Jo In-sung and Song Hye-gyo confirm melodrama
by | September 28, 2012 | 120 Comments

Confirmations are in for the cast of the upcoming melodrama That Winter, The Wind Blows, the latest project from star writer Noh Hee-kyung (Padam Padam, Worlds Within, Goodbye Solo). Song Hye-gyo and Jo In-sung have signed on headline, and the drama has scored a broadcaster as well. It’ll be on KBS’s 2013 slate, though no word yet on a premiere date.

It’s a conventional melodrama about “a man and woman who don’t believe in love.” The story is based on the Japanese drama I Don’t Need Love, Summer / Ai Nante Irane Yo, Natsu, adapted once already into a film starring Moon Geun-young and Kim Joo-hyuk in 2006, called I Don’t Need Love. The heroine is blind and the hero is a rich playboy, who for some reason takes on this huge con pretending to be her brother. They’re both bitter and jaded when it comes to love, but they slowly start to change, until the sibling-not-a-sibling part complicates matters. Yeah, you think?

Check out the trailer below for the movie version, which seems like pretty hardcore melo — misanthropy, blindness, fauxcest, and lots and lots of tears. That certainly doesn’t mean it won’t be done well, by any means. It just won’t be a happy world. Noh Hee-kyung is re-teaming with PD Kim Kyu-tae (Padam Padam, Worlds Within) and already the cast is creating lots of buzz for the show. It’s just that both actors have done these characters before, and the idea of an entire story built upon a gigantic lie isn’t the most appealing. But perhaps there’s more to the remake than what the previous versions have done. One can only hope.

That Winter, The Wind Blows enters production in October and plans for a 2013 broadcast.

#%&%*&%$*( – Can’t process right now. I adore these two so much & we finally not only get them back on-screen in a drama but also an adaption of my first Moon Geun Young film as well. One of my first Korean movies and I absolutely loved it, although I hope the drama doesn’t end like the movie LOL.

I’m definitely looking forward for this team-up & WELCOME BACK to the both of them ^^

    • 1.1 AnotherFan

I haven’t seen anything with Jo In-sung or Moon Geun Yong in it but I have heard all kinds of good things about both. And I absolutely adore Song Hye-gyo so I can overlook the melo in the drama as long as she is in it.

I am really looking forward to this! Best wishes to both leads and the production!

    • 1.2 hannah

I enjoyed the movie too. Although the ending wasn’t the happiest, I think it fit the movie. I’m not sure how well I’ll be able to handle the angst stretched out to 16+ episodes, but my first foray into melodrama with Nice Guy is going well, so maybe it won’t be too scarring.

    • 1.3 Hunni

It was my first moon geun young film but also my first kdrama/film period! That movie was my very 1st step into the kdrama world so I’m def looking forward to this one. Though uber melo dramatic isn’t really my thing. I like things with more of a plot. the whole we-can-we-can’t drama gets old after the first couple of eps

    • 1.4 Dana

Can’t process right now. I adore these two so much me too! I just watched ”Full house” and I simply love her, one of the most beautiful and sensible actress. And JIS… no words, I can’t even breath… is it 2013 here?

  2. Mystisith

How can a title be that repulsive and depressing? I’m sorry, I will never get used to it. And the premise… Running away from that tear jerker.

    • 2.1 Katherine

I had to go back and see the title and had to burst out laughing. I’m just going to call this drama Love Me Not 2 since that is what I know the movie by.

    • 2.2 Suzan

Okey, now I’m super curious. Why is the title repulsive? Totally… clueless…

      • 2.2.1 Mystisith

“The winter, the wind blows” You don’t feel like your bones are freezing when reading this? You don’t have that image stuck in your brain?
        You don’t hear the crows?
My mind works this way: If you want to attract me, I need attractive things.

        • canxi

LMAO Mysti, that picture…really did give me the chills.
I think they should have stuck with Love Me Not.

“That Winter, the Wind Blows” is also kind of awkward to read and say and at the same time makes me think “But….the wind blows every winter…”

          • Dana

I”m not a teacher and my english is mostly from tv but I think the title should be ”That winter the wind blew” or ”This winter the wind blows” = Am I right?

          • canxi

Either would have been better! It’s definitely awkward because it seems like there’s past tense and present tense there.

        • AnotherFan

I thought the title was not bad – even quite poetic. Guess I don’t mind the winter or the wind or the birds crying. Just part of our living world and without them, our spring and summer just will not be the same…

      • 2.2.2 Lemon

        The title is simply depressing.

        Ice ice baby..

        • Kiara

All right stop, collaborate, and listen….

    • 2.3 Nokcha

Yup, running away to the nearest spy rom/com..

      • 2.3.1 koreampuff

        I’m with you. JOOWON <3

      • 2.3.2 Arhazivory

        lol. I’ll run away too.

  3. eargasmto_trace_bundy

Darn.. I dislike the movie version Love Me Not years ago… but Oh! Well… I’m on board on the drama version. I would watch Zo In Sung in ANY dramas… anything as long as he is back on drama land!

  4. ck1Oz

Oh but those 2 are so pretty. Like so visually attractive.
But crying pretty… ” running away”

  5. Monona

I’m a fan of this writer, but I would probably be more interested in watching this if it were Moon Geun-young in the tv drama role.

  6. Lily

Well, I won’t watch it as sad stories with unhappy ending is a no thanks!
Plus I am not a fan at all of Padam Padam, Worlds Within & Goodbye Solo so knowing that the writer will be Noh Hee-Kyung is really bad news for me.
A pity because I was looking forward to see a drama with Jo In-Sung in it…

  7. papermoon

OMG! Yay! Jo In-sung is back on the small screen! So freakin’ excited! Absolutely love him! 🙂

  8. Jude

I watched the movie ages ago. Not the big fan of its mello-angsty story plot but was totally impressed by Moon Geun Young and Kim Joo Hyuk’s acting. Both of them made the movie bearable for me (I actually cried a tear. Or two…

    … Okay, I cried a lot)

So I kinda have a mixed feeling about this drama plan. Am not sure whether Song Hye Kyo and Jo In Sung can bring emotions to the story 😐

  9. kekpisang

Yeay for JIS coming back to dramaland!

I love Autumn Tale but not a big fan of SHK. I mean she can act but she’s not that strong of an actress in my opinion and I just can’t see this pairing together.

Didn’t love Padam Padam and The World They Lived In. I guess I have to give this a shot just for the sake of watching JIS back on my telly.

  10. 10 bishbash

Noh Hee Kyung and Jo In Sung. I’m in.

  11. 11 rainy

    only one word……boring

  12. 12 rainy

and couldn’t pull myself to complete Worlds Within…..so not at all interested in this drama….and totally dislike that fauxcest kind of thing….

  13. 13 SH

Ughhhh! Why is she doing this? I love her and am really looking forward to seeing her back on small screen, but this story seems too melodramatic for me :/

  14. 14 im_eve

why are Jo in sung and Son ye jin not in a drama or a “FULL” movie yet? wae? WAE? WAEEEE?

    • 14.1 botbot

LOL. The ship has sailed I think. They were together for a movie long time ago. Second pairing of the same actor-actress is extremely rare. Exception: Jang Hyuk – LDH.

So excited to have JIS back. Yummy yummy yummmyyy

  15. 15 tessieroo

Okay, so wait – the plot is they’re bother/sister? Only not REAL brother/sister cuz he’s lying to her to get her inheritance. So that means zero romance between the leads? Pffffffftttttt – I’m out.

Been waiting forever for SHG to come back to my screen and she picks this? *shoots self in head* And we’ve seen JIS do this character SO many times. *sigh*

  16. 16 Kiara

WoW first we got Jo Seung-woo in a Horse Healer and now Jo In-sung. Yeessssssss do more drama guys, we dont get to watch your movies till months later.

    • 16.1 Kiara

Lol excited about nothing. I thought it was a drama :(.

      • 16.1.1 Ara

        … It is a drama?

        • Kiara

Forgive me I am a total zoombie from lack of sleep lol.

  17. 17 NoonaLuv

Uh-oh… having seen Moon Geun Young in the movie and thinking of how Song Hye-gyo will tackle it… I don’t know… I think I’ll pass or maybe I’ll look into it ‘coz of Jo In-sung.

    • 17.1 maria

me too, but i feel so freaking cheated that there are two heavily anticipated actors making a comeback on a project that seems so BLAAAAAHHH. as JB said, “the idea of an entire story built upon a gigantic lie isn’t the most appealing.” totally.

……but, ah well, it’s still better than an entire story based upon the premise the YOUR BEST FRIENDS SOMEHOW MANAGED TO SELL YOUR FREAKIN HOUSE!!!!! …..sorry, i love SHG, and God knows there’s a special place in my heart for the early dramas, but that i$h was ridic, son.

  18. 18 hawjimage

Noooooooooooooooooooooo! This is ONE movie where it does not need to be turned into a drama. We need no extensions of it. Moon Geun and Kim Joo-hyuk did a great job in the movie, but I didn’t care for the plot. What a waste for Jo In Sung on his comeback. What’s up with all these returning guys picking the worst comeback dramas ever?! The one who’s made the right comeback choice so far is only Lee JunKi!

  19. 19 jomo

    Why? Why?
Why do these long awaited and gorgeous comebackers have to pick this sort of thing? Although I bet SK will eat IT UP!!

The only thing more depressing would be to cast A-listers in a romtraj drama about early enslaught Alzheimers…

    • 19.1 jomo

I meant early onset, but early enslaught is so much funnier…

OK, I will rewrite this premise to my liking:

      The heroine is:
blind bodyswapped into her identical twin’s shell while twinnie is off to the future to track down her own murderer,
and the hero is a rich playboy nutty professor, who for some reason takes on this huge con pretending to be her brother a rich playboy.
They’re both bitter and jaded unable to say no to favors when it comes to love, but they slowly start to change learn to sing opera, until the sibling-not-a-sibling returning twinnie to her body part complicates matters.

      • 19.1.1 Mystisith

I want this! I WANT THIS!

      • 19.1.2 canxi

LOL that was like reading Ad-libs: K Drama Synopsis addition

      • 19.1.3 rbee

so awesome. when’s it coming out, jomo? 😉

  20. 20 Joy

What’s korea with their affinity for melodramas? Luv JIS n SHG but sorry i dislike depressing shows especially those without happy endings. Sigh.

  21. 21 Rach^^

Definite skip for me, I hate both of them.

    • 21.1 smapon

      lol ^o^

  22. 22 Danna

Ok I think this is funny, I was just doing a randim Full House rewatch yesterday and subsequently contemplating SHK’s acting and her possible return to dramas…i dont mind the premise or a good melodrama with a good writer and since we’ve got that I’m ok with it…and Jo In Sung is known to br a good melo actor (hello WHIB) …however this is not the genre in which SHK shines, she does not have that kind of range or depth…plus if this is a role done by MGY, she has some pretty big shoes to fill, especially since thats the kind of thing MGY does wonderfully…speaking of which I think I’ll have to watch this moview first…one of the few things

    • 22.1 hfkdj

I totally agree with you. SHK cannot act. I do not understand why the writer chose SHK who doesn’t know how to act. She is the only famous of scandalous lady with all of her co-stars instead of improving her acting skills. On the other hand, JIS is an excellent actor who portrayed really well whatever he acts. MGY is an excellent actress as well. I admire her acting skills and her personality even though she is a young actress. That is the reason MGY is a national young actress compared to SHK who has nick names with a playgirl/an inexpensive girl/ a yellow old cow frog/ a flirted girl.

      • 22.1.1 Dona A.

Sure, SHG is not a good actress but your comments about her is unnecessary.
Anyway, I don’t think SHG is the best choice for this but i certainly adore her. I’ll prolly give it a try only to see how much she’s grown as an actress and not to mention JIS is just so attractive! lmao.

      • 22.1.2 misha

lol. why do you have to comment the same thing on shk all over & over again & use diff username. Crazy fool pretending to be someone else you don’t know her just bcoz she’s honest to admit that she dated 2 actors it doesn’t mean she’s seducing all of them. shk is super gorgeous woman she doesn’t need to seduce any man. all she have to do is smile & she’ll have them on her feet! your So insecure! i pity you maybe your so lonely that you don’t even have a boyfriend!

      • 22.1.3 misha

  23. 23 Gwyneth

    thanks gf !

Oh! will it clash with IRIS2 ? that will be interesting.

before – Jo in sung – what happen in Bali ? and frozen flowers, will this be a steamy drama too ? – if yes ! wow !!

  24. 24 hi

how many good news for autumn and winter …

  25. 25 jdkk09

I love JIS. The premise story line did not have a happy ending. I like a happy ending.

  26. 26 smiles

Okay im such a massive fan of Jo in-sung. I have such a girly crush on him too! And well Song Hye Gyo is about as big as they get right?

Its gonna be EPIC – although, the story seems quite hardcore, i’m sure Jo Insung will do it justice…..

  27. 27 canxi

I’m not a fan of Song Hye Ko’s emotional acting (like portraying sadness and crying and stuff) but I like her as a strong somewhat jaded female & really like Jo In Sung O__O

Between the two of them, I think it’s gonna be a sob-fest but I’m down because I watched the movie and I like Noh Hee Kyung.

  28. 28 faith

I loved that movie adaptation ” love me not” it was special, portrayal was so delicate, I loved it a lot.

  29. 29 crazedlu

Fast forwarded through the trailer and overdosed on melo. Blech.

  30. 30 Christy

I wasn’t too impressed when I watched the movie – don’t get me wrong, the cinematography it was good and the portrayals were impressive, but it just rubbed me the wrong way with the incessant makjang. But for Jo In Sung, I may have to tune in for at least an episode or two of this 🙂

  31. 31 Fafa

I have seen the movie version. It was so saddening I am not sure I’d be able to watch the drama without tears flowing!

  32. 32 graygirl

    Haaa… Sad melodrama again??

  33. 33 toritorisan

Yay! I feel like I’ve been waiting forever for JIS to come back to dramas! This is great news indeed. Both JIS and SHG were two stars that really got me hooked on kdramas. Although melodramas are not my favorite drama, I’m definitely going to catch this one. The original Japanese storyline was pretty good too.

  34. 34 hottestjen

    wah this is TWISTED!!!
but who else found it interesting that Moon Geun Young played a younger self of Song Hye Gyo in Autumn Fairy Tale and now Song Hye Gyo is playing a role that Moon Geun Young played before???

Anyways excited for Jo In Sung~

    • 34.1 Danna

Lol I was just thinking that too

  35. 35 lizzie

I really liked the movie but it was really depressing to watch it, but a whole drama? No thank you.

And SHG as blind? Uhhh she isn’t good to melodramas…

    won’t be watching it.

  36. 36 lora

YES. I don’t care about the premise. I love Noh Hee-kyung, I like Song Hye-kyo, and I am so in love with Jo In-sung. I rest my case.

  37. 37 -089907

I like JIS, but I don’t like Miss Song’s acting due to poor acting skills. I don’t think she can act well like MGY.
Also, Miss Song may have another scandal with JIS in the future. She is not a good actress at all. So far, all of her acting partners have been her main scandal lists in real life. Looks like the most important thing for her is making her real lovers than succeeding dramas while she does act dramas because her acting is really sucks.
Moral wise, she is out of modesty and far below the standard level. I will not watch her drama either but sorry for JIS.

    • 37.1 AnotherFan

      I wish there’s a spam button 😉

      • 37.1.1 Mac

I think the # 37 wrote the truth because the true cannot disappear like bubbles. Truth is truth.

        • AnotherFan

Are you “#37” under a different alias? You sure sound like the same person – and sorry but I have no idea what you were saying 😉

    • 37.2 Indi

She has goddess looks, is kind and well natured. Hard to believe that she would have to make great efforts for the guys to fall for her. If she wants, she can have them all, if it’s mutual then it’s all right. So STFU.

      • 37.2.1 Lion

WTF!! She is not kind and has not good matured. She flirted first to them to make her lovers. Don’t lie and shield her bad habits to others dear SHK fans. All world and Korean know she is a seducer to her given partners. You and SHK can not separate from a fantasy drama world to the real world. How dump is she and you!!!!!!!!!!!! SHK fans act the same way as SHK does because how she represents to her fans. She only shows bad headlines to her fans; then, what does her fans learn from her? The same things!!

        • botbot

          -089907 = Mac = Lion?
          Your hatred boggles the mind.

          • misha

seriously she have to admit herself to MENTAL HOSPITAL. her hate for shk is so weird hahaha like shk steal her boyfriend

    • 37.3 smapon

I was wondering when her fans gonna come out and defend her case, lol

      • 37.3.1 Indi

I don’t need to be a fan to defend the right of any woman to date whoever the hell she wants, without suffering slut shame. 😉

        • Jagi

    • 37.4 misha

blah blah blah!!! stupid girl next time try to change you comment you sounded like a broken record Miss
      089907, Mac , Lion

  38. 38 subject

I don’t know what to say. Another remake and for THAT?
Well, it’s easy decision for me, since I think SHK is one of the most BEAUTIFUL asian woman on and out of screen, I can’t stand her acting, and although JIS has huge fan base I can’t get over the horrible “What happened in Bali?” experience – I definitely gonna skip this.

  39. 39 joinsung4ever

Like many of you, yes for JIS coming back to melodrama but pairing with SHG… she is pretty… thats the only good thing I can say about her. So sorry for JIS. I wish JIS will have one more pairing with Ha Ji Won. She knows how to bring out the good acting from her counterparts. I mean with JIS (What happened in Bali), Binnie (SC), and even Seung Gi (TK2H). I desperately want to see JIS’s emotionally tear jeaker once more. He was beyond words in WHIB and thats why I started to be his fans. Hiks…

And Wae wae wae it has to be the adaptation of this movie. I saw it once and I did not like it. MGY was as always good with her acting but I did not like the male lead there. Really…

The production has not started yet and here I am already depressed… :((

    • 39.1 Joy

I have no doubt that Jo In Sung can pull it off as far as acting, love him in WHIB. His acting skill is so crazy good and just the stares/looks on his face while crying, gahhh!

Totally agree with your thoughts about Ha Ji Won.

MGY, I love her in Innocent Steps this little lady definitely has some acting chops.

SHK, I did like her acting in Hwang Jin Yi it wasn’t superb or anything but she’s progressing.

  40. 40 Melmax

I’m watching, JIS is one awesome actor and the looks department just elevates him more, loved him on WHIB!!
SHK was great in Full House and tore my heart in WWI.. and AT… Can’t wait…

  41. 41 cha

I am just happy to see Jo In sung back in drama land but it would have been better if it were a Kim Eun Suk (secret garden/city hall ) or a Hong Sister (greatest love) drama…

  42. 42 xXMzSmilesXx

I’ve watched the movie version of, That Winter, The Wind Blows and it was a bitter sweet ending.
I’m quite looking forward to this drama.

  43. 43 yee

I liked the Japanese version and the korean movie. It was about a rich blind girl who lost her brother. The main guy is playboy or someone that sells his body and swindle girls heart for money. But one time, he got swindled and so he has to go to jail. after returning, he had huge debts he had to pay for. The main guy has the same first and last name as the girl’s long lost brother and so they mistaken him for the brother. He see this as a opening chance to repay his debts, as he is a swindler who get girl’s heart. But what happens when he don’t love and she doesn’t love? eventually, they will fall in love though. 🙂

dramatic, but that’s what makes it interesting.

  44. 44 5stars4everas1

YAY !!! Jo In-Sung and Song Hye-Gyo !! Been waiting and waiting for a new drama for both and they signed up for the same one! Yippeee! 😀 Sad story, but am still excited!

  45. 45 a_diva

*ugh* so disappointed. love love love song hye kyo but hate hate hate melodramas. i seriously doubt i can sit through it, even for her, but perhaps i’ll try . . .

  46. 46 DarknessEyes

this looks nice, i might watch the movie. Hopefully it has subs and actually is on the internet…

  47. 47 new fan

ALthough i hate melodrama!! but definately watching this!!!it’s been a long time there hv not been a perfectly and equally big star on dramaland …
i expect lots of touching between this two perfect hottie!!!cause the lady is blind!!! hehehe

  48. 48 malta

I’ll try it. Padam Padam was really good. And Goodbye Solo was too…

  49. 49 Jacek21

I will watch this for Jo In-sung even if it turns out bad! He’s so eye-candy I probably won’t read the English subtitles anyway.

  50. 50 Mar

So torn. I’m not a melo person, I try to avoid. I watched Padam for the actors, and was happy I did. It was stellar. Same thing with Worlds Within, watched it for Hyun Bin, and loved it. Jo In Sung , quite appealing, makes me think of…stuff, and things and ways, and yeah, so wow, but his film and shows are usually not my style, and I like the actress too, so this is a hard call for me. Thankfully I don’t have to make a decision now!
