One Big love triangle…sort of

Is it a love triangle if it’s the soul of one guy trapped in the body of another? I’m not sure if that makes it more of a love rhombus, or just one really confused accidental two-timer, but Big just might be one of the rare Hong sisters dramas that has an interestingly complex love square that isn’t just filled out by your standard daddy long legs and annoying first love, here to fulfill their second-lead meddling quotient.
The show’s poster shoots are playing up the ambiguity in a great way, with a grown-up Gong Yoo dressed with one foot in adulthood and the other in kindergarten. I especially love the teenage version below. So nerdy. So cute. So potentially aggravating.
Lee Min-jung plays the 30-year old guy’s fiancée who happens to also be the 18-year old boy’s teacher. And Suzy plays the 18-year old’s girlfriend. HA. I thought she was just the crush, but that makes it even better. I’m already confused by all the possibilities — so the love triangle pictured above is Body’s girlfriend vs. Soul’s girlfriend? And they have equal claim?
And to further complicate things, are we rooting for the pairings to play true to body or soul? It’s a squicky dilemma, no matter which way you go. I love that it spins ALL the relationships into confusion equally, and keeps us on ice too. That’s what I call a good setup.
Big premieres June 4 on KBS.

maybe it's because her character. I guess she'll become the haughty & bossy 18year old girlfriend.
though she still lack in acting but I love her, she's sincere, just like JYP said, “My kids may be lacking in some areas but they’re never unnatural.”

I actually liked Suzy's acting in Dream High. It wasn't amazing but it wasn't downright horrible either. And according to Kim Soo Hyun, Suzy's acting improved in Introduction to Architecture

I agree! Heard she was good in Intro to Architecture too. And people should just remember this is a Hong sisters drama - their second female leads' purpose is to be pretty, and annoying. I hope people don't confuse a 2-dimensionally written character with bad acting.

Not that I watched much of "Dream High", but Suzy's acting was a bit stiff and it didn't help that her character was a bit cold/aloof.
As already stated, her acting in "Intro to Architecture" noticeably improved.
Didn't get the appeal of Suzy from what I watched of DH (her hairstyle didn't exactly help either), but after seeing her in other things, now I get all the hoopla over Suzy.
These posters shots for "Big" are hilarious, esp. Gong Yoo's expressions.

I am not a Suzy hater, I like the girl as singer, as a person, how could I not like her if I don't know her!
I am just voicing my thoughts, she was not that good in DH!
Maybe she improved, I really hope so, for her (since she seems to have haters...) and the drama sake!

I actually watched her movie Introduction to Architecture...her character didn't require that much 'acting' but her last 2 scene's that did require her to play out the role of confusion mixed with fear and to anticipation, heartbreak and acceptance was very well done. She had a very subtle acting style that I quiet like.
I never found her acting in Dream High to be perfect but she wasn't as bad as people were claiming. I mean her character had the greatest span of growth. Almost everything that happened in Dream High was to shape Hye Mi the character, Suzy wasn't the best and didn't capture her character to the full in some critical scenes but the rest was done well enough.
Now that I've gotten that off my chest...^_^
I wished they would release the poster for the other cast. I love Gong Yoo, okay with both Suzy and Lee Ming Jung but I would really like to see the two younger boys. I'm a bit iffy they haven't released any information about them.

Agreed. Suzy wasn't THAT bad as Hye Mi, but it could've been so much better. I've always imagined how it would be if it was another (better) actress.
Since she was the lead character, the audience was supposed to root for her, right? But it was Eun Jung's character and its growth that crushed my heart into pieces and made me cry in the last few episodes.
Anyway, I'd like to see how she improved in Introduction to Architecture and now, Big. I hope all these hype about her these days are not just... hype. :)

And yes... I think this will be an epic love square as none of the leads are gonna be completely evil? RIGHT???

And the poses. Lee Min Jung looks more like the insecure one while Suzy looks like the confident one.
Maybe it's the ladies' kind of switch - LMJ plays the adult one, but is full of insecurities and/or childish, while Suzy plays the teenager who's eager to grow up and acts all refined. Young soul in grown-up body vs. old soul in young one. And then their universe tries to sort out the mismatch by... switching the souls of the boyfriends? >_<
I say, I'll wait for the pilot episode before thinking of any more theories.

Following the press release, and the teasers, Lee Min Jung plays a childish and air headed teacher...I'm not too keen on this type of character, I mostly find them annoying and just want to tell them to grow up!
Suzy plays the more proud and aggressive 18 year old ex girlfriend who is trying to hunt down her ex. She looked very 'in your face' from the 3rd teaser. I'm thinking Hye Mi from Dream High without the growth.
Is it right that I already find both female characters annoying?

Well, to each her own. But I say give the girls a chance. We might find them charming even for a bit when the series starts. If none works out, there's always Gong Yoo to watch. ;)

I feel like the other body may be in a coma from that accident that causes the switch. So 3o yr old Gong Yoo is trapped in comatose 18 yr old body *tears*. It would also explain the hilarious reveal of that deceased old man in the hospital. BUT who knows.

Oh that explains a lot! Here I was thinking that in a lot of the trio shots (especially the one at the start of the first promo) Lee Min-jung had the disgruntled expression of the evil second lead. That's because she's in that position!! Normally a woman who hangs onto a guy just because he looks like (or in the actual body of) her lost love is clearly in the wrong, because it's always soul winning out over body. It's going to be interesting seeing how this develops, because I'm betting it's only going to be like that on the surface and once we get into it, our OTP is going to show why they are the rightful OTP.

Think about how straight she can play. I remember her doing irony well. You know no matter what character is in GY's (gorgeous) body, he will be trying to tease her out of being serious.

The Hong sisters are taking their man-child character to the extreme!
BUT, dramawiki says:
"The mind of 18 year old Kang Kyung Joon somehow gets trapped in the body of 30 year old Seo Yoon Jae, who just happens to be Kyung Joon's future brother-in-law."
Is this accurate because that means her brother's soul gets into her fiances body. Umm....faux-cest-ish?

I would never wear them of course. Not only do they totally not fit into my sense of style...but... the bow would untie, I'd trip over the ribbon, twist my ankle and somehow manage to impale myself on the heel. But, on Suzy, they work!

They look appealing, for some odd reason, but they can't be farther from my style.
I'm also really klutzy, so I'd be flapping my arms around to retain balance while hoping that the ribbons don't come undone and make me slip to my doom and a facefull of concrete sidewalk (or if you prefer, asphalt).

I am confused about this drama.. It's not like they just know each other or have a crush, but all the relationships are already established. I'm curious how its gonna work out. I don't think they are gonna switch couples... it's definetly gonna be confusing... but fun times, hopefully.

Everybody talking about Suzy but I root for LMJ. Not that I think Suzy is a bad actor, she is just a rookie actor sharpening her skills everyday. She is fun and if she is just like she was in running man I love her char even more ^^
I hope we can have another coffee house where the rooting for both parties continue till the end. Why do we need a hateful char? The setup is complicated enough to provide the twists in the plot.
Please at least this time let my wishes come true. I just want a Kdrama that is not a Kdrama... LOL^^

Is this going to be like 49 Days, where in the drama... it turns out that 18 year old character is the real protagonist of the story... and the star actor's character just has a sub plot? You guys know what I mean, right? In 49 Days, Nam GyuRi's character was basically the main character of the story while Lee Yo Won got most of the screen time and top billing. I'm just assuming that Baek Sung Hyun's character is the main character, but Gong Yoo is the one getting the screen time and top billing

They're thicker than Suzy's but in no way are they bad legs, imo? I think sometimes skinny celebs and photoshop has disturbed our image of what average legs actually look like, in the same way that the same has made us believe that any teeth less blindingly white than a Hollywood toilet bowl are yellow and unhygienic.

I'm curious to see how this goes. When the Hong sisters redid Overboard, they basically stuck to the original story, with added juice. But this veers far off course from the original Big. Also, the ending of Tom Hank's Big is so ... unconventional for a romcom that I don't know how it will mesh with the Hong Magic Recipe. And I agree that I want to know how the 30-yo-in-a-teenagers-body is going to react to the situation.

This drama has very talented actors and writers so I am going to assume it will be good. But Suzy is 17 years old. Does it bother nobody else that her dress is that short? I know that sex sells and I'm not trying to be a prude, but I don't know why the stylists thought that that would be appropriate.

It does sound like a good setup for our protagonists ^_^ Can't wait for a compelling love triangle (rhombus?) from a Hong sisters drama. Normally their compelling main pairings are part of their dramas' charm, but I'll be glad if they switch things up.

OH eM GEE..
i mean...this is perfect. :) after my broken heart (AHEM EARNEST BOT), this is the perfect drama to go to. i realllllly have this kind of crush on gong yoo..ever since coffee prince, and MAN oh MAN, lee min jung has always been one of my favorite female actresses.
as for suzy, i'm a little iffy on her acting, but i'm sure she'll pull through because now, she's got experience. she may not be as up to par as the other actors, but its understandable because she debuted as a singer. i'm looking forward to her acting though, she's one of my favorites in miss A ;)

I'm not totally on board with this one yet; if the soul is Suzy's boyfriend then I supporting her all the way. A person body is use as a vessel to carry ones soul. You are who you are; nothing changes because you have a different body. I think their going to make Suzy’s love one sided, or that he wasn’t all in from the beginning to make this work!
