Good news and bad. The Good: The first teaser for summer spook drama Arang and the Magistrate is out, and it looks awesome. The Bad: We’ve been waiting on pins and needles already, but MBC has pushed the premiere back three weeks, so we’ll have to wait that much longer to see Shin Mina and Lee Jun-ki in action. Dramaland giveth, and dramaland taketh away.
Originally slated for late July, Arang was set to follow I Do, I Do and compete against Gaksital and Ghost in the tight Wednesday-Thursday ratings game. Not the ideal situation you want to launch your drama into. So it’s probably a godsend that they’ve had to delay the broadcast due to the Olympics. Rather than deal with preempted shows and all that chaos, MBC will just be holding Arang until the games are over.
It’s really a win-win for the production, because now they have three extras weeks to get more episodes in the can, and have fewer weeks in which to go up against Gaksital. Not to mention that fewer overlapping weeks with the masked crusader also means more sanity for us. And we’re always running low on that stuff around here.
The teaser makes me even more excited for what’s to come — humor, action, romance and mystery, topped off with even more funny. Shin Mina’s Arang looks like a ghost who has fun with her job, (Well you’re not much of a ghost if you’re not spooking the locals and building up some lore.) and she seems just as brash in the romance department as her gumiho was. Love it. Can you blame a girl for wanting to haunt the new flower boy magistrate in town? Gah, just when my excitement’s gaining momentum, I have to reset the clock.
Arang and the Magistrate now premieres Wednesday August 15. The countdown begins now. Are we there yet?

It just came back to me how much I utterly LOVE Lee Jun Ki. How could I have forgotten? This looks like it will be gorgeous. I know I’m probably in the minority but I prefer my sageuks and ghost stories to be heavier on the drama than on the comedy — I hope this show will balance the two well.
I’M SO EXCITED!!!! (p.s. count me as one who does not mind the date being pushed back. I already have way too many shows on my hands and this will give me time to finish them so I can give my full attention to Arang. Yay!)

Okay, the teaser just sealed the deal. I’m watching this one just because Shin Mina seems to be one badass ghost in all aspects. Sooo many premiers to look forward to in the next two months though…

With another month we can avoid weird scheduling from the olympics, they’ll have more time for filming and writing, so less worry about the story taking a nosedive thanks to the live-shoot system.
Yeah. When I look at it objectively, I’m actually glad. But when I don’t… ANOTHER MONTH??
That aside, I love the teaser. Is it too early for my victory dance? A little bit? Okay, then, I guess it’ll hold a little longer, but watch out ’cause I’m gonna be all over the place if this lives up to my (skyscraper high) expectations. If not… I’ll still be all over the place, but as a puddle of tears instead of a dancing machine.

Based on the snippets, have to agree.
A bit overexaggerated and not natural like in MGIAG or Shina Min ah’s other romcoms.
But I guess we’ll see how it is (hope the PD isn’t going for an overexaggerated = funny thing like so many PDs do).
It occurs to me that I’ve never seen Shin Mina as herself angry on camera. How do we know that nasty face isn’t her REAL angry look? And the other might be how she actually looks pimp-slapping her agent for slipping a million off her last CF contract?
