Hello everyone :) I've been a fan and a follower of this website for two years now but I have few things I would like to share with you since everyone here appears so knowledgable about korean culture and drama.
naturally I have a love for all foreign things including KDrama & because I was raised watching Telenovelas I learned to unplug my brain whenever I watch latin or korean drama. but I had instances where I couldn't finish a drama because of a plot device. for example, I couldn't get passed the 4th episode of You're Beautiful because there's no way in hell that I could accept the fact that no one noticed that PSH is a girl or when that doctor in 49 days started explaining SLK visions as reminiscent of past lives. yet the usage of all of these in a plot can be explained regardless of how rational or irrational they may seem
the only thing that I CANNOT get over is the "study-abroad" plot device! can't you just live abroad? can someone explain this to me?! is it a cultural thing? I know this might sound stupid to some but I personally cannot get passed it; I tried, and I failed.
Welcome! I thought by episode 4 of You're Beautiful a few did realize she was a girl (in one of the most hilarious scenes ever!) If you read my comment a few up, you'll see I watch with the park your brain at the door attitude. It helps!
Also, I do think that studying abroad is very desirable for South Koreans, so maybe that is why they use it so much.
