Just gonna leave this here. Happy weekend!

A woman accompanied her husband to the doctor’s office.
After the check-up, the doctor took the wife aside and
said, “If you don’t do the following, your husband will
    surely die”.

1.Each morning, fix him a healthy breakfast and send
him off to work in a good mood.

2.At lunch time, make him a warm, nutritious meal and
put him in a good frame of mind before he goes back
    to work.

3.For dinner, fix an especially nice meal, and don’t
    burden him with household chores.

4.Have sex with him several times a week and satisfy
    his every whim.

On the way home, the husband asked his wife what the doctor
    had told her.

“You’re going to die,” she replied.

    BA DUM TSS!

aww man! I’m the first commenter and I start this OT with the lamest joke on the planet. My apologies!

      • 1.1.1 Mystisith

I don’t know for the others but personally I dig that kind of black humour. :)

Me too, brought a smile 2 my face!

      PWAHAHA!

Reminds me of Dr Without Borders (thanks gummimochi). If he ends up marrying Ji An he’ll totally give unethical, opportunistic medical advice like these for his benefit.

    • 1.3 Ivoire

Hi am, what does “BA DUM TSS!” mean? Just curious…

    • 1.4 Shukmeister

Good one! My personal favorite one in a similar vein comes from an 80′s movie called “Crazy People” about truth in advertising:

“Sure you love him. But if he dies, you get a house and a car. Wouldn’t you love that too? John Hancock Life insurance.”

Jesus, people. It’s 10:OH ONE and there’s already 26 comments? We are on FIRE.

HA! Always good to start the day with a laugh. Thanks!

LOL, thanks am for the laughs. It’s panning out to be a good Friday. Especially because it’s the long weekend for Canadians =)

Happy OT Friday, Fellow Beanies! Still is Extreme Hit-and-Run Mode, as we attempt to jam in as much legalese as possible before Court goes dark next week for the 4th of July Holiday. Stupid day off in the middle of the week really messing up our litigation strategy. Hmpf. I do want this trial done and dusted soon, because as soon as it wraps, I’m being sent back to Japan for more work over there. Yeah, it’s a rough life, ne? :)

Not gonna hijack this thread for continued spazzing over the wonderful news of My Precious’s new drama, but that’s the best news I’ve heard for weeks now and pulled me back to Drama Reality. Lots of other things going on in JCW World, as his 26th birthday (25th elsewhere) comes on 5 July and a big birthday party will be held tomorrow over in Gangnam. Oh to be a fly on the wall… sigh.

One good thing about all the waiting-around time at the courthouse is that I’ve been able to catch up (and actually finish – gasp!) a few series that have been hanging over my head for months. Finally in the Done Books is (drumroll please):

    1. Equator Man — Oh my, I didn’t see that ending coming, but it only seemed logical to see Jang-il’s expected descent into madness. The Uhm Force definitely stepped up his game in this show. It’s not quite into my Top Ten EVAH, but a close #11 or #12 seems right. ;)

    2. TMTETS (Fluffy Bunnies Sold Separately). WBDS pretty much killed off all my wanting to watch another sageuk ever again, so I approached this one with trepidation seeing all the spazzing right and left over this one (I still have TWDR in my queue to finish too). It was very, very good and had a more palatable history plotline that actually made me run to The Google searching out more information on some of the actual characters. And Kim Soo Hyun… yum. Yum yum yum. A high Top Twenty EVAH rating for this one.

But my Spazztastic Drama Of The Month — you guessed it — AGD!!! OH MY GOD, I love those boys!! The F44s who revert closer to F22s day in and out just kill me! And the show is also so beautifully filmed, how can you NOT get sucked into the plotline, hm? I’m just glad that Yi-soo toned down her daily tantrums, as those were starting to really get on my nerves. And I’m still sorta creeped out with the Yoon/Me Ahri storyline, but I’m sure I’ll come around eventually. Episode 9′s prologue? THANK YOU, DRAMA GODS!!! :)

Okay chingus, gotta finish up brekkie and head down for what looks like another 16-hour day of fun and excitement. Whatever. You guys have a great day/afternoon/evening, and I’ll catch yas later. Mata ne!!

          • 2.1.1.1.2 Shukmeister

Yeah, I’m actually rewatching all the AGD epis to see the interaction between Do Jin and Yi Soo.

I was amazed at all the little subtle (and not so subtle) things he did to help her out or make known his interest. I didn’t catch some of them the first time around, even though I knew based on the promos they were the couple to watch.

It’s a shame she too dense to see her entry into the F44 inner circle (which none of the other females have accomplished yet).

            I can’t wait for Saturday!

      • 2.1.3 Daine

Thanks, Mystisith! Think I’m jumping on this bandwagon. I haven’t started watching yet but just wanted to say your AGD recaps have been killing ME, so hilarious! I was looking for previews for the upcoming episodes and couldn’t find them anywhere.

OMO, I’M LATE FOR THIS…YEAHHHHHHHHHHH, THANKS!

    • 2.2 bd

WBDS was fluff and too much angst that went nowhere.

TMTETS was good for the “kiddie” eps (due to the very winning performances; much better than the adult counterparts) – and then went downhill from that.

TWDR – simply excellent, esp. Han Suk-kyu’s powerhouse performance as Sejong (the best sageuk along w/ “Joseon X-Files”).

    • 2.3 Noelle

Ha episode 9 prologue. The guy who plays Jung Rok has the best body out of all of them. He looks great for his age.

  3. Ivoire

Hello everyone and happy OT! I hope you will have a wonderful weekend!

    • 3.1 Shukmeister

Good morning, Ivoire! Hope you are doing well in California with the other Movie Noonas.

      • 3.1.1 Ivoire

        Good morning Shukie!!!!!
Hope you are doing well as well. How are things with your landlord? Are your parents still OK? (or better?). Has your brother left? Sounded from last OT (or maybe the one before that) that you were busier at work, still the same there?
Today the weather is kind of cloudy here, but I like it because we could use the humidity and then it is not so hot :-)

        • 3.1.1.1 Shukmeister

So far so good in my life. Just settling in for some OT reading after coming home from a funeral.

The parents are fine; my dad is grouchy because he’s not allowed to do much more than water his flowers, but his doctor might release him a week or two earlier than expected given his healing time.

Over 39 Celsius here, sunny and *h*o*t*. I want to buy the man that invented air conditioning a double blizzard from Dairy Queen.

          • 3.1.1.1.1 Ivoire

            Hi Shukie,

That’s good to read that things are going OK in your life. Your dad is getting the rest he needs so he can heal properly and as a result he might be released earlier and that’s great.
Wow! It is really hot where you are. Is it that humid as well?

          • 3.1.1.1.2 Shukmeister

A little humid, but not too bad. Since I sleep during the day, I miss the ugliest part (usually).

I was busy with my friend’s situation this weekend, and missed your birthday announcement. Je m’excuse.

Now, without further ado, your Shuk Birthday poem:

            ~ . ~ . ~

            Ivoire
            I love to see
Your happy comments on my screen

            Always sunny
            Often funny
            Never snarky or mean

            I know it’s belated
            But still I’m elated
To take a deep breath and sing:

            “Happy Birthday to you
            You hang with a zoo
            We love your long comments
            And your great insight, too!”

            Hope it was great!

          • 3.1.1.1.3 Ivoire

            @ Shukie,

WOW!!! Just WOW!!! Thank you so much Shukie!!! I didn’t expect that :-) . That just made my day :-) .!!!!

You know, I read earlier that you just came from a funeral and I didn’t know what to say at the time, so I said nothing about that. I am sorry however that your friend is going through what s/he is going through. S/he has you being there emotionally and otherwise, and that is a blessing, that you are standing by that person and helping out. I am sure s/he appreciates that.
I thank you for taking the time to write this poem *Just for me, Yay* and I would like to remind you that you are an extremely valuable part and contributor to this blog and to the DB family. We can usually count on you to answer questions we have about many subjects (which can happen not to be related) and I have learned that you will either have an answer or look for one. You are just that resourceful :-) and talented! (Among the many gifts you have).

I will have to come back and comment because your poem has elicited some comments in me (what else is new :-) ? ) but it will take a while so I will have to come back (again, what else is new?)

            Stay tuned, please :-)

            Iv ~

Always happy to be of service. Tonight I’m doing my volunteer 12 hours of rescue duty, so I’ll be off and on as the 911 calls dictate.

I freely admit to being a nosy sor who likes looking for stuff. Probably helpe my with my fan-fic and I hope it helps me with my recap plan and next manuscript.

            Take care!

          • 3.1.1.1.5 Ivoire

            Hi Shukie,

Are you planning to recap something? a Kdrama, maybe? *Very curious now* and it sounds like you might be ready to start a new manuscript? (or have you started one already?) How did your 12 hour duty rescue go? Well I hope.

So, on to the poem: (I will break my response/analysis in 4, meaning I will be responding to each one of your paragraphs [can't remember the technical word for those in poems :-) ]. I think I remember, I think they are called “Stanza,” aren’t they?

1–I am glad you love seeing my comments on your computer screen, as you know, I put a lot of thought into them :-) and I do love writing, hence the long posts. I have also come to realize that I LOVE analyzing characters in Kdramas.

2–I love your 2nd paragraph, thank you for the compliment. “Never snarky or mean,” to be honest with you, I don’t think I know how to do snarky (or at least no well, not as well as you :-) ) so it doesn’t occur to me to try.
About being mean, I know that the temptation with the internet and the anonymity it provides is to lash out and at times express oneself in a way that we might not necessarily express ourselves if we were in front of that person(s). I don’t like mean-ness. I think that we can have different opinions without being mean to each other. I know this might sounds very kindergartenish, basic and simple, but some of the best things we learn about life are taught to us when we are younger, aren’t they?
So I am for agreeing to disagree without tearing each other down. If people believe a certain way and see things a certain way, they might choose to hold on to what they think or they could be swayed by a stimulating debate or at least consider other views and ponder them. Isn’t it a big part of why we come here? Partly to squee about Kdramas and the Korean entertainment world but also to read what other people think and how they view dramas, characters, the writing etc… And to equally share our thoughts with this community? Oh, and exchange helpful tips and information as well, about almost anything :-)
So yeah, I don’t want people being mean to me, so I try not to be mean to them, so far so good :-) And I believe that being mean to people will not necessarily make them change their mind or accomplish whatever it is we are trying to accomplish.

3– LOVE the 3rd stanza as well :-)

4–I do hang with a zoo, don’t I? I wonder what animal I might be in that zoo :-) ? And like in any good zoo, there is such a variety of animals (err… I mean people:-)) here.
“We love your long comments,” awwww… Thank you for loving my long comments. I usually cringe a little at how long they end up being when I see them (I don’t mean for them to be that long, really), but then I see other comments being long as well and that makes me feel better, that other people express their opinions/feelings/rants/raves and that they don’t hold back in the process and I am glad about that.
“And your great insight too!” and I don’t mind sharing it :-) . No but really, I just enjoy deepening my understanding and knowledge of Korean culture (and by extension my knowledge of Asian culture in general) through Kdramas and the conversations we have here. And yes, I can get passionate and enthusiastic in the process, but again, I am not the only one, am I :-) ?

Thank you so much for that poem, I will have to print it and save it. My own poem by Shukmeister :-)
(By the way, I am sure you have explained it before but what is the origin and meaning of your screen name? I suddenly became curious about it and I might have missed your explanation).
2–How do you write in bold here? I tried to do it and it didn’t work.
And being true to myself, this post WILL be long :-) , I can feel it.

          • 3.1.1.1.6 Shukmeister

            Iv ~

I’m in the process of recapping “Baby-Faced Beauty” which was recommended by the DB goddesses but who didn’t have time to recap themselves. I’m done with the first episode, but haven’t added screenshots yet.

And, I’ve also written the first 5 chapters of my next story, tentative titled “Hidden Love”. It’s multigenerational: she is a furniture restorer who finds WW-II era love letters to her grandfather that were not from her grandmother, and he is a widowed firefighter with a grandmother who’s just discovered the internet.

Rescue duty wasn’t bad, just busy, mostly heat- and age-related injuries. Make sure to drink plenty of water before you go outside, and carry some with you as well!

Bold, Italics and Both: It’s a utilization of basic html protocols. It’s a little hard to show on here, so it might be best to google “basic html language” and look at some of the sites.

Essentially, you bracket the word(s) you want to emphasize with an [ON] switch before and an [OFF] switch after.
            The ON-switch is
            The OFF-switch is
The action you want to perform is represented by a letter: B for bold and I for Italics. By putting the letter inside the angles (and to the right of the slash), you essentially toggle the action on and off. Certain protocols won’t work on the DB site: you can’t change font colors or make your words blink. In other sites, this can be done, if you know the right command to put into the angles.

NOTE: For the Bold/Italic example, its best to nest your commands: that is, I [B][I]___[/I][/B], so the switches for italics are inside the switches for bold.

I hope that explanation above is helpful. I’m not a computer science major, just a geek who loves her electronic gadgets. ;-)

As for the screen name, I have an unusual last name in RL, and this is a variation of it that I’ve used for a lot of my creative endeavors since high school. Funny enough, several colleagues recently started using ‘Shukie’ at work as a different version of ‘Shuk’ which what most co-workers call me. Is that life imitating art? A subtle tightening of the Six Degrees of Separation? Proof of the Apocalypse in December? Who can say….

          • 3.1.1.1.7 Ivoire

            Hi Shukie,

I finally found a few minutes to respond :-) . I went to your blog “Musings of a Twisted Mind” (I don’t know if you have another blog, which is why I wrote down the name of the page I went to and visited) to see if your recap of “Baby-Faced Beauty” was already posted and I didn’t see it. Please let me know when it is posted (if it hasn’t been already) and where. Thanks!
Also, I read your character list of “The Prince and His Harem” and I couldn’t see Meaghan’s name on it. Did you notice that? And if you did, was her name left out intentionally? (Just curious…)
I am so glad you are recapping “Baby-Faced Beauty.” I love Daniel Choi and I think that he is a very good actor. I haven’t seen the whole drama yet, only parts of it and I am looking forward to reading your take on that drama.
Do you have an idea of how long “Hidden Love” will be? Or do you usually let the story and the characters speak to you and see where that leads you? (I think you had mentioned in one of the OTs that there [might] be a number of words you didn’t want to go over. Is that a constant or does that change with each story?

Thank you for the tip about the water. I will remember to make sure that I drink plenty of water, and to have a bottle with me when I go out. Those are small but important things to remember.

Thank you also for taking the time to explain how to use bold and/or italic features on this site. I will have to try it to see if I could make it work.

Do you have any plans for the 4th? I don’t, not so far. As always, I am looking forward to your response :-)

          • 3.1.1.1.8 Shukmeister

            Ivoire ~

Happy 4th! I’ll be spending it with the parents, starting by sleeping over the morning directly from work, then going on a picnic together in the afternoon. Unfortunately, I’ll have to work tonight, but if it’s as busy as Tuesday, it should fly by…

Yes, both the recap and the new book will be on the blog. I have a livejournal address too, but that’s mostly for my poetry and such.
            - The first episode recap is waiting on final polish and screenshots. The holiday has tripped me up a bit timewise.
            - The fiction will be in the same 2 Chapters per post format as the fan-fiction.

The reason Meaghan isn’t on the Character List is that she is a complete fabrication, rather than an avatar based on an Open Thread screenfriend. The list just shows which real-life people on which I based a story character. I chose to do it that way, so the girls wouldn’t squabble over who gets Ricky. ;-)

As for length of fiction, I let the story dictate. My first foray into writing, “Hidden Agenda”, was 28,000 words long and was a much-rushed story of a weekend romance. For the fan-fic, I slowed the story to pace it over 30 internal days, and it ended up with over double the word count (as well as taking 144 RL days to complete). So we shall see how the next one goes. I promise to let you know when each burst of genius is posted. 8-)

          • 3.1.1.1.9 Ivoire

Hello Shukie (in case you happen to read this email),

I hope you had a great 4th with your parents and that work was enjoyable (if I can say that). Thanks for the info about the recap and the new fan-fiction, I will patiently be waiting.
The explanation about Meaghan not being on the list makes sense. I was just curious about it. I also appreciated your explaining your process when you write. I am often curious about how creative and artistic people processes go and I wanted to pick your brain. Thank you for letting me do that.
I hope you are having a great day!

        • 3.1.1.2 Shukmeister

Well, that was interesting: the angles didn’t show up. I’m going to bracket them with asterisks, so picture them without those puffs:

          ** is the on-switch
          ** is the off-switch

          • 3.1.1.2.1 Shukmeister

Argh, I give up. Those suckers appear to have invisibility cloaks.

Iv, just look to the two keys to the right of the “M” on your keyboard. Those are the “angles” I’m talking about.

          • 3.1.1.2.2 Ivoire

Hi Shukie, thank you for your response. I am currently busy and I will be back later to respond as well :-)

        Hi Cherkell *waves*

Yeah, I noticed you hadn’t responded to my last email, but I also knew that you had been really, really busy because you had told me so when we saw each other. I figured you will get to it when you can, so don’t worry. Thank you for letting me know however that you had not forgotten, I appreciate it. Did you try the Ginger tea and the chocolate :-) ? What did you think?
        Good news about JCW, huh?

    • 3.3 Ivoire

I’m loving the consistency with the male lead (the portrayal of his character) in I Do, I Do. It is sooooo refreshing to have a hero who is not your typical cold, arrogant, mean and jerk kind of guy with daddy issues chaebol. Yes, he grew up with only one parent, but he loves his dad and his dad loves him as much. I love that so far, he has not been mean to Ji An (can’t say the same about her, but maybe it’s because that is where her character has the much growth to experience) and that he is always protective of her. He does the cutest and most adorable things, making her do what is good for her without coming across as a jerk or bossy. He cooks, cleans and he is thoughtful. And now, with the opportunity offered to him in episode 10, we do know that he has the potential and the skills to be a great shoe designer, so he can be a good provider one day and not just live off of his woman, whoever she might be. He is definitely husband material in my book.
My only small gripe with IDID is that we don’t really see Ji An fall in love with PTK. It is very slow (her process) and we don’t really get the sense that she is strongly attracted/falling for PTK. She doesn’t have to act on it all the time, but I would like to see her more conflicted (feeling wise) about PTK. Let’s see how the next 6 episodes are handled… I am also liking the fact that so far, she is still holding on to her desire to be a single mom. Wonder what will make her change her mind…

I also loved Yoon’s reaction to Me Ahri in episode 10 in AGD. He finally stood up to her and talked some sense into her. I wanted to root for them but Me Ahri’s tantrums were really making it hard for me to do so. I hope she grows up, starts behaving like an adult (and not a whining child) before any changes happen between her and Yoon. Yoon continues to be my favorite character in AGD, closely followed by Jun Rok (Sp?) who I appreciate because he is just who he is. I do hope he will end up being happy with his wife and that he will give her what she wants. He is having a really good life, he should “earn/fight” to deserve it.

Finally saw episode 5 (of AGD)and I keep laughing at Yoon being a fanboy, he is soooo adorkable, how can you not love him? and he is not bad looking either :-) . I really love the bromance between the F44 and how they are there (most of the time) for each other. I have also been listening to “My Heartache” and “High High” (AGD OSTs) all week, I love these songs.

I have a question for you guys: what is your favorite recurring scene in Kdramas? I have many romantic/tender recurring scenes, but my all time favorite is the one where the man lays his head on the the woman’s thighs (and sometimes folds himself in a fetal position). I know it happens quite often, but I remember it for now in MNIKSS, Lovers in Paris (loved that scene here, it was beautifully shot and acted), TK2Hs by JA and his brother in episode 7 and Spy Myungwol (sp?). I always love it when they show that. To me, it is a way for the guy to show his vulnerable side and be comforted at the same time. It is such a tender scene that shows that some sort of intimacy is being built up.

Sorry everyone, I meant to warn you that I might have some ***Mild Spoilers*** in my long post, but then I forgot to mention that at the beginning of the post. I tried my best to not give too much away. I hope it is OK with with everyone :-)

        • 3.3.1.1 oftheshore

          Ivoire,
Agree with you on Tae Kang – he’s such a great character. Re: Ji An not falling in love with him yet – have you seen the last two episodes? *Spoilers, I guess?* What do you make of her sketches? I think she’s just trying to hold on to her independence, and she really is in denial.

          • 3.3.1.1.1 alua

I get what Ivoire means though. The sketches sort of come as a surprise – we don’t really see what leads her to make those sketches – hints of her feelings that prepare us for this – but truth be told, I think Ji-An doesn’t yet know either. I interpreted the sketches as her expressing feelings she is still unconscious of, she is just very slowly realising that she feels comfortable when with TK (which is why that’s the ‘most relaxing moment’ that pops into her mind in the mothers-to-be session). Same with !SPOILER! the kiss in ep 10 – she just feels comfortable in that moment to let it happen, BUT it doesn’t yet translate into “I like him”, maybe not even into “I might like him”. I think we’ll be starting to see her inner conflicts about the fact that she is falling in love with TK in upcoming episodes – particularly with the twist now that TK might go off to the US.

Given that TK still doesn’t know that it is his baby, the twist actually paves the way for quite a bit of inner conflict in Ji-An. It’s her opportunity to easily cut ties with him (forever) but with the feelings she is developing for him, it is bound to throw her into turmoil. Meanwhile, for TK it’s much more straightforward – he could just go, as he said when he took her home and offered to call the ‘father’ to be with her (i.e. the person he assumes to be the father), he is not always going to be able to be around.

Although I have to say I find it totally and utterly lame of Ji-An that she has not told TK that it is his baby. Whether she ends up with him or not, it is his baby as much as it is hers.

          • 3.3.1.1.2 Ivoire

Good morning (in my time zone) Oftheshore,

****Mild SPOILERS AHEAD ABOUT I DO I DO*****

Tae Kang is a GREAT character (and a winning one) in my book. You know, I gripe about Ji An but I understand her as well: TK is younger, and he doesn’t come from a good pedigree, family wise. Heck, his dad did/sold knock off shoes, nothing to brag about, really. How does she bring someone like that to her parents (especially to her dad)? TK doesn’t look that good on paper, but in real life (in the drama), he is the total opposite. He is dedicated, devoted, he ADORES her (who in their right mind wouldn’t want that, seriously?), he cooks, cleans, is thoughtful and loves his dad, so you know he respects the elders (big in African cultures as well). And he is intelligent and hard working! If well trained and educated, he will be very successful. He also looks like he will be a wonderful dad and he believes in family, it is very important to him (which means, he will sacrifice for them if he has too).
Do you remember his line to his dad about him possibly marrying someone pregnant with someone’s else child? How many men (in Kdramas) would do that?

So, I totally understand Ji An’s hesitations and I don’t downplay them, considering the SK culture and norms as I understand them so far. I just hope that she falls hard for him, because I feel that she has to earn his love (i.e. love him as much in return) because he might have a wonderful dad, but he also looks lonely to me. He could use a wonderful and supportive mate who wholeheartedly believes in him and fights for him a la Hang Ah (sp?) in The King 2 Hearts.

I LOVE how KT is such a puppy when it comes to Ji An. He said: “I just want the Director to be happy” and he means it, bless his heart. That woman is blessed to have a man so in love with her (she doesn’t even have friends except for one), so it’s time she starts waking up and smelling the coffee (or roses, which is better).

Yeah, I agree with you: the sketches show that she is starting to warm up to him, but she still has a long way to go. He has done way more (in subtle and not so subtle ways) for her than she for him, wouldn’t you agree?
On a side note, I think the doctor looks dreamy. I love his face, and his (beautiful) hands. He actually trims his nails. :-)

          • 3.3.1.1.3 alua

“so it’s time she starts waking up and smelling the coffee (or roses, which is better).”

How about Lebanese coffee with rosewater :-) :-) :-)

          • 3.3.1.1.4 Ivoire

            @ Alua,

****SPOILERS ABOUT I DO I DO****

Thank you for your response! I agree with what you have said. I do think that Ji An hasn’t said anything to KT because originally she didn’t want him in her life, but that will change with her burgeoning feelings. I get the feeling that she will go the Noble Idiot route and not tell him about the pregnancy once she learns of the opportunity mentioned in ep. 10. He might find out he is the dad by accident, not because she told him (my opinion, I could be wrong).
I also just realized that she might be scared/afraid and that is understandable and might explain why she is not where he is at emotionally. I think KT WANTS a love life and marriage and babies and so he is very open to it if and when it will come his way. He will embrace it, which is why his reaction to the pregnancy is very different from that of Ji An. The other thing is that he appreciates that his dad sacrificed for him and kept him instead of leaving him with his grandmother, for instance. So he learned that sense of responsibility from his dad and he believes in it.

Ji An on the other end, had a totally different life plan (be successful in the shoes world) and the pregnancy is changing everything. I actually thought that it was a huge deal that she turned down the offer to become president of the company (a once in a lifetime opportunity). It would not be like her to do so and that showed that she is changing (slowly) as well.
Ji An has a lot to be afraid of: fear of the unknown (her future), fear of her parents’ reaction when they find out who the baby’s daddy is, fear of her future professionally, fear that KT would be a compatible partner (I thought it was interesting that KT listed all the reasons why the doctor was a good candidate and that he believed he actually was a great candidate). There are many unknowns for Ji An and she might be overwhelmed.

I am also realizing that they take the time to show her conflicts, growth and changes instead of rushing through them, which in my book is a good thing. They are (the writers) letting the characters breathe and it gives us time to process what is going on at the pace the characters are processing it as well.

          • 3.3.1.1.5 Ivoire

            @ Alua,

“so it’s time she starts waking up and smelling the coffee (or roses, which is better).”

How about Lebanese coffee with rosewater :-) :-) :-)

Ha,ha, ha… Is there such a thing? Would it taste good? If there is such a thing, why not :-) , :-) , :-)

          • 3.3.1.1.6 Yumi

The sketches were a big surprise, but clarified something that confused me as I watched the previous episode.

When TK and JA were sitting together barefooted under the tree, i couldn’t understand why JA’s feet kept falling towards TK’s feet. The movement didn’t seem to make sense as a result of gravity. It was only when I saw the sketches that I realized that JA was deliberately moving her feet to be in contact with TK. She wanted to touch him and establish some connections.

Recognizing that JA had moved her feet to be in proximity of TK, I am now curious if she has also arranged her head that they were sleeping head to head.

Now perhaps there will be sketches that explain where the airbuds went.

TK fell asleep wearing them and when they awoke the airbuds had vanished.

          • 3.3.1.1.7 Ivoire

@ Yumi, good and interesting observations. I will come back and comment on them later :-) So please stay tuned…

          • 3.3.1.1.8 Ivoire

@ Yumi Hi, no JA did not arrange for their heads to touch each other. It happened on its own.

      • 3.4.1 Ivoire

        Mysti!!!!! *Waves*

How are you? I am good and I don’t have much to report here. Ah, I did go to a benefit concert 2 weeks ago and it was great. Bruno Mars was there, Jennifer Hudson etc… My friend’s company has this concert every year with different artists (and it is free) and so I went with her. There was a lot of food and a LOT of people (they rented a stadium [for baseball] in San Francisco) and a LOT of children (and families) but it was fun!!!!

You must be looking forward to your time with Raine and Alua. I am sure you guys will have a great time :-) . Isn’t it neat the kind of connections we can make on Dramabeans? (all because of our love of Kdramas :-) ).

        • 3.4.1.1 Mystisith

I love Bruno Mars music! I’m happy to hear you’re having fun. And in response for your comment below, Happy Birthday even if it’s late. :)

Thank you for your birthday wishes :-) !!! Bruno Mars is great to see on stage. He has so much energy and he is a great dancer (his crew is as well). Yeah, that concert was a lot of fun and the food was really good (there was ethnic and American food + drinks and ice cream :-) ).

      • 3.5.2 Hillary

        Happy Birthday, Ivoire.

        • 3.5.2.1 Ivoire

          Hi Hillary *Waves*

I have been thinking about you. Are you all packed yet? Ready for the big move? Thank you for the Birthday wishes :-) I missed you on the last OTs, but figured you must be extremely busy. Hope you will have a great weekend!

          • 3.5.2.1.1 Hillary

@Ivoire: Of course I am not packed… They were taking the last pound of flesh at work… LOL. I have had to do 1-2 overnighters at work each week for the last 6 weeks (so tired). Planning to pack this weekend … no, make that, have to pack this weekend as I am leaving Chicago for Miami on Thursday, and then traveling to Trinidad from Miami on the Friday. Unfortunately, I still have some shopping to do.

Situation got really complicated as my 73-year old uncle who lives with me suffered a mild stroke and is in hospital. My cousin is taking care of him as he cannot travel. Hoping that he doesn’t take a turn for the worse before I can get him out of the country.

Finally found time to post on OT this week. Missed you guys.

          • 3.5.2.1.2 Ivoire

            Hi Hillary,

Wow!!! Busy (or maybe busier) weekend for you huh? Considering how hard (and long) you have had to work for the last 6 weeks, I hope that you will have the opportunity to rest some once you get back home (to Trinidad). Good luck with the packing, I know how overwhelming that can be.
You are also traveling this coming week, phew… I feel for you :-) .
So sorry to read that your 73 year old uncle suffered a mild stroke and is in the hospital. I hope that he will get better very soon. When were you planning on taking him out of the country? Was he supposed to leave with you on Thursday?
I am glad you could make it to OT, you have been missed. I hope everything will go well between this weekend and your arrival in Trinidad, I know you have a lot on your plate.

    Hello everyone!

Have you ever had “late fangirl bloomer” friends? Y’know, those people who take years before picking up a really good kdrama? Then pester you a year later when you don’t even remember who said what, and how many shower scenes are coming up in the next episode.

Someone I know just finished Oh My Lady (2010) and is squeeing over Si Won and asking all sorts of things like ratings, how is Chae Rim now, etc. And I’m like:

“Girl, Big? Gaksital? Evil smirky Shunji? Playery-playing Do Jin?! Any of those ring a bell? Yeah yeah, Si Won’s kid is cute but watch them new dramas so I can have someone to squee with, goldarnit!”

Of course we want them to be kdrama addicts too, but if she pesters me about how great City Hunter is in 2013, I’m going to tree-branch her.

(Adding smilies so you beanuts don’t write me off as a real murderer) :D :D :D

    • 4.1 ahjummabunny

awww so cute!!! I was recently like that with secret garden. my dramabeans chingus were nice enough to humour my mild squeeing. I squeed mildly and that is final!

      • 4.1.1 mary

        Haha and oops.

Looks like this is the wrong place to rant about late-fanbloomers. Because this is where we actually share and recommend dramas for each other. XD

        • 4.1.1.1 Mashimomo

“Of course we want them to be kdrama addicts too, but if she pesters me about how great City Hunter is in 2013, I’m going to tree-branch her. (Adding smilies so you beanuts don’t write me off as a real murderer)”

Lol thanks for the disclaimer! I’m fairly new to the Kdrama scene too, but that’s why I’m soo happy that this site exists so I can spazz tO no end and everyone else will appreciate and completely understand what I’m going thru! Coz IRL people be looking at me crazy if I even *try* to unleash the fangirl in me. Like I don’t know who your stylist is Lee Min Ho, but I can totally overlook the pink tight pants and leopard pajamas if I just focus on your pretty face. And I’m absolutely positively in LOVE with Eun Chan+Han Gyul forevah.
But yeah, dbeaners have never failed me in what to watch especially the new dramas. I’m really enjoying QIHM and TK2H is my first drama that i actually watch in real time and got so hooked on this year. You guys especially in OT are very nice and put a lot of thought in what you post without being *too* overboard with the dang irking (or fanboying too for the guys) don’t hit me with the tree branch please, I still have a long way to go in watching older dramas :D

          • 4.1.1.1.1 Mashimomo

*dang irking = fangirling. Damn you autocorrect!

    • 4.2 aoiaheen

      “I’m going to tree-branch her”

It’s amazing how many new words we coin up just by watching kdramas :)

And only in a kdrama forum would someone actually get it.

      • 4.2.1 Mystisith

I would like to catch someone totally unaware of the existence of KDramaland and throw him/her in the arena (OT or somewhere else). Just to see the ??? in his eyes.

      • 4.2.2 Ivoire

I am sorry, I love and watch Kdramas, but I didn’t get it: what is “tree-branching someone?” Thanks!

        • 4.2.2.1 mary

Hitting your friend with a tree branch over the head. It happened in one of the recently concluded dramas. :)

(trying to be non-spoilery here hehe)

          • 4.2.2.1.1 Ivoire

Hi Mary, and thank you for the explanation. I guess I haven’t watched that drama yet and hopefully I will find out soon where that happens. Are you sure you don’t want to give me a clue (as to what drama this happens in)? :-)

the tree-branching happen in a recently wrapped drama with Uhm Tae Woong in it. Enough clue yet? =)

oh by the way, Happy Birthday Ivoire!

          • 4.2.2.1.4 Ivoire

@ Mary, Thank you for the hint. I have visited your site by the way and found it to be witty (your writing) and funny. Thank you for putting the drama laws in one place for us. It is a reminder of why we watch Kdramas (one of the many reasons at least :-) ). I hope your weekend is going well.

@ Jabberwocky, I am still fairly new to Kdramas and the Korean entertainment industry, so having the last name of the actor helps. I think I know what you guys are referring to, this drama was aired on a station starting with K, right? :-) . If it is, I definitely did not see that drama and so I would definitely not have gotten the inside joke. Thank you guys.
Thank you also for the birthday wishes! :-)

    • 4.3 Laya

Re City Hunter, just tell her to watch it on Kapamilya Gold (since it already ran on primetime earlier) later this month so she won’t bother you next year and you won’t need tree branches? :D She’ll catch up, she’ll catch up, maybe she’s just getting up momentum. My own mom keeps pestering me about “Only You” and I’m all, “Mom, that was so long ago I didn’t even notice it.” Heck, I saw people quarreling over Dream High vs Dong Yi on Facebook last week.

  5. Stacey

Happy Friday!!!! Any know of a good site or travel agent to make a vacation trip to Korea?

    ThAnks!

    • 5.1 ahjummabunny

why don’t you check the korean travel site. They even have suggestions for self guided drama location tours.

      • 5.1.1 Mashimomo

Hi Stacey – me and my family went to Seoul for a 3 day layover ( very, very short days I might add) earlier this year and I agree with ahjummabunny. I consulted the Korean Travel website and got some great suggestions in terms of what to do. They even have a section for Kdrama fans, a list of popular dramas and the locations around Seoul where they filmed them. My greatest regret was not going to the Coffee Prince store since it was rainy most of the time we were there, plus we have my toddler with us so we were limited in mobility in some ways. Also, I find Tripadvisor to be super helpful in recommending where to stay and how to go around Seoul. We ended up in the Myeongdong district which was fantabulous in every way. Lots of indoor and outdoor shopping, eating and convenient to the subway and airport bus. Good luck! I told husband we are going to be back next time, I need another week to fully appreciate the city! :D

      • 5.1.2 lovepoodles

Thanks ahjummmabunny and Mashimomo for sharing your travel tips. Like Stacey, because of my love of kdramas my mind is set on visiting Korea. Tentatively I’m planning to spend my vacation in Korea and Japan next year. I probably will use 16-18 of my pto for the trip. I checked the korean travel site you suggested Ahjummmabunny, it definitely offers great suggestions on tour choices. Mashimomo, I will surely check lodging accommodations around the Myeongdong district; it sounds like the best location for me to stay. I’m looking at a 10 day in Japan and the remaining 6-8 days in Korea. Really, really love OT, I get so much from this blog, love of kdramas and the essence of a community. Again thanks a bundle!

  6. Shukmeister

    Happy Friday OT, friends!

So we are at the half-way point in the year, and I thought about DB’s “stickiness scale” that she created last year. You know, where you judge a drama on how the story sticks with you, even after the series is completed and you’ve started watching something else. I thought it might be fun (or at least interesting) to look at those shows that ended in 2012, and see if any of them have the ability to stay in your mind and pop out at odd moments, or that you watch over again or buy on DVD.

The list below is the best I could come up with, along with a short acronym (so there is consistancy in the responses). If I’ve forgotten one, please feel free to add. The only thing: It can’t be currently in production and it had to end in 2012.

A general reminder of the scale (1 to 10):

01 – Couldn’t watch it to the end, even through the first showing.

05 – Happy to have watched it, but ready to move on to the next in line.

10 – Watching over and over again still, or waking up in the middle of the night, wondering how the characters are doing.

Of course, this isn’t scientific. Heck, its probably not even interesting. Oh, and it doesn’t matter if it was good or bad, only that it won’t go away. ;-)

    *********

    A list of the shows:

    - A Thousand Kisses (ADK)
    - Brain
    - Can Love Become Money (CLBM)
    - Dream High 2 (DH2)
    - Dummy Mommy (DM)
    - Equator Man (EQM)
    - Feast Of The Gods (FOG)
    - Hero – The OCN production

Hi Shuk! This is brilliant! I wanted to comment something else but then I realized I’ve only seen OB and QIHM so far! hahaha! Which I both rate a 10. But I’ve seen more K-movies this year.

Still watching the others but I’ve 01′d Fashion King.

      • 6.1.1 Shukmeister

Ohh, snap, I forgot FK, which perhaps shows where it is on the scale (lol). Thanks for bringing that one up!

If I get enough responses, I might do a compilation by, say, Sunday or so just to gauge the overall reaction.

Sometimes the curiosity gets the better of me!

    • 6.2 mary

      3 – Dream High 2 (DH2)
      7 – Equator Man (EQM)
      10 – King 2 Hearts (K2H)
      1 – Love Rain (LR)
      5 – Ojakgyo Brothers (OB)
5 – Moon Embracing the Sun (MES)
      100 – Queen In Hyun’s Man (QIHM) (I’m a cheater. So sue me. :P )
      8 – Rooftop Prince (RTP)
8 – Shut Up Flower Boy Band (SUFBB)
      5 – What’s Up
      5 – Wild Romance (WR)

Cool idea! But as much as everyone wants to forget it [snerk], throw BVS into that melee. :P

    • 6.4 Mystisith

      ATK: 10 (with a -). CLBM: +++10 (love affair). FOG: 8. QIHM: 8. What’s up?: 9.
Brain, DH2, Hero, K2H, OB, PP, RTP, SUFBB and WR: Seen but didn’t stick in the end: 4.5?

      • 6.4.1 alua

        10 for ATK???

Although I might find myself “waking up in the middle of the night, wondering how the characters are doing” it’s only because of the nightmares ATK is giving me whenever it pops back into my mind.

        • 6.4.1.1 Mystisith

That’s why I added the minus sign. :) That drama was a black hole. It didn’t stick, it annihilated me.

    • 6.5 KDrama Fan

SM, I thought this was a good idea when I saw it.

However, I then scanned the list and could only really remember OB and QIHM as being all that enjoyable with the latter being way more consistent.

      A 5 for OB, a 7 for QIHM?

My reason for the above is I’m enjoying living in the moment with present dramas A Gentleman’s Dignity and as of just today I Do, I Do. Everything-else in the past year has just faded away. (Though I should add I couldn’t even get into a rerun of Secret Garden on the telly either this week and I was all over it when it aired. ..)

      • 6.5.1 Shukmeister

SeGa is my number one #10.
I pull it out and watch certain episodes over and over again.

I agree, there were some good ones this year, but not necessarily shows that I want to rewatch. That’s why I thought this was a good time to look back and see.

AGD is definitely up there on the stickyness level, as I have gone back and rewatched every episode several times as the story has progressed. We just have to wait until the end of the year to see how glue-y it is. :-)

          Hi all! Happy OT! ^^

I’ve got to agreed with you. There are certain dramas that sticks and stay with you/think about it constantly.
SG, YB, BestLOVE, and City Hall are still the ones that sticks out the most for me. There are scenes that I just love and will always remember no matter what. I go back and rewatch these dramas more then a few times already.

Even if a drama is good and I don’t rewatch it, I guess it’s not that great. :P ONly awsome the first watch, but doesn’t stick. Some of those are City Hunter, Brian, and METS. I wonder if these new batches of dramas will stick out too. ^^

        • 6.5.1.2 KDrama Fan

          Hi SM.

I think the rewatch thing depends on the drama and where you’re at personally.

At the moment I will watch telly reruns of Sons of Sol Pharmacy and Treasure Hunter.

I’ve got 2 dramas (-AGD and IDID) where I’ve started doing the Pre-watch ie. watching unsubbed versions and then subbed versions before even reading the recaps.

BTW I DO think this midyear ‘stocktake’ is a good idea. In fact I was just wondering this week what I’d seen and enjoyed earlier this year (and couldn’t recall.)

          • 6.5.1.2.1 Shukmeister

            Thanks!

I know different people have different ideas on what constitutes ‘sticky’ but overall I find our DB community to be fairly consistant in their overall response to a production. That’s why I thought this would be fun to reflect on.

    • 6.7 Eternal

      I’ve only watched a handful sadly :(

      - Dream High 2 (DH2) – 1
      - Equator Man (EQM) – 5 (the ending killed it for me, sadly)
      - Padam Padam (PP) – 8
      - Moon Embracing the Sun (MES) – 4 (would’ve given it a 1, had it not been for the childhood portion, which til now was infinitely better than the adult portion, in which everyone played sitting duck)
      - Rooftop Prince (RTP) – 4
      - Shut Up Flower Boy Band (SUFBB) – 9 (the bromance gets me every time)
      - What’s Up – 9 (loved most of the characters; made me a fan of Im Joo-hwan)

    • 6.8 Tottoro

      10 – Brain

3 (didn’t finish toooooo slow-not my style) Equator Man (EQM)

6 (feverishly watched the show each week, but rarely wanted to rewatch -except for kissing scenes with Mr. Gorgeous) Feast Of The Gods (FOG)

      10/5 (for first 18.5 episodes, but didn’t finish)- King 2 Hearts (K2H)

      10 – Ojakgyo Brothers (OB)

      8 – Padam Padam (PP)

negative 6 (I want my hours back) – Moon Embracing the Sun (MES)

      100 – Queen In Hyun’s Man (QIHM)

      5 – Rooftop Prince (RTP)

Although I loved CLBM, I will rate it when I complete it with subs. I watched them all raw and still enjoyed it.

    • 6.10 ahjummabunny

      I have watched at least 10 2012 k-dramas they’re all 5.

    • 6.11 1061-kun

      Queen In Hyun’s Man – 10
      History of Salaryman – 9
      Rooftop Prince – 7
      Wild Romance – 5
Shut Up Flower Boy Band – 3

Everybody’s forgetting History of Salaryman. It is easily the funniest show of the year. If you don’t agree, you can #@$% &#!@ %$$##.

      • 6.11.1 bbstl

OMG, I just laughed so hard at that! Yeo Chi lives on for me as well. HOTS is fantastically sticky.

On the other hand, I can’t even remember what happened at the end of Rooftop Prince :-o

    • 6.12 Llamaesque

Well, isn’t this a fun game! I’ve only watched a few, but here goes:

      - King 2 Hearts (K2H)—5
      - Padam Padam (PP)—10
      - Moon Embracing the Sun (MES)—2
      - Queen In Hyun’s Man (QIHM)—8
      - Rooftop Prince (RTP)—5
      - Shut Up Flower Boy Band (SUFBB)—10
      - What’s Up—8

      I really am a lover or a hater, aren’t I?

    • 6.13 Marika

Oooh, I want to play as well. Sadly, I’ve only watched three of these so far, as I’m also catching up on old dramas. ;)

King 2 Hearts – 10 (I will never forget this show. It won’t leave my mind O_O)

Rooftop Prince – Hmmm…I’m thinking some where between 1 and 5. Maybe a 4. I liked parts of it (mostly the parts that took place in the past), but overall it didn’t do much for me, though I loved the humor in the earlier episodes.

Queen In Hyun’s Man – 10, definitely a 10. I just finished this drama the other day, and I feel like it’s ruined me for all other dramas. It feels difficult to watch anything else now, and the main couple has become my otp. <3

    • 6.14 momogi

      05 – Brain
03 – Dream High 2 (truth betold, I watched it through the end out of curiosity)

08 – Ojakgyo Brothers (OB), My FAV family drama!

09 – Shut Up Flower Boy Band (SUFBB)

      - A Thousand Kisses (ADK) –Skipped it.

      - Brain –Skipped it.

      - Can Love Become Money (CLBM) –*rolls eyes* Skipped it.

      - Dream High 2 (DH2) –1 (Barely got to the end.)

      - Dummy Mommy (DM)–Skipped it.

      - Equator Man (EQM)– Definitely skip it. I’m allergic to both makjang and the f-ed up Adopted persons stories. Adoptism much?

      - Feast Of The Gods (FOG)- Skipped it.

      - Hero – The OCN production- Skipped it.

      - Hooray For Love (H4L)- Skipped it.

      - King 2 Hearts (K2H)- 6? 6 or 7? I’d recommend it, but not rewatch it.

      - Live In Style (LIS)- Skipped.

      - Love Rain (LR)- Skipped. Winter Sonata made me want to hurl. And though pretty, the stories make me want to kill something. See makjang allergy.

      - Ojakgyo Brothers (OB) – Skipped.

      - Padam Padam (PP) – Skipped.

      - Moon Embracing the Sun (MES)- Like the book better. Disappointed how they messed up Mudang–I thought that would be done better, instead it spread more prejudice… I think. So I’d give it a solid 6to maybe 6.5

      - Queen In Hyun’s Man (QIHM) – I tried to get through the first episode twice and couldn’t engage with it. The air of makjang was choking me.

      - Rooftop Prince (RTP)- Breezy fun. Solid 5.5

      - Shut Up Flower Boy Band (SUFBB)- The camera work gave me headaches. Skipped.

      - What’s Up- Makjang allergy. Tried two times to get in and couldn’t.

      - Wild Romance (WR)- I liked it, but wouldn’t watch it again. 8

Overall, a weak showing for K-dramas this year. I really like Big, but it’s not quite heart-arresting. I want a drama like that for this year. K-drama god should stop playing Go-Stop and losing actors to the other drama Gods. You can see J-drama God is living the high life by exporting previous drama plots to K-drama God and TW-Drama God and still nailing it with new ones. I want to hit the K-drama God with a broom and tell him he’s losing it by scattering out so much. He should send down some muses to the writers, too. (Also tell him to stop it with the messed up Adopted persons. Just because people were adopted does not mean they were messed up. Concentrate on making single mothers look better instead so the government will reform and actually help single mothers out. AND don’t make it makjang. *shakes fist*)

      7-MES,RTP

      3-DH2,ADK

    • 6.18 bd

MES – 4 (was only good for the “kiddie” eps do to the charming performances; better than the adults).

RTP – 3 (only good thing was the Joseon Power Rangers – other than that, the typical K-drama w/ cliche-filled, nonsensical plotlines; stereotypical characters and mundane dialogue – and the relationship btwn the 2 leads was so-so which is the most impt. part to a rom-com).

    • 6.19 skelly

I have only watched a few shows:

1 – A Thousand Kisses (ADK) or make that a negative 1000 – words cannot describe how much I hated this show, almost to the point of not watching QIHM.
1 – Love Rain (LR) I really hate shows where people can’t be together because they are “related”
100 – Queen In Hyun’s Man (QIHM) No couple has chemistry like this couple has chemistry. Ever.
5 – Rooftop Prince (RTP) Stopped watching because of the stupid heroine.
9 – Shut Up Flower Boy Band (SUFBB)

Each time I think I caught them all, you guys find more! That’s okay, it just shows that every drama is being watched by someone somewhere! So, to update my ever-growning list:

Thanks, Cherkell! I’ve added your data to my matrix. It’s really coming out in an interesting fashion!

Some quick stats so far: Out of the responses, the most watched shows are:
        QIHM (81.5%)
        RTP (77.8%)
        K2H and SUFBB (59.3% each)

So two rom-coms and two angsty-er series.

Yes Shukie, I did and I responded and I will come back for more.
I only fully saw two dramas this year (dismal, I know) which is why I didn’t participate in the polling :-( I might, later… I think I read more blogs and I write more and I watch episodes here and there (and I take breaks between dramas). I can’t watch too many dramas at one time, I have to watch a little bit at the time, so I can process what I am watching.

        WE’RE NUMBER 10!! WE’RE NUMBER 10!! :P

You should see some of the Yahoo Japan and Innolife news articles about BVS and WBDS. You’d think it was the second coming of ‘Winter Sonata’ or something the way it’s being slurped up by the fangirls over there. They have good taste, ne? ;)

        • 6.27.1.1 Shukmeister

Well, I watched WinSon several times in my early K-Dramawatch career, and I still love the soundtrack, even though BGM was choppy at best (and the sound boom kept showing up in the episodes too). Now, with more than 50 dramas under my belt, I can see how overly sentimental and schmaltzy it was. It still has a warm place in my heart, bu the sticky is gone, and I’ve gone on to spazz over other scarves.

Maybe next time, and with blessing from the DB goddesses, I’ll start the topic of the stickiest KDramas of all time. That might generate some interesting conversation, although I don’t know if you can quantify it like I did here.

  7. mary

Hi everyone! Just updating and inviting you (again) to read the new kdrama laws this week:

Sad Rich Family Act (rich people should have emotional scars, so they’ll be attracted to poor and plucky heroines)

Jang Geun Suk Jinx Act (all JGS dramas should have lower-than-expected ratings)

Weaksauce Thug Act (why it takes a single punch to take down a 300-pound thug, but 20 bullets to incapacitate the hero)

Acceptable Violence Act (a law on wrist-grabbing)

You can read them + older laws at:

I was watching iris last week. that show should be called lee byung hon is the star, don’t forget it. Yech. anyway he is shot in the side and walked for hours in the hot weather with nothing to stop the bleeding and was just fine! Very much like his work in all in.

      • 7.1.1 JoAnne

        Because he is a BOSS.

I’m watching it too. Up to Ep 6 now, lunchtimes at work. I can’t quite get a full ep in during lunch.

        • 7.1.1.1 ahjummabunny

me too episode 6! I don’t mind him being a boss but it’s sooo obvious it’s taking away from the show. For me anyway.

      • 7.1.2 Daine

Haha, LBH’s movies and dramas ALWAYS seem to be like the that. A Bittersweet Life and The Good,The Bad, The Weird in particular. I was like, um, he just got shot at point blank range with rapid fire about fifteen times and took a bullet to the head and minutes later….he’s still alive? And getting back up?? And proceeding to kill everyone else in the room like it’s nothing???

Oh, well, must be because it’s Lee!Byung!Hun!

How is Iris? I did a LBH movie marathon last week to prep for interviewing him at the Look East: Korean Film Festival in LA but didn’t have time to squeeze all 20 episodes of Iris in. Looks pretty interesting and I’m a big fan of his work now. He gave me a great interview and speaks English really well. Plus, he’s even more gorgeous in person.

Also, thanks to everyone who helped me out with question ideas last week! You guys are the best!

        • 7.1.2.1 JoAnne

I’m enjoying IRIS quite a lot but am still in the first half of the first half, LOL. What I enjoy is that we get a good mix of thriller/spy stuff with romance.

I’d never seen him in anything before that, but yeah, I have to say I’m a fan now. And even in IRIS his English was great. Completely unaccented.

I watched ‘I Saw the Devil’ with him starring last weekend. THAT was a disturbing (but good) movie. He is a good actor, I think. He’s able to portray a full range of emotions convincingly while CLEARLY being a bad ass action hero. So, you know…for comparison’s sake: this is no Jean-Claude Van Damme. This is Matt Damon in Bourne Identity. I’d say Tom Cruise, Mission Impossible…but Tom Cruise scares me and I want to snuggle with Lee! Byeong! Hun!

          • 7.1.2.1.1 ahjummabunny

I actually hate the romance because it makes the female lead such a lee byung hon sex slave. I mean just one kiss and all her years of hard work and professionalism out the window! sheesh! I’m telling you, I really like the guy, but he’s coming over too diva.

        • 7.1.2.2 mary

I’ve only ever seen him in Iris but from what you just said, I don’t want to meet Lee Byung Hoon in a zombie apocalypse.

(Iris is actually good :D my only gripe is he had more chemistry with Kim So Yeon)

          • 7.1.2.2.1 JoAnne

I do! He can SAVE my butt, and then fondle it ; )

          • 7.1.2.2.2 Jewels

@Joanne, thank you for making me LMAF!!!

        • 7.1.2.3 daniela

He may be the SECRET son of the CHUCK NORRIS :D

          • 7.1.2.3.1 JoAnne

Daniela, LOL – I was trying to come up with a CN joke and failed but yeah, like that :)

          • 7.1.2.3.2 mary

            Hahaha!

@joanne, you really like LBH huh? :)

          • 7.1.2.3.3 JoAnne

Well he’s not going to replace My Beloved, because that has nothing to do with anything except a completely nonsensical loyalty, but yeah. It’s the combination of muscles and really sweet/sad eyes. Plus he can act. Otherwise, I’d be raving more about So Ji Sub.

            Let the flame wars begin….

      • 7.1.3 mary

Have you seen A Man Called God?

Michael’s antics are even worse/more impossible than LBH’s. XD

        • 7.1.3.1 ahjummabunny

I watched the first episode but I didn’t continue because of the rom com creeping in. I do plan to watch it for my kim min jong bunny though!

          • 7.1.3.1.1 mary

Unniebunny, don’t worry there is, like, 1% rom-com in that series.

The leads had no chemistry so I guess the staff focused on the strong points, like the spy action stuff and the conflict of Vivian. She has an amazing storyline in that drama.

And I actually shipped Min Jong with Chun hyang there. Their story is much better.

    • 7.2 Celina

Thank you for these, they are cracking me up!

    • 7.3 Korazy Lady

Just got around to reading the Kdrama Laws – well done…and so true! Thanks, Mary

  8. Lang

Hello fellow Dramabeaners (is that a thing ) ,

It’s so hard not to watch BIG, I caved in a few days ago and watched 4 episodes. I think I’m going to have to practice more restraint.

I just can’t handle the waiting … I gotta forget about it for about 2 months, and marathon it in September.

Maybe I can occupy my mind with I Do, I Do. Although the creepy Doctor in that is getting on my nerves. They hardly know each other, and this man is all up in her business, and he’s taking stuff way to emotionally . HE NEVER EVEN WENT ON A REAL DATE WITH HER!!

It’s really nice to have Dramabeans around, because as a guy, most of my friends don’t watch drama, and always give me these weird looks when I tell them about it.

Canada Day on July 1, so I might just watch some old Drama.

Any recommendations ? I like romance comedy, and romance. Body Switching is my favourite, doesn’t have to be Kdrama, could be TDrama, Jdrama, or HKdrama, even mainland china is cool too…

    • 8.1 mary

If you’re into body switching, you’ve probably already watched Secret Garden. :/

How about cross-dressing dramas like Hana Kimi? Both the Taiwanese and Japanese versions will do.

“It’s really nice to have Dramabeans around, because as a guy, most of my friends don’t watch drama, and always give me these weird looks when I tell them about it. ”
      – yes, the beanut gallery is a godsend. :)

      • 8.1.1 Lang

I’ve actually watched both versions of Hana Kimi. Loved it!

Another body switching one I watched was Himitsu (mom goes into the body of the daughter), and it was pretty intense. Jdrama, btw, they made it very mature and serious, it did have some comedic moments, but the way they handle the body switch and the ramifications of it was very smart.

        I highly recommend.

        • 8.1.1.1 John

          Himitsu looks good.

    • 8.2 Shukmeister

Lang! Welcome to DB OT. While you are in the minority here, you’ll find you are not alone in your enjoyment of asian drama.

    • 8.3 oftheshore

      Hey Lang,
If you want funny, I’d recommend Hotaru no Hikari 1&2 (JDrama) – some scenes still have me laughing out loud. Funny and deep (-ish?) – Love Shuffle (also a JDrama). It’s not too serious or depressing, but it’s clever…and even intense at times! I think I recommended it to someone the other week.

      • 8.3.1 skelly

        Yaaay Panda!!

        • 8.3.1.1 oftheshore

          Ja-panda!

      • 8.3.2 Maya

Agree! I’d recommend Hotaru as well… It’s light, funny, but somehow inspiring too. Buchoo! :D

    • 8.4 1lostbear

I don’t usually comment on open threads, but just had to give my cents on this.

First of all, I think it’s awesome that guys aren’t ashamed to like k-dramas. Better than a load of other crap that’s on TV nowadays.

Second, I recommend “Who Are You?” if you haven’t watched it. It’s not purely body-switch, but it’s about a father who died and inhabits a man’s body to fulfill his daughter’s last wishes. Lots of hijinks. Really funny, but tones down and becomes deep at the end as well. I think it’s really underrated for sure. You can also check the ratings list here to see what javabeans has to say about it.

      Cheers.

      • 8.4.1 jYmY

Second this! Very well executed, too.
The supporting cast is very strong.
It does get very weepy, though. You have been warned.

      • 8.4.2 skelly

LOVED this show – it did take me about three tries to get over the hump of the first episode, though – Go Ara’s character was a little hard to take at first.

    • 8.5 Daine

I love body-switching too…so many hijinks! Also trying to resist the urge to watch Big until it’s complete but I’ll probably cave. I’ve heard good things about TVN’s I Love Lee Tae-ri, which is kind of in the same vein. It’s about a 14-year-old boy who suddenly grows into a 25 year-old man and starts a romance with an older woman.

Obviously Secret Garden. Who are You? is really funny and touching as well(a dead father with unfinished business periodically takes over the body of a cold-hearted executive).

    • 8.6 halaure

Ohmygod, yes! Why in the world is the OB/GYN doctor becoming so obnoxious and squicky? He was swoon worthy in the beginning of the series, but once you’ve broken up with your almost-fiance, lines have to be drawn. And inviting Ji-an to come to your professional workplace is taking it too far. If she’d ended up at his hospital by herself, fine, but that’s really pushing it.

    • 8.7 alua

I agree with you on the doctor in I Do, I Do. He is getting worse with every episode. He might mean well, but, boy he sure doesn’t know what personal boundaries are! He acts like he has rights towards Ji-Ah (leaving a voice message ‘I’m coming to your house now’ NOT even asking if it’s convenient?).

Or that whole thing when she came home after eating with TK and he told her off for returning so late and saying that he was about to call the police?!? The police? Is Ji-Ah supposed to report to him what she’s doing?

I hate the fact that she’s keeping him as her doctor – and I totally don’t buy that a) there are no other doctors in a city as big as Seoul and b) that all other doctors won’t treat her. He doesn’t act completely professional when he’s being the doctor, and, plus, it’s just plain creepy to be treated by a personal acquaintance who is in (unrequited) love with you. No no no.

When I look at the doctor I see him acting in a very patronising and patriarchal way, as if he owned Ji-Ah. This, I suppose, reflects the society they live in (the relationship of Ji-Ah’s parents is exactly like that), although curiously enough there is one point where he currently isn’t imposing on her – marriage. I’m pointing that out because that’s the one point where we see that TK actually has quite traditional and patriarchal values and despite the fact that I don’t like his ‘You must get married if pregnant’ for the rest TK’s actions are the very opposite of the doctor’s.

*end rant on IDID doctor* (although I could start another rant on Ji-Ah’s friend as well…)

Oh, very nice to see a guy here! I always think it’s a pity there are so few (Ricky and John only as far as I know), like as if you were scared of us girls here!

      • 8.7.1 Lang

        You are so right!

The doctor really pisses me off, and I think you hit the nail on the wall. He thinks in his mind that he has something “relationship” with Ji-Ah.

But in reality he doesn’t, and that’s what irks me too. You are right he doesn’t seem to know any personal boundaries, and he’s just acting like a needy guy. Because when you think about it, sure he says he cares about Ji-Ah, but I think deep down he’s doing this stuff because he believes that he’s fallen for her. And that is what’s really creepy.

One sided love based on nothing….

Everytime I see him on screen, I just want to yell, DUDE You ARE MAKING IT WORSE, everything you’re doing is pushing her away…. What happened to Mr. Cool in the first episodes!

P.S. Glad to know there are other guy’s who love kdrama.

        • 8.7.1.1 Korazy Lady

Glad to know there are other 50 somethings who love dramas!

          • 8.7.1.1.1 Ivoire

@Korazy Lady, Yes to what you said :-) !

      • 8.7.2 Ivoire

        Hi Alua,

The way I see it, KT is insisting on Ji An getting married because (mostly) he doesn’t want her to go through her pregnancy alone and raising the baby alone if she doesn’t have to. He said something along those lines himself.
I do see where he is coming from and it makes sense to me. It has helped when he was there, cooking, cleaning and getting her the food she craved. Even at work, his presence has helped. What if something happened to her while she is at home? Having someone there to quickly react would be very helpful and that person would help carry the emotional burden as well, in my humble opinion.
Cultures like SK also seem to place a huge importance on taking responsibility for one’s actions, so I think TK has a hard time understanding why JA doesn’t want to get married and why the doc doesn’t do it (we know he’s no the dad, but KT doesn’t). maybe he also speaks out of his own need and experience: maybe deep down, he wishes he had had both parents. Maybe, just maybe…

      • 8.7.3 Jewels

“I hate the fact that she’s keeping him as her doctor”

I don’t know about Korean OB/GYN, but in US, the OB/GYN looks and works at your HooHaa… Hmmmm…

    • 8.8 ricky trh

      Dude,
      Welcome to the club!

I’ve always said that we need more guys here.
Agree with about friends giving weird looks when I tell them about KDramas. Oh, well. It’s their loss.

      • 8.8.1 Ivoire

Hi Ricky, well said and agreed with all you said. Yeah, Lang, welcome!!!!

        • 8.8.1.1 ricky trh

          Happy birthday, Iv!

          • 8.8.1.1.1 Ivoire

            Thank you, Ricky!

  9. aoiaheen

Hello everyone. Hope you guys are doing well.

I have a question to the kdrama gurus out there. Does any one know the name of this drama: it was a sageuk. The heroine was a cook in the royal kitchen.

I know – its not a very descriptive synopsis but my collegue said he loved the drama but forgot the name and only gave me this description.

It very hard to google “sageuk heroine kitchen” and get a good answer. Though the top 2 search items were dramabeans posts. ha ha:) Why do i feel proud?

    • 9.1 cherkell

Wasn’t that “Jewel in the Palace”? The character starts out orphaned, is raised on the palace grounds, become a royal chef and then becomes the first woman physician in Joseon? Or am I hallucinating again? :)

      • 9.1.1 aoiaheen

oh yes! that must be it. My colleague didn’t tell me about the bit where she becomes a doctor. how can he forget that important piece of information? He kept talking about the food preparation procedures in the royal kitchen.

Thanks so much cherkell. I’m glad i got an answer to my very vague question. I was wondering about it a lot.

        • 9.1.1.1 ahjummabunny

everytime I see the restaurant in the mall called dae jang geum I hear goo doo shim’s voice saying umshik in immortal classic. I liked a lot of immortal classic.

    • 9.2 Mystisith

I really know nothing about sageuks but isn’t it the premise of Jewel in the Palace aka Dae Jang Geum (sorry for the mispelling)?

      • 9.2.1 aoiaheen

Yup. that was it. thanks Mystisith.

  10. 10 runawayflowerchild

    Hi everyone!!! Happy OT! :-)

  11. 11 Bashful82

I am so sad – Queen Insoo has finally ended and I can say (without a doubt) that it is the best sageuk I have seen in years.

Everything from the acting, cinematograpgy, costumes, music and direction (a few weeks wobbles).

Certainly the sageuk that all others will be compared to – I am sorry that the wider community has not had the chance to watch it due to lack of subs but if someone ever does get to them, you are in for a treat.

Check Mr X (or whatever he is calling himself now!) and his blog on reviews – he is raving about it.

    • 11.1 momogi

Does anybody recap it?? ’cause i’m interested in that drama but I couldn’t watch it now.

      • 11.1.1 Hannah25

I think Dark Smurf started but they only got to ep 3 and gave up. Which is a pity because I totally agree that it was a brilliant drama – so so much better than Queen Inhelyan Man, Princess’ Man or Tree With Deep Roots (I liked all 3 but there are not even anywhere the same level!).

        • 11.1.1.1 ahjummabunny

          kaman iso ba!
are you saying that tree with deep roots is ranked below this queen insoo show?????? how is that possible? wah where can I watch it? I think my sageuk korean has improved enough . . .

          • 11.1.1.1.1 Hannah25

Yeah am saying that hehe! You can watch it at the usual suspects but I used this one:

            http://www.dramastyle.com/search.php?search_word=queen+insoo

It’s interesting to do a comparison with the Princess Man in that quite a few of the characters from there appear in this one but obviously played by different actors and a slightly different take.

    • 11.2 Barbarella

If he’s raving about it sounds like I should avoid it like the plague, then. All that elitist snob ever talks about is artsy dramas that are mortally dull.

      • 11.2.1 Hannah25

LOL actually this drama is not mortally dull – I do disagree with a lot of what he says, particularly comments on things like Tree With Deep Roots but I do agree with him that it is a really good drama.

    • 11.3 Mistre

      Hi Bashful82,
Can you tell me where to find his blog? Thx

  12. 12 KDrama Fan

    Hey there.

Hope everyone’s had a dramatic week.

I’m in love with 2 dramas AGD and IDID at the moment.

Also enjoyed 2 movies-Glove and Spring Bears Love.

If you hadn’t guessed it already I’m a romantic:)

What did you watch/and/enjoy this week?

    • 12.1 oftheshore

I was re-reading JB’s Witch Yoo Hee and Boys Over Flowers recaps and watched IDID without subs, fast forwarding through Doctor’s scenes (seriously, he could be cut out from the drama completely, and it wouldn’t affect the plot too much).
      ***MAJOR SPOILER ALERT***
The kiss scene! The tiny shoes! JA realizing TK has talent! JA’s sketches! Oh my. I need my smelling salts.

      • 12.1.1 KDrama Fan

I also fast forwarded through the unsubbed versions of IDID this week. I think that’s how I fell in love with it. The subbed version though ‘different’ made it for me.

      • 12.1.2 Ivoire

*Smiles at Oftheshore’s comments* I am right there with you. Episode 10 of I Do I Do was good! I LOVED his reaction after the kiss, with her and when he was outside :-) .

    • 12.2 ahjummabunny

I watched go bong shil ahjumma ( the ladies have awful wigs that I hope are temporary), someday, god of war, the first episode of idid. I was watching you’ve fallen for me but at work I can only watch on mute and that’s just stupid. it’s a musical so I read the recaps instead. he he

      • 12.2.1 KDrama Fan

        Hi ajummabunny.

Wonder what the first 3 are about.

Watching a musical without the music means you must like it:) Are you watching in stealth-mode so you don’t get caught?

    • 12.3 mtoh

      Lol, watched the same movies…haha

      • 12.3.1 KDrama Fan

        Hi mtoh.

I went into the movies with no expectations and and enjoyed them.

Nice have everything wrapped up in 120 minutes or so and not to be invested unlike the current dramas I’m watching for which I have Expectations :)

  13. 13 Matilda

Happy OT everyone! I’m currently looking out for the good dramas to watch since most of the shows have aired till the halfway mark. So what’s worth it this time for the wed/thur shows? Havent heard much about a gentleman’s dignity… Will definitely try BIG soon.

    • 13.1 Mystisith

You haven’t heard about A Gentleman’s Dignity? Pulling up sleeves to correct the situation. The show started “slowly” but is soaring like a rocket now: The number of followers on viki grows everyday and soompi in on fire. Good ratings on SK too.

      • 13.1.1 mtoh

They had over 20% last weekend, drama starts to kick real hard, in the end Dr. Jin can’t fallow this.

    • 13.2 JoAnne

Yes, do jump on the F44 bandwagon!

      • 13.2.1 Matilda

I guess it’s time to start on a new drama (I just don’t know why I can’t watch anything aft QIHM & K2H)

        • 13.2.1.1 skelly

Same here. I am trying a lot of stuff, but nothing compares to QIHM for me. That show spoiled me, especially in terms of romance. Every time someone raves about an OTP’s “chemistry” I compare it QIHM and just shake my head; THAT, my friends, was what they mean by chemistry.

      • 13.2.2 Lainey

        Happy OT, Beanies.
This is my first time posting on OT but I can’t help jumping onto the AGD bandwagon. I unashamedly confess that I’m addicted. I’m even help translating each episode so I know what’s going on, asap!!!
Some people likened the craze to Sex and the City but of course with our F44. And just like the phenomenon where women were out hunting what Carrie Bradshaw wore and out drinking Cosmo, apparently whatever Jang Dong Gun wears or eats in the dramas sells like hot cakes, even if it’s vitamin!!!!

        • 13.2.2.1 Shukmeister

Welcome Lainy! Feel free to de-lurk and comment to your heart’s content. Why like AGD?

          Do Jin’s skinny jeans!
          Yoon’s fangirling.
          Do Jin’s smile!
          Jung Rok’s crooning ability.
          Do Jin’s double entendres!
Tae San’s Sir Walter Raleigh imitation.
          Do Jin’s chest!

          And the list goes on…

          • 13.2.2.1.1 Hillary

@Shuk: But I definitely get the idea that your favorite scenes starts with “Do Jin’s …” LOL.

          • 13.2.2.1.2 Lainey

Thanks Shukmeister for the welcome. Been wanting to be on OT for so long, but never know what to say until AGD comes along. lol and now where has it got me.. I’m commenting all over in this week’s OT.

          • 13.2.2.1.3 Shukmeister

@ Hil Gee, was it that obvious? LOL His lip movements fascinate me no end: pursed, half-smiling, surprised…

@ Lainey Now that you’ve entered the dark side, stick around! We have cookies.

          • 13.2.2.1.4 Hillary

@Shuk: For me, it is his eyes… or his way of eating her up … make that staring at her… makes my toes curl… LOL.

          • 13.2.2.1.5 Shukmeister

I feel like Do Jin is more “real” than the other characters. No noble idiocy, no wondering about his feelings, no cluelessness about what’s happening around him, no clumsy PDA. He is purposeful and confident – I adore that!

  14. 14 makoto

    Happy Friday…
This is my first comment in OT. Idk why but lately I really really reluctant to watch Kdrama, except for one which are still running such as Big, Ghost n AGD. Why suddenly I think the older dramas are so boring after I watch QIHM, RTP & TMTETS? heelp…

    • 14.1 ahjummabunny

I know the feeling. I recently rewatched protect the boss while I had started qihm and I found it a bit tiring and I loved it before. I think the thing to do is to watch OLDER dramas to see how far your old favorites had come.
Hi! and all those kinds of things.

    • 14.2 kopytko

Maybe you’ve already seen everything that seemed worthwile to YOU? When I started watching (devouring, to be precise) dramas I wanted to see my favourite actors’ work so I caught quite a number of older stuff. Now, after three years I know more or less what I like in my kdramas so I don’t event bother watching evidently makjang-y or stupid dramas. Unless there is an actor/actress I adore, but even then I am picky (like in case of Love Story in Harvard. I love Kim Rae Won, but not that much).

It depends on your personal taste ;) , for me Attic Cat (aka Rooftop Cat) was way better than RTP. And My Sweet Seoul was a nice remedy for withdrawal syndrome after the end of QIHM (the said end was on rather disappointing side, IMO)

      • 14.2.1 ahjummabunny

oh my god! tae oh is one of my favorite ji hyun woo characters. In fact the only one I love.

        • 14.2.1.1 kopytko

Hehe, kdrama-archaeology can be a very rewarding pastime, right?

    • 14.3 Shukmeister

      Welcome to DB OT.

I sometimes watch older shows if I find an interesting actor and want to see some of their older stuff. Also, RL tends to get in the way, so I’ll archive older shows for later viewing. For instance, TMTETS is one I’ll probably watch when the current batch completes.

There are some pretty good shows gong back a few years (Last Scandal, How To Meet A Perfect Neighbor are two from 2007), but you can generally be more choosey as well.

      • 14.3.1 Hillary

@Shuk: You really think that “How to Meet A Perfect Neighbour” is good … That is the one with Park Shi Hoo and Bae Doo Na, isn’t it? I couldn’t stand the first lead (before they changed it to Park Shi Hoo, that is) … reminded me of an alley cat. I could see why secondary lead, Park Shi Hoo, was “promoted.” But I found that story all over the place. The only good things about it was acting of Park Shi Hoo and Bae Doo Na.

        • 14.3.1.1 Shukmeister

I enjoyed the ‘Break The Cutie’ feel regarding Baek Soo Chan, evolving from a shallow playboy to someone who lives a meaningful life.

  15. 15 oftheshore

    Happy OT, everyone!
So everyone around me seems to be dating these days, and this got me thinking – what would the laws of KDdramas have me do to get a boyfriend at my age? Not that I want one, it’s just a hilarious exercise (or is it…?). So I had to eliminate all of the high school romance plots, because, obviously, it’s a bit too late. I’m also a bit young to be a Woman Who Still Wants to Marry, nor do I have the skills to be a stuntwoman (but hey, that automatically eliminates Joo Wons from the list of potential suitors, too!). I wouldn’t make a believable boy, so joining pop groups is not an option either. I have narrowed down my options to the following:
    (1) I can start a career in politics – city halls of the world, here I come!
    (2) Hire someone to be my Spare Tire, although I don’t have any past loves I want to get revenge on
    (3) Share a flat with a pop idol – but first I need to get my friends to sell my flat back at home to one
    (4) Work as a tour guide in my non-existent spare time (though Jeju is too far from here, unfortunately)
    (5) Intern with a dating agency located close to some law firm with cold and broody divorce lawyers
    (6) Annoy a chaebol, because, seriously, this works every time (verbal abuse should be enough, but might need to learn some martial arts skills, just in case)!
    Any other ideas?

    • 15.1 Korazy Lady

Love this! So many witty people on here!

    • 15.2 ahjummabunny

      funny!
Hmm I was thinking a little this week that my opportunities for meeting men in the kdrama way are less than nonexistent. I think I like your number 1 and your number 5 suggestions Dating Guru Oftheshore. I’ll work hard and let you know how it goes.

      • 15.2.1 oftheshore

        ahjummabunny,
Well, if anything, we can always go on arranged dates – you never know, Hyun Bin might just show up…;)

        • 15.2.1.1 ahjummabunny

I want yang dong geun to show up!!!!!

        • 15.2.1.2 Ivoire

          Oftheshore,
I literally LOled at the mention of HB showing up (I love HB). I would just have to be there to see it, if that happens :-) . Just so you know, he is quite shy in real life, so good luck!

          • 15.2.1.2.1 oftheshore

Eh, I was just thinking of rewatching KSS. <3

          • 15.2.1.2.2 Ivoire

Have fun rewatching KSS, HB looks so good in it, and they dressed him well, which I don’t think they always do in Kdramas (IMO).

          • 15.2.1.2.3 ahjummabunny

hey those sparkly track suits really matched him in secret garden!

          • 15.2.1.2.4 Ivoire

@ ahjummaB., yeah, he had the tracksuit in MNKSS and in SeGa, funny isn’t it?

    • 15.3 Eternal

I say annoy a chaebol. Always works in Kdrama-land!

Or you can just accidentally meet a hot successful man rear-first by chance and somehow magically capture his heart a la A Gentleman’s Dignity (sorry, I use magically, because I still don’t exactly get what drew Jang Dong-gun’s character to Kim Ha-neul’s character)? But I think you got most of the options covered in your list :P

      • 15.3.1 oftheshore

See, I personally love the Spare Tire option, but we still don’t know where they sell Tae Bongs, as JB once noted.

    • 15.4 aoiaheen

ha ha! I loved that last one. I seriously need to find a chaebol and then accidently bump into him and curse him and fling water at him and who knows? I might end up being married to him – after of course many battles with his family where I am humilated for being a gold digger.

      • 15.4.1 oftheshore

I’d suggest cross-dressing, if you can. Then maybe you could work in their restaurant and after some passionate kissing, a bit of drama and a barrista course, you could be happily married to our own chaebol!

        • 15.4.1.1 Shukmeister

As long as you stay away from any river, especially one where you can park near or under a bridge.

    • 15.5 Lang

      Hey,

      Don’t forget:

      (7) You can get hilariously drunk and then vomit on the main of your choosing on a subway cart, and make him clean up after you and go to a hotel together.

      (8) Get Drunk, and sleep with a younger guy , at least 10 years younger than you .

      • 15.5.1 oftheshore

Eh, had to exclude these options, since I don’t drink alcohol (which automatically lowers my chances to meet a guy, apparently!). They might work for someone else, nonetheless!

        • 15.5.1.1 daniela

this way you will never get a piggy back ride! so start drinking soju right now

          • 15.5.1.1.1 oftheshore

Ugh, I know, I know…but hey, I could try and piggyback some drunk chaebol-heir-of-food-company Eun-Chan style, then make sure he sees how hardworking~ I am when he wakes up sees me training some children – ahem – writing literature review in the morning. Coffee Prince FTW!

    • 15.6 Llamaesque

You could also start dressing like a boy…this seems to bring the hot, eligible bachelors running in drama land. (And, as an added bonus, is comfortable.)

      • 15.6.1 oftheshore

Yep, any girl who can afford to dress up as a boy should start doing so immediately. This seems to attract all kinds of men – from chaebols to scholars, from athletes to pop stars. It really seems like an awesome strategy! I just don’t make a convincing boy – although, to be honest, nor did Go Mi Nam. ;P

        • 15.6.1.1 Llamaesque

Well, except for that eyeball boiling part in the airport where they ripped her shirt off and…low and behold…boy parts! So randomly squicky, that scene.

          • 15.6.1.1.1 oftheshore

Ugh, glad I skimmed through the last few episodes.
Note to cross-dressing girls: it does help to have a twin brother!
By the way, Llamaesque, love your Kdrama list – I especially agree with you on the the Han Gyul/Eun Chan chemistry, it was crazy – good-crazy.)

          • 15.6.1.1.2 Llamaesque

I’m glad you liked the list :D

Maybe someday I’ll get over my Coffee Prince obsession…but I hope that day doesn’t come soon.

        • 15.6.1.2 oftheshore

Nooooo, we’re supposed to stay obsessed with Coffee Prince forever and tell the next generation(s) of k-drama addicts all about the epic chemistry between the two leads and Han Gyul’s Lego-like toys.:)

          • 15.6.1.2.1 Korazy Lady

I’m with you on that! No chemistry has compared since Coffee Prince….sigh…

          • 15.6.1.2.2 RockPaperScissors

Me too! i’ve made comments over the years to my non-Kdrama friends and relatives about Eun Chan and Han Gyul to the point that they think they are real people – you know, like Eun Chan ate this, said that…

Watching Office Girls, New My Fair Princess and waiting for the last episode of the Jdrama, Locked Room .

    Also, it’s my birthday. 53 <—

Might watch Jdrama Liar Game next.

I miss QIHM. I knew I saw stars in Hee-jin's early on in the show..

    Hoping Arang is good.

    • 16.1 Mystisith

Happy Birthday John! Have some quality time with your family. Exceptionally a big cake full of sugar and butter for you, and some champagne. Santé!

Cooking steaks and drinking beer later.

My yougest daughter and my grandson are visting from New Mexico, ( she’s stationed there in the Air Force).

Tomorrow I might go to an auction, my wife and daughter will probably preview that today.

I like Locked Room. I’m a Toda Erika fan though . Wish there had been more romance between the leads.

A lot of us miss QIHM, I swear, that drama raised the bar too high for me.

    • 16.5 becca_boo

Happy birthday, John! Hope to see you on the OT for many birthdays to come.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: if Arang isn’t good, I just might cry. I was looking forward to QIHM and loved it to pieces (there’s still a hole in my heart, if anyone needs proof), but I’ve been excited about Arang since the moment I heard about it. I’m just worried that my expectations are too high and it won’t measure up.

    • 16.6 cv

      Happy bday John! ^^

I have high hopes for Arang too. I know I shouldn’t so if it disappoint, I won’t feel so bad. haha! Oh well….

        Shuk~

Where do you find soju at in the Tidewater area ?
Soju and whipped cream looks like it would be fun.

The mead is bottled , it should be ready later this fall.

        • 16.10.1.1 Shukmeister

ABC store, John, under “cordials”. Those lovely familiar green glass bottles are around $ 5 apiece, and Jinro also has a 1.75L plastic bottle as well.

Oddly enough, the ABC stores in NC don’t carry it. I ask the manager, and he said the decision was made after a rash of alcohol-related incidents involving soju. I always figured moonshine was the rotgut of choice here. LOL.

And yea! for the mead! So everything’s bottled, then, for this year?

    • 16.11 mtoh

  17. 17 ahjummabunny

    Saranghaneun Chingu Deul!
I just finished episode 7 of Someday. I know I won’t be smashed to pieces. I won’t be smashed to pieces right? This morning on my way to work I got to thinking of the assassin in Kid Gang whispering to the number , the assassin being beat up by the delivery guys gang, that the assassin was the same guy all the time! Of course that meant that I was suddenly laughing, uncontrollably guffawing even on the train. The passenger I was standing in front of wasn’t especially pleased with that.
My company has reduced the viewing time of videos to 10 seconds so that means 15 minutes of drama takes much longer than it should. I watched QIHM 2 weeks ago. When I first started to watch it I loved it and I loved it all through until the last episode. I can’t help the feeling of betrayal. My sister felt the same way about coffee house, I hope the writer stops trying to give “surprise” endings.
Today should mark the 45th day before I leave work but instead we got news that they might extend the transition process to the end of the year. I need cheery drama recommendation

    • 17.1 Mystisith

ahjummabunny: Your work conditions look hectic. :( I agree with your sister on the Coffee House ending: Blehhhhh.
Seriously, if you want to laugh a good one try AGD: Just the prologues of each episode are masterpieces. Satisfied or your money back.

      • 17.1.1 ahjummabunny

        *waves*
yeah man, those people in ogs (office of global security) are going out of their minds trying to find useless things to restrict! agd is definitely on my radar, but I want to watch kim chakanim’s love story dramas first.

    • 17.2 becca_boo

Wow. After you asked for a cheery drama, I looked back at all I’ve seen and realized that, apparently, I watch a lot of angsty and/or frustrating dramas. And a lot of them are supposedly rom-coms. : )

Anyway, I have couple suggestions. First, Soulmate because it has great conflict but isn’t terribly angsty and is a whole lot of fun, and the ending is one of (if not my absolute) favorite drama endings. Second, Bad Family, if you can find it. The first episode is terrible, but after that it really takes off: the rest of the series is one long squee-belly-laugh-and-heartwarming combo.

Oh and if you haven’t seen it, The Woman Who Still Wants to Marry is guaranteed to make you smile.

      Hope this helped!

      • 17.2.1 ahjummabunny

aww thanks becca! I actually like the angsty stuff. I recently watched ruler of your own world. I was sobbing in the first 5 minutes and nothing had happened that was really sob worthy! Loved it. I will look for bad family I think it used to be on mysoju when I first started watching dramas.
You need some funny in your life! Have you seen kid gang or saengchori? pak kyu!

        • 17.2.1.1 becca_boo

Oh my – I actually loved Kid Gang, but I’m always hesitant to recommend it because it’s so gross. When it wasn’t crass, though, it was really funny and sweet. I fell in love with Lee Ki-woo, and the Chinese/ninja assassin had me in stitches.

Don’t worry, I do get a lot of funny too, but I’m always on the look-out for more. Does Saengchori have romance? Call me shallow, but I always like having an OTP to squee over.

          • 17.2.1.1.1 ahjummabunny

saengchori’s romance gave me second lead syndrome. saengchori is actually written by one of the high kick writers, it’s a mystery story and also has the high kick theme of chosen family. you’ll love it.

    • 17.3 ck1Oz

What about Ojakgyo Brothers?Best written family drama and made me feel all the warm fuzzies especially since you mention your family regularly .

      • 17.3.1 ahjummabunny

you know, ojakgyo had many set ups or story lines that I would’ve like to see develop. I have too wait awhile until I forget what it’s about though.

    • 17.4 Hillary

@ahjummabunny: I loved Someday. It had a great ending that really fit in with the story, so you won’t be smashed to pieces. And I loved the artwork on that show.

    • 17.5 Ivoire

Hi Ahjummabunny, what does your first line (your greeting) means?

      • 17.5.1 ahjummabunny

umm I want it to mean beloved friends, but I think the korean expression is different something like precious friends.

      • 17.5.2 Ivoire

@ AhjummaB., ah, thanks! I knew “Sarang” meant “Love” and “Chingu” meant “friends” but after that I wasn’t sure about the whole sentence.

  18. 18 Korazy Lady

Hello everyone! First time posting on the OT, but had to comment after laughing out loud at the opening joke! Am an avid Dramabeans follower and read the OT when I get a chance. I really enjoy the comradery on here, especially since there is so much diversity (and also, I believe, a few older commenters like myself!)

Matilda – I love Gentleman’s Dignity – my number one look forward to drama, and am watching Big. But I must say I don’t feel the Hong sisters are using Gong Yoo to his abilities in this drama. I mean the man just oozes charm and sexuality, and can play angst like no other, yet his role (not his acting) seems a little stifled here. Give the man some kissing scenes already!!!!

Just my thoughts – thanks for letting me share.

    • 18.1 Mystisith

I’m watching Big and it’s OK but for some reason something holds me back. I don’t Love it.

      • 18.1.1 YY

Me too, Mysti…I think it’s because I keep thinking Gong Yoo’s not Gong Yoo.

      • 18.1.2 oftheshore

Same problem here. I love Gong Yoo so much in Coffee Prince, I can just watch him in that scene where he helps Eun Chan get a can of coffee from the top shelf and then makes a funny face for *ages*, but…Big just doesn’t do it for me. I guess if Suspiciously Reserved Doctor wasn’t unconscious, it would’ve made for a much more interesting dynamic. It might actually be my biggest problem with the drama. The second issue I have is with the pairing. It would have been more original if KJ actually just needed a loving family, and they would all try to solve the mystery of how to switch the two souls back together. All in all, interesting premise, but the execution is just meh.

        • 18.1.2.1 Hillary

For me, the best scene in Coffee Prince, was when he had Eun Chan against the wall, then they ended up in bed… followed closely by the scene where he sang to her over the phone the morning after Eun Chan fell asleep while talking to him on phone.

I am watching Big with reservations because I don’t know what the ending will be. I think I want her to end up with KJ in Gong Yoo’s body… LOL.

  19. 19 Laya

I realized it was just about time for the OT, so I popped in here… happy weekend, OT denizens! :D I’m watching the Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition while having dinner– it was the finale of Dahil sa Pag-ibig earlier, so I hope I can get caught up on my recaps now.

Still watching Princess and I too… and Alquanna and I are still mixed up about the OTP (which we discussed on PDR). Either way this swings, though, we are going to get serious second lead syndrome because both Jao and Gino are so adorable. I foresee war if Jao wins out over Gino, –just reading the Twitter discussions, a lot of fans don’t care about the story, they just want the KathNiel couple. Gah. One funny thing, though– they recently changed the intro credits, and then coincidentally, after we posted our discussion, they changed the cast listing order– Enrique’s swapped places with Daniel. So I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Anybody on the thread watching I Need Romance 2012?
Just putting it out there, Lee Jin-Wook and Kim Ji-Suk are really, really hot.

I need to suggest to viki that they allow queues. vikii is really good for marthoning. gahhhhh thanks for reminding me of this drama.

    • 20.2 kopytko

Hot is an adequate word. Lee Jin Wook and Kim Ji Woo keep me hooked.
Plus I think the guy who enters in ep.3 as the nice guy encouraging the cute-dumb-innocent heroine is the jerk who didn’t appear on his own wedding in the first series. Or is it that all the handsome actors look alike? ;)

To me he does look the same, but I am not confident about recognizing actors. But there is also this line where he says he had experienced something like that before – is it a reference to his misdeeds in INR 1?

I agree!!! All the main casts is so cute and lovely!

Happy Friday, everyone! A terrible heatwave swept my part of the country this week, so I’ve been cooped up inside catching up on dramas. I finally finished High Kick 3, and the ending left me a blubbering mess. The show was just so consistently heartwarming that the ending montage brought tears to my eyes. I’m really going to miss all the characters.

I know this may be a shot in the dark, but does anyone know of any webpage or resource that has more information about the show’s soundtrack? I loved most of the song choices throughout the drama, and I’m itching to get my hands on a full song list.

    Hi Everybody!
    How are you doing?
My week was completely disrupted by one little ballad – I just HAD to rewatch and rewatch and rewatch it – I tell you it was a bothersome thing to do. And the other mean thing was the lack of the preview for the next episodes… but tomorrow evening I will finally feed my ADGiction :D . I stooped so low that I watch raws and use google translator (btw, I must say learning hangul can be quite a funny pastime – highly recommended for any nerd who hasn’t done it yet)

I continue watching Ghost – the ninth episode was very good! The plot moved, SJS raised both his eyebrows and Mad Cow detective proved to be a good old-school cop. So far, so good – I’m curious about episode 10.

INR2 isn’t as endearing as the first series, but still entertaining. And there is Lee Jin Wook. I certainly have a soft spot for him. I do! I even rewatched several episodes of City of Glass – and although that drama was a stinker with the worst Evil Mother in Law (EMIL) in the whole universe – LJW megawatt smile was worth it. Actually, I wish I could find episodes 21-50. I am curious how did the thing end.

Somebody recommended I Love Lee Tae Ri last week – whoever it was – thank you! I had watched the first ep and found it gross, so natuarlly i ditched it. But somehow I watched the 5th episode and it was very much OK. I am looking forward for the comming episodes.

My love for Can Love Become Money doesn’t wither either :)

    Have a lovely weekend, Everybody!

      HI kopytko!
Love ghost too! ^^ The plot is moving forward at a great pace. Can’t wait for next week already. haha!

Anybody know a really good Doenjang Jjigae recipe? Or Kimchi Jjigae?

All the recipes I’ve tried from Maangchi have turned out superb!

      • 24.1.1 am

The comments from people who have tried it make me want to eat some NOW.

Thank you for sharing! I shall try this within the week.

It’s not the recipe it’s the kimchi . Just make sure you use old kimchi or kimchi shin.Plus put some mirin to take away the pork smell.Good luck.

    Hi everyone.

Thanks to the AGD recommendation on OT last week, I finally watched it. I slept at 3am in the morning just because i need to go to work if not I would have finished all the episodes in one go. Fuh, totally addicting. Some parts are pretty boring to me, because I’m not really interested in their stories but the DooJin-YiSoo scenes, oh my, utterly romantic! Can’t wait for Ep11 to come now!

I continue to adore I Do I Do. Its moving slowly, but it has so much heart and I’m so emotionally invested in the characters, I keep coming to it everytime. Like last night, I was watching Big 7, the videos are all ready to be watched until Ep8, but in the middle of it I stopped and went to watch IDID instead. Big is fun, but I cant seem to connect with it. I dont know what’s wrong.. Same thing with Bridal Mask which I stopped watching already.

I also started I Need Romance 2 this weekend. I’m leaning towards Kim Ji Suk’s character and feeling flat for the main couple which worries me because if they will have the same ending as the first season, I’m clearly already heading towards doom. So now, I’m losing interest..

Anyway, after all these dramas, somehow I’m not feeling contented yet. Aigoo, whats wrong with me.. Any other shows anyone is watching right now? K-movies maybe? or Taiwanese or J-drama?

    • 25.1 ahjummabunny

I think it’s just a season thing. You’re the 2nd person that mentioned feeling it. I’m watching someday on crunchyroll.

      • 25.1.1 wanne

You could be right. I never heard of Someday. I searched just now, is it a 2006 kdrama? How do you find it so far? I think I need a complete drama right now to marathon.

        • 25.1.1.1 ahjummabunny

It has the right mixture of humor, depth and creepiness and the lead character is unlikely- or in extreme denial. She doesn’t come across as a person who wants to be cured or a wounded bird though. I loved it from the first episode.

        • 25.1.1.2 Hillary

Someday is one of my favorite dramas. It slowly builds and I got so invested in the characters … I was watching 2 episodes a week on tv, and then ended up looking for it online, finding drama on mysoju and then marathoning it. It was my first korean drama marathon. And after that, I found Boys Before Flowers and dramabeans, and the rest is history.

          • 25.1.1.2.1 ahjummabunny

ahem, I’m at episode 8, he’s not going to do it is he??? he seems just the type. you know I knew that he has deep feelings but when he’s with alien girl I forget and I think he forgets but when I see him asking for 3 days I worry.

          • 25.1.1.2.2 Hillary

@ajummabunny: If you really want to know … there is some angst … so you can read below.

            SPOILER:

Episode 10 reveals what happened to SM’s family and JW. SM left to sort out his feelings and turns up in Episode 11. Unfortunately, the doctor (cannot stand him) proposes at the end of Episode 11, just when SM comes back for H… and he sees it all. SM goes on drinking binge, that lasts through Episode 12… and it doesn’t end well for H. SM did not know what he did and doctor “persuaded” H to leave country, so he did not know where she was. Fortunately, he found out in Episode 13, which is the end of the major angst… There is still some left but I did not cry for those episodes as I did in 10, 11 and 12. Maybe a little bit in either Episode 15 or 16, as the old lady gave her back story (such a beautiful love story of a love that lasted from their childhood even though they did not get together as a couple… they were devoted to each other to the end).

            END SPOILER…

But it turns out good at the end.

          • 25.1.1.2.3 ahjummabunny

            dear hillary with 2 l’s,
please warn others that they shouldn’t put on their night cream and miracle eye cream (fingers crossed) while watching the drama someday. I think the drama is going downhill.

          • 25.1.1.2.4 ahjummabunny

Yeah I just bawled through episodes 9 to 11. I like kim min joong ( the dr.) but I hate his character. I’m sickened by him every time he comes on the screen and he’s always touching her!!!! I’m wondering if I’ll ever like him again now. Incidentally, he was on happy together for hi show romance town last year and he hinted that he and bae doo na did date after working together. maybe it was big news back in the day too. but jeeze he’s so gross.

          • 25.1.1.2.5 Hillary

@ahjummabunny: And the problem is that I don’t like the actor that plays the doctor. He has such a fake smile … So I think that it definitely influenced my feelings for him in the show … He just got on my last nerve, with the inappropriate touching and his trying to keep them apart. I felt like he tried to stash her away … because he knew they wanted to be together. Though there was a shower scene (I think it was in Episode 13, 14 or 15 … cannot remember which … with the resplendent abs on full display as he cried in the shower … that was the only time I sympathized with him … and the abs did not not impact my view of him … LOL).

    • 25.2 Kim Yoonmi

Legal High (though it felt a little Shaggy Dog towards the end–it was still funny)

I usually don’t ask for second series, but I love Legal High so much I want to see a second one… (The mangaka showed up in the final episode)

The humor tends towards slapstick, but I find that fun. It’s fast-paced, silly fun. Don’t expect much heart-warming here. The rug tends to get pulled just as you think it’s going to go there. (Which is often for laughs) Well-acted over all and a breezy, light watch.

Locked Room Mystery LOVE IT. I love the off-beat music cues. The humor is a little on the subtle side, but I really like it. Some of the mysteries are easy to figure out, but the delivery makes up for it. A little slower than the previous, but I liked that fact. I can forgive Toda Erika for skipping the last Liar Game for this. (She has a tendency to melt from role to role and sell it well.)

Mikeneko Holmes is based on a manga. Not all the episodes are subbed. The mysteries are easy to figure out and there isn’t really any romantic tension, however, the whole cat thing sells it for me. It’s kind of over the top humor, though no slap stick. This is kinda back burner for me, so I don’t mind waiting for episodes.

Papadol is definitely back burner drama. If you’ve watched a bunch of dramas before, this is pretty predictable, but it does have eye candy to spare (Kanjani 8). I’d say it’s on the fluffy, heart-warming side more than it is funny. Not all episodes are subbed yet.

Taiwanese dramas–I’m kinda waiting for something exceptional to come along. Love Forward is waaaayyy too predictable if you’ve watched dramas before. And Office Girls doesn’t catch me in the gut and I find it too scattered.

I know people really didn’t like it but the last Winnie [Director of ISWAK and TKA and the Rose--all exceptional dramas] drama, In Time With You with Ariel Lin and Bolin Chen was good. If you approach it as an older woman drama rather than an idol drama, there are some really intellectually smart things the drama has to say about women that resonate with me across continents. This drama, though, it’s not pure fun like the previous I listed. It engages the head more than the heart, which may be the reason people don’t like it. Also it breaks drama convention very highly and doesn’t sell people on the fantasy romance story. I love how slice of life and layered it is. Also how Winnie screwed with the watcher through the previews (which he always does–every single last drama he screws with people through the previews which is a statement in of itself.) and kinda pissed off a lot of people because of that. Also the characters aren’t always likable, but are fleshed out realistic because of that–it’s almost like warts and all, you kinda still understand them. But I think despite all those things that it really makes a fantastic art piece. The understandings of the characters and the viewer blooms–which is something Winnie is really good at. (If you’ve watched Miyazaki films you’ll see the same kind of thing. It’s an ability I envy very much.) So if you like Literary reading and discussions of roles of women in society, this might be up your ally.

      • 25.2.1 wanne

Thanks for the suggestions! I will check them out. I like dramas that have heart be it comedy, romance, action etc. But no makjang and OTT acting/characters. I watched some episodes of In Time With You and really liked it for the reasons you mentioned but stop at some point near the end because I couldnt stand them dragging the story any longer with the hero unable to confess. Maybe I’ll check it back one day. Thanks again :)

        • 25.2.1.1 Shukmeister

I liked “Summer Desire” with Peter Ho. A lot of dramatic profiles, but the plot is only slight makjangy in my opinion.

  26. 26 becca_boo

Currently watching more dramas than you could shake a fist at. It’s fun, but it also means that I’m behind on most current dramas and still finishing some older ones. I dropped TK2H for a while after QIHM came on the scene, and I’m finally getting back to it – only 4 episodes left!

Is anyone watching I Love Lee Tae Ri? Thoughts?

  27. 27 lennonfrk

Hope this works, it’s my first time posting a link to a pic. I LOVE AGD right now; the lead girl was getting really annoying but now she’s starting to grow on me a bit. I love JDG but think he’s too skinny in this show. Am I the only one? He’s still hilarious; I don’t think I’ve ever seen him be bad in something. Plus, he’s scruffy sometimes and I’m a sucker for guys with facial hair and long hair.

I’m still watching old Kdramas because they’re on Netflix, lol. I finished watching Scent of a Woman this week and I’m re-watching their tango scene. Reading your comments I think I’ll start watch QIHM or K2H next.

    • 27.1 kopytko

I am glad that AGD shows men who are maybe past their prime time and if you look at the separate parts of their bodies they’re not exactly the hottest stuff, but they still are attractive. Many people complained about JDG’s bare chest – as too skinny and without a sixpack. And I would say: that’s how an average man looks like. It’s just ok. Also people without choco abs have sizzling relationships. Really, with those eyes truckloads of women could fall for the guy even if he developed a solid beer muscle :)

      • 27.1.1 Ivoire

        Hi Kopytko *Waves and smiles*

I understand what you are saying, but I beg to differ slightly: those guys in my book ARE HOT. They have defined muscles and they look very good for their age (they have different body types, but they are not overweight. Tae San wore skinny jeans and he looked good).
The problem that I have with the choco abs with many of the younger actors is that they are not realistic. I don’t personally believe that they are like that ALL THE TIME. They are probably photoshopped a lot of the time and those (younger) guys probably start getting their bodies ready before a drama (to look the way they do during shower scenes). An example is Jun Hyun Woo (Queen In Hyun’s Man). If you pay attention, you will see that in QIHM, he looks different than in Mr. Idol. He doesn’t look bad, just not as thin and muscle defined (I didn’t mind one bit, he still looked hot and he looked very good). Also in the pictures released of his date with YIN in the park, he looks even bigger (he gained weight when he was done filming). That was the first thing that caught my eye, and she looked rounder/plumbier too.
I have seen the same thing with Rain (the singer) and I am sure that happens with a lot of people whose body image is important for their career (entertainment industry and others). The actors/actresses very often say that they lost weight for a particular role (Hyun Bin for SeGa, Ha Ji Won for TK2Hs, Lee Jang Woo for I Do I Do, Kim Sun Ah for Scent of A Woman, Kim Bum for Padam Padam, etc…) and sometimes it’s dangerous like KSA eating only once a day and Kim Bum developing arthritis as result. They must be on a yo-yo diet all year long with their work (ok, maybe not) but I do hope they get to enjoy food.
I am not against looking good and (healthy) but other things are important as well, as you know I am sure. I would take Yoon over a younger (well buffed) guy any day: he is seriously attractive, he trims his nails (not all men do), he cooks (at least he tries, so you know he doesn’t mind helping in the kitchen and he can always improve there), he is responsible, kind, caring, financially secure, funny, and not afraid of acting silly (beginning of episode 5 always cracks me up) and he’s smart, sensitive and he is gentle most of the times and very respectful. He is in touch with his feminine side (Tae San called him JD’swife, remember, so funny and so true), he is a great friend and he is very loyal. He has shown that he can also put his foot down if he needs to.
He is not overweight, so seriously, what’s not to like? I am a little bit older, so I would totally fall for and appreciate someone like that (especially if he is faithful, which is HUGE in my book). And Yoon would be. (He would probably be very attentive in the bedroom, always a good thing for a guy, but I won’t go there :-) although I already did :-) ).
Yoon is simply adorkable and cute!!!! (I seriously LOVE him in the beginning of episode 5, KMJ did such a good job!). I think KMJ is handsome (and cute) in his own way.

I do agree that JDG is on the very thin side, let’s not forget TV adds 10lbs, so how big is JDG, really? Not very… I think he needs to eat and gain some weight (my humble opinion). At the end of the day, I am not him or his wife, so it’s their call. And you are right, they are some skinny people and very thin people in the world, and not all of them have 6 packs, so that is also very realistic.
Coming back to JDG, I have seen pictures of him a littler bigger and he looked better to me. His face was fuller and he looked healthier. In AGD, his cheeks are sunken and that makes him look older than the other F44 in my book. He looks older and worried (to me) a lot. I also think he would look better with his hair back. A lot of the Korean actors/models look better to me when we can see their whole face (example, Gong Yoo in Big. Love him with the Doctor hair).

        • 27.1.1.1 lennonfrk

Kopytko, I’m totally for men being realistic looking. Personally, my time is a medium sized man, no muscles needed. His chest is fine—that scene was really hot too. What bugs me about JDG is that his cheeks are sunken in (like Ivoire said) and I think he is way hotter than how he looks in the show. He is such a good actor, and his character is so charming, that he’s still hot. The sunken cheeks are what get me! Maybe it’s the makeup? I’ve seen recent pics. of him and he looks fine, so I guess his character is just supposed to be skinny.

Oh, did I miss something with the flower dishes Yoon bought? What was that supposed to mean? Because Im Meari had a look.

          • 27.1.1.1.1 kopytko

Someone pointed out that flowery dishes looked girly – Meahri was supposed to think there is a woman in DoJin-Yoon household. Which in turn was meant to suggest one of them was dating – maybe Yoon?

        • 27.1.1.2 kopytko

          Hi Ivoire!
I don’t mean I find F44 unattractive. I mean they do differ from the current idea of a hot guy in k-entertainment (let’s say the epitome thereof is Jung Gyu Woon). And I know this ideal is anything but representative for the entire society.
The funniest thing I have heard about choco abs was that they were created with aerograph and some tanning lotion. I don’t think it’s impossible. And I agree that it is sick and wrong what some actors do to their bodies to loose weight. I should better stop now before I get started about dieting in Asian cultures.

Actually, I’ve been wondering what makes people attractive or not. There was a boy I got to know when I was in highschool. He was very smart and quite nice. But the thing that cracked me up was his looks. If you looked at his nose, you would say it’s too wide, if you looked at his eyebrows you would say they’re scary and his lips were weird, too. Yet he was universally considered very attractive. Anyway, the whole school laughed when a teacher explained the difference between ‘pretty’ and ‘handsome’ saying ‘a flower is pretty and K. is handsome’. And yeah, my greatest HS crush was K’s friend: a bit plump, buck teeth and always messy hair – but unbelievably talented and witty. *goes to swoon over hs crush – it’s been 10 years…*

          • 27.1.1.2.1 Ivoire

            Hey Kopytko,

Always sooooo good to hear from you :-) . I LOVE the story about your HS crush, so realistic and so refreshing. I do watch Kdramas in part for the pretty (yeah, I am a little shallow) but I also see the actors/actresses as real people and I sometimes think of what they are willing to do (and brag about doing) for the sake of being in the entertainment industry/fame/money/popularity and I don’t personally envy them. Especially knowing that many of them have plastic surgery, so what we see is not how they (many of them) originally were. It is good to keep those things in mind.
What is an “aerograph?” I take it you are Asian if you can talk about Asian dieting habits or you live/have lived in an Asian country(ies). Yeah, each country/culture has its own share of things we don’t do so well (or that we should stop doing). I personally do think that choco abs on pictures are photoshopped, because when i see the people in shows or on TV, they don’t look like what the picture shows, even under their clothes. Case in point: I am not sure I buy this as being real (as them being like this, or like this all the time). What do you think? They do sell a fantasy, don’t they? As I said, I like Yoon better :-)

            http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10150960291101961&set=a.10150307649226961.330192.60878026960&type=1&comment_id=6486244

I also wondered about the flower plates. I am glad someone brought it up. Thank you for your answer/explanation.
Will you be visiting OT throughout the weekend? Because I have more in store for you :-)

          • 27.1.1.2.2 kopytko

Well, I’m European and I have never been outside Europe yet, but there is a whole lot of blogs (written by Asians and people who reside in Asia for a longer period of time – I find those reliable) and many other sources like magazines where you can learn about such things. For example my favourite political magazine discussed consequences of rapid economical growth in SK – social and cultural. So I believe to have read enough material to have an opinion about Asian worship of skinny figure. As I said, don’t get me started.

Aerograph (or airbrush) – basically a tool to spray ink or paint. In this case it would be tanning lotion to paint contours of “muscles”. To cut the long story they make up (lol!) guys’ abs. I don’t know, maybe they use it for live performances, when there is no chance to use photoshop?

Fantasy is good (thank goodness for So Ji Sub) but it’s there just as a cherry on the top of the cake, other things are more essential.

While talking about attractive vs essential, this funny little song came to my mind:
            http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7GhrUaNDAI
it says sheer unattractiveness can be an advantage too, although in a fickle way :D

          • 27.1.1.2.3 JoAnne

Ivoire, I get what you’re saying and I think you are right about it in most cases…unfortunately for your illustrative photos, those two boys actually DO look like that. I don’t think Wooyoung has tattoos…but that’s all Taec. He can barely keep from busting out of a teeshirt in regular photos, and he’s MILES bigger than anyone around him, ever.

I know from dating a bodybuilder in the past that before photos they’ll have a very restrictive diet for a couple of days (it’s not for caloric reasons, but for water retention) and then immediately beforehand they’ll actually lift some weights to get pumped – so they look bigger (slightly) than they do just walking around, but more important is the definition of the muscles and the vascularity. So there’s that, but it’s really not much.

          • 27.1.1.2.4 Ivoire

@ Kopytko, I will come back and comment later.

@ JOAnne, thank you for adding to this conversation: you expanded on what I was saying and I appreciate your input. I was just very curious about Wooyong because any time I have seen him (always with clothes on), he just didn’t seem to be that “wide” under his clothes (I have seen him in a variety of TV shows (variety shows) and in Dream High and in WGM (Khuntoria couple where he was one of the children :-) ) and I am not putting him down or anything but he looked a lot smaller in his chest area (remember Dream High, who knew that kind of chest was under there, seriously? He didn’t look big in DH, he looked… normal, smaller than the photo would suggest).
JoAnne, you know from reading my posts that I am analytical and that I like to ponder, process the info I am given, deduct and then conclude. I have seen Wooyong in music videos and yeah, he was buffed up, they all were. But in other stuff, I just didn’t see it (and I am not saying that I could not be wrong). So I am a little puzzled and surprised that Wooyong would really look like that.
I can believe that (possibly) for Teacyon, but even with him, I can’t help but wonder if he is like that 365days/year :-)
I really liked reading your input JoAnne, thanks again :-) By the way, is your hand all healed now?

        • 27.1.1.3 JoAnne

@Ivoire – for Wooyoung I think the change is relatively recent. One of the JB girls was talking – I think it might have been Gummi – about how he’d kept his abs under wraps for the big reveal. We can’t forget that these these guys are pretty young, either, and physically that has a big impact. In reality their size is pretty small and what we get to see is a lot of wiry-ness and definition. Things that can be hid under clothing, certainly. At a certain age, though, adding ‘bulk’ like Taec did becomes a bit easier, but he’s a brawny guy for an Idol, and I think even he might barely toploo 160lbs. I agree with you that when they have an ‘off season’ they might relax a bit, but not that much. You can’t have that ultra definition without a very restrictive diet and a lot of time in the gym. We’ve seen how My Beloved’s body changes according to projects – he will never reach Ninja Assassin proportions again, but he is always fit. It’s funny that when he’s just his normal fit self he’s still got six pack and all but he looks so thick, even a little chunky – it’s because we’re not used to seeing any fat at all on those malnourished idol boys, and he’s built like a man.

          • 27.1.1.3.1 Ivoire

JoAnne, glad to read your thoughts. I will be back later to comment :-)

  28. 28 Liz

I think I am going to go back and catch up on some older dramas in the next few days (perhaps Secret Garden).

It’s nice that the new dramas I am following release over several days instead of being all clumped into a couple of days, and I’m pretty happy with most of them – Big; Bridal Mask; I Do, I Do (except for the secondary love interest…the actor is attractive, but the character is truly a Doctor without Borders, LOL!).

I’m also watching I Need Romance 2 but I’m wondering a few things about it.

Here’s a drama that set up a primary love relationship right off the bat, but I’m a little wary about getting too invested in that.

Perhaps this will be a story that resolves with the heroine ending up with the new man she meets instead. In other words, setting up an expected primary relationship/future happy ending but then veering off with the heroine ending up with another man. It happens sometimes in dramas (the dreaded Fashion King), but not very often in romantic comedies.

The other Korean romantic comedy series that comes to mind that did something similar (setting up one guy in the beginning to be the romantic lead, when the heroine was destined to be with another guy) was Boys Over Flowers, and in that case, the heroine didn’t have a previous romantic history with either man….it was more that one was an instant attraction, and the other built over time.

I don’t know if similar twists happened in I Need Romance 1, and I’m wondering if that would give me any clues as to what to expect.

    • 28.1 wanne

I would love if that twist happens in 1NR2. I’m more interested in the 2nd lead guy. So far, there’s not much screentime with the 2nd guy, a lot of focus on the main couple instead, which could be like you said, the primary relationship. But in 1NR1 the heroine went back to her first boyfriend so that makes me wary.

    • 28.2 Kim Yoonmi

What she needs from the main guy is to know why he won’t marry her. Once that mystery is solved for her and the watchers, where the chips land is still up in the air.

At this point I don’t mind if they fall in either direction, probably because I’m in it for the story drug rather than wanting to conduct anything or hooping for outcomes. I’ll be please with either–just give me the answer to the mystery.

    • 28.3 DB5K

Feel free to get attached to and invested in the original OTP. I’ll bet my entire life savings that Yeolmae will end up with Seokhyeon. INR2 basically has the same premise as INR1, as well as many, many other similar plot elements. The recurring theme of the INR series is a woman at an age where she wants a stable relationship, ie marriage, yet is unable to forget her ex-boyfriend with whom she’s had a looonngg history but also (seemingly) insurmountable conflicts. They do get together in the end, though~~

Most kdramas establish their OTPs very well. Viewers generally feel confused and at a loss when it’s not crystal clear. FK is a one in a hundred exception. The writer is known for crazy, unexpected endings, and Lee Je Hoon’s character had a huge following amongst viewers, which the writer may have noticed and taken into consideration when writing the ending of FK. Lee Je Hoon is basically the breakout rookie actor of 2012.

      • 28.3.1 Liz

Well, I understand the Lee Je Hoon appeal…but it’s not like the heroine actually ended up happy.

As far as my rating on Fashion King, I don’t think I could even fit the negative number into a blog response.

I love this song of the day! I’ve been listening to it on repeat for the past 30min and it’s just so soothing. It’s the perfect lazy summer day song. Thank you javabeans for posting it!

Now, for me to rave about a Japanese drama. Just a few weeks ago I was in this slump for dramas and was watching of few first episodes of dramas but nothing got to me. But then one gem of a drama really got under my skin and it’s now secured a place in my heart as one of my all-time favourites. I keep going on youtube to just watch snippets of my favourite scenes and my heart just flutters. The jdorama is called “Sunao ni Narenakute”. It’s absolutely awesome. The soundtrack is really good too. I’ve changed my ringtone to one of the songs, “Hard To Say I Love You”. I always feel like going for a run when I hear it. Personally, the two stars of the show made me fall head over heels with their love story. I mean, Eita and Juri’s chemistry was off the charts. Check it out beanies if you have the time because I’m sure you will not regret it!

    • 29.1 Maya

Aw yeah, thanks for bringing this up, mud. I’ve been wanting to marathon this dorama, but something always come up. Maybe I’ll try to marathon it during this weekend. :)

      • 29.1.1 mud

No problem! Let me know what you think of it. I thoroughly enjoyed it and am in that state of reminisce for a drama and am constantly replaying my favourite scenes in my head.

    • 29.2 Shukmeister

I like any and all recco’s for JDorama. I’ve gone ahead and archived this for later viewing, probably next month.

      Arigato gozaimasu!

    Happy OT Friday,

I am a little sad right now, because yesterday the german soccer team lost their semi-final match against Italy. So the UEFA European Football Championship is over for Germany, unfortunaly.
But, thank God, there is dramabeans-OT, a lot of recaps zu read and a dramas to watch. With this I am a little less sad.

Last week I thought about the need of a flower-boy-summer-drama like ‘flower boy coast guard’ (or `swimming flower boys` or something like that).
My dream-cast is Lee Min-ho, Song Joong-ki and Yoo Ah-in, Choi Woo Shik , As boss Jung Suk Won or Jang Dong Jik and a pretty, athletic, tall girl, playing a physiotherapist or a trainer or so, is also needed.( one suggestion was Kim Jung Hwa).
And this week I saw Park Gun-hyung in IDID in jogging-clothes. Not bad baby.((( But where was my shower-scene??? After running he has to clean his body, right? So next time, I want to watch this. please!!))) I can imagine him as life guard, so he can join the cast. Not as flower boy. But maybe as swimming-teacher, or big brother or… .

And Lee Min-ho don’t need to join the cast, if he will filming cityhunter-season2, and season3 and season4…. I really like k-dramaland, but i do not understand the aversions against 2nd seasons.

    • 30.1 ahjummabunny

if you want to see park gun hyung in shower scene watch first episode of syndrome. you also see song chang ui in shower scene but you feel sorry for him having to stand next to a specimen like park gun hyung. I first fell in love with park gun hyung in when spring comes.

      • 30.1.1 Noelle

a shower scene you say *drool*

      • 30.1.2 Blaumauss

thanks for the hint! I will watch it! Definitely!

        • 30.1.2.1 ahjummabunny

you don’t have to watch the actual drama- it has my most despised villain a doctor who experiments on patients who think he’s actually their life saver. I don’t know why but that character was really hated by me even more than jo pil yon.

          • 30.1.2.1.1 Blaumauss

your right, this drama isn’t my thing. But I found the showerscenes in Ep4 already (thanks to the fast-forward-button, lol).
Veery nice and … totally funny because they standing there and talking about profession and patients and medical stuff and are naked ???? the whole time ??? oh my belly hurts from laughing

          • 30.1.2.1.2 ahjummabunny

oh is it episode 4? he he. maybe I got bazzidy from the shower scene and so episode 4 is the start of everything.

          • 30.1.2.1.3 Lainey

I like how this thread started from the Euro to shower scenes. Eye-candy to help me spend even more watching tv, or dramaland, as if I haven’t spend enough time doing that.
Totally agree with Blaumauss, I don’t understand why majority k-dramas don’t do 2nd season at all. Wouldn’t that be easier to work with ideas that are already there and expand on them, rather than to come up with fresh new dramas with fresh new writings (which don’t even make sense half the time, eg. Fashion King, The Musicals….. the list goes on)

    • 30.2 oftheshore

What do we want? City Hunter-2! When do we want it? Yesterday! Seriously, I need to see more corrupt politicians brought to justice by the Scooby Gang, aw yea!
Also, as the City Conquest thread shows, we need more City-dramas. City Seizure was my personal favourite, don’t remember who suggested it.

  31. 31 cv

    Happy OT all! ^^

Hope you all are enjoying all the great dramas this season. Oh my, how there are some good ones and those that are enjoyable but don’t have so much buzz about. Sad for those but what can you do?

Anyways, I’m still enjoying Ghost, Big, IDID, and Ataru.

I went back and marathon Jewel in the Palace in two days! arrgh! Heard great things about it and I suppose after watching, I can understand why. Love the acting, awsome looking foods–made me drool over, music was perfect for the show and appreciated the use of herbs/medicine at that time. Overall, I liked it but it’s sooooo long. I think this is the first Kdrama that I actually watched the whole dang thing without skipping. ahahhaah

Other then that… can’t wait for summer dramas. Lets see if they are as good as the spring. ^^

ps… Can’t wait for TOP to film his movie–Alumni! Oh my! ^_&

  32. 32 Noelle

    Happy OT everybody!

I am back on the IDID train and AGD is my crack. Loving where both shows are going even though I sense heartache is in the near future in AGD but hopefully the angst is short lived. I like that in IDID the Doc thought about marrying and adopting Ji An’s baby. He seemed like the kind of guy who would marry her anyways and raise the baby as his. He just loves her that much. God I feel so bad for him. He is just ans awesome guy. Thank the lord he’s some written character because if he was real I would cry nonstop for him.

Big is just…I can’t talk about Big without sighing. I don’t understand what’s doing on that show. The only thing worth sticking around for is GY.

    Later Beans!

    • 32.1 Mystisith

We might be the only ones who like the Doc in IDID. I’m even afraid to comment on the recaps now. LOL.

      • 32.1.1 Ivoire

        Mysti,

Did you see my recent comments (under my name), I said that the doctor was dreamy (I could look at him all day) and he does have a heart :-) . He wants to do right by her and help her, but she won’t let him. ***Spoilers*** I love the scene where he showed her how to massage her chest, so funny *** End o spoilers*** They must have had fun filming that scene.

Mysti afraid of commenting on DB recaps, wow!!!! What has the world come down to :-) ?

        • 32.1.1.1 Mystisith

I saw them. You seem to like the show a lot!
The restaurant scene was funny indeed, more than the one with LJW wearing heels and make-up: Had to hide my face in my hands for that one.
I’m realistic: People who watch this show want to see their OTP together. I opt for a strategic retreat. Poor Doc is like the Devil on Earth. Bah, not a problem: I will fix his broken heart when the time will come. :) I’m just a hopeless fan of smart bastards in love.

          • 32.1.1.1.1 Ivoire

Hey, will be back later to respond :-)

          • 32.1.1.1.2 Noelle

I was shocked because he actually was sorta pretty. If they ever do a Drag Queen romcom like the Birdcage. He’s got my vote.

          • 32.1.1.1.3 Ivoire

@ Noelle, I agree with you, LJW did a good job being in women’s clothing. He was even flirtatious (remember the bathroom scene) :-) It reminded me of the promo they had for the show when he and KSA were in bed with the white sheet and he was being very flirtatious. That guy can seriously flirt :-)
I had the same thoughts you had: the tango bedroom scene made me LOL, the Dr. looked so silly (in a good way) and I would love to see the BTS and outtakes of the scenes you mentioned (Tango scene, Bathroom in the wheel barrow scene, cross dressing, and the massage your chest scene). I would have left the place as well if someone was doing that in public sitting in front of me :-) . (massaging their chest in public). How do you keep a straight face?

        • 32.1.1.2 Noelle

I busted out laughing at that scene. I want to see the outtakes so bad for that episode as well as the cross dress and bedroom tango scene. I bet it was hard to keep a straight face.

      • 32.1.2 bbstl

I do too! I’m pretty much only watching IDID for PGH. Am I the only one who thinks The Kid – no idea what his name is – is really lacking in the acting and chemistry departments?

  33. 33 Llamaesque

What, no Big love on the open thread this week? :(

I think the most recent episodes aren’t as awesome as the first few were, but I’m still enjoying the heck out of it. It’s funny, sweet, and delightfully full of head-scratching mysteries. And as of episode 8, it looks as if plot-y stuff might start happening soon, too!

Also, Gong Yoo is…golden. Beyond that, words fail me. They could have saved a lot of money on special effects in the Twilight movies if only they’d hired him to play a vampire, because he *sparkles* on screen. ::dreamy sigh::

    • 33.1 Marika

For some reason, I just can’t bring myself to watch episode 8 of Big. Perhaps it’s because I didn’t enjoy episode 7 very much or maybe it’s because I already know the ending of the episode thanks to tumblr. I don’t know.

Big is one o f those dramas that interests me, but it doesn’t completely suck me in.

    • 33.2 alua

Well… I just don’t have anything new to say about it. Still feel the same as last week.

KJ’s character in Gong Yoo’s body is what keeps me watching.

Well, judging from the comments on the recaps the marriage didn’t bother me as much as everyone else (they can just divorce if the bodies switch back IMO) although I suppose there are some ethical eyebrows to be raised in terms of the comatose YJ and some moral eyebrows in terms of how it would look to everyone else if the bodies switch back and Daran gets together with KJ properly in his real body.

I don’t know. I’m not too bothered… but I’ll keep watching. KJ-Gong Yoo is loveable as a character and sweet eye candy too.

      • 33.2.1 Llamaesque

I don’t believe for a minute that the wedding just happened silently off-screen. The Hongs have something up their sleeves there…

        • 33.2.1.1 Ivoire

          Interesting point of view…

        • 33.2.1.2 alua

Yep yep. I agree with you on that. An off-screen wedding… is a very useful trick to pull out when you need it later!

          • 33.2.1.2.1 JBB

Hmmm…. do you think they did a ceremony WITHOUT a registration?? Technically meaning there really isn’t a marriage and leaving DR open to have a relationship with KJ when he gets his body back.

            Iiiiiinnnnteresting.

        • 33.2.1.3 JoAnne

          That’s what I was thinking.

    • 33.3 Serena

Haha, though i was the only one wondering why theres no love for Big. i find the nearing of ep 8 cute , especially when KJ purposely didnt hand DR her passport and ticket so that he can go with her.

  34. 34 Kim Yoonmi

Who is watching I Need Romance 2~?

I kinda like this series over the first better–though I loved both.

I Need Romance 2 (w/o spoilers) is racier. It kind of delves deeper and the characters feel less of the stereotype of the “virgin”-”oversexed”(used in place of the stereotype derogatory word)-”Normal’” types, which feels better to me–since that’s really a disservice to women to fit them into roles.

This series also feels more complex and has a good set of actors with fantastic off the chart chemistry (boy to girl and girl to girl.) and really solid writing overall. (Feels less Sex in the City too, which is a plus in my playbook. Uhhghhh. There is a limit to shoes over girlfriends that you can take.)

The plot set up is NOT like the first one where there is a huge break up at the beginning which makes it interesting because it’s like the Big Yoon Jae Mystery, only the man is present. You have absolutely no idea why he won’t do the thing she asked just before they broke up the first time.

Though the lives of the women are a little overly messy, the trade off makes for good entertainment. It’s also fairly convincing that their lives could be that messed up since it comes from the character’s vices rather than thrown in to look interesting. I also love some of the jokes.

So anyone watching? It’s up on viki and dramacrazy.net (you need to turn on Adblock–google it) I’m looking forward to the next episodes since the first 4 were so good.

    • 34.1 Llamaesque

A Kdrama racier than the first I Need Romance?!?!?! Yes please!

::adds to my the “to be watched post-haste” section of her drama list::

    • 34.2 DB5K

I like INR2 more than INR1 too. I think it’s because I adore Jung Yumi’s fresh, peppy character and because her relationship with Seokhyeon is so cute. I also really like Kang Yesol’s character. So far I Need Romance 2 is one of my crack dramas, along with Phantom and Unexpected You~~

    • 34.3 Korazy Lady

I am watching and liking it (but then I like them racier!) I started watching because the lead girl was from Que Sera, Sera, which I loved, and pretty much enjoy all the characters so far. I like the chemistry between the leads and it’s got some pretty funny moments, too. I think it will really get interesting when the second male lead comes more into play.

  35. 35 Marika

Out of currently airing dramas, I’m only watching Bridal Mask and Big so far. Does anyone have any other recommendations?

I’ve been thinking about the following:
    Ghost
    A Gentleman’s Dignity
    I do, I do

What are all of your thoughts? Which out of these 3 do you enjoy the most? OR is there another currently airing drama not listed that you’re really enjoying?

    • 35.1 Mystisith

AGD if you need some light stuff and Ghost if you want to use your brain. Both are good.

      • 35.1.1 Marika

I guess it would be nice to have something light to watch, and something like Ghost. Thanks for your imput. :)

    • 35.2 kopytko

You want a drama to enjoy? AGD of course… It’s hilarious, the characters are lively, the romance is endearing, it’s easy on the eyes, music is nice – it’s my absolute favourite. But beware – it is addictive :)

      • 35.2.1 Marika

I’m completely fine with it being addictive. XD That just makes it all the better. I would really like something that’s not hard to watch and is really enjoyable, so I think I’ll start AGD. Thanks for the recommendation. :)

        • 35.2.1.1 kopytko

You’re welcome. Seems I am not the only one to preach AGDiction :)

        • 35.2.1.2 deb

I caught up on all 10 episodes in ONE DAY. I’ve never done this personally but it was worth it. It is seriously addicting and so fun (I was not in a happy place either) so don’t say you weren’t warned LOL…

          • 35.2.1.2.1 Marika

I’ll keep that in mind, though I’ll still blame all of you when I get addicted to the show. XD

I’ll start watching it tomorrow. :D

    • 35.3 Hillary

You cannot go against the tide … Definitely AGB.

Then I think it is toss up between IDID and Ghost. Like both, for different reasons. But probably like IDID more as I stream it live and watch it without subs until viki (got to love them) do their magic … and voila, subs within 8 hours of airtime.

      • 35.3.1 Mystisith

viki subbers and staff have all my respect: Huge task to deal with all those dramas. I will be eternally grateful to them.

  36. 36 Raya

Anyone watching MBC’s saguek “Soldier” aka “God of War”?

    • 36.1 ahjummabunny

i am!!! I’m up to episode 30! how far along are you? I like it.

  37. 37 ricky trh

    Greetings, Dbeaners!
    I am watching:

    Big
I think watching it is so much better than reading the recaps. I like a drama that makes me think and I think Big has definitely caused me to ponder about the direction of the story.

    I Need Romance 2012
WOW! I didn’t watch the previous series so I had no idea what to expect. I guess I’m so used to the idea of ‘innocent love’ in a lot of the dramas I’ve seen that I found my jaw dropping at the racier contents of this drama. Also, I’ve always liked the “best friends falling for each other” trope, so I’m looking forward to this drama even more.

    Absolute Boyfriend (Taiwanese)
I hate it when they dub voices.
I tend to press FF a lot.
Actually I’m not sure why I’m still watching it.

    Queen In-hyun’s Man
Still in love with Yoo Inna and still in love with the drama. Currently at episode 11.

    That Fool
I watched this drama 2 years ago and now I’m watching it again. There’s just something about this couple that really appeals to me. I’m up to episode 9.

    Have a great weekend!

    • 37.1 ahjummabunny

      hello sir!
that fool does have a kind of cable drama vibe doesn’t it? As in the good stuff we’re finding on cable now. I finished qihm 2 weeks ago. I marathoned and became the sunken eyed girl. But! I’ve invested in eye cream and I think it is working.

      • 37.1.1 ricky trh

        Hey, Bunny!
You nailed it! I think that’s why I’m so fond of That Fool. It’s not cheesy like some of the older dramas and feel umm, for lack of a better word, organic.
Anyways, I love the interactions between Kim Jung-ah and Hwang Jung-min.

Thank goodness I managed to restrain myself from finishing QIM in one go. Once I start with an episode, I can’t seem to stop. Good for you that you found some eye cream! My eye-luggage is unfortunately permanent.

    • 37.2 kopytko

      Hi Ricky!
I am also a fan of series that portray friends growing to something more (and lovers becoming true friends). I guess this is a very important topic in both seasons, although not explicitly discussed. If you have time, do have a look at the first season – I found it really amusing and maybe a tiny little bit more about feelings&emotions than physical desires as this is the case in INR 2012.

      • 37.2.1 ricky trh

        Hi, kopytko!
If I have the luxury of (more) time, I’ll definitely try the first season. I did hear that the ending was disappointed so that scared me a little bit.

Have you watched 9 Ends 2 Outs with Lee Jung-jae and Su-ae? That particular drama deals with best friends who are attracted to each other, as well.

        • 37.2.1.1 kopytko

In my opinion, the ending was in favour of friendship and I wasn’t disappointed at all. I won’t explain any further to avoid spoilers, but I understood the final choice of the heroine.

There is a thing about 9 ends 2 outs – it seems to deal with baseball. Baseball is a turn off in my eyes… Or is it in reasonable proportion to actual plot? I might have problem watching it, no matter how much I like Su Ae… Anyway thank you for the suggestion. This topic is not what you get to see often in kdramas, is it?

          • 37.2.1.1.1 ricky trh

Yeah, this topic is definitely a rarity. I’d like to see more dramas with this topic.

The drama is not about baseball at all. Baseball-esque sentences are used as the episode titles (also the title of the drama) and certain baseball analogies are made but those are rare, I’d say. Also, the second male lead is a baseball player. But the usage of baseball stops there.

You might think that it’s a sports drama (’cause of the title) but it’s not.
Drama is about being friends and being in love. Is all.

          • 37.2.1.1.2 kopytko

Now, that’s good news! Thank you for the explanation! I don’t mind it if the only thing I will not understand will be episode titles. That much I can handle.

    • 37.3 Hillary

Ricky TRH: I have been MIA for the past few weeks. Exams all finished? Or did I read somewhere (yes, I did not post but I lurked in the wee hours of the morning … LOL… OT is like my crack, cannot seem to stay away, even if I have nothing to say) that you started a next semester already?

      • 37.3.1 ricky trh

        Nooooooonnnnnaaaaa!!!!

        How are you?
Yep, exams ended and now I’m starting with a new semester. Everything is fine with me although trying to manage my time to fit in study time and drama time (much more important, no?) is a bit of a challenge.

Yes, I agree about the OT. I can’t stay away because it feels weird if I don’t check it.

        • 37.3.1.1 Hillary

@Ricky HRH: I am really busy … have to pack as I am relocating out of the country next Friday for at least 1 year, maybe 2, to complete an adoption. My biggest thing is that my internet speed is going from 20 mbps to 10 mbps… arg. Actually ordered 12 of my favorite dramas on dvd (MNKSS, Secret Garden, Coffee Prince, SKS, PM, etc)… yeah, I actually went and spent more than a few hundred dollars to get them legit … just in case… LOL. Actually also dreading the traveling (I have to fly back to States every 3 weeks to work out of Chicago office for a week), but expect to rack up the frequent flyer miles. At least I will still be employed… and they offered to take up cost of half internet and telephone bill.

    • 37.4 cv

Happy weekend to you Oppa! ^^

I keep hearing great things so far about I need romance2. Is it really kinda like sex in the city plus–what’s that show with Jennifer Aniston–Friends? Is it like that?
Hmm, I’ll probably marathon this sometime after all the other dramas are done airing. LOL

      • 37.4.1 ricky trh

        Hi, cv!

I know nothing about sex in the city and Friends so I can’t really compare. INR 2012 feels like a regular kdrama except it doesn’t shy away from topics like sex. Also, you get racier scenes (lots and lots and LOTS of intense kissing!). You should watch it yourself and tell me what you think afterwards.

        • 37.4.1.1 cv

          ^^ I certainly will—errr…sometime this weekend–I hope. LOL

    • 37.5 Noelle

That Fool is one of my all time favs. I always go back and watch my favorite episodes.

    • 37.6 Schmazel

I love That Fool/Accidental Couple too! I play the OST once every so often. I love the brother-sister relationship that Dong Baek and Min Ji have. :D

OT chingus, I have the bestest news to share:) I am currently visiting family in Flushing, NY and this time I was determined to get myself to a Korean restaurant (I mean, it’s Flushing, NY!), which I proceeded to do yesterday. Now, I am currently in the throes of finishing up my prospectus and was at the Queen’s Library writing (yes, the life of a PhD candidate sucks; even when on holiday I have to work:(…) when my cousin calls me and says she’s ready to accompany me on my crazy adventure (which I’d been bugging her about since I got to her house the previous day:). Books have never been abandoned that fast! We ended up at one of the restaurants which had good reviews courtesy of google (Han Joo Chik Naeng Myun & BBQ in Murray Hill) and let me tell you, my first encounter with ‘authentic’ Korean cuisine was fantastic!

We had kalbi and garlic pork belly and getting to grill the pork on what looked like a block of ice (I think it was crystal) at the table was awesome! And all the ban chan(s)! My cousin kept on asking why there was so much food on the table, ha ha ha! It was all delicious, and the atmosphere felt awesome and I was happy:) We ordered a bottle of soju (which had a picture of Lee Da Hae on the back) and I found that I really like the taste. My cousin didn’t so I ended up drinking the whole bottle by myself; all 19.7% alcohol content of it! And I had to go back to the library after that. Well chingus, I have found my writing motivator – a bottle of soju! I got in 4 hours of writing and it felt good! Problem is, I don’t know where to get soju where I live (makes note to find out).

This experience made me wish I lived in Flushing; but it’s a good thing I don’t because I’d be a very broke graduate student if I did!

Hope y’all are having a wonderful summer; mine sure is looking up:)

    • 38.1 ahjummabunny

hey I live in flushing! how long are you here for? and I always say that flushing is the best place to get korean food it’s certainly tastier and cheaper than the stuff I’ve had in manhattan.

      • 38.1.1 Shukmeister

We may need your help for a watering hole location in November. I’ve been checking restaurant reviews in Newark and nothing’s leaping at me.

JoAnne is talking day trip to Palisades Park for a bit of Hallyu Heaven while we’re there.

    • 38.2 ahjummabunny

for soju liquor store union street wine and spirits. all kinds of korean alcohol, cute guys.

      • 38.2.1 mrembo

Oh, you lucky woman you! Flushing is the best place for Korean food, in my opinion, even though I haven’t been to any other place:) Sadly, I am only here till Sunday. Next time I plan to come out will let you know and perhaps we can arrange a meet-up:)

Thanks for the liquor store information. Need to check up on airline laws about carrying alcohol in checked baggage. But I am mostly going for the cute guys (you promised!) ti hi hi:)

I made my daughter take me to a Korean BBQ place when I visited in LA. Watching KD’s does crazy things to you! BTW, I’m a fellow Cancer, too but my birthday is in July. I will be in Paris for it, so my thought is that if you’re out of the country on your birthday, you don’t have to count it! And yes, we are awesome people :)

          • 38.2.1.1.1 mrembo

Happy Birthday in advance Korazy Lady! My birthday is July 8 and I will sadly be back ‘home’ (in quotation marks because it is where I live, not where I am from:) so I will have to count it. But that’s okay because I love every birthday I am able to celebrate :)

LOL about dragging your daughter to a Korean BBQ place! I think my cousin will never let me live down how excited I was during the whole meal :)

Hooray for all the awesome Cancers on Dramabeans!

          • 38.2.1.1.2 Korazy Lady

Thanks, Mrembo! Mine’s the 18th. I’m on the cusp, which is why I think I’m more outgoing like a Leo. Since we’re leaving for Europe on the 8th, I’ll give you a Happy Birthday in advance, too :) And although I feel blessed to be able to celebrate another birthday each year, I still feel shocked when I see the number creeping up because I feel so much younger!

    • 38.3 Ivoire

Hi Mrembo, I loved your story. It was funny and you told it well :-)

      • 38.3.1 mrembo

Thanks Ivoire:) When I was younger I fancied myself a writer and was the best English subject student in my high school graduating class!

      • 38.3.2 mrembo

Oh, and Happy Belated Birthday! I always find that fellow Cancers are awesome people:)

      • 38.3.3 Ivoire

        @ Mrembo,

Thank you for the birthday wishes. I am so glad that you are having a great time in Flushing. Wow, best English subject student in your graduating class, *claps her hands and bows* I am impressed.

@ Mrembo and Korazy Lady: yes,we fellow cancers are awesome people. Korazy Lady, Happy Birthday in advance. Funny you are going to Paris. I was born there and lived there for the 1st three years of my life :-) . So based on your theory, you don’t turn a year older if you are out of the country? Just wondering…

        • 38.3.3.1 Korazy Lady

Yes, Ivoire, that is my theory! Anything to stop the ticking clock!

I studied French once upon a time, so when I quit working last year I decided to try and become fluent in it, à la Rosetta Stone and some classes. Sometimes I watch dramas on Viki with French subtitles, but it takes longer because I can’t read as quickly in French so have to pause often.

Is French your primary language and do you ever use it now? I am so envious of bilingual people!

I love your theory about birthdays outside of the country, I should adopt it :-) I would encourage you to continue to watch Korean dramas with French subs, it will help you. I do the same sometimes. The good thing with French subs is that they usually tell you when the speech is familiar or formal because French has both forms and English doesn’t, so when the switch happens in the conversation, one doesn’t know or isn’t aware of it (with English subs). I find that the sentence structure in French is a little weird (because Korean sentence structure is different, I am assuming) and I also think that the subbers might not have the time to correct their sentence structures in French. I just have to roll with it :-)

So, my first language is French, yes! But I speak 4 different languages: English, French, Spanish and Bulu (my native Cameroonian language. Cameroon has over 250 different languages). And I speak those languages fluently, really. Spanish was my major in college and I spent some time in Spain studying on two different occasions.

So, I am not trying to brag, but mainly say that languages and traveling have been a big part of my life. I am in love with the Korean language, because as a (former) singer and a lifetime linguist, I have come to appreciate how languages sound, even if I don’t understand them.

Enjoy your stay in Paris. I studied in Poitiers for 4 years (college years) before moving to the US. I was a French and Spanish tutor in college and I have been tutoring French for the past year to a High School student. I am glad to report that his grades did improve as a result of our tutoring sessions. Will you be visiting other places besides France?

          • 38.3.3.1.2 Korazy Lady

Oh, Ivoire, you are my idol! Four languages fluently – so impressive! I discovered my love of languages way too late in life to ever really master any (I have enough trouble with English! Sometimes when my sister visits and I make her speak French with me all day, the next day my English comes out all wrong! This after only one day of mangled French.) I have also picked up a little Hangul, which I’d like to pursue, and my husband wants me to learn Spanish with him. Je croix que c’est impossible, mais il est bon d’avoir un rêve, n’est pas?

We are flying to Sweden (compliments of Volvo) and picking up a new car there. Then we are driving through Denmark for 2 nights, through Northern Germany with an overnight in Bremen, then 2 nights in Amsterdam, one in Brugge and then to Paris for 4 nights. Je suis très excité d’essayer de parler français avec les Parisiens, mais je deviens très intimité et puis, j’oublie tout! (D’abord, j’ai besoin du vin :) ) If you were here I would love to have you tutor me!

Where in California are you? My daughter is the entertainment reporter for the Fox LA station so i visit LA sometimes. Are you anywhere near west LA?

          • 38.3.3.1.3 Ivoire

            Bonjour Korazy Lady,

Thank you for your kind words :-) . I started learning these languages when I was really young, so that might have helped :-) . That and the fact that I used to sing in choirs (I still sing, but just by myself). Makes you develop an ear for sound and for how words are supposed to sound like and being pronounced, makes you pay attention to the intonation etc…).
I also traveled a lot (both nationally and internationally) as a child and as a teenager, so that contributed to enhancing my curiosity (and interest) about foreign languages and cultures, which explains why I ended up studying them. I really enjoy doing that, it is like entering another world.
I totally understand your English being mangled after a day of speaking French. That happens to me in French, I tend to want to infuse it with English words that would better illustrate what I am trying to say (same happens with Spanish). I would say continue to learn your French and be diligent about it, you won’t regret it.

If you need a translation of this, please let me know, although I do think this would be a good exercise for your French :-) ).
I don’t think you learning Spanish and Korean is impossible. Don’t limit yourself. Just apply yourself, pace yourself and remember that these are lifelong goals that will require lifelong efforts :-)

From what I read about your itinerary, you will be going to a few countries during your trip. Have fun!!! (It sure sounds like fun :-) )
            * SIDE NOTE*: “To be/feel intimidated” is “Se sentir/etre intimide/e” and “Intimite” means “Intimacy” or “Privacy,” depending on the context. You wrote “intimite,” but I think you meant “intimidee,” please correct me if I am wrong.

I would have loved to be your tutor, if I lived near you or in your area. Unfortunately, I currently live in Northern CA, in San Mateo to be exact. I have a nephew who lives in LA, but no, I am no where close to West LA :-(
Maybe we will still have the opportunity to meet, one day, who knows… It is fun connecting with you. And I know, OT can be overwhelming :-) You have to develop a technique that works for you for to get through the posts. But then, look who you get to meet and connect with :-) That makes it for a rich experience with some laughs along the way, wouldn’t you say? :-)

          • 38.3.3.1.4 Korazy Lady

Merci de votre réponse! I’ll try to be quick since it is the end of the weekend (do they ever close these OT’s?)

I never mind correction – usually it will stick in my mind better. So yes, I did mean intimidée (I think it was a typo because I also have trouble with the French keyboard, but at any rate I forgot the extra “e”.) From now on I will be extra careful when using those words. Kind of like when I accidentally said–to a guy, no less– “Je vais vous monter” instead of “je vais vous montrer”. You can be sure I will never get those words mixed up again! But what is life if we can’t laugh at ourselves :)

I am the worst at writing in French, with understanding what I’m reading being the easiest, and I am happy to say that I only had to look up one word – eprouve.

As far as our paths crossing – I’ve had crazier things happen in my life, so who knows. Is there a way to get your email or give you mine? That way we could correspond occasionally without having to bore everyone else on here!

Have a good week! I’m off to check if episode 12 of AGD is subbed yet :)

          • 38.3.3.1.5 Ivoire

            @ Korazy Lady,

I hope you will get this message. No need to worry because the OTs do not get closed. I think anything that was ever posted on Dramabeans since its inception is accessible, you just have to look for it or go back to the very first post (the one with the highest #). You can also do a word/name search here, but that doesn’t always work for me.
Some of us write on the OT until the next Thursday of the following week. I have written way past the previous week and I have seen people do that with the recaps as well. They post comments one, two or more years later, if they are commenting on a drama they are currently watching or an article they happen to read. You should navigate the site and get yourself better acquainted, you might be surprised. Just know that anything you write on a blog stays, unless the people who handle DB deem it too offensive/inappropriate, in which case it gets deleted or altered, understandably so.

You can write to me at: amvondo1@gmail.com. I would love to hear from you and practice my French as well. Do you get Viki.com, if you do, AGD is already subbed (100%) there, episode 12.

I am glad you took my correction well, that is how you learn. I love the story about “je vais vous monter,” I would have died of embarrassment, did you? :-) and yeah, that would be a good way to not make that mistake again :-)

I look forward to hearing from you or you could give me your email here if you feel comfortable doing so. I have given my email here once and nothing bad happened as a result of it. I actually met the lady and we went to the Kpop Google concert in Mountain View that day (she came to pick me up, which was really nice :-) )

Bonne fin de semaine et a bientot :-) !

          • 38.3.3.1.6 Korazy Lady

Got it, Ivoire! You will definitely hear from me, although it may be some time in the future since I’m so busy getting ready for the trip, etc. If I have time, I may check into next week’s OT before I leave.

            A bientot! :)

  39. 39 Marika

I just started watching a short drama from 2011 called White Christmas (aka: Monster). Has anyone else here watched it?

    • 39.1 whimsyful

I have! It was pretty much my favorite drama last year, because I loveee mysteries/psych thrillers. How far are you and what do you think so far?

      • 39.1.1 Marika

Well when I say I JUST started, I really mean just. XD I’ve only seen the first episode so far, but I really like it at this point. I thought it would be interesting to watch a psychological thriller type drama. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen many people who have watched it, so I haven’t gotten to see what many people think of it. I’m glad to hear that you liked it so much!

        • 39.1.1.1 Shukmeister

Let me jump on the WC bandwagon! Whimsyful recc’d it, I watched it, I loved it!

          • 39.1.1.1.1 Twinkles

Loved it as well, great story, cast, everything was well done.

    • 39.2 JoAnne

Oh, there are some big, BIG fans of WC on the OT. A lot of us have seen it, and then happily gone on to watch our WC boys in TONS of other stuff over the last year. Mystery Boy is the brother in Big, Mad Mireu is in AGD, Sung Joon was in SUFBB and so was the deaf kid, Angel Gabriel was in Vampire Idol…Hot Teacher was in RTP, too. It’s a great story but those are some really talented kids, too.

      • 39.2.1 Marika

The first thing I noticed when I started watching the drama was that he was the brother from Big, which made me really happy. I always love when I recognize actors from a drama I’ve previously seen. XD
I’m glad to see it has so many fans. :D

    • 39.3 Hillary

@Marika: I have heard about it on OT but haven’t watch. I need a short drama over the weekend (my last weekend in States for a while) to break the monotony of shopping and packing. Think this may be it.

      • 39.3.1 Marika

Oooh, you should definitely watch it then. It’s only 8 episodes. I’m only one the second episode right now, but I really like it so far. :)

  40. 40 whimsyful

    Happy OT everyone!

I’ve started watching Once Upon a Time in Saengchori after getting some reccs in the last OT. I’m really liking it so far! Love the blend of mystery, slice of life office comedy and romcom. Unfortunately I’m also suffering from second lead syndrome — I like the main dude and all but secondary guy is so awesome and funny!

As far as other stuff, I’m still enjoying Gaksital.

    • 40.1 ahjummabunny

      isn’t ji min awesomeeeee!!!!!!

  41. 41 kewbie

    Happy Friday, All!

Nothing much going on here. Had to take one of my kids to an appointment, went grocery shopping and here I am at Dramabeans OT! Tomorrow is my husband’s birthday and I did the geek thing and bought him a new solid state hard drive because he’s been wanting one for I don’t know how long…hehe. Other than that I’ve been trying to keep up with the dramas I’m watching, but it’s a bit hard lately. I think I’ve been getting too lazy to watch. I’m sure that won’t last long, though. ;-) Right now on my drama-watching list is:

    I Do, I Do
    A Gentleman’s Dignity
    Big
    Dr. Jin

    Been trying to get into:

    Sungkyungkwan Scandal
    My Girlfriend is a Gumiho

I also heard that Viki is going to get Twelve Men in a Year, which I’ve been meaning to watch, and also Shut Up: Flower Boy Band, which I watched already, but I can’t wait to see the Viki comments on that!

Other than that, I think I’ve gotten sucked into the ELF fandom (thanks, Favorite-Only-Daughter!) because I’ve been keeping up with all the Super Junior 6th album updates. I admit, though, it has been easier to follow them since I found out that Donghae will be in that drama Panda and Hedgehog. So yes, I’m not in it for the acting, as much as I’m in it for the cuties that are Donghae and Yoon Seung Ah. Loved her ever since Playful Kiss, and especially Moon Embracing the Sun.

Other than that, I’m spending a few days in Hilton Head next month, so I’m looking forward to that. Hopefully it won’t be too scorching hot on the beach. I don’t want to end up like cooked bacon.

That’s it for now. Will check back later. Hope you all are doing well!

    • 41.1 LingLing

Oh my the ELF fandom is definitely an interesting group. Have you listened to any other Suju songs? I can’t judge the new song until it’s out, but it kind of sounds like remixes of the previous title songs, sadly….

Hope you have fun at the beach! :D

  42. 42 JoAnne

    Greetings, My Wondrous Beans!

It’s hot hot hot here in sunny CT on the ocean, today. I went in to work really early. REALLY EARLY. And then I went to a good bye luncheon (not for me), and now I’m home. I may check email in a bit but otherwise, it’s the weekend pour moi! Yay!

I need to catch up on Gaksital’s current week episodes, INR2′s current week episodes, and Big’s current week episodes (I think, or does that air on the weekend…) And I can’t wait for AGD this weekend. God, I love that show.

I dunno, not much else going on. It’s hot, I’m full. I don’t feel like talking, I feel like sleeping. I think I’ll go put on not-work clothes and lay in front of the fan for a sec, and dream that BB tickets went on sale for Newark and we got front row.

    • 42.1 JoAnne

By not work clothes really I just mean I need to get out of this damn BRA. I’m wearing an engineering marvel today because of the shirt I have on, and it’s not comfortable.

Sorry Ricky, sorry new guy Lang, sorry John. Oh! Happy Birthday John! Happy Birthday Iv, too!

BunnyLove, ARE you going to meet up with us in Newark if this concert thing goes through? I know you don’t intend to do the concert.

Alua – I favorited your link to the snail thing and will read that this weekend, thank you!

      • 42.1.1 ahjummabunny

joanne are you a front loader! I definitely want to meet you guys. I think prindley is thinking of it too. I hope it will happen.

        • 42.1.1.1 JoAnne

Yes she’s thinking you two could maybe meet up for the train out of the city.

          • 42.1.1.1.1 Shukmeister

I just want to find a good restaurant in Newark; if not, I’m proposing light rail from NJ to The City for our fan(girl)meeting.

      • 42.1.2 Lang

Lol… When you said ” Get out of this damn Bra”, I was seeing Ji-Ah in the episode where she does the i believe I can fly manouever .

You made my day at work !

        • 42.1.2.1 Ivoire

LOL, Lang, you silly you :-) Good visual though, thanks for that!

        • 42.1.2.2 JoAnne

          Glad I could…help.

I feel that I should make this clear, as a public service: I IN NO WAY resemble Ji Ah

          • 42.1.2.2.1 ricky trh

            Because you’re more awesome!

          • 42.1.2.2.2 JoAnne

And this is why I love my Oppa the best :)

      • 42.1.3 Korazy Lady

A concert in Newark? Who, when, where? Not trying to jump in on your party, but maybe I could talk my niece into going with me just for the experience (for me – she could care less!)

As this is my first time on the OT, I find it kind of overwhelming! Step away for a few hours and there are hundreds more comments. All for the good KD cause, of course!

        • 42.1.3.1 ahjummabunny

the concert isn’t that important, what’s important is the possible dinner date between the dramabeaners.

          • 42.1.3.1.1 Korazy Lady

haha. Well, if some cute Korean idol boys were there, it would be the icing on the cake!

          • 42.1.3.1.2 Korazy Lady

So do you guys actually have east coast/west coast meet-ups? I can’t imagine being with more than one fellow drama lover at a time (especially since I only know one other one – my sister!) It seems like a pretty tight group on here – does it count if I feel as if I know everyone from lurking for so long? :)

          • 42.1.3.1.3 JoAnne

People do meet from time to time – some of the left coasters went to the big Google concert, and Raine is in London for a wedding so she’s going to hope over to Paris and meet up with Mysti, and possibly Alua? And there’s a CRAP TON of us hoping for Big Bang – me, Cherkell, Shukmeister, CV, I know there’s others but I’m still groggy. That’s the one JB, GF, and HN2 are hoping to attend so we even hope to meet them and fangirl in person a little bit. We do an occasional Movie Night on the OT thread where we all watch the same movie (streaming) and make comments – that came about purely by chance but the Movie Noonas are well established by now, LOL. I’m sure there’ve been other meetings in person and I know some of the OTers know each other in real life to begin with, but these are the things I know for sure.

        • 42.1.3.2 cv

It’s BigBang! Newark on Nov.9. Suks that tickets are not on sale yet. (ladies—let’s keep our fingers cross that we get tickes! lol)

          • 42.1.3.2.1 Shukmeister

I keep checking every day – still nothing on the tix. I need final headcount too, but that’ll be part of the twitter follow up.

        • 42.1.3.3 JoAnne

Big Bang, Nov 9th. We’re waiting impatiently for tickets to go on sale. And of course you’re welcome!

          • 42.1.3.3.1 Korazy Lady

Oh, thank you for welcoming me, Joanne! I’m from the Philly area so that is something I would totally do (even though my kids would deny any knowledge of me if they knew). Do the tickets usually sell out quickly?

Someday I would definitely like meeting some east coasters and also some LAers as one of my daughters lives there. And a Paris group? I’ll be there in two weeks, but I’m sure my husband would think I’ve gone off the deep end if I say I want to meet some people from my KD message board while I’m there! But it’s something to keep in mind for next year when my sister and I have a France trip planned.

Also, where are these movies live-streamed and in what time zone? Not that I need to put anything else in my overloaded to watch schedule :) But it can be pretty lonely in KD land all by myself, so I appreciate DB immensely.

          • 42.1.3.3.2 JoAnne

Korazy, if it’s going to to be a Noona night we post the time and the movie and where to find it in the OT. Generally a Saturday and for you it would be sometime between 9:30 and 10 pm to start, to accommodate the lefties.

          • 42.1.3.3.3 Korazy Lady

Thanks, Joanne. Oh, to be a noona – lol! I will keep a lookout for the movie night, but I have to say trying to follow this OT is making me bleary-eyed – kind of like marathoning.

Shukmeister, I would love to do the concert. I can contact you on your web page to give you my twitter name. If I ever have some free time between IDID, Big, AGD & INR2, I plan to read your story!

          • 42.1.3.3.4 Shukmeister

Thanks, Korazy! I usually tweet any BigBang updates or lack thereof as I’m checking at least once a day for the tix. I’m trying to get a block of them in a decent area.

The fanfic is 80-something chapters of 500 words/chapter. If you read it, don’t look at the character list until the end (contains spoilers).

            Have a good one!

      • 42.1.4 Ivoire

@ JoAnne, thank you for the Birthday wishes :-) !

    • 42.2 Lainey

SOOOO jealous, coming from a gloomy, rainy, cold Melbourne, on the contrary, I’m so cold that makes me just want to spend time cuddle up and watch more dramas!! Why AGD isn’t on yet? I’ll just catchup on my Running Man episodes while I’m at it. (and it’s not even drama).

  43. 43 LingLing

Okay, I’m new to commenting here and stuff. But I just need to like need someone to talk to about for the drama, Ghost!!!

so I just finished watching episode 10 of Ghost, and I’m like NOOOOOOOOO. I can’t believe it went there, even though I totally knew something was going to happen to the last evidence… So upset that there is no preview at all.

So anyone here actually watching Ghost? Cause it seems like it’s not a really popular drama, but so far out of the dramas I’m watching: Big, I Need Romance 2012 and A Gentleman’s Dignity; Ghost has got to be my favorite one. Maybe I’m getting sick and tired of just rom-com. Lol. I like all the dramas I’m watching so far, but something is just lacking. Maybe the excitement and the suspense? Even though I love AGD a lot, but it’s slowing down, especially with the last two episodes…

Big is losing it’s steam for me, too. It’s cute and all, but I don’t know, it’s not captivating me as much. I Need Romance 2012, well it’s hard to judge at the moment, but the main girl is kind of too quirky for my liking. Oh wells.

    • 43.1 alua

I haven’t watched Ghost but wanted to just welcome you here.

Lots of newbie commenters today! Yay! The more the merrier! :-)

      • 43.1.1 LingLing

Aww thank you for welcoming me! That’s sweet of you :) I actually never knew what these open thread were about. Until today. Haha.

    • 43.2 ahjummabunny

aw man! I wish I was watching ghost so I can go nooo with you. I’ll start it tonight and come back tomorrow and noo properly, okay?

      • 43.2.1 LingLing

Will you be able to watch 10 episodes in one day?! O_O Cause I will definitely have to praise you if you are able to! Even though my mom did that with RTP last week… Lol.

Hooray! You should definitely watch Ghost though if you are into like solving cases and stuff. I just really like crime shows. XD

        • 43.2.1.1 ahjummabunny

what are you talking about! how can I not finish 10 episodes from say, 8pm tonight until tomorrow! I hope it’s good.

          • 43.2.1.1.1 LingLing

Cause I usually can’t sit through that long of a time in watching a drama. If I watch like 8-9 episodes in a row, I get tired of watching the drama. So I like to just watch like one or two a day. I know I’m weird. Lol

          • 43.2.1.1.2 JoAnne

It’s on my list to watch but I can’t start it yet.

    • 43.3 kopytko

      Welcome!
I had been looking forward to Ghost for a long time, actually several episodes in the beginning were a bit… not what I like? But now I am satisfied and can’t wait for more.
Unfortunately I live in a wrong region and episode 10 is not yet available here *frustrated*

      • 43.3.1 LingLing

        Thank you for the welcome!

Awwws, why didn’t you like the episodes in the beginning? And gahhh, hope you are able to watch Episode 10 soon! And maybe you can spaz or tell me all about the frustration D:

        • 43.3.1.1 kopytko

You know, after a well-paced ep9 I watched yesterday I went to sleep all giddy. What is going to happen?, I was wondering. When I woke up this morning I thought – at 9 am it should be there. So I had breakfast and started doing my stuff. I couldn’t really concentrate, the clock was telling me tu turn on my comp. And what do I get? Nothing. No Ghost 10, No INR2 4… I am afraid I’ll get to see white mice soon ;)

    • 43.4 Hillary

@LingLing: I really like Ghost. I just wished they had used Choi Daniel for more episodes than they did. I have to watch yesterday’s episode … now I can’t wait to get home and watch … off work in 15 minutes, PTL.

    • 43.5 cv

Welcome to OT! So many new newcomers! That is awsome! The more the merrier! :)

I’m one of the many Ghost fans in here! ^_^ I have not seen ep 10 all the way. I started watching on viki yesterday but all the parts in the beginning was not subtitled all the way so I stopped. Maybe I’ll continue it tonight. :D

Anyone who hasnt’ seen Ghost, should definitely give it a try. ^^

    • 43.6 ricky trh

      Ling Ling, welcome!
Your name reminds me of a very good :)

I like your tumble, by the way.
“Single and forever alone” LOL I could relate to that!

    • 43.7 ahjummabunny

I don’t know if it’s because I added an adblocker ( I feel quite like I’m stealing) that I can’t get on viki or dramafever tonight. I can only noooo at the problem loading page message, grrr!

      • 43.7.1 JoAnne

I have adblocker and don’t generally have a problem but I do know that a lot of websites were knocked out by a bad storm in the VA/DC/Metro area last night.

    • 43.8 ahjummabunny

      nooohhhhh!!!! chuginda!
well it’s partially my fault too for agreeing to watch a live show!!! Man Alive! Now I have to wait with you to see what will happen instead of comfortably watching the episodes 1 after another. In any case this one is really good. I really loved the first 2 episodes and I’m showing self restraint by waiting until next week to watch episodes 9 and 10. I do have many shows on my plate so I will just ignore ghost. I’m ignoring it.

    • 44.1 LingLing

      * Fashion King – good lord, i don’t know why i even watched til ep 11. but that was a bunch of mess of a drama. Lucky that you stayed away from it.

      * A Thousand Kisses – I survived through like 10 episodes and had to call the quits to it….

      * Dream High 2 – I actually survived through it. Definitely not my favorite. But I liked the songs. Haha.

I don’t know why I make myself watch some really bad dramas, but I just seem to do. Maybe I don’t like to follow the popular trend or opinion. Lol. I like to judge a drama by seeing it for myself than listening to others.

      • 44.1.1 Hillary

@LingLing: I tend to stay away if it is not recommended. Or at least, let it end its run and watch the last episode, which will let me know if it makes sense to invest my time and limited resources (against the better judgement of my OT peers) in a drama. If it ends up in death of one of the OTP partners; forget it. Open endings … depends on the acting. Bad acting … forget it. Makjung and crying … forget it.

Unfortunately, like you, I tend to stay with a drama (even if it is horrible) until the end, so I like to minimize the shock to my system as much as possible… LOL. I think the only ones that I stopped watching was that trainwreck, Color of Woman (I stopped watching on episode 9), and Dream High (I stopped watching on episode 2). I wished I never started CoW, it still gives me nightmares.

        • 44.1.1.1 LingLing

HAHAHHAHAH Color of Woman, omg I stopped at Episode 9, too! It was horrifying. It started off with a good concept and all, but then…. it just got bad. And more bad.

          • 44.1.1.1.1 Mystisith

COW is not a sticky drama. It’s a slimy drama.

          • 44.1.1.1.2 cv

LOL I didn’t like COW either. stopped at the first few eps and then waited until the last eps to watch. Wasn’t all that—started off okay…then went downhill.

      • 44.1.2 JBB

The Viki comments on the last part of the last episode are pretty funny. Everyone wanted their time back. LOL

I watched “Once upon A Time In SangChori”.
    Wonderful! Clever writing.
    Humor, Romance & Mystery.
I kept having to revise my guesses on the who-dunit.

I watched the rest of “Switch Girl. Finally.
    It was juvenile, but funny.

Still thinking about “What Happened in Bali”
This one is going to stay with me for a while.

    Can’t wait for “A Gentleman’s Dignity”
    Love this show.

Also waiting impatiently for the next episode of “Big”

I just started watching “Idol Army” which I thought was hillarious. And I am watching “We Got Married” with JoKwon and GaIn.

Totally NOT into “I Do I Do”…. The lead female turns me off.

And Running Man Episode 100 was good as always, but I think it’s losing a little bit of steam.

    • 45.1 John

I’ll have to check out the rest of Switch Girl.

All this discussion about I Need Romance 2 reminds me of Director Jung Ji Woo, who basically discovered Jung Yumi. Has anyone here seen Eungyo (Muse), Director Jung Ji Woo’s latest film, starring Park Hae Il, Kim Go Eun and Kim Mu Yeol? It has its flaws, and several parts of the film annoy me to no end, but I did find myself thinking about it a lot after watching it. (Warning, it’s pretty sexually explicit.) I think I’m going to read the book now, because there were several poetic lines in the script that probably came from the novel. Anyways, I’d recommend watching it just for KIM FREAKING GO EUN, forget about Park Hae Il, lol. Director Jung Ji Woo has discovered yet another amazing rookie actress. Kim Go Eun’s the main reason I find myself continuing to mull over the film, as well as the beautiful cinematography. Her performance was mesmerizing, and has been compared to Jeon Do Yeon’s.

But yes, like I said, I have major beef with several facets of the film. Mainly, the fact that it was directed by a male, and written by a male, so basically, the creative result of male fantasy. And therefore Eungyo’s character ends up being an idealization of the forever virgin, shrouded by the feminine mystique, the object of fascination for the two male characters. Bleh, I wish that she had faults, to make her more realistic, and I wanted to see things from her perspective, too. And I found myself extremely irritated with the ending, when MAJOR SPOILER Eungyo basically finds out someone did something really horrible out of his jealous love for her, and her response is simply something to the effect of, “I didn’t know I was that desirable.” Da f***?? She basically thanks him for his horrible deed because it showed her that she could inspire such desperate acts. Having her thank him seems like a male justification for Jeokyo’s wrongdoings and his (deemed by society) inappropriate lust for a minor… Dude, if this was written by a woman, that wouldn’t have been Eungyo’s response. Horror and revulsion should have been her initial reaction. However, I get that this film is about more than lust, but about aging and the desire for youth, and the moral quandaries about which desires are acceptable at a certain age, and the film did make me ponder over the questions it raised. I mean, is it a crime for old people to still have passion? It’s all too understandable why Jeokyo would want to cling onto youth. All in all, in spite of the domineering male perspective, something about the film ends up lingering in one’s thoughts. I hope someone has seen it so we can discuss it~~

Oh my! you skipped kimchi family!! you should give it another try. lol
I thought this was a pretty good drama mixed with foods! hehe It is a slower pace drama(writing for each characters was well done) but oh, the food, the acting, the scenery–awsome! I loved it! I would watch it again on a raining day.

      • 47.1.1 isnin

Why did I drop watching “Kimchi Family” after episode 5??I think I had too many dramas on my plate at the time.
I’ll probably pick it up where I left off rather than rewatch the first 5 eps again.

I remember that I also ended up dropping Flower Boy Vegetable Store at the same time (I know I probably got the title wrong)It was becasue of my hatred for the chaebol family story line and I could not stand the MOM in the story.

I really liked PASTA and Hungry! But that’s mostly because I cannot resist food porn.

KIMCHI FAMILY gets moved to my plan to watch list again.
        =) Thanks for the recommend.

        • 47.1.1.1 Kim Yoonmi

I love food porn, but makjang adoption stories make me gag, causing severe allergies… *sighs* Why do I keep hoping K-dramas will get over making adoption 100% makjang?

          Kimchi Family got skipped.

          • 47.1.1.1.1 ahjummabunny

there is only one adoption story in fermentation family and that’s quite in the last few episodes and it was an equally touching story about acceptance and forgiveness.

        • 47.1.1.2 cv

I’m glad you are going to pick up kimchi family again. :) You won’t regret. hehhe

BVS—I hated the mom too. LOL I hated that storyline…would have loved to just see about the bachelors achievement in getting their store open, etc but nope, they have to go the other way-makjang. I stayed and watched the rest of the drama because of JCW. ^-^ Would I watch this again? Nope…maybe look at the pics of all the bachelors–you betcha! :D

I’ve been reading DB for weeks now, but this is the first OT I’ve read and I’m so happy I did! Just finished a long shift at work and this OT made me smile :) and gave me some ideas of what to watch next! Just finished Dr.Champ (an old one, but still good…best bromance ever in it!!) Thanks for a nice end to a long day!!
