Happy weekend, everybody!

Finally weekend! I`m happy. It is my first comment. I decided, to be brave today. My first OT-comment.(and I am the first today...)

I am just watching Faith for the time being. I enjoy Faith despite the notsogood directing. So much hidden potential. A bit more like Chuno-slavehunter...sigh. But the main couple is very very very cute and pretty and funny.

Unfortunately I do not have much time to watch kdramas. Because I have started to study computer science. It is a distance learning course. So I have to study in the evening. Less time to watch kdramas :-(. Panicattack! Will I become a nerd now?? But nerds do not watch kdramas, do they?? So than maybe I'am k-dramabeans-OT-fan-nerd or something like that?? o_O

I hope your weekend is going well :-) !!!!

^sigh^ I knew I wouldn't be able to cope with a social life...

0

Hi swurbel! I'm new too! I've decided to be brave and comment too cos of my addiction to Nice Guy. I was really crazy about Faith until episode 18 when I started on Nice Guy and found it much more engaging than Faith even though they're as different as day and night when it comes to comparison.

But I have to say I love eun sol and choi young too! Their interactions are so cute! And their love feels real and grounded. Not a whirlwind or grand romance like most k dramas but something I'd like to experience in real life.

All the best for your long distance learning course!

Nerds or anybody for that matter can totally be kdrama fan(girls/boys)! It's practically written in the contract that we all sign when we hand our souls over to those life suckers! Success in what you are doing on the other hand is all about prioritizing and self-control. I think I kind of lack in this department but I'm hanging in there while also studying in professional school.

Nerds do indeed watch Kdramas ^^ I am studying literature at Uni and I watch kdramas all the time (or when I find the time to do so). I don't see why we can't be kdramaaddicts and nerds at the same time. Being both is very fun imho.

Hallo Unnursvana. I think I need to change my world view and what nerds are. Literature students are nerds too???
However. The nerds I know or what I called nerds are (hardcore)computerfreaks. They can do amazing things with the computer. They are sometimes a bit unsocial. And they play WoW and/or Magic – The Gathering. And I if I have a question concerning computers they reply patiently and friendly but I don't understand a word (but thats my lack of knowledge :-()
But I`am a kdramaaddict and dramabeansaddict for sure. Love this blog and all the comments. It's fun and relaxing.
Nice weekend for you.

Everybody can be a nerd, it had more to do with their interest and stuff like that. I doesn't matter if they are studying literature or science or whatever. I am a Lit Nerd, a hardcore bibliophile. I am sure you can be a kdrama nerd as well.

Well, I get my views on nerd from the Vlogbrothers. Those guys made me discover my inner nerd.
“…because nerds like us are allowed to be unironically enthusiastic about stuff… Nerds are allowed to love stuff, like jump-up-and-down-in-the-chair-can’t-control-yourself love it. Hank, when people call people nerds, mostly what they’re saying is ‘you like stuff.’ Which is just not a good insult at all. Like, ‘you are too enthusiastic about the miracle of human consciousness’.” - John Green )who one of the Vlogbrothers and a writer as well ^^.)

Happy Friday everyone! Though at where I'm at, it's near the end of the day.

I've been hooked on Nice Guy ever since starting on it two weeks ago. It's my first melodrama, and what an experience it is. For once, the corporate machinations are brilliant, all the crying and screaming are justified, and the hour flies by with me at the edge of my seat.

I'm enjoying it so much that I've even been drawing and painting drama scenes from it. I think this is gonna be my favorite drama of the year. A melo! I'd never have imagined...

Hi, Kika, dear fellow-Nice-Guy-fan!
It's a rare thing for me to get so invested in a melo, but when I try to think of my favourite dramas ever, there would be some melos high on the list. I guess they just make you more engaged and emotional than comedies or action dramas. To cut the long story short, I share your view on Nice Guy - it's the first time when amnesia makes sense plot-wise and is handled without disregard to common sense.

I also want to say that your blog is great! Love your art, especially water-colours. Do you accept suggestions/requests or do you onl;y follow your own inspirations?

And it is Friday again! Who else is happy?
I hope everyone had a good week!

Mid-terms are almost over! Then I have free time again and can I resume my drama watching. I haven’t watch one episode this whole week! (Okay, maybe one… or two. Who needs a certificate when you can watch dramas?) So I still got to watch the end of Arang. But I don’t want it to end! I’m still in some sort of denial that it has already ended.

Thanks to everyone who shared their recipes with me last week! They are definitely going in my list of favourites! It was very nice to try something different, very refreshing.
Shukmeister, your chicken pot pie was delicious! I shared it with my roommates and it made me instantaneously very popular.
Enz, your pasta with sausage tasted also very good!
Ladytron, I tried making the jacked potato and it turned out very good. I’m planning to make the potato and corn soup coming week, I hope it turns out alright!
Because in Holland you can only buy potatoes per a lot so I had some potatoes left and with them I made the potatoes, onions and cheese recipe JoAnne suggested, which was also very tasty!
Mar, I still have to search for a cheap rice cooker, so I haven’t tried your recipe yet, but I certainly will when I have my hands on one.
And Sabah, your cookies! Holy cow, were they good! I could never thought of making them like that myself, they were like heaven!

Wishing everyone a nice Friday and good weekend : )

I have to laugh about the recipes. That is one of the excuses (hiding my addiction haha) I use when I'm secretly trying to sneak in an episode of a drama or catch up at Dramabeans. I just tell my husband I'm searching for recipes on line. Who knew I could do both at the same place!

The recipe is pretty basic, and includes a cup of liquid.

If you use a red wine, you get a hard dippable wine cookie. I've also used a cup of fresh-squeezed lemon juice (my father makes his own limoncello), and it makes a hard very tart lemon cooler that I dip in powdered sugar. I've had a few failures with it, but that's the fun of experimenting!

Required fields are marked *

My mom calls them wine biscuits. She had the recipe for years, but my dad says I make them better ;-).
---------

WINE BISCUITS (Chianti Cookies)
4 cups flour
1 TBLS baking powder
1 cup sugar
1 tsp salt
1 cup oil
1 cup red wine (Chianti or other sweet red)

- Mix together until a dough forms. Using a teaspoon-size amount of dough, roll into a rope, form a circle and twist it once to give it a “figure-eight” shape.
- Brush with egg yolk (optional and I don't do it)
- Bake 400 for 18 to 25 minutes until brown.

---------
If you use wine, they turn out a purple color, which is another reason I don't use the egg yolk - I like purple!

The red wine is where you can substitute other liquids. I'm going to render a pumpkin this year, and try it with the liquid from boiling it down. We'll see how that goes...

0

Hmm, sounds good! I would never have thought to use red wine in cookies, I only tried with liqueur like Amaretto so far. But it sounds great! And purple is my favourite colour, so it can't go wrong ; )
With pumpkin is a very special idea, I'm curious how that will turn out. Pumpkin is very good, I ate pumpkin soup (mom-made) the other day, delicious!

0

FishcalledWanda, I'm so glad everything turned out well for you! I hope the potato soup goes as planned :) That's the nice thing about potatoes-they're so cheap and versatile! I wish I didn't have food allergies, because those cookies Sabah posted sounded amazing!

What dramas are on your list to watch once midterms are over? I'm in the middle of a Gentleman's Dignity marathon. It's good, but I've been really annoyed with the last two episodes. Noble idiocy in Kdramas drives me crazy!!

0

reply

Required fields are marked *

Hi Ladytron!
Potatoes are great, you can cook them, bake them, grill them, use them in soup or make them with a jacket on, all kinds of possibilities!
Food allergies are not nice! : ( You have to be super aware of what you eat. Are you allergic to a lot of things?

I read in the recaps that Girlfriday and Javabeans made fun of the last two episodes of GD, it sounded very funny. Noble Idiocy is one of those things that always surface and you really want to ban from the dramaworld!

My list to-watch is huge! I don't know where I'm going to find the time!
I'm planning to watch Nice Guy, cause it sounds very thrilling with lots of twisted characters and twists. I'm also going to finish Arang, White Christmas and Faith. Oohlala Spouses sounds very funny and has that actor from Gaksital in it, so I want to check that out. Next is Panda and Hedgehog of which I've watched the first episode. I'm also a bit behind on Vampire Prosectur 2, which I really like. And alsoo missed the last episode of 1N2D, so that one is on the list as well! Aaand there is also History of the Salaryman, which I've wanted to watch for ages! Why is it that my to-watch list is always bigger than my completed list?

Are you watching any other dramas next to GD?

0
2
reply

Required fields are marked *

Yeah, you have a few to look forward to!! Arang and Faith are both great, and I'm loving VP2. I'm also watching Ooh la la Spouses, but have mixed feelings on that one. It's so funny and the actors are hitting the ball out of the park, but the husband character is just sooooooo hateful! It's really hard to root for such a jerk. But you should still give it a go. I'm probably being too sensitive.

I started watching Full House 2 this week as well. It's a lot of fun. I thought it would be over the top and campy, but I didn't expect to enjoy it so much. They have it world-wide on Viki right now, just in case.

Those are the ones I'm watching live at the moment. I'm going to start God's Quiz after I finish GD. I'm in love with the cutie King from Faith and hear he's great in that one.

0
reply

Required fields are marked *

Yeah I do! I already started Arang and Faith, but then uni kicked in, but I'm looking forward to finishing it. Even though Faith wasn't really what I expected (or hoped) it to be, I still enjoy it (and Lee Min Ho).
Sometimes it can be enjoyable to hate a character if it's not overdone.

I heard good things about Full House 2, so maybe I'll give that one a try to. The two male actors are both on my list of favourites, so that should be a plus. I'm also in need of something funny after all the dry stuff I've been learning for mid-terms.

Ooh, I also wanna see more of the cute king of Faith! So that one's on the list as well, it's ever-growing!

Your cookies are impossible not to fall in love with, next time I'm making them for my parents and brother, I'm sure they'll love it too!

The festival was wonderful! Thank you for asking.

Those cookies really are a kind of treasure given to me. I am so glad I could share it with you.

I've always had a thing for Lee Jun Ki ever since My Girl. It's been wonderful to see him develop as an actor and Arang was a culmination of that in a way. Looking forward to see what he tries next. Shin Minah was beautiful and endearing as ever! I loved her ever since bittersweet life. Arang was a pleasure to watch, I never had anything to complain about, which is rare.

Wishing you much success in your exams and that all the answers come to you as easily as falling off a log! (I was going to say as easy as eating pie BUT I was flummoxed by the logistics of heating up my meal just now so...hehe)

Ah, good to hear! Wishing you a nice week.

And I like it how such a thing as cookies can turn out like a treasure, given to you (and to me).

Lee Jun Ki never really did it for me. I watched Time Between Dog and Wolf and liked him in it, but wasn't crazy over him. But now that I saw him in Arang I think I finally get why some people really like him. Now I'm planning on watching Time Between Dog and Wolf again!

Thank you so much! I really like you metaphor, haha! I hope your meal turned out alright ; )

0

It's strange how you can watch things and not notice people or characters but then something will happen and when you go back you are amazed at what you missed. I don't know how it works but really it must be something within yourself that has changed, a new perspective. Recently I watched Nell's 'a day before' MV and I had to go back and watch Moon Embraces the sun again for Sing Jae Rim.

I feel that Lee Jun Ki is really getting better with each project. I mean there was this intensity that he always brings to his roles which endeared me to him in the first place but I find that he has expanded his acting in a lot of ways. I love the way he portrays humour now, his timing is excellent. I also love how he is able to slip from funny to serious more easily now. It comes across more natural.

Yeah, I just ended up eating it cold out of the fridge...

So...mid terms? Wishing you much success.

0

Yeah, that's really true! Sometimes it's the same with music. I listen to an album and I think it's nothing special, but then some melody or a part of the lyrics gets stuck in my head and when I listen to it again I can't imagine I didn't think it was amazing before! Those albums or songs usually turn out to be my favourites.

Had my last exam today, and most answers came as easily as falling of a log! Thanks for wishing my good luck! And now I have freeeedom!! Dramas here I come!
I don't know if you still read this thread, but I hope your week is going well : )

(And to celebrate my coming days of freedom I plan to make your cookies again tomorrow! What better way to celebrate?)

0

It's been a long time!

Happy OT drama beanies!

how is everyone? I just realized that full time job and studying online for a course so unrelated with your job will most probably go down the drain.

It's a good thing I have kdramas to keep me sane...altough I can go insane sometimes with the plot twists and things in between.

Anyway

I'm loving Nice guy. I stopped reading faith 3 episodes ago, I might go back at it in the near future. Arang and the magistrate ended magnificently!

My fav part of 14, was when Jae Hee was going to kneel and he caught her and juuuust when you see in her face like she totally thought she had him, he was all "disgusting" and walks off!! I was like OHTHANKGOD!! I think that moment just makes the smirk at the end so delicious!

I hope you guys have a blast on your Big Bang trip! I'm only very very recently dipping my toe in the kpop realm. I just let it be a kind of fringe awareness thing for awhile, but one day I decided to put the kpop Pandora station on and ended up liking so many Big Bang songs! Doesn't hurt that they are all kinds of cute too. :)

My office is doing the same thing. Updates on the hour and discussing whether to activate the emergency preparedness system. Since I'm working both of my days off anyway, I don't think it will affect me, even if they call us in.

I'm just asking, Sandy, pretty please: DON'T HIT NEWARK!!

They are projecting that it will veer before it hits us head on, so it should just be heavy rain and winds.

I'm not on the ambulance this weekend but the police department, so even if it hits I'll just hunker down and wait it out. I checked with the parents and siblings, and they are prepped. Hopefully this will be the last storm of the season.

Take care!

Ok here I am! It's lunch time and I'm taking some time to actually not work, hurricane pending or not.

Here locally it looks like some bad weather, so personally I'm sure things will be fine. It's just that a big storm can really throw things out of whack at work and thus I'm at risk globally, pretty much. Well. The Americas, Europe and Asia, anyway. I don't have much in the Middle East.

One of the things I love about DB is that all day at work I'm involved with various countries and sometimes even cities where I can place actual people that I know here, and things you say here and on Twitter sometimes have actually helped me to understand current situations (holidays, weather, etc) where you are and thus helped me to avoid problems or plan for delays. It's a happy circumstance and one I greatly appreciate for the enrichment it brings me both personally and professionally!

Now, let's get to the important stuff!

Music - I'm enjoying the releases coming from Epik High and it seems like everyone else is too. Haven't discovered anything new on my own, though, been too busy to search this week.

Faith - aww, this week just thrilled my heart to pieces. What is it I have to watch now, God's Quiz? Because Ryu Deok-Hwan, you little adorable bit of lovable man you - I am a big, big fan. I will be sad to see this show go, failures of execution be damned. The PEOPLE executed, and that was enough for me.

Nice Guy - Holy Amnesia Train, Batman. Now she has amnesia about having amnesia or something but still, really - ok. Maru adores her. There is just no question. Please God, let him feel like he has been forgiven before his eventual death. Jae Hee you FREAK of a KDrama nightmare...how dare you continue to show bits of humanity and make it so hard for me to just hate you? Because I want to hate you. And I can't. I can only be scared of you. Attorney Park you cute man who understands that love isn't possession...is that what you were thinking when you lied to Eun Gi and said you never said that Maru was a bad guy to her? After your little hesitation in the hospital, which I read as acknowledgement that Maru's place is by her side...have you decided that you will NOT keep him away from her in the future after you've used to him to help her? Because, yo, she's gonna know you lied about it. How's that gonna play out?

The Great Seer - you continue to be interesting AND hilariously funny and I continue to think of you as crack. Here's hoping the adult seers are fun, because we haven't gotten much of the child seers but the parent's generation is CRAZY. Still getting a thrill out of an old, short, craggy Choi Young. Lee MinHot you do NOT age particularly well. I mean, the guy on his own isn't BAD...it's just that if he started out as you, he should end up better.

Time Between Dog and Wolf - I began this because Lee Jun Ki and because reasons. I LIKE it. I reallllllly like it. He's about to go back to Thailand and start the undercover bit and I'm so excited for my weekend!

And now, I have a bit of an announcement. I'm not quite sure how to say this, but you've all been so good to me, and I think so highly of you. I can't keep this secret any longer - it just feels wrong.

IhavewatchedfourepisodesofFullHouse2andeverysingleonemademelaughandnotATitbutwithit.

There. That felt good. And actually, the show feels good too. I have been giggling. Helpless, honest, oh my god those boys are nuts LAUGHING

Ok I didn't end my comment there deliberately but someone must have thought I was going on too long (because I was) so I'll stop. But seriously - their hair is crazy and the clothes that look so bad - there's a reason for it; and the plot to get them into the same house? Isn't all that nuts. And the interaction between the 3 main characters is fun - but I do see some tender and sad moments coming - and the side characters are hilarious. Watch it. I can't believe I'm saying this because I was expecting off-the-Jin-scale badness but this more of You're Beautiful kind of feeling to the what the fuckery going on. I like it. And I'm just not going to be ashamed about it anymore. But I still feel a little confused about it.

JoAnne, I'm so glad you came out as a fan of FH2! I've been looking forward to watching it, and am so excited I'm not the only one who gave it a try. I know it had such bad press, but it's exceeded my expectations. So cute and fun.

I feel like I'm always admitting to having bad taste by liking these "terrible" dramas, but I enjoy light, fluffy, and silly. So far it has not disappointed on the zany front (the end of episode 1 was a WTF moment in such a good way!).

And I agree with you on Faith. It might not have been perfect, but it had a lot of strength in it's "people". Can't wait to start God's Quiz for my new discovery. Ryu Deok-Hwan is such a cutie.

Awesome! I'll give it a watch once I finish A Gentleman's Dignity. I think I only have a few episodes left.

I like to have a show to marathon each week (if I can fit it in), as well as the two or three show's I'm watching live. God, I'm so obsessed... At least I've totally stopped watching American television (except for a few sitcoms here and there).

0

GQ starts off a little slow but picks up wrt the cases, etc. I find it on par with the CSIs and Criminal Minds. I continued watching it for Ryu who kept me intrigued with his excellent acting as the genius Dr. Han with dry humor. He's so quotable, I would chuckle, rewind his one-liner/quotes, and crack up again. So witty. I'm already on Episode 3 of season 2 and his character is evolving, for sure.

Can you tell I've fallen for Ryu's charms?! ;p

0

Hi Lady - I have no problem copping to the light and fluffy! I seriously thought that this was going to be BAD just flat out BAD based on what we were able to see beforehand.

Light and fluffy and BAD is not good. Light and fluffy and hilarious is perfect because I have to balance my deep desire for everything to end with Sang Doo levels of misery with...you know...sanity.

Haha, I've been debating if I want to watch FH2 so thanks you two... I will. :) I totally know what you mean about the admitting to bad taste feeling! My first dramas were ones that I later learned weren't all that highly thought off in general, just mediocre I'd guess, but I still like revisiting their kind and remembering when I didn't know what I was getting myself into. :)

0

Required fields are marked *

Give FH2 a shot. It's actually pretty good in a "What am I watching?" sort of way.

So true about my first few dramas being "second string" ones! I had no idea what I was getting myself into either, so I just watched whatever I could find.

At this point, I watch what I am interested in and try and find a least one good point in each show so I can stick with it. That can be hard sometimes (I'm talking to you, the second half of A Gentleman's Dignity!!).

0

Hahaha, I never actually watched AGD, I did read a few of the recaps though. That's the one thing that I get kind of frustrated about now, it there are too many shows I'd like to watch but I only have time for two or three at once and then they keep coming out with new ones. I feel like I'm getting "behind" sometimes, lol!

I watched the first part of FH2 last night, and yeah it's wacky but I like it for sure. :)

0

Wait, the Great Seer is funny?

Required fields are marked *

Parts of it are - it's not a comedy at all, but some of the people say or do things that will make you laugh.

Ji Jin Hee as General Yi (who goes on to kill our beloved Daejang in real life) is hysterically funny as a drunk, vain, insecure lout (who happens to be f-ing GORGEOUS) trying to figure out how to maneuver in a political environment.

The devious In-Im is hilarious because he's so batshit crazy jealous over his woman.

There's this other general who will remind you of that whiny guy that got put to death in Faith - only he's more funny, less irritating, and then Pimp Ahjussi from DH2 does a funny turn as ...I dunno what he is, and there's just - there's funny stuff here and there.

I'd need at least 2 lookers to make up for the cruelty + violence!

Hi everyone! How have you all been?
Another tough week for me, so much stress! However, I want to talk about the good stuff. On Saturday, I saw Romance Joe with a friend - wasn't as good as I'd hoped it would be, but I realized that I can now understand impressively large (by my own standards, haha) chunks of dialogue in Korean.:) Also, we went to see Celeste and Jesse Forever, and it was much better than I expected based on the IMDB reviews. The director also did a quick Q&A after the film, which was a nice bonus, considering it was not a big premiere. Finally, I changed my haircut, and it's giving me this amazing confidence boost - never underestimate the power of skilled hairdressers!
In K-drama news...nothing much, but I rewatch my favourite Dal Ja's Spring episodes. I would like to buy me some Tae Bongs, please.

Hi, Oftheshore!
I allowed myself a little rewatch, too - MiSa that is. It's a good way to relieve stress, isn't it? I mean, you know you're going to like what you see.
As for the hairdresser - they are elusive creatures. Once you encounter a good one, get their phone number or make sure you can contact them some other way. I had a traumatic experience when I got the best haircut in my life and then I couldn't find the hairdresser ever again. I went to that salon, but the other employee didn't tell me anything, I looked in other salons, but the lady seemed to disappear into thin air. To make things worse, on that very day (9/11) nobody noticed my great hairdo, because there were important things going on in the world...

I am free... as a bird. Or rather as a drama watcher. Watched ep 1-12 My daughter Seo Young. Then watched ep 1-5 Nice Guy- am going back to ep 6. From yesterday.
My brain is mush and I am toast. My head is heavy but am determined to finish ep 8 before bed. :-)

Happy OT everyone. Just to justify learning something Korean, because my last few dramas had so many swearwords. I asked one of the subbers to give me the lowdown for Korean swearing so I can memorize it. No, no, not to use it on someone. To recognize when it's said. Can I say when I put it to Google translate- it's terrible. More terrible than I thought. I would never ever dare to use it in real life. It's worse than the F word.

I totally get it now why you guys were raving on and on about Nice Guy. Or were you all raving on about Maru and his expressive eyes. Props to all of you who suffered or started from episode 1.

Required fields are marked *

I am serious it's for educational purposes. I am editing AM 1997 and Korean swear words are bad enough. Then you add on Gyeongsang do and Busan words. I am like " do you want to kill me? I am here for the pretty boys "

지랄한다 means epileptic ( I know!! ) but used for bullshitting.

씨팔, 씨발,씹할 F word so Koreans will ask you to not to say십팔 ( 18) but use 열여덟 so there is no mistake. The 18 is used as a wordplay for those 3 real swearwords.

재수없어 means unlucky. But used to say " you suck"

I had a list of swearing for a male. And for a female. But I feel really bad now. Saying this on OT. You should see all of us, everyone said we all learnt a lot of swearing working on Gaksital and on AM 1997.

Night all. Me and my bad mouth :-)

And when you start to think they can't possibly be faking it on screen, understand that you are in the blessed position to know up front that they actually fell in love during the filming of that drama and that he confessed to her publically during the interview after the last episode and 10 days later she went on the radio to confess that she had accepted him and that they were just going to queitly spend time together before he left for the army in a week or two WE all had to live through that, wondering.

Misty-eyed even now at the happy romance of it all. Plus the show is DAMN GOOD.

Queen In-Hyun's Man. A MUST SEE!

0

Agree wholeheartedly! Loved all the dramas you mentioned.

I am currently watching (marathoning) Queen Seon Deok. Am now in Episode 50 (of 62). One of the best (if not the best) sageuks ever. It has kept me at the edge of my seat since Epi 1. Although now that Mishil dies, am not sure if the tension will be as much in the remaining 10 or so epis.

That Go Hyun Jung! Just amazing!

How about watching variety? 1d2n season 2 has gotten its groove back, or you can given running man a try. Dramabeans does recaps of both, but best to watch and decide for yourself! It's always funnier on screen.

I just started watching that this past week, Wanda! I'm so in love with the cast and their antics. Glad I gave it a try.

Actually, It's the only Korean show I can get my husband to watch! He even requested a marathon tomorrow morning. Ha, he's hooked.

0

Yeah it's great! I'm loving the relations between the cast members and also between the cast and BirdPD. I started it because of Joo Won, but now I just love everything. The games they play are so funny!

How nice to watch it together with someone! How did you get him to watch it in the first place?

0

I basically told him he had no choice! Ha. It's nice to get my way sometimes.

I've recently gotten my mother into dramas too! She's marathoned a whole bunch of the older ones and just got up to ep 22 in Faith. She's going crazy waiting for the end... She keeps saying I've ruined her life. Oh well :)

0

Haha, that's one way to get your way! Glad he cooperated!
I can't imagine my mother watching Kdramas. And yeah, Kdramas can do that to your life ; )

I'm also not completely hooked on the currently airing dramas, except:
The 3rd Hospital. 20 eps. I was sure as hell it was 16.
The Horse Doctor. I'm not a sageuk person but there is animals everywhere so I'm happy with it.
Five Fingers: For the boys. Period.
May Queen: For Kim Jae-won (I'm even watching Wonderful Life for double dose of him) and the other male characters and the boats.
Full House is absolutely cheesy but funny. The horrendous outfits and hairstyles are going to grow on me: SeGa sparkling blue tracksuit syndrome.
Watching the Japanese Kekkon Shinai: Love it.
Waiting for subs for the Japanese doramas Priceless with KimuTaku, and Monster.

Yep, I was on holiday and I spent a lot of time with my family. I put dramas on hold for a while and was "gone" for a bit. I'm back in school but I still haven't found time to watch dramas. Hope this finds you all well.

Did a little drama sampling this week. A little bit of an episode of 'Ooh la la', 'Goodbye Dear Wife', and 'My Wife, Madame Butterfly' and a few episodes of Vampire Persecutor before it got too much and I wimped out.

As always enjoyed the recaps here on DB for 'VP', 'Faith', and 1N2D.

Personally hanging out for some more romantic comedies.

Hi Karecity!

I am possibly the oldest person on here, but I just want to say that there is no distinction in age, race, or nationality among drama lovers - that's what makes Dramabeans so awesome! And obviously we both share a love of Nice Guy despite our ages. (Plus I'm a very young grandmom - not necessarily in age but in spirit. I'll be running my first 5K and going to see Big Bang all in the same week.)

I love reading everyone's comments, as I think every person has something of value to add, even if I disagree with them. So hopefully you will return to the OT often - I can say from experience that I'm sure you'll run into things more shocking than this as you live your life! :)

Just wondering if anyone is watching semi-recent HK dramas? Any recs?

I just started episode 1 of The Hippocratic Crush...and it seems promising. I can tell the boy intern is going to drive me crazy with his OTT immature act, but the rest of the cast are alright. I haven't touched an HK drama since Rosy Business because HK dramas have been sucky in recent times, hence my conversion to Kdramas. Though I must admit I do miss TVB a bit at times.... just blind past devotion to the TV station that I grew up with, despite its obvious faults.

happy OT everyone.. we are having a public holiday today - muslim celebration (haj). and ive mostly spent it in bed on account of the long hours of work the day before.

am watching protect the boss just to see who choi kang hee is - find the drama pretty ordinary - neither very good nor very bad. was hoping she would be full of quirky charm but unfortunately dont find her so. am hoping thats more because of the script than the actress herself.

finished city hunter some time this week and really like joon hyuk in it. love his intensity there, more so than lee min ho.

SPOILER for City Hunter *
Seeing as you liked Joon Hyuk more then Lee Min Ho what did you think of the fact that his character died at the end of the series? I cried my eyes out when that happened, and was a mess for the rest of the day.

I thought Protect the Boss was very funny until the last few episodes, which really dragged. I liked Choi Kang Hee there, but found her not really special. I'm praying that she and Joo Won will have some kind of chemistry together in their new drama..

Also, why sit or stand when you can be lying down! So relaxing. I tried to study in bed, but I failed cause I fell asleep!

SPOILER FOR CITY HUNTER!!

yes i bawled too - it was done well in that he was totally heroic in that act of death. and i dreaded it as soon as he promised the ex wife to take up the second chance. i really loved his character most in the drama.

i thought the finale a little overly melodramatic at the death scenes of the father but otherwise i liked the ending that he went off on his own.

protect the boss is unremarkable to me. and i dont find CKH charming or quirky so can only hope that it was tthe script and directing that is the reason. i can see that she doesnt conform to the typical k actress pretty but i do prefer unique quirky charms to just beautiful. unfortunately i dont see that in her yet.

still looking forward to the drama and hoping with the right ingredients, itll turn out great

STILL SPOILERY

Yeah, as soon as he said that to his ex-wife I knew she would never see him again. His character was so heroic! But it was also very sad! I think the very ending was a bit rushed, they could have done better, but it was not bad.

I'll definitely check the new drama out, and I'll probably still watch the whole thing even if its toe-cringing bad just for Joo Won!

Happy Friday everyone!

I didn't want to post until I finally finished Episode 12 of my 18 vs 29 recapping job, so naturally, my lappy decided to have a conniption with the screenshots. It's finally done - yay!

I'm done with Arang, and give it about a 8.5~9. It hit all the right notes, and I thought the ending was not bad, and a much better resolution that QIHM or [ugh] Big.

I'm still wondering about the ending of Faith. There's still a lot to resolve in two hours, and a lot of territory they haven't really explored: Hwata and her earlier self, the changes/not changes in history due to her presence, heck even the tired, old "will the poison kill me". Show, I'm guessing a rushed ending, but please don't make it a lame one!!!

I'm also watching the TWDrama "When Love Walked In" and I'm down to the final 10 episodes (it's a total of 32). It's a sweet little drama, made better by the three main hunks, one of which has the same plastic surgeon as Choi Siwon. He's in Suju-M, so that may be a factor.

Anyway, with Hurricane Sandy bearing down on the East Coast, the precinct is buzzing with preparations, so it'll be a busy weekend.

I'm finally back on track with my writing. Well, sort of back, as my NYC preps are encroaching on my freetime. But I have written a couple of chapters and I hope to post them this week.

Next week, I want to reveal the final plans for the Movie Noona East Coast meet-and-greet starring BIG BANG!!

I'm here, and alive. Haven't been on much for the last few months. I still lurk, just haven't posted. Hubby still out of work, but he's got a couple of leads and did a little contract job last month. So we aren't starving yet. I'm not super worried yet...ask me in a month. Giant tax return helped, too, thanks to our awesome CPA/taxman.

Dramas..currently airing, I'm only following Faith. LIfe is just too busy these days. When I get another extra bit of time, I'm watching Arang, as I missed it when it aired. Love both of them....both have flaws, but I'm enjoying them immensely. Watched the first ep of Great Seer, looks incredible. Maybe I"ll pick that up when I finish Arang. If JiSung is in it, I'm there.

Celebrated our 17th anniversary a few weeks ago. No money to go anywhere, but that same weekend we had family visit, so we had a good time anyway. I love my Sam, he's been in a whirl of organizing and throwing stuff out (YAY!!!!....You have NO idea how big a deal that is). I'm loving it. Hopefully it gets finished before he gets a job. You know how when you organize, the mess gets bigger before it gets better? That's where we are and if he goes off to work before the "it gets better" part, it's gonna suck.

Chili cookoff at church tonite. I usually make chili from one of those seasoning packets. I think I'll try it from scratch today.

Those on the east coast, hang on to your hats, and houses etc, through the hurricane. Stay dry!!!

I haven't tried Great Seer yet, but I'm hearing good comments. I might try it. But after Arang and Faith, I really don't feel like watching another sageuk.
To think that last years sageuks were really good, I wonder what happened to the writers/PDs this year

Hi, John.
If you're at Argentinian dramas, have a look at Wild Angel / Muneca Brava. It was a great hit in my country. The songs from OST are still popular, too. On the surface it looks like cliche Cinderella story, but it is really funny and the characters are remarkable.

Good afternoon!

Dramas watching:
Faith
Vampire Prosecutor 2
Panda and Hedgehog

I'm the type of person who likes to marathon dramas, so I was kind of dismayed to be all caught up on Faith and VP2.
So the other day I started Panda and Hedgehog. So far I like it (4 eps in), mainly b/c of Lee Dong-hae, who plays the main male lead. His character is refreshing b/c he's so positive and affectionate - you don't see that much in the male leads. I'm not a SuJu fan really (Big Bang is VIP!), so I didn't know Lee Dong-hae before this.

The female lead is pretty standard. All the desserts have got me wishing for cake though. Did anyone else watch this drama?

Watched Panda. It was uber cute and yes, Donghae won me over (wasn't the case in Skip beat). Him and his GrandPa made me vomit rainbows... And eat tons of cakes but that's another story.

Good Friday and Saturday!

I wanted to share my last marathon - Obstetrics and Gynecology Doctors (2010) experience to see if anyone has watched it.
I decided to take a peek at 10PM on a Tuesday to get me some SJK, and found I was still engrossed 5 episodes later and still awake!!

They talk about and show just about EVERYTHING you can on TV, and I am not exaggerating.
And there's blood. EVERYWHERE.
And babies - pretty, sad, sick, crying, happy babies. You really need to gird your stomach, loins and tear ducts to watch it.

They talk about all the taboos related to birth control, adoption, disabilities, out of wedlock babies, affairs, marriages of convenience (for cash.)

The main cast was good, but no superstars.
I can see why someone who started out as green but as popular as SJK, stays humble. He's surrounded by first class supporting actors, who, if they were lucky enough to be as beautiful as he, would be bigger stars. He has come a long way in acting skills since that show two years ago.

One of the things I like about it is the guest stars each couple episodes. I am playing "Guess what else they were in?" in under 30 seconds. Sometimes they are regulars on dramas, and sometimes they are victims of crimes in Ten or VP. Almost all of them have died on screen at least ONCE.

And he's green, uri SJK. This is before SKKS and after Triple. He's like a puppy dog who can't control his wagging tail at the start, but calms down as it goes.
And pretty! Did I mention he's pretty and pouty?

Of course, I fell in love with Go Joo Won (now in the army) and Suh Ji Suk on the way. Great bromance, too.

Yes! I watched Obstetrics and Gynecology Doctors and liked it and yes the lovely SJK was his lovely self. And all the babies and issues really touched me, maybe because I'm a mom myself and can relate to some of the feelings and issues that surfaced in the show. Actually I find myself more interested in those rather than the lovelines.

I don't think I will be able to watch Nice Guy this weekends, like I usually do (I use the weekends mostly to catch up on dramas) because my twin, her bf and her baby are visiting me.

Also tumblr is down and I don't know what to do with myself.

It's a long weekend where I am. I'm still recovering from Ojakjyo Brothers... yes I know, super late start but I didn't believe that I could watch a 50+ episoder in the first place. But it's pretty good and of cos, I love Joo Won and several other actors in it... and after OB and Arang, I see a bright future for the actor who was Tae Pil/Joo Wal (sorry, can't remember his name, I'll look it up soon!). I am in awe of the way he dealt with these two characters and made them so memorable.

Hi John. :D

I can't believe I didn't watch Nodame before. I read the manga first before watching it (it's quite long, whew). Hiroshi Tamaki (Chiaki) is so pretty and all the classical music is awesome. :D If I had a gripe it's that Chiaki was rather fond of smacking people around (even in the manga, so I can understand why it's in the drama) but still. Also, I love the titular character (Nodame). :D

I also read Ouran before watching it-- it's a very enjoyable parody of shoujo cliches. :D

SKKS was where I first saw Song Joong Ki (and Yoochun, PMY and Yoo Ah In too now that you mention it). But Gu Yong Ha is my favorite character, so... was it only two years ago? I'm glad it's airing locally, so more people here will have a chance to watch it!

Still watching Oolala couple. If you don't look for deep philosophical meanings and don't mind gag antics, then this week was really your week.

SPOILER
She/he gets pregnant. A man delivering a baby. =P

Picked up Horse Doctor, but the similar format to Dong Yi and Dae Jang Geum has me rolling my eyes... variety, just a bit would be nice. Challenge yourself.

SPOILER
Starts with baby being born with a scandal and birth secret/secret. Then go to cave. Then parent/foster parent dies because of an arrow wound/sword slash. They are deluded their parent is alive and talks to them as if they are... I've just described all three dramas.

Also Full House 2, loosely watching on back burner while I'm doing other things.

Great Seer is on Reserve, waiting for Faith to finish which I have to sub this week.

And the Japanese dramas are screwing me over. >.<;; Too many.

I picked up Tokyo Airport with Fukuda Kyoko. She doesn't play someone vapid in this one, and kinda seems mature (though it might be the hair) I know it's a propaganda feel good over the top drama, but I still like it.

Yuusha Yoshihiko to Akuryo no Kagi is still funny. Ahh... I love Monty Python for similar reasons to this one. The gags are really good. (And the in jokes are great).

I watched but also dropped Koukou Nyuushi... the tone was odd and not much happened in comparison to that tone.

Still watching Kekkon Shinai with a super wary heart. I know they are going to burn me.

Still love Kodoku Gurume 2--light watch, Japanese food, how can that go wrong? It's an easy series, though not on an empty stomach.

Picked up Ooku: Arikoto Iemitsu Hen-- Hitsorical drama, it is dripping money of all kinds. the fabrics are rich and since I like the manga, watching this one.

Tokyo Zenryoku Shoujo is still funny, though the first episode was funnier. the father-daughter relationship is still selling it for me.

Also watched Spec the movie ('cause I liked Spec 1 and 2). I liked several of the in jokes. (Especially the one at the very end, which was a subtle in joke about timing)

Skipping Reset (too many characters for 10 episodes)

Going to try this week: Monsters, Hana no Zubora Meshi

(probably missing others, but I have to scale back... since I'm about to get slammed with K-dramas)

Still watching Miss Rose. If it's already lagging at this point why am I watching it? I know I say it often, but I still don't know why I'm watching it. We're barely halfway through too.

Monster
Has Yamapi. The acting is a bit weird, but it's probably more on the director. The humor is supposed to be gag, though I don't find it that funny. It starts out like it's supposed to be all dark and then pulls the rug on you.

Yamapi plays someone super naive and Katori Shingo plays someone who likes playing pranks and has a dark side to him.

They solve cases together. Humor doesn't work for me, but the rest of it does.

Hana no Zubora Meshi

About a lazy housewife whose husband is gone on assignment, so she's left to her own devices. Their apartment together has gotten really messy, so she spends most of the day sleeping and then thinking about cleaning up. Then she gets hungry and cooks some [awful] things. Tone runs wacky/slice of life-ish.

Has a bit of the appeal of Hotaru no Hikari in terms of someone without the perfect house. Also has some funny commentary on the side. (Like a lazy person's way to clean house) Probably will appeal to older women rather than teenage women.

Episodes only run 20-30 minutes, so it's not that much of a commitment. I'm probably picking this one up. It makes a good set with Kodoku Gurume since the main character of that is Goro and this wife's husband's name is Goro and eating in the opposite direction.

Hi all:

Am watching Ooh la la spouse which is sooo good. Yep, he's pregnant now. I'm assuming he's gonna keep the baby although the cliffhanger is he's now in the position of waiting to get baby aborted. Some folks say the switch thing is repetitive or old but I don't think so. It's cute, and there's that fantasy element. The wife (the female wife) really is a saint though. And the actor who plays the wife is just so good at doing female woundedness.

Also watching Ooku: Aritoko etc. Am really liking it. Japanese period samurai piece about a female shogun and the pure-hearted monk who gets ensnared into her harem/ooku. I hadn't thought I would like it and I generally avoid Japanese dramas but this is soo good and there's a feeling we'll get a lot of honest emotion instead of preachy J-drama ending platitudes.

Gave up on Kekkon Shinai because I just get the feeling it's gonna end in some way I really don't want. A kind of weird affirming of the status quo or some equally annoying "surprise" ending where the characters' goals are flipped. Whatever they will do in this drama, I get the feeling I'll have seen it already. And I do not want to waste my energy and heart and get annoyed at the finale.

Watching Monsters cause Yamapi is in it and well, I have a little crush on him. Watching Yuusho Yoshihiko. Waiting for the subs for Hitorishizuka

Not sure I want to commit to Madame Butterfly. When it's with the normal folks at the family homestead, I really like it. But when it gets with all the big wigs and stock investments and cheating and chaebols, my eyes kinda gloss over.

Intend to watch Ugly Cake but am waiting for the subs. Also waiting to watch A Good Day for the Wind to Blow. I might like it. Who knows?

I have to catch up on The Great Seer. Loving Vampire Prosecutor. They're like old friends. I really connect to this cast. Really liking Innocent Man but the memory loss again bit... aaargh!

Still gotta finish my marathon of Playful Kiss and will try once again to sit through City Hunter. Not sure why I didn't like it back in the day. Happy weekend, all.

Hi I have been a lurker for a while now. Love this site. I have been watching kdramas for about 2 years now. I tried to get my friends into them too, but only one got hooked like me. It's great to see from the DB website that there are other people out there who enjoy a good story without all the rampant explicit sex & violence that are so prevalent in a lot of American TV.

Really enjoying Nice Guy & Ohlala Couple. Song Joong Ki & Moon Chae Won are knocking it out of the park IMHO. And how can a show make you cry so much from both laughing one minute and sobbing the next?!

Looking forward to more...

I tried Ohlala and hated it, not funny at all, sorry. I don't ask for much just great chemistry, good actors, solid storyline and fantastic soundtrack. Ok, maybe I could do with just one or two of those.:P Some I've watched and loved even more were Coffee Prince (all time favorite), You're Beautiful and Rooftop Prince.

Sorry for sort of hijacking your post. I wanted some drama suggestions too, but I guess the second page does not get much attention, so here I am piggybacking on your post.

I really want to watch some funny/sweet k-drama. Preferably something I can marathon, so a completed or near complete drama would be ideal. Swoon-worthy OTP is always a plus. A bubbling idiot female lead is a HUGE detractor. I like shows set in school; sucker for coming of age storyline. To give you some idea, here are some dramas I could watch over and over again:

Answer me 1997
Queen In-Hyun’s Man
Shut Up Flower Boy Band
The Woman Who Still Wants to Marry (love)
Sungkyunkwan Scandal
My Girlfriend is a Guhimo
Dream High I (I loved it the first time round, not sure if it will retain the same charm in second or third viewing)

So… any recommendations? I really want to marathon some sucker and feel the same thrill that I felt when I first discovered k-dramas. Thanks muchos!

PS: I am open to TW-dramas or JDoramas too if they are good. I’ve found that in most of JDoramas the female lead is an even bigger idiot than your normal k-drama and what’s worse, tends to overreact, but I might have been unlucky enough to try most of the bad ones. I mean I liked the Japanese version of Hana Yori Dango better (just for the record).

Park Yuchun can probably seduce me into his new show but I'm trying hard to resist. Probably keep up with Vampire Prosecutor 2 and catch up on some Supernatural, Bones, Vampire Diaries viewing, stuff like that.

Hello OT-ers!

I'm currently watching Faith and Nice Guy. The first mainly for the OTP while the latter, there's this thing about it.. A lot of times when watching an episode, I was really annoyed until some point where I felt like I can't take it anymore and then bam! The twist. The ending. The writer just know how to keep me interested again. Take Episode 14 for example, in the beginning when it seems like Eun Gi lost her memories for the SECOND TIME, I was like WHAT THE HELL!! And then, Maru feeling headache AT THE SAME TIME when Eun Gi screaming and crying her heart out, how dramatic can that be. I just hate the overused melodrama trope in here and them intended for the sake of making the situation as bad as it can be. And Eun Gi not listening to Maru, visiting Ja Hee's house, agreeing to meet the President regarding the deal, was getting on my nerves. BUT the ending, like usual, always manage to make me interested and looking forward to the next episode everytime. I think it mostly because I really hate Jahee and wants to see her going down.

Anyway, I've been searching for something to watch during the weekend. I just finished Architecture 101, it was sweet but I didn't like the ending. Any other good movies? Not horror though, because I'm living alone now haha. I'm looking for The Thieves but can't find the streaming links. Anyone know?

So..right now, Faith and Nice Guy

Ohlala is solala for me. I watched the first two eps and recently tried one of the current episodes but sadly I didn't enjoy it that much. I'm still watching Oohlala, and still loving it. :) This is supposed to be an exaggerated comedy that you take at face value, so I guess you either love it or hate it. It's a nice break to my week and from all the serious drama that's out lately. It's not just pointless comedy that ends on every episode though, there's still a good plot and character development. But understandably, a lot of people can't get over the exaggerated acting and the douchey husband.

Hi Everybody!
I've discovered Rascal Sons this week - there are subs for 4 episodes. It's not really original, but it isn't sickeningly conventional either. Some characters feel like they have been taken from a sitcom, some would fit into a teary melo, but taken as a whole, it's a likable drama. I guess family dramas are the genre I feel attracted to in autumn.

Nice Guy is my current favourite, although this week's episodes weren't as great as the previous ones. I guess there is a limit to corporation stuff I am able to appreciate. Plus, I wouldn't give a babyface like Kang Maru any resposnible position. Seriously, he seems like a total kid pretending to be an adult. On the bright side, I am so glad I'm not going to succumb to any new fascination and check out an actor's entire work. But Moon Chae Won? hmmm

I fear that May Queen enters the Total Makjang territory. But still, I am curious what happens next.

And my guilty pleasure: I rewatched several episodes of Sorry, I Love you. And I still haven't figured out what makes me like So Ji Sub so much in that drama. He doesn't even look his best in that one. *goes to listen to Yukinhana*

Have a great weekend/holiday, Everybody!

Hair? In the beginning, with the headband it looked cool. I still cannot get behind the hat he wore in the later episodes.
It cannot be I got to like the character/ actor just because he drove some really cool muscle car in the first episode... or is it?

You're a girl after my own heart! Don't feel guilty about rewatching Mianhada, Saranghanda! My friends and I used to do it once a year! Though I saw So Ji Sub first in What Happened in Bali, it was after watching I'm Sorry, I love You that I became a fan. ;-)
