The King 2 Hearts: Episode 16

Awwww yeah! We’re back, baby. Now THIS is the show I know and love. Bring in da stakes, bring in da tears, and let’s get down to business. Betrayal hits like a ton of bricks, but it feels like being dusted with powdered sugar compared to what’s around the bend…

EPISODE 16 RECAP

Secretary Eun sneaks away from the engagement to take a call from Bong-gu’s minion. He offers a choice: Jae-ha abdicates the throne peacefully, or he will be removed by force. Otherwise, Shi-kyung gets told about his daddy’s extracurricular misdeeds.

Uh… I’m thinking the asking price is a little low there. Sigh. Minions. Though on the flipside, Eun is the man who sold out the last king’s whereabouts for an LP, so… even stevens?

Secretary Eun tells him to go ahead and tell Shi-kyung whatever he wants to, because he is no longer going to listen to any threats from the likes of them. Well now. Look who graduated from amoeba in the final stretch. Now, would it have killed you to grow this backbone like three fatal mistakes ago?

Minion takes that as Door Number Two, and drops his voice, “There will be blood,” like he’s been waiting his whole minion life to say that line. At the same moment, Jae-ha and Hang-ah toast (With red wine? Really?) and the clink sends her glass shattering. The Wine of Portent splatters on her white dress.

She frets, but he smiles and tells her that it’ll all make for lasting memories. They walk through the crowd and wave, and then some kind soul chants, “Kiss! Kiss!” and soon the whole crowd joins in.

Jae-ha side-eyes Hang-ah, and then spins to face her, and pulls her in for a kiss. Gah, the all-the-way-around-arm-wrapping just does me in.

The parents watch with embarrassed but adorably happy smiles.

That night, Secretary Eun calls Shi-kyung out for a chat. He asks how the Anmyundo investigation is going, and Shi-kyung says he’s going to be back on the case now that the engagement is over.

Dad lets out a long contemplative sigh, and starts to say it… but can’t quite get the words out. He just says that it’ll be over soon. Shi-kyung looks at him, confused.

Dad then goes to his office and writes his resignation. It details all of his nefarious exchanges with Club M, leaving nothing out. He takes one long look at his office of over thirty years, and then walks through the memorial hall of all the kings he’s served. He stops at Jae-kang’s portrait, “Do not forgive me, your majesty.” He bows down to the ground.

Jae-ha and Hang-ah discuss her picking up some of the queen mother’s charity events… while they get a couples massage? Ha. Okay, who’s brilliant idea was it to find some way to make Seung-gi’s cheeks look even more chipmunky? Hee.

Hang-ah suggests that maybe she could go to North Korea to do some of her charity work with a big smile, and Jae-ha tells her to have a good trip to the foreign country then. Heh.

But spa time gets cut short with an email from Club M. He goes to his desk to open it, and Hang-ah urges him to ignore it. He says it’s better to see what’s coming, even if it’s coming to explode all over them, which I’m all for. Let’s see it then.

He opens the email, filled with evidence that Secretary Eun sold out the Anmyundo location. Bollocks. HE’S JUST ABOUT TO TELL YOU HIMSELF! Aaaaaugh.

No matter how much I hate Cruella de Eun, I was all for him owning up to his crimes. He was so close! But I suppose you can’t expect the universe to be on your side if you wait till you’re backed into a corner before confessing.

The email has every bit of damning evidence – call logs between Eun and Bong-gu, Eun’s signature on clearing Bong-gu to enter the country, recordings of their phone calls.

Secretary Eun knocks on Jae-ha’s door and enters the office, prepared to hand in his resignation. But he walks in to hear a recording of the very call where he gave up the Anmyundo location.

Jae-ha just stares at him, blinking in disbelief. He finally asks blankly, “What is this?” Augh it kills me that he still wants ajusshi to say he didn’t do it. He asks if there was ever a time that he purposely conveyed lies between him and Hang-ah.

He says yes. Jae-ha asks, still disbelieving, if he was the one who changed Jae-shin’s entrance music at the conference. “You didn’t, right? You didn’t go that far, Ajusshi. Right?”

Still not raising his head, he says it’s true. Jae-ha looks up at him, stricken. He says that Anmyundo, he understands—it was a mistake, and he didn’t know who he was dealing with. But the rest… the rest…

Isn’t it just a twist of the knife to know that he would’ve been forgiven if he had come clean right away? But that’s the grave you dug for yourself, old man.

A tear streams down Jae-ha’s face as he continues to plead, “You were like family. Thirty years. Father chose you. Hyung trusted you. I leaned on you more than anyone. How could that Ajusshi…”

Ajusshi hands over his resignation, which just gets a scoff from Jae-ha. Quitting again? He says he’s not asking for forgiveness, and will take every punishment. Jae-ha makes it clear that he’ll be arrested and charged for his crimes.

Secretary Eun warns him to be careful of Club M, especially right now, and Jae-ha asks bitterly why—did he give them something else? He finally lets loose, screaming at the top of his lungs: “YOU ARE A TRAITOR!” Oof.

That’s what stings the most, of course, since he’s done all this while convincing himself that it was for the greater good. Jae-ha continues: “You committed high treason! Allowed foreign invasion! Aided and abetted an enemy of the state! YOU ARE A TRAITOR!”

Secretary Eun doesn’t deny any of it, and says he will accept the punishment for all his crimes. But he asks just one thing… Shi-kyung… Aaaauf. Don’t even get me started on the heartache you’re going to cause, old man.

He bows down to the ground on his hands and knees, and pleads with Jae-ha not to tell Shi-kyung (Well that’s just absurd—how will he be kept from finding out?). He says that Shi-kyung is an honest, upright man. He IS. And idealistic and hopeful too, and you’re about to fuck with that.

He says that he’ll tell Shi-kyung himself. Oh. Okay. At least you’re going to do that. Although I don’t see why you’re going to set yourself up for another circumstance exactly like this one by waiting. But then again, you’re not historically quick on the uptake.

The palace reels from the news in every corner. Shi-kyung comes to see Jae-ha and asks if it’s true that his father was dismissed. And despite his anger, Jae-ha keeps that promise to ajusshi—he pretends that he finally had enough of their personality differences and let him go.

Jae-ha says he’s old now and their paths are different. Shi-kyung argues for his father—that it’s different methods, not different paths, and that he served this monarchy for thirty years.

But Jae-ha cuts him off coldly, “He’s too old. He’s an old fogey. He smells foul and he’s stale.” Harsh words, but it effectively makes him the bad guy, and not Ajusshi.

Shi-kyung can’t believe the words coming out of his mouth. “Are you the king I know?” Jae-ha: “Why? Do you want to hit me?” And without hesitation, Shi-kyung answers, “Yes.” Omg, you two are gonna make me CRY. Stop it!

Jae-ha lets out a tightly-wound sigh, and tells Shi-kyung to take a vacation. He answers right away that he’ll be staying right by Jae-ha’s side (Thank goodness.) until he finds out exactly what happened between him and Dad. (Balls.)

Jae-ha yells after him, “Ya, Eun Shi-kyung!” but he storms out, having made up his mind. Thank goodness for your dogged trust, but I’m scared for you.

Hang-ah reads Secretary Eun’s letter of resignation. She says sympathetically that he must’ve had a hard time, and Jae-ha just agrees absently. She starts to make a case for forgiveness, but Jae-ha counters that Ajusshi used his trust against him, all this time.

Jae-ha: “I’m a person too. I need time.” Right? Hell, I still need time and I’ve known for weeks! She tells him to rest, and he says he’s got a million meetings to prep for, but she yanks the papers out of his hands and pats her lap.

She pulls him toward her and he lies down, head in her lap, and takes her hand. So sweet.

And then he wraps her hand tightly around him, in this gesture that kind of kills me—it’s the way a child tries to envelope himself in a mother’s arms for comfort, like it might be possible to make a monster-shielding blanket out of her embrace.

Hang-ah: “Are you scared?” Jae-ha: “Yes. Everything except you… I’m scared of. I don’t think I can trust people.” He shuts his eyes to stop the tears, and she leans on his shoulder.

Bong-gu sits at home, obsessively watching Jae-ha’s video letter for the millionth time, like the crazy stalker that he is. He even drunkenly answers, as if they’re having a conversation. HA. Anyway, he proceeds with The Plan.

Jae-shin is all gung-ho to scoop out her memories, but her therapist warns that she’s the one who locked them away, and forcing that back out could lead to panic. Yes, we’ve already been through the panic. Now it’s time to push through anyway, so get out your hypno-baubles, lady, and help a sister out!

She tries on her own to listen to “Ride of the Valkyries,” but it sends her reeling and she tears the headphones away. Shi-kyung comes by and she asks him not to resent oppa too much, because there must be a reason they don’t know about. Shi-kyung agrees, still trusting Jae-ha despite it all. Aw.

He asks if she’s not going to sing anymore, reminding her that she used to, all the time. She takes that as a cue to sing now, and he stammers awkwardly that he didn’t mean now. Ha. She tries to remember the song she first sang to him, but can’t recall it, so he helps her out.

He sings the first line, and his voice startles her, so she pretends not to know how the rest of it goes, and he ends up singing the first verse for her, as she plays along. She takes him downstairs where the acoustics are better and hands him a microphone, wanting to record him.

She says that if he does well she’ll debut him as a singer, and when he balks, she promises not as an idol. Heh. She asks if he wants to sing it as a duet then (Yes please!), but he refuses, and starts to walk out.

She asks if he hates her that much—she confessed her feelings, and she’s working so hard, but he won’t give her the time of day. He tells her that what she feels is curiosity and nothing more, because they’re so different.

He says that she’s right about him being no fun, and when she gets to know him, the shininess of the new toy will wear off, and she’ll be sick of him. She swears that’s not it, but he tells her to stop messing with him: “I don’t want to become a plaything.”

She says she’ll ask him one thing then: Is it because she’s disabled? He answers right away that it’s not that, he swears. She starts to cry as she supposes that even if it were, she couldn’t do anything about it.

She asks one final thing: She sang that song to him just once, so how did he remember it? Is he a genius? He says, voice trembling, that it’s because the princess sang it (aww), and walks out before she can ask any more questions.

Hang-ah heads to Somalia with the queen mother to do charity work, and Mom gives her a purse as a gift on the way. They get relocated to a different hotel because the place they had originally booked just got blown up in a terrorist attack. UM. Red flag, anyone?

Thankfully it’s enough of a red flag to send them back home in the morning, but they’re here for the night. The staffer heads down in the elevator, where she sees a woman with a strange tattoo…

Mom sighs that she really wanted to see one of the children who had barely made it last time, who lost his mother to tuberculosis.

Hang-ah says that her mother died of the same, because a penicillin shot cost as much as a kilogram of rice, and she could never afford it. She doesn’t say this with any heaviness—just matter-of-factly—adding that she and Dad moved to Pyongyang soon after, and there were plenty of vaccines.

Mom takes her hand and asks what kind of person her mother was. Hang-ah says she was so young so her memories are faded, but her mother was a translator, and would read her stories at night, like Gulliver’s Travels.

Mom says that Hyun-joo (Jae-kang’s wife) called her “mother,” and that here when a mother and daughter-in-law are close, they just become mom/daughter. She tells her to call her “mother” instead of “her majesty.” Aw.

Hang-ah lights up, and tries it out awkwardly. Mom laughs, “Minus the accent.” They hold hands and laugh.

But this is no time for laughter, because Mia and her band of assassins are already here, shooting their way down the hall. They take out the guards and knock on Mom’s door posing as room service.

But Mom’s no dummy—she would be escorted by secret service if everything was on the up and up, and she scrambles for the phone. But the lines have been cut. She runs to her cell phone, but before she can make a call, Mia’s standing right behind her with a smile.

One of the secret service manages with his last breath to pull the fire alarm, which sends a stampede through the lobby. It’s enough to make Hang-ah pause, and she comes out of the bathroom cautiously.

She comes out to find Mom sitting on the couch at gunpoint. Her eyes widen. But then I love how her look changes when another gun gets trained on her—she looks over at it like it’s a fly challenging her patience.

But clearly she can’t risk getting the queen mother killed in a hostage stand-off.

Shi-kyung wakes Jae-ha up in the middle of the night to deliver the bad news—both Hang-ah and Mom are missing. He tries calling her, to no avail. (I love that he’s saved her number as Hang-ahr-ie, turning her name into a homophone for “vase” but meaning “lovesick-for-Hang-ah.”)

Bon Bon pays her hired help, and then promptly shoots them in the back, for her hostages to see. Damn. Then they get loaded onto a plane.

Jae-ha gets briefed that there are no ransom demands, and the two accomplices have been killed. Shi-kyung says that another kidnapper was caught on film, but only from the back—she had a barcode tattoo.

He immediately remembers that detail from Shi-kyung’s investigation into Mia. Shi-kyung confirms that Club M is the likeliest suspect. Jae-ha realizes that Bong-gu is going after his people, one by one. And Bong-gu purposely ignores all his calls, wanting Jae-ha to fry a little longer.

Meanwhile Hang-ah and Mom get moved to one of Bong-gu’s lairs. Hang-ah eats diligently, and assures Mom that the food isn’t poisoned—if they wanted them dead, they’d be dead—and tells her that she has to do the same to keep up her strength if they’re going to escape. Nice.

But Mom is scared witless, and says that Hang-ah might be able to because she’s a soldier, but she’s too frightened to try. Hang-ah tells her they have to try something, anything, to help the king.

Bong-gu interrupts to make his grand entrance, and Hang-ah recognizes him right away. She puts out her hand, “Kim Bong-gu-shi.” Ha. I love it. He pretends not to be bothered by it and squarely ignores her, and she totally smirks.

He goes straight for Mom, asking her to join him for tea, and when Hang-ah objects, Mia hauls her away at gunpoint.

Hang-ah’s father has come down to help Jae-ha, and confirms the Club M suspicion. I’m so glad he’s here, if only so he can witness this next scene:

Jae-ha asks Shi-kyung if he’s still getting the runaround from Bong-gu. “Whatever it takes. You know, right? Tell them I’ll do everything. I can go there myself, or lie down and beg. I can do it.”

Dad looks up at him. Shi-kyung whispers a protest. Jae-ha: “It’s Hang-ah. Hang-ah and Mom. You know my mom. She won’t last.”

Mom is currently cowering in fear over tea with Bong-gu. He sits watching her for a while, and then calls her “mother,” like he really does think he and Jae-ha are friends.

He comes closer and says that she reminds him of his mom, though his mom abandoned him to run her bar, tossing him in boarding schools and expecting he’d grow up okay. But even Bong-gu knows that what he really craved was his mother’s love.

He says he really was a good kid, so she should feel sorry for him. Aw, Poor Widdle Psycho. There, there.

He gets to the heart of the matter: Mom should tell Jae-ha to give up the throne already. He oozes with compliments for how dignified she is, noting that his own mother was so different, so crude.

Finally Mom opens her mouth, “Crude? How can a child call his own mother crude?” Hahahaha. Are you in trouble now? Daebak. And it just gets better.

She totally chastises him like a child, for blaming his parents for his own flaws, for claming a rough childhood when most people who endure hardship are better for it. “I am Jae-kang-ie’s mom! The mother of the man you killed. Even if you paid for your crime and then knelt to beg for forgiveness, it would be lacking!”

But instead he’s holding her here, and for what—to use her as bait against Jae-ha? “Do I, does the royal family, seem that easy?” She stands up. Oooh nice. He stands up and sneers that he was trying to be nice, but she just blows up at him.

“Fine. Kill me. Go ahead and kill me. Kill me! Do you think my children will flinch at the likes of you?! I’M going to take revenge on you! For our Jae-kang, our Hyun-joo, our Jae-shin’s legs, our Hang-ah’s baby. Even if I fall into hell itself, I’m going to take you with me as I go!”

So. Badass. And then she HITS HIM, with her tiny mom fists. I LOVE IT.

She goes to town, letting loose a barrage of swears and insults, asking how his mother gave birth to such rotten trash like him and still ate seaweed soup, as she hits him over and over. See, Mom, you’re plenty strong. You just had to get in touch with your inner rage.

Jae-ha finally snaps that he can’t take it anymore, and decides to just storm over there himself. Shi-kyung pleads with him to stop—this is exactly what they want, for him to go crazy and out of control. He calms down and gives Shi-kyung ten more minutes to get him through to Bong-gu.

Secretary Eun has locked himself away at home, and hasn’t answered any of his son’s thousand calls. But he does see the text that Hang-ah and the queen mother have been kidnapped, and takes Jae-ha’s call.

Jae-ha says nothing—all he does is dial and then listen. But Secretary Eun humbly offers his advice: to use Bong-gu’s international influence against him. Basically if he alerts the U.S. and China of Bong-gu going off the deep end, it’ll cut him off from major powers, and he’ll have to back down. He advises that Jae-ha stay calm, cold, and rational, and act decisively.

Exposition Minion tells Bong-gu that Jae-ha’s gone through diplomatic channels and for some reason, the U.S. and China frown upon the kidnapping of royals. Who knew? Bong-gu sighs that Jae-ha’s gotten smart, and agrees to a meeting.

Jae-ha goes to see Bong-gu, who plays dumb about the whole kidnapping, even as Jae-ha offers to do whatever he asks if he just lets them go. He says he’ll postpone the wedding, and Bong-gu finally says that IF he had kidnapped them—purely hypothetically, of course—then a measly broken engagement wouldn’t be the right price, would it?

Jae-ha asks what would be. “Your resignation.” His eyes widen. Bong-gu blathers on about who would take his place then, ruling Jae-shin out in her condition, and mentioning a sixth cousin. “Isn’t politics not your kind of thing anyway? It’s dirty.”

He suggests with a smile that he should gather up his loved ones and go live on an island in comfort, and leave the politics to others. He walks off, leaving Jae-ha reeling.

Bong-gu walks out, smiling as he passes by Shi-kyung. Aw, it’s Cookies and his unrequited love. Shi-kyung runs in to check on Jae-ha, who spends the entire journey back in silence.

He washes his face and comes out of the bathroom to find Hang-ah just sitting there, waiting for him. The lighting changes as he comes upon her, so this has to be a dream. She comes closer, and they look at each other with such loving eyes, and he asks, “This is a dream, right?”

She cups his face in her hands, and he clasps onto her hands with tears in his eyes, hugging her in desperate relief.

But then he notices a strange expression on her face, and asks why. Hang-ah: “Take care to eat well. And don’t forget to exercise.” He starts to cry and asks what’s happening.

She just keeps going, “Every sadness is just for a time. Because it’ll all pass someday.” And then she takes his hand.

Suddenly Mom calls out for Hang-ah, and she goes to join her. He tries to hold on, but she pulls away from his grasp. And then he looks up and they’re gone.

He’s left screaming, “Mom! Hang-ah-ya! Mom! Hang-ah-ya!” it startles him awake in a cold sweat.

Bong-gu’s minion shows Hang-ah a video of Bon Bon playing bloodthirsty hairdresser with Mom, and tells her to persuade the king to comply with their demands.

Meanwhile Shi-kyung is trying to do the very opposite with a scared and desperate Jae-ha. He can’t abdicate the throne and play right into their hands! But Jae-ha’s last nerve has cracked, and he asks why not.

He breaks down, “What if they really kill Hang-ah and Mom? I’m not that strong a person.”

*whimper*

He says that he’s lasted this long on obstinate pride, but he can’t do it anymore. They’re going to die. “I didn’t even want to be king! Why do I have to hold onto this seat while Mom and Hang-ah die??”

Shi-kyung has no words to make it right. Jae-ha tells him he’s sorry, but he’s going to live comfortably now, intending to give it all up.

Hang-ah watches as Mia threatens Mom with all manner of torture, and finally caves. “I’ll convince the king… to resign.” Minion tells her he’ll set up the video, but Hang-ah turns to him with a scheming glint in her eye.

“I’ll do it in person. Don’t you think it’ll be more convincing face-to-face?”

COMMENTS

Yay for the return of life and death stakes and heroic moments for everyone. I just about lost it when Mom talked down to Bong-gu like a misbehaving child and then wailed on him with all her momness. It was So. Awesome.

Bong-gu really stepped it up as a villain in a big, big way, and I’m ecstatic about that, for the sake of the story. There’s been enough messing about and pulling hair and getting in little jabs on both sides. Time for the real fight.

And as much as Bong-gu has his fatal flaws, he really is brilliant as an adversary, because he’s managed to take away the one thing that gave Jae-ha his confidence—his trust in his people. Jae-ha taunts him with that one thing Bong-gu will never have, so he deals that blow to Secretary Eun. Which is really just aimed at Jae-ha, because it levels his sense of trust in his people. And then just when he clutches onto Hang-ah for dear life as the only person he can trust, Bong-gu yanks her away from his side.

I love that this episode is filled with shots of Jae-ha in the foreground with Shi-kyung standing behind him in the background. There’s no fanfare about it, but he’s just always there. It’s telling that of all people, it’s Shi-kyung he apologizes to, when he’s at the end of his rope and about to give up the throne. It’s like Shi-kyung’s trust is what gives that position any meaning. This episode had great moments for both couples—Shi-kyung’s accidental confession that he memorized every note of that song, and Jae-ha and Hang-ah getting to such a supportive, honest place—but it was the bromance that really did me in. When they had words over Dad and Jae-ha was trying to protect Shi-kyung by being the bad guy and Shi-kyung continued to trust him anyway? I kind of swooned. I can’t help it! They’re just so perfect for each other!

Jae-ha’s emotional progression just in this episode alone, ripped me up good and proper. When his betrayal turned to fear, and that fear multiplied turned to desperation and despair? It kills me that he’s ready to give it all up, but I know that his people won’t let him. Hang-ah will kick ass, and Shi-kyung will find the words. Right? RIGHT?

Jae Ha said in the video to Bong Gu that even the people he abandoned or cast away would still be willing to help him. That's no boast at all. Like the Secretary. Love that his son while not knowing exactly why the father went into 'exile' still kept him updated. And the same unspoken understanding, even after the terrible betrayal, exists between Eun Sr. and Jae Ha.

When Jae Ha called him, out of desperation, also with a slim hope that he might still be willing to help, the Secretary guessed it right away from the unlisted number. And what he said was exactly what Jae Ha should be doing. This whole sequence was tightly wound and expertly executed.

Good point! I didn't notice it until the second time I watched this episode (just too many things to process in one viewing!) but Bong Gu might be over-confident in thinking that he has the upper hand by making JH sack the secretary...in his narrow selfish world, he never guessed that the secretary would still help JH after getting sacked.

I agree. This was the only point in the whole drama that I felt that Eun Chief Secretary had done anything to redeem himself.

I was pissed off when he had the audacity to resign and ask Jae Ha for clemency in keeping things from Shi Kyung. The gall ... letting the King take the brunt for his mistakes. I would so kick him while he was prostrated on the ground.

But when he dished out the advice and still gave Jae Ha hope, I thought, OK ole man, it's a step ...

Great point. It's totally coming around full circle how true Jae-ha's words to Bong-gu were.

This episode was amazing!

The acting is so good. I'm glad I've been watching the series RAW lately and once again when the subtitles come out so I can understand the details.

Jae-Ha is going down as my favourite drama character ever. He's such an amazing personality and I really feel for him. Whenever he cries, I get all misty eyed too, and this episode really brought on the waterworks.

Lee Seung-gi's acting skills has been such a surprise throughout the series. He was really rough around the edges in previous dramas, but he's been consistently delivering the goods week after week!

my sentiments exactly!
And this episode is the best so far. This really highlighted Lee Seung Gi as an actor. His face, eyes, voice, body language showed hurt, fear, betrayal, joy, relief, love, pain, anger, weary, end of the rope, despair, hopelessness --- all these emotions and more in this one episode. And I, as a viewer, felt it with him - it is that powerful acting! It seemed real that I was really moved to tears and holding my breath throughout. whewwww!
LSG's acting in this episode alone should earn a Best Actor award, heck as Oscar Award. To think that he is only 26? So young and he can stand head to head with the veteran actors already!!!!
Not only that, but all the other characters were brilliantly portrayed as well.
K2H should be garnering above 50's ratings, however, it does take maturity and intelligence to fully appreciate this drama. The story does not appeal as an "eye candy" for younger audience, although the actors here are "eye candy" too. I think HJW and LSG are the most gorgeous Korean stars and they look natural. I love natural looks.
That is why I truly grateful for the writers and producers of this drama. It is a new genre and its about time because Korean dramas are becoming "cliches" and I am almost to the point of stopping my kdrama watching. Thank goodness for K2H, there is hope that kdramas is maturing as well and expanding its boundaries.

He's 25 (an 87'er) to the rest of us! Going by the Korean age calculations he's 26!

This drama deffo doesn't go for fan service. There're rumors that there was a kiss that was edited out by the PD. In Ep 15 when JH & HA share a private moment in the bunker wherein he asks her to trust him & then hugs her.

I agree. and i love how jae ha also has his imperfections, as we've all noted in previous episodes.
it's a realistic portrayal of man and i love how the writers don't shy away from the harsh truth.
Heroes don't always have to be saying all the right things to please us.
I think that's why Jae Ha appeals SO much to me is that even when he's got me wincing from his harsh words, squealing from his true-to-character phrases, or aching for his raw pain.. In the end, he's a hero i just completely want to root for.. I swear, the writers have crafted jae ha's character in a way that we -- the viewers, also support our king. echos so nicely to the story and jae ha's belief in his people.

He planted the evidence to frame Hang Ah, and that resulted in her being put on public trial and misunderstandings with Jae Ha. That was the main cause of her miscarriage, so Bong Gu is the main culprit.

I am totally hoping that lsg n hjw will end up together in the real world. I m shipping them! They look so good together and they have amazing chemistry! I like secret garden and was crazy about it. But I didn't feel the totally in love chemistry between Hyun bin and Ha Ji Won. It was like they were acting. However,k2h is different. Lsg n hjw dont look like they are acting; it seems like they are really in love. Every scene that they have together sizzles, including the 2nd ep where lsg's hand touched her hand when they were sitting on the floor beside the bed. I know that they have a 9 year age gap but so what.

These are the reasons why they should be together:
1. Hjw is considered to be one of the best actress n lsg is considered to be the prince of Korean entertainment multi-talented.
2. Though lsg is 9 years younger, he is very mature for his age and I read that people said that he is an old soul stuck in a young body. He debuted at 17 and has already worked for 8 years so he is not like a young man who just started working.
3. Both are savers, no financial conflicts!
4. Both are confident and comfortable with their looks. Lsg hasn't gone under the knife before. N hjw looks the same as her school days photo (correct me if I m wrong)
5. Lsg likes to play soccer (correct me if m wrong) n hjw is athletic.
6. Both are known to be nice people.
7. Lsg sang the song "you're my woman" maybe its a sign of things to come!

Anyone wants to add to this list?

I love your list, love their on-screen chemistry, their public personas and would be happy if they did date in real life, there are some challenges:
1. LSG still has to go for his military service so he'll be away for 2 years (oh, my - this is like What's up Fox, one of my faves).
2. Age gap could be a concern for LSG's parents - not sure how conservative they are.
3. Hope craze fans would give them enough space for their relationship to grow.

@em, NN, and @ilovecityhall:
HJW and HB in SeGa, and Hang Ah and Lee Jae Ha in K2H -
as much as I enjoy the onscreen chemistry of Ha Ji Won with her partners, I really want to keep it that way. I want to keep the onscreen romance as a fantasy. Real marriage is difficult and it is hard to fulfill the love ever after especially if both are celebrities.

Isn't that why we are drawn to kdramas because of the romance? i don't know about you but this is my secret vice :) I am reliving romance thru kdramas. Real life is just so difficult LOL. It's all well at first - courtship and honeymoon stage -- but after that real life kicks in and it's just work....

That is why romantic dramas always ends in a kiss, engagement or wedding? hehe coz that's where the romance begin to die...unless both partners work at it really hard to sustain the romance...
ooops speaking from experience?
yes,
but there are things such as faithfulness and loyalty and duty and responsibility - and that's another story
.

0

i agree!! i would prefer HB and HJW in real life mainly cos the age gap isnt so big and their bts-es show more interactions, in my opinion (the way he held her hand just to keep her warm.. how he held on to her after they finished filming the party kiss scene).

I would love to ship HJW and LSG too but then, i think there'll be so many obstacles.. not to mention the age gap (i read sumwhere he's kinda conservative, so maybe not so open to dating older girls) and also, all his rumours with yoona. :S

so, i LOVE HB and HJW for RL but i LOVE HA and JH!!!! :P

0

^^^ love HJW and HB to date in real life. (aren't they??? assuming too much,, Binnie-Jiwon fantard, er, fangirl... :) ))

Reply
and I'm also loving LSG.. maybe it's like this: I love HB-HJW and I love LJH-KHA....

0

LSG seems mature for his age, and HJW is young for her age. They do match physically and I think mentally. I do hope they make more movies or dramas together - the romantic, light, sappy kind. They look so good together. After this ordeal they put us through in K2H, they better reward us with a light, fun love story to mend our ripped hearts. Whats all this talk about LSG in the army. Aishhhhh stress!

I'm on board fellow LSG-HJW shippers! I also watched Secret Garden (loved it) and couldn't really feel HB and HJW off screen, maybe just because I still see him with SHK. On that note, I think LSG-HJW's chemisty could be compared to HB-SHK in World's within. They respective chemistry just feels so natural.
Anyway, I can't really think of anything to add to the list, but they'll be one amazingly gorgeous couple!

I know this is quite a standard reaction from fans after watching a drama they love and I'm usually very level-headed on such matters, but, i have to confess that I have this secret wish too.

However, I do remember in an earlier interview (not sure when), LSG said he didn't mind dating an older woman but 5 years is the max he can accept. Boohoohoo! Any change of heart?

i recalled hearing/reading one of those BTS interviews, Seung Gi calls Ha Jiwon 'noona'. i recalled too that when he was filming MGIAG, he didn't wanna call Shin Minah 'noona' (pref to call her Shin Minah-sshi)... so, shippers, sorry not sure if this K2H pairing would happen in real life....

Hyun Bin and Ha Ji Won - agree the BTS chemistry of SeGa was just ever so slightly different from K2H.

For me, as an older fan of SG, I would want him to eventually find a woman who will love him for WHO he is and not for what he is. The BBQ scene where JH talks about his first love and how people don't see him beyond his status, I think is close to what SG and other celebs like him are feeling.

I also hope that she will be someone who is not afraid to speak up and correct him if necessary, like HA, but do it in love. Hence, she can't be a die-hard fan, cos she'll then up him on a pedestal, and that's not what SG needs.

I also hope that she can be a friend to him as well, not just a lover, as of course vice versa.

My daughter was telling me that if SG does eventually get hooked up, it will probably have to be another celeb as popular as him, or even more so... or else she'll be hit by hate mails. Sigh.

@ Reglest, @Saima and @MsB, read your comments in an earlier post that the 3 of you think he'll end up with a non celeb. Care to shed some light on that?

Sorry, would also like to add something else. I kinda feel that there is something going on between LSG and HJW. It's not what I see in the drama, but in the BTS and during their interviews that makes me think so. It's the little looks, the little touches and close proximity. Even though JJS and LYJ also have a love interest in the drama, I didn't see their chemistry off set during the drama's press release.

These little gestures are not part of acting, and can't be faked.

i think i saw an interview when they were promoting the drama for the first time. the interviewer gave HJW a K2H poster and she laughed, rather sounded forced.

then LSG said to the interviewer, 'u heard that laugh right? that's a fake one. she usually doesn't laugh like that.' and HJW LOL for that.

aigoooo Seung Gi-yaa, cant u be anymore obvious and attentive to your noona?

0

Well..that's because for a humble like him, it'll be difficult for him if his pair is a star too, too many rumors, too many judging will. While when 'the chosen' is ordinary people, he'll live easier ^^ *a really fangirl way of thought*

TBH, if he is happy, thn I'll happy too...previously I'm Seung-Joo shipper, but Won-Gi isn't bad either(their chemisty is just like FIRE), but I don't mind if he is dating Moon Chae Won too! All of the girls is just humble and beautiful, and suit him perfectly^^

0

@crazyahjummafan I spoke that simply because it seems to be a trend with most stars. If he did end up with a celeb, your daughter is right, it would have to be with someone really popular.

I am totally addicted to this drama and can't think of anything else these past weeks. Thanks for knowing that I am not alone in this predicament.
There hasn't been a drama-- and I have watched maybe a hundred since I discovered korean dramas/movies in the past 2 years) -- that has touched me both mentally and emotionally and turned me into a fangirl? (yay i am married with children, can I call myself a fangirl of LeeSeungi ???) ...ooops sorry i can't help it.
LSG is beyond great in his portrayal as Lee Jae HA.

I am proud to be his fan!

I'm pretty much a newbie when it comes to kdramas. The first month that I discovered it, I had no social life and was always locked inside my room trying to marathon kdramas. Since i started, I haven't watched a single American show. But I don't feel the loss :)

And when I decided to watch K2H "live" (meaning no waiting for all episodes to finish), I pretty much was useless cause I rewatch previous episodes and "hunt" the internet for any stories/articles/photos about K2H. I know I need to stay away from spoilers but like a junkie, I can't help it.

After all this is done, I probably need to see a therapist. (Ok, maybe after I marathon the whole thing from start to finish.)

you could scold me too coz i am lagging in my ahjumma duties LOL. but this is my therapy and de-stressor. I no longer call my massage therapist to my house coz i am always "busy". My social life is online --so be nice to me, you are now my friends...
As for me, I feel that watching dramas, I am educating myself about Korea - language, culture.
In fact, I already learned a few phrases and understand some Korean peculiarities - each country have their own peculiar ways. Koreans I've seen for example: karaoke parties, piggbacks, and difficult mother-in-laws -I am sure this is not a monopoly of Korea hehe, it's universal.
My next project is visiting S Korea and staying at a traditional korean house eating authentic korean foods , going to a karaoke, and a tv drama filming, or a k-pop concert, visiting a palace.. so many things to do ...shopping of course. i want to learn to speak the language too.

I have this quirk that I want to watch/read it in a big screen. Hee. So true, though. Thanks to the new tech, right?! :)

0

my mobile, apparently, is near to exploding if I don't stop lurking, reading, and commenting on every sites I know.. Even episode 12 of K2H is screaming of "aren't you tired of waching me over and over and over again? there's plenty of episodes for you to rewatch" right in front of my face... *giggles*

even bought another micro SD for compilations of everything K2H related...LoLs

0

hahaha. same here. i've got no one to talk to about it at work (and even my friends are not watching *pout*). And when a particularly awesome episode of K2H just aired which is like EVERY episode, I'm just itching to discuss it with someone. So to all of you here giving your opinions and 2 cents worth, you're all my new BFFs.

And, of course, to Girlfriday and the awesome people behind Dramabeans, YOU ROCK! Thank you for your hard work. :) ♥

if you type king2hearts, the equator man, and the rooftop prince on google. Theking2hearts has 3x or more searches . This shows how K2H is more popular than the other 2 dramas. The Nielsen tv ratings should be scrapped as a popularity measure for tv dramas because it is a flawed measurement tool and it's only based on 1000 household respondents? So obsolete. Today, less and less people watch TV. I don't watch TV and there are more people watching dramas online.
I am predicting K2H will start a new trend of story lines for the future kdrama land.

I seriously can't even imagine how I'd feel after epi 20 airs! No more Jae ha and Hang ah bickering! No more awesome OTP moments! Ahhh.....stress!!! Major stress!
But yeah, thank you dramagods that a drama like this has come by and made us laugh, cry and fall in love and get stressed over and over again!
Seunggi has shown everything in just one episode, how amazing is that! He kissed! He cried (awesome acting!), he got mad and yelled, so nice to see him so in love...and then take charge as a king!
Not to forget the awesome epi 15 scene when he was sweating and his hands were shaking when he was doing the bomb-thing! Awesome!
Ha Ji Won unni, we will miss you!

I do not think we should shippers HJW with her partners drama, because if she would play even with an orangutan we all fall in love with him and we also find him charming and beautiful... Ha, Ha, Ha,
Ha Ji Won is a remarkable actress with a strong dedication for her work, she put in roles that make all her soul and her body she as even said she lives like the character she plays (how long during filming). I think her sincerity and joy in the roles that she makes them reflect on their partners and simply makes them shine.
I really like this drama but mostly I like to see the evolution of a boy for an attractive man and a future great star. Ha Ji Won I love you, Lee Seung Gi CONGRATULATIONS

LOL dear lord, i am prey to this kind of thing.
always want to ship a couple after falling in love with their dramas.

Ha ji won is definitely remarkable.
I can just see her walking around set talking in her north korean dialect to stay in character. She just becomes so completely immersed in her roles! DAEBAK!

Considering how Ha Ji won manages to make all her co-stars look charming and adorable, that would be one very attractive orangutan indeed!

@ mangos

I am prey to that kind of things too. After Secret Garden, I was totally shipping Binnie and HJW, because their chemistry was amazing!

Now that my love for K2H has surpassed my affection for SG, I've become a LSG-HJW shipper. :)

and yes, HJW, u're the best!!

As for me,at first I watched this drama solely for HJW and the story line. Wasn't really that fond of LSG coz I think he was just ok in MGIAG and i didn't watch SI.

But now.. I've officially declared that I'm Airen. LSG has matured in his acting and having HJW by his side, he can never go wrong!

LSG n HJW, hwaiting!!

exactly my sentiments! I loved all HJW's costars as in ALL with no exceptions. I tried not to ship them as a real couple but I end up shipping them. I ship HJW with the costar she is currently working with. In that case, it's LSG. This 2012, I'm a HJW-LSG shipper. So bad HJW don't have romance in her new movie Korea/As One. I hope to see her create more on-screen chemistry with her future costars. Forgive my undying fangirling to Ha Ji Won. I just can't help it. She's so aweeeeesome.

Was first impressed by her performance in SG so went on to see WHIB as well. Can't say I liked her character in WHIB though must say I was once again impressed by her performance. Even caught one of her early movies - some lame one about kids in university. Can't say I enjoyed that, think I gave up on it half-way because it was just too crude. not her but the storyline and her co-stars. Even then she had a great figure, though (think she was some sort of cheerleader in the movie). She's very natural in both her acting and her looks. Don't think she's gone under the knife as she looks very much the same now as in her early movie.

wow nice list:) i also have this secret wish haha:) but i think the biggest obstacle would be the age gap. i thnk LSG is too much of a nice guy and conservative to make a move on HJW...unless his alterego's brashness and boldness overtakes him then why not!!
and have u read HJW's latest news..she says that her chem with LSG is really great, so that by merely looking into his eyes, she cries...
my gawd if that's not emotional connection then what is??
its very clear she's not saying it for the promos sake..cause we can see it for ourselves, their chemistry is really palpable..especially in that dream sequence scene!

I like secret garden but I didn't ship hb n hjw. I couldn't feel the sizzling between them. However, k2h is totally different!
They sizzle in every scene together.
To tell you the truth, when I read that lsg n hjw were going to act as a couple, I thought the drama was not going to make it. Lsg looks so young n I wasn't enamoured of his acting. This drama has proven me wrong by a billion times! They totally rock together as a couple!
I can't think of any other man in the Korean drama land that is as fine as lsg. This will be a match made in heaven.

I watch K2H because of HJW..from the start it already alerted me that this is no ordinary drama...one reason is the casting of the male lead was offered 3 times to other actors before finally LSG grab the role...I am glad he did...I could not imagine somebody else as king of this drama, he owns the role of being king of K2h...I definitely agree that he is very attractive wearing a suit...

Yes, I was a total HB/HJW shipper after Secret Garden and to be honest, I still am. LSG and HJW have SIZZLING on-screen chemistry, but I don't see the sparks as much in their behind-the-scenes footage as I do in the Secret Garden behind the scenes footage. They seem to have more of a professional distance between them. When I watch SG bts videos, I seriously feel like I am a voyeur looking in on a series of first dates, or something. They're touchy-feely all the time, they're always flirting and joking, and HB is super attentive to HJW. There's one interaction where HJW sits down next to HB on a couch, and he instinctively puts his hand on hers. She doesn't even flinch. He then catches himself, removes his hand, thinks, and grabs a heat bag to put on her hand, leaving his hand on top of the bag. It's adorable. There are literally dozens of moments like this. They're SO cute together. Gah, I'm getting all fangirly again, haha. I swear I'm normally not like this...I never remotely cared who a celebrity was dating/interested in before delving into the deep, dark world of kdramas. I feel like I've reverted to being a teenage girl (though even as a teen, I didn't much care for celebrity gossip).

However...HJW and LSG do seem to have a lot in common, they have onscreen fireworks, they seem to laugh a lot and have a blast in bts clips, they're both incredibly talented and preternaturally attractive...so I'm not opposed to that, either. You know, if I had a say in things. :)

In the dream scene, both Jae Ha and Hang Ah look so young, so pure, like they are made of water.

In that instance, their love for each other is just so plain to see.

I think when HJW said in her interview that she tears up as soon as she sees him, she was thinking about this scene.

And I had that sinking feeling because what Hang Ah said to Jae Ha sounded to much like...last words...

Thank goodness she later said things will turn out fine as time passes. Still a bit of a downer, but cheer me up a bit.

Hang Ah, Jae Ha, I know you can pull it through. Please don't lose hope. Fighting!

It was all in vain, though, especially during that dream sequence - when the Queen Mother called Hang-Ah and gestured to her that they have to go . . . that just about killed me. The acting during that scene was so poignant and the Queen Mother's expression - ah, I don't have words. I was a total mess after that.

@AnnMichelle,
I had the same thought as you did when HA told JH to eat right and exercise. They sounded like last words. So when I saw the last scene when HA says she will talk to JH in person to persuade him to abdicate, I thought that her plan might be to sacrifice herself for him so that she will not be used by BG.

I'm in denial and am hoping that the writers won't kill either Jae-Ha or Hang-ah. If Hang-Ah sacrifices herself so that JH won't abdicate his throne....umm, I don't think I'll have the strength to continue watching this. It's unfathomable to me to imagine Jae-ha's fractured soul after he loses her. I.just.can't!

I think her intention is to prolly strike a deal (some secret that BG wants to keep from JH acc to the preview) & to sacrifice herself but JH will pull through and save his woman. Somebody who's deeply in love as JH (who doesn't even want to be king) will hate being stuck with the throne after he loses his beloved.

It's twisted but this is my only hope that'll get me through the next 4 days!!

I have a more positive solution. HA may have a plan up her sleeve, but she needs JH to trust her, the way she had to trust him at the WOC and blow up the bunker. She may also be providing a clue to their destination when she meets him and tell him, 'Trust me." One can only hope.

If she dies, I WILL NEVER WATCH THIS DRAMA AGAIN. It'll be too painful.

So please,please please writers!

Just as if any of our beloved main characters die. And, really, it would not be fair. The royal family had the king and queen's death, jae shin's accident, treason by the secretary, heartache, kidnapping. What has happened to BG????? Almost nothing! Really, if the writers don't give us a happy ending for everyone that we love here, they are cruel, cruel people.

0

Nah, I have faith in the fact they pegged this drama as a romantic-comedy and not a makjang. I think Hang Ah is gonna kick ass. If this was a Hong sisters' thing though I would be worried they'll pull a Hong Gil Dong.

As it, I worry more about the disposability of the second leads a la City Hunter. You leave Shi Kyung alone, you mean writers!

I certainly hope so. I mean, this drama has been foreshadowing that Hang-ah might come to harm for quite some time (the red wine splashing on her, the ominous dream sequence, heck...even Jae-ha shooting her waaay back when in WOC training days)...but I really, really, REALLY hope that doesn't happen. I just can't see our king living up to his full potential as a leader without her. They balance each other out. Not to mention that their union is necessary for the unification of NK & SK. For the good of Korea, I hope that they make it through the drama alive.

What dawn on me is now, that the writers never let us gone without the 'real life issue', here, just googling about tuberculosis in North Korea, but what I found is scared me more, the fact is:
http://www.voanews.com/english/news/asia/east-pacific/North-Korea-Struggling-to-Fight-Epidemic-of-Drug-Resistant-TB-133680398.html

Tuberculosis it self already frighten me, but the fact that MDR TB is spread widely in NK make me shiver. Even in my country where first line drug still used, Tuberculosis is a nightmare! Can't imagine about the MDR TB...
and to think, our tuberculosis treatment is FREE because we receive international aid, what about NK who refuse international aid. The cost might be sky rocketing! I can't even imagine that...

In addition, I'm chuckled a bit, because you can't use penicillin to treat tuberculosis, maybe Hang Ah's mother case is different?(don't let me down writers ;) ). But statement about a shot of penicillin cost 1kg of rice apparently right, just found a glimpse from here, 2009 article:

True, penicillin was used at earlier treatment long time ago, but it has replaced by streptomycin now, and streptomycin considered as the 2nd line of treatment.

Your answer make me think 2 possible reason, considering possibility that 'penicillin' that mentioned before is actually streptomycin :
1. The medical care in NK is that bad to still use penicillin, or
2. The condition in NK is that bad, which make the medical care considering to use 2nd line (streptomycin) first.

Any of reason already scaring me for it :(

I am old enough that I remember TB first hand. My grandmother had it and for many, many years, everyone of us in the family had to go in every quarter for our shots.

And yes, back then it was penicillin and then streptomycin. It was also extremely painful. It is not like the BCG or straight-forward injections. You got it in your inner elbow and they had to "hook" the veins twice before injecting.

I was a young child then and at first I cried every time I got the injections but after a while I became immune. Till this day I have no reactions to injections and it doesn't matter how many time or how painful it is. Oh, except for the bone marrow ones. Those, even I whimper at.

You also have to think about the fact that Hang Ah is around 30 years old. From what I've gathered from the drama, Hang Ah's mother died when she was very young so it was probably a good 15-20 years ago. (Perhaps more.) *shrug* That would also effect the kind of treatments used for TB in North Korea.

Probably, by the way, it's just a bit information,

Around 1945 penicillin was used broadly, which explain the broad range bacteria resistance for beta-lactam right now. But since the start, penicillin penetration to Mycobacterium tuberculosi isn't good, The chemotherapy of infectious diseases, using sulfonamide and penicillins, had been underway for several years, but these molecules were ineffective against Mycobacterium tuberculosis. (cited from http://www.umdnj.edu/ntbc/tbhistory.htm )

I thnk thye writers want to tell us that Tuberculosis is still a big problem in NK, until now :(

But yeah, thank you dramagods that a drama like this has come by and made us laugh, cry and fall in love and get stressed over and over again!
Seunggi has shown everything in just one episode, how amazing is that! He kissed! He cried (awesome acting!), he got mad and yelled, so nice to see him so in love…and then take charge as a king!
Not to forget the awesome epi 15 scene when he was sweating and his hands were shaking when he was doing the bomb-thing! Awesome!

In all his dealings with Bong Gu, Jae Ha is full of gusto and bravado, whether it's real or false, truly felt or pretense. But not this time. He looks nervous, uncertain, and dejected, like all the wind gone out of his sails.

Because Bong Gu has really got him this time, at his most vulnerable.

On the way back, Jae Ha was deep in thought about what to do. I think one thing that bothers him a lot, if he agrees to step down from the throne, is how the Queen Mother and Hang Ah will react, and what he will become in their eyes, even though he does it to save them.

Hang Ah's attitude could not have been clearer. She will marry a MAN. A man who takes on responsibility and obligations gladly and bravely. The Queen Mother treats the royal duties pretty much the same way (remember that conversation just after Jae Kang's death?).

How he is going to live through his life in the eyes of the two most beloved women as a quitter and a coward is what's been giving him pause. Otherwise, like he said, he does not want to be king. He does not crave power or the trappings of a king. (And in this hour of darkness, I don't he thinks about the more symbolic and abstract ideas of serving the people or withhold the tradition.) To save his mom and his wife, he would give up those.

I agree about HA's attitude. I think the writers could have meant to foreshadow what is to come when they made HA declare that she would only get engaged to a man who did the honorable thing (during the woc). And remember that time in NK when the general made her film a speech to the SK people? She totally went against the general's orders without giving him a hint. I'm afraid that she might do the same with the abdication...maybe when she finally talks to JH, she'll tell him to not ever step down or she wouldn't marry him. But that would get Bong Gu so angry that he might do something to her...maybe he would finally tell JH where HA and his mother are in hopes of luring JH to kill him. argh, my imagination.

I actually really liked the short scene when the royals were sitting down together, and queen mother and princess were both freaking over the problem of cruella.. and then Hang Ah just walks right in, Jae Ha gives a 'you- got-this' look to hang ah, and just gets up to get out.
He just so clearly trusts hang ah to help him take loads off his shoulder.
I swear, this couple are partners in crime.
So supportive, so loving.
SO badass. rarely do i ever root for a couple as strongly as i do for our jae ha and hang ah.
Perhaps my love for this drama is a bias, but one would be dumb to say they don't see the chemistry (not necessarily romance-wise) that we see when our OTP are fighting together, hand in hand.

@jadebutterfly,

HJW is acting in character - as a soldier who has never been in love and of course she is more shy. Contrast to LJH who was supposed to be a playboy. But the romantic scenes are so touching- i see LSG and HJW in those moments too, not just their characters. I maybe deceived by their acting. I like that aside from the awkward hug during the proposal scene, all the hugs and intimate scenes came out naturally and comfortably between them.
This is what is so romantic about Kdramas - even a butterfly kiss and hand touching gestures can make us swoon. That is why I stopped watching Hollywood made tv stories and movies ever since I discovered Kdramas. Sometimes less is more. Is it the Asian sensibility in general? or are Koreans more romantic in real life than others? hmm I wonder...

haha I feel the same about Hollywood expressions of affection. I much prefer the subtle way it's done in k-dramas. One look, one lingering touch, one kiss (not the tear-off-your-clothes kind...), one arm squeeze - all these things say so much more about emotions than the sexsexsexsex in Hollywood. I mean, I can tell from the comments that a lot of us are waiting for *something* between JH and HA but hey, we can appreciate the small things too. An amazing scene like the fridge kiss could never happen in Hollywood, for sure.

Required fields are marked *

I agree that the more restrained and shy behaviors fit Hang Ah's character. A lot of people praise how good an actress HJW is and how quickly but subtly she can change her expressions, and the way she look at you. (Like she looked at the queen mother with concern and love, but the next second she stared at the bad guys like she can tear into them.) So I think HJW plays Hang Ah this way because she considers that is what Hang Ah would react.

In this relationship, Jae Ha is totally the leader, the initiator. He does not have the baggage of inexperience, of submission (oriental traditions). And I think they have established that as their rule book of courtship. Hence even the PD encourages Jae Ha to be bolder. God knows if our boy gets bolder still, Hang Ah will be gasping for air to survive!

I think OTP in Sega has more scenes than TK2H, almost 80% that drama or more and definitely more skinships, TK2H has... maybe 40%?!?! So I can understand why HB & HJW were comfortable with e/o.
Honestly, I gave Sega maybe 3-4 chances to finish it although I like both leads because I just can't feel their love but these two acted well in it, probably due to the plot wasn't worked for me.
In TK2H, despite OTP doesn't have many scenes together but every scene leaves me so much impact and their love for e/o convinced me.

"In TK2H, despite OTP doesn’t have many scenes together but every scene leaves me so much impact and their love for e/o convinced me."

Totally agree with you on this. I strongly feel the same way too. Even though they don't have alot of those "sexsexkisskiss" scenes, all of the scenes between our OTP I can vividly remember in my head. They're all so poignant and like you said, impactful. I guess in this case, it really is "less is more" (or maybe because there's less, we treasure it more? haha). I can FEEL their intense love for each other without having to be SHOWN it. It's like their love is subtley weaved throughout the drama.

Required fields are marked *

So true. I think in K2H, the writers are really focusing on how the OTP grows together, and that is done through things like the marathon, overcoming disasters together, WOC and other developments.

There are apart quite a bit in this drama, but somehow it's always the times they are separated that has so much emotion.

I loved episode 10 and 11 where Jae-Ha realised the depths of his affection for Hang-Ah, and she didn't even have to be there to make that happen.

I love this couple, they are one of the most memorable drama couples for me.

Unless they really change their mind about the whole premise.

In the first batch of press junkets, there was a reference to a German novel as the idea this story was based on, basically saying an unchallenged and unaware soul needs to break his old world so he can behold the wonders of the real, shining new world. And that breakdown and rebuild would be aided by his soul mate.

Why, are they Jae Ha and Hang Ah?!

From http://tryp96.wordpress.com/2012/01/22/the-kings-logo-and-casting-board-revealed/

The German passage written on the casting board is from the novel Demian.

“Der Vogel kämpft sich aus dem Ei. Das Ei ist die Welt. Wer geboren werden will, muß eine Welt zerstören.”

English:
The bird struggles out of the egg. The egg is the world. Whoever wants to be born, must destroy a world.

My take:
A story about Emil (Jae Ha?) growing up in a ‘world of illusion’, but with the help of mysterious Damian (Hang Ah?) finally shattering the old world and entering into a ‘world of reality and spiritual truth’ – this is from Wikipedia

And all of our fans are reasons Jae Ha won't die!

Of course this was my thinking early in the drama. It can't happen now since HA already had a miscarriage and I don't think the writers would go down the pregnancy route again. So there! No need to worry. Everything will all work out in the end( praying still with fingers crossed)

First, let me just say that Seung-gi is an amazing actor. When he yelled at Secretary Eun, calling him a traitor, I got goosebumps. I can't quite equate this wonderful, powerful actor to the MC from Strong Heart. Just, wow at all his awesomeness.

Also, Mom was so awesome in this episode. Yay for Mom! I loved how she railed at Bong-gu, talking down to him. He really needed that.

What really killed me in this episode was Jae-ha's breakdown at the end. Don't resign! He won't, right? Hang-ah will save the day in all her badassness, and Shi-kyung will kill Mia and get Jae-shin, right? And Jae-shin will walk again, right? And Mom will be okay, right? I am freaking out right now. Only 4 episodes left, and I am on pins and needles, waiting for it all to come down to the last moments! But there will be a happy ending, right? And Bong-gu will die or go to prison, right? And Jae-ha and Hang-ah will get married and be king and queen, right? ARGH! I can't take all the suspense!!!!!

Thanks for the recap, Girlfriday!

I've noticed that there aren't many brother-sister scenes of Jae-ha and Jae-shin together, although I want more of that sibling support especially in dire times after Episode 16. I wonder if it's because Seung-gi still looks relatively young compared to Lee Yoon-ji to be her elder brother, or the writers just think they aren't necessary.

I actually hoped for more interaction between them because I liked it when they hanged out in the beginning, but I guess 20 episodes is restrictive when there is so much to tell. I think the Jae Shin-Shi Kyung and Hang Ah-Jae Ha developments are prioritized by the writers.

I rarely see kings interacting with siblings much in dramas. I think he's so busy with everything and his new romance that he doesn't have much time for his sister. But they're always concerned about each other...she asks so much about 'oppa' and he's also concerned about her so I didn't really feel the distance until you mentioned it.

Episode 16 made us feel many emotions such affection, happiness, sadness, curiosity and well you guys and girls know. Glad we did not get the emotional range of a teaspoon. If we are have emotional range of teaspoon our heart will explode. We need 2 hearts because if one of our heart burst we can live again with heart spare. Did you girls and guys agree. Well I like this burst of sensation. Wake up our brain to think more deeply about drama content and open our heart to feel many emotion. The King 2 hearts is brilliant and genius K-Drama.

"2 Hearts" - Country and loved ones. Abdicate the throne and save Queen Mother and Hang-ah, or keep the throne and lose them both. Or use that 187 IQ of his to come up with some genius plan to keep both at the end of the day.

I'm addicted. I've watched this episode 3 times and cried every time, even though the first time was a RAW episode. I've read some of the comments above and I, too have the ominous feeling that someone will die at the end. And my best guess (don't kill me) is the King T___T. Then Jae-shin will stand up again and be the Queen, carrying on the legacy of both brothers. The worst thing is, you know that the writers don't hesitate to kill off a character or pull a surprise twist unlike most other K-dramas out there, so I'm left spending the entire week speculating what will happen next.

Wednesday seems so near yet so far awayyyyyy......

this is probably the only time i cried watching this drama. this episode really just got me straight to the heart especially the last conversation between Shikyung and Jaeha.
I just love how Shikyung is always there when Hang-ah is unavailable to support the King. if its not Hang-ah, its Shikyung that point him to the right direction and I love how he is so straight-forward with the king.
and he is a total scene stealer.!!! i thought he would be a badass when i first saw him (when he shot Jaeha without batting an eye), totally changed my first impression of him.
i LOLed at his accidental confession "i-don't-like-you-but-I-totally-remembered-the-first-song-you-sang-to-me-i-even-memorized-the-notes-and-lyrics"!!

This is totally random but I'm trying to be optimistic after everyone started guessing who's going to die lol.

I'm basing this on my previous encounters with the writer's scripts on K2H that it's always unpredictable the direction they're heading with the story and whatever we guessed pretty much turned upside down by the next episodes. Since everyone's guessing a person will die maybe they will ALL live at the end? Well hopefully all except Club M. I swear - this drama is already on my all time favourite kdrama list and if any of my favourite characters die I can never get over this drama. And I really want to go back to the normal life I had before K2H even existed.

This drama is really about the journey of Jae Ha and I really want to see him becoming the great King he's destined to be even after the Kim Bong Gu incident. There's so much more Jae Ha can accomplish and if the whole gang is there (Royal Family, Hang Ah, Shi Kyung, even Secretary Eun as well), he's going to make it all the way and defy the notion that a King is only a mere puppet and show that power is not everything. The whole drama really evolves around the importance of love, trust, loyalty, faith and courage - and persons without these things or appreciate these things can never become great, only hopelessness, loneliness and desperation. I really want K2H to keep reminding us of these things until the very end so that's why I don't want anyone not worthy of dying to die so soon :(

I really like how the writers are deviously putting out hints that maybe a character will die towards the end (the dreams, the tarot cards, the spilling wine during the engagement party) but I think they might just represents a long and difficult road ahead for Jae Ha and Hang Ah (which we're clearly aware of) that doesn't necessarily mean death. I think without deaths, these characters are already capable enough to take down King Bong Gu. It just takes a little push from Kim Bong Gu now and then ( eg Hang Ah and Queen Mother being kidnapped) for Jae Ha to confront his fear, to take things to another level with his intelligence, and to further realises that he can be the King that everyone believes him to be.

OMG having said all these I really hope this is the way the writers are heading. The more I watch this drama the more I believe the formula of Jae Ha + Hang Ah = Awesomeness to the max. Their compatibility level is just shockingly high that I don't think one can live on while the other dies.

Sorry for the long post

K2H fighting~ Jae Ha fighting! Hang Ah fighting! ~

@A: oooohhhh! I like you're way of thinking! This drama is so unpredictable and I have no idea why am I trying to find out what will happen at the end. Why can't I just wait for Wed & Thurs to come and enjoy the show? Why torture myself? But instead, I've been thinking about:

- What's the best ending for Bong Gu? I don't want him to die because that's an easy way out but since he's way too powerful and rich~ jail or mental institution ~ will not guarantee that he'll pay all his crimes against the royal family. But I don't mind seeing Jae Ha & Hang Ah tag team against him, both shooting him on the heart.

~ BongBong (Mia) ~ can we torture her first but I bet she'll love it too. I want Shi Kyung to get revenge for Jae Shin. Some Shi Kyung in action will be nice right?

~Bong Gu's side kick ~ what if he back stab Bong Gu & report all Bong Gu's wrong doings so he can get M Society's position? Then he'll promise not to bother North & South Korea

~ Jae Shin will be able to walk again with Shi Kyung as her knight in shining armor

~ Shi Kyung ~ still right behind the King of course ~ more bromance

~ Eun Gyu Tae ~ retired & serve as an advisor

~ Queen Mother ~ playing with her grand kids

~ Jae Ha & Hang Ah ~ save the best for last ~ a grandiose wedding, HONEYMOON, & tons of kids!

OK, what can I say, now I'm officially lost my mind due to TK2H :D :D :D

Regarding the sidekick, whom I call Gopher, yes, I bet he will be turned. Remember the threats he's been through so far? And the terrified, disgusted look when he saw the girlfriend's dead body? I am sure he is fearing for his own life and as long as the terms are right, his betrayal of Bong Gu can be arranged. It only emphasizes how people-less Bong Gu really is.

I like your wishlist for the ending of K2H! I'll just add a few things...

1) I can sooo imagine Kim Bong Gu going into a mental institution still smiling and believing that he and Jae Ha are super best buds. I think he just wants the attention and feel loved from Jae Ha, which sadly he will never get.

2) I really hope BonBon will be smacked down big time by either Shi Kyung or Hang Ah - she's really really crazy to the point that I'm more scared of her then Bong Gu sometimes.

At the moment i'm REALLY looking forward to how Jae Ha take down Kim Bong Gu because it's not easy AT ALL. Like seriously, how can you defeat a powerful figure that's more powerful than the King himself? I really like how Secretary Eun was providing assurance to Jae Ha when he called - it's so good that he's there to provide useful advice - he should have done that wayyyy earlier.

@A: since I'm watching RTP & QIHM too, I wonder if Bong Gu came from another dimension where he & Jae Ha are super buds LOL! I still don't get it why he's so obsessed with Jae Ha every since they were young? Did they already explain it in previous episodes that I might have missed?

When it comes to BonBon/BongBong, she's like a ticking bomb ready to explode anytime. As much as I love Hang Ah to kick her a$$, I would love to see ShiKyung do it for Jae Shin.

Same here, I'm looking forward how Jae Ha will get his revenge this coming last 4 episodes. Ugh, just knowing that we only have 4 episodes left makes my head & heart hurt :(

Required fields are marked *

My goodness, four episodes to go...here's what I'm hoping the story will go:

1) Hang Ah/Queen Mother kidnapping will end by episodes 16-17 (actually make that ep 16 because I don't want to see BonBon and her emo eyes for a while lol)

2) Jae Shin will regain her memory by episodes 17-18 and Jae Ha continue on planning something re bringing down Kim Bong Gu.

3) EPIC showdown between Jae Ha and Kim Bong Gu in ep 19-20.

If the Hang Ah/Queen Mother's kidnapping already made me having random heart attacks I have no clue what could have possibly come next for that epic showdown...That reminds me how last time people were saying how they never thought the story could get any more depressing re Jae Kang's death and then the next minute we got Hang Ah's miscarrage.

SIGH - Lee Seung Gi please don't cry and make us all cry with you. We're running out of tears and we want you to have more lovey dovey scenes with Hang Ah starting with slowwwer and longerrrr kisses and hugs...

By the way we haven't seen a back hug so far...they might as well put that in since it's almost a must-have in all k-dramas. OMG am super duper happy just thinking about it :D

0

@A: Like your ideas too! In addition to back hug, how about piggyback too? I know there was a scene from previous episode where Hang Ah offered Jae Ha to piggyback him, so this time Jae Ha will initiate the act.

That's right, Seung Gi-ya, I'm like HJW ~ I cry just looking at his eyes so writer-nim please stop on the crying part. Even though I'm jealous of HJW, edit the remaining scripts and give us more kisses and hugs OK? Chebal :D

0

Another thing is that we already had 2 important deaths... necessary, but important and hurtful, and that was the previous King and his wife.

@A: All that little PD hints (red wine, dream...) doesn't go with me.
I'm expecting happy end, real, normal happy end, because they need to think about audience. Why?
If they kill someone and I mean HA or JH, it shows that justice doesn't exist, people with money can do what ever they want...kill someone, evil become more powerful than good, profit is more important than human life and so on.
That kind of ending doesn't work for noone, not even for the actors and less for staff and PD...

My real question is; What's BG gets from all of this?
He's King, how? Killing JH doesn't make him the King...he'll become president, noone will vote for him, but he isn't the King...he'll buy half country, be on TV, magazines but still not the King... Divide and conquer doesn't work for him.
He can conquer but he doesn't know how to rule...he's to small - minded, arrogant, odd, crazy, not well mannered, fat, egoistic, no style, no pride, sad ;)

I rest my case!

I feel that JH, HA, Q , JS , Sk are all going to live. Its not designated as Tragic Romance. I dun know bt Eun Snr tho' . So far the very astute writers have been feeling the right pulse of what viewers like to see .There's no way they're going to write off JaeHa. He may be hurt trying to save his loved ones but he'll be ok for wedding ! Whether wedding can be as scheduled in 3 months as he said , thats a question mark.i think HangAh will be ok too .
They're symbolically used to represent SK & NK & killing one off may send the wrong message . That's from my head .
From my heart...i want them to live! I want a Wedding & I wanna see a baby cos the miscarriage was so talked about & really left a sour note .

Awesome recap, thanks GF!

"but it was the bromance that really did me in. When they had words over Dad and Jae-ha was trying to protect Shi-kyung by being the bad guy and Shi-kyung continued to trust him anyway? I kind of swooned. I can’t help it! They’re just so perfect for each other!"

I definitely agree with you on this. It's like our earnest bot knows Jae-ha more than he knows his self, it's just so heart-warming.

I would have to say that my heart goes for eun sr. Sure, he's been a total ass most of the times, but there were quite few moments where he showed genuine concern for the royal family as well. I am totally waiting for the moment wherein he would redeem his self.

For me, all scenes were executed so awesomely well - it amazes me that the show continues to make all characters shine and show their strength.

"When his betrayal turned to fear, and that fear multiplied turned to desperation and despair? It kills me that he’s ready to give it all up, but I know that his people won’t let him. Hang-ah will kick ass, and Shi-kyung will find the words"

I've cried my heart out all through out uri puppy's scenes and I can't find the words to describe how I felt - I was totally in awe. I didn't know that it's possible-but I'm loving both Jae-ha and Seung-gi more.
