GAKSITAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL!!
That’s a nice first post.
I hope that yell was Latin-American “Goal” yelling style.
LOL. Those Latin American commentators definitely gets to me.
LOL. I made that same sound when I found out that Kagawa Shinji was being signed by Manchester United! GO YOU REDS!!!
I think if you are going to watch sports and cheer, that’s how you have got to do it. With real enthusiasm. They are always so epic.
haha my thoughts exactly
lol A+
LOL perfect show for a drinking game.
Happy Friday to all in Dramabeans-Land! I am still up to my proverbial eyeballs in trial briefs (and not-so-briefs), so I haven’t had time nor the strength to do anything K-whatever-related this week other than barely get through the first episode of “Big” (and outside of the gossip the gals have been keeping me up on – gomawo chingus). And it just kills me with so much goodness out these, that everything is just going to have to wait. Big Heavy Sigh.
I guess the only weird thing that’s happened in the last few days has been a noticeable uptick in likes and followers on my Tumblr page. Couldn’t figure out what the deal was until I realized that the “Cross Gene” band had made their debut and people were searching for Shin Won Ho pics ‘n’ stuff — I had him hashtagged in quite a few of the BVS recaps. But put me down as one of the few that is not impressed with Idol Baby Daddy Bachelor’s new venture; he looked rather uncomfortable dancing around and his singing parts left a lot to be desired. I hope that turns around for him soon, because the little cutie deserves the spotlight now… and puts more pressure on me to go back to Soompi and fix the broken links in my BVS recaps that happened after their migration to a new software platform. If anyone can recommend a good cloning program, I’d gladly pay top dollar for one.
Welp, the heels and briefcase are waiting at the front door. I hope you all have a nice day/afternoon/evening, and I’ll see you guys when the legal beagles turn me loose. Mata ne! *waves*
Happy OT Cherkell!
Have a good day! Hope your day won’t be so stressful cause of the case!
Let’s see if I can do this by my phone…
I forgot to add: BIG BANG. NYC and LA. SOMETIME IN FALL 2012. WILL MOVE HEAVEN AND EARTH TO BE AT ONE OF THESE SHOWS!! FANTASTIC BABY!! ::dance:: ♥♥♥
Oh yes!!! Big Bang—yey! I really need to know the date. Keeping my fingers cross that I can go. ^^
Thank lord! At least NY is relatively closer to me than say…Korea…or Japan….or Asia.
Got that right! Only 4 hrs away versus no way in hell!
It’s 2 hours nonstop plane ride to NY (for me) vs. 24 hours plane ride to Korea with a stop at LA and layover time. x.x
HALLELUJAH FOR WORLD TOUR BECAUSE THEY ARE COMING TO SINGAPORE AS WELL.
~FANTASTIC BABAYE~
LOL – I know – I’m a six-hour drive from NYC. I’m hoping they might chose a Washington DC venue, too.
I know! I have to see them! NYC here I come!

There is always that one guy in the boy band who is the looker, and it is Shin. He doesn’t dance that great nor does he carry a powerful belching note. Just keeping it real!
He’s pretty to look at though.
“the heels and briefcase are waiting at the front door”
hehe. me like!
Good morning, DB OTers!
It’s a bright and beautiful day here in New England. Lots of work to do
outside – the vegetable garden went in yesterday. Here’s hoping the yield
will be good this year.
Anybody as surprised, shocked, squeeeliciously thrilled at what happened
yesterday at the QIHM fan meeting?! This (just in case you missed it!) – an
excerpt from AllKPop:
“Actor Ji Hyun Woo made a shocking confession, admitting that he sincerely liked co-actress Yoo In Na
On June 7th, a fanmeeting was held for tvN‘s ‘Queen In Hyun’s Man‘ as it aired its last episode. It was here that actor Ji Hyun Woo suddenly confessed, “I wanted to make this confession in front of the fans who enjoyed our drama. I sincerely love Yoo In Na.”
In the drama ‘Queen In Hyun’s Man’, the two stars captured the viewers’ hearts with their perfect chemistry, even stirring dating scandals in the beginning.
Fans became extremely confused, as Ji Hyun Woo seemed to be genuine. After Ji Hyun Woo made his confession, an seemingly embarrassed Yoo In Na stated, “I’m shocked. I think we should have a serious talk about this after this [fanmeeting] is over.”
A representative later explained, “Ji Hyun Woo’s surprising confession was not forewarned. The atmosphere on set immediately became a bit disturbed. The fans of Ji Hyun Woo, Yoo In Na, and the drama itself became extremely confused.”
How’s that?! I’m alternating between “This is SO romantic and we all just KNEW those kisses weren’t fake!”, to “Uh-oh. How uber embarrassing for her if she doesn’t feel the same?!”
Plus the fact that JHW is going into the Army shortly and that’s when people generally break-up. Those 2 years are a relationship-killer.
I’d also love to discuss the ending 2 eps of QIHM (my head is still spinning) but don’t want to spoil it for those who haven’t
watched it yet. Cause I’m considerate like that…….
I think he timed it. I mean, how can he not have. Maybe to save embarassment? Some ppl think its a publicity stunt. I dont want to think of him that way. :’(
I’ve been looking at some BTS stills of QIHM – and he seems to constantly have his hands on her, really touchy-feely, plus the buzz is that they’ve been dating for awhile.
She gave an interview about the kissing scenes and said that the ‘Tiptoe’ kiss was her first real ‘deep’ kiss and she was nervous going in, but that she liked the way the scene turned out. How old is she, anyway? Do these actresses have NO social life into their 30′s?! Sad.
I find it surprising how many actresses say the same thing about real kissing. I remember Jang-woo warning PMY in that silly baseball drama they did that he was going to deep kiss her – and then it lasted for something like 7 hours to get the rotational take correct. I can only hope that LMH educated her while they were dating. Just saying..
That’s really strange, considering she seems like the type of girl who would be popular amongst guys.
Well, she doesn’t have to like just any guy who’s around her. It’s a bitter side of being pretty – you attract also people you would like to keep at a distance. I know, cause my friends happen to be pretty. I enjoy being ugly and choosing people I interact with
This reminds me of something. Years ago when YIN was in High kick, she did not catch my eyes. And then I heard LeeSuJin (ISAN) said his ideal type is YIN so that time I thought ‘why? She doesn’t look any special. And she is short.’ And then I started to see her in various dramas. Good for her~
Maybe it was her first “deep” kiss on screen? I imagine it’s rather weird kissing a stranger for an audience…
@ Cynthia, Good morning!
I don’t think JHW was the only one doing the loving here. I think she at least liked him. I have seen several BTSs as well and they did look like they were dating. They also looked like they were enjoying each other’s company a lot, and in some ways that makes sense now. I remember wondering at the time if those shots were just extra shots they choose not to use for the drama (and that could be the case too). I remember PMY saying in an interview that she dated through her dramas and that ended up making sense to me.
I would like to say that I don’t think YIN would have let JHW be lovey dovey with her if she wasn’t OK with that kind of attention. It does take two to tango or to be lovey dovey, case in point:
http://www.tumblr.com/tagged/queen-in-hyun%27s-man?before=1337755395
I would not be surprised if they were dating already, and he just made it public, hence the shock from the people on the stage. Some rumors have gone as far as saying that people close to them on the set knew what was going on, but not the agencies, I don’t know…
Like Rashell in 3.6, I am perplexed at how big this “confession” thing is in SK, and I don’t understand why this could damage her career. It’s not like she is a bad actress or couldn’t accept new roles or that he would be stalking her and preventing her from focusing on her career. It sounds like he made this terrible sin, when in fact he just made a mistake, like all humans do, no one is perfect. It seems to me that they should learn from it and move on. Although in her case, she couldn’t prevent it.
Just my two cents worth…
I know right? So hard for me to wrap my mind around how this could have such serious consequences. So the guy confessed his feelings for the girl – publicly. It really is kind of sweet. But I guess in Korea, that’s just not done?
Word, Rashell!!
He’s leaving next month!
So fast!
http://dramahaven.com/ji-hyun-woo-enlists-in-active-duty-military-service-on-july-3rd/
I mean, if it is a publicity stunt, he should’ve done it during the press conference, and not AFTER the drama has ended.
I would be so happy if they date for realz…(like an epilogue for HeeJin and BoongDo)…
Oh wait, but then I remembered what happened to Lee Min Ho and Park Min Young =[
The way he was eating her lips for that last kiss, makes total sense now. And people seriously underestimate 2 years of enlistment. In fact when Hyun Bin broke up before he enlisted, I thought he was being really considerate.
LIke oh my gooodness ji hyun woo! I hope he’s sincere and she likes him back. Would be sad if she turns him down. and him going into Military service–sad. But good since it’s right after such a popular drama as QIHM–people will still remember him in service and out of service.
Am I the only one who like to ship this couple? Omo,, I really support them if their relationship is gonna be true. Yoo In Na….please accept JHW’s feeling. If u don’t, just remain to be a good friend then.
Both JHW and YIN are rocks!
I love QIHM. ^^
Yeah * hands up * avoided spoilers for QIHM with such good results but it all went to pieces after I accidentally read about the confession. Then it was all bets are off. I am going back to ep 5 by the way and have only seen the 1st kiss they had. So have no idea what you guys are talking about.
However, I was dead curious enough * bad, bad ck * that I begged my 2 Korean subbers for Bride Mask residing in Korea to search Daum for news reports to see if there was any more updates.
Nadda. Zip. Zilch
@ck10z,
There have been a couple of reports and statements out, don’t know if you’ve seen them? Check redpinkboxes.wordpress.com
Thanks. they have given me what the Korean public said via Daum. Like this morning they were still the top search items. What I wanted to get was confirmation from YIN. But apparently all the female viewers felt that he was too rash. Sigh. Is it only in Korea that it’s rash when a cute guy you’ve been dating confess in public? All because of the implications to her during his service and her career.
I suppose it was ‘rash’ in the context of Korea, where (if I understand rightly) management companies keep a tight rein on their talent. Are the female viewers really thinking it was rash? That’s really sad. Guy makes a grand romantic gesture and gets the wind taken out of his sails. Have to say, though, that I guess it might have been better done privately. With forethought.
Good morning ck10z,
“Is it only in Korea that it’s rash when a cute guy you’ve been dating confess in public? All because of the implications to her during his service and her career.”
Seriously, right? I saw him in some interviews and he seemed a little shy. I felt that it was bold and brave what he did and I find it sad that he was left hanging, as if he did something wrong. It felt like he was being rejected in public, so sad…
I find it interesting that as women we always say we want a good guy, a romantic, considerate one, etc… Here is one, in front of you:
1–he is romantic (he said in the interview after the show finale that he was the one who came up with the idea of the *Tip Toe Kiss* because he had always wanted to kiss his girlfriend that way). He is the kind of guy who would call you up and sing a song and play the guitar for you on the phone, basically K-dramas kind of stuff we swoon over. 2–He is hardworking (musician, model, actor, has his own radio show), 3–He is college educated, 4–He loves his mother and seems to have a great relationship with her (said so in *Happy Together*), 5–He’s polite, seems considerate, kind, gentle and cute and attractive to boot. 6–He’s also humble, has a sense of who he is and knows how he is perceived in the entertainment industry (he discussed that in an interview. Apparently, directors told him that he’s not drop dead gorgeous or handsome, but the kind of guy that people become comfortable around).
I don’t know him, but from the little I have seen, he seems to be serious if he has feelings for someone.
Here is someone many of us would say we want or would like to have someone like him, and YIN is going to let him go? I understand that it is her call (and I respect that) but I also feel sad for him… Well, if things don’t work out, he can pour his energy into his army training (not to say that he shouldn’t, anyway). The press seem to focus only on how it would affect YIN but not about how it would affect him. (He apparently said that he confessed because the PD told him that he wanted JHW to be less introvert. Well he was, and look at what happened…)
By the way, who has MINED him here? (Just curious)…
Another question I have is: can someone explain to me the restrictions/rules YG (and maybe other Korean agencies) have on their actors/singers dating and/or being outspoken/public about it (unless they get married or someone is pregnant?) And why is that? I am not trying to judge, I am just trying to understand. Thank you…
@Ivoire In YG, the only artist that has had dating restriction is 2ne1. And basically what it was that they wouldnt be allowed to date until 5 years after their debut. Dara and Bom two of the members in 1984 asked for their dating restriction to be cut down from 5 to 3 years just for them. Which YG agreed to. But recently he denied it again. So I am guessing they cant date. But the reason why they have this is because for artist to focus on music and just music soley without any outside restrictions.
But in YG, Se7en dated PHB for 10 years before making it public 2 years ago.
And Tablo and Kang Hye Jung dated and made it public before they announced their wedding.
So I am guessing that actresses especially since Yoo In Ah is 30 this year they have a lesser amount of restrictions. And I feel if YIA truly wanted to date JHW YG would not be against it.
Hi, Ivore@ -
I’m sure lots of women would love this PDA – but in the context of a uptight, restrictive Korean society, it comes across as a social no-no, particularly in the closed world of celebrities/idols. Management companies don’t want anything to impede upon revenues, thus the (unfair) ban on romantic relationship – something that celebs and idols all talk about having to do in secret, as management knows that fans will most likely turn away from their favorite bias once the romantic fantasy is broken.
Whether it’s an accurate assessment or not, many fans come across as plain nuts (think ssasang) – their purchasing power is phenomenal and the entertainment companies know that. I always get the feeling that the majority of celeb/idols are brainwashed from an early age to toe the company line – it’s the “I made you and I can break you” mentality. It’s only the higher profile/way successful entertainers who are brave enough to face off with management.
As far as YIN is concerned, I don’t know how I’d feel for a guy to declare his undying love to (in public) and then in essence say “But I’ll be disappearing for two years in a few weeks from now. Wanna wait for me?” Not realistic – I think he was wrapped up in the drama and her and the immediacy of his situation.
@ Lavony and @ Cynthia,
Thank you so much for your explanations, I appreciate them and they were helpful in making me understand better what happened and the context in which it happened.
I would also like to say that I am genuinely somewhat confused now. Cynthia, you wrote :” I’m sure lots of women would love this PDA – but in the context of a uptight, restrictive Korean society, it comes across as a social no-no, particularly in the closed world of celebrities/idols”. I used to watch *sketchbook with Hyeol* on Mondays nights on KBS World. Hyeol is a musician (I don’t know if he is a singer as well) who has a talk show and a huge audience. This might be a little different but I have seen him invite (Korean) men (at least a couple of times when I was watching the show) on the stage who ended declaring their undying love to their girlfriend and proposing right then and there, to which the girl said “yes” of course. I have also seen the host let (Korean) men (from the audience) just declare their love for their women in February for Valentine’s day.
I am mentioning this because, that gave me the impression that declaring your love in public does happen in SK and that it can be OK, since I had seen it on TV and that show has a really big audience. One could of course argue that:
1–This was done with the knowledge of the host and with his consent. 2–The two people concerned WERE already in a relationship, so this was just the next step.
And sometimes, the host (Hyeol) would ask the guest singer to sing a love song for a couple in the audience if they requested it (or he would ask the audience right then and there, if a couple wanted to be serenaded). I am saying all of this to say that although I get that PDA might be frown upon in SK, some level of it must happen, since I did see some on TV (and on a major network).
So I get that one could say that, that context is very different from what happened with JHW, especially as you put it, since he belongs to the world of celebs/idols. I think I was thinking of what I had seen on Sketchbook (to a certain extent) and so I was a little confused.
That being said, with both of your explanations, I can see why the context here is different.
As far as YIN and how she might feel about the whole confession and everything associated to it, I can also see how she might be hesitant about whether or not to start/pursue a relationship with him. I can see how JHW was still wrapped up in the mood/atmosphere about the drama and his feelings for YIN when he confessed.
I don’t think that what he saw and experienced with YIN was all in his head, however. I know I am a romantic woman, but I am also very realistic and practical. I know how to separate fiction from real life and I wasn’t born yesterday. I never ship the couples I see onscreen and never wish for them to date in real life. If it happens, it happens but that is not what I am looking for. I know that dating and even being married in real life can hard, especially for people in the limelight.
With this particular couple however, I found myself saying, “hum… they might want to consider dating in real life…” and that was after watching many BTSs videos, pictures etc… I am convinced that they liked (maybe still do, the drama ended recently) each other and I explained earlier why I could see them falling for each other. There must have been ways that YIN must have been around him and with him that made him think that it must have been OK to do that. It was an error in judgment, I will concede to that, but I don’t believe it was all in his head.
I can’t help but feel bad for him to a certain extent and I wonder how he processed it. The after party event was basically canceled because of him. How does he feel about that? I don’t know if he had any chances with YIN to begin with, but I wonder if he messed his chances with this. And it was so public, even we are talking about it… That’s the thing with being a public figure, when you do something (good or bad) the repercussions can be big or huge.
I think I liked him because he didn’t have any air about him, he laughed easily and he just was… He worked diligently on his music and acting and some of his comments reminded me that you have to have a thick skin to be in the entertainment business, period. Some of the things that are said to your face, it’s just like “wow…” (even if they might be somewhat true). I liked that he seemed very down to earth, and genuinely so, not the fake “I am humble” kind of thing.
I do feel bad for him maybe because he just seemed to be a very sweet and well meaning guy. I hope he learns from his *mistake* and that he will move on. One day, this will be a distant memory, a blip in his life. In the meantime, it’s a hot topic, of course. I am sure it will die soon.
I also wanted to add that I can understand the YG stance about their idols not being distracted by things like dating, I was the same way when I was in school. All I wanted to do was study (and I had a lot of it to do) and didn’t want to be distracted. I personally didn’t feel that I could handle studying and working and a relationship, if I had one. I knew myself well enough to know how deep I could fall and how long it would take me to recover from a breakup if I went through one at the time. There was no one really interesting around anyway.
It is still sad and unfortunate that the idols/actors seem to be treated more like “cash cows” (in a way) than like people deserving to have a life. I guess paying one’s dues in SK in the entertainment industry must take a looooooooong time, if only a few can actually be open about their romances. Maybe that explains why some of those actors end up creating their own management agencies (lee Byung Hun being one of them, I think…).
These celebs are really not to be envied. They pay such a price for fame and success.
On a very, very shallow and selfish note, I am glad he (JHW) confessed in part because it confirmed what I had been thinking and seeing all along.
Living in America, it’s so strange to me what a big deal this “confession” is. It really does make me that much more interested in the cultural differences. Here that kind of news would be big news, but it wouldn’t be “scandalous”. I think it was really brave of him to just toss it out there. I’m sure he understood the consequences. I just hope that this doesn’t hurt her because he going to leave for 2 years, and she’s staying here trying to keep her career going.
True, that.
Remember Tom Cruise’s couch-jumping on Oprah’s show declaring his love for Katie?
It was sweet and thrilling while watching it happen – not so sweet when the media turned on him and wielded it like a weapon of ridicule against him.
yeah, but that was kind of over the top for a 30+ year old man. Here this young guy just said out loud that he really liked his co-star. It’s hard for me to wrap my mind around how “serious” it is.
But looking at behind the scenes pictures, it sure does seem like he wasn’t alone in his feelings.
Tom Cruise being ‘over the top’? That’s like saying Soo Ji-sub has just a LITTLE ego problem…
It doesn’t come across as a big deal for us here in the States, but in S. Korea, this was a BIG deal – to make an unexpected announcement in the venue where they were was like a bombshell going off. All the post-fanmeeting parties/dinners were cancelled outright with the actors being sent home.
Heh…I was trying to be “kind” to Tom Cruise. LOL.
Yeah, I’m getting the point that this was something that just isn’t done in that world. So I don’t know if that makes it sweeter or meaner. But I feel like that had to be the bravest thing to just say it out like that. But maybe not the smartest. And hopefully she was understanding. I just feel like he chucked his little heart out there and it was just left hanging.
It really is like a drama.
@ Rashell,
I am so with you on what you said about the whole confession thing. I have said what you have said myself, but I concur with you. I think part of me can’t help but feel sorry for him because it did feel like he psyched himself up, put his heart out there and was left hanging (that’s how I felt when I watched the video). I was like “wow…” and for the after party to be canceled, that probably means that if the fans could approach the actors (signing items for examples), that was canceled too. I can’t help but wonder, was he blamed for it?
I haven’t watched all of QIHM yet, I caught it in the middle because people were raving about it. However, I do agree with you, this is such a drama… And it happened in front of his family, “awwww…” Poor guy. I wonder if that might be his first and last time doing something like that.
I won’t spoil the drama but I would just say that QIHM was kinda perfect. I had no qualms whatsoever about the way they ended it.
Anw, regarding the confession, I’m pretty sure they both do have feelings for each other at least when they were in the midst of filming. When I was watching the drama, I was totally like, ‘They HAVE to be dating irl.’. You could actually see the spark in their eyes when they look at each other and I’m pretty sure it’s not just chemistry. Anyhow, there have been like crazy load of comments and speculation over this matter. I think by actually doing the brave thing by being honest to the general public even before actually dating, JHW might have killed his chances with her considering the nature of the whole industry. Moreover, YIN is a considerably new actress in the industry with this being her very first lead role, so idk. I would absolutely love for them to get together since they are just like adorable together but I really doubt it’s going to happen. Hopefully the media just leaves them alone considering they haven’t even STARTED a real relationship yet.
@ lovegoody, Hi!
I am so glad that you felt that they had feelings because I felt the same way. I asked myself, “is this just chemistry?” and the BTS pictures and videos just seemed to complement what we were seeing on the show. They kept acting like they actually liked each other (each other’s company) and they looked really happy, one could see it on their faces. It was written all over them. I have seen many BTS OTPs, and I have seen the ones that look awkward (and act that way) with each other, the ones that get away from each other as soon as the director says “cut,” etc… and one can tell usually how they really feel about each other(the actors/actresses) if you see enough of the BTS.
With this pairing, the feelings were definitely there (at least during the shooting, as you said). I also agree that he might have shot himself in the foot. Oh well…
Am at a conference so no time right now!
Especially because I’m trying to tweet the conference (fortunately I don’t have to speak!)
HI!!!!!!!!!!! I’m going to mail you about my trip. I’m making plans for it right now with my hosts.
Don’t forget to let me know either! And if you want to see something special when you’re here, feel free to ask.
Where are you?
Not in the US! In France…
Raine may come here for her vacations in July.
I forgot! I did have you mentally placed in the US…
Yep, mail me!
{okay… I’m retreating to my conference now and will stop by the OT later!}
Going to R&R today with a little The Good, The Bad, and The Weird and then go to a k-drama meet=up with some of my peeps!!!
Have a fabulous weekend while I lay in supplies of soju and fire up the grill for some serious k-watching in real life, real time, with real girlfriends from all over the U.S.
Awesome! I’m moving and I need to find people in my new town who like K-drama.
Well, if you are close to Texas ….
Colorado?
I’ll be there in July ….
Why do I think that your kdrama meet up is with Lee Byung-hun and Jung Woo Sung?
Hmmm…..that would be a good time, wouldn’t it?
Have fun!
I’m leaving to have my fun very soon!!! Thanks, Jomo!
hi,
just would like to share this:
http://charleskinbote.tumblr.com/
nice drawings, I think
This is amazing! Adding to favourites:)
Hello all!
I’m back…sort of!
My surgery has made typing hard and you know how addictive open thread is!
I had surgery two weeks ago on my hands for carpal tunnel and on my right elbow. I just started driving two days ago.
As for drama, I’m LOVING Big. Like love. And QIHM but I haven’t finished that. I got two episodes left. But JHW has made enough drama in place of the drama, hasn’t he?
I didn’t get to hear what everyone thought about RTP and K2H. I’m going to have to go to the old threads to see!
How is everyone? I’ve missed you. I’ve kept a bit current on twitter (typing on twitter is way easier with the 140 word limit)
It’s also taking me a while to write my recaps on Big just cause I have to stop every 10 minutes to rest my hands.
Love to OT!
Hi Raine! I hope you get better soon! My doctor friend has told me to get my cubital tunnel fixed…I AM SCARED OF SURGERIES!
I’m also loving Big…kinda helps me get over my post QIHM syndrome…it’s so hard to move on. hahaha!
Raine dahling!! AJA AJA AJA FIGHTING!! Please take it easy and take your time — I remember how long it took me to recover from my own hand surgery, and that was over 20 years ago! Hang in there!
Awesome that you are back, rest well and don’t type too much, (or type one-handed?) prayers for full healing!!!
I think I will fall in love with BIG after finishing QIHM. I can’t continue to watch another saeguk-travelling drama after watching QIHM which shows great story and deep memory to me.
But I Love Itaeri and I Do, I Do seem quite promising to me. Omo,, so many dramas are waiting now. ^^
One knows a drama (here, TK2H) has left an indelible impression when fans still linger on the final episode recap thread TWO weeks post-wrap up. If you will be revisiting that thread good luck reading 2000+ comments!! =)
yup.. when seeing how many comments in the final TK2H.. I just like… wat??? 2000++ =)
is there any other thread has that many comments? *just curious*
HELLO RAINE!
Glad you are able to be here.
Did you try any of that voice activated software?
Welcome back!!!!! Glad to know the surgery went well. Please rest and take it easy on your hands and elbow. We would like for you to be completely healed. And yes, JHW has given us some drama to talk about. If he wasn’t somewhat famous already, he should be more famous (or popular or more known) now
Passe une bonne fin de semaine, je l’espere…
Glad to see you around here again Raine! Take it easy and don’t work your fingers too hard!
Hello Dears!
I’m in March of 2012. I really want to start Big and I do, I do but I can’t March in Kdrama land is populous and so are the yesteryear dramas. I hope you all have a good weekend.
Hello Ahjummabunny, hope you are well!
Can we just all have a moment of silence for Queen In Hyun’s Man, Ji Hyun Woo professing his love for Yoo Inna and then after making us swoon he announces he’s enlisting within the year.
So many feels. Someone hug me.
*hug*
cyber hugs are just as good as real hugs during these times…
Hug!
The last week has made me feeling like s bipolar person
Here, a big hug! I shouldn’t be so emotional but i just love the man so much. Life is unfair today.
Indeed. Let me be emotional with you!
(hugs) I think everyone feels sad that he’s going to enlist this year.
Big Texas SQUEEZIN’ HUGS!!!!
Okay, now you can breathe again.
Heart-stopping moment: he’s not just enlisting ‘within the year’ but 3rd July. That’s . . . . less than a month away.
If he is enlisting on July 3rd (or by then), what he did (confessing publicly his feelings) was really brave, even though it did put YIN on the spot. I was saddened that the after party was canceled, however. They had everything ready. And the cake, nobody ate the cake, such a pity…
What he did actually only happens in Korean drama. But I like it. He’s so gentleman to be brave to say his feelings out loud.
Woaa,,,, YIN swooooooons…………
They cancelled the party? Then I’m gonna say this was not publicity, not fake at all. I knew I was watching love. I knew it.
Yep, you don’t see that kind of chemistry between two people and call it just acting if there isn’t some kind of real feelings between them. ^^
@Ivoire,
I felt sad about them cancelling the celebrations too – probably made JHW feel he had committed a big time sin – and yes, the cake, the cake!
Having read a couple of reports and comments, though, I guess both sides’ management teams were just trying to ensure no more ‘damage’ was done. I do think it would have been wiser to not make such a confession in public, but I can see why he’d be so elated he’d just do it (especially with the thought of his looming enlistment).
From reading the various articles I gathered that it seems he made the confession with no real purpose than to just be honest.
Irregardless of whether it was rash or not I gotta hand it to JHW. The boy’s got cojones.
Ooooo…. cake. Yummmm
@ all the comments following mine: I agree with what you said, for the most part.
.
@ SHL, I don’t see what other *damage* there was to be done, to be honest. He did the big one, if we can call it that. I think the management companies simply panicked and sent everyone home, but I don’t think they thought rationally themselves. Maybe they didn’t want any more questions about his confession and knew it would be hard to avoid.
Could we have gotten the cake? I am curious what kind of cake it was… And yes, that it is the stuff you see in Kdramas. The Kdrama “Thorn Birds” (on KBS) did something like that in its last episode
Sorry. Your moment of silence was disturbed by my insane sobbing. But at least some of those tears are tears of joy for the adorable JHW-YIN pairing (they must have a couple name already- Hyun Na? In Woo?).
PS- as I’m a new JHW fangirl, are there any other really great dramas starring our beloved Boong Do? I already watched (and loved!) him in My Sweet Seoul, and it seems like ATK is to be avoided like the plague. Thoughts?
so you like Mr.Ji, fortunately two of his old drama currently re-run on KBSWorld:
miniseries Becoming a Billionaire & weekend drama My Precious You where costars Song Joong-ki, they played brothers, so cute!
I watched Mr. Idol, a movie. Really enjoyed it – I think I saw it on Youtube. He’s in Birth of the Rich, which is on DramaFever now…but I have no idea if it’s any good. And then of course he was in A Thousand Kisses, but everyone says that sucked. HE didn’t, but IT did.
@JoAnne, did you really enjoy Mr Idol? I kept waiting for a shirtless scene (like in the posters) and it never emerged!
Plus, I thought he was sadly miscast in the movie – he didn’t really have much ‘acting’ to do cos his character wasn’t really developed (no character was), and he was so obviously taller and older than his band-mates it seemed odd. Not his fault at all, mind you. I was also upset he didn’t actually sing for the OST – or did I get that wrong? What’s the point of casting a singer if he doesn’t get to sing!
Oops sorry, got carried away.
I did enjoy it. It was a weird little movie. That wasn’t him singing? I absolutely felt ripped off by the false advertising of the poster, but I still liked it.
but thinking of that poster…omo, the shower scene when he does his first post-Army drama? Although really, my love for him is not based on physicality…it’s really love for Bong Do.
We know what JHW is capable of, I blame the director for his performance in Mr. Idol.
Oh and yes, in Mr. Idol, JHW had chemistry with Park Ye Jin, whose specialty as an actress is playing the Ice Princess.
Boy came through and melted her, too!
Yes, to MOST of Birth of the Rich. It had the dreaded extension, so there’s that problem. You also get stick woman Lee Bo Young, who actually flexes a bit under JHW’s magic lips…
But he is great, and sings, and is NOT at all a happy, easy going character, as he was in Taming of the Heir.
I enjoyed the Invincible Lee Pyung Kang/Taming of the Heir immensely, and had NEVER heard of it before.
The plot and conflicts are completely manufactured, so if you don’t worry about consistencies too much it’s fun.
I like is first lead Nam Sang Mi a lot, though.
No, he kinda sucked there….. unless you happen to like a dead-fish expression for ep after ep. Ooooo…. kinda like SJS?
Sorry – this was in response to JoAnne’s comment #9.6.2
@TiaC
I am a new JHW fan too, and the kind pp gave me a couple of recommendations
There are a couple of episodes of Old Miss Diaries on YouTube with eng subs, that was his first breakthrough role and he’s really sweet in that. I am watching the 1st couple of episodes of ATK, which pp have recommended (they say, avoid from ep20 onwards?) and those are fine too. Another older series is Over The Rainbow, which I intend to try to watch! Um there’s also another show with ‘Invincible’ in the title, but I can’t remember what it is right now, sorry!
Invincible Youth 2?
I’ve seen clips on Youtube, and there’s this song he signs – I Ya…soooooooo good.
I melted when he sang Maroon 5′s “Sunday Morning.” His version of SISTAR19′s “Ma Boy” was cute too~
Invincible Lee Pyung Kang/Taming of the Heir
@TiaC, watch the first 25-28 episodes of ATK then STOP!!!!
No, no, no!!
Once she enters the force-field of that Black Hole of ATK she’ll never have the will to pull back!
We know. It happened to us.
DON’T watch ATK, or, The-Drama-That-Must-Not-Be-Named. It started out cute, but JHW’s character was so stupid, and so weak, and so morose – an anti-Boong-Do, if you will – that you just wanted to strangle him, toss him on the ground and stomp all over his snivelling, mama’s boy hide. At least, I did. (I mean, he kissed the mean girl! Because his mama didn’t like the good girl, the one he loved, he ditched her and took up with his two-timing ex who made good girl’s life a lving h*ll and was mean to her right in front of him and he did nothing because he was just a mopey whiney weakling. He only was stopped from marrying because mean girl herself backed out of it. Eurgh! Most.Hated.Drama.Ever.)
And I guess he didn’t like his character much, either. In his confession at the fanmeet, he said that he was really depressed after ATK (or, “his last job,” since even he didn’t call it by name!) but the PD of QIHM promised him a “cheerful girl” – or to cheer him up, not sure which – and so he took the job.
So I guess we can thank the horror that was The Drama That Must Not Be Named for all that has followed…
HUG in an elevator
Hug in the stacks
Hug in an Audi with some pats on the backs
Smile from the crowd
Hug near the booth
Hug near the sunflowers
then one on the roof
The biggest hug I’ll send you is one on the screen
Tears dripping madly, the last to be seen…
Boy, I’ve sure missed your poems and writings! Glad to “see them” and you Jomo *HUGS*
Hello!
I read your catch-up up there. Glad to see you’re back.
HUGS
I have been doing a lot of headers for Joonni and Koala for my created outlet, but I think there are a bunch of BD poems in me yet.
Jomo, really hugs…
Add the kissing parts
Well, am up there didn’t ask for kisses….not sure if she wants any from me…………… :0)
lol need other glasses, add BD to hug her
and yes, add kisses, on the coffee

Can you please tell what this is?
Hi everyone! This is only my second post in the OT, so… yay?
I haven’t been really invested in a drama since, probably, City Hunter, and suddenly all of these awesome dramas come out – just when I started my PhD! I had really low expectations for ‘I do, I do’, but it’s managed to exceed them. I love it when trendy dramas have mature main heroines – you know, no immaturity/baby-speak etc. I also love the fact that the beta-male is not all that beta, after all. Even the ‘evil’ heiress is insecure and lonely (I think).
I loved the first two episodes of ‘Big’, too, and I don’t even care about character inconsistency because, well duh, Gong Yoo!
Speaking of Gong Yoo, summer always makes me want to re-watch Coffee Prince. Must…resist…the urge…Gong Yoo playing with toys…ugh, resistance is futile!((
Are there any dramas you guys like to watch again and again?
City Hunter <3 = Queen In Hyun's Man <33
Please and Thankyou.
AGREED.
Coffee Prince, You’re Beautiful are ones I keep drooling over. But YB would be a no-no if you prefer mature heroines.
And Delightful Girl Choon-Hyang is one I love watching, as it has a special place in my heart-my first k-drama!
OOPS! I can’t believe I missed SHITTY Hunter!! Bad me!
I died when JB and GF wrote something along these lines in the discussion of one of those first (very confusing) CH previews, ‘Looks nice, but is it shitty?’ – they really had me in stitches there!
You’re Beautiful is my all time favorite Hong Sisters drama…heck, it is my all time fvorite K-Drama! =]
I don’t mind MN’s immaturity in You’re Beautiful – for some reason – possibly because this drama has quite a few other factors that fully make up for it…;)))
I just have a thing for crossing dramas, and You’re Beautiful is my favorite. Yes, I do like it more than Coffee Prince, gasp! I am sure others would disagree.
Resist the urge to to re-watch Coffee Prince? But why would you do such a thing?
(I was so obsessed with watching and rewatching it for a while there that I’ve not only sworn it off, I’ve vowed no Coffee Prince until my Thanksgiving break, when I will allow myself to watch the whole thing, start to finish as a treat for making it through the fall. God. What a loser. Teehee…)
Same here, I tend to just re-watch the whole series in one go, but I haven’t done this in ages. Maybe it really is a good time to finally give in…:)
I marathon-ed CP just the other day!
It was all bittersweet because of Lee Eon and I found myself sniffling quite a bit when he was on but the show was still as good as I remembered it being the first time around.
I can watch Prosecutor Princess over and over and over sigh. PSH makes it all better.
I really like I do I do too. I also like that the Beta male is not really Beta, its more that he is really immature. And they are adorable together. Can’t wait to see what happens with that one!
I am still on the fence about Big. I feel like all the jokes were so obvious and I am still a little squicked out if the OTP is really the kid and the teacher. Actually hoping she ends up with the coach! lol
I have three prized box sets that I revisit when I am feeling low:
– City Hall (Director’s Cut!)
– Coffee Prince
– Soulmate
I would like to add QIHM to that collection, TvN willing…
Hello everyone and Happy OT on this Friday!!! There is a beautiful sun this morning in my neck of the wood. I hope you will have a gorgeous weather (and enjoy it) where ever you are in the world this weekend!
@Ivoire. Hi there. Not sure about the gorgeous weather. It is going to be hot in Chicago (going from mid 80s today to 90s over the weekend). I am one of those people (born and bred in the hot Caribbean temperatures) who cannot stand the heat… LOL.
Hi Hillary, I hear you about the heat thing. I lived in Cameroon for 16 years (humidity in my hometown), but I have a hard time with the heat now, probably because I have lived in cold places for the last 24 years. I can’t take the heart as well I used to anymore.
I still hope you will have a great weekend!
Iv!!
Just waking up and the afternoon sun is wayy bright!
[yawn]
Hellooooooo Shukie, How is your dad? Did he have the operation yet? I hope all is going well on your end. Will be back later…
Yep – thanks for asking! Surgery is fine, but he’s too stubborn to take his pain meds, so he’s only doing otc’s.
Mom and I left him alone so we could go to OpSail, where about tall-masted sailboats came in this weekend. Hee managed okay, but I’ll still be mowing the lawn for the next several weeks, until he gets cleared by his doctor.
Good morning Shukie, (it is 9:24 am here)
I am glad to hear that your dad surgery went well and I hope that the otc’s is as good as his prescribed pain meds. I guess as long as he is taking something, right?
It is so nice that you had a daugher-mother time with your mom, sounds like you both had a great time. Was the weather nice on your end this weekend? It has been that way so far, here. It also sounds like you will be quite physically active (with the mowing of the lawn) for a while. Well, physical activity is always good, and who knows, you might get a nice tan out of it, right?
I was very busy yesterday and I tried to get on the OT early (early) this morning (around 3am, after a short nap. I like doing my writing at night. It is so peaceful and quiet then… I LOVE it), but I was too lazy to actually do it. I will try and catch up with the rest of the comments (to read) and my responses.
I hope you are enjoying your day
!
Hey everyone. Another week in Kdramaland with the premiere of Big, I am now watching 10/11/12 dramas. I am watching all the newly premiered dramas. 6Kdramas, 3 Japanese, 1 Taiwanese and 2 Dramas I want to finish. I just take a little at a time. You have to make a spreadsheet to do this. LOL
So first up, Big it was great a toned down drama for the usually silly comedy styles of the Hong sisters which I enjoy. Who would have knew that Shin Won Ho who was the least on screen in Bachelor
Vegetable Shop has so much charisma as the teen here. Its to bad he cant be used more because he plays the part so well. And Gong Yoo’s expressions are priceless especially when he says one word in English like “whatever”.
Speaking of facial expressions in I Do, I Do, Lee Jang Woo has a bunch of them. I watched Eun Jung and him in We Got Married and I just find this so funny because if you watch the show you know he’s so much more toned down to his character here but he’s always sincere and cute on WGM. So seeing him being hyper and jumping all around makes me wonder what Eun Jung would say to him. Man I miss this couple. Is it still on hold or did they really cancel WGM. No don’t answer. I don’t want to know. I must hold out for hope.
What I love about the show though is the father son relationship. I noticed that all the others leads may be successful but they all trying get their fathers attention. But Lee Jung Woo’s character has his fathers full support and it pushes him forward.
On to Ghost this show creeps me out. I hear the writers are a husband and wife, correct me if I’m wrong, I think whats scary about their writing is that the put their main characters in danger and a lot writers don’t do that. Have not watched bridal mask this week yet so its a must.
As for the most bestist romanticis yes romanticis Kdrama I have ever seen Queen In Hyun’s Man. I’m diligently waiting for subs. it’s the type of show that I have to eat with a great dinner. Then ponder on all the great moments afterward and applaud loudly at the computer screen. This show went by so fast I will definitely watch it again.
Anyway last week I mentioned having to learn how to drive and how I am going to overcome my fear about driving. So one thing I started doing was just getting use to being in the front seat. I just have never seen myself driving but I’m pushing through. So thanks to everyone who gave advice and tips last OT it really did help.
Well, here’s some happy news for you (and us!!)
WGM is filming again with the possibility that a new ep will air tomorrow!
You can check the Soompi fan/drama thread for more info.
Yahoo I was always checking the thread but no news had been posted for about 2 months. So going to check right now.
Yay! I’ve never been on the OT before, but QIHM drove me here, and now I have this wonderful piece of news! Thanks!
Hi licia!
Shin Won Ho is a heartthrob.
I started watching I do, I do for LJW but for a reason i enjoy the Doc more for now.
Ghost is a roller-coaster (just seen the first 2 eps). Interesting what you say about the writers. I’m going to search infos on them.
QIHM will be missed. I will watch the 2 last eps for this week-end. Spoilers can come my way, I don’t care.
It’s nice to see you work on your driving fear. Take it slowly but surely.
Yeah Ghost writer Kim Eun-hee and his husband writer director Jang Hang-joon. I accidentally watch him as a secret guest in Win Win, he’s a great storyteller, funny & talkative, you’ll never guess that he could write those mystery thriller story. Ha
Speaking of Ghost, I miss Daniel Choi, why in the world he only got a cameo. Sigh
And Big, how I adore Shin Won-ho! It’s only episode 2 but I want him more!! Please..
Btw, has anybody know where Big will be premiere on KBSWorld?
Hi Momogi, when I was watching KBSworld, the shows would be shown three weeks after they aired in South Korea (I assumed it was so they would have time to sub them in English). I watched up to last year, because we had Comcast where I lived at the time. If that hasn’t changed, then Big might start in about two weeks on KBSworld. (I live in the Bay Area, so I look up the KBS world schedule for the Bay Area).
You can find their schedule here:
http://www.kbs-america.com/docs/N._America_Affiliated_Feed_0604-0610%28English%29.pdf
To get there, I went here:
http://www.kbs-america.com/schedule/schedule_channel.aspx
and then I clicked on the bottom right with the Comcast logo and I clicked on the English icon. I hope this makes sense and that this helps. The schedule is usually accurate (there were a couple of times when it wasn’t properly updated).
I live in the Bay Area to Ivoire I think a couple other people here do as well right.
Hello Licia, you are from Africa right? (Was it Liberia?). I am from Cameroon, and I am currently living in San Mateo. Where do you live? Yeah, Cherkell lives in the Bay area as well and some other people too.
My mom and father are from there. I was born in America. I live in a little place called Antioch about 45 minutes from San Fransisco
@ Licia, I see… Thanks for the clarification.
oh yeah, the website! how I forget those link, thanks ivoire.
@ Momogi, you are very welcome!!!
Hey, folks! I wanted to pop in and say hi. I learned my lesson last time and I will resist dramabeans until my internet is reinstated and I can dl Big. Because some things are just worth waiting for.
But I wish everyone else sexy k-boys and girls in the meantime.
Hello, everyone!
I lurk around this website, and de-lurk to make comments once in a while, and I’d just like to wish all of you a blessed weekend!
It’s been a emotionally draining, what with Queen In-hyun’s Man ending and all (and the confession! the confession!), and even as I type this I am amazed at the kdrama addict I’ve become. Is there no cure? No return? I think my husband suspects I will ‘infect’ our kids; the youngest (3 yrs) has been heard muttering ‘Shut Up Flower Boy Band’ as she wanders around the house. Ah well.
Blessed weekend, all!
Sorry, I meant, an ‘emotionally draining week’. ha.
Same here! I am also unable to comprehend my kdrama addiction! Seems like I’m carrying kdrama virus or something, I keep waiting to infect anybody who would listen with news from kdrama land!
Sounds like you’re ripe for Mr. Hand Towel to come by for some impromptu brain surgery.
That guy will cure what ails you– all he needs are some clean rags, a mason jar, and a crab mallet.
Food caught in your throat?
HE’LL CUT YOU OPEN
Explosive diarrhea and projectile vomiting?
HE’LL MOST LIKELY CUT YOU OPEN
Addicted to K-Dramas?
HE’S PROBABLY GOING TO HAVE TO CUT YOU OPEN, STAT.
YOU CAN TOTALLY TRUST HIM, HE’S A BRAIN DOCTOR.
YOU? I lurker? Well, welcome!
Your children WILL be infected – there is no way around it.
When your children can correctly identify which sageuk characters are royalty, yangbangs, policemen, beggers, giseangs, you will see….
It is a wonderful disease to share.
Hi Jomo,
Not a lurker? Yay, did I get promoted?
I have been trying . . . so far, I’ve managed to make inroads on the youngest. No. 2, the elder girl, is on her own road to kdrama destruction as she absolutely laps up the stuff shown on local channels – the last was Iron Daughters-in-law, and now she’s into Jumong. No. 1, the boy, remains sadly impervious to all the kdrama madness in the house. As does my husband, who looks over at me typing comments on OT and shakes his head
How old are boy #1 and girl #2?
Boy #1 is 10 going on 11, girl #2 is 7 going on 8.
Night fellow oters, Beaners, everyone!
I’m still at work, but i want to say hello to you guys and share the bless.
so many new dramas but so little time plus this week is very busy. i envy everyone of you who watch last episodes of QIHM, seem like everything is ROAR, MOAR.
really need to catch up to QIHM last 4 episodes. but wtih the recaps out, it help a lot to postpone a while.
gotta go, see you when i see you…
Hi everyone,
I started my summer vacation this week, and so I have nothing to do for the most part. Lately I’ve been only watching QIM (Not going to spoil the finale for JB). What did you guys think of that Ji hyun woo/ Yoo In-na confession, I’ve seen some articles on Naver, I think it’s such a grand gesture but he could’ve also done it in private, I feel like their companies are most likely to come up with an excuse, don’t you think?
I watched the first episode of I do Ido, my first impression wasn’t that great but seeing the feedback from other viewers I feel like may be I should give it a chance.
I’m also planning to check Big, I really miss Gong Yoo, haven’t seen him since Finding Kim Jong Wook.
That’s about it, do you guys have any recommendations of things to watch or read this summer?
Hi NSA!
Regarding the Great Confession, YIN’s management basically said something like ‘the confession is a private affair, we have no comment’; while JHW’s management initially said something like ‘he was immersed in his role, we will wait till his head clears and talk to him before issuing a statement’, and then, finally, they came out with news of his 3rd July enlistment and said ‘young people confess all the time, we will make no comment’. Beats me what will happen next. It was a nice gesture, but perhaps more wisely done in private.
As for things to read, what’s your liking? Are you looking for something light and humorous, romantic, historical, philosophical, swashbuckling?
Happy Friday, DB OT peeps! Hope all is well with you. Been watching a lot of the newer dramas as of late. Haven’t decided which ones I really like yet, except for A Gentleman’s Dignity, which I am totally into now. I hope the character Do Jin doesn’t stay an asshole throughout the show. I doubt it, but right now it’s not looking good for him. I know, I know, there’s 15 more episodes to go…
Other than that, I can’t believe it’s June already. Where did the time go??
I’m pretty sure that Dr. Jin tanked for me right after they showed the scene of the peasant with cholera – and how did we know he had cholera?
Well, the shooting diarrhea close-up was a major giveaway.
What in the heck is WRONG with this Kdrama?! I want to kidnap my Jaejoong and drag him outta there. Park Min-young can stay there – it’s her punishment for not doing ‘Faith’ with Min-ho!
lol at PMY’s punishment.
Hi OT-ers!
Happy Friday!!
Been waiting for Big. The premiere hardly made me interested except for the final 5 or 10 minutes. But, lo! The second ep has me hooked!
I was wondering if anyone could help me find where to watch full episodes of QIHM? Eng subtitles? I usually watch Drama Fever but they dont have it.
i dont get anything done at work anymore
Im also looking for variety shows.thanks i appreciate it and you all make me love this site
http://www.kimchidramas.net/2012/05/queen-in-hyuns-man.html
Its in parts but loads super fast, no ads
try asiator.net if you can download torrents to watch dramas
i was watching QIHM on dramacrazy
http://www.dramastyle.com
hey Valz!
dramacrazy.net has English subs for QIHM. Yesterday when I checked, they had up to episode 15 subbed:)
Hi, dramacrazy have too many ads and popup for me. I like Aveoh.net better. Like you, I like to watch at Dramafever. Crossing my fingers that they will have QIHM soon
Happy Friday, everyone.
I can’t find epis of I Do, I Do… and they’re blocked to my country on Viki. >_<
Still watching Princess And I, of course. Now confused over the OTP. I keep thinking Khalil Ramos (Kiko) looks a bit like a younger Lee Jang Woo.
if you google something called hotspot shield and download it, turn it on and it blocks all your info so you can watch videos on sites that only allow us etc. been doing that for ages, it rules
Thanks for the tip! I tried a lot of softs and gave up cause i couldn’t find one which would work correctly. My comp likes this one!
I also heard that Ultrasurf hides your IP as well, but I haven’t tried it. I think it’s worth checking out, too.
I tested both Hotspot Shield and Ultrasurf and they both work (as I am in process of relocating out of US for a year, maybe even two). Please note that both programs may show up as malware (trojan or virus) when you run some virus scan programs on them. It is because the programs block your identifying info. But as they were also recommended to me by a kdrama addict within my employer’s IT department … I am confident that they are safe … and I know for a fact that they work.
Thanks for the info! ^^
Thanks everyone for the tips. I’ll have my tech (aka my little bro) see about installing those.
Friday!
Hello fellow OT’ers
Busy, so much to watch.
Waiting for subs on QIHM. I’ll have to be blind to miss miscaps and spoilers.
Finished: JIN2.
Watching: Scent of a Woman, I Do, I Do, Fondant Garden, Kagi no Kakatta Heya , H.I.T. and
My New Fair Princess
Hope everyone is doing well.
John -
Glad to see you’re doing well. I’ve been doing a little yardwork, since with all the rain we’ve had, 1) the ground is soft and; 2) the weeds are WAYY too happy. LOL
Still on the fence about Fondant Garden, but with QIHM done and your recommendation, I might peek at the first couple of epis this week. I’ve tried to stay away from food-oriented shows to keep me from being hungry while watching them. LOL
Take care!
Shuk~
I’ve watched Eps 1 & 2 on DramaFever, Viki has more eps, but the video quality was horrible. I’ll wait until DF picks up the rest.
What’s My New Fair Princess? A TW-drama?
Still haven’t made the leap into watching QIHM…
Watching I Do, I Do, but I can’t say I’m entirely hooked (after two episodes… but there are two more to watch that could get me more interested – we’ll see).
alua~
Actually, I should have put, New My Fair Princess, sorry.
It’s a C-Drama, also known as / New Huan Zhu Ge Ge and New Princess Returning Pearl
It’s a 98 episode marathon at three seasons.
A common girl, Xiao Yan Zi, (XYZ), during a coincidental encounter, XYZ promised to help Zi Wei reunite with her long lost father, the Emperor
XYZ is a crazy character. She disses the Empress big time has even thrown blows with her.
I love the costumes, kung-fu, love triangles, all of that good stuff.
I have a weakness for C-Dramas, J-Drama, K-Dramas…
i think someone needs to get on making dramabeans a QIM banner STAT. i must relive my undying love someway haha.
im also said hyun woo oppas going to the army but like jb said, its all a timing game and to go after THIS damn, everyone will be desperate for him to come back!
and i just realised im going to korea or exchange half way through next year for exactly one year, so im gna be in korea when he is DISCHARGED omg omg. gna be there, no question.
i honestly feel like people are doing themselves a disservice for not watching QIM. before i was like meh, each their own, their loss if they dont wanna watch this or that but QIM is different, i just want ppl to be as happy as it made me. sigh withdrawallll
Happy OT everyone. I am starting leave on Monday and finally have time to marathon through QIHM. I am on ep 5 and hopefully some sort of subs for ep 15/16 will be ready by the time I am at the end.
No ramen, chips or soft drinks for this marathon. Going to make some cubed radish kimchi, musangchae and gamjatang tomorrow. Plus have some kimchi chigae and galbi all ready. It’s a Korean weekend till I am done with QIHM
Nope, no soju, it felt like I was drinking paint stripping liquid poison
So happy chatting while I go discover what the fuss is all about with this guy and the kissing that you all keep swooning over.
Hey chingu!
Yeah, kissing scenes were spot-on and heart-thumping, in my book. And the plot!! OMG, the storyline and execution were so well-done. It’s my fav this year by far. I don’t know if it will nudge SeGa out of first place over all, but it’s definitely climbing over some of the others.
I happen to like soju, but I agree it’s not for everyone. I sometimes have allergic reactions to certain types of alcohol, but not this, for all of it’s amazing ability to fry the back of your throat – lol.
Have a great weekend!
The acrid poison taste that just about half kills you is what makes the anju (side dishes) you gobble up straight after so delicious.
I don’t think you should give up on it altogether– try cooking up some lemons with sugar to make a simple syrup then mix with soju for Korean-style limoncello!
Hmm a variation on tha might be fun, although I drink it straight up.
My father makes his own limoncello, so I have to stay loyal to that. Plus, he makes it yummy and strong, just like Boong Do – lol
My head is so warped on Bridal Mask it’s not funny. Seriously, most. fcked up. kdrama. ever. And I’m lovin’ it!
Mystisith, we need to talk, nao~! Please~please~please~????
*puppy eyes*
Hi Rovi! Something to say?
Hi too~!
Before I turn in (and I know this is completely in-topic but very very old…), remember this? http://www.dramabeans.com/2012/03/queen-in-hyuns-man-releases-romantic-promos/
Especially @comment 3.2.1…
Oh yes! I remember now… Hello teacher^^.
Indeed, that QIHM show messed with my head and the laws of physics. But damn, i loved it so much…
Hahaha~! XD
Just to reiterate, though, I found your reply to my comment shocking; I’m not part of the staff, and hell, I’m not even in Korea to begin with…
…it would take a lot for me to be transported to the motherland, and already I’m too old for me to be an idol (LOL)
And yeah, guess blame my over-creative mind for the interpretation, then…XD
thanks!! u guys rock!!
Hi DBeaners
I too am a lurker and occassionally comment on something interesting.
Someone here recommended the japanese drama Legal High and I started watching it yesterday. Its really good and I immediately started thinking that K-Dramaland should adopt it and Shin Ha Kyun should play the lead with less comic and more charisma (read…. sexy!). Please K-Drama Gods….
Atiras! Thanks for coming out of the shadows and waving.
There have been a bunch fo sucessful adaptations (Hana Yori Dango / Meteor Garden / BOF) and some less so (Absolute Boyfriend / Zettai Kareshi), so I approach the idea cautiously.
The jury is still out for KDr Jin versus JDr Jin. Still, it’s fun to think on who you would pick for a particular role, especially in a story line you like. And, who knows, it might happen!
Take Care!
hi Shukmeister
yup, guess u r right. I dont watch JDramas at all and this is the first one. Really liked the plots of all episodes so far.
I am a big Shin Ha Kyun fangirl…. that man is daebak! He is what Al Pacino was in his hey deys…..and then some because Shin has greater depth and range than Al (although to be fair Hollywood does tend to stereotype and entrench actors in repetitive roles).
I guess i want to see more of my darling shin ha kyun in less intense roles to bring out his cute and sexy side
He does tend to go for the more serious roles, but I have to admit, I could watch him brood all day long.
Happy Friday OTers & Beaners!
I’m on k-pop fever, I love kim dong-ryul and his verandah project so much but it’s so hard to find the romanized korean lyrics or english lyric for his songs.
In fact it’s so hard to find the lyrics other than idol songs!
This days I love the cheery break-up song from Park Ji-yoon where javabeans posted on QIHM recap. I wanted to sing along but I couldn’t ’cause I’m not a korean speaker. So it sucks to just humming, I want to sing too!
So if any of you know a link I can load to, please tell me..
Thank you!
Hi, I love Kim Dong ryul as well. I have his song “Like a child” and I haven’t listened to his other songs yet. He sung that one with Alex (the chef/actor/writer/TV personality) and it is a beautiful song. I saw Kim Dong ryul on KBS on “Sketchbook with Hyeol” and he seemed like a very nice man.
. Have a great weekend!
That’s all I can say for now
The quarter is over which means so is my drama moratorium! Yay marathoning!
Greetings, My Wondrous Beans!
The sun is shining, and Cynthia is right – it’s an incredibly glorious day in our neck of the woods. My weather app says that is going to change…but for now I’m happy.
Daughter is in Tennessee enjoying the music and mayhem of Bonnaroo until next week. Oh to be 19, in the company of good friends, unlimited sunshine, and endless music…
Even though I’ve seen 16, the pain of QIHM 15 still lingers a bit. I’ve heard that a director’s cut DVD will be out in August. I think I might have to own that. I’m already planning which blanket to knit for YIA/JHW wedding in 2.5 years. And then the baby blanket (first of many) in 3.5 years. Sorry, Oppa.
My boys are gonna be in NYC! Mama will be there, too.
Loving the new shows: Big, Gaksitaaaaaaaaaaaaal, and (oh, MOST ESPECIALLY) A Gentleman’s Dignity. I will probably try to catch Ghost this weekend, since people are praising the plot.
JoAnne! You West Coasters are just too chipper for a vampire like me. LOL.
I’m waiting for the BB updates to see when they will be in NYC, and crossing my fingers they might be in DC. I figure I’d drive that far for a NASCAR race, I might as well drive that far to see cute boys jump around a stage. LOL.
Completely invested in AGD and BIG. I’m archiving Ghost and Gaksital. Not really looking at IDID, even though I love the actors. I think I just want some light comedy after QIHM’s intensity.
East Coast, Shuk. East Coast. C and I are both in Hepburn land.
See, even my directional abilities are warped working the late night shift – lol. Still too chipper, though…
QIHM and AGD are my fave dramas at the mo. Surprised this is the 1st mention of AGD on the OT this week but the QIHM ‘scandal’ seems to have taken people’s thoughts. I know these are Korean actors and all but it seems the agencies are going overboard. Wondered if they are doing it on purpose-it’s definitely got me more behind JHW and thinking less of the agencies.
Hi KDrama Fan, I with you. I am more behind JHW and less behind the agencies.
Ivoire, you and I are of the same mind when it comes to his issue. I think he was so brave to throw that out there, and I’m sure he’s aware of the environment. I just think that its so sad that just because this man said he liked this girl all this “scandal” is happening. It should be a good thing for these two adorable people to start a real relationship if they developed real feelings for eachother. I don’t think I’m ever going to understand what’s bad about what JHW did.
I’m having a hard time liking A Gentleman’s Dignity. I get some flashes of really clever humor in the dialog, but the JDG character is just so, so egotistical, abrasive, cold, manipulative, self-centered, and nasty I don’t think I can believe his eventual redemption. I don’t care if he gives handkerchiefs to crying children – he treats everyone else like lesser beings (if he deems them worthy) or dirt (if he likes them).
I know that in some ways Jo Gook (hearkening back to one of her previous heroes) was also a cad, but I understood why he did the things he did – here, I’m not getting any motivation beyond meanness – like a kid who likes to pluck the wings off butterflies.
And the heroine acts like a 12-year-old. Honestly, I don’t know what I am going to do about this show.
The only thing I really like about AGD are the little vignettes at the beginning of each show.
Especially the latest one with Kim Min Jong doing all the SNSD dances in front of SY because he’s a total uncle-fan.
^0^
Hi Everyone!
Gosh feels like it’s been forever. Shooting through briefly to check up on everyone. I’ve been crazy busy and needed a little recoup time after finishing the last few dramas. Thinking back I don’t know how I made it through, lol.
Loving QIHM. Loving the BTS drama even more. Girl…get your man and stop messing around.
Haven’t really been keeping up with my dramas due to schedule, but I plan on catching up this weekend. Been trying to keep off the drama boards so as not to spoil myself.
I want to see Big Bang in New York, but hesitant about going alone. No one I know is even remotely interested in Kpop. It’d be great if there was a meet up or something for us lonely Big Bang loving souls.
Hope everyone is well. Gonna peak through later to read through the comments. Have a great weekend!
Date-dependent, of course, but for now I plan to attend. Shuk is thinking about it, and CV might even come from the mid-west. There’s a couple people actually IN NYC that we haven’t heard from who might be interested as well.
I know. I’ve already started checking out hotels.
I usually go with a group to NYC and we split expenses to stay in the nicer places, but in this case, I will prolly do it alone since the only people I know who love KPop are some kids from my church, and I’m barely responsible enough to keep my own butt in line, yunno? lol
I’m still willing to meet up with anyone going and see if we can go as a group, though. Just throwing that out there.
Yeap, I am definitely thinking of going to see BB. LIke Joanne said, depend on the date of the concert. I hope BB update soon because I’ll need to plan.
It seem like I’ll be the only kpop fan of all my girl friends sooo it would be awsome to know others are fans and going.
Shuk, I like the idea of going as a group. Safe cost and it’ll be more fun. ^^
*save LOL
Need to cut my nails.
I think so too! I’ve never been to K-town, so that could be interesting.
The primary bus line I use drops me off at 35th St and 6th Av, near Herald Square. Then I stay at a Best Western at the theater district. Which would be close if BB is performing at MSqGa.
When I take the secondary bus, it literally drops you off in the middle of Chinatown on Broome St. I then use the Best Western / free breakfast, 2 blocks from Little Italy. That’s where I pick up a bunch of pastry from Ferrara’s for my parents in the hours before I leave.
But I found a couple of hotels near Central Park with good rating and decent prices. They’re not named hotel chains, so I know my usual girl group would never consider them. So if I end up going alone, I’ll probably try one of these more funky places.
Let’s all stay in the loop!
Remember when the BVS 6-Pack was finalized, we were talking about renting a penthouse suite to hold all us drooling noonas? This could be the time we finally put it into action!
I too like the idea of going as a group. I have tons of frequent flyer miles that I’ll need to burn before the end of December, so why not on something cool like this? I bet they’ll play MSG, as the SM folks did earlier.
LET’S MAKE THIS FANTASTIC HAPPEN, BABY!!
I’d love to join this group if the date fits!
Happy OT everyone!
Hope you are having a great Friday(Saturday for some)!
Watching Ghost–really good–intense as always. I won’t write any spoilers since some people don’t like it but you’ll have to watch it to understand. So many twist and turn in this show.
Big–oh wow, funny. ^^ I like it so far. Pls don’t stray into the unknown plotline.
Jin–haha. This one sure is humorous when it’s intended to be serious. I just can’t help but laugh. Great watch though–looking at Jaejoong. ^_^
I do Ido–still good but there’s not much scene with two main character…yet? I hope to see great chemistry but I’m not really seeing it so far. Let’s hope the next couple of episode.
Now, onto Jihyunwoo’s confession—omgoddest! I really ship him with Yoo In Na. I hope their feelings(if there’s any) are true. Sad to see get enlisted but hey.. the faster he get’s in, the faster he gets out right? 2 years isn’t all that long.
Just think of hyun bin—he’s almost done! yey!
yeah, just six months and a week to go…it’s like waiting for Christmas to arrive, hahaha~!
Hi all!
I wasn’t around for the past 4 or 5 weeks.
I love Big! I want more of it.
I’ll start watching QIM soon-ish (probably tomorrow).
Happy Weekend!
Hello Ricky!!!! and welcome back! *Waves* I hope you ended school with good grades and that you are ready for the summer. Will you be taking summer classes? Working?
Enjoy QIHM! I would be interested in your thoughts about it. I would also be interested in your thoughts about what has been happening behind the scenes (I am sure if you don’t already know, you will know soon enough and you will understand even better when you watch the drama). Please let me know what you thought of the acting in QIHM (the main four actors).
Hi, Iv!
There’s no such thing as summer break here. I’m back in school and the new semester has already started last week.
I read about the confession. Frankly, I don’t know how to interpret his actions. I do know that celebrity relationships are treated with extreme caution in South Korea. I wish them all the best (with no bitterness whatsoever even though I adore YIN).
Furthermore, I’m one of those people who care more about the actual drama than the drama behind the drama. For now, I’m excited about watching it. I’ve been reading all sorts of compliments about the drama so I’m looking forward to 16 episodes of pure entertainment.
Hey Ricky, good to hear from you! I will be back later to comment on your answer…
Hi oppa Ricky! ^^
Good luck with school and if anyone else gives you trouble, let us noonas know. We will back you up–no problem.
Otherwise, I hope your weekend is going well so far.
I have my own battalion of noona soldiers. HAHA
Ricky TRH *HUGS, HUGS, and more HUGS*
So glad to hear from you! Sad that you still have lots of school, but very glad that you are in school pursuing your plans, goals and dreams. I checked the countries weather forecast and it looks like no matter what, it could be hot to really hot but, you can’t avoid that humidity. Do you have air conditioning where you live?
KTeen is leaving at 4:30 a.m. to start the long trek back to S.K. He has a short one hour flight then a five hour layover until the really long 16 hour flight. He went to bed at 8 p.m. already.
We are all sad to be parting, but God willing, he will be back in just two short months. Makes me wonder how your mom is coping with you so far away.
How is the Royal Family? Any secret power struggles going on? (you know like the Kdrama of the same name, ha ha!)
Here, mom-in-law finished up radiation treatment but still has to take some sort of pill for a bit longer. We pray the cancer is totally gone.
How are your classes going? Which one is your favorite?
Wee MJP finished up his first year of preschool and still doesn’t understand why he isn’t going to school. He asks me each morning if it’s a school day. So we play school at home.
Great to hear a blurb from you, if you don’t have time to respond. And don’t worry about your sweet wife, I think her head may be on a little more securely than many think.
It’s always nice to hear from you, MJP!
I was actually looking forward to the start of the new semester. I got so bored at home during the holidays.
I think I turned into an ahjumma, watching daily family dramas on TV. LOL
The weather doesn’t really bother me because I got used to it. It’s cooler at school so that’s a huge relief. I still want more rain though. It rained for 10(!) minutes yesterday. By the time the rain drops hit the ground, they would have evaporated.
My parents are fine. I think they are healthier than I am at this moment. Both of them appear to have shed some weight. When I was home, I noticed I never saw them between 4-7pm. After asking my father about it, I got to know that he goes to jog every day during that time. And my mother apparently goes to the gym every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. She joins my dad in the park on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
I’m so glad that they are taking care of their bodies better. They’ve always been conscious about health and I think I told you that I was forced to do a lot of exercise while I was growing up. The other day, my mother bought a Latin dance DVD. It was fun dancing the Cha Cha and Rumba with her.
My favourite subjects are French and Anatomy & Physiology. I guess knowing 5 languages isn’t enough for me. French classes are so much fun. Pronunciation is tough though. My lecturer for Anatomy & Physiology has a soft spot for me, I think.
A few days ago, she called out my name and said “You’re dangerous”. On the following class, she said “It feels like calling my husband every time I call you.” It seems that her husband and I share the same first name. HAHA!
The bad thing about that is that she doesn’t know any of the other students’ names so I’m always in danger of being questioned.
Don’t worry about it, I’m sure two months will go by swiftly. Wee MJP sounds so adorable!
p/s please excuse my grammar mistakes
Ricky TRH,
Glad to hear about your life. Parents sound really good too, I’m so happy for you all. The dancing sounds like a lot of fun!
What would happen if you passed out name tags to your classmates at the door to class? Maybe she would see their names and call on someone else? LOL!
French is a beautiful language. I took one and a half semesters in high school and just loved it.
Anatomy & Physiology… I have nothing to say except, “Do you like watching dramas about doctors?”
No, I don’t like dramas about doctors. Haha
What grammar mistakes, lol. You write better than a lot of native-English speakers I know.
LOL Just in case, you know.
I’m too lazy to read back what I typed.
Oh, boy, ricky, your girl hit it out of the park.
She is THE actress everyone wants to be right now.
Please let us all know ASAP what you think of the show.
As much as we all love JHW as KBD, Hee Jin was what made the story work so well.
Nice to see you, as usual.
I am frenchified, too, it was my major, if you can believe it, in college. Bonne chance with the classes!
Bonjour, Jomo!
I’m watching episode 1 now.
I’m besotted. Completely entranced. Unblinking and grinning like a fool.
Everything looks good in this drama. The story is zipping by so fast. I’m entertained, to say the least.
And I want her ringtone. Does anyone have the link?
I’m trying my best with French.
It’s in one of the recaps, but I am afraid you will be spoiled going looking for it. Let me see if I can track it down and post it here for you.
Ringtone thanks to kittymommy in Ep 6 recap
http://www.4shared.com/mp3/naGa-Lml/Deok_Hwan____-_____Queen_In-Hy.html
Awesome!
Thanks so much
I forgot to say, Shel is alive and well and in the midst of ‘I live in a beautiful part of the country and everyone will come visit me all at once’ season.
Today she’s at the aquarium with little munchkins, but she said to say hi.
cv! Yeah, that rocked me back a bit. Still, I think he just felt like he had to say it.
The fanatical restrictions on those actors are just ridiculous, from all-hour filming to forcing them to live clandestine lives just for some normalcy.
Still, the army time might help diffuse the situation a bit as well. If they were truly dating, she would already be aware of his enlistment date, so I hope they have plans [cross fingers].
Have a great weekend!
Now how did this happen [looking around, checking the edges]
This should have been under 33.33. Sorry, cv!!!!!
LOL it’s ok. ^^
Happens. hehe
> Hello OT! Hope everyone is well and happy! I was out of town last week, and now everyone is coming to my house. :0) Yay for lots of family and friends who wanna come see us. (Really, they just wanna see the beach, lol)
Today, Monterey Bay Aquarium, tomorrow tidepooling in Davenport, one of the best tidepool locations we’ve found anywhere on the CA coast.
All my dramas ended, and I haven’t had time to really start anything else. I watched an ep of BIG and an ep of AGD, liked both of those. Been watching QIHM, which I LOVED!
THere need to be more hours in the day.
Hi Shel! *HUGS*
Happy summer to you. I hope you enjoy the time with the family and friends!
Hi MJP! Haven’t “talked” to you in forever! How are wee MJP and is teen MJP still living with you now that school is out?
Shel,
Wee MJP is currently sad because Kteen flew back to S.K. on Saturday. He will be back with us in two months. He emailed me and said that he misses us. AWWWWEEEEE!!!!! He is busy with his family though, so I don’t expect that he will miss us for too long.
How is the visit going? Are they still there or have they left since it’s Sunday/Monday now?
Hi and hello everybody!
The hot subject this Friday seems to be THE CONFESSION. Well, I think it would be cute in any other land/media environmenr than Korea. I think it’s silly to first show and announce every private matter and then cry over rabid fans who intrude their idols’ lives. I personally find such actions embarassing for the ‘other’ side – whatever she does, will be wrong for some people. If she accepts – she’ll that nasty fox who seduced a younger colleague, if she doesn’t – she’s a b*tch who doesn’t care for the feelings of a tender youth. All in all such matters are to be discussed privately and with consideration, it was an unpleasant stint from JHW. Wanted to do something grand? HEH. Now that’s what makes me cynical.
Whatabout my dramaland? I would have never guessed that my favourite drama of the current offerings is A Gentleman’s Dignity. It seems the only one basing on real life, without any more or less absurd or overdone plot devices. I laugh a lot watching it, I like the characters. What’s there not to like? I hope the characters won’t get heavily traumatised or won’t indulge in noble idiocy. The ones seeming to be jerks can please follow their paths, since a well portrayed jerk is a seldom treat but a delight to watch, too.
I am still waiting to watch ep. 4 of Ghost – I’m still on the fence, whether to keep it or drop it. It seems too forced at times. I know a part should scare me or intrigue, but it makes me want scream WTF from the top of my lungs. I don’t know. I don’t know. Maybe if I want to see SJS I’ll just rewatch something else. He really seems miscast here (ok, I still haven’t watched the 4 ep). What do you think of Ghost?
I also had a glimpse of Gaksital. Well, I love the recaps, but cannot get excited enough to watch more than several minutes of the actual drama. Maybe at some later stage of the show?
Have a lovely weekend
Hi Kopytko, and thank you for sharing your thoughts about the CONFESSION. I don’t see why YIN would be viewed in a bad light (whatever she chooses to do), especially because JHW is not that much younger than her. He is only two years younger. He’s a younger colleague for sure, but I don’t know how much of a “youth” he is. He will be 28 this year (29 in Korea) and 30 in two years.
The singer Baek Ji Young has been dating someone nine years younger than her and they have even made some photo shots and spreads together. I don’t know how that was received originally in South Korea, but that couple seems to be doing fine. I have seen interviews where her boyfriend (also a celebrity, actor and model) has talked about their relationship.
I do agree that JHW should have spoken privately with YIN (that might have been more appropriate and considerate), but I can also understand that as someone put it here “he was so elated” he wanted to share the news with the fans and make a romantic gesture. He made a mistake, he’s human (we all make mistakes). Hopefully he will learn from it and move on.
Hi, Ivoire
I mean, there is no reason (at least a reasonable one LOL) for people to be interested in celebrities’ private lives at all. I just happened to read an article about fans going crazy about their ‘oppas’ and it pointed out, that the girlfriends of the said actors often get attacked, slandered and so on (roughly all the unpleasant thing we saw in Ghost). I felt it made Yoo InNa an enemy in ‘fans’ eyes. (Not in mine, sure) Therefore I think it was silly of JHW.
On the other hand, I am used to think that most precoius moments in life are precious because they belong only to two people or at least to people who genuinely care. Sharing it with strangers doesn’t make it that special, I guess.
Hello Kopytko, and thanks again for your answers, which have given me food for thoughts. I will come back later and respond. If you have the time and remember, check this OT over the weekend. Thank you
Sure! See Ya!
Have to diasgree with yout assessment of the “confession”. I think his confession was sincere, honest, and heart felt. I appreciate such raw emotion.
If I was the recipient, I would feel awkward–yes, but I would also appreciate the sincerity. (If it was me, I would feel embarrased but also “giddy”…)
I don’t see why we would think ill of YIA. Whether she accepts his proposal or not is between the two of them.
What I meant was a tendency to hate idols’/actors’ girlfriends as the foxes who take away the crazy fans’ oppas. It was my feeling because of an article I read yesterday – one about misunderstood idol worship.
I personally don’t want to know about actors’ private lives neither do I care to judge their relationships or whatever they tell publicly about it (to tell you the truth I don’t really believe in all the news of the kind, to me they’re PR stuff). What bothered me most, was that JHW disregarded YIN right to privacy – he spoke public about matters that should first be discussed among the people involved.
Hi kopytko!
the confession—I thought it was sweet. I hope that if she does have any kind of feelings for him, go with it, see how long it last. There is nothing wrong with it. If she says no, cool. But yea, there will always be fanatics out there that will hate just because they can’t have things their own way. That you can’t do anything about—lives of being a celebrities–everyone wants to know your business.
As for Ghost—I still like it alot. I like the fact that I it’s a cliffhanger after another–can’t tell what’s going to happen–and even if you do guess, you’ll be wrong. LOL
Well, that’s just my two cents.
As for Gaksital, I read the recaps but can’t get into it. Maybe it’s not by type of dramas ? I don’t know. Will watch someday. ^^
Hi cv!
I guess I’ve become really cynical, up to the point I cannot appreciate a gesture everybody considers sweet. I find it annoying.
I watched the 4th episode of Ghost. This one was good. SJS still not really in shape, but LYH improved nicely – or the character was written more carefully? Anyways, new development and details are on the logical side, so I’m fine with the plot and already waiting for next week
Gaksital – I wonder what is it about – maybe too intense to watch right away?
kopytko, haha, I’m sure you aren’t the only one. But hey, if a actor likes his co-actor, he should have to right to eh? Just leave him alone. At least he had the guts to share it with the public about it since he is a public figure/idol. I mean, he didn’t have to but did it anyway cause he want his fans to approve perhaps? and beside, those who watches qihm loves them as a couple anyway.
Haha! but whatever. I’ll say it again…some people will never be happy and will not let others be happy either. But as a fan of him, I would like to know what’s going to happen to the so call confession–if she answers yes or no. But that’s about it.
Did you like ep 4? hehe I thought it was good. It really pulled the show forward. and the end of ep 4, man, what a twist—-so many questions going on in my head.
Gaksital: i don’t know… possibly. To me…..I think I watched tooo many dramas at the same time that maybe one more is just…well..meh? LOL
Well, I am wholeheartedly for separating private and professional life. The only people who can approve or disapprove are the respective families. Everybody else – stay out. Of course, most people wish their favourite actors well – me too – but nothing more than that.
Happy OT everyone! Just dropping by to wish you all an awesome weekend. Alright gonna go watch Prometheus!
I saw the news abt JHW confessing to YIN yesterday. I have to say that it was very brave of him to do that in public. I agree that it may greatly affect her career but then what abt him. If he doesnt do it now, then when???? No one can say when is a great timing or not unless one does what they want and figures it out. I am glad that he did it cause it is a thousand time better than keeping asking yourself “what if” questions in the future. I admire him for doing that. At least, he is brave enough to do it, whereas, some of us never have the balls to do it and live with regrets. Hwaiting JHW!!!!!!!!
Started Queen In Hyun’s man this weekend and it is amazing! I’m thoroughly addicted.
I think this weekend I’ll watch the second episode of Big, although I’m super sad to find out that the cutie high school kid is in a coma. I really fell in love with him in just that one ep and I know his personality is now in Gong Yoo, but it doesn’t really feel the same. I don’t know.
I’m also going to try and find time to start Gaksital, and what’s the word on Ghost? Good, bad, boring, what?
Also did anyone get Big Bang’s new release? I think I love it more than Alive. Ego is sooooo good.
I got an email that it shipped today – very excited!
Heh – you are SUCH a T.O.P.-lover! Did you see the review that eatyourkimchi did for KPOP Music Monday for Monster?
I did and laughed. TOP is my favorite but at this point I just adore them all. PRETTY certain I will go see in NYC. Come with!
Happy Friday Dramabeaners.
Reading the friday OTP comments is good for the soul I swear. I haven’t been able to comment in awhile due to work/life craziness.
On to the dramas. ….
So as many do I love love love QIHM, I actually feel sorry to the people who haven’t experienced it yet because yes its that good. I still have the last 4 episodes to watch. I actually have been hesitating toward watching them because i just don’t want it to end.
As for other airing drama’s – I am really digging
Gaksital. I actually was not super duper interested because have been in the mood for lovey happy happy dramas but its pretty Awesome. Joo Won is really good he is both scary yet sympathetic. In one scene you are rooting for him and the very next hating him and delighting his failure. I am definetley in!
I also like I do I do. The male leads is super adorable and I actually like Kim Sun ah character alot can’t wait to see what happens.
On the fence about Big, I am intrigued by the mystery around the Gong Yoo’s doctor character and still not sure about who the OTP is which makes me want to watch more. But overall its not that funny (I loved MGIAG, Best Love and YAB) the jokes are really obvious but not really funny. And i feel too aware of the fact that Gong Yoo is acting like a kid. You know in other body switch dramas you forget about the actors and really believe that is the chracter (I.e 49 days, freaky friday, etc) but that hasn’t happened. But its early so will give it time.
AGD – I only watched the first 2 episodes and its Just ok so far, I really hate all of their hair cuts so i find it really distracting! lol Maybe they are just too old for me to care.
Also started Birth of the rich for more JHW action. He is really charming in so far!!
So i still haven’t found anyone to share my drama love/obession/addiction in person yet. I am actually thinking of trying to create a meet up group for K-dramas, there has to be more kdrama lover in chicago right!
But how hysterical was it to watch the scene in AGD where they had the schoolboy flashback? That was just flat-out funny – talk about bad hair!. Those ahjusshi faces in school boy uniforms just killed me!
LOL – that made me sit back and laugh, too.
That was gold.
Heya from central Seoul.
Wondering where all the AGD lovers are.
Come on y’all. It’s time to spread the word.
Here and well here! AGD is a total crack. It’s doing the magic of SeGa again. How do i know that? I can take a scene randomly and a silly smile appears on my face. The funny scenes have me laughing on the floor. The men are awesome and i’m waiting to see the kids a bit more. New episode tomorrow. Preview is the best:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCe-oNSEkA0&feature=g-like
I’m here! I’d jump up and down excitedly, but then I’d throw out a hip and exacerbate my arthritis. LOL
I’m loving AGD immensely. Finally, leads I can drool over and not feel like a perv…
- Do Jin is an adorable a$$hole. Funny thing is, he knows it, but he might be willing to change for the right woman.
- Tae San is cute and clueless. Nevertheless, I think he has a strong personality that he keeps hidden. I think he’s the heart of the F44.
- Choi Yun is the peacemaker. He’s the glue that keeps the four together. I also look at him as the smartest of the bunch (although not necessarily the brightest).
- Jung Rok I just want to curb-stomp. He is the least likeable character, the impulsive one that has everyone else dropping everything to do damage control.
I do hope Yi Soo looks through her closet and finds her spine. I think she likes the feeling of being in love, but needs someone agressive to push her a little.
All in all, a terrific portrayal of professional folks in their [cough cough] prime of their life. lol
Wow! a very good character analysis!
. I admit they’re very fine, handsome men, but simply of my uncles’ and aunts’ generation. It is refreshing not to be distracted by crude attractiveness
Though, my sentiment is from the other angle: finally characters I genuinely like (Ido!) without drooling over them
Cześć kopytko!
Crude attrativeness does have it’s place in the world.
Since they are of my generation, I’m happy to drool over them in your stead. I am definitely loving the bromance honed over so many years of friendship.
You are right, though, to say it’s refreshing having a plot that is not overflowing with ingenues and wide-eyed innocents.
Cześć!
Yay for adult people in dramas! I don’t remember a drama that would make me laugh that much. I may not fall for the characters but I can definitely identify myself with their ways of thinking. They feel more human than those young and blandly innocent characters. You don’t get a chance to see a well written, truly innocent character, do you?
Needless to say I like dramas with teachers as heroines
.
Speaking of which I finally managed to watch Mr Socrates with Kim Rae Won (sighhhhhh) and the Teacher there was a massive inspiration, although just a hypothetical, since I mustn’t bite my students’ ears…
Have you ever seen Great Teacher Onizuka? It’s an older J-drama about a streetwise guy becoming a teacher. It has a lot of tropes in it, but still an excellent show.
Oh, I guess I tried looking for that one but for some reason I never got to actually watch it. Hmm maybe I should give it a try? Thanks for suggestion!
It may not be overflowing with ingenues and wide-eyed innocents, but so far the lead female is obviously virginal and perhaps terminally immature. I don’t like her at all, I have to admit.
Love the show. My favorite so far from the new lineup.
Oh gees I literally grin from beginning to end except for when I positively cackle with laughter. I adored every minute of all 4 Epa so far. I know there is some sad coming~~they gave us hints~~but that is ok with me. I know some think Do Kin is nasty mean but I do not see him that way at all. His humor is very dry and he really likes messing with YiSoo but seriously how could anyone not? She reacts like a nut! And in his favor he has been REALLY open about liking her since early on.
I’m on board with AGD. I’m at bit ticked at the H after episode 4, but it does look like he gets served right back if the preview for ep 5 is accurate. And I love the relationship between the lawyer and the sister too so cute. The married player makes me laugh out loud. And I’m intersted in what’s going to happen now that it looks like the h crush is going to find out.
Hi, I’m new to this website. I really just wanted to post something because I read a lot of your comments and I think it’s great that you all share my current obsession. I used to watch some Korean dramas but I stopped and now I’ve started watching again. It all started with Jang Dong-Gun in Chingu; it still makes me ball every time I watch it. Of course then I had to watch All About Eve, as well as Tae Guk Gi: Brotherhood of War, and The Promise. I also saw Full House a few years ago and loved it.
Now I’m back watching Korean Dramas; I started watching Boys Over Flowers and now I’m on a Lee Min Ho kick, watching City Hunter right now. Now Jang Dong-Gun is in a new show so I’m starting that one next! I’ve also starting listening to some music—Kim Hyun Joong’s cover of “Love” is just beautiful.
Anyways, sorry for the long rant, I just wanted to thank you guys for sharing my love of Korean dramas. It’s nice to know there are people who are hooked like me.
lennonfrk!
Welcome, and stick around for more K-, J-, Tw-, Th-, and C-Drama than you can shake a stick at! Plus discussions on pop bands, the entertainment business, and the occasional politics.
Lee Min-ho’s was the first WTF moment I had when watching BOF – thank god he didn’t adopt it for real! City Hunter had some great characters, with my favorite being the prosecutor. He was so doggedly determined, but still looked at Lee Yoon Sung as an ally in the end.
Another one he was in (maybe not as successful) is Personal Taste, where he plays a architect. Still hot in a suit, though.
BOF – I was talking about his hair, by the way. Some serious curly curls!!
Yeah I like his hair (and pretty much everything else, including his pink pants) better in City Hunter. His hair is too curly in BOF. I’m probably going to watch Personal Taste and A Gentlemen’s Dignity at the same time. There’s only so many episodes of A Gentlemen’s Dignity out right now so at least I can’t stay up late watching that one!
I got my Thai friend hooked on K dramas, too. Funny because she used to watch Thai dramas because she didn’t have to read subtitles and now she’s watching a bunch of Korean ones.
Thanks for the welcome, it sounds like there’s a little group of friends here.
There’s some good lakhorns I have watched to: Jam Loe Rak, Kaew Tah Pee, Roy Mai, and my personal favorite Love Never Dies.
There’s not enough english subbers, though, so the amount of Thai television is limited.
And, there is always room to add more friends!
There are lots of drama addicts here. ^^
You’ll fit right at home.
I’m in the very small minority those who really enjoyed QIHM but wasn’t completely ga-ga over it. ( I feel sort of left out)
AGD for me is totally hysterical. I can put real life names to each of these characters. Which probably just means I should hang out with a better class of people.
What I’ve seen in the drama is not that far off of things I’ve seen in real life.
Big has a lot of potential, and being the Hong Sisters fan that I am, I’m in! Having GY and LMJ as the leads doesn’t hurt either.
Gaksital is so far the drama that has my heart. It has all the things I love in this kind of story.
1. Dark Anti-Hero (always a fav!)
2. Kickass Heroine (girl power!)
3. Tragic Bromance (oh the tears!)
4. Secret Identities (masked avenger for the win!)
Please Show, continue to bring it!
So far 2012 is shaping up to be an awesome year in Kdrama. More please!
Hey Trixie! Good summation. I, too, am currently focussing on Big and AGD.
Gaksital is being stored for when I have more time. I watched the first two epis, and I think it’s one of those dramas that you have to really pay attention to, and not watch it while washing dishes.
Great year so far! I hope my sleep bank can handle the withdrawls!
korean movie trailer i came across today: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=DpguKGTYe8c
basically the plot is about a lesbian couple and a gay couple become involved in fake marriages to hide their homosexuality.. sounds interesting!
It does sound interesting!
I found a trailer with Eng sub btw
[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zj3T0CvdP1M&feature=related]
I want to watch this! Sad they can’t be upfront with their folks, though.
Happy Friday OTers!
Fully enjoying Gaksital, and looking forward to finishing QIHM. Also heard the news over Ji Hyun-woo’s big annoucement. Poor guy probably didn’t expect the huge hullaboo.
Whimsyful!
Good seeing you, and thanks for the tv trope updates!
I think he’s been in the business long enough to know a bombshell when he sees one, I just think he was so bubbling over with describing how he fell for her that ultimately he blurted it out. I imagine an “oh crap” moment in his head a split second too late.
I think it was stupid to cancel the festivities because of it, though. Talk about blowing things out of proportion. Geez.
Hey Shuk, hows your week going! I’m planning on adding more to the QIHM page finishing the last two eps. I’m planning on adding a page for Bridal Mask after a few more eps come out.
Yeah, I heard they had cake for the planned reception that went uneaten in the confusion? Total waste ;_; But that’s k-ent for you. At least the kdrama world is more well-wishing than kpop. I still shudder at the memories of the rages and bashing when Shin Se Kyung dated that dude from SHINee.
I agree with your thoughts on the infamous “confession”. Truly a “Did I just say that out loud?” moment. Some things are better done privately. Especially knowing how K entertainment and the fan-girls are.
But seriously, who cancels CAKE?
Darn right!
QIHM has been keeping me up at nights. I go to bed thinking of it and I wake thinking of it. I want to search for the writers online and become their fan and follow their tweets. I want to join Ji Hyun Woo’s fan club. That’s how bad my love for this drama is.
The only dramas that have given me such joy in the past year are Flower Boy Ramyun Shop and Syndrome. I’m getting into BIG but nothing can top the aforementioned three.
I’m hoping Ji Hyun Woo doesn’t get too much flack for his confession. Such crappy timing for enlisting in the army. Just when he’s found a new love and just when his show is an international hit. I hope he will be able to pick up the momentum when he returns. I’d like to think that all things happen for a good reason but …keeping a relationship and acting momentum up for two years …gonna be difficult. I’m thinking though it might be possible.
From what I’ve seen of his music on youtube, he seems to have it in him to be quite a maverick and to not fall into the premade categories of Korean celebrities. He seems very unique and his own person and the reaction of the agencies (if the agencies are really so mean as to be offended) might be enough to spur him on to idiosyncratic genius mode. I just feel that he is a very different kind of performer. I wish him well.
Re: confessions .. from what I’ve seen here in the US, South Koreans do seem to be very shy. I was talking to the proprietor of a shop I frequently visit and totally praising the Korean dramas, Korean food, and he seemed to be freaked out by my enthusiasm. Yeah, I don’t think emotional enthusiasm goes down well in that culture…even if it’s shyly gently done.
*Just My 2¢*
“Big”. The new Hong sisters drama, has turn out to be better than what I had anticipated, I must say that I do like our heroine, I read some of the comments, and I will disagree, tend to understand why she seems to be that way.
Our heroine is one of those woman we all know, that struggles with her self esteem, after not been able to pass her teachers certification, her sense of well being is provided, by the prospect of marrying the hot looking doctor, She is fully aware that she is out of her league, but little by little she is becoming aware of the reality of the situation, and just as the end of epi one she confronted him with the fact , that she was not happy with the way she was being treated by our doctor.
Also after the switch from or second male lead, is logical that he will seem much more immature and childish then before, but his over all reaction, is spot on, since he is trying to over-compensate, from such a great age gap. Overall I think Big s bound to be another Hong sister success.
“Ghost”. On the other hand, Ghost has suffer a major blow, from losing Daniel Choi, the story line remains as strong as before, the acting of all the other actors still very good, but So Ji-sub acting still “sucks” as much as it did before, the only reason because I drop “Road #1”, was because of him, I will continue watching this drama for the story alone, but I must admit that this drama without Daniel Choi is not the same, what a shame!
“I do, I do”. I am very happy that I started to watched this drama, while it is a Rom/Com, Kim Sun-ah, once again is delivering an stellar performance, what I love about our heroine, is the fact that she is a very strong woman, and that getting to the “TOP”, has its rewards and its drawbacks, while being the envy of many, the sacrifice she has chosen, in contrast to one of the girls in her staff, is clearly seen, in one hand she has fame and a lot of money, while sleeping alone in a closest full of shoes, while the other complains, about the long hours, and having to leave her children with the baby sitter, but at the end of the day, she spend her nights with a loving husband and her children.
The Hero while at her side, he seems to be of the “Beta” persuasion, he is not, he just happens to be a Alpha male, that due to his circumstances, has not been given the chance, to succeed in life, in a legit way, he clearly is a leader in his own right, while his father is the engineering, side of the operation he is the cunning front of the business, something a beta male wont be good at.
I love this OTP, in one hand life is forcing our heroine, to reevaluate, and reset her priorities, while giving our hero the chance, to grow and become a proper adult. I think we can see Kim Sun-ah acting at her finest!!
“Dr Jin”. I stop watching Doctor Jin after 1 and a half episodes, the reason being is the IMHO, Japanese have made and art, of translating manga, in to film, or live drama, and doing it very well, and Koreans some how still have the uncanny, ability that made their version always look, if not stupid at least silly at the end of the day, a shame because the J-Dorama was and still awesome!!!
“Gakistal”, Same here, I drop this drama after episode #1, and my reasons are more of a personal thing, I love Period/Historical dramas or film, if it is base on real facts, than it should convey that trough out the show, the sets, the placement, the music, makeup, and clothing, should match the period they are trying to recreate.
There is a scene in the drama when our her is in a Ballroom bar and he dances with a girl, to some “Swing”, and we can see a band playing in the background, the bass player is playing a Gibson Thunderbird bass, and the guitar player is playing a A Fender Stratocaster, our drama is the in the 1930′s, but Gibson introduce their Thunderbird basses in 1963, while Fender introduce the “Strat”, in 1954. I do personally dislike when the people in charge of the historical accuracy of a drama/movie do not do a proper research, and the totally screw up, something as simple as a historical replica, of an electric guitar and a bass, maybe I am that shallow, but that oversight, just turn me off this drama, so while the story line maybe OK, I am afraid that the rest of the historical content, may be all over the place!!!
Good Day!!!!!
It’s a real good day. (◠‿◠✿) Have a good one too Amg1.
I too am able to enjoy both Big and I Do I Do, and decided to leave all the other Kdramas alone, yes, even QIHM and its confession scandal. Thank goodness for that!
We are all well aware of the fact that the DB writers have been ranting about Big Bang TOP’s being “rumored to be casted in just about every drama/movie under the sun”. Well now, they can calm their agitations because guess what? He’s been confirmed as the main lead in a movie called “Alumnus” and will be playing the role of a killer. Again.
http://www.bigbangupdates.com/2012/06/yg-official-press-release-top-casted-in.html
I’ve always been apprehensive when it comes to genres that has the “trained assassin disguises as high school student to avenge/seek out sister/brother/father/mother/lover” stamp all over it because very few can really, and I mean successfully, make an impact. There’s just something about the “killer associates with high school” concept that is a tad bit too contrived and far-fetched and even clichéd.
I’m an avid TOP freak but I still place emphasis on the outcome and quality of films(or of any art forms) over my hormones-oriented fangirl craze. I’d hate to hate a film that someone I admire so much is in. What an unfortunate slight.
I’m a TOP fan too and I’ll watch this alone just for him. ^^ Goodness, he plays the dangerous type so well.
Haha! Admittedly, I am guilty of looking forward to this film because of TOP too. Let’s just hope that the movie has substance so that our TOP can flourish.
I was hoping someone would have some good recommendations for romantic comedies that are more concetrated on the humor and the romance than the angst. I would be grateful for any recommendations.
http://mydramalist.com/
This is a good website!
Well, Queen In-Hyun’s Man that just finished fits that criteria well I think. The last two episodes are still waiting for subs though. There is angst, but the focus is definitely the love story and it’s one of the best IMO.
As for some others, it’s hard to find any without some angst, but I’ll try to pick the ones with the least.
Any of the Hong Sisters dramas are pretty high on comedy although there is some angst. But all have an HEA. My favorites are You’re Beautiful, Best Love, My Girlfriend is a Gumiho.
Coffee Prince is always a great romantic drama watch and mostly low on angst.
My Name is Kim Samsoon is another really good funny drama. It also has a mostly HEA.
Hi Rashell, what does HEA mean?
Happily Ever After
Hello Carole, and thank you for the explanation
I second Coffee Prince (although when I recently rewatched it while waiting for the second ep of “Big” I skipped pretty much all the scenes with the two second leads, especially those with the annoying female one!).
How about Shut Up Flower Boy Band? Although it isn’t all romance focused, more bromance than romance really.
And Protect the Boss?
Flower Boy Rayum Shop? (which I did not watch, but from the recaps and everyone’s comments I got the impression that was mostly a fun, rather than an angsty ride)
Do you want just K-drama, or also J/TW and/or films?
If J-drama, Kimi Wa Petto is awesome.
Flower Boy Ramyun Shop is really great.
I still haven’t finish the ending. The show lost me at unveiling half-brothers bromance.
I know..I kinda groaned at that as well. I hate most of the tropes in K-dramas. Orphans, pseudo-orphans, fauxcest, evil greedy or lovelorn women. So the revealed siblings thing did bother me. But I pushed past it because Jung Il Woo was so good and the script was funny. I wanted to see how he would grow up. The trope I hate most of all is the coincidence trope, where everyone is connected to everyone else and way too much happenstance pops up. So I’m having a lot of trouble with Dignified Gentlemen because of that.
If you can push past the sibling thing, it’s a funny show. Plus there aren’t that many episodes after that one.
speaking of hwang, has anyone seen full house 2 yet?
It’s not out yet, is it? I’m waiting for it.
Isn’t it airs only in Japan…
