The King 2 Hearts: Episode 16

Awwww yeah! We’re back, baby. Now THIS is the show I know and love. Bring in da stakes, bring in da tears, and let’s get down to business. Betrayal hits like a ton of bricks, but it feels like being dusted with powdered sugar compared to what’s around the bend…

EPISODE 16 RECAP

Secretary Eun sneaks away from the engagement to take a call from Bong-gu’s minion. He offers a choice: Jae-ha abdicates the throne peacefully, or he will be removed by force. Otherwise, Shi-kyung gets told about his daddy’s extracurricular misdeeds.

Uh… I’m thinking the asking price is a little low there. Sigh. Minions. Though on the flipside, Eun is the man who sold out the last king’s whereabouts for an LP, so… even stevens?

Secretary Eun tells him to go ahead and tell Shi-kyung whatever he wants to, because he is no longer going to listen to any threats from the likes of them. Well now. Look who graduated from amoeba in the final stretch. Now, would it have killed you to grow this backbone like three fatal mistakes ago?

Minion takes that as Door Number Two, and drops his voice, “There will be blood,” like he’s been waiting his whole minion life to say that line. At the same moment, Jae-ha and Hang-ah toast (With red wine? Really?) and the clink sends her glass shattering. The Wine of Portent splatters on her white dress.

She frets, but he smiles and tells her that it’ll all make for lasting memories. They walk through the crowd and wave, and then some kind soul chants, “Kiss! Kiss!” and soon the whole crowd joins in.

Jae-ha side-eyes Hang-ah, and then spins to face her, and pulls her in for a kiss. Gah, the all-the-way-around-arm-wrapping just does me in.

The parents watch with embarrassed but adorably happy smiles.

That night, Secretary Eun calls Shi-kyung out for a chat. He asks how the Anmyundo investigation is going, and Shi-kyung says he’s going to be back on the case now that the engagement is over.

Dad lets out a long contemplative sigh, and starts to say it… but can’t quite get the words out. He just says that it’ll be over soon. Shi-kyung looks at him, confused.

Dad then goes to his office and writes his resignation. It details all of his nefarious exchanges with Club M, leaving nothing out. He takes one long look at his office of over thirty years, and then walks through the memorial hall of all the kings he’s served. He stops at Jae-kang’s portrait, “Do not forgive me, your majesty.” He bows down to the ground.

Jae-ha and Hang-ah discuss her picking up some of the queen mother’s charity events… while they get a couples massage? Ha. Okay, who’s brilliant idea was it to find some way to make Seung-gi’s cheeks look even more chipmunky? Hee.

Hang-ah suggests that maybe she could go to North Korea to do some of her charity work with a big smile, and Jae-ha tells her to have a good trip to the foreign country then. Heh.

But spa time gets cut short with an email from Club M. He goes to his desk to open it, and Hang-ah urges him to ignore it. He says it’s better to see what’s coming, even if it’s coming to explode all over them, which I’m all for. Let’s see it then.

He opens the email, filled with evidence that Secretary Eun sold out the Anmyundo location. Bollocks. HE’S JUST ABOUT TO TELL YOU HIMSELF! Aaaaaugh.

No matter how much I hate Cruella de Eun, I was all for him owning up to his crimes. He was so close! But I suppose you can’t expect the universe to be on your side if you wait till you’re backed into a corner before confessing.

The email has every bit of damning evidence – call logs between Eun and Bong-gu, Eun’s signature on clearing Bong-gu to enter the country, recordings of their phone calls.

Secretary Eun knocks on Jae-ha’s door and enters the office, prepared to hand in his resignation. But he walks in to hear a recording of the very call where he gave up the Anmyundo location.

Jae-ha just stares at him, blinking in disbelief. He finally asks blankly, “What is this?” Augh it kills me that he still wants ajusshi to say he didn’t do it. He asks if there was ever a time that he purposely conveyed lies between him and Hang-ah.

He says yes. Jae-ha asks, still disbelieving, if he was the one who changed Jae-shin’s entrance music at the conference. “You didn’t, right? You didn’t go that far, Ajusshi. Right?”

Still not raising his head, he says it’s true. Jae-ha looks up at him, stricken. He says that Anmyundo, he understands—it was a mistake, and he didn’t know who he was dealing with. But the rest… the rest…

Isn’t it just a twist of the knife to know that he would’ve been forgiven if he had come clean right away? But that’s the grave you dug for yourself, old man.

A tear streams down Jae-ha’s face as he continues to plead, “You were like family. Thirty years. Father chose you. Hyung trusted you. I leaned on you more than anyone. How could that Ajusshi…”

Ajusshi hands over his resignation, which just gets a scoff from Jae-ha. Quitting again? He says he’s not asking for forgiveness, and will take every punishment. Jae-ha makes it clear that he’ll be arrested and charged for his crimes.

Secretary Eun warns him to be careful of Club M, especially right now, and Jae-ha asks bitterly why—did he give them something else? He finally lets loose, screaming at the top of his lungs: “YOU ARE A TRAITOR!” Oof.

That’s what stings the most, of course, since he’s done all this while convincing himself that it was for the greater good. Jae-ha continues: “You committed high treason! Allowed foreign invasion! Aided and abetted an enemy of the state! YOU ARE A TRAITOR!”

Secretary Eun doesn’t deny any of it, and says he will accept the punishment for all his crimes. But he asks just one thing… Shi-kyung… Aaaauf. Don’t even get me started on the heartache you’re going to cause, old man.

He bows down to the ground on his hands and knees, and pleads with Jae-ha not to tell Shi-kyung (Well that’s just absurd—how will he be kept from finding out?). He says that Shi-kyung is an honest, upright man. He IS. And idealistic and hopeful too, and you’re about to fuck with that.

He says that he’ll tell Shi-kyung himself. Oh. Okay. At least you’re going to do that. Although I don’t see why you’re going to set yourself up for another circumstance exactly like this one by waiting. But then again, you’re not historically quick on the uptake.

The palace reels from the news in every corner. Shi-kyung comes to see Jae-ha and asks if it’s true that his father was dismissed. And despite his anger, Jae-ha keeps that promise to ajusshi—he pretends that he finally had enough of their personality differences and let him go.

Jae-ha says he’s old now and their paths are different. Shi-kyung argues for his father—that it’s different methods, not different paths, and that he served this monarchy for thirty years.

But Jae-ha cuts him off coldly, “He’s too old. He’s an old fogey. He smells foul and he’s stale.” Harsh words, but it effectively makes him the bad guy, and not Ajusshi.

Shi-kyung can’t believe the words coming out of his mouth. “Are you the king I know?” Jae-ha: “Why? Do you want to hit me?” And without hesitation, Shi-kyung answers, “Yes.” Omg, you two are gonna make me CRY. Stop it!

Jae-ha lets out a tightly-wound sigh, and tells Shi-kyung to take a vacation. He answers right away that he’ll be staying right by Jae-ha’s side (Thank goodness.) until he finds out exactly what happened between him and Dad. (Balls.)

Jae-ha yells after him, “Ya, Eun Shi-kyung!” but he storms out, having made up his mind. Thank goodness for your dogged trust, but I’m scared for you.

Hang-ah reads Secretary Eun’s letter of resignation. She says sympathetically that he must’ve had a hard time, and Jae-ha just agrees absently. She starts to make a case for forgiveness, but Jae-ha counters that Ajusshi used his trust against him, all this time.

Jae-ha: “I’m a person too. I need time.” Right? Hell, I still need time and I’ve known for weeks! She tells him to rest, and he says he’s got a million meetings to prep for, but she yanks the papers out of his hands and pats her lap.

She pulls him toward her and he lies down, head in her lap, and takes her hand. So sweet.

And then he wraps her hand tightly around him, in this gesture that kind of kills me—it’s the way a child tries to envelope himself in a mother’s arms for comfort, like it might be possible to make a monster-shielding blanket out of her embrace.

Hang-ah: “Are you scared?” Jae-ha: “Yes. Everything except you… I’m scared of. I don’t think I can trust people.” He shuts his eyes to stop the tears, and she leans on his shoulder.

Bong-gu sits at home, obsessively watching Jae-ha’s video letter for the millionth time, like the crazy stalker that he is. He even drunkenly answers, as if they’re having a conversation. HA. Anyway, he proceeds with The Plan.

Jae-shin is all gung-ho to scoop out her memories, but her therapist warns that she’s the one who locked them away, and forcing that back out could lead to panic. Yes, we’ve already been through the panic. Now it’s time to push through anyway, so get out your hypno-baubles, lady, and help a sister out!

She tries on her own to listen to “Ride of the Valkyries,” but it sends her reeling and she tears the headphones away. Shi-kyung comes by and she asks him not to resent oppa too much, because there must be a reason they don’t know about. Shi-kyung agrees, still trusting Jae-ha despite it all. Aw.

He asks if she’s not going to sing anymore, reminding her that she used to, all the time. She takes that as a cue to sing now, and he stammers awkwardly that he didn’t mean now. Ha. She tries to remember the song she first sang to him, but can’t recall it, so he helps her out.

He sings the first line, and his voice startles her, so she pretends not to know how the rest of it goes, and he ends up singing the first verse for her, as she plays along. She takes him downstairs where the acoustics are better and hands him a microphone, wanting to record him.

She says that if he does well she’ll debut him as a singer, and when he balks, she promises not as an idol. Heh. She asks if he wants to sing it as a duet then (Yes please!), but he refuses, and starts to walk out.

She asks if he hates her that much—she confessed her feelings, and she’s working so hard, but he won’t give her the time of day. He tells her that what she feels is curiosity and nothing more, because they’re so different.

He says that she’s right about him being no fun, and when she gets to know him, the shininess of the new toy will wear off, and she’ll be sick of him. She swears that’s not it, but he tells her to stop messing with him: “I don’t want to become a plaything.”

She says she’ll ask him one thing then: Is it because she’s disabled? He answers right away that it’s not that, he swears. She starts to cry as she supposes that even if it were, she couldn’t do anything about it.

She asks one final thing: She sang that song to him just once, so how did he remember it? Is he a genius? He says, voice trembling, that it’s because the princess sang it (aww), and walks out before she can ask any more questions.

Hang-ah heads to Somalia with the queen mother to do charity work, and Mom gives her a purse as a gift on the way. They get relocated to a different hotel because the place they had originally booked just got blown up in a terrorist attack. UM. Red flag, anyone?

Thankfully it’s enough of a red flag to send them back home in the morning, but they’re here for the night. The staffer heads down in the elevator, where she sees a woman with a strange tattoo…

Mom sighs that she really wanted to see one of the children who had barely made it last time, who lost his mother to tuberculosis.

Hang-ah says that her mother died of the same, because a penicillin shot cost as much as a kilogram of rice, and she could never afford it. She doesn’t say this with any heaviness—just matter-of-factly—adding that she and Dad moved to Pyongyang soon after, and there were plenty of vaccines.

Mom takes her hand and asks what kind of person her mother was. Hang-ah says she was so young so her memories are faded, but her mother was a translator, and would read her stories at night, like Gulliver’s Travels.

Mom says that Hyun-joo (Jae-kang’s wife) called her “mother,” and that here when a mother and daughter-in-law are close, they just become mom/daughter. She tells her to call her “mother” instead of “her majesty.” Aw.

Hang-ah lights up, and tries it out awkwardly. Mom laughs, “Minus the accent.” They hold hands and laugh.

But this is no time for laughter, because Mia and her band of assassins are already here, shooting their way down the hall. They take out the guards and knock on Mom’s door posing as room service.

But Mom’s no dummy—she would be escorted by secret service if everything was on the up and up, and she scrambles for the phone. But the lines have been cut. She runs to her cell phone, but before she can make a call, Mia’s standing right behind her with a smile.

One of the secret service manages with his last breath to pull the fire alarm, which sends a stampede through the lobby. It’s enough to make Hang-ah pause, and she comes out of the bathroom cautiously.

She comes out to find Mom sitting on the couch at gunpoint. Her eyes widen. But then I love how her look changes when another gun gets trained on her—she looks over at it like it’s a fly challenging her patience.

But clearly she can’t risk getting the queen mother killed in a hostage stand-off.

Shi-kyung wakes Jae-ha up in the middle of the night to deliver the bad news—both Hang-ah and Mom are missing. He tries calling her, to no avail. (I love that he’s saved her number as Hang-ahr-ie, turning her name into a homophone for “vase” but meaning “lovesick-for-Hang-ah.”)

Bon Bon pays her hired help, and then promptly shoots them in the back, for her hostages to see. Damn. Then they get loaded onto a plane.

Jae-ha gets briefed that there are no ransom demands, and the two accomplices have been killed. Shi-kyung says that another kidnapper was caught on film, but only from the back—she had a barcode tattoo.

He immediately remembers that detail from Shi-kyung’s investigation into Mia. Shi-kyung confirms that Club M is the likeliest suspect. Jae-ha realizes that Bong-gu is going after his people, one by one. And Bong-gu purposely ignores all his calls, wanting Jae-ha to fry a little longer.

Meanwhile Hang-ah and Mom get moved to one of Bong-gu’s lairs. Hang-ah eats diligently, and assures Mom that the food isn’t poisoned—if they wanted them dead, they’d be dead—and tells her that she has to do the same to keep up her strength if they’re going to escape. Nice.

But Mom is scared witless, and says that Hang-ah might be able to because she’s a soldier, but she’s too frightened to try. Hang-ah tells her they have to try something, anything, to help the king.

Bong-gu interrupts to make his grand entrance, and Hang-ah recognizes him right away. She puts out her hand, “Kim Bong-gu-shi.” Ha. I love it. He pretends not to be bothered by it and squarely ignores her, and she totally smirks.

He goes straight for Mom, asking her to join him for tea, and when Hang-ah objects, Mia hauls her away at gunpoint.

Hang-ah’s father has come down to help Jae-ha, and confirms the Club M suspicion. I’m so glad he’s here, if only so he can witness this next scene:

Jae-ha asks Shi-kyung if he’s still getting the runaround from Bong-gu. “Whatever it takes. You know, right? Tell them I’ll do everything. I can go there myself, or lie down and beg. I can do it.”

Dad looks up at him. Shi-kyung whispers a protest. Jae-ha: “It’s Hang-ah. Hang-ah and Mom. You know my mom. She won’t last.”

Mom is currently cowering in fear over tea with Bong-gu. He sits watching her for a while, and then calls her “mother,” like he really does think he and Jae-ha are friends.

He comes closer and says that she reminds him of his mom, though his mom abandoned him to run her bar, tossing him in boarding schools and expecting he’d grow up okay. But even Bong-gu knows that what he really craved was his mother’s love.

He says he really was a good kid, so she should feel sorry for him. Aw, Poor Widdle Psycho. There, there.

He gets to the heart of the matter: Mom should tell Jae-ha to give up the throne already. He oozes with compliments for how dignified she is, noting that his own mother was so different, so crude.

Finally Mom opens her mouth, “Crude? How can a child call his own mother crude?” Hahahaha. Are you in trouble now? Daebak. And it just gets better.

She totally chastises him like a child, for blaming his parents for his own flaws, for claming a rough childhood when most people who endure hardship are better for it. “I am Jae-kang-ie’s mom! The mother of the man you killed. Even if you paid for your crime and then knelt to beg for forgiveness, it would be lacking!”

But instead he’s holding her here, and for what—to use her as bait against Jae-ha? “Do I, does the royal family, seem that easy?” She stands up. Oooh nice. He stands up and sneers that he was trying to be nice, but she just blows up at him.

“Fine. Kill me. Go ahead and kill me. Kill me! Do you think my children will flinch at the likes of you?! I’M going to take revenge on you! For our Jae-kang, our Hyun-joo, our Jae-shin’s legs, our Hang-ah’s baby. Even if I fall into hell itself, I’m going to take you with me as I go!”

So. Badass. And then she HITS HIM, with her tiny mom fists. I LOVE IT.

She goes to town, letting loose a barrage of swears and insults, asking how his mother gave birth to such rotten trash like him and still ate seaweed soup, as she hits him over and over. See, Mom, you’re plenty strong. You just had to get in touch with your inner rage.

Jae-ha finally snaps that he can’t take it anymore, and decides to just storm over there himself. Shi-kyung pleads with him to stop—this is exactly what they want, for him to go crazy and out of control. He calms down and gives Shi-kyung ten more minutes to get him through to Bong-gu.

Secretary Eun has locked himself away at home, and hasn’t answered any of his son’s thousand calls. But he does see the text that Hang-ah and the queen mother have been kidnapped, and takes Jae-ha’s call.

Jae-ha says nothing—all he does is dial and then listen. But Secretary Eun humbly offers his advice: to use Bong-gu’s international influence against him. Basically if he alerts the U.S. and China of Bong-gu going off the deep end, it’ll cut him off from major powers, and he’ll have to back down. He advises that Jae-ha stay calm, cold, and rational, and act decisively.

Exposition Minion tells Bong-gu that Jae-ha’s gone through diplomatic channels and for some reason, the U.S. and China frown upon the kidnapping of royals. Who knew? Bong-gu sighs that Jae-ha’s gotten smart, and agrees to a meeting.

Jae-ha goes to see Bong-gu, who plays dumb about the whole kidnapping, even as Jae-ha offers to do whatever he asks if he just lets them go. He says he’ll postpone the wedding, and Bong-gu finally says that IF he had kidnapped them—purely hypothetically, of course—then a measly broken engagement wouldn’t be the right price, would it?

Jae-ha asks what would be. “Your resignation.” His eyes widen. Bong-gu blathers on about who would take his place then, ruling Jae-shin out in her condition, and mentioning a sixth cousin. “Isn’t politics not your kind of thing anyway? It’s dirty.”

He suggests with a smile that he should gather up his loved ones and go live on an island in comfort, and leave the politics to others. He walks off, leaving Jae-ha reeling.

Bong-gu walks out, smiling as he passes by Shi-kyung. Aw, it’s Cookies and his unrequited love. Shi-kyung runs in to check on Jae-ha, who spends the entire journey back in silence.

He washes his face and comes out of the bathroom to find Hang-ah just sitting there, waiting for him. The lighting changes as he comes upon her, so this has to be a dream. She comes closer, and they look at each other with such loving eyes, and he asks, “This is a dream, right?”

She cups his face in her hands, and he clasps onto her hands with tears in his eyes, hugging her in desperate relief.

But then he notices a strange expression on her face, and asks why. Hang-ah: “Take care to eat well. And don’t forget to exercise.” He starts to cry and asks what’s happening.

She just keeps going, “Every sadness is just for a time. Because it’ll all pass someday.” And then she takes his hand.

Suddenly Mom calls out for Hang-ah, and she goes to join her. He tries to hold on, but she pulls away from his grasp. And then he looks up and they’re gone.

He’s left screaming, “Mom! Hang-ah-ya! Mom! Hang-ah-ya!” it startles him awake in a cold sweat.

Bong-gu’s minion shows Hang-ah a video of Bon Bon playing bloodthirsty hairdresser with Mom, and tells her to persuade the king to comply with their demands.

Meanwhile Shi-kyung is trying to do the very opposite with a scared and desperate Jae-ha. He can’t abdicate the throne and play right into their hands! But Jae-ha’s last nerve has cracked, and he asks why not.

He breaks down, “What if they really kill Hang-ah and Mom? I’m not that strong a person.”

*whimper*

He says that he’s lasted this long on obstinate pride, but he can’t do it anymore. They’re going to die. “I didn’t even want to be king! Why do I have to hold onto this seat while Mom and Hang-ah die??”

Shi-kyung has no words to make it right. Jae-ha tells him he’s sorry, but he’s going to live comfortably now, intending to give it all up.

Hang-ah watches as Mia threatens Mom with all manner of torture, and finally caves. “I’ll convince the king… to resign.” Minion tells her he’ll set up the video, but Hang-ah turns to him with a scheming glint in her eye.

“I’ll do it in person. Don’t you think it’ll be more convincing face-to-face?”

COMMENTS

Yay for the return of life and death stakes and heroic moments for everyone. I just about lost it when Mom talked down to Bong-gu like a misbehaving child and then wailed on him with all her momness. It was So. Awesome.

Bong-gu really stepped it up as a villain in a big, big way, and I’m ecstatic about that, for the sake of the story. There’s been enough messing about and pulling hair and getting in little jabs on both sides. Time for the real fight.

And as much as Bong-gu has his fatal flaws, he really is brilliant as an adversary, because he’s managed to take away the one thing that gave Jae-ha his confidence—his trust in his people. Jae-ha taunts him with that one thing Bong-gu will never have, so he deals that blow to Secretary Eun. Which is really just aimed at Jae-ha, because it levels his sense of trust in his people. And then just when he clutches onto Hang-ah for dear life as the only person he can trust, Bong-gu yanks her away from his side.

I love that this episode is filled with shots of Jae-ha in the foreground with Shi-kyung standing behind him in the background. There’s no fanfare about it, but he’s just always there. It’s telling that of all people, it’s Shi-kyung he apologizes to, when he’s at the end of his rope and about to give up the throne. It’s like Shi-kyung’s trust is what gives that position any meaning. This episode had great moments for both couples—Shi-kyung’s accidental confession that he memorized every note of that song, and Jae-ha and Hang-ah getting to such a supportive, honest place—but it was the bromance that really did me in. When they had words over Dad and Jae-ha was trying to protect Shi-kyung by being the bad guy and Shi-kyung continued to trust him anyway? I kind of swooned. I can’t help it! They’re just so perfect for each other!

Jae-ha’s emotional progression just in this episode alone, ripped me up good and proper. When his betrayal turned to fear, and that fear multiplied turned to desperation and despair? It kills me that he’s ready to give it all up, but I know that his people won’t let him. Hang-ah will kick ass, and Shi-kyung will find the words. Right? RIGHT?

I did love CH but I wasn't as active in making comments here in DB & soompi compared to TK2H so I went back and check how was the CH's number of reviews. It's got pretty good numbers of comments, Ep18 1,207 total & 1,055 for Final Ep but holy guacamole! TK2H Ep 16 already has 1,592! I wonder if I'd be able to catch up after the final episode aired! :D But I still don't want it to end though :( I realized that will be next week! *crying bucket of tears*

Anyone know anything about Samantha Daniel, who plays Bon Bon? I actually enjoy the scenes she is in, she is fun to watch, and unlike many other English-speaking actors in dramas, she can actually act.
Unlike that Australian actor who is KBG's right hand. He really needs a better haircut.

Considering Our earnest bot, most probably he is trying to freeing Queen Mother and Hang Ah by him self..*denying all possibility he is betraying Jae Ha, if yes, than who change the program to the earnest bot! Reset him! Now!

My take is, SK might try to get inside Club M, -he was propositioned by Bonggu before - so that he can help the king and somehow atone for his father's sins. SK will probably get killed - sacrifice himself for the Monarchy. He feels compelled to pay back his fathers crimes, I guess.

I hate to imagine this but perhaps BonBon and the toupee guy will die too. we an speculate whatever at this point.

The preview show Hang AH jumping on some guy and getting slapped? Ouch -

The look of SK face is so sad....I think he found out what his dad has done.

I hope Hang Ah's dad deployed the WOC team to the rescue.

Let's which of our speculations will turn up when we watch epi 17th.

LOL we might as well learn to write our own drama -- hey that's a thought... how about dramabeans club -(us all) write a drama- we can brainstorm a story line and each can contribute to the script- why with all of our ideas and imaginations combined, we might be able to come up with a story that will rival K2H. We have very good writers here - Girlfriday and Koala and all the commentators.
Let us all vote to put LSG in the lead and HJW leading lady, and put all our favorite actors in our drama.
-- just a silly idea - but then it all starts from an idea right???

I hope not. Read somewhere that he was supposed to get killed off protecting Jae Ha in episode 19, but that the script has been changed. That doesn't mean he will not die, but... gives me a little hope.

"Read somewhere that he was supposed to get killed off protecting Jae Ha in episode 19, but that the script has been changed"

That's good news if indeed the script has been changed so Shi Kyung wouldn't die (or anyone else except the baddies). That's too much for me to handle if they're going to kill him *sniffles*

Thank you Girlfriday for this recap.

Such an awesome episode. I don't think I've been this amazed and satisfied with a drama before. I'm sure a lot of people already mention it seeing the number of comments here (Wow)..

How can all of the characters be so awesome yet still feel human? Well, not all of them, but the Royal Family + soon to become family (Hang-ah & Shi-Kyung) is simply the best family ever! They are relatable, heartwarming and truly inspiring. And both men and women kick ass in this drama.

I seriously love the portrayal of human relationship in this drama. Jae-ha and Hang-ah represents what a real couple should be. They learn through mistakes, they're honest with each other without any pride between them, they share everything and become each other's great support. And like a lot of you have already mentioned, the in-laws in this drama are the best thing ever happen in kdrama history. Really heartwarming. And Jae-ha's relationship with Sec. Eun gets to me also especially in this episode. The fact that Jaeha said he can understand Sec. Eun's first mistake behind Jae-kang's death is heartbreaking. Then when he called Sec.Eun after that and Sec.Eun picked up his call when he didnt even answer his own son's call, and knew immediately that its Jaeha and gave advise to him, it breaks my heart even more. Then Queen mom scolding Bonggu, that other children didnt turn out like him, and he shouldn't blame his parents is a great reminder for any child out there.

Initially, it came to me also, that Jae-ha should not have provoke Bonggu and told him that his strength is his people because now he cause danger on them. But thinking back, how should Jae-ha reacted to him then. Even if he didnt anger Bonggu, Bonggu will still do everything to threaten Jaeha and that include his family. I think he doesnt dare to hurt/kill Jaeha like he did to Jaekang because killing the king twice will be too obvious and risky.

After everything that's Jae Shin and Shi Kyung went through, they deserve a happy ending, they truly do.

Oh gosh I hope the K-Hearties who read this rumor have already sent "love" letters / emails to PD Lee & Writer Hong. And hope Writer Hong re-wrote ep 20 script and give the Hearties the ending we truly deserve :D

The other Hong sisters re-wrote the ending of MGIAG because the viewers wanted Hoi Hoi couple to have happy ending.

@glo
I thanks for the address, I will be writing them a fan letter telling them how much we love K2H and to produce more dramas starring Lee Seung Gi.
They should know Hallyu is invading N America and that there are folks like you and I who ditched hollywood and mainly follow Korean produced dramas and movies.
and also to request that they make a director's cut for K2H and make it available in English and we can order it thru Amazon or Yes Asia.
Now, if there is a thousand requests like this, maybe they will do it?

I swear to god when YJ died in CH i was bawling my eyes out.
BUT their relationship is by no means as in-depth as jae ha's & earnest.
I swear to god, there were too many bromance scenes..
And they just love each other so much.
If he died unnecessarily i don't know if i'll be emotionally prepared for the 'happy' ending, if there is one.
I think we all know this show doesn't try to appease to the fans too much.. T___T which makes me super nervous.

Hello hearties!!

I found the movie "COUPLES" (i think it was in dramacrazy .net) and it has Jae Shin (sorry- i forgot her real name) in there . It's a really nice movie. Try watching that to bide the time til episode 17th.

I was thinking this morning-- while walking to work..you know the actor who was LMH's father (adoptive vengeful father in City Hunter) - he is a great actor and so cool and hot.
My dream would be for him to do a drama with LSG - he could be LSG's dad in a drama???
He is Uhm TW's "biological Father in Equator man- but he is so under-used in that drama.

This is my first time watching a drama live and I was thinking how I should've waited to watch this drama when it is done cause the wait for the next episode is so torturous, but then I realized that if I had waited I would have missed out on such a great experience ...sharing (unfortunately not so much by me) and being a part of such a diverse and intellectual group of people as if i am in a drama club analyzing and discussing each episode as it appears. I am usually quite shy and am not as good with my words as you folks are therefore I have not posted as much but I just wanted to let everyone here know that you folks always seem to put a smile on my face :-) Thanks!!!

Plus, everyone here is awesome.
Always would like to welcome new voices! (even if you were always a silent lurker.) There is too much in this drama that we all need to observantly and skillfully dissect..ninja style.
All the good bits cannot go to waste! Too much appreciation for this team.

Yeah, watching live is painful but it's also amazing. This is the first show I've watched live and I feel like I'm really a part of a community, in addition to analyzing the show to death because I have nothing to do for the 6 days in between airings. I've been watching some older kdramas to help speed the time between K2H days, and I find myself really missing the group discussions we're able to have on dramabeans. Watching live with you all has really enhanced my experience of this show, truly.

and I found that discussing this drama here in Dramabeans is more interesting and exciting. Partly that's because Dramabeans always gives such a rich and deep analysis that mostly I can't find anywhere else. And another reason is of course because this drama is uber cool, rich in many aspects, and wonderful.

and I'm glad to "meet" many great kdrama viewers that actually make good comments and in-depth analysis here! your comments make me enjoy this drama even more, really

And even if it's hell waiting for the next episode to come out, we're not alone cause everybody's having a hard time waiting, too. LOL. That's why this thread is bursting at the seams cause everybody's antsy and angsty waiting for the next episode.

Aside from the main OSTS we've been hearing throughout the drama :
Decided that OST "Flaming Heart" is such an emotionally heartbreaking/epic song (amongst the ones they've released) Everytime it plays it will forever remind me of the time Jae Ha doubted himself and was on the verge of giving up, and earnest tearing up with him.
Dead line and Breach are also nice action OSTS that gets me prepped to be on edge.

Talking about his dimples, I remember in an earlier episode's comments, some said they were so distracted by his dimples that they couldn't concentrate on the drama. I'd just LOL'd at that. THEN, it happened to me in this episode too. That fab scene when JH shouted "you're a traitor!" to Sec Eun, I found myself staring at that super duper cute dimple on his left, close to his lips and all of a sudden the tension in that scene just vaporised. Had to tell myself, focus, focus, get back into the mood! LOL!

Yeah, "It's my destiny" was cheesy, but there's something about the next line (thankfully not uttered by anyone - yet- in TK2H): "I loved him/her more than life itself." I suppose that can be wonderfully romantic, but I haven't found a time it was used that I thought that.

My song for them would be "It Is You (I Have Loved)" by Dana Glover (from Shrek). Love, love the melody, and the words fit nicely, too. Some lines from it:

"Over and over, I'm filled with emotion. Your love, it rushes through my veins. And I am filled with the sweetest devotion, as I look into your perfect face.

It's no more mystery. It is finally clear to me. You're the home my heart searched for so long. It is you I have loved all along."

There's mention of his heart, and the veins made me think of his hands. :)

Yes. You guessed it. TK2H. See here: http://tryp96.wordpress.com/2012/05/14/tk2hs-rankings-on-download-sites/

Have to review ep. 14 again to see why it's the most popular one. (Ep. 15 & 16 are newer so that figures.)

I was looking at some of the earlier episodes when HA had her hair side-parted, bangs to the side and not showing. She looked awesome and the hair style really emphasized her boldness, military stance, and kick-ass attitude. When she started to live at the palace, she had her bangs, showing off her doe-like eyes. This played up her soft, girly side. Not sure which I like better......

I definitely like LSG's short hair cut. Makes him look less puppyish, more manly.

Yesyes. i noticed while at the palace she did have those 'straight-across' bangs. i really liked it because it gave her more of a soft and feminine touch. It's nice.
But i do also notice whenever she gets to kick butt she does have her bangs to the side. even when she had to save jae ha in ep12.
I think i remember seung gi saying he lost weight for this drama.
So he's not as chubby in the face region? but i like how his hair is out of his face def. transformation.. oh he cleans up nicely.

Safe to say that the next (few) episodes will be rough. Preview's also making me really tense. So gonna concentrate on happy thoughts, happy thoughts....like JH and HA's reunion after the kidnapping. It's gonna be more epic than the proposal scene, post-bombing scene, lap and dream scene, I bet! Can't wait! Perfect set up for passionate kiss?

Oh my heart …
Till now I was able to come to term with Shi Kyungs possible death. Till now …
One nearly sleepless night and about thirty horrific imagined death scenes later I finally left the more or less impartial view of a writer and decide to join the "let-him-live" party.

So, dear writer(s), feel free to put our Earnest into any dangerous situation (for the sake of my drama-loving heart), give him as much as possible time on screen, you even can shot him. But then …

… let him wake up in the hospital. And the first thing he sees is Jae Shin's beautiful face, tired from being sleepless by his side, but smiling and eyes filled with tears of happiness about him alive.

Only this way I can avoid my heart being ripped into pieces and any more sleepless nights, simultaneously my need for dramatic events will be satisfied.

Bong Gu and Mia (Bon Bon) shouldn't die as well in my opinion. That would be like an easy escape. They should pay for their wrongdoings otherwise.

Dear writer(s), feel free to try to kill our heroes again in TK2H season 2. ;)

I don't want to offend you but I bet almost 80% of the hearties are professional and or intellectual people. If not, why would they like this drama? This is not everybody's cup of tea. This drama needs analyzing, thinking out of the box, and reading in between the lines. I'm proud to be one of those people who enjoys this type of drama.

In reply to your "if this drama so phenomenal why in this site shared by kumon still lost with antoher drama, especially the drama with dropped rating. u’ve said there are sooo mannnyyy hearties. where they are?" that's all that matters.

@miaw:
Please don't feel offended, maybe you're right, this drama isn't everybody cup of tea...
the difference between this drama and other drama is you can't just jump off the train to understand it.^^ You can't get the motivation of each character by jump off the episodes and fast forwarding scenes, this drama isn't made to done so... There is little hint in each episode, there is new issue submerge in every episode, this is a drama that you need to enjoy by each minute and each second

What make this drama phenomenal is, The drama need you to 'read between lines', to observe each little gesture, to relating it with real situation out there, it's a drama that make you realize something if you don't mind to invest your little time to think it again. Yes, it's not just a drama that makes you cry 'bohoooo' and later forgot it, but it makes you cry after you understand why he/she finally cry, and you'll remember it.

And I'm sorry Miaw, what I see from the facebook link, i don't see any merit for this drama topped. Most of the drama 'win'-borrow the term lost from you- in the poll is 'idol' dramas, (I'm sorry if I offend any of you, dramabeaners too). Though I'm 'like' it, what's the merit of win it?^^

That just my two cents, I'm not representing as a hearties, but my own personal opinion. Please don't feel offended :)

and this is why i love k2h! daebak fans :D

Really, i've seen so many dramas full of fluff but this just aint one of them. but that doesn't mean that the writers are skimping out on the cute and the romance. Moreover, i'm pretty sick of conflicts abused by other dramas (company wars, unaccepting inlaws, ya know the makjang machinations). So for me, K2H gives me so much freshness because it takes conflicts to whole levels and depths. it's literally 'us against the world'.

0

Heartie here! :)
I dont want to offend anyone but I agree with reglest that Idol drama are nailing it on FB and in my point of view I think that they have maybe more fan power from young people connected to FB and everything..
I just want to say I'm a new crazy fan of Lee Seung Gi from now on. This drama is so amazing. Everything is new and we didn't get all the cliches we usually get in other dramas.. That's why I like it so much. It's so surprising and just has everything from comedy to romance, suspens and action, etc.
Don't get me wrong, I love other kdramas too and I am currently watching Queen In Hyun's Man, Feast of the Gods etc. But K2H is the only one making me addicted like that and not screaming at my screen because I dont like one or two scenes..
Anyway I just try to say that you just have to watch the drama for yourself and if you don't like it's fine. Everyone has his own taste.. but why question the number of hearties ? Why question why so much comments there are on dramabeans ? People here just love to discuss and dissect K2H thats all! ~Didn't mean to offend. Peace :)

"And through this drama too, we learn that rating isn’t all about. We just love this drama from the core."

How true! We surely do.

@miaw

We're NOT SWAYED by any ratings because we THINK for ourselves and we don't jump on the bandwagon of a drama just because it has the highest rating. We enjoy and relish this drama because it makes us think on a deeper level. It does not dumb us down and spoonfeed whatever the drama wants us to feel and think. This drama is cerebral so not a lot of people will dig it. But for us who did, we surely found our crack that's why we can't stop dissecting and deconstructing it. We take joy in finding hidden meanings in every aspect of this drama.

You said you watched it and doesn't understand what's the big deal about it. Maybe you're watching it on a superficial level. Or your brain is not yet ready for an atypical kdrama where cliches are thankfully absent. Or it's just not for you. Your loss, by the way.

If you check the streaming ratings from a paid site in Korea, this drama is number 1, much mooore higher than others.
Here's the rating for episode 16.

Simply put, King 2 Hearts has a lot of depth, which makes it very fun to analyze and discuss. I find that I don't feel my viewing experience of each episode is "complete" until I've unpacked and analyzed it. Because of that, this drama isn't an "easy" watch or something that is purely for entertainment. Additionally, K2H has some of the best, most complex, most realistic characterizations and relationships of any show I've watched (Korean or otherwise). The thing that makes it so brilliant, to me, is that each of the characters are multifaceted. They have their strengths, they have their flaws, but ultimately they grow and evolve and because of this, the characters (especially the main characters) are heroes in their own right. The sense of richness and depth is true for every single one of the non-villainous characters: from second leads down to more minor characters.

I actually came into the show not particularly liking Lee Seung-gi, so you can't say I was very biased at the outset. I was/am a huge fan of Ha Ji-won, which is one of the main reasons I started watching. I've been a fan of many actors/actresses, though, who've starred in shows that I couldn't slog through--no matter how great they were.

K2H is definitely not everyone's cup of tea. It's a bit intellectual and offbeat for some, I think. But for those who are interested in a show that encourages you to think and analyze, it's basically candy. Add to that some INCREDIBLE performances (in addition to the writing, ever-evolving and incredibly heartwarming (as well as heartrending) relationships, true character development (to the point where I honestly feel PROUD of practically every single main character basically every week--how often does that happen?!), a swift and unapologetic plot, and enough action to get your heart pounding, and I think there's more than enough reason to fall in love with this show.

No problem, it's a fair question!

There have been many theories and explanations for that in this thread and others, but it basically boils down to: the North-South Korean relations being increasingly tense; the genre of "dark intellectual comedy" not having as wide appeal as, say, your typical rom-com or revenge drama; and the audience for this show skewing younger, more international, and therefore more likely to watch online than for the other shows. You'll find that King 2 Hearts is by far the most googled, downloaded, and watched-online drama out of Rooftop Prince and Equator Man. It's also been noted that all three Wednesday-Thursday dramas are excellent in their own right, so there's very stiff competition in that time slot.

actually Miaw, your 1st question is really fair, thus I and others try to answer it with fair statement too. :)

But your statement in 278.1.1 and 278.1.1.1 is absolutely out of reason, thus not related at all. Because first you ask about comments, and later about the number of hearties and facebook pooling^"^....

Miaw -- honey. this is a question that someone would ask in an episode 3 recap or something. It seems you don't have any interest or patience in this drama so regularly someone like you might've already dropped the drama by ep. 4 -- that is, if you even started.

Since you're curious, i'm going to be totally honest and explain how i feel to you in my perspective, without trying to sound insensitive. this is just my mind speaking. I'm also going to just blame this on a bit of ignorance. D: But it's alright, we're here to educate you.

I'm gonna start off by saying that I have been an avid k-drama watcher many many years ago and have probably watched a number of k-dramas that probably equals your grammy's age.
So, from my experience, i tend to go more for plot and storyline, characters, relationships, cinematography, execution.. Because if you've watched that many dramas you want to look for for something SPECIAL.. something original. K2H is that and more than i could ask for because it is the whole package despite some flaws.
If you have been watching up to until 16 at this point, then you would know that this drama is unlike typical dramas.. Which probably explains the low ratings in south korea -- it shows the harsh truths and north/south relations are something they can't handle. Alot of us have already discussed this in earlier recaps, if you want to go back and see.
Also, ratings does not equal quality. (Ex. Boys before flowers was loadsssss of fun to watch and was very popular amongst everyone. Sadly, the quality was not that great. For me, i know how to categorize the popular yet so-so quality, and the more understated dramas with so much emotion and beauty crafted within it.)
You're probably wondering why there are SO many comments without even reading many of the good ones.
It is without a doubt that seung gi has alot of fans that follow his dramas..However,once again, im going to blame it on ignorance.. if you have been following K2H fanbase, you'd realize alot of us like to analyze every little bit of detail. that might explain the mad number of comments.
We appreciate everything the writer includes in their story. If you have been following this thread, you'd be surprised by how much effort they put into it.
Sorry i'm saying "if you have been following this thread" so many times, but it really is something to educate you so you're not at a loss. This drama's great, but i understand that you are one of those that don't think this is their cup of tea.
And the people following this drama, as some have said earlier, are very intelligent speakers, and even those who can't speak english well join in. It's inevitable. I think the sense of community that dramabeans tries to create is ALIVE in this thread.
Because we all think of each other as family in this thread, we build on each other's thoughts and just sort of connect one thing to another.. (think roots stemming from tree)
I hope my thoughts were insightful to you and helped educate you in better understanding why we all love this drama so much.
Ratings aside, Bias to cast aside, (these are such things that should not matter at THIS point)
Think of it this way.. if people were mad about this drama for the cast, the love for this drama should sizzle down by now..(we're nearing the end) yet.. why is there an INCREASING number of comments from the earlier episodes? K2H is getting better and better.
Fun fact: majority of the people following this thread and actively commenting are people in their 20's.
I know, surprising. There's all sorts of ahjummas! engaged ahjummas, married ahjummas.. you catch my drift. Although age does not equal wisdom, i'm just saying that it's not all a bunch of lee seung gi fangirls that like this drama only for him. Surely, there is too much in this drama that ties our love together and makes our love for him stronger. Trust me, i watched Brilliant legacy and My girlfriend is a gumiho and i didn't fall in love with him until this drama, so it should say something, considering this drama is the LESSER popular one out of all 3.
All in all, i'm saying there's so much more beyond your question of ratings, bias of main cast, etc.
There's wonder and beauty in the craft of relationships, family, characters.. and the acting GETS you.
It just satisfies all our needs in wanting something different for once in k-drama land. You understand that now.

@miaw,

Ratings - the current system is obsolete!
I am commenting for the first time in my 2 years of korean drama watching - i am into it believe me and have watched mostly the most popular ones and I have posted one or two comments about it on the site (I only watch online because I live in N.America and cannot access Korean TV)
But, this is my first time commenting on dramabeans where I read the recaps - again this a first for me - I don't usually read the recaps and previews until K2H.
I started to read the comments as well and because I have so many emotions and reactions about this particular drama, I started to post my own thoughts last week. Here I am, at the edge of my seat...waiting for episode 17.
I thought it was enough to post my thoughts - but it turned out to be a chat room instead and now it's become like a book club. I am impressed because my thoughts and feelings were mirrored and echoed by other commenters here. I am not a fan of anybody - however - getting to know Lee Seung gi because he did variety shows, dramas, and singing etc - one can't escape. I turned into a "fangirl" (a new word for me) for LSG. He has become a real actor in this drama for me. He has embodied Lee Jae Ha character so well that I don't know if I am fangirling Lee jae ha instead- lol.
Having watched so many korean dramas( i am not Korean), I can already guess the pattern of the story - so its easy to just skip the silly scenes and just enjoy the "eye candy" actors/actresses in it. I has become a mindless exercise. Which I don't mind because I watch Korean Dramas just to entertain myself and to replace hollywood produced tv/movies which I dislike now bec. too much sex and violence. I like the romance and Asian sensibilities and family themes depicted in kdramas and its a way fo r me to learn about other cultures and peoples. Prior to Kdramas, I was into East Indian movies, then Japanese, Middle Eastern stories, Chinese etc, of course Hollywood and British dramas. I like good stories whether in the medium of movies/dramas or books.

Right now, my thing is kdramas - and at this moment K2H has captured my interest 100 %. It is a good story, wonderfully acted, and scripted. I like everything about it even the sound track. There is enough in the story line to discuss and argue and speculate about.

I am so thrilled that I found this site where there are kindred spirits that I can talk to. My hubby is not into dramas and my children are too young to converse with me about this. This is a mature topic because of the political element in the story.

As a woman, I am always looking for a sweet romantic story - it doesn't matter your age- love is a universal theme.

Relationships and character study is also a great topic for discussion.

All of these elements are contained in this wonderful drama called K2H.

And I can't say enough of the people who are currently sharing this "club K2H" with me. I don't know you from Adam but I have welcomed you to my world.

nice meeting you miaw.

One thing is that I haven't encountered a rude person here yet. I don't usually post comments if I read very rude and ignorant comments on a particular site.

Social discourse can be had even in cyberspace as long as people don't throw manners because of anonymity.

Agreed with what all my comrades here had to say. That's what I luv about this thread, the many wonderful kindred souls here who are able to articulate the thoughts of those of us who are less articulate and who can only say, "yes, yes, you got it! You nailed it!" It just completes the enjoyment of tk2h.

"I thought it was enough to post my thoughts – but it turned out to be a chat room instead and now it’s become like a book club."
@luvs, that was what I thought too. This the new-age book club that transcends not only age and gender but race and nationality too! Thank you, technology!

@ ilikemangos @ Minea
Love what u wrote. Minea and you can both be my students any time! Would love to have such insightful and enthusiastic students. Was just complaining to MY students today that they are not insightful enough with their lit text. Most are very quiet during discussion or are shallow in their comments.

So I told them, 'Go and watch TK2H and then go to Dramabeans to read the wonderful recaps and amazing comments!' Truly I did. But I didn't enforce it... Think I will. Will make it a holiday assignment. Think they definitely learn something.

Then I asked one of them to name a favourite show/movie/drama. Guess what? She came up with BOF! When I asked why, she said cos the guys very good looking. I almost puked!

Definitely gonna make TK2H a holiday assignment!

when you're picking something GOOD to watch and you go for the ratings alone as your standard, then it's shallow, besides ratings dictates a very few households.. it doesn't mean that everyone in your country (or the country where the drama is being aired) watch the show. The question is : are you HAPPY with what you are watching?

We Hearties, are very much invested and involved in this drama not just beacause of our biases, not just beacuse it's an eye candy but because we learn so many things, we enjoy each other's point of view, and discussion. I find it rather amusing that you questioned our number. I admit, I am a Ha Ji Won bias, but of course, she is a talented actress, rare, a gem. I was never a fan of Seung Gi until this drama, but you see, many have come to like and love him because of his improvement, the drama showcased that there's more to him as a serious actor. This being said, we have different preference obviously, your take, my take.

that's all.

Do you realise that the producers of this show kinda of keep the best scenes from the spoilers? Let me explain. Remember when the trailer first came out? Most of us thought that it was going to be a rather serious and dark drama, but they surprised us in ep one with a tongue in cheek, funny and endearing episode, with tension and action.

Then they teased us with pics of Seunggi in a wetsuit, broad shoulders and all, but in ep 5, beyond our wildest dreams, they gave us Seunggi half naked in a bubble bath. Really didn't see that coming, as LSG fans know that our boy doesn't like to expose himself. It was unexpected but a deliciously, pleasant surprise!

They seduced us with the tingling neck kiss, bare-foot run in the snow hug and piano-playing scenes, but in ep 6 blew our minds with the hottest fridge kiss that left us delirious!

They showed us JH in a train with bouquet of flowers (that was a red herring) and told us that there was going to be a cherry blossom proposal, but they melted our hearts with JH's home-made 3 in 1 skin care, with the special words, 'I'm sorry', 'Thank u' and 'I love u'. AND the sweetest, most unique and true to character proposal in ep 12.

They announced and invited fans to an engagement party and showed us WOC moves, then sent our hearts on a roller coaster ride with the nail biting kidnapping, heart swooning lap hug and tear jerking JH dream in ep 16.

There may be some other such scenes that I have left out, but do you get my drift?

Something awesome I feel is awaiting us in the last 4 episodes. Just hope its the good kind of awesomeness, and not the heart-breaking kind.

aw yeah. this drama always gives us a twisted result. at first we thought it's gonna be a serious and dark and dull, but then it turns out to be the opposite *well, except the 'dark' part I guess*. And same thing with the characters and plot development. We thought it's gonna be a typical hero who loves and defends the heroine, but it didnt happen too!

thank you, my dear crazyajummafan, your explanation gives me hope!! *wednesday, you're only a day away, right????*

True, they tend to 'tease' us with earlier and surface scenes. I'm using the word 'tease, because the scenes actually doesn't tell much about the story but rather make us wondering what'll happen??

Thus, I don't care with how many spoilers I've got because the show will always surprise me no matter what. And TBH, this is my first time that I've no problem at all read recaps before watch the real show. Because this drama isn't just about plot, but lots of gesture, intonation, and if I may add pronunciation ;) which you don't want to miss or you can't imagine without watch the real show.

I'm praying hard for those GOOD awesomeness..please let the rumor I've mentioned before wrong*praying hard*

for me the rating is not that bad cause the gap is just 2-4% from leading one right..it is not like other dramas that it reaches even 20% gap from the top.. this drama tackles a very sensitive issue that we hearties dig in... some of us even search the net to gather facts which are presented in the drama.. :) So, if someone is wondering why there are a lot of comments in here try to watch my dear or read the recap of girlfriday from ep 1-16 then you will understand what's going on here and what's the effect of this drama to us... :)

Seunggi is so well known in Korea. This drama has propelled him into the international scene by leaps and bounds. He doesn't really need the ratings to be popular in Korea. Hope Steven Spielberg or some other director watches this show and offers him a Hollywood role.

0

@crazyajhummafan, I hope so too. Lee Byung Hun is slowly getting the recognition by Hollywood now. Rain will have Hollywood calling when his service is done. I loved Ninja Assassins which was before I even knew who Rain was.

0

@stressor: of course it is...because it's always in the top three, right? and although at first I was a bit disappointed, I realize that other dramas are just dramas, typical one. And I start to ignore the TV rating after one of the hearties here gives us a link to the internet rating! :D

you know what, my last statement is actually a response to silliest question in this thread *I bet you know which one, kkkkk* but the first time I saw that question, I decided I didnt have enough patience to give her any explanation, kkkk

0

@yellow buttercup haha we all know who she is... the poor young girl was bombarded with explanations to her so innocent question..:) i think she doesn't belong here, maybe she belongs to those girls obligated to watch drama because the lead is good looking/handsome just plain as that..:)

0

@ crazyajhummafan : I'd seriously would love for lee seung gi to be international but I hope not hollywood... i mean yeah, but it's not all that.
plus, asian roles are very stereotypical in that environment. did i mention it's overrated too.
i would love for him to take roles that are offbeat, challenging and can really show his talents.

one of my fave actors is tony leung (this guy is amazing) and unlike his peers i am really glad he didn't go in that direction and be stereotyped.
this guy could stand side by side with say the likes of a leonardo di caprio or a daniel day lewis, etc. and he didn't really need to come over here at this side of the hemisphere for me to get floored.

LOL. if our seung gi does go international or whatever... i know i'd still be a fan :)

I remember in one of the discussion in soompi to name 10 best memorable scenes and I didn't even bother to reply because there's too many to mention. I'll go crazy picking up just THE BEST 10, heck, every episode has so many memorable scenes ~ some are obvious and some are subtle. I just love all of them!

Oh agree, agree. This drama is full of surprise. If it's about fanservice to gain ratings, they would show us the half-naked seung gi in the bubble bath, the fridge kiss (if I'm not wrong, we saw the spoiler a day before it's aired), the three steps skin care, the BBQ kiss, and the heartbreaking dream sequence in the previews. So yes, I have faith that the writers won't disappoint us.

You are so right.. The sneaky buggas! Bits (and I mean bits) of scenes that fly by (and not necessarily in chronological order), voiceovers intermittently inserted (that often leave us wondering who said it), hints to major scenes left out. Do they have our curiosity piqued? That's a big "of course!" So then, I guess it's mission accomplished. Not that we need previews to watch the next episode, 'cause we'll watch it anyway. But they do keep us at the edge of our seats wondering, "What? Why? Who? When?" and "How in the world..?"

It's message #7300 (page 365) and vi4 posted instructions how to register to Daum & add our name onto the list on message #7304 (page 366). There is also a section for the overseas fans.

HEADLINE: WHO has declared that there is a new epidemic caused by the TK2H virus. This virus has spread to many countries including countries in North America, Europe and Asia. This epidemic has reached alarming levels as seen from the 1833 comments and more on drama beans. It has been reported that the symptoms of this TK2H virus are:

1. Think about TK2H from morning till night.
2. Replay skinship scenes between Lsg and Hjw for an infinite number of times.
3. Rewatch ep 1 to ep 16 for an indefinite number of times in between waiting for the next episode.
4. Listening to the OSTs the whole day.
5. Drooling over the hotness of lsg in suits and the white shirt tucked into gray pants.
6. Oohing and aahing at Lsg spoken English e.g "Drop the gun!"
7. Stalking all TK2H related websites and reading and commenting anything related to it.
8. Hoping strangers will talk about TK2h and bonding over it.
9. Watching old clips of 1n2d or any youtube videos related to lsg.
10. Almost zero Facebook participation since mid of March.
11. Missing deadlines at work or school.
12. Wishing Wednesday and Thursday will come faster but hating it too because that will mean the end of TK2H soon.

Scientists are trying to create a vaccine for this TK2H virus but so far there is no cure. They have suggested that those infected with TK2H virus join drama beans TK2H Anonymous after the drama ends to deal with the withdrawal symptoms.

I have a feeling that Queen Mom will attempt to hurt herself... and that's the secret BG wants to keep from JH since it's to BG's advantage NOT to hurt either the QM or HA. If he were to hurt one of the two hostages, it would more appropriately to be HA since the beast totally hates her (the loathing look the beast gave her when she stepped up pretending to exchange a handshake just to kick the shit out of him!)

For the rumors around the "I am king" thing, though I have yet any rationale, it just doesn't seem to fit the story line if it were to refer to JH and BG originals. At that time, BG was more of JK's age rather than JH's, so wouldn't it be a lil too obvious if someone were to switch their places? If that were to be the case, even, it would have to be JK.

Off course I wish of NO more damaging to the royal family. Enough tears have shed. Now we need butts kicking.

Also, I believe that SK is the only quietly brilliant enough to be JH's Billy Costigan so really not too worried over his loyalty :)

In a desperate attempt to make the time pass more quickly before the next episode is out, I've been thinking about our favorite characters (what else is new?) and was surprised to realize that I feel proud of basically every single main character (and many minor characters) at some point in practically every episode. How refreshing is it that the plot moves so swiftly that ALL of the characters are given a chance to shine so consistently? And I think the fact that each of the characters is so flawed makes this all the more effective.

Just when I think one of the characters is stagnant, they're given the impetus to grow. Not only that, but the flaws and the motivation to grow are tightly and consistently woven into the fabric of the show. Take, for example, the queen mother. Her (understandable) fear of Bong-gu and her desire to protect her remaining family has been a key element in her character for at least the past three episodes (coming to a head when she had broke down trying to convince Jae-ha to just let Jae-shin be, and to give up trying to pin down Bong-gu), and her tendency to support the status quo and protect her loved ones has been a part of her character from the start. Just when I thought that the writers were going to leave it at that--to continue with her being the awesome-mom-who-desperately-wants-to-protect-her-children and have her step back while Jae-ha and Hang-ah push the plot forward--she gets this incredible, character-defining moment where Bong-gu says JUST what is needed to push her buttons and offend her at her core. Even more brilliant, Bong-gu's impetus for bringing about this newfound bravery in the queen mother is written into the fabric of HIS character, which clearly lacks a mother figure and is like an unruly little boy (albeit one with access to the most expensive weapons and the strongest political powers in the world) desperate for a mother's attention, love, and validation.

Similarly, Kang-soek has evolved from a rigid, hot-tempered watchdog of North Korea (a key part of the plot from back in the WOC training days) into a man who is willing (begrudgingly, but still willing) to not only obey his South Korean team leader but also to swap armbands with an American soldier (who he had previously written off entirely) and to GIVE JH AND HA A STANDING OVATION AT THEIR ENGAGEMENT CEREMONY.

Sometimes I feel like the writer is composing a symphony rather than writing a drama. Yes, the plot elements of this show aren't perfect, but the way the characters push each other to learn and grow...it's akin to the different notes coming together to a crescendo in a Bach fugue or something.

Oh yes, mom. It's such a pleasure to have such a good actress to portrait what's mom all about. I can find resemblance with my mom as well, which means she's not just to play her part in the drama, but she also put raw emotions as well. Mom who stays with both foots on the ground when everything is falling around, mom who supports you when you need lap to cry, mom who looks at you when is time to shut up, mom who helps even when she don't know why, mom who accepts your decisions, mom who loves you're sweetheart because you love him/her, mom who cries when you're heart and mom you who'll fight with everything she got to keep you safe.

@rearwindow,
Great comment as always.
Just want to add my little bit about Kang-soek.

In the boat scene where both WOC teams were getting ready to leave but decided to do some team bonding, Kang-soek was muttering, okay, com'on, enough already. He's so cute. He looked embarrassed by the show of affection and thought it so unbecoming for a North officer. He was also a little jealous as at the point no one had approached him for any goodwill gesture yet (well, he CHOSE to stand off by the side himself!). And then that cute US soldier came to him, and you saw this relief expression on Kang-soek's face, like a wallflower finally being invited to the ball. The whole thing lasted not more than minutes, but the performance was so to the point and deepening his character.

Agreed with everything you said about the queen mother. The writers write so economically. One scene, two people, yet we learned so much.

Just recently there was a huge family feud in one of South Korea's most powerful chaebols. It's between brothers and sister-in-law I think. Also it's not unheard of in Asia's wealthiest families, siblings from different mothers fight for legitimacy, money and power. In Bong Gu's case, I think the father just collected his 'seeds' (offspring) and then basically let them grow up by themselves (well provided for of course). That's such a rich background in itself.

Thanks, AnnMichelle! Wonderful comment from you as well :). I love your description of Kang-soek's boat moment. It's true, there's so much subtlety and detail packed into that one scene! What a wonderful confluence of acting, writing, and directing that turns what could've been a throwaway "getting on the boat" shot into a defining moment for that character.

That's true of most of the show, in fact. Because there's so much detail in every scene, we're constantly getting these subtle, heartwarming, character-defining moments.

Thanks also for sharing about the recent chaebol feud. How fascinating! Being in the states, I'm so out of the loop on such things. Where did you hear about that? I think your analysis of Bong-gu's character and his background is spot-on. It is very interesting to me how the concept of family is explored in this drama--from the royal family with its tough but loving matriarch; to Bong-gu's father, who he literally destroyed in pursuit of more power/money; to Shi-kyung's complicated relationship with his father. Not to mention the "adopted" families that are springing up, with Hang-ah and Shi-kyung essentially aligning themselves with the royal family. It seems that a constant theme of K2H is the good that a community built on unconditional love can do for a person. Bong-gu lives in complete self-imposed isolation and his only relationships are those built on money, power and intimidation. I think that's part of what fascinates/infuriates him so much about Jae-ha and the people that Jae-ha has around him. They are seemingly resistant to all of Bong-gu's attempts at buying, manipulating or intimidating them. Even the little old queen mother won't put up with his shit.

This is from the Economic Times, 4/17/2012. I am sure there are juicier reports elsewhere.

[Quote] The chairman of South Korean giant Samsung Electronics on Tuesday vowed to go "all the way to the end" in lawsuits with his two siblings over vast family fortune, accusing them of being greedy.

"If they sue me, I will file counter-suits all the way to the end. I will not only go to the Supreme Court but also to the Constitutional Court even," Lee Kun-Hee, 70, the country's wealthiest man, told reporters.

He said he had no intention of giving "a single dime" to his brother and sister, adding that the matter of inheritance was settled long ago when their father was alive. [End quote]

Now I have an idea for actor LSG. How about he plays a weaker 'seed' (maybe his mother was from a very humble background, pretty much like Bong Gu's, but a beauty with a golden heart) who is struggling to survive and surpass the more legitimate and secured siblings in a fight for the top? I am sure that's something ordinary Koreans will warm up to. (They always root for an underdog.) We know LSG can do ruthless. So a misunderstood, ruthless hero with, in fact, a big heart (even if it's for the right woman to find it)?

Fantasizing to pass the time...

So interesting, thanks for sharing! I had no idea how close to reality some of these kdrama plots are.

Also: your drama concept? I would LOVE to watch that. It could be another satirical dark comedy. There's so much potential for an exploration of family, of success (to what end?), of how far hard work can get you, and when and what to sacrifice in pursuit of your goals. LSG plays young, ruthless and driven better than any other actor his age I can think of. That would be a great career move, too. I really hope he keeps going for these morally complex, meaty roles...because he's knocking it out of the park with this one.

LOL Samsung made a killing because of Samsung Galaxy smart phone sales. I want one of those even though I really don't need a smart phone.
That family have a lot to fight about alright. Ahhhh the travails of the rich people. I don't envy them at all.
I will make sure my descendants will not fight that way at all ..lol.. by not leaving them any inheritance ...hehehehe

they need to watch K2H - maybe they will become kinder to each other. tsk tsk

0

@luvs: "I will make sure my descendants will not fight that way at all ..lol.. by not leaving them any inheritance"

hahaha, that is my current plan too. The poor folk in kdramas are always the happiest/kindest anyway, right? And since kdramas are clearly reality, it's basically like we're doing our future descendants a favor, right?! lol

Thanks for the article AnnMichelle!

Truthfully, about two or three weeks ago, I was discussing TK2H with another hearties, and she point the article. Based on her analyzes, TK2H it self is a sarcasm for chaebol in SK, I'm sure all of you can guess it, in form of Kim Bong Gu.
Now, if it's true, praises for the writer and PD is indeed already out of count!!

I think that is what's so wonderful about k2h. It seems so real that we are sucked into the lives of all the characters. We want to know what they are thinking, feeling, doing every minute of the day even when they are not in front of the camera.

Since she's taking on basically all of the recaps for this drama, i can steadily follow her thoughts and what not episode to episode. I'm just glad she showed interest in this drama and decided to recap it because i know without her we wouldn't even be here right now.

I saw new pics where the crew was filming in Busan on a cliff...I guess there will be more people dying, perhaps people falling off a cliff in a some sort of final showdown. Let's hope those people are either Bon Bon, the British guy with the wig or Bonggu himself! After that we can go back to business and devote some quality time to our lovely O(S)TP! I'm pretty optimistic :))

Me? I want to be the "sweat wiper."

In one of LSG's five-minute broadcast to promote his TONIGHT album, he got all sweaty from the taping (singing live in front of a stage audience of screaming girls). As soon as he walked in the dressing room, his cody (I think), a towel in hand, just pulled his shirt up from the pants, reached in from the shirt bottom and started wiping his body. Front and back. Up and down. I was like, mouth opening, mesmerizing.

I think cody has so many other important things to do (such as lining up new shirts and stuff) I am totally willing to take over the wiping part.

0

I wouldn't mind being his masseuse forever ^-*

0

Ok, AnnMichelle, you just success make my mouth opens too...btw, what episode is it again? *blink blink*open the 5 minutes Tonight showcase folder*

Regarding wiping sweat off LSG,

Now I have to find that clip to watch it again - suddenly got hungry!

I will let you girls know (or someone else please if you find it). It could be one of the BTS. Pretty sure it's from 5-min broadcast.

0

LOL, AnnMichelle!! You are too funny. And, you know, if you need a partner in sweat-wiping crime, I'm here for ya. ;)

Okay girls, just compete for LSG. ^^

Meanwhile I'll take care about Jo Jung Suk. That poor guy seems to stay by himself when LSG is around. *lol*

Gosh, I love a guy who's so concentrating! Just love it.

I only tried live streaming once. I logged on to iMBC a LONG time before air time. Saw a lot of cooking and traveling and talking and commercials. Everything was just swell. And then all of a sudden, it froze. Saw freezing Hang Ah. Saw freezing Jae Ha. It took the best of me not to launch my hole-puncher at my monitor.

Yes, Hawaii is a beautiful place but it costs to live in "paradise"! I do count my blessings daily, though. People dream of coming here and I dream of visiting Korea. Haha! One great thing here is the fact I can make a quick run down to our Korea town and eat Korean food and buy Korean dramas and attempt to speak the little Korean I know. ;)

I just re-read californiagirl's comment and saw her showtime is at 0600 but logs in at around 3 AM. (I was wondering how she had the same showtime as me with a Pacific Ocean between us. Pardon me, so dense...)

Sooooo, I should log in at around midnight? Okeedokee... And I hope I don't experience all the frozen images, 'cause that would be really frustrating. Oh dear, now when I hear "frustrating" I think of Shi Kyung. See TK2H's effects on me?

I have also been known to --out of the blue---say "Dae Han Min Guk" with the clapclap-clap-clap-clap. I definitely have that TK2H virus.

By the way, at this site the RAW version is rather fast uploaded, in case you fail live-streaming, what seems to happen more and more often cause of the immense traffic.
