Ji Sung headlines The Great Seer

A late-game hero change for upcoming historical drama The Great Seer / Dae Poong Soo, who had a seer and then lost him, and ordained a new one just in the knick of time. Ji Sung has confirmed that he will be taking over the role of Ji Sang (I know, not confusing at all), a powerful advisor to Ji Jin-hee’s General Yi Seong-gye, who becomes the first king of the Joseon dynasty.

Ji Sang is a gifted seer, born with the ability to see into people’s pasts and futures. There are those who believe falsely that he has dark supernatural powers, thinking him possessed by ghosts. When he comes of age in the late Goryeo era, he becomes a scholar of divination, and a reader of geography, faces, and the like to tell fortunes — an area with much influence at the time. He eventually becomes a “king-maker,” who holds the key to a major political shift in the overthrow of Goryeo and the rise of Joseon.

The story will focus on the turbulent decline of Goryeo and those behind the scenes who held the power to back a new leader. Song Chang-eui plays a rival seer, Kim So-yeon a healer who falls in love with Ji Sang, and Lee Yoon-ji a concubine who ends up the mother to a king. Directing is PD Lee Yong-seok of Iljimae.

The Great Seer premieres in October on SBS.

Aww yeah! I loved him in Protect the Boss! So cute and funny. Maybe I'll watch this, I'm not sure yet. How many episodes is it supposed to be? That'll probably be the defining factor lol.

Hahaha I love that Ji Sung will be playing Ji Sang. He is the guy from Protect the Boss right? He pulled off the grown-man-who-acts-like-a-child like a charm. I hope this upcoming drama is just as funny.

You can already anticipate all the NGs where the cast calls him "Ji Sung" instead of Ji Sang.

Is Kim So Yeon considered a beauty in Korea? She's an amazing actress but I've always found her features rather mature.

Woo... I'm watching this for JJH and KSY, but now with Ji Sung as our hero, I am really anticipating this. I love him! I definitely think he is a more versatile actor than Go Soo. But I would have been fine with either one. I haven't see any of the Seer series before so this will be a somewhat new story to me. Most of the sageuks that I have seen are set in the Joseon Dynasty as only a handful that I stuck with were set in the Goryeo dynasty. I hope this one is good.

I heard it was around 30 or 36 episodes - something like that?

I didn't pay any attention to this really....until now. Ji Sung <3 And...I loved Iljimae; it was my first saageuk and thus holds a special place in my heart.

I was wondering which Iljimae this PD is from? The good one with Jung Il Woo, or the not as good one with Lee Jun Ki?

It's the Iljimae with Lee Jun Ki not the Return of Iljimae with Jung Il Woo... sadly...

Although now that I think about it, I was so excited to see Gong Yoo again and then couldn't finish BIG. Hopefully all the other elements will work together here to make a good drama.

Yay! Can't wait. I've been looking forward to his next drama since PTB. And acting opposite of Kim So Yeon? Awesome.

The synopsis sounds absolutely intriguing. And I can't wait to see Ji Sung <33 in another drama. All I could think when I was watching Haeundae Lovers was that if Ji Sung were in it, it could almost be palatable. I'm glad he avoided it though. He seems to be good at picking projects, because all of his dramas were quite good~~

I love Jisung! He is so versatile and his acting is just so natural. He has such a cute smile and he has such a youthful looking face too. I look forward to this project.

I missed his earlier sageuk, Kim So Roo, which with 32 eps, was too long for me. Happy to get another chance to see him in a sageuk, and with Ji Jin Hee too. Wonderful.

I tried to watch all of those eps, but couldn't.
There were a few lather rinse repeat in the middle, and the bad guys were the Wile E Coyote type, which I got sick of.

I am not excited about a 36-episode anything, especially with the fall semester arriving, but Ji Sung?!?!?! I am just finishing rewatching Save the Last Dance for Me, and he is so great in this. He looks so young there; and then he still looks so young here. Sigh.

Of course he is funny and cute, but there is a partuclar warmth that exudes from him (besides the hotness factor people, get your heads out of the gutter!). Can you imagine having both Ji Sung and Ji Jin Hee on your side?

I hear what you're saying about 36-episode anything, 'cause, for me, that will mean more priorities falling by the wayside, but Ji Sung is... the clincher. I am in the midst of watching (for the first time) Save the Last Dance for Me, and I agree about the funny and cute and warmth and hotness. And need we mention (or is it assumed) gifted actor?

Wow! I've been waiting for a TV drama from Ji Sung since PTB ended. Finally ... and together with Kim So Yeon ...

Those are my two most favorite Korean stars today. This will be a powerhouse cast in terms of acting. Hope it rates well too to reward the actors.
