7 new character posters for IRIS 2

New character posters are out for the main cast of IRIS 2!… and they look just like the main poster released a few weeks ago. Which happen to look just like the Athena and IRIS 1 posters that came before it.

The character posters, starting with the top row, feature our heroes and heroines of the spy world: Jang Hyuk is a team leader with the NSS , having been recruited with the agency in his younger days. Lee Da-hae plays an Olympic gold medalist shooter turned spy sniper, which I guess shouldn’t be funny but makes me snerk. Let me guess — she’s a genius shooter, right? And Lee Beom-soo is formerly a spy for North Korea, which means he’s this drama’s Kim Min-jong. I hope just as funny.

In the second row, we have Oh Yeon-soo playing the newly appointed deputy director of the NSS. She’s always hard as nails and cold as ice, so this role should suit her to a tee. Yoon Doo-joon plays what sounds like the perfect agent — heck, the perfect guy, all capable and smart and warm-hearted to boot. This drama’s just full of superlatives, isn’t it?

Then there’s Im Soo-hyang, who I really wouldn’t have expected to come out of this drama as the most interesting character but is sounding intriguing, at least so far. She’s got a great backstory as the younger sister to Sun-hwa, IRIS 1′s North Korean spy played awesomely by Kim So-yeon. Since Kim was one of the best things about both that show and Athena, here’s to hoping some of that awesomeness spills over to Little Sis. (Also: cameo, please?) And rounding out the group is our requisite idol, Lee Joon.

IRIS 2 will follow Jeon Woo-chi on Wednesdays and Thursdays, premiering February 13.

Question. Do I need to watch Iris 1 to understand Iris 2? Or will it be a completely different storyline?

same question from me.....

I suspect no.

I can't say for sure till I've seen what IRIS 2's story actually is, but there's no way this franchise is going to alienate anybody - they're going to want to hook all viewers, new and old. I'd bet money that it'll do a short recap of Season 1 and then just start a whole new story.

Season 2 will be set 3 years after Season 1 and a few characters are going to be coming back or referenced, but those aren't the main characters. The primary plotline will likely be totally accessible to newcomers.

They will do more than enough flashbacks to fill you in I am sure, there are so few holdovers from Iris 2 i am not even considering this a sequel anymore than Full House 2 was a sequel to Full House 1

OHHH wait, you could watch the iris move it's 2hours and is literally a recap of anything relevant from iris 1 it irked me i watched it since i had watch the whole drama. pretty pointless imo.

The movie changes a few things though, the ending being one, so she'll have to keep that in mind. I think they are "cancelling" the film for the plot in this. Either that, or Kim Seung Woo's character is a zombie. :P

This is K-Drama though so he has to be a genius zombie.

I think you could just read up about it. I do feel you should, as you might miss some things, depending on how much of Season 1 will seep into this. We'll at least learn the circumstances around a certain death which had netizens ripping their hair out. We'll also be catching at least a glimpse of Kim Seung Woo's character from Season 1 as well as Jeong Joon Ho's.

'IRIS' left a lot of things unexplained and unexplored so I don't think you need to see it all. Just find a good summary of the important parts, because this is basically continuing the fight between NSS and IRIS, but with a different team. So at least key points of that "battle" will be good to know.

I love spy drama/movie etc but I couldn't finish watching IRIS and lets not get started with Athena. Epic fail of the decade.

Probably because she will be another weak little weeping flower suffering from her romance, like Kim Tae Hee's character was. I really disliked that about 'IRIS'. I was hoping we could avoid the melo and sexism here. Let's wait and see.

His character didn't come with a description in the articles. Find one and I'll translate.

"Yoon Si-hyuk : Lee Joon

A hothead and straightforward, but do not hold grudges NSS personnel escort team. A member of the national security services (NSS). Joins the team of 6 people by the request of the deputy director of NSS, Choi Min (actress Oh Yoon - Soo) to track the assassins."

From a Facebook fanpage. There were some on the Soompi thread too, but I have no idea how official all those are and the translations aren't exactly top notch, as you see above.

Javabeans can't add information she doesn't have. Non-official places can only get as much information as the production officially releases, unless we are talking about forums and fans, like in the Soompi thread. And while fans do have all the time in the world to get the latest info and stalk the internet in English and Korean all day long, a busy blog and its members can't possibly spend so much time and energy for every single show. ;)

When something is more official and more concrete, I'm sure we'll get more posts. ^_^

They may be waiting to flesh out his character based on his performance and netizen reaction, too. If he does well his part could expand. If he doesn't, well, he'll fulfill the OMG so freaking pretty quotient and not hurt things any more than he has to.

I for one am hoping he does well. What little I know of him from interviews and shows and such - crafted as it may be - seems like an earnest guy who works very hard and really wants to act. Plus, you know, I'm shallow as the next girl. That pretty face plus built like a greek god.

I would judge his acting, not his persona. No matter how nice a guy seems or how pretty they are, if he can't act, I don't want to see him. He is paid to do this and he has another job too.

I won't celebrate over a decent actor with acting as his only means of earning a living losing a role to someone who can't act, just because that someone is nice. ;)

If he can act and he does well, I'll be glad he got the part and praise him for it, even if others could do as well or better. If it's bellow proper acting standard, I'll be sure to say my piece about that as well.

I doubt Lee Beom Soo's character will be in any way comedic and I'm frankly good with that. 'History of the Salaryman' was hilarious and so was 'Dr. Jin', albeit for all the wrong reasons. His 'Over My Dead Body' film was a comedy too, so I'm all up for a more serious role. He's damn good with those too. Joong Won is the villain and he'll be the "cold and deadly" type, if descriptions so far can be believed.

Yeon Hwa (Im Soo Hyang) is the one who digs up Joong Won and wants him to have a "collaboration" with IRIS. So I guess she's a femme fatale and he's... kitty-whipped.

IRIS and the big baddie known as Mr. Black will be the focus this time around. Frankly, the organization of IRIS was the most intriguing thing in Season 1 (definitely not the silly romance and melo), so having this whole NSS Vs. IRIS battle escalate is a-ok with me.

I think there was mention of Seon Hwa gone missing, which might mean that Yeon Hwa will be doing IRIS dirty work while looking for her. For me, she's the most interesting character so far, along with Joong Won. Mainly because there is no mention of what he wants and why. All we know if that he has 'exploding disarming charisma'. Lol. I was having fun with Google Translate.

Before I read the blurb for Im Soo hyang, the first person I thought of was Sun Hwa. I'm actually really interested in this character even though I don't really care for IRIS 2. I wish IRIS 2 would have been centered around Sun Hwa :/

Maybe they are just not main enough characters to have them in the promotional material. By the looks of the teaser, Kim Seung Woo's character might be getting killed very early. I am not sure, but the way they showed it felt like it.

We'll get more casting news as the days go by, but it looks like this is our main cast, so anyone else we see from Season 1 will be appreciated, but likely not get much screen time.

Yoon Joo Sang was at the script reading though, so maybe we'll get some of the old NSS personnel there.

It's Jang Huyk!!!!!!!!!!!! The peak of his career in drama land has been Chuno. Somehow I don't think this role will top that, but it will definitely be a success. I predict ratings around 15-20%.

I wanted to watch this because I really like Oh Yeon Soo, but I think I might just skip it o.O Still unable to understand why I've seen her in three dramas and she is always the wife the husband doesn't love/cheats on. LOOK AT HER! And look at you! And then look at your choices and how bad they are!

Lee Da-hae did too much cosmetic surgeries to her face. She now looks like Kim Nam-joo, I wonder what will be happening when she hits 40s?

She looks the best in My Girl!! Please, no more facial enhancement, very soon, after IRIS II, I guess, she can progress to take over the role of Yoda in Star Wars. ^^

***Lee Da-hae plays an Olympic gold medalist shooter turned spy sniper, which I guess shouldn’t be funny but makes me snerk. Let me guess — she’s a genius shooter, right?***

I don't know about genius, but it turns out that she had the best shooting-range scores out of anyone else on the cast. Including the guys. Which is pretty impressive. Not that I'm into guns.

It is just promotional tactics of the drama. Just once that she beats others, and the production company used the score as a gimmicks to exaggerate her shooting ability.
