The King 2 Hearts: Episode 12

There’s nothing better than a show that can pack an hour full of heart-stopping action, fairytale romance, and gut-busting humor. Our hero gets into trouble, but you know what that means – time for the heroine to swoop in and save the day. ‘Ssup.

EPISODE 12 RECAP

Hang-ah’s father races into the prime minister’s office with the news – General ShortFuse has gone off the reservation and Jae-ha is in danger. Nooo! This is why we need a batphone!

Sure enough, the general’s troops march right up to Jae-ha to announce that they will be taking over his security detail from now on. Shi-kyung steps forward to tell them that he’s the only one who gets to put his hands on the king. Okay, he doesn’t say that, but he does step forward like a big ol’ hero to say that’s his job.

Soldiers on both sides tense up and reach for their guns. Shi-kyung is in full-on Doberman mode. Jae-ha comes forward and asks for their rank, and dismisses them with a laugh. I don’t think that was such a good idea.

The prime minister reacts skeptically to the news, even though it’s happening right now. He says that the general was just blowing off steam, but he wouldn’t do something so crazy as to kidnap the South Korean king… and then names the location where he’s going to be kidnapped. Er…

Hang-ah’s father looks up. He never said where…

Augh, the friggin’ prime minister’s in on it too? Is there anyone we can trust? At least he’s not so much IN on the plan, as he’s letting the plan happen so he can catch General Shouty and get rid of him for good.

But Hang-ah’s father reminds him that it’s the KING they’re talking about. Forget kidnapping – it’d be war if he got a splinter under his nail. Hee. I do enjoy prissy king jokes, despite the gravity of the situation.

He reminds the prime minister that war is the only way this scenario ends, which means a leveled peninsula, both North and South. That finally gets through to the man, and they send troops to arrest the general and his men, but they’re already in the wind. In fact it just makes the baddies move their timetable up.

Dad comically pretends to be talking about something else when Hang-ah bursts into his office during a frantic phone call. He’s turned the base upside-down looking for the general, which she tells him, and he’s like, how’d you know? Ha.

She tells him that Jae-ha has to be sent back home immediately, and Dad says he’s already on it—he’ll be sent back first thing tomorrow, because he’s got a few more stops on his cultural itinerary that can’t be undone.

Hang-ah freaks out, as do I. This is not a leisurely I’ll-take-in-the-sights-and-then-run-away-from-my-kidnappers-later kind of scenario here. But Dad in turn freaks out over her caring about a man who has nothing to do with her anymore. He swears he’s got it under control, and puts her under house arrest for good measure.

Jae-ha heads to an amusement park next, and Shi-kyung worries about the openness of the landscape. Won’t it be hard to secure the area? LISTEN to your head of security please. But their guide assures them it’ll be fine.

Hang-ah worries about the same thing when she hears about Jae-ha’s next stop from the two soldiers guarding her at home. They tell her to forget that jerk already, and ask if they can peek at the present he brought.

She tells them they can have it all and goes to her room, to stare herself down in the mirror and say over and over that Jae-ha is no longer any of her concern.

Dad decides to oversee Jae-ha’s amusement park visit personally, and watches as he rides the Viking. At first it’s dead silent, with citizens on one side and Jae-ha and his security team on the other, so finally Jae-ha nudges Shi-kyung and raises his arms up for a Whoooo~!

No one else follows along, so he has to force Shi-kyung, who does the most awkward and self-conscious Whooooo~. He finally gets everyone to join in, and they have a great time for the cameras, broadcasting live on the internet.

He even stops to wink into the camera at Secretary Eun, who watches from the palace. Keh. Everything is business as usual down at the park, but from the top of a hill, the baddies put their plan into motion and take over a security room.

Hang-ah cleans her room, which serves as a distraction for about five minutes. She comes out to ask about lunch, and the soldiers say they found a box underneath the other stuff in Jae-ha’s present.

They hand her the gift-within-a-gift, a box marked with the royal seal and a note: Handmade by Lee Jae-ha. Flashback to Jae-ha researching the best thing to make for her skin, and slaving away over his chemistry set like a big ol’ nerd. So. Cute.

She braces herself and then opens the box. There’s a note inside: “An unfamiliar marriage, an awful man, a miscarriage… For Kim Hang-ah, who had a really hard time: Natural 3-step Skincare Project.”

That’s adorable. It comes with detailed instructions on how to use everything, and then she takes out the first bottle. It’s called: “I’m sorry.” The second: “Thank you.” Omg so sweet.

Cut back to Chemistry Set Jae-ha, getting frustrated halfway through. He wonders if he has to work this hard, and then takes out his phone to look at a picture of Hang-ah dressed as his princess bride.

He sighs, “Of course you do, you jerk.” HA. He says to the picture, “I love you.”

And then Hang-ah takes out the last bottle. The third label: “I love you.” Awwww. She looks down at the gift, overcome with emotion.

She peeks outside at her sentries and asks for lunch again, and they rush to her side. Cut to: Hang-ah holding both agents by the throat, one with her hand, and one with her foot, while her free hand waves around a gun. Hahahaha.

She tells them she’ll be going out now, and then changes into her military uniform. It’s totally her superhero cape moment. She makes a call on her way out, to ask someone if they’re up for some training. Please be your WOC team. I want that reunion so badly.

Jae-ha gets led to a carousel, and he eyes the ride like, you want me to get on this? They swear it’s the last one, so he sighs and turns to Shi-kyung, who decides that it’s probably safe enough for him to ride alone. Ha. Is riding little horsies too emasculating for the super agent?

Jae-ha walks off sighing, “Stresssss.” The park’s mascot, Tom (of Tom and Jerry) follows him onto the ride along with a few civilians, and is anyone else suspicious of that overly cheery cat?

He goes ’round and ’round and everything seems fine, until suddenly the lights cut out. Bong-gu watches the live feed online, screaming, “Showtime!”

Suddenly the civilians aren’t civilians anymore—they take out guns and train them at Jae-ha’s head. Tom takes off his cat head, and of course it’s the agent he laughed at earlier that day.

Tom leads Jae-ha around the carousel, and Shi-kyung spots them. Guns come flying out from every direction, but so do Tom’s agents, who surround the secret service. Crap crap crap.

But then as if things weren’t bad enough, the baddies all rip open their jackets to reveal bombs strapped to their chests. Oh. Shit. Tom says go ahead and shoot, and he demonstrates by shooting one of his own men. He promptly explodes.

He announces that every bomb is wired to go off if the guy wearing it dies, and takes out a big trigger button as he orders everyone to drop their weapons and step back. They do as they’re told, with no other choice.

And then he reads a prepared speech for the camera, basically an angry attack at Jae-ha for using Hang-ah and stepping on North Korea’s pride. Oh, so this is you defending her honor? How helpful, but I think she’s got it under control there, cat.

Bong-gu has a direct connection to Tom via earpiece, and he actually directs him mid-speech to ask that the camera show Jae-ha’s terrified face. Dude, you are obsessed. He interrupts Tom’s speech to cut to the chase—his message to Jae-ha.

Tom hands Jae-ha the pre-recorded message from Bong-gu, claiming responsibility. Bong-gu watches eagerly, “That’s him, watching it right now, right?” He practically drools.

Hang-ah arrives just outside the park, running as she radios her backup. It’s Kang-seok! Whoooooo! And… whoa, is that a rocket launcher on your back, or are you just happy to see me?

And then! Young-bae sets up his sniper rifle from the top of the ferris wheel. NICE. The band is back together! Hang-ah looks down from the hill and her eyes widen at the sight below.

Jae-ha watches all of Bong-gu’s recording, barely holding back his terror. Please, don’t give him the satisfaction. He chucks the tablet on the ground in annoyance, “What’s he saying?” HA. I love that he’s smarter than the evil mastermind!

He looks Tom up and down, “Is Kim Bong-gu talking to you in that earpiece?” He turns to the camera, “He’s watching right?” Tom panics and takes out a gun from his cat belly. Jae-ha’s like, how much stuff do you have in there? Hee.

Jae-ha turns to the camera to give the best comeback ever: “Ya, Kim Bong-gu. If you’re going to work out your inferiority complex, do it right. What is this? Are you advertising to the entire world what a laughable ass you are? You can’t even show yourself so you send a video letter? What is this, Section TV? Are you shooting We Got Married? I. Don’t. Love you. So please stop, and go exercise. It’s really the best thing for a complex. Or go read a book. Work on cultivating your inner self. You overly self-conscious inferiority-complex-riddled ass!”

So. Satisfying. Bong-gu FLIPS out. “Kill him. KIIIIIIIIILL HIIIIIIIIIIIIIM! Detonate now!”

Boom! There’s an explosion, but it’s not the baddies. It’s Kang-seok, who busts through a wall to overtake the security station. He gets the lights on and the carousel moving again. It’s enough to throw the baddies into confusion, as they scramble to regain control.

And that’s when Sniper Young-bae fires at Tom’s trigger arm, and then takes out the surrounding gunmen, one by one. Yessss! Shi-kyung scrambles for a gun. But Hang-ah is faster, and she jumps onto the roof of the carousel, ready to make her move.

The cameras catch her, and everyone, including Mom and Secretary Eun, sees her. Kang-seok throws smoke grenades onto the carousel to give her cover, and she swoops in with one flying kick after another, to take out all of the gunmen singlehandedly.

Tom scrambles for the remote trigger and reaches out… and Hang-ah stomps on his hand and kicks the trigger away. She whips out her gun and sticks the barrel in his mouth. Dayum. Shi-kyung and the rest of the agents fight their way up and secure the bomber from her grasp.

Jae-ha watches as she turns and walks right off the carousel and into the night, like a superhero who’s done her work and doesn’t look back. It’s even got the dramatic smoke and everything. So badass.

She goes straight to her car to drive away, when a car pulls up in her path. Jae-ha gets out and stands in the road. She puts the car in park and then guns the accelerator, staring right at him. Ha. Nice way to let out some anger.

She shifts into drive and drives head on, but he doesn’t move or flinch. I love it. It’s his way of saying I’m not going anywhere. She stops a few feet short of turning him into a pancake and gets out of the car with a peeved look.

He asks, “Do you like me, or do you like Eun Shi-kyung?” She scowls, “I don’t know about that, but I do have someone I hate.”

Jae-ha: “Lee Jae-ha?” He reminds her of his famous vengeful streak. “I’m going to get revenge for those words.” She turns away, still fuming.

He takes a step closer. “Every morning, I’m going to kiss you. For revenge.” Hahaha.

“I’m going to follow you around all the time like a stalker, and buy you everything you want. I’ll never cheat. I will only look at you. From now on, I’ll never let you cry even one tear.” Which is of course exactly when she starts to cry. Aw.

He walks closer and wipes the tears from her eyes. “I’m going to make you the happiest queen in the world. And until the day I die, I will nauseatingly like only you. For revenge.” So adorable, the true-to-character, sweet-with-a-kick proposal.

And then, he gets down on one knee, and takes her hand in his. “Can you handle it, your highness?” She just looks down at him, crying more tears. He smiles, “Hey I’m officially proposing to you right now.”

She finally opens her mouth… to mutter that South Korean playboys are always smooth-talking with their stupid words, as she sniffles back tears. Hee.

He gets up and hugs her tight, as the cherry blossoms fall.

Now it’s time to deal with the baddies, starting with General Regrets-a-Lot, who demands payment from Club M because he held up his part of the bargain. Sort of. They don’t quite agree, and send his location to Hang-ah’s father, who doesn’t receive the help kindly, but does arrest the man with pleasure.

And then Bong-gu takes out his frustrations on his right-hand man, because… um… he can? What’s an impotent rage if you can’t share it with those closest to you?

Back home, news of the incident gets reported as “WOC members” saving the day, and Dong-ha sighs at the lack of naming names. Seriously, you save the day, and you don’t even get a mention on the news.

Secretary Eun releases an official statement on the question of Kim Bong-gu, as in who the hell is he, and he deflects to say that he’s nobody important, and that it’s a nickname the king invented to represent those who oppose reunification. Pffft. He apologizes to all the Kim Bong-gus of the world for misusing their name. Ha.

He calls Jae-ha to say that he got the press off that scent for now, and Jae-ha asks if anyone’s found the recording (of Bong-gu claiming responsibility) yet. They haven’t, but Secretary Eun reminds him that he doesn’t have the power to do anything with that evidence anyway.

He says that most big players already know that Kim Bong-gu is John Meyer, but they can’t do anything about it because it would mean war for their country. Jae-ha asks how long they’re just supposed to stand by, while he kills hyung, goes after Jae-shin, and now him. Secretary Eun calls him out, saying truth be told, Jae-ha is scared too—that’s why he hasn’t acted yet, why he hasn’t come forward about Bong-gu’s identity. URG. I hate you, old man!

Shi-kyung interrupts him to say it’s time to go home. Jae-ha walks down the train platform where the prime minister apologizes again for what happened while he was here. Jae-ha asks if he knows who Kim Bong-gu is.

He can tell by the look on his face that he does. “Let’s grow strong together.” Nice. He reaches out his hand, and the prime minister shakes it. Hey, enemy of my enemy can be an ally when it counts.

Hang-ah calls her father to say that she’s going now. He pouts that he doesn’t care, whatever, she’s just going to do what she wants anyway. Aw. Jae-ha boards the train car and snatches the phone from her.

He calls him “Father,” and promises to visit with Hang-ah after chuseok. Dad says he can’t handle the stress from his visits, given the international terrorist fiascos and whatnot, but Jae-ha insists they’ll be there, and leaves Dad smiling. Yay.

He asks why the long face, and she says that South Korea still scares her, and she’s worried about how she’ll be received. He takes her hand reassuringly.

They arrive at the palace and Mom and Secretary Eun are waiting in her room. Mom runs up and takes Hang-ah’s face in her hands, and tells her how sorry and grateful she is. Hang-ah says she should bow properly, and Mom says no, she should be the one bowing to Hang-ah, for saving her son’s life.

She leads her inside to her room filled with presents sent from well-wishers, from food to seaweed to bears and other gifts. She opens up a few, overwhelmed by the gestures, and then finds a note in one, written in blood? Creepy red ink? “Kim Hang-ah Die.”

HAHAHAHAHA. This show, it kills me. What a way to cut the saccharine. Mom quickly snatches that one out of her hands, but Hang-ah’s so happy she doesn’t even register it.

Jae-ha smiles, pleased at her warm reception, and Secretary Eun follows him out to say that that’s not really a lot of presents, and technically, fifty percent of the public still opposes the union. Jae-ha groans, “Ajusshi! Do you have to say things like that right now? We just got here!”

Secretary Eun just doesn’t want him floating around with his head in the clouds (or he delights in being a killjoy because he’s eeeeevil, take your pick) and Jae-ha assures him that he won’t, saying that Daddy Eun is just as un-fun as Shi-kyung.

“I know it’s just the beginning. I’m going to raise it—that power you talked about.” Secretary Eun smiles proudly despite himself. I do think that he believes he’s justified in everything he’s doing for the good of the monarchy. It’s just… you know what they say about the road to hell.

Shi-kyung goes right back to work like the toy solider that he is, gathering more intel on Club M. I don’t know why he has to be told this by someone else, but the princess is the one who holds the key to identifying her brother’s killer.

He goes to check on Jae-shin and finds her playing cards with her staff. She’s happy to see him and asks him to join the game, but he’s so wired from worrying about her that he ends up asking gruffly if this is all she’s been doing while he was gone, instead of trying to recover her memories.

She gets defensive and asks why he’s attacking her when he of all people knows what she’s going through. Shi-kyung: “So do you want my pity?” Ouch. She looks up at him with a stricken look, saying that she can’t force herself to remember.

But he challenges her, “Or is it that you don’t want to remember?” He calls her out for clinging to it as a weakness, to get more sympathy, to be treated with kid gloves by everyone around her.

He tells her that she has to face it, and even if the memories don’t come back, if she doesn’t deal with it, she’s just going to get worse and worse. “Please come back, Princess. Be bold, like you were before.”

But this is a tough love speech she’s not ready to hear, and she cuts him off to call and ask that Shi-kyung be replaced by another agent from now on. Nooo. She calls him a frustrating ass.

It stuns him so much that he stands through an entire meeting with Jae-ha lost in thought. He remembers every time Jae-shin called him frustrating in cute ways, culminating in the last one, meant to be an insult.

Jae-ha snaps him back to reality, and Shi-kyung asks, “Am I really that frustrating?” Aw, but you’re also adorably earnest! Jae-ha isn’t one to mince words, and confirms it, and Shi-kyung just sighs, resigned to his fate as a funless bot. Maybe we could install some party programs in your CPU.

Jae-ha then goes to Hang-ah, to fill her in on Kim Bong-gu, Club M, and everything that’s been going on. See, THIS is what I’ve been waiting for. The romantic declarations are all swoonworthy, but I love that he treats her as an equal, and goes to her for advice and support. It’s real, and lovely.

He tells her everything about Bong-gu—that he’s just one man, but more than just a man. He has endless money, with which he’s bought up everything. His modus operandi: “That power is justice.” Might is right? Yeah, that about sums it up. Evil bastards.

He says the whole world wants to see North and South tear each other apart. He spins the little globe on the table with a sigh, “There’s so much to do, but we’re so small.” Man, you can just see it on her face, like she’s watching him grow up in front of her.

He asks if she thinks they can do it—the WOC, getting married. She’s struck by his sincerity and his very kingly concerns, which is a side of him she’s never really seen before.

Suddenly she’s like waitaminute, “What’re you saying, that you’re NOT going to marry me?” Ha. He’s like, I am, I am, but she bolts up, “So if it gets difficult, are you just going to send me back? You know that’ll be the THIRD TIME!”

She rants, calling him a rat bastard, and he takes her hands, repeating that they will, he swears, what about now, next month? Hee. But she pulls her hands away and tells him to stomp out Bong-gu first: “If you can’t handle him, you’re not even a MAN. Why would I marry a guy like that?”

Oh nice. She’s totally turning it into a challenge for him. It’s brilliant. He has something to fight for, and gets a boost of confidence without being patronized. Plus it has the added benefit of leaving him all flustered. She says she’ll reject him if he doesn’t succeed, and he calls out after her, “I’ll do well!”

She storms into her room and calls Daddy, asking how long he’s known about Bong-gu. He whines at being woken up in the middle of the night and wonders how she knows, and she shouts into the phone that Comrade Jae-ha, a guy who laughs when people threaten him with bombs, is quaking in his boots.

“I’m not going to leave him be—the bastard who made my man this way!” She’s so cute. She starts yelling about how she’s going to slit his throat, and Dad tells her he’s already on it, with the research.

But research isn’t gonna cut it for Action Girl, and she basically orders Dad to find out where Bong-gu lives, lying that Jae-ha needs it for his plan. Thank you! Someone else who thinks just bombing the hell out of his fancy house should do the trick. I know, it’s probably not going to work, but I need someone to TRY.

Meanwhile, Jae-ha and Shi-kyung are off chasing another lead on Bong-gu—a girl at a club who sees him on a regular basis. They track her down, and Jae-ha goes in for the big seduction…

But he spins back on his heels to remind Shi-kyung that this is all in the name of The Plan. “The person I love is our Hang-ah. There is only Hang-ah… Just in case she says something, you have to be my witness!” Pfffft. Shi-kyung smiles and nods. I don’t know how he’s not busting a gut right now.

Annnnd, I was already laughing, but then you got a full shot with your shiny shoes, and now I’m on the floor.

Mission: Seduce-the-girlfriend-but-only-in-the-name-of-the-plan-if-Hang-ah-asks is a go.

Sometime later Bong-gu receives a care package in the mail, sent to his home address. It’s got a royal seal on it. He opens the letter from Jae-ha that says he sent a present, but not to bother opening it.

It requires a password, and Jae-ha wouldn’t want him to suffer trying to figure it out. He does give a hint though: “It’s something I have, that you don’t.” Taunting the villain never gets old. He closes the letter with, “But don’t open it. You’ll regret it.”

So of course he sits down with it right away. He’s so hooked. Also, I love the password game! Among the things he tries: royal seal, good looks (deciding that’s not true after all, ha), honor, youth, manners, a conscience.

Jae-ha tells Secretary Eun about the plan and says that now is the time to strike, and he’s going to do it together with Hang-ah. He asks for ajusshi’s help.

Bong-gu goes crazy (er, crazier) trying to open the box, and flings it at his minion to take an axe to it. Only of course it’s wired to explode if it’s tampered with. Have you never seen a spy movie? He refuses to let it be taken away.

The royal couple heads out to Hang-ah’s first public appearance since the hearings. Jae-ha asks if she’s ready, and she nods. He holds her hand one last time in the car, and then leads her up the red carpet hand-in-hand.

Bong-gu ponders the password, and then it hits him. He gets up with a start and whispers into the box, “People.”

It opens.

Jae-ha and Hang-ah reach the top of the steps, and then face each other for one last us-against-the-world look. Then they turn to face the cameras.

COMMENTS

WHAT’S IN THE BOX? Okay, sorry I had to get that Seven quote out of my system. I love the games Jae-ha plays with Bong-gu, knowing that curiosity will get the better of the maniacal bastard. So far he’s played every exchange with him perfectly—that carousel speech was such sweet vengeance, not to mention crazy brave, given the circumstances. And even in setting the password to “People,” it says so much about what Jae-ha understands about his adversary.

Sure, he has more money, more power than Jae-ha has. But the king has his people—from the woman he loves and his action wingman, to every last citizen in his kingdom, something that Bong-gu will never have. More than anything, I love that he’s come to acknowledge that a king can be more than a puppet, and that maybe he finally gets what hyung always said about the king belonging to the people—the crown is theirs, and it represents them. Though he might not have money or power, he has the might of the people, and perhaps he’ll find that when moved, they are a greater power than money can ever buy.

It was so satisfying to see Hang-ah and Jae-ha each be badass in their own ways when faced with danger. How much do I love that he’s the brains and she’s the brawn? I mean, REALLY. It doesn’t get any better than that. I wish we could’ve gotten an actual reunion scene with the WOC team post-rescue—they saved his life for crying out loud. But I’m going to tell myself that there were hugs and drinks and SNSD jokes offscreen somewhere.

The proposal was adorable, of course, but what’s great about this couple is that their everyday interactions are just as full of bickering cuteness as the big romantic moments are, so it’s not a departure from the norm. And I love that they’ve finally moved past fighting each other, so that they can fight the world together, hand in hand.

this is the second drama I've ever love THIS much. (after City Hunter) I really love this episode! and the proposal was so adorable. and that handmade face creams.. oh so cute! I literally applauded when Jae Ha spoke to that creepy club M guy through the camera. like, IN YOUR FACE. I love how calm he was (well..how good he acted calm actually) while going through that.. even making fun of the Tom guy, saying is he a doraemon so he had a lot of stuff in his pocket. it was so serious but I can't help but laugh! and also when Bong Gu was trying to solve the password, the background music is so creepy. like any evil's background music.. but I really find it amusing for him to get frustrated by himself, like a kid trying to solve something. and I laughed when he said "visual", and even said that "of course my face and his face is not that much different anyway" heh. XD

TK2H and Equator are my must-see! Episode 11 and 12 of Rooftop was not bad. I was really getting tired of Se Na so I had relegated watching Rooftop to my boredom time (like Love Rain) :-D

Se na is very annoying. Much more annoying than Bong gu. >.< although, he doesn't annoy me that much now.

I've only just read the recaps for RTP and I already know where the story is headed anyway even if they finally reveal the whole mystery of the murder plot.

what i loved about it was the very first preview and then the whole riddle thing. i still think its BUTTERFLIES.

if somebody answers soul. it's all the same thing since in Greek it means soul. LOL!!

Where do I start!?

First, am so glad this is a 20 episode drama! 4 weeks to go! My summer is getting better and better!

The one thing thats got us so hooked to this drama s the change of place every now and then, The locations, the story developing along with them, the cinematography is just too good.

On back to the story, my most favorite part of this episode, Jae Ha telling Bong Gu I DONT LOVE YOU. That was so so so satisying and he cant get a bigger slap in the face than that.

JH spinning the globe and telling so much stuff to do and that they are so small. That adoration on Hang-Ah's face!! I was so damn proud of him and can only guess how much mroe she would have felt.

And Kim Hang Ah's rescue mission!
I was just enthralled, when she put the gun in the bad guy's mouth , she was so so badass.

And am I the only one who kept staring at her legs when she pinned the girl soldiers in her home?!?!
That skirt speaks innocence and in a sceond it turned into a perfect action suit!!!!!!!

And I wish they showed what was in that box exactly, I mean there was a lot of build up and bam, we the episode ends!!!

I so hope the drama goes this way till the end!

On one hand, I can't wait for the next eps, but I can see myself getting totally depressed once K2H ends! (Maybe I'll pull a K2H marathon and watch all 20 eps in 3 days or something)

Agreed, "I don't love you" was epic. I love it when JH and BG have confrontation screen time. It's so satisfying to see JH one-upping BG. That's one witty and quick-thinking king.

I'll go back and read the million comments later, I'm at work - but this I can't wait to say.

For romance, thrills, and laughter, I cannot think of a single episode of anything I've seen (and it's only been a year, but I've seen a LOT) that I liked better than this.

I watched it subbed at 89% alone and then again immediately after at 90% with Shel (online.) If I didn't have to work today I'd have watched it a THIRD time at 91% immediately after that.

I thought about it this morning coming in to work and had the same embarrassingly tearful reactions to my memory of the show as I did to the two viewings from last night.

Jae Ha, Hang Ah, Shi Kyung, Jae Ha's Mom, Hang Ah's dad, the WOC boys...they rock SO HARD.

And now that I get to be happy for a bit for Jae Ha and Hang Ah, Shi Kyung and Jae Shin get to make me sad for a bit. Oh, the rollercoaster. I love it!

Unnie, will it suffice if I lie down for him here in Canada?! heh

I do have to say that I think about this drama a LOT! As in not spazz-mode thinking but the storyline/dialogues/character dev't etc. After watching the subbed episode once already....when I watched it again I totally got teary-eyed at the proposal. I thought about the earlier revenge that JH had discussed with DH that he would seek from HA....the continuation in dialogue was such a beautiful touch. Another scene that got me teary-eyed was the wonderful reunion of HA with his mum. My smile mirrored those three smiles!!

To busy myself until next week I decided to give City Hunter another go and it was not a good idea....couldn't even finish ep 2!! It'll be soo hard letting go of this drama, the characters, the heart!! *sniffles*

@Saima, I saw yours and rearwindow's comments regarding CH and could not help but feel a sense of relief. So I am not the only one!!!

I tried to be fair, I really did. I gave CH three chances but still ended up scratching my head. What TK2H did to set up characters was that the major characteristics were instilled from the beginning. Those people look and feel to have had a life history behind them, as any role older than 1 year should. The life experiences enrich them and make them interesting. But it's hard work for the writers (they had to write them, duh!) Also there can not be any wishy washy way to dodge or side-step once viewers have expectations of the characters.

In handling this, TK2H is brilliant. We become enamored with Jae Ha and Hang Ah, all their flaws, skeletons in the closet, moles on their asses. We might disagree with their actions, but we understand, in some cases after thinking about it a bit, where they came from. Unlike in some dramas (I am afraid CH being one), you knew where the writers got lazy and just wanted to fill yet another page without too much sweat or thought.

There are simply too many reason to love TK2H. I feel I am so lucky to get to watch it!

most of all the underlying message of this drama.

I''l lie down for him from here in Bangladesh! :P I really have to agree with u on those counts. I love the detail this drama has. My goodness, I have watched my fair share of KDramas, but this one is just mind blowing. Soooo much detail and thought into making the characters, the plot and everything else what they are! I really would love to kiss the hands of the writer some day :D My favorite drama till date!

Hi guys, just wondering where you guys hail from? I reckon all u guys are prolly like me, international fans but most likely from Asia... but non-korean speaking hence the flocking to this awesome site where GF always breaks the episodes down spot-on... just like How I would write it if I could write like that... haha

Anyways, this drama has officially hit my no 1 list of this year and most probably No.2 all time list, we will see if it bumps off my no.1 which is obvious fr my nickname.

But I must say, I've not seen better acting on Kdramas other than Ha Ji Won, she's definitely the best of the lot.

How my heart broke with hers as she trembled recalling her baby, or how she literally expressed it all in her face, her inhibitions crumbling when she said "are all southern players that smooth?"

This is a defo Girl Crush moment. As for LSG, must say he is making me love him more and more each episode. Doesn't feel like he is 8 years younger, they seem like peers, which means, some great acting is going on there.. or some awesome chemistry!

so much to say, but just can't tell u how excited and happy weds, thurs makes me! and fridays, cos all the subs get released!!!

in the recap of ep. 11 or 10 *can't remember* someone posted a link to http://www.ionair.tv/detail_p.php

she said you can watch it live with subs *I myself haven't try it though*

0

It's episode 10, kekeke, to be truth I even posted about how to get the subs after it <<2nd culprit

You need to register first, and it's live sub

but really, getting connected to MBC at TK2H airing is difficult, it's crowded, until now I never success even once! my fellow airen said that she need to login since 1 hour before, of course it's also depend on your connection.
In this very episode(12), for the first time ion air is showing of traffic, she said that when she change the channel, everything running smoothly, but when it's MBC, she need to grab her hair ^^

Plus, I don't know if you'll enjoy this, but since I'm frustrated with live streaming, i usually checks timeline, there are few twitter user who live reporting every wednesday and thursday night

0

hey, from arizona :)

i watch it live on ionair.tv but i couldn't do it with subs though.
so far, i liked watching it raw because i feel the emotions more strangely enough.

glad to see fellow Indonesian hearties here!
why don't you watch it on ViKi? I think it's the fastest way to watch the sub episodes. TK2H aired at Wednesdays 8:55 PM KST, and the fully subbed episode would be out in Viki in Thursday afternoon.. but if Viki said it's not available in your region, you can download hotspot shield. and you can watch any unavailable videos in Viki. :D

it's totally addicting,at first i just watch it for the sake of LSG :D,no matter what kind of drama it is,i'll watch it coz it has LSG,but it turns out to be such a DAEBAK drama faaar away beyond my expectation...,the best one i've ever seen...

I loved The Moon that embraces the Sun and The Princess' Man. Wonderful dramas! My latest obsession is TK2H. What a great show.

Thank you, GF, for your wonderful recaps. You seem to catch so many little gestures and facial expressions and interpret them for us non-Korean language speakers. I usually have to watch an episode twice since reading the subs causes me to miss the important expression on the actor's face. So your recaps are greatly appreciated.

I am an American also. I'm from California but live in Texas. This is my 5th or 6th Kdrama and the first I've watched "live". I was trying to stop my 16 - 20 hour marathon of watching previously aired shows. Ha! TK2H didn't help. Now I watch both this show and prior shows. I.Need.Help. Or better yet I'll just stop telling people what I do and watch in secret so they won't think 1) that I'm insane and 2) try to intervene.

I'm so glad AhHa got back together quickly. I was a nervous wreck last week and if this hadn't turned out the way it did I don't know what I would have done. I dislike waiting until the last 5 mintues of the last episode for the couple to finally admit that they love each other. Yeesh.

I'm new to Kdrama, but it's basically all I watch now. I've tried to explain it to my friends, but I think if one hasn't watched a Kdrama it's too hard to comprehend how it sucks you in. I too also stumbled upon it. Hulu suggested "Stars Falling from the Sky" and that's all it took. Not only do I watch Kdrama but I'm also really interested in Korea. I hope to take my next vacation there (and not just to check out Kdrama spots). I even went to the local Korean restaurant last week. The food in other shows was driving me mad and I had to try it.

There are three Korean actors I've started following and now I'll have to add LSG. There's just something intangible about him. I think it's his smile . . . it spreads all the way to his eyes. I just love that. I'd heard of someone's eyes smiling but only recently saw it and LSG is a great example of that (Gong Yoo is another great example).

It's nice to know that I'm not alone in my affliction/additiction to Kdrama!

I'm a Filipina. An origin of the Philippines but have lived in Northen Cali half my life. I started watching Korean drama since 2009. However, this is my very first watching it "live" and follow GF recaps at the same time. It's also my first commenting and interacting with the fellow dramabeans. I am elated that I have a place to talked and discussed a Kdrama. I do have a friend who is obsessed with Kdrama, at least I can talk to her and we can both relate to each other. :) I even rent Korean movies at Amazon and even purchased Korean song at itunes. Yup, you could say I got the Korean Fever going on.

0

I've been wanting to talk to someone about kdramas and am so glad to have found this forum. I've tried at work to explain why I like these shows so much, but everyone has been kind of rolling their eyes at me.

So it's nice to meet fellow addicts to talk about shows and beautiful guys. I'm with you on Gong Yoo. Saw him on Coffee Prince and wished I was Yoon Eun Hye. Park Shi Hoo, Lee Dong Wook, Lee Min Ho, Cha Seung Won......all great actors and beautiful to look at.

0

@ californiagurl: I'm a Coffee Prince addict too! well, it's nice to know that there are so many people out there that share the same addiction to kdrama *especially this one*, eh?

0

@yellow buttercup
Coffee Prince was a great show. Loved both Gong Yoo and Yoon Eun Hye in it. Realistic love scenes. Also loved that Gong Yoo, after fighting with himself, thinking that he, a straight guy, actually liked what he thought was a guy, gave up the struggle and decided that he loved Eun Chae, regardless of gender.

0

"his smile... all the way to the eyes "

that was my first impression of him too when i first saw him in strong heart.

and i'm going to repeat it again. this guy is handsome and full of appeal. not the flower boy kind thank god for that.
that's probably why i can take him more seriously.

0

Yes, his smile..it's so beautiful and it penetrating deep in you heart, duh.

when I see him first in Brilliant Legacy, I just find him is an average looking man, but there is one scene in episode 11 (look! I even remember which scene it is), when he smiles and i was gaping, to see how BEAUTIFUL (yes I use word beautiful) his smile it is,and how it could look so sincere?

and Gong Yoo, yes, he is a man with this kind of smile too. I think I'm so weak of man with this kind of smile...

0

Goong You, 'nough said. Yup, I love Coffe Prince too. All the actors did a great job, may it be the main leads or second leads.

American, living in CT. Nothing Korean was really on my radar until about last June - I liked Asian horror movies, though, and heard about a free streaming site called Crunchy Roll. Checked it out, liked the poster picture for Goong...clicked on that...next thing I know it's two days later and I'm exhausted from lack of sleep and sobbing. Went from that right to Boys Over Flowers...found DB when I was trying to find explanations for the craziness...and really that was the end of me for anything else! I have watched dozens of dramas (new and old) now, and barely watch any American TV. Several months after discovering DB and using it pretty much just for articles and recaps of older shows, I clicked on OT...and my circle of insanity got much, much wider.

Hi JoAnne (Texan here) ~re: "I have watched dozens of dramas (new and old) now, and barely watch any American TV."

I have absolutely NO IDEA what's on American TV right now...or frankly, for the past two years. seriously.

The last time there was an American Awards program I saw some of the Red Carpet pics randomly on the internet. Couldn't name even 3 of the actors/actresses...much less what show.

...got hooked on Kdramas 2 years ago while surfing youtube for Japanese anime. Oddly enough, one of the YT channels with loads of good Anime...ALSO had 2 (3?) Korean dramas....so I clicked~

...mostly because the teaser pick was of Oh Ji Ho...was thinking "Wow, what ethnic group has the DNA to make a a FACE like THAT?".....and thus, I discovered that Korea, for a small country, has the highest ratio of insanely attractive men.....ever.

I've never looked back.

The exciting thing is...every single person I've *burned CD's for* ...telling them you have to check this(Kdramas) out, has come back asking for more, or they go hunting on their own and suggest things back to me. So Awesome.

I Love being part of the *Stealth Movement* ~heehee.

How my heart broke with hers as she trembled recalling her baby, or how she literally expressed it all in her face, her inhibitions crumbling when she said “are all southern players that smooth?”

i've watched most of her stuff and through the years esp. now i would have to agree with seung gi on this she is the best actress in her generation..... well, best "drama" actress. i feel as if there are better actress but she just gets into character mode most of the time in her dramas that i always felt she's the best in the lot.

not to mention she has a unique face that is memorable and which can really put on so many emotions just like on the scenes you mentioned. countless times i've watched her done this to perfection , just no words to describe.

but this tk2h scenes though are the most natural and freer acting that i've seen from her in a long time. amazing woman :)

i do hope she surprises me and take a role as a villain. this would really make her come to full circle for me as an actress.

Yes, she is great. To be honest, she only registered as the Damo girl (I love Damo!), but then my infatuation was with another Mr. Lee, who happened to be LSG's good buddy.

Anyway, in Damo I only saw her tough side, and that suppressed passion which she portrayed very well. But in TK2H, from the meeting with Jae Ha, I saw how she just slithers her way from tough to tougher and then back to soft and even flirty. I was like omg where is she coming from. The way she COMMANDS the guys to stand down. The bathroom scene! I was totally sold.

Her acting is really subtle. You have to watch her with full attention, or you will miss those sublime emotional transitions.

LSG must be in heavens playing against HJW.

To be truth, AnnMichelle, do you remember at SBS Drama Award 2010 that He said 'he want to plays drama with Ha Ji Won next time'? When I heard that he casted in this drama I thought my self, 'Whaaaa?? Jinja? Seung Gi, your wish really comes true!'

Side note, it's Ha Ji Won who make him accept this drama without seeing the script plus, Ahha, sounds like a fan meet his idol, right? ;)

Yeah, I remember. At the time I thought he's just a Secret Garden fan (sorry, for some strange reason and I am probably the only one, I could not get into Secret Garden).

I don't remember much interaction between Seung Gi and Ji Won at the award show itself (I read somewhere that they did). But I totally recalled how HB was trying to chat up SMA and our Seung Gi (in DaeWoong mode) swooped in to lay claims to his girl. So funny.

And then the next time I saw SG and JW they were at the Savings Day Award. I thought how did this girl manage to look younger and younger. And it's not just her features, beautiful and finely formed that they were, it's her spirit. She just gave off that fresh and pure and demure feel of a young woman. Boy, they looked SO GOOD together there.

The rest is really history.

0

OMG -- he accepted this drama without seeing the script?
He is such an adorable fanboy.
i bet underneath he's just jumping with joy and is so happy right now.

0

@ilikemangoes:
That's what I heard -or read, or maybe they mean that he don't read the script thoroughly. When he accept this drama, I'm jumping with joy that one of his wish come true (aside of getting girlfriend heh), and never thought that it'll come true this fast!

@maria:
I'm sorry for butting in, but which one do you questioning is real? About both of them got award in saving days? yes. Apparently, both of them are youngster with Big saving, Seung Gi got award as "President' and Ha Ji Won got award as 'secretary'-don't know the meaning behind the naming though :p -

AnnMichelle, please correct me if I'm wrong

So far K2H is my favorite Kdrama, but depending on how they do the ending, this might just change. I hope this doesn't end up with a rushed ending like most of the kdramas. I'm from the US--NYC to be exact. Not a drop of Korean (or Asian) blood in me. I stumbled upon Lie to Me on Netflix, thought it looked interesting.

Even though LTM was not very good, the beginning episodes were miles above any TV I'd seen before--witty, funny, thoughtful. I loved how the episodes and characterizations built on each other. It sparked an interest in other kdramas (which I watched on Hulu before discovering dramafever, viki, etc.), and as soon as I picked up Coffee Prince, I was just completely hooked. At first I was disappointed that kdramas only have one season, but I quickly came to appreciate how much intense character growth was possible by starting out with a set number of episodes. I just adore the format of kdramas and (like many others here) don't really care to watch anything else anymore. Even movies have more or less lost their appeal for me. I find that the typical American format of running dramas for an undefined period of time until they lose their audiences really doesn't allow for the depth of character development/evolution that is front-and-center in kdramas. Kdramas are such a treasure.

I'm from Chicago too! (i.e. Des Plaines...)

To chime into the giant thread...I got hooked on You're Beautiful in August after reading Sarah Rees Brennan's hilarious recap of the first couple of episodes...

Not sure when exactly I quit American tv but it definitely happened...maybe around winter break? I guess I got sick of how slow moving everything is when you have seasons to draw out certain plot lines etc...

This is the first time I'm watching dramas live, rather than marathoning, and I'm torn. It's so hard to wait, but I feel like that's gonna make it more memorable. I'm doing Love Rain/Rooftop Prince/King 2 Hearts and they're all so enjoyable that I feel like I'm never going to have such a great lineup again...aaaaaaaand I'm terrified at least one of them will break my heart because usually I'll avoid dramas that end less than happily...

As LSG claims, HJW is the best actress of her generation. That I couldn't agree more. Indeed she is!!! She pulled off all her dramatic scenes and action scenes with flying colors. HJW on the other hand affirms LSG being a multimedia star... now a revelation in the field of acting. They just clicked it and wow..their chemistry is exceptional.

I think he also had something similar written on the cake that he'd custom ordered for her in celebration for her forthcoming movie "Korea" (check this: he's soo bloody awesome; he got the cake cuz he couldn't attend the premiere or something)!! And, there was an in-depth article on LSG in a Chinese magazine where HJW told that she had qualms earlier (since they're 9 yrs apart) about their chemistry and what not but she needn't have worried cuz he's a very good actor!

So, yeah mad adulation on both sides!! :D

HJW in this drama is just amazing. I'm not very familiar with her older works and have only seen her in this and Secret Garden (great chemistry there too) and I'm on the fangirl bandwagon!

What I really love about this drama is her portrayal of the different aspects in HA's character (the writers really developed the character so well). There's that juxtaposition of her being the tough as nails superhero who saves the day, then there's the HA who seems to become so vulnerable when it comes to her feelings for JH.

And of course, the father-daughter relationship is lovely. So representative of Asian father-daughter relationships actually.

Second you on their chemistry. One would think that they were dong-gap in real life instead of noona-dongsaeng. In fact, their chemistry is so palpable that I dont even miss the kissing scenes. Just the two of them looking at each other is hot enough for me. *opening doors and windows to cool me off*

Seriously you think Asian father-daughter relationships are like that? My dad would have killed me if he found out if I kissed a guy prior to marriage, forget getting pregnant.

Well, the getting pregnant part not, I could imagine by dad killing me too if that happened, but I was thinking more of the phone conversation on the train, where he's kind of sad, and still caring, but in a gruff way: "do whatever you want, it's not like what I say will make a difference."

Hi emmy! You should watch HJW's other earlier dramas too like Memories in Bali and Hwangjini. She's also great in them. I've heard so much about Damo. Will try to find where I can catch it online as I don't think it's available in vid stores anymore.

Oh! By the way, I'm from Singapore. Though I haven't met any fellow S'porean on DB, we don't have a K-wave in Singapore but more like a K-tsunami! I myself started very very late. Just last Oct with Brilliant Legacy, also starring LSG. Like most of u, I haven't look back since.

Anticipating a big hole after TK2H ends, I was planning to watch City Hunter after it ends since so many of you like-minded fans think it's great. But now, CH too doesn't seem to come up to par, heh? Otokajo? (Is that right for What should I do?)

Hi babes! What a coincidence, I'm from Singapore too!:) I've been watching K-dramas for years, though LSG and HJW I've only "discovered" last year after watching their 2010 dramas.

I have been following DB for over a year, but I've never ever posted till K2H! I did read the summary online, but I've heard really great feedback about it. I'm just reluctant to watch it because I get really depressed watching sad movies!

I had the same though. So many fans here have compared K2H's level of awesomeness to CH, so I was thinking that has to be great too! If you are a LSG fan like me, I'm sure you watched "My girlfriend is a gumiho"? That was really enjoyable.

Never heard of LSG till K2H... will check out Brilliant Legacy after K2H. I'm officially a LSG fangirl now.

But HJW rocks in K2H, love her in this role.

Sorry to butt in but the Singaporeans are pretty active on viki both.
the Korean and Taiwanese dramas. There is apparently a kick ass Korean language school there as well. I do know several who comes to DB, they just don't comment.
Loved episode 12 about to watch it with subs didn't even bother with it although I can get the viki subs. I loved the acting so much that I just want to concentrate on the screen.

Here Jae Ha needs to buy an insurance (from Shi Kyung, hahaha!) to protect HIMSELF from future fall-outs with Hang Ah.

And everyone nods their heads thinking, "Wise move! You really might need it!"

Love TK2H! And thank you for treating women with respect as they deserve!

Even though he didn't think Jae Ha was fit to be the king, and he takes a very cynical, jaded view of the monarchy - I honestly don't think he expected that his info sharing would result in such evil. And now I see him as a human person with weaknesses and strengths and fears; he's trying to protect himself but he never goes very far into doing wrong, and he's torn by an obvious pride and affection for Jae Ha, as well as loyalty to the family in general. He was complacent, that's all. It's easy to let your guard slip about security when you think, in the end, the monarchy isn't that important/doesn't have real power - so who would want to hurt them like that?

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

i just feel like he is more of a realist believer..
And he just doesn't have the faith in Jae Ha that is needed to ultimately guide Jae Ha.
And if he doesn't start believing in him, how can he protect him properly?
I think he needs to look deep within, and listen to his friggin' son earnest bot

0

Required fields are marked *

I think secretary Eun falls into this "grey area". I don't think his aim is to sabotage the monarchy, unlike Bong-gu, but right now he's probably trying to cover his own ass about JaeKang's death more than anything else.

Required fields are marked *

Ok my thoughts on the old man. He knows he "F" things up for the king he was serving. (The confessional tape) And that the one he thought of as a waste of space.(Jae Ha) Started out just as bad he thought he would be. Hang Ah might have the ability but lacked the willingess to be a strong queen.

The Old man I am almost certain is planning on taking Club M or at least Nuty Boy out in some grand gesture which he will not survive nor even plan to survive.

Then Jae Ha showed backbone and finally did not tell him to let him do this but asked him. To show he was able to be a good king. That is the reason for the old man has given him slack.

But that slack is not going to be given so he can back down from the job of showing the people of the nation that Jae Ha is worthy of the post and that Hang Ah is worthy of their support as Queen.

Hell it took bombs dropping on the Palace during the Blitz to get the last of the holdouts to support King George V of England.

Required fields are marked *

I suddenly recalled the document that contains Secretary Eun's confession. I wonder how the writers would use that in future episodes! Maybe he's gonna come clean when Jae Ha is mature enough and has enough experience. Nah... I'm giving him too much credit.

I have a feeling that Earnest Bot would be the king's future secretary. He's loyal and understands Jae Ha's unconventional thinking. He's acting like a secretary right now with the Club M stuff.

I still can't fathom what he expected the donors to do when he gave out the King's vacation spot. Did he expect them to invite the King over for barbecue and have a good ol' time? I mean com'on, you have worked for the Royal family for 30+ years, the least you should know is that if someone tries so hard to get the King's whereabouts it should trigger caution alarms.

However, unlike what many have said, I do not want him to die some heroic death saving the King. I want him to live with the knowledge that his actions lead to the King's death, I want him to see his impression fall in his earnest bob son's eyes. Sacrificial death with last minute confession and earnest apology will only forever put him in the martyrdom light ad I cannot allow that. Some redemption I can allow, but an easy death? Hell no. Yes, I am sadistic that way, but after he contributed in the King's death and actively tried to lay the blame on Hang Ah, I want him to feel guilty, live with that guilt and die a little everyday. Now THAT will make me happy, but I have a sneaking suspicion that the show will go the sacrificial route.

I wish I can speak Korean...I have to watch each epi at least three times- once for the expression, second time for the meaning, and the third time to watch their expression knowing wht they said!

Im an ahjumma with kids and a regular job and Ive watched a grand total of 4 kdrama- not enough to know how great this drama is over others, but I do know that this drama is GREAT! it subtle and its not overacted and you believe every little reaction!- how Hang Ah (short for Ah'm so awesome) felt so hurt that he didnt care enough for her to prevent her going through the trial, and how she hated herself for loving him, and how despite herself she's forgiving him already, and how throughout all that weepiness she is still that hardcore leader of WOC who can jump on roof and assemble the team to rescue her King! And how much do I love that she is perfect match for him- who else should Jae Ha marry but the intelligent woman who can protect HIM? And how he looks up to HER (yeah how many times did she show him he can't mess with her?)
And how much do I love how flustered Jae Shin can get Batman? Thats a romance I cant wait to happen.

On their chemistry-really?9 years?? Who'd even guess? They look so well matched! Such equals! and his hands- the veins...so sexy...! (ok did I say Im an ahjumma- this is totally embarrassing)

And I can't predict whats happening..about half way now and whats going to happen is anyone's guess..is the romance going to be rocked ? is JohnImtotally Insane Mayer going to bomb the palace? Kidnap Queen Mother?? Im on the edge of myseat and totally igoring my family, for this.!

I think the word right there, MANLY, describes LSG / Jae Ha's attraction to me. He just feels like a MAN. Yes, he might be cowered sometimes. He might hide and protect his own skin when in danger. But he's giving off that guy thing, that take-charge guts, that I-want-you assertiveness, omg, so hot. And all those are coupled with the purest, most sincere smile and the deep, sexy voice! I've been spending my whole day pre-occupied with this drama. Even at work. I've never gone in the internet while working but this drama change that. What am I going to do when the drama is over.I hope they would have the video available soon and the Ost- perfect.I'm a SEGA fan and I think I would have withdrawal syndrome. When he's standing up to Bong Gu or telling Cruella not to underestimate him...when he has the confidence that goes with his intelligence and his pride in his family, he is a man, 100%, and oh, how I love him then. He's not loud, he's not cocky, he's not violent. He's just confident and sure, and when he's angry...a little intimidating. That subtle threat, the hint of danger in his stillness - he's done it with Bong Gu, he's done it with the NK PM, he's done it with his own PM - it's extremely effective. And since it seems SO out of character for uri Puppy himself...I'm impressed that he gets it SO right acting as Jae Ha. Or maybe the nation's favorite son has always been more of a man than people realized.

After catching him on 1N2D I googled him and have read only good things about the guy. He's currently pursuing his master's (one nerd likes another!!), soo earnest, hardworking (for Brilliant Legacy he memorized his co-star's lines to help him perform better....like, whaaaaat?!!), a genuine friend (he gifted IU a bracelet when she guested for his concert, bought Ji-won $600 sneakers, despite being the maknae he'd buy meals for the 1N2D crew), and ETC!!

I remember during those visitor's specials on 1N2D: he cried listening to the ahjumma's stories (aww) and the following morning 5-6 ahjummas surround him and wake him up AT.THE.SAME.TIME....after being full oriented the first thing he asks is: "Did you sleep well?!!" Like, are you serious?! hahaaa

Eh..i swear this is the last comment..hehe

For those who wonder why Sec Eun is ruling Jae Ha rather than the other way round- he's not a real King, thats why. As a citizen of a country with constitutional monarchy , I totally get why the king cannot make any political statement and isreally a puppet ...although he represents the dignity of the nation and an insult to him would be an insult to the country. So much though jae ha wants to protest his every movement is monitored and ruled by Sec Eun.. Just wish they make Sec Eun a hottie instead of an old guy so I dont at least hate him that much

I dont know how Jae Shin having her memory back would help much actually..Bong Goo basically confessed and nothing can be done, what would Jae Shin remembering that it was indeed Bong Goo , add to it? Everyone knows, but no one can do anything...

I cant wait for Jae Ha to over come Bong Goo (of course, with his Queen on the side)

As for the manliness- is this guy only 25?? he is definitely a Man. and i dont blame Jiwon if she gets carried away by this guy's adoration of her..he is kinda hot. *yes i am blushing.

About Jae Shin's memory, I have a bit of a theory about that actually.

There was quite a bit of time in between when Jae Shin was caught by the assassins at the cabin and when she jumped off the cliff. Enough time for it to get dark at least. We didn't get a look at anything that happened during that time. I wonder if there's something we didn't see that might lend the investigation more information.

Perhaps we'll see new scenes from her memory that we haven't seen before just like we got new shots of King Jae Kang in Jae Ha's memory and the video diaries.

Just some idle speculation...

Required fields are marked *

Ooh, I really like this theory. I do feel like they've established Jae-shin's memory loss as such a big deal that there's no way it could end up just being an issue of her not remembering goth assassin chick on the rest of Bong-gu's crew. Because the fact that Bong-gu was involved is pretty much known to all at this point.

I wonder if Jae Shin discovered Secretary Eun's involvement? Or what else it could be?

0

Required fields are marked *

Bong-gu involvement is known but they do not have enough evidence to really pin it on him. Jae Shin needs to recover her memory so that she can testify seeing Bon Bon the assassin chick and two others at the location. But again lunatic Bong-gu probably have enough money to throw around to make sure that Bon Bon does not trace back to him... *sigh* They better make sure that they can get rid of Bong-gu and his minions for good.

However, if you like those qualities, i suggest you STOP WHAT YOU'RE DOING, and start watching ASAP. ;)

WHY is the beautiful cinematography freaking topping off everything for me? THIS MOOD is just totally sucking me into an already inescapable vortex of K2h addiction.

To have every drama shot as beautifully as K2h

I agree with you... the cinematography is one of the strength of this drama. Even the angle and the way the HA-leaving-JH-after-saving-him-on-the-merry-go-round scene was beautifully shot... I mean even that part is beautiful already, not to mention the proposal scene.

okay, I guess I just can't stop: but I keep replaying the scene where JH's in his mission with the lunatic Bong-gu's lover Tara, the part where JH said: me too. Why is that guy so damn hot? I mean, the way he said "me too" was just... captured me *somebody pleeeease stop me!*

OMG the one flaw about this drama is the portrayal of lack of bodyguards.
I mean, seriously. seems like the royal family is so easy to get to.
You'd think after the death of the king/queent they'd increase bodyguards by 10 times for Jae Ha and Hang Ah -_-
i mean you never know, better to be safe than sorry.
I'm just going to overlook it and say that it's to get the plot moving. But still, LOL. make it hard for these villains, gahdammit

Something else I really enjoy is the way that they portray Jae Ha getting really scared with trembling hands and all (this episode, that previous conversation with Bong-gu and in episode 4 when he thinks that the North Koreans are going to kill him), yet he never lets his opponents see that fear and manages to go on deliver some really kick-ass speech.

0

Required fields are marked *

Agree! No matter how scared JH is, he always manages to keep his wits. Which is all the more telling how deeply his emotions are affected by HA, because the two times when he loses it and makes a rash move (i.e., shooting her then telling her to go back to the north) - it's made with HA and not Bong Gu.

Required fields are marked *

I agree with you so much. :)

I know a lot of people were upset that he shot Hang Ah and I read one comment that even said it was sexist of him because he shot the only female person on the team. Hmm...I won't go into detail on that but suffice it to say I completely disagree. Like you, I think he shot her because he felt that she was the one who betrayed him the most.

When they exited the building and saw the bright lights, they way Jae Ha immediately turned to Hang Ah and said "Until the end..." with tears of anger in his eyes was so moving for me.

Though the scene was terrible and shocking because, well, he shot her in the chest, it was also extremely telling that the seeming betrayal that hurt the most was Hang Ah's.

His emotions in that scene (the tears in his eyes are the waver in his voice) were so beautifully conveyed!

You're so right about this. I haven't even thought about it but now that you've mentioned it, it's like what he said in an earlier episode about trusting her so much that he'll have to kill her if he found out that HA was even remotely involved in JK's murder.

Just love this forum. Helps make the drama even more meaningful...like I need anymore help being addicted to it!

Really good points all around. Hang-ah definitely gets under Jae-ha's skin like nobody else does/can (and vice versa). What I love about Jae-ha is that he constantly learns from his mistakes, and recognizes them almost instantly after he commits them (often with a little help from his awesome family). Not only that, but he's 100% willing to admit that he's wrong and accept the consequences. Our king's no coward, that's for sure. There's nothing hotter than a man secure enough to admit to his mistakes.

0

Right about that!

It was frustrating that he was so silent when he met HA again and she was doing all the talking and he couldn't manage to say anything useful. I think it's mainly because he really feels so much for her. He could tell Secretary Eun, his sister, even the nation about his love for her, but once he saw her, he clammed up.

@bike:
I'm not watch it with sub (yet), but I have watch it RAW and had rewatch it over and over again, I'm sure the word is 'SARAM'(people) ^^

Plus, I think the 'saram' will hurt Bong Gu more than a simple love, you know Jae Ha, he tend to mock people until the lowest point he can ㅋㅋㅋ~

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

I'm pretty sure it's "Saram", they sound really similar, but looking at hearing it a couple of times and looking at him saying it, I think it's the former.

Besides, I think "people" suits the context better because JH has HangAh, Batman and all the people who love him, while all the people whom Bong-gu has are people who he has to pay to be around him. Pretty sad when you think about it.

0
1
reply

Required fields are marked *

Totally agree.
I think the word people better suits the context..and it hurts Bong gu way more than 'love'.
If you think about it, a man needs his backup to help him, and support is eventually what will allow our jae ha to overcome obstacles and ultimately defeat Bonggu.
All bonggu really has is money, and yes, he has his henchman, but they're all really in it for money or because they were threatened.
If you don't have your people, then you are nothing.
No one believes in you and ultimately you are the one standing alone when it comes to the battlefield.
I think the writing in this drama is so clever in this way, and it is definitely 'saram' not 'sarang'. =)

I watched this episode live on Thursday and re-watched it 3 times already. I'm sure that I've heard "saram" not "sarang".

Today, I watched the English-subbed and was surprised as they translated it to "love" not "people". I believe this is a translation error.

0

Required fields are marked *

I think either would work and hurt. I saw "people" here in the recap and "love" on DF eng subs. The fact that people surrounding Bong Gu have to be paid to be there also works. And the love of a woman is non-existent which might have something to do with the bar scene and Tara.

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

I rewatched the scene a number of times and it is definitely "saram" not "sarang." At the end of the word his lips come together, unlike when you say "sarang." Besides, I think Bong gu could care less about love, but he likes to show off and wants to be the king of Korea, so to tell him that he lacks people is a bigger blow. Also it's less cheesy. hee.

I felt that it's meant to be a parody of Kim Bong Gu cause Jae Ha is meeting his girl. Jae Ha was in black suits and shoes all the time until this scene. If it is I salute the writers and PD.

0

Required fields are marked *

Oh now that you mentioned it, I think the same way too. BG always wears bright suits, and seems like his favorite color is white. Isn't it smart touch from the writer (if it is) that our hero almost always wears black suits and our villain is almost always in white. Such a contrary. JH looks like a playful manboy from the outside but is actually smart and tough from the inside (JH - the hero - in black), while BG is the vice versa (BG - the villain - in white). Or it's a symbol which means that our hero is actually really smarter and crazier than BG, and BG is actually like a kid who knows little. And that's what we see so far, our hero is more genius than that loony guy.

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

You are just so smart to find out that. Maybe based on information Jae Ha collected, the girl likes man in white? So Bong Gu is wearing white always, and when Jae Ha met her, he did it on purpose to wear white suits. :) Forgive me, it is just a joke.

True. Bong gu is always sporting outrageous clothes, so maybe Jae ha was trying to look a little like him. lol. But I have to say, he still looked much better than Bong gu. The scene when Bong gu was trying to open the box, I was so distracted my his bright orange pants and purple shirt. lol

I actually watched that scene through my hands, that seduction outfit was so cringey. Don't evil bastard's girlfriends appreciate men looking hot in good suits?? This show says no.

"and thus, I discovered that Korea, for a small country, has the highest ratio of insanely attractive men... Ever"
- so true! swoon-worthy and they are really good actors (most if not all).

I'm currently living in Southern California and I'm shameless to say that I'm a kdrama addict.

One Friday night last October, I was looking for something new to watch on Netflix when I came across City Hunter. I saw there were 5 stars on the rating so I was like, what's this? Watched it for a good 30 minutes and decided I didn't like it so I stopped. Then I saw My Princess and decided to watch that. And that, was what started it all. I watched it straight and then went back to City Hunter to give it another chance. Waaahhh! It's even better! (so obsessed with lee min ho at that time that I even downloaded an LMH app on my phone - i know . . . the stupid things we do.)

I watched those 2 dramas straight back to back, only going out of my room for a bathroom break and to get food. I was an anti-social for about 3 months after that :)

Chanced upon Dramabeans when I was looking for any news about City Hunter and this site totally fed my kdrama addiction. It opened a whole new highway to my kdrama love.

So thank you to the woderful people at Dramabeans. I'll be forever indebted to you.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this but I thought it was great of the writers to use the Tom and Jerry analogy in this episode. If anyone recalls, Tom and Jerry was also a mind game. Tom (Bong gu) and Jerry (Jae-Ha) was always fighting and Jerry , although smaller always outwitted Tom. Also, Jae-Ha as I recalled taunted Bong-gu by saying that he wrote on the window " I am Tom" . Just my 2 cents if it makes any sense. Please excuse my writing. I am new to posting anything. Was rewatching Ep 12 for the nth time and just dawned on me and needed to tell someone. Lol going crazy here.

I love the analogies used in this drama...totally gets me to think more about this drama. ya, like that's even possible! yunno, those brain diagrams that Koreans love...I'd say currently, 95% of my gray matter = LEE SEUNG-GI, 5% = TK2H!! (ok, so I was wrong...it's more LSG than the drama)

His proposal: JH ties in the revenge with the previous revenge he discussed with DH he'd seek from HA. Also, JoAnee unni mentioned earlier that him inquiring if she liked SK (during the proposal) was a throw back to when he first realized his feelings for her (during the snow fight) and the cherry blossoms were subbed for the snow!!

Somebody mentioned that there's some blog that discussed the reasons why the author liked this drama. And, one of the reasons was the analogy to the 60 yrs of separation b/w the two countries and the 60 miles(?) JH had to run to redeem himself!!

How lovely, right?!! TK2H I luff/wub/<3 YOU for being cerebral and not mere fluff!!

yes, the writers in this drama are very cerebral and you can tell the longing of a peaceful nation for them.
which i'm glad because it's not all about swoony romance at all but very deep layers are carefully strewn all over the drama.

and like you guys said about tom and jerry that's part of it.

vastly different and i guess we'll never see another drama about north and south korea that so respectfully touches issues that i guess won't be resolve for another decades but yet is so genuinely hopeful.

OMG Yunee, excellent point!
I wouldn't have thought of that myself!
He did taunt him with the whole "I am Tom" that makes sense now! I thought they were just using some random english name.
And then we see the Tom and Jerry connection.
I swear to god it's the little things like these that this writer includes that can easily go undetected if not carefully observing.
I love how although tom seems to be the bigger one, jerry is always the one to be one-upping him.
LOVE LOVE.

Dear, i do some googling about Tom and Jerry in north Korea, since..you know writer of the show is so witty, we don't know what surprise we'll meet next?

And I stumbled upon this:
http://www.openingupnorthkorea.com/archives/184

cited that article: 'North Korea use Tom as an analogy for the brash USA while Jerry represents a clever underdog North Korea'. Plus, Shi Kyung said (based on dramafever subs) in North korea it's aired as 'Foolish cat and witty mouse'. Sorta propaganda I thought?

Don't you think the writer really witty?

Oh yea, wanna add something.
I just googled about 'carousel north korea', but maybe someone can give us better explanation. Why do I stumbled upon articled that used carousel at the title, but actually means South Korea in the article body? Is it some kind of symbolization too?

Great analysis. There's so much more to what's being said. I'm definitely going to rewatch this as soon as its over to see if I pick up anything I might have missed.

I was totally picturing Jae Ha sticking his fingers in ears with fingers waving while sticking his tongue out at BG just like Jerry always did to Tom. It usually caused Tom to go crazy just like this episode during the carousel.I loved it:-) you go JH. Dang I watched too much Tom and Jerry as a child.

@reglest I tried researching why carousel was synonymous to SK also but couldn't find anything but does make me
scratch my head ...hmmm.

Gosh I love love love this drama!!!

What a great observation! I love how this drama is so layered and how there are very human characters on both north and south sides; not just caricactures (with exception of Bong Gu).

I really want them to release it.
I love in particular the goosebump worthy instrumental as Hang Ah is getting suited up.

The placement of songs is so apt as well! After the proposal when he stands and Taeyeon's song's played: I was like "SHIEEEET, I'm DEAD MEAT!!" My heart rate went on overdrive...

SNSD Taeyeon - Missing You Like Crazy Lyrics (English)

Don't you know me? The reason I'm here is because of you But my eyes tingle with the cold so I can't say anything I just look toward you by myself

Even if the tip of my heart hurts like this Even if the tip of my hands tremble like this I can only think of you

The person I miss like crazy The words I want to hear from you like crazy I love you, I love you - where are you? The person I long for, who is deeply stuck in my heart

I want to cherish you forever

What do I do? You were so cold to me But I still miss you

Even if the tip of my heart hurts like this Even if the tip of my hands tremble like this I still can't forget you

The person I miss like crazy The words I want to hear from you like crazy I love you, I love you - where are you? The person I long for, who is deeply stuck in my heart

Please tell me that you cherish me Please don't blankly erase me Because you're my everything

The person I miss like crazy The words I want to hear from you like crazy I love you, I love you - where are you? The person I long for, who is deeply stuck in my heart

I want to cherish you forever I love you, I love you

i LOVE the instrumentals ..... can't wait for all OSTs to come out. I hope our Seung gi will provide something too.
That would be cherry on top. :)

merci beaucoup, fellow Canuck!! :D

yeah, was right....it's a good thing didn't know the meaning when the proposal happened...

YUP. i love how every beat goes so well with the scene -- makes it so climatic!
(ex: bong gu realizes the word, and the music is so awesome during that moment too.)

I love Taeyeon's song! I think that's the loveliest piece in the soundtrack.

"Love is crying" is great as well, though it doesn't grab me like Taeyeon's song does.

I'm secretly hoping LSG will record at least one song for the OST. I loved the ones he did for Gumiho!

OMG can you just imagine seunggi singing a song for the OST?
That song i bet would top all songs on music chart and everyone would be replaying it over and over again ...
Like that one time Hyun Bin sang "that woman"

@ ilikemangoes:

girl, don't even!!! If and/or when this happens imma collapse in a heap of very unlady-like fangirl moans and sobs....

Despite this, still prays feverishly that SHOW makes it happen....

Honestly, i was so pleasantly surprised (not a k-pop fanatic, so i dont know much about it, sorry )
that taeyeon's voice sooo nicely pops with emotion. She sung it FOR the characters and truly through Hang AH's eyes.. and the moment you are able to evoke such emotion into the scene and audience, kudos.. you've become one of the queens of OSTS for me.
I know Baek Ji Young and K.Will have always been one of my long all-time favorites.

Yea, the "I Love You From Now On' song, it's such a secret project (and I'm truly hope he'll do it again)

for the appearance of this song in MGIG:
There is cut for that scene (I don't watch it live at the time) but the cut already spread, when I heard it I'm like: "Huh? This song isn't in OST", and "It sounds like Seung Gi, pretty much", and when it's "Saranghae~" i'm like: asdfghkjllytrkrsdd!! SBS, how could you not including this in full OST?? This is the greatest one!

OMGGG reglest!!
you brought back SUCH good memories.
I LOVED that song. esp when he just totally erupted out with the whole ' SARANGHAEEE' i totally fell in love.
i remember those mgig days.. i would continually listen to that song.

Hi Reglest and Mangoes!

I'm totally in love with that song. I've been listening to the soundtrack and watching MGIG again.

I think K2H has once again renewed my love for all things Seunggi.

I'll continue to cross my fingers that Seunggi gets to do a ballad for K2H. I know K.Will's song is supposed to be Jaeha's theme while the Taeyeon song is Hangah's theme, but Seunggi should totally do another ballad!

0

seriously emmy.

If seung gi can do atleast ONE song for ost i'd be giddy as can be and all up on the song.

0

Actually when he stood up to hug her, the lyrics from JH's theme song was running through my head: If you want to cry, cry in my arms.

Love all the OSTs!
