Kim Bum joins That Winter, The Wind Blows

It must be the week of casting confirmations. Is somebody handing out door prizes? Kim Bum has confirmed that he will be joining the cast of the new Noh Hee-kyung melodrama That Winter, The Wind Blows, due out — you guessed it — this winter. It would just be wrong otherwise, no? He’ll be re-teaming with the writer and director duo from his last drama, Padam Padam.

The melodrama stars Jo In-sung as a high-class gambler, playboy, and general misanthrope who doesn’t care about anything after the death of his first love. He’s a con artist who preys on the rich and sets his sights on a new target: Song Hye-gyo, the sole heiress to a giant conglomerate. She tragically loses her parents, and her eyesight, and then her brother goes missing. Did someone kill her puppy too? Damn, universe.

Kim Bum will be playing Jo In-sung’s bestie and right-hand man, Park Jin-sung. Jin-sung is a character who could be laughing one moment, and then suddenly turn on a dime and be icy cold the next. Ooh, I can see Kim Bum playing up that duality nicely. The two BFFs meet in college, and Jin-sung is actually a good-hearted guy who dreams of saving up enough money to buy his father an organic cow farm. How sweet. He won’t be without his downsides though, as he has a quick-temper, and is the hothead to Jo In-sung’s cool, collected hero.

It looks like the bromance might be the thing to watch this drama for… so… it’s pretty much Padam Redux?

That Winter is planning for an early 2013 broadcast on KBS.

i am not sure :S korea should stop trying with these soap opera like plots, soap operas are easily forgotten and cant become franchises, even in united states the most popular shows are action or supernatural, even the most liked korean dramas are like that,gumiho,49 days, city hunter; even japan with naruto or sailor moon have that,i think the korean wave is more about the kpop because music is loved!! but in entertaiment not so much as i though, most korea fans are more into the kpop than the korean dramas because they're too much soap opera

disagree, a lot of people here couldn't care less about kpop and action and prefer little silly dramas ( which are way not soap operas). me included.

Yay for Kim Bum! But it's another remake of a movie, and a previous J-dorama.

On the other hand, it should be great watching Jo In Sung and Song Hye Kyo together. It seems they should have been in something together previously.

Padam Padam almost killed me last winter: Too intense. Glad they knew how to give a "good" ending though. Despite its cast, I'm not sure I want to repeat that experience. Maybe I will marathon once it's over...

Great! I hope I won't need to FF all too much because of other characters, as I am positive Bummie will do well. The character description seems like written to suit his skills. Actually, this is his second drama by this writer, so maybe it was indeed written for him?

Padam redux, you say? I could deal with that. Kim Bum's bromance was my favorite thing about that drama. Drama land could use more bromances like that.

The bromance and the makeshift family was the reason I watched Padam Padam so I was pissed that in the last ep wasn't enough of that.

I know! It's one of the few dramas where I wanted less of the romance (though I do love Han Ji-min) and more of the family stuff.

Looks like I'm going to have to watch this movie afterall....also can we have a little romance on the side for our Bummie with Jung Eun Ji's character? I'd like to see that...afterall I don't thing there will be any nice things happening for our main OTP

Kim Bum was good to watch in Padam Padam. Well,at least ,I prefer him as a fledgling Angel than a walk-about wall flower. I must the minority that didn't like that Flower Boy show.Boys looking unaffectedly cool is yummy to me, boys looking like over-decorated cupcakes, isn't. I think , he's shd be good to watch here too .If Padam is anything to go by , then he'll slay it again playing someone's dedicated bestie & RH man.
Jung Eunji ? Is she signed up? I hope she is cos I really loved her debut in Reply 1997. So natural! Hope she's good even without her Busan comfort-speak.

His acting has really improved! I really prefer him as the rough and tumble/serious type rather than a flower boy (which makes him kind of forgettable).

My Kim Bummie is back on a drama?! *squee* I can't wait! This character seems right up his alley as far as his skills go.

I'm just waiting for him to land a lead role as opposed to the bestie/bromance. Bromances are cool, but I need for him to be a leading man, too!

Couldn't agree more! A Bumsso reunion would be perfect! It doesn't matter what the genre is. May it be a rom-com, a melodrama, or even an action drama, I'll be all in for sure! Anything will do as long as we get to see them together again!

Hm. I really like Kim Bum, but it's still hard to get excited about this drama, considering:

A) It's a melodrama. And after Nice Guy I'm going to need a breather from melo for at least a few months.

B) Even though Jo In-sung is one of Korea's A-list actors, his turn in A Frozen Flower totally left me cold. Maybe it was just me, but his acting seemed glaringly mediocre, stilted, and charisma-deficient. But perhaps he's shone in other roles.

C) And Song Hye-gyo is better than the Kim Tae-hee/Song Seung-hun, purely-looks-over-talent brand of acting, but she's never particularly impressed me either. I never saw Full House, though, so...

You can wait until it's over and then give it a try. You'll have a good 3-4 month breather, lol

I liked Jo In Sung in What Happened in Bali? as this spoiled/messed up rich guy. Also in Madeleine w/ Shin Min Ah (this is a movie) and The Classic w/ Son Ye Jin (also a movie). So you can try those instead? (Frozen Flower was definitely more Ju Jin Mo's time to shine, anyway.)

Full House, imo, was just awful. I wouldn't really recommend watching it unless you really really like Rain or something. I liked her character in World's Within (kind of bossy & argumentative at times but she was cool) and also like that drama a great deal. It's the only role of hers I like (of which I've seen). This drama puts her in a similar character type which is why I've no complaints, lol.

I loved the movie,
I loved PADAM's directing and writing (except! the last episode I think. It was weak compared to the rest of the drama)
BUT I dislike SONG HYE GYO and sort of don't really like Jo In Sung either.
I wish Kim Bum was the main character......and someone else for the lead woman.
