Good morning Kopytko, how are you?

I was thinking about you last weekend and this week, mostly because I said that I would come back and answer some of your comments (and I meant to), but life got the best of me, so I never got around to doing it. My apologies, I will add those comments here, if that is OK with you.

I hope that you will have a great weekend! :-)

Good, I am glad you are still curious, partly because I do have some things to say and I would like to share them with you. I usually have to read (or have a conversation with someone) and then go away (and process what was said) and that is how I usually realize how I feel/what I think about a particular issue/ drama etc... So that takes a little bit of time. However by the time I share my thoughts, it is clear what I think and (usually) where I come from. It also makes for some interesting conversations.

So I will make an effort to write my comments this weekend. Thank you for your patience and for checking this blog and this post often to see the updates :-)

Good morning Shukie, (I was trying to say it like they do in Kdramas, like Lee Min Jung [Daran in Big] said it in BOF, I think. I know I have heard her say it somewhere, and I like the way she says it).

I am good! How are you, and how are your parents doing?

My folks are doing good, probably beter tthan me some days. lol.
Dad's surgery went fine, now on to 6 weeks of rehab on his hand. My brother actually came over and helped with the lawn at their house [faints from shock].

The landlord is still a slob, but we are slowing working on it. hee hee hee. Now that the summer is here, things have gotten busy at work, but that means the shift goes by that much faster.

Oh Yay!, you are here. Question. Dr. Jin - Kim Na Na sticks Dr. Jin in the thigh for rapid volume replacement (dehydration from Cholera, weak rapid pulse, non-responsive to deep painful stimuli, post-ictal) - So, she inserts, according to the subs, a needle into his (superficial) femoral ARTERY, (direction of insertion - mid thigh - pointing toward his pelvis), for fast infusion of fluids. What's wrong with this picture? Am I nutz? Would you ever insert an indwelling hard tipped a-line for rapid administration of fluids in the superficial femoral artery, or any artery for that matter, and, not only that but pointed in the opposite direction of flow, in a hypovolemic and possibly septic patient? I don't seem to be able to convince anyone that this makes no sense. I tried to get it changed to vein or vessel but, no luck. Am I missing something? This is supposedly a modern medical practice that she learned from Dr. Jin, who has tp'd to the Joseon era.

0

Welcome to the wonderful of drama, where CPR can bring someone upright and talking in a matter of moments. lol.

That's true, all regular IV's are specifically straws entering the venous system and set in the direction of blood flow. During that timeframe, there would have been no modern plastic cannula-based IV needles, so that premise would be correct.

However, the femoral artery lies deep within your pelvis and is not easily accessible.

With the possibility of immediate exsanguination from an arterial stick, especially accessing of one of the largest arteries in the body, the writer is officially stamped "Did Not Do The Research"!

Modern medicine will use the femoral artery in a backflow procedure, but that is specifically used for cardiac catheterization and stemi repairs, mainly due to the need to access the heart downflow. A catheter used in this procedure is typically 2 mm in diameter and 100 - 110 mm in length.
The procedure is not without danger to the patient, and the pressure bandages post-procedure are carefully monitored over many hours to make sure the patient doesn't bleed out.

So, yeah, time to file that one under "the patient is dying and needs oxygen - use a nasal cannula!" school of television medicine.

0

wow your explanation below sounds like it came from an V&I radiologist. Are you in medicine or are you just really good at googling? : )

@Dux -

I was a Biology major in college, and for the last 25 years volunteered at my local rescue squad as an EMT-B level pre-hospital care provider. Plus I worked part time the past five years at my local children's hospital, mostly in the Hematology / Oncology Department.

I'm also a medical trivia buff and a great watcher of the Discovery Channel. lol

As for my response, most of it came from my internal databanks, but I did need to go to the NIH website for the specific information on the angiography catheter.

Like a quote from My Cousin Vinny - "She's not a mechanic - her strength lies in overall automotive knowledge."

:-)

Hi Shukie,

Glad to know that your dad's surgery went well and that he is currently going through rehab. Your brother came and helped, yay!!!! *claps excitedly for you*
Is your landlord still eating your snacks? :-) Hopefully with you living there, he will become less and less of a slob, overtime :-)
You are busier at work, that's good, right? And that is supposed to keep you out of trouble, right :-)?

I hope you had a great weekend! Ours was very sunny and my friend and I attended a benefit concert yesterday, that was a lot of fun. Jennifer Hudson and Bruno Mars were some of the singers. I didn't know who Bruno Mars was until yesterday, imagine that...

0

@Ivoire

It turned out to be a pretty good weekend here. Had a barbeque at my noona's house for Fathers Day.

I first heard Bruno Mars as BGM during FBRS. Then I looked up his other music.

Take care!

0

No, I'm in London... and am not from there either but from somewhere on the European continent.

Would be nice to be in Japan though, I feel like I have been in London too long! (going on 3 years and here for probably another 2!)

0

Ah, thank you for correcting me. I confused you with someone else who also participates at times on this blog. I remember you now. Are you studying for your PhD.? And I think that I remember that you do a lot with the Asian Studies Department at your university, don't you? And you are supposed to meet with Raine once she is in England, I think (or in London).
I visit your blog every so often, and I remember reading about a movie documentary made about Koreans who grew up in Cuba. That looked very interesting (stories about diaspora), it is the kind of things I am interested in, and I study some of it in school in my home country and when I was in college in MN.
P.S.: I might have gotten some of my information about you wrong again, if that is the case, please forgive me.

0

You did pretty good... :-) except for the Asian Studies Department. There isn't actually one at my uni (they are soooo European-centred, boohoo). All the Asian stuff (film watching) I do for fun in my free time...

Ah, the Dance of Time documentary! I really quite liked that one.

0

Hi Alua,

I really did like reading about the Dance of Time documentary, I would like to see it one day (I hope I will). Diaspora and cultural differences are some of the things I studied when I was in college, so those kinds of topics really interest me.
I hope you had a great weekend.

The weather has been atrocious for 3 weeks here and I'm using the time normally devoted to the garden for my blog. I posted a lot recently! I'm recapping AGD now (this show sure brings people on your site!) and the subs for Can Love Become Money? ep 5 are almost done. Yeah!
I didn't follow tvN news so I can't help you with that. :(

I am really curious about what TvN broadcasted instead of the canceled special episodes of QIHM. I hope I will find out somehow :-). I do hope the weather will get better for you soon :-).
Passe neammoins une bonne fin de semaine, je l'espere.

I hope you will have a wonderful week :-)!

P.S.: I would love to hear you sing at church :-), I might actually sing with you :-) (that would also be the only option, since I couldn't move next door at the moment).

Are you watching any dramas lately? If yes, which ones? Are you enjoying it/them?

I was on my phone reading and somewhere in ep 16 of QIHM recap, I saw a request. But can't find it again because there was like 400++ comments.

What were you asking? Over in Daum you can ask questions and people can answer. But I actually don't know what you're asking " don't pick up the phone" ringtone? I didn't go to soompi and I need a YT video of what you're asking about first. You want the actual Korean song it's from or just whether JW sang it?

In fact I still haven't watched ep 13-16 of QIHM yet.

The ring tone that is on HJ's phone.

Someone is singing - in Korean of course -
"this is the sound of your phone ringing."
and
"Pick up your phone.'
It sounds like JHW, but what do I know.

Wait a minute, I think I found the anwer in the name of the FILE! Duh! Deok Hwan sings the the other song on the OST.... So maybe it is him!

I met a man hanbok – gatted.
And then again, beanie-hatted.
I told him that I was the Queen.
We even shared a shower scene.

He likes to read, oh, and hug.
I kissed him cause I felt a tug.
That pull stretched 300 years.
(That bond brought me many fears.)

Smart, broad shouldered, smiley, tall.
He answered cause I made a call.
A line that stretched 300 years.
A cell that’s not what it appears.

Together, now, we’re learning things.
We can’t see what tomorrow brings.
We’ll face the joy as well as tears.
With love that spanned 300 years.

Also enjoying Big!

Finished reading Nalini Singh's Psy Changling series (13) and book 2 of Nora Roberts InnBoonsboro trilogy. Very good so far!

And on a happier note, my fan-fic of OT regulars is completed!! It only took 144 days to write 31 days of story line. No wonder the live-shoot system flubs the endings so many times because I can't even remember what I wrote in the first chapter. LOL

A few more books on my Kindle and waiting with baited breath for the epis of AGD.

Hey Shuck!

Did you see those recently discovered papers from the physician who attended Lincoln at the assassination site? Fascinating - MSN made them available online. Took a bit of time reading the original handwriting script, but well worth it. It's always interesting when these historical gems pop up out of nowhere.
:)

0

@ Cynthia!

One of the authors was Bill O'Reilly. It not only ticked down to the assasination "24 Hours"-style, but discussed the reprocussions afterwards. I haven't looked at the those papers, but there were several chapters devoted to the physician's actions after the bullet struck.

Hello Everybody!
It's been a long week.
I am still a little light-headed with A Gentleman's Dignity. It is the first drama that I literally rewatch and giggle and then rewatch again and again. Really, the characters are so relatable and likable that I cannot help and have glimpse at their antics.
Of the other shows I watched Ghost and I am disappointed again. Actually I cannot put my finger on what's wrong but something's missing. The mysteries that could keep us excited are revealed too quickly, the characters that could be developed are pushed back. Maybe this drama was written to remind the viewers what a sinusoide is?
I had a look at Big and it didn't catch my eye nor did it move my heart. It took me like 25 minutes to watch the last episode. Reading recaps seems more exciting. And Gaksital is too exciting for me to handle, too intense. I need a fluffy, funny, light drama, so I stick to AGD.

Actually, I like Ghost like this. IT's great that we know who the killer is but the Main characters or good guys don't. I feel like yelling at the screen--don't you know? haven't you figure out yet? Or just plan Run, watch out! LOL
Also, in a way, it's almost setting up the backstory of why each person did what they did. Maybe none of them are really bad but circumstances--can change a person who see's grey to black and white or vice versa. IF you seen episode 6, there are hints here and there about why things got started and got to this point. :D

I watched the 6th episode and it left me a bit confused. I guess I must be a bit slow on the uptake. There were those scenes from police academy where WooHyun was portrayed in a different light, then the scene where KiYoung left without explaining it openly to his friend. SO were they close or they weren't? Was WH computer-literate or he wasn't? I mean both guys seemed on par when it came to hacking matters... When did WH become the bad cop?*stupid me*
I am a little dizzy, but stick glued for the next two episodes :)

spoiler alert for Ghost ep 6!

The flash back that KY had of back in the academy days when they were in the dorms together showed them as best bud, both wanting to be police officers (on the side--learning to hack) but KY was just better at it then WH. He sneaked into files that he was not suppose to look and found/read something that he was not suppose to see(something to do with SaeKang? company--which is now headed by CEO). That is why he was caught(still green) and interrogate. He was taken away and WH wanted to know why. KY's dad came and talked with him--told him to forget what he saw/read because he won't be able to do anything--they(regarding to SaeKang security?) are too powerful to cause any harm.
I think at this point, KY was really disappointed at his father and being a police officer because if you can't fight for what's right, there is no point in upholding the law. This I think is why he really quit the police academy. He didn't tell WH the reason why because he couldn't.
Another part that was really telling was when CEO was at the cementary---talking to his father? This I'm not sure but the date on the headstone was 1949-1999. This makes me think has a connection to KY or his father. 1999 was the year that KY hacked into the file and he quit for no reason. There is a connection here somewhere but I'm sure they won't tell us until later. Or perhaps I'm just thinking too much eh?
I think maybe WH got roped into something that he couldn't get out of. Possible he needed the money? to help his Dad who's in a vegetable state? I'm sure they will tell later on.... I hope---why he got into with the baddies.

People think the method of reconnection came out of the blue and that the writer wrote herself into a corner.

I am not one of them.

0

Required fields are marked *

Hi JoAnne, what does it mean to write oneself into a corner?

0

Ivoire -

It's a old saying, and can be looked at this way:

1) You start painting a floor but you don't pay attention to the exits in the room. Near the end of the job, you realize that you have no choice but to keep backing away from the fresh paint, until you are in a corner and nowhere near an exit. You can't get out of the corner or the room without stepping/damaging the work you just did.
----
So people are basically saying; with the burning of the talisman, the cell phone is a convenient plot device the writer just pulled out of the air to save the canon couple.
----
For instance, in my example above, the intrepid homeowner doesn't know what to do, but suddenly the roof is removed from the house, and a crane lifts them out of the room.
A local construction crew got confused over which house needed to be demolished and so started tearing apart the wrong one.
The site boss didn't want to make a mess, so he instructed the crew to carefully remove the roof in one piece, and voila! the homeowner is saved, the house is repaired, and the floor looks great!
----
Hope that explanation helps.

0

Did you see in DB recap of either ep 1 or 2, where they told us what the chinese characters on the talisman were? Two of them were "call" and "communication". Which totally makes it work for me. I didn't really have a problem with it anyway, but knowing that makes it even better.

0

It's just the feeling I had after reading the last recap here. Some commenters and javabeans were upset with the phone talisman.

0

Required fields are marked *

I think most everyone seem to want something logical to explain why the cellphone was the tailsman and how he got back to her.

I like the ending myself. She brought him to her by (remembering him) her love for him after reading the letter that was suppose to be what--300 years old? Called a number she doesn't know or not suppose to remember and zap he went to her. Happy ending. :)

0

Back then you communicated with paper, now you communicate with phones. A perfectly plausible link.

Only watching 2 dramas at the moment.

BIG and I Do, I Do. Neither totally satisfies me, although they are both pretty good.

BIG: I wish Daran wasn't such a weak kind of girl... Love KJ, whether in Gong Yoo's body or in Shin's.

I Do, I Do: Ji-Ah is more the kind of heroine I like - definitely not stupid, strong, but also vulnerable. I like her somehow. And I like the guy too (such a sweetie really), although I'm not sure if we are really going for OTP with them. The doctor confuses me a little. And bores me - I get that he is shocked after hearing that Ji-Ah is pregnant with someone else's child BUT he is all high-school whiny about it. She never promised him anything, and he can't blame her for his one-sided feelings because she made clear from the beginning she wasn't interested in dating/love relationship with him. As for Na-ri, another quite boring character that I don't quite understand. Well, she surely has some hang-ups from childhood, but it just doesn't make sense for her to want to be CEO when she has no experience and then to get all huffy about someone who does have the experience. I also don't think Ji-Ah is being a hypocrite - honestly, Na-ri is spewing her hate & anger at the wrong person. As for all the parents: don't get me started on them. I get the arranging bit, but they go too far. You don't arrange a dinner with ALL the parents involved without telling your children. Ji-Ah's friend: I'm sorry I think she's an awful friend. She just talks talks talks and is completely incapable of listening to Ji-Ah, and tells her what to do without even asking her what she feels. And I really disliked the way the moment Ji-Ah said she was premenopausal, Joon-Hee essentially just starts insulting her ("You are like a granny"). Friends are there for support, not to make you feel worse!

DR is really weak, but have you noticed all the characters are a little on the simple side? And they're growing. I feel like this drama is way more a character development drama than previous dramas.

I'm shippping Daran + KJ (in whichever body). I just like his character!

YJ... I don't think he's even portrayed as a total snake, more like very ambiguously. My hunch is that he didn't cheat, but that he just hasn't said "no". You know, accepted the key but very passively and not actually being interested in the female doctor. Whether he's actually interested in Da-ran I'm not too sure - the flashbacks were lovely but I still like KJ better!

Alua,

here's my take on some of the things that bugs you in I Do I Do.

1. Ji Ah - bang on! she is super. hopefully in the upcoming episodes we will see her softening up a little towards romance, being more considerate of her over-worked colleagues etc.

2. Tae Kang - cutie pie!

3. Doctor fella - i think since he is the proverbial bachelor who everybody thought would never marry - he has fallen heavily for the honest (and super hot) Ji Ah. On top of that he is a doc who deals with women (and pregnancies) all the time. so i guess we can cut him some slack here. people do and say crazy things when smitten!

4 and 5. Ji-Ah's friend and her meddlesome parents - dont take the insults at face value. its part of the asian culture where very close people are actually exhibiting 'worry/concern/affection' through insidious 'insults'. in such cases the one receiving it knows her pal is worried about her. it doesnt sound right but is typical of such cultures (i know because i belong to it) ;)

think of all the KDrama parents badmouthing their kids all in the name of parental love :) you can rant all you want but major plots will be lost without these meddlesome folks :)

i agree the pal shouldnt do it but thats how she is. its her nature.
she rants that of all the 20 years of knowing Ji Ah, she has never seen any 'mommy' tendencies in her. also the woman is a single mom who fought a custody battle for her daughter. she is also shown to be conscious about her looks and has what appears to be quite a love life (all the crooning over phone). she appears to acknowledge the career achievement of Ji Ah and cheers her on all the time. maybe to her Ji Ah is everything a woman should be and she herself is everything one should not. so she doesnt want her friend to end up like her (single mom)?
and friends are never perfect. they should not just support us blindly but voice their own honest opinions which may be flawed. friends grow together through good and bad times. i think this character will come around and support Ji Ah as the series progresses. in her own weird way she wants the best for Ji Ah - have a super career, marry the doctor suitor and then have kids - the best type of life a woman wants (in Korea at least)! :)

have a super weekend!

i thought i would write a bit about this to ease your mind about the annoying friend.

0
5
reply

Required fields are marked *

Thanks for trying to soothe my mind :-D

Yeah, the doctor has fallen heavily and I forgive him for being shocked... but unless he pulls his act together and starts acting as a friend to Ji Ah (which is what she needs now), I'm going to get all grumpy about him. I would think though that constantly being faced with pregnant women he would have seen it all - you know, moms that are happy and moms that are unsure and in distress about being pregnant.

Joon-Hee... I don't actually hate her - she isn't evil. But... yeah, you don't pull out your phone to arrange an abortion the minute your friend has told you they are pregnant and visibly upset. But Ji Ah had to yell at her and walk out for her to listen. And all was good once Ji Ah pulled out a pair of pink shoes (too shallow! But at least Ji Ah knows how to handle her friend!).

Have a super-duper weekend too!

"and friends are never perfect. they should not just support us blindly but voice their own honest opinions which may be flawed." Agreed... but I still wish she had listened first and then voiced her opinion.

I marathon-ed all of "A Gentleman's Dignity episodes so far and I really got sucked in.
I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop...and it did finally.
There is a deep, deep well in this man.....for all the times he's accused of insincerity, he doesn't lie... it's just that nobody seems to believe what he says.

Also watching BIG. RAWR for the lead.....ABS.... wow.
The acting is also good. Not too fond of Suzy's character though. Is it weird to be cheering for a teacher-Noona / high schooler in BIG's body pairing?

Watched Gaksital. Can't reconcile 1N2D with the lead.... It hurts my head too much. His face is fascinating though. Compelling when he is in anguish.

Watched Qeeen InSoo's Man - I LIKED it, and I felt the chemistry, but....I'm kind of over the time traveling AND I'm overdosed on Sageuk right now.

Of course I still watch Running Man. I read the recaps from 1N2D too. I came across a gem of a show from 2010 called The Actress' Butler or Fox butler...something like that. I wish it had English subs!

THIS FALL - Can't wait to see Lee Kwang Soo & Song Joong Ki together again!

RE: No Min Woo. I had said that I didn't think he was a very good actor & that he reminded me of Keanu Reeves. (That he was wooden and stiff, but very pretty.)
Someone from open thread kindly suggested that I watch Rock, Rock, Rock and also made mention of how extraordinarily TALENTED No Min Woo is.
Well, holy bologna YOU WERE RIGHT & THANK YOU! I am now a fan. I am gobsmacked by his talent and I hope his career continues to flourish!

not a fan of brown. I don't think of brown as a color. It's the non-color color. the background of color. It's the grave where color goes to die. or cry sad, silent tears of non-color-y-ness.

Brown is my spring / fall backdrop color.
In spring, I pair it with fushias and bright pinks; in fall, reds and greens.
Summer I have a few spots of brown next to blue.
Winter nothing except boots - that's my brown-free season.

I'm actually quite curious about other people's favourite colours (eh, actually, I'm v curious about what other people like such as music).

But recently, I really like asking people what their favourite colours are. I'm a synaesthete and I'm weird. haha!

Isn't that the thing where you see things differently, associate them with colors and what not? One of my daughter's favorite books (along about 8th grade or so) was 'A Mango-Shaped Space' about a girl with that kind of brain. It was fascinating.

Not everything though. I'm not too sure about how things work honestly haha! But I mostly associate/perceive people with colours.

I also see music and sounds. There are diff. kinds though. Like you actually see the colours, which happens to me sometimes or it just happens in your head...It's like those visualizations in Windows media player. My apologies if I couldn't explain it better ^^

How would this affect your social behavior though? In kg when you're just learning numbers and colors it could be quite confusing, numbers equaling colors and all.
you know I have this friend that whenever I read his writing I always see really bright light and smell red earth. there's this other kid that keeps sending me his writing it's always just writing. The thing is these two write about the same subjects- experiences with other men, women on a pedestal- women they can't know, that aren't human beings but women, in general I don't like their stories. But frank's work always has this bright light.
My color and light intensity experiences always have something to do with art though. I think I related a story of seeing sunlight on a shop window one day and thinking I could accurately express that in writing. Like a photograph but not a photograph but writing. I really worked on that for awhile actually and then I realized that it's not possible it's just my brain malfunctioning.

0

I've never really paid much attention to it when I was younger. There are a lot of different forms of synaesthesia and mine is a little different from what you're asking about (number/colour associations).

I was about 18 when I noticed that I was the only person I know who could see shapes and colours whenever I heard something.

Your experiences might really be just an association with the arts or experiences. It's not impossible to see people and anything associated to them and feel something different. It could be perception. But what do I really know? :) We could be synaesthetes together ^^

@ahjummabunny: unless you are a paying customer, you have to be one of the first 5,000 people who log in. If you look at the schedule, each show to be subtitled has a flag. And Chaser is one of those that is close-captioned live as it has a US flag. When you click into show, on the right, you need to select the language that you want to see it in. They have actually improved the close-captioning because it now reads like subtitles (although the timing is still off). And like Joanne said, it sort of sucks now as the quality has been degraded to allow so many people to access simultaneously. I still use but only show is close captioned in English ... otherwise, I use SOLIVE (think it cost something like 20USD for annual access which is a steal considering the quality).

My married son is home for the summer, while he does a law internship here. Yay! We love having them, they're not difficult to have around and we laugh a lot.

I'm attempting to watch Big and AGD. I up to date on AGD, but Ive tried 3 times to watch ep 4 of Big and something always comes up. The first 10 mins are pretty good though, lol.

0

@aioaheen,
I recently tried some randomly from a restaurant. I've been trying to add indian deserts to my indian food orders. The deserts usually have just what I want in deserts and they are usually so sensible. I think things like red bean pastries are sensible as well. The restaurant gave me a large portion and I ate it over several days. It was a nice week.

What are grits?

And what's an English muffin in the US (or the Southern US)? (Actually I don't even know what an English muffin is in the UK, not having grown up here.)

London food is just about everything and anything (very cosmopolitan). Except for the garlic scapes (which were from the farmers' market) and the pumpkin seed oil (which my Mom sent) all that I ate wasn't even that out of the ordinary for here.

Wish I had some chocolate now though. Or this Greek orange/olive oil semolina cake which I have been meaning to make since a friend gave me some.

0

@ Alua

Grits are the little white interior of corn. You treat it like oatmeal or cream of wheat: boil it soft and serve it in a bowl. It's a standard breakfast item in Southern USA.

An english muffin. Hmm, I don't know how to describe it. It's a white bread about 8~9 cm in diameter, flattened on both sides and dusted with cornmeal. When you split it half, it's mostly air pockets. The interior consistency is not like a biscuit or a bagel, but with lots of nooks and crannies where you can slather on jam or butter.

That semolina cake sounds good.

0

heee - English muffins aren't known in England. They have something similar that i can't think of right now but for general combo of crispy AND butter soaked with holes for jam to rest...an english muffin cannot be beat.

http://pinchmysalt.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/08/IMG_6790-Version-2.jpg

0

CRUMPETS! I had them when I was there. With lots of butter and jam in all the tasty little holes.

0

Yes! Crumpets! They're not exactly the same - softer, more bland - but I do like them. One of the girls I work with sends them occasionally if someone's coming here from Sandwich (and chocolate, too.) I always send her back Jiffy Pop popcorn for her husband, and various kinds of steak seasoning.

0

Never tried crumpets but they sound good. I think I'll hunt down a recipe and make some!

When I see something or have some insight especially about dramas, I keep thinking "I should save that for the OT!" But then I forget what it is. Maybe I should write them down when they occur, what is this absentmindedness.

After reading that last recap, I keep thinking I really must watch Gaksital. That's one writer who's not afraid of hurting his/her characters just to make them better! (Yes, I have this hang-up where I want my favorite characters to have happy lives, especially ones I create, so I'm having trouble with writing about conflicts.)

Good morning, DB OTers!

Another bright and beautiful day here on the East Coast - I'm sure we'll be paying for all this lovely weather with a tornado or hurricane. That's one thing about New England if you don't like the weather, just wait. It changes rapidly.

Hope all of you didn't miss HeadsNo2's Doctor Jin recap - it was one of the funniest recaps ever posted. The snark was delicious - almost as good as watching the horrible train wreck of DJ, (shooting diarrhea and projectile vomiting notwithstanding). I have to admit that I've gotten more unintentional laughs watching DJ than anything else I can recall (maybe close was 'The Musical' but that was more me yelling at the screen at GHS's 'acting'...)

Am loving IDID - Jang-woo's character is finally stepping up and KSA is giving her usual stellar performance. And, the shoes. Ooooo.... the shoes.....

It is not wrong, may everyone get what they like. I do like shoes, but good and comfortable ones. I saw the beginning of the first episode when KSA was running down a flight of stairs and had to take off her heels. To me it was a point when shoe designer should burn with shame. The Ultimate High Heel Utility Test is going down the stairs. With good heels, it's not a problem, if it gets uncomfortable the shoes can be thrown away. So there were lots of bling-bling useless shoes in tacky colours. Annoying. I don't like people portrayed as geniuses when they are not really that brilliant. So I took my toys and went away. ;)

We can have a separate archive/blog for that! Something like Kdrama Diseases.

STALKER SPOTS
DESCRIPTION: A disability which affects the eyes, preventing a person from seeing a stalker despite its poor hiding abilities.
CURE: Stalker spots is cured by stalking the stalker and transferring the disease to it.

NOBLE IDIOCY
DESCRIPTION: A disability which affects one or both members of the OTP. Noble Idiocy causes perfectly rational people to forgo communication and opt to end relationships instead.
SYMPTOMS: Sudden wishes for "a day of perfect dating" and mysterious messages in the vein of "We need to talk".
CURE: Noble Idiocy goes away after a time jump or with the help of expositioning friends.
PREVENTION: Should a lover ask you to buy two ice creams, hog-tie him/her and do not let him/her escape your sight.

Seriously, there are so much diseases we can make. Including the TOWELITIS where we can dissect the abnormal towel growth on "Someone".

This is awesome! Also, there need to be laws governing k-drama characters' sleep[ing conditions and behavior]. Example: a femal character is expected to go to bed in her day clothes and with heavy make-up on. This law is also known as the Beautiful Dreamer Law, as it induces male characters' gazing and kissing attempts.

Sigh, this is what happens when the ONLY drama one is watching is Gaksital. It wasn't a happy week, I feel all wrung out and can't even process anymore emotions.

I do know everyone else is watching IDID, AGD and Big but I am not. It's too late to start now because I am SO behind in everything. Dr Jin and Ghost are not even in the tentative to watch list at all.

So the only daily besides Gaksital I am watching is Standby. It's episode 49 today. It took us to ep 48 before So Min finally notice Ki Woo as a man. OMG... that took so long!!!

Hoping we went somewhere tonight but think it will take us to ep 80 right before we get some romance? He just swung her into his arms.He is 192cm, she is 165 cm. They were so cute together :-)

Hey everyone. Another week in Kdrama has passed. So these are the things that happened this week to me in my adventures of KDRAMALAND. Did not catch Thursday night shows so I am 1 episode behind on 3dramas. Secondly, I still didn’t finish Queen In Hyun's Man because of a download problem. Well real player is a multimedia player for the computer or electronic devices it allows you to download video or other formats off of websites say you tube( granted it does not do with all sites) also you can make a video file into audio. Anyway I catch wi fi at my house sometimes good sometimes bad, when its bad I download drama parts with real player and delete them after. This time I was all set to watch Queen In Hyun's Man. I had ep15 and ep16 but forgot 14. I was wondering why I did not understand the first 5 minutes of 15. I am very structured with dramas I really like I watch this show straight through no interruptions. So I’ll just have to wait to go use the internet at my cousins house and I’m back in action.

So I wanted to comment on a couple shows. Right now I think Big is at the top of my favorite of the new summer dramas. I heard online that some people think Yoon Jae and Kyung Joon could be Father and son. I think these people forgot that he is 30 and is 18 Kyung Joon so that’s not possible though I think they may be brothers. You know Kdrama loves making people siblings. One thing I really like is the fact that Yoon Jae seems to be a bit of a mystery. My theory is what if he was trying to get his ex jealous and then actually started liking Da Ran maybe thinking the ex might budge if he knew he was going to get married. It could account for him being wishy washy. Kinda like I’m not suppose to like you but I am really starting to care about you. What do you guys think?

I’m really, really enjoying Marriage Plot. It’s a shame it did not get subbed sooner. But this is my type of show. I’m on ep 7 right now. I had always intended to watch but I didn’t expect it to have as much depth as it does. My favorite thing about the show is the unveiling of Gun Hee we learn that she not actually all that tuff but is just trying to do her best but it comes out all fiery and the more we learn the more we see Lee Kang Jae understand her and like her for who she really is flaws and all. Its actually really cute and sweet. I think when you really understand someone and actually know why they behave the way they do there’s more grace there to love the person.

Next item. So I am watching Bridal Mask and since I like the show I’m going to poke fun just a little.
First thing everyone gets so mad and yells all the time. Can you imagine how much lung compactly they all have. Joo Won whose Lee Kang to is top on my list for best yeller. I think then the cop Kenji has the best scream breakdowns. Also everyone on this show has like 10,000 names. Christian names, Korean names, Japanese names, and nicknames. LOL

Plus this is the most intense love/hate couple yet. Usually Kdrama couples argue and bicker not try to kill each other. But this couple does. Some one called them the knife couple. Although its more of a dagger but it just doesn’t have the same ring. So I’m going with Knife Couple, he gave her the dagger she tried to kill him with one it just pure love man. You can’t stop it. LOL.
Ok I do have a questions though. Had swing/big band/jazz really exported to South Korea in the 1930s. Though I love the costume and set designs but every time thier at the club it looks like 1930’s America version of a jazz club. I know it up to interpretation of set designs and make up/hair and I don’t mind if not exactly down to T 1930’s style but I’m actually really curious.

Lastly I do really like I DO I DO. I hope the show milks the pregnancy for all it worth. There so much material there. Swollen feet I mean she shoe loves shoes. There’s hormones so her emotions will be all over the place. Plus all the other embarrassing and life changing things that come along with being pregnant. I hope the show makes them gradually fall in love with each other because they both need to mature as people but in different ways. She will soften up and he become more mature. I think that Tae Kang will actually be a great father.
First you have to look at his own relationship with his Father they have a great one. Yes he still not mature though which has to deal with lack of experience but there a lot of potential there. I think her having the baby will be the catalyst that makes him grow. She’s actually more mean to him then he is to her. You can see he is a caring person by the fact that he keeps looking for the lost shoe design and he’s the only person who goes out of his way to do things for her and he is also working hard to get the house back for his father even though its added pressure on him. Even though he may drag his feet at first he always steps up. I actually think they suit each other perfectly they balance each other out. He has the right personality to handle Ji An. But he’s still not mature enough to know how to do it purposely. This is where the doctor gets extra brownie points because she comes with all this power and he disarms her by being charming and earnest. The doctor and Tae Kang are actually alike it just that one is older and more mature Tae Kang could actually be just like the doctor when gets older they have similar sense of humor, both caring, sincere. The problem is the doctor just didn’t have fate on his side Tae Kang met Ji An first.

On a side note about Jang Woo. I saw the preview for We Got Married this weekend Eun Jung and Jang Woo are finally back together. Here a preview from this weekend episode
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=-iC8s38qCgQ

And I saw photos from the shooting this week which will be in a later episode lets just say it involves poles. it’s a spoiler so here.

Happy OT!

Was talking with Shuk on Twitter about how much I love maps. She mentioned mapping a favorite k-drama man's chest, and I mentioned having enough of those for all days of the year.

Then she shared this gem with me and I have to share it here:

"Map a Chest A Day" Daily desk calendar for 2013! Free sharpie

BWAHAHAHAHA!

<3 for Shuk. Who, btw, finished her story! YAY!

I leave for England next week. HOORAY! :D So excited!

And I LOVE AGD and Big. I feel no inclination to watch IDID and I'm about to start Ghost and Gakistal. But I love Kim Min-jong in AGD. Like love. Super ahjussi crush. (Don't worry PSH, you're still my #1)

Hi Mashimomo,

If you go to http://www.dailymotion.com, some kind soul has been uploading the subbed episodes. You can search for 'the Hamzter', her QIHM videos are clearly labelled. Sorry, don't have the direct links on hand at the moment. I've been watching them on my iPad so I don't think you'll have a problem. Enjoy!

Happy OT beautiful people!!!
I've missed you, I've been away a few weeks.
Well it's a combination of me watching very little dramas, and not being anywhere with internet when Friday comes.
Well, this is my 4th weekend in Spain, and I've been working seeing doctors (for me and for mom), enjoying family at times, not so much other times.
I finished QIHM, the seconde kdrama I finish this year. SUFBB was the first. Well I watched also Soul (thanks to Raine) and DH2 (but I would rather forget about this one).
The thing is I am not excited about dramas lately, so I've been watching jdramas to avoid emotional involvement in the story and variety shows (for the same reason).
I hope I get over thsi stage soon, but I know it has to do with how I feel about my life. So I'm working on making some changes. I'll let you know when I'm done deciding.

,none of the dramas currently airing have yet fueled my attention to watch them online but AGD is clearly getting there. It's the drama that has me scouring the net online for recaps. It's nice that there are now a lot of blogs featuring the show..

As for non kdrama viewing, I have just finished with CASTLE season 1.. off to season 2! Something I noticed about the show though, more often than not, once a guest star with a familiar face (seen on other shows and the like) pops up, he/she turns out to be a perp, which is no fun at all. May fall come sooner as I'm missing LAPD Det. Martin Deeks (who I dubbed my very own Goldilocks for reasons I can't remember) on my laptop screen..

i'm liking Gentleman's Dignity this is the only one i'm watching right now, i know there are so many new ones to choose from but i just get overwhelmed, i stopped watching Dr Jin for some graphic scenes which i can't stand, they shld stop showing those gross brain operations, that's just unnecessary at times, tho i like SSH so much but with the scenes like that i'm opting!

Hello everyone and happy OT!
I finally gave in and watched Coffee Prince again. I've only just realized how much I love Gong Yoo's/Hang Gyul's wardrobe there (although this might have something to do with my own love for vests). Now I want one of those side-collar shirts for myself.
K-dramas are notorious for the WTF-ness of male wardrobes -do you have any favorites (good OR bad;))? I will never forget Jae Hee's scarves in Witch Yoo Hee, they might just haunt me in my sartorial nightmares forever.

Speaking of WTF male wardrobes, how about the shorts and button-down shirts Gong Yoo is wearing in Big? I swear I had the plaid shirt and wore it with those exact shorts...in 1993. When I was a high school GIRL.

But even that outfit wasn't as bad as the female lead's caftan shirt in episode 4 =X

I had never read the articles - they pre-date my life here, and although I had heard about someone dying on a motorcycle I never made the connection with him - I probably hadn't seen Coffee Prince yet. How sad. He was certainly well-loved. That must be a comfort to his friends and family, even when nothing really can console you for the loss at least knowing that a person was well-loved can make you glad for them.

My first nightmare wth scarves was probably Winter Sonata. lol

I like a lot of the asymmetry of Korean couture - even the lapels are treated differently.
I hate hate hate the leggings / shorts that they wore during winter scenes (like Ojakgyo Brothers). You can't convince me that's warm.
I have great love for a lot of the shoes, especially the ones that are fairly solid up to the top of the ankle but still have the tall heel. For some reason, that makes me think it supports the ankle better than the sandal with the 5-inch heel.

Rain's wardrobe in Full House was a big WTF for me. Plunging V-neck knit top on a man (however choco-abby) is just weird. Another one is Kim Hyun Joo's office wear in Partner. I loved the drama but the suits that the stylist unni made her wear to court were anything but sharp or professional. I get that she's an ahjumma in the drama but still!

Wardrobes I liked:
- Kim Sun Ah's office wear when she became the mayor in City Hall.
- Park Shin Hye's casual summer wear in Heartstrings/You've Fallen for Me.

Good morning My Wondrous Beans!

Again with the glorious sunshine, and my baby is home from her music festival looking tanned and happy. Me and the dog are happy.

We both continue to mend from our falls, although I ...um...fell again last night (well, didn't fall, really - slipped on the stairs) and. Well. Let's just say that my arm really wasn't ready for the rapid and violent extension and I've kind of set myself back to how I felt at the beginning of LAST week. And I slammed my right foot down so hard that I broke blood vessels in my ankle and lower calf. Reaaaaaaaally attractive but not especially painful. It will be a resting weekend for sure.

Let's see. Watching Gaksital (OMG LOVE) and A Gentleman's Dignity (OMG LOVE) and Big (AWWW, so cute...not OMG LOVE yet).

Gaksital - gorgeous to watch. Really absorbing history and struggle. Oh, the brothers. The brothers. The tears. JooWonnie's FACE.

A Gentleman's Dignity - Let's hear it for selfish guys stuck in their ways who live exactly how it suits them and then BAM see a girl and fall in love with her and spend every possible minute going 'Hey, I like you. NO really, I LIKE you. Um, I LOVE YOU.' and having EVERYONE think they're joking. This is comedy gold. All of them. So much fun!

Big - She's an idiot. I liked her better in BOF. I don't even RECOGNIZE her here. Kyung-big and Kyung-little, though? Idiot brother? Suzy the Stalker? PERFECTION. And Gong Yoo with every other word in English? 'Uh-oh' BE STILL, MY HEART.

Also, I watched Hana Kimi. WHY HAVE YOU BEEN KEEPING OGURI SHUN FROM ME? WHY? Also. Nakatsu. Also. Sekime. Also. Nanbo. Also...well...pretty much all of those boys were so adorable I couldn't stand it. I watch a JDorama now and then and think - I really love JDorama. And then I go back to watching KDramas, which I also love, but I forget how much I love JDorama. I'm going to make a point of remembering now.

And now for the BIG EXCITING OMG I AM SO HAPPY news:

Big Bang. Newark, NJ. I have my hotel room already. The minute tickets go on sale, Mama is THERE WITH HER CASH. I will arrive late afternoon on the 8th, driving up from CT. Cynthia, are you paying attention?

So far, I'm thinking this: Palisades Park is 15 minutes away, and jampacked full of Koreans. There's a big KoreaTown. Going. Movie Noona Night IN PERSON in my room for any who want. Soju, snacks, some kinda movie. Might not be able to be Korean, but who cares. IN PERSON. Concert. Major happiness. And then I'll drive home on Saturday.

FANNNNNNNNNTASTIC, BABY.

You didn't know Oguri Shun before?

I can recommend a film with I recently watched with him in it: The Woodsman and the Rain (http://alualuna.wordpress.com/2012/05/28/kitsutsuki-to-ame/)

It's probably not online yet though - I saw it at a film festival but keep your eye open for it. It's fab (out of the 5 films I saw at that festival, it was my favourite one, even ahead of Ghibli's Up from Poppy Hill and Sono's Himizu). Oguri is fab in the film too - really emphasised his versatility as an actor for me.

Now I'm hoping that some film festival will pick up his film Uchuu Kyoudai (Space Brothers), which is double eye candy with Okada Masaki in it too!

I haven't actually seen Hana Kimi so maybe I should watch that!

we have had a lot of korean tourists lately, and it makes me chuckle how they indeed say shitty instead of city in english (like with city hunter). some said we have an unbelievable shitty center.

Happy Friday Everyone.

Is anyone enjoying I Do I Do as much as I am.

Kim Sun Ah is delivering an amazing subtle complex performance.

for my money, she and Gong Hyo Jin deliver the most nuanced performances.

But I don't think that KSA has had a role that pulls this kind of performance out of her. She is amazing in full on accomplished businesswoman alpha.

The young male leading man is okay, but so far he hasn't been able to match her in complexity. I'm hoping just having the opportunity to work with her will increase his skills.

KSA has performed with most of my favorite leading men.

I know she did a movie with Gong Yoo, but I'd love to see her do a well written drama with him.

For me, that would be appointment viewing.

Hi OT-ers!

I started 3 dramas recently; I Do I Do, Big and Gaksital.

I Do I Do - This is the one I like best among the three. Whenever I finish an episode, I cant wait to see the next one. The story and characters are simple and cliche but very heartwarming. I think the osts play a great part for it, seriously love them. I'm enjoying the slow romantic development between the OTP. Its so sweet and touching. but it does kill me too, which I guess why I am so eager for the next episode everytime.

Big - Enjoyable and funny. Gong Yoo is awesome. I kinda wish Shin Won Ho can be more natural and better at his acting, he has the charisma though. Because now I dont know if I want Kyung Joon and Yoon Jae to swap soul back. Gong Yoo is totally hilarious as KJ (His English!! Is he always good at it?? His version is funny, while SWH's is really awkward) while Yoon Jae is plan dull. One thing that irritate me most though, why does Hong sisters always like their heroine to be so dumb and naive?! They are women so I just cant understand why they always write their woman characters so low..

Gaksital - Intense but lack of emotional pull for me and cliche. I kinda lost it when the otp know each other since kids, fate love story again. And the love triangle between best friends. I would have appreciate it too if they dont make it too obvious who the Gaksital is. Anyway, the last time I watch was Ep 2/3. I plan to continue this weekend. One more thing, everytime Joo Won screams i keep feeling like his voice will break. He has some great intensity, and I enjoy his scenes when he doesn't scream, so I hope he will tone it down.

This year has been great with kdramas. I'm anticipating Faith next. So far, The King 2 Hearts remain the most special for me. Well, maybe because I'm Seunggi bias heh, but the characters are refreshing and satisfying, among other things that I appreciate and love about the show.

I plan to check Gentleman's Dignity too but the mixed reviews make me doubtful. Is it good?

I think A Gentleman's Dignity is a very easy drama to watch. Currently, I find it funny and light, so I don't get too worried about the drama (If you know what I mean :P)

I'm watching Ep1 now. So far not bad. Light, funny and romantic. Some parts are pretty boring but I'm still liking it. Thanks! ^^

What's Kim Ha Neul's appeal? I'm yet to be sold on her beauty and talent. And no I don't think she is ugly, she quite attractive but now a wow to me.

see late 90's to early 2000's dramas. She's like kim hyun joo and son ye jin. I think they're all friends. They played similar roles around the same time, sometimes in the same dramas.

OK so I've made up my mind that I want to go to the BIGBANG concert in Newark. My cousin lives in Manhattan so I'm thinking I could stay with her. I, however, do not want to drive. I am wondering how bad the walk from the PATH train is to Prudential Center. It's been a long time since I took the PATH to that part of Newark. I'm guessing it's still seedy? Anyone?

Hope you all are having a good day so far. :-)

It's apparently only a couple of blocks and those of us from OT who are going seem to be congregating at the Hilton across the street from Newark Penn Station. Safety in Numbers?

I would probably get there after lunch time. I am not sure about the ones who have to fly in or take trains though.

It sounds like from the rest of the BB '12 gang that they are going to be there on the 8th. So I'll probably do the same. The bus arrives in Manhatten at 6am.

I am planning to leave my home noon-ish on the 8th. I'm just under 3 hours from Newark, so that should get me right through NYC and on into NJ without any real traffic at all. I might even get to stop at Ikea in New Haven...but then again I may save that for the trip home.

I could maybe do dinner. I mean, you guys have to go see a concert so I could still make it home in time to get to bed and be at work at the ungodly hour. Oh the anticipation!
