Jung Kyeo-woon cast as prince in The Horse Healer

We’re just a month out from the premiere of MBC’s big 51st anniversary drama The Horse Healer, the blockbuster sageuk starring Jo Seung-woo as a Joseon-era horse doctor. It’s certainly a new angle on the medical drama: He starts out treating horses and eventually rises to the highest position in the medical field at the time and becomes the royal physician to the king. Jung Kyeo-woon (History of a Salaryman) will be joining the production for an extended guest spot as a prince.

Jung will be playing crown prince Sohyeon, first son of King Injo, who had a famous life of misfortune. He was held captive by the Qing dynasty after the Manchu invasions that led King Injo to surrender Joseon over to Qing. There, he was influenced by exposure to Western science and religion. When he finally returned to Korea, Dad wasn’t so happy with him for wanting to spread those ideas, and Sohyeon died mysteriously at the young age of 34. His younger brother Hyojong took the throne after their father. In the drama, his character is described as enlightened and wise.

The 50-episode drama is helmed by the team behind Dong Yi and Yi San (writer Kim Yi-young and PD Lee Byung-hoon), and also stars Lee Yo-won, Lee Sang-woo, and Kim So-eun. It’s hard to tell how long Jung Kyeo-woon’s stint in the drama will last, given that his character dies young (Kim So-eun’s princess would be his niece, fourth daughter of King Hyojong), but there’s fifty episodes, so maybe we’ll get some quality princey time for Jung, which would be nice.

The Horse Healer will be a Monday-Tuesday drama following Golden Time, and premieres in October.

so I'm right that he's in when I see the relationship chart of this sageuk. Well, glad that he could work in the same project with Kim Soeun since he seems to love that labelmate of his much.
Yay this is going better and better. Hopefully it'll come out as good as I expect it to be :)

I love him on my screen.
He has a very relatable presence
despite his size and sexiness. His boyish charm almost makes you forget how hunky he is under the clothes.
Well, except for the form-fitting clothes in Dr. Champ. I never had a chance to forget!!

Yay! Glad he is coming back to dramaland! I just might have to give this a chance though i tend to stay away from these long dramas. He is #2 in my trifecta of drama loves. (Ever since Dr. Champ!!!) I want him to be the lead again in a drama stat!!! (He and his character were kind of wasted towards the end of HOTS).

Crown prince Sohyeon, King Injo...did we see them in Tamra the Island? 'Cause I remember looking up some historical stuff and getting really upset over Prince Sohyeon's pitiful life and sad death.

Oh, is it the same team that worked on Yi San? I heard many people disliked Yi San, but I actually loved it, and it's the first korean drama I watched, so it's dear to me...however, I do have to admit...I've never finished it! I could never overcome the death of Secretary Jung (one of the coolest bad guy I've ever seen in sageuk)...when he died and all that was left of the drama was the love story between the main leads, bleh...I just gave up.

Still, The Horse Healer looks nice...maybe I'll try it!!! :)

Yisan was considered a success although it had 77 eps. It was slightly better than Dong Yi in ratings. So I dont think many people disliked it. I liked it a lot but I wasn't watching it on a weekly basis because it was too long.
I loved Queen Hyo Eui and the ever loyal guard Dae Su.

I didnt watch Tamra the Island but the timeline reminds me of "Bow, the Ultimate Weapon". I loved this movie to pieces, I wished it was a tv drama with 100 episodes.

So Yisan was a success? I don't understand why I read so many bad comments about it on the net... O_o

Agreed! Queen Hyo Eui was so cute, and Dae Su was a real TEDDY BEAR!!! <3

I knew it! Glad my memory is still working, at least for dramaland! :D
Prince Sohyeon was adorable in Tamra. It made me really sad when I learnt than he died young. Then it made me sad also for Park Kyu (even though he's a fictional character), because even if Tamra has a happy end, it meant he would have to mourn the death of his friend in the future... :(

I'm super excited to see Son Chang Min again (Shindon), Cho Seung-Woo, Kim So-eun (loved her in the Iron Empress) and Lee Sang-Woo.
I think this is gonna hurt Faith's ratings more than Golden Time.

I agree. Didn't Faith slip into single digits last week?

Some trivia:
Sohn Chang-min was the titular "Shin Don", and whaddayaknow, Shin Don's supposed to be in "Faith"'s Gongmin's historical timeline, as the monk who would later assist Gongmin, but I really don't know if they're gonna insert the monk in "Faith". But one thing's for sure, Shin Don and Choe Yeong would later butt heads as time goes by

I hope they are not including Shindon because he was great in his own drama. Faith is Choi Young's turn to shine and "The Great Seer" will feature Young's frenemy Yi Seong-gye. I believe Yi will be included in Faith though. Hopefullyit'll end with Gongmin's death because I dont spoilers for The great Seer lol.

He surely does look like a prince. And I definitely don't mind having him onscreen for 50 episodes (yeah, I watched every single episode of "Loving you a thousand times"!). Too bad it seems to be only a minor role. Anyway, I hope it will be a little gem to show us a new face (and a whole range of emotions) of JKW.

So, from the time frame, it'll be around the time after the Imjin Waeran drama, if it's Injo and no mention of Yi Soon-shin.

Oh, so Jeong Gyeo-woon will be playing the unfortunate Crown Prince who got mysteriously killed.
And if memory serves me right, it's the same prince in Jeong Il-woo's "Return of Iljimae". Am I right JB/GF???

Lee Yo-won's 3rd sageuk, and her 2nd in the Joseon era. (Her first, if it's the 1st, is "Daemang")

YAY for "Everybody's Oppa"-Lee Sang-woo~!!!

Kim So-eun gives me the feeling she's gonna be similar to Hong Soo-hyun's TPM's Princess Gyeonghye.

She was DISASTROUS in Bad Love and she improved in Queen Seon Deok and 49 Days. As much as I loved Queen Seon Duk (Mishil was A M A Z I N G ! ! !) I still felt that Lee Yo Won was miscasted but oh well.

I felt bad for her in QSD. Nam Ji Hyun who played the teen age Deokman was really awesome that when Lee took over it felt like she was playing a different character. Go Hyun-jung and Kim Nam Gil basically stole the show. It should have been called Mishil instead.
Towards the end the writer decided to please Bidam's fans so she changed the script, making Bidam (who rebelled against QSD in history) the hero lol.
I think she is a really sweet person but she is not a strong leading lady with commanding screen presence.
