Casting update for Time Slip Dr. Jin

Looks like Time Slip Dr. Jin is going full steam ahead with casting, now that it suddenly finds itself a month out from premiere. That’s the thing about dramas. You gotta have a cast to get on the air. It’s crazy like that. Lee Beom-soo has signed on pretty much right on the heels of Salaryman, for what will be a ten-year reunion with co-star Song Seung-heon, since their 2002 movie Run First (poster below). And then finally, we have some women rumored to join the cast: Kim So-yeon (Coffee) and Park Min-young (Man of Honor) are considering the show.

Dr. Jin is set in the late Joseon era (1860) and features a time-traveling genius brain surgeon (Song Seung-heon) who goes back 150 years and struggles to adapt his medical practice. Well I’d say. What’s a brain surgeon gonna do without lasers and all his fancy brain probing doohickeys?

Kim Jaejoong plays Kim Kyung-tak, descendant of a long line of warriors, and the most skilled martial artist and best military officer of the time. Lee Beom-soo has joined the cast as Lee Ha-eung, a “soldier of fortune,” aka a mercenary, or assassin for hire. Badass. He’s also a bit of an oddball character though, which if you’ve seen Lee Beom-soo in anything, you’ll know is perfect for him.

Park Min-young is up for a double role — Dr. Jin’s little sister in the present day, and then in the Joseon era, she plays Hong Young-rae, the daughter of a nobleman and… she’s not his sister anymore? Um, is anyone else worried about this storyline? I see where this is going…

Kim So-yeon is considering the role of Chun Hong, the best gisaeng in the land, who also possesses mystical powers. She has the power to look into the future, which sounds like it’ll come in handy for our time-jumping doctor. Both ladies are still unconfirmed, though the clock’s a-tickin’ on this beast.

Time Slip Dr. Jin follows Feast of the Gods and premieres May 26 on MBC.

Wait, Lee Ha-eung is a bad ass assasin?

The name belongs to the father of the future king Ko-jong. He was a remote relative of the royals, but played fool to survive while secretly paving the way for his son to be the next king (because the previous king died without heir). 'Course, once his boy became the king, it was the father who actually ruled the country, well, until the nominal king rebelled against his father :)

I thought they picked this "king father" instead of Sakamoto Ryoma b/c we didn't really have such personality as Ryoma in Korean history.

Oh, thank you for this bit of info! I was worried they weren't to use any real, historical characters, like they did in JIN. But knowing that Lee Beom-soo's character isn't fully an invention, I'm less worried about that~

And yes, I suppose it would have been difficult to find a Korean Sakamoto Ryôma. This "King father" kind of makes sense, he can have Sakamoto's personality while being a bit similar 'politically/historically' :)

Also, they'll be talking about the same period :D

Ok....Lee Beom Soo. I'm definitely in. I'll have to remind myself to not compare it with the Japanese version that I loved so much.

KSY and LBS, I'm so watching this drama for these 2!! never been a fan of SSH, he still acts the same since I first saw him.

I have watched PMY in SKKS, I feel acting in the other 3 young actors instead, did not catch up with her other dramas.

I'm anticipating the veterans in this drama.....

But with SSH in the lead, I reckon there will be a lot of interest from Japan and the rest of Asia.

NO - WHAAAAT!? KIM SO YEON IN THIS DRAMA?

Now I HAVE to watch it, even though I was going to stay far away with a ten-foot pole because it's Song Seung Hoon.

I hope she rejects it. I don't want my girl as a gisaeng. She's gonna be pushed to the side by Park Min Young.

Am I the only one obsessed enough with Lee Min Ho to have my first reaction be, oh my god Min Ho and Min Young in rival dramas? :O *facepalm*

Park min young confirmed for the lead so sadly I am out on this one. I really hope Kim so Yeon declines because the writers are the writers for spy myung wol and road number 1, this reeks of train wreck.

Gawd, the girl is adorable and sweet but she is such a mediocre actress and frankly I can ony handle one mediocre lead not two.

Time-travelling Doctor, huh?

I know this isn't the Korean Doctor Who, but every time I see headlines about it, I wish it was..

PMY is simply wonderful in all the dramas she appeared in and I LOVE HER! She was amazing in SKKS and I honestly don't think any other actress can be as effective as her and can pull off the role as Kim Yoon Hee in the drama. Her chemistry with Micky Yoochun in SKKS was simply magical. This gal has won acting awards from her dramas and I am sure she'll continue to be recognized for her acting skills in the years to come. Who cares if she underwent plastic surgery. In this day and age this is pretty common among celebrities (or non-celebrities for that matter). If she wants to 'enhance' her beauty, that's her prerogative and people shouldn't judge her. Like any other actress, their investment is their looks (aside from their talent) so it's simply maintaining and protecting the investment. She is not only beautiful outside, but inside as well and that's what makes me a total fan. I'm not Korean but I got hooked to Kdramas because of her. PMY, fighting!

Actually, read at Kim So Yeon's thread that Kim So Yeon has declined the role in Dr. Jin. Park Min Young, on the other hand, confirmed to be the female lead playing 2 roles.

Partly this is because Kim So Yeon didn't want to play second lead to Park Min Young.

KSY is no way second lead to PMY, the roles should've been switched. Although I'm disappointed, I'm happy she's not playing second lead.

I agree. The Nokaze role, although 2nd lead, was still great. Still remembering those moments in JIN.
But yeah, KSY probably didn't want to play second lead to PMY, and I would be like that too, if I were KSY.

I hope KSY will be cast in something else where she is TOTALLY the lead. Her last project, doctor champ was disappointing, although her character was okay, I wasn't hooked on it as I was with PP and Iris.

PMY please be don't listen to your detractors. They just envy you because you have been very consistent.Your fans who believes in you are always here to support you all the way, whatever your endeavors are..Fighting...Your are one of the korean actress that I find very talented. You are given these opportunities because you are not pure from the outside but in the inside too and I find you very smart as well...Love yah, will be watching your up coming projects..

I am a Park Min Young fan and to give my unbias point regarding her acting, then I dont think she's a "TERRIBLE ACTRESS" as some would claim though her range is not that wide that she'd be eaten alive w/ the likes of Kim So Yeon. However she's likeable enough for public to watch her. Man of Honor FYI didnt flop in Korea as it had a decent 18-20% for the ratings .

The problem I see w/ Dr. Jin is not really the casting but how the writers would get a grip of a solid storyline. Their writers are the ones from Spy Myungwol and even if i generally liked the drama REAL LIFE events w/ their lead actress placed a toil on the whole staff that i think spiraled the show to dooms land.

But whatever, im giving them a second chance and I hope theyd do well on this. Fighting!
