Aw, I don’t know why, but watching the cast of Answer Me 1997 move on to new projects makes me feel proud, like we’ve watched them grow up since high school or something. It looks like Shin So-yool has made a little best-friend niche for herself — she’s going from Jung Eun-ji’s bestie on 1997 to playing Moon Geun-young’s bestie on the upcoming weekend drama Alice in Cheongdam-dong.
The drama stars Moon Geun-young as a young fashion designer who suddenly finds herself having to navigate the strange new world of the upper crust, who live in the Cheongdam-dong neighborhood of Kangnam. And after working her tail off to get there, she decides that her new dream is to become a Cheongdam-dong daughter-in-law. Er? Park Shi-hoo plays the hero, the rival designer label’s CEO. Shin So-yool will play the heroine’s best friend, from high school all the way through college. Her character is cute and bold, not afraid to speak her mind, and wishes more than anything that she could marry a wealthy man.
I love the cast, but so far I’m put off by the whole marry-a-rich-man theme running through this drama. I guess I’ll hold out hope that the drama does something other than the straight Cinderella story? I don’t begrudge a heroine her happily ever after with a charming hero or anything, but I’m not sure anyone’s actual life goal past the age of four should be become Cinderella.
In any case, I’m looking forward to seeing a lot more of Shin So-yool, who was delightful in 1997, and stood out as an actress among an idol cast. She was adorable, funny, and vulnerable, and really carried the whole Yoo-jung/Hak-chan storyline on her performance. She’s currently on the cast of the daily sitcom What Is a Mom, and will go straight into shoots for Alice.
Alice in Cheongdam-dong premieres in December on SBS.

As I stated before, SSY reminds me of Jo Eun-ji (a little bit in the looks dept. and more so in the acting talent dept.).
While AM1997 had a good cast, the standouts to me were SSY and Sung Dong-il.
I love her! She’s so cute and did great on Answer Me 1997, sometimes I was more interested in her and Dak Chan’s story than the main couple

I remember Shin So Yool more fondly because of Jungle Fish 2, she was amazing and her character had a lot to go through and she played it so well. I liked her character there better than in Reply 1997, I’m sad that’s all people seem to know her by now

Whoa, this makes Alice in Cheongdamdong a reunion, because I’m pretty sure Shin So Yool was also in Autumn in My Heart (that classic, old drama with Moon Geun Young, Song Hye Kyo, Song Seung Hun, Won Bin, and Han Chaeyoung). I never forget a face
I love Park Shi Hoo but the heroine is a character I can’t get behind at all.

Aww another follow up success story from AM1997. Yay. She’s talented and charming. Btw Nice Guy made me rewatch Penny Pinching Romance (is that the right title?) and I was surprised to see our Yoo-jung, she was cute and charming as in AM1997 and Joong-ki made out with her like crazy. *sigh* Such lucky talented girl.

Until Answer Me 1997 I thought she was the same person as Seo Hyo Rim from Me Too Flower. They both have a big eyed, quirky-lipped adorableness going on.
