Moon/Sun’s child stars reunite in new drama

This boy is going to be so beautiful when he grows up. Sigh. I mean, he’s already most of the way there, but 15-year-old Yeo Jin-gu still has a bit of growing up to do, as we noonas and ajummas should probably keep in mind for the near future. (Fifteen!)

Anyway. Yeo Jin-gu has been cast in a new drama, which is great news; he was probably the surprise star of his last drama, The Moon That Embraces the Sun, since he did such a lovely job grounding the character in his teenage ardor and heartbreak. (It helps that he exited the drama early enough to avoid the frustrating back-and-forth-and-back-again that characterized his character in later years.) He’ll be teaming up with his Moon/Sun co-star Kim So-hyun, who was most recently seen in the short-and-sweet tween drama Ma Boy.

The drama is an MBC Wednesday-Thursday melodrama called I Miss You, and it’s about a man and woman who are first loves (of course), whose love story is likened to a round of “hide and seek.”

So while these two kids may have been a mismatched pairing in Moon/Sun—seriously, she was the lonely wife whose dark energy was so strong that he basically had a heart attack anytime he tried to consummate the union—they’ll be on the right side of Fate this time around as the main pairing. By which I mean: They’ll have a lot of pain and heartbreak, but at least this time it’ll be worth it?

Yeo Jin-gu plays a character who seems reserved and taciturn, but that’s covering up his hurt and lonely spirit. He meets and falls in love with our heroine, played by Kim So-hyun, and that painful first love stays with him as an adult.

Hm. As much as the first-love thing makes groan, I see the appeal in the idea of a love that just keeps missing its timing; it’s the very cornerstone of Answer Me, 1997, for instance, which handles it masterfully and with lots of pathos and humor. The premise also reminds me of Will It Snow For Christmas, which I enjoyed even with all the grown-up angst.

Plus, the writer and director have a solid track record of dramas that infuse their stories with a lot of heart, even when things get heavy, so I’ll say my interest in I Miss You is tentatively positive. PD Lee Jae-dong directed the lightly funny Can’t Lose and the heartwarming Thank You, while writer Moon Hee-jung wrote two successful weekend family shows, Can You Hear My Heart and Smile You.

I Miss You hasn’t yet confirmed the adults who’ll take over the story from Yeo Jin-gu and Kim So-hyun, but I’ll bet we hear something soon. It replaces Arang and the Magistrate for an October premiere.

These (not-so) child actors continuously impress me with their fantastic acting, good on them! And the other half to the moon/sun otp totally killed it ( in a Good way, of course) playing Han Jihyes younger character on may queen, Kim yoo Jung, another moon geun young in the making no doubt.. augh I might not even venture past ep 8 when the adults roll in, il miss the kids and also *spoiler alert* a certain ahjusshi just needs to stop being pussyfoot and man the hell up >.<.

Can't we just have a drama with them, STARRING THEM?
Kim So Hyun was adorable in Ma Boy (who knew she had it in her after Moon/Sun?), and I've liked Yeo Jin Goo since his Baek Dong Soo days. It's time they get their own drama (even though Kim So Hyun technically already had hers), even if it's just a tween show. Hey! Tween shows can be enjoyable too!

I want them to star something too.

I wonder how old the female actress is, but I really liked her in Ma Boy, and yeah that boy will be very very very attractive when he gets a little older. I'll definitely be checking this show out sense it seems like it could be very adorable, and I'll try not to focus on how young he is...

I love him though, so will keep an eye on the project. as I'm now watching May Queen and it fairly standard makjang fare but bearable with such cute actors (Park Ji Bin!), Kim Yoo Jung also adorable. I don't know whether i'll keep watching, even for Jae Hee.

the good news is Park Ji Bin is now seventeen. can't wait for Yeo Jin Gu to turn 17 already.

This looks pretty interesting. I really liked Can You Hear My Heart and Smile You, so I might give this a try. Thinking about it, they are the only two family dramas I've actually enjoyed, so...

On an tangential note, does anyone know what happened to "The Secret Lovers"? It was supposed to be the drama remake of the movie My Girlfriend is an Agent, and was to air after Arang ended. That sounded fun and I was looking forward to it.

But what's with year-ends and melodramas? Tho I'm quite looking forward to watching Joong Ki's Nice Guy.

I don't really go for younger guys but Yeo Jin-gu kills me. Six years older isn't too much, right???

Also, never got around go finishing it but I really enjoyed the first 30 or so episodes of Smile, You. That OTP is forever one of my favorites. And I've heard good things about CYHMH. Hopefully this means good things for I Miss You. I'm excited to see the adult cast~~ ^^

Yeo Jin-gu was already a good actor in his very 1st role in the film "Sad Movie" as a little boy.

Good to see that talent being rewarded but he needs to graduate to starring roles quick (and not just be the younger version of the male lead).

Yeo Jingu as teenaged Yoochun? I'm IN! If they find a likeable female lead that is. But the thing about YC is, he's the type of actor who can easily form chemistry with a block of wood so I have faith the loveline is in safe hands keke~

If I have my way, I'd cast one of these girls:
Yoon Eun Hye (I want her to tackle melodrama for once)
Kim So Eun
Han Hyo Joo (she's busy doing movies these days, though...)
Lee Min Jung
Im Soo Jung (she's never done any tv since MISA, hasn't she?)

Hmm... At first I seems that a hide-n-seek type of drama would be cute. Then again if it's only that, then there is a limit to how many "near misses" we can take before it seem like it's going in CIRCLES. Just thinking of that, I hope Yoochun will think carefully before taking a role that may not progress in a meaningful way. It's near October and I don't see any signs of confirmed roles for the leads.
