That Winter gets a slot on SBS’s schedule

For some reason I was thinking That Winter, The Wind Blows would probably end up on cable — probably because writer Noh Hee-kyung’s last drama, Padam Padam, resided there — but the romance melodrama has finally gotten on a schedule, and it’s a major broadcaster. SBS will air That Winter as a Wednesday-Thursday drama beginning in February, which means it will follow The Great Seer, which is only a third of its way through its 36-hour running time.

The show, as you probably are already aware, has been a buzz project from the outset thanks to some big names attaching themselves, particularly someone like Jo In-sung who hasn’t been on television in years (not since 2005), and who’s making his army comeback to boot. Song Hye-gyo has been focusing on her film career in recent years, though she was on television more recently than her co-star; she worked with the same writer in her last drama, The World They Live In. Kim Bum (Padam Padam) and Jung Eun-ji (Answer Me, 1997) round out the cast.

The plot involves a painful scar from a dead first love (his), blindness (hers), a rich playboy (him), a tragedy-filled family life (her), some faked identities (he pretends to be her missing brother), some fauxcest (they fall for each other, naturally)… which all screams conventional melo. Of course, in the hands of writer Noh Hee-kyung it’ll probably be far from ordinary, though I can’t promise it won’t be a little pretentious. (I really admire her writing skills, yet find her a pretty cold storyteller.) Still, with this cast and production team (PD Kim Kyu-tae is also back from Padam Padam), this looks like a can’t-miss drama.

Keep your eyes peeled for February 2013.

I'm watching for KB too. And yes, I believe he'll star as the lead in his own drama one day (hopefully with Kim So Eun ;)).

Btw, I've been constantly stalking his baidu and look what I found: http://tieba.baidu.com/p/1982091682

His new look is to die for! He's nothing short of hot. <3

I'm looking forward! I agree with you about Noh Hee-kyung's writing, but I love the darkness of Padam Padam and the cinematography was awesome. I'll check it out just for the latter!

I don't understand why KB hasn't got a lead role yet. Well, maybe his next drama, he will.

There aren't many parts written for actors his age period in dramas. Actors usually have to wait much longer than actresses for leading roles.

February 2013?,
well, good news is that my tear ducts might have built back up the supply of tears and my heart might have recuperated after watching back to back to back Gaksital - NiceGuy - I Miss You.
but, bad news is the painful scars from these dramas might instead also give me blindness and I'm not sure my heart won't be totally crushed to a million pieces untill it flatline.

in all seriousness, I have confident in the casting and the production team, these people have the experiences in the melo genre. Also since the writing is derived from an existing movie, a large synopsis and it's plot trajectory is already there for the writers to work with.

well, here's hoping I'll still be alive in February 2013.

My feeling towards this drama:

Noh Hee Kyung + Kim Kyu Tae + Jo In Sung --> CAN'T WAIT!!

BUT

Makjang, Too Melodramatic Plot --> Oh noes! Hate! Hate! Hate!

Will check the first episode definitely.

Sorry for the thread hijack, but I just heard that Jeon Do Yeon and Jung Il Woo were cast for the new Tokyo Tower remake this spring. I was over the moon that JDY would be returning to dramas but I was hoping a better actor than JIW would be cast as the main lead. I'm not sure how this pair will work out - I think JDY will eat JIW alive. Thoughts?

that's good news...I think this will just be like kim sun ah and lee jang woo pairing...he somehow worked his way to match her...and I think JIL even has better experience in lead roles than LJW, so he won't drown. he might in fact shine in this role...just my two cents^^

I didn't watch I Do, I Do but Kim Sun Ah hasn't exactly been doing the most taxing fare lately. Tokyo Tower is pretty hardcore stuff and not comparable to a throwaway rom-com imho.

nahhhh!! JIW is loads better than LJW. I stopped watching IDID just because of him.

Nooooo way!? Jeon Do Yeon is awesome, but I think jung Il-woo has also proven his acting ability over the years. Will they star as a couple? I am not familiar with the original drama. I think they'll be great together, but I also foresee criticism for the age difference...

The age difference is built into the plot. It's the love story of a woman in her 40s with a man in his 20s. Maybe it's just me, but I don't think Jung Il Woo is a very good actor at all. I was hoping for someone like Song Joong Ki or Jo In Sung but both of them are clearly impossible.

Well that's some great plot. I can just picture JDY in it. I agree with you about Song Joong-ki, but looking at the age Jung Il Woo would be a better fit than JIS. I really like JIW and I think he's got more on his sleeve than great comedic timing. Those eyes are so expressive...

Looking up the movie, I came across an item on Dramabeans about a korean drama remake of the movie with Kim Ji-So, but I can't find it anywhere.

With JIS, he's got a tremendous case of babyface so I thought he could still pull it off. Who knows, maybe Jung Il Woo will surprise me!

I am so excited for That Winter! JIS, SHK!!! is enough to make me squeal! the oh so lonely heiress and playboy/con sounds like a promising (dreamy) pairing, makjang, tears and all.
Although I too, do feel Noh Hee Kyung forces her thoughts on viewers at times and is abit distant in her storytelling, but I'm still very excited just for this pairing of the leads!!! Can Feb 2013 arrive any faster please?!

Song joong ki mentions Jeon de yeon as his favourite actress. He is a better actor than JIW but I am a fan of JIW and I think he works hard to rise to the challenge. He does have range and is sooooo much better than lee jang woo.

i think that working with a good script with good direction and great actors, the actors work will be elevated too. so hopefully, if this rumour is true, jung il woo will do his best work yet!

Now ontopic.

I am soo looking forward to this drama! It seems that it's got it all to get me hooked: from the cast to the makjang. Let it be February already.

It was actually between KBS and SBS. I read in a korean article (translated of course) that it was still under negotiation between the two broadcasting networks. It could never be place in cable since it casts HUGE stars. Although Padam Padam have huge star casts as well, but I don't think they're at the same Hallyu level as Song Hye Kyo and Jo In Sung. I guess SBS got the deal since KBS has IRIS 2, most probably if That Winter will be broadcasted in KBS, it might be a Mon-Tues drama because IRIS 2 will definitely take the Wed-Thurs slot. Excited for this drama.

And I just hope that Jo won't fall into Song's trap like a moth to a flam. Song has a knack for seducing her opposite roles. Lee from All in, Hyun from The world they live within, and Rain from Full house.. She better leave Jo alone. He's on my list!

But then again I guess it's not her fault she was born with a beauty that blinds man's eyes and hearts.

They were cracking jokes about fauxest on Gag Concert several times in the last few weeks. Who exactly in the Korean media establishment thinks incest is such a magnificent drama plot element? I know I'm unusual in this forum, but I wandered over to Kdrama after getting tired of being unable to explain to friends why I was watching Japanese anime and movies that appeared to be written mostly for sadists and perverts.

I don't know how this could miss.
I imagine Song Hye-gyo can do fauxcest like nobody's business at this point. :D
JIS will be easier for me to warm up to than SSH in AimH.
He seethes with sexy.

I did NOT like Song Hye-gyo in WW, though. Like you said, too cold, even though she got to kiss on Binnie a LOT.
