Happy Friday Devourers of KDramas! Sorry for another hit-and-run, as I am already at the office dealing with one nightmare after another. I had to cover for another set of co-workers who were away this week due to the second half of Spring Break school closures. Hopefully all will be quieted by noon-ish and I can kick back and relax again.
To that end, there was no real drama watching on my part this week. I’m trying to stay away from the recaps (arch!!), as K2H, RP and DH2 remain in a holding pattern. Equator Man started up on KBS World, so there’s yet another show that will be housed on my DVR until I can devote the brainpower to watch. And over on one of our local Korean stations, Arirang is running “Korea Secret Agency” (repackaged in 30-minute chunks as “Super Rookie Ranger”). First aired on SBS in 2006 with Eric (from Shinhwa), Han Ji Min (currently in RP), Yoon Ji Min (Ga Ok from WBDS), and Shin Sung Woo (from “Man in Crisis”). Oh my, so off-the-charts goofy that it’s kinda hard to watch… especially with Eric’s super-short hair like he just got out of the military or something. I’ll let that pile up as well and marathon it when time allows… but I feel like I’m missing soooo much by laying low. Big Heavy Sigh.
But I must commend the DB Powers-That-Be here for handling such a surmountable task keeping us up-to-date with all the extra episode recaps and news bits thrown at them this week. Oh well, sleep is overrated anyway. Great job, ladies — a heartfelt SALUTE is in order for you all!!
My Precious is back from his little self-imposed hiatus, sitting down for a fluffy little interview over at YTN’s “News & Issues” program on 17 April. No hard-hitting questions were asked, and especially nothing about the February car accident — phew! JCW looked nice and rested from the Singapore filming at least, and will be off to Daejeon on 1 May for the World Chefs Competition opening ceremonies. My friends that live there have graciously offered to stalk… erm, I mean hang around the Conference Centre there to catch a glimpse or two. Hee!
I guess the best thing that happened this week is… CHOSHINSUNG IS BACK, BABY!!! About freakin’ time — they’re one of the few KPop bands that I actively took an interest in when they debuted. Love the new track and it’s getting some repeat play on my iPod, but dammit, Ji Hyuk… what’s up with the blonde locks now? You look like a shorter version of Edgar Winter with that hairdo!! First Daesung goes platinum, now you? That’s a fashion trend that I just do not support at all. Yeesh.
Anyway, gotta roll, peeps… need to be on the phone with London in 20 minutes. I’ll see you all later today. Yup, just can’t stop humming it… ♬ Stupid stupid love… ♬
Happy Friday!
Supernova!!! That group is so interesting to me because, despite the little K-ent success, they’ve been holding strong through promotions, japan concerts, and acting. It’s a really interesting dynamic with those guys.
Eh… that blonde cyclical trend isnt NEARLY as annoying as the “alien” trend. I feel like 3 groups have attempted that promo method lol.
I know what you mean about being behind IRL and dramaland. It’s tough especially because there’s so many good ones. It’s like a pleasant curse lol
Cherkell, you always have such great hit and runs! Have a LOVELY day!
We must find a way to keep her with us one day… When i think about cherkell i always imagine her in a plane above the clouds, heading for Tokyo or elsewhere…
LOL you must be sharing my brain — most of my Friday was spent in meetings about my next trip to Japan, tentatively set for 28 or 29 June. Sigh… I should take off a random Friday and just hang with you guys all day. Would be more fun!
Cherk!! Waving frantically as I breeze by!!
Happy Friday everyone!
Good morning/afternoon/night or day, Dramabeaners all around the world!
Mys, Happy Friday!
Happy OT Friday to you too! ^^
Happy Friday, M!
Myst!!!
I’m also flying in – doing the big furniture move for the next couple of hours.
BTW, your chaos button was pushed in my fan-fic.
Shukie!! Good luck with the move, chingu. Lift with your legs!
And hoo boy, your fic is getting better and better!! ::off to read new chapters::
Thanks Shuk! Going to read this way!
From my experience, aspirin is good to avoid cramps and muscle pain. Gambate kudasai!
Gambate Kudasai! is that Japanese or Korean? What does it mean?
It’s the japanese version of “bon courage”. A kind of “brace yourself”.
It’s “Ganbate”.
@ M and Shtoop, thanks for the explanation. I learned something new.
HEY! I’m catching up on your story on Monday! How are you Shuk?!!!!
Good luck with your move…I have one of those coming up soon.
Raine!! Neighborhood kid took my end of the furniture for a $10 Subway gift card I happen to have on my person, so the landlord and the kid sweated while I directed. So this is how Yi Gak feels!! lol
Move is done for the day. Just sheets, clothes, wall decs, etc to go, but all the major furniture is in place.
Bravo!!!! (imagine me clapping like Yeon Sool. I might have mispeled his name. He is in RP, the warrior).
Thank you! It’s nice to be back in my comfy ugly chair.
Yay! Lee Gak! You a Joseon Princess?
Oh, Yong-sul. Yong-sool. different spellings.
I wouldn’t want to be a princess. I get paper cuts relatively easily, so putting some sharpened pointy thing in my hair is a bad idea. And that lttle medallion/hat thing, I’d rather wear a baseball cap. lol
However, if it would get Yong-Sul/Sool to worship me, it just might be worth dressing up like that, even though I hate pink.
I’d have to wear a goth hanbok, a little black/red action. Hee hee.
Hey Mystisith!
I am publicly committing to you that I will do YT video for you en francais about a particularly embarrassing moment in my francais langue seconde adventure in Quebec.
I admire you and all the other peeps who post in English – your langue seconde, and for some -3rd, 4th language.
I am more than willing to demean myself in honor of your brain. I will keep you posted.
Oh! i’m waiting for the news jomo. You went to Quebec! I’m so jealous… The closer i’ve been to it was for that summer when i was 19. I spent a month in a family in Minneapolis St Paul (Min). It was to practice english intensively mind you, but i’m not sure it was successful: I was too immature then.
My brain thanks you for the compliment! I wish i knew how to use it better when i was at school, but i suppose some things have to be learned the hard way from personal experience. And darn it, i would have chosen Chinese or Korean as a 3rd language (instead of spanish, or worst: latin- As we say in dramaland: Give me my hours back !). Nobody predicted it would become useful 20 years later…
I wanna head to Quebec to practice my French. I seriously cannot form sentences anymore. But you talk to me and I’m just fine and dandy. I guess that’s what happens when you don’t practice for 7 years…
I wonder what kind of French they teach in Québec, cause Québécois is different from mother land language, and sometime it’s more authentic (vocabulary wise): I love how they immediately invent French terms to replace a new trendy english word, in order to keep the “purity” of the language. They are more protective than us, it’s quite funny. That said, the accent will stay forever a source of jokes and humor for me, on a nice way: Don’t hate me people if you’re concerned.
I can’t understand the accent very well at all. I watched a Quebecois film and needed subtitles. I couldn’t deal. Haha.
Canada French is to France French
as
US/Canada English is to England English.
Same language, grammar, literature, etc.
Different vocabulary for SOME things and different pronunciation.
Quebecois french broke off from France French and evolved separately. As M said, some of the words seem archaic because they are still in use in North America, but were replaced over time in France.
But for me, the differences are easy to spot and account for so you can understand the vowel differences, you can apply it across everything.
I had to learn to adjust certain things when I spoke French in France to be understood, and adjust back when I was in Quebec.
Ya Jomo, it’s totally cool. I’m sure if I went I would be able to adjust but I never hear it. My whole exposure is to Parisian and Nice accents and grammar/vocab. I learned some Quebecois vocab as part of school tho. I’m dying to visit!
@ Mysti,
You spent a month in Mpls-St Paul (MN)!!!!! I lived in MN for 12 years before relocating to Northern CA. I studied in St Paul (University after the Universite de Poitiers) and then worked there for a while. When my sister came to CA, she wanted me to be closer to her and move, so here I am.
Wow!!!! The world is such a small place. You are my (2nd) sister’s age, so when you were in MN, I was either in Cameroon for 7 months or in MN having started college all over again. We have been to some of the same places: Spain, MN, France. So interesting!
@ Mysti,
I hear you on the language thing. I would keep the languages I speak: French, Spanish, English, Bulu (my native language). I don’t regret the time, money and effort spent learning them. I am adding Korean as a 5th language and I know that one will be a lifelong experience for me, because it is so different and I want to learn slowly, but well. Meaning make sure I understand what I am learning. I think all the languages I speak and write in are lifelong learning experiences. One never stops learning with languages and they are constantly evolving as well.
Awww, Myst, never regret the latin! For me anyway, even if I don’t remember the language so much, it definitely helped me learning OTHER languages and understanding the building blocks of words and how they connect between that family of languages. Plus, because sometimes I’m really just a 9-year-old boy…I still draw endless amusement from the knowledge that ‘anus’ meant ‘old woman’
JoAnne, if i had to choose an old language, i would pick Sanskrit. It’s true than latin helps you understanding your own language (it helped me for medical terms and botanic), but i hate complex grammar. I always find
-End of sentence- a way to avoid it. Irregular verbs in English are my enemies for example… If i can trade them for an harmless synonym, i don’t hesitate.
HAHAHAH Anus means old woman? Okay, I love that. UNNNIIIIII!!!!!!!!!!!! *hugs*
Good Morning/Evening fellow Beanies! Have a great weekend!
What weekend plans do you have? I hope to start my veggie garden and catch up with High Kick 3.
Oh, and Shinhwa is back! Yay!
Have I ever mentioned what a great name you have there, noona? Hehe
It will be studying, catching up on some drama episodes and much-needed sleep. Rinse and repeat!
A wonderful weekend to you!
SHINHWA!!!!! Those guys seriously crack me up. They still “have” it even all this time. Did you watch any of their recent comeback promos?
They were so friggin’ cute during the M!Countdown win. Love Shinhwa.
Ooh I will be spending this weekend having my scientist cap on at a 5-day experimental biology conference that runs from as early as 7am till evening (I have a 830am session Saturday and a 7am session on Sunday) so no sleeping in for me this weekend or the next 5 days and no dramas either lol.
I am so happy that shinhwa is back. I was introduced to Kpop about 4-5 years before I was introduced to kdramas and shinhwa was one of the groups I became a fan of 13 years ago in 1999 and I am still a fan of them. It’s great to have actual men in Kpop who are older than me and talented to boot. I have been in such a fangirl mode since they came back plus Shinhwa Broadcast is hilarious. I swear for the past couple weeks my life has consisted of two things: science and shinhwa sprinkled with a bit of rooftop prince and game of thrones.
I saw that and I thought of you!
Happy Friday girls and THANK YOU Much for all the wonderful recaps. JB get some sleep. <3
LOL Yeah. Such hardworking writers we have here.
very much in agreement! The wizards behind the DB curtain are very powerful, indeed, and we love them and appreciate them for their hard work which benefits us so hugely.
Ditto! Happy Friday and get some sleep!
Good morning/good day (for those in different parts of the world) to the dramabeanies that make this community. I hope that this Friday and your weekend will go well and that you will enjoy good weather and some fun!
Iv,
Good day to you!
Back at you
! Good to hear from you.
Hello, Ivoire! Hope your day is going well.
Thank you! Gearing up for a busy weekend on my end.
Bonjour Ivoire!
The weather is crazy here (giboulées de mars en avril…), but birds are singing everywhere, so i’m happy! Thanks to all the drama watching this week, i think this weekend i’ll stay in bed to SLEEP. Which is something i hate normally…
Mysti,
so sorry about the bad weather in your area currently, but happy the birds are singing. Sleeping or being in bed is something I love to do (usually watching Kdramas or reading recaps), when I can so I think it is a good thing. Don’t hate it too much.
Also don’t know if you saw this, but I did leave this for you on the last OT:
63.2.1.1 Ivoire April 19th, 2012 at 6:55 am (last page, at the bottom).
I saw it! Thanks. Promise i won’t ask again, it’s written in my Memoland now…
North Cal seems to be a sunny land, from what i saw on some google pics. I love than in the OT we can discuss all and everything, including geography and food recipes. Your post about Cameroun is very interesting. You won’t be surprised if i tell you i never studied it in school isn’t it? LOL, it seems today is the day i rebel against our educational system. Should i say it? Yes, it’s a big fail. We could do so much more and so much better… It’s frustrating to think than there is kids with potential and not the good tools or programs to transmit worthy knowledge. I should add that i admire teachers who can give attractive lessons, particularly when it comes to the most boring subjects. I believe in “a teacher can make the difference”, and movies (or books) with model teachers always work for me.
Hey M,
You know, I don’t mind if you ask me often where I live. I just thought it was funny that you didn’t remember but I also know (because you mentioned it here on OT) that you are the queen of post it notes because you don’t think you have a good memory.
Yeah, isn’t it interesting what one can learn on OT? We are our own UN here. Northern Cal is sunny and definitely less cold than MN, phew! I love the weather here more, but life is also more expensive here, so I guess one can’t always have it all.
I am glad you liked my post about Cameroun (or Cameroon) and so I am glad I took the time to write it and post and figure out where the conversation was (the one that started it). I am not surprised that you didn’t learn about my country, not many colonizing countries learn about the places they colonized (unless they go to college and are interested in things like diplomacy, politics, foreign aid, economics, etc…). There has to be a reason/motivation for people to learn about such places.
It is different for us, it is part of our curriculum in Junior High and in High School. We learn the geography, history, politics, economy of all the “super powers [G-20 countries]) and we learn about European countries and America (not just the US and Canada, but the continent), Asia (all of it) and some of the places like Australia etc… We also learn about some of the authors of those countries across different centuries. We learn about the countries they colonized and we study some of the leaders of those countries such as Toussaint Louverture (of Haiti), and about some of the writers such as Aime Cesaire of Martinique (who was a writer, politician and a poet and one of the fathers of the [movement of the negritude] aka [le movement de la negritude] with Leopold Sedar Senghor of Senegal and Leon Damas of French Guiana).
I would say that like the Koreans, we seriously study a lot over 7 years because our curriculum is pact. On top of that we study Maths, Physics, Chemistry, languages, natural Sciences etc… like in the other countries. I would have to say that our literature and languages curriculum is very broad and heavy. I remember studying about slavery and the US and Latin America in “4eme” in Junior High. When I asked Americans if they studied about Africa when they were 13, they said “no.”
Same for Literature and philosophy, I had to study Kant, Nietzsche, Descartes and the Greek philosophers but also the African ones. When I told my college advisor in St Paul about African philosophers (focusing on African philosophy), she said she didn’t know such a thing existed. Interestingly, my university offered a class on African philosophy which I took. It was offered by a Kenyan professor. He loved having me in the class. You know how I write right? Well, my papers were as well structured (if not better) and I participated and contributed a lot because I could talk about Francophone and Anglophone philosophers and those two are different.
I am grateful that I was educated in Cameroon for grade school, Junior High and High School and I am grateful I had the opportunity to leave when I did (and studied in England, Spain, France and in the US). I am not bragging, but I love how broad our curriculum is. It challenges you and opens you up to the world. It teaches you to be disciplined. To me, you also learn to love education. I know I do and I value it which explains why I very often ask questions. If I don’t know, I ask, even when I am learning how to cook (I did that with my Vietnamese neighbor, she is a very good cook and has taught a few great recipes, yum…).
This is going to be a long post, I can tell… Coming back to your post, I also believe that teachers can make a difference. I know some of them have for me.
Hey, Ivoire! It’s supposed to be beautiful weather in our corner of the world this weekend, I hope you have time to enjoy it!
Hi Shel,
.
, *sigh* and I am not really looking forward to this one, but such is life. I will try and enjoy the nice weather.
You are the one who is in Monterey right? (or close to it). Thank you for including me in the list of people who are the highlights of OT
I have a busy weekend, getting ready to move again
Yep…its supposed to get all the way up to 75 here tomorrow. Perfect beach weather. Which it’s not in the summer, because it’ll be foggy and cold.
It’s beautiful out today, too. My daughter and I are doing her algebra in view of the bay and it’s very distracting.
LOL, sorry you guys are distracted, but better that than the heavy rain we had all of last week, although we do need the water.
Bonjour Ivoire! This would be a perfect day to go grab a cup of coffee… but I’m chained to my desk (and not in a way I’d prefer). Hope you have a great day!!
Bonjour Cherkell,
I have this for your from last OT :
3.6.4 Ivoire April 18th, 2012 at 4:32 pm
Sorry it was late, but I wanted to respond, so I went back and I did. If you have the time and are curious, feel free to read. Chained to your desk huh, yeah… gotta make a living right? And you are right, the weather is really nice. I hope you will enjoy it this weekend.
Ok, I chuckled at that. You naughty woman.
LOL I resemble that remark.
Merci beaucoup for the response, ma chérie! That is the Paris Baguette you walked by in Palo Alto. And I’m sorry to hear that you have to move so soon after your last attempt. Why don’t we attempt to meet for a cuppa when you get settled again? Hopefully my schedule will also settle down enough to have more of a life…
LOL Cherkell,
You are speaking like JH when he was on his date with the North Korean lady who is a bag designer. He spoke English and French and Korean intertwined and you are doing the same. I love that
. Yes, let’s see what happens once I move, I couldn’t tell you, to be honest. And it sounds like you are quite busy yourself… So we’ll see. I hope your weekend is going well!
This is for JoAnne, if you happen to read this:
I always wanted to respond to your comment to me because you were on to something and I think you might not have realized it. I have this thing about always answering to comments that were made to me, a way of “finishing” the conversation “properly” on a particular topic.
This stayed with me, so I wanted to comment on this as well. I went and looked at the page again and realized that it would be hard to find my answer there because there are some many comments by now. If you have time and patience, you can go and reread that portion. It started with me venting about the dumb (and often insensitive questions) I get about Cameroon. Ricky commented, saying he could relate and shared some of his experiences and then you chimed in with this (read below).
I have to say that your answer calmed me down (I was a little overworked there for a few minutes) but also that as I said, you were on to something. My unfinished responses tend to stay with me and I want to share my response because maybe I think :”if I were to die tomorrow, I would want her/him to know what I would have said, given the opportunity.” Morbid a little, I know… (and maybe a little obsessive. I am a 1st born, can you tell?
)
So, you were right. Cameroon (the name) comes from the Portuguese “Rio Dos Camaroes” which means “River full of shrimps or prawns” as I have seen it being interpreted at times, because of the river Wouri “discovered” in 1472 that was full of shrimps. The name extended to the territory, and became Kamerun in German (under German occupation) and Cameroon in English (under British occupation for the western side) and Cameroun in French (for the Eastern side of the country). You can read that here:
http://www.nationsonline.org/oneworld/cameroon.htm
So maybe people asking me if that is the name of a dish is not too far fetched, but still, I keep thinking “it’s a whole country, why would it be a dish?” and then “no really, look it up. you will see what I mean.”
I appreciated that you shared your foreign experience as well. It is always interesting and enlightening to me to read about other people’s experiences, especially when traveling abroad.
I know this has nothing to do with Kdramas, but we had this conversation here (on OT) and I just wanted to share this with you.
Your comments are below. I hope your weekend is starting well
4.1.2.3.9 JoAnne March 16th, 2012 at 4:38 pm (part of OT# 231)
Ivoire, re: Camaroon being the name of a dish – people are silly, but I wonder if the person asking you was thinking of camarones – which is Spanish for shrimp? Or yummy, delicious, coconutty macaroons, or even the special fancy macarons that the French make (no coconut in them, sadly…)
My only experience with being a foreigner was 3 years in Germany, which cannot compare to your experiences. Well ok, maybe my three years in Texas, married into an hispanic family – that might count, too…and was actually the much more confusing of the two, by far!
But in general what I think is that most people aren’t trying to be hurtful, they’re searching for ways to connect with someone different, and maybe they just should be thinking a tiny bit more before they ask that conversational question.
Thank you for that response, Ivoire. And I’m glad I was able to soothe you a little bit at the time! (Plus it’s neat to know that my hunch about shrimp being connected had some plausibility.) And I’ve bookmarked that site you linked, because I think it will come in handy!
PS – weekend should be good…was a very brain-draining week ending with a particularly long Friday, but tomorrow my clan of friends celebrates a birthday with margaritas, a cook out, and a bonfire, so…laissez le bons temps roulez!
Hello JoAnne,
You are welcome! It makes me glad that I took the time to respond to your comment and that I went back and that I did some research. I am also glad that that website will be helpful to you in the future.
I know you will have fun at the birthday celebration, enjoy yourself! As you said, “Laissez les bons temps roulez!” Very well said
Passe une bonne fin de semaine! (Have a good weekend!)
Ivoire! Bonne journee! How are you love? How’s the job situation?
Bonne journee a toi aussi! Still tutoring French part-time and still looking for full time nannying or caregiving but would prefer to work with children (and babies). Getting ready to move next week
, but I have to do it.
I wish we were in the same location so you can tutor me in French! I’ve been so busy with Asian languages that I’ve seriously neglected my poor French…and I’m going to visit in June/July!
Yay, sounds like fun! Where will you be in France? For how long? Which Asian languages are you learning? I could tutor you in French and you could tutor me in Korean. That would be a win-win situation.
Probably just going to Paris via the chunnel. I won’t have long to visit because I’ll be helping my English friends prepare for their wedding. I’m learning Japanese actively and Korean by absoprtion? LOL
This is for Shukmeister:
1.2.1.1.7 Ivoire April 20th, 2012 at 7:08 am ( #233 OT)
1.2.1.1.8 Ivoire April 20th, 2012 at 7:23 am (OT # 233)
I hope your move went well and that you will be enjoying your new place. I had been meaning to answer but had to take care of life. You can read if you are curious and interested.
Have a great weekend!
Iv!
I’ve read them, and thanks for the follow up!
You are welcome!
This is for Cruelsummer if you read this post today: in response to your comment on last OT, April 13:
3.8.1.1 Ivoire April 18th, 2012 at 5:00 pm
And to Rashell, last OT (April 13)as well in response to your comment:
8–3.8.3.1 Ivoire April 18th, 2012 at 5:23 pm, OT 235
I just wanted to follow up because I had said I would be back.
You’re so sweet
*off to read*
You are very welcome! Hope your weekend is going well!
The King 2 Hearts is killing me, leaving me emotionally-drained, keeping me at the edge of my seat and just wedges itself it between my mind. This is why I watch K-dramas.
Happy Weekend, people!
May you never encounter people like Se-na and Cruella de Eun.
Happy weekend Ricky!
I’m glad and hope that there’s no such person like sena in real life! Gosh…. That would be a cruel fate for anyone.
It’s best to stay away from toxic people like her.
thumbs up! yea, stay far far away. Sad thing is that just like in dramas, in reality, sometime you don’t know they are toxic until it’s too late. Suks.
I hate it when that happens.
Note to self
. Best advice for today. Happy Friday to you
.
Happy Friday, Kiara!
Ricky!
I think i have to stop watching K2H for a while, last eps were truly painful, and from what i heard next ones are not going to be fluffy either… It’s not the show, it’s me. A bit too much angst for the moment.
I watch Rooftop Prince afterwards to lift up my spirits!
I think I’m too enamored by Ha Ji-won and the Royal Family to stop. An extremely effective cast.
And Eun Shi-Kyung. Can’t forget to mention his name since he’s awesome and all.
Eun Shi Kyung….in ep 10, the only part I actually had tears was when he was giving the King his pep talk. He’s awesome!
Is it weird if I say that a little (teeny weeny) part of me has a crush on him.
HAHAHA
It’s heartbreaking to see him argue with his father prior to that scene. Actually, I can recall vividly most of his scenes, especially with the Princess.
Oh no, now I’m worried about Jae-shin.
I’m worried about Jae Shin, too. I was yelling at the screen, “DON”T LEAVE HER ALONE!…WHOEVER IS FOLLOWING IS GONNA SHOW UP!” (to weird looks from my daughter, as she is doing algebra next to me and I’m wearing headphones, lol) But, he didn’t listen and then pierced/tattooed lady shows up.
And, no it isn’t weird. I have a girl-crush on Ha Ji Won, lol.
Eun Shi Kyung! Eun Shi Kyung! Eun Shi Kyung!
It’s not weird, Ricky…he is most deserving of the crushing of EVERYONE.
And my goodness, do I love that show.
I already had a bit of a girl crush on Ha Ji Won, and I liked Seung Gi and Jo Jung Suk…but man, if I don’t absolutely adore them all now. SO GOOD
I want to live with them! I’d be the servant boy or whatever.
Lee Yoon-ji plays Jae-shin so well. I want a happy ending for her, preferably with Shi-kyung and the parrot.
JJS is so brilliant. Where has he been all my Kdrama life????????
Raine! How are you, girl!?
I don’t know if you saw it, but I posted a vid for you last week of YoYoMa playing for the 2002 Olympic opening ceremony. I came across it while looking for something else and thought of you. :0)
I’m probably wrong but The King 2 Hearts is his second drama, right?
I know how much you love his voice. And he deserves all the adoration just as well. I love that scene where he sings while playing the guitar. I was greatly impressed.
I’m hoping that he’ll sing a song for their OST album.
Shel! Imma go check it out!
w00t after work of course…booooooo work!
I totally chickened out of watching ep 9. (>.<) Too much pain to swallow after a long day of study…
Are you going to continue afterwards?
Dude, “killing” is the appropriate word. Heart-wrenching even. Still good, though! Hope your Friday is going well, rtrh!
Duuuuude!
You know that feeling of being smacked down and suffocated? That’s how I felt by the end of episode 10.
Have a great Friday too!
Yeah, man, I really cried in this episode and I usually don’t cry when I watch anything on TV. The acting was so, so very good! I’m almost afraid to watch the next episode, but am looking forward to it at the same time.
Yeah, awesome acting from the cast. Mom was stellar. All these veteran actors have ‘it’, hands down.
You’ve just described what I’m feeling. Afraid and yet the anticipation is thrilling me.
I’m looking forward to watching 9& 10, because it’s torture but torture that’s done so well. I started off loving RP more but somewhere along the line it shifted. Still love RP of course, but now I MUST watch it after K2H because I end up needing the laugh.
It’s torture but torture that’s done so well.
Oooh, I like that!
That is exactly what happened to me. I used to watch RP live and watch K2H unsubbed as soon as it came out on any of the websites.
Then I tried watching both RP and K2H at the same time (split screen) for a week.
But for the past 2 weeks, I have been streaming K2H on ionAirTV with subs and then watching RP when it comes out on viki as the RP team usually finished subbing episode before the K2H team finishes their episode. Don’t know what I am going to do next week because K2H’s next 2-3 episodes are supposed to be “angst-filled” and I really want to know how LG/TY handles PH’s confession.
Ricky, Sena not likely, I do encounter people like Cruella de Eun (sans the skunk hair (tm jomo)) around, dishonesty and then trying to keep that from being found out is all too common.
Btw have you caught Yoo Inna in her new drama?
Skunk hair? DAEBAK! Haha
I’m aware of it. I have too much on my plate to start on a new drama right now. I’ll marathon that drama in one go.
Se-na is just too into herself. She just blames everyone else for the problems she’s having…well she mainly blames Park Ha, but you know what I mean. I think she needs to get her head out of her butt and take a look in the mirror.
As for Eun Kyu-tae…what’s up with that dude? Does he have a split personality? I’m loyal! I’m not! I’m loyal! I’m not! I’d just rather he be straight up evil from the beginning, although, how could have have raised such a good, earnest son like Shi-kyung if he didn’t have good in him? Dang, these dramas messing my thinking up like that.
The girl needs a bashing, that’s what she needs.
Eun Kyu-tae is another enigma to me. Does he or does he not believe in the monarchy system? How frustrating.
And can someone dye his hair a single tone, please?!
Shi-kyung, Shi-kyung.
Praises for this man and the actor behind man.
Hi Ricky,
the question is: was Cruella de Eun that way with the former king (the one who died, can’t remember his name right now)? You get the sense that he might not have been, but then again, he did give the location of his vacation away, maybe because he just thought that Daniel Craig was looking for a chance encounter with the king, as an admirer not fully realizing that he might be in bed with Club M (and by “he” I mean Daniel Craig).
Cruella de Eun seemed to have been loyal to the former king, but maybe he wasn’t totally loyal, since he took bribes from foreigners, as we saw. I find him a little hard to read at times because it’s not like he pocketed the money for himself. It seems it all went to the royal Family, right? Or to South Korea? Which then makes me wonder: what is Cruella’s motivation? Goals?
From what the dad (Cruella) said, it sounds like he doesn’t believe in the monarchy. They are just game pieces, like on a chess board and don’t have much power (even the prime minister didn’t obey to JH requests to announce that North Korea wasn’t involved).
I get the sense that it’s because of Jae-ha that he’s starting to let his real ideologies show.
With Jae-kang on the throne, he’s pacified because Jae-kang was very capable. Jae-ha on the other hand seems to be the last person you (and also Cruella) would expect to become King. Well, he was never suppose to be King in the first place if hyung didn’t die or left a son behind.
So it’s BECAUSE of Jae-ha that Cruella’s true nature is beginning to show, in my opinion. Cruella doesn’t believe in the capabilities of playful good-for-nothing trash Jae-ha as the King. Of course, we know (and Cruella’s son knows it too) that Jae-ha is capable of doing great things. But they say you can’t teach an old dog new tricks..
I find it funny that we now are calling Shi-Kyung’s dad Cruella LOL instead of his name (coined by JB or GF in her recap), I can just imagine him surrounded by dalmatians yapping and him running around overwhelmed by how many there are LOL.
I think I see what you mean. So he did believe in hyung ( because he didn’t do anything to disobey him) but not in JH because he (Cruella) is fixated on how he was until his brother passed away. And maybe the way JH treated HA didn’t help change his opinion of him (Sending her back after an argument, reacted emotionally).
That is sad, because you would think that he would give JH a break, since he has seen him study up on the state’s affairs, staying up all night to get caught up. Doesn’t he trust that with his IQ (187) and some good coaching, JH could become a good king? The former JH would have never stayed up to study and learn what was going on in SK politics and affairs with other countries. I find it interesting that Cruella is so close to JH (and so the changes are happening right under his nose) and yet he is dismissing them.
We are all seeing those changes: the viewers, Shi-Kyung except Cruella. Now we know that emotionally and romantically he (JH) still has some growing to do and issues to work through, but we also know that he loves HA, deeply cares about her and so in time, he will get there.
As a king however, I think that he rose really quickly to the challenges facing him. It is interesting to hear him talk about the royal family and their roles. It makes you realize that he (JH) has a better understanding of who the royal family is and the role they play in SK society. Some of his comments make you think (comments made to Hyung, his sister etc…And even the way he talked about Arirang). He is aware about a lot more than he lets on and he catches on quickly. I like that about him. He is very intelligent, he was just lazy before and not interested in the responsibilities related to the royal family.
Cruella seems apt. HAHA
He’s such an interesting character, albeit extremely frustrating. I think he has good intentions but how far will he go before he realizes that he’s doing it all wrong?
And will he do something really disastrous to the monarchy system? Or will he redeem himself in the end?
Furthermore, I want to know the ‘why’ behind all of his actions? I mean, it can’t possibly because he wants to solely save his own sorry behind for tipping JK’s location and ultimately resulting in JK’s death.
Speaking about interesting characters, Jae-ha is one of them. I agree with what you said about him knowing more than he let on. I think he got used to the idea of having Hyung around as the responsible one. So he played around, acting goofy and full of airs. Reality struck him when Hyung died and he had to take over the throne.
That scene at the end of episode 7 was marvelous. How mom sternly told him to take care of matters now that Hyung died (and how she would take care of the matters in the palace to help him. Gah, brilliant actress!)
@ Ricky,
I like your take on Cruella and I have the same questions you have. I also love how multi-layered JH is and not a one dimensional character and LSG plays him well, not being dumb or an idiot himself (the guy was awarded last year with HJH for how well they saved financially. Impressive, isn’t it?) Also liked your analysis of JH, well said.
So LSG also conveys the different emotions and stages JH goes through and I appreciate that about him. Some Korean actors/actresses are excellent at doing that getting to the cusp of crying (eyes red, tear ready to come out but doesn’t) and LSG does it extremely well! I wonder how they do that, really (like the technique, how they prepare themselves emotionally, etc… )
You mentioned the mom and her scene at the end of ep. 7. That actress is phenomenal. She plays the queen well, so classy but not afraid to speak her mind and sharp, very sharp. I LOVE most of the veteran South Korean actors/actresses starting with some actors in their 30s, 40s and up. It is a feast watching the veteran actors. To me, it is as good as a delicious dessert. Did you watch City Hunter? President? A lot of veterans in those, especially President, that one was so good. President is from last year on KBS. Low ratings but well, really well made political drama. A few flaws here and there, but overall, excellent and the reviewers thought so as well.
@ Iv
Korean actors are phenomenal with crying and on the cusp of crying scenes. I’m sure it takes a lot practice.
I’m easily affected by scenes where veteran actresses are involved, especially if they play mom. I replay mom scenes over and over again.
LMAO cruella de eun.. I love how everyone is calling him that, and i love how his hair is just like her hair, which makes it all the more funnier.
@ Ricky,
I didn’t know you had a soft spot for Korean veteran actresses, especially when they play moms
! How cute and sweet! To the point where you replay them again and again huh? Wow Ricky, you have got it bad
.
. Although to be honest, it would be interesting to be close to them and see how things are run in that palace of theirs. All in all, I agree with you on many things: this show is well done, for the most part. The acting, cinematography, OST etc…are really well done. They invested a lot of money in it and it shows. I would not be surprised if it gets bought by (many) international stations later on.
I also saw your comments earlier about you wanting to live with the King, the princess and Earnest Bot. Man, you have it worse than me
I hope that we will continue to see the former king in flashbacks/memories throughout the drama. He did (the actor who played him) such a good job, it would be nice to see him again. I love the scene where they were watching a soccer game, so sweet and endearing!
I loved it when JH was upfront with his sister when he told her not to go to the vacation spot “They trying to make a baby, why do you want to go and bother them?”Nice to see that they don’t mince their words when talking to each other (the royal family). I guess they really don’t, considering how the mom queen talked to her son and her revealing her husband embarrassing issue to his own son. The writers are quite smart in the way they write the royal family and I like that the characters in this drama are multi-layered.
I’ve always love scenes with old people. The veteran actors make it seem so natural and effortless. You could tell that they have perfected their craft. I wish people would give them more credit.
One of my fav scenes in a drama is when the mom feeds the children. There was one scene in God of Study where Yoo Seung-ho’s character was given a meal by his grandma. They were so poor that she could only feed him plain white rice but she sincerely hoped that the rice would give him energy and strength. *pauses to compose self*
That scene was powerful and it still affects me. There’s something about watching people eat rice with tears streaming down their cheeks that pierces my heart. When I was acting on a play not too long ago, I always used that scene to help me with my acting. To help draw my tears out, so to speak.
Yes, I love the actor who plays Jae-kang. What an awesome hyung!
P/s I may not be able to reply after this, Iv. I hope you understand.
I saw the problem coming when they kept making Se Na responsible for Bak Ha when they were little. Maybe it’s because I’m an oldest child, but there was resentment from Se Na from the beginning. Suddenly she has to share her mom with another guy and another sister, and then to add insult to injury, she gets in trouble when her little sister does (“you’re older, you should know better”). I think my dad (the oldest, but with only one brother….I had five sibs) “got” that issue more than my mom (the youngest of four), because he got in trouble when his brother did something stupid. He always kind of ran interference when Mom was being particularly harsh and came and talked to me about it afterward. It got better as we got older, especially since the sibling I got in trouble for the most went to a different HS than I did, and got into plenty of trouble there where I wasn’t around to keep him out of it.
True.
She has to accept Park-ha as her (adopted) sister.
One thing I really dislike was the fact that she’s ashamed of her fishmonger mom. That makes her less than a human being, in my opinion. I can be very unforgiving towards ungrateful children.
I hear ya, and I agree. I hate how she treats her mom.
And no doubt it was Park Ha’s dad who helped the mom in Se Na’s education and upbringing. Park Ha’s dad probably helped her improve her standard of living. Se Na is absolutely less than human … I fast forward all scenes with her.
Well…
It just might be that believing in what’s best for the country may not be the same as believing in the monarchy.
Or he just might be a big douche.
/shrug
Valid point.
Especially on the last one.
Ricky oppa! (Cruella de Eun…that’s PERFECT, lol) SO glad to see you here, you are one of the highlights of the Friday OT (along with Cherkell, Joanna, Cynthia, Sethe, Ivoire, Ahjummabunny, Raine, Mystisith, Shuk…..Ok there are too many to name, lol)
How goes the school battle? We finally made a decision about the rest of my daughter’s HS education, I hope we can live with it. She’s gonna continue to homeschool and start taking classes at the Jr College, which will count for both high school and college credit. She wants to major in graphic arts, which they offer an AA in, so she can get a head start in that. She hopes to move on to an Animation major at a Unni after that. We had such a dilemma deciding what to do for several reasons, so I’m glad it’s decided. At least, until she changes her mind again.
K2H’s is doing me in, too. I can’t watch unless I have a box of Kleenex and no one around to explain why I’m such a crybaby to. I’m in the middle of ep 10 somewhere, but I paused it to post. Then, it’s off to music lessons for the kid, then to the car dealership to pick up my newly detailed new car, then to the pharmacy….you get the drift. Hopefully, SOMEWHERE in all those places, I can get internet and finish it cuz it’s KILLING me.
Cruella de Eun. Clever, right? Someone came up with that. It wasn’t me.
I have finals in exactly 7 days. O.O
Which brings the question of why I’m here? Haha
I wish your daughter her best! It sounds like it’s going to hectic if she’s going for classes at the college as well as being homeschooled.
I missed you guys last week. There was something wrong with my Internet connection and I was offline last week.
We missed you, big time. But I think we all figured you were studying like crazy, which is more important (although only slightly) than the OT.
So, are you going home after finals, or staying for a summer term? How many more terms/semesters/whatever they do there do you have before you graduate?
My daughter was really wanting some classes in a classroom, but the local high school here has a terrible reputation for discrimination and bullying. Since she’d be one of a handful of white kids, the only Mormon, etc, she’s a bit scared of it. We tried to get a transfer to another district which is a smaller high school, where several of her friends go, but they denied us. I told her we could try the local school, if she was up to it, but she decided against it. So, the junior college classes (which actually have quite a few HS kids) were appealing to her, especially since she can use her HS electives to get some of her AA requirements out of the way, and then be able to complete her 2 year degree in a year after she graduates. We’ll see how it all goes. She’s gonna have to work harder than she does now. Right now, she’d rather twitter than do just about anything else.
“…which is more important (although only slightly) than the OT.”
LOL
I went and read last week’s OT. It was very nice of all of you to notice my disappearance.
I’m going home right the following day after my last paper. I thought of staying but my mom demanded that I get my butt back home.
I have to complete 9 semesters before I graduate.
I think it’s normal for a teenager to feel scared in a new place. It’s good that both of you found a place where she’s comfortable enough to study.
Your mom will be glad to see you. We’ve tried demanding The Boy get his butt back home, but it’s harder now that he’s like 30 and married, lol. BUT, he got one of his law internships near us and they will be here for the summer. My teenager is thrilled, she loves her brother, and I’m excited to have them. Especially, since my DIL has promised to do some painting for us and to tutor the Kid in writing skills while she’s here. (DIL is a high school English creative writing teacher)
So, you’ll have your mom to spoil you for the summer. That will be lovely, home cooking and mom-spoiling is the best. And 9 semesters sounds like a long haul. Is it 2 or 3 a year?
Sorry for butting in about your daughter, but I think that’s a good way to go because it’s exactly what I did. I got the college experience and I’m on track to graduate a year early…so good luck to her! It’s not a whole lot of work, actually, and college is a more mature environment than high school, so I’m sure she’ll enjoy it.
I agree with diorama.
My mom has an advantage because she’s the only woman I’ve got presently. No wife-person getting in the way, so to speak. But I’ll be home for a few weeks, tops. She has to do her mothering in a short time. LOL
9 semester is really the minimum. I have the freedom to play around with my schedules & determine how many subjects I’ll be taking for a particular semester. Generally 3 – 4 years.
I think DIL would live with us, if The Boy would, lol. She’s not crazy about where they live now, but they are there for school. She says their plan is to come back after school and get a job somewhere near us because, out of four sets of parents, we are the only “sane ones”. (her words, lol). I’m not so sure we’re all that “sane”, but comparatively speaking…..the other three sets most definitely have “issues”. I’m amazed both those kids are so well-adjusted, lol.
Shel! Now I’m scared to watch k2H I stopped at ep 6 where they get caught making out! HOTTTTTT
But I’ll marathon it I think. JJS kinda makes that show for me. Everyone else is brilliant but he seriously makes the show for me.
awwww, some JJS love, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE his character.
I”m sure it’ll be all right before the end. Most Kdramas are predictable that way. Every once in a while, they surprise you …..not always in a good way (see 49 days)….but generally the OTP gets together in the end.
SO, generally, I don’t get all teary-eyed watching them, cuz it’s all gonna work out, right? But this one, the acting is so intense and the storyline is great and I”m really invested in it. If the writers don’t fling it off the track somewhere, it’s gonna be up there with my favorite shows of all time.
RTP has me in a quandry though, cuz I’m not sure how it should end. Should he go back and find out that the Crown Princess isn’t dead, the younger sister is? Or should he find a way to stay where he is and be with Bak Ha? Or can he take Pak Ha back with him (can you imagine what they’d make of her back there? ha!). The whole time travel thing has the thing so twisted up that I’m not sure what a good ending is. I’ll just watch and wait and smile at all four of those cute boys cuz they are all just adorable.
Yes, how will RTP ends?
I agree about the intensity of The King 2 Hearts. Riveting, to say the least.
One of my close friends did what your daughter is doing and she just graduated from a private university. She loved her HS education and it worked well for her.
Rickie!! So glad you could come up for air from your finals.
My day got sunnier!
Aww, Shukie.
And my day (well night, really) got better because of what you said!
Well, I have to suck up to my favorite terrorist-beating, palm-kissing Big Man On Campus….
Ricky oppa!!! Glad to see you’re back — I’ll do a special pout/wiggle for you to make up for lost time due to your absence last week.
Do eeeeeetttt!!!!
pout/wiggle/step… pout/wiggle/step… pout/wiggle/step… OW OW OW OW OW!!!
Dangit. Shoulda stuck with the Bo Peep dance instead. Bopeep bopeep bopeep bopeep bopeep bopeep bopeep bopeep awwww…
Bwahaahaha! Sorry to laugh at your pain, but that was very funny. ;0)
BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I love you, Comrade cherkell!
oh, dancing! I call dibs on the three little bears dance from Full House!
4! Not bad. I LOVE Rooftop Prince and can’t wait for next week! And I can’t wait until Se-Na gets her come uppance (I don’t know how to spell that). It also sucks because Park Ha can’t be the one to reveal how bad Se-Na is because the tattle tale always gets blamed for being petty, etc. sigh … another week to wait.
Stacey,
If I don’t see her floating face down in the Han river by episode 20, there’s no justice in this world.
lmao! wouldn’t that just beat it all!? having her died in the future just like in the past!??? ahahhaahahha you need to tell the writer of the drama this!
*wonder if them writers ever cruise the internet forums for ideas?*
Well if they want my ideas, they should contact me.
I have one where Se-na marries Bong-gu and then they got stuck in an island. She became crazy because of Bong-gu’s incessant need to show her his magic tricks. And he? Well, he’s already crazy to start with.
There’s also one where Se-na has lunch with Cruella de Eun and the whole place blew up.
Ooh…I like this one, too.
ahahahhahahahhaha! hilarous! ^_^ 0_0
Sena would die of going crazy after listening to another crazy.
Much deserved that!
Lol. That scenario is win.
LOL Ricky,
both your scenari were hilarious! I guess they do teach you a thing or two at that school of yours, if you can come up with those kinds of schemes:-)
It’s all in the imagination, Ivoire. Hehe
Amen, Ricky! I just wanna pull all her hair out and I’m a non-violent person.
I’m non-violent too but she just makes me *gestures choking someone*, you know.
But you know something, it’s pretty cool how she went from that sweet as pie jilted fiancee in A Thousand Day’s Promise to this….this….WITCH of a woman.
I constantly need to remind myself that the actress who plays Se-na is probably a good filial daughter who makes money to support her parents by playing effective villains.
Stacey,
I totally know how you feel about Se-na, but my heart rather LOVES her character. Without her the tension wouldn’t be as PITCH perfect as it is. She’s clever and plays everyone soooooo well. And Jung Yu-mi has the best smirk and SMILE. Have you ever seen a face transform so beautifully when she smiles?
The whole cast is brilliant and the chemistry between them is sizzling.
Raine,
I agree with what you said about Jung Yu-mi, her being casted and how she is playing her role. She does transform beautifully when she smiles and she can manipulate really well. She is also not dumb and she catches on quickly.
Ivoire, but all villians catches on quickly, there’s hardly stupid villians. They are villians because they are smarties but using their brains for the wrong reasons!! oh, she’s so bad….
Happy Friday, everyone! JB and GF and all Dramabeans peeps — thanks so much for your recaps this week. They have all given me lots of good reading to do throughout this week which has been a bit weird on my end, so all the good Dramabeans stuff gives me a little bit of stability in the entertainment department. My OT contribution for the week:
- I finally watched “Chilling Romance”/”Eerie Romance”/”Spellbound” last weekend. I actually liked it. It was both funny and creepy at the same time. Lee Min Ki was pretty awesome in it. He even had a crying scene which I was surprised to see, but he totally worked it. Very enjoyable.
- Speaking of LMK, has anyone seen the online catalog “The Class” which he modeled for (I’m assuming recently)? He looks very spring-like/summer-like in the photos. So cute and dapper at the same time! Check it! http://www.e-theclass.co.kr/
- In addition to RTP and K2H, I’m loving “Love Rain”. Yoona is doing a much better job acting from episodes 5 and on. I have no idea how they will resolve the thing going on with Yoona’s and JGS’s parents past love story, but if they do follow the “Love Story” movie, the mom will die some time, I’m guessing, which story-wise would be better for Yoona and JGS’s relationship. We’ll see how it goes. Supposedly the young soon-to-be lovers will kiss next week. I’m looking forward to that quite a bit, I admit. Considering I didn’t really like JGS at first, this is a 360-degree turnaround for me.
- I have pinned photos like crazy this week on my k-famous-people board on Pinterest. One of the last things I pinned was a photo of Kim Yerim from 1stLook Korea and it got repinned more times than I expected. It even got pinned more than some of the k-guy pictures I have on there — and I have some ab-tastic ones, too. There’s a lot more k-pop/k-drama fans on there than I thought, I’m happy to say.
- In non k-news, I met up with an old friend (whom I haven’t seen for at least 3 years) for dinner, and it was absolutely wonderful spending time with her, and laughing up a storm with her. Unrelated, I also lost 7 pounds in the past week and a half, as I strive to look even remotely cute for this wedding I will be attending in August. Trying to lose weight by eating more properly and now going to the gym 5x/week (for the past few weeks) is less painful than the bruise on my ego that I have to do all this stuff in the first place. What do they say? “Enjoy your pain, you’ve earned it.” No kidding. Then I remember: “Pain is temporary. Pride is forever.” As Chris Parnell and Andy Samberg say in “Lazy Sunday”: true that, double true.
- One last thing, since I mentioned Kim Yerim. It’s kinda funny: I discovered that my husband actually likes “Love U, Like U” from SUFBB. He has asked me to play that for him a few times now, since I bought the SUFBB OST…haha! Resistance to the k-pop-culture-world is futile.
About Love Rain, I think the mom will eventually die, since they said she was sick, and that’s why Yoona’s character wanted to find her first love again. I’m also liking Love Rain, though sometimes I wish Yoona’s character would stand up to JGS’s character and stop being pushed around so much (she has to amp up the spunk). I think Yoona is doing okay so far.
JSG’s character is pretty much a harsher version of his You’re Beautiful character, but he plays that character so well. Though I wish they would show more sides of him than his mean, pissed off , “I’m acting like I don’t care about you” attitude (like when his father rejected his mother when she wanted to get back together, and you see in JSG’s eyes his frustration and angst about the situation, I want to see more of that).
@ldd
I know what you mean about Ha Na/Yoona standing up to Joon/JGS. I was gritting my teeth in episode 5 because she was so scared she’d lose her phone. I was like, dude, it’s not worth being pushed around by a jackass (no matter how cute he is)! It’s good that Joon likes Ha Na now because she can push his buttons a bit more, whether she knows it or not.
I actually just started watching You’re Beautiful because I wanted to see something else that JGS was in. His character seems similar so far. I also have to check out Mary Stayed Out All Night as well. We’ll see how that goes. At least in the first 4 episodes of Love Rain JGS played a different character than I’ve been used to seeing so far. From episode 5 and on, I hope he expresses his frustration, even to his guy friends about his parents’ situation, and maybe even frustration about liking Ha Na. *cross fingers*
Glad you’re checking out You’re Beautiful. That’s one of my guilty pleasure dramas! Very good imo, and I love the music! And the first drama I saw JGS. In all honesty, I didn’t want to watch it because he looked weird to me (shallow, I know), but then he pretty much carried the show and was all kinds of awesome acting-wise. The girl is kinda irritating, though.
But I would skip Mary Stayed Out All Night – now that was a baaad drama.
oh, I don’t know…I mean, yes, the drama itself drags on interminably in the middle, but if she just wants to check out Sukkie being adorable, there’s PLENTY of that to go around in MSOUN. Just keep your finger on FF, Kewbie, and only watch scenes that have MGY, JGS, and Jae Wook in them.
OMG I love it. Your husband cannot resist!
Congrats on the weight loss. I’m going more slowly. 3 pounds, exercise 4x a week and diet change.
Thank you! Yes, I’m trying to turn the hubs on to BIGBANG now. He said that G-Dragon sounds like Lil Wayne, when he’s singing/rapping in “Bad Boy” hehe.
Hahaha! I ctually started listening to K-pop and it just brings me back to my high school days. This is exactly the style of music on the radio back then. As for BB, Daesung has the most developed voice which is strange cause he’s so young…
My sister has watched the first few episodes of love rain and said it’s not bad. I’m glad to hear that a few people like this drama.
I’m still waiting to marathon the whole thing when it’s done. ^^ Awww… wonder if I’ll have time since more awsome dramas are suppose to be out following the current bunch. hmm…
I can tell you for sure that episodes 5 and on really pick up! I will probably keep talking about Love Rain in OT until it ends, but really there are so many good ones playing right now, it’s hard to keep track!
Kewbie~
Re Love Rain. JGS’s “attitude ” is a bit annoying, although it looks as though he’s starting to soften a bit.
He’d better do something, as it looks as though the other boy, Joon, likes Ha Na. He’s a kind, caring guy so that means in Dramaland, he’ll lose out.
What’s up with Ha Na’s crush, Tae Sung? Does he really have a GF from his past or is it a misunderstanding?
Yoona is doing a good job, I like her present day character better than her 70′s character.
Re JGS, I just finished watching Hwang Jin Yi, and his character died in that drama. Dying for love in one and pretending he doesn’t like her in the other.
Re gym 5x. Well, August is a long ways off. If you keep at it you’ll look Absolutely Fabulous*. Does the gym offer a trainer ? If so and if it’s specific goal you’re trying to achieve perhaps they can help. Effort x Time = Success!
I exercise during my breaks at work. Crunches, leg lifts, squats. On the week ends I walk 3 miles with hand weights. I’ll walk to the high school and use the track there. I can swing the weights to my hearts abandon far out of sight of anyone that might think, “What is that dolt doing?”
*Re Absolutely Fabulous, have you watched that show? LOL.
The Pet Shop Boys song by that name would make a good work out song if you’re doing aerobics .
D’oh, I meant to say it looks like Sun Ho is taking an interest in Ha Na. He’s the nice guy that will finish last. Hopefully Joon will realize just how sweet Ha Na is and treat her better.
Hey everybody. Happy Friday. Last night I caught up on Feast of the Gods…..and I really love it. Now I’m sad that I’ve caught up and back to waiting….waiting….
This is why I hate staying current with dramas. Lol. I’m waiting on K2H, RP, EM and now this. Aigoo~
WOW!
All three at the same time? Are you out of your mind?
Oh, goodness I rhymed! LOL *pats self on head*
lol. I am.
Hah!
You’re a poet and you don’t know it!!
(Sorry – couldn’t stop myself…)
LOL
Happy Friday!
So excited/dreading next week’s episodes of TK2H. I was surprised to learn that it’d be 20 episodes, I thought it’d be just 16. On one hand, yay! for more of LSG & HJW…but on the other hand, we’ll probably get some draggy episodes during the middle of the second half.
Has anyone else watched Queen In-hyun’s Man? Hope it’ll be subbed soon as a recap from my fave bloggers is not possible at this point. *sigh* So far, I like it. It has different vibes from Rooftop which I’m currently not watching but following through the recaps.
Anyway, I was happy with Nora Roberts’ new book (her 200th!). Finished it in one seating. Also happy that Pottermore’s open at last. Signed up and will probably buy the official HP ebooks. So far, I like the site…got my wand from Ollivander’s and will be sorted by the hat shortly.
Hi Ace!
I watched first 2 eps of Queen In-hyun’s Man, and loved it! I just love when our hero arrives in our time and gets paralysed while the girl keeps talking on and on. He has that astonished puppy face with “i don’t understand nothing of what you are saying…” written all over it’s face… Priceless. And this is why i love that actor.
And ladies and gentlemen, we already have a certified jerk: A guy who wears pink leopard jackets can be nothing but a jerk right?
*Spoiler Alert* I don’t quite get yet how he can go through time back and forth. Was it because of the parchment that he got form the gisaeng?
The Jerk: what a douchebag. Was mortified on Hee Jin’s behalf when he pulled up the shades when she was changing her clothes.
Anyway, lol’d at Yoo Inna’s character when she dropped her cellphone from the cab just when the she got the call to get casted as In-hyun.
I’m not sure i understood everything since i watched it raw, but the parchment seems to open the time door when the blood of the traveler is spilled on it.
It’s a protection amulet from a temple.
I loved the talking to the phone in the drain scene. So unique LOL.
Hi Myst, where did you catch Queen In-hyun’s Man? Looking for raws/subs/recaps.
You can watch it at dramacrazy and KRdrama if you use streaming.
Thank you! I guess they are raws then. Googling for recaps to help but not finding any though.
I found subs! But it’s C-subs. Off I go watching for Yoo Inna.
Oh, bring my undying love to her, topper.
She sure is bringing on the pretty, Ricky.
Oh I didn’t realize that QIM started already! How is the acting? I can’t bring myself to watch it yet because I didn’t really like the dude’s character in A Thousand Kisses. I’m hoping his character is better in this one.
Lol. Well it’s just a ‘character’ so try not to let his image be spoiled in your mind. I think I’ll go on downloading the raws for this one because my drama plate is full.
Same here: Watched it, loved it and am fervently hoping for subtitles though I will keep on watching it even if there are none. Where there is a will but only minimal korean language skills, there is surely a way. Queen Inhyun’s Man Fighting!!!
Hi ace!
which book is it!?
I just finished with her newest book, the witness! omg, it was good. a little romance with suspense. I like the storyline and how the plotline went without dangering the hero and heroine’s life. Heroine’s kickass! yea! awsome. LOL
The Witness! I actually wanted more courtroom scenes at the end to confront the villain so it was a little frustrating that it was so short, but I get that the book would’ve been too long already. Overall it’s one of her best stand alone novels. Will read it again this weekend.
Waiting for book 2 of her newest trilogy out on May 1 (The Last Boyfriend).
Heheh! yes, it would have been good if there was more on how the baddies got caught and went down. A little more detailed after ILya after he opened his email would have been nice. I wanted to see him lose everything and even find out that it was her who brought him down. ^^
Happy Friday DBeaners.
New for me this week from kdramas, a simple phrase like “I Am Bong Gu” can have this you go king effect.
Bong-gu is demented. He gives me the creeps sometimes. I don’t understand his motivation of wanting to overthrow the royal family. Maybe he’s just plain insane though.
He is just that kind of “I want to rule the world” egomaniac. It’s not a specific agenda against the royal family, but them getting in his way. As he said he killed the King just because he was slighted by being refused entry to SK and not because of other reasons much.
I hated the magic tricks but I am starting to loathe him which is what you want in villains. And wow that one and one show down, still feeling the tingles.
That scene was good. They need to have more scenes with together. Maybe Hang-ah can join in and kick Bong-gu’s ass afterwards, too.
Ha! He apparently had visions of being the king when he was a kid, though, what’s up with that? I’d like to see a bit more backstory on him, so we can see what his motivation is. Unless, of course, it really is just insanity. He definitely gives me the creeps.
And Hang Ah COULD kick his butt, that would be fun to watch.
A manhandling of Bong Gu by Hang Ah will be extremely satisfying. Best if it’s in the toilet too and her finishing move ends with his head in the toilet bowl.
Sure, if the writer can stop writing Hang ah as sweet and weak in the second half of the drama. She started off well–being strong, confident as a soldier. But as a woman in love, her character has—well, been kinda passive? not so kick ass.
Even if she is the Queen (since we know they will get together some time in the drama).
I’m hoping with the villian in more, the writer/s will make her strong and protect the King if needed be.
Oooh, Bong-gu’s head in a toilet bowl! Can I please flush?!
I actually don’t think Hang-ah has become weak. It has always been shown that being a kick-ass soldier is her job. She’s just a girl looking for love inside. Of course, this does not mean that someone looking for love can’t be kick-ass awesome.
I’m so glad that Ha Ji-won is the actress btw.
Happy OT all! IT’s been a great week with all the killer dramas in their climax points. I’ve just been reading the recaps this week but will definitely catch up on the watching another time.
I just saw BigBang’s dance cover for fantastic baby and it is hilarous good! ^^ here’s the link. awsome.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qk4aWXRpmWM&feature=player_embedded
other than that, I like Ella’s mv for Bad Girl. Song’s pretty good.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHHopkO-zj4&feature=BFa&list=PL9B44B800C5018455
I watched the winner and couldn’t stop laughing. They’re hilarious!
Hi nuri!
YEsh! they are hilarious and good! I”m glad they won. ^^ Much deserve. Love the ending where they sat on their thrones–wearing bows, not crown. ahahhhaha
Hi cv!
the beginning is my favorite. that hair brushing scene. Also TOP doppelganger make me realize not everybody can pull the ‘blue’ looks
LOL yesh.. not everyone looks good in mint–blue hair color. TOP sure looks hot in any hair color.
I can pick out lots of fun stuff–love how taeyang was sitting on a toilet—I was cracking up when i saw that. I’ve watched it a few times already. can’t forget the hand drawn tattoos. ^^Tap on daeseung’s nipples. ahahaha
and that lionish… funni!
Omg – that cover is hilarious! Especially the end shot where one of them is busy with his ‘handafone’!
Thanks for the link.
That was a hoot! Almost spit ice water all over my keyboard.
It was…wow…um…fantastic, maybe…
hee hee hee
I’m glad you guys liked it! ^^ I know I did. Cant get enough of Big Bang! 0 _^
I still can’t forgive the hairstylist for the silver hair. blue i get. silver is no no. thank god that was a long time ago!
Good morning/afternoon/evening/weekend everyone
1. Dying of allergies…anyone else?
2. Anyone ever apply for year abroad scholarships (ex. Fulbright)? Any advice?
3. Any MCAT/GRE subject test takers out there? How should I prep? A course or a study group of my own making with own books… seeing advantages and disadvantages for both.
4. Rewatched “What’s Up Fox” recently as well as CYHMH. Totally understand why I loved them so much. Sometimes, it doesnt work that way, and you go back and wonder why you wasted so much time lol
5. Anyone watching Grimm/Criminal Minds/Community/Supernatural? What do you think of Renard’s sneaky ways? Feel sorry for Griffin? How do you feel about Juliet? And, how cute were Abed and Annie?! That was a fun episode… Also, Leviathans?! wtf… I wish they’d move on :/
6. Side note: Read a great Buffy/SPN fanfic recently. If that’s your thing, I can rec.
Hi alvina!
Allergy’s? heck yea! I used to not have any but now, it’s like, sniff here and there, eyes watering. Pollen and trees really getting to me. arrgh@!
Seriously. Tried taking a claritin but I’m still getting effects lol. It doesnt help that we havent installed the aircon yet and have to keep the windows open for vent… that’s life I suppose XD
I truly wonder if they can invent something more efficient soon… If the theory about “we’re too clean, that’s why our body is attacking us” is true, I think I might just go outside and roll around in the mud lol
ahahahhahahah! mud, should be fun! Lol
but yea, I’m wondering if I’m eating, taking in too much chemical made stuff that’s not good for the body? Seems like we are basically destroying our own self ?
would be awsome if there’s such thing—miracle pill that solve the allergy problem!
Have you ever tried a neti pot? I’ll use one when I get too conjested. I used to take Rx for allergies, to heck with taking that stuff.
Lol, I’ll live with my face peeling, (the side effect of my allergies) , it’s only a few weeks out of the year. That might be the cat fur that causes that.
Peachfuzz the cat has been with us for 12+ years and is a loyal beast, I can’t get rid of her.
Poor cat and your love for her overriding your allergy woes haha. That’s a story right there!
I have a neti pot at home, and once I get past the strangeness of it (feels like I’m in a pool and took in too much water which is, in fact, exactly what it is) it kind of helps. Until I go out into the outside world again, at least lol. I hope they’ll invent that invent that universal anti-allergy pill for us all, so you can live happily with your cat, and I can love the outdoors again
Tried Grimm last Friday and couldn’t stop…finished ep.17 and was gleeful that the hexenbiest “died”. Still wondering what kind of Wesen’s Sean Renard and what he really wants from the Grimm. I actually felt more sorry for Wu than Griffin what with all the stuff he’s been consuming.
I dont know if Cpt Renard is a wessen in the traditional sense… with the control over the hellhound like priest, the various people referring to him as highness, and the badassness he displays in reaction to reapers, I’m thinking he’s some kind of wessen royalty. Maybe not necessarily an “animal”, but someone that has control over them? It makes sense if there’s soo many wessen out there, for them to have their own justice/government. Some people suggest that he’s a “fox”… I dont know French, so I’ll take their word for it lol.
Poor Wu. I was all O_o when he ate that paper clip…all that from a stolen cookie! I think theres a lessen there
Allergies are getting me nuts: Serial sneeze and hives.
I really loved What’s up Fox? and CYHMH: I’m so sad for Kim Jae-won and his shoulder which doesn’t want to heal. The guy has to stop working for a while, so it was a big injury…
Wait, didn’t he make a full recovery 2 months ago? It popped out again? D:
I know! I’m kind of glad, in retrospect, that he didnt get that drama role he was supposed to immediately. I dont even remember the name of the drama he dropped out of, that’s how much I didnt like it
I dont know what it is about What’s Up Fox… it’s the combination of great soundtrack, fun side characters, and chemistry that just clicked with me. That’s my “standard” drama that I kind of compare everything to, as bad as that is.
Me Too, Flower? lol
I just read up that he felt pain again after practicing some dance choreography for a fan-meeting. Dance choreo after an arm injury? I don’t think that was too smart–who put him up to that? I know these fan-meetings are big events, but I think he’ll be fine if he just sits there talks with the audience and smiles. Honestly, just let them ask him questions and take pictures…
I’m allergic to Se-na.
LOL. I imagine a lot of people ~wish~ they were just to have a medical excuse not to see her. I wonder if they’ll make her more sympathetic/try to see things from her angle. She’s so hateful in a fun, albeit frustrating, way
She’ll forever be in my black book.
If the writers can make me sympathetic towards her then that’s really saying something.
I say let’s tie Tae-mu and Se-na together, and send them to dinosaur’s time. I want to check their running speed…
Oh, hear hear!
^LOL! Suddenly thinking of Jurrassic Park or The Lost World.
She’ll be the first one to die in Jurassic Park. The one who would be gutted by tiny chicken-like dinosaurs.
…Leaving nothing but her shoes and the bracelet Yi Gak gave her…
Seems like a fitting ending for her.
If they go back to Dinosaur times, can I eat Se Na and take Tae Mu as my mate?
I figured you would like that.
Hi Alvina, happy Friday! Yes, I am with you on the allergies. They really suck.
I hope you took some good meds. I took Claritin this morning and it’s actually kicking in quick for once.
lol. I wish. Hopefully it’ll get better soon… I’m hoping that the hot weather is speeding up the seasonal process… no ecologist here, so I only have my wishful thinking to go on
I’m loving the mutual support, not that I want other people to suffer from allergies too, but it’s cool to see I’m not the only one. IRL, I’m the only one in the classroom that’s hacking up a sneezing storm, while everyone gives me concerned/pitying/annoyed looks. Makes me want to skip a couple of weeks until it dies down lol.
I hear you, girl. Just drink a lot of water to wash away all the pollen and/or toxins. I’ve also tried a neti pot, which, although helps, still feels funny to me. Anyway, hang in there! Alvina, fighting!
are allergies and low precipitation ( lack of snow!) correlated? I’m an itchy sneezing girl and that’s new.
I dont know, but that’s certainly an interesting theory. There are a lot of people that have them, when they didnt really experience symptoms before. A mild winter might have allowed more trees/plants to survive?
I hope you feel better :/
Allergies. Ugh! THere are approximately 8 million acacia trees blooming within a mile of my house, I’m surprised we aren’t buried in yellow powdery pollen. I should just buy the Kimberly Clark company….it’d be cheaper than all this Kleenex we’re buying. And I”m on Zyrtec and Naselchrom (or whatever it’s called)
I hope yours calm down soon…
I know what you mean. There’s something scary about being able to see that layer of yellowish pollen.. Lol at buying the Kimberly Clark company. Bulk sales of tissue boxes are like heaven
I hope we both feel better soon!
If someone saw me this time of year without my red nose, they wouldn’t recognize me, lol. :0) Although, I have to say that nasal spray changed my life. Even on Zyrtec or Claritin I would still have allergies so bad I could barely function. At least with the added nasal spray (which I resisted because I hate nasal sprays…ugh), I only have mild allergies. I just have to deal with always having a Kleenex box within reach, instead of doing everything one handed.
We were in Catalina once with The Boy and his wife, and we saw a Kleenex box cover that looked like an Easter Island statue with the kleenex coming out of his nose. My DIL laughed and laughed, and then told me that when The Boy’s allergies get really bad, he just stuffs Kleenex up his nose, lol. I never saw him do that here, he must have acquired that trick in college. :0)
Regarding MCAT/GRE subject tests… it really depends on your preferred learning method and style, I think. What’s certainly true is that formal courses will drill into you test-taking strategies, whereas you’d have to find those on your own if you didn’t take a formal course.
I undoubtedly lost myself plenty of points by not taking a formal course, but I could only ever see these tests as knowledge tests… so, the formal courses that offered learning and practicing ways to approach the tests seemed… I dunno… not just wrong, but wrong-headed, somehow.
I studied alone for both the MCAT and GRE subject tests, and ended up doing very well on all, but the irony here is that probably the majority of those who took their Kaplan courses and learned MCAT-taking strategies, while I struggled alone over my test books at Starbucks — most of them are probably decent and successful doctors now, while I’ve left the field and am still kind of… y’know… seeking myself
Thank you for the great advice Sethe! I understand what you mean about test taking strategies and needing a course to learn methods. It always seem strange that formal courses about knowledge based tests rely so heavily on strategy. I’m sure it helps though…
I figure I might self study first and then, if need be, take up a course.
Also, there’s nothing wrong with “finding yourself”. There are multiple routes in life despite our very similar beginnings lol. Thanks again. I’ll really consider my plans more seriously.
Gah allergies!! I’ve been walking around looking like a blowfish for about three days. None of my medication is working.
Now you’re making me want to re-watch ‘What’s up, fox?’. Not only do I have a lengthy ‘To Watch’ list, I also have a pretty substantial ‘Rewatch’ list.
oh no!!! At least Claritin is easing ~some~ of my symptoms. I can’t imagine having none of them work on me. I hope it rains soon so you’ll feel better.
Apologies about adding to your rewatch list lol. I’m still working on identifying some of the soundtrack music in that drama… Do you have any idea what that song is when Chul Soo is driving on his motorcycle in episode 1? I’ve been trying to figure that out for years
Haha..it did rain and I feel tons better. Thanks!
I don’t know the song at the moment, but I’ll give it a listen upon my rewatch and get back to you if I find out. If I recall the OST for WUF was pretty awesome as well.
Hi hi!
If you are taking the MCAT, definitely take a course, most of my friends have done much better with a course because it forced them to stick to their timelines and track their progress. Plus programs like princeton review are really good at helping test takers develop techniques to shorten time needed for understanding the questions on the test. It is really hard to study for these tests on your own. I personally took the GRE and I studied for it on my own which I will admit was really difficult to do with a full time job, so time management became an issue. It basically comes down to what type of person you are and if you are willing to spend the money for a course for the GRE. Most of the people I know studied for the GRE on their own using princeton and kaplan books and did fine so I don’t know if a course will help much but a course is necessary for the MCAT. Also for the GRE start early on vocabulary, you will need it for the verbal section. As for the subject tests for the GRE, I don’t know if there are courses for them and most people just buy books for them and use the resources on the ETS site. It also depends on the subject test you are taking, I took the molecular and biochemistry test (so hard T__T, if you are biology just take the biology subject test, it’s a lot easier and is the test most people take) and there wasn’t any course or books available so I had to go by their overview and practice tests and my personal textbooks to study the material but most of the other subjects have a lot of review books that were really helpful.
Hope this helps!
That most definitely helps! I hardly know anyone that’s taken a GRE subject test, so it’s hard to process what I’ll need to do for that. I think I’ll take Biology and Psychology; I know people who took the BioChem test and talking about how difficult it was. It kind of scared me away lol. Besides, I dont need that one for grad school, so I didnt find it necessary.
I’m still undecided about the prep courses though. There are multiple advantages, all of them you’ve listed, so I think it comes down to time and money lol. I’ll think on it some more, but your advice is very attractive. Thanks for the help
Alvina -
My nose was running like a faucet yesterday. Stupid allergies!
Love Bufffffy!
I concur. Plant sex ruins everything
Hahahha!
HAHAHAHAHAHA
Haa haa haa
Wait [Looking at car]
Eewwwwwwwww
@Alvina: When I took GRE subject tests (I did both maths and computer science subject tests), I actually used study guides and practice tests. Most of the study guides have a sample test that you can use to see where your weaknesses are and then subject matter to cover most of what comes in the test. Good luck in your preparation.
Thank you very much Hillary! Yea, I figure I’d purchase the texts from the website and see how I do before signing up for a test date. Thanks for the advice and the wishes.
Loved Rooftop Prince this week, I’ve been too afraid to start watching King 2 Hearts, don’t think I am emotionally ready to face its plot turn, not with exams coming up anyway.
I know I am pretty late into the Hunger Games hype, but I marathoned the trilogy just recently after watching the movie last week. Am I the only one who hated the last book Mockingjay? There were bits which were okay, but Katniss’s character growth or lack of, frustrated me. And the way we were given privy to Katniss’s thoughts just left me with the impression she had the emotional capacity of a teaspoon. Its either the writing or Katniss doesn’t know how she feels until someone tells her. I mean Katniss is so kick-ass in every other situation, but when it comes to her feelings, she is such a coward.
This is just my opinion, and my irritation is mainly because I quite enjoyed the first two books and I felt the third ruined it.
I think many many people had a problem with the last book in the trilogy. I think it was the general feeling that Collins wanted to end it and move on or something? I remember people discussing it on the amazon forums when the books first came out… the general opinion has since then shifted more positively…perhaps influenced by the movies or the general fame of the series?
Personally, I dont really like apocolyptic books in the first place. The series is like… “Battle Royale” meets “The Giver” which just about killed me
*raises hand* In my unfiltered opinion, Mockingjay was chaotic dross. I have no idea what happened to narrative pacing, character continuity, and just plain sense. It was like Suzanne Collins wrote while on some wacko medication, and like you said it’s worse because the first two books were quite decent? Yeah, a LOT of people (justly) hated the last book.
By the way, am I the only one who thought that the movie wasn’t as good as it could have been? Then again, SC was a producer…
I didn’t like Mockingjay either. Not only for the Katniss issues that you raised but the entire direction of the book. Why build up two great books to have everything just everything fall apart in the last book? Also I hated the character assassination of Gale. I don’t know if I was reading the book wrong but it just seemed like he was body snatched in the last book, all of his decisions seemed out of character.
By the time I read the third book, I was reduced to this.
“Here we go again…blah blah blah…fighting…people dieing – who are they? who cares?…blah blah blah…oh, wait, Katniss survives. Yaaaawn.”
I’m hoping I don’t feel that way about Veronica Roth. I loved Divergent.
Divergent is the bomb, yo.
Yes, sometimes I channel Randy Jackson.
I’m reading Divergent now, about half way through and loving it so far.
I agree with the HG trilogy, the first book was awesome, but I wasn’t as crazy about the rest of them.
I recently saw the Hunger Games movie without reading any of the books beforehand. I thought it was pretty decent but it didn’t blow me away. I did like Katniss though. Actually I liked all the actors, which is really rare in a teens film.
Friday!
Finished:
Hwang Jin Yi
SPEC
SPEC is all kinds of awesome
Watching: Love Rain
Probably will watch the J Drama Jin
j-drama spec? because that drama was all kinds of awesome.
Yes, J-drama SPEC.
Erika Toda’s character was fantastic.
yeah her character and largely the storyline was amazing. the ending was a bit lackluster for me but everything else made up for that.
The original Lord of the Flies is a great film.
Ah, the Lord of the Flies reply was for a different post, lol.
When she sniffed the florist and swooned, I LOL’d
I loved SPEC! I think the movie just came out in Japan, and I heard something about there being a special too, but I haven’t seen one online yet. It will be interesting to see what happens after the series ended.
Glad someone out there shares the same thoughts as me about SPEC. I felt the storyline was good and am really looking forward to the movie. Will probably have to wait 6 months before it’ll be out on the net. The english subs for the SP is already out. Try google?
ooo thanks for the tip! I’ll have to look. I need something to tide me over before the movie makes it online ha ha
Hi John — hope you’re doing well this Friday!
What is SPEC about?
Also, what do you think is going to happen between Joon’s dad and Ha Na’s mom in Love Rain? I’m thinking the mom will die eventually, a la Love Story, just not sure when, and if things will get resolved between the parents before something like that happens.
SPEC is a police drama. They handle ” strange” cases. It involves folks with “special” powers. X-Files would the closest show I can compare it to.
How and why did Joon’s dad marry the semi-bitchy gal? LOL.
Joon is a piece of work, I’d like to punch him. Hard to say about the adults. I just hope it doesn’t get all crazy melo .
Why do you think that the mother is going to die? She had TB but recovered from it – enough to marry and have a child, and now it’s obvious that her latest health problem is that she’s going blind. (Shades of Winter Sonata. This PD seems to adore fatal diseases/blindness, etc.)
It looks like the mother will have a big spell of ‘Noble Idiot’ syndrome and will spurn her first love for his ‘own good’.
These Season dramas do follow their own melo formulas.
I’m just guessing she’s going to die. In ep 8 she started talking to Ha Na in that greenhouse near their house saying, “Mom needs to stay strong for a little longer. I need to see you get married, and I need to see your kids. I need to see everything…” Then Ha Na was all like, why are you talking like that? Then mom says that she doesn’t want to be a burden for her. Plus she totally led In Ha/Joon’s dad to believe that her husband was still alive (so that he would leave her alone, I assume). It just didn’t look promising to me. Besides, if Ha Na’s mom and Joon’s dad got together, then Joon and Ha Na would be step-siblings and that would mess things up. In the ep 9 preview we see Ha Na’s mom kinda bracing herself as she walks down the street, while Joon’s dad is looking at her from afar. She looks like she’s having difficulty walking, or like she’s going to pass out. We’ll see what they decide to do with the older lovers!
The word ‘see’ is the operative, here. She’s going blind (hence the awkward walking, stopping at the druggist for eyedrops and telling her daughter that she wants to ‘see’ her get married, etc.). Unless the PD and writers decide to add a fatal disease on top of it, her blindness will be her cross to bear.
I think she’s going to die, because the show keeps connecting itself to Love Story.
Also — in a way — this is the “cleanest” way to set the Joon / Ha Na story, since it may be a little wacky with mom+dad, son+daughter all hooking up. I’m just glad we’re not getting a creepy Joon’s dad falling in love with Ha Na who looks exactly like his “dead” Yeon Hee storyline.
I haven’t decided whether the parent story is more Autumn Tale, Winter Sonata, or Love Letter. She had considered killing off Yonsama’s character in Winter Sonata, and of course I think she flipped the coin with Soo Ae’s character in Love Letter.
Watch it.
I highly recommend Jin.
you definitely want to watch Jin and Jin2.. it’s awesome… and I am not so looking forwards to the k-version…. they have twisted some characters that I am just so not sure.. they storyline is kind of awk too…. but the original JIN is all kind of awesome… a must watch.
I LOVE SPEC. The special should be out soon and the movie too.
happy OT Beannies!
Happy OT, nonski!
Hello all!
Happy Fridays~ I’m currently watching Ja Myung Go soley for the sake of my girl-crush on Jung Ryeo Won. It actually got a lot more interesting after she made an appearance (finally!!) in episode 13. THIRTEEN.
But anywho! I’m hoping praying wishing that hulu picks up Queen In Hyun’s Man since they became partners with C&J ent. and I have some work to do today–for work and for a friend’s birthday! @_@
i watched ja myung go for the same reason and i remember skipping like the majority of the scenes because the side plots were dragging so hard. also, i know the director purposefully did this with the intention of making it unique, but it was so weird hearing modern speech used in historical times.
Yeah, I pick up on that sometimes too. There are a couple of metaphors and quotes they throw in there that shouldn’t have been thought up yet, lol. And yeah, the side characters are a doosy and their are many of them. Some of them don’t even effect the story. Most of them, actually, which is annoying.
tbqh, aside from jung ryeo won’s character, everyone else pissed me off. because aside from her, everyone was just so self-serving that it made it hard to relate to any of the characters (except the awesome circus group).
whenever anyone said oppa, i cringed on the inside. just because it felt so out of place.
Hahaha the “oppa” part was weird. And yes, i completely understand the self-serving bit. These people just did not care about anyone else it’s so scary. Also all the maniacal laughter….
Happy friday canxi! ^^
Queen in hyun’s man is out already? If it is, I haven’t seen it yet. Hope it’s good.
It’s out! You can see the first two episodes on kdrama.org since they premiered on the same day. I peaked in and then left really quickly so hurt that I couldn’t understand korean, LOL. If only google translate could pick up audio…and sentence structure…and just work…properly. Half the time I use it, I feel like I understood better in the other language.
hmm… nice but I’m going to wait until the subtitles come out. ^^ Much easier to understand what’s going on.
Yep, me too. I’m hoping that when it’s all done, it’ll be subbed! So I can marathon it to my heart’s content!
Hi canxi — hope you’re doing well this Friday.
Hi kewbie!! Thank you! I am!!
How are you??????
Good Friday yorobun! Nice to meet you!! *delurkingmode*
Anyone else watched Kim Yuna Kiss and Cry? I know almost nothing about skating, but Krystal is good! And Hyun Bin’s mom is decent. How can she do that at her age?!
I catch up all things Big Bang this week. I’m new-ish K-pop fan and just found out the awesome that is Big Bang. I watched all of their appearance this year : healing camp, running man, all inkigayos/music core/music bank performances, hyori’s you&i, strong heart YG special. Did I missed something?
Then, flashback time. Night After Night, come to play, family outing, the duets, old-skul strong heart.. I still need to catch up BIG time!
Oh, biru means blue!
Nice to meet you, kelinci biru.
There are a lot people who are into K-pop and Big Bang here. You’ll feel right at home
Blue indeed.. thanks for the warm welcome!
No biggie!
Hi kelinci biru! another VIP! yay! LOL
yes, like ricky said, there’s quite a few BigBang fans here! ^^
They are great talented artist/singers. They are the most distinguished band—as a group and individually. That’s just my opinion though.
TOTALLY agree with you!! they all are talented. i couldn’t pick any favorite out of the five.
TOP all the way. hehe ^^
GD next.
all the other three equal. ;P
Top #1, then all the others equally and for different reasons.
TOP is just HOT period. What is about him that make ur heart beat?
high cheekbones, that glint in his eye, and the little one sided grin.
Oh no. I can’t choose. TOP is the hottest, but who wouldn’t melt when Taeyang is smiling or Daesung and GD for all different reason, maybe i like Seungri the least just because he’s too young.
For me they’re all perfect. Since everyone is so different, my favorite change at different day/time. Today is Taeyang.
What i love about TOP is the swag and he looks his age. he didn’t have that baby face so common in k-pop.
Nu-uh – it’s Daesung all the way, for me!
It’s the VOICE – boy can sing, plus I’m loving his new hair;
Yay! Another BIGBANG fan.
I just bought their CD a few weeks ago. Welcome to DB OT!
I know. I’m late even to their mini album. hopefully they release full album this year. A year hiatus is like 10years k-pop time.
Hi kelinci biru!
Welcome! I’m failry new to the World of kpop. It’s scary, but so much fun, lol. Love Big Bang as well.
Hi Cruelsummer! It is scary. i have so many things to catch up, i want to download everything and watch everything. so so much fun.
Nice to meet you chona! *wink*
Such warm welcome..
Hi! I’m not super into it, but how can you not like BigBang?
Welcome!
Thank you! They are amazing. Bangapsemnida Raine!
Welcome to the Big Bang family…for the latest be sure to check bigbangupdates.com as they sub and post news. I also follow a few of their team members on Twitter since they live tweet shows with Big Bang.
Aw, thank you for the info!
Happy Friday, my Beanie chingus!
This is a “drive-by posting” as we have a crazy-busy day today. I’ll be around again later.
K2H is making me cry alot. But I LOVE LOVE LOVE it. More on that later. RTP: I want someone to catch on to that evil sister, egads! FK, still watching, although it’d be nice to see a smile on someone who isn’t crazy/evil.
News on the homefront: new car (mixed feelings about that….got used to no car payment), houseguests left yesterday (mixed feelings abt that too, as it goes), finalized school issues for next fall for the teenager (same story here, too actually…what is up with THAT!),
Be back later….
Wassup, shel? Happy Friday
Ditto on the K2H crying and on beeyatch Se-na. And how many episodes are left on both of these dramas? Can we take anymore bad/sad stuff??
Exact halfway point kewbie. 10 more to go.
Ah ok, thanks. I am wondering what other monkey wrenches will be thrown into the mix. Hopefully not anything too major or too makjang. Either way, I’m enjoying the developments on both shows!
Hi shel! We’ll keep a warm seat… What about the houseguests? Sad that they left, or not so good memories after they did? Have a nice day anyway…
No, we love them and wish they’d gotten a job here instead of so far away. But, it’s always nice to get our house back to ourselves for a bit. Our married kids will be here most of the summer for a summer internship (nice how he managed to get one where he could come visit too…although Im sure the motivation was more like “free rent” than “lets go see dad”, lol) I’m excited that they’re coming, but glad to have a break in between “tenants”.
Happy friday shel!
hehe I think everyone hate Se na. As the show goes on, yea, they better catch on to her evilness or I”m going to be pissed. Killing her off would be great@ by accident that is. LOL
Shel!!
there’s a lot of that going around – lol
Glad your life is a bit smooth now. Everything still okay on the hubby homefront?
These guys he’s working for now are bozos. But, I think they’re trying to get him to quit. He’s looking around for another job, not much out there, I’m afraid. In the meantime, even though he has 25 years experience doing what he’s doing and a rep in Silicon Valley with most of the engineers he worked with of being able to pull off the impossible, they are giving him boring little grunt jobs while saying they need to hire someone else cuz there’s too much work. Ack, I hate office politics. But, if he quits, he most likely won’t get unemployment, and even though it doesn’t even cover the mortgage, it makes the savings last longer. So, he’s just gonna suck it up until they finally sh&*^ or get off the pot, as my dad would say.
Well I’m praying for you guys.
One of the reasons I chose to go the rent-a-room route was to tighten my belt after having to drop my second job due to the demands of the first one.
Luckily, I bought my house cheap seven years ago, so I made money, even if it wasn’t the amount I hoped.
[crossing fingers]
Shel dahling! Hope you’re enjoying this awesome weather!! I’ve been up since the crack of dark making some mini caramelized onion-cheese tarts, and will be off to the Santa Cruz Mountains Winegrowers Passport Day in a few minutes — we’re gonna stay kinda local and hit Thomas Fogarty, Ridge and Picchetti for tastings today.
Even after living in NorCal for 10 years now, I’m still trying to wrap my mind around the whole concept of ‘wine tastings.’ Us Chicagoans don’t have anything remotely like this — if a ‘beer tasting’ ever came up, we just called it “Friday Night.”
Enjoy your Saturday/Sunday (where applicable). See you all later!
LOL Cherkell – I like those too! Especially Friday Nights!
I (kinda) like the actor plays Se-na. Just several months ago I sympathetic towards her as Hyang-Gi. Now I hate her with all my heart as Se-na. The same thing is she’s as stupid as ever. Ups. *didisaidthatoutloud?*
She’s pretty, and gives off a vibe like Park Shin Hye actually. I think she can play really lovable when given the chance to.
I liked her as Dong Yi’s friend Jung Im, and I’m glad she got other roles because I wanted to see more of her.
I meant this as answer for someone. Ah, the virtue of newbie! *headdesk*
Happy OT everybody!
Gonna pop on over to RTP recap!
Whaddup Noelle! Good recap for RTP today.
Hey kewbie!
It really was awesome! But why did it have to end right there
I’m avoiding them until the show finishes cause I’m writing my own in collaboration with Deeno and I want to be unbiased…cause DB is sooooooooo slick!
Hey Raine! Looking forward to ep 10 recap.
Me too! Wait…maybe I should work on that one instead of commenting about it.
CAUGHT YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HA !
It doesn’t count when it’s three days later…
A La John
OT!
Finished:
Hyena- Loved it!
Into the Sunlight- Young Jang Hyuk, likable Kim Haneul
Watching:
Sandglass
Hero2012 ( on hulu with oori maknae! I sold him on it by saying I heard it’s like iron man)
Something else with Kim min jong, yoon da hoon or so i hyun ( I find so i hyun annoying sometimes, but I’ve seen her in 3 mostly likable roles recently and kim min jong gets this look in his eye and it’s all wolf!)
Keep watching new dramas guys, it’s good for I will marathon a zillion old ones instead.
oh the other drama I finished was Can’t Lose. I liked it more than I thought I would.
I also have an inexplicable fondness for yoon sang hyun- I don’t think I’ve ever seen any of his dramas, but I like him a lot.
Did you see him in Secret Garden?
He had a powerful scene where he cried beside Joo-won who was inside Ra-im’s body.
no, I didn’t see secret garden, I only watched 1 episode of take care of the young lady, 1 episode of 1 mom 3 dads.
I find Yoon Sang-hyun overacting annoying most of the times. It was perfect for his character in Secret Garden and ok in Can’t Lose. But it made me sick in Take Care of the Young Lady.
Can’t Lose was criminally underrated. I liked the small but focused plotline. Loved the secondary characters and the actors/actresses that played them.
yes. yes. yes and yes.
Since I’ve been at this for less than a year, there are so many “old” dramas to watch. I actually prefer to watch a whole series rather than waiting each week for the lastest episodes.
there will still be many old dramas for you to watch even if you’ve been at it for 3 years. viki is pretty good about putting out subs for the newer shows. I followed salaryman and tree with deep roots live after they had aired 10 episodes which should make it less hard to bear, but I end up gobbling all of the episodes up at once anyway and panting after new ones. thanks to the viikii subbing teams though I was saved.
Yes, Viki’s subbers are very quick and do a great job. There are a lot of C-Dramas on Viki that I wish were subbed . All I can do is patiently wait.
Happy Friday Tout le Monde!
I want to spread a little love for the Cello Reine, RAINE and her Dichotomy.
If you aren’t sure whether to check out Fashion King or not, be assured it is being recapped. This is the link to the 10th ep:
http://raine0211.wordpress.com/2012/04/18/fashion-king-episode-10-recap/
You know how you read something that makes you think and giggle at the same time? Or you know how you watch something and you ask yourself, “Did I just see SHEEP?”
You know how you watch
Lee Je-hoona handsome actor and you wish you had 7000 screen caps to choose from for your screen background? (I am not making this up.)If you answered YES to any of these questions, you, too, will love Raine’s recaps.
She writes the ridiculous things I thought, only funnier. She has insights that I missed into the characters’ motivations.
She has hope that things are gonna be allright, and I trust her.
As far as the drama itself, I really like watching it. It has a great LOVE SQUARE. At this point, I don’t even think the writers know who will end up with whom.
Admittedly I enjoy it because of how much pretty is on the screen at any given time. But it also feels like “The Little Engine that Could” It’s trying so hard to be a grown-up drama. There are hints and flashes of “Que Sera Sera” or “What Happened in Bali?” mixed in with some wtf moments.
When it is good, it is very very good. Like really good.
And LJH is really really really really a beautiful sad sad person: http://tinyurl.com/6r4hr72
Hope you will come over and join us!
Thanks for the tipoff. I can only stand reading recaps for this drama, I was hoping for some real fashion drama, but it turned out focusing on the love square. Baby Faced Beauty did fashion better, and that is saying a lot.
LOL!
Hello jomo!
Fashion King is the first time ever i enjoy more the recap of a drama than the drama itself… Raine and Deeno kill me with their writing. Plus they do fan service. We can’t ask more…
It’s cuz you’re so awesome! You deserve fan service. Even if you threaten to take over my blog…
Ultimate Guide for Human Resource Management by Lord Vader:
“Threats are more effective than motivational speeches to stimulate the creative and fighting spirit of the troops”.
HAHAHAHA Mystisith. Seriously, you need to be a guest writer. Forget English as a second language. YOu speak it like your first as far as I’m concerned.
As far as Deeno is concerned, her writing always makes me fall off my chair laughing. When I recap with her, I sometimes can’t write for laughing.
http://www.maddinoasylum.com
check it and enjoy.
@Mystisity Definitely agree with Raine. Join my blog write for me. I will bribe you with many Je Hoon screencaps. Or threaten to remove all of his screencaps from my recaps. According to Vader, the second option should be more effective.
@Raine I dazzle you with my wit…
Raine and Deeno – you both are the bomb-diggity, in a non-explosive sort of way!
As for Deeno…on occasion you are witty, I’ll give you that!
Everyone, support Mystisith and tell her to start guest blogging!
Raine does make you laugh!
And when she’s obsessed over an actor, well, let’s just say it’s very apparent.
Ya….it’s true. Like PSH references in recaps he has nothing to do with?
Ugh *rolls eyes*
I can put YIA pictures too…like the strappy one
*grits teeth*
O_O
OMG I’m blushing now! You’re so sweet Jomo! *hugs*
So…I really think Lee Je-hoon is kinda hot…hehe….
Glad you are happy!
After I posted this I thought, ut-oh, what if Raine gets mad because I didn’t ask?
You should be very proud of your work. Think of how much time and energy you spend on these recaps.
I want MORE people to read your funny voice!
You’re so cute. That’s what all recappers like to hear…A little praise goes a long way.
aw *blush* seriously I’m blushing. haha. I’m about to head out to work on one right now….
Hello and happy weekend denizens of the DB OT!
It’s Friday night in my little corner of the world, and I’m waiting for today’s episode of Dream High 1 on local TV.
Ugh, power shortages. We have as long as four-hour power failures at least every other day, and a pending increase in our electricity rates. Local businesses are losing money– and I can’t watch these dramas I’m following when the brownouts occur during primetime. I just hope I can find the episodes I miss online.
No time to watch other dramas as well– although I’m still watching RTP a little at a time– haven’t gotten past Ep. 3 yet though. I want to watch K2H now as well! Sigh, le awesome.
Oh, and I’m working on an SKKS fic, but I’m not posting it yet.. maybe when I’ve finished it, it’s rather long.
I understand how you feel. I’m the total opposite of you. I working my way through K2H and behind on RP. Both really good. RP has laughs while K@H more dark humor.
Yeah
I always read the K2H recaps first too, because that drama’s darker, and save the RTP recaps for later to lift my mood. I like them both, they’re awesome in different ways.
I want to read that fanfic, Laya
Do post ur SKKS fic on here! I would love to read it! I”m reading Shukmeister’s fan fic.
Okay, on your own heads be it.
For Rtrh too.
LOL it didn’t link. http://laya-maria.livejournal.com/18027.html
Salamat!
Thanks much!!!!!! going off to read! ^^
Wow, it’s very good Laya! I like it! the continuation of SKKS! ^^ NICe! Don’t forget to keep us up to date!
Laya! I like it so far – keep it going!
yay! if not on here, do give link. ^^
Laya, sorry to hear about the power outages! EW!
I’m totally going to read that fic after my hellweek is over! I shouldn’t even be on OT but I took 2 weeks off and I’m getting twitchy for my crack again.
Good morning, all!
It’s a lovely day here in New England, plus we’re finally getting some rain over the weekend. It’s been a dry year, mostly due to the fact of practically no snow from our non-existent winter this year. We have an artisian well – we need the water!
Just read this over at Soompi, and am beyond squeelishious!
“JYJ Jaejoong’s agency stated on April 20 that “Song Ji Hyo and Jaejoong are confirmed for the upcoming film ‘The Jackal Is Coming.’” Currently, they finished their first script reading, and the first filming day will be early May.
Previously, 2AM’s Seulong had been cast for the male lead. However, due to a scheduling conflict the male lead has switched to Jaejoong. Both Song Ji Hyo and Jaejoong are from the same entertainment agency, C-JeS Entertainment.
The comedy film, “The Jackal Is Coming,” is about a goofy female assassin kidnaping a popular idol singer to kill him in a weird way she was hired to. However, the police get involved in order to save the idol singer and comic events continue to happen. The flim is scheduled to premiere in October.”
As a devoted fangirlish follower of Jaejoong, and a total admirer of the fabulous Ace Ji-hyo, I can’t wait for this film!
Hope y’all had a good week!
There you are!
Have a good week to you too, Cynthia
Hi Cynthia! Happy OT!
yay for Jaejoong! ^^ Won’t he be in a film and a drama? The drama suppose to be out in another month and the film in Nov? wowow, he’s going to be a busy boy this summer! ^^
hmm,,what a weird premise. what’s this deal with the female assasin..?
btw, thanks for the news
Oooh, methinks I’m gonna like this.
I like them both too.
Hi Cynthia,
…
hope u had a great week
Ace Ji-Hyo… goofy female assassin
…i can TOTALLY imagine her thataway
…n Jaejoong’s fangirl ?? …hehehe…that guy has something …. even ppl who hate kpop say…hey he’s the centre guy rite…hahah…
I am waiting for the movie….hope the acting is good
…(watchin totally not dependent on acting
…i can watch Jaejoong sleep for a looong time
*dreams* ) …
Chinsia! (Italian pronunciation)
How are you love? You’re so squeetastic. I love it!
Wanted to add: I love the banners here on DB – but I have to say, could there be a hotter banner than the one with Yoochun in that black wife-beater tee with his hair all messy?!
I think not.
sadly, a certain young boy with shaggy hair, aviators, and Doc Martins.
or My Beloved.
But I’m all about the Yoochun love these days, Yi Gak is adorable.
I just might have to buy a second pair of handcuffs……
[snerk]
I like how you think!
It’s now another 24 hours later and here I am, still adding stuff. **sigh** My love for all things Korean is never-ending, apparently.
But, here’s the reason for my additional post: Over at KShowNow.net they finally have the subbed Strong Heart with Lee Dong Wook’s premiere, and the guest lineup is fabulous! Jung Yong Hwa (CN Blue), Hyorin (Sistar), Lee Jin Wook,(unbelievably HOT!) Kim Ji Suk, Jang Na Ra, Kim Shin Young, Jung So Min (her first variety appearance and she’s adorable!), Song Eun Lee, Shin So Yeon & Boom (who is totally obnoxious and they need to dump him asap.)
I don’t know which team is doing the subbing for SH, but it’s BY FAR the best subbing I’ve ever seen for this show.
Wookie is doing a great job bringing the funny and his co-host provides a nice balance. It’s worth a watch!
Happy Friday EveryBody,, yeaah!!!
Today is My Birthday, hohoho..
I can’t believe I just promoted myself.
I need to graduate and get a better job. Must.Have.
Wish this year could be a MUCH BETTER year for me. Amen.
So, I’ve watched Equator Man up to episode 4 on KBSW and I can’t wait to see Lee Jun-hyuk and Uhm Tae-woong as rival on screen.
For Monday-Tuesday drama I can’t bring myself to watch Love Rain. Not interesting at all.
I much prefer watching Smash and Suits. They’re good. I mean if you like musical or workplace drama. Smash more like the adult of Glee, because it’s set on behind-the-scene production of Broadway, many singing and dancing involves, not to mention rivalry and love affair, and most important their award winning casts like Angelica Huston and Debra Messing.
As for Suits, it’s like The Good Wife, sets in a law firm, with an intern who happens to have photographic memory but a college drop-out. I always love workplace series, my classic fav is Ally McBeal.
I now watch Lord of the Flies on MGM channel, what a coincidence, I think javabeans mention this on one of her posts this week.
Happy Birthday!
Actually Love Rain rain turns out much better after episode 4, if you can last till then. Or just skip and start at 5.
Happy Birthday, momogi!
Thank You guys,,!
@topper: okay i’ll check it out when episode 5 airs on KBSW.
btw, is Lord of the Flies kids movie or survivor movie?? it looks creepy..
Survivor and hard reality of human instincts.
Happy bday momoji! ^^
EM is too melo for me. I’m sure it’s good. Happy watching!
Happy birthday, momogi! I hope this will be your best year yet!
The original Lord of the Flies is a great film. I’d stay away from the remake.
And by great film, you mean the sort of film that continues to terrify you way after you watch it, YES!
My sensitive 12 year old asked if he would read it, I wondered if he could handle it.
I will give you your Lord of the Flies and raise you one.
The Other. For some reason both of these creepfests are connected in my memory.
THE OTHER – I read the book in like…8th grade or something. The author is Thomas Tryon. He also wrote a book called Harvest Home that was really creepy, and I think I remember a book called Crowned Heads that wasn’t creepy (or interesting) at all.
anyway…I have NEVER forgotten that book. I enjoyed the movie when I watched it 20 years later, but the book was a whole ‘nother level of creepiness. I vividly remember the sheer joy I felt when the twist was revealed.
So I’m at work, slammed. Was gulping down a sandwich, and got this far. I have lots to comment on and my own update to give, but it will be tonight.
Miss you, all you wondrous beans.
Sounds like me. It was so long ago, but I am still swallowing my bile at the memory!
I can never forget the book Harvest Home. I read it years ago as a teenager and it still gives me nightmares, so I stayed away from the movie. Poor Jack the peddler (especially in that nightmarish encounter the protagonist had with him) and poor Worthy Pettinger. I wanted to shake Kate and her mom, too.
Cripes – I haven’t thought about Tryon in years. Do you remember when he was an actor? Wasn’t he in some Disney films and then when he turned to writing it was so against type that people were astonished.
He was one good-looking guy… and the books were beyond creepy.
I didn’t know he was an actor until after I had read the books, Cynthia – back in those days I couldn’t run to Google every time I was curious about someone new. How did we ever survive that?
I’m laughing now because Harvest Home is situated up around your way, I always thought. Along that bit of shoreline, I mean…there’s not actually a Harvest Home, CT.
But I used to live where they filmed part of the original Stepford Wives – Sharon! We lived next door to a house that Cotton Mather’s brother built…really big, really old, really stern. Very Cotton Mathery.
I’m almost confused The Other with Nicole Kidman’s The Others. The Others also categorized as a movie that gives you chill.
Joanne@
True – I’m pretty sure he was a Ct. native (TT). I seem to recall him in a big religious movie – ‘The Cardinal’ maybe?
Our big claim to fame was Troy Donahue filming ‘Parrish’ – all the resort scenes used the Terra Mar at Saybrook Point. I met him while he was doing a play with Suzanne Pleshette at the Ivoryton Theater. He was cute – all that blonde California surferboy hair, but omg, the dirtiest feet I’ve ever seen.
Happy birthday momogi!
I also love workplace dramas! I called them job dramas, but now i know the proper word.
Happy Birthday!!
happy birthday to you! Ah yeah, is suits very good? I remember being interested in it slightly, but at the time I was in that place where you realize that there’s nothing new and it’s all the same and there’s no point.
For my taste yes, not very, but pretty good. And like I said if you like workplace drama, you’re gonna like this one too.
I love the interaction between Mike Ross and Harvey Specter, Harvey and his secretary, and Mike and Rachel interaction. They all have great chemistry.
Besides the actor who plays Mike Ross is cute. HAHA
aww,, thank you guys all.. ,<3
@John: I think I watch the 1990 film.
The original is quite good and a bit spooky. It’s in black and white. Very well done.
Not for children, unless of course they’re savages.
Happy birthday! ^_^
Feliz Cumpleaños momogi!!!
I hope all your wishes come true.
Lord of the Flies…it’s been more than 20 years since I read the book. and just by saying that I feel old :S
Well… Enjoy your day!!!
Happy Birthday!
Wishing that this will be your BEST YEAR YET!
Happy Birthday!
Happy birthday momogi
…
생일 축하!!!!!
Imagine me singing that like the tracksuit trio…
Happy Birthday! Hope it’s great, momogi!
Happy Birthday!
Hi All!
Usually I will type a long detailed description of my week in k-entertainment. But I can’t…I seriously can’t today. All I can say for now is this:
I need an intervention.
If I say anything more, I’m gonna start spazzing like some crazy, fan-girl Noona. I have nothing if not my pride. Kpop is the devil
Gang Seuk (TK2) will nod his head in agreement while watching a Girl’s Generation video. The devils.
Hi cruelsummer!
hehehe can never get enough of kpop or news about it.
^^ but… don’t forget to come up for air once in a while. LOL Don’t want you to get sick.
It’s really bad. I even dusted off my Tumblr account to further my need for all things kpop.
And as much as I love oggling cute guys, cooing at their lovely voices and giggling at their TV antics, more than anything I just want to feed them. Being an older fan, some weird maternal instinct has started to kick in, lol. I don’t even prepare proper meals for my own kid, but I want to cook ten course meals and do laundry and make sure they never run out of vitamins, lol. It’s bad…so very bad.
But it’s the malnourished idol girls that needs feeding Cruelsummer. LOL
You know they do! Ramyun and fried chicken, for sure.
Nah – the girls can shift for themselves. I’m with CS – let’s get those boys fed! Too many of them look malnourished.
Girl, I know what you mean. I have a tumblr, too, because if I don’t let my k-entertainment stuff out somewhere my head will explode. I don’t have the maternal instinct thing going yet. Right now I just want to have dinner with my “biases” and take pictures and put them up on twitter. haha…
Were you able to find my playlist for some potentially new music, Cruel?
I tried, JoAnne, but when I put your information in the YouTube search engine nothing came up
I was totally bummed and spent like fifteen minutes trying to decide on whether or not to come back into OT and whine about my failure, lol. I’m still fiending (I just discovered that this word is not in the dictionary. I blame Jodeci) for more. Help a girl out
I think this will work, Cynthia:
http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL14BDDAF9508FE1DA&feature=mh_lolz
oops I meant CruelSummer!
Still private
Youtube is trolling me or it’s a sign that I need to get off the computer and do something about my laundry situation.
This is ridiculous. Can anyone advise?
Hmm is it just me ? I watched All about Eve and I fell in love with Jang Dung Gun( sorry If I misspelled the name) OMG! His sexy!!! OMG! He is oozing with confidence that makes him really irresistible!!!
Hi, everybody! Happy OT Friday!
I’m watching about a dozen dramas right now, old and new, and I’m finally catching up on Equator Man – just finished ep. 6 this morning. It took me awhile to warm up to it, but I’m onboard now. Still don’t really *love* any of the characters, but they fascinate me and I do love the story, which I knew from the start would be the thing to draw me in. Nothing makes me happier than a good revenge drama, and EM is shaping up well, so I’m hopeful.
Haven’t watched this week’s eps of RP and K2H yet, and I still haven’t watched ep 4 of OCN’s Hero, but I can’t wait. K2H is probably my favorite of the current dramas I’m watching. I just love the fast pace – something is always happening – and the characters are so rich. I liked him before, but Earnest Bot stole my heart during that scene with Jae-shin when he asked why people laugh at soldiers for loving and guarding their country so single-mindedly. That just killed me.
Can’t wait till Queen In-hyun’s Man is subbed – it’s the time-travel drama that I’ve been looking forward to with the most excitement. tvN, don’t let me down!
Have to go now, but I’ll stop in again tonight to read more comments. Until then, I hope everyone has a great day!
Hello!
So I took the GREs a couple years ago (which is now apparently the old version of the exam. ?). I took it after just using a couple of test prep books and did pretty well. But depending on how competitive your program is, any extra help towards a beter score can’t hurt.
And talk about a crazy tv schedule last night! In addition to k2h and 2 eps of rooftop prince, i also watched community, parks and rec, and 30 rock! And abed and annie are one of my favorite duos so last nights ep was pretty cute. My favorite moment though was troy crying because he didnt get inception.
Did you see the ‘Troy and Abed in the Morning!’ skit at the end? I loved Troy’s technical difficulties sign
Guh, GREs. I suck at standardized testing. It totally doesn’t reflect my abilities. I’m a straight A student and do well in everything…but GREs! RAWR.
I feel your GRE pain….PAIN!
So just so it doesn’t seem like that post came out of nowhere, I was trying to respond to Alvina above (#13). But my phone doesn’t like to… you know… function, so it just posted my comment where ever it felt like it would seem least sensible. Technology FTW!
And Troy and Abed in the Morning is DAEBAK!
Hi all,
was traveling and visiting family last weeks. Legoland as well and was nicely surprised that even I enjoyed that amusement park and stayed there till closing hours.
Had to limit my K-drama obsession and currently watching just K2H. The good still outweighs the bad. Normally I prefer something lighter to relax… but this time I just watch this and read RTP. I like the hidden humour and hints about NK a SK differences and prejudices. And Ha Ji Won and Seung Gi together… do I need to add anything else???
Anyway, have a nice Friday… and the other days as well!!
PS No dreams about our famous Duo anymore. Guess they need to release new podcast for that
Happy Friday from a late riser, lol! What is it about 2012? Last year I had barely a single drama at a time, and now I’m watching four or five simultaneously, with more to come. Do kdrama producers do this on purpose? Like save up all the good dramas and unleash them in a single year.
They have no mercy.
It was kinda like that in 2010 too
My favorite band Nell has finally released their 5th album and the MV for The Day Before is super hot. Who ever thought of putting Lee Min-ki and Song Jae-rim (aka Woon) together in a music video is a genius. I think I’ve watched that video a hundred times and I spazz about it to JB and GF this week because this kind of things had to be shared and OT friday is still a long way off. The distinctive voice of Kim Jong-wan showcases the melancholy vibe of the song. Nobody does angst set to music like Nell and I’m happy that they are back.
I bought that album shortly after it came out. It’s kickass, and the video for The Day Before is so beautifully shot. I wish Lee Min Ki didn’t have to die in the vid, though.
Any video with Lee Min-ki in it has me at anyeong, but a video that makes a shout out to John Berger and makes me re-read his books to fathom its deeper meaning is just full of win.
Nell was new to me with this new album and I have to say I am very impressed and spend a lot of time listening. And oh, that video does get me teary-eyed. Every single time. I showed it to my daughter (NOT a fan of KPop, but she is occasionally indulgent of her mother) and even she said the sound was beautiful and ‘holy crap, I didn’t expect that’ when I explained what it was she had just watched.
I love their song Goodnight, its the first Nell song that I was introduced to and no 1 on my ipod. It’s only now that I understood the meaning of their mv, its an ironic take on the adoration received by dancing idols as opposed to alternative music. I don’t have anything against idol groups I sometimes watch them but they are not included in my playlist. Auto-tune hurts my ears, I need the voice, instruments, beautiful lyrics (even if I don’t understand) and great melody.
I am forever greatful to Dramabeans for introducing me to some of the great Korean alternative music.
happy Friday!!! I watched standby raw today… OMG.. It was funny…
Hi Everybody!
There is quite a lot to watch currently, but unfortunately the subbing process requires time, so I thought I could catch a glimpse of some older stuff. As I am following Feast of the Gods (hate that title, though) I chose some Sung Yuri stuff. I opted for Swallow The Sun and Hong Gil Dong.
Well, I have to add StS to my favourite favourites’ list. I like characters, I enjoy the story, I am not totally put off by ridiculous stuff and idiocy.(Yeah, a drama without a pretty-but-stupid-and-annoying girlie you want to teach some reason by means of crude methods, there were no bitchy witches either). AND the heroine drives a cool car
Of course, there are some actions I find less probable or necessary, but I didn’t shake my head a lot about it. My hero in this drama is Jackson – he’s ugly but level-headed. Knows what he’s got to do. Level-headedness is hot. Hotter than abs. They don’t go together very often, do they?
As for Hong Gil Dong, I tend to watch it in the late evening (very early morning that is) and all I seem to be able to process is half episode. I have watched two episodes, and still don’t know what to say. I like Hong sisters’ dramas, but I am not enthusiastic about sageuk settings. So I guess I will check out some more episodes
Have a lovely weekend, Everybody!
Swallow the Sun! let’s hear it for Ji Sung and Jackson, baby!
I loved Hong Gil Dong, but I”m a pretty rabid Kang Ji Hwan fan. It does take a couple of episodes to get into it, though.
Haven’t seen Swallow the Sun yet, but I love Ji Sung, too, so it’s on my evergrowing list of older dramas to watch.
He is ten kinds of awesome in it
All he has to do is stand around and smile to be 10 kinds of awesome, lol. :0)
Ji Sung, Kang Ji Hwan, Lee Min Ho, Gong Yoo……there’s a pattern….IT’S THE DIMPLES….can’t resist dimples…my RL honey has dimples, too.
Abs don’t hurt either, although it’s been a couple of years since I’ve seen hubby’s abs, lol. I feed him too good….
I really like Ji Sung (cute hottie type), but in Swallow the Sun Jackson is really better. Dimples is not everything (although quite a lot, as a matter of fact;p)
Happy Friday!
Has anyone found subs for Queen In-hyun’s Man? Share plz.
Happy Friday all.
I hope everyone is doing well.
Dramawise, i’m looking forward to watching this week’s episodes of K2H and the next episode of God of War.
Right now i’m in the mood for a family drama. I’ve watched Smile, you, Family Honor, It’s okay Daddy’s Girl, and Wish Upon a Star and Fermentation Family. I tried to watch Kimchi Radish Cubes but couldn’t finish that sucker and right now Assorted Gems is a hard watch as well. I keep fast forwarding through the episodes. I don’t know if I have ADD or if its the show.
I saw the Heaven’s Garden was on viki and it sounded right up my alley but there is only one episode subbed and it looks like it’s gonna take a while to get done. I have no clue what to watch now. Maybe i’ll just stick with the above two, but it’s so sad to me, not having at least three or four dramas on my roster. What am I going to do with my life? lol.
I’m also looking forward to this weeks God of War. This sounds kind of weird but, “Bring on the Mongols!”
Since I’m not really interested in any type of romance line between Kim Jun and Song-yi, let’s hear it for Action and Bromance!
Me either. I want him to avoid her like a plague. I feel so bad for the dude she has to marry.
Action and bromance for the win!
Oh thank God! I thought it was only me! Does it make me a bad person to be rooting for the Mongol invasion? Anything to get this guy out of town NOW!
Right!
No, you’re not crazy. I needed that invasion to happen yesterday. The Goryeo government has the patience of saints, because the Mogols have been acting wild and overtly disrespectful the entire time. They’re all like “come. fight. me.”
You want a family drama recommendation? Hands down, it’s “My Too Perfect Sons” (aka “The Sons of Sol Pharmacy House”). It is a bit long at 54 episodes, but each one of them was full of EPIC WIN! One of the few dramas where I made sure my butt was home on Saturday and Sunday nights to watch it ‘live’ on KBS World. Last time I looked, MySoju and DramaCrazy had it up for viewing, but am unsure if there are any DL sites housing it at present. Ah, these are the times where AM-Addiction is sadly missed… ::sob::
Sons of Sol Pharmacy House is win!
And I’m not sure whether Likeable or Not is considered family drama but I still missed all time my favorite OTP on it.
Thanks for the suggestion, i will look it up.
*curtseys to your awesomeness*
Heaven’s garden seems awesome. I really like the lead actress after seeing her in Neighbor Enemies. The first 50 or so episodes of I love you don’t cry are really great family episodes ( the drama will give you brain rot) I also like a lot of Reversal of Fate/I’ll give you everything. I’d say until episode 30 or so. Last night I didn’t turn on my computer at all, my cat spent a long time sniffing me too. The writer of Neighbor Enemies also did City of Glass ( had a great family beginning) and a new drama called Fathers war.
oh if you haven’t seen life special investigation team you have to!
Happy Weekend, all!
I’m trying not to disappear into the internet ether again this week, but it’s been *such* a week. I found out earlier this week that I’m trading places w/someone out at a job site, so she and I began training this week while my office-mates gave me O.o stares. Plus there were 2 big presentations, my supervisor was out when I got the assignments so I couldn’t turn to her (she is a HUGE help with these things), and our big monthly meeting is coming up which means pulling teeth to get the var pieces of info I need, b/c everyone is insanely busy. Seriously. I realized that yesterday was the first time I’d seen one of my bosses in 2 weeks. Highly unusual.
In other news, I’m going to my lil cousin’s birthday party tonight. He’s such an adorable kid! And now he’s a big brother with his lil sis born just a month ago. It should be lots of fun
No dramas this week. Still “stuck” on ep 2 of History of the Salary Man. Argh.
hi cmr! /huggles/ What a week you’ve had! I hope things get better
*huggles* Hey Laya! Thanks for the well wishes.
I hope it’s better as well.
Hey cmr! Happy Weekend! Glad that your week turned out relatively well – mine was a series of rollercoaster turns. Goodluck with the work swap. And the drama viewing.
It seems more and more kdrama addicts are getting rehabilitated involuntarily.
Kiddie party!
Cute little ones running around, friends and loved ones, good food… FUN!
Which reminds me of a friend who turned 30 last year and celebrated it with a Sesame St. kiddie-themed party at McDonald’s. Everyone was cooperative and wore Sesame St. shirts and participated in the games. Even the mascots were a big hit, especially during photo time. It was so much fun.
Man, I should have thought about that for my birthday two weeks ago. Instead we had mexican food and karaoke’d, sometimes in harmony.
Did I wish you happy, Shuk? I’ve been so crazy I can’t remember.
Happy Belated Birthday! (if I didn’t)
Thanks CMP! Yeah, it flew by like a troop of angry hornets heading for the crazy woman with the wasp spray — wait — that was me. LOL.
I didn’t celebrate it until the weekend, when my Alan-Rickman-loving friend gave me a set of drumstick / chopsticks, a picture of me with Rickman taken in January personally autographed by him, and a Playbill signed by the entire cast.
I also received a bottle of Albanian cognac from my Albanian friend, and some Williamsburg Winery Two-Shilling Red to add to my wine rack. So it was good all the way around.
Haha! Shuk, the great thing is there’s always a next year. Belated Happy Birthday! May you have many, many, many years of love and fun!
Thanks IZzie! – Yep, one more year closer to the half-century mark. At least I can start demanding a senior citizen discount!
Izzie Smile! Hihi! The party was indeed fun…the friends and family were great, laughter and memories plentiful, and there was in fact good food!
Uh for this most recent birthday of mine, which is approaching 30, I went to the circus. I think your friend’s Sesame St. themed party wins, though
It sounds like a great time. Maybe that’s what I’ll do for 30… *gets to pondering*
Glad to hear you had a blast.
Haha! For your 30th… why not? What a way to leave the 20′s behind right?
Oh, and Belated Happy Birthday too! May you also have many, many, many years of love and fun!
wow! You are busy. I shirk as much as I can, I’m a pro-shirker though and I only have a slight problem with being considered incompetent at work. I don’t remember caring too much about being an older sibling after the first 3 months possibly because my mother is a pro-shirker too.
I think salaryman is the right drama for you right this instant. I believe you can finish it! Don’t forget there are really funny skits at the end of each episode.
I am laughing so HARD at this. Bunny is cute!
There are skits? I’ll have to re-watch the end of ep 1.
And I am a great procrastinator…of my own work. Exhibit A, my unsubmitted-to-an-agent novel. But with work-work? Nuh uh. No way. I have my slacker moments, but overall I’m pretty committed. Which is why this…well this whole month I guess, has been so hard. The change of scenery might do me good
We’ll see.
… this is coming after maybe 6 months of just lurking…
Happy Friday OT’ers!
Well, welcome! It’s nicer out here in the sunshine, Cille. Those shadows get COLD.
cille – Welcome to the Weekend KDrama party!
To enjoy KDramas,
Wear your pyjammas,
Sip some Bahama Mamas,
Make liberal use of commas,
And to avoid any traumas,
Don’t kiss any llamas!
Welcome to the OT, cille! as I join my voice to the chorus of welcomes
Anyone watching ‘The strongest Kpop survival’?
Like how the heroine is strong and can defend herself.
Gee. Couldn’t really believe the schedules for the trainees- so packed. A lot of hard work/sacrifices/time etc. They must have passion and determination to be able to go through all these…
ME! I’m watching it too! LOL it kinda like you’re beautiful–same concept but different storyline. It’s actually not bad at all. ^^
I’m watching it…surprised the reveal came so early really
I marathoned all subbed episodes last week. Now I am going to live stream the rest of it because I cannot wait for the subs. I am not a k-pop fan but somehow I really like that show. And I must say that Ricky’s abs (loved the shower scene) much better than Micky’s non-existent one (as seen in the elevator scene in RP).
Which Ricky are we talking about?
Yours of course, who else?
*snort*
Heh. Just as I thought. *smug*
@ricky trh: you wish… I was talking about Park Yoochun (Ricky)…
,,, meant Park Yoo Hwan … not Yoochun … arg… butter fingers.
HAHAHA
Hmm, Ricky / Rickie showing abs…
Darn it!
And I thought you didn’t see that, Shuk.
You want smug? I’ll give you abs to be smug about, lol.
Still got the hot tub / cave scene waiting in the wings, and haven’t done a shirtless scene yet…
[evil grin]

Actually, I wanted to ask your help for an insulting term for stupid / weak / useless girl. The best I could come up on my own is gadis bodoh, and I wanted something a little harsher. Any ideas?
‘Bodoh’ is pretty harsh. We never use it, even while joking around. When paired with ‘gadis’, though, it loses its sting because ‘gadis’ carries the meaning of someone demure. It implies innocence, not stupidity. The best English word for ‘gadis’ is maiden.
If you want more impact, then use ‘perempuan’ which means female. Calling a girl ‘perempuan bodoh’ would earn you a slap. It’s downright rude.
It’s been a few years since I studied Malay Language academically. My Malay is a bit rusty nowadays but I’m happy to help.
Terima kasih, si manis!
I wanted an evil character to have an ugly mouth, but I also didn’t want to alienate any readers. Something a little stronger than ‘dumba$$’ but not as strong as a slang term for prostitute. More like stupid or useless woman.
Luckily, this character will be anihilated relatively quickly, and, for the record, my fan-fic is the one place Se Na is *not* going to wriggle/weasel into. lol.
LOL
Si manis?
Nice.
HAHAHAHA
Finished watching Shut Up Flower Boy Band and Sung Joon is HOT. OMG, I even tried to watch Lie To Me b/c he was in it, but I couldn’t get through it.
I love his voice and I hope he’s in more dramas soon!
I still have to watch the LAST episode. I don’t know whats keeping me back. I think I dont want it to end….
I had to psych myself up for it, but it was so sweet and fulfilling.
And Sung Joon was so cute!
Same! except I stopped watching at 13 because I couldn’t bare to see them fall apart.
If you liked Sung Joon you must definitely watch White Christmas! It’s a pretty interesting drama and it only has 8 episodes. His character there was my favorite
Me too! Kind of a young Korean Mr. Spock.
Ha! Okay, now I have to watch this. : )
Yeah I started watching it the other day. I like it so far.
Watch White Christmas, if you can find it. I had to watch it on Youtube.
oh, there you go! You already are. Such a good one!
Happy Friday all!
Does anyone know where I can buy History of the Salaryman or any other recently-ended dramas? I’ve tried yesasia and kimook, but so far nothing. The soundtrack is on yesasia, but that’s about it. JB & GF have whetted my appetite for Salaryman, with their hilarious recaps and screen captions.
In fact, how about links to sites where we can buy all the dramas that are reviewed? That would make things easier for all of us avid K-drama viewers.
I’m ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I feel so weird, like I’ve returned home after years of wandering…through tax land.
The small business I work for has been SWAMPED with catching up. *Sob* I’ve been keeping up with work, practicing and my blog…it’s been such a confined life, but after sunday I am FREEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’ve been bad about talking to anyone and just know I thought about you guys!
Shel- I…am ashamed. I wrote you some lyrics and chords but haven’t had time to record! :’( How are you healing?
JoAnne unni- <3<3<3<3 I miss our emailing!
Ricky – *scratches you under the chin*
On a cool personal note, I've decided to move to Colorado, my band was super understanding (although super disappointed) and I already have 3 potential jobs lined up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so stoked.
Fashion King – what a hot mess. It's only likeable cause I'm recapping it and I get to feel bipolar as I bounce back and forth with my opinions and random guesses as to what exactly is going on…does ANYONE have a clue?
Rooftop Prince – I am so in love. I fell for the slapstick, the Tracksuit Trio, adorable Park Ha (who maddino wants to kill!!!! NO!!!!!!) , and surprisingly, our evil leads. I really love how well they're made. People were whining about Se-na appearances, but she is was AWESOME badguy. Yu-mi is ROCKING it. Everytime she smirks I get willies. And then dont get me STARTED on Yoochun. Where was he all my life? Comedy is the spice of his life! OMG OMG OMG OMG. Where did he come from? Sadly, I've noted how much thinner he's gotten, which makes me admire him even more. Watching episode 10 before work right now!
K2h – I'm a bit behind, but so far super enjoyable and great chemistry. (I marathoned it on my day off)
How is everyone?
Hi Raine! good to have u back@ happy friday! ^^
All the new dramas have so many pretties. fashion king is one of them. the love line between the four is just a mess–even i can’t even tell who’s going to date whom or who really like who. other then that, I would like to see a fashion show… later on the road. hehe
@cv – The current fashion in it is JUST TERRIBLE. I just want to still Lee Gak’s jackets from Rooftop Prince and put it on Young-gul. Those are sexay jackets. And the pretties are so pretty. YAI, LJH, the women are stunning. Yu-ri can wear a paper bag and look like…a goddess. It’s really not fair.
Hello Raine! Glad to see you survived!
Poor Ricky! LOL… I know Chi-san is the cute personified, but i think our Royal Highness is quite “attached” to his crown jewels…
Hahaha, we had a little Twitter conversation about the chin scratch…hehe. I’m actually finishing up the episode now. Comment ca va mon amie?
Hihi… Mother hen is completely neutralized by the (evil) charming kiddo. Ep 10 of RP is nice, and now i want to see if Park-ah and Lee-gak will stay in friend territory or something else…
As for me, in real life, i’m seriously considering some changes for my professional life: I love writing, A LOT. I somehow stopped for years and forgot how much i like it. I need to find a way to solve the equation: Words (on paper or on the net) = pleasure + income. With the Hallyu craze here, i should be able to find something i could be part of. Just need to move my lazy ass, when the first step is done it generally goes smoothly for me.
I want to change my career too. I always suffered from this paranoid delusion that I was a poor writer. I hated sharing what I wrote. I’d avoid writing at all costs. Ever since I started recapping, I’ve found out how much fun writing can be.
Suddenly other types of writing seems interesting too. Technical documentation. I actually want to write it. My whole world has been turned upside down.
Now I just need to learn how to punctuate properly.
Raine….it’s awesome to have you back. Taxland. Ugh. I’m glad you made it out of there alive. I hired someone last year for the first time and it was totally worth what we paid him, so I sent him all the stuff this year again, even though it’s not nearly as complicated as it was the year before.
I’m awaiting the song with great anticipation! I adore cello music, so I”m excited.
Can I just kill her once? Pretty please?
HAHAHAHAHA
Love me some chin-scratching!
Yea! Another idea! Excellent!
Shuk

Did you kidnap Shuk, Rescue Ranger?
lol – nah it was me. I was accessing the internet from the hospital after dropping a patient off.
By night, a harmless public servant working long hours at the police department.
By day, a madcap crazy woman, driving 3 tonnes of snarling strobe-lit truck down the highways of Virginia Beach in search of victims…
You sound like a serial killer :p
Good morning you guys! I thought I was the only one up, but I guess the mornings half over on the other coast and who knows what time it is where Ricky is. :0)
Ricky – I do love a good box of Cheerios – oh, I thought you said “cereal” killer – lol.
Shel – I’m on call on the ambulance 1800 to 0600 EST when I’m scheduled, so I’m usually awake and/or handling a call.
Happy Friday! Is anyone here watching Love Rain? It’s like Hwang Tae Kyung is back in all his delicious self inflation! Plus I love it that the girl has spunk! I wish it were recapped here, but anywho….happy happy friday!
Okay, time to music nerd. I forgot about this.
King2hearts – Since it was written by the Hongs who did Beethoven Virus, I think it’s only appropriate that their musical references are so wicked (especilly in terms of the villain, forget his name). The second they started playing loads of Wagner, I knew the Hitler references would be coming. Does anyone who knows a few things about Wagner think this music choice is interesting? the Lohengrin wedding march, obviously the flight of the valkyries. And not only that, other works from the Ring cycle which is totally bizarre because it’s usually the 2nd opera that gets highlighted.
Then they take Mozart’s Requiem (also appropriate) and give the melody to a boy soprano and a boy choir. How effective. I LOVE an effective OST.
Hi Raine, thanks for such an educated breakdown. Plus the use of Ave Maria to fit into Jae Ha’s romantic scheme.
The OST is effective, and a little bizarre at times. The Black Keys on Kdrama was not what I expected.
Oh ya, the Ave Maria. I forgot about it cause that’s super super super super standard knowledge in my field. But I liked the music education bit. It made me happy. Plus they have wicked cello solos ALL over the place in the OST. They seriously need to just hire me as the MBC studio cellist. I’d up and move to Korea…
Interesting. You have my admiration for noticing those things. Although my father is an opera freak (and he does have Wagner and I did watch part of it with him), I can’t remember anything. I mean ANYTHING. I just hear something and think “that sounds familiar”… even my husband makes jokes how I can’t guess (yes that is the right word, guess) whether the song is by U2, REM or Nirvana…
Yes, I’m the type of person who can live entire life with one book, one DVD… and one CD… I can read some of my favourite detective stories couple of times and only half way I have this vague feeling about the culprit… Luckily for me, at least for some things there is this external memory now called Internet
Oh, I bought a cool Bento lunch box at the thrift store yesterday.
I am in real need for a new lunch box so this was providence. It’s by Tiger, made in Japan, is black, a tall rectangular shape with a black strap, a top with a two hinged snaps, very utilitarian.
Has three containers, as well a set of chopsticks in it’s own container with a slot for them as well.
I looked online, there’s a whole Bento box “sub-culture”.
Looking forward to learning more.
Good job, John, I never found a bento box in any thrift store I frequent. I usually walk away with green glass, though.
oh my mom has depression glass! Green, but also some yellow, and a couple pink.
I look for vases that are opaque green, although I recently found a calla-lilly-esque fluted vase in clear green and snatched it up for five dollars.
The landlord is getting some color shock: my green vases mixed with purple accents and some asian art now decorates the area above his kitchen cabinets.
It kind of tones down all his Indianapolis Colts paraphenalia (including a toaster, of all things). However, just to make him feel better, I found some Colts fabric and I’m going to reupholster his barstools.
Shuk~
Glass can be fun to collect. We have picked up an assortment of Scandinavian, Italian and American Mid Century over the years by attending auctions and scouring thrift stores.
We’ve didn’t set out to, yet have managed to aquire a collection of bird figurines and Madonnas/Quan Yin figurines as well.
And now you’ll have to start looking for flagons for your mead, hee hee. If I find one, I’ll hold it for ransom against your MCMod glass – mwha ha ha.
I’m a big fan of Mid-century Modern / Scandinavian design. Most of my prized furniture is purchased at estate sales and charity auctions for a relatively low price. The clean lines and the rich wood tones make me happy. I still haven’t found the perfect headboard, but I’m content until it shows up.
Another Mid-Century Modern(e) follower! In 1982, I picked up two Heywood-Wakefield coffee tables for $5 each at a garage sale… and it was all downhill from there. Love the clean lines that style brings to the shabbyness that is the rest of my furniture.
And don’t get me started on all my Franciscan Starburst dishes and the 129 Swanky Swig glasses currently in my collection. Damn you, Goodwill Stores!!!
I don’t know manufacturers besides a particular chair or lamp, but I do know what I like!
I also recently got a ’70′s modular entertainment center – 6 separate pieces you can rearrange however you want to stack them. Walnut finish with door knocker pulls. Impulse buy but was only $ 25. It’s in the office.
I have two Heywood-Wakefield bedroom dressers in blonde that were given to me by my step-dad – his mother had purchased them in the 30s. They’re beautiful!
Hey everyone! Finally, bed / dresser / flatscreen are in their proper place – I’m home! lol
—
Watched up to Ep 10 of RP.
Watched first 5 epis of Ending Planner and liking it so far.
Started watching the first episode of Saigo Kara Nibanme no Koi. Nice having most of the characters over 35.
Four more chapters of the fan-fic.
Now I’m gonna go through the current thread! Sorry I missed everyone this morning / evening / beginning!
Here’s to many memories at your new home!
We should have a virtual housewarming party. We need bourbon serving the drinks though…haven’t seen her in awhile.
May your new place house many happy memories. :0)
Thanks, guys!
It’ll be nice to have consistent internet service again, as well as a familiar place to sleep. These months of homelessness were interesting, but I am ready to do some nesting! I just hope my landlord is too, lol.
He’s already keeping the kitchen much cleaner. Men can learn new things! lol
Happy Friday, everyone!
On k-drama news, recently finished:
History of the Salaryman
Currently watching:
Dal Ja’s Spring
The Return of Iljimae
I want to watch 12 Men in a Year next, but I haven’t seen softsubs anywhere yet ):
Dal Ja’s spring is one of my all time favorites. Lee Min Ki is to-die-for-adorable in that and I liked the lead, too (can’t remember her name). I had a couple of issues with the way the story went towards the end. This whole “leaving it up to fate” thing that is popular in k-dramas is nuts in my book, lol. But, overall, it’s up there with my faves.
Loved Iljimae, too.
I’m with you on the “fate” thing. Oh, Dal Ja… and OH, TAE BONG! But I also loved Dal Ja’s friends and co-workers, Seon Joo and the pregnant one… they had a couple of strong scenes.
i was the only one who said to never underestimate a melodrama like Equator Man and now look!
well, i like The King 2 Hearts as well.
hope everyones had a gd week! in the middle of exam revision at the moment… revision truly is the bane of my life. *Sigh* anyone got good a good method for memorising notes? advice wld be much appreciated. as usual, i left it to the last minute >.<
also, i just wanna see if anyone is with me on this: King2Hearts is awesome, but the english actors really ruin it for me with their inability to deliver lines that don't sound like they're reading the script. wish they'd just leave them out and replace them with more effective actors…
I feel you.
I’m in the middle of revisions as well.
I always study early in the morning (as early as 5am) because it helps me remember better. I also write stuff down. Something about writing that reinforces facts in my memory.
And yeah, agree about the English actors. Not effective at all.
wow… hardcore. i have a problem with waking before 7am :p u must sleep really early!
I sleep around midnight usually. It’s nothing incredible. I’m just used to waking up early (and sporting my eye-luggage as a result) to study.
I”m a morning person, too. Regardless of when I went to bed (last night was midnight:30) I usually wake up, without an alarm, about 5:30 or 6:00 am. I like having the early morning hours to myself before people starting bugging me or calling me.
I do have a sister who will call a couple of times a week that early because in her time zone, she’s off to work, so she puts her bluetooth on and we have a lovely conversation while she fights the traffic. We had a gr grandpa who would call at 5:30 am on Saturday mornings, “what’s everybody doing?”. This sister and I were probably 5 and 8 years old when he died, but we remember that and so she always greets me with “what’s everybody doing?”.
Believe it or not, I’m not much of a morning person. Only if I stay up the night before.
I’m like Shel. I love the peace and quiet of the morning. I also wake up without an alarm at 6am daily. If I do set an alarm, I’d be awake a minute before the alarm rings. LOL
Okay, you perky morning people suck. LOL just kidding.
I have to use multiple alarms just to be sure I wake up in time, but thats probably a side effect of a midnight shift. Some days its hard enough just chewing through the restraints.
Anways, y’all have a good day! I’m going to see the parents (newly returned from Florida) and see if I can whine enough for my mom to make me some food.
Take care, chingus.
Maybe it’s because we come from ranchers that we like early morning. All of my sibs are morning people, too. Even Dramaqueen is up at the crack of dawn. Although she’s NEVER perky, morning or otherwise. She just needs to get an early start on whining, lol. Ha!
The sunlight hits us as early as 5.30am sometimes back home and my room faces the sunrise. Maybe that’s why.
And just cuz I”m up then, doesn’t mean I”m perky, lol.
Okay, I stand corrected – lol
