More Moon Geun-young stills and another trailer for Alice

Here’s just a little bit more about Alice in Cheongdam-dong, which has been really stingy with promos and details, hasn’t it? We’ve gotten a few stills here and there and a (terrible and) terribly short first teaser, but at least the second teaser actually shows us footage from the series proper, giving us a sense of the drama’s light, comedic tone.

In the trailer below, we start off with more fairy-tale-like imagery as Moon Geun-young narrates about taking a trip down the rabbit hole and emerging in a strange land. Instead of Wonderland, it’s Cheongdam-dong with its fashionable excess and luxe lifestyle that holds her intrigued, as well as the rich and successful businessman she fixes her sights on, Park Shi-hoo. She vows with starry eyes to succeed on this turf (she’s an aspiring designer). I’m still unclear on how this all ties in to her plot to marry him, unless she equates succeed with marry. Please tell me there’s a step in between that reasoning that aren’t privy to.

In the clip, Park Shi-hoo gives a presentation and speaks disparagingly about his target market’s obsessions with materialism, spending ridiculous amounts of money and bleeding their men dry of cash to get their shopping fix: “A pathetic lot, our women.” Wow, he’s a prince, isn’t he? So not your mother’s Cinderella tale. I hope.

The stills of Moon in her school uniform come from a flashback scene to her character’s high school days. Although, as with everything about this show, we’re left with just vague descriptions and no anchoring. I’m still waiting for the moment when all of this makes sense and the drama starts to feel… well, like a real drama. Right now I feel like we’re being given random scraps from random synopses and left to fit the pieces together. Which also means that I can’t form much of an opinion on this show yet, since I feel so cut out of the loop here. Let’s just say I hope it’s good, but I’m not placing any bets.

Kim Ji-suk (I Need Romance 2012) fills out the love triangle. The drama premieres on December 1, and will air as a Saturday-Sunday drama on SBS.

I had come to the conclusion since the last post on Alice in Cheongdam-dong that the promo team was gonna give us squat to go by. Nothing has change now either, the plot details still sounds boring and shallow.

So, the only way I'll know what the heck it's about is to try out the first episode (hmm, I wonder if that was the reason for the lack of promo details). I'll repeat it again, I do love both the leads and thus do want this to be a success, but, I won't stay for the long haul just for them.

So, Alice in Cheongdam-dong.

I want, I need, I would die for a good rom-com these days. But, but, but... I wouldn't bet my money on that drama either. Please show, tell me you have more in store than the Shrek cat's eyes of MGY and the cheeky smile of PSH... That would be a bit short.

I am so starved of a good rom-com...I can't wait for this show to start. But knowing the strangeness of Kor rom-coms, we'd start off laughing and end up crying by ep 20.

Fear not!
Check out King of Dramas. Pleasantly surprised by the quality of this show. It'll make you laugh, tons.

I am also starved of a good rom-com and lately have only been watching more serious dramas. To name a few: Nice Guy, Arang and the Magistrate, Vampire Prosecutor. And now I'm planning on watching yet another revenge-y one starting this Wednesday. *sigh* Really need some sugar and spice and everything nice or else I'll be living a few months of depression, heh.

I gave episode 1 of King of Dramas a try. It looks quite interesting but I'm not sure if I want to go ahead. More than anything, the intense music makes me laugh at times. I also like the overall tone. But something holds me back. Maybe I should watch ep 2 before finally deciding.

Anyways, this Alice drama isn’t appealing to me either. Haven’t watched much of fashion-based dramas since those never seemed to appeal to me from reading their summaries.

He's so handsome in the teaser. I can't wait! For my love for PSH, i'll watch this drama till its end. I believe he won't just pick a random drama for his comeback project.

To think, he even chose a great movie as his debut on the bigscreen.

City Hunter had an equally weird promo strategy. Let's hope Alice turns out to be equally awesome... although that will be hard. Given the subject of the series, I guess it might well be impossible.

Funny thing was that city hunter promos gave ppl lots of ideas of what the drama could be about what with its many different concept posters. This drama however gives us nothing but a few bland and cliche plot lines heh.

I understand what all are saying about the 'fashion designer' theme. Usually it is a pretty 'blah' movie when it is that type of theme.

But who can resist watching Park Shi Hoo? He usually get's in character and does his best in his dramas. And I love how he over exaggerates his laughs.

Can't wait for more of Alice....

Did anyone see the 'news' about T.O.P. negotiating for a role in Kim Tae Hee's spring drama?

I will eat my textbooks if he's cast even as a second lead. I just can't with this industry anymore.

OTOH, Kim Tae Hee is a rather poor actress herself, so maybe they might be a match made in heaven (or hell?). Hmm.

Required fields are marked *

Just don't watch the drama then, lol. The drama will probably flop and it would serve its investors/production company right for casting T.O.P. as a lead. Or maybe the production company is fully aware that this drama would be a domestic flop and that fact doesn't even matter. I like T.O.P. and he's got potential, but he's so not ready for a lead role. Meh, I have a feeling this news is moot b/c I highly doubt Kim Tae Hee would be willing to work alongside T.O.P. And Kim Tae Hee is serviceable. I like her ^^ The reality is: most kdramas = eye candy. If you want to see raw, powerful acting, you can watch the latest films heralded by BIF :)

And one question, if you hate kpop, why do you follow allkpop?

I think you need to take a deep breath... TOP being cast is hardly grounds for eating your textbooks ;-) I agree with Waeeee - this drama was probably going to be a disaster anyways and casting TOP is just par for the course as far as I'm concerned. I'll be surprised if it isn't a complete trainwreck.

And really, they would have a point. After all, if someone like Yoon for IRIS II or Chansung can be made a second lead, why not TOP as lead? After all, he has more experience than they do! I am just playing devil's advocate, by the way. I think the whole process stinks, and you can't kick an idol off my screen fast enough, with rare exceptions. It just annoys me so much, how they keep throwing up these guys on the screen, even when there is trainwreck after trainwreck, just because they do well at what they do, in their narrow little market niche. I wish they would all stick to CFs.

I had a feeling this drama was going to (pardon me) suck ever since I read the synopsis. In the history of dramadom, has there ever been a good fashion drama? Still going to watch this for Moon Geun Young and Park Shi Hoo, but I don't know how many episodes my love for these two can carry me through. Perhaps a kind soul will upload MGY+PSH skeensheep cuts :)

Ok so I guess I will finally admit that my love Park Shi hoo (and not his lifesize cardboard cutout as the other promo suggested) will actually be in this drama afterall. I am relieved that his hair appears to be normalish in the actual video footage unlike the promo stills. I am totally fine with him playing a jerk in the begining as it means that he will have some kind of transformation into a lovesickfool (and probably a haircut midway through to mark the transition).

So their meet cute is a car accident which is so very original!! And has not been in everyother drama ever! Sigh
The cliche alert is already ringing which doesn't bode well for this drama. However i still believe in Park shi hoo's abililty to pick a drama! Good or bad I will be watching!

Thanks JB for the update.

After seeing Park Shi-hoo in the promo and reading what his character had to say about Korean women I feel that this drama may have something to it. I like how his character says what he does but makes his money from that exact thing.

As to MGY's character I feel like she's in a different world altogether. Which is probably what the writer wants but just not in the same way as I'm thinking.

I'm still really pumped for this drama! I mean, it could be because of the fact I'm a big fan of Park Shi Hoo and Moon Geun Young~ But also, because I haven't watched a rom-com for a while, and now there's a chance to watch one with actors and actresses I like!

I'm liking the Alice in Wonderland feel their giving to it but I'm wondering if it's gonna last once the drama starts?

I have to admit, I was worried about the plot of the drama but the second teaser actually made me less worried.. (The first teaser was a shipwreck.)

I hope that SBS steps up their marketing techniques! Unless this lack of anything on CDDA is part of their publicity techniques.. >< Maybe release some stills of Park Shi Hoo or PSH and MGY together?

Anyway, can't wait for this drama to air! I have a feeling I'm gonna stick with this drama til the end :D

So they *say* it's a rom-com, but I won't believe it until I see it. Seems like so many alleged rom-coms are funny for a couple of episodes, then ultimately devolve into a ridiculous, over-dramatic string of misunderstandings/birth secrets/parental hissy-fits, etc.

Or, if you're Yoochun you get sent back in time to live out your sad lonely days with a tracksuit and a eunuch. Not much funny or romantic about that....

I've missed PSH in modern garb since Prosecutor Princess and Family Honor - loved him in those two shows. This one I feel is going to be a good one (I am an optimist by nature) and MGY always delivers and it'd be nice to see her in a light rom-com...it was such a downer seeing her perpetually sour face in Cinderella's Sister. I'd never put the two together but I'm looking forward to this one. I don't know head nor tail of the story, but going by this trailer, it's about a handsome white rabbit who meets a pretty girl one day in the forest, makes a wish in a secret garden (in the same forest), and is magically transformed into a handsome chaebol with a wicked smile and a penchant for carrot soup. Our hero Mr Rabbit (by name, not by nature) goes in search of his dream girl in the big bad city...

Thanks. Like everyone else here, I'm totally and utterly confused at what the plot is about. I'm hoping it's a good series because it has Park Shi Hoo and I love him. It's probably going to be like a country girl trying to make it big in the city and they used Alice in Wonderland as an analogy to hook everyone. I'm pretty sure they will have people resembling the characters in Alice in Wonderland, but I think that's the jist of it which to me is fine, but might sound boring to others. I've watched so many series' like that that I'm fine with that storyline.

H.I.T (MBC, 2007)
Ballad Of Suh Dong (SBS, 2005)
Smile Of Spring Day (MBC, 2005)

somehow this reminds me of disney movies, like UP. The trailer sure made it like some awesome fun, adventurous, kiddy movie and I just ended up crying so much the first 10min of the movie. I'm not saying this drama will be like that, but I'd like to see more in the trailers, unless the show's intention is to purposely have a zero-plot trailers before it actually airs. That actually kinda spurs my interest more, but at the same time, it's sort of making viewers wary.
