Jung Ryeo-won to star opposite Drama King Kim Myung-min?

Actress Jung Ryeo-won (History of a Salaryman) is currently in talks to possibly star in her first project since signing with agency Keyeast: the new series King of Dramas, starring Kim Myung-min as well, the king of dramas. It’s a drama about drama production, but with a little less drama and a lot more funny. Or so they saaaay, because you know there’s going to be some crazy on-set drama, if they’re going to be true to life. Ideally it’ll be both–an inside look at drama production but with a fun sense of meta-humor and a light touch.

Kim Myung-min stars as a midas-touch producer and CEO of an independent production company, a guy who makes hit dramas and cares only about the money, money, money. He’s therefore cold and annoying to work with. Aren’t all drama heroes? Jung Ryeo-won is up for the heroine, drama writer Lee Go-eun, and a third main character will be the top star they have to work with. I could see Jung Ryeo-won playing the hell out of a diva actress, but maybe that’s too much like her Salaryman role, though she was such a hoot in that.

In this role she’ll be much more down-to-earth, since the character is a 27-year old writer who’s very green and still holds on to the idealistic belief that dramas should be about the humanity. She’s also got a sticky past with the CEO–she was once duped by him into betraying her mentor, and took the fall for the incident that left her disgraced and unable to find work. Needless to say, they end up mortal enemies… until they have to work together again.

And then mixed into the fun is a top star (probably a male top star, if this’ll be our love triangle), who doesn’t know the meaning of compromise and is also a rookie in the biz, despite being so insanely popular. It’s described as a comedy, so I’m hopeful for laughs and if they’re gutsy, some jabs at the industry, rather than some self-aggrandizing tome on art. ‘Cause people, you make dramas. I think with a main character who’s a hit producer and moneymaker, it’s likely to be pretty honest about the business of show business.

King of Dramas is set to follow Faith on Monday-Tuesday and premieres in November on SBS.

This sounds interesting. I guess we will find out if she takes the role in the end. I would be interested in seeing what their take on the entertainment industry is (in the drama), after "On Air" and "World Within," and "Best Love," to an extent, I guess.

I disagree about the males being all cold. How about 넝쿨째 굴러온 당신 with the absolutely loveable 유준상. Kyaaaak I love this show. It's better than anything on right now. It's perfect. People judge korean dramas based on 16 ep dramas only but there are some high quality shows out there...even IF they are like 100 ep long.

For the male top star, for some reason, I see Lee Ki-woo (Flower Boy Ramyun Shop!).

She is one of my favorite actresses and that list....it's a small list. If she's there, I'm there. And I love BTS-style dramas, I'm so down.

Meh, this is random, but it's the first thought that popped into my head. Props to GF for finding a very lovely pic of JRW to use~~

I'm also hoping that they'll make a lot of jabs/inside jokes about the industry. It certainly seems as though it will, based on the stereotypical characters: a producer that only cares about ratings and profits and an idealistic writer that believes dramas should be about humanism.

They should get Han Ye Seul to cameo and make meta jokes about humanism. Teehee :D

Yes, I wold love to Kim Myung Min in another drama. He sure can play those egotistic types a la Beethoven Virus, but he can also be very humble. He has a wide range, so I'm definitely looking forward to this one.

Jung Ryeo-won is also getting better and better as an actress.

I seriously hope this happens, because I LOVE her. She was by far the best thing about History of a Salaryman for me, even though I adore Lee Beom-Soo and he did a great job in it. She was just magnificent in that--this super charismatic ball of pride and insecurity, yet charming and hilarious to boot.

I can't picture her in anything than the foul-mouth spoilt-brat YeoChi! hahaha...

I hope this new drama will launch her career even further. She is so unique.

I guess I must have missed any of the roles featuring Jung Ryeo Won where she didn't deliver the goods because I've always found her to be outstanding. But, I've only seen four of her dramas and one movie. Anyway, I'll be stoked to see her again.

'Kim Bok-shil-a', Fighting!!! :)

Super Junior's Choi Siwon has been rumored as the 3rd lead, he's apparently "considering it favorably", but don't they all say that when they don't want to deny or confirm it. Lol.
