Happy OT Friday, Beans-A-Lots! Hope this end-of-the-week finds you all happy and healthy! And yes, I’m already at work. You need to ask? :P

Sorry I haven’t been around much; this trial is sucking out what little soul I have left in my tired and beaten body (emphasis on the ‘sucking’ part). Here’s a little Trial 101 primer for those who are confused: Since I’ve pretty much been involved on the defense side of litigation most of my life, having to switch to a plaintiff’s world turns everything into MUCH harder work — the case is built upon the ‘burden of proof’ that a litigant brings to the courtroom. If you can’t fully prove your evidence at the outset of a trial, then the defendants can make a motion to dismiss the action as soon as you’ve presented your case-in-chief. Which has happened with two defendants now… but the judge dismissed the motions for lack of standing. Yay! Two ‘wins’ so far, but the finish line is still a long way off. In my 30+ years of being a legal beagle, this is the longest trial I’ve ever been involved in — 41 days and counting, not to mention the weeks and weeks preparing for this bad boy. And we keep on rolling along…

Haven’t been watching much of anything except the insides of my eyelids when time allows. “Five Fingers” is slowly ramping up in speed, with the poster shots being taken on Tuesday and SBS to open their website sometime next week. (I really need to talk to their stylist, though — dressing My Precious in a royal blue checked suit? ARE YOU BLIND?!?) And I am fortunate that I’ve got help from the Joo Ji Hoon Fandom on the Soompi board this time around — with BVS, I felt like the lone voice in the wilderness since hardly anyone was watching. I’ve even dug up my long-buried blog and will be recapping this beast once SBS figures out if they’re going to delay AGD because of their Olympic coverage. Hmpf.

And speaking of AGD, the prologue for Episode 16 absolutely killed me. Sobbing-uncontrollably-in-the-middle-of-the-office killed me. Good thing it was a Sunday and not a lot of people were around. I doubt that a two-week hiatus for them is going to kill the massive buzz this show has garnered; if anything, the production could use a nice little vacation (and not have their own scriptwriter collapse, arraso?). Don’t worry, F4… I’ll be waiting at the gate with a nice pair of shoes for each of you. :)

Alright, enough of this fooling around. I need to pack up and head down to the courthouse soon (and get out of here before my certifiably-insane supervisor arrives as well). Hugs and kisses and see you all laters!!

Haha! Cherkell, you crack me up with viewing your eyelids thing. :)

      Good morning Cherkell,

Hope you are well, in spite of being very busy. So sad, what happened in CO, so very sad indeed… I hope your day will go somewhat smoothly and that you will have a good weekend.

  2. cherkell

Oh, and I forgot to add… our hearts and prayers are with the people of Aurora, Colorado after that massive shooting earlier this morning. Sad… just so sad… :(

    • 2.1 Leaf

Urgg… this is so rediculously depressing everytime I hear something like this.

I wait for the day when the US has sensible gun regulations so innocent people are not hurt by crazies :(

      • 2.1.1 ahjummabunny

nae mareul! but it will never happen guns are big bucks and those big bucks back washington.

      • 2.1.2 Laeah

Guns don’t kill people. People kill people.
There is no way to predict this stuff. This guy had no record and did this.
But that doesn’t mean that 80million gun owners should be forced to suffer for what psychos do.

        • 2.1.2.1 ahjummabunny

but why do you need to own a gun? if no one owns a gun you don’t need to protect yourself from people with guns. The change in us gun policy could be like our semi-nhs policy: select groups can own use guns for a specific time each year (hunting season).
I’ve never seen someone shot in real life but even on film it’s disturbing.

          • 2.1.2.1.1 Leaf

I was gonna keep out of this a I learnt my lesson but…

If there are lots of guns around then crazy people are gonna be able to get them. Especially in the US where it is easy for them too.
If there aren’t lots of guns then it is harder for them.
Lack of guns doesn’t stop crazy people killing innocents. This is why the UK has a serious knife crime problem.
But a knife is nowhere near as deadly as a gun.
You can’t walk into a room with a knife and murder everyone in a minute. You can stap 2 or 3 but that is vastly preferable to 40 or 50 (see Uni and school shoots which happen all the time in the US) and also it is much easier to protect yourself against a knife.

Anyway I really need to shut up and keep out of this stuff…

And also the day America gets even a semi NHS system (Full would be better but I accept it will take time for the crazies to die and therefore shut up) will be one of the greatest days in world history. It would be even better if it had come 5/6 years ago so my Mum’s Uni friend wouldn’t have had to die but there’s no use thinking that…

          • 2.1.2.1.2 shel

The constitution guarantees us the right to bear arms. the people who use them for stuff like this rarely have them legally. If they can get them illegally now, they will STILL be able to get them illegally after they’ve taken away the average American’s right to have them.

I do have guns, we enjoy skeet shooting, etc (although I’m a terrible shot, lol). One of my rifles belonged to my grandfather. I’m hoping I never have to use it for anything other than target practice, but I worry when people start messing with constitutional rights.

          • 2.1.2.1.4 Leaf

            @Shel

The UK ‘constitution’ would be that the UK was an absolute monarchy if it hadn’t been changed and as much as I support and love the monarchy I wouldn’t say that was a good thing.

And even using US examples if the Constitution had never been changed then Women would not have gained the right to vote. Giving Black people and other ethnic minorites the vote could have been done for males as race was never specifically mentioned orginally but would have been much harder to inforce.
I’m sure there are other changes that can be used to show this as well.

So basicall a document written over 200 years ago should not be considered binding now. Because people have moved on.
That doesn’t mean it should totally be scrapped. Thats stupid. But it shouldn’t be considered the be all end all.

          • 2.1.2.1.5 shel

But I still consider the items in the “bill of rights” to be basic rights that shouldn’t be messed with.

          • 2.1.2.1.6 Sethe

Hi Shel — good to see you again!

I usually know pretty much where I stand on political/social issues, but I have to admit, gun control confuses me.

In Montana and North Dakota, where I spent most of my childhood, gun ownership is EXTREMELY common… as we got older, lots of kids would take vacation from school for the opening of hunting season, for example.

(As a vegetarian, the idea of hunting is disgusting to me, but I accept that many humans eat meat, and that meat has to be killed somehow, and hunting is no more repulsive than slaughterhouses, I suppose.)

I was just talking about this issue with some work colleagues, and they both said that if people want to hunt, they should use their bare hands, or bows and arrows, or traps… (It might possibly be relevant that one of the books we just read at my school was The Hunger Games :) )

Anyway… I guess part of me is sympathetic to the idea of people being able to have a gun if they want it, for whatever (legal) reason, but I also think it’s true that the easy availability of guns does make a variety of situations more likely to become lethal (suicide, homicide, psychotic people having an easily available instrument to use to act on their disordered thoughts…). [Case in point: liberal cause celebre Trayvon Martin's shooting.]

          • 2.1.2.1.7 Shiku

I agree with you ahjummabunny. The world would be a much better place if there were no guns or there was stricter gun control laws.

‘Guns don’t kill people. People kill people.’ T

          • 2.1.2.1.8 Shiku

My comment got cut. Anyway even if it’s true that guns don’t kill people, it is still a very dangerous weapon that can take a life in a second. It doesn’t give you time to think over your actions.

There was a study that showed even if one had a gun in chaotic situation like Columbine, chances are you wouldn’t even hit the perpetrator. You are more likely to hit other innocent bystanders or kill yourself than the criminal. This is because people who aren’t used to high pressure situations do not know how to react and how to steady their arms and aim at a moving target. This is why police officers are always required to undergo training all the time so that when they are ins such a situation, they are calm and know what to do.

In short, guns should be left in the hands of professionals and not other civilians.

          • 2.1.2.1.9 shel

Hi, Sethe. Long time no talk to.

Yeah, I was gonna stay out of this argument. But I still maintain that the crazies will find a way to get them regardless of how many amendments we make to the constitution. It’s just not that hard, especially since we have among the easiest borders in the world to cross (smuggling drugs/guns/what not). You make them illegal and it just makes more money for the guys doing the smuggling….who are funding the true crazies: gun runners and drug kingpins.

Now, I’m gonna bow out of this one, I’m not gonna change your mind and you’re not gonna change mine, so we have to just respectfully agree to disagree. :0) I love my OT chingus and don’t want to start a war…

My prayers are with the families of those who died in Colorado….

I fully agree with this statement as some things need to be changed to be relevant in this present time.

          • 2.1.2.1.11 Sethe

            Hey Shel!

So great to talk to you again! Hope all is well :)

I meant to make the point that I’m not entirely sure where I stand on gun control, not that I completely disagree with you, but maybe I wasn’t clear enough. (And yeah, I learned through quite painful experience that you won’t bring someone around to your point of view on these types of issues through argument… even after more than 10 years, my grandpa and I still haven’t really reconciled after some stupid political argument we had that got all blown out of proportion.)

In other news, our Mitt’s not been having a very good week. Do you think he’ll release more tax returns?

          • 2.1.2.1.12 Sethe

I’ll just say one more thing (I think) on this topic.

Based on my (admittedly brief) experience as a psychiatrist, I don’t think truly psychotic people would be as easily able to get guns if they were illegal. Genuinely psychotic people aren’t (again, in my experience) the type of people who can make the kinds of plans and connections necessary to make the kinds of contacts needed to supply illegal guns (or drugs, or whatever). They’re the type who will obtain a gun by walking into the local Walmart, or whatever, and buying one there.

          • 2.1.2.1.13 colors

If you suddenly declare something illegal when it was always somehow easy to get, people will turn to black market and so one and so forth. But one of the reasons for the thing to have been legal all that while, despite being destructive or dangerous for oneself or others, is usually because of money.
More generally, one other reason is because when you try and radically change laws, people get divided between old habits and “we’ve always done things that way and it’s always been fine even if they were problems from time to time”, and others who will be radical and trying to impose their views on others.
Depending on each case, you can be on one side or another: conservative for things you like and are used to or liberal (? opponent to?) about ideas and “evil” things you hate.

Guns are just one thing on the list of ever lasting problems. (People they ain’t no good… that’s why art and popular culture (including TV shows) are here for, right? =D)

        • 2.1.2.2 redfox

people kill people cause they are humans and we do rotten things as well. we are not able to stop ourselves sometimes. the crime to be human, it is the worst crime. no law guarantees people only do the right things. it is a choice.

        • 2.1.2.3 Kiara

I agree Leah. Norway has one of the toughest gun control laws and guess what?. Last year this Breivik psycho went on a shooting spree killing 77 people and his only regrets was that he didnt go further (kill more).
I’m not going to stop living because of these psychos. I love movies and I will go watch my movies.

I wish the media would stop talking about this freaking psycho and focus more on helping the victims.

      • 2.1.3 zgznoona

I wasn’t going to get into this discussion
It is true that the constitution guarantees the right to bear arms but it us anachronistic. It was written in a time when there was no police or army, hence people had to protect themselves from danger and also were needed if they were to be called for war. But in the current USA, there is not need for that article whatsoever, and ion reality only increases the risk of danger rather than protect the citizens

        • 2.1.3.1 Leaf

Once again reading this whole discussion I am stuck by the fact that if the Dramabeans Family ran the world it would be such a better place. Really it is rare to find people as awesome as all of you lot are in real life <3

        • 2.1.3.2 Sethe

Everything you say is also true… the Constitution was written in a very different time, in which the average citizen might (much more than today, anyway) at some point need to use a weapon to defend himself or his country — something that is, for the majority of citizens — not the case today.

Applying the exact words, phrasings, and dictates of a document written over 200 years ago in a very different environment to our current social, legal, and political problems/disputes is… problematic. Naturally there are situations that exist today that the Founding Fathers could never even have imagined… what do we do in those cases? Legal “authorities” can decide either what the Constitution “says” or what the Founders “intended,” or the people can vote and the issue can be decided by those who care enough (and are able) to get to the polls… Is there a better way?

          • 2.1.3.2.1 ahjummabunny

I want to think feeling okay with owning a gun is cultural thing- as in it’s what happens in your town, family. but I can’t accept that after thinking about the potential for harm in owning a gun and using it won’t make you change your stance. Is it really possible that you just think, I only intend to use this gun to shoot pigs and that you don’t think it’s possible I’ll miss the pig and kill my brother? When I wash knives and put them in the wears rack I turn them down so the points won’t accidentally poke my cats, who don’t socialize with the wears rack. I thought all people with bodies under their protection were like me.

          • 2.1.3.2.2 Sethe

I don’t know… I think for many Americans, we have this “frontier” mythology… our country was settled by intrepid, courageous people who risked all they had and everything they knew to move themselves and their families to some wild, unknown land in search of things like “freedom” or “land” or “prosperity.” Fundamental to that mythology is that these ancestors of (some of) ours were constantly having to fight for and defend their “right” to establish the kind of lives they wanted to have here (free to live as they thought was right, regardless of whose rights their rights trampled on in the process, or who they hurt — and those are my additions, you understand, not their considerations at the time).

So… intertwined with that mythology, somehow, is the idea that Americans are fated to always be defending ourselves against those who want to take away what we have (Tea Party, anyone?), and we need our guns as an important symbol (even if nothing more) of our power to defend our freedom.

          • 2.1.3.2.3 ahjummabunny

ah that’s what it is. Hmm I still can’t accept that it’s always been this way so it must continue to be, but I understand it a bit better now. Thanks Sethe.

          • 2.1.3.2.4 LizJ

Not even sure where is the right place to jump in and comment on this subject, but I’ll do it here.

In the US the Constitution can be amended but it is difficult to get an amendment ratified. I believe there was a purpose behind this, so that there would be lots of examination and debate before changes were made at this fundamenal level.

Every time one of these tragedies happen the blame is placed on gun sales being legal in the US. Often these perpertrators have purchased guns illegally, and often the tragedy is a crisis that staunch no gun ownership advocates try hard to not waste in their ongoing push to restrict law abiding citizens from owning guns. If what I heard when this story was breaking is confirmed to be true, this individual may have purchased some or all of his weapons illegally.

There ten to be two types of individuals that commit these horrific crimes. The first is a person with severe psychiatric problems that has been triggered by some perceived wrong done to them. I disagree that these individuals don’t tend to have the ability to plan ahead and purchase guns, illegally or legally (if they can get away with it). A sociopath could well plan something like this and be indifferent to the suffering of non-involved victims.

The second type of individual that tends to commit these crimes is a terrorist (of course, an individual might well be both).

While there is a lot of drug cartel violence spilling over into states bordering Mexico, the violent acts those groups typically perpetrate is more targeted.

          • 2.1.3.2.5 Sethe

            @LizJ:

There’s a big difference (in psychiatry) between a “sociopath” and a truly psychotic person — a sociopath (also known as someone with antisocial personality disorder) certainly has the ability to plan ahead and make calculated decisions to do things that’ll hurt others; someone like that would for sure figure out how to get a gun if they wanted to. That type of person isn’t technically “insane,” just, basically, a complete ass. I agree that stricter gun laws most likely wouldn’t make a difference in their behavior. How to help them… I certainly wish I knew.

On the other hand, there are the truly “insane” — people who are completely out of touch with reality and do things like shoot others because of some beliefs that have entered their mind that are completely out of line with the “reality” generally accepted by the majority of people (paranoid delusions… things like that). (Remember the man who shot Gabby Giffords last year? That’s the kind of person I’m talking about — from all evidence I could see at the time, the man was psychotic [I can't diagnose someone I never met, obviously, but he sure seemed to fit the picture of a paranoid schizophrenic].) These are the people who, in my opinion, might be prevented from carrying out things like murders if it were made more difficult for them to obtain guns.

          • 2.1.3.2.6 Sethe

If you want to see someone who makes essentially the same case (much better than I did — although she does disagree with me about Loughner), check out The Cycle on MSNBC… they have on a criminal profiler who talks about the difference between “psychopaths” and the truly “insane.”

          • 2.1.3.2.7 Sethe

Just watched a little more MSNBC, and they had on a forensic psychologist who totally agreed with me — check it out!

    • 2.2 Arhazivory

Oh yeah. So sad. I heard about it this morning. :(

    • 2.3 Brandi

Yeah it’s so sad. I just saw about it on the news. 12 dead. It was a crowded theater because it was opening night for the new Dark Knight.

    • 2.4 Laeah

It was weird cuz the attendants in our theater kept pacing the theaters. I had a bad feeling.

      I found out why.

Poor people. It’s even more scary due to the subject matter of the movie. It’s chilling… I think the movie is coming to real life. It’s very politically charged. I hope there are no repeats.

Prayers and thoughts for all the family members and victims, survivors.

      • 2.4.1 ahjummabunny

your theatre used it’s workers ( concessions, ushers, ticket takers) to patrol the aisles and not armed guards for suspicious activity! That’s nuts!

    • 2.5 Shiku

It is a scary thing as I am one of those people who goes to midnight screenings if am really excited about a movie.

My thoughts and prayers are with the victims.

    • 2.6 1061-kun

The shooting will be in the news for a few days and everybody will be outraged. But soon it will forgotten and nothing will be done to solve the problem. Around 10,000 people are killed a year in America due to guns but that is price we pay for us to have the right to bear arms (guns).

      • 2.6.1 Shiku

        That’s a steep price imho.

    • 2.7 oftheshore

This is just terrible. My heart goes to the families of the deceased. Such awful events are always shocking, but it is even more devastating when such a tragedy strikes in the middle of an event that is supposed to be fun, happy, such as watching a film you wanted to see for a long time.

    • 2.8 Stella Castle

My son was in theater 8 right next to theater 9 where all this happened. A couple people in his theater were hurt from shrapnel and Wes ended up helping some lady who was bleeding profusely from her mouth by handing her his shirt. Then they proceeded to try and get out of the theater safely. He got the woman to a paramedic and got his now extremely bloody shirt back when the swat team showed up. He dropped to the ground and tried to get out of their way but his shirt got kicked out of his hand back in to the theater. He opted not to go back in for his shirt.

He was unable to get his car that was parked in the parking lot because it was cordoned off so the police could look for bombs. Apparently that’s part of the deal with this monster… he made and planted bombs in his house and possibly in the theater and parking lot. A lot of Wes’ stuff is still in his car that he needs for work, but he can’t get to any of it without being arrested. On top of all this, he got maybe 4 hours of sleep and he has to go in to work where his boss will probably ream him out for not bringing in his badge and uniform. I’m not sure, but the shirt he lost in the aftermath may be his work shirt… I’ll find out later.

It sounds like a scenario from a k-drama only it didn’t happen in Korea, and it happened to my son.

      • 2.8.1 Shiku

I am glad that your son got out safe and am sorry he had to go through it.

I think his boss would understand if he didn’t have the uniform on. It’s a tragic situation for everyone involved.

      • 2.8.2 canxi

Happy your son got out of there safely. His boss should totally understand about that situation.

The whole thing is really sad and I can’t believe it happened or for what reason. :/

  3. Leaf

    HELLO EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Guess where I am people?
    That’s right… I’m finally in Yantai China!!! I MADE IT <3

I arrived late last night (It's 21:18 here at the mo) and it's been super super hot in China since I arrived.
I was absolutely dieing when we were wondering around Shanghai.

Anyway I'm sorry I haven't been on for a long time but I was at home and at home I am busy doing absolutely nothing which of course complete stops me from doing anything… ^yes glaring at you dear Mother^

Anyway now I am free again!!!! Except to go on Facebook ^cries^ I got tantalisingly close to breaking down the Great Firewall earlier but failed… ^le sigh^

So lovely people start our wonderful OT Fridays!!!

Friday friday gotta get down on Friday…
(I may have to now go and shot myself now…)

    • 3.1 Melani

I was in Shanghai in December and man, it was super cold. Opposite of what you’re experiencing. There is a way to get around the so-called Great Firewall of China. I was able to view and respond to Facebook posts via Flipboard app on my iPad. If I remember correctly, I wasn’t able to view my own posts which I thought was weird but when I returned home to LA, I was able to see all my posts. So it does work, it has its limitations but you can at least access Facebook. Try it and see if it works for you.

      • 3.1.1 Leaf

umm… I’m dirty poor and do not have such extravigant items as a ‘ipad’…
Being in China just makes me feel even poorer… ^sigh^

But yeah it absolutely boiling here!! Seriously my vitimen D deprived body is not used to such temperatures. It’s used to an average 9 degrees… and sometimes a sweltering 15….

And I did almost get around it earlier as I managed to log in and see the notification bar at the top which only made things worse as I could see stuff was waiting but no way of reaching it ^cries^
I was able to change my settings however so now I get an email ever time some comments on my stuff… haha, pathetic I know but the best I’ve got!

        • 3.1.1.1 Brandi

          Wan shang hao!

But yeah, I think any type of Facebook app can get through a bit. I have a Droid phone and when I was in China last November, I could post fine unto Facebook (couldn’t see pics or other post, though).

How long are you going to be there, Leaf?

          • 3.1.1.1.1 Leaf

Well I do not have a phone with me…
^yes there are such people still around…^
Next time I’m gonna bring my old phone here and buy a sim card. Of course my old phone was not a smart phone so that doesn’t really help with the whole facebook thing…

I am gonna be here for a month!! I haven’t left the campus yet and I am already planning my holiday home here!! It has awesome connections to my Hometown Seoul (yes my Hometown is somewhere I haven’t been before… so?)

    • 3.2 ahjummabunny

      Ni hao Leaf!
I hope you eat a lot of delicious and inexpensive food. I have envy!

      • 3.2.1 Leaf

        谢谢姐姐!!!

And ha… I better not show you my photos then!! I already gave my Mum servere food envy!!

But seriously… it’s even better than you are thinking of ;)

And tragically I have discovered that China is exactly the same price as the UK… ‘cept transport ^Shanghai Metro ftw!!^ and food (oh so delicious… and even a million quid wouldn’t get you such awesomeness in the UK ^cries^

        • 3.2.1.1 ahjummabunny

well I’ve only heard about the cheapness of hong kong stick food. what did you have that was especially good?

          • 3.2.1.1.1 Leaf

ah we haven’t even been having street food but did get a lovely mango drink for pennies decorated with Park Min young at the front.

Well we had one meal at the airport (AMAZING!!) and then another meal at the restaurant on Campus… which is not like my campus cafes at all. Excellent food and SO SO SO SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!! We had about 12 dishes and there were only 5 of us. It was perfect <3 And the cafferteria is split into lots of poshly decorated rooms. Seriously like gold leave fancy. It's amazing <3
Plus we got it free. Along with our (now) free accomadation… you know… just because they felt like it haha.

    • 3.3 Eternal

Ah, I’m so jealous :( I wish I could go back (mostly to eat hahah)

      • 3.3.1 Leaf

        The food is good!!

But everything else is awesome too!! Except said Facebook problem ^cries^

    • 3.4 zgznoona

That’s great!!! Now you can enjoy the awesome food, and experience all those new things, including the heat :P
      You’re staying for a year, aren’t you?

      • 3.4.1 Leaf

Not a year a month. Next I go on to Seoul and then visiting a friend in Hanoi!!

And heat is totally a new thing to me… seriously as soon as I stepped out Shanghai airport it was like being in a massive oven!! Well… not our oven as ours doesn’t get that hot… but a normal oven!!
But I think I’m already more used to it!! Maybe my body had been so deprieved of nessisary UV that it decided being burnt was preferable?
I’m not complaining!! Just looking forward to the beach on sunday!! :D

        • 3.4.1.1 zgznoona

So you are on vacation. have fun traveling. I want to do a similar trip soon.

          • 3.4.1.1.1 Leaf

            DO IT!!!!

And I’m not technically on vacation (I’m learning Mandarin so on a summer school thing. Starts monday!!) but I will be when I get to Seoul!!

And definately do it!! Everyone should go travelling and see new places!!! :D

        • 3.4.1.2 dramabliss

Hanoi – lovely city. When there, I strongly suggest you make a side trip southeastwardly to Halong Bay and take the cruise there amids 3000 karsts. Awesome sight!

Halong Bay, I believe, is one of the newly proclaimed New7Wonders of Nature, along with Korea’s Jeju Island and the Philippines’ Puerto Princesa Underground River, among others.

          • 3.4.1.2.1 Leaf

Ah I think I saw Halong Bay on Top Gear (yeah… I probably shouldn’t be admitting that…) and yes that place easily ranks within the top 7 most stunningly beautiful places on earth!!

However I’m not sure I can go there as well… I think it’s malaria zone which because I’m weak english – My strong Polish genes only influence ability to work hard… which I missed… and alcohol tolorence… which I rarely test… so yay and that is part of my proof that the Polish are the Koreans of Europe. Cause they are… – which means I will get bit and I will die.

But if we can get out there (I don’t think my friends family has a car…) I guess I will have to just smother myself in mosquito repelant…

Ahh… now I have something I want to do there except buy Harry Potter 1 haha

Leaf, my Donsaeng!!!!!!! Soooo good to hear from you :-) and so excited about you being in China!!!! Yay, finally!!!!!! I look forward to hearing how your trip to your hometown went (in Seoul:-)). I LOVED the part when you said that yes, you have a hometown you haven’t been to yet, LOL and so cute. I love trying new food and it sounds like your food experience is just awesome. I wish you all the best Leaf and I know that you will make the most of this opportunity and the most of your travels.

Any news of your boyfriend? Maybe you guys will secretly rendez-vous when you are in Seoul? :-) Please keep me updated:-)

        • 4.3.1.1 Leaf

I was trying to keep that plan a SECRET!!!
Now we won’t be able to pull it off ^cries^

But don’t worry!! I’m still keeping track of him via his weibo page ;) No facebook and no twitter is not enough to stop me!! :P

And yes! I will definately make the most of this travels!! :D

          Thank Unni!! <3
Hope you have a good time too!!! <3<3<3

        • 4.3.1.2 Ivoire

Awww Leaf!!!!! You just made my day <3, <3, <3!!!!

You know, my younger sister went to China in 2006 as a student for 5 weeks and JUST LOVED IT!!! Now she has been on more continents than me, LOL but it's not a competition. My mom has also been to China. I have yet to visit Asia and I hope to be able to go to some of those countries (of course, I would LOVE to visit South Korea, but also other places like Singapore [which I have heard is very diverse], Indonesia, India, China, Taiwan etc…) when the opportunity arises. Thank you for encouraging us to travel the world.

You… meeting with your boyfriend? Don't worry my donsaeng, your secret is safe with me. As long as you give me the juicy details later on, I won't blab to anyone, promise. You are the 1st one to call me unni ever! Now I understand a little bit how people feel when being called "oppa" and "unni." It just immediately fosters this protective feeling in you for the person who calls you that. No wonder the guys are so sensitive to being called that.

Did you see the pix of your boyfriend in his last commercial shots (with a Chinese actress, I think). If you did, what did you think of it? Did he look healthier to you? (remember he had arthritis when he lost a lot of weight for Padam Padam?)

Be careful with the heat, make sure you drink plenty of water and do you have sunscreen? if so, use it always and wear hats when you can. Man, I am such an "unni" already giving advice :-) ! Yeah, being the oldest of 6 kids will do that to you. Once an unni, always an unni. Have a wonderful day/night my little donsaeng. What time is it over there, btw?

          • 4.3.1.2.1 Leaf

Why would I call you anything other than Unni? <3

Haha I need to get my cousin to call me Unni when I go see her… she's probably a bit too old for it now though :(

And of course your Sister loved China, it is awesome here!!! Now I'm even more desperate to escape the UK haha!
I'm sure you will get the chance to visit sometime soon!!

There is one problem with China though and that is how frigging expensive stuff is!! It's the same prices as back home ^cries^

And my boyfriend is looking much hotter now that is not on the verge of dying. I don't feel like crying everytime I see him.
And his photos with Ariel Lin (awesome Taiwannese Actress) WERE EPIC <3

And trust me you will all be the first to hear about my meeting with my boyfriend!! <3

Hope you are having a great summer!! xxx

(and it is currently 18:37 here so we've done all our exploring and shopping for today, tomorrow is Beach time!!)

Hi Leaf, just read your message and will be back later to respond :-)

    • 4.4 Maya

      Happy Friday, Ivoire!

And as promised I’ve translated the plot summary of Tim Hwang’s drama.

Kim Young Min (Tim Hwang) is the son of a chaebol, Kim San who is a friend and business partner of an Indonesian businessman named Harno.

The relation between Young Min and Indonesia doesn’t end there as his mom Son Jung Min apparently passed away in Bali six years ago. Rumor has it that Young Min’s mom died with a Balinese man named Wayan (Ronald Gustav). Kim San then assumed that his wife was having an affair with Wayan, which fueled his hatred towards Young Min’s mom.

Young Min who is also a famous star in Korea has the opportunity to visit Indonesia one day for a business matter with Harno. Young Min is actually using his visit to Indonesia to dig deeper into the real cause of his mother’s death. He never believes that his mom was unfaithful to his dad.

Young Min then pretends to go missing and heads to Bali to uncover the truth behind this mystery. Once in Bali, he receives help from Adi (also played by Ronald Gustav), a songwriter who’s a fan of K-music. Here’s where it gets complicated…Adi is actually the biological son of Wayan. While Wayan is the adopted father of Ayu (Revalina S. Temat), who is actually the biological daughter of Hatno and his secretary Laras. phewwww…

Young Min is unaware that his disappearance caused a frenzy both in Indonesia and S. Korea and prompted Kim San to send his daughter Yuna (Geum Dan Bi) and Young Min’s manager Jeung Seok (Richard Kwon) to find him, while Harno sends his daughter Dewi (Rini Yulianti) and a private detective Bambang to track his whereabout.

During his hideout in Bali, Young Min and Ayu are always bickering. As time goes by, both of them eventually fall in love. Meanwhile, Dewi who is desperately looking for Young Min is also secretly in love with him. Series of conflicts finally brought Young Min to the conclusion that his mom did have an affair with Wayan. After knowing that Ayu is Wayan’s daughter, he then packs his bag back to Korea.

During one of their arguments, Adi blurts out that Ayu is not Wayan’s biological daughter, and somehow she finally knows that Harno and Laras are her biological parents. Through Laras’ help, Ayu finally managed to go to Korea for work-related matter. She plans to use this opportunity to give a memento from Young Min’s mom to Kim San. The memento is a painting of Jayaprana and Layonsari, the main key to all of the conflicts that are happening. (from azonerskaryamedia.blogspot.com)

So what I get in the end is can they clear all of the misunderstandings and finally be with each other?

To be honest, the premise doesn’t win me at all. There’s too much makjang element and complicated birth secret for my taste. The humor is slapsticky (although I smirk at that scene where Tim hides in the chicken’s cage) and I already hate the second lead female with her evil-bulging eyes and sinister smile, just from watching the cuts. And she has that annoying Indonesian’s pronunciation and intonation (sorry personal ranting here). As I wrote before, I’m not a fan of the female lead also. Most of Indonesian actresses casted in small screen dramas are mostly chosen because of their looks while their actings range from bad to sub-par. It’s a shame really because we do have a crop of good and versatile main lead actresses, but most of them prefer to act in movies rather than small screen. I like Tim though, since I’ve seen him in some Korean variety shows before (X-Man, Love Letter, Kko Kko Tour).

I could’ve stream this show, but since I have to watch it at 10AM EST, I don’t think I’ll be able to, still have a day job to do :D . I’ve checked YouTube, but I don’t think anyone uploaded it yet.

Anyway I just read that this is a drama with the biggest budget yet, since they filmed it like a movie, good camera and cinematography, I guess.

Oh yeah, I translated the summary from this
page. You can also find the longer video of the drama (which includes cuts from this week’s episodes, I guess. It airs from Monday to Friday)

      • 4.4.1 Ivoire

Awwww Maya, you are such a darling <3, <3, <3 You remembered!!!!! Thank you so much!!!!

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE that your description is detailed and long, the way I love them. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! I will read it and pass this info to another DB OTer who was asking about it today. Please, pretty please with cherry on top, if you find out where I can safely watch this online, let me know (I hope it will be sub in English). Hopefully you have my email address with you, in case I don't show up on OT or on DB when busy with life (if that is OK for you to email me. I am safe, very safe, I promise :-) ).

I will be back later, after I read your post. I have a lot to do, so please, as you now know with me, check here often (meaning throughout the weekend).

Have a wonderful Friday and an amazing weekend, I hope!!!!!

        • 4.4.1.1 Maya

You’re welcome, Ivoiry. Viki ‘might’ upload the show, esp since it’s slated to be aired in 5 different countries in South East Asia and also in Australia. It is also featured in their entertainment news section. So you might want to check it there. Meanwhile the only option to see the drama now is by streaming it (RAW) live, you can go to mivo.tv and choose Indosiar. It’s a website I use to stream TV shows from Indonesia. Since it’ll air around 9.30 AM EST, I think you can catch it around 5.30 AM PST? :)

        • 4.4.1.2 Ivoire

Hey Maya, and thanks for the info!

I will be checking the “Viki” website about it. I am glad it will be shown in different countries as I really like the themes they will be tackling. Too bad they chose to go the Makjang route, when there are so many issues they could have addressed when featuring an interracial couple in a drama. I also find it sad that they chose a sub-par actress, even if she is pretty, because that will affect the drama in my opinion. I wish they had been able to go with a stronger actress.
Do you think the other ones (actresses) like movies better because it is less demanding (schedule wise, etc…) and maybe because they make more $ making movies in Indonesia than dramas? Just wondering.
I will also check mivo.tv and Indosiar, just out of curiosity, to see if I can access them. Do you currently live in the US? (just wondering…)

Again, thanks so much for all the info, I appreciate it.

          • 4.4.1.2.1 Maya

I think there are different reasons, but maybe because most of the dramas do not have a predetermined numbers of episodes? Therefore, you don’t know how long you will have to act. If the rating is good, then they might have to act for…ever, but if it’s not then they might have to cut it short. Another reason is that most of these dramas run every day, even on weekend and they have to shoot it live. So it’s pretty demanding. The moneys are not necessarily lower than movies. They can get big money especially if the drama is doing well. But then again, the live shooting and undetermined episodes seem to take its toll on the writing, so it normally becomes illogical in the end. I think some of these actress are also looking at the quality of the drama, that’s why they tend to decline it, while others might see the work as pretty demanding, especially since they don’t know how long they have to do it for.
Btw, what I mean by Indosiar is the channel you need to choose when you’re on mivo.tv, sorry for the confusion.
And yes Ivoire, I’m currently living in US :)

          • 4.4.1.2.2 Maya

And I can’t agree more with your comment about addressing the interracial couple issues. I think the issues can be somewhat complicated without involving the misunderstandings and the mystery. Although I find the painting as an interesting momenta as it’s rich with Balinese culture. Hope this side would get developed further.

          • 4.4.1.2.3 Ivoire

Maya, I will be back later to answer your post, so please, check back later and throughout the weekend, thanks :-) !

    • 4.5 oftheshore

Happy Friday, Ivoire! How has your week been?
I have been working hard in the office/Library all week, so haven’t managed to watch the last two episodes of IDID. It was worth the sacrifice, though, because I finally managed to produce something and send it to my supervisors. Feeling much better now! Also, I had a random dream about Ji An. :D

      • 4.5.1 Ivoire

Hey OTS, good morning to you!!!! (It’s still morning here in CA, USA)

Soo good to hear from you!!!! My week has been fairly good, I am behind on a few things, so I will have to eventually take care of that, hopefully this weekend.

I am soooo glad you produced something and sent it to your supervisors, that is a step in the right direction and that’s very important!!!! See, and you are even feeling much better now. Kdramas are great, but they are just that, dramas, fictional (often) storytelling that we enjoy for many reasons, but real life and responsibilities should come 1st, always!!! So please don’t feel guilty and pat yourself on the back instead!!!! I am sooooo proud of you, YAY!!!!

I won’t spoil you about IDID, I have started episode 15 but have not finished it yet and I haven’t watched episode 16 yet either, so that makes at least two of us that have not watch the ending yet. I did skip to the end and I think you will like it (at least I hope).

What was the dream with Ji An about? (If you don’t mind sharing). Alright my dear, I hope your day is going well! BTW, what country do you live in? (if you don’t mind my asking?)

        • 4.5.1.1 oftheshore

Hi Ivoire! Always lovely to hear from you!:)
I definitely don’t feel guilty about skipping drama episodes – thesis always comes first! Sometimes it comes before food and sleep, though, and it’s then that it becomes a problem…
I’m based in the UK, so it’s already 6pm here. A good friend of mine moved to California a couple of years ago, so who knows, I might come and visit someday.;)

          • 4.5.1.1.1 Ivoire

BTW, have you heard from the factory, about our TK clones? :-)

        • 4.5.1.2 Ivoire

Hey OTS, you forgot to talk about the dream :-( , unless you don’t want to (which would be fine).

You might have mentioned this before, but what is your field again? So, are you British then? (I don’t assume that everyone who lives in the UK is from there).
Yeah, as they say in Kdramas, make sure you eat well (so you can be strong and healthy :-) ). And about CA, yeah, come and visit when you have the time and opportunity. I think you might like it here, at least I hope so. And who knows, we might be able to meet then :-)

What is the next drama you are planning on watching? Was IDID the only drama you were watching this time around? Was it your 1st drama with KSA?

          • 4.5.1.2.1 oftheshore

Argh, I was too excited to reply :D
So in my dream I attended Ji An’s baby shower (absurd, I know), and then I saw her in the hospital with baby Ankle. My brain sure is weird sometimes. :)
I hope to come to the States as a visiting scholar for a semester, maybe, and it would be lovely to see you then!
The plan is to watch Gaksital next and follow a new j-drama with Oguri Shun (Rich Man, Poor Woman). What do you plan to watch after IDID and Gaksital?
My first drama with KSA was Kim Sam Soon – still one of my favourites! What about yours?

P.S. I’m actually from Ukraine, but I’ve lived abroad for a while, and I did my MSc here three years ago.

          • 4.5.1.2.2 oftheshore

No news on the factory yet. Still need to actually find one :D

          • 4.5.1.2.3 Ivoire

I don’t know if you read this, but I asked you if you have heard from the factory about our TK clones? *Sighs,* when I date again, I really want to date someone like TK, he is so full of wonderful qualities, not perfect, no one ever is, but so wonderful still. And to think that in real life some women are blessed to have such men in their lives. Where do you think we should go, to find such men? :-)

You know, the dream with JA in it doesn’t surprise me. I think it is indicative of how engrossed you have been in the drama, for it to show up in your subconscious and in your relaxed state. So, was the baby shower fun (in the dream :-) ? Wow, you saw baby Ankle, in your dream :-) ? Cute and adorable!!!! What did she look like?

I hope your dream of coming to the US as a visiting scholar works out. I haven’t watched any other Asian drama, so far (actually ever), except for some videos on Youtube (Taiwanese, and a few minutes of Japanese and Chinese).
I actually caught Gaksital in the middle, so I actually need to watch the beginning, but I am not in a hurry. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the musical score and soundtrack of Gaksital. Almost every scene has music in it, that is how important the music is to this drama, and it helps make it epic IMO.
I am very slow when I watch Kdramas. I watch an episode (which takes me a long time, because I replay scenes and I stop often to read the subs because I am a slow reader). Then I read the recap (if available) and the recapper’s commentary, to see if I missed some cultural and linguistic elements, because the subbers don’t always include all of that. I also read some of the comments by viewers and sometimes I read more than one recap/blog (if available) to have more than one perspective. As you can see, I am more interested in the journey than in the destination, because I know that I will get there (to the destination), eventually.
I am more interested in the experience I have when watching a Kdrama. The food, language, sights, different style of acting, cinematography, OST, script etc… that I am being exposed to. I want to take my time soaking all of that in and then I have to process it.

I am someone who loves details, as you can tell by my writing and so when I watch something, Korean or other, I tend to pay attention to the details, it is my nature. I am just that way and it works for me. I would also rather process a little bit of info at at time, so I don’t like watching too many dramas at the same time, 1 or 2 is fine. I also spend a lot of time reading blogs and contributing (mainly this one), but I tend to write long posts, so that is time consumming as well. I figured, dramas will be there tomorrow, so it’s OK if I don’t watch too many of them.
I am also more interested in the quality of the drama than in the quantity of dramas I watch, so I am in no hurry because I am selective. There are just too many of them, and I am still fairly new to Kdramaland. I couldn’t catch up, even if I wanted to. I like reading blogs a lot, about celebrities (Korean) and opinions and social and historic issues (about Korea and Asia in general), so I don’t watch a lot of Kdramas per se. However, I am immersed in a lot of things Korean related. Also, as you know, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE dissecting the dramas and analyzing their characters.

How long have you been watching Kdramas? I started in August 2010 with Personal Taste (LMH). Some dramas, I have only 1/2 or 3/4 watched, with the intent to eventually finish them. I also read recaps a lot, more than I watch Kdramas actually, especially if I like the writing style, like here. Sometimes, I find it more entertaining and better done than the drama itself. Recaps lets me know if I would want to watch a drama or not (sometimes). I also like writing, so I tend to do more of that.
I did see MNIKSS and I like it as well (I am not sure that I love it, and I have reasons why, although I did love it originally). It was my 1st intro to Hyun Bin, and then I had a crush on him when I saw him in “World Within.” I haven’t seen Secret Garden yet, only a few episodes, but I personally like HB better when he is a little bigger, not as thin as he was in SeGa, his face didn’t look that healthy and that good to me. One of the main reasons why I haven’t watched SeGa, I have a hard time looking at him. I don’t find him (physically) or his character attractive (the personality of his character), so I am not driven to watch it.

I want to watch Faith and I will just stick to that one, I think. But I will make a list of dramas I would like to watch and that will include, Gaksital, Ghost, AGD (didn’t watch the beginning) and many other dramas past and current. I also want to take a break between dramas, so I can focus more on me and my life. Hard to do because I enjoy dramas so much, but I will give it a try. Spend a week or so without watching Kdramas or doing Korean related reading, etc… That will be challenging for me, but it will be good :-) !

I think you said in a former OT that you are 24 right? Did you turn 24 this year? (just wondering…)

          • 4.5.1.2.4 oftheshore

Right, after this post I am definitely starting Gaksital! Everything (alright, almost everything) about it sounds good, so consider me seduced by the epicness. I’m really looking forward to Faith, too.
I know what you mean when you said you liked but didn’t love MNIKSS. I had some small issues with it here and there, mainly with Hyun Bin’s character. Seriously, I love Hyun Bin, but I don’t remember him playing a character I didn’t have issues with (not his fault – just the writing). Sam Soon was a great character, though.
My first K-drama was Coffee Prince, and it’s still my favourite. Dal Ja’s Spring was almost as good – again, loved the main character, and I certainly recommend it, since, again, the main guy is far from being a jerk. In fact, the drama is pretty much jerk-free. There are some characters in it who are really flawed, but in a believable (and even endaring) way. These are the two Korean dramas I can watch again and again.
Food in K-dramas is always so good it makes me crave grilled meat.
Taking a break from dramas is a highly recommended exercise. I took a seven months-break and only started watching K-Dramas again when I got hooked up on IDID. During that time I just read some recaps and news on DB, but nothing really excited me anyway.
            Turning 25 this year. Woo-hoo..?

          • 4.5.1.2.5 Ivoire

Hey OTS, going to do some chores, so please check back later and throughout the weekend if you can :-) , thanks!

          • 4.5.1.2.6 Ivoire

            Hi OTS,

I started a long message to you that I haven’t finished, so I haven’t posted it yet. I am going to church and I have some errands to run this afternoon, so I will be back at some point. You know me, I will finish my answer and post it at some point. So please continue to check here. In the meantime, you could tell me what you think of BM (Gaksital aka Bridal Mask) if you have started it. What do you think of the OST? Isn’t it awesome?

A plus tard (French for see you later) :-)

  5. Melani

Good morning, everyone and Happy Friday! Monday can’t come soon enough for me and the upcoming final episodes of Big! I’m also watching Ghost–love this show; can’t believe I got hooked on it so quickly. Hope everyone has a fantastic day!

  6. Frances

I am early for the OT, hehehe….

It’s still gaksital for me….agd is not looking good for me….just read the recaps for Sungkyunkwan scandal, hay I like the joseon f4 bettter than the f44….although Jung rok is hilarious…teehee…

    • 6.1 OMG

just started watching it n m up to episode 10 n i must say….never have i suffered second lead syndrome till this show…MOON JAE SHIN/YOO AH-IN…it doesn’t get any more perfect that him!!!

      • 6.1.1 Maya

Ah welcome to the Monnie Faction! :)

        • 6.1.1.1 OMG

thank you, thank you….i will now be skipping the lines and throngs of women to announce that Yoo Ah-In is MINE!!!!!!! araso!!!

  7. oramylove

hi there! I’d like to recommend a wife’s credentials to everyone.. Its a very moving, fantastic and realistic drama. You wont regret it! God Bless everyone!!!

    • 7.1 whimsyful

I’ve been wanting to watch that since forever but I couldn’t find eng subs anywhere. Where did you stream it?

      • 7.1.1 oramylove

yeah, that’s the sad thing it still does’nt have english subs. (mysoju has episode 5 only) It’s the only drama i’ve watched raw. It is passionate, it reflects real life situations and how do you handle it. The characters are real, and i’m in love with the two leads. It’s an amazing drama you should watch and I wish they could sub this.

  8. Stacy

Happy OTF! Counting down the days until Faith and Arang!!!!

Finished I Do, I Do last night. Episode 15 was my favorite of all the eps with the way it ended, but I thought they did a good job with the ending of the show. I’ll give more detailed thoughts when the recap is posted.

I’m loving Big and can’t wait to see how it’s going to end!

Currently watching Rich Man, Poor Man and enjoying it so far – God I’ve missed Oguri Shun!

Decided to give The Legend a try because of all the references I’m seeing when people talk about Faith. Watched the first episode….Wow. That’s EXACTLY my kind of thing! Wish I’d realized it was pretty much a fantasy drama earlier. Love, love, love fantasy stuff, so this is right up my alley, and it’s making me anticipate Faith that much more.

Also watching 3 TW dramas at the moment:

Absolute Boyfriend – as much as I enjoy seeing Jiro on my screen, I have to take this one in small doses because the dubbing is extremely annoying at times.

Material Queen – wasn’t too sure about this one until I watched ep 3. Now it’s getting interesting, and Vanness Wu is definitely pretty to look at. As a bonus, I went looking for the OST cause I really liked the theme song, and discovered that VW is the singer. Took a while, but I finally found his album and I’m thoroughly enjoying it.

My Queen – finished through ep 15 and so far, so good. It hasn’t bogged down yet like so many other TW dramas I’ve watched.

    • 8.1 houstontwin

I saw My Queen. I really enjoyed most of it but…be prepared for a disappointing ending! (Is that a spoiler?).

      • 8.1.1 zgznoona

I watched it recently, actually I’m fine with the ending.
I would explain why, but I’m afraid I can’r do it with out spoilers.

    • 8.2 mary

      Is that Binbo Danshi? :D

That was a good jdorama. Even if Shun Oguri looked weird in it, the story arcs were awesome. I fistpump-ed everytime Shun’s goodness trumps the Gangster’s evil plans. Haha

      • 8.2.1 Stacy

Not Binbo Danshi. Rich Man, Poor Woman is currently airing on Mondays.

        • 8.2.1.1 mary

Eep sorry! Looks like this new jdorama was discussed in last week’s OT. Everyone seems to be watching it this week. :D

(Sorry I missed last week’s OT.) And thanks for the heads up! I’m going to hunt down this new Shun series! <3

      • 8.2.2 Kim Yoonmi

Rich Man, Poor Woman is a new drama, Oguri Shun plays a man who can’t remember names or faces that well, but is searching for his mother. He once was a Freeter and now has made it rich. (Opposite of his Binbo Danshi roll) He’s a bit cold and calculating.

Ishihara Satomi known for Puzzle, Nurse Aoi, Voice, etc plays the female lead. She plays a poor woman that has a high university degree, but can’t seem to find a job. She has a good memory and old fashioned values which often hurt her. She’s a bit quiet and withdrawn.

They both are playing against type entirely, which makes it entertaining.

Oguri Shun from what I know tends to not be a computer geek–he likes to surf, he’s a bit of a dork and a bit of a manga dork? He takes an awful lot of manga-based roles.

Ishihara Satomi-san usually plays out going characters that try their hardest no matter what and are truthful to the very last. She’s played a darker side before as a teacher, but this role is opposite of what she usually plays. (Which becomes clear by the end of the first episode).

If you’ve seen neither of their works, the clash between the two character’s values and what they give to each other is entertaining. Plus that company seems like my dream job…

    • 8.3 yumi

      Love Oguri Shun!!

    • 8.4 oftheshore

Love Shun – he’s definitely more than a pretty face. The guy can deliver some really good acting at times (script permitting). I’m also enjoying Rich Man, Poor Woman, and ten bucks says the main characters were from the same town.

  9. edelweisss

    Hi happy friday OTers!
I haven’t been watching anything for 2 weeks-blame those stupid exams. Fortunately they end tomorrow and hopefully I’ll get to watch the rest of Big! Looks like they saved the best for the last, eh?

    • 9.1 zgznoona

Welcome back to the drama world

      • 9.1.1 edelweisss

        Thank you zgznoona
Any souls out there like me caught in the midst of exams? I pray for all those souls….

  10. 10 Stardust

I watched SungKyunKwan Scandal and found it really funny and the bromance was actually more the draw for me… HEHE… SJK and YIA? Oh yeaah… not interested in slash or anything… but bromance rocks! Which is why I am STILL watching the at times very slow moving plot for A Gentlemen’s dignity… which is ironic since none of the F44s actually considered themselves gentlemen…

I bought Hello Ghost dvd to watch recently…and despite it being the 2nd time watching it… I still sobbed like a baby… thank goodness for the pause button… If I watched it one shot, I think I would have gone to work with puffy eyes today… XD

Still pining for Gaksital…. a show that did not draw me in the beginning, since I have not seen any of the actors’works before… I was a little wary of Joo Won’s slanty eyes.. which disturbed me when I watched one ep of Baker King. It took some getting used to, and I am happy to say I made it!! That boy looks fine in a suit! Every episode now makes me want the next day to come faster, and then the next week to come faster. Gaksitaaaal!!

Hope everyone here have a wonderful weekend ahead, and pray for the wounded and the families of all involved.

    • 10.1 jomo

I am sure by “slanty eyes,” you meant to express the way he uses them, not the shape of his eyes, right? LOL

I think I know what you mean, but keep in mind that observation could be considered offensive.

Although, I remember in My Princess, when KTH made fun of someone’s eyes like that, and that could hardly have been anything other than her being silly.

      • 10.1.1 Stardust

kekeke I meant no disrespect for Joo won’s fans!! I am really impressed with his acting so far, and of cos I am one of those noonas who think he is Oh.so.CUTE. in 1n2d =D

    • 10.2 piaaa

I HATE him in Baker King too! And one of the reason why I’m not watching 1n2d season….

But because I love the tone of his new drama.. I decided to give it a try… And love the story..

And I think he’s growing on me now. keke~

      • 10.2.1 jomo

I LOVED HIM in BK. He was the only reason I watched it, actually.
So pretty when he cried, still is.

        • 10.2.1.1 piaaa

Maybe I just like Tak-gu’s character more.

I watched it dubbed which makes it more horrible. So I think It’s his character’s dubbers fault.

It was aired here on our country and my WHOLE family was addicted to it so I have no choice but to watch it.

      • 10.2.2 okiejune

You should watch him in Ojakgyo Brothers – he’s really wonderful in that (actually, the whole drama is great!)

    • 10.3 kelinci biru

Yes, Sungkyunkwan bromance rocks. have you seen the clips where Yoo A in and Song Joong Ki wins the best couple of the year? beating Park Min Young and Yoo Chun and the Marry me couple. its so cute.

      • 10.3.1 Maya

Oh yes! I remember that clip. I replayed it over and over again to see their reactions. CMIIW, but they are the first male-male pairing who won the award, no?

  11. 11 makoto

I’ve just finished Big ep 13 – 14, they killedme, especially the last 8 minutes of episode 14. When Kyung Joon & Da ran cried surreptitiously. :( ( I don’t like Jang Mari, she was so scary, more evil than Se young.
Btw now in Indonesia there is a Korean – Indonesian drama collaboration, with Tim Hwang (one of 49 Days ost singer) as the lead character. I don’t know much about this guy’s works, anybody happen to know him? :)

    • 11.1 Ivoire

      Hi Makoto,

We talked about that in last OT (# 248) here:

      1.4 Ivoire July 13th, 2012 at 4:50 pm

Read what I wrote and read the responses below that. I also asked about it here (OT # 247):

      2.4 Ivoire July 6th, 2012 at 4:29 pm

Again, read what I wrote and the comments below. If you know where I can watch this online, please let me know (I live in the US, so I would have to watch online, but I don’t know if it will be subbed). Also, please let me know what you think of it if you are watching it. Please feel free to email me and spoil me (let me know what happens in the drama), I really don’t mind.

I hope this helps a little bit, thanks!

      • 11.1.1 kelinci biru

Hi Ivoire! Hi Makoto! I just read your respond, and here’s some answer, and unfortunately i don’t have any link whatsoever or even spoiler because it aired at 9pm and i never got home that early.

I have your email and will email you as soon as i have more news.

For now: Tim is not big yet in Indonesia, but he will.
The drama aired Monday to Friday. It will be in Bahasa Indonesia (mostly), English (interaction between the hero-heroin) and Korean (between the Korean actors).

        here’s the trailers:
        short teaser :

        long trailer:

        hope this helps!!
oh, it will be 30 episode.

        • 11.1.1.1 kelinci biru

I meant to Ivoire, that i just read your respond. and will email you if i have more news…

        • 11.1.1.2 Ivoire

Helloooooo Kelinci Biru and I am sooo glad you read my response, because I had been thinking about you. Thanks so much for all the info, I really appreciate it.
So it sounds like the drama airs everyday (during the week) in Indonesia, since it airs Mond. through Frid. Is it more than an 1hr long, like Kdramas? How has it been received/perceived in Indonesia so far? Do you know?

Also, it seems that Hyun Bin is big in Indonesia, since he was invited by the Defense department (I think) last year, right? Are many Korean stars (actors/actresses, idols) big or huge in Indonesia? Is K-pop very popular there? I am just curious about those kinds of things…

Hope all is well with you :-)

          • 11.1.1.2.1 kelinci biru

hope all well for you too!

yes, Hyun Bin is pretty big alongside Lee Min Ho. K-pop and K-dramas is really trendy nowadays. When super junior came, lots of girl fainted just queuing for the ticket. Big bang is coming this october (i’m going to watch). MBlaq also recently came.

Last year, 49 days & Sungkyunkwan was pretty big, and weirdly, so was Heartstring.

Moon/sun is going to air but i haven’t got any reaction yet.

Oh, yup, it aired everyday from Monday to Friday and only 1 hour. I think most people watch it or who don’t watch it knows it exist (i meant the marketing team was good, at least everybody hear about it).. no rating made public so can’t know for sure.

          • 11.1.1.2.2 Maya

Hi kelinci biru! I was reading your comment about this drama. I was on the phone with my mom a couple days ago, and she seems to be aware of the drama too. She’s watching another sinetron on another channel though. So I don’t think that she’ll follow this show. But in a way, I kinda like the predetermined episodes when they start airing it. Most of sinetron (Indonesian soaps) nowadays tend to run forever and become illogical in the end. I hoped this will prompt another channel/production house to adopt this concept. I remember that it used to be like that in the good old days. At least 24-52 episodes, and they are pretty good sinetron too.
Anyway, to add you kelinci biru’s comment. Korean wave first swept Indonesia in the early 2000, and lots of dramas were pretty big back then. I remember that Bae Young Joon used to be big too. But the the craze died down for a bit, and now it’s coming back stronger than before? Judging from the numbers of concerts held there now, it’s really big.
It seems like a lot of good things are happening in Indonesia while I’m not there.

          • 11.1.1.2.3 Maya

I mean, to add to kelinci biru’s comment

          • 11.1.1.2.4 Ivoire

@ kelinci biru and Maya, I will be back later to answer your posts. Please check back later and throughout the weekend as well. Thank you!

        • 11.1.1.3 Makoto

Hi Ivoire, Maya & Kelinci Biru. I have just visited this thread again. Previously I posted via mobile phone so I had a bit difficulty to read the comments after mine.
I have watched the drama for episode 3 – 4 and decided not to follow it until the end, but I’m a bit curious about Tim’s other works before this drama. I heard that he did some musicals.
Yup, it’s shame to admit but Indonesian drama (we call it sinetron) are indeed illogical, as Maya has stated. It airs everyday on weekdays and can run for years and even for… ever. hahaha…
About K pop in Indonesia, it has great influence to teenagers here. I’m one of those fans (though I’m an ahjumma already), especially JYJ. But generally people in my surrounding are still new to this idea of K pop. All they know about Korea is plastic surgery and beautiful boy, some of them even think that Korean = fake. That’s sad. I have to bit my tongue and pull myself out whenever I hear that, so I won’t fight them. That’s why I’m glad to find community like this one in dramabeans. :)

  12. 12 makoto

oh I forgot to mention the title, it’s Saranghae I Love You. :)

  13. 13 Licia

    Hey everyone.
Just first wanted to say farewell to I Do I Do. It was a cute drama and I really did enjoy Lee Jang Woo he was so cute in this role. I like him even more now since I watch him on WGM. He has so much boyish charm.
The only thing I would have like to see in the show was the progress of Ji An’s pregnancy. I wanted to see 2 people from different position in life have to come to a common ground for their child. I wanted to see the steps because for a Ji An who was so strong and whom I called a female jerk in the beginning. I think having to see change in her like hormones, wearing shoes that are not heels s and having all the things that come along with being pregnant would have been great for both characters and for laughs but I overall I really liked this show.

Can I say how much I am in LOVE with the J-dorama Rich Man , Poor Woman with Oguri Shun and Ishihara Satomi. I love the characters interaction he’s not the typical rich guy in the fact that he does not have a formal education he s one of those young people who started their own online media company. He is very smart (genuis like)and he is eccentric he lives in his own world but he cant remember people faces or names.

She has the formal education and has heart. And has a crazy like memory. What I love about their interactions is that although their ideologies are different there is a special like quality that their able to draw out each either to grow or mature and this is separate from the “I like you” factor I’m sure that going to be there but it only ep2. Anyway as an aspiring screen writer I love their dynamic.

Anyway I did not even know Oguri had gotten married to Yamada Yu who is an actress she was the bad girl in Mei-chan no Shitsuji. So congrats to them. Her show premiered last week as well The woman who can see murder. Scared the mess out of me why did I watch it at night big mistake. The poster was misleading it had a pink background on dramacrazy so I thought it was going to be a funny detective show little did I know. Its spooky at least to me it is.

Oh this weekend I’m going for a test drive so it will be my first official time driving a car. I am nervous but in a good way. I wonder I should practice on one particular thing.

    • 13.1 Licia

sorry for the typos and I meant to say draw out each other not each either

    • 13.2 zgznoona

I agree with you about IDID, the wasted too much time going in circles about the secret paternity, and it would have been better to see those two overcoming the obstacles of pregnancy together.
I started watching the first episode of jdrama Vision. In the site I’m watching it is labeled as mystery. I hope is not too spooky, I don’t do good with scary movies.
Good luck on your diving exam

    • 13.3 Sierrablue

I will have to give Rich Man, Poor Woman another shot. I watched the premiere last week while i was in Japan and it seemed so dull. Definitely not giving up on it yet after your thoughtful post, Licia :)

Way behind on all of my shows due to my traveling (Brazil, Germany and Japan within the last 6 weeks) therefore only caught up on Gentlemen’s Dignity. It is the easiest to watch for me, must be because these guys are only a wee bit older than I am, their lifestyle and way to deal with things seem more real, although the story is silly.

Kind of worried now to go to crowded public places, was looking forward to watching Batman this weekend, will hold off for a bit and just go during the day. Paranoia, I know…

    • 13.4 alua

Also agree on IDID. I like a lot about the message it sends out, even if not everything was done perfectly.

      SPOILER ALERT

Some of the final bits didn’t quite makes sense to me (so Ji-An and Tae Kwang don’t see each other for a few months because they are each too busy with work?!?!? And they go from that to being together forever? Well, JI proposing – even if under the influence of being in labour – was very nice, because, hell yeah, I’m all for women proposing!).

      END SPOILERS

Oh! Great to hear another voice of support for Rich Man, Poor Woman. Himono mentioned it to me (she’s recapping it), so I was going to start watching it.

Randomly stumbled across Kazoku no Uta the other day, liked the synopsis and the fact the Odigiri Joe is the lead and ended up marathoning it in one night. The first 10 minutes of it are be silly (recapping the past), but the rest is hilarious! Loved the fact that Odigiri’s character doesn’t change, I mean, it changes a weeeee bit, but you can go to episode 7 and he’ll still be yelling at the kids “I don’t care, I only do what I want”.

      • 13.4.1 zgznoona

I’m mid way watching Kazoku no Uta, he yells too much, but is fun
But I read somewhere that the episodes were cut from 10 to 8 due to low rating

        • 13.4.1.1 alua

That would explain why the ending felt a bit rushed…

Yeah, he yells a lot and at first I couldn’t get used to it. Over time, however, I think I started to appreciate it – because he stays true to his character. It’s selfish and terrible in one way, but in another it’s actually really something to be appreciated.

And I just love how the kids pick up how he is and, in a way, start beating him with his own things. (This gets more obvious the longer you watch.) The whole word play – it’s rock and roll, it’s dynamite and whenever he goes Keith says…… totally cracked me up.

      • 13.4.2 oftheshore

Yay for Rich Man, Poor Woman love! I’m really enjoying it so far.

        • 13.4.2.1 alua

just watched it and the only regret I have is that I can’t marathon all of it yet! Only two episodes so far!

          • 13.4.2.1.1 oftheshore

My thoughts exactly – I was a living version of one of those rage comics when I realized I had to wait until next week to find out what happens next!

          • 13.4.2.1.2 alua

Do you know what day it screens?

          • 13.4.2.1.3 oftheshore

I think it’s on on Mondays.

          • 13.4.2.1.4 himonogirl

welcome to hell (codename: Live Broadcast), darling.

    • 13.5 himonogirl

      THIS!

He’s not a zaibatsu heir (that was Domyoji XD) and represents the self-made man. I’ll go ahead and quote my own recap to say that he’s: “Pitted against Chihiro who, with her prestigious education, is a perfect product of the elite class.”

So far (2 episodes, T__T) I like that they’re complementing each other rather than being at each other’s throats.

A little note for Yamada Yuu: Cheaty Man, Sad Woman.

  14. 14 Fab

Oh hi all! Love to read OT everytime.
I am fasting and bored, not hungry though, TG.

Big is really throwing it out there, I deeply hope that the Hong Pros have a huge, massive, mind-blowing finale episodes!

    Gentlemen’s dignity is awful. Period.

    • 14.1 ahjummabunny

my friend is fasting and sending me text messages with “I want Bacon”. I don’t think she is bored because I mentioned that I would consume the bacon in her stead and send a video.

        Hi!

        What Cynthia says. :-)

I am reaaaally having a hard time finishing GD, should I just read recaps?

    • 15.1 Sierrablue

I just read your post and had to giggle, isn’t it refreshing how people’s taste differs. Just read the recaps, they are written really well, you’ll enjoy them :)

  16. 16 zgznoona

    Happy OT everyone!!!
I woke up to no running water. “GREAT” I didn’t receive any notice but I’m assuming the maintenance people are working on something in the community, and the water will be back “soon”.
In the drama world I’ll watch today IDID Final, 15 was adorable in so many ways, that I hope the ending is good. Though one thing I don’t like about this drama some those long daydreaming scenes. I have to be there wondering if what I’m watching is their imagination or what it’s really happening.
I’m excited about Arang and the Magistrate, and wondering if I should watch or not To the Beautiful You. I mean, how many times can one watch the same story?
I’m also thinking if I should retake Big, I stopped at ep4, and never look back. Probably my expectations were too high to begin with.
Also considering Gaksital and Ghost, but I’m in no condition to watch anything I will get emotionally attached to, so I’m trying to avoid melo
    On the Jdrama front:
I’m enjoying Rich Man, Poor Woman. Wondering about how she new his mom’s name
I started Boys on the Run, ep1 so far I find it embarrassing and funny
    Also enjoying Tokkan
Summer Rescue, I don’t like the excessive dramatization, but I have personal reason for watching this drama. My dad used participate in the mountain rescues in my region. They wound come for him any time of the day, even when he was at work, and he would leave till they rescued the people or they found their bodies. So I can relate to the stories.

    • 16.1 Licia

I am watching Rich Man Poor Woman. I think she knows his mom name because they met before in the past maybe he tole her. Plus in ep 1 when she sees his pic in the magazine it looks like she recognized him.

      • 16.1.1 zgznoona

        Interesting theory.
I’m also wondering how come he can remember some people like his business partner and the monk at the temple, but not the others.

        • 16.1.1.1 Licia

its probable because they have known each other for a long time. Maybe its like he has no short term memory but with people faces or names.

      • 16.1.2 alua

There was definitely recognition when she looks at the magazine.

I also she knew him (and his mother) wayyyyy back.

If not that, with her amazing memory she probably dug up the info somewhere and remembered it. But, my bet is that she actually met him way before.

        • 16.1.2.1 zgznoona

That’s what I was thinking. Actually, I thinking that she knew his mother and somehow, heard about him from the mother. Like even when the mother abandoned him, once he won some recognition, it’s likely she would talk about him.
I hate mysteries, but I guess we’ll keep watching because we all want to know the secret. :)

    • 16.2 John

I’m enjoying Rich Man, Poor Woman too…

      • 16.2.1 zgznoona

Hi John, how are you doing?

        • 16.2.1.1 John

Other than being at work, fine !

    • 16.3 ahjummabunny

happy ot future roommate! * doing the nomu nomu chua gumiho fingers*

You can watch ghost. The first 8 episodes are really good and then not much is happening. Sign had at least 12 episodes of interesting show before nothing started happening. And it’s hard to be excited about people sitting in front of a computer, but when they’re not it seems strange that they’re doing so much non computer work.

Wow your dad must be a saint, a Saint Bernard!!!!
But seriously, have you ever gone to be a searcher?

      • 16.3.1 zgznoona

        LOL
        Happy Friday futire roommate ;)
Gumiho was waaaay too cute. I miss that character.
I might keep Ghost for later then.
I not sure about my dad being a saint, not even a Saint Bernard. Those dogs are huge and my family is on the petite side. :P
But he’s been always good at helping others

        • 16.3.1.1 ahjummabunny

If I remember correctly saint bernards are used in the alps to rescue people. they carry alcohol, food and basic first aid kits I think. I don’t know how accurate that is I first saw it in a marx brothers or 3 stooges movie I think. It’s the one where they’re moving a piano to a tree house or something like that.

          • 16.3.1.1.1 zgznoona

I know what you were talking about. But they are big dongs, so I was just joking around since in my family we are all “cute and little”

        • 16.3.1.2 ahjummabunny

oh yes, I really didn’t mean that your family is large. Ha!

    • 16.4 cv

      Happy OT zgznoona! ^^

Rich man, poor woman—awsome. :) Really interesting storyline.

Tokkan: It was kinda boring the first episode cause she was sooo weak/kind but it got better–am enjoying the show as the the storyline is revealed.

Now, all I have to do is catch up on all the Kdramas. hahahha! :-P

      • 16.4.1 zgznoona

        Happy Friday cv
Yeap, Tokkan is definitely about her becoming stronger

  17. 17 aoiaheen

    Happy OT!

I’ve been scouring the net for Jang Dong Gun related stuff but theres hardly anything out there. I’m watching all about eve but its really too melodrama for me so i keep skipping the girls bit.

And also, JDG looks much better at 40 than he did at 30. strange huh?

I just saw Yoo Seung Ho’s pic for Arang and oooo my! I had forgotten about that pretty boy for a few months but damn! is he back in my radar!

  18. 18 jomo

    YY
I have a very serious issue to report to you.
You know how I have been looking forward, with you, to KHJ return? ~ZAP!~ OW!
I seem to be suffering, as a result, with a Dr. Jin like side effect.
Everytime I say something nice about his acting, I get a ~ZAP!~ And, there is a tiny violin fetus growing in my brain.
I had THT remove the first one, thank goodness:
    http://dakiniland.files.wordpress.com/2012/02/smallest-violin.jpg
but I am afraid that won’t keep it from recurring.

    Watch:
KHJ is my fav of all time. ~ZAP!~
    OW!

I think KHJ is hotter than Lee Jung Jae.
    ~ZAP!~~ZAP!~ OW! OW!

KHJ and Shin Ha-Kyun are at the same level of acting skill.
    ~ZAP!~~ZAP!~ ~ZAP!~ OW! OW! OW!

I will keep trying to adapt, and schedule a surgery with Dr. Jin later, after he gets rid of his fetus, or after they start dating, whichever comes first.

    More later…

    • 18.1 zgznoona

      LOL

    • 18.2 YY

Hi jomo! LOL! Violin fetus eh? I admit I was a bit suspicious at first of your intentions, but after a long discussion with myself in voiceover, and also in part due to my overly kind and trusting nature *beaming*, I have decided to cast any remaining doubts of your mockery (not that it was ever present haha) aside and specially wrote this uplifting song to soothe your violin head, in honour of OUR (note I said OUR not MY) beloved Yellow Hair:

      O Yellow Hair
      Yay yay yay
      Face so fair
      Hey hey hey

Only gotten until this part only, I’m afraid. It’s the gist that counts, anyway *makes impossibly humungous bug eyes*

      • 18.2.1 jomo

        Go ahead, be suspiciuos.

That won’t stop me from opening the smallest violin in the world store from the sea of intruments THT and the Fetus and I will be harvesting from thoughts like:

KHJ is a better actor than SSH….
…hmmm? No zap? Must not be too much of a compliment then.

    • 18.3 Shiku

“I will keep trying to adapt, and schedule a surgery with Dr. Jin later, after he gets rid of his fetus, or after they start dating, whichever comes first.”

      LMAO!!!!!

  19. 19 Laya

OMG it can’t be Friday again? It is! Hope everyone has a good weekend! ^_^

I have officially flipped into full-blown Princess and I addiction. I’m not a particular fan of the actors individually, but there’s something about the Enrique-Kathryn chemistry that made me go look up fanvids to last me through the weekend. (Here’s one, as an example. Note the piggyback ride!) Haven’t been this emotionally invested in a local drama since… since never, come to think of it, though I’ve been watching them for over 20 years now. So I’m hoping with all my heart that it keeps on being awesome, or I will be flipping some tables.

On the local TV K-drama front, Two Wives is airing and City Hunter is re-run mornings… I always wake up too late to catch them, but that’s ok. Would much rather watch I Do, I Do, if my internet connection cooperates. (Although now there’s this “online piracy bill” in Congress seeking to penalize people for downloading and even viewing stuff online. Meh.)

If I can’t have a Prince Jao in my life, could I just have a Tae Kang instead?

    • 19.1 mary

Haha my sister is crazy about Be Careful With My Heart.

She keeps calling someone Papa Chen(?)

And how are you not awake in time for CH reruns? That’s in the afternoon, right?

      • 19.1.1 Laya

Papa Chen is Richard Yap, the lead guy. :D He played Kim Chiu’s dad in My Binondo Girl… idk how he got the nickname though. You might remember him as the chef in the Chowking commercials a while back. I watched the first episode and it was so funny (plus, Aiza Seguerra as a single mom!)… but then I’ve always liked Jodi Sta. Maria as an actress!

ABS-CBN Gensan moved the CH timeslot to the morning, after Umagang Kay Ganda (they did the same thing for Personal Taste before, but I put aside my sleep in order to watch that one!). I usually wake up at noon, during Showtime. Oh, well. Good thing I’d already watched it the first time it aired. :D

      • 19.1.2 Laya

mary! Princess and I and Be Careful With My Heart seems to be following some of your k-drama laws! LOL :D

    • 19.2 Laya

I also forgot to say that in the course of conversation on one of the forums I’m on, I ended up inflicting people with CN Blue earworm (LOVE Girl being the culprit). And after they began looking for other K-pop songs, I told them that oh by the way Yonghwa was in this drama, and Jonghyun was in this other one… and they began googling those as well. Wonder if any of them find their way here to DB someday? :D

      • 19.2.1 ahjummabunny

        LOBE GIRL, LOBE BOY!!!!!
I love that song. I’m seriously considering buying a whole cn blue album when I am feeling careless about money again.

        • 19.2.1.1 come2noona

I LOBE CNBlue! One of my favorite groups!

        • 19.2.1.2 Laya

:D Ahjumma and Noona! /highfives both of you.
I’m saving up for an album or two myself, even if they cost like twice my usual budget.

          • 19.2.1.2.1 ahjummabunny

yesasia prices are pretty good. maybe we can have a traveling album depending on who buys it first.

          • 19.2.1.2.2 Laya

Actually, I saw BlueTory and First Step in record stores here. :D Not sure if they have any still in stock, though.

    • 19.3 Ivoire

Hi Laya, LOL at your Tae Kang shout out!!!! But yeah, TK for the Win!!!!!!!! Where do you live again? In the Philippines? You mentioned 2 LMH dramas, will you try to watch Faith when it airs?

      • 19.3.1 Laya

Hi, Ivoire! Yes, the Philippines, and yes to Faith… I loved Legend, and I need me my Min-ho fix. Even my mom is a Lee Min-ho fan, omg. Now she’s asking me when Faith is coming out!

It occurred to me that if I were to be a career girl, maybe I’d be better off with a Tae-kang kind of guy than, yunno, the other kind. Plus, he’s just so sweet. :D

        • 19.3.1.1 Ivoire

          Hello back Laya,

I haven’t seen Legend and I love LMH as well! LOL at the fact that even your mom is a LMH fan. He must be very popular in the Philippines, I take it. I love the fangirl your mom has become, asking you when Faith is coming out. Awwww, so cute and sweet!!!!
I personally think that a Tae Kang kind of guy would be good to and good for any girl, career oriented or not. Have you seen the last two episodes? He just keeps confirming it, again and again :-) ! *Sighs,* if only we could grab our husbands or boyfriends from the TV or the computer screen, wouldn’t that be great? :-) TK is definitely a keeper in my book.

I hope you will have a lovely weekend!

P.S.: So based on your comment, you don’t consider yourself a career girl? (if I may ask).

          • 19.3.1.1.1 Laya

My Mom watched Boys over Flowers :D Sometimes she still calls Min-ho “that Korean Dao Ming Zi,” lol.

:D I’m a freelance writer right now… I was an editor in a publishing company for the past five years before my health got bad and I came home to the province to recuperate for a while. Not exactly the kind of girl the local guys want to marry, if I’m more educated / literary and can earn more than they do, sigh. The guys my age or older are married, and the younger ones are just starting out.

LOL, if we grab the guys from the TV, the other halves of our favorite OTPs will be bereft, unless we become them. :D Can’t we just clone the guys instead? Put in a little bit of Sun Joon, a little bit of Jaeshin, a little bit of Lee Shin, a little bit of Hwan, a little bit of Tae Kang…

          • 19.3.1.1.2 Amberscube

Hahaha.. I find it really funny that your Mom calls LMH “that Korean Dao Ming Zi.
Meteor Garden was pretty big when it aired in the Philippines at the time. I can still remember that time. I actually left the Philippines before the MG ended but i still have beautiful memories of the fandom. Dao Ming Zi is probably the reason i did not watch BOF.

          • 19.3.1.1.3 Laya

Amberscube, I think MG aired like… more than four times, at least twice on both ABS-CBN and GMA. :D We still have a huuuge MG wall hanging! It was why I didn’t watch BOF in its entirety, because I already had too much MG!

Funny thing was, Personal Taste aired here at the same time as Down With Love (starring Jerry Yan), and one was the first drama in the morning while the other one was the last drama at night– so my mom was fond of saying that we started and ended the day with Dao Ming Zis :D

          • 19.3.1.1.4 Ivoire

Hi Laya, I will be back later to respond to your comment, so please check back later. Actually check throughout the weekend, if you remember. Thanks!

        • 19.3.1.2 mary

At least her tastes are… “modern”.

My mom is addicted to Dong Yi. And now she’s pestering us to find a tagalog version of Jewel in the Palace. O_________O

I’m half-tempted to give her a copy of Sungkyungkwan Scandal and pretend it’s a serious serious sageuk. Haha

          • 19.3.1.2.1 Laya

You’ll probably find a Tagalog dub of Jewel in the Palace (I think they’d still be available since it was a popular drama!). Your mom sounds like my sister. After we marathoned Dong Yi, she’s been pestering me for “dramas with kings and queens.” Maybe I should give her Moon/Sun next, hehe. She didn’t believe me about SKKS! I guess Faith should be right up everyone’s alley?

          • 19.3.1.2.2 mary

Of course, Lee Min Ho is right up everyone’s alley!

          • 19.3.1.2.3 Laya

I wonder what alley that would be. :D Paved with gorgeous men, no doubt :D

        • 19.3.1.3 Makoto

Hi Laya. Is it? That Down with Love similar to Personal Taste? I’ve watched PT and trully love it but I don’t know about Down with Love. I love Jerry Yan, too. I watched him in MG when it was aired in Indonesia, I like it sooo much that I refuse to watch the Korean version. :D

          • 19.3.1.3.1 Laya

Well, sort of, the premise of Down With Love is a little similar to Personal Taste… and my mom is a fan of both Min-ho and Jerry because of BOF and MG.

Down With Love is about a hotshot lawyer who’s looking for a nanny for his orphaned niece and nephew who’ve come to live with him, only all the nannies tend to fall for him. So he wants one who won’t (because he’s sort of secretly engaged to this famous actress who’s always out of town filming something)… and his super-efficient secretary recommends her sister, because she’s a lesbian (only she’s not). The sister (Ella Chen) goes along with the pretense because they need money. I sort of didn’t like her character at times because she was too childish (she describes herself as “just a simple person”– the kind who walks a bunch of dogs at the same time and of course they all just run away with her). But the story was funny, and of course there’s always Jerry Yan.

  20. 20 Eternal

So sad that Big is ending this week :( I hope I won’t be shedding crazy amounts of tears though for Episodes 15-16. I basically cried my eyes out while watching Episode 14. I usually don’t cry over these things (it’s usually the child-parent relationships that get me), so I think it goes to show how convincingly developed Da-ran and Kyung-joon’s love story was. I hope the Hong Sisters create a satisfying ending that’s not too rushed.

On the side, I’m watching Gaksital. Even though the show’s been pretty exciting to watch so far, I keep feeling that the overall plot has been going in circles for the past few episodes. I’ve already listed my complaints regarding the two lead female characters in the recap (yes, Mok-dan has balls, but can’t she be more than a plot device? Rie – still don’t get the point of her. I also feel like the only truly badass female character is Damsari’s fake wife). Shunji continues to delightfully creep me out.

I’m excited for Faith and Nice Guy (it’ll be a while for Nice Guy, I guess). The first trailer for To the Beautiful You looked promising – surprisingly – I never really liked the Hana Kimi plot, but I think I’ll watch it cause it’s so fluffy and won’t make me think too hard.

    • 20.1 Jackie

The first teaser was really good. It seems like it’ll be a lot of fun.

  21. 21 houstontwin

Has anyone been watching the Golden Time – that emergency medicine drama with Lee Sun Kyun? It’s really not bad…very engaging actors and pretty insipid writing. Lee Sun Kyun looks so different (diet? plastic surgery?). Though the drama hasn’t spelled out anyone’s age, LSK seems to be playing a significantly younger character.

    • 21.1 ahjummabunny

probably make up, lighting and that health drink he’s been hawking lately. the significantly younger age reminds me of fermentation family’s 29 year old park jin hee ( she can pass) and 30 year old song il gook ( not so much). It didn’t take away from the story though. they are both great actors.

    • 21.2 AnitaLotti

Can’t explain but I quite liked Golden Time from the start and ep 3-4 have reinforced that impression. The heroine positive, tackles life head on, always gets back on her feet and the hero is a bit of a loser with redeeming qualities.

      • 21.2.1 houstontwin

I like it too. It’s nice when the “spunky” heroine is not also a cinderella who needs to be rescued.

    • 21.3 Hillary

I am planning to watch it after a few more episodes have aired and been subbed. I love LSK (well, love his voice especially).

  22. 22 Ariel

Hey don’t forget Eun Ji-won’s drama Respond 1997, its airing on July 24, I freaked out when I saw Jiwon wearing a uniform and standing beside his young co-stars. He totally looks the part of a high school student, hope JB or GF can give us a post on what the drama is all about.

  23. 23 Rachel

I just finished I do, I do. (warning, a bit spoilery)

It was flawed in some ways, but I have to say it’s the most feminist Kdrama I’ve ever seen. Hwang Ji An was a strong, kickass character all the way through. Tae Kang was also amazing. Feminism doesn’t work unless men’s roles change too. I love his speech about how being a good dad is not just about being the breadwinner, but seeing the baby’s first steps and hearing her first words.

  24. 24 John

    Watching:

    Tamra The Island
    Liar Game
    Rich Man, Poor Woman

    Waiting for Arang …

    • 24.1 publicenemy

Arang sounds interesting; it sounds like a story filled with vengeance and dark humor. Not at all good for my nails and heart and even though I ain’t a masochist I am waiting for it.

    • 24.2 aoiaheen

How are you liking Tamara the island? It started my love for IJH. Can’t wait for him to get out of the army.

      • 24.2.1 John

I’m enjoying it, I’m about halfway through.

I wonder where Seo Woo has been hiding. She’s cute. I haven’t seen her in anything else.

It has the westerner in a foreign land* thing going as well.

        * I’m watching the 98 episode C-Drama , New My Fair Princess , (Xin Huan Zhu Ge Ge ) , which also has a westerner in a foreign land.

After weeks of watching I find out that 2 of the last five episodes aren’t subbed !

Gah! The last ep is subbed but why the lapse? Sorry for the rant, but I want my Xiao Yan Zi !

    • 24.3 Maya

I love Tamra The Island! I need to watch the first 15-minutes a couple of time before finally drawn it to it though. But it was enjoyable and heartwarming. :)

  25. 25 publicenemy

I have placed Big on the back burner for now ; the cute is over and the angst has started. The leads are behaving like noble idiots and I really don’t dig that.

I do I do was nice initially, I really liked TK’s character but then the series dropped its pace, the heroine stopped giving expressions all together and no new developments came up and I couldn’t watch it anymore. It’s just my personal opinion, intended to offend no one but I never got emotionally invested in her character.

Vampire prosecutor has long been on my to-watch list but I can’t really find time to marathon through it due to my crammed schedule. It’s pretty annoying when life gets in between me and my drama!

    • 25.1 jomo

Speaking of Guyliner Prosecuter, which is AMAZING!, does anyone know anything about the second season?

I need to see Yun Jung Hoon. He is soooooo deliciously wonderful to gaze upon, and hear talk and move.
I love the way he moves.

I watched him in ‘Daddy Long Legs’ with Ha Ji-won and loved him there. A very sweet movie.

      • 25.1.4 aoiaheen

Have you watched Sad Love story? I loved him in that. You should watch the YJH bits. He was so cute in that. the rest of the drama is too melodramaish though.

        • 25.1.4.1 ahjummabunny

sad love story is available from netflix (dvd) I just deleted from my key. I thought I really shouldn’t watch a show that is already doomed.

          • 25.1.4.1.1 aoiaheen

haha… yeah. the title says it all. :)

          • 25.1.4.1.2 zgznoona

but it’s releasing in September, not the rush hour in august!! LOL!

    • 25.2 houstontwin

Vampire Prosecutor is so much fun! Right now I’m watching Can Money become Love (or is it the other way around?) which has the same lead actor. You can find it on dramafever.

  26. 26 publicenemy

I do I do wrapped up and I just can’t find adequate motivation to watch the last two episodes and that is saying something.

    • 26.1 ahjummabunny

hmm I think that’s like me and flower boy ramyun shop. I watched faithfully until the last two episodes.

      • 26.1.1 publicenemy

Yeah it’s weird in a way that you go through 14 episodes of the serial, hoping that it would finally pick up now… now…now but it never does and you’re left with a bad taste in your mouth.

        • 26.1.1.1 ahjummabunny

fortunately there are recaps on dramabeans!

          • 26.1.1.1.1 publicenemy

            Hail dramabeans.

        • 26.1.1.2 Maya

I thought I was the odd one out who stopped watching a drama when it’s nearing the end. I dropped both Big and IDID too when I only have 4 episodes to watch. I guesses because both are getting angstier towards the end, and I used to watch it mostly for fun. They were both an enjoyable watch but I was never emotionally invested in both dramas. So letting go was easy. I plan to pick it up later though.

          • 26.1.1.2.1 houstontwin

I dropped them sooner. The best dramas really maintain a constant balance between humor and angst.

  27. 27 -K

Quick! Somebody recommend a show that’s obscure and wild.

    • 27.1 publicenemy

Myung Wol the spy. The wackiest drama that ever was. Last few episodes were really, really disappointing.Yeah, that’s obscure and wild.

      • 27.1.1 zgznoona

I wouldn’t recommend Myung Wol the Spy, that drama suffer badly from the drama out side the drama. The story was promising but got lost somewhere in the way

        • 27.1.1.1 publicenemy

I distinctly remember watching the first 10 episodes and then dropping it and now I am pretty glad that I didn’t waste my brain cells trying to understand the story and the characters. I am not recommending it. But I do think its obscure (the ending is my evidence) and wild (you can’t deny that HYS was weird and all)

      • 27.1.2 houstontwin

Myung Wol was so sad because it started out with so much potential. It was lively and funny with likeable characters. But…aside from the personal issues of the actors, the writing really slipped.

    • 27.2 ahjummabunny

      hyena
but what does wild mean really?

      • 27.2.1 -K

‘Wild’ means ‘good’ but in a way that the drama didn’t garnish tons of headlines or get noticed which seems to be hard to believe.

        • 27.2.1.1 publicenemy

I dunno about how much publicity 9 ends and 2 outs got but it’s a real awesome drama I found by chance.

Best friends living under the same roof fight their growing attraction towards one another- Swoon worthy, really.

          • 27.2.1.1.1 houstontwin

Yes! That was a charming drama.

        • 27.2.1.2 shl

What about ‘Mixed Up Investigative Agency’? It had good reviews here, although the ratings were poor – 4% if I remember reading correctly.

          • 27.2.1.2.1 publicenemy

Never heard about it. I think it maybe what you are looking for then… :P

          • 27.2.1.2.2 ahjummabunny

mixed up is glowingly recapped here, I haven’t seen it but I did enjoy reading the recaps. I think the video links weren’t available if you find it you should let us know. I also would like to recommend life special investigations team. It’s episodic and it has uhm ki joon, and the makeshift family theme.

        • 27.2.1.3 ahjummabunny

but that’s not wild at all. tsk. in this case you would request an underrated drama and get more accurate responses.

          • 27.2.1.3.1 -K

I don’t know, I sorta wanted it to be people’s own interpretive meaning to ‘wild’ in hopes of getting recommendations of things I’ve never heard of or seen.

Wild: good, underrated, intense, amazing, zany, creative, or even hilarious

    • 27.3 zgznoona

      Do you like dark comedy?
      If so try Harvest Villa
in a similar line Once Upon a Time in Saeng Chori

    • 27.4 come2noona

      Harvest Villa!

      • 27.4.1 ahjummabunny

don’t forget kid gang. I laughed myself out of breath!!!!

        • 27.4.1.1 zgznoona

I just add that one to my “To watch” list

    • 27.5 kelinci biru

      Joseon X-files, UFO in Joseon.

A Wife’s Credentials. Its supposed to be about adultery, when it soooo much more.

    • 27.6 whimsyful

Joseon X-files – you can’t get wilder than aliens in 16th century Korea.

White Christmas – not wacky, but smart and intense and very very good.

Once Upon A Time in Saengchori – murder mystery + slice of life office hijinks + romcom

      • 27.6.1 houstontwin

I loved Once Upon a Time and X files!

    • 27.7 alua

“wild”, ummm, makes me think those way-out-there manga-ish dramas. Which is mostly j-dramas really.

Like everything from Kimi wa Petto to Hana Kimi to Hana Yori Dango to Nodame Cantabile. Not sure if any of these really qualify as “obscure” though.

Kazoku no Uta, which I mentioned further up, is sorta wild (but not manga-ish).

      • 27.7.1 houstontwin

I really enjoyed 2 jdrama’s recently. They were both very funny and very, very different from kdramas: Legal High (which is not about High School), and The Reveal is After Dinner (weekly mystery solved each week by the butler).

  28. 28 shl

    Happy Friday, everyone!

Been away from OT for a while – the kids went back to school, and hubby and I resumed our regular Bible study class. And, to top it off, after much prayer, I decided to try out a part-time job after being a SAHM for 8? years. Busy times; too little time, too many dramas! I have been gratefully reading recaps.

I must confess, what time I have has been spent watching Gong Yoo’s earlier work. Would you believe I did not know he existed until ‘Big’ this year? (Don’t laugh, I’m a relative kdrama newbie). So far, I’ve watched several episodes of ‘Coffee Prince’ (after reading all the recaps here, of course) — like it loads, but not enamoured of YEH’s acting, and caught ‘S Diary’ on YouTube — er, don’t know what to make of this one; felt like it was trying to go somewhere but lost itself halfway. Looking for ‘Finding Mr Destiny’ and ‘Silenced’ to watch as well.

Looking forward to Arang and the Magistrate – the teaser photos look intriguing!

    Blessed weekend, everyone.

    • 28.1 ahjummabunny

finding mr destiny was a movie noona pick and I think the watched it on onairtv.

      • 28.1.1 ahjummabunny

        oh hello and so on!
Good luck with your areubaiteu. Did you start already?

        • 28.1.1.1 shl

Does ‘areubaiteu’ refer to the part-time job? (is that Japanese or Korean?) I’ve been to an orientation session, will be starting next week, and am worried that I will find my brain has turned to mush when the actual works starts! One step at a time . .

          Thanks for the well wishes!

          • 28.1.1.1.1 ahjummabunny

it’s germanji???? I think I read somewhere that it’s a german word for part time that has been hangulized.
That’s the worry with everyone’s come back. I’ll be going to school for the first time in almost 7 years next year and I too am concerned about brain rot.

          • 28.1.1.1.2 shl

@ahjummabunny – thanks for explaining; love learning new words! As for thr studies, that’s mighty brave of you! Jia you! (Chinese, literally ‘pour oil’ – you go, girl!)

          • 28.1.1.1.3 ahjummabunny

Thank you Shl! I want to learn chinese. I have this older neighbor that I bowed at one time and he now always greets me “hello miss, good morning miss” and I wish I could speak some words of chinese in greeting. But I’m not sure if he speaks mandarin, cantonese or what! I will ask him before I study though. Jia You to you too!

      • 28.1.2 shl

Thank you, ahjummabunny! I’ll give that a try.

    • 28.2 erinthelibrary

“Finding Mr. Destiny” and “Silenced” just became available on Netflix instant if you have that. (They must have been paying attention to my silent pleas!)

      • 28.2.1 shl

Not on Netfix, but will check it out regardless. Thank you!

  29. 29 Liz

I’d like to find some KDramas that I’ve missed (recent enough to be available on Netflix, Hulu, CrunchyRoll, Vicki, or DramaFever) that I can use as “fill-ins” when there are no new episodes of dramas I’m following. So…if you see something I’ve missed in the list below, give me your suggestions!

I like romantic comedies the best. Melodramas are ok if they are not depressing like Fashion King. I haven’t gotten as much into the historical ones, but will consider if I hear they’re really good. I haven’t gotten really into action dramas, but will consider if there is a strong romance element.

Loved: Best Love/Greatest Love, Big (in progress), Bridal Mask (in progress), My Girlfriend is a Gumiho, Queen In Hyun’s Man

Liked: Bachelors Vegetable Store, Bad Couple, Boys Before Flowers, Coffee Prince, Flower Boy Ramyun Shop, Goong, Heartstrings, I Do I Do, King 2 Hearts, Lie to Me, Me Too Flower, My Princess, Playful Kiss, Rooftop Prince, Secret Garden, You’re Beautiful

Meh: Bachelor’s Vegetable Store, Color of Woman, Couple or Trouble, I need Romance 2012 (in progress), Its OK Daddy’s Girl

Disliked: Fashion King (liked till halfway through, hated the ending),

Didn’t Finish (could be a dislike or could be just bored with it): Ghost, History of the Salaryman, Love Rain, My Name is Kim Samsoon, Operation Proposal, Pasta, Shut Up Flower Boy Band, Royal Family

    • 29.1 ahjummabunny

I think romance in action is always bad! I’ve never seen it done right. It’s so annoying to see the damsel in distress story over and over again, and then when there’s a character who isn’t a damsel in distress they usually make her into one anyway.
      Ahem.

There’s no wrong way to start watching historical dramas, just choose one. They are all pretty much the same the characters you love won’t be legends if they stay alive, every body wants their son to be the next king, every body wants to and does reunite with their first love only to be cruelly separated again.

If you haven’t seen any you should watch the dramas by the writer kim ji woo. She is big on forgiveness, second chances and they are usually very thrilling. I started with fermentation family and I followed that up with rebirth/resurrection but I think the devil is a good place to start.

    • 29.2 Lovebug

So some of my favorite dramas are not the super populars ones but if you like sweet rom coms they may be up your alley! So I would suggest Dr. Champ, Babyfaced beauty and probably my favorite Drama’s of all time is Prosecutor Princess. Oh and Personal preference which was popular.
The funny thing is that with almost all of those I hesitated to watch them because of the premise but ended up loving them.

      • 29.2.1 ahjummabunny

I second the doctor champ recommendation. I liked a lot of personal taste pre-revaltion ( as it always goes with me).

        • 29.2.1.1 zgznoona

I also vote for Dr Champ, though the ending was a bad joke. I won;t give details.
In any case the main couple were super cute together.
Personal Taste was my first, so no complains with that one. I love even its flaws

          • 29.2.1.1.1 Lovebug

Yeah the end of Personal Preference was somewhat of a let down, but its still a drama i really enjoyed watching. Its is by no means perfect.

          • 29.2.1.1.2 ahjummabunny

mostly it was jung gyu woon who was cute. I like lead girl but jung gyu woon is the real treat there.

    • 29.3 shl

How about cutting your on teeth on ‘Tree with Deep Roots’ as a historical drama (although it’s probably more ‘faction’ than than historical)? Only 24 episodes, whereas the true-blue sageuks tend to run to 60-plus episodes.

    • 29.4 Mashimomo

Hi Liz! I enjoyed The Man Who Can’t Get Married, it’s a very light rom-com and the very first Kdrama that I’ve watched. I promise you there are no makjang/overly dramatic events that happened just good old fashioned fun. Oh I know you said you were open to action dramas, I also recommended City Hunter since you like BBF (Hellooooo Lee Min Ho!!!) it’s a good combination of funny, action, angst and romance. TMWCGM and City Hinter are on Viki and Netflix. Happy watching!

    • 29.5 amee

I’d really recommend The Woman Who Still Wants to Marry! It’s a light rom-com and it’ll make you warm and fuzzy watching it :)
My personal favorite historical was The Princess’ Man, and you won’t be disappointed once you get past the first few slow episodes.

      • 29.5.1 Lovebug

The Princess Man, is soo good. I still get Verklempt when ever I think about it. Sigh

        • 29.5.1.1 Maya

I just marathoned it last weekend. It’s so good. There’s so much tension in it that I need to take a break in between the episodes. But I love it.

    • 29.6 kelinci biru

our only different opinion is Shut Up and Lie to me. i will switched them. love shut up. disliked lie to me.

anyway, i still have some recommendation :

light dramas : What’s up fox and 9 ends 2 outs, full house.

still romance but more serious : ruler of your own world and a wife’s credentials.

      try Dream High too

      • 29.6.1 kelinci biru

and sungkyunkwan scandal, also agree with amee on The woman who still want to marry and The princess man.

        and sassy girl chun hyang.

        ok. i stop now.

    • 29.7 LizJ

Great recommendations, thanks to all who posted. I like that some of these older dramas are on Netflix, which seems to me to have the highest quality streams on my iPad and roku. Love DramaFever, but every evening (EST time) it is stuttering and pixelatiing. Viki too. I avoid Hulu Plus most of the time because of the tons of commercials. Speaking do commercials, has anyone noticed that if you catch a really new episode on Viki, sometimes the commercials aren’t in place yet? At any rate, they have less commercials than Hulu.

      • 29.7.1 Mashimomo

Speaking of old timey dramas, husband decided that he wants to watch Winter Sonata on Netflix (heh). Its so hilarious coz at one point we were both staying up late, him watching Secret Garden and i was watching the King 2 Hearts. We have been super busy these days that we had only watched episode 1. It’s a rarity for me as I usually marathon dramas like there’s no tomorrow and like you, I prefer rom com light dramas but this one reels me in. Moreso because I take note of the production difference between dramas then and now, not too stylish actors/actress which is quite the norm these days I find. I’m hoping we can can watch at least 2 more tonight.
With Viki i find the same, they do show more commercials on newer dramas. Was so frustrating when they show it while I was watching Queen In Hyun, I just want to see them to kiss already dangit. Love my Roku too, I wish Viki can develop something for them as well.

    • 29.8 Eternal

Fashion King was just .. terrible.

I think you should watch The Woman Who Still Wants to Marry. So cute, yet realistic. And Kim Bum! 9 Ends 2 Outs is also cute, but not terribly exciting. And Dream High! And Delightful Girl Choon-hyang!

I think a lot of people have made these suggestions already, but yes, I think you definitely try these out :D

    • 29.9 houstontwin

Its interesting how much tastes vary! My twin sister and I are following different dramas. I really love Ghost and she is bored by it.

  30. 30 sang

i do i do ended but i wished it was longer than 16 epis! overall it was entertaining drama, i’ll miss watching it! now i gotta find another drama maybe My Beloved altho i’m still following Gentleman’s Dignity.

happy w/end DB, JV, GF & all

  31. 31 kewbie

Happy Friday, all! Typing here in Hilton Head on the last day of my vacation. Caught a few of the dramas that I watch, but only in bits and pieces, due to the stinky wireless internet where we were staying! Otherwise, a pretty good vacay all in all. Hope you all are well today!

  32. 32 shel

Good morning, chingus! It’s been so long since I was on a Friday OT (other than a few comments here and there) that I don’t recognize most of the names anymore.

Life is crazy, hectic, etc House full of people for summer (yay!), Dad’s house next door was full until this morning and they headed back to Arizona. I’m going in two weeks for my nephews wedding. Can’t believe he’s getting married in Arizona in August. I hate heat. Ugh. But, I love the kid, I’ll be there. Had a new great-niece born yesterday, she’s a cutie. Makes 80-something “greats”….lost track after 80, lol.

I’ve scaled WAY back on the kdrama thing. Partly due to time constraints and partly due to real life drama stirred up by my Dramaqueen sister. She certainly spoils me for any melodramas, cuz I just don’t need any more of that, lol.

But, I’m watching BIG and AGD, both of which I like. AGD, I love the guys. My favorite part of every ep is usually the little flashback at the beginning, although the one last week had me sobbing. BIG, I just love Gong Yoo…he has the most expressive face. But I’m ready for him to NOT BE CRYING anymore. I’ve heard a hundred theories about how it should end. As long as GY is smiling, I’ll be happy.

OK…gotta get lunches for “the boys” to take to work ready. (my son is here for the summer on a law internship).

Welcome to anyone who has showed up new in the last couple of months, and hey to all my “old” chingus…

    Have a happy weekend…

    • 32.1 cv

      Hi Shel!

Have a great weekend! Sound like your summer is a blast! Love weddngs! Happy times–start of new life, etc.

  33. 33 trotwood

I am failry new to Kdrama world (only a year), but I kept hearing references to the movie The Classic. As a treat from finally learning the 25 new phrases from my second Korean language course (I’m starting to think I am too old to learn a new language), I watched The Classic. Oh my. Beautiful. And so many people I recognized are in it. When the men show up at the river with the first main lead’s ashes I started sobbing out loud to the point that my daughter even stopped watching her videos and came into the room to see if I was okay. Jo Seung Woo, where have you been my whole life?!?! Actually, now I realize I need to learn Korean, so I can travel to Korea and see al the musicals he is in since apparently he does way more of these than films. Has any one seen The Perfect Game? Is it out with English subs?

  34. 34 publicenemy

Okay random, totally off topic question. Have you ever ice skated? You know I saw this Bollywood movie where the hero and heroine twist and twirl all around the rink effortlessly. It was only later when I saw their interview did I found out that it took four entire days to shoot that small blink-and-you-miss scene, for most of the time they were falling down their asses.

It made me reminiscent of full house. The drama that sucked me in to the other side and it still remains precious to me, like one of those teddy bears you have which are worn down and battered but you never throw it away because its your dear little teddy!

    • 34.1 ahjummabunny

I have never ice skated. I have really poor spatial intelligence, hand eye coordination, pretty much anything you would master as a kid I fail at. Although I’ve improved somewhat, I’m falling off my bike less these days, I can tell left from right when giving directions, ice skating might be the death of me.

      • 34.1.1 publicenemy

From what I heard it hurts pretty bad. My friend went for it and sadly her arm went numb for entire two weeks after that. She was complaining about how she’d hurt her bum badly!

I am like you, find it difficult to walk withoit falling on flat surfaces.Cheers to us lesser mortals who have problem with the whole hand eye coordination thing.

      • 34.1.2 publicenemy

From what I heard it hurts pretty bad. My friend went for it and sadly her arm went numb for entire two weeks after that. She was complaining about how she’d hurt her bum badly!

I am like you then, i find it difficult to walk without falling on flat surfaces.Cheers to us lesser mortals who have problem with the whole hand eye coordination thing.

    • 34.2 Maya

I love ice skating! I used to ice skate at least once a month before. I think I was a decent skater, but never to the point where I could twist and twirl. And I have fallen on my butt before. But believe me, the pain from the fall didn’t hurt as much as the embarrassment though. :)
Btw, I love Full House, it was my first ever Korean trendy drama. So I always have a fond memory of it.

    • 34.3 kewbie

I for one, have ice skated, taken lessons, and have fallen down. It’s fun, but learning can be hard work, and falling down hurts! Take it from me.

      • 34.3.1 publicenemy

I can only imagine the sheer embarrassment. I hope that there are novices all around me when I give it a try so that when I fall down I don’t feel out of place.

Full house was the serial that bought me to the other side actually. I stumbled upon in by chance when one of our local channels started showing dramas from all around the world and needless to say I was hooked and so was the rest of my family. I didn’t know much about k-dramas then but then I searched for it over the internet and found entire subbed dramas on some site. There has been no looking back since then. The hallyu bug had already bit me. Hard.

  35. 35 clover

Drama I need someone to make ASAP #2:

I need to see Gong Yoo as a in image consultant hired by a chaebol ( Park Yeong-gyoo from I Do, I Do) to help his ultra shy /agorophobic daughter (Lee Si-yeong from Wild Romance) because he is trying to marry her off.

    Hong Sister Twist (optional):

Gong Yoo is really some sort of luck God. He falls in love with his ‘client’ and is told if he wants to stay with her he has to give up being a God.

    Alright, make it happen…NOW!

    • 35.1 Lovebug

Um I will so watch!!! Also Lee Si young is Awesome – I became a fan for life after watching her in Birth of the rich! She is a even better actress than I thought especially after seeing her real life persona in WGM.

    • 35.2 ahjummabunny

do you know after reading the credits for the dramas ( you should see me using translate to hodgepodge words until I find the right one!) I’ve realized that a lot of dramas start as ideas by someone else that are then written by our favorite writers. So, maybe you should submit your ideas to broadcasting stations. This one sounds too much like birth of the rich for me. By the way the drama that I would really like to see is that story told at the beginning of birth of the rich without the lee bo young, lee si young stuff. Just him going from rich guy, to rich guy until he finds his father.

    • 35.3 tapioca pearl

As long as Lee Si-young’s character doesn’t get tossed aside and pushed into the background a la Wild Romance aka Waste of Time/Shame on You/WTF/Only-Stuck-With-You-Just-to-Finish-Your-16-Episodes-Although-I-Don’t-Know-Why/Torture.

Sorry, that drama disappointed me till no end. I’ve never had such a negative response to a drama before (and I love the lead actors!). Hopefully their next projects will have writers/directors/producers who know what they’re doing and how to use their actors properly.

      • 35.3.1 Hillary

@tapioca pearl: I would have never guessed that you were extremely disappointed with Wild Romance. Your aka list killed me… LOL.

Can’t wait final episode of big.. Well, after falling in luv with miss Pasta, his teacher in Hello Teacher, now he’s falling in luv again with his teacher, Lee Min Jung in BIG.. I think this man maybe-really ever in luv with his teacher.. :D

  37. 37 come2noona

The begging of AGD episode 16 really hit home for me. My Mom died 4 years ago and all I remember is my 3 girlfriends surrounding me, helping out, quietly crying. Those scenes were so true. I felt like I was watching the male version of my experience.

    • 37.1 lennonfrk

I was also balling. I watch the show with my husband and I just kept thinking about how I would be if he died; how I wouldn’t want to do anything. Sorry about your mother.

  38. 38 neener

HELLO everyone!! Friday is ending in a few minutes in this part of the world but Happy OT Friday to the other part!!

currently watching AGD and for this week I was sooo excited that I wanted another drama to fill the gap between the episodes so I decided to watch Ghost and just finished episode 15 and both dramas may be two different by they go with my taste!! :D D

as for AGD, Min Sook ang Dong Hyub ROCKS!!!

and as for Ghost! damn the twist and all! I mean I wanted the Three Musketeers with +2 this week to win!! I’m not sure if I’m gonna like Eom Ki joon after this :(

    • 38.1 tapioca pearl

HAHAHA! happy to meet a fellow neener fan!!!!!!!

did you see his recent photos of cancam???? MYGOSH!soooo handsome!

        • 38.2.1.1 zgznoona

I’m not sure I’ve seen the pics. I’m a really recent fan (less than 6 months). So for me, many things are new. But I focus mostly in his/their work, rather than magazines.
Did you vote for the concert?

          • 38.2.1.1.1 neener

oh I see!!! a new fan is always welcome to the fandom!!!!!

haven’t voted yet and I probably won’t….it’s just toooooo hard to pick a song! hahaha

          • 38.2.1.1.2 zgznoona

I know, it took me forever to decide and I’m already thinking I should have chose other songs

          • 38.2.1.1.3 neener

hahahaha! I’d choose Carry On to be part of my choices, that’s for sure! :D I’ve been wanting to see it live!

how many songs can you choose?

  39. 39 amee

My parents are into watching dramas at the moment and they’ve watched so many – but they keep saying the best drama is LIE TO ME. They are just so obsessed with it it’s ridiculous. (My mom’s having a crush on Kang Ji Hwan now….) I just think they like Yoon Eun Hye and the lack of story, because they never understand anything deep…….
I don’t know what other dramas to show them now.

    • 39.1 cv

IF it’s rom-com: Best Love and Secret Garden would be awsome if they haven’t seen it yet. ^^

IF they just want o watch straight love story without any second leading trying to steal first lead, Queen In Hyun’s man.

Want a tear jerker? The movie: The Classic—I cried in this one. (sigh)

      Action: City Hunter

      Medical thriller/precedure: God’s Quiz–season 1, 2, 3

    • 39.2 ahjummabunny

ha ha. This is so cute. I think it’s like me starting my sister christine with samsoon and then trying to get her to watch royal family ( which I loved ji sung is awesome) It’s so hard to recommend dramas to her. I think after she saw the sun ah dramas we watched lee soo kyung dramas starting with lawyers of dae han minguk. Anyway what I mean is just let them watch all the popular ones or watch based on actors that way you can get to throw in some really good ones too like soulmates and coffee house.

    • 39.3 Kim Yoonmi

Starter dramas? I’m an expert in getting people hooked.

Try Sweet 18. It’s an older drama that doesn’t demand too much thinking, but it really is a good starter drama. It introduces a lot of Korean society and thinking very well.

I’m also shoot them Goong, which also is a lighter-end drama despite some of the makjang.

Hong Sister dramas are better AFTER they watch a bunch of dramas because they always end up funnier, but it’s worth it to add that to the list.

Jumong is also worth it. As well as Seongdongyo (Sweet Potato Ballad keke) for Three Kingdoms era.

If they are into political intrigue, Dong Yi and Dae Jang Geum are still two of the best in the Joseon era. I like them for showing the every day in an even tone that neither comedy or total makjang.

For Ajumma dramas… I would go with My Name is Kim Samsoon and Dalja’s Spring. (for Nuna category) though I liked Baby-faced Beauty a lot, it’s better after watching the first two before that one so you can appreciate the differences. Also, 9 End 2 Outs for a non-Nuna romance.

If they want totally mindless, show them Winter Sonata. I can’t stand it because my head goes completely numb especially with the talk of blindness, etc, which was popular back then.

And if you want to rip something from the totally fake makjang and horrid portrayal of Korea, Adoption and Adopted Persons, There is “I’m Sorry I Love You”

And then of course Full House… which is mediocre at best (I know I’ll get slammed for this. But seriously, the girl is how many months pregnant and *still* not showing? Can’t afford a basketball?)

But if you watch both melos and Full House you can watch Chun Hyang and get all the jokes. Which will be a good start to doing a marathon of all Hong Sisters dramas ever.

I’d also throw in maybe I Need Romance 1 and 2. Or Hyena (which is 18+)

This list also would mean you wouldn’t get any Japanese-adapted stuff, so they could get used to the conventions of Korean dramas. From here, you’ve educated them enough to take on anything and they are hooked for life. I gave you the easiest dramas to understand without having to go all out like City Hall, My Princess, etc. If you roughly follow that order it also means you don’t have to explain Korean culture to them. They will have seen from birth to death. The Three Kingdoms to the modern era in an easy-to-understand format.

      I do this a lot.

      • 39.3.1 Kim Yoonmi

*Seodongyo Sorry. Hard to find the episodes, but I like it better than Jumong in many ways. It’s not exactly historically accurate, but it does go over some innovations of Korea and do some good cultural introduction.

      • 39.3.2 okiejune

Thanks for this list – I will use it (even though I’m already hooked) :)

    Hi everyone!

this week i started A Wife’s Credentials, first drama in a month.

Last month i watched Ruler of Your Own World and stunned by the drama, its so beautiful that i can’t watch anything less than good now. I was almost thinking of maybe its my time to get away from dramaland (ups). but thankfully, i came across A Wife’s Credentials.

When I was watching Ruler of Your Own World, i lost in the drama and don’t want to speak about it at all. it too good, i was speechless. Now, i can’t stop talking about A Wife’s Credentials. It feel so good that something i really care and concerned about (kids education) is taking a big role. its only the background story but it shows how parent becoming more and more obsess with good education that they themselves make such a huge standard. People, getting 100 on an ibt exam is too much for a 10yo kids.

Its beautiful that its know its background story and use it to make a point but not making it central conflict. also its cinematography is gorgeous..

    • 40.1 ahjummabunny

ah yeah I was like that too after ruler. Everyone in that drama is my favorite. I think I watched it last month too over a weekend. Man alive! I think I watched a sageuk after just to kind of throw myself out of whack and then I watched queen in hyun’s man. I was able to come to back after that.

      • 40.1.1 kelinci biru

hi ahjummabunny, thank God that someone has the same experience. I thought that i was too weird, how can a drama have that kinda effect on me. everyone is so alive in ruler, although my favorite will be the relationship between Boksu and his brother. its so cute and poignant at the same time.

        • 40.1.1.1 ahjummabunny

that last episode is so perfect I didn’t even realize it at first but including everyone in it while playing dreaming butterfly was awesome.

          • 40.1.1.1.1 ahjummabunny

and did you recognize young kim jae wook?

          • 40.1.1.1.2 kelinci biru

Yes, danghyunhaji.. he looks the same (just really-really awful hair). All I could think of was, wow, everybody starts somewhere. Kim Jae Wook as background and Gong Hyo Jin as evil second lead (the coolest one ever).

    • 40.2 gene71632

Agreed on A Wife’s Credential. Exceptionally great drama. Reflects what the education of Asian society is now. This afraid to lose out mentality is driving children mental illness and suicide rates up. I really pity my nieces and nephew who is in such education system and their parents who had no choice but to send their children to tuition in order to keep up.

Love the love-line in the drama too. That husband and his family deserve what they got.

      • 40.2.1 Kelinci Biru

Nicely said. I don’t know whether you’re going to read this. I have to say that i pity those children too. I’m single and wishing that i won’t get carried away by the demanding education system.

In the absence of Gaksital episodes, I’ve been watching Joo Won in Ojakgyo Brothers, which I’m really enjoying. Love the family, the characters, the relationships, the heart. Actually wanted to watch it back when it finished, but the 58 episodes kept me away. I’m glad I am watching now, though I regret not gaga-ing over Joo Won then.

I am quite looking forward for the end-of-summer dramas to start. Just a whole bunch I want to watch. When King2Hearts, Rooftop Prince, and Equator Man started, I watched all of them weekly, but halfway through, I only continued King, marathoned Equator after it finished, and dropped Rooftop completely. Hoping that these new dramas will deliver and keep me tuned in because I really hate not finishing dramas. I hate not finishing things in general.

  42. 42 Ashley

    Hello everyone,
Happy Friday :) I am home from China, and ready to dive back into the shows again! On the airplane I sat next to a girl who likes k-culture as much as me, and we ended up watching my favorite movie Cyrano Agency together. Our section of the plane hated us, but people should understand uncontrollable laughter is normal during sleep deprivation, and riot-in-church-dream sequences. I have been able to sort of keep up with AGD, but thats really it. IDID and Big I have about 2 weeks to catch up on, and for Gaksital I have about 4 weeks. Not like im not looking forward to trying to find the time to fit them in, but where is a girl suppose to find enough time in the day?!

One of my problems is dramas have been taking a backseat to We Got Married, since I have come home and can access certain couples in eng subs. Holy freaken buckets!!!!! I know that show is not every ones cup of tea, but I could drink that show all the time and never get full. I am a sucker for “arranged marriage and falling in love in the process.” Sometime WGM feels like the live version of that, you know without the evil aunt trying to ruin everyone’s lives. I do not like every couple, but I think that is to be expected.

As to AGD, I have not been able to read the recaps on here so I do not know where everyone is, but does it seem like this show can pull off a satisfying ending? I do not want to put spoilers in case everyone is not up to date with the episodes, but the pay off I thought I was finally going to come in the last episode did not make its arrival and left me alone wondering why I am putting myself through this torture. Ok, that might be a little harsh, but still I am sick of waiting for things you know are suppose to happen, to well…how to put this… ACTUALLY HAPPEN! Writers need to learn, get past the basic story line and there is a glorious land of creativity just waiting for you.

On a happy note, I have gotten my brother into City Hunter. He is so cute all “Sis, this is the lonly k-drama I am going to watch with you… City Hunter is Kick Ass!”

    • 42.1 ahjummabunny

I hope you told your seat buddy about dramabeans!!!!

    • 42.2 Ivoire

Hi Ashley, you are back!!!! Welcome Back!!!! I still have a few comments/questions that I would like to make from our last conversation on that OT before you traveled. I will come back to it.
      Good to see you here!!!!

    • 42.3 Ashley

Ok, sorry about all the spelling errors, and word mistakes. I went to the mid-night showing of Batman last night and wrote this right when I woke up.

      Ahjummabunny, I did :)

Ivoire, looking forward to hearing back to you. I hope you are having a good weekend.

  43. 43 Lovebug

TGIF! Was so looking forward to Open thread Friday this week, love reading everyone’s thoughts on dramas as I have become weird K-drama girl to all my friends and have no one to talk about it with.

So after 14 episodes I am finally on the Big bandwagon. Well probably in reality I really got hooked after episode 12. I am buying everything finally and have no idea how its going to end. Welllllll, almost everything (definetley buying the romance) All this time I really thought Yoon Jae was already dead. Thats the reason Kyung joons body wasn’t waking up. (I mean his body was already dead after the accident before the swich of Kyung joon waking up there)But now they are saying he is somehow not waking up so that Gyung joon can be happy after loosing his memory when they switch back. I am guessing that is not the case but just funky character logic and the true reason will be revealed in final episodes. I guess if thats the case why did they switch souls in the first place. (maybe so that Kyung joon can give consent to saving Yoon jae knowing everything?) Also where if Yoon jae’s soul when Kyung joon visits his body for those brief moments. Anyway i am hoping the Hong sisters can give a satisfying ending now that I am finally hooked.

So watched up to episode 15 of I do I do and seriously really can I have Jang woo. Like seriously he is the best and I want one. Other than Gong shik (who I would also like) from Queen of Reversals I can’t think of another Character that i would actually really want in real life. Sigh (Well maybe Lawyer Seo from Prosecutor princess, maybe). This relationship is adorable and he is actually the one who is more emotionally relationally mature. Looking forward to 16!

I am behind on this week’s Gaskistal – But damn Joo Won! lol I am really enjoying the show. I know some people don’t like how quickly Shunji’s character changed, or didn’t understand it. But for all his love of Korea I never got the sense even in the begining when he just a sweet teacher that he cared or thought about the injustice of the occupation. He seemed more concerned with personal connections than the systemic injustice. Granted he has fallen far and quickly but for some reason its not as much of a suprise to me, or I am just buying Park KiWoog selling the hell out of it! He is even more scary than Joowon was at the begining of the show.

Also just got caught up with I need romance 2012. Is anyone else watching this!!?!! I watched like 3 episodes of the first one and then quit (didn’t want to finish once i heard she got back with the guy) so far am liking everything about this season better. Love Jung Yumi’s portrayal of Yool mae, she is believable, relatable, and funny. And Damn Lee Jin wook is super duper hot in this. Like that shit cray! lol I had only seen Myungwol the Spy before and thought he was cute but he is seriously smoking in this and can basically pull off any hairstyle known to man. I totally understand though am frustrated with Yool maes hanging on to his character. The way he treats her sucks, but they are still best friends and he is a good person, so I buy it. However I am hoping soooooo much though that she ends up with Kim Ji suk’s character (freakin adorable, he needs make more dramas stat) despite the hotness that is Lee Jin wook. Please please drama allow her to be with the hot, emotionally available, healthy person instead of the hot damaged guy who has repeatley hurt her! Please!!!

Finally am watching and loving “Can Love become money” It is being subbed on dramafever and am so grateful. I don’t know how well this show did when it Aired back in march in Korea, but i really like it. I think my favorite dramas are where you really don’t know whats going to happen. I never know what to expect from episode to episode. And after 13 episodes I am rooting for the OTP despite the fact that they are not really super romantically interested in each other yet. Its like they are both growing and becoming fond of each other in a real organic way. Which makes me scared when he realizes the truth about why she is there.(another person to betray him) It has a really good plot and mystery that I can’t wait to find out how it ends. Also Yun Jung hoon is hilariously petty and mean. I love all the quirks they have given his chracter!

Phew i have written alot, but I have to unload all my drama musings here because no one but my cats want to listen to me talk about dramas!

Oh does anyone have suggestions on where I can watch full episodes of WGM. I was watching it on dailymotion but now only seem to be able to find vids featuring singular couples.

    • 43.1 tapioca pearl

I am watching I Need Romance 2 as well. I liked the first season a lot, and I’m gonna wait till this one’s over to see which one is better. I think I definitely liked the girls’ friendship in the first season better right now, but the guys in season 2 are far ahead. The thing with season 1 for me was that I was with Guy #2 all the way even though it didn’t go that way. With season 2, I’m kind of torn. Half of me wants her to end up with Kim Ji-suk’s character just because he’s adorable with her and he adores her, worships her, loves her, named a food item after her, bought her a cute bike, a dork. He’s perfect. She needs that so that she can be the relaxed one in a relationship for once. However, Jung Yumi’s chemistry with Lee Jin-wook is jflwkejowuourwei! And I do love their (non)relationship even if it frustrates me. So unless he does some major repentance and redeems himself, I guess I am with Kim Ji-suk’s character.

Jung Yumi and Lee Jin-wook just need to do another drama after this where they love each other every episode. That would make me happy.

      • 43.1.1 Lovebug

Yes! There chemistry is pretty amazing!!! Which may have to do with how freakin hot Lee Jin Wook is in this Drama. I may have mentioned that before….

And yes i like the solution of her ending up with Kim Ji-suk in this drama and then doing another drama with her and Lee Jin Wook as the otp.

    • 43.2 oftheshore

So watched up to episode 15 of I do I do and seriously really can I have Jang woo

We were planning a trip to the Tae Kang factory together with Ivoire. Feel free to join. We leave as soon as we actually locate it.

      • 43.2.1 Ivoire

LOL, literally!!!!!! OTS, I was thinking of telling her the same thing but I see that you beat me to it :-) .

@ Lovebug, I SO UNDERSTAND you writing long posts about Kdramas, I do it A LOT, here :-) . Like you, I have almost no one to rave and talk about Kdramas with (except one girl, and she thinks I am worse than she is, so I can’t squee and rave as well with her as I would like to :-( ). I feel your pain, and you are welcome to do it here *Gives a warm hug*
I have LOVED IDID and have been singing Tae Kang’s praises for many weeks now, just ask Oftheshore, she knows (no, she REALLY KNOWS:-)!!!! Welcome to the club!!!!!
TK is actually being done (created) but that will take a while for him to be ready, as he is SO WONDERFUL (you know, those great qualities take time to be blended together and come into fruition. They have to be simmered in slowly :-) ).
If it is OK with you, we will let you know when we hear from the factory. I think someone else is interested in a TK clone, maybe Mata or someone (feel free to jump in, if you recognize yourself here, thanks).

Hope you will have a lovely weekend, Lovebug!!!!

        • 43.2.1.1 Lovebug

Yes yes, please sign me up for Tae Kang Deluxe Model! I am more than willing to wait.

    • 43.3 Cynthia

      Hi, Lovebug!

Glad to see that you’ve found us on OT here at DB.

As for your WGM inquiry regarding whole eps – they’re pretty much nonexistent now. The more popular couple videos are maintained in their own fan forums, and are generally split into couples at the bigger sites like KShownow.net. It’s pretty much only available as whole eps when they had their Halloween Specials or Chuseok Specials at the broadcasting station (like season 1). You could try the Soompi Forums for WGM – they might have some of the older ones.
      :)

Watched City Hall after the Fourth try… and it was really slow at first, but really good. I’m glad I gave it another shot.

    • 44.1 ahjummabunny

      city hall chingu pangab ta!!!!

    • 44.2 oftheshore

I barely survived the first two episodes of City Hall…and was glad I did in the end! Some people were arguing about character inconsistency in Big, but – please don’t throw rotten tomatoes at me! – I think Mi Rae also did a heel turn after a couple of episodes.

      • 44.2.1 ahjummabunny

he he mirae the ” please feel free to ask for refills” and mirae the pink bathing suit girl???? I miss city hall kabchagi.

    • 44.3 tapioca pearl

I wish I liked that drama more, not to say that it was bad. The drama was on a roll in the middle section, but it lost my attention in the last few episodes. The romance was great, almost epic, though, and my heart ached a lot for the couple. (I love Kim Sun-ah, by the way, and feel bad that I haven’t watched I Do, I Do yet!)

      • 44.3.1 Kim Yoonmi

I liked the fact that there were no real rivals in the drama and most of the conflict came from the couple’s problem themselves. Made me wish there were more K-dramas that would drop that whole rival thing and examine the couple as they were rather than using rivals as the excuse to examine the problems and solve them.

  45. 45 oftheshore

Hi everyone! Hope your week has been good so far!
We have a radio station here at the university, and though I’m supposed to start collecting data sometime in autumn, I would still like to try a start my own show. All of our presenters are from the UK, and they only play songs that are in English, so I’m hoping to bring in some diversity and play music from other countries. I’ve already asked a colleague from Korea to help out with K-indie, and this website was m main source of inspiration.:)
Have been working hard all week, so only managed to watch bits and pieces of Rich Man, Poor Woman on Tuesday, though.

    • 45.1 ahjummabunny

oh please play 3rd line butterfly and dear cloud. I love their sound. I’m sure you’re including 10cm too right?

      • 45.1.1 oftheshore

Yes, 10cm is definitely on the list! If the audition is successful, I will post the link to the station here (this is unlikely to happen before October, however). ;)

      • 45.1.2 alua

*taking notes* *hopping over to YouTube to find samples*

    • 45.2 alua

If you play k-indie: 넬 (Nell)! I have been playing them on repeat for months.

And 못 (Mot) is lovely too.

Refresh Daemon has a blog that covers k-indie (I mostly read his film blog but occasionally take a glimpse at his CD reviews too): http://init-music.blogspot.co.uk/

      • 45.2.1 oftheshore

Thank you so much for the recommendations and the link, alua! Love Nell – discovered them on Eat Your Kimchi a couple of months ago, and then a Korean friend sent me a few songs from their most recent album.

        • 45.2.1.1 alua

You can probably ask Refresh Daemon for suggestions… he’s super nice and always responds to my tweets :-)

I’ve got 4 Nell albums… when I get some money I’m going to try and get some more k-indies!

      • 45.2.2 ahjummabunny

I like nell too. I think they’re really clever. But there’s something about my youth in the dear cloud sound that just keeps me replaying their songs.

        • 45.2.2.1 alua

Ohhhhh… just checked them out. like like like.

And there is, at least, one of their albums on iTunes.

  46. 46 whimsyful

    Happy OT everyone!

Still watching Once Upon a Time in Saengchori and Gaksital.

Has anyone else started watching the t/c-drama The Queen of SOP? I caught it on viki. It pretty much pure fluffy rom com, but I like it so far.

  47. 47 lennonfrk

This summer is going by too fast, I only have a month left before school starts and then I won’t have much time for my beloved K dramas. I’ll probably just watch The Faith and maybe one other one. I’m taking Logic & English classes so I know there will be a lot of writing and I’ll be busy. Right now I’m watching AGD (with my man, Jang Dong-Gun), Secret Garden (loving Hyun Bin), and You’re Beautiful (really liking this one because it’s a bit different–loving the music, too).

Anyways, I’ve decided to learn Korean. I’ve wanted to for a while now but have always put it off because I’ve rationalized that Spanish is more useful (I’m from Texas, and now I live in Cali, USA). However, I just watch too many dramas and my husband always asks “What does that say? You need to learn how to read this stuff.” So I’m just going to learn it, so when we go to Korea (a dream of mine), I can hopefully get around. Any suggestions about websites or tips to help me learn?

And I’ve said this before on another post, but it really is great to have a forum to share my current hobby and make new friends with similar interests.

  48. 48 ahjummabunny

La Vida es color de rosa y la espacia esta lleno de luz!
It’s the weekend so why not? The weather has turned to it’s natural course- RAIN and so the dratted 90 something is out of the picture for awhile. You should see the cats doing their mad runs about the house versus the lying on the floor thing.
I’ve decided what I will study when I go to school again. My friend said should consider studying something that will match the investment when I’m finished but I’ve decided that since there is no such thing as a career man I will just study what interests me and just work to earn money without focusing on a specific career. I’m going to study linguistics. Incidentally when I was a child I had no career aspirations either I only liked to study and my mother used to answer that question for me ( what do you want to be when you grow up) “A Linguist.” Which was her pun-y way of saying I was talkative. Most people just looked at her funny since it was such a non career versus doctor, nurse, pilot. Ha!
In drama news I started dong yi and Ji Jin Hee’s Sukjong was rivaling my Han Suk Kyu’s Sejong love. But then I read about Sukjong and he seems more like a womanizer and mad man (Korea’s Henry the VIII). I also noticed that our english wikipedia entries are so much smaller than the ones in korean about korean figures. I’m also watching athena and I like it a lot better than iris so far ( episode 3). I wish I could find go bong shil somewhere other than on dramafever even without subs. I just love it! I just love it!

    • 48.1 kopytko

Good luck with linguistics! It will be great to have a fellow linguist here :) . In my case it was my English teacher who first thought of this kind of studies, I opposed for several years (you know, I wanted to make choices on my own) only to realize that I want to pursue linguistics short before the final exams in highschool. Sometimes I wish I had studied something more “material” when you deal with real things and not just words, but in no way am I unhappy. Cheers!

  49. 49 Maya

I’ve been dropping a lot of currently running dramas this week. I stopped watching Dr Jin (which I wonder why I didn’t do sooner), Big (I know there has been many developments, but I’m kinda burned out with it after waiting for the development to take place, but I’m planning to pick it up later in the absence of Gaksital I guess), I do I do (I haven’t catch the last 4 episodes, I don’t know why but I kinda forgot the drama, but will pick it up later too). But I’m happy that both Gaksital and Ghost are awesome this week. I love how the secret starts to pour out now in Ghost, and I love the camaderies between the remaining cyber team. And also how the guys finally get the upper hand. I’m growing to like Mad Cow’s character more and more, he’s just one adorable cow :D .
And it’s apparently the Park Shi Ho’s and The Love That Cant Be week for me since I marathoned both The Princess’s Man and Prosecutor Princess. I love him in both drama. And I can finally see why PM receives so many loves from most of the Beanies :) . It’s really epic, tightly paced, and just beautiful. I have to say that I have to take a break after episode 8 when everything start to spiraling down though. And Prosecutor Princess is just adorable despite the blaring soundtrack. Ma Hye Ri character really annoyed me at the beginning, but I grew to like her more and more towards the end.

Meeeeeeeee! What album???? I didn’t even know! I hope it’s just as good as the first one they put out because I’ve been missing them.

The new album is called Coexist, and they’ve just released a track called Angels – check out their website or YT. ;)

I’m not a huge fan but I do listen to them. Something about their music which just calms you down and has this inner peace thing going on. When my insomnia hits real bad, I’d listen to them and just drift off into the abyss and eventually get some sleep. I don’t mean they’re boring to the point of causing drowsiness but how they incorporate their electronica-esque with their whole general sound is just genius!

Lol, yeah, definitely. They’re music was made for sleep it’s very dreamy and dreary. Not really something you would listen to when going jogging but maybe after a long day at work or school on the bus home.
