Maybe I am too cynical to get all those poetry-loving and artistic youths’ characters. And the “Love Story” references were lame to me.
BTW Does anyone have a way to tame your inner nasty cynic?
ROTFL!!! I always turn to alcohol. LOTS and lots of alcohol, and pictures of hot Korean men with absworthy chocolate abs to stare at. Sometimes separately; sometimes even together. Usually that calms the voices in my head down within 15 minutes.
I will start in on “Love Rain” after a few more episodes are online and make my decision then. But I’m a total sucker for that type of retro-dorama. The cinematography stills I’ve seen so far are breathtaking!
Why oh why am I a Teetotaller? But k-abs, yes please
I’m watching. At this point with only two eps aired, it’s too early to pass judgement. This is a multi-generational true melo, done by the creator of Four Seasons. The first two eps are truly retro, both in characterizations and appearance. It really is filmed with a ‘Love Story’ ambiance. Each frame is a portrait in itself – the lushness and colors of campus life and scenery are breathtaking. The actors are doing a fine job (and I’m not a JGS fan) – Yoona is competently tackling her role as a shy, reserved student.
The real crunch is going to come when the story swings to contemporary, and a reversal of character personalities takes over the story. This is where we’ll see if the PD still has what it takes to put out a classic, or if time has passed him by.
Hi all!
I”m back from shopping. Bought niece a bunch of shirts. She’s growing so fast that I can’t keep up. All her clothes that doesn’t fit her, I give to my other nieces–twins.
Shukmeister: love your fan-fic. hehe It’s getting to the good part. I check it as almost as much as I check dramabeans. LOL
K2hs is funnie as heck. I saw the preview for the next episodes and it seem to be series, like all the fun ends and politics starts which I hope isn’t true! As long as the mood stays the same, it’ll be awsome. however, if and when it’s going to hit it’s climax, it’s probably not going to though.
RP: this one is awsome. ^_^ I’m reading recaps and waiting until it’s all done and subbed before watching it.
Love Rain: I have not seen it yet but I will when it’s half way through. I hate waiting. Read the recaps and so far, it’s good—but gosh, main lead is sooo… well, passive. LOL I just hope his son isn’t like that. You won’t get the girl if that’s how you go about.
Skipbeat!: yay! finally! I hope they don’t change and say there’s another extended episodes.
Watched chilling romance– omgoddess! that’s one good movie! I was kinda creepped out on some parts but others, I couldn’t help LOL. Excellant cast for sure.
Going on a trip next week to visit famiy down south. No internet there. sad sad! I suppose I’ll have to go without internet for a whole 8 days. OMG! How am going to survive? ahahh hmm…. suppose fishing and hiking and doing other stuff will help.
If you’re down south family is lively I’m sure it’ll be fun!
I always kind of dread visiting extended family since I don’t know them well and I’m a bit shy around people I don’t know, lol.
LOL. Me too! not sure what t say to them–extended family members…. but these are close imediate family so it’s not too bad. ^^ Not much a converser starter.
but I do fine afterward.

Thanks for the support! Now that the canon couple have clinched, it’s time for the annoying and bad stuff to start happen.
I haven’t found love for K2H yet, but I’m planning to try again when I have time.
shuk: yeah, as long as the show doesn’t turn too serious, it should still be fun. If it get’s too serious… I don’t know what i’ll do. LOL
TGIF Peeps.
Ah, so I get news Skip Beat! is on its final run this wkend. The show caught me by surprise extending the story beyond the anime version. The timing is good for me since I’m investing more time in Fondant Garden, I Love You So Much, and Happy Michelin Kitchen.
Other than those Tdramas, I barely have room to squeeze in The King 2 Hearts and Ultimate K-POP Survival Kdramas. I’m behind on everything else, heck, I couldn’t even finish off Dream High 2. I may have to hang the last 2 eps on a meat jerky rack ’cause I want to start the sweet and tart love Rooftop Prince.
Anybody plan on fooling anyone this Sunday, April 1st? Haha~ now we have to register for an account to dl JB’s music picks? O , o; I feel foolish now. Bahhhh~
For anyone interested in learning Korean, “An Entertaining Cup of Morning Coffee” blog is teaching Korean. So far, there are 2 articles posted about it.
http://akikosmorningcoffee.wordpress.com/learning-korean/
thanks for the link! ^^
Hi Everybody, it’s been a while since I last visited the OT.
The last time I was at the verge of leaving Kdramaland for good and indeed I didn’t watch anything for a few weeks, but recently I checked out some current stuff and there I am back
I checked out Rooftop Prince and King2Hearts although I usually stay clear off anything with royal titles in the name (especially princess) and I really like both. Funny stories, well written characters, something to anticipate in next episodes. I wish they weren’t both on Wed-Thur, though.
The positive surprise of the week is Can Love Become Money. I clicked just to have a glimpse of what it is about and now i understand the hype around Vampire Prosecutor (’cause I don’t watch anything with vampires in the title
). The female leads haven’t had many chances to show their characters well so far. No matter what, I love this chaebol! It is a Cha-do-nam (is it how the cold city man is called?) but not a sonofabitch. He’s frank to others but also seems to have a realistic image of himself. I’m an absolute sucker for witty remarks and gosh I do get it there. I’ve only seen one ep and cannot wait for the next ones.
A random fact of the week is that Jung YooMi in Rooftop Prince drivers here the same car as in A Thousand Days Promise. (I feel I am different, aren’t I?
welcome back! ^^
Where can i watch can love become money at? viki has a licensing problem so that’s out. dramafever don’t have it either and neither does dramacrazy. These are usually the two sites that I go to watch movies.
Thanks
. The beginning is a bit wtf, but as soon as it gets to the story…
I caught that one episode at kimchidrama
Probably won’t happen, but I think K Pop the Ultimate Audition is up Girlfriday’s ally… guys with their shirt off by episode 3. And probably more of what Dream High 2 should have been, though I keep feeling the ghost of YAB, though the drama is clearly different.
I also like 12 Guys in a Year too… but then cable offerings are rarely covered here.
I’m also hoping that Yoon Seung Ho will show up on Running Man… so he can compare his “time powers” with Haroro
It’s a wish up there with Yoon Eun Hye and Shin Bong Sun in the same episode of Running Man…
Anyone have strange fantasies of such Running Man episodes after watching dramas?
kpUaudition reminds me of you’re beautiful. Same concept, different storyline.
It’s not bad so far. Waaay better than DH2.
Anyone watching “12 Men in a Year” now that they’re beginning to be subbed?
If you read my comment at 41, you will see that I did…
me! i just finished episode 8 last night. i like it. =D i think it’s sort of refreshing to watch after watching dramas where just kissing is a big deal, haha.
Back to read all the messages from today. but before:
I just finished Operation Proposal, this time with subs. I had to dinner plans, but rather stay home watching dramas.
Well, I love it.
though ****** SPOLIERS ******
I’m not too convinced about the all the story with the video, since supposedly Baekho borrowed the camera in the future, and then recorded in the past?
But lest just go with the flow.
I did love the Meta in episode 16, as soon as the taxi driver mention that the guy he took to school looked just like the kid that goes to visit his grandma in the mountains, I knew they were talking about “The Way Home”. It feels so good to know what they talk about
****END SPOILERS*****
For those who were waiting for 12 Men in a Year, subs are ready up to ep 8. Look around since they are pretty much in all the usual sites. Well, not viki or dramafever. I like it so far, but I have to admit it gives off a little bit of I Need Romance vibes
Now, I better star reading
Hi zgznoona!
Ending of OP was good. ^^ They took it a bit farther than Jdrama one which is nice.
they had more episodes to play around with
yes and at least it’s not way too much of a open ending. It feels like there’s closure. ^^
12 men in a year has subs? Oh cool will look for it, haven’t started watching but planning with/without subs.
I come and go and needed to reply to some people.
Raine Hi back
Kewbie- there will be no ss for K2H from viki. Been pretty peeved off with this SEPROAST person who has been stealing subs from viki. Told them to stop and he/she is ripping the unedited viki subs. Has basically made the other viki softsubbers upset.
Since the ss maker is not watching the dramas and is only doing us a favour and the software was stolen off him. Not really rushing to push for ss and basically, if bad viki subs are around- because this person is ripping subs from 2 other viki dramas- am not in a mood to make anyone happy.
Hello, everyone! I’m so late this week. I had to run a couple of errands during the afternoon.
I watched 3 episodes of Dal Ja’s Spring. It’s the only drama I’m watching at the moment but I’m planning to alternate with Salaryman.
Also, failed miserably to finish the second ASOIAF book before the second season of Game of Thrones starts this Sunday. It’s taken me soooo long, it’s just so hard for me to read more than one chapter at a time, especially if the chapter focuses on a character I dislike. I don’t know if I should just give up and watch the show only, after all the first season was pretty faithful to the book.
can someone please sub or do recaps on can money buy you love pretty pleaseee!!
Hi friday goers !
Here is something commenters are watching too !
http://youtu.be/axdoaFVnwXU
Hi.. This is my first time sharing on this OT’s session..
I just watched the first episode of Junho’s 2PM and Kim Seo Eun in MBC’s Music and Lyrics, and love this couple already.. Their interactions look so cute and natural at the same time.
Tough Junho always be my bias in 2PM -fangirling mode ON- I’d love to see him being in real relationship with KSE, they look so good together (both have cats as their pet)
Junho gentleman’s manner suits KSE’s sweet and easygoing characters even when they’re just walking beside each other casually.
Another lovely gesture from Junho is his participation in global charity for children in Ethiopia. He adopted a child from Ethiopia one year ago and just got a chance visiting the child in Ethiopia last month despite sacrificing his first holiday just to meet and give encourage for the child and his family in Ethiopia.
Watching Junho’s footage in that poor country made me crying and smiling at the same time. I was crying because the people’s bad condition in Ethiopia is worse than my imagination before, and I was smiling and proud of Junho when he kept giving his angelic smile while embracing and hugging the children there. Enough to said that he’s crying inside his heart noticing those children’s sufferings.
I have two nieces that just adopted two kids each from Ethiopia. They didn’t really “need” any more kids….they have six each already. But they had a friend who worked in Ethiopia in an orphanage of children whose parents/family had died of AIDS. They are all beautiful children, and all four are excited to be in the US with the opportunities they have now. The 11 year old is already planning to become a doctor and go back to Ethiopia. Their biological children are learning about sharing their means and love wth children who were less fortunate.
Many people have said very disparaging things about them bringing the children to the US, about them losing their culture or whatever. My nieces made sure to make videos of their native villages/towns, interviewed people that knew the children, they have tutors to keep them skilled in their native languages, with every expectation that they might want to go back to their native country to help in some capacity. The films they brought back of living conditions there are just heartbreaking. One niece ended up living there for almost three months, waiting for paperwork, and she had several very scary incidents during hat time.
I’m proud of both ladies, and proud of the lovely children they are raising….both biological and adopted.
I told myself I wasn’t going to mention BIGBANG—-but I just had too! 0_0 (love their new mini album!)
Anyway, that wasn’t what I wanted to say. LOL
So I”m at work and I see these two kids-both 9 year olds-one boy and one girl. the little boy is watching Eminum on youtube and the girl is watching… guess who?
Bigbang! LOL
Dang, young fans! ^^
Cv – Did your copy of the mini album finally come in? I’ve been listening to mine, and I’m sure everyone around me thinks it’s odd for me to be monotoning “Boom shakala, boom shakala”. LOL
laughing at ^ but I do it too, accompanied by head thrusts.
Of course, head thrusts and peyote…oh wait, that was the previous conversation. lol
… and I throw in a few T.O.P. hand-waves as well. It’s such a catchy tune!!!
I do love me some TOP but I’m fond of all the boys, really – they seem to have such distinct personalities and talents. I don’t know if I just see them more, or if they’re more noticeable than in other groups
JOanne: I have to say, all the members of BigBang–I can destinguish them and know who they are right away. Even how they sound when they sing. They are unique that way. ^_^
Some of the other idol groups, they all look so alike that they blend together that I can’t tell who’s who.
Shuk: yes!! it did! LOL
Finally got the album and my little niece who’s 6 saw the cover–took TOP’s booklet and card but gave me the CD and outer metal cover. I took it back but she was bawling so I had to give it to her. ^^
I’m here for Movie Noona Night and Chilling Romance!
The link from earlier on Youtube has already been removed but I did find it in 6 parts still on Youtube with Eng subs. Link to first part is here:
http://youtu.be/y_V-lJmgWY0
I’m here too.
I guess I’m lucky I downloaded the movie from the other day
yeah it’s irritating to have to click on the next part, takes you right out of the movie. Oh well! How are you Z?
I can’t complain
Tho I’ve been sleepy all day, since I marathon Kimi wa Petto last night. Went to bed at 6
how was your saturday JoAnne?
COLD and RAINY, which sucked, but I didn’t have to go anywhere or do anything, so I actually got under the covers and napped this afternoon, just for a little while. It was so nice…
How about you?
Pretty much the same, actually I was planning on going to the movies but I turn down my friends, since I was tired and it was raining.
It might be just the two of us tonight. Ms. cmrprindle says “hi”. She is too tired to join us
Hi back to Prindley, she should get some rest.
Shuk is here with us…I know Ricky was tempted but I bet he’s a good boy and studies instead. Do you know if Raine was going to join?
Raine said she’ll be watching White Christmas with her dad
@ JoAnne,
That’s one of the best ways to spend a cold and rainy day (taking a nap and being cozy and warm
). It rained a lot here today as well, but I was busy doing things at home. I’m glad you enjoyed your nap.
what were you going to see at the movies, Z? I don’t go ‘out’ to the movies often, although I watch a lot of them at home. But recently I’ve seen The Hunger Games, and Silent House. LOVE a good scary movie, and that one really filled the bill, both my daughter and I loved it.
so it looks like you, me, Shuk, and IV made it – is it the first for you two? I think Shuk was there for the birth of Movie Noonas – I think that night was me, Ricky, Shel, Shuk, and maybe Jomo?
@JoAnne Hunger Games, I usually rather to watch movies at home though.
oh, and AnotherAddict joins us too!
Ah, White Christmas. Such a good drama.
@ JoAnne
I did no such good-boy-thing. I was actually drooling over my pillow when I was supposed to come here and watch the movie with all of you. I couldn’t wake up. Haha.
I am watching it now though. I like what I’m seeing so far. Funny and eerie at the same time. One of my fav, I think.
JoAnne, Zgznoona
Selamat pagi (that’s good evening in Malay, if you couldn’t figure that in my fan fic). lol
So are we up to go ahead and watch this movie?
I couldn’t wait! I’m 5 minutes in already and LOVING it, which seems premature but wait until you see Lee Min Ki
lest start then
Hi JoAnne,
I’m sorry to disappoint you but I am not going to be around for the movie. I couldn’t respond to the responses I had to my comments after 2pm yesterday, and I came back home really late from the play/musical at my church last night and today it was just one thing after another and so I was not able to get back on the OT as early as I wanted to. I am going to try and respond to some comments, with the hope of making some headway (there are not that many, but they usually end up taking me more time than I was anticipating).
From the few comments I read, it seems that you guys are enjoying the movie. I don’t know that I would know how to watch a movie and comment at the same time, I feel that I would be very slow in the process. I would constantly be behind.
Have fun enjoying your movie!
fine with me, or do you want to wait a little bit? just in case more people want to join
I’m here! I rushed home, excited about losing my movie noona night virginity, but then I couldn’t find the action, so I thought it wasn’t happening. Thanks for the new link, Joanne. I’ve only watched the first 3 min. so far… it sure is nice to see LMK again after he was killed off in SU:FBB. I’m multi-tasking, so I’ll probably get even more behind, but I’ll check in again later.
Welcome to the movie night anotheraddict
I like LMK the best with some guyliner
I was thinking that…it’s AMAZING how different it makes his face. Without it, his eyes look enormous, like he’s an alien. With it, his eyes still look big, but they’re more…I dunno. They are still big, still striking, but less alien and yet it changes his whole face.
aww, teddy bear and cake alone
…she sleeps in a teepee?
All of you girls, have fun! I saw it and liked it very much. It’s almost sunday 4am for me and i need to go to bed…
oi! Up so LATE!
Good night
I feel so bad for So Ye-jin’s character. It has to suck to live like that
Yeah, that was pretty sad
