I’ve missed Eun Ji-won so dearly since his departure from hit variety show 1 Night 2 Days, but perhaps it won’t be long before he’s back on my to-watch roster again. On top of joining four variety shows as a regular, he’s added a new sitcom to his slate, and wait for it… IT’S SET IN THE 90s. Awwwww yeah. The clothes? The music? The pop references to 90s idol self? I’m so in.
It’s called Answer to 1997 (or more literally, Answer me 1997, which makes less sense), though reportedly the title’s not fixed yet. It’s set to air on cable network tvN this summer, and so far the cast includes contemporary idols (Where are the other 90s idols?) — Seo In-guk, A Pink’s Jung Eun-ji, and Infinite’s Hoya. There’s at least one actor I recognize: Sung Dong-il, supporting actor in every movie/drama ever, and one of the guests on 1N2D’s Supporting Actors Special.
There’s not much information yet about the story, just that it’s set in the 90s. I’m guessing that with so many singers, it’s about the early idol set, of whom Eun Ji-won is now one of the more recognized/remembered stars. Now I’m thinking Yoon Kye-sang’s sitcom run was wasted on High Kick. He could’ve played himself on this show!
Eun Ji-won really could play a thinly-veiled version of himself, which would be so awesome. Don’t believe me that he could? Take a look at him during his Sechs Kies days in the shot below. Hasn’t aged a day, right? They should get Tony Ahn to play his rival, whatever the character is. Like even if they were rival shop owners on a street corner, everything could be an H.O.T./Sechs Kies meta joke, and devolve into a dance-off. It just writes itself, I tell you.

Eun Ji Won cracks me up, and add Hoya to the mix? I have zero expectations of what his acting may be like, but he is one of the members in Infinite I like the most so I am definitely intrigued. Plus, his smile/laugh is so damn beautiful. *fangirl moment*

Kinda worried for Hoya, I mean Myungsoo (L) did fairly good in SUFBB but I don’t think I’ve ever seen Hoya act. He is, on the other hand, a seriously good dancer so maybe they’ll incorporate that.
But 90′s style dance, clothes, hair? Oh yes. Plus Eun Ji-won is awesomely awesome.
There were times when Myungsoo was utterly painful to watch and other times when I squee’d in the cuteness. Hopefully Hoya will induce less of the former and more of the latter in me.
Hoya does have mad dance skills so I hope they include that, too!

Oh God, this brought me back to an episode of 1N2D where they showed a scene of Ji-won’s first acting job (he used to say in the past that he wanted to try acting and evil PD managed to score the VTR). Ji-won was cringing throughout. I love it!
Hee…I remember that as well. I caught a snippet of another variety show where they played a longer clip for him and he was so embarassed. Truthfully, as much as I heart him, and as adorable as he is, he can just stand there smiling and I’d be happy.
lol. That was funny. His acting was so stiff. But I can bet he’s grown…look at all the times he acted and fooled the PDs and cast on 1N2D.
Still, even if he just stands there, like you said…I’d be happy.

I miss Eun Jiwon (love love love him! He was my favorite of the remaining cast of Season 1), but we’ve seen his old clips of when he was a drama/movie and even he said “It was like I was reading from a textbook”. Hahahaha. Maybe with age comes improved skills? Who knows, but it’d be fun to see. But seriously, can we just get a whole lot of 90s idols and see what they can do here? Some of them really haven’t aged much. XD

I’m a Inspirit, and I have never actually seen Hoya show any interest in acting. He’s far more of a dancer, though it would be wicked awesome to see him if they incorporated his skills. Though then again, I would watch any TV drama with any of the Infinite members, so I look forward to this regardless ^^
